The art is lovely and now I'm gonna ramble because that's what I do when I care about something.
For the love of women, please PLEASE can fan artists remember to add muscle to their Shadowhunter ladies? I'll commend Bowater for cleverly giving James that sculpted and lean look without making him a beefcake (nothing against beefcakes, I'd love to hug them), but Cordelia is once again suffering from Arms And Shoulders Too Slender It's Hard To Even Imagine Her Picking Up A Sword. There is some there, yes, but artists shouldn't be afraid of giving particularly Female Main Characters weight and toned muscle. Cordelia is supposed to be nearly the same height as James as far as I can remember, and she's curvy, and full, and she wields a sword like it's second nature to her. Please explain why she looks so tiny in James' lap.
Also I'm pretty sure marriage runes are supposed to go over the heart whenever possible (thinking about Will's parabatai rune being over his heart instead -- he didn't get Tessa to draw over the scar, did he??) and... either I'm looking at the picture wrong or James' rune is not over where his heart should be.
For the matter, where are their other runes and scars?? James' Voyance rune isn't even on his hand. And I'm pretty sure he's right handed. I could have that wrong though.
Another thing: no one can ever decide what Cordelia's hair looks like and it's the funniest thing to me. This is what happens when all you do is vaguely say the colour is like fire but also like rose petals but also a flowing river of those things but also is Red (probably for redhead, but then from there I never understand where the rose petal analogy comes from considering the typical rose is a deep bloody colour -- I do acknowledge the existence of those light orange varieties though which might more closely resemble red hair). In the end, I'm glad readers can infer what they want and imagine the characters how they like.
Anyone else think James looks like he's built like a tennis player? Oddly specific, maybe, but it was a thought I had. Mostly the arms and somewhat narrow body.
James' hair is nice, his eyes are an interesting take on gold in the shadows. Bowater managed to also make him look closely related to his father, so bravo for that.
In the end, the focus is obviously on the marriage runes and not other physical aspects outside of it being clear that this is James and Cordelia. Bowater's style is very beautiful and elegant. Love the way fabric and lighting is done too. I'll add also that it is possible to be a smaller person who is slender but still strong so I mean Cordelia's not necessarily done wrong, I just interpret her appearance differently. Obviously, they're both hot and they're both attractive and I have my qualms with the series, chronicles, and author -- the fandom I am so-so on, though I'm still here, aren't I? And I'm taking the time to ramble about my thoughts on a piece of fanart -- but this is good. Gorgeous, even. Both James and Cordelia are beautiful.
#side note: am I the only one who thought cc made a mistake trying to describe james as handsome in cordelia's eyes#as opposed to matthew being the beautiful one#when there has always been a deep and aching strange beauty to james??#james herondale#cordelia carstairs#vaguely crediting charlie bowater though it isn't like you can't find a dozen more copies of this with the credit#also yes I mercilessly picked this apart because I am still trying to find avenues to express my dissatisfaction with tlh#I search for flaws what else can I say#I am aware of it but it's hard to turn those thoughts processes off#maybe I'll write a post at some point all about the authors I once Loved that I am now deeply critical of#a lot of people would hate me for it but eh#also we all know about the marvelisation of cinema#but is it time to talk about the marvelisation of book series/worlds?#or perhaps it has a better and more book-focused name? the jkr approach? rick riordan's marvel-esque flaw? the sjm plague? the clare affair?#we'll workshop it#maybe it's the curse of middleschool-YA series and the issue of aginh readers in fandoms#and I don't mean this as discriminatory against anyone older in fandom because there is not really a limit nor should there be#for most media#but the issue of when the readers grow up amd authors try to accomodate for that -- not necessarily by making their work more adult --#but by making MORE because there is also an influx of new fans and they want to stay relevant while retaining the old#it's a whole thing though I'd need to sit down to properly organise my thoughts to talk about it

Why are you running a poll about gay disabled characters and allowing headcannons? Why not focus on canon lgbt characters with disabilities?
Sorry for taking so long to respond, but I wanted to wait until after Round One was posted. (Ignore the fact that it is several days after round 1 finished posting, I got busy). ((Extra update: lol this is such a late response I haven’t been doing like anything)). Also, sorry for such an extensive breakdown on an honest question, we just want to have this to refer to if we get more questions like this.
A quick breakdown: This post will have four parts: a practical explanation, an explanation more related to our blog set up, just a more philosophical explanation, and under the cut a breakdown of more headcannon like characters.
Practical Explanation:
So one of the reasons why we decided to allow more headcanon like characters is simply the logistics on defining what is more fanon or not is a pain. If you look down at the list you can see there’s an ambiguous section, and that’s because especially regarding sexuality/gender often times there is conflicting opinions/information from actors, producers, whatever. (Ex. Many of the Star Trek characters (their various propaganda has decent information.)) Additionally in the cases of especially Spock and to some extent Frodo them being read as queer has a really long history through the fandom, so to discount them from this feels a bit weird. There are also other cases where due to time period of the media specifically there aren’t gonna be specific terms for some disabilities or sexualities or genders. Overall, there is just a lot of gray areas, and to be like some noncanon stuff counts but others don’t is kinda a hard line to draw. (That being said we did reject a few characters for really not fitting, all characters in the showdown have a decent explanation for being here.)
Blog Set Up Explanation:
This is a little bit more rude (sorry). Honestly, from the get go we’ve established that noncanon characters would count, we didn’t get any complaints until we actually started the polls, and there’s not any way that they will be taken out at this point. If you don’t agree with who we let be in the showdown don’t vote for them.
Philosophical Explanation:
On a more philosophical basis, characters can still resonate with people as having similar stories/experiences to them even if they are not canonically LGBTQ or disabled. This is a place that is celebrating LGBTQ and disabled characters, and if a character’s experiences are important to you why shouldn’t they qualify?
Note about qualifications: characters with disabilities that get cured do count as disabled, also word of god counts as confirmation.
Having to sort this out was confusing as hell, apologies for any errors.
