i only follow the nba but there def is a different vibe if you've been a fan of a team for a long time bc it's so easy to become jaded. if your team is good but never wins it all then it becomes hard to believe in them year after year. even if logically that makes no sense because often there are huge changes on rosters lol. and you might think 'if this is upsetting why still watch/call yourself a fan' and you'd be right but with sports once you're in, you're in for life lol

idk, i feel like watching sports or investing your time in them is still something you're CHOOSING to do, esp when it becomes a longtime thing and loses it's shiny new obsessive appeal, so it feels like some ppl are choosing to be miserable sometimes, lol. like you don't have to keep watching or call yourself a fan if it's not bringing you joy just bc it's become a habit, and while i do understand why some people become jaded... i just know there are others who have been around for a long time and manage to not become that way necessarily and those are the people i'd rather listen to or be around or have centered in the media. i'm not trying to preemptively become cynical about a thing that brings me lots of serotonin just bc a segment of the fanbase has experienced disappointment too much 😭😭 like... i guess i havent gone through the gutwrenching nature of things over n over again but when it gets too much for me or makes me feel uber negative all the time, you better believe i will be moving on.

anon I need you to know how long I've been thinking about the critter idea. finally got it done and it was so much fun to write. below the cut

Hank doesn't like Deimos, plain and simple. The kid is loud, annoying, and unruly, and Hank doesn't know how he manages to keep getting roped into babysitting. He glances up from the deconstructed rifle on the ground before him and watches off in the distance as Deimos stalks towards a flock of birds, crouched down low and moving with the slow precision of an apex predator.

It's laughable, the idea that Deimos could be anything but his nature. Doc insists that he'll grow out of it, that he'll learn some impulse control eventually and be able to integrate with the rest of humanity.

Deimos lunges forward. Hank can't see through the dust that kicks up but he knows the kid got one. He always does. Hank focuses back on his gun, scraping weeks' worth of carbon buildup off the bolt carrier with a metal pick.

Doc is out of his mind. He thinks he can take on the Agency while raising a 10-year-old that runs around killing small animals for sport at every opportunity. And Maker forbid Hank suggests he get his priorities straight. The Agency should come first. Nevada should come first. His little bastard clone should be an afterthought in the grand scheme of things, but Doc won't hear it.

Footsteps approach rapidly, Hank mentally bracing himself for what would be the fifth idiotic conversation of the morning.

"Hey! Hey, Hank!" Deimos calls, skidding to a halt a few feet away. His hands and chin are covered in blood, staining the collar of his t-shirt. "You got a sec?"

Hank stares at him for a moment, unmoving. "No," he deadpans, setting the bolt carrier down anyway.

"Aw c'mon! I just need like, 2 minutes and that's it, I promise!" Deimos whines, rocking on his heels, practically buzzing with energy. "It's- I got something cool to show you but you gotta get up."

He's not getting out of this without a long argument that'll last longer than just humoring him. Hank sighs, shoulders sagging as he stares at the porch roof above him, counting down from 10. Annoying. "Make it quick," he says as he stands, letting Deimos grab his wrist with his bloody little hand and drag him out into the hot desert sun.

"D'you know what all these are from?" Deimos asks as he leads Hank to the pileup of old cars outside their makeshift base.

"Doc trying to park, probably," Hank replies, getting a laugh out of Deimos.

"You're funny. Okay, you gotta stand riiiiiight here!" Deimos pushes Hank in front of the broken rear window of one of the cars.

He peers inside, seeing nothing of interest. "Why are we doing this?"

"Ssshshshsshhush, it's a surprise!" Deimos says with a grin, looking far too pleased with himself.

"Deimos."

"You'll see, just... wait here. This'll only take me a sec." Deimos scampers off behind the scrap pile before Hank can argue further.

This is bullshit. He's Hank J. Fucking Wimbleton. He should be out decimating his enemies, not playing ass-backwards hide-and-seek with Doc's brat.

He could drive Deimos out to the middle of nowhere and leave him there. He'd probably like it. No loud noises, plenty of wildlife to terrorize, and more importantly he'd be far, far away from Hank.

