Wish

Okay, so yesterday, as per my tradition on Black Friday, I went to see Wish. I typically try to avoid spoilers or reviews before seeing the movie myself, but that was kind of difficult this time because people seem to have a lot of strong opinions about this movie.

I don't think my opinions are that strong, but I do have them.

Spoilers below

Firstly, I would like to say that my cousin took her eight-year-old to see the movie, as well. I live in New York and they live in Texas, so we couldn't see it together. My little cousin (the 8yo) loved it. She loves animals, so the part where all the animals start speaking was the best part for her. She also really liked all the characters and all the bright colors. So it gets her stamp of approval, which is - to me - probably the most important part. Because this IS a movie for kids. The kids that surrounded my friend and I in the theater also seemed to like it.

So there's that.

Secondly, I didn't hate the movie. The storyline was solid. It had the classic Disney formula of "character wants something. character encounters a problem. character tries to fix problem. everything gets worse. character calls on friends to help. antagonist finds temporary victory. character and friends come together to defeat antagonist. happily ever after" that most kids' movies have.

I honestly don't think that it was "miscast" exactly, but they could have chosen different actors and it might have been more enjoyable. I do like Ariana DeBose and Chris Pine and I believe they did a decent job. Ariana is a Broadway girl and an Oscar winner for a movie musical, so obviously she can sing. Chris Pine has a good, solid voice, BUT the music in this movie was lacking. I agree with that criticism. I am not sure where they went wrong, but I am certain that it is more the company's fault than the people who wrote the music. The composers can only do so much when Disney is bossing them around. I think there also may have been an issue at my movie theater because the voices were so low that my hearing impaired ass was STRUGGLING to make out what they were saying half the time (did anybody else experience this?), but my cousin said she could hear everything just fine. idk.

I feel like this movie was made solely to make as many references to other Disney movies as they possibly could. Like they had Peter Pan, Asha is obviously Cinderella's Fairy Godmother, the goat speaks about making Zootopia, the king becomes the Mirror on the Wall, and Asha's friends are LITERALLY the seven dwarves. There are probably a lot more references that I didn't catch (because I couldn't hear SHIT), but this felt like a money grab.

And it was short! It was the standard 90 minute Disney movie, but DAMN. There was no short before the movie, which I found odd, and there was very little action. The musical numbers seemed out of place and more like those parodies of musicals where somebody will be speaking normally and then the next person just randomly starts singing. Like in the Central Park scene in Enchanted, but without the comedy of Patrick Dempsey's WTF face.

One thing I really enjoyed, however, was Star. The star was THE BEST CHARACTER in the entire movie. It had no lines, but it had a ton of personality, and it was fucking FUNNY. All it wanted to do throughout the movie was grant wishes and/or set them free for the people who made them. It hated the king, for obvious reasons, and how he wanted to possess all the wishes and keep them for his own selfish reasons. That star was one of the redeeming factors of the movie, but it couldn't have made that much of a different in the grand scheme of things, unfortunately. The movie still just...fell flat.

The king was also an interesting character (I cannot recall his name, nor do I care about him in the very least). He, like most major Disney villains, was a narcissistic asshole. He feeds the kingdom a story about wanting to grant their wishes and make them all happy, but he will not grant wishes if there's even the remote possibility of himself getting dethroned. There's a plot line in the movie about Asha's grandfather (who is 100yo btw) wanting to finally get his wish granted and when she asks him if that can happen, he looks at the wish (gramps playing guitar to a group of people, wishing to "inspire the next generation") and says that it's too dangerous because "what does he want to inspire them to do? rise up against me?" which is the BIGGEST REACH like???? He's so paranoid about people wanting to dethrone him even though literally everybody loves him and tells him constantly how much they love him until he shows his face in the last half hour of the movie. He even has his wife fooled.

