Theitsa, I had the misfrotune of stubling onto r/hellenism recently, and wow they really hate Greeks! But why then worship a HELLENIC religion that sprung out of the conciousness of HELLENES, that are indigenous to HELLAS? Its dumbfounding. Anyone can believe what they they feel is right to them, but why venerate a Greek religion when you clearly dont like Greece or Greeks?

I am sure most of these LARPers only got into Greek religion through western pop culture, quite shallow. Just like most people that venerate the Norse gods got into it through Marvel movies and the like lol I bet if it was Mongolian spiritualty and religion that was in popular media, they would worship that instead. Besides, I dont see many people lament, cry, piss and shit over Swedes not being polytheistic anymore. Why is that?

And you KNOW that the only reason they feel so entitled to Greek culture is becase of the long history of the west appropriating it and glorifying Classical Greece (Athens), but they try so hard to justify it.

I wish westerners would understand that trying to separate Greeks from their heritage and history will not make their anglo asses any closer to or more connected to Greek history and culture. They should accept their own heritage and embrace it.

When I saw r/hellenism I knew what was coming 😭 Not to say that everyone there is horrible but I've been avoiding this subreddit because this behaviour was prevalent. What was discussed there felt so out of touch with "worship" and it was a bit more like LARPing. It sad that it hasn't changed yet.

Amai’s Week

I didn’t even know until today that Amai had a week, that’s how hard this game fell off. Anyway, boy do I have some criticisms.

1) We need that many ways to enter a building in a mission? Why? It ends the same no matter what. The mission is still linear.

2) The dialogue in this game is so stiff and not how people talk. Never played a Hitman mission where the target said “I’m going to be here at X time, doing Y thing, blah blah blah” but Amai is kind enough to specify the times she’ll be serving food. Yeah, it’s kind of intuitive to not exit the classroom and start serving octodogs, the cooking club should know it’ll only be at morning, lunch and after school.

3) Amai’s sabotage events are so silly. I remember jokingly thinking “what? are we going to be giving him a pink apron or something?” as a JOKE. And then it HAPPENED, essentially. These characters are meant to be adults LARPing as teenagers but even a teenager has more maturity than “oh, you made an apron I didn’t like!” What? Did Ayano draw a swastika on it or another hate symbol? The game refers to it as a ‘lame’ apron, which implies it’s more likely that Ayano used a bland colour scheme. I’m sorry, but “I wanted a black apron but you made me a pink one, that offends me” is not on the same level. And by the way- if Amai’s food is giving people food poisoning due to Ayano’s sabotage, why is she still allowed to run the bake sale???

I was genuinely thinking “surely, it’s more going in this direction” during the picnic talk. It was. So, what? Amai is supposed to control the insects?

If you sabotage all of Amai’s events, Senpai should get the sense that she’s a BAD COOK. Literally all. Her sabotage events are NOT enough to warrant being cut off or rejected.

4) I like how no one in this game questions a giant ass water fountain placed randomly in a room.

5) THE LOVE CONFESSION DOESN’T MAKE AMAI LOOK GOOD, EITHER. Who the FUCK says “yeah, I know I’ve known you for a week, but I was actually pissed at you for mourning your dead friend because… what about me???”

OKAY, TO BE FAIR, THAT “MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THAT IN MIND” LINE FROM AYANO GOES HARD ASF 🔥

6) Okay lol I just. I love how funny Kizana is.

I like to imagine Ayano and Senpai are in some Truman Show situation where Info-chan is just hiring all these colourful personalities to rizz Senpai to create the craziest situations ever. Like Ayano is just some institutionalised person who was dragged out by a studio to be exploited in her dire mental state. Can’t wait to get Kizana in 2025 and Oka in 2026.

Look I’m an Amai defender but spitting in someone’s food is VILE. The reason I don’t go to… let’s call it OldRonalds is because three employees spat in my food. I had three occasions. Yeah, wasn’t risking a fourth. AND IT’S IMPLIED SHE DID THIS SEVERAL TIMES. That is NASTY.

7) Yeah I definitely talk to myself when cooking. That’s totally normal.

8) SHE TELEPORTS IMMEDIATELY TO THE FLOOR. ALSO HOW WOULD NO ONE HEAR THAT???

