it wasn't like... foul play or anything. in my mind it was some sort of electrical failure or bizarre accident. like a lightning strike! actually wait i like that lightning strike idea bc then it could be Raining for this very dramatic scene and i do love me some rain juxtaposing fire <3

and Howdy would've been fine! he got all of his employees and customers out of the building, including himself. he handed them off to Barnaby & Wally, who had been swinging by for dinner with fantastic timing (the fire department was just then arriving). then, like an idiot, Howdy went right back inside the Very On Fire building!

bc, ok, he lives in his store. specifically, above it. the ground floor is the store, then there's a staircase going up to an apartment. and naturally, Howdy was not gonna abandon all of his / the store's legal documents (also his coupon stash) to burn.

so in his mind he was like "yeah ill just pop in, grab these very important files, and then get out. easy!". babe, you're giving Barnaby & Wally a heart attack. that's what you're doing. dumbass (affectionate)

but yeah he's in there, in the burning building, smoke everywhere. meanwhile outside firefighters (and Wally) have to physically hold Barnaby back from going in after Howdy, even though a few more firefighters already went in to find him. its all very dramatic! blah blah blah the front door becomes unusable, blah blah blah the apartment windows explode due to thermal stress & also bc i want them to, etc etc

long story short the firefighters get Howdy out through the back, and mostly unscathed at that! ofc smoke inhalation is a thing, he's got some minor cuts and burns, but it's really not that bad! lucky bastard! he gets taken to the hospital to get treated & make sure he's fine, and he is.

naturally he stays with Barnaby & Wally for a while. he doesn't have a say in the matter lol he was planning on getting a motel room or somethin, but Barnaby picked him up from the hospital, took him home, and went "alright the guest room is ready for you we can go shopping tomorrow for anything you need, you live here now". good thing Howdy rescued his coupons!

the fire damage to the building is, thankfully, mostly cosmetic. it takes a while to clean & fix it, but Howdy has great friends and a wonderful community to help out! everyone chips in, some fundraisers happen, Wally sells some Darling™️ Exclusives™️, etc. long story short they get the store back up & running, and with some new bells and whistles to go with it!

Honestly, I made that joke about Van’s ancient desktop, but it probably works better than new computers. And it made me think: god, Van must HATE planned obsolescence. Stuff that’s built to die? Stuff that’s built to fall apart in a matter of years just to force you to buy more? For a person whose whole deal is gripping tight to the past, to old technology that still works perfectly fine, to the idea of survival threaded through everything from the stories she tells to the machines she rents out? Yeah, dude. No wonder she hates her cell phone. Not only does it force the illusion of connection without actually granting intimacy, but it’s doomed from the minute you take the thing out of the box. For Van, the very idea has got to be offensive.

Yet Ventus, the rebellious human, is the most like a hurricane. To mortals their god is incomprehensible. Devine. Alien. Unknowable. Unfathomable. The god of Mondstadt had been there since the very beginning and it was a fact he would be there til the end.

Yet Ventus thought otherwise. A hurricane that sought to destory the tranquil cage of the north. This boy is unhinged. He has the charisma of a leader, able to charm the citizens to create his rebellion. He is smart, able to plan and deduce when to strike. He is a threat but managed to successfully look 'harmless' because he's a visionless human. To the average person, they would be most scared of the heir of time or the wind tyrant rather than the usurper of the skies. A foolish mistake really

Hi hello hope you're well! Could you possibly tell me more about your nano wip Pirates? 👀

yes!! i could!!

well, firstly, as you can see, i don't have a title for it...so that's why it's just called 'pirates' for now. this wip is set in a fantasy universe where the earth, sea, and sky were created from the bodies of the great gods (not as gruesome as it sounds, but i love a good sacrifice/creation by dismemberment cosmogony. thank you mythology literature class i took over the summer). magic is therefore insinuated into nature itself; some are born with the ability to access it, while some can't (i.e some people have magic, some are Just Normal).

