Stressful Day Off- Graham Coxon x Reader
had major writers block while writing this 😭
lowercase intended
warnings: smut
summary: you’re at home trying to finish late work when your mind gets infested by your boyfriend. what will you do?
i sat at my desk, scribbling down on papers stacked on papers. i let out at huff of annoyance, irritation crossing and filling my entire brain. i just started this work and it was barely 10am, i wished i had this day off but if i didn’t get to this work then i’d be behind even more.
“y/n?” i hear my boyfriend’s morning voice call out.
“in here love!” i call back.
soon enough i hear the door creak open and eventually feel his hands massage my shoulders. my eyes flutter shut at the contact, a must need stress reliever.
“it’s barely 10, love. why are you working?” he asks.
“if i don’t then i’ll be way behind and i’ll have a breakdown, i’m pretty sure no one wants to see that.” i laugh, turning to look at him.
“want me to make you tea?”
“yes please.” i smile softly.
he releases his hands from my shoulders, giving me a kiss on top my head before leaving to the kitchen. i return back to my work, the thought of his hands occupying my mind causing me to mess up frequently. i’m even more stressed now that he’s intoxicated my mind. in the midst of my frantic working, he crept back in with two mugs of tea. him placing one on the desk caught my attention, making me look up at him.
“thank you gra.” i purse my lips for a kiss to which he gladly gives.
“love you.” i mumble on his lips.
“love you more.” he replies before pulling away.
he goes to sit on the sofa with his warm cup of tea and book in hand. just great, having him near me isn’t gonna help with my graham infested mind. i tried working but i kept thinking of him, my tea already gulped down within minutes. more and more minutes have passed before i eventually give up.
“damn it graham!” i slam my pencil onto the desk, causing him to harshly jump at my outburst.
“w-what?” his face looked terrified.
my angry features soften at the sight, guilt filling me instantly. i get up and make my way to him, the couch dipping as i sit next to him.
“sorry i scared you, my love. it’s just i-“ i sigh out in frustration.
he set his book down and grabbed onto my hands.
“what’s wrong, dear?”
“i want you badly.” i blurted out.
his face contorted into shock as a blush crept onto his face.
“you what?” he sounded dumbfounded.
“your hands…your presence…i need you badly.”
he opened his mouth to speak but was at a loss for words. he quickly moved to grab his tea and gulped it down, like he’s severely dehydrated. i watched as some tea dribbled down his chin and his neck. i impulsively went to lick it up, his movements coming to a halt. his hand went to my hair and grabbed onto it as i continued to lick and suck his tea drenched skin. i heard the mug clink as he set it down, making my body move to straddle him like it was conditioned to the sound. his hands flew to my hips and squeezed as i continued the abuse on his neck. i knew i was leaving hickies but i could care less, he could care less. he’s told me before how he loves when i mark him, showing every girl out there that i’m his and he’s mine. i mentally fight myself as i was torn between foreplay or just getting to the point. i made my mind up as soon as i heard him moan out once i found his sweet spot. my hands were quick to fumble with the hem of his sweater, eventually lifting it off him. i discarded it to wherever before finally kissing his sweet lips. i tasted the tea again, the savory taste making my tastebuds water. his hands shyly tug at my shirt, signaling me to take it off as well. i listen to his silent request and easily slide the shirt off my body, exposing my bare breasts. every time he sees my boobs, it’s like he undergoes a spell. and i mean every time. he dips his head down to press soft and gentle kisses, goosebumps spreading all over my body. i let him continue his affection for my chest as my hand struggles to slip down his sweats, palming his erection. he moaned against me, the vibrations tickling my skin. i stand up from him, a small whine of disappointment leaving his already plump lips. i watch his eyes watch me as i slowly and seductively slide off my shorts, no underwear present. his eyes widen at my choice, hunger and lust flooding his brown eyes. it was his turn to be needy since he grabbed me and sat me down again, instantly connecting our lips. we practically devoured one another, hands feeling every inch that we could. he sneakily took out his hard cock, pumping it a few times before slipping it inside me. i gasp out at the suddenness of being filled. no warning of any sort as he didn’t hesitate to thrust. his hands on my hips while his mouth was all over my neck and chest. moments where graham took control filled my stomach with major butterflies. i gripped the back of the couch causing my knuckles to turn white.
“fuck…graham…” i softly moan, the immense pleasure already being too much.
he was like an animal, a side i’ve never seen before but i liked it. i moved my hands to his shoulders, digging my fingernails into the soft skin. that seemed to fuel him even more, including my moans, since he picked up the pace. one hand left my hip and went to my face, forcing me to look at him, look at his now black eyes. they were so dark, i loved it. he connected our lips again, his hand flying to my boobs. he pinched and squeezed and did whatever he can to my boobs. his “dominant” side didn’t hide the fact that he still moaned and whined, whimpered and cried out as i squeeze him. i felt his hips stutter, breaking the rhythm that he’d created. he bit my bottom lip here and there, hand squeezing my probably bruised hips.
“i’m close, baby…” i finally hear him say.
i was waiting for those words, now saying the same to him. after confirming i’m near too, he went faster and harder. the lewd sound of skin slapping filled this quiet room, the quiet apartment. we’d never fucked like this before, not even when he got back from tour.
“fuck y/n, please…i’m gonna-“ he cut himself off as a loud moan escaped his open mouth.
i watched as his eyes squeezed shut, jaw dropped, sweat beading at his forehead making his hair wet. feeling his hot cum inside me triggered my body shattering orgasm. my eyes also squeezed shut, gasping as i clenched over and over. he lazily watched me cum all over him, a smile proudly on his face. he did that. he made me like this. i slumped on him, our sweaty skin feeling uncomfortable.
“jeez, where’d the graham i know go?” i joke, sitting up.
“i-i have no clue, love. but i enjoyed every bit of it.” he sucked in his bottom lip, an everyday thing he does that i love.
“you’re so pretty.” i play with his sweaty hair.
he looked down and blushed, a sweet chuckle erupting from him.
“would the pretty boy like to sit with me as i work?”
he looks up at me through his eyelashes, a shy nod being his answer. i get up and off him, soreness exploding throughout my body but i fight it. i hold out my hand, his soft hand taking it as i lead us to my previous spot. i sat him down, a confused look on his face that changed once i sat down on his lap, inserting his dick in my sore pussy.
“you’ll earn your round 2 once i’m done. no funny business. understood?”
“yes…yes..” he moans out.
i smile to myself as i went back to work. a eager graham trying to obey me while struggling to contain himself. this’ll be a fun day off.

in which... y/n is just trying to put on eyeliner and harry is bored pt. two
a/n: when she’s back from a six month hiatus after making only ONE fic. wow, do i suck. for anyone who cares, school has been pretty rough. i’m actually procrastinating studying for an exam to finally upload this. it’s been pretty hard to balance both school and writing but oh well. anywho, here it finally is. it took so long to write because i wasn’t feeling very inspired by this. a lot of people asked for a part two and even though i kinda wanted to leave it on a sad note, i am a sucker for giving the people what they want, so sorry if this is a bit shit- i definitely don’t like this one myself. i guess i’m not one for fluffy endings. well, at least for this one i wasn’t. i really hope you enjoy it! more stuff to come, if school doesn’t mind fucking off for a little while (or maybe just forever?) xox -(a) bug
pairing: best friend! harry styles x reader
summary: Harry is worried about Y/n. Y/n is worried about Harry. Harry is solving it by thinking of ways to check on her, while Y/n uses cheesy pasta and the Fresh Prince of Bel Air as an excuse to not think. But what will happen when someone is at her door, and it’s not her delivery man?
warnings: angst, swearing, y/n and harry being idiotos, fluffy end, kissing
word count: 5.3k
It had been a week.
One gruelling, painfully long week.
Harry was biting his nails, staring up at the ceiling as he laid in his bed, worrying about her.
About how he fucked up.
He didn’t think that she would be upset for this long. He thought she would scream at him and then text him the following day, wanting to hang out- a silent “I forgive you”, he supposed.
But after two days of radio silence on her end, he decided to call her. The only problem was that her last words to him were “leave”. She wanted space. She needed to think things through- what things? Harry had no clue. But he had to respect her and her choice to not want him around. So with that, he put down the phone.
But a small part of him (okay fine, a big part of him), wanted her to just show up at his house so they could cuddle again, talking about the stupidest of things while they made cupcakes in his kitchen. They would be listening to groovy music and now and then, they’d stop mixing bowls and sifting flour to dance- well, they were horrible dancers, so more so just wave their hands, hips and shoulders around. It would be fun and would always end up with them laughing at one another. He would lick the batter and she would berate him, telling him that “one of these days, you are going to get salmonella and I’ll just laugh at your stupid ass” and he would retort with something witty and a bit flirty like “don’t worry darling, we both know you would be right at my side if I got sick. I know you can’t stand being apart from me” with a wink and a cheeky smirk. He just wants to see her in her oversized Space Jam hoodie and little basketball shorts. Or her short flower shirt and his sweatpants that she has to cuff at the bottoms because they’re too long. Or even-
He’s gotta stop thinking about her, or his brain will soon explode. But he just can’t stop. He tries to think of the happier moments, like her showing him a tour of her very healthy houseplants that she prides herself in, but every time he closes his eyes, all he can see is her teary face telling him to leave. So no, if he was given the choice to think of her flailing her arms around in his kitchen to dancehall tunes while making sweet treats or crying at something that he provoked, you bet your ass he’d choose the former.
But after the seventh day, he knew that something wasn’t right. This was too much “thinking time”. For all he knew, she could be fine, but she could also be positively bawling. She could be living for this free time, but she also could be waiting for him to make the first move. She could be wanting Harry out of her life for her benefit forever, but she also could be feeling lonely and counting the seconds for their makeup, just like he was.
That was it. He had to go see her and make sure his best friend was okay.
He practised what he was going to say to her in his car on the way to her apartment. “Y/n, I’m so sorry for how I acted. I didn’t stop to think about how you were feeling and didn’t take your emotions into account which was unbelievably wrong of me. I’m truly sorry. It’s just that I really care about you and you’re my best friend and I can’t see you choose a tinder fuck over me and if I saw him in the street I would knock his lights out and I just want to kiss you, can I kiss you, oh god please let me kiss you I just want to-“
Fuck, what was wrong with him? Why was he so upset? He had been on plenty of dates with other celebrities and models and she was always on the sidelines, cheering him on. So why was he getting so touchy-feely about a single tinder date? Maybe he was just in desperate need of attention. He hadn’t had a girlfriend for almost one year and casual fuck arounds also stopped about four months ago, so maybe he just needed to fuck someone quick. That would explain why he sees his best friend’s kindness and natural flirty nature as something more romantic. Every laugh at his jokes, every look in her eyes, every graze of her hand on his thighs as she leans over him to get her drink on the side table next to him, he becomes more switched on and awake. She leaves him feeling giddy and excited at every conversation. “This can’t just be because I’m horny right?” he cannot believe he would ever be that horny. What the hell was he going to do?
*
This is pathetic she thought.
I’m pathetic.
She let out a huge sigh before shoving another forkful of cheesy pasta into her mouth.
What am I doing?
The answer?
Eating carbs upon carbs upon carbs, lounging on her comfy sofa in the most comfortable, yet daggiest pair of pyjamas ever while watching reruns of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air for the fiftieth time, actively avoiding all commitments, housework and jobs that involve moving further than to the kitchen, which even then was an embarrassingly burdening trek on its own.
But she let it slide. How could she not? She was upset and this was how she coped. That’s what she kept reminding herself as she boiled more and more pasta watching the days pass her by without realisation, but now, she’s beginning to question if this was the best idea. Pushing all thoughts of him out of her mind by not looking at her phone just in case he called or texted. But she was beginning to struggle.
It wasn’t his fault. He didn’t know what inner turmoil she was facing. He seemed genuinely hurt when she snapped at him. He truly didn’t understand why she took so much offence to the playground ribbing, it seemed. And she had to go be a dick and ignore him. He was probably worried sick. How many times would he have called to check up on her? 10? 15? The more she thought about it, the more she wanted this stupid feud to be over and just be in his arms again, even if it’s just as a friend. So she caved. Turned on her phone, expecting there to be at least a call or a text asking if she was still alive or not. And although she did receive a message of that likeness, it wasn’t from Harry, no. It was from her daily water tracking app, pleading her to fill in her daily intake of water so as to not die of dehydration after she was suspected to have not drunk any for the entire week when in reality, she was just too in her head to open her stupid phone and log her water.
Wow, she thought.
Now not only has Harry chosen to not speak to you, but you also look like a huge idiot right now. Of course, he wouldn’t want to talk to you! You got pissed at him for absolutely no reason and now he hates you. He’s gonna ask for his cardigan and track pants that he keeps at your house in case he wanted to sleepover. He’s going to take back all of his little knick-knacks that he leaves over, like the cute diffuser that he leaves because he knows you need it for your constant hay-fever that blocks your nose and then he’s going to declare that you aren’t friends anymore and then you will never get the chance to tell him how you feel and then-
Her panicky brooding is interrupted by a knock on the door.
“Who the hell could that be?”, she thinks. It was too late for it to be the postman with her package containing her entire Amazon wish list that she bought on the third day of mourning to make herself feel better. But it couldn’t be Mrs Xiao asking her if she had any holes in her shirts that needed stitching. The sweet old lady fell asleep at 8:37 pm sharp after her medicine that she’d take at 8:30 pm would kick in (which she learnt after spending nights over at her apartment where her niece, Mei, took care of her. Y/n would learn traditional recipes like baozi and watch movies with her two friends all the time). It couldn’t be Mei either, she was always in online uni lectures from 8:30-10:30 pm, locked away in her little study, so as to not bother or be bothered. So now, a little panicked, Y/n wondered who was truly at her door?
Another two knocks come, echoing off the walls of her little apartment as she turns down the volume of the program she was watching. She stares at the door from her couch, debating whether she should risk getting stabbed by a possible murderer or not, before ultimately deciding that life was too short. She was also getting sick and tired of the knocks that kept arriving in threes. She swings her legs off the couch and onto the floor, pushing them into her slippers so that her feet wouldn’t touch the cold floor, waddling her way to the door before shyly opening it, peeking at who it could be through the tiny crack in the opening, hoping whoever it was wouldn’t mind her current state: belly filled with pasta, hair knotty, giant shirt with sweatpants on and Harry’s patchwork cardigan hanging off her shoulders- which she had been wearing all day, cherishing the pretty piece of clothing and his scent imbedded in it, taking it all in just in case he asks for it back. She peeps at the torso of this mystery person, realising that Harry owns the jumper worn by them, before looking up and locking eyes with a worn out and tired eyed Harry, one hand in the pocket of the familiar hoodie and another extended out near the door, ready to knock again before freezing when it opens up all the way to show herself to her best friend. He doesn’t eye her up and down cheekily like he normally does when she is wearing pyjamas, wolf-whistling at her relaxed state, claiming that “You look runway-ready, my love! Do a twirl for the crowd, will you?”. Instead, he stares her right in the eyes with what looks like almost relief, before smiling a weak and broken smile.
One of them needed to break the silence or both would have just stared at each other in her doorway until the world exploded. So she starts.
“Hi.” her voice hovers a tinge above a whisper, almost as though if she dared to speak louder, this probable illusion of the one she loves would fade away. He lights up a little bit, probably relieved that she started the conversation.
“Hey,” his soft voice matched her volume and tone as if he too didn’t want this to be a dream. “May I come in?” The words sound awkward to her coming out of his mouth. Harry never had to ask for permission to be invited in- he usually just strolled in without so much as a holler to indicate he was present, finding amusement in scaring her instead while she was doing whatever she was doing, whether that be reading, watching a movie, cooking or napping. They were the best of friends and never had to inquire about entry to each other’s domains, along with other small things like if they had anything in their kitchens to eat or if they could sit somewhere, so hearing it was a little disheartening and provoked Y/n to think about how serious this situation was.
“Okay”, she replied after the pause of contemplation, opening the door fully so that the lanky boy could follow along behind her, like a little puppy. She didn’t like how awkward the situation was. She just wanted things to go back to what they were.
But then you wouldn’t be able to tell him you love him... her inner voice argued. And she agreed. She knew that yes, this will be awkward, but it’s an opportunity for him to listen to her and know that she isn’t joking.
“Would you like some tea?” She enquires. They’ll need to handle this like proper grown-ups (which in all honesty, isn’t their dynamic- it’s more like first-year uni students who are mature enough to have deep conversations but still laugh at dad jokes and anything remotely serious, like a painting with boobs), and from what she knows, or has seen in movies when the characters are being serious, is that you need tea or a drink of that sort and a sit down on the couch where you talk stuff out. So that’s exactly what she does.
“Yes please,” Harry’s soft voice replies as he toes off his boots that most definitely cost more than her apartment. Y/n nods and heads to the small kitchenette and flips the switch on the electric kettle before going into her cupboard that housed the mugs. Harry stood awkwardly near the sofas, and to save him the embarrassment of waiting while standing, Y/n invites him to sit with a small, “You can take a seat,” and a quick glance at him before returning her gaze to the mugs to make herself look busy. She didn’t want to look him in the eyes for more than three seconds in fear of bursting into tears and the worn out and tired sight of him. She shakes the thought out of her head and begins to prepare the mugs.
Y/n put two teabags in her mug while putting one in Harry’s. She was raised in a household of avid tea drinkers and she inherited her strong tea quirk from her father who would always keep two teabags with only a dash of milk, and the only difference between her tea and her fathers was that Y/n wasn’t strong enough to take her tea without sugar, unlike her father, who thought that drinking unbelievably concentrated leaf juice with milk was a fun and relaxing time. On the other hand, Harry liked to keep one tea bag in his mug while he drank it, but just like her father, he too took little to no sugar with his cup, being the health freak he was. And early in their friendship, when she mentioned it to him, Harry chuckled and chirped, “Your father is a smart man. He has to be for raising amazing and talented people like your siblings. I’m not sure what went wrong with you though...” while booping her nose as they laid together under a tree for a little picnic. And though she rolled her eyes at him and punched his shoulder for the sly dig at her, she was practically beaming at the fact that he thought her family was smart. Harry had no idea how much that meant to her. Y/n loved her entire family, and she was unbelievably close to them, so it made her entire week to know that Harry, someone she respected and loved so much, recognised how talented and smart each of her family members were. Don’t get her wrong, she didn’t need the validation to know that her family was amazing, but she felt so special knowing he took the time to notice. He did that a lot though. Doing things that meant a lot to her without batting an eye. Saying things that only a person as observant as he could notice, like complimenting her eye colour in the light and asking her to read for him because he constantly mentions how much he loves her voice.
Y/n looked over to the same sweet guy she fell head over heels for, who was sitting on her couch, fidgety as ever, and wondered if they would ever be the same after the very next moments to come. She didn’t want things to change between them, but she was dying inside knowing that he wasn’t hers. And getting over him was not in the question, after the fiasco that happened last week. She just wished she could get inside his head to sate her painful curiosity.
What is he thinking about?
**
What is she thinking about?
It’s the million-dollar question running through his mind. What was she pondering over as she made them tea? Did she want to talk to him? Was she mad that it took him so long to find the balls to face her? Was she as nervous as he was? Was she worried that they would never be the same again like he was?
He was going into panic mode, questioning everything, while probably looking stupid as ever. As much as he regretted how awkward things were now, and the fact that he instigated her to lash out at him a week ago, he was realising that he was not regretting the fact that he did it. He didn’t want her to go out with someone else, and she didn’t. And yes, of course, he feels bad-beyond bad, in fact- for making her cry, and wishes he could take it all back, he also sees this as an opportunity to tell her how he feels about her. He could finally tell her that he thinks about her all the time. About her soft smile, her bright eyes, her melodic laugh, her speaking voice that brings butterflies to his stomach. He could tell her about how he loses himself at work, the grocery store, fuck- even at events- thinking about what she was doing at her house. Was she under her blankets on her couch, watching some corny tv show? Was she baking her signature choc chip cookies that taste like the gods blessed every single biscuit on the tray before they were put in the oven? Was she knitting her cat, Chesnut, another rug to plonk herself down on, with her feet up on the ottoman as she listened to the 7 o’clock news on the radio? Was she writing a paper for another deadline? Something so sophisticated, like the exploration of white and male privilege and how it is ingrained in our society? Something that Harry tried to understand and research so that he could stay in the loop with his smart girl’s interests, but he always struggled with.
It was a huge insecurity of his. Not that his best friend was smarter than he was, no way. He treasured the fact that she could and would whip his ass at a debate on things like the state of the world, or human rights. She could school him on global politics, languages, maths, science, history and literally anything else, and he would be cheering her on. What he was insecure about was her realising that he was probably slowing her down in life. Y/n was well within her rights to kick him out of her life for being nothing but a freeloader and stopping her from reaching her full potential, what with him constantly stopping her from her own life to help him go through shit happening in his. Whenever he was sad, or confused, or upset, Y/n was the first person he would talk to and he feared that she would realise that he was probably taking advantage of her and stop talking to him. And that scared him. It scared him because he knew that she didn't need him at all, but he needed her to do anything in life. Every major and minor decision in his life has been approved by Y/n first, and not because she was a controlling friend who didn’t trust him with his own life, but because Harry needed her validation. Harry Styles, a world-famous superstar, had girls, guys and non-binaries at his feet, following his every beck and call. Harry Styles, who was on the cover of every magazine, known by every celebrity, dated only the most perfect of women, required validation from Y/n, a psychology major at a small university. Y/n, who liked to plan her day out on a to-do list, end up not doing anything on that to-do list and cry about it afterwards. Y/n, who breaks it down to “Murder She Wrote” by Chaka Demus & Pliers like it’s her last 4 minutes and 5 seconds alive on this Earth while making pancakes. Y/n, who cries more when she’s laughing while watching Tik Toks than she does during sad movies.
To celebrities, Y/n was nothing but a regular. But to Harry, she was all. She was the warmth of a sweater that you toss in the dryer for a few minutes to make it extra toasty. She was the pad of butter that you spread onto your pumpkin sourdough toast and it ends up being exactly the amount you wanted. She was the feeling when you are driving home from a long day of interviews and premiers, and you’re on the freeway and the windows down and you just… exist. She is the feeling you get when you watch Pride and Prejudice, and the relief of when you find the perfect word to end a lyric. She is when your shoes fit perfectly, and when you finish a book so utterly fulfilling that you lie there in a trance, looking up at your ceiling at 3 am, wondering how you could have been so lucky to be able to be blessed with an ending like the one you just read. Y/n was all those things and more.
And that’s why he had to tell her he loved her. No matter how scared he was.
***
The electric kettle is finished boiling the tea all too quickly as the bubbling comes to an end and the distinct click of the switch turning back off echoes around the silent apartment. Y/n had poured the scalding hot water into the two cups she had prepared stared into them.
It was time. She had tried to avoid this for as long as possible, but now it was the moment to face the music. She picked up the two mugs of tea and brought them to her lounge where Harry was sitting on her worn in green sofa, staring at her coffee table, eyebrows scrunched, pouted lips, deep in thought, before looking up at her with wide green eyes, and followed her to where she stood in front of him. She passed his mug to him before sitting on the comfy chair a few feet away from the sofa and from him, putting some distance in between them for her sake, so that she wouldn’t try to hug him and say sorry without saying what she needed to say first. Which she needed to start talking about now, so as not to sit in the awkward silence created by the two.
Say something!!
“So…’
Jesus fuck…. was that all you could think of? Wow. I am going to lose my best friend.
Y/n was choking.
“I am so sorry,” Harry’s voice intercepts, raspy from the lack of use, looking up from the coffee table he seemed so interested in. “I am so fucking sorry Y/n. I have no excuse as to why I was making fun of you that day. I pushed too far and I am a shit friend for not noticing that you were already on edge. It was so wrong of me and I am so sorry.” He stopped himself before he started to ramble, looking at her with eyes filled with an emotion she couldn’t decipher.
Y/n felt… unsatisfied. Why did she feel this way? He apologised, right? So why does she feel unfulfilled? Why does she want him to say more? He hit all of the points he had to for a standard apology, so why did she think he hadn’t done enough? Was it that little optimist in her brain hoping he would maybe reveal a slight attraction to her? Maybe tell her that he loves her, and has loved her forever and ever? Confess that she has bewitched him, body and soul so that she didn’t have to? God, was she an idiot. But a lovestruck idiot at that. She bites her tongue and replies.
“Harry, I forgive you. Although you were annoying as ever,” She rolls her eyes and smirks, while he lets out a breathy, half-assed chuckle, showing his acknowledgement at her attempt to ease the lowered yet still prevalent tension. She continues. “ I understand that you were just trying to have fun. I guess I was the one who irrationally lashed out . I am always okay with you poking fun at me, but I was just frustrated and tired and I took it out on you. I’m sorry for the improper communication and I’m sorry for pushing you away when we should’ve just talked…”
“I forgive you too. I think this was just miscommunication on both parts.” He stared into her eyes, almost as if he could sense the discontent in her, but chose to ignore it.
“I guess so.” She halfheartedly answered, not really knowing where to take the conversation next. They had both apologised, but evidently still had things to say. Well, Y/n had things to say, that’s for sure, but she was pretty sure that Harry wanted to say something too. He had that look on his face where he wanted to say something but was forcing himself not to.
What does he want to say? Why can’t he say it to my face? I mean, sure, I’m also hiding shit I wanna say, but I have an excuse. This could ruin our friendship. What does he have to say?
“Great,” Harry replies, trying to fill the awkward pauses and conversation that is being held. He still looked like he had something to say, but seemed like he was not budging.
Well, if he’s not saying anything, I’m not either. Why do I have to confess my feelings and put our friendship on the line if he isn’t even going to say what’s on his mind?
“So, are we good?”
“I don’t know. Are we? I mean, I forgive you and you forgive me, right?”
“Right… No yeah, we’re alright. We’re completely fine!” Y/n replies quickly. Why the fuck would you say that? You’re not fine.
There is a pregnant pause and Y/n has half a better mind to just get up, walk to the bathroom again with her head down and lock herself in there till he leaves again, because she cannot take this awkward conversation. Not with him. She shifts, ready to stand up to get some water, when Harry looks at her, confusion and slight panic setting into his face.
“Wait. I don’t think I’m fine…” She looks up at the boy sitting in front of her, reading the words from her mind like they were scribed on a piece of paper in the blackest of ink, permanent and bold. Her heart stuttered. What else did he want?
“Is everything okay, H?” she tentatively asks. He loses eye contact with her, gaze lowering towards the table in front of him
“I-” he pauses, trying to collect his thoughts while simultaneously trying to explain to her why he wasn’t okay. “I just- fuck” his head falls down, his face inches away from the hot tea in his hands, the humid steam billowing out of the mug and warming his elegant face as he takes a deep breath and tries once more to convey his thoughts. “I don’t want us to be friends again.”
Her heart stops. This could go one of two ways. He could either be confessing his hatred or his adoration for her, and either one would probably end with her imploding. She tries to take a neutral tone when she replies.
“What does that mean, H?”
He looks at her once more. “It’s not enough, Y/n... “
“What?” She is confused. Her friendship isn’t enough? How is she supposed to reply to that?
“I want more. I don’t want us to just be friends. I want to be more with you. I want to do more with you. I want to do things that friends… they shouldn’t do together…”
Is he trying to confess he likes her? Why, in all the ways you could speak, would he choose to speak like that?! She has had enough of him dawdling around his feelings. “Harry, stop being cryptic and fucking tell me what’s going on?!”
“I love you, Y/n! I fucking love you, Y/n. So much. And it is eating me from the inside out. I hate that we can’t be normal anymore, and I hate that you don’t love me the way I love you, but I cannot sit here and pretend everything is fine, because I love you.”
Y/n is stunned. Frozen in her spot. Can’t move, can’t speak, can’t breathe. Stuck in space, and stuck in time.
Holy fucking shit… he loves me…
While Y/n processes the life changing knowledge that her best friend loves her, her best friend conveniently sits next to her, wishing that he was dead for the letdown he was about to receive.
“Say something… please, for the love of God, say something!”
****
She looks up at Harry. Not Harry Styles, playboy, whore, singer, millionaire, but instead; Harry, her best friend of five years, reddened face out of embarrassment. She sees the mortality in his eyes. Feels his presence so heavily in the moment. She is in awe. True awe of him, and his ability to love her. And with that awe- and that stupid look on her face, she reaches up and cradles his face in her hands, brushing her thumbs softly over his plush pink lips. He stands just as still as her, barely breathing, as if it would shatter the fantasy to stardust and he would wake up in his bed, cold shivers running down his spine, as has happened previously whenever he thought of this moment, staring up at his ceiling at 3:40AM wondering why he thought of his best friend in such a way. She creeped closer to his face before stopping a breath away from him, and whispered.
“Is this okay?”
She looked into his eyes, and he looked into hers, both never feeling so alive before. He wishes to tell her that she needn’t ask for his permission, and that he wants to kiss her forever. Eternally locked in an embrace that holds their souls together. But all he can muster is a weak and broken whisper back.
“Please,”
She can hold it for no longer, and leans in the rest of the way, their lips moulding together, for the very first time, eyes fluttering close, as his hands reach to grab her by the hips to straddle him, deepening the kiss even further. And when they part for breath, panting for air with slightly moist lips, they touch foreheads, eyes still closed. Words needn’t be exchanged- everything that yearned to be said was useless, as it could never describe how they truly felt for each other. So hopelessly besotted with one another, that all they could do was breathe together before kissing once more, hoping that their actions could provide even an iota of an idea of how much they love one another.
Two best friends, turned lovers forevermore.