9) A small pet peeve of mine over the years is the line “oh my god! is that a dead body?” when talking about their classmates. Akademi is a small school, where everyone should know each other. Maybe- like “Oh my god! [character’s surname, because it’s Japan, or whatever their nickname is considering Akademi has nicknames]? A-are you okay? I need to get help!”

10) Ben Shoku-ro asks us to essentially stalk Amai. Very normal. See, this is why I headcanon that Akademi is just a mental institution disguised as some… high school LARP. A very ineffective one, too.

11) I like how everyone has the exact same criticism with the exact same wording towards Amai’s cooking.

12) “You shoot 100% of the takes you don’t miss” is such a funny quote. No shit Sherlock.

13) “juvenile delinquent” aren’t they 18? C’mon, if you’re gonna use the “they’re actually 18” excuse, be consistent about it.

14) Welcome to Writing 101. In Inkyu and Sakyu’s conversation on Friday, the pink one (Inkyu, I believe) says “however?” While Inkyu is gathering her thoughts. It doesn’t add tension to the scene, they’re talking about fucking studying. It happens twice, actually. It’s awkward and drags on too long. I’m a writer, not a programmer, but surely there has to be a way to make the dialogue end faster?

Also Horuda canonically drawing kill art is real asf. She is not okay in the head and is expressing her emotions to avoid doing something dangerous. This is what we call showing, not telling. This is something this game struggles at.

15) Wait, Kyuji stalking Osana is a bounty? What if the player match made them? Is the game seriously gonna punish you for doing the pacifist route?

16) Why can Toga walk on bushes???

Okay if Senpai’s new personality is himbo than I kinda fw him.

HELP DID YANDEREDEV FORGET TOGA WASN’T A CREEP SO HAD TO RETCON IT?? Same with Horo, though I think Horo being weird was inferred by the demon Easter egg.

17) Also, another general criticism, but the dialogue in this game is so wonky. Instead of “Hey, blah blah, did you know blah blah dislikes gossip?” It could be “Hey, blah blah, X said to me gossipers were all evil people. Ridiculous, right? Who doesn’t gossip from time to time? Guess that’s what I’m doing” or something shorter than that. And things like money and violence shouldn’t even be discussable topics. I’m sorry but “Hey, Horuda Umetsu, did you know Amai Odayaka dislikes violence” would receive an “okay? don’t we all?” IRL. Like even though Horuda is prone to violence no one’s going around shaming people for disliking it WTF.

(Edit: Btw, before Amai came out, I made my own version of Amai’s week a year ago, along with the other rivals, but honestly? They suck. I’ll add them anyway, if you wanna check them out, but I got lazy halfway through and began half assing stuff: Amai, Kizana, Oka, Asu, Muja, Mida, Osoro, Hanako, Megami. "And some dude named Jeff" Season 4 episode 10

The Jenkins Episode. LOVE IT.

Full disclosure: I am a lifelong DnD nerd. I started with 3.5 back in the 90s. I am this label, this label is me.

It's kind of sad that Dolores gives the cats a sunny upstairs room and Jeff lives in the basement.

...now that I think about it, why does the woman have like 12 cats in one room, that's gotta suck for the cats and everyone involved.

Especially if Desi has pink-eye and Otto needs suppositories. Ew!

I love how the only inaccurate thing about the DnD nerds first scene is that they're rolling the dice rather haphazardly. Jenkins throws a d20 and a d12 (I think) at the same time...different sided dice throws are not a thing. Multiples of the same kind of dice, yes, especially to calculate the damage of a hit.

And Jenkins tosses the dice AT the figures on the map/table. Yeah, no. A dice tower would probably be employed with that small a table, but I get how that would be less visually exciting/take up too much screen time.

The DnD nerds were DEFINITELY in on Jeff's switcheroo plan. We hear them talking about it when Jenkins comes down the stairs. They were totally expecting a different person inside Jeff. The way they set Jenkins up to reveal himself shows some LARPing skill in my opinion. I've LARPed, it's just costumed improve with stricter rules lol.

I'm less sure Dolores/Jeff's mother knew about the switcheroo. (I called her Gloria in one of my stories, I need to fix that.)

The Jeff buttslapping Jacob scene. And the awkward aftermath. *Chef Kiss*

Oh look, they've all got costumes. Shocked, I'm shocked. Definitely LARPers. But...why would they wear that stuff to break into the Library? How did Jenkins present this to them? "Think of it as a live dungeon crawl"? Okay, then I'mma gonna concentrate on supplies and some kind of knife, a first aid kit, a shield, maybe some rope...not a cape, a head dress, and fishnet stockings.