Characters that are not canonically disabled:
Sabran IX Berethnet (The Priory of the Orange Tree)
Robin Buckley (Stranger Things)
Rudyard Funn (Wooden Overcoats)
Characters that are really ambiguous/confusing:
Julian Bashir, Data, Elim Garak, Geordi La Forge (Star Trek)
Riku (Kingdom Hearts)
Kuruto Ryuki (AI: The Somnium Files- Nirvana Initiative)
Chu Sangwoo (Semantic Error)
Characters that are not canonically LGBTQ+:
Kaz Brekker (Six of Crows)
Saki Tenma (Project Sekai)
Kurogane (Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle)
Xiao Xingchen, Song Lan (The Untamed / Mo Dao Zu Shi)
Daan (Fear and Hunger)
Homura Akemi (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)
Patchouli Knowledge (Touhou Project)
Havelock Vetinari (Discworld)
Wayne Terrisborn (Mistborn)
Lapis Lazuli (Steven Universe)
Link (Legend of Zelda)
Qifrey (Witch Hat Atelier)
Viktor (Arcane)
Chicory (Chicory: A Colorful Tale)
Johnny Joestar (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run)
Schnn T’gai Spock, T’Poll, Keyla Detmer (Star Trek)
Chirrut Îmwe, Darth Maul (Star Wars)
Gaige (Borderlands)
Hiccup Haddock (How To Train Your Dragon)
Jem Carstairs (The Shadowhunter Chronicles)
Frodo Baggins (Lord of the Rings)
Eichi Tenshouin (Ensemble Stars!!)
Zuko (Avatar: The Last Airbender)
Bucky Barnes, Professor X, Matt Murdock (Marvel)
Hitori Gotoh (Bocchi the Rock!)
Jace Beleren (Magic: The Gathering)
Joly (Les Misérables)
Nodoka Hanadera (Healin’ Good Precure)
Arthur Lester (Malevolent Podcast)
Hearthstone (Magnus Chase)
Hebe Harrison (Doctor Who)
Hermann Gottlieb (Pacific Rim)
Harry Du Bois (Disco Elysium)
Merle Highchurch (The Adventure Zone)
Elphaba Thropp (Wicked)
Monkey D. Luffy and Roronoa Zoro (One Piece)
Ricky Potts (Ride the Cyclone)
Tokito Minoru (Wild Adapter)
Blade (Honkai Star Rail)

Trying to organize my ask notebook better since I've run out of space under general fandom asks and I would like to know what fandoms you are in so I can ask the correct people about the correct fandoms.
I think my main ones are Bagginshield/The Hobbit, Sherlock/Johnlock, Dragon Age Inquisition, {Pippin/Faramir Merry/Eowyn}/The Lord of the Rings and I dip my toes in a few that I currently can't remember but ones I don't engage in canon at all are Good Omens but only for Crowley/Azirapheal ship, Stranger Things but only for Steve/Eddie ship, The Witcher but only for Geralt/Jaskier things and Ladybug and Cat Noir but only for Adrinette .
Also do you like getting asks that are or include story ideas or snippets?
*Asks are sent for fun, no pressure to answer within a certain amount of time or at all.
Ooh, I am in so many fandoms XD It wouldn't actually be easier to list the ones I'm not in, but sometimes it feels that way.
Definitely there with you on The Hobbit and Bagginshield and Lord of the Rings and that whole 'verse, and I'm all in on the Good Omens and The Witcher (well, all in on most of the fandom, I've read some of one of the books, played some of one of the games, watched some of one of the shows... XD).
I also enjoy me some Sherlock, but my preferred flavour is Elementary, rather than BBC.
At the moment my main fandoms are One Piece (catching up with the anime atm, it's taking a while XD), Supernatural, and Star Wars (pretty much entirely second hand, except for the Kenobi show and recently being bullied into watching the Mandalorian with a friend =P).
Okay, I'm going to try and be concise now because otherwise we'll be here all day. Here are fandoms that I've written stuff for (published or not): A Song of Ice and Fire, Alice in Wonerland, Assassin's Creed, Avatar the Last Airbender, Black Butler, Bleach, James Bond, Charmed, Criminal Minds, Critical Role, Emperor's Edge, Fairy Tail, Firefly, Frozen, Fruits Basket, FullMetal Alchemist, Girl Genius, Rise of the Guardians, Harry Potter, Kingsman, Marvel Cinematic Universe, Merlin, Chronicles of Narnia, Naruto, Avatar (2009), Once Upon a Time, Peaky Blinders, Percy Jackson, Pride and Prejudice, The Sandman, Shadowhunters, Sinbad (Dreamworks), Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, Teen Wolf, The Untamed, Torchwood, White Collar, X-Men.
I'm not, you know, deep in the fandom of more than usually three or four at a time, but my muse wanders like she's got itchy feet. And I'm probably at least passingly familiar with several other fandoms: I'm enjoying watching Dungeon Meshi at the moment but I haven't yet got the itch to play in that sandbox, I love reading Scum Villain's Self Saving System fanfic but I don't feel I know the characters well enough to write my own, I watched basically all of the Disney animated movies as a kid but I haven't yet had a solid enough idea to write, I have seen some of Stranger Things but I watched most of it while somewhat sleep deprived and that is not the best way to watch horror ^^" I've played FF7, I've read the Hunger Games, I've watched Yuri On Ice, etc, but I don't have a convenient list of those, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I won't make this any longer than it needs to be going into my ships unless you ask specifically, but let it be said that I'm a polyshipper in a big way (nothing gets my brain to go brrrrrrr like complicated relationship dynamics =3), and making it onto my NoTP list takes some seriously rancid vibes and/or overly pushy fans, and it's always safe to ask me about a ship =P
Story ideas are very welcome! The muse needs constant feeding =P I won't make any guarantees about them going anywhere, but I love seeing them all the same. Snippets... are probably the same? I don't know, I've never been sent one. I'm probably even less likely to do anything with them, just because of stupid brain quirks, but who knows?

Things to expect
If the one you want isn't on here, feel free to ask! Send in asks anyway! Please!