Doc would kill him.

The silence is broken by the sound of claws scraping against metal somewhere within the pile.

If Deimos hands him a dead rat again, he'll kill him and then himself.

The sound gets louder, closer, the struggle within causing the scrap pile to rock just a bit. He hears Deimos snarl, followed by an angry shriek that couldn't possibly have come from the kid.

For fuck's sake. Hank leans down and looks into the car, unable to make out anything amongst the dark shadows inside. He startles when something hits the other end of the car with a loud bang and movement just barely catches his eye before something small, black, and hairy collides with his chest. He holds onto the... whatever it is, and not two seconds later Deimos springs from the vehicle and nearly knocks Hank over.

Deimos snaps his teeth at the furry bundle in Hank's arms, that wild look in his eyes that simply isn't compatible with society. Hank holds him back by the collar of his shirt, keeping the kid at arm's-length so he can inspect the creature he's holding.

It's such a tiny thing, big green eyes housing pupils that are narrowed into slits as it hisses at Deimos. She's filthy too, Hank unsure if her fur is actually black or if she just has that much dirt caked onto her body.

Deimos attempts to surge forward and Hank allows the cat to climb up onto his shoulder for safety, and then he shoves the boy down without warning. Deimos lands on his ass with a grunt, the impact seemingly enough to snap him out of his frenzy.

"Hey, that was mine!" Deimos complains as he stands, already reaching upward but Hank shoves him right back down.

"No," is all he says before turning and making his way back to the porch, leaving Deimos by the scrap heap. She bats her paws at the lapel of his jacket, and now that he can get a better look at her he's fairly sure she's white underneath all the grime. She'll need a bath later. In Doc's bathroom. Because it's Doc's fault he's out here in the first place.

Hank hears the crunch of gravel underfoot as Deimos approaches, shooting him a glare that has him stopping several feet back. Killing birds and rodents is one thing, cats deserve better. Certain that Deimos isn't going to bug his new friend again, Hank sits down and picks right back up where he'd left off.

Bug. That might work as a name.

He gets back to scraping at his bolt carrier, the cat pawing at the black flecks that come off and attempting to grab the carrier out of his hands. It would be annoying if she wasn't purring so loudly, so instead of pushing her away Hank simply scratches the top of her dirty head.

The sound of Deimos sitting in the gravel gets both their attentions, Hank's heading snapping to watch him but Deimos has kept his distance, observing with quiet curiosity.

Her eyes remind Hank of little green beetles that he's seen during stops out in the middle of the desert, bright and shiny and so colorful.

Gravel again. Deimos has moved closer, sitting at the edge of the porch step and staring at Beetle. Yeah, Beetle is good. The curiosity on his face looks odd, Hank thinks, so used to seeing bloodlust and manic focus. His eyes meet Hank's for a long moment, something unspoken passing between them before the kid stretches forward and prods his little finger at Beetle's paw.

She grabs at his hand playfully with her paws, getting a laugh out of him as her tail thrashes.

"Think Doc'll let you keep her inside?" Deimos asks as he scratches under her chin, not minding one bit when she bites his wrist.

"Maybe," Hank replies, which by now they both know means 'absolutely not but we're not gonna tell him.' Which is bullshit. There's no way a cat could cause even half the problems Deimos does.

"Sweet," Deimos says before flapping in the distance yanks his attention away, the birds having returned to feast on their fallen brother's corpse. "Finally!" he cheers quietly before predictably hurrying off to go harass them.

What are they gonna do with him?

New interview by hunskate with our beloved Ivett, in where she talks about her new training enviroment, new programs and other personal stuff. Translation by @fanpower98​, please don’t repost!

Ivett Tóth successfully passed her final exams so now she can concentrate on training with full power. Our olympic figure skater can start the new season with a new SEAT and supported by MOL*, after two weeks resting she started training again. We looked back to last season with her and we talked about her new programs, plans and goals.

Congratulations on your graduation! There was a fully scheduled year behind you. How did you get by?

