Actually, no, I'm not done talking about the Minecraft Movie. I'm so incredibly angry about what could have been. Rant incoming, sorry to any and all witnesses. All ye who enter here abandon all hope.
The Lego Movie was a good movie because it was an homage to animators and the community it had built up during the years, was genuinely very well animated and had good plot points despite maintaining its humor, and was a good watch to people who didn't even like Legos. It did have a couple big name actors placed in there to draw views (i.e. Will Ferrell) but for the most part the movie was completely animated with very sparse real life moments that worked very well to tie into the narrative the movie was creating. You're a little kid and the world is so big and angry and full of structure, and you just want to create the things you want to see without being told what to do. Emmett is an ordinary guy told he's special as a lie to get him to comply with what Vitruvius wanted, the same way he complied with orders his entire life, and he defeated that cycle of thinking by showing kindness despite his terrible treatment, unlike Lord Business (i.e. Will Ferrell). It worked astoundingly well to create something that ticked a lot of boxes: narratively sound, incredibly pleasing to look at, funny, and capable of handling serious topics despite being a Kid's Movie.
The Minecraft Movie... does none of that. There are no well placed homages or tributes to a loving community that has been built up for well over a decade. There are no callbacks to Minecraft animations, to any of the Minecraft covers that were a staple of early Minecraft, no references or respects paid to anybody that has been a big name in the community. For fuck's sake, they didn't even put Herobrine is. Herobrine is, to be frank, the most basic Minecraft reference they could have input into this movie as a subtle nod to the community that almost everyone would have understood, and I remain disappointed.
The art style isn't respectful of Minecraft animators at all, instead vaguely resembling AI slop where they tasked it to make Minecraft in real life with realistic shader packs as the references. To be quite frank, it is a spit in the face of almost every creative person in the community. It's disrespectful to the animators, the parody creators, the modpack creators (highly unlikely but I really hope they get in deep shit for using some of them as references, because it's almost uncanny how similar they look), the Minecraft content creationists, everybody. I know they let a scant few Minecraft youtubers on set, but still.... no well hidden easter eggs? No CaptainSparklez logo? No Yogscast? No EthosLab tnt slab? Not even any of the newer youtubers that have made the Minecraft scene up for the past several years. (Not talking about the green guy, god, no, I'm very grateful for that in fact. But nobody at all? Seriously?) I get that it's a MINECRAFT movie, not a Minecraft youtuber movie, and is supposed to be well-digestible for the average audience that isn't familiar with Minecraft, but there are very easy ways to implement this. Most people would at the very least be happy to see a couple seconds of community references, regardless of what they were. Again, NO HEROBRINE? What the fuck are the Warner Bros doing.
There appears to be no strong structural narrative that ties into the base game either, despite there being a... relatively straightforward way to implement one? Look, man, the game literally has objectives for you, despite being relatively sandbox. You spawn in, you chop wood, mine for diamonds, and fight monsters, you go to the Nether, you beat the dragon. The piglins as an element outside of the Nether don't make sense as gameplay wise they zombify, which has been mentioned a lot, true, but I haven't seen ANYONE mention that they could just... I don't know... Go to the fucking Nether!? Why is the plot line being pulled from Minecraft Legends, a game that everyone thought was boring and forgot about instantly? Why are Mojang and Microsoft trying so hard to branch out from base game Minecraft? So far it looks to just be a bullshit poorly carried out isekai movie with a bunch of big name actors, one liners, shitty quips and "he's right behind me isn't he"s. There's no SERIOUS plot beat at all, not even getting a feeling that this might be any more than "uh oh, they're stuck in Minecraft and piglins are trying to kill them!"
The CGI is terrible. Just incredibly poorly implemented. The people look gigantic at the start and it's not immersed at all, it genuinely looks like some of the worst green screen work I've ever seen. They look like they're standing on a rug.