I would have loved to see a version of this with the actors switched--John Larroquette acting like Jeff-inside-Jenkins ("how about we...make some magic..."), Andrew Caldwell playing Jenkins-inside-Jeff ("would you please stop setting off booby traps!")

It's really sad how few lines Ezekiel has.

Personal head canon: Ezekiel did some of the stuff Jeff is doing. Only, you know, he hid it better and was a bit cooler about it. We've seen Ezekiel use Munchausen's Top, the Spinning Wheel of Clothos, and have the attitude that 'rubbing up against anything magicky' can be a solution to rescuing Eve and Flynn in that one movie episode so yes. This carefree attitude towards power is why Jenkins worries about him.

The "gimme that boom" scene. C'mon Jenkins get more into it lol.

The Library teaching Jenkins about the best aspects of himself through the analogs of the new librarians. Cleverness from Schmidt/Ezekiel, Joy from Aurora/Cassandra, Persistence from Dennis/Jacob.

The knighting. Beautiful. Also getting the innocents out of the way before something truly dangerous?

"You think that was bad?! Wait 'til I get hold of you!!"

The little speech Jenkins gives to Jeff "what's the point of having a life if one does not live it fully," was so incredibly pertinent and needed when I was in a low place that I named my long-form fic after it. I should get back to writing that.

Jenkins' potion needs a jolt of magic to make it work. Noted!

What the heck were Dolores and Asmodeus doing while Jenkins and Jeff were scuttling down the stairs and making their way to the basement? Damn, I hope she locked herself in a bathroom or something.

The lightsaber in Jenkins' hands wasn't cut to shreds right away. More Galahad magic?

I very respectfully, tactfully, reasonably addressed the flag issue with my housemates, stated my perspective, was well-received by almost everyone, only for The ACAB Tattoo FTMs shut it down, citing how POC can't hide their marginalization so as a white person I have a responsibility to take on some of the burden & the risk of visibility. So of course with everyones white guilt activated they went Oh, Right! (Love when "minority issues" are nonsensically flattened onto the same plane) I even addressed prior to this that yes I do think it does make a positive impact when other people are able to feel welcome and supported in the neighbourhood by knowing there's other LGBT people but when I come home to a burnt flag vandalized with homophobia waiting for me on the welcome mat, knowing that if I had been home 2 minutes sooner I would have seen it happen, I feel neither welcome nor supported & I dont think that flags & sloganeering come close to being helpful for anyone in the long run especially when the people in the community being advocated for by said flags & slogans are being put at risk by what is supposed to serve as a signifier of solidarity. This isnt solidarity, its asking that we needlessly put ourselves in potential danger for the wellbeing of– who, exactly? They spewed out something about how my "trauma response" is "valid" (flase virtue moment! Reducing the issue to aesthetic representations of Freedom while depriving the people it represents of anything resembling such a thing!) but we have a "responsibility" to be "visibly queer". As if I have not primarily moved through the world as such. As if the times I have been stealth werent predicated upon a lifetime of ostracization harassment and outright abuse for being a gender nonconforming female & a homosexual one at that. I dont wallow in it but come on! What does any of this do for anyone! Good Feels dont pay the rent or provide legal protections. But of course people like these housemates of mine think legal protections = assimilationist & society needs to be burned to the ground & the average working class person is too problematic to be saved so lets just kill everyone but also we were put on this earth to love one another lol OK why dont you start first by showing you posess the capacity to be considerate about the people within your own household? This whole activist larp is such an obvious ego thing... Come on. Even thinking outside of my own desire for dignity how is anyone Im supposed to be useful to others in any way if they're busy dealing with being harassed? How could I ever hope to "help the LGBT community"– since that's apparently all that matters god forbid a female lead ones own life without being a martyr one way or a fucking other– in the long run, if in the short-term I cant just go home & not have to worry about my roommates doing something stupid like gluing shards of glass to the back of the new flag which will only serve to further anger people intent on harassing us, potentially escalating the situation?

LARP episodes should be boring. This episode wasn't boring to me. It kind of got burned with repetition but it's an okay episode.

Obligatory "I hate that they've never done a Halloween episode" comment. Or Christmas. Or really anything aside from a Mardi Gras episode, which... You're not New Orleans or Rio de Janeiro, okay? Why would you choose Mardi Gras instead of Halloween, and for a creepy serial killer episode too? Never mind, I'll expand when we get to S04E15.