(First mini fic with Chase and Leo from my playlist. I hit shuffle and got this first so... Enjoy the darkness song on my playlist for an opener I guess lmao)
Chase/Leo: Free Fall Without a Parachute
I toss and turn in hot, uncomfortable and sticky sheets. The air conditioner is off and only a ceiling fan spins uselessly - doing nothing more than tossing hot and wet air around the room in circles. The heat wakes me from dream. One that felt so real... The choking stagnation causes me to sigh in defeat. Now that I'm fully awake the dream slips from my mind. I pull the blanket off myself and scan the room for Leo. He's almost always next to me and I don't know how to feel without him hear. I can't hear or smell him nearby so I try to listen for him. The sound of baritone humming and singing from down the hallway catches my ears. He must be making breakfast for us.
I smile, knowing that it’s all real. Leo’s still here for me, even after everything I put him through, after everything we went through together. It’s been some time now… since I decided to stay with him here in Echo. Finishing school after what happened those few nights was hard. I still had nightmares about what those assholes put us through. It’s always been a mystery to me, how bad the whole 'Hysteria' really got. Everyone else went through something I can only describe as supernatural... But not me and Leo. Just the two of us together through it all - And just two fucking meth’ed out rednecks tearing us apart. But Leo kept me safe that night so, here I am... with him back in Echo.
I give up on sleeping but still fallback to laying in the messy and hot sheets, to lazy to get up. My mouth is dry and I’m dehydrated but I know Leo will come for me soon. I lay my head down and try to relax but the room starts to spin. Deep purples and reds swirl past my eyes and with every passing moment and it just keeps getting worse. The walls are getting smaller and right before I scream for help, My Wolf comes bouncing around the corner, breakfast in hand. “Mornin’ Chula!” His voice and smile snaps me from the bout of delusions.
The room is still and the colors are back to normal for a second. Leo walks through the doorway, his red fur staining the room a warm wine color, light filtering peacefully through the window shining off his coat. “Morning Leo.” I beam at him in response. HIs tail wags rapidly as I begin to set up our in-bed food tray we got for ourselves for lazy mornings. Once its set up Leo places our meals on the tray and bounces up over me onto the far side of the bed, then onto and through the underside of the tray, all so we can cuddle together as the delicious smell of his admittedly mediocre food washes over me.
I curl myself into his embrace, placing my head under his chin so we fit together perfectly, just like I know he loves. His burly left arm pulls me closer as we share a moment together. It’s peaceful and quiet. The sound of my growling tomach is what finally causes us to pull apart in embarrassment and a fit of giggles. “Let's dig in big guy, ya?” Leo nods his head in confirmation as we quietly eat together in bed. Leo’s presence is so comforting to me. I feel safe with him nearby, like he somehow turns off the noise in my head. I turn to look at his handsome face but I’m greeted to the sight of him chewing wildly and messly. He catches my gaze and covers his mouth trying to hide how sloppy he was. I laugh and use the ruined sheets to wipe his mouth. “Sorry Nutria, didn’t mean to make a mess!” I sigh, content with the situation. We needed new sheets anyways.
“Nothing to worry about Leo.” We smile at each other and both go back to enjoying the meal together in peace.
After we both finish eating, Leo takes the plates and tray to the kitchen to clean while I stew in the room by myself. It's not long before the heat gets to me again and a familiar red glint fills my vision. I curl my tail over my body holding it meekly. These - These things I see are different from what I used to see... The accompanying headache creeps over me as I lay balled up on the bed. The sensation of someone pounding on the back of my eyes and the inside of my skull reverberates through my bones and face. It’s always like this when I’m alone or when it's too hot out even when I was back in Pueblo finishing my degree after that night. My senior year was the hardest by far. Along with the new headaches, Jenna hadn't spoken to me after that night and any online contact from Carl and Flynn went radio silent. Ever since Brian and Duke c-
The sound of a rapidly wagging tail smacking into narrow walls snaps me back to myself again. Leo bounces back into bed and we’re cuddling again despite me sweating. His ability to shrug off the desert heat while it suffocates me is something we're gonna have to work on more now that we live together. “Leo turn on the air, it’s soooo hotttt” I whine in my twinkiest voice - it helps him listen to me faster.
“Oh I was meaning to talk to you about that Chase.” I turn to him and listen patiently, droping the bratty act. “Money around here is going to be a bit tight for a bit. My uh… my parents fired me.” I gasp and cover my mouth with my paws. The webbing is cracked and dried. “Said they didn’t appr-approve of us anymore.” Leo’s voice goes quite and I can see tears forming in his eyes. His voice raises an octave and he whimpers as he holds my hands, pulling them from my maw. He usually doesn’t drop his guard even around me. But I know this is tearing him up inside. It’s tearing me up too. Aside from our income being cut, his parents have always been extremely supportive of us. My parents cut me off too, for some reason, and Leo’s parents who had always been a second family to me now doing the same is making me burn up inside.
On shaky breathe I ask “Why Leo, why would they do that?” Leo responds by sobbing into his paws. I’ve never seen him break down like this… even when he rescued me that night. I don’t remember much, nothing but a large, red form pulling from the mines and away from that psychotic bear. The doctors said all the bloodloos might affect my memory and it was a miracle I pulled through. They said my boyfriend cauterizing the wounds was enough to save me till the next morning. It’s funny, I also remember laying on Leo's kitchen floor screaming in pain as he burnt the wounds closed but I don’t remember Brian making them in the mineshaft. Maybe it’s better that I don’t remember what Brian did to me...
I shake myself from my dark thoughts to remember to hug Leo to try and comfort him. My mind wanders as I absently pet him. The money is an issue. Even with my degree it’s hard to find work, a couple online magazines here and there but it's barely enough. Especially after my parents decided not to help with the few loans I had to take even though they said they would. I always knew my mom and dad didn’t approve of Leo and me being together. Us deciding to move in together after school was what made them pull funding. It pissed me off to no end, like the lies Jenna and even fucking Carl told them about Leo.
The anger makes my headache start back up, even though Leo is right next to me. I wince past the pain and hold him close, cuddling him for once as he cries. Leo's apologizing for putting us in this situation. I know it’s not his fault. He always knows what's best for us though. He has to… He has to know right? Because if he didn’t … I click two fingers together finally remembering what I dreamt about.
I need to Leo about my dream. If he knows how I felt maybe it would snap him out of it. “Hey Leo,” He turns to me, sobs calming down enough for me to talk. I continue when I know he can hear me. “I had a dream last night,” He’s paying attention now. Deep and focused. “And in my dream I took a knife to you.” it... It wasn't a good dream.
“Chase?” His voice is questioning and terse, now back to his ‘regular’ octave. His accent is thick as he tries to analyze what I'm saying. “I slit your throat from ear to ear. The wound was gasping for the air…” I trail off not wanting to finish even though I HAVE to tell him. It was such an ugly dream.
“Chase why are you telling me this? Why are you saying it like that.” I can’t read his emotions anymore.
“Chase?” Leo’s scared again. Both my paws are around his throat. My stumps ache as I ‘stand’ on them for leverage. I don’t know why I want to hurt Leo. Why those thoughts would drive me to that. I've been through much trying to stay with Leo, why would I throw it away like this. Finishing school in a wheelchair was hard enough but everyone leaving me… leaving me alone with Leo, was harder. But I know we could make it together. We would have to, because Leo knows what he’s doing. He wouldn’t lie to me when he tells me he does, even though every day it gets harder - it gets worse. More and more alone… and, and because if he was lying about that. Then that means he’s a liar. And if he was a liar.
“Your sceam so clear. But every dream could never come true.” I grip the hot and sticky sheets… If my dreams were true then that means, that means…
The sheets gripped in my paws are stained red from that night. It's been more than a year and that sick fuck hasn't changed them, from what he did to me. He couldn't be fucking could he? It would mean I was crazy and my friends and family weren’t when they told me what they saw. But I know better. I know Leo. He wouldn't lie to me. I know that fucking bear was insnae, of course he’d torture me like that, so I couldn’t esacpe his sick mass grave shit. He probably fucking ate them, that’s why we never found anything when the police looked in the mines. That sick fuck would do something like that. I fucking hate him. I fuckng hate him. I fucking hate him. I want to tear is fucking throat out, I want to rip his fucking windpipe out with my bare fucking claws I want to -
My vision burns red as the pounding at the front of my skull starts again and I collapse into him. Leo strokes my tail and head. He calls me his Chula and Love and all of the kind words and all of his sickly sweet nicknames as I pass out in his arms, the pain and anger to much to bare.

Chapter 34
You came down the stairs in the morning to see Spencer staring out the window of the sun room.
He occasionally sketched something in his journal, poking his tongue out of the corner of his mouth, before glancing up again.
“What’s up, love?” you asked him, wrapping your arms around his waist from behind so you could peek into his journal full of sketches.
“I want to build a treehouse for Jo to use and the twins eventually. Maybe even grandkids,” Spencer smiled softly.
“I like that idea but please tell me you are having someone help you. I don’t want you up on a ladder by yourself,” you warned him.
“Derek was more than happy to help,” he kissed the top of your head.
“I’ve got to go to Lowe’s to get the wood planks. Do you want to come too or I can bring all the kids with me?”
“I am not going to miss alpha-male Spence,” you bit your lip, “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
“I’ll get the kids up if you make coffee,” he bargained.
“Deal,” you gave him a quick peck before sending him up the stairs.
Spencer came back downstairs with the two twins in the double carrier and Jo holding his hand. He was dressed in jeans with a measuring tape hooked to his belt and the leather brown doc martens you bought him on his feet.
“I was not expecting to be this turned on at 8 in the morning,” you whispered to him with a giggle which caused him to blush.
“Can we get donuts on the way, Mommy?” Jo asked.
“Of course, Baby J. Let’s go.”
-
You had Ollie and Ophelia in their portable car seats in the shopping cart while you and Jo were eating your donut munchkins and watching amusedly as Spencer pretended to know what he was doing.
“It’s okay to ask for help, love,” you reminded him.
“Fine,” he huffed, “Let me go get an employee. I have all the practical knowledge of how this should work but believe it or not, I was never a big handyman. I would just call my landlord when something broke.”
After getting the wood situation settled, Spencer brought Jo to the paint swatch section.
“Princess, you can pick any color you want for me and Uncle Derek to paint the tree house,” Spencer told her.
Jo took her time, carefully examining each swatch and considering her options before deciding on a pale lavender.
“Excellent choice,” Spencer smiled, kissing her cheek, “You got your love of purple from me.”
-
“I’ve got it!” Jo announced at the knock at the door.
“Jo!” Derek smiled as she opened the door.
“Uncle Derek!” she jumped into his arms.
“Long time, no see, kiddo. You’re growing so fast.”
You walked into the entry way with Ollie and Ophelia in your arms.
“Spence is already out back. Please be careful, you two. I don’t want to drive to the hospital today,” you cautioned.
“I’ll be out in just a second. I need to see my two godbabies first,” Derek extended his arms, taking Ollie from you and giving him little kisses on the cheek before doing the same to Ophelia.
“They still keeping you up at night?” Derek asked.
“Not as much nowadays, it’s a little harder with twins because as soon as one cries, the other follows. But Spencer always insists on getting up so I really can’t complain,” you smiled.
“Alright, I’ll head out there and get to work so Jo can have her new treehouse as soon as possible,” Derek waved.
“Hey, man,” Derek greeted Spencer as he walked outside.
Spencer looked up from his journal, “Oh, hey! I have got some preliminary blueprints sketched out that you can take a look at. Thank you so much for your help today. I really appreciate it and the kids will too.”
“Of course. You know things between me and Savannah are getting pretty serious so maybe my kid will be playing up there one day too,” Derek smiled.
“That’s so great to hear, Morgan.”
“I have you to thank for that. Seeing this life that you created outside the BAU inspired me. It made me realize I want more than to be a travelling single man my whole life,” Derek stated.
“I’m happy you’ve found someone you can see yourself settling down with,” Spencer smiled, “You and Savannah are welcome over any time for dinner.”
“When did you know Y/N was the one?” Derek asked.
Spencer couldn’t believe the Derek Morgan was asking him for girl advice. But then, he remembered he had everything. He had managed to win over his dream girl. His soulmate. His everything.
“The first time she laughed at an awful joke I made. I just knew from that moment on, I wanted to hear it over and over again and I would do everything in my power to keep that smile on her beautiful face,” Spencer admitted.
The sliding glass door of the sun room opened.
“Sorry to interrupt but Jo and I just made some fresh lemonade and I don’t want you guys to get dehydrated out here,” you said as you placed the pitcher and cups down on the table, “Why are you looking at me like that?”
Spencer’s lovesick gaze was laser-focused on you.
“I asked him when he knew you were the one,” Derek informed you.
“Oh,” you smiled softly, reminiscing, “For me, it was on our first date when he held every single door for me and would even run ahead to make sure it was open. I knew I had found myself the perfect gentleman.”
You gave him a quick peck before heading back inside.
-
You woke up already crying. You cuddled further into Spencer’s chest as you teared up.
“I don’t want to go. Please, Spence, I want to stay home with you and the kids,” you sobbed.
“Love, remember, I asked you last week if you wanted to go back or if you wanted me to find a job instead and do you remember what you said?” Spencer cupped your chin and gently forced you to look up at him.
“I love teaching,” you sniffled.
“I completely understand if you change your mind but I think you should give it at least a day.”
“No, you’re right,” you kissed him before getting up and heading to the bathroom to get ready, “Besides, it’s spring so before you know it, the semester will be over and I’ll have all summer with you and the kids.”
“That’s my girl,” Spencer smiled.
-
“Okay bye, my beautiful babies,” you kissed Ophelia and Ollie’s heads, “Be good for Daddy while Jo and I are gone.”
“I will text you pictures of them every hour on the hour and you can facetime us at lunch if you want,” Spencer assured you, giving you a goodbye kiss.
“Ready, Jo?” you asked, extending your hand for her to grasp on to.
“Yes, Mommy,” she grabbed your hand.
“Have fun at school and work!” Spencer called out, crouching down and moving Ophelia and Ollie’s little arms as if they were waving goodbye.
-
Your day had gone as well as could be expected. You felt like eventually you would be able to adjust back to your regular work schedule. Spencer’s constant texts throughout the day and the multiple framed family photos that he got you for your office desk definitely helped.
You got home, setting your keys and bag down on the counter next to a takeout bag. Of course, Spencer got you takeout from your favorite restaurant on your first day back because he’s just that sweet.
You hadn’t heard any noise from within the house since you got home so you headed out to the back porch.
You saw Spencer in a hammock tied between two trees in the yard, soaking up the sun. Ollie and Ophelia were sprawled across his chest with a protective arm draped over them and Jo was curled up into his side with his other arm wrapped around her.
You quietly walked over and snapped a picture that definitely would be added to your office desk’s collection before laying down on Spencer’s other side.
He awoke from the rustling you made trying to get yourself settled.
“Why are you crying, love? During our last check-in, you seemed fine,” he whispered concernedly.
“Nothing is wrong, my family is just too cute and my husband is too sweet,” you smiled softly, “Now pass me a baby. You can’t hog them all to yourself.”
in case you missed it, i posted a stand-alone smut one-shot of RF titled ‘All Clear’ but it is not necessary to read to continue the plot of the story and it is strictly 18+

Okay okay okay so imagine Reader is abducted by the separatists because she ( or nb reader ) is a very well loved member of the senate. So obviously Anakin goes to save her, but his idiot plan gets him captured as well so then it's up to Reader to talk her way out of this mess, get to her idiot boyfriend, free him and then both of them try to make it out alive. Bonus points for Obi-Wan looking very tired and sick of Anakin's ideas in the background. What do you think?
Anakin Skywalker x Fem!Reader ~ Rescue Operations?
Summary: After the Reader is captured by the Separatists, Anakin rushes to save her. When this doesn’t work out, the Reader has to get her and her boyfriend out of this mess.
Warnings: Language, whump, one scene where the Reader gets beat up, Reader is a badass, Anakin is completely in love with his badass girlfriend and we love that for him
Words: 3.8k
A/N: Catherine, my love!! I’m sorry this took me so long, I have nothing to say for myself other than my poor organization skills. But I’m obsessed with this request, I hope I did it justice <3