I don't know. It just makes me incredibly angry. There's a deep lack of understanding and appreciation for the game, and that sounds childish, but I think it is decently imperative to at least understand the basics of Minecraft before you make a game on it. Most people under the age of 30 understand at least a little bit about Minecraft, and if they don't, it is your job to make it enjoyable for them! You can make a story about a man that washes up in a strange world and goes to kill a dragon. Everyone can understand that. That's a very basic story that we've been milking for literally hundreds of fucking years. Nothing in the trailer resembles Minecraft at ALL, it was genuinely unrecognizable and alien to me when I first saw it. The trailers don't have a strong resemblance to Minecraft either, but it's there, and they could have honestly just based it off mostly the trailers and that would have been better? Making the movie fully animated would have given it charm and appealed to kids in the same way, and they could have pulled a Lego Movie and done an in person sequence with Jack Black at some point. I don't know. I don't understand a single cinematic decision in making this film.
A lot of people wanted a deep somber animated film about Steve exploring the loneliness and solitude of the world he's in, trying to thrive and create in spite of that, and while I agree that would be incredible, there is just no universe where that would happen in. But that doesn't mean this is excusable. There are so many better ways to execute and implement the ideas that would do well in big theater for a kid's game and it looks like they spat on those ideas and put them in a blender. It's almost comical how bad the movie is: and such a huge, SAD fucking jump from Warner Bros blowing it out of the water with the Barbie Movie last year. My young cousin finds the pink sheep scary and wanted me to turn it off when we showed it to her. There is truly no audience that I feel this appeals to in a meaningful way, and I hope it flops like Morbius. I hope Microsoft and Warner Bros go bankrupt from this.
All in all, it's a terrible example of a game that has been near and dear to a lot of people's hearts and a significant portion of a lot of people's childhoods and makes a mockery of the people that enjoy it, I feel. It's like if The Mario Movie and Jumanji had a terrible, terrible baby. Unless their plan was to get so much negative attention that hoardes of people go to hate watch it, I have no fucking idea who the hell let any of this be released to the public.
Don't go watch it. Don't give these people your money. Demand better for your community and your fans. Hold Microsoft and Warner Bros accountable for bad quality. Microsoft has been a fucking nightmare since... forever, really, but Mojang has really suffered under their iron fist rule for a long time now. Microsoft has been trying to push Mojang to other games and Mojang, due to Microsoft's restrictions, is unable to function as it's own entity anymore. Any drama with updates? Updates too long? Missing out on content from certain updates? Caused by the copyright being owned by Microsoft. Make no mistake, I'm not defending Mojang, they aren't a small little indie company like they say they are- they're owned by one of the biggest goddamn companies in the world. Microsoft has been working on this movie for a goddamn decade and has been working on this concept specifically for almost four years, and this is what they came up with? It's nightmarish. Knowing them they'll try and push it onto the people that actually play the game too, god forbid.
Don't let them ruin our game. Don't give them your money. Watch something worth your time.

Dating Soap
✎: I know this is quite short compared to my other ones, but I'm falling asleep as I write. :(ENJOY!!! (Bf!Soap x F!Reader)
♡Summary: Headcanons of dating Soap <3
**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚
Bf!Soap was sharing headphones with you on a rainy day, and a sudden thought crossed your mind:
“Wait, I need to show you a song, ‘kinda reminds me of you.” You muttered, reaching for your phone before playing it.
Your head on his shoulder as it played, completely clueless as to how grand your gesture was to him. To you, it was just a song that reminded you of him each time you listened. But to Soap, this was his newest prized possession. Ever since that day, he listened to it incessantly. Either if he was running errands, driving, or humming the melody when he was stressed.
Bf!Soap’s greatest quality was his striking mohawk; (duh) and he protected it with his life. He undoubtedly deemed it his greatest responsibility. He also trusted you with his life, so every now and then he let you trim split ends or unkept strands. (He would've never let anyone else do this in a million years, Simon being the only exception).
Bf!Soap enjoyed the lengthy philosophical conversations you’d randomly have, going from discussing your favourite animals to how the universe began and if there really is a greater power. And although he can be goofy and silly at times that man is genuinely smart.
Bf!Soap perpetually teased you the moment he discovered you couldn't read a clock:
“What time is it, bonnie?” he asked, his eyes glued to the TV playing a football match.
You had no access to a digital clock as your phone was dead, so your gaze instinctively shot to the wall clock.
“It’s, um... something something... PM,”
And the moment he came to terms with his newfound discovery, he laughed so hard he got excruciatingly painful cramps and started seeing stars.