We're already past the point where Charlie should wonder, "Why am I getting all these weird cases all of a sudden?"

First of all, here's the 3,000 words analysis/blog thing I wrote last year when I first finished it.

One and a half years later, I still largely agree with it! There's some headcanons I wrote in there that I completely forgot about, lol, so I'm glad past me posted it somewhere for current me to relieve it again! (The rants were also kind of funny to re-read too)

Next, headcanons!

Lately, I found myself wondering about Yuto and Yuri's outfits; specifically-

...Why are they walking around Maiami with dramatic red/black capes?

After some time in the kitchen, I decided that when Yuya was younger, he was really into good versus evil roles when rehearsing his dueltainment lines. And who else better to serve as his practice opponents than his two brothers who aren't off busy making rounds at the stadium on a D-Wheel?

Tying his own fluffy, white towel around his shoulders, Yuya throws a nearby black blanket to Yuto. The oldest is initially a little embarrassed about the notion, but no one can ever say no to the baby of the Sakaki family, can they? (He'll just have to live the shame down from the twins later on... They barely even respect him as they are right now, anyway) In the middle of the duel, Yuri walks in onto the two of them after having finished his homework (or tweaking his deck). He raises an eyebrow at Yuto's appearance, but gets the gist of the situation when he sees their duel disks activated and Yuya standing on top of the sofa in a similar attire. As Yuto steals Yuya's schtick and becomes a tomato, Yuri pouts about being left out and quickly leaves to hunt for something that will allow him to join the fun. When the duel ends, Yuto passes the baton to Yuri. As he watches the two rattle off silly, goofy lines like, I will destroy the planet, the universe, all the worlds! and, Never! I'll stop you, fiend!, Yuto sighs in relief. At least Yuya now has Yuri to LARP with. Maybe Yugo would volunteer too, once he returned from driving practice and hears about it. Though, he'd likely ask to play the part of the hero himself. Anyway, Yuto's already almost in middle school; he's getting a little too old to play with costumes now. Then afterwards, at dinner, with an angelic smile Yuya says, "Yuuto, can we play like that again sometime? You look so cool with a cape!"

Yuri on the other hand, always had a tendency for the melodramatic, his own personal spin of the theatrics he's seen from his dad! Deep down he really loves playing the villain.

(This was meant to be a short description but I couldn't help putting some fic-like sentences in there tehe also yes that's a reference to the conversation between Yuya and G.O.D./Eve)

(warning: angst ahead)

Another headcanon I have that I want to write/draw something for is that in the postcanon where Reiji, Yuya, Isaac and Ren travel through space and time together, Yuya has moments where he falters to his grief.

He's used to his brothers commenting and nagging him on almost anything and everything (A midnight snack? Think about your complexion, Yuya!) and his world is suddenly a lot more quiet. In his hurt, he starts to avoid Ren, not wanting to be reminded of what he's lost (He doesn't feel good about it).

Eventually Reiji intervenes and Yuya opens up a little. He's been unable to properly let himself grief for his brothers. All he wants to say is that he misses them.

But he doesn't feel like he has the right to do so, having being the one to seal their fates by personally destroying the one method of bringing them back to life. He doesn't regret his decision of course, but he's unable to stop himself from feeling this way too.

It has a happy ending; Reiji convinces Yuya to talk to Ren. Yuya shares stories about Yugo at Ren's request, making the both of them laugh. Yuya realises that there are other methods of bringing back people to life, too, even if only momentarily.

But it is enough.

Misc hcs:

Yuya's charisma and attitude is a combination of his three brothers fawning over his cuteness from birth and Yuya being so star-struck with Yusho's performances he attempted to replicate the movements ever since he could walk.

Being the oldest, Yuto feels a sense of responsibility for his brothers and pledged to take care of them in place of his always-missing parents. However, he oft times finds himself not having to do much because Yugo and Yuri are so determined to win over Yuya's heart (and be proclaimed 'favourite brother') that they also make sure to set a good example for the youngest when possible. This causes Yuto a little bit of an identity crisis (/j it's just for fun) until he settles into his role as the househusband cook.

"All of us... are connected by... the arc of destiny!"

Reiji and Yuya are supposed to be silhouetted by their fathers, so Yuzu is meant to seem like she's looking at Yuya, but is in fact looking at Yusho. I also think VJ Yuto should be allowed to smile more!

