“You know I’ve seen… less nonsense in 3H stuff here. Maybe tempers are finally cooling.”
*Looks up Rhea art while not being logged in* “All Rhea fans are Tradcaths and probably fascists.”
“…Oh right. This fandom has not had a normal day in its life and I probably just have most of the egregious people blocked.”

I'm watching The Fall of Ruby Franke on Disney+, and is there anything scarier than white US suburbias?
To quote my (US) colleague: Honestly, sometimes it feels like the US is 100 cults in a trench coat

some of you will just start saying anything is tankie. saw a tag on a post that was like yeah imperialism is bad but then people will be like to learn more about anti imperialism read lenin! and it's like i have some bad news about where a sizeable amount of anti-imperialist scholars attribute their line of anti-imperialist thought to

The graphic novel's art was amazing and it was a good read but once it tried to start Fire and Ice it went downhill like immediately. Nearly the whole book was skipped over and I was really disturbed by the lack of Graystripe killing Whiteclaw during the riverclan skirmish.

adding on to that previous ask. sorry i had to go do something in the middle of typing 😭
i understand that its not the focus of the books, but i think for how much the two secret societies are tied to the government its a little strange the gov. isnt very reliably elaborated on.
It's almost like the Lost Cities' government is a formality, not an actual governing force. Since its formed under the assumption that elves are good and things like crime and corruption are below them, a problem of other species, and since the Lost Cities are prospering, the point of the government...kind of disappears.
The council enforces and punished broken laws, but since people don't break the laws (or at least so they thought) they're not needed for that. The allocation of resources becomes redundant when they're in constant abundance and never wanting for everything. Resources don't need to be controlled because everyone has access, and all those people can be trusted to be wise and fair because, again, elves are good.
There's just a few things that can't be left to the entire population, like meeting with foreign ruling powers. You need an appointed person. And it's entirely possible that part of having a specific group of people to refer to is for the sake of appearances to the others. It makes them appear more structured and put together, like a cohesive world instead of just a bunch of people left to their own devices, who could be vulnerable to attack.
So I think perhaps the reason we don't see the government elaborated on a lot is because there's nothing to elaborate on. A lot of the typical roles we associate with government aren't necessary here (in precedented times. the current time period is a bit fucked up but this is a temporary blip). It really is a basic and unbalanced as it seems.
It is unusual for a series with non-insignificant secret societies rebellion against and trying to fix the system to not go into more detail or have more detail, but I think it's all connected back to the fact that elves aren't supposed to need that. But these are just my reflections, who knows how accurate they are :)

Everyone I knew in elementary school started having periods in fourth or fifth grade (except for one poor kid who started in 3rd) — including myself.
Tumblr media
“So if little girls experience their menstrual cycle in 5th grade or 4th grade, will that prohibit conversations from them since they are in the grade lower than sixth grade?” asked state Rep. Ashley Gantt, a Democrat who taught in public schools and noted that girls as young as 10 can begin having periods.
“It would,” McClain responded.
Unbelievable. Link to article.