Thank you, I’m happy I could finally check this off. In the olympic season, when I trained in Switzerland, the school took a backseat, I couldn’t travel back home for the exams so I had to do grade 12 again. It was hard but it affected me on a positive way, where something also got my attention beside skating and didn’t overthink while training. In the last weeks I spent less time on the ice because of the exams, I usually had one practise a day. I could get to work again after the written [exams] then Vasas had an outage where, without ice, meant us a two weeks break. In the meantime I got beyond the oral [exams] so now the intensive preparation can start.

You started the last season with the Italian and the Finnish challengers. How did you evaluate your performance there?

I’m happy I started the season earlier like in the previous seasons because it made me feel calmer, I didn’t had to rush or act in haste to go through the road I planned. Thanks to a good short program, I could do my free in the best group at Lombardia Trophy and I got 7th place overall, so I got ranking points with that. At Finlandia Trophy I did a lot of stupid mistakes so I slipped really down, in the end I didn’t need that much to reach the settled goal. I learned from both competitions.

Then you had two competitions at home: you had the lead at the Halloween Cup after the short program, but you got bronze at the end, at Christmas Cup you were able to keep the first place and you won with high scores. Is the pressure bigger if you have to compete at home?

I always have some nervousness in me but it rather gives me safety when I can compete at home. Moreover they organized the Halloween Cup in Vasas where I practice day by day and since I live close to the rink I just walked to the competition. This is why it was special to me, because it was the first time I competed there. However I already got a lot of experience in the Gyakorló Jégcsarnok (Practice Rink), Christmas Cup went better because it was more than one month later and I could get in shape until then. Actually we should keep out where we compete but of course we know that at home there are more familiar faces, there are more hungarian fans in the spectators’ area which affects me in a positive way on stressful situations.

Yet before Christmas Cup you could be glad for a foreign win: you got a gold medal in November in Riga at Volvo Open Cup. How do you recall that competition?

I did my short program for the first time in the season where, when I got off the ice, I was satisfied with my performance. The free wasn’t perfect, though. But I accomplished it better than in the previous competitions. There was this feeling where for the first time I felt I was able to show for what we worked so hard that I started to find myself. It was a little milestone for me from which we could build.

However at Four National Competitions, which is also the Nationals, you didn’t do well. How did you prepare after that to the European Championships?

I’m a very nervous type of person, I have to consciously pay attention to relax even if the training went very well. Although the competition was here in [Buda]Pest and I felt the fans’ support, I couldn’t relax for some reason. I didn’t perform well but at least my performance was enough to not to have to participate in another sorting competition so I could concentrate on the training with my nerves. I knew if I keep calm and only follow my coaches advices, we can reach our goal.

This goal was to be in the top ten but at the end you managed to get the 13th place from last year. You had some trouble with the double Axel in both programs but you got an ISU season’s personal best for the free skate. You could perform before a big crowd, how did you live it through?

I was very surprised that so much people came, I didn’t think figure skating or any other ice sport is that famous in Belarus. The audience encouraged all competitors, clapped through the programs, it had the feeling like the stands were full with asian fans. I still haven’t found whys for that two double Axels, maybe some short circuit [I can’t remember the word we use in english fs fandom]. True, I haven’t got into the top ten but I feel like I managed to get better at both programs compared to last year and I think back with with good feelings to Minsk EC. Particularly to the free, I slapped into the air at the end, I felt like I did my best this time. When I looked into my coaches’ eyes, that said everything, I knew they are proud of me. Through that one year together Zsófi and Zoli [Zsófia Tokaji-Kulcsár, Zoltán Tóth] became extremely important persons in my life, there isn’t bigger pleasure than the fact I could bring them joy. These are the unforgettable memories what drives us forward in gray weekdays and in trainings and I hope we can live through more moments like this together.

After your fifth European Championships came your fifth World Championship where unfortunately you couldn’t perform your free skate. What was in you when you got off the ice and got your scores?