This drawing is meant to be my love letter to the manga as a whole, and ESPECIALLY the last duel between Reiji and Yuya. I talked about it a whole ton in the review linked above already, so go check that out if you haven't!!

I was really happy with the composition when I first made this, especially with Sora/Ren/Isaac Versus the Yus mirroring their duels! (Well, okay, I know Isaac didn't duel Yuto but.... just give this to me)

Anyway I really wanted a fun and positive energy for it! Every month I think about returning to this but I get slightly demotivated when I realise I have *zero* colour references for both Ren and Isaac... Please send in your headcanons...

Last but not least, last month I got brain worms for another animatic/hand-drawn MV for Eve's Fight Song! I'll never ever have to time to go back to it, but I wanted to take the chance to talk about other songs that make me ill when I think about them with the manga.

Not just the chorus, but the ENTIRE SONG (pleeeease go take a look at the lyrics) feels like it's made for the manga please please go take a look

2. MYTH & ROID - -to the future days

This is a fun one, when I watched the PV and in the chorus Lum was spinning I instantly went wow what if that was Phantom.. and then the lyrics bared their claws and sunk them into my brain and hasn't really let go since

Unlike the above two songs, not all of the lyrics are a perfect match, of course, but I adore how in general the whimsical yet lonely nature of the song feels like it fits Phantom so well!

4. Eve - Fight Song

As the night still refuses to end, let’s dream

Last but not least the song I posted the above storyboard for! CSM fans (as well as Eve fans, lol) are probably already familiar with the song, and full lyrics here, though like the song above, only parts of the song (particularly the chorus) really resonated with the vj brainworms in my head lol Even for me, y’know Let’s make a break for the future Towards the verge of death like we pray for A boy that gave his word Today, just like back then As if there’s no more future ahead

basically larp cast is doing betty’s final death p fucking wrong by giving her the ol’ oh she’ll just disappear and die off screen you don’t get to choose if it’s public or not because GM makes final decision even though you’re v emotionally attached to your own character that we’re going to kill and nearly the entire population of the town is fighting for her to stay alive and out of game everyone wants her to have a last hurrah for everyone’s closure but nah GM said no and didn’t really give me a reason why he’s not willing to work anything out w me whatsoever concerning Betty’s status

Betty is a very beloved character in larp so of course everyone is PISSED that he’s being stubborn as fuck on a failed situation that has many possible outcomes as opposed to just no fuck you off screen death non-negotiable and people as expected back lashed on him for that and said that’s fucking wrong and you need to actually give dove a valid reason why Betty can’t be redeemed when she technically has done nothing wrong at all except exist as an undead without using her powers whatsoever. that people have offered up rituals to reverse the vampirism in order to keep her alive but are still being denied that grace. that the council had her locked up not as punishment, but for safety reasons, and literally told her that she would be returning to town after all is said and done, but the GM said no fuck that my baron hates undead so she won’t even get a chance to speak, im just killing her. and no one can do shit because he’s the GM.

he’s power trippy as fuck so I’m most likely going to die off screen anyway but hopefully, at the very LEAST, I want a public execution so she can talk to her town one last time and give the baron one last fuck you too for not hearing his citizens’ voices lol. both Betty and I are being silenced and yeah I feel it’s fucking unjustified as hell

For me Gods govern the Universe here and now. So I don't get why many cultores seem to be LARPing. TL;DR: Fuck LARPers; develop your personal cult and thrive.

Idk if you noticed that they exclusively focus on the I century BCE Roman (as in: the city of Rome) civic cult and ignore everything that happened after Augustus's reign or in other parts of the Empire/conquered territories. It's not about religion, it's about the idea of order and grandeur (also why you can find so much crypto-fascist stuff if you read between the lines of what they say or post online and in the bibliographies they suggest).

There's a huge emphasis on reconstructing exactly what they did and 97% of the time these people/groups don't even rely on actual history or archaeology (and some of the bigger groups I saw are led by archaeologists...)*, which is shit because a) we don't know much about it anyway, and b) they're reconstructing stuff from one (1) city in a big ass old Empire. I also saw groups saying "Don't worship gods that are not exclusively Roman because your cult will be confusional and disorganized", which sounds a lot like "The eastern cults will corrupt the Roman Manly Spirit".