You groaned as you opened your eyes and attempted to shake the drowsiness that seemed to cling to your very bones. You blinked, trying to get your bearings and remember what had happened. You were preparing for your speech at the Senate, trying to pass a peace treaty between the Republic and some smaller territories that were debating joining the fight against the Separatists. You’d been fighting for support for the treaty for months and you finally had the chance to give one last speech before the vote.
You’d been pacing in your Coruscant apartment, practicing the speech for your boyfriend a million times. After you finished your recitation, you exited the room, needing to get your notes that you’d seemed to misplace. So you went into your office and… nothing.
Why couldn’t you remember after that?! You opened the door to your office, walked inside, and…
You sighed as you came back to the present, leaning against the wall behind you and looking around. You were clearly in a cell of some sort and the Separatists were almost certainly behind this. You were still in your Senate attire, although it had been thoroughly scuffed up, and they’d taken your datapad and other communication devices. You felt around your boot and smiled. Your knife was still there. They must have assumed you wouldn’t be carrying a weapon to your speech and not done a thorough enough check. Whatever the reason, you were thanking the Maker it was still there.
Back in Coruscant, Anakin was walking the Temple halls in a crazed state. When you didn’t show up for your speech, he immediately panicked. He knew how important this treaty was for you and the entire Republic; you’d been going over it for forever and there is no way you’d just blow it off without telling anyone. The rest of the Senate was also concerned. You’d grown up in one of the poorer districts and, thus, had a sense of relatability and humility that most were drawn to. Whether or not they agreed with your policies, almost everyone could understand that you always kept the interest of the people at the forefront of your mind.
When Obi-Wan walked up to him with a ripped piece of your clothes and your scattered and crumpled notes, Anakin felt his heart drop.
“It was the Separatists. They must have knocked her out in her office and escaped through the vents.”
Upon seeing his absolutely heartbroken expression, Obi-Wan added, “We’ll get her back, Anakin. I promise.”
Anakin could only nod, ideas for a plan to save you already running round his head.
You’d been in this kriffing cell for four days now. Or maybe it was five? You were desperately trying to keep your wits about you but it was so hard; they brought you a tiny ration of food and water once a day and it was not near enough to keep your strength up. You’d spent your time trying to carve your way through the bars but your knife was no match and you quickly gave up, not wanting to dull the blade. You’d found a loose brick hidden around the floor and used the knife to cut it out, allowing you to hide your weapon under it on the off chance they searched you again.
You tried to think of a plan to escape but they hadn’t even opened your door yet. There was no way you could get out by yourself and, until someone came in that you could attack, it was pointless to even try. They kept you in complete darkness and silence, no way to tell how much time had passed aside from the daily rations. You assumed you were on a Separatist base but that proved unhelpful; they were widespread and the cell held no defining features of climate or location. You had tried calling out to see if anyone else was around. Each time, you were met with your own echo.
You stilled, hearing footsteps approach you. A Separatist guard opened your cell door, roughly pulling you out. You yelped, legs not cooperating after so long of sitting in the cramped cell. He led you into another room that was barely brighter than your own. Sizing up the guard, you felt fear creep in. No matter how hard you tried to banish your anxieties, knowing they’d only serve to lessen your already shaken focus, it was sometimes impossible.
“Tell us which planets are deserting.” He commanded.
You met his stare evenly, refusing to let your fear betray you. There was absolutely no chance you’d tell him anything. As soon as the Separatists learned which planets were thinking about joining the Republic, they’d send armies to wipe them out immediately. You refused to let that happen.
“Fine. Be that way.” The man pulled his fist back and sent it into your cheek, the impact sending sparks of pain throughout your entire body. He brought his foot up, kicking you in the gut and you fell harshly onto the floor. He grabbed you by your hair, hoisting up your body as if it were a ragdoll. You gathered your strength and spit in his face, enjoying the way his smug look disappeared. In retaliation, he slammed you into the wall, the impact making stars cloud your vision.
The man released you and you fell, your consciousness already starting to detach from your body. You tried to reason with yourself, hoping logic would aid you. This is a trauma response. I’m not going to die. My body can take this. I will black out, but I will wake up again. They’re not going to kill me. They need me alive. I’m not going to die. I’m not going to die. Somehow, the hardest part is this was banishing the thoughts of that beautiful boy from your head. You knew that if you allowed yourself to think of him, to fathom how he would blame himself should this be your end, you would give in.
Instead, you focussed on the physical pain you felt, on the rage you channeled to this guard. You hated how weak you felt, how exhausted you were. You allowed your mind to hone in on all the ways you could hurt this man, given you had your full strength. You let yourself hate yourself, appalled at how you couldn’t even fight back. With every punch he threw at you, you went further into your head, into the one place this man couldn’t touch. Eventually, your mind started spinning from dehydration, pain, and overexertion. All you could do was curl into a fetal position and hope it somehow stopped.
“What do you mean you’re going to find her?” Obi-Wan said, running after Anakin.
“It’s been days, Obi-Wan, days. There are only so many Separatist bases in the galaxy and Y/N’s on one of them.”
“Anakin, don’t you think they’ve planned for a rescue mission?! This is Senator L/N we’re talking about! And they took her right before the vote, this was clearly a thought-out attack, stop acting like it’s simple!”
“It is simple! Those Separatist assholes have Y/N. And it’s been days. What if she thinks we forgot about her? What if she thinks we’ve given up? They could be doing fucking anything to her and I’m not going to let her stay there for another minute!”
“Anakin-” Obi-Wan began but Anakin waved him off.
“I’m sorry, Master. But if the Council won’t do anything, I will.”
“Anakin, the Council is trying! They just don’t have enough troops right now to send a full rescue mission after one Senator. They just want a few more days, then some troops should be back from their missions and you can have your full battalion.” Obi-Wan took a breath and lowered his voice, empathy for his friend clear in his words. “I know you love her. I want her back, too, you know. I’ve grown quite fond of her; her friendship is quite dear to me. All I’m asking is you be careful and think this through.”
“Believe me, I have thought this through. I wouldn’t do anything to put her in danger, we both know that. And while a few days doesn’t seem like much to the Council, we’ve seen the harm these Separatists can inflict in far less. Listen, it might not be the strongest plan I’ve ever made but, if it’s between a semi-formed plan and none at all, the choice is already made.”
With that, Anakin jumped into his ship and took off into the night. Obi-Wan sighed, leaning his head into his palm. He knew how much you meant to him and he knew of Anakin’s frustration with the Council. They moved slowly, wanting to figure out every angle before jumping into a decision. While Anakin was a brilliant strategist, he tended to act impulsively when someone he loved was in danger. As Anakin traveled further and further from Coruscant, the older Jedi could only hope that the both of you returned home quickly and safely.
Anakin looked at his ship’s display and cursed when he realized he was low on fuel. He’d been piloting for hours and there was still no sign of you. He was searching out for you with the Force and, still, nothing. Finally, he felt a faint energy pulse through the Force. He followed it to what was supposed to be an old abandoned Separatist base, concerned by how weak your lifeforce felt.
He parked the ship and got out carefully, trying not to alert anyone to his presence. He pulled out his lightsaber but was careful not to ignite it. He saw an open door and ran through it, relief blinding him as he felt your energy grow stronger with each step he took. He turned the corner and saw a crumpled body on the floor of a tiny cell.
No, Anakin thought, it can’t be her.
Without thinking, Anakin ignited his lightsaber, wanting to use the light to discern if the figure was truly you. The noise bounced off the walls and startled you awake. He mentally cursed himself and instinctively turned off the saber, not missing the even louder noise it made with it turned off. He inwardly facepalmed, realizing if he hadn’t alerted the guards before, they sure as hell knew now.
You blinked groggily, wincing at your immense injuries and bruises. You remembered passing out while that asshole beat you and now you-
Wait, You thought, is that a fucking lightsaber?
You knew you must have heard it wrong, there’s no way the Council would have approved a relief mission this quickly. Further, there is no way it would consist of just one Jedi.
Suddenly, the lightsaber re-lit, illuminating your boyfriend’s face. His determined expression grew stronger as he noticed the 10 guards surrounding him and pointing their blasters directly at his head. You smiled. He could take out ten guards with his eyes closed. You called to him in shock, hardly believing your eyes. He looked at you and immediately widened his eyes as he saw a guard come up behind you and point a blaster directly at you from outside your cell.
“Lightsaber on the floor, Jedi, or the girl dies.” The guard growled.
He looked at you in anguish and you could tell he was already beating himself up for “messing up” your escape plan. You shook your head, hoping he understood your message: this isn’t your fault.
“Anakin don’t-” You couldn’t even finish the sentence before his weapon was on the floor. He put his hands on his head. As they grabbed him, you stood in helpless silence as they threw him in the cell beside you. They locked the doors and, once again, you were in darkness.
You desperately crawled to the edge of your cell, trying to reach out to him. He was doing the same and when you felt his fingertips against yours, you almost started sobbing. You weren’t alone anymore.
“You came for me.” Your voice was soft, disbelief lacing your words.
“Of course I did, my love.”
Then, as if everything finally registered in your brain, you reached out and tried to slap his arm. “Anakin, what about the Council? They’ll kill you when they realize you went on a rescue mission, alone, and without approval! Ani, the only thing keeping me going in here was knowing that you were safe! And now you’ve gotten yourself thrown right next to me, no weapons, no light, no food, no water, no escape! What the fuck are we going to do?!”
Anakin had opened and closed his mouth multiple times throughout your speech, trying to find a way to plead his case but was left without one.
“I just wanted to save you.” The grief in his voice made you sigh and take a step back. This was your Anakin you were talking about. Your safety was his priority, always. Besides, doing all this because he was afraid for you? You couldn’t possibly stay mad. You smiled, despite yourself. Anakin. You thought, slightly shaking your head.
“Fuck, I love you. Is it selfish that there’s a small part of me that’s glad you’re here with me?” You said, breaking the silence.
Anakin breathed out a sigh of relief, glad you weren’t upset with him anymore. “Not at all, my love. So long as it isn’t bad that my least favorite part of this is not being able to see or kiss you properly because of this damn darkness.”
You chuckled, lacing your fingers with his once again. “You wouldn’t want to see me right now.”
Anakin froze. “Y/N? What are you talking about?” His voice was serious, clipped. He knew you would try and make it seem less than it was. You winced, realizing there was no way to lie your way out of this one.
“Just what the Separatists would call aggressive negotiations, I presume.”
“How bad?”
“It’s fine, Ani, I promise. Let’s just focus on getting out of here, okay?”
Anakin took a deep breath, collecting himself. “Alright. But as soon as we get back you’re going to a medical droid.”
You groaned. “Anakin I hate-”
“I know you hate the medical droids. But that’s only because they always rat you out when you try and lie to me about the extensiveness of your injuries.”
“You lie about how bad your injuries are, too! Remember that one time you came back from Kamino?!”
Anakin laughed, despite himself. “You’re never going to let me live that down, are you?”
“You were literally bleeding from the head! And you said, and I quote, ‘it’s just a scratch’” Every time you thought back to that day, you were incredulous.
“Alright, alright! Let’s just focus on getting out of here.”
“That’s my line!”
“Y/N,” He warned.
You smiled. Maker, you missed him. You honestly didn’t think that anyone else would have you laughing while you were beaten and captured.
“Okay. What’s the plan?” Anakin said, back to the matter at hand.
You lowered your voice, leaning toward his cell so you could talk without being heard. “I snuck a knife in with me and I’ve been able to keep it a secret. Now that you’re here, it might actually come in handy. The problem was that I couldn’t stab anyone because no one would come into the cell. I need you to get them here. Push them against the side of your cell, the one closest to me, and I’ll stab them. Then while they’re hurt, you run out, unlatch my cell, and we’ll go.”
“I’m dating a fucking genius!” You could just about hear the smile in his voice.
You smirked. All things considered, you were pretty proud of yourself.
“When do you want to do this?”
“They bring daily food and water rations in the morning, I think? I can’t exactly tell what time it is, they’ve kept it so dark and isolated. Regardless, the next time they come by I need you to get them in here. They normally just leave the food outside and push it under the door.”
Anakin could hear the disorientation in your words and wanted nothing more than to be able to see you, to be able to hold you and reassure you that it would all be alright.
“Okay, angel. Got it.”
“Anakin?”
“Yeah?”
“Thank you for coming to get me. It’s really good to hear your voice.”
“Always, my love.”
Both of you silenced when you heard those footsteps. You smiled for the first time as you heard them. We’re going to get out of here.
“Yeah, that’s a great idea, Y/N! This brick in here is loose!” Anakin announced loudly. You bit your cheek to suppress a smile as you watched Anakin catch the guard’s attention.
“What did you say, Jedi?!”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Anakin responded, dramatically feigning innocence.
The guard huffed and you internally cheered as he roughly opened the door. He walked over to your boyfriend, keeping the blaster pointed at him. As soon as the guard’s attention shifted to the “loose” brick, Anakin used the force to knock the blaster out of his hand and push him against the wall of the cell where you slashed his Achilles tendons.
The guard howled in pain and you knew you had to work quickly if you were to get out of here before the rest of the Separatists found you. Anakin fumbled with the latch on your cell, the immense darkness making it difficult. Finally, he got it open and ushered you out. The both of you took off in a run and he gripped your hand with his metal one as you did so.
You immediately stopped as you felt his hand roughly pulled from yours.
“We’ve got you now, Skywalker” The guard said.
“Y/N, you ready?”
You blinked, unsure what he was referring to. Then, you heard an object whipping through the air and on instinct shot your hand out, catching it. You ignited Anakin’s lightsaber that he had summoned to you with the Force, it’s signature buzz making you feel powerful beyond words.
The light caught you off guard and you squinted until your eyes adjusted. You saw Anakin held back by two guards. Hearing faint footsteps, you took off in a run. Anakin ducked as you swung wildly, hitting and taking out both guards.
“You done holding us up?” You said, extending your hand toward him once more and passing him his lightsaber.
Anakin smiled, accepting it. “My sincerest apologies.”
You both ran, hand-in-hand, until you finally made it to the exit.
“What?” You said, as Anakin stopped abruptly and looked at you, panicked.
“The ship! It’s out of fuel!”
“It’s what?!”
“I-” Anakin and you stared at each other, flickers of doubt coming into your gaze. You can’t believe that you’d been able to escape for nothing.
“Anakin! Y/N!”
You whipped your head around at the sound and were met with another ship a few meters down, Obi-Wan piloting it.
“Well? Are you coming, or what?” You and Anakin looked at each other in shock before taking off in a sprint, one guard now close behind you.
He started shooting and Anakin pulled out his lightsaber, deflecting some of the shots. As he focused on that, you pulled your knife back out of your boot and sent it flying into the guard’s chest, effectively stopping his pursuit.
Anakin smirked at you, awestruck. You shrugged before jumping into the ship, extending your arm to Anakin and helping to pull him up with you. You entered and immediately leaned against the wall of the ship, relief coursing through you. You laughed and Anakin joined in. He immediately pulled you into him, kissing you hard.
He broke away from the kiss, looking at you with adoration. “You are a fucking badass!! You’ve never even held a lightsaber and between that and your fucking tiny knife you took out four guards!! I didn’t even get any! I’m not going to lie, Y/N, I’m a bit jealous.”
You laughed, leaning into him but wincing. As the adrenaline wore off, your pain was suddenly quite palpable. He noticed and pulled back, scanning your face and body.
His smile fell as the extent of your injuries sunk in. Your busted cheek, scratched face, and ripped clothing that exposed some of your many bruises across your torso and limbs were overwhelming.
“You kids alright in there?” Obi-Wan said, walking in from the cockpit. His smile died on his face as well as he took in your form.
“I’m alright, guys. It’s not as bad as it looks.” You said dismissively.
“That doesn’t look like nothing!” Anakin shot back.
Obi-Wan looked at you apologetically. “Anakin’s right, Y/N. Please, rest. We’ll be back to Coruscant soon.”
Coruscant! The Senate! “My speech!! Fuck, I had to present my speech! I’ve been gone, what, a week? They’ve probably already voted, Kriff.”
Obi-Wan shook his head. “They decided to suspend the vote until you were back, Senator. They truly care for you and your policies.”
Your heart swelled at Obi-Wan’s words. You looked into Anakin’s eyes and saw that he agreed with the statement full heartedly. He took your hand and gently ran his thumb up and down its back.
“Rest, my love.” He whispered to you, coaxing you to lie down on the coach and pulling off his Jedi cloak. He wrapped it around you as a makeshift blanket, smiling as you pulled it closer to you and drifted off.
Obi-Wan walked up to Anakin and placed his hand on his shoulder. “Let’s leave her be, okay?”
“I don’t want her to wake up when I’m not here.”
The elder Jedi nodded in understanding. “She’s exhausted, she won’t awaken until we get back to the temple, I assure you. And if she does, you’ll just be in the other room.”
Anakin looked at you once more before smoothing the hair back from your face and gently placing a kiss on your forehead. He let his palm run down your cheek before he finally pulled himself away and walked into the cockpit with Obi-Wan.
“So, how did you plan pan out?”
Anakin looked at his former Master, unamused. “I think you already know. How’d you know to come get us, anyway?”
“Well, when you didn’t come back or even attempt to contact the Council for over a day I assumed something had happened. I tracked your ship.”
Anakin nodded. “If not for Y/N, we’d probably both be dead.”
Obi-Wan laughed. “I heard! Four guards?! You’ve found yourself a good one.”
Anakin smiled. No words were needed, everyone knew that was completely and utterly true.

wayv’s reaction to their s/o taking care of them when they’re sick
love your blog :))
WayV’s Reaction to Their S/O Taking Care of Them When They’re Sick!
Hehe, thank you <3 I’m sorry about it not being too active recently, but I’m trying to pick it up again.
Kun:
Tumblr media
He gives me such a warm vibe
We all know that Kun is one of the members of NCT that care for the rest of boys.
A member of the Mom Squad™, if you will.
So when he falls ill and is unable to take care of himself due to a high fever and dizziness, he almost insists that he tries so he doesn't become a burden to you.
"You don't need to care for me, you know, y/n. I can do it myself..."
"Kun, you can't even stand for a minute without becoming dizzy. Just relax and stay in bed... Let someone take care of you for once."
He's the type that even on a sick day, he feels useless unless he's doing something.
Or feels as if he NEEDS to be doing something.
You'll have to reassure him that he can spend the day in bed.
His heart goes soft when you bring him food and drinks you've prepared yourself.
"Thank you so much for taking the time for this, y/n... It means a lot."
Ten:
Tumblr media
I think that Ten would kind of just relish in the fact that you're taking care of him.
He's so thankful that you are, honestly.
He's pretty confident that if you weren't taking care of him, he'd be a malnourished husk with a flu in bed.
"What would I do without you, y/n?"
"Well... I assume right now you'd be a dehydrated mess and feeling worse because of it."
When you bring him food or your special lemon tea with honey he finds it so comforting.
He may complain about the symptoms more than just trying to rest.
All in all, you're both relieved when he starts to feel better.
"I love you... Thank you for taking care of me. You really made me feel like a prince... A hella sick one but a prince nonetheless."
Winwin:
Tumblr media
This gif makes me giggle. He's so cute.
I think Sicheng would want to be a bit more independent when sick.
I can't see him as the type that would want people to do things for him unless it's really necessary.
So when he's really down with the flu and the poor boy doesn't even have the muscle strength to get up and get himself a glass of water, it really impacts him.
"Thanks for taking the time to care for me, sweetheart... I know it's a lot of work and I should really be taking care of myse-"
"Sicheng, I have no complaints about caring for you. You're sick and I'm your other half so of course I'll take care of you."
He may feel guilty about being unable to do anything, so he'll need reassurance like Kun that's it's alright for him to relax and just have someone else worry about him for a little bit.
"When you get sick, I'll take care of you just as well as you took care of me."
Lucas:
Tumblr media
Lucas would really depend on you when he's sick
I mean, you'd be his safe place, right?
So when he's in bed, tissues tossed everywhere as he whines because of the lack of nose breathing he's doing
You bring him a lot of comfort as you lay next to him
"I can't breathe through my nose, y/n... I don't want to become a mouth breather.."
"Do you want me to get out the Navage so you can clear your sinuses, then?"
"No. I don't want my brain tickled. I'll just live with mouth breathing for now..."
He never forgets to tell you how much it means to him that you take care of him.
And if you get sick from caring for him, he'll take care of you in return.
"Just hopefully the cold doesn't cycle between us..."
Xiaojun:
Tumblr media
Xiaojun hits me as the type of guy that would try to brush off feeling unwell until the last moment.
For example, trying to power through the day with a terrible headache until he finally realizes that the headache has won the fight.
So when he's coughing terribly and has a stuffy nose, you have to convince him to stay home.
"y/n, I told you I'm fine," he croaks out before coughing.
"Look at you. You can't even speak a sentence, Dejun. Just stay home for today... Let me take care of you."
After you brew him some tea with honey and make some warm soup for him, he finally starts to admit he's feeling a bit under the weather.
"Maybe you were right... Thanks for making me stay home. I don't think I could've made it through the day."
Hendery:
Tumblr media
When sick, Hendery is kind of like an obedient child
He'll do anything you say just to make himself feel better
I mean, who even likes being sick?
Tell him that he needs to have his soup and immediately go have a nap for his body to try and work out the cold
Man will immediately do that
"I just want to feel better, y/n..."
He's clingy too, he just wants to lay down with you and have you gently stroke his hair
Will update you on any symptoms as soon as possible
May also be the type to Google his symptoms and thinks he's going to die from a small chest cold
"It says here that I have tuberculosis! The symptoms match up"
"Hendery, if you had tuberculosis, your doctor would've sent you immediately to the hospital when you saw him on Monday."
"That's true..."
Yangyang:
Tumblr media
Yangyang, along with Ten, would relish in having you take care of him
I mean, we all know how he tries tot get the rest of the members of WayV to bring him stuff all the time
He'd probably spend his sick day in front of his computer
"Yangyang, why don't you rest? You can't game all day..."
"Why not, y/n? What's the difference between being in bed and sitting at my desk?"
He'll try to show you that he's feeling better than he actually is
And by that I mean, he just wants you to think that he's not weak and that a cold can't bring him down
For example, if he gets a migraine, he'll try to pass it off as just a small headache and he'll be "fine"
Until it gets unbearable
It gets so bad, poor guy can't even read without having white splotches all over his vision
Finally, then he'd admit that he really needs to lay down and have a nap/rest
"You were right, y/n... If I just listened to you, I wouldn't be here suffering from a migraine..."