Between EC and Worlds I would’ve had an another competition but I got sick and I rested so much that my muscles got down so I had to concentrate on getting back to my condition instead of competing. I did succeed on it quite well but I felt the lack of the competitions’ atmosphere at Worlds. I would have liked to finish the season with a good performance but the missed jump and the stumble on the step sequence cost a lot. That hurt more that getting in the free depended on these .3 tenths but you also have to know how to handle this. With a harder heart we tried to take the opportunity that we were in Japan: we went to sightseeing in Tokyo, watched almost all the competitions and I could learn a lot from the others’ performances. We enjoyed the banquet very much and then when we came home I had to start to prepare to my final exams so I couldn’t stay dwelling on for long what happened there.

If you had to describe your season with some words, what would you say?

Maybe that that I did everything full of love and now somehow every training and every competition went easier than last year. Because I started to work with new coaches it was also a very good experience. A lot of times I couldn’t bring it out of myself during competitions what I did at practices but they always stood by me and helped me.

In May the selected ones could work with Alexandr Abt, who you could met at the competition in Riga. What gave you these four days?

He had great results as a figure skater and I already knew him by sight because I have competed many times with one of his Swiss student. Although it’s not possible to do miracles in four days he did a very good job with us, we learned a lot from him and we could get to know a fantastic person by him. We paid attention to steps, spins and also jumps, we mostly did exercises to move us out from the comfort zone and try other steps into the elements. We benefit from this a lot at practices and it’s sure I’ll build some little things into my programs from those what he showed us.

Since you already mentioned your programs: would you reveal what music did you chose for next season, what style will you come out with [this time]?

It’s important to me to stay interesting so I’m showing a new side of me again in my short program: I’ll skate to swing. It has a plenty of challenges in it but I enjoy it very much. It’s choreographed by Nóra Hoffmann and my coaches, in regards of the costume and make up still no decisions were made [T/N: the interview was in July so it’s probably done by now]. Because we performed the short many times I definitely wanted to change it so neither the judges and neither the fans would get bored. However I kept the free because I loved it and I feel I can make a lot more out of it. I haven’t had the opportunity to work with Benoit this time but we are in contact and I hope next year we can continue our work together.

What are your main goals for next season? In what would you want to evolve the most?

My main goal is to have a more balanced season, to get in shape earlier and to increase the number of my triple jumps. In the short program I would like to make my triple-triple more difficult, we will see which one is the best during practices. To the free I would like to put back the Flip, what was in it at some competitions in autumn but then we took it out. Besides this we are also working on them [the programs] performance-wise a lot and since my short was choreographed here at home and I have performed the free for a year I can practice them better.

Although you got two weeks resting, for you half of it was about studying. Do you still have the opportunity to go on a holiday to really get relaxed?

We always go somewhere with family but it won’t come together this year. I’ll have some free weekends but frankly, now I don’t feel like I need some rest. I couldn’t do intense training because of exams and I really missed the [physical] stress, I couldn’t wait to continue the practices. I really enjoy the work, I can absolutely give myself to the music we’ve found for the short and I also want to level up my free program. Based on all of what we went through last season with my coaches, I dare to say that there is “kraft”* in our collaboration and we still can show a lot of things to the audience.

I feel that I found my place.

history

roxanne voice: i was born in an iconic family because it was my destiny to be iconic! but --- in all honesty --- she is right. roxanne is born to george & angelina one hot summer morning, waking up the whole damn hospital with her crying and huge lungs. she has a brother --- fred, who’s officially her half brother, but that’s not something that makes him anything less than her brother. and then there’s heaps of cousins, almost too many of them, and uncles and aunts and other people to call family, and from day one, it’s all good.

roxanne was a chaotic kid, growing up. a cheerful and energetic and exciting one, but a chaotic one. dirty walls and destruction followed her wherever she went. a bit of a hurricane of a girl, even then. roxanne discovered her love for quidditch at a young age, too, and how couldn’t she? it was in her blood and all around her and there was something bloody magical about flying.

a love for people and laughter and loving people was also discovered. roxanne grew up in a warm environment and had plenty of reasons to love the people she loved, even if she needed none. there was, of course, tragedy in her blood too, an awareness that there’s horrible things in this world --- an awareness that she buried as soon as she was able to.