But also, he is like a caricature of a narcissistic villain. He has very few redeeming qualities, if any. We don't have enough specific history from him to know what kind of childhood trauma he's dealing with or what is really driving him. He makes a comment that he 'lost my entire family' but not how or what it has to do with the fact that he's the only one allowed to use magic. He has a dark magic book for some reason, which ultimately leads to his villain arc. He descends into madness so quickly, too. Like one day he is this loving, lovable, generous king and then LITERALLY IN LESS THAN 24HR he is evil and consuming all the wishes, like????????? It just moves so quickly. I don't understand it.

Usually, the villains we see in Disney movies are already obviously evil, even when they're trying to hide it. Hans is one of the exceptions, but this king wasn't like Hans. They show us in the previews and the promotional material for the movie that this king is going to be evil. I feel like if we got a Hans-like reveal, then it would hold a lot more punch. But I guess that's the one reference Disney was unwilling to make because then they couldn't have shown off their sub-par, catchy villain tune. It's a shame, really.

Lastly, I am not against Asha being revealed as the "Fairy Godmother" because honestly that would have been a cool reference...if that was the only reference they made. But, like I said, they just did too much with this film. The end sequence even looks like the beginning sequence of all Disney films since Cinderella (with the arch going over the castle and all the fireworks.)

I was really excited when this film was first announced because I love Ariana DeBose and I was excited for another Latina princess (even though she and Mirabel are not technically princesses) to have her own movie, but it just fell so flat.

A lot of people have blamed Lin-Manuel Miranda for the pop music, but he had no part in this film. If he had, maybe the music would have at least been more....seasoned? idk

I give this movie a 4/10 overall. Disappointing, but not entirely bad.

eight go rush thoughts

me, trying to make sense of the rush duel timeline: wtf is this shit

long post and spoiler(duh) warning

okay. first of all, the creator is otes.

ik this is very obvious, but think about it. the creator could be the gr counterpart/ancestor of otes. they have the same voice obviously but that doesn't help us distinguish the difference. otes' theme(the resting place of the king of duels or something idk) plays during the creator scene we all know from ep 51- something that doesn't happen with the counterparts of gr. imma keep explaining this later.

second, making sense of the time travel shenanigans.

obviously, yuuga leaves with otes into the hyperspace at ep 92 of sevens, going back in time(supposedly, otes survives). somehow, otes arrives much earlier than yuuga, becomes ZA CREATOR, and creates the velgearians, starting the war. yuuga then arrives and gets captured by zwijo, who already knows of the karutamata stuff. he then establishes rush duels with the help of yuuna and asaka and works at goha company. this all happens about 2 years before the main story of gr starts.

third, rush duels will disappear at the end of gr.

assuming that the rush duel robot came into the atmosphere roughly unharmed, it's either on the moon rn or somehow stored somewhere by yuuga to power the rush duels happening during gr. so, when yuuga inevitably leaves the time of gr and takes the rush duel robot with him, rush duels will disappear- like the sevens ending, not including the part where yuuga comes back to the sevens time period. if yuuga builds another robot, though, that's a different story.

fourth, also tying into the second one, is gr connecting into sevens stuff.

hypothetically, there once was an 'old gr'- one that led to sevens as it was supposed to, one without aliens and rush duels. once yuuga and otes took off into hyperspace and were sent back in time to old gr, they changed it to the gr we have today. if yuuga and otes were taken out of the equation, then there would be no aliens and no rush duels and the cast of gr(sans the aliens, obviously) would progress their lives normally like non-anime characters.

fifth, yuudias might permadie or tempdie at the end of gr.

everyone knows the legend of the sevens- and its unnamed gr counterpart. instead of the king of duels, the prophecy mentions becoming a 'light for the universe'. this hints at yuudias pulling a yuuga and sacrificing himself to beat whoever the final antagonist is. because bridge era prophecies are shown to eventually be true(see: legend of the sevens, sevens ep 92) and the fact the two legends are very similar and likely to both be created by otes, yuudias' fate is probably going to be similar to yuuga's at the end of sevens.

