HOWEVER that being said, he also likes making you laugh. Courting gifts when it was just a crush were often goofy and maybe small inside jokes, or even mini pranks. 

Like a cupcake with sour flavored icing, still good but not at all what you were expecting. Boy did he giggle and laugh when your face puckered up with confusion.

Once he realizes these feelings are here to stay, or if you take initiative and heavily hint or gift him something. Then he gets sincere and downright smitten and soft

He talked to Robin and Nami, they advised him on courting and how to make you his. He only grasped 30% but he’s trying

He would make the ship go broke in order to buy you every cool thing, or every soft nesting thing, or all the food you could eat. 

The king of bringing you random plucked wildflowers (several have been confiscated by Chopper as they were poisonous plants, Luffys eye for weird things haven gotten the best of him)

They're messy but he learns to make flower crowns for you both to wear. Talks about making them for your future kids

He didn’t used to own much clothing, but now he is expanding his wardrobe just so he can have more things that smell like him to wrap you up in.

You have exclusive hat permission, don’t abuse it but if you ever ask him, he does not mind putting it on your head for a while

He thinks you look so good in it too, makes him puff up his chest and yell to the world how awesome you are.

He has bought you one very nice present, one he had to work his butt off to get. Literally, Nami made him get a job on an island to pay for it and he was actually sincere while working there (sorry Baratie). 

It's a unisex gold bangle bracelet with a red ruby with your and his initials engraved in the gold along with the date you joined his crew (because yes he remembers the date perfectly)

without logan being around to show that its possible to be one of the ‘good guys’, he’s afraid that all thats left of him is the horrible things people say about him. the horrible things hes done.

without logan around, he cant see those parts of himself. without logan acting as the bit of hope that someone like him could have a chance, he’d never be able to convince himself he could get better.

his thoughts of his bond with logan transition straight into his experience with leni, an experience that continued the pattern of previous experiences hes had with women. but his experience with logan was different.

yes, as consequence of victor being who he is, logan also left him and betrayed him…but logan still actually knew him. before he went too far down the deep end, as well as when he was dipping his toes into it. even now, he knows logan understands, even if he never verbally admits it outloud.

logan filled the void, and he still continues to do so. logan is a representation of the man he could be, as well as the man he currently is.

thats what makes this arc so incredibly tragic. hes actively working on bettering himself, even while literally being locked in a cage and muzzled and with constant verbal degradation, but its all on his own. and the people around him never believe in his efforts, despite telling him theyre also trying to help.

as shown with leni, he hasnt just hurt others. others have deeply hurt him too(which is another reason for the transition between logan -> leni)

and as yall know, after enough torture n cabin fever, he eventually just gives up and gets logan to kill him(unsuccessfully ofc)

but he doesnt have anyone else, logans in the same boat. even when a relationship seems like its going good, when a women doesnt leave and is being actually truthful, it always ends in death. its the rules of their characters.

they live in a narrative that goes against any wishes they have to just be allowed to love. bcuz everything that happens to them, and everyone around them, tells them they cant.