upon arrival at hogwarts, the hat took a while to decide between gryffindor and ravenclaw but went with the latter, in the end. was roxanne disappointed? a bit, maybe. she would have liked to be sorted into the same house as her parents and brother and a lot of her family but the hat had made some solid points and heck, she wouldnt be roxanne if she looked at ravenclaw as a challenge.

was eventually sorted in ravenclaw because her mind, in the end, is her motivator. she might be a very physically active and present person, but she thinks. a lot. about everything. ( with an exception for moments where she acts on impulse. ) roxanne is a very bright individual, to be honest --- she’s able to be booksmart and she likes learning. she likes challenging herself. above all, she just has a Very open mind and is always looking to broaden it.

is a whirlwind. roxanne joined and dropped clubs like no other, switched favourite subject every month, delved into odd sections of the library to become an expert on rare subjects ... it was a lot. her grades suffered under it, too --- roxanne might be a loyal person, but she’s damn flighty. there were, of course, passions that she stuck with. quidditch, of course, but also justice. roxanne, as a queer woman of colour, has always felt very passionately for human rights issues and knows shit about it too. always down for a debate over lunch. getting on the quidditch team was one of the best days of her damn life. getting the quidditch badge later on was an even better day. roxanne loves the sport so much, wants to go pro once she’s graduated, is crazy competitive. she’s a gay jock. another cliché character by mar learned eventually how to focus and keep her grades up, but she does have trouble motivating herself for things that dont interest her. she’s just not an academic. she likes learning, loves it actually --- but hates the way she has to do it at school. hates it. she’s still working hard to get good grades, of course, because she gets that that’s part of life but she just really... wishes it wasnt. [ death, murder tw  so life was going pretty good and then her uncle was murdered and everything went to shit like that. and--- here’s roxanne’s question: how in the living hell do you deal with that? she doesn’t know, that’s for sure. she knows that she’s angry. that she’s absolutely livid and not sure what to do with the grief in her chest because damn it, that’s not her thing, not at all. she’s sickened with worry. she mostly is enraged at the world and that this is happening and that people can be like this. end of tw ]

so joining the DA was something roxanne didn’t even think about. she just did it. her studies, once again, have taken a backseat while she pushes all her energy into the DA and the team, as that functions as something ... as close as therapeutic as she can get, i suppose. leading her team, searching that snitch, hoping to win, win, win --- all things that in the grand scheme of things dont matter but do make it easier to deal.

roxanne ... she’s a lot. she’s a fucking lot. she’s a mess. 

personality & rambling

roxanne does NOTHING half heartedly; she either commits fully or doesn’t do something at all. she doesn’t do half-assing, doesn’t believe in it — this got her in a fair amount of trouble at hogwarts (handing in 10/10 homework or ,,, not doing it or barely doing it) and she knows it’s a bad attitude to have, deep down. not that she’s admitted that to herself yet, though. things have been put in perspective now, though. it’s clear that there’s no room for just doing what she wants to do and what she feels like, so she’s ... improving ( and yet completely abandoning her studies lmao )

when roxanne is passionate about something, she goes on about it for a long time. loves ranting about topics that drive her, is very vocal of her views and thoughts and hardly shuts up about it. can be condescending, at times; roxanne believes she’s always right, has little humility to her — she often doesn’t try to put herself in other people’s shoes, thinks that anyone who disagrees is simply wrong. it’s a thinking pattern she’s trying to shake, but alas; it’s easier said than done.

this is also a way for her to cope with her insecurities, tbh; she puts others down in her head so she can lift herself up. unhealthy!!! yikes! it’s something she’s pretty unaware of.

i mean, roxanne is, deep down, very fucking insecure. she has this surname that’s got a bit of fame to it and she has such high ideals for everyone around her including herself. especially for herself. her confidence is not completely feigned, i think part of it is definitely real, but part of it is definitely a mask