Marauders
Wolfstar
Jegulus
Rosekiller
Scream
Stu and Billy
Chad and Ethan
Pretty much anyone, I just prefer ships
Shadowhunters Chronicles
Anyone, mostly Malec, but if you ask for someone, you'll probably get it. I'm still reading The Dark Artifices, so you might not get that, but The Mortal Instruments or The Infernal Devices, yeah, you'll get it.
Stranger Things
Steddie mostly.
Maybe something with Billy, but that's not going to be canon at all.
Others
Somehow there's more that aren't enough for me to put in a specific fandom.
Simon and Wille from Young Royals
Jefferson (the Mad Hatter from Once Upon A Time, because the Hatter is my favorite Disney character)
Jason Todd (probably more Titans than comics)
Dick Grayson (probably more Titans than comics)
Finnick Odair (possible Peeta, but probably Finnick)
Marvel? Maybe?
Maybe some original stuff? If that's something you're interested in.
Fluff, angst, smut, you name it, it'll be here.
I will probably write for straight ships, but being gay and mostly writing queer ships, I'm a lot more comfortable with that.
I don't really do x reader stuff, but I've also never tried it. If I do, it will suck for a while.
I'm very insecure about my writing, so if I don't reply to comments or something, it's not personal, I just don't like reading my work. That being said, it'll also probably mostly be unedited.

Hi! 2, 15, 16, 21 from the fandom asks? c:
thank you for the ask!! :3
spread some positivity with a "love your fandom" ask
2. a headcanon you weren't sure about at first but have come to like!
Okay I thought hard about this one because honestly most of my likes/dislikes when it comes to headcanons have remained consistent! The closest I've been able to think of is that my thoughts about Loghain's characterization - when I first played DAO, I was solidly in the "god what an awful, evil guy, classic antagonist" and now I acknowledge the nuance and the complicated politics that are behind his behavior during Origins, even if they aren't featured in the game. As far as a specific headcanon, I guess that his betrayal of Cailan at Ostagar wasn't planned? I definitely don't think that it was planned now and I guess I probably did assume that it was planned before. Although Solas sort of implies that this is less headcanon and more like, a valid interpretation of canon if you talk to him in Haven, so it's kind of a gray area lol
15. the character that always makes you smile
Varric Tethras, my beloved :3 also Cullen, Anders, Charade Amell, & Lace Harding (decisions? picking favorites? not in my house lmao)
16. a tiny detail in canon that you want more people to appreciate
Charade Amell! She's a really tiny quest in DA2 Act III but the fact that she's a Jenny is so cool and I would love to see more appreciation for her. Also, I think her story gives dimension to Gamlen's character and why he's Like That and I think it's a shame that people miss that.
21. a fandom you're not active in anymore but that you still really like
Shadowhunter Chronicles/Mortal Instruments! The books, specifically, since I could never really get behind the film/tv adaptations. I was in the YA demographic when they were originally released and re-reading them was what got me back into fandom/fanfic after some severe college burnout. I love it for that, but DA owns my soul now lol

I really think it is less about popularity turning people off a book, and more about whether your taste in books tends to align with what is popular.
For a lot of people, I think TikTok popular books just aren't their taste so if a book gets popular on TikTok they'll avoid it.
I'm the opposite. Some of my favourite series are ACoTaR, TFotA, and The Wrath and the Dawn. I also liked Daughter of the Pirate King, To Kill a Kingdom, A Curse so Dark and Lonely, and Iron Widow. All of these were books I discovered because TikTok popularized them. And series like The Selection, The Hunger Games, and Red Queen I didn't get into because of TikTok but they have had their stint of popularity there as well.
All that is to say, if a book is TikTok popular there is a good chance I will like it.
But there are million other reasons why I might pick up a popular book too. Popular books (and cult classics) have large fandoms, which means fan content to get me over the book hangover. I fully intend to pick up Shadowhunters, Lunar Chronicles, and Scythe because I know the experience of reading them will also include art, fics, amvs, and memes. The stories will stick with me longer because of it.
Books that have stayed popular for 10+ years or experienced a resurgence in popularity have typically stood the test of time. Some books are popular because they were revolutionary or influential in their genres (LotR being the most infamous example) and I like knowing the historical progression of the genres I read. I picked up Mistborn because everyone on BookTube was raving about the magic system, and I was glad I did.
But a book that is not popular in my preferred genres, that is not being recommended by people or Book accounts I trust, that came out within the last few years, and where all the hype is vague and non-specific? Yeah, I need more than that before I will consider spending my time on it.
I guess it just depends on why something is popular.

ok i’m going to try to articulate this as best as i can.
let’s say this character, i’ll call him fred for the sake of efficiency, is gay. he is canonically gay. in the original source material, he is blatantly homosexual. even if he never says straight out “i’m gay”, he still dates guys and talks about how much he loves men and author says later “yeah i never explicitly wrote it in the book, but he’s gay”, so you get it. he’s gay. now say someone writes a fic about fred where he’s straight. they don’t even try to hide it. and it isn’t just one person. it’s a whole part of the fandom that chooses to ignore the fact that he’s canonically gay and instead write fred as straight. they write him as having explicitly romantic and sexual relationships with women.
we all know that that isn’t cool. you can’t just be like “well i choose to interpret fred as straight, cuz that’s just how he comes off to me.” we would all point at that and say “hey you know you’re being kinda homophobic right. you know you’re purposely taking away representation from a marginalized group of people right. you know that’s not cool right.” we all agree on that? yeah? great.
now stay with me through this next part.
let’s say that fred isn’t gay. let’s say he’s aroace. he is conanically aroace. in the original source material, he is blatantly aromantic and asexual. even if he never says straight out “i’m aroace”, he still exhibits disinterest in men and women and talks about how much he hates romance and people in general and the author says later “yeah i never explicitly wrote it in the book, but he’s aroace”, so you get it. he’s aroace. now say someone writes a fic about fred where he’s gay or bi. they don’t even try to hide it. and it isn’t just one person. it’s a whole part of the fandom that chooses to ignore the fact that he’s canonically aroace and instead write him as gay. they write him as having explicitly romantic and sexual relationships with men.