That's My Job - Glatt x gn!reader
~ Ask Link ~
Characters: Glatt x gn!reader, Fundy, mentioning Quackity
Summary: You haven't been back to Manburg since Schlatt died. Now that Techno's destroyed every trace of it, you've returned with Fundy to drink and mourn. Fundy leaves you to your devices and Glatt ends up waking you up, taking care of you, and confessing...
Warnings: lots of cursing, heavy drinking, death, mourning
------ sorry it's so angsty lmao I just love torturing myself :) ------
Ever since Schlatt suffered his massive heart attack at the end of his presidential term, you’ve been wandering the SMP. You’d gotten close to him during his campaign trail, eventually helping him do paperwork, or rather, you did it all for him. You hadn’t been back to Manburg since his death, but now that it was gone, completely gone, you decided it was time to return.
It was a crater. Nothing was left. The office building was gone, the festival grounds were gone, and even the presidential podium was gone. Now, glass covered the crater, giving you the full view of what you had been most afraid of. It made you sick to look at it, bringing up memories from the election.
The worst part of it was that he was gone. Everything in Manburg that reminded you of him was gone, even his friends were gone. The group split shortly after he died, giving up on the decimated country. He was the only thing keeping them together. For better or for worse.
“Hey, Fundy,” You said, stuffing your hands in your pockets. He'd offered to come with you, knowing just how hard it was to be back there.
"Hey, it's nice to see you again," He carried a bottle in his hand and offered it to you. He'd already popped it open and taken a sip of it. "It's a bit strong, but you might need it."
"Thanks," You took it readily, not bothering to read the label before you took a swig. The liquid hit your tongue and burned as it went down. You coughed, spitting the remaining drink on the ground, "What the hell is this stuff?!"
Fundy was practically on the ground laughing. Your tongue and throat still burned from the alcohol and you rotated the bottle to read the label.
Fundy™ Vodka, (98% alcohol)
"Are you trying to kill me Fundy? This shit is ninety-eight percent alcohol?! How did you manage that?" he continued laughing at you as your face burned from embarrassment.
"It's a trade secret," he chuckled, "The people in Las Nevadas really love it," he shrugged.
"How are they all not dead?"
"Don't ask me," He said, "I'm just their dealer. Quackity buys in bulk."
For a moment, it was as if Schlatt never died. You laughed with Fundy for a bit, drank, and reminisced. It was like old times, the hay day, but every time you looked around, you were painfully reminded of the past.
"Hey, I wanted to show you something." Fundy stood, offering you a hand. You were both buzzed already. Each sip of the vodka went down like two shots and you'd gotten a decent way down the bottle by now.
"I'm happy to stay anywhere other than here," You took his hand and gestured around at the crater, "This place sucks." You swallowed a lump in your throat and followed Fundy off the path.
You looked down as you walked. You didn't want to be reminded of him any more than you had to. The people here were moving on from it all already. To be fair, it had been a while, but you'd been closer to him than anyone else, even closer than Quackity.
"Here," He stopped and pointed at the clump stones in front of him. He sat down on the bench as he had done many times before, letting you inspect your surroundings.
"What is this?"
"It's a shrine thing I made," He said sadly, "A long time ago. I haven't been here in a long time, so I refreshed the flowers a bit for you."
The cobblestones were unmarked, put in a rough pile surrounded by oxeye daisies and dandelions. To any passer-by, it was just a pile of rocks. To you and Fundy, it was Schlatt's grave.
Of course, he wasn't buried there. He'd been buried in a nice grave surrounded by gold and diamonds, but it had been griefed so many times that it wasn't worth visiting anymore. Instead of being reminded of him, you were reminded of how many people hated him. Here, it was much quieter.
"Thoughts?" Fundy asked, passing you the bottle as you sat with him.
"It's not bad," You took a swig, used to the taste by now, "I can't help but think that it's painfully accurate that we're getting drunk at his grave."
Fundy laughed briefly, eventually letting the blanket of silence fall over you. The lump in your throat rose once more and you swallowed it with another sip. This must be what he felt like at the end. Drinking to forget, shoving his problems down as far as he could with each drink until, one day, his heart couldn't take it anymore.
"You ok?" Fundy asked, concerned.
"Huh? Yeah," You stared blankly at the stone pile, "Just thinking."
"You're crying," He said.
You touched your cheek and found it wet with tears. You hadn't cried since the day he died, the day you left.
"Do you..." He sighed, "Want some time alone?"
You hesitated. "Yeah," you croaked, "as long as I get to keep the alcohol,"
"Just don't drink it all," He touched your head and walked off.
-
"Hey. Hey. Get up," You felt a finger poke your temple and you jerked awake to Schlatt's voice.
"Finally," He sighed, "What do you think you're doing on my property?"
Through your hazy vision, you saw him.
"Schlatt?" You reached your hand out towards him, but you felt nothing.
"Yeah, yeah," He moved out of your reach, "Hands off, kid."
You rubbed your eyes and squinted, there's no fuckin' way...
"What the hell?" You spat, "Is this a fever dream or some shit?"
In front of you was Schlatt, or a paler blue version of him. He was holding the bottle of vodka, reading the label.
"Oh so Fundy's got a damn business now, does he?"
"Whoa whoa whoa," You ignored him, "Schlatt?! You're alive??"
"Calm down," He rolled his eyes at you, "haven't you ever seen a ghost before?"
He tossed the bottle back to you but you fumbled it and it shattered on the ground.
"Shit!" The bottle broke into sharp, jagged pieces. No vodka came out of the bottle, it was empty.
"You're still a terrible catch, good to know," He sat beside you, walking through the glass. You realised with a start, He's translucent...
You woke up fully, putting your hands on your face and shaking your head. Your brain rattled around in your skull, giving you a painful migraine. The bottle was empty... how much did I drink? Your memory from the past few hours was more or less blank, only the occasional flash of sunset or Fundy was left.
"You're drunk as fuck, you know that?" He said, sitting judgingly.
"What?" I must be if he's here, "Are you even real?"
"Yeah," He sounded offended, "Look at me! What do you mean am I real?"
You laughed, now convinced you were out of your mind. "How was I supposed to know?"
He furrowed his eyebrows at you, evaluating your mental state. "That stuff will kill you." He said, genuinely concerned.
"Oh, and you'd know all about that, Schlatt," You spat, "As if I hadn't warned you a thousand times,"
He leaned back, "Says the person who left the country the moment I died,"
This sent you over the edge and you started sobbing. You put your hands to your face, practically screaming into them. You refused to deal with these emotions for so long, and in some cruel twist of fate, you'd become the thing you hated the most. You'd done the thing you warned Schlatt about countless times. It finally came back to bite you in the ass.
"Sorry, I-" He started, putting his hand on your back. He didn't know what to say, he wasn't the best at comfort, "I've missed you,"
Your sobbing calmed down slightly, downgrading to crying. The tears stung your eyes and your throat burned, partly from the drink, partly from the stress you were releasing.
"C'mon, let's get you cleaned up," He said, standing to lead you down the path. You followed, stumbling slightly as the drink caught up to your balance. Just before you fell, he caught you and slung your arm around his shoulder, practically carrying you.
"Man, I was hoping you'd be in better shape the first time I saw you."
"What do you mean?" You mumbled, leaning on him heavily.
"I mean I haven't seen you in so long," He bit his lip, "I was starting to think you'd never come back. Then I saw you with Fundy, drunk as a skunk, sleeping on my bench. Not what I'd say was a good first impression. In such a long time, I mean."
"Yeah, but you're... dead."
"So? What is that supposed to mean?"
"It means you died. You had a fucking heart attack, alright? We mourned for you, I mourned for you. I ran away because I couldn't bear to look at them. Those people who said they were your friends. They took different sides. They gave up on you. In a way, I guess I did too, just because I had to."
He grits his teeth but kept walking. "I was just as disappointed in them as you, kid."
You'd reached the end of the path. He looked around quickly and opened the door. You recognized it as Fundy's house. It was vacant, Fundy was nowhere in sight. Schlatt laid you down on his bed, leaving to get a washcloth and a glass of water.
"Sit up," He said, pushing the glass into your hand.
You grabbed it readily and took a swig, dehydrated from the tears you'd shed. As you drank, he put the damp washcloth to your forehead and neck, trying his best to sober you up a bit.
"You're on fire." He said, frowning at you. "Your face is all red. How much of that stuff did you drink?"
"The whole bottle," You muttered.
"And you're still alive?" He laughed.
"I'd ask Quackity the same thing,"
"What does this have to do with Quackity?"
"Fundy's selling it to Las Nevadas, I guess." You shrugged and he haphazardly dropped the washcloth in Fundy's cauldron.
"What?"
"Las Nevadas," You laid back down, "Quackity has a city now. Leaned into the whole gambling thing."
"Jesus, I missed a lot, haven't I?" He laid next to you, the sheets didn't move.
"I guess so." You turned to look at him. His suit was torn like he hadn't changed it since the day he died. His beard was barely shaped, his hair a mess, and his horns were as sharp as ever. He was exactly the same as he looked that day. Dishevelled and broken down.
"I mean it, I missed you." He said, "It's not like I had any paperwork to watch you do, but I wish I had."
"You watched me do that?"
"Yeah, I had to make sure you weren't stealing it or something," He excused.
You chuckled, "You never kept track of that shit, there was no way you would have known."
"Alright fine, you want me to admit it?"
"Admit what?"
"You make this... face when you work. When you're really focusing on something... It's hard to look away."
Your heart skipped. The ghost of Schlatt confessed to having a crush on you? No one would believe this, especially since you barely believed it yourself. You burst out laughing at the ridiculousness of it.
"What?!" He snapped.
You kept laughing as your head throbbed, the headache coming out in full force now, "You had a crush on me?"
He scowled, "No." He sat up and tapped his foot on the ground, "I have a crush on you."
Huh? "Even though I've been gone for months?"
"Yeah," He said, "It's not like you forget someone like that."
He sounded sad, distant almost. Like you were the ghost.
"Hey," You shuffled over to him, putting a hand on his leg, "It's super cheesy, but," You sighed, god I sound like a child, "I like you, too."
His face flushed, as much as a dead person's face could flush. "Little old dead Schlatt?"
"Yeah, why not?" You sighed, "It's been so long since I've seen you, but... I mean, why do you think I left?"
"I don't know. I thought about that a lot while you were gone."
"I left because I cared about you. It was too hard to see you in everything around me. I left to get my mind off of you because every waking moment of every goddamn day was spent thinking about you," He looked at you, poorly holding his poker face, "I only came back because everything was gone. There was nothing to come back to. Or so I thought."
"Yeah, Technoblade did that." He jeered, "Twice."
"This isn't about him," You put your head on his shoulder, "If I'd have known you were still here... I would have stayed."
"To be fair, I was stuck in... hell... for a while until I finally figured out how to get back up here," He said, "By the time I'd come back... You were long gone. Months had passed."
"It was selfish for me to leave. I'm sorry."
"No, it was shitty of me to be mad you didn't stay. You told me so many times to put down the damn bottle and yet, you stayed by my side until the end. I let you down."
"I guess we both have things to be sorry for, then." You said.
You sat in silence for a while, coming to terms with what you'd both just said. It wasn't in either of your characters to say anything like this. There were some serious feelings passing back and forth between the two of you, and nothing to prepare you for them.
"Fuck I'm gonna puke," You said.
He pulled back, "Don't do it on me, sicko, Jesus!"
You laughed, "I'm fuckin joking, relax,"
"Just..." He leaned back and grabbed a blanket to swaddle you in it, "No more drinking, no more feelings for tonight. You need to sleep, and I've got all the time in the world to watch over you."
"It sounds creepy when you put it that way," you pouted.
"I'm not gonna-" He rolled his eyes and tucked you in, "Just let me know if you need anything. We don't really need sleep with the 'eternal slumber' bullshit, ya know?"

I don't know how to end this lmao, I hope you enjoyyyyyyed :3

It’s been a week since you last saw him and it still hurt. You miss him so much and it has become harder and harder to ignore these feelings. You have tried making yourself believe that this happened for the best of the two of you but it’s slowly getting tougher to swallow.
You and Rafe had been dating for years before that night happened, it still hurt to think of him.
You believe you’ve cried everything you could. Your body is now completely dehydrated and no tears are being created. In which you can’t help but thank with your now zombie-like mood.
“I’m going to get us a coffee, do you want anything else?” Sarah, your best friend, who is sitting next to you, asks.
You shake your head and she gives you a small smile. You stare back at the screen of your laptop, in hopes to finish what you were previously doing for school, and try to ignore all the sound around you.
You whisper the words you were reading to yourself, trying to make them make sense, but your peaceful silence is broken by a group of guys walking in the café. You sigh annoyed while staring at the screen, wanting to throw something at their loud mouths. But decide otherwise.
“Hey, Sarah. Haven’t seen you in a while” One of the guy says and you lift your eyes to where Sarah is standing.
Sarah smiles at Topper and starts a conversation as soon as she does it. You look away from them and look at the other person standing beside him, Rafe. He’s looking around himself, eyeing the inside of the café that he has never seen before.
You force yourself to look away and lean back on the couch that you’re siting, trying to pay attention to something else other than him as your chest gets heavier and heavier by each second that passes.
Sarah says a little goodbye to Topper and ignores her brother’s presence before walking towards you. Rafe fakes trying to trip Sarah and she sends him a glare, which just made all the boys laugh.
His eyes follow his sister and his smile falls at the sight of you staring at the screen of your laptop. You look up at Sarah as she hands you your drink and laugh at something she says.
He pleads, in his mind, for you to look up at him but you don’t do it. You’re too distracted with whatever his sister is saying to you. And only God knows that might be.
“Yo, Rafe. Can you please come back to Earth for a second?” Topper asks, making his best friend snap out of his thoughts.
“Yeah, what, sorry?”
(...)
“I promise it will be cool” Sarah insists, “We can spend the night watching movies and eating junk food”
“How is going to my ex boyfriend’s house going to help me move on or even feel better?” You ask as she lays comfortably in your bed.
“He’s never home at Friday’s!” She exclaims, “We’ll have the house to ourselves the whole night. It’s way better than staying here, where you need to have your door open because of your parents... Seriously, when are they going to trust you enough to close the door?”
You chuckle at her words and shake your head.
“Ah! Made you laugh!”
You roll your eyes and turn your attention back to your book.
“Now, can you please agree on coming over to my house? It will be so cool, I already have so many movies in mind. Oh! And soooo many snacks”
You think for a few seconds in silence.
“Please” She whispers into the air, looking at the ceiling, “You will have so much fuuun”
As Sarah is done singing her words, a smile fills your lips again and you sigh.
“Fine. But just tonight”
(...)
If Sarah could describe out loud what she’s feeling, she would have to do a whole essay. Because...
Why the fuck is Rafe still home at this time of day? Isn’t he supposed to be in a party?
The thing is, you’re almost getting to her house. Just like you had planned. There’s snacks on top of Sarah’s bed, the chosen movie is already paused at her bedroom tv and the pizza is also on its way.
Her 19 year old brother is the one fucking it all up.
You’re supposed to come into her home to forget about him, and be calm and relaxed. And now, she feels like wherever she looks, Rafe’s there.
“Weren’t you supposed to be at a party today?” Sarah finally asks.
Rafe looks up from his phone, still leaning back on the kitchen counter, not even knowing that she had been glaring at him this whole time.
“Yeah, but I decided not to go” He answers with a shrug.
“Won’t that make you a bad friend?”
She’s using every play in the book now. She needs him gone for at least the whole night.
Rafe chuckles at his sister’s words and looks at her confused.
“No?”
Sarah sighs and walks over to the fridge when listening to his answer. Rafe follows her with his eyes as she fills a cup with water and curiosity takes over him.
“Why?”
“No reason”
“Bullshit”
Sarah rolls her eyes at his stubbornness and looks back before staring back at him.
“I wanted the whole house for myself and my friend, is that too much to ask?”
Rafe laughs.
“Since when am I such a bother to your little sleepovers? You never leave your room anyway”
Sarah opens her mouth to answer but the ringing of the doorbell stops her from doing so. Rafe lifts his eyebrows as if in surprise when seeing her reaction and lowers his eyes back to his phone.
Sarah glares at her brother when noticing that he isn’t planning on leaving the kitchen any soon and turns on her heels to go to the front door.
As she walks closer to the door, she smiles at you through the glass and opens it.
“Hi!” She says excitingly, “Are you ready for the night of your life?”
You smile at her, “Sure”.
Sarah steps to the side to let you in the house, and you wait for her to start walking towards her room so you can follow her.
As you pass the kitchen doorway, you can’t help but look inside. You’re used to looking in and seeing Rose doing something, but this time, it isn’t Rose. It’s Rafe.
Air gets caught in your throat and you look away as quickly as you can. Rafe stays on his phone innocently, not even acknowledging who just came into his house.
Should you say something to Sarah? Does she not know that he’s in the house too?
You and Sarah get to her room rather quickly and she closes the door right behind you two as you walk in.
She’s quick to lay in her bed and open the covers for you, and you can’t help but grin at her as she opens one bag of chips right away.
“You ready?” She asks before pressing the play and you nod, “Let’s go”
Sarah presses the play and the sound of the universal studios entrance fills the silent room. You bring the covers closer to you and Sarah hands you the bag of chips just so you can take some of them.
And...
Not even halfway through the movie, Sarah highly regrets watching the movie while laying down because she’s out like a light.
You stare at the TV in silence, grinning slightly at Sarah’s slight snores as the main characters talk about their feelings in the TV.
But your mind is occupied with something else. You’re not paying much attention to the movie anymore. The plot stopped being of your interested when you noticed that Sarah had chosen the movie purely because of the cast.
Understandable, we’ve all done it. But romance movies are not a good choice when you’re trying to forget your failed relationship.
Already tired with your thoughts, you stand on your feet, away from the bed and drag yourself out of the bedroom.
Rafe must be in his party, now, since that was what Sarah said when you questioned his presence in the kitchen.
You walk down the stairs of the empty and silent house and drag your warm feet over the cold ground towards the kitchen.
As you grab a cup from the shelf above you, you almost groan at all the memories that hit you at once.
All the times that you and Rafe made breakfast on his days off classes, eating cheap fluffy pancakes until you felt sick with just the idea of drinking water. Or when you helped him through a big hangover after a big party.
The second memory hits you like a tone of bricks.
Those mornings and the nights before, after the parties, were the reason of your breakup. You couldn’t stand to see Rafe kill himself with all the alcohol almost every night and the various drugs that his friends could get a hold of each month.
You walk towards the fridge, chest heavy with heartbreak, and fill your cup with cold water. The feeling of the freezing temperature over your fingertips wakes you up back to reality.
You hear steps in the hallway, right outside of the kitchen, and you don’t think much of it as it might be Sarah.
The door swings open and your eyes widen slightly at the sight of Rafe. His hair a complete mess, his eyes hold a sleepless look, and his clothes are slightly scrunched up. He looks like he’s had a rough night.
You don’t say anything, looking away as he looks at you. He clears his throat as if to fill the silence in the air and walks towards the shelf, grabbing a glass cup.
He didn’t know you were the one sleeping over.
He doesn’t look at you or says anything.
You can’t help but think in all this silence how much you want to run home, right now. You love Sarah but you can’t stay here any longer.
Your feet don’t move from under you and you’re left to stare at the floor as Rafe fills his cup with water as well.
Both of you silent, fearing to break the peaceful absence of sound as your minds fill with all the good memories and the possible beginnings of conversation.
You finish your water and walk towards the sink to leave the cup beside it. Rafe’s eyes stay on you as you do it, but you don’t care to look up before walking out of the kitchen.
“Shit” Rafe whispers to himself as he hears your footsteps getting further away from the doorway.
You walk in the living room, not wanting to go back to bed, and make your way towards the glass sliding doors that lead to the porch.
The warm air of the last summer night hits you and you walk out, leaving the door slightly open. You walk towards the railing of the porch and lean against it, watching the calm waters under the dim lighting coming from the house.
You sigh as you rest your cheek over your fist and close your eyes to try and concentrate on your breathing other than your feelings.
The door behind you slides slightly but you don’t care to look back to see who it is. But that is until, it slides closed and someone stands right beside you.
“I wanted to talk to you” Rafe says.
You take a quick look at him before staring away into the grass of the garden right in front of you.
“About?” You ask in a whisper as he doesn’t say anything else.
“I don’t know” He answers with a shrug and you frown in confusion, “I just wanted to talk to you”
He really likes making everything worse for you, uh?
“We’re not supposed to be in talking terms,” You answer, “Not after our last conversation”
“I know”
You look down at your hands and play with your fingers as a way to fight out your emotions.
“I’ve- Uhm...” Rafe starts but pauses. You look up at him and see him scratching the back of his neck while staring at the ground.
“You’ve what?” You encourage.
“I’ve been clean for a week” He admits and looks down at you.
You look away and do a very small smile, rather fake, while staring at the grass once again.
“Hope it lasts” You say before biting your cheek.
“Me too”
Silence, again.
“I’m... I’m sorry for not listening to you before. About the addiction, I mean.”
You don’t say anything.
“You were right, and I was too stupid to not want to listen to you” He continues, “I’m sorry”
You look up to find him still staring. His gaze softens at the sight of you finally looking back and you give him a slight grin.
“You don’t need to say sorry. I’m sure it’s not something easy to swallow, to hear someone say that you’re addicted to something”
Rafe observes your expression twitch slightly at the mention of his addiction and his chest tightens at your saddened gaze as you sigh.
“I did it to myself” He admits with a shrug, “Just didn’t expect these many consequences to come from it”
“Like?”
The look he gives you is a good enough answer. You look away with that and he tenses up next to you.
He just screwed everything up, didn’t he?
“It happens, Rafe” You whisper, “At least it was able to motivate you into changing”
“Yeah... It was” He agrees, “I just- you know, feel like this could’ve been done in other ways”
“Of course, it could’ve” You answer bringing your shoulder up as if you’re shrugging, “This is just where our argument took us”
Rafe can’t help but disagree. It wasn’t the ‘argument’s fault’, it’s his. His words. His sick and disgustingly affected by whatever he took, words.
“Will you ever forgive me?” He blurs out, catching both you and himself by surprise.
“Forgive you?” You ask confused, “I’m not even mad at you”
“You’re not?”
“No” You say with a frown, shaking your head slightly, “I’m mad at myself more than I am at you. I could’ve helped you before you became addicted, and I-”
“You know it isn’t your fault that I’m the fuck-up that I am, right?” He asks you and you glare at him.
“Don’t call yourself that” You say, “We’ve been over this, Rafe.”
“It’s true” He says with a slightly annoyed tone, “I fuck up everything, I’m just-”
“Shut up”
He falls silent, not wanting to ruin anything further.
“You’re not a fuck up” You say, annoyed that he could even think that, “Don’t let your mistakes fucking define you, Rafe. We’ve talked about this. You’ve fucked up, yes. But who hasn’t?” You pause so that the words can sink in, “Sarah has fucked up, I’ve fucked up. Your own dad has fucked up before... I didn’t break up with you because of your mistakes”
He looks at you confused.
“I’ve broken up with you because I couldn’t bear to see you kill yourself any further while everyone fucking stared and did a whole bunch of nothing” Tears swell up in your arms, “And that maybe, just maybe, you could’ve taken your mind off your drugs to just think about what you can lose with them”
You sniffle and look away, not wanting him to see you cry.
“It was my selfish way to make you wake up, want to try and get help-” You say with your voice shaking, but he interrupts you.
“Hey” He says, “It wasn’t selfish”
“I-”
“No, you’re going to hear me, now” He interrupts, “How can you say that what you did was selfish when you were trying to help me? That makes no sense! I’m not getting help yet, but if that’s what you want me to do, I’ll call my dad right fucking now and I’ll go to a clinic tomorrow”
“Rafe” You start, turning back to look at him.
“I know I’m supposed to do this for myself and not anyone else, but fuck. I’ve been dating you for years. I love you more than I’ll ever love myself. I can’t lose you. Not over something that I did”
A sob escapes your mouth and you cover it with your hand. Rafe, with that, pulls you to his chest and wraps his arms around you.
“Just please, give me another chance” He whispers into your hair, “This time, I’ll get all the help I need. I won’t ever push you away, or put anything before me and you”
You wrap your arms tightly around his torso and sniffle into his chest.
“Okay” You whisper, “But you have to promise me that you’ll get the help as soon as possible”
You look up at him, still hugging him, and he looks down at you.
“I promise”
A faint smiles is drawn over your lips and Rafe presses a kiss onto your wet cheek, pulling you back into the tight hug.
“I’ll call my dad tomorrow” He whispers.
“And I’ll be there with you” You whisper back.

I honestly almost cried while correcting this. Am I the only one?

Faint ( Steve Rogers + reader)
summary: Steve is concerned when the reader passes out
word count: 1276
warning: mention of eating disorders
You walk into the living room at the compound and say hi to Steve who's sitting at the kitchen island and Peter who's on the couch. "Hey y/n" they reply.
Before you can respond, you start to feel dizzy, your eyes slightly roll back in your head as you suddenly pass out. Steve shouts and Peter leaps over the coffee table "I got them!" He says. He grabs your upper body in time before you hit your head on the floor. Steve is next to you in seconds. " what happened? What should we do? are they gonna be alright?" Peter asks in a frenzy. Cap picks you up and lays you on the sofa that Peter was sitting on. " I hope they'll be fine. Wet a washcloth and bring it to me" he ordered. Peter rushes away to get it.
Your body aches as you start to regain consciousness. You squeeze your eyes before opening them slowly. "Cap y/n's awake!" Peter shouts across the room. You wince at the volume, Peter notices " oh, shoot, sorry y/n, didn't mean to be so loud."  " 's fine Peter." You said groggily. you take the washcloth that was on your head and set it on the coffee table " what happened? how'd I get on the couch?" You held an arm out and Peter slowly helps you sit up.
Steve came jogging in just then, hanging up his phone call he was on. He came to sit next to you. "Are you okay y/n? I was worried." "Why? What happened?" You ask, getting a little bit frustrated." you fainted." Peter said. " oh." That was all you said, changing the subject you asked Steve who he was on the phone with " Bruce. I was asking if I should bring you down to med bay cause you weren't waking up, but then, you did." "How long was I out?" You asked " almost three hours. I suggested we call Mr. stark and Nat but they're both out on missions today and.." you cut him off." You don't need to go and interrupt the rest of the team while they're doing their jobs, Peter."
You start to stand, Steve seems apprehensive " are you sure you're okay, y/n? Maybe you should rest for a little longer." You shake your head, starting to feel a little suffocated. " I'm fine Steve. But thanks for taking care of me through that guys." You grab the book you dropped and hurried away.
When Bruce showed up at the tower later that afternoon, Steve insisted, more like forced you to have him check you over to make sure you were okay. You begrudgingly agreed and let the scientist give you a quick checkup.Steve went to Bruce after you left on patrol with peter. " well, how are they?" He asked the doctor who read over his notes with a grim expression. " their vitals were mostly fine. But y/n's underweight for someone of their age and height."
Steve leaned back against the wall for stability. " when I picked them up, they felt light as a feather, even someone without super strength could probably do it." " they also felt cold as well. You have an idea what that is?" " most likely y/n is also dehydrated. those are all common signs of eating disorders." Bruce said. cap was honestly shocked" what should we do?" Bruce walked over and placed a hand on his friend's shoulder. " go talk to y/n. If they're willing to confide in you, that's great, if not, you give them some time to open up. But I wouldn't advise going around and telling the whole team. Does anyone else knows that they fainted?" " Peter was spending the day here with me, it was just the three of us." "Okay. I'll talk to Peter when they get back." Bruce said.
When y/n and Peter came back an hour later, Tony, Natasha, Bucky, and Sam had made it back from their mission. Bruce grabbed Peter before he could say anything about today's events. While y/n didn't even say hello to anyone, they just went straight to their room. Cap walked down the hall until he reached their room and knocked. " it's Steve, can I come in?" "Sure" Y/n called from inside. He opened the door and shut it behind him, giving the two of you some privacy. " what's up cap?" "I was actually wondering if we could talk about what happened earlier today?" "Oh. That." You said. " look I can guess what Bruce is thinking based on what he checked me for. He thinks I'm anorexic or something."Steve uncrossed his arms.
He was surprised that y/n was being so forward. " He did. And I just want you to know that I'm here to help you if you need it." " look, cap. I know I'm a little underweight. But I don't have an eating disorder. I have a super-high metabolism and burn calories quickly. " " so does peter, and that kids always eating something every hour it seems. I feel like you almost never do."y/n shrugged " so i’m not hungry a lot of the time. It's not that big a deal.." Steve sat on the bed next to them. " You fainted y/n, how is that not a big deal?" " because it's not the first time that it's happened?" You say scooting back on the bed to put a bit of distance in case cap decides to throw something. But he stops. He looked a bit shocked and even more worried. " what are you saying y/n?" " that this isn't the first time I went unconscious. Even since I move here."" How often do you pass out from not eating?" "Once or twice a week. maybe" Steve had to take a few breaths to calm himself down because he was starting to get a bit angry."Let me get this straight. You pass out multiple times a week and still won't admit you have an eating disorder."
" But I don't! I'm not starving myself because I want to lose weight. I'm comfortable with how I look."Steve was getting more frustrated with y/n by the minute. What he really wanted to do was turn around and leave that room and go tell Tony or Bucky or Nat. They could probably do a better job of making them see reason. Steve closed his eyes and breathed a heavy sigh. He turned and looked y/n in the eye. " I was really scared when you fainted today. I just don't want to see you hurting like this. I don't want to lose you because you starved yourself to death." He said, his voice cracked as he tried to blink away the forming tears. y/n scooted closer on the bed and wrapped their arms around Steve's chest. Burying their face on his shoulder. he rested his chin on their head, blinking the tears away. When they eventually separated, y/n wiped their teary eyes and looked in their lap. " I can't remember how long I've been dealing with this problem. When I do eat, a lot of the time my body hurts after. Sometimes so much that I have to throw up to feel better. But I promise I'm not doing this on purpose or because I'm stubborn." Cap cracked a smile " but you are stubborn." y/n punched him lightly in the shoulder. " I don't know how, but I'd be willing to try and get better. For you." Steve pressed a kiss to the top of y/n's head. "thank you"