Ah btw they have their little silly fake senate with fake names and senators because of the moral superiority of the Roman Spirit vs "the unbalanced energy of this woke modern world". Also, most of them are insecure cishet men, and those in charge of the groups usually choose a god's name as their own to signal that they are Knowledgeable and Chief. Just saying.

You don't have to join Religio just because you add a Roman god to your life. I mean - I'm a Roman polytheist and I'm including (again) Norse and Germanic deities in my personal cultus. It's more about the approach and paradigm rather than the pantheon. You don't have to ask for permission to welcome a deity into your house, nobody can stop you. I know it's not the best answer, but it's true. You shouldn't care about the opinions of people who don't know you. If you prefer the helpol community because it makes you happier or you feel more welcomed that's cool! Choose the people who can give you peace of mind!

I get your frustrations because these are the same issues that estranged me from the community, but at the end of the day, we can do whatever tf we want with our cult. Don't ignore the result you got, ignore the community - or better, ignore the louder side of the community, because I can tell from experience that the majority of us cultores (including the LGBTQIA+ side) don't post online or join these organizations, and we're still thriving lol.

I don't know if my answer helped, but I hope the developments in your practice will be fruitful!

*if I had 1 euro for every cult recon group I personally know that is led by an archaeologist that swore to have the Knowledge of The Ol' TIme and could teach you how to do it exactly because what every other polytheist did was clearly shit I would now have 2 euros, which isn't much but it's fucking alarming. This is also why I don't trust archaeologists in religious circles.

no you're good i figured it wasn't about me specifically i just thought maybe i should elaborate on my perspective. also yes i agree with all of this; i will say the reason i think it could be realistic for them to, like, throw up a donation link on their insta is that it's not something that's related to their personal lives (as in, there's other points of criticism they will never ever talk about because it has to do with their own actions) and they do, occasionally, respond publicly to fans. but i completely understand why that wouldn't really change anything for you and i am sorry that this happened and that you're not able to enjoy them or feel the same connection to them that you once were

also yeah speaking of i did notice that no one has had any heat for andy despite the fact that he's shown up for at least two of the three cobra shows. i think patrick is an easy target rn bc he's the one most visibly involved and everyone is too scared to criticize pete but no one has said anything about andy except to praise him and it's like, i think we're maybe past that point lol. and yeah i do maintain that if he wasn't in a band he would be the world's most annoying accelerationist larping on twt about violent revolution

Maybe I'm too stupid and lowbrow, so the reasons for why I liked Joker 2 will be just prove to others that it is unsophisticared trash.

But I dunno, I just thought it was an interesting movie, like the first one wasnt really about some IP franchise charachter, so this one isnt about some super villian caper plot but about the power of the first movie and it's consequences.

People fell in love with Joker and the whole premise of this being (for the first half) some overly sweet romantic musical, and atleast for me it worked: maybe because I deep down like that lovey dovey stuff of both sides showing love to each other, so one gets seduced by this sacharine imaginary wolrd.

As one got seduced by the bravado and the impotent violence of "Joker", the film and the idea - so there are sequences here where Joker starts acting all bombastically, having daydreams, now not only of song and dance, but of the violence and "retribution" the audience craves.

So then it comes to a shudden shock, when it not only gets revealead that the fangirl lady gaga is literally just some larping fangirl in love with the idea of some killer clown as if she had a tumblr blog about her favorite yuri sadist anime or whatever - but also that the little dwarf, who is framed as pitiable as possible, felt the real effexts of the Joker.

Ofcourse the later could be a very basic "oh no, being violent is le bad" message - and it seems to go that way - but at the same time the tragedy comes there, that when Artur has this realisation, that he "asks for help" like all the theraphy language asks of him, he gets rejected by his fangirl and everybody else - because all that hated him still hate him and his followers dont care about some loser, they only care about the super edgy clown prince or whatever shit people say.

But the problem is that Arthur at best is Raskolnikov, he is a softy that cant fully go above morals and self preservation, his spirit is broken both by society cutting his act short by killing and brutalizing his followers who are "inspired" in this cliche way of "singing to victory", while he is simply brutalised and abused, because in the end nobody can laugh trough the pain, only in cartoons and comics.

One could say that this movie is flawed because it ends without any solution, just a pessimistic outlook of either being abused or lashing out as a response till everything gets repayed in an even more horrific way.