this is where i’m going to lose some of you, but: these two situations are equally bad. it doesn’t matter that in the second situation, they are writing fred as a part of another marginalized community. because, here’s the thing, the aroace community is at the very least just as marginalized as the gay community. the aroace community is actively excluded not only from the straight community but also from the lgbtq+ community. plus, it doesn’t matter who is taking away the representation. you’re still taking away representation. people just aren’t as quick to jump and point it out because people don’t want to admit that gay and bi people can be just as aphobic as straight people can be homophobic.
if you haven’t figured it out yet, this post is more specifically about raphael santiago from the shadowhunter chronicles. i need people to understand that while writing fics about raphael and simon as a couple is fun and all, you’re still taking away representation from aroace people by ignoring his canon sexuality. and that’s not okay.
i’m not trying to tell you what you can or can’t write, or what you can or can’t read and enjoy. i’m just asking that you take a look around and realize that there are plenty of other characters to write about whose sexuality isn’t already a source of fucking discourse in twenty fucking twenty-one. i’m not trying to shame people who write about raphael and simon. i’m not calling you a bad person. i honestly believe that this issue stems less from malicious aphobia and more from simple ignorance. i’m just asking that see this and don’t immediately dismiss it. i’m asking that you see this and think about it.
tldr; writing canonically aroace characters as gay is just as bad as writing canonically gay characters as straight. that’s not to say you’re a bad person for doing this or reading about it, but please remember that there are other characters to write/read about whose sexualities aren’t already a huge debate in the community.
finally, i’m totally open to intellectual conversations about this topic, but if you’re just gonna come at me with blatant aphobia and zero interest in a productive conversation, you’ll be blocked, no questions asked.
#tsc#the shadowhunter chronicles#raphael santiago#tmi#the mortal instruments#asexual#aromantic#aroace#cw cursing#artie tries to write#artie rambles#i wrote this more aggressively than i meant to but maybe that's a good thing#ik that someone's gonna get butthurt over this so i'm preparing myself for the rude comments and anon hate

Quil! What fandoms are you in? I must know! Also, hope you're having a nice day...
Nonsie! The day is just getting started but I've got a few things I'm looking forward to today so I think it'll be nice!
As for fandoms, if you mean being in a fandom in the sense that I post things about it, that's like 97% Keeper of the Lost Cities. It is basically my entire blog and I have written hundreds of thousands of words (not an exaggeration) in analysis, fic, and asks. Sprinkled in there you'll occasionally find me posting about the Twilight Saga (I'm aware it's a dumpster fire, I simply can't look away though), Empires SMP and other minecraft things, and reblogging things from a few other fandoms.
However! If you mean fandoms as in things I enjoy, well that's a lot bigger of a list. People are welcome to talk to me about anything outside of kotlc, that's just where my focus has ended up by chance. Here's an incomplete list of books, shows, etc. that I've watched/enjoyed! I say incomplete because I'm going to forget a few things, so if you ever wonder if I've seen/read something just ask about it! Or you can suggest it to me and I'll check it out!
Now, the list of things/fandoms I have seen or liked! Not all are fandoms, some are just other things you can talk to me about!
Shows/Movies:
Black Sails (might be my favorite show!)
The Expanse (I'm planning on reading all the books just haven't yet)
Arcane (the other possible favorite show)
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (haven't watched the last season yet)
Shadowhunters (I haven't watched season 3B yet, but I've read the books so...)
El labyrinto del fauno (my favorite movie!)
A Monster Calls (I haven't read the book)
The Witcher (haven't seen season two yet and haven't read the books yet, though I own the first two)
Labyrinth (the 1986 movie I watched obsessively as a child)
Other things I've watched: Steven Universe, the first few seasons of Infinity Train, a few episodes of Cursed, Misfits (only the first 2 or 3 seasons), the Winx saga netflix live action thing
Books:
most of the cliche ya authors everyone read when getting in to the genre (Sarah J Maas, Cassandra Clare, Holly Black, Veronica Roth, Marissa Meyer, etc)
Rick Riordan's numerous series (little behind though. last one I read was book...2? of trials of apollo. I'll catch up eventually)
The Bone Houses by Emily Lloyd Jones (I love this book so much)
The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater (I have read halfway through Call Down the Hawk. I'll read it and Mister Impossible eventually)
Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas
They Both Die At The End by Adam Silvera
The Seven Realms series by Cinda Williams Chima (though if you want to talk about this I have not read it in years and forgotten a lot)
The Peculiar Children series (I've read through book 3 and plan to read the others)
The Steampunk Chronicles by Kady Cross (another one I haven't read in years and forgotten almost everything)
Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo (I've read the first book in shadow and bone but that's it. haven't watched the show either)
The Serpend & Dove triology (still need to read book 3)
The Illuminae Files by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff (still need to read book 3)
The Aurora Cycle by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff (also still need to read book 3)
I think you get the point. I've read a lot of books and love to talk about them! There are hundreds that aren't on this list and more I'm planning to read.
Don't see a book listed here? Ask! I can't remember them all off the top of my head but if you give me a specific title/author it'll be so much easier to remember
Other:
minecraft! both playing the game myself and watching others play the game. I watch primarily GeminiTay, and the series I keep up with are/were Empires SMP, AfterlifeSMP, and Hermitcraft (from Gem's pov)
Tiny Tina's Wonderlands (currently playing through it with my dad! I'm playing a clawbringer and he's playing a spore warden)
dnd. I don't mention it much here but my dad is a huge nerd when it comes to dnd and so I grew up playing it and have for years. I've been both DM for a few different campaigns (included helping run the dnd club my dad hosted at my middle school) along with playing! I'm actually on an episode of dnd podcast somewhere. I haven't listened to it and it was a while ago, but it is out there!
sewing/crafts. My grandma was a seamstress so I also grew up learning how to sew and cross-stitch and things like that. I've made clothes and altered them and so on and so forth and think it's a fun creative outlet
The History of Human Dissection/medical history. From time to time you'll see me talking about this because an area of interest for me, so if you ever find anything about medical history please feel free to send it my way because I love it!! Things like old beliefs/practices/etc are wonderful
Language! I'm actually a modern languages major at my college (I'm a high school student taking dual credit) and find them very interesting. I'm mexican but grew up without the language and have been studying spanish for about four years, learning ASL for about...2? and I have a tiny bit of french knowledge (which I've mostly forgotten).