sixth, ygo 9.

ygo 9 might be what would happen in the future of new gr, as old gr was already eradicated by the time travelers from sevens. solid vision and rush duels were created before they were supposed to be, and will cause major mishaps in the timeline- unless they do the thing. since it is highly likely that they will do a rush duel trilogy, the protag might be the descendant of a sevens character, if the bloodlines weren't disrupted too hard by the time travel shenanigans.

seventh, the thing.

the yuugotes theory. yes, you heard me right. the yuugotes theory. where they murder yuuga's personality and create a stable timeloop somehow with yuuga becoming the next otes. the procedure is unclear, but it likely includes yuuga going back in time(via another hyperspace. he might've researched 'em or something) when he's an adult(after old otes dies somehow. maybe in the fight with yuudias. can't have two otes running around the timeline) and trying to fix otes' mistakes by doing it himself, but ultimately failing and unwittingly continuing the long loop of the rush duel continuation. this also explains why otes has a strong sense of foresight- as he already knows what's going to happen. i found some proof for this actually)

these images and this tweet by the translator of entamesubs (here: https://twitter.com/octomaidly/status/1455019365351440390) very much foreshadow this. while it definitely seems like a red herring, there wasn't like nine characters that went "oh, otes must be a time-travelled yuuga!" like the goha yuuga situation.

eighth, the legend of the sevens and the book of sevens

we all know how the legend goes- "on the night of a large and hardly recognizable full moon, a duelist will carve an unknown path and become the king of duels." and also the gr version- "on the night of a large and hardly recognizable celestial body of earth, a warrior shall carve open an unknown path with rush duels and become a light for the universe." and i'm pretty sure the book of sevens goes something like this: a young sorcerer with the power of the sevens gets sent by a wise old man to seek out the other six with the same power. the story ends with "the young sorcerer... shed tears as he destroyed the moon." and was almost true in the final duel against otes- if yuuga hadn't played the trap card perfect sevens. this might play a role in gr as it didn't happen in sevens. the beginning part happened, yuuga leaving behind his friends happened- just not the destroying of the moon.

(also, when rewatching ep 91-92 of sevens, i found something- how tf did yuuga ✨(sevens) magic(ally)✨ change from his spacesuit to his normal clothes after the infamous road scene- i mean, it makes sense for that scene and that scene only, but not for afterward. also, yuuga didn't attack otes yet before going into the hyperspace- sure, it's implied, but not shown. additionally, yuuga's friends probably didn't see his win against otes)

don't think about all this too much- don't get a headache like me :)

One: hes so soft 🥺 and just the way minho takes care of mc is so soft and so HIM. and the descriptions of loss? it feels so real like I’m feeling that pain too. and i now dislike mark i dunno why we broke up but mark you are a terrible person. (not all marks are bad i hope) also minho teasing?? i would laugh like right there too. so sweet. im not ok. i want a minho of my own.

Two: again emotions? so real? they feel so perfect and they are so descriptive and i just feel them like my own (im running outta words its too good). minho being nice and just absolutely changing the course of the convo and he really somehow manages to do it (i could never) and the teasing? god this reminds me of my friends and minho sharing his food im going to die rn please. this soft fluff. atp idc if they get together this is so good. and minho peeling the shrimpies? pour moi? i think im in love. also taylor swift heartbreak music? wonderful.

Three: AGAIN the intros to each section are so gooooood???? i feel everything, its just so well written. and minho just dragging me to grocery store bcs im sulking like an idiot and letting me buy junk food??? and minho making me fooooooood???????? im in love and i want to eat the food. seafood pasta sounds so good rn. i wanna eat it so badly. and minho’s care is so him. you don’t notice until you do and once u notice you cant help but not see it everywhere.