But I think that doesnt make it bad or "demorilization propoganda against us brave chuds" - like I think some ask mentioned the Idiot by Dostojewsky sometime ago, and that book also ends with the protagonist failing in his quest and every outlook leading to tragedy, yet nobody would call it bad for that.

Because as Dostojewsky basically boils down to saying that humanity without love is lost, no matter how banal that sounds, so does this movie.

Yet I know this will probably make you think that the critiques are right lol, but I dunno its hard to put into words, just all the layers of the film on a meta level also proving how the audience doesnt care about the first movie besides as a power fantasy, hence why it is a musical, or it predicting the response of the fans and everyone hating it, or the fact that a guy who previously directed raunchy sex comedies chose to make this movie instead going the easy route of making some plot about joker escaping prison and then terrorizing the town with his minions till he has some ephiphany/gets killed by some batman or whatever lol.

And also it looked pretty to me lol, which may seem insignificant, but after watching that truely garbage and overrated trash "deadpool and wolverine" I could appreciate that - and that movie was truely bad yet the same people praise it, hence why I doubt critics are a good barometer.

That movie truely made me sick of its reddit-esque meta lampshading, while in Joker 2 it was mostly fitting.

I dunno, in the end I'm not saying its some perfect movie or even that "deep" if one is a lot more sophisticated and well read than me, but as a comic book sequel movie I doubt there are a lot more interesting attempts.

(oh also another small meta joke I found funny is the whole implication of the Lady Gaga charachter only using Joker for her own gain, which seems to be what the singer literally did cause nobody cares about her anymore so why not attach yourself to a super succesful itteration of a super succesful franchise? Hell the chuds could have easily said "see this is a critque of women taking from men and then discarding them once they dont need them anymore!")

I still haven't seen it, but I post this for those who may be interested in a review from a reader.

This is going to start as a vent and then transition into me being honestly a little nuts about Bleach filler, but man, this morning I received the FROSTIEST AO3 comment, which was a pretty atrocious way to start a Tuesday. Because I was like, well, I didn't actually need any help feeling bad about myself, I'm good at that on my own, but thanks I guess!! Tuesday morning is just. So early in the day and so early in the week for that.

My traditional response to this is to write more, and put more words between me and whatever thing I wrote before, but today I had meetings scheduled from 7-10:30PM, which meant I'd have to wait until after that to do any running away. But then the meetings ran over, and now I actually just have to write a bunch of meeting-related emails (and this very important post LOL), so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

BUT. Sometime after 9:30 I started to lose my damn mind and ensconced part of myself in one of B3's beloved pastimes, Boring Bleach LARP, and it was a very good time, all is resolved

Because we were talking about political capital and what factors can compel someone to expend it and the general tendency to safeguard it above all else, and I was like, man, considering Hitsugaya appears to have basically no strategy around his political capital, he's doing very well! Because while I think Hitsugaya is successfully strategic in a lot of different avenues, I'd be hard pressed to be convinced that the kind of political capital development/maintenance I'm talking about is on that list. He is constantly involved in random nonsense that almost certainly have more potential political consequences than gains (no one cares if you mount a *successful* defense against the Bount, but it does matter if it goes very poorly and then requires everyone else to also have to get involved. See also: those dinosaur clone arrancar in the Advance Team filler, the amount of meaningless commuting he and Matsumoto did in Movie 1; transporting the King's Seal in Movie 2 (and literally everything else about that movie); running around Rukongai with the 11th in Movie 3; Hell Gate shenanigans in Movie 4; taking care of the 11th during the Bount Arc, etc.) The Gotei seems to have generally pretty low standards as far as what you can get away with and what your reputation can weather (unless Hollowfication is involved), but that is a whole lot of nonsense with no inherent payoff. The most motley resume, the results of most of which were poor to middling! No political strategist in their right mind would advise any of this. (Luckily this is not a job that is appears anyone has ever heard of in the Gotei.)

But basically everyone respects and trusts him! Not just to put in the time and do the work off on his own where they don't have to deal with it. Other captains are out here regularly taking orders from Hitsugaya in Bleach filler. I don't actually think we as an audience have ever witnessed a reason why they should, but they don't seem to have any reservations about it. I'd say it's because none of them have any concept of political strategy either but I think half of them actually do?? And yet. I feel like this is like the one thing Hitsugaya puts zero thought into and ends up reaping huge dividends from, at the same time as a lot of the things he actually works for are doing their damndest to not pay off. Just to spite him, probably.