Before this list gets even longer I'll stop there! There are many other things I enjoy and would love to talk about that I haven't mentioned, but anyone is welcome to talk to me about anything they'd like at any time! I know I post almost entirely about kotlc, but there are many other things I enjoy.
So hopefully that at least gives you a starting place for my interests!
#can't wait to remember multiple other things I really like that I forgot to put on the list!#but seriously if there's something specific you're interested in and want to know if I know of it please feel free to ask#this list is very random and intended to give you a general idea of where my interests skew#the things I like#books I've read#shows and movies I've seen (not a lot. I don't generally watch things)#i have a very long tbr so if there's a book I haven't read you like odds are its on the tbr#topics I like#random#quil's queries#quil lore

I think I finally figured it out!
Why so many people hate on tmi!
(Still a theory)
So way more people have read tmi than the whole series (when I talk to people about books and mention the shadowhunter chronicles they are always like "oh yeah I remember reading them years ago" and then I'm like "hey did you know that there are almost 20 books out now?" They always look ready for me to say psych)
What does this have to do with anything?
Well most people read it young. And well tmi is my favorite series but let's be honest when it's not you remember the parts you didn't like the most and here comes the incest
Then comes speculation because you don't remember the actual series and why shot happens and you start building your own tmi which is drastically different than the actual one
That's always the case when someone hates on tmi. It never actually talks about the series as a whole, how the characters grow, the trauma, how despite all that this series is still the funniest with everyone being so sarcastic @ everything and everyone
Then come the rereaders.
First read "ew incest " and because of that never read again
But when you actually reread tmi, don't think about that but EVERYTHING ELSE because there is SO MUCH GOING ON you actually realize why and how shit is happening
So basically summarized
People don't actually remember 95% of tmi and just call it the incest series, because you never remember everything from first read and the people who actually understand tmi are usually the people who reread it and actually understand the characters because some people even ignore the other characters (except malec cuz yk)
But even with that a lot of people lack critical thinking skills and emphaty. It feels like in fiction or irl you aren't allowed to make mistakes. People just shout at you "how dare you not know that" or "how dare you do this immature thing at 12 years old you should know better "
And like I said tmi has A LOT of plot NO ONE is talking about, the characters are truly flawed which (to me) makes them feel more human but also easier to hate if you are such an idealist that even the smallest things make you tick.
Soooo yeah
Anyway sorry for rambling
Me reading this ask: and that's the tea.
This is why I say read it yourself, then read it again, and form your own opinion. Don't let outside sources form the opinion for you. I mean this in the case of positive opinions as well.
Although I don't know if it's a lack of empathy exactly. I don't think having empathy or not having empathy plays in here, I think it's maybe more of a moral obligation that we've been taught. Like if you do this thing you have to be punished or shamed to the point that you feel worthless, leaving someone thinking "What's the point then?" I think has more to do with morality.
If you involve yourself in controversial things people automatically think you support or side with that, when In reality it's more of a study than picking sides, we are giving controversial things to study because it widens our mind and critical thinking skills. It does not mean someone supports the actions.
That's also where the fandom gets confused, thinking that we support the ugly actions. We don't. We've just thought about them critically and moved on. That's how it works.
Fandom (specifically TSC fandom) has become more about "who has the most flaws and mistakes and how should they be torn apart for them and shamed endlessly? They don't deserve to be happy or have their trauma and growth acknowledged."
It's why I've taken a step back lately, it's become too much for me to deal with. When makes your mental health worse, it just seems pointless.
We forget that shame and punishment don't bring growth. Love and grace bring forth growth.
Anyway, TMI gang are my favorite. They are the best gang in my opinion. And the most human like and relatable to me. I can't relate or really connect with the other gangs. But TMI is home for me.
I don't mind the ramble at all, I love rambling 🧡
Hopefully this response makes sense. I agree with a lot of this though. Hope you are well and if not hope things get better.

this update touches on almost every muse & fandom on the multi / @affcgato, so please consider skimming!
hello beans! I hope all of you are doing well, & this week is starting to treat you gently. I know a lot of you have been having a rather hard week up until this point, so I hope it cuts that shit out. I’m currently pinging around my apartment trying to get my dog to settle down because she’s been waking up at 5am & my roommate needs to be able to get an extra hour of sleep. my solution? wear her ass out so she has no choice but to sleep lmao. this is going to be a bit of a long post, so bear with me!
updates & info for @affcgato!
READING SCHEDULE & MUSE UPDATES:
I’ve finally finished all of my main reading for Andromache the Scythian, which is nice since when I circle back to her, it’s going to be thick hard-science novels & I’m giving myself a break before that. I actually changed up my reading order in the middle of last night, & I’m going to be putting off my Star Wars stuff until AFTER Chain of Iron ( Shadowhunter Chronicles ) is released, because I like to group things by similarity, & I should be just finishing Little Women for my book club when I have to dive into CoI. given the settings are similar enough, it feels weird to dive into several hundred pages of various SW stuff right in the middle of two period pieces. so instead, I’m going to be focusing on my Chain of Gold re-read, plowing through Chain of Iron, then diving back into my SW things.
a sidebar, I did finish Sabé’s popup as much as I could without finishing Queen’s Shadow, so I’ll loop back around when I pick that back up, & fully add to her headcanons. Leia has additionally gotten a SMALL touch up, but no other SW related popups have been updated yet.
After Chain of Iron, I’m going to spend a small amount of time updating popups for the relevant muses ( Jesse, Jem, Cordelia ( test muse ), & Magnus ), which I’m giving myself a little leeway on because ya girl is burn out from coding, but then I should be back on track to plow through the rest of my reading & updates.
PLOTTING & INTERACTION:
due to unexpected demand, I’ve moved a few more muses around & loosened the privacy on a few of them so if there’s someone you’ve been eyeing, you are welcome to approach me on discord because I honestly wasn’t expecting my weirdly divergent muses to garner that much attention, but hey! let me know, we can maybe work out some plotting.