Suicidal Misunderstanding AU Part V (SW Time Travel AU #27)
Part I - - - - -  Part II - - - - - Part III - - - - - Part IV
After a meandering walk through what felt like every path the hanging gardens and marsh pools had to offer, Obi-Wan stopped to lean against a stone wall.
“Obi-Wan? Are you ready to stop and eat something? As nice as this has been, I’m getting hungry and I’m guessing you are too.”
Anakin was only being a little sarcastic. It had genuinely been nice to peacefully spend the day with Obi-Wan like this- they hadn’t been to the marsh habitats since the war started. He had resigned himself to watching Obi-Wan enthusiastically greet every wandering knight, master, and elder who they passed.
It was actually starting to become impressive- Anakin never realized how many members of the Order his Master was friendly with- no wonder he was given a seat on the high council! But after the last heartfelt clasping of hands with a completely unfamiliar Bothan (thankfully for Anakin’s petty jealousy, Obi-Wan wasn’t hugging everyone), Anakin had asked who the knight was.
Obi Wan frowned. “No idea. But I suppose I must have seen him somewhere.”
Anakin was no longer feeling impressed.
When a group of crechelings wandered by, Obi-Wan appeared briefly overwhelmed with emotion. His shields (apparently even better drunken than sober) didn’t let anything specific slip. But he knew Obi-Wan was feeling something intensely. Bizarrely, instead of saying hello, Obi-Wan hurried out and away with Anakin dragged behind, bringing them back to the stone wall and their skipped breakfast.
“Not yet.” Obi-Wan responded hoarsely. “I want to visit the Room of A Thousand Fountains first, and say a few more goodbyes.”
“Goodbyes?” Anakin asked, a slight chill running down his back. “We’re not shipping back out until the end of the week. Do you always say goodbye to everyone this thoroughly before redeployment?”
“No. Do you think I should have?” Obi-Wan frowned. “I feel like that would have been more upsetting than anything else.”
“Ok then, why are you saying goodbye now? To the whole order?”
Obi-Wan didn’t reply, he just pushed off the wall to continue on his quest to apparently visit every corner of the temple.
“Master, please, you’re worrying me. If you won’t eat, then let me take you to the Healing Halls so they can check you over for drugs. We can visit the fountains after.”
Obi-Wan finally paused, thinking that over. “I would like to see Bant. She should be there, right?”
Bant did end up being there, and was more touched than disturbed by Obi-Wan’s sincere joy to see her. While Obi-Wan wandered the halls greeting injured Knights, she ran several tests.
“As far as I can tell, all you had last night was human-appropriate alcohol. No force-user specific drug interactions, and no traces of Spice. It’s possible there’s something I missed, but your force presence doesn’t feel off balance in the manner I specifically associate with drug-induced altered perception. Your blood sugar is a little low and you’re somewhat dehydrated, especially considering you’re in the temple, not out on a mission.”
“I’ll take care of my physical needs after I visit the Room of a Thousand Fountains. Just because a vision isn’t purely induced by the force doesn’t mean I can’t draw meaning from it. I do appreciate how you always looked out for me though, Bant. I’ve missed your fussing.” Obi-Wan smiled, clasping one of her hands in his.
Bant sighed, “If Master Yoda wasn’t off world I’d urge you to talk to him. I haven’t seen you this shaken by a vision since we were younglings. Even if you do seem to be handling it fairly... calmly.”
Obi-Wan laughed. “I’ll tell him you said that someday. I might be wrong, but I think he’ll be happy to learn about-” Obi-Wan gestured around vaguely, “all this. I’ll talk to him at some point. I’m sure of it.”
She glanced over at Anakin, who had been a quietly looming shadow the whole visit. He seemed both relieved by the diagnosis as well as bewildered. “Can I speak to you privately?”
Obi-Wan nodded and Anakin stalked out of the test room.
She scrutinized him, worry more obvious now, “Don’t think I haven’t noticed you slipping tenses this whole time. You’re still not sure where your vision ends and reality begins, are you? Do you even know when you are?”
Obi-Wan looked down. “I know what’s real and what’s not. I’m just...enjoying not fully living in the moment. I have every intention of waking up.”
“Yeah, that’s a BIG red flag, Obi-Wan. Force.” She tilted her head back and forth, examining him with obvious concern. “I am scheduling an appointment for a soul healer and you are going to go, understand?” She demanded.
Obi-Wan agreed far too easily. She reluctantly let him leave with an earnest promise to eat something real.
Obi-Wan came outside to find Anakin pacing.
“I’m glad you’re still here,” he told his former Padawan, ignoring the ache in his chest.
“Of course Ori’vod,” Anakin said, ducking his head with a shy smile. “What did Bant say?”
“She wants me to eat something real and visit a soul healer.” Obi-Wan sighed. “Well, I can do at least one of those things.”
“A soul healer! She thinks you’re crazy?” Anakin asked offended.
“First of all, you don’t have to be unstable to visit a soul healer. I’ve seen them in the past, when there wasn’t as much wrong with me. I’m sorry if I led you to believe you couldn’t seek out help for your problems.” Obi-Wan said. Another mistake.
“I-I know that. I just thought, you know, Jedi can be judgmental of that sort of thing. A good Jedi is supposed to be able to just, meditate stuff away.” Anakin said bitterly.
Obi-Wan thought furiously. Was this why he had been so blindsided by Anakin’s fall? Had his padawan been so afraid of judgement that he hid all of the warning sides of his struggles with darkness? Maybe he could ask Owen for some sort of petty assistance when he brought over bantha milk next time, to demonstrate to young Luke that it was ok to ask for help. No, he was probably still too young for those sorts of lessons to have much meaning. The insight would require meditation, when he was more sober.
Unsure how ‘Anakin’ would respond, Obi-Wan tentatively said, “You’re right, that some Jedi might judge for seeking such aid. But I think in the last years of the war, that sort of opinion became less and less common. After all, an ideal Jedi shouldn’t be leading an army. I don’t know if anyone can be perfect during war, let alone a peacekeeper.”
When that failed to garner positive or negative reply, Obi-Wan let out a breath. “It hardly matters, since I can’t exactly visit a therapist, let alone a soul healer, given my present living conditions.”
Anakin seemed to process that, giving Obi-Wan a long, searching look. “What’s your next point?”
“Hmm?”
“You said first of all, and I think that was all one thing, so what’s your second point?”
“Not exactly being able to visit a soul healer regularly doesn’t count as a separate retort?”
“I guess? I’m just trying to understand what you’re trying to tell me” A twinge of frustration crept into Anakin’s otherwise level tone.
"I appreciate that, truly, and I regret the number of hurtful miscommunications that sprung up from me failing to do just that. Well, I suppose, by most reasonable standards, I am ‘crazy.’ Getting some help with unraveling my mind would probably be best, if it were an option, but it isn’t so...” Obi-Wan shrugged.
Before any followup questions could be asked, they finally arrived at the main entrance to the Room of a Thousand Fountains. The archway was stunning, water flowing upwards along the stone in intricate, shifting tessellations. When they stepped through, Obi-Wan was delighted to see Mace Windu sitting on a bench by the entrance.
“Mace! I was hoping to see you.”
Mace looked at him. He seemed at first, to be utterly unsurprised by the duo’s arrival. But the longer he stared, the more visible shock overtook his features. “Master Koon recommended I look for you...force what happened.”
Obi-Wan just chuckled. “Oh you know. What didn’t happen.”
“What’s wrong?” Anakin asked urgently. “What do you see, Master Windu?”
Obi-Wan tried to wave them both off, laugh a little more forced. “Please, I came here to relax. I’m sure it would be easier to say what’s not wrong with-”
“Kark it, Obi-Wan this isn’t a joking matter.” Master Windu’s voice was calm, but insistent. He slowly started approaching Obi-Wan as though the fellow council member were a feral loth-cat.
“You look as if...nearly every shatter point around you has broken open. Force, I think you’ve been carrying some of these with you since you were a child. Usually when things that deep break...And some of these- some of these are too big to have just affected you.” Mace hesitantly reached forward, brushing against something invisible.
A chill ran down Anakin’s spine, again. What the kriff did Obi-Wan see in his vision? Last night he mentioned the temple burning, their rooms turned to ash, and Anakin had just...let that go in favor of greedily spending time with this addictively affectionate version of Obi-Wan.
“Mace...” Obi-Wan groaned. “I had been wondering what you might say to me but this is...please, can’t you just give me a hug and let me enjoy the peace for one more hour.”
“Master Kenobi,” Mace said, seeming to revert to an even more serious version of himself. “What I see cracked open around you is bigger than the reemergence of the Sith on Naboo, bigger than the first battle of Genosis. Whatever has happened, you cannot possibly keep it to yourself, practically or morally.”
To the shock of both Windu and Skywalker, Obi-Wan actually rolled his eyes at that. “Mace. You are not telling me anything I do not already know. And I am choosing to spend a little longer enjoying the unique joys of the Temple before dealing with the harshness of reality. Haven’t I earned a small break? I’m not abandoning my duty, but if I don’t take care of myself where I can I’ll go madder than I already have.”
At no point did Obi-Wan’s voice get whiny or upset, he just calmly dropped a series of bombshells like he was repeating an argument.
Mace and Anakin exchanged glances, but if Mace was trying to communicate something, it was utterly lost on Anakin.
“Alright, Master Kenobi. I trust your judgement.”
And, to Anakin’s shock, Mace pulled Obi-Wan for a tight hug. “And I care about you, Obi-Wan.”
For a brief, hysterical moment, Anakin Skywalker wondered if he was about to witness his Master break down crying on the shoulder of Mace Windu the Master of the Jedi Order.
But Obi-Wan just let out a slow breath and returned the embrace before bowing deeply in Respect. Windu returned the bow with a placid expression.
“If you’ll excuse me...I think I’d like to stand by the waterfall alone for a moment.” He paused, turning to address Anakin. “If you’re willing to wait for me, I’ll happily rejoin you by the glowing mushrooms.” Anakin nodded silently and Obi-Wan beamed before leaving the two alone together.
Mace turned to the young knight in a silent demand for answers, and, for once, Anakin was eager to share what he was dealing with. “He came back drunk last night, talking about the temple burning down, and being well-”
“Unusually emotionally expressive?” Mace offered.
Anakin nodded. “Took a blood sample to analyze in the morning. He woke determined to hug every sentient being in the temple. I actually managed to get him to the halls just before we came here; Master Eerin said there was nothing in his system and...I just don’t know. He’s been off today, but not in a bad way, exactly. Could a vision have caused the shattering you saw?
Mace furrowed his brow. “Not any vision like I’ve ever seen but...these are dark times. And Master Kenobi has had historically bad luck. If some new cataclysm is coming for us- I absolutely believe he’d be the first of us to stumble into it. Something terrible and extraordinary must have happened in the 24 hours since I last saw him in person.”
A beat passed.
“I should go to the mushrooms before I lose track of him,” Anakin said quietly.
Mace nodded. “Skywalker, if you need assistance dragging him back to the healers for whatever reason, comm me, understood?”
“Understood. Master Koon said the same.” the Knight replied, heart pounding.
The Windu clasped him on the shoulder firmly, "I’m going to check in with Master Eerin. It’s possible she has some suspicions that my observations will help her confirm. Until then...”
“I’ll look out for him.” Anakin promised.

Everything’s A Mess (Ch 5)
A/N: Let me know what you’d like to see included in this story!
A few hours had passed.
Amelia had been admitted into her own room for monitoring since she was showing signs of dehydration, in addition to the kidney infection. They had started her on IV antibiotics and fluids after confirming her diagnosis.
Link was sat in the chair beside her bed, having not left her side the whole time. He’d barely said a word but, he hadn't left her side.
Amelia had spent the better part of the last two hours sleeping, now that her pain was beginning to subside. She also knew Link would want to talk about the pregnancy if she was awake but, she just needed a minute to process her new thoughts and feelings.
Unfortunately, her nap came to an end when Carina walked through the door, ultrasound machine in tow.
“Sorry, I can come back if you want?” she asked quietly, realising she’d just woken the neurosurgeon up, “No, you’re fine.”
Carina moved to the side of Amelia’s bed, offering her a smile, “I just wanted to do a more in depth ultrasound, if that’s okay?”. Amelia nods reluctantly, making sure to not look in Link’s direction as she carefully rolls the hospital gown up to expose her pale stomach.
Amelia shivers as Carina squeezes the cold gel onto her skin and places the probe over it. The OB’s attention turns to the screen as she moves the instrument around Amelia’s stomach, causing her to wince as Carina presses the probe into a tender spot.
“Okay so, it seems like you’re about 11 weeks and 3 days pregnant.” Carina smiles, “Fetal development looks good and right where it should be for this point.”
She presses a key on the monitor and the sound of a heartbeat fills the previously silent room. Amelia senses Link’s eyes on her but, keeps her focus on the screen as a familiar feeling rises in her chest and her vision blurs a little.
“Heartbeat sounds good, too.” Carina announces, removing the probe from Amelia’s stomach and gently wiping the gel from it. Amelia quickly rolls the hospital gown back down and watches as Carina places a ultrasound print down on the table next to her before leaving the room with a smile.
The room descends into silence once again. Amelia lays her head back into the pillow, her hands interlocked over her stomach as she tries to not let her emotions and hormones overtake her. She heard Link’s breath change and she knew what was coming.
“So.” he starts, breaking the silence, “Are we going to talk about this or keep avoiding it forever?”
Amelia rolls her eyes and reluctantly tilts her head to look at him, waiting for him to continue but, he doesn't, not right away. Another minute passes before the silence is broken again.
“Are you keeping it?” Link asks, pretty bluntly as if he’s been waiting to ask it all night. Amelia doesn't say anything, a little stunned by the sudden question.
“Amelia?” he speaks again, trying to pull her attention back, “Are you keeping the pregnancy?”
“Link I-”
“So, that’s a no then?” he asks, leaning forward in his chair.
Amelia sighs heavily, pressing the button to sit the hospital bed up slightly before looking at him once more, ready to get this conversation over with, “When I found out, I immediately knew I couldn't keep it. I just didn't think I had it in me to bring another child into this world. So, I made an appointment and I was gonna tell you before it.” Amelia starts. Links eyebrows raise and his mouth opens ready to speak, “But, then uhm, last night; I was cuddling in bed with Scout before bedtime, he’d been really clingy the last couple days and he was snuggled into me. He suddenly starting talking about having a baby. It threw me off because, obviously, I hadn't told him but it was almost like he knew? Which sounds crazy but apparently, kids can sense that kind of stuff... Anyway, I saw the look on his face and it was just pure joy. It did make me think and I wasn't so sure about my decision anymore.”
“Then when I woke up to all that pain in my stomach and my immediate thought was that I was-” Amelia sniffles, the overwhelming hormones beginning to get to her, “I thought that I was losing the baby and suddenly, I wasn't the one making the decision anymore. It felt out of my control and it scared me, a lot. Once I knew I wasn't miscarrying... All I've been able to think about for the last few hours is almost having that decision taken away from me and now, I think- I think I might want to do this.”
Amelia scans Link’s face, waiting for some kind of reaction but can't seem to read his expression.
“I know it’s going to be hard but, there's enough support around me that I think I can do this.” she wipes a stray tear from her cheek, running her other hand across her stomach instinctively.
Link gives her a small smile, pulling his chair closer to the side of the bed, “Amelia, you know I'm going to be right here. Whatever I can do to help, I’ll do it. We can do this, together.”
Amelia looks back at him as he reaches across to take hold of her free hand before continuing, “We can work through this. I know I messed up when I stopped checking in while you were going through something, I’m sorry I wasn't giving you the support you needed. I can be better. I want us to work through this.”
Amelia looks down at their hands and sighs, slowly pulling hers back and placing it on top of her other. She swallows hard, looking back at him as his face drops, “You don't need to do that, Link.”
Link gives her a questioning look, unsure what she was trying to say.
“I don't want you to come back to me just because I’m pregnant. You left for a reason. You left because we didn't want the same things. I still don't want to get married, that hasn't changed. If we’re going to work, I want us to work because we want to be together not because I’m pregnant and you think it’s the right thing to do.”
“Amelia, that’s not-” Link defends quickly before Amelia cuts him off.
“It’s just... I know you’ve always said that you wouldn't want to put your kid through what you went through with your parents so, right now in the back of my mind, I can't help but consider that you only want to try because...” Amelia’s voice trails off as she sees the look on Link’s face, “I’m only bringing it up because last time; you were the one holding my hair back while I was throwing up everyday, you were the one experiencing the first kicks with me, you were the one I got to share all the excitement with and then just like that, you weren't sure if you wanted to be with me anymore if the baby hadn't been yours. So, I can't help but be a little wary, Link and I’m sorry if that upsets you but I’m just trying to protect myself.”
Amelia watches as Link looks down at his hands, fiddling with his fingers and bites her lip, feeling a little bad.
“I mean, come on; hasn't the thought ever crossed your mind?” Amelia looks down at her hands where they rest on her stomach, “Would we have even continued a relationship if I hadn't gotten pregnant with Scout?”
“Yes, Amelia.” Link says without a second of thought, “Because I fell in love with you long before we knew you were pregnant. I wanted you. Baby or no baby.”.
The room falls into silence once again. They both keep their eyes focused on their own hands, secretly willing the other to say something. Amelia sighs, “Look, I know I hurt you and I am sorry. But, right now I need to focus on staying sober and healthy. I need to focus on myself and Scout and this baby. So, I don't want to rush into anything. I think we just need to take everyday as it comes and work on things slowly.”
Link clears his throat, looking up and giving her a weak smile, “If that’s what you want.”
With that, the room descends into silence once more.