Four: minho getting upset about me not listening to him when id probably stare into his eyes and forget what he said. but then again im sobbing after a breakup so that also makes sense. and seungmin being at the bottom of minhos tierlist is so real, the ones at the bottom are the ones he cares for the most (only saying this bcs divorced couple is my bias line)

Five: I need to stop because imma end up writing a 20k essay about how good this was so……

Six: I love besties to lovers and childhood friends to lovers and enemies to lovers because it involves deeply knowing someone, all of their flaws too (yes this applies to enemies to lovers, they gotta know howta tick the other off ofc) and just loving them regardless. Minho loving mc despite her throwing up after alcohol or leaving chips crumbs on the couch is just so sweet. (and in my brain, if someone saw me like that i wouldn’t believe they’d love me but i love my friends so much for all the dumb shit they do so….)

okay guys science today was rlly fun heres what I learnt bc I need to type I out to remember it so y'all have to deal with that >:)

(disclaimer: this is year ten science they don't tell us everything and it's quite tragic so some of this might be wrong. also my memory is a bitch. and plus, this is so much can remember shit so. yeah :P)

so we're doing chemistry rn and looking at atoms and ions and elements bc chemistry, and you've got three particle? thingies and they're electrons, neutrons, and protons. protons positive, electrons negative, neutrons neutral. nucleus is the centre of something bc it literally means centre

side note, alchemy set science back a crapton bc ppl saw "scientists" going like, hmmm yes elixir of life and lead into gold. how shall I achieve this? and ppl were like wtf are scientists okay

anyway. in the periodic table, the atomic number is generally top left, atomic mass number is below the letters, which will be a shortening of the elements name. examples are H for Hydrogen and Au for Gold (Aurun in Latin. that's why so many shortenings of the elements don't look like their elements name - they're in another language but we (my school vghvjdf) use the English terms)

atomic number = the number of electrons, which then equals protons bc negative must have positives balancing it out, yknow? neutrons are found by taking the atomic number (number of protons/electrons) away from the atomic mass

then you've got the structure of an atom! which is basically protons + neutrons in the nucleus, with the electrons "orbiting" them in their shells.

the electron shells hold the electrons around the nucleus. the first shell holds up to two electrons (1 electrons means uve got Hydrogen, two means you've got helium), the second up to eight (but you've gotta fill the first up fully before you can move to the next)(the eight are uhhh lithium, beryllium, boron, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, fluorine and neon) then the third eight again (sodium, magnesium, aluminium, silicon, phosphorus, sulfur, chlorine, and argon) and then it changes again I think, but we only went up to the third shell

oh, and the way you write the electrons is with, for example uhhh silicon, you'd go 2, 8, 4 bc that's that's order they're in (bc first shell holds two, second holds eight, third holds four.)

and then you have ions! ion is pronounced quite similarly to iron, because we've dropped the r from iron. pronounce it with a hard r, like in irony. it's basically that. anyway, ions are what happen when electrons do funky shit.

look, so an atom wants its shell(s) to be full, yes? bc like, completeness. idk bro. so if it's like, for example, fluorine which has only 7 electrons in a shell that can hold, and therefore wants, eight electrons. and its reactive (an alkali I think) because it wants to have all full shells, and therefore it has to "steal" another electron (it could lose seven, but that's rare af)

whereas atoms with less than 4 electrons (bc four is weird, it's right in the middle. 1, 2, 3 all go down (usually), 5, 6, 7 all go up (usually), 4 is fucking annoying) will all, in most likelihood, lose electrons to get full shells.

now, when a shell loses or gains electrons, the atomic becomes an ion! an ion basically means an atom with a charge.

atoms don't have charges, as such. this is because the protons and electrons balance each other out, and the neutrons are neutral and therefore don't affect the equation (or maybe they do, idk yet they don't teach us that stuff until later)

so with something like Boron (B) with the atomic number 5 (which is all I care abt rn), it has 2, 3 electrons per shell. but if it becomes an ion, it will "lose" those three electrons that don't make up a full shell (most of the time!) which means that now when you try to balance the electrons & protons, instead of it being 5 protons minus 5 electrons, it's 5 protons minus 2 electrons.