I also have an open themed plotting / interaction call for my low thread-count muses , which includes a little bit of everyone. you’re also welcome to request a specific muse using the eight ball emoji, so please take advantage of that!
last note for this section, please fill out my interest tracker/plotting guide (found here), it makes it much much easier to keep track of who wants who, & it’ll make me less shy about approaching you, promise.
expected updates!
Shadowhunters: popups updated for TID/TLH muses to comply with CoI release ( Mar. 2, but my book apparently comes Mar. 8, playing this by ear. ) My book came on the release date, & I fininished it in two sittings. spoilers will be tagged until April, one month out from release, unless otherwise requested.
Star Wars: Sabé & Leia will be getting updates, & Kylo + Jyn will officially be added in varying stages as I dive into their canon. I have an extensive reading list, so this update will take some time - movies don’t really help me absorb world-building, so you’re stuck with my reading speed for this one. (I’ll be reading somewhat chronologically, so updates will follow that order)
OCs: After all of these shenanigans, I expect to also update/add information for Charlotte to the multi, then I’m trading Sci Fi out for Fantasy & delving back into Ersken’s lore.
Marvel & DC: As some of you have notice, I cut a DC muse recently. I don’t really feel bad about it because he was getting no interaction & I didn’t have the headspace to delve into his wider canon & lore, so off he went. My absolutely last priority will be to circle back & delve into Karolina Dean & Jason Todd. they’re both limited canon for the time being as far as what I’ll be adding to this blog, so I’ll be focusing on Karolina’s comic canon, & Under the Red Hood + limited comic runs for Jason.
that should be everything, but in the event you’re waiting on something for a muse you don’t see listed here, please let me know!

Top 5 relationships in The Mortal Instruments
Lets be real the shadowhunter chronicles has grown into a huge world world with more characters than could ever all stay in one in any one institute (and remember institutes are for some reason designed to accommodate the same number as nice hotels) and because so many of them interact we have had some pretty cool characters and some pretty great relationships. I thought I would make ranking lists ranking the my personal favorites for members of family as well relationships in each series. IMPORTANT: When I say “relationships” I am not being specific to any one type of relationship (romantic/family/friend). I just mean two characters who share a type of bond.
Since The Mortal Instruments or TMI, came out first I will start with it. 5 relationships in TMI who have really well done dynamic’s and I want to take this opportunity to spotlight them below
5.) Jace & Church
Aww Church, he was doing the grumpy cat act before it was cool. Everybody loves Church. Church loves Jem and likes exactly one person per series/generation. In TMI the one person Church likes is Jace. Now other instances you could argue that Church liking Jace is just another attempt of CC to enforce that Jace (mr. blond hair, gold eyes, gold skin, takes a bath in golden spaghetti) is the golden boy and everybody should like him. But once you look at who Jace and Church are as characters (what character Jace has that's not referenced by his aforementioned coloring) them being buddies makes a lot of sense. For one thing we know from the falcon story that Jace is fond of animals that have adittutes, which Church certainly does. The first time he made friends with such an animal Valentine... But Valentine is gone when Jace meets Church, and none of the Lightwoods mind if Jace wants to goof off with the cat (to them that’s probably one of the least reckless things Jace likes to do). So for Jace Church is in essence a way to reclaim part of his childhood that Valentine tried to twist and corrupt.
On the other side I love how respectful Jace is of Church’s boundaries. Guys Church has a past as extensive and hard as any other character in TSC. HE has been both a pet and a wild cat many times over, he ha been treated well by some humans, and horribly by others. This is no purring kitty-cat that is going to just climb into someones lap wanting hands run through his fur or to be picked up and carried around. No Church doesn’t like that. Jace understands this, and never tries to force Church to let him handle him. IF Church wants Jace to touch him he will take the initiative and walk up to Jace’s leg. If not Jace is perfectly happy to hang out in a room or follow the cat at a distance, pretending to chat with him. I saw a post that said that even after Church got reunited with Jem (churches OTH) Church still considers Jace his buddy and they hang out during visits, that is precious.
4.) Alec and Magnus aka Malec
Aww Here they are, fandom darlings and CC’s poster couple for LGBT+ inclusion. I promise that is not why I put them on this list. I actually never give characters or couples brownie points for being same sex or anything like that because so many writers try to get away with making “Gay” a characters whole personalty or squeezing in characters for the sole purpose of saying “look inclusion, look I can be woke” and then they don’t consider it necessary to put the level of characterization they would into a straight character in. I do like inclusion and feel it is important, but only when it is fully developed to the best of a creators abilities.
Now I will admit here that Malec are only my second favorite romantic couple in TMI. That being said I do really like them. I like the pace that their relationship develops at. When other couples did the whole love at first sight or suddenly inexplicably in love. Malec moved at what I consider a pretty realistic pace and you could easily follow their journey. In book 1 they met at a party and decided the other was pretty cute, started to spend time together on occasions, started to like each other, then started to really like each other. It’s not until the very end of book 6 where you fee like the two are really committed to the whole “Okay it’s you and me till the end” idea, and you are glad to finally see them there.
That brings me to my second reason for liking Malec. They are a hot mess, as all three main couples are, but unlike with the other two Malec never pretended to be anything other than a hot mess. If I compared Malec to Clace i would say that Clace follow a pretty typical fairy tale formula: I met you and I loved you, then the evils in the world conspired to keep us apart, but I fought my way back to you and now we can live happily ever after. Malec aren’t like a fairy tale though. They are that high-school/early college couple who are consistently on and off. The rocks in their path aren’t “evil forces” it’s just them. Just the fact that they both have a tendency to be whinny, stupid, jealous, controlling, a!@#$”s to each other. Honestly if they didn’t care so much about each other, then they would be a really toxic couple. But they do care a lot about each other. They hated when they were always fighting. They hated seeing each other so sad. But they couldn’t just forget about their problems or pretend them away. So many times throughout TMI Malec would find themselves at a cross road where on one path they force themselves to change and see if that made their relationship better , and another path were they decide that it is just to much to and call it quits. They broke up twice because they got to times where it was just to much to keep going the way they were and neither were ready to change. But then they couldn’t stop thinking about the other or missing the other. So, when they met up again they would always reconcile and be ready to put in the work to change their relationship for the better. Looks like those changes worked out given that years down the line we see then happy, married with two kids, happy at their jobs, hosting social gathering with their friends as apposed to before when they would always spend then picking at each other or having an outright fight.
