this is such a small thing but I haaate when people interpret it as hua cheng just pretending he likes xie lian's food out of love. sure we don't get his point of view but I don't think the bday extra could've made it any clearer. like with the belt he doesn't pretend it doesn't look awkward and silly, he bursts into laughter as soon as he sees it, but because it's something xie lian made with him in mind, he truly, genuinely loves it. it's the same with his cooking!!!! coupled with genuine advice and all! wake up people

Noodles has been happier and friendlier lately and I think it's because she found a way back into the storage under the stairs. Where she isn't supposed to go. The thing that bugs me the most about The Greatest Showman is that it's not even a good dramatization of P.T. Barnum.

Barnum was a terrible person, no bones about it. He bought an elderly slave and put her on exhibit for money. He paid a set of parents for the rights to display their infant in a museum (again, for money). He used social engineering to get people to come to his exhibits, and to convince them to leave when they started clogging up the place and keeping new customers from coming in. He hired an opera singer to bring in publicity, then spent the next few years doctoring her reputation to make sure no one would find out she was a massive bigot.

P.T. Barnum was a villain, and a damn good one.

But somehow Hollywood decides that the way to make a movie about this guy is to turn him into a Generic Hollywood Hero??? Why. Just show people who he really was and let them hate him. We'd have eaten that up with a spoon.