𝐆𝐎𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐂𝐑𝐀𝐙𝐘 — 9
Tumblr media
pairing: taeyong x doyoung x reader
warnings:「dotae x reader, polyamorous relationship, suggestive talk, fainting, use of chloroform, language 」
word count: 「 2,5k 」
As soon as you get home, you go to the drawer that is next to your bed and check your birth control pill case. You haven't missed a single one. You sigh in relief and put it back inside.
Stupid Jaehyun and his stupid guessings.
There was a moment where you got terrified because you don't know how they would react. But then you realise none of them wouldn't care who the actual father is.
You shake your head.
Pregnancy and babies is something you haven't discussed yet, and to be honest you do feel ready for that conversation even though you get freaked out.
You go downstairs to make something for dinner since Doyoung and Taeyong will be home any minute.
(...)
Doyoung leaves the office hours before Taeyong, and he’s so tired. He just wants to get home and have some sleep.
Walking to his car in the underground parking lot, he sees someone leaning against his grey BMW. He can't tell who it is. Taeyong finishes his way until he's standing in front of his car and tilts his head to the side.
“What a surprise, Jakcson,” he fakes a smile.
Jackson smiles, playing with the ring on his index finger. “I’m the last person you’d like to see, aren't I?”
“What do you mean?”
“I know y/n talked to you,” he rests his elbow on the roof of the car. “That I’m some kind of a monster.”
Taeyong squints his eyes, looking at him. “Then what are you doing here?”
“I’m here to clear my name,” Jackson glances at him. “To tell you everything she said it’s not true.”
Taeyong snorts. “So she beated herself up?”
Jackson sighs. “I do accept doing that, but she deserved it.”
“Get off my car, Jackson,” Taeyong looks at him. “I have nothing to listen to.”
“She tried to ruin me, I just defended myself,” Jackson explains.
“You almost killed her, that’s how you’re excusing yourself?” Taeyong cocks an eyebrow.
“I might have gotten a bit far, I admit it,” Jackson rubs his chin. “But this is what she does, she manipulates people and lets them think she’s decent and nice.”
Taeyong raises his hand to stop him from talking but Jackson continues. “Just look at you. You’re her muppet.”
“You don't even know what's our relationship like.”
Jackson scoffs, shaking his head. “You don't mean a thing to her. She loves Doyoung and any day now, you’ll be out and she’ll be taking Doyoung with her. Don't you see it?”
Taeyong furrows his eyebrows. “Their relationship is stronger than yours with her, she prefers him over you. She’s just using you because you're richer.”
“Get off my car, I won't repeat it again.” Taeyong warns.
Jackson leans backwards, fixing his jacket. “I’m just trying to help you.”
“Yeah? And what do you want me to do, Jackson?” Taeyong stares at him. “Smash her face against the wall? Throw her out of a window? I’m not an animal like you. If she wants me out, she’ll let me know and I’ll go.”
Jackson laughs. “Well, now that you say it, the second option doesn't sound bad. And please, don't say I didn't try to warn you, dude.”
Jackson turns on his feet ready to leave, when Taeyong speaks. “You may have gotten away with it once, but not again, Jackson.”
Jackson turns to face him and smirks. “And what are you going to do? Kill me? Woah, I’m so scared.” He mocks him.
Taeyong grins sideways. “You don't me at all, Jackson. So don't say I didn't try to warn you, dude.”
Doyoung slams his hands on the desk, panting angrily. “What the fuck does he thinks he is?” He stares at Taeyong.
“Some kind of a God,” Taeyong replies, walking around the office in the penthouse.
“I can’t wait any longer,” Doyoung stands straight. “I’m gonna call Ten, change of plans.” He says, pulling out his phone from his jeans pocket.
“Wait,” Taeyong walks to him. “I want to be there. I want him to suffer everything she did and I’m gonna be beating the shit out of him.”
Doyoung stares at him. “No.”
“Why not?” Taeyong frowns.
“You wont get your hands dirty,” he shakes his head.
“It wouldn't be the first time,” Taeyong says.
“I know,” Doyoung rubs his forehead. “Are you sure?”
“One hundred percent,” Taeyong answers surely.
Doyoung nods and dials Ten’s number. “Can we meet tomorrow night?”
(...)
“Ah shit,” you whisper, shutting your eyes close and holding onto the edge of the bathroom counter.
Another dizziness.
You inhale and exhale slowly a couple of times, until your vision returns to normal. Doyoung and Taeyong are inside the walking closet, getting ready to go to work.
You stand back up and pick up your toothbrush, look in the mirror and frown as you realize you look a little pale.  You think you might get sick or you already got sick.
You sigh and start brushing your teeth. When you’re done, you dry your mouth with a soft white towel and walk to the walking closet where Taeyong is putting his shoes on and Doyoung is picking a tie.
“The black dot one would look nice,” you comment as you open one of your drawers.
“I was thinking the same,” Doyoung says and looks at you. He knits his eyebrows together. “Are you okay?”
Taeyong lifts his head out of his shoes and looks at you. You don't look okay.
You nod. “Yes, don't worry.”
“You look… awful,” Taeyong says, standing up.
You chuckle, almost unwillingly. “Off to start a great day, Tae.”
“No, he’s right,” Doyoung walks to you and cups your face in his hands. “Do you feel sick, y/n? Tell me what’s wrong, love.”
You rest your hands on his and shake your head. You look at Taeyong. “I’m fine, I’m just feeling a bit dizzy. That 's it.”
“Dizzy?” Taeyong repeats. “You didn't have dinner yesterday and we haven't had breakfast. Maybe is that?.”
You nod. “I’ll eat something in the office.”
Doyoung shakes his head. “We’re having breakfast here.”
“But I’m gonna be late,” you look at him.
“I dont care.”
Your eyes go back to Doyoung and have to squint your eyes to see him better, you’re dizzy again. Your body suddenly feels so heavy and your legs turn into jello. You lose balance and if it wasn’t for Doyoung, you would have hit your head with the edge of the counter.
“y/n!” Doyoung yells.
And the rest is a blur.
You wake up, eyes bleary, and immediately  you’re oddly and incredibly comfortable. “What happened?” You ask.
“You fainted, straight in my arms,” a voice directly above you says.
You look up to find Taeyong staring at you, and realize it’s Doyoung you’re resting against, his arms are around you.
“Sorry,” you say, trying to push yourself up.
“Woah there,” Doyoung scolds. “You just passed out, y/n. Give yourself a few minutes, okay?”
“Doctor’s on his way,” Taeyong informs. “We should put her on the bed so she can rest.”
“I’m fine,” you say. “I just… I’m so late for work.”
“I called Donghyuck, you’re staying here, y/n.” Doyoung says.
You sigh and Taeyong helps you to stand up. He takes you in his arms in bridal style, taking you to the bed. He places you there and kisses your forehead. “I’m gonna get you something to eat, okay?”
You nod. “Thanks.”
Taeyong and Doyoung go downstairs, and as Taeyong makes something for you, Doyoung opens the door to the doctor they called. He takes him upstairs where you’re laying in the bed and Doyoung sits next to you.
The doctor checks you and after he’s done, he takes his glasses off. “I can tell you’re a bit dehydrated so please consume liquids during the day,” he writes on his small notebook.
“And what about the dizziness and the faint?” Doyoung asks.
“Have you presented any nausea, weird cravings or any of that?” The doctor looks at you.
You shake your head. “Just dizziness.”
“Do you think she’s pregnant?” Doyoung inquiries.
Your eyes wide open. “Not really. Are you on the pill?”
You nod. “I recently changed to a new one.”
The doctor rubs his chin. “May I see them?”
“Sure,” you reply and open the drawer where you keep your pills. You hand them to the doctor and he nods.
“Microgestin. Dizziness can be a side effect of the drug and that it can worsen with the use of alcohol,” he explains. “Have you been drinking?”
You press your lips together. “I’ve had a few glasses of wine during the weeks.”
“You should call your OB-GYN so they can give you a new anticonceptive,”  he recommends. “But I recommend you to stop taking these if you want to stop feeling dizzy.”
You sigh and nod. “Alright. Thank you, Dr.”
By noon, you're still lying in bed. Doyoung and Taeyong refused to let you out of it with the excuse that you had to keep resting.
In between the two, you let out a sigh of boredom and lean your back against the headboard. Taeyong is taking a peaceful nap while Doyoung only has his eyes shut.
“Doyoung?” you say, almost whispering.
He hums in response without opening his eyes. “I’m bored.”
He slightly laughs. “You still need to rest.”
“Can I suck you off?” You ask.
He turns his face to you. “Are you horny?”
“I’m just bored.”
“And you want to suck me off because you’re bored?”
“Yeah.”
Doyoung chuckles. “No.”
“Why not?” You groan.
“Because I will want more and I don’t want to pull out, love.” He smiles at you.
You roll your eyes. “You won’t get me pregnant if you fuck me today.”
“Still, no.” He grins.
“Weak,” you hum.
Doyoung cocks an eyebrow at you. “Excuse me?”
You grin. “Doyoung, the weakest man in this building.”
“I’m gonna make you regret that,” he says and then he’s on top of you, kissing your neck.
You smile and tilt your head so he can have better access to your neck. Your eyes dart to the alarm clock on the nightstand. It 's almost 4 pm. You promised you’d go with Jaehyun and meet their baby.
You push Doyoung away from you and stand up from the bed. He frowns. “Hey, I was doing my thing.”
“I know, but I have to be somewhere. Wake Taeyong up while I change.”
“Where are you going?” Doyoung looks at you.
“Jaehyun and Johnny’s baby will arrive today,” you smile. “I promised I’ll be there.”
“Oh,” Doyoung smirks. “Okay, I’ll wake up Taeyong.”
(...)
“Can I…? I mean, like, can I…” You make a gesture with your hands.
Johnny holds out a hand, chuckling slightly. He steps aside and you see Jaehyun holding their baby girl cradling against his chest. Jaehyun extends her arms, and the baby towards you. You quickly reach out your own arms, gently positioning her head in the crook of your elbow, your other arm carefully supporting her back and legs. Doyoung straightens up, standing behind you, wrapping his arms around yours. He presses his smile into your right shoulder, staring in awe down at the baby. "She's so pretty, guys," you whisper, gently brushing her rosy cheeks with your thumb.
Taeyong approaches and grins looking at the baby. "Hi baby."
“Have you guys picked a name yet?” Doyoung asks.
Johnny nods. “Aera, because it means love to us.”
“It’s beautiful,” you say, smiling. “Oh, my God. She smells so good.”
“Right? I love babies’ scent,” Jaehyun grins.
“Do you want to hold her?” You ask Doyoung.
He nods and you carefully place the baby on his arms. Doyoung smirks and rubs her nose gently. “Hi, Aera. You’re so beautiful.”
Your heart instantly melts at the scene. This is the first time seeing Doyoung holding a baby and you can’t help yourself from thinking how beautiful having a baby with him would be.
Taeyong places his hands on your shoulders and gives you a peck on your left cheek, almost as if he knows what you’re thinking. “Is it time for the talk?” He whispers against your ear.
You nod and Taeyong wraps his arms around your shoulders.
You smile when Taeyong now holds the baby. You have seen that scene many times since his nephews were born. He loves kids and he has been honest about wanting them.
On your way back home, the ride is quiet. Doyoung is driving, you’re on the passenger seat while Taeyong is in the back. Doyoung knows where the silence comes from and he rests his right hand on your tight and squeezes it. You sigh and decide to break the silence. “I want 2, maybe 3.”
Doyoung stops the car in a red light and turns his face to you. “But I don’t want their age gaps to be too big like my brother and I.” You continue, “I was 10 years old when he was born and it’s nice being the older sister but I wish I could’ve spent more time with him.”
Doyoung only nods and his face returns to the front when the light changes to green.
Did I just fucked up?
Does he not want kids?
Taeyong is the next one to speak. “2 is a good amount. My sister and I got along just fine.”
You force a smile. “She’s the nicest, I adore her.”
(...)
For the following days, Doyoung behaves strangely and even a bit distant. He barely spends any time at home with the excuse that he has a lot of work to do and Taeyong knows this is a lie.
Taeyong knows that the idea of being a father terrifies Doyoung, he would love to be one someday, but it terrifies him and he doesn't know how to tell you. But he knows he will end up telling you, he just needs time.
You, on the other hand, think you've messed things up with him. Maybe he doesn't want kids and you rushed to say what you wanted without knowing what he thinks first.
You are panicking.
You don't want to lose him, but you can't push aside what you want either.
One night, Doyoung texts you that he's going to be late.
Again.
Taeyong is home and has bought your favorite food for dinner. You call him and tell him you'll be there in a few minutes.
You grab your things and turn off the light in your office on your way out. You walk to the elevator and press the button for the subway parking. The elevator doors finally open and you step out of the elevator, reaching into your purse for your car keys as you walk to your car.
As you are about to open your car door, you feel someone stand behind you and place a handkerchief at the level of your nose and grab you firmly by the waist. You tussle  with the person, trying to get away from them. The smell of the handkerchief is similar to the odor of disinfectants, similar to the aroma you detect in hospitals and medical facilities. You suddenly feel dizzy and before passing out, you can see Jackson’s reflexion on your window car.

The Stone’s Toll - Chapter One
Tumblr media
Read on AO3
“Miss?” The young man lightly nudged the unconscious woman’s shoulder before him.
Claire felt the tickle of his breath on her cheek, checking for signs of life. Cool slender fingers pressed into her neck and a sigh of relief escaped his chest when the blood pounded through her veins. Her body jostled in the arms of the stranger. He adjusted himself under her shoulders to give more support to her neck before placing a firm backpack under her in his stead.
Darkness wrapped itself around Claire’s body like a vise. The echoes of forlorn and tormented screams lingered in her mind. Her body reeled from the recent trip, seeking peace amongst the waves of unconsciousness. She groaned as the burning pain in her back increased in its appetite for more flesh.
“Dinnae fash miss, I’m going to fetch ye some help. My name is Graham, Graham Munro. I’ll be right back.”
The slick grass grabbed at the man's heels, and his face burned red as he caught himself stumbling down the hillside, almost diving straight first into the dewy grass. Graham slowed his pace to allow his shoes a proper grip on the uneven hill, but broke out into a sprint as the smooth road below met him. He had hiked from Inverness that morning, so had no reliable means of transportation nearby. Graham hoped he could gather the attention of a car driving down the road, one specifically with an occupant strong enough to help him carry the woman at the foot of the stones.
Claire’s body was racked with a wave of nausea and she turned her head to the side to relieve herself of the bile within her throat. Her head split in two from the pressure within. She leaned back against the backpack under her neck and let her eyes close. She pushed back the pain, both in her heart and her body, and focused on flashes of red and blue and a lingering sensation on her lips. Claire reached up to touch her lips, but her arm didn’t allow the movement. She grimaced as the pain that started in her back inched its way towards the front of her body. Her hand rested on top where her child was but it elicited a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach, not one of reassurance. She slowly and carefully brushed her fingertips along the outline of her womb, tears springing forth and she tightened her eyes in response.
She wanted to scream, to rage and curse the stones in front of her, but she barely had energy to open her eyes as it was. She wanted to grab Jamie’s head between her hands and vent her frustrations at the Scottish brute, more importantly she wanted him to wrap his arms around her and make her feel safe, but his presence and scent had since faded away in the wind. It felt like eternity between the moments she reluctantly touched the stones and had woken to a stranger’s touch.
After flailing his arms for what seemed like a quarter of an hour and feeling like an idiot during the entirety of the process, Graham finally spotted a streak of shiny black as a car rounded the corner. He started waving his arms vigorously as the car grew larger and larger in view. It slowed to a stop and shuddered as the engine turned off. A man with spectacles pressed tightly against his nose and woman with smile lines sat in the front seats, puzzled expressions at Graham’s appearance at the side of the road.
“Do you need help sir?” An American accent bled through the older man’s voice.
“Aye, there’s a lass at the foot of the stones up on that hill.” Graham squinted his eyes in the sun’s light and pointed, as the words raced out of his mouth with urgency. “I dinnae think she’s hurt terribly but I found her unconscious, thinking she was dead. I couldnae carry her myself and didn’t think it would amount to much wi’ out a car. Will ye help get her to the city?”
“Of course.” The man offered a tight lipped smile. “My wife and I were just going back to our hotel in Inverness.”
The door swung open and he gripped the sides of the car to steady his descent from the car. He limped slightly, a gift from a war king past, but kept pace with the young sprightly man before him.
“Be careful darling.” She offered her husband a small smile and crinkled her eyes.
His wife’s own condition was no better than his, with her hands twisted from the effects of arthritis, and she did not want to hinder their haste towards their destination.
The two men took their journey to the stones in stride, being careful not to slip up on the grass below them. The older man was steady in his ascent, while Graham rushed up in short bursts towards the hilltop, debating between waiting in pace with the older man and getting to the top as soon as he could. The older man made a gesture for him to go on and the confirmation made Graham rush the final stretch up towards the top.
“Miss?” Graham tried to rouse her again by shaking her shoulders.
Claire grumbled out an incoherent murmur in response. He pressed the back of his hand to her forehead and cheeks feeling a warm flush in her skin, but not enough yet to worry him.
Claire forced her mouth to move but it was hard to place the word. She reached weak arms up to grab the collar of his shirt and trembled to pull on it.
“What- what’s the year?” Her voice croaked.
“Dinnae owerwork yerself miss. My name is Graham Munro and yer gonna be just fine. We’ll take you to the hospital ”
“What’s the goddamn year.” The words were weak on her mouth, almost a whisper, and didn’t create the forceful emphasis Claire desired.
“Why it’s the 17th of April, 1948, what else could it be?” It was a day after the fateful battle, the one that took- no she wouldn’t think about that just yet. It had taken her that long to stir awake.
“Who won?” Claire could clearly see the man in front of her now that her eyes and mind adjusted to the reality before her.
He could be no older than sixteen, with a lanky build and a pockmarked face. His eyes somehow sparkled with the naivety of youth, not yet showing the horrors of the world reflected in their depths. Blond strands obscured his forehead and slivers of his eyes.
“Pardon me?”
Claire set her voice with all the conviction and authority she could muster and shook the collar that was painfully gripped between her hands. “Who won the Battle of Culloden?”
Silence entered the space between the two and Graham tried to hide his baffled expression.
“Did my history teacher send ye all the way out here to chastise me?” He chuckled but the humour faded from his voice as he looked at her grim face.”Well, the English of course.”
Her body fell limp at the words and she crumpled harder into herself. She clutched her arms right around stomach and let the sobs ricochet off of the stones for the world to hear her grief. Hot tears sprang forth and her head hurt even more from the strain of her lamentation. She barely felt the four hands lifting her up as she let sleep win, not able to deal with any of it. The swaying rhythm of their walking gaits lulled her into peace.
***
“Mrs. Randall.” Her body shuddered at the name.
She looked away from the doctor with unshed tears. Her eyes wandered down to the street below. So many sights of joyous families as they strolled along the pavement. She quickly whipped her head away from the sight of a man reaching into a pram before him to pick up the newborn inside of it. He threw her up in the air in his arms and beamed, pecking his wife and daughter with a quick kiss on the kiss each.
The stones had ripped away her husband, her heart, her family, her life. What more could they have taken from her to make their existence only a harbinger of pain and death? She knew. Somehow she knew. It didn’t feel right after she went through, not that anything could anymore. She subconsciously clutched the flat area of her stomach.
“Mrs. Randall it appears that ye’ve suffered a miscarriage. It’s likely the stress of recent events, the dehydration, malnourishment, and burns considered, that…” His voice nulled out as background noise in her mind.
Of course the bloody stones wouldn’t allow safe passage to the both of them. It was a foolish notion. They didn’t even know if the baby could go through the stones when they crested the hill and canons sounded far away on the battlefield. She barely even knew how the stones actually worked. Perhaps they required payment, and they saw fit to take whatever they could from her, the only thing she still had. Her baby’s voice would join the agonising chorus within the stones. She should never have been so foolish. The baby was the last piece of Jamie she had and she lost it, just like Faith. She failed. She failed Jamie. She failed both her children. She failed. She wasn’t strong enough to fight it off.
Her mind seemed to go on autopilot as the hours passed until Frank’s arrival. She originally refused his visit but the doctor insisted, multiple times. She didn’t let herself think of anything besides the rush of cars from the window, their honks, incomprehensible speech, the blurring melodies of the radio, and the squeak of the nurse’s shoes. She hated the bloody noise but it was what kept everything away and her completely falling apart again.
She caught sight of a reflection in the window that made her heart race violently. She gripped the sheets at her sides and tried to calm herself. She tried to look for any difference in Frank’s face from his ancestor’s that could calm her. He slowly approached her side and stopped a good distance from her bed.
“Claire.”
“Frank.” Claire pushed back the venom in her voice, leaving it with a neutral taste.
“I’m back.”
“And I am so grateful.”
“Are you?”
“Of course. With all my heart.”
He reached out his hand towards her arm for comfort, connection perhaps. She flinched and flashes of the deep evil crossed the forefront of her mind.
“Sorry.” Though Frank didn’t know why he was apologising for trying to comfort his wife.
She couldn’t bring herself to smile at him. Or to look into his eyes. His words mushed together into a watercolour of grey, one that Claire didn’t much care for. The only words Claire could seem to retain was something about the reverend.

do you have a fic where remus confronts Sirius of believing he was the spy (like maybe canon divergence - they all live) and refuses to agree that just because there was a war doesn’t mean he should’ve not trusted him or used the excuse that he’s a werewolf not to believe him
Hi!
I have fics that deal with the suspicions and false accusations during the war! But these do take on a more Fluffy path, and eventually lead to them being understanding and forgiving of each other's behaviour😅
You might like the confrontation in
If Tomorrow the World Crumbles
“Well, what am I supposed to bloody think, then?” Sirius shouted back. “You’re obviously keeping things from me! How is this sketchy behaviour going to make anything better? Why couldn’t you just come talk to me, so you could have proven that you’re not-”
“Because I shouldn’t have to proof anything to you!” A hint of pain was seeping through in Remus’s frustration. “All my life I’ve had to proof myself to everyone, and all my life I’ll have to continue proving myself, simply because of what I am, but not to you. Never to you. You’re supposed to believe in me! You’re the one person who’s supposed to be on my side.”
And here's an excerpt from my longer fic
If Only You Knew the Whole Story
He’s sitting in a chair. His arms are handcuffed behind his back and his ankles are chained to the legs of the chair. Protective spells are placed around him, making it impossible to come any closer than half a meter in his vicinity, though there isn’t much he could even do without his wand. His long, dark hair is tied in a messy bun with loose strands falling over his face, and he still has the muggle clothes on he was wearing when he got arrested.
He’d been wearing muggle clothes a lot. When James teased him about it, he told him to go try and ride a motorbike in flapping wizarding robes and then come talk to him. No one particularly minded seeing him in tight fitted muggle clothes anyway, as the man has always been unfairly good-looking.
He looks up as Emmeline enters the room, his grey eyes empty and emotionless.
Sirius Black.
“I didn’t think you’d come back. You seemed rather pissed off when you left the last time.”
“I’m pissed off at you by default. But I did some fact-checking on your previous claims.”
Black rolls his eyes. “If you looked him up in the Animagus register, I could have told you-”
“Actually, I went to a more direct source.”
“Hello, Black.” Remus steps in the room, his eyes focused somewhere on the logo on Black’s worn-out band shirt, deliberately not meeting Black’s eyes, his mask of indifference firmly in place. Emmeline understands his need to not show any emotion in front of Black.
Black’s face, on the other hand, is a whole different story. It’s hard to imagine his eyes were so void of emotion just a moment ago, as a variety of emotions passes over his face.
Disbelief. Hope. Fear. Guilt. Pain.
When he speak, soft and barely audible, his voice sounds so broken that it sends a shock through Emmeline’s body. She can tell Remus feels the same, as his eyes snap up to Black’s face.
“Remus? Please...”
“I messed up, Remus. I messed up so bad. But if only you knew the whole story-”
“You’re going to tell me the whole story,” Remus interrupts, his voice cold and bitter. “The real story.” He opens his palm to reveal the small flask of Veritaserum.
Now, Emmeline was expecting anger. Anger as Black would realise he wouldn’t be able to make up stories anymore. Anger as he saw his plans of manipulating Remus with his lies go up in smoke. Emmeline may have understood shock, that they would actually dare to force him to take the truth potion, or maybe even panic, now that his ploy is officially over.
What Emmeline did not expect, however, was the look of sheer hope on Black’s face, like he’s a dehydrated man who has been wandering the dessert for days and Remus is holding a glass of fresh, cold water.
“Yes,” he says pleading. “Yes, please...”
It completely catches Emmeline off guard, and she can tell Remus is also thrown off. He stares at Black dumbfounded and seems unsure what to do next. He fumbles with the flask, opening it and sliding it across the table towards Black.
As they can’t get near Black with the protective charms surrounding him, Emmeline doesn’t know what they would have done of he had simply refused to drink the potion, but then again, that would have said enough of itself, wouldn’t it? Now, however, Black wastes no time in bending forward, taking the flask between his lips and throwing his head back, gulping the potion down.
After Black has dropped the empty bottle back on the table, he sits motionless in his chair, his eyes closed. Remus is staring at him intently, his mouth in a hard line and his knuckles turning white where he’s gripping the edge of the table. The moment can’t have lasted more than a few minutes, but it feels like an eternity. Despite all her talk about only doing this for Remus, not believing anything will come of it, Emmeline feels nerves coursing through her body. There’s a heavy tension hanging in the room and the air feels thick. Emmeline can only imagine what this moment must be like for Remus.
After what seems like hours, Black slowly opens his eyes. “It wasn’t me.”
So few words hardly more than a whisper, but their impact couldn’t have been greater if he had shouted them in their faces.
Remus’s legs threaten to give out from under him and he supports himself on the table, staring at the wood while gasping for air.
“It wasn’t me, it wasn’t me, it wasn’t me.” Black repeats the words like a mantra.
Remus lifts his head, and upon seeing the pain, hope and confusion on his face, Emmeline wants to run to him, support him and start questioning Black, but at the same time she feels like she needs to stay out of it for now, this needs to be between them.
“What wasn’t you?” Remus breathes. “I need to hear you say it.”
“Everything. Any of it. The murders, the betrayal. Rem, I wasn’t even the Secret-Keeper!”
“But... But...” Remus tries desperately to order his thoughts. “Peter?”
Black nods silently.
Remus shakes his head. “No, no. James insisted! He would never choose anyone but you!”
“No, he wouldn’t.” Black replies as he shifts his gaze downwards, sadness reflecting in his eyes. “Not until I convinced him to. Merlin, I thought I was so clever! A perfect way to throw them off track. Who would even consider it being anyone else?”
“But you told me it was you! Those evenings we spent talking about it...”
“I lied! I lied to you, Remus.”
Remus stares at him for a while. “You didn’t trust me.” It’s not a question.
“We knew there was a spy,” Black says, looking absolutely miserable. “We just didn’t know who.”
“And I was the logical choice,” Remus states. “I assume because I’m a dark creature?”
“Yes. It was because you’re a werewolf.” Black looks Remus straight in the eyes. “Because you have fifteen years of experience keeping secrets and hiding who you are. And you’re so damned good at it! Better than anyone I know. Dumbledore always chose you for the most secret missions. You were the only one amongst us no one had any idea of where they were going or what they were doing.”
“That wasn’t by choice!”
“I know, I know. Remus, you have to understand. We didn’t think you were the traitor, we just couldn’t be absolutely sure that you weren’t the traitor.”
Remus swallows and looks away. “What’s the difference?”
“The difference is that I felt with every fibre of my being that I could trust you and you would never hurt us!” Black speaks. “But at that time, I couldn’t allow myself to feel, I had to think. And logical thinking, shutting off all emotion, said that none of us could say with one hundred percent certainty that it wasn’t you. With Harry’s life at stake, we couldn’t afford to take any chances. It was best not to tell.”
Remus nods, but he’s still not meeting Black’s gaze.
“Remus, please look at me,” Black says earnest. “I need you to know this. We still would have died for you in a heartbeat, Lily, James and me. We still thought the world of you.”
“But I thought the worst of you!” Remus’s breath hitches. “I despised you, wanted to hate you! If I had found you that night, I would have...”
He doesn’t finish his sentence, doesn’t need to.
Black doesn’t look shocked, or even angry. He just looks immensely sad.
“Why wouldn’t you have? I fucked everything up, Remus. I lied to you, I trusted the wrong people, I distrusted the wrong people, I convinced James to take a path that lead straight to his death. And I can’t even do the only thing James asked me to do in case the worst would happen! I can’t even take care of Harry, like I promised I would. I abandoned him in my failed attempt at revenge, another one of my numerous mistakes. I literally can’t think of a single thing I haven’t screwed up these last weeks.”
Remus just stares at him. Only after a long silence, he speaks.
“You really are... you.”
Black just blinks at him.
“I mean, the boy who snuck out of the dorm to keep me company in the hospital wing, the boy who bribed the house elves to make my favourite chocolate cake on my birthday, the man who wanted me to stay with him when I had no place to live and never let me go, the man who once attacked five Death Eaters on his own because one of them had tried to use the Cruciatus curse on me... That person was not a facade, an act or a lie. That person was really you. You’re really that person.”
“Telling you I was the Secret-Keeper was hard for me, as it was the first and only time I ever lied to you, I promise.”
“I know,” Remus slides down in the chair across from Black. “And it’s okay, Sirius. It’s okay.”
Sirius closes his eyes for a moment. As he opens them again to look at Remus, they’re filled with relief.
“I’m sorry,” he whispers. “It’s just... You’re the only person who I couldn’t bear to see me as a monster.”
Remus smiles softly. “Yeah, I know that feeling.”
I hope you still like it, though it might not be exactly what you're looking for!