that results in an ion! because now the atom is positively charged, since there are less electrons then protons. this would be written as B3+ (bc 3 positives aren't balanced out) *the 3+ would be in superscript not subscript but. tumblr.*

and so the noble gases (which are like. either very or mostly stable depending on how far down u go) are non-reactive because they all have full shells. halogens and alkalis are really fucking reactive because they're really close to either only needing to lose one electron to have a full shell, or gaining one to have a full shell and therefore wanna react.

an oxygen ion is called oxide, the -ide suffix being used when something gains electrons. -ate is the suffix used when it loses atoms.

Apparently someone in my class is sh, idk if they think it's me or someone else. I'm deeply terrifed that they will found out, especially my mom. I'm shaking and I have no idea wtf to do

I'm not totally sure I understand the situation here. My read of the situation is that you're someone who self harms, and you're afraid that your mom is going to find out because your school believes that someone in your class is self harming. If that's the case, I actually think it might be a good idea to tell someone you're struggling, whether that person is your teacher, your mom, or a school counsellor. Self-harm is a way that people cope with strong emotions like anger, sadness, rejection, loneliness, irritability, anxiety, stress, pressure, and depression. And it's understandable that people do self-harm - it's a quick way to relieve the distress you're feeling and to stimulate endorphins in the moment. But it's not a healthy way to cope with these emotions, and it's not the only way to cope with those emotions. Your mom or a teacher can help you connect with a counsellor or a therapist who can help identify why you're self-harming, what triggers the self-harming, and help you find healthier ways to cope with those triggers.

If you're sure you can't talk to an adult about this issue, there are some techniques you can try when you're feeling the desire to self-harm:

call, message, or text a crisis line, such as the Self-Harm Crisis Text Line. They can help you process the emotion that you're feeling and and find coping mechanisms that work for you.

delay self harm- tell yourself, "I'm going to wait fifteen minutes, and then if I still want to self-harm, I will". In the meantime, use distraction techniques, such as calling a friend or going on a walk. If you can, keep delaying the time when you'll let yourself engage in self-harm. write down how you're feeling and then rip it up or burn it.

ask yourself questions like, "why do I feel I need to hurt myself?", "what has happened to make me feel like this?", "have I been here before? What did I do to deal with it? How did I feel then?", "what else has made me feel better before?", "what else can I do that won't hurt me?", "will this problem/this feeling matter in five hours? Five days? Five weeks? Five months? Five years?". You can write down the answers to these questions and then rip them up or burn them, if you find that that helps.

do something nice for someone else.

punch a punching bag or kick something soft.

do physical exercise, such as push-ups or running in place.

bite into something with a kick, such as ginger or chili.

squeeze an ice cube as hard as you can, or take a cold shower.

If you do continue to self harm:

opt for techniques that don't break the skin, such as snapping an elastic band on your wrist

remove objects that might cause you harm from your space

make sure that anything you cut yourself with is clean

avoid cutting areas such as the insides of wrists or tops of legs

make sure you're up to date with your tetanus shot

don't self-harm on areas that have a lot of scars

learn first aid and keep fist aid supplies, such as antiseptic wipes and bandages, nearby

I had a lot of good times with that one. All I did was take screenshots and post shitty commentary that people seemed to think was funny enough to make demotivational posters out of. I made a lot of girls gay for Lightning. Including myself. But then I found out I was just Gay All Along. I met RainbowSerenity, who ran the Fang blog.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE YOUR URL: chaoticrice is a username I made in highschool inspired by the character alignment Chaotic Good. Even though I myself am more in between lawful and neutral. But I was obsessed with Mello from Death Note at the time who is chaotic good.

DREAM TRIP: DMT  Ummmm a trip to where I was born would be nice (Spokane), or maybe England or Scotland. I should probably go to the Philippines cause I feel guilty for never going to see where my mom is from…