Malec are not perfect, TMI never pretends they are. They are both a lot to deal with and at least a few times one of them will slam their hands down on some surface, and I as a reader found myself wishing I could bring my hands down on the pair of thems heads. But I consider Malec a pretty gritty look at what any couple can be like at their lows, as well as the highs they can reach if they are willing to put in the time and work, and exactly why some are willing.
3.) Maia and Bat
What? What was that? If Malec are only my second favorite couple in TMI then who is my favorite? Oh, it’s Baia. Baia is like literally the perfect couple. They met years ago became best friends, tried dating and went back to being best friends when Maia-who had just gotten out of an abusive relationship and was still recovering- told Bat that was all she could handle. Their friendship is shown in the background throughout books 2-5 and we see that they always have each others backs. We see Bat is always their for Maia, always trying to take her out as a friend and convince her to have fun. Maia supports Bat’s DJ career and talks about how much she admires him for perusing such a normal mundane life because (regardless of the fact that they aren’t normal mundanes) its what he wants. Their relationship is brought to more of a focus in book 6 when shadowhunters leave, demons attack and their fellow downworlder start staging uprisings. Both of these two are still so young, and now (with their Alpha away indefinitely) their whole world is falling apart. Fixing this isn’t their job, no one has tasked them with it, but its the only way to keep themselves, each other, and everything they love safe. SO they make the choice to take action. Like everything in their lives since they met, they make a point to always support each other. Bat challenges an aggressive wolf for control of the pack because he has sen this wolf go bully those close to Luke and is determined to protect Maia. When Bat goes down in the fight Maia tags herself in and fights to protect him. When Maia wins she wakes up Bat isn’t upset or embarrassed that she had to save him, He immediately throws support to her as his Alpha. One of Maia’s first act is to make Bat her Beta because they are a team and their is no one she trusts more. They rebuild their pack and the Predator Lupis together, and also get back together. But that is less important because no matter what their relationship they have always and will always be there.
Seriously when every other couple acted stupid, was over dramatic, were never sure where they stood with each other; Maia and Bat were true friends, true love, and unwavering in their support. So what keeps them from being number 1 on this list? Well were still a background relatonship for most of TMI (a lot of the fandom either didn’t remember or didn’t care that they got together at the end or that they were even friends). Also knowing CC and general media aimed at TMI’s age group I have to unfortunately believe that if CC had wanted to bring more focus onto Maia and Bat,then she would have made them way more dramatic and less awesomely supportive. Moving on
2.) Valentine and Luke
I can hear the gasps from here. No, not read that wrong, it really says Valentine and Luke. How could I talk just get praising a supportive pair only to go and talk about a pair that betrayed and tried to annihilate the other? Well for one thing I will remind you Valentine and Luke whole dynamic is friends to enemies. As that they really work. Luke never had what it takes to be a shadowhunter on his own. He says himself that he couldn’t bear easy marks, he couldn’t do simple training exercises, he was miserable and ready to just drop out and give up. Then Valentine “came into my room and offered to train me”. Even in the future Luke says that in their first interactions that Valentine saved him. That he is the one who made Luke into a shadowhunter. Well truth be told Valentine made Luke more of an assistant Shadowhunter, to him, but it is still farther than Luke was getting on his own, and its completely genuine when he says he loved and worshiped Valentine. You see why he was so blind to what Valentine (Stop trying to pretend you were always in the right Lucian) what both of them were becoming. Valentine gave Luke a life as a shadowhunter, and then he took it away. Valentine thought he was covering himself, that he was getting rid of a doubtful ally before he had a chance to become an enemy.
Getting Luke turned into a werewolf was easily the biggest mistake of Valentine’s life. Shadowhunter Luke was never able to do anymore than listen to Valentines orders and carry them out with no thought but how much doing so would please Valentine (Shadowhunter Luke= Valentines pet lap dog.) Werewolf Luke could say no. He could fight Valentine to a stand still at least, beat him at best. Werewolf Luke had knowledge and insight as to the needs of both Downworlders and Shadowhunters, and used that knowledge paired with Valentine’s impediment threats to rally the downworlders and get them to force the clave to give up 4 seats on the council. Because of Luke Valentines war caused Downworlders to get more rights instead of less. (Shadowhunter Luke=Valentines pet lap dog. Werewolf Luke= has more brains and skill than Valentine) Valentine thought he was getting rid of a potential threat when he had Luke turned; instead he gave his strongest supporter the push needed to break away from him, and the motivation to take become the man who had enough power to foil all his plans. That their is Irony at its finest my friends. I love it.
And Now 1.) Jace and Simon
This is hands down the best relationship in TMI and should I ever make a top 5 relationships This one will definitely be in it. How can they not when they are literary the TSC equivalent of Batman and Superman. (I mean that quite literally by the way. Jace is Batman: A hero who lived a life of pain and loss and used that as a motivation to protect people and prevent harm. Simon is Superman: A hero who wasn’t born into this world, these people weren’t always his people, but he decided that this was his home now and he was going to make it a better place.) There are so many things I love about these two I love how well their relationship was paced in how as they got to know each other more they transitioned from enemies to rivals to friends to family. I love their banter. these two together make me laugh more than any other pair. The number one thing I love about Jace and Simon is how careful CC was to keep them standing on Equal ground.