Truthfully, Harry isn’t sure what time it is, this time around. Clocks seem to evade him, and numbers seem to dance into intricate formations that he can’t seemingly understand.
Harry Styles stops time when he walks into the room. Caroline always says that it’s the commanding presence, the nature of his personality, the way he holds everyone’s attention so easily that makes him stop an entire room and gain their attention. Caroline always says that Harry is the type to make everyone know they’re important and needed in the space, that there isn’t one person that would be in the group or the audience or the meeting that wouldn’t feel like they’re an essential part of whatever is happening.
Caroline always says that Harry makes her feel that way.
Harry makes the effort to be this way if he’s being honest. Harry makes the effort to hold everyone’s attention and make everyone feel important, because, for years, he portrayed the demeanor of someone who thought he was the most important person in the room, that he was where all the attention should be. That is until he met someone who made him see how truly minuscule in the affairs of universes and worldly happenings, he is. That is until Harry met Caroline, and he realized that there was nothing more that he wanted than to know everything and anything about her, instead of talking about himself, for once.
Until Harry met Caroline, and everything changed.
Harry isn’t sure what time it is, right now. Green eyes stare at the stark white walls surrounding him, his head leaning against a concrete foundation and the clicking of the clocks on the wall – and yet, he still can’t seem to find the time from anyone – and a raging headache forming at the forefront of his mind. His eyes shut quickly, squeezing closed to try and make the time pass any quicker than it is. Time is going so slowly, though, that he thinks he might scream. Harry wants to scream, honestly. That might make the pain easier to swallow, the heartache easier to handle.
Going based on the trajectory of the situation and where they are, Harry would be going home alone, tonight, and that’s a pill that he’s not prepared to swallow quite yet. That, and the idea that someone might tell him something that he really doesn’t want to hear, something about Caroline that will break him at the core.
Caroline wasn’t … you know … right?
Thinking that makes Harry want to be sick. There would have been a sign. There would have been some sort of something if she was. There would have been a note, a letter, something. And yet, there was nothing when Harry came home; nothing that could give him a sign or a clue or something that will tell him if he needs to worry or not.
Harry couldn’t make sense of it.
“Mr. Styles,” the nurse says, coming through a hallway and gently touching his shoulder to garner his attention, her soft demeanor comforting him as he looks with exhausted and bloodshot eyes, tears staining his cheeks. “Unfortunately, we have to keep Ms. Ryan for the twenty-four-hour waiting period, with her history and her family history, to make sure she’s not trying to hurt herself or others.” Harry nods understandingly without saying a word – that much was expected – and stands on his feet, ready to see his fiancée, finally. “Honestly, based on Ms. Ryan’s previous welfare checks and hospital stays, the doctor was not expecting it to go as well as it did. Ms. Ryan’s welfare check went much better than the others in her history, which is great news.”
“Think that we both know my wife isn’t okay, but is she okay enough for me to see her?” Harry asks nervously, unsure of the technical aspects of a hospital stay and the regulations that they’re going to have to follow. Caroline has never had this bad of an episode in their time together, and this has scared Harry more than anything. “Am I allowed to see her? I really want to see her. I’ll follow whatever regulations you have, but if I could see her, that would be really kind of you.”
That’s the first time Harry’s said the word out loud. Wife. Caroline would be Harry’s wife, soon. This could effectively tamper with the timeline and how long that very well takes. Harry doesn’t care about any of that like he knows Caroline will. Harry cares about Caroline getting better and coming home.
“Of course, Mr. Styles. Caroline can have visitors, now, and you can see her, stay with her, too. Caroline is dehydrated, mainly, and malnourished from not eating for a week, so she’s hooked up to a lot of machines, just so you’re aware,” the nurse says smoothly and calmly, checking her notes on her clipboard and reading technical terms that Harry can’t seem to grasp or understand. “Caroline is not suicidal, though. Truthfully, that’s what counts, right now. That’s what everyone cares about.”
Caroline sat in the hospital bed when Harry walks inside with the nurse, with wires clinging to her body, nibbling on a sandwich while he walks right to her and sits at her bedside. Harry swears that he won’t be able to handle seeing her like this, again. Harry wants to be sick just thinking about it. Caroline, naturally, makes a joke about the hospital socks, saying, “My third pair of hospital socks and they’ve finally given me something other than that hideous orange color. Oh, the joys of London Town!”
“Callie,” Harry sighs, shaking his head and breathes out a laugh, rolling his eyes as he leans onto the bed and kisses her forehead as she clicks her heels together in the baby blue sticky socks underneath the blanket and makes the wish for the two to be home, in the comfort of their own bed. Harry thought he couldn’t stay, that he wasn’t allowed, and that killed him, to know that she would be alone in a room by herself, having to sit alone with her thoughts for days. Thankfully, that’s simply not the case, tonight. He doesn’t think he could have handled being alone, tonight, anyways. Not after what he saw. “Callie, you scared the living shit out of me.”
Caroline sets her sandwich on the tray, wipes her hands on her napkin, and opens her blanket. reaching for Harry with wide arms, smiling softly when Harry immediately rushes towards her and circles his arms around her waist, hugging her tightly and breathing in her scent. “I love you. I’m sorry.”
“Don’t do that to me, again,” Harry says strictly, sternly, his eyes welling with tears as his fingers gently brush over her cheek and his lips meet her forehead softly. “Caroline, I need you to take this seriously, okay? Baby, you didn’t eat for nearly two weeks.”
Caroline whispers something in Harry’s ear, something that he can’t really understand, and he brushes it away, simply going back to holding her tightly and breathing in the sweet apple scent that lingers in her hair. Harry assumes it was something of another apology, which isn’t something he really wants, per se, it’s more the fact that she didn’t tell him, that she didn’t reach out to him. Harry knows why, and he feels guilty, so guilty.
Caroline doesn’t like bothering Harry when he’s doing business; especially not business that involves moving Shakespeare’s Library to elsewhere in the United Kingdom and would be a great investment opportunity. Caroline doesn’t like being the reason Harry can’t focus – unless it’s for ulterior motives – and the fact of the matter is, Harry wouldn’t have gone away on business if he knew Caroline was about to face an episode like she is, right now. Caroline and Harry both know that much.
Harry, then, feels incredibly guilty when something of the sort happens, because not only did he not know, but he wasn’t there to fix it. Harry likes to fix it.
“Callie, what happened that made you do this?” Harry wracks his brain trying to find a reason because Caroline was so good before he left. Caroline was writing and eating and functioning before he was set to leave; something must’ve happened in the day that he was flying and settling in that made her break. “What triggered it, Callie? I know something did. I wouldn’t have left you alone if I knew you were in an episode, like that. That’s not how we do things; you’re supposed to tell me. I’m supposed to be there for you, Cal.”
“Harry, it wasn’t anything.”
“Caroline Elizabeth Ryan.” Harry never uses Caroline’s whole name like that. That’s when it occurs to Caroline how poorly Harry is dealing with this, right now. Caroline, usually, only has to worry about how she is dealing with her episodes, she’s nearly forgotten there’s a whole other person on the receiving end, now, a person she loves very deeply. “Does it have to do with your mother? Is Lucy why you’re in here? ‘Cause I swear to God, Callie, I’ll march myself to wherever she has and have a kindly chat with her.”
“My mother has nothing to do with this,” Caroline says through her teeth, and Harry can tell that she’s lying. Caroline’s tell, her quirk, so to speak, is that fact that her jaw clenches tightly and she has to speak through her teeth whenever she’s lying. Caroline doesn’t lie to Harry – it’s one of their boundaries – and it’s easy for him to tell when she is. Harry tilts his head, his eyes pointing at her directly and his lips pursed together in a straight line, his expression saying everything that he isn’t. “Can we talk about this later? I’m exhausted and I missed you. I can hear that you’re angry with me, too. I don’t like that you’re angry, with me, right now.”
“Caroline,” Harry says calmly, sighing out a breath between his lips, shaking his head and sitting on the corner of the makeshift mattress that the hospital has laid her on, “not this time, okay. Can’t, you can’t shy away from this conversation, this time.”
“I’m not ready to have this conversation, Harry.”
Harry’s voice breaks, the tears beginning to fall down his cheeks again and the pain collecting in his throat, the lump that he swallowed down when he walked into the hospital room now resurfacing and bringing the tears to his eyes. “Callie, tell me. This isn’t something to run away from.”
“My mother,” Caroline swallows thickly, her eyes welling with tears at the thought, shaking her head to try and shake the incessant, nagging feeling that she’s going to cry, “she, um, sent me a letter in the mail. It came the day you left.”
“And what did it say, Cal?” That’s what makes Caroline break into hysterics, the six words making tears pour down her cheeks, her chest heaving with shaky breaths, her hands covering her face with her fingertips digging into her eyes, trying to hide the tiny markings her nails are leaving in her face. Harry gently pries her hands away, kissing her fingers and scooting closer to her body, taking her hands in his and holding them tightly. “Baby, tell me.”
Caroline sucks a breath in through her teeth and hurriedly says, “My mother is back in the country with her mother and would appreciate it if, even though we live only a few hours away, I wouldn’t contact her anymore. Lucy said that it’s great that I’m doing well and have my life together, that she’s happy for me, but she would prefer to not have any contact with me.” Harry kisses Caroline’s knuckles and gently wipes at her eyes, the wires getting tangled in their hands. “Harry, why doesn’t she want me?”
“Callie, baby,” Harry sighs, sliding himself closer and wrapping his arms around her shoulders, bringing her into his chest, her face tucking into his neck and immediately wetting his shirt with her tears. Harry doesn’t mind it, he would rather have her crying in his arms than see her unconscious in their bedroom, again. “I’m sorry your mother is so horrible to you. I’m so sorry.”
“All I want is for her to want me, Harry,” Caroline sniffles, shaking her head and feeling done with the conversation, taking her hands from her thighs and wiping her eyes, sighing into Harry’s neck and kissing his skin lightly for comfort. “Kiss? Could really use one, right about now.”
“Always, love. My Buggy.” Harry smiles softly and nudges Caroline’s face with his nose, his lips laying a kiss on her cheek and waiting for her to tilt her head slightly towards him to kiss her mouth. His mouth moves slowly on hers, kissing her sweetly and gently, as though a slightly harsh touch could leave her bruised and bandaged. “Callie, you mean everything to me. More than you’ll ever know.”
“Can’t be more than what you mean to me.” Caroline shakes her head in disapproval. “Hate that you still call me ‘Buggy’, as though I’m still a nuisance, to you, though,” she says, and he laughs breathily, at that, because it’s not the reason he calls her that, now, but it was. Oh God, Harry thought Caroline was such an annoyance when they first met. “Hard to believe I used to hate your guts,” Caroline giggles, tucking her chin to her chest and spinning her engagement ring on her finger, the tiny diamond sitting perfectly on her hand. Harry hates how small it is, but it’s Caroline’s favorite jewellery she’s ever owned. “Oh boy, the hate I had for you. I could’ve beat you up, Harry Styles.”
“Caroline Ryan, all you would’ve done is start to cry.” Harry shakes his head. “Barely a punch to the jaw, which I would’ve deserved, by the way, and you would’ve been in tears. I love you for it, but you wouldn’t handle that very well.”
“Hey!” Harry laughs for the first time in hours, a hearty laugh, a laugh that makes Caroline’s heart swell in her chest and feel like it’s going to burst with how much she loves him. God, Caroline really loves Harry. Like, wholeheartedly in love with him, type of love. “I could’ve done it. I could’ve done it, without crying. Maybe a little stutter-stepping, but I could’ve done it.”
“All right, all right,” Harry sighs, leaning forward and kissing her forehead, lingering on her skin to breathe her in, his eyes squeezing shut when she grabs his cheeks and kisses his mouth, once more. “Have all those tests and meetings with the doctors, tomorrow, and you need your rest.”
Caroline’s eyes go wide. “Can you stay? Do you have to go?”
“I’ll be right there, all night,” he says, pointing towards the makeshift lounger in the corner of the room with blankets and a pillow laying on the cushion. “Callie, I promised you ages ago, I’m not going anywhere.”
Caroline sighs, nodding quietly and pursing her lips together. Harry’s words are true, she knows this with her whole heart, but there is the angry and subconscious part of her brain that tells her that Gabriel Ryan said that, too. Her father said that, too. Caroline swallows a lump in her throat, breathing through her nose and shoving her tray of food away from her, suddenly feeling exhausted and mentally drained. Maybe it was the conversation about her mother, maybe it was the promise that her father broke, maybe it is the idea that Harry is there and no one else cares. Maybe it’s everything all at once making Caroline feel so utterly tired, but her eyes are beginning to shut against her cheeks and her heart rate is beginning to slow. Harry can see that she’s finished by her quiet actions, kissing her cheek and gently moving from the mattress to the lounger, looking at Caroline with concerned eyes as she turns onto her side and yanks the blanket closer around her neck.
“Goodnight, Bug. I love you,” Harry whispers, kissing her forehead and sighing against her skin as she nods her head. Harry can see the depression oncoming, the confession of her mother’s letter and the promise that her father broke lingering in the air. Caroline is great at putting on a façade around everyone else, but with Harry, it’s barely functioning. “Things are going to get better, Callie. Do you trust me?” Caroline nods silently, tears welling in her eyes and beginning to fall down her cheeks. Harry walks to the lounger, cranking the lever and turning out the recliner to lay on for the evening. Caroline’s voice draws his attention, turning away from his bed and listening to her carefully. “Say that one more time, for me, Cal?”
“Can you read me some of your poetry?” she whispers, the lights barely illuminating her eyes that he adores so much. Caroline doesn’t turn around, remaining facing the doorway and listening carefully. “Maybe from when we didn’t like each other so much. Tell me that things get better.”
Harry smiles softly, taking his leather notebook – the one that he carries with him everywhere – and opening to the first page written with an indented ‘C’ in the header. “This is from the day I was late to our very first annotations meeting.”
Caroline giggles, sniffling quietly and then says, “Oh, I was infuriated with you, that day. God, I asked Rigsby for a new annotation partner, too. Think I told you that I hope you never fall in love with someone like me.”
“That’s absolutely correct,” Harry laughs, shaking his head at the memory. Meeting Caroline and the very first few months of knowing her were so difficult, Harry thought they’d never get along. Harry made it a challenge for himself, to have Caroline like him, even the slightest bit, and that started his fascination and infatuation with her; the one that made him fall in love with her. “Are you ready, love?”
Caroline sucks in a breath and rolls to her side, her eyelashes wet against her cheeks as she stares at Harry adoringly, forcing a smile and swallowing back a choked sob as she notices how fully written in this notebook is, how many pages are marked and colored and decorated in intricate drawings that represent the poetry he’s scribbled in his writing. Caroline notices the ‘C’ imprinted in the front of the notebook, and that’s when she realizes. “Have you moved every poem about me into that notebook, Shakespeare?”
“Maybe.”
Caroline nods silently, sucking in a breath through her nose and snuggling deeper into the sheets on the mattress, smiling softly at the man laying across from her, ready to read his poetry. “Okay.”
Harry dramatically clears his throat, smiling softly at Caroline, his fingertip holding the page where the poetry begins on the day, they met alone for the very first time. “you told me that you never fall in love // that it’s too dangerous, too risky // and i have begun to wonder // that if love is too risky // what is it that makes you feel safe.”

Caroline waits at the coffee shop for nearly three hours without a show from Harry.
Having three coffees and one muffin and about three hours of gearing up to even come to the coffee shop alone, Caroline is fed up and ready to leave. That is until, the floppy tendrils of curls show up rushing through the door at a near four in the afternoon, sputtering apologies as he flops his things on the spare chair at the table and hurries to the counter to buy himself a drink. He looks dishevelled, as though he’s woken up only minutes ago and hurried here, and part of Caroline wants to feel sorry for him that he’s slept until two in the afternoon, most likely, and forgotten.
That part of Caroline is very small, though.
“Caroline, I’m so sorry,” Harry says hurriedly, brushing through his hair and taking a seat at the table and pulling out his notebook and his computer and textbook with the play written inside. “I overslept. I was working on this poetry assignment, all night. Not trying to make an excuse. This was our plan all week. I’m sorry.”
“Let’s just get started. Our discussions are due in less than,” Caroline says distractedly, looking at her phone for the time, “six hours.”
“Right, yeah,” Harry says embarrassedly, his cheeks turning red beneath the softened lights of the coffee shop, his hands slightly shaking as he was rushing to get himself together, his papers scattered in his notebook. “Have you annotated anything, yet? Obviously, there are my annotations that you can copy, if you need them.”
Caroline laughs, shaking her head and letting out a frustrated laugh, “Harry, that’s, um, nice, I think.” Her eyes are squinted as she stares at him, and then she turns to her textbook and opens to the first act of the play. “But, in the three hours I was waiting for you, I finished the entire first act. I’m ready for the discussion. Could do that, we could do that, and then leave, if you’d like. Obviously, you have more important things to be doing.”
Harry looks awfully embarrassed and there is a sudden boost of confidence that Caroline feels around him. Usually, Harry is the one with the chip on his shoulder, with the one-up on the partners that he’s working with, especially women. Harry has his looks, his charm, and occasionally – if he’s using it well enough – his intelligence. Harry’s poetry usually wins over the women and men he works with, the inspiration that strikes when he’s working with someone that is smarter, brighter, more intelligent than he is, bringing him closer and closer to finishing his poetry collection that he’s been working since his acceptance into the graduate program. Coming into his fourth section of poetry, Harry’s found himself writing about love and love stories and romance since the day he started his portfolio, and yet he’s missing an entire section about unrequited love.
That is more frustrating than anything, Harry’s found.
“Um, sure,” Harry sighs, letting out a heavy breath and raising his hand to the waiter that’s walking near their table, ordering a black coffee and a muffin before settling into his seat, once more, and opening to the page that the discussion post is referring to. “Okay, well, this discussion post is asking about the difference between infatuation and love between Orsino and Viola and Olivia, in Act One.” Harry looks between Caroline and their notebooks and their textbooks and says, “There isn’t one, really.”
“Did you just say there isn’t a difference?” Caroline asks astonishedly, shaking her head and setting her pen in her notebook and shutting her computer halfway. “Orsino is practically tripping over himself for Olivia, and Olivia is falling for Cesario, or Viola playing pretend to get into the palace and find her brother. All of it is infatuation. Orsino’s entire claim for love is based on his infatuation with Olivia.”
“Tell me something,” he says smoothly, nodding his head to the waitress bringing his coffee and his muffin and thanking her quietly before turning to Caroline and squinting his eyes. “Do you not believe that love is partially based on infatuation? Isn’t that how you fall in love? By becoming infatuated with someone, with something. Do you not believe in love at all?”
Caroline sits back in her seat, very well aware of the judgement being passed to her in this very moment, and is slightly insulted by his insinuation, his implication. “Look, Harry, whatever personal judgements I have on love and falling in love are truthfully none of your business. At the end of the day, love is risky and dangerous. Anyone that willingly falls in love is a fool.”
“That’s bloody depressing,” Harry says with a scowl, shaking his head and brushing his fingers through his hair, pushing the floppy tendrils away from his forehead and revealing his bright green eyes that suddenly feel intimidating to the look. “I love love, I think. I think there’s something so fun about wanting to be partners with somebody, wanting to be by their side through thick and thin. That’s what makes life exciting. Doing it with another person.”
“Happy for you,” Caroline notes sarcastically, shrugging her shoulders and beginning to write out her discussion post on her computer, completely ignoring Harry’s pointed stare and the judgement passing through his emerald eyes. “Love isn’t safe. This story proves that. Could you imagine falling in love with someone, only to realize they’re not really that person? That would be devastating.”
Harry uncaps his highlighter and pen and begins annotating the remaining sections of the play’s act, ignoring Caroline’s harsh judgements and words. “Guess that’s how you feel but it’s wrong,” he says under his breath, writing carefully his thoughts about the obsession between Olivia and Orsino and Cesario. “At the end of the day, everyone wants to find love in their life. Obviously, you want your love to be requited, but if it’s not, at least you experienced love in some capacity, yeah?”
Caroline doesn’t pick up her head from her computer screen, not bothering to even engage in the conversation with him. Caroline’s barely known Harry for a week, barely spoken to him for more than an hour, and she already heavily dislikes him. “Not particularly.”
“Look Caroline –” Harry goes to say, his eyes growing wide when Caroline cuts him off nearly immediately, shocking him out of his words for a minute.
“Callie, for the umpteenth time. Liv already told you that, I’m sure.”
Harry looks at Caroline with gritted teeth and a clenched jaw, tilting his head slightly and gathering his thoughts before speaking, again. “Callie, I’m not sure what your problem with me is, considering we just met, but–”
Caroline cracks her fingers, sucks in a breath through her teeth and says all in one outburst, “My problem with you, is that you’re not taking this seriously, unlike me, and you’re pretentious and think you’re the best at everything. That is not how you make a first impression and to put it simply, you’ve made the worst one upon me.”
Harry’s mouth clamps shut, his jaw tensing and un-tensing as he breathes in through his nose and out through his mouth, trying to remain composed and not act as though this conversation is absurdly hurting his ego. Harry’s ego is something that he built up so much over time, that it seemed impossible for anyone to tear it down, and yet here she comes, all in one break, destroying his egotistical demeanor. He is good at whatever he works on, the annotations, the poetry, the writing. His confidence is based on the boosts from professors and family and friends always building up his abilities and saying how capable he is to be someone, to be a writer.
And Harry is pissed, pissed that someone that is a bit too insecure themselves, that uses their mental health as a way to treat other people poorly, that wants to say he doesn’t take his education seriously, is trying to make him insecure about himself, too.
“If that’s how you feel,” Harry says, very much insulted by her statement and trying to formulate a response that is worthy to make it known how he feels about everything, “then I’m willing to speak to Rigsby about switching partners. Although, I think it’s unfair that you’ve passed a judgement about me so quickly when I’ve barely made a judgement about you.”
“Okay, Harry. Truthfully, Liv already told me what you said about me that first day I met you. You made judgements about me before we’d even sat down together, alone. That only supports my judgement about you, doesn’t it? That you’re an egotistical, pretentious person that quickly judges others that aren’t like you.”
“Caroline, the only thing that I’ve judged you on is the fact that you use your mental health or whatever the hell it is that you use to gain sympathy from other people. Especially your friends.”
Quickly standing up, she gathers her things and shoves her computer into her backpack, laying her hands on the table and gritting her teeth so hard it looks like her jaw might actually break. Caroline stares Harry down, making him slightly uncomfortable with how hard she’s looking at him. “Harry Styles, you don’t know anything about me or my mental health or my friends. Quite honestly, it’s people like you, that make people like me, not talk about my mental health with others. Maybe you should thank whatever the fuck you believe in that you don’t have to handle mental health issues. And I hope to God that you never fall in love with someone that wakes up with a brain like mine every, single, fucking day because you’ll ruin their life with how lowly you think of them.” Caroline gathers her belongings and hurries out the door, the wind brushing against her cheeks and whipping against her heated skin. Her fists are clenched together in tight coils of anger, one hand releasing from the tight ball and reaching into her bag for her car keys, quickly unlocking her tiny, navy blue sedan and throwing her backpack into the passenger seat and immediately walking around to climb into the driver’s seat.
Harry is speechless, absolutely and utterly speechless, and unable to stand up and say something properly to defend himself before she’s rushing out the door. “Caroline, wait!” Harry pushes his chair out from beneath him, stumbling around the fallen wood and drawing plenty of eyes to his distraught figure as he hurriedly rushes out of the building and into the parking lot where Caroline is spilling expletives with all of her belongings scattered on the ground. “Caroline, wait for a second!” Caroline doesn’t wait, continuing to try and gather all of her things and shove them into her bag but the material is wrapped together and making it difficult and there are tears welling in her eyes as she drops everything frustratedly and sits back on the tarmac in absolute frustration. “Caroline.”
“Harry, what do you want from me?” Caroline takes a deep breath, gathering all of her things, throwing her bag in the passenger seat of her truck and climbing inside, trying to ignore the silence that overwhelms the two of them as they stand there staring at each other. Caroline can feel a tear fall down her cheek in betrayal, the last thing she wanted was to cry in front of him.
“I,” Harry is quiet, unable to fully make a sentence and spit out a coherent thought. “I’m sorry for what I said. I, I didn’t mean it. That was wrong of me to say. Rigsby wanted us to work together because we’re the best students in that class and likely have a few things in common when it comes to working with literature. I need to graduate in May, too. Can you please give me a second chance? I swear I won’t make you regret it.”
Caroline looks at Harry and looks at her white knuckles clutching the steering wheel, the little crescents starting to form in the cushion of the wheel. Guess it’s better that it’s the wheel rather than my thighs, she thinks. There is so much harm that could come from being Harry Styles’ partner, Caroline’s decided. Harry Styles doesn’t understand her mental health, firstly, and he likely never will, based on his reactions and interaction in the first conversations and dialogues they’ve shared. Harry Styles is pretentious and rude, secondly. Harry Styles, thirdly, thinks he’s the very best thing to walk the planet and knowing Caroline’s father, that would be the furthest thing from the truth.
“Honestly, Harry, I can’t,” Caroline says truthfully, shaking her head and grabbing the gear to shift into reverse and back out of the parking lot, Harry quickly moving his feet to avoid being run over with the impatience she’s exhibiting. “I’ll be talking to Rigsby on Monday about a new partner.”
* *
Caroline is angry. Angry is the only way to describe the way she feels, right now. Angry, specifically, with a man by the name of Harry Styles.
Donald Rigsby refused to change their annotation partner, insisting that Harry Styles would make the best pairing for the intensity of the course load that they would be doing throughout the semester. Donald Rigsby said, and Caroline could quote, “Harry Styles is a charming young man that is an excellent writer and I’m sure it’s all a misunderstanding.” Caroline wanted to roll her eyes, to tell him that he’s an asshole that doesn’t understand empathy of any sort. Caroline wanted to say so many things, and instead, she nodded her head silently, forced that famous smile that everyone knows and loves, and walked out of his office with a slight stomp to her feet.
Caroline immediately grabbed her phone and wrote a very calculated worded email to Harry Styles, saying:
Harry,
Unfortunately, and though I tried to talk him out of it, Rigsby has insisted on us being partners, for some reason unbeknownst to me. He has expressed his opinion thoroughly about the topic and would like to not hear further about it. He believes that we will make a great team working on annotating Shakespeare’s texts, based on our work ethic and our talent as writers. Although this is not what I would have wished for, I am hoping for the best, as we both have to graduate at the end of the year, and very much need this course to pass our degrees. I am sending this email as an offering of peace for the time being until we can meet again.
I am free again on Saturday for another annotation meeting for the second act of the play. Is that time going to work for you? Let me know as soon as possible. Thank you.
Callie Ryan
Caroline waits two days for a response from Harry. Two. Whole. Days. Caroline waits for two days, and the only response that she gets is infuriating, absolutely maddening, totally and completely frustrating.
All Harry says is this:
Caroline,
Apology accepted. See you on Saturday.
Harry x
Apology accepted? Apology accepted? Is Harry so dense in that thick skull of his that he thinks that Caroline was apologizing for what she said to him? Absolutely fucking not. Caroline would never apologize for what she said. Caroline wouldn’t apologize for saying that she hopes Harry never falls in love with someone like her, especially. Caroline meant all of it, every single word, from the beginning to the end. Adding onto the fact that she meant all of it, it is her best commentary to this day.
Caroline walks out of her shift at the local bookstore with steam whistling from her ears, her eyes reading over the email again and again, silently wishing that she’ll look at the screen of her phone once more, on the off chance that she clicked the wrong email and it’s not actually what was sent to her. Harry couldn’t be that ridiculous, right?
There isn’t any way that anyone can be that pretentious and uptight. There simply can’t be. Caroline refuses to believe it.