now, these great gods each have a Heart that was/is basically their magical core. whoever possesses these Hearts will have infinite power, etc; you know, the usual. there are two Hearts considered to be hidden in the actual world, the Stone Heart and the Star Heart. the Stone Heart is split into four pieces, presumably, two of which are with the overarching religious organization of the world, the All Seas Assembly (ASA), and the other two which are lost. the Star Heart has never been seen/found, and is the end goal of one of the wip's main protagonists, arete. arete's mother was a famous pirate on the quest to find the Star Heart, which she ultimately failed at. before passing, she magically imprinted a map onto arete's skin that would lead her to the Star Heart.

arete is ten when her mom dies, and manages to escape the destruction of their ship by being sent out to sea. she ends up on the island of caelus, near the village of kynohue, where akane lives with her mother. akane is our other protagonist, despite the fact that she'll be missing from much of the actual story. her father was killed by pirates after standing up to a crew who attacked their village, and so akane's life has not been great lately either. kynohue is now a tributary village that has to pay to the pirates monthly/quarterly in order to live.

the story as i conceptualize it now has at least two arcs. well, technically three if you count the pre-actual written story arc involving arete's mother, iriyin. the arc i'm working on for nanowrimo is an arc that covers arete and akane's life together in kynohue (with akane's mother, emi), which lasts for around five years (it won't be entirely sequential; there's mostly the beginning, scattered scenes showing growth and the passage of time, and then the end, but i'm still at the beginning if that makes sense). after those five years, when arete is fifteen and akane fourteen, they get separated after the village is attacked by the pirates, though not before making a promise to meet again one day.

after that, there's a six year time skip, and the story will pick up again with arete, now twenty-one, truly beginning to build her crew. her end goal has always been fulfilling her mother's wishes (which she is magically obliged to as well) and finding the Star Heart, but there's of course a lot of ocean to explore and other side routes to take before them. she's also waiting to reunite with akane as well; the two have no idea where the other is in the world, or if they're even alive. i've got a ton of cool characters in planning stages for their actual crew (a deaf swordsman, a miracle doctor, a navigator with a perfect sense of direction on a quest to find her brother, assassins, etc), but for nano i decided to focus on the first arc because that's what is solid in my head. not sure how much will actually make it into the main wip, but it's been ok so far.

random dimiclaude thought but

one day dimi isn’t feeling well so he’s resting. claude brings him something (food, water, a book, whatever it is) so dimi won’t have to get up. when dimi takes it he’s like “oh thank you sweetheart” and claude just becomes an absolute puddle bc he has completely melted bc he’s not used to be calling such loving names. he wants to respond and be like “yeah no worries:)” but he is completely malfunctioning bc he was just called a very nice name; he was called sweetheart.

his happy little heart vibrating in joy, he keeps doing things for dimi bc he gets called all these sweet precious names and he’s like ZOOM ZOOOOOOM bc it has given him extra energy and motivation.

when dimi asks why he’s doing so much he gets all fidgety like “well um you call me nice things and i realized i rly appreciate that and it makes me happy >.>” and dimi is like “aw honey you don’t have to do anything for me for me to call you those things, you’re my beloved sweetheart even without those things :)” and claude utterly melts again.

he has never gotten so many nice names associated with himself in his entire life but now a ton of them have all happened in a very short span of time and he’s like a kid going to build-a-bear on their birthday.

hi i somehow survived philly weekend after incredibly stressful travel days and being an emotional disaster (in the best way possible) but just. goddamn fam

will yell when im not sleep deprived as fuck (and yell about the other shows this summer cause im the worst) but this was an incredibly wonderful time. will hold this weekend very close to me for a long time ~

i think it's a pretty firm testament to how desensitized to tornadoes i am, just how much of an impact that hailstorm had on me. i've had tornadoes hit my house before. had them level neighbors' houses but not mine. but that 95 hailstorm? no really it's bewildering the hell out of me that there were zero confirmed touchdowns that night. i have it ingrained in me that tornadoes and hail go hand in hand. it's so common for one to come with the other that i mentally think they're a matched set.

the tornadoes themselves don't scare me.