I meant they weren’t equal when it came to who had Clary’s affections. No Jace won that battle the moment Clary ditched simon, who was in the process of asking her out, to go find out who Jace was and what he was doing at the club. But lets look at virtually every other factor. Both are young men only 16 who have suffered the loss of a loved one before and are fiercely loyal and protective of the ones they have left. Neither are always sure who they can trust. In book 1 Jace is introduced s having vanquished more demons than anyone else in their age group, Before the end of Book 1 Simon is revealed to be skilled in archery and uses that skill to vanquish an incredibly dangerous Greater Demon. In book 2 Simon dies then is brought back from the dead to rise again, Jace does the same, through admittingly different methods, one book later. Jace is from a powerful race of hunters (shadowhunters), lets make Simon a member of a another powerful race of hunters (vampires and then Shadowhunters). Oh it looks like Jace has extra gifts his blood is special. Jace gives Simon his blood and Simon now has extra gifts to. Both of them have been hunted over their gifts, both have tried to help and protect the other. Jace giving Simon that Blood was a huge sacrifice and then he sacrificed for him again by admitting what he did to Valentine, knowing it will anger Valentine and could cause him to lose love for Jace. So in the second half of the series Simon starts Sacrificing for Jace. He gives up not only the mark of Chain which protected him from harm, but also a beloved memory connecting him to his own late father. Jace showed Simon a lot of the Shadoworld, and Simon returned that by teaching Jace aspects of mundane life. He told him pop culture references, let him stay with him in his apartment, taught him to play video games, and even took him grocery shopping. (Ask me why Jace seems more human when he is with Simon yet more like a fantasy man with Clary)
After reading Tales From The Shadowhunting Academy I will say that Jace was the ONLY one of the TMI gang who deserved to get Simon back. He is the only one who ever seemed to think about how Simon must be feeling or made any effort to be there for him. Alec and Magnus ignored Simon and acted like they didn’t care that he was back, while Isabelle and Clary were both incredibly selfish and only seemed to think of themselves. They actually had the audacity to blame Simon for not remembering them, and make him feel more like crap for not being able to just walk back into a life they knew he couldn’t remember, knowing that he sacrificed his memories to save THEIR lives. Clary Isabelle I am so disappointed in you ladies. Jace you are doing great.
Ending this to anyone wondering if at this point if I ship Jimon; Yes. I think they would have made an awesome couple. I also think they are awesome as friends and brothers in law. Any way you slice it Jimon is top tear writing
This has been my top 5 TMI relationships. I will do a TID top 5 when I either learn how to make these smaller, or have the time to do one this long again. Heads up it will probably be the second one.

#aromanticspectrumawarenessweek Day 2 rant/blog 2
Day 2 #aromanticspectrumawarenessweek rant 2 Shorter than the last: AS always there is a very good chance this is going to mean bugger all to anyone but me,. but I want to do it, so i'm doing it. so there :P
I call it “emotions”, Squishes friends and Fandom.
small facts blurb first
There is a widely held misconceptions that all Aromantic identifying people lack emotion, lack the ability to form social connections and are “loveless” in reality many Aros are capable of all these things. It varys just like they do.
A person who identifies as Aromantic is still capable of other types of attraction, such as recognizing when a person is good-looking ― Some Aromantics get platonic crushes or "squishes", also known as platonic attraction. Aros are capable of feeling “love”- for example Aro’s feel platonic love such as that between close friends very strongly.
On the other hand, some Aromantics may not experience platonic love or attraction, and may identify as aplatonic. Others may not desire partners of any kind, and may identify as nonamorous. Some Aromantics embrace the loveless label and reject the idea that love is necessary for happiness. want to know more? ask or research yourself. ( for example https://www.healthline.com/health/aromantic ) _____
As regards me... Emotions: As certain people will tell you I am not completely emotionless as much as I have wished to be, but I do not have the same emotional map as other people do. I do my damndest not to show what little I do feel, and only those certain people have ever truly seen me with the walls down. Its debatable whether that’s because i’m Aro or because I developed a way to cope with being used and bullied when I was in school and it just stuck, either works.
Squishes: I hate the term, but if its the only way to make people differentiate and stop assuming i’m faking and am really some sort of straight/bi letch (naming no names) . I will happily stand here and say that my admiration and ‘love’ of characters and actors counts as ‘squishes’ even if the word makes me want to murder people when they say it in connection with me, its too... sappy, personally I prefer the more formal term of “platonic attraction.” Or “admiration based attraction.”
And yes I do consider my small inner pack to be my “platonic love” because I am fiercely protective of them, and I’d like to think they can read that in me under all walls and shields i hold up on a daily basis out in ‘the world’ If I count you as pack, understand that it is not just me using a term from a fandom, it means that you have done something, been through something with me that makes me admire you, and that it is ONLY ever going to be platonic no matter what is said in society.
Fandom: To Date I can't say there are any cannon characters in fandom that i can name who have openly come out as being Aromantic, but in the Shadowhunter chronicles (mainly The Mortal Instruments) Cassandra Clare wrote Vampire Raphael Santiago as Aromantic Asexual, and while this was watered slightly when the show was made and Raphael only came out as Asexual he remains my go to when asked. Though as with most geeks I have several head cannons that I could wax lyrical about _____
Platonic Love - is a type of love that is not sexual. It is named after Greek philosopher Plato, "Platonic love" in its modern popular sense is an affectionate relationship into which the sexual element does not enter, especially in cases where one might easily assume otherwise."[ "Platonic lovers function to underscore a supportive role where the friend sees [their] duty as the provision of advice, encouragement, and comfort to the other person ... and do not entail exclusivity." (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platonic_love)
Platonic attraction is a form of attraction that is defined as the desire to form a close platonic relationship (friendship) with a specific person, or to form a closer friendship with someone one already knows. The type of friendship desired can often go beyond casual friendship and revolves around a willingness to engage in a very deep symbiotic friendship, and sharing interests and experiences (https://lgbta.wikia.org/wiki/Platonic_Attraction)

Fandoms
Y’all are gonna hate me, but I’m gonna make a super long post about all my fandoms! I don’t wanna list them on the description of my blog because there are soooo many! These are books/movies/TV shows that I like and also have a following that can be called a ‘fandom’, at least, I think so. I can do one on musicians and music if enough of you like and take the time to read this one. I just thought it was nice to let followers and friends know what I like so that we have stuff to talk about or they know what fandoms to send me asks about etc. Right, I’ll stop waffling and get into it. (They’re listed in alphabetical order - blame my weird brain). Try to not judge me, please?