Caroline waits at the coffee shop for nearly six hours, on the day of their meeting, waiting for Harry. Maybe a bit less than that. Maybe a bit less than that because it took her three hours to gear up to meet him with her anxiety and the episode she’s been suffering through. Caroline struggled to get out of bed, to even make it to her car, barely functioning to brush her teeth and thread her fingers through her hair. Her hair has been tangled in a braid for three days, and it’s beginning to look a bit dishevelled, although she has run water through the baby hairs flying around her forehead.
Caroline’s medicine is all out of whack. Originally, it was working for a while, making sure the episodes were manageable and taken care of throughout each stint of the rollercoaster, the lights on and lights off as she’s called it since the earliest age of twelve. However, now, it’s like the medicine isn’t even doing anything to her system, and she’s hitting the highest highs and the lowest lows for weeks without any remorse. Caroline can handle it usually, but with the stress of her father’s anniversary coming in October, the horrible partner she’s been assigned in her annotations course, and the overall overwhelming sensation of graduation lingering around the corner, there’s a bit too much to be able to handle the highs and lows every two weeks.
Caroline is in a Lights Off week.
Caroline can tolerate a lot. Making that clear to people is something that she prides herself on. Caroline can tolerate most things: running late, cancelling, having to reschedule because of a conflict of some sort. Caroline cannot tolerate skipping a meeting entirely … without any warning.
Harry doesn’t show one hour, two hours, three hours, four hours later.
Caroline checks her email twice, maybe even three times to see whether or not he’s emailed her last minute to say that he couldn’t come. Nothing. Not a word from Harry Styles.
Caroline waits around for another hour waiting for Harry, completing the annotations for Act II of The Twelfth Night and finishing the “Act II Discussion” Rigsby posted online earlier that week. Hatred and anger rush through her veins as she thinks about how this should’ve been done with her “partner”, today, and the way that he’s not even had the courtesy to tell her that he had to cancel their meeting and do the work on his own. Caroline gathers her belongings, taking out her phone and dialling her best friend’s number, ready to rant and rave about this person that she’s being encouraged and more so, forced, into talking to daily, that clearly doesn’t respect her or her boundaries for working environments. That may be what makes Caroline even more angry. Harry doesn’t respect her. If Harry does respect her, he surely doesn’t know how to show it.
Caroline clicks on Liv’s number, tucking the phone in between her shoulder and her ear, and gathering her things to take to her car, waving goodbye to the workers that know her by name and shuffling to her vehicle parked in the very first space outside. Caroline makes everything a habit, from where she frequents to the minuscule habits that only a boyfriend or girlfriend could catch onto, like the way she washes her hands twice before dinner and compulsively types her notes on her computer to avoid rewriting after lectures. Caroline is comfortable with her life, with how she lives it, and she isn’t going to let one person get in the way of the peace that she’s brought to her life over the last year without her father around, a feeling of tranquillity that he would have wanted for her.
“Hey, Callie. How’s it going?” Liv says when she answers the phone, a smile evident in her voice and Caroline can only assume she’s with her significant other by the extra voices in the background. “Did you finish your annotations?”
“Of course. Guess who didn’t fucking show, again?” Caroline grumbles, climbing into her car and waiting for the phone to connect to the speaker for her to leave safely. Caroline shakes her head angrily, the utter disappointment and upset building inside of her chest making her want to scream and cry. Could someone really be this insensitive to someone else? Could Harry really be this ridiculous? Donald Rigsby is wrong about Harry Styles. Very wrong. “Things would be fine, I would be fine, if I wasn’t losing my fucking mind over the workload for this class,” she continues, shaking her head and carding her fingers through her hair frustratedly. “I don’t understand how anyone could be so insensitive towards others. It’s absolutely fucking ridiculous. I can’t stand him, Liv. I don’t care what Rigsby has to say about him. I think Harry Styles is the worst person on the planet.”
“Callie,” Liv says softly, warningly, almost and it makes Caroline go silent. Caroline knows what Liv is about to say and she is simply praying that she wasn’t on speaker phone. “Callie, Harry’s here with Niall.” Caroline goes deathly silent, now. Liv walks out of the room, eyeing Harry apologetically, and making her way into her bedroom to talk to her best friend and hopefully calm her down before she comes home. “Cal, Harry was here because he broke up with his girlfriend and needed to talk to Niall.”
“Harry could’ve messaged me,” Caroline mumbles, closing her eyes momentarily and soaking in the silence that overwhelms her car, the moment of silence where her brain is finally quiet and there is nothing to be heard from anyone. Caroline knows it won’t last long. Caroline’s brain is never nice to her for very long.
“Harry says you didn’t give him your number, only your email.”
“Well, yeah. Why would I give a stranger my phone number, Liv?” Caroline sighs, turning into the car park and grumbling when she sees a vintage car parked in her space. Caroline doesn’t need to know anything about anyone to know that a pretentious asshole would have a car, like that. Most certainly it’s Harry’s. “Motherfucker parked in my space, now, too. God damnit!”
“Callie, are you okay?”
“Fine, Liv,” Caroline breathes out, pinching the bridge of her nose and leaning her head back on the headrest behind her. Momentarily, Caroline makes the decision that she’ll take herself to her boyfriend’s house for the week, not really wanting to be around her best friend and his boyfriend and the subsequent asshole that is making himself known around their apartment. “Think I’m going to go to Max’s for the week, this way you and Niall can have the apartment. Getting my things from my car and then I’ll come and get my things.”
“Don’t have to do that, Callie,” Liv sighs, heaving a heavy breath into the speaker and pursing her lips together, trying to find a way to relieve her best friend’s anxiety and the tension creating itself in their conversation as they continue to speak. Caroline always gets angry so easily when her mood is like this, and Liv knows why, she’s not angry over it, she knows what she’s done to make her best friend so frustrated with her and the situation at hand. “I’ll kick Harry out if he makes you uncomfortable, Cal.”
“Olivia,” she says, shaking her head and turning off her car, opening the driver’s door and stepping out onto the concrete, “it’s fine.”
Caroline walks up the steps to their apartment and opens the door quietly, trying to make as little noise and draw as little attention to herself as possible. Harry is standing in the kitchen, laughing with Niall about something unrelated and turns to look at Caroline, his eyes widening at the way she immediately walks straight past him, nudging his shoulder along the way, and to her bedroom to start gathering her belongings that she’ll need to take with her to her boyfriend’s house.
“Caroline,” Harry says, earning a smack to the arm from Niall and a deathly look from Liv. Harry doesn’t care what they say, her name is Caroline, that’s what he’s going to call her. “Can we talk outside?”
Caroline looks at Harry questioningly, her eyebrows coming together in the center of her forehead as she contemplates telling him off right then and there. Harry has an ego bigger than his head, the privilege that exudes from the way he views mental health making her skin crawl with disgust, and an attitude that extends much further than what Caroline could rightfully handle. Could anything good come from a conversation with Harry? Likely not. Has Caroline impulsively decided that this conversation can be her time to tell Harry to go to hell? Yes.
Harry walks outside first, holding the door open and waiting for Caroline to lay her things on the tile flooring near the front door and follow him outside. Harry’s eyes travel across the expanse of her figure, and he’s well aware that it’s wrong, and that she has a boyfriend, but there is something about her that he can’t get his mind to wrap around, that he has an infatuation with.
Anna Marie and Harry broke up this afternoon. That’s the whole reason that Harry came to Liv and Niall, in the first place, to tell them that she’s gone, and they wouldn’t have to deal with her anymore. Niall cheered and Liv smiled knowingly, telling him that Callie and Max were still very much together. Harry assured her that that wasn’t the reason why that he had no intentions of pursuing Caroline, but Liv knows better. Liv knows boys better than that. Harry just shrugged her off and went about his conversation with Niall, talking about the way Anna Marie insisted she was breaking up with him, instead. Harry let her have her way, as long as it meant he wasn’t with her anymore. Could that be considered something that an asshole would do? Likely so. Did Harry care all that much? Not really.
Caroline nods in a halfway ‘thank you’ at Harry as the apartment shuts behind her, knowing fully well that Liv and Niall are waiting on the other side to hear what they have to say to each other. Caroline ignores it, knowing that she’ll get an earful from her best friend whenever they have time alone for being too harsh or mean to her boyfriend’s best friend. Caroline shakes her head at the notion, thinking to herself how ridiculous the whole situation is.
If Harry had just shown up on time, showed a little bit of respect, maybe respected other people’s boundaries, then this wouldn’t be happening. This wouldn’t be a conversation that they have to have. Caroline wouldn’t hate him the way she does.
“Okay,” Harry starts, shrugging his shoulders and leaning against the railing so that his shirt tightens against his chest and the muscles in his arms are on perfect display. If Caroline found him attractive, maybe this would distract her, cause her mouth to go dry and her comebacks to weaken. Good thing it isn’t that way. “Caroline, you think of me as the worst person on the planet?”
“I do, yeah,” Caroline states flatly, leaning against the door and trying to keep her eyes on his. Maintaining eye contact has never been one of Caroline’s strong suits and doing so when she’s obscenely angry is certainly not making it any easier. “Harry, you’re kind of a piece of shit.”
“All this anger because I missed an annotation meeting, and I didn’t tell you?” Harry sounds like he’s mocking her and it’s making Caroline even more angry than she already is. Gabriel Ryan would never tolerate this behavior. “Is that really it, love? Is this something more going on?”
“Don’t ‘love’ me, with your accent, and try and patronize me,” Caroline says through clenched teeth, shaking her head and crossing her arms over her chest to add to her frustrated nature. “That was just icing on the cake, Harry. I really don’t like you.”
“That’s such a shame, innit? ‘Cause I like you.”
“Harry, you don’t even know me!” Caroline is so frustrated she thinks she might cry, tears beginning to gloss over her honey eyes and make her vision blurry. “God, you’re just some privileged guy in my literature class. That’s all you are! Honestly, nothing I say will get through to you! This whole conversation is pointless and useless and a waste of my fucking time!”
“Have you gotten it all out, now, Caroline?” Harry teases, clutching the door handle that Caroline reaches for, blocking her into the door and hovering over her face, his lips merely inches from her mouth, teasing the way her plump flesh entices him for only a second. “Have only one idea on how or what we’re going to do about it to make it better, Caroline. Kiss?”
“Hah! Over my dead body, Harry Styles. Only in your wildest dreams would I ever kiss you.” Caroline slinks beneath Harry’s arms blockading her in and opens the door, frustratedly grabbing her belongings and making her way out of the apartment. “Bye, Liv. Bye, Niall. I’ll see you later.”
“Caroline,” Harry says calmly, reaching for her wrist and grabbing her gently, taking her hand in his and trying to have her attention for more than a moment. Caroline immediately flings her hand out of his and reaches for the keys to her truck. “Meeting this week, maybe? Can get some work done earlier than the weekend if you’d like. I don’t have anything tying me down, now.”
“Harry Styles, you and I are no longer working together. Get this through your thick head. I’m not working with you. I’m not speaking to you. Rigsby never has to know that we didn’t work together. I’ll lie. I don’t want to see you. That’s it. End of story.”

Home.
Home is where many things happen for Caroline and Harry. Home is where Caroline and Harry sing and dance in their kitchen at three in the morning when Caroline is wide awake and needing to be distracted from the intrusive thoughts that are overwhelming her brain. Home is where Harry started his business ventures. Home is where Caroline started writing her novel. Home is where Caroline and Harry kiss beneath the sheets and touch each other intimately and know their way around each other’s bodies, caressing and touching in the most loving way. Home is where the heart is, they say, and that would be true in Caroline’s case.
Harry is home, wherever they are.
Caroline looks at Harry with tears in her eyes, drawing the covers back and gesturing for him to lay in the tiny makeshift bed with her, ignoring the shaking of his head and smirking at the way he sighs and gives in, pushing himself out of the lounger and walking over to her with his notebook in hand, knowing well enough by now that she’ll want him to continue to read to her until she’s sleeping and unable to listen any longer. Her legs are stretched out over his thighs, her cheek laying on his stomach, smiling at the slight pudge that’s accumulated there since they started cooking more meals at home with the bookstore right beneath them. Caroline’s arms circle around his waist, not caring whether or not her arm will fall asleep in the middle of the night or not, and his hands intertwine themselves in her hair, brushing through the straight locks soothingly. His touch is gentle, nurturing, and Caroline suddenly is reminded of when her father used to do the same thing to her when she would have a nightmare or couldn’t sleep.
Harry is like Gabriel in a lot of ways, Caroline recognizes. Maybe, just maybe, that’s why she’s fallen so head over heels in love with him. Caroline never thought she would find a man as good as her father, previous relationships included, and yet, here she is, with one right by her side. Harry is patient and kind, loyal and generous. Harry understands her mental health and never blames her for an episode, good or bad. Harry works with her, and makes sure that she knows that he’s there, no matter what the reason may be. Caroline searched high and low for someone like him, someone that would accept her for the way she is, and even in previous relationships, she never found someone to do it as unconditionally as Harry has. Caroline will be forever grateful for the way they met, although not particularly ideal, because it meant that they met at all.
“Thought you’d be asleep by now, baby,” Harry says softly, brushing his fingers through her hair and kissing her head. “I can read more if you’d like. Do you want to talk instead? Is there anything you want to talk about?”
Caroline’s fingers trace over the pattern on Harry’s shirt mindlessly, the speckled design on the shirt making her frown, realizing that he never had the opportunity to change when he came home. All because of how Harry found Caroline – unconscious in their bedroom. Lying on the floor by their bedside, with her eyes shut and her lips slightly parted. Harry is in his airport clothes, likely reliving the trauma that she’s given him for the rest of his very life.
“Callie,” he says sweetly, taking her attention away from the shirt by lifting her chin and making her eyes meet his, “you don’t have to worry about me. I’m okay.”
“Harry, I should’ve called and told you. I thought I could handle it on my own, that it wouldn’t bother me because there have been so many other times where she rejected me. This time, though, it broke me.” Harry can feel the tears from Caroline’s face soaking into his shirt and trousers and he doesn’t say a word, only turns his body slightly so he’s facing her, and his thumbs can wipe away the tears recklessly falling down her cheeks. “I don’t understand what I did to make her not want me, Harry. All I ever did was be myself. That was too much for her? Am I too much?”
“Never,” Harry says, shaking his head adamantly and pressing his thumb to where her eyebrows have furrowed together and gently rubbing across her skin, kissing her forehead soothingly and lingering there for good measure. “Lucy has a very British way of thinking, Cal. That’s not a great thing when it comes to mental health and all that. Hell, I had a very British way of thinking, at first. There’s a reason we didn’t get along. There’s a reason my friends wouldn’t share things like that with me.” Harry looks at Caroline sincerely and says, “Until I met you.”
Caroline doesn’t say anything for a minute, and Harry thinks that she’s finally fallen asleep. Until an audible breath echoes through the quiet room and Harry looks to see Caroline beginning to wipe tears from her cheeks, once more. “Do you think that we should postpone the wedding? Until I’m better? I’ll understand if you want to delay the wedding, Harry.”
“Caroline Elizabeth,” Harry breathes, shaking his head frustratedly and sighing as he delicately grabs Caroline’s chin and brings her face to meet his. Harry’s thought about delaying the wedding. Of course, Harry has. Although, it’s certainly not because of what Caroline thinks. Harry’s worried that she’ll have another episode in the meantime and want to cancel the wedding altogether while they’re trying to make final preparations and there will be nothing that he can do to change her mind. “I’m marrying you in three months. That’s final. I don’t want to hear another word about it from you. I’m marrying you, I’ve been wanting to marry you, and I’m ready to marry you. Okay, Cal?”
“Okay.”
Harry sighs and kisses her forehead soothingly, gently scratching at her head and kissing a line from her forehead to her nose to her mouth. “I love you, Caroline.”
“Know you do.”
Harry smiles at that, gently turning his body over and laying on his back, allowing Caroline to make herself comfortable. His hands reach for his journal on the makeshift bedside table, opening to a marked page with a poem that he wrote on the plane the day he left, the day everything went wrong, thinking about how much he would miss her and want to be with her every day until they were in each other’s company. “I’m happy that you know.”
“Have you got any clue how much I love you, Harry?”
Harry turns his head to look at Caroline, her eyes slowly shutting and her lips slightly parted as she sucks in deep breaths and gives way to the sleep that’s been nagging at her eyelids for nearly an hour. Harry’s heart is so warm and swollen with Caroline in his arms that it makes him almost forget to answer her. “Have some idea, yeah. It’s a lot. Love me a lot, don’t you?”
“More than anything.”
“Feel the same way about you, Callie,” Harry says honestly, scratching lightly at her scalp and letting his mouth linger with a kiss on her forehead for a while. “Love of my life, you are.”
Harry always means what he says, Caroline knows this. Caroline knows this, even though her brain is bombarded with intrusive thoughts telling her that he’ll leave her like everyone else, eventually. “Falling in Love” is a hard concept to truly understand, to make one’s brain believe they’re worthy of deserving. Caroline has waited a long time, a very long time, to feel like she is worthy of love. Caroline knows why the relationship never worked out with her ex, with Max – because she didn’t feel worthy to be loved by him. Caroline isn’t sure what happened with Harry that made the switch, which made her feel like maybe this one will show her that she’s worthy of it.
Certainly, it’s because of how Harry loves. Harry is the perfect way to learn to love yourself because the way he loves is so unconditional and pure. Harry loves with his whole chest, with his whole might, with a ferocity that makes you feel like you’re the only person on the planet that means anything to him. Caroline, although obsessed with him, certainly hasn’t always felt this way. Caroline certainly couldn’t stand to be around Harry for a while, which made it nearly impossible to see how she could have fallen in love with him. Of everything, their relationship is everything but a mystery, of a circular moment of hatred to love, of infatuation to lust. Harry is the perfect example of the quote, “But our hatred is almost indistinguishable from our love.”
Caroline looks to Harry and simply stares for a while, not saying anything, soaking in the way his fingers brush through her hair and his perfect lips are pursed together in thought as he mindlessly watches the reruns of a television program on the clunky machine shelved in the corner of the room. Caroline doesn’t necessarily want children, for the sake of genetically passing her brain to another human, but looking at Harry, right now, and the way that he is with her, she thinks that it wouldn’t be so horrible to have another version of him toddling around. Caroline knows she’s in love, then – when everything changes because of him.
Harry says something suddenly, his eyes still trained on the television, his fingertips scratching Caroline’s head softly to gain her attention to reality. “Callie, I think you’re incredibly brave.”
Caroline smiles softly, shaking her head and nudging further into Harry’s embrace, threading her leg through his thighs and cuddling closer to him, whispering, “But it is not bravery; I have no choice. I wake up and live my life. Don't you do the same?”
“All the Light We Cannot See?”
Caroline nods with a smile. Harry knowing the novels she references has always made her feel warm inside. “Can you read me one more?” she wonders, nodding towards the poetry journal in his hands and the marked pages that are bending out of the cover. “Only one.”
“Only if you promise to go to sleep,” he says sternly, opening the pages and turning towards the one that is the most recent, the most freshly how he’s feeling. Harry’s been writing poetry about Caroline for so many years that it seems almost impossible that there are things he has forgotten to say or neglected to say. And yet, nearly every day, there is something new that he wants to find the words to express about the love of his life. “Have all those doctor’s visits in the morning, Callie, and the psychiatrist is coming to check on your medicine before we can leave.”
“Fair enough.”
“Only one,” Harry warns, clearing his throat and opening the page, smiling at Caroline’s eyes are already squeezing shut and ready to let his voice lull her to sleep. “Goodnight, my love.”
“feeling you against my chest // my heart is beating, undeniably a mess // you are everything all at once // and i’d do anything for you to see // that you are all i ever need.”