5 Interesting Things We Learned About Formula E

With the third season of Formula E now in the rear-view mirror, there’s plenty to talk about in regards to this young motorsport series. We attended the final two races in Montreal and witnessed a surprising amount of engagement from the crowd while learning a lot about this new type of racing. But first, let’s get up to speed: Formula E is an all-electric open-wheel racing series with 10 teams of two drivers vying for the championship. As of season three, each car packs a 28-kWh battery and each driver has a pair of cars, switching into a fully charged one midway through the race. Future seasons will see this element change and cars are expected to get bigger batteries that can last the whole race. Here are a few other interesting things we learned while attending the races in Montreal. Cooling Batteries is Really Important A quick stroll through the pits where teams and mechanics work on the race cars exposed an interesting part of EV racing. While there are fewer oily bits and moving parts to worry about on a Formula E vehicle, one thing that is a constant concern is battery temperature. As a result, you’ll witness technicians shoveling ice into one of the pods on the side of the car, desperately trying to keep the battery cool. Some teams utilize very sci-fi looking liquid nitrogen to do the trick. A representative from the Jaguar Panasonic Racing team explained that the cars will shut down if the temperatures rise above 60 degrees Celsius. Batteries get very warm very quickly when they’re being recharged — imagine how your phone feels hot after being charged — and that’s pretty much what happens when the regenerative brakes are used to recharge the battery. As a result, the team has to decide when to use the regenerative brakes or conventional brakes so they don’t overheat the battery. FanBoost is Fun! When the racers qualify, there’s no emphasis on battery conservation. As a result, the racecars use a tune where their electric motors have an output of 200 kW or roughly 270 horsepower. However, in the race, the cars are tuned down to about 170 kW or 230 ponies. Where did that extra power go? It’s unlocked by the fans via a voting process called FanBoost. Three drivers are given the opportunity to boost their cars output a few minutes into the race, and will be allowed to utilize that extra power in their second car, during a particular period of the race. It may sound gimmicky to give drivers an extra advantage, but it’s an interesting way to involve fans in this new racing series. It’s just enough power to initiate a pass or bring a racer closer to their competitors, but it isn’t an overwhelming boost that makes for a easy-breezy pass. Teams Need a Battery Swap Strategy As mentioned before, racers have to swap into another car halfway through the race, but there’s no defined time that they have to make that maneuver. The one rule is that the car change has to take at least 47 seconds. Sometimes racers will choose to pit during a yellow flag so that they won’t lose position, while others try to stretch their battery for a few laps more while others are swapping. The regenerative brakes on demand also seem to help stretch the life of the battery as well. Many Different Configurations Exist An interesting aspect of Formula E is that the rules have changed a few times over the past few seasons. This is an attempt by the series to advance EV technologies and bring new tech to the forefront of the industry. In season one, almost everything was locked down. The cars all used a single electric motor that was mounted longitudinally, and a five speed gearbox. There were also specific manufacturers making the components, like McLaren with the motor, Hewland with the gearbox, and Williams Advanced Engineering handling the traction battery. In season 2, the series opened up the development of the motor, gearbox, differential and casings. And finally, in the third season, things are tightened up a bit to stricter regulations, but still open to different designs and manufacturers. As a result, there are eight different powertrains in the series used among 10 teams. For example, the season three team champions, Renault e.Dams team, uses a transverse electric motor supplied by a company called Zytek. The racecar doesn’t even have a transmission, so the motor drives the differential directly via a reduction gear. The Techeetah racing team actually uses a customer supply of this setup. Season three drivers champion Lucas Digrassi, from the ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport team, uses a racecar that features a longitudinal engine setup and a three-speed gearbox. Another team, NextEV, utilizes two motors and no gears. Basically, there’s a lot of variation to the way the cars are designed and that helps to make the race more interesting. A Quiet Race Means a Fan-Friendly Race  There’s a lot of noise from motorsport fans about how Formula E cars don’t sound like racecars. That’s very true, as the quick vehicles sprint around with no backfiring, loud exhausts, or any noises that’s typically associated with racing. Instead, these cars sound like a sci-fi sound effect (think a door opening in Star Wars) stretched over the span of an hour. But as a result, that means the series can race in more fan friendly and convenient locations. The race can be held right in the heart of a city, so there’s no need for a long trip or camping plans just to catch competitive racing. It also means that it’s family friendly, too.
