I can smell the lilacs from the backyard wafting in the open windows. Which means it is finally lilac lemonade season. Just stuffed some mason jars with lilacs I cut and filled them up with lemonade. In just a few days I’ll have the beverage that always lets me know summer is finally here.

Elyse Hargreeves + the funeral scene?

took me a few days, but finally getting around to answering this lmao. anyway, inspired me to finally write (some of) the scene!

Kienna lurches back as Diego lunges at Luther, gasping loudly at the sudden escalation. Elyse sighs, rolling her eyes and wrapping an arm around her wife. “Don’t worry, you get used to it.”

“Suddenly I’m glad I’m an only child.” Luther takes a hard punch and Kienna reacts more than Luther, flinching at the impact. “You’d think they could hold it together for a funeral.”

Elyse snorts, squeezing Kienna lightly. “I obviously haven’t portrayed my brothers well enough.”

“Hit him! Hit him!” Klaus cheers around his cigarette, looking more alive than she’s seen him all day. 

Elyse rolls her eyes, opens her mouth to offer a bet - and then Luther winds up a punch just as Diego throws himself out of the way, Luther’s fist colliding with Ben’s statue. She stumbles back as the statue comes tumbling down, Statue Ben’s head breaking off and tumbling away. She stares at him, headless, and for a moment she sees him as he was that night, crumpled on the ground, blood painting the ground and her chest squeezes. She blinks and he’s gone, just a headless statue again.

“Elyse? You okay, sweetheart?” Kienna steps in front of her gaze, grabbing her hands and squeezing them tightly. “You okay?”

“Diego, no!” Elyse blinks, shaking her head, looking past Kienna as Diego throws a knife. Luther hisses, grabbing his arm and gasping, standing them for a moment before bounding past them and into the house.

Elyse closes her eyes, sighing lowly as Allison says, “You can never help yourself, can you?”, shooting him a disgusted look before following Luther.

“Lyse, you good?” Kienna repeats, eyes searching her face as if looking for the signs of a breakdown.

Elyse sets her jaw, smiling stiffly. “Fine. I’m fine. My siblings are idiots, but I’m fine.”

Kienna frowns, glaring at the door Diego disappeared through before smiling softly at her. “Come on, let’s go in and raid the kitchen. Chill out for a bit. Stress certainly can’t be good for Peanut.”

The corner of her lips twitch up in a real smile. “Sounds good. He’s craving something sweet.”