“Ugh, I just couldn’t be bothered to learn when I was younger. We have technology and stuff now!” you proclaimed, defensively crossing your arms.
“Oh my word,” he mumbled while clutching his stomach, still wheezing out a few dry chuckles.
From that mildly humiliating experience, he taught you how to read one instead of continuously laughing at you.
"So, bonnie," he began, "You see the big hand, right? That's the minute hand. ‘Tells you how many minutes have passed."
You nodded, feeling a bit sheepish but willing to learn.
"And the wee hand - that's the hour hand."
You watched the hands move, slowly beginning to grasp the concept. "Okay, I think I'm getting it.”
Soap could sense the lingering doubt in your tone. He leaned in closer, his warm brown eyes locked onto yours. "You sure, love?"
“No - of course I do!”
You hesitated, then sighed.
"Okay, maybe not entirely."
"Let's break it down again. Remember, big hand is minutes, wee hand is hours."
He patiently explained it once more, a softness visible in his tone. He took the time to answer your questions and clarify any confusion.
As you finally began to grasp the art of reading a clock, he rewarded you with a proud smile. "See, you've got it now, haven't ya?" he laughed, pressing a kiss to your forehead.
(Clock reading is too simple for someone to not understand, obviously. BUT just imagine soap explaining something complicated to you until you understand - like being so patient, not mansplaining in the slightest. Like ooouuhh🏃🏽‍♀️)
Bf!Soap was thoroughly amused as he watched you go to town on uninvited moths around the house. You grasped a nearby kitchen towel and started ruthlessly thwacking it. Thankfully for him, he didn’t have to deal with the spiders and insects - as you thoroughly enjoyed making them suffer a harsh and unnecessarily truculent death. Maybe it was a bit much, sure. But who asked them to be here, anyway?
Bf!Soap telling you about his dreams alongside your guys’s morning caffeine refreshments was your entertainment for the morning. His dreams almost always included you and were oddly specific and vague, yet so realistic all at the same time.
“So, babe,” he'd start, settling down on the couch next to you “last night's adventure was a doozy…”
“I’m intrigued.” You sipped your coffee and mentally prepared yourself for the most diabolical tale you’ll ever hear.
“I was in a Jaffa Cake factory, right,” he clicked his tongue before continuing, making an effort to recall all the details “and you were there, too, of course. We were both wearing tangerine suits, whilst Price was throwing potatoes at us, telling us to get back to work and whatnot - no joke.”
Bf!Soap has occasional cooking contests with you. You pick random ingredients, and each of you have to create a dish using those ingredients. Both of you fail oh so miserably- you’ve nearly burnt down your house numerous times. Maybe you guys should stick to Tesco meal deals and Deliveroo.😔
A/N: Sorry if I yibber-yabber too much in my writing… I just love going into detail.🤞

A review of Veilguard from a long time, die hard fan of Dragon Age
When the review embargo on Veilgurd was lifted, I found it hard to take any review at face value. Dragon Age is unfortunately the one series I am very pretentious about, and I can’t trust reviews from people who aren’t huge Dragon Age fans like I am and who don’t hold the same views as me -- those views being, to keep it short, that Anders was right and justified, that he is one of the most tragic characters in the entire series, that he is a hero, that Bioware’s writing can be shockingly biased at times in the wrong ways, and that Inquisition is really not that good at all. These opinions have a lot of weight in whether I will listen to someone about Dragon Age matters. And I haven’t see a proper review from someone like this -- though granted as soon as the game came out I locked down and refused to look at anything in fear of spoilers lol.
This review will be spoilers free, and there will be an addition at some point with all the spoilers and what I think about specific story details, because I have so much to say.
The TL;DR? It’s a good game. If you like Dragon Age like I do, you’ll like it. If you open your heart to it, you’ll love it. It was made with love.
This will be divided in section based on people’s biggest worries about the game and how much I have to say about each of them.
The art direction
Honestly I was a defender of the art style as soon as the trailers started coming out and my opinion has not changed lol. Dragon Age was never exactly known for its graphics - Origins and DA2 look… okay. And Inquisition was fine for its time but has aged like the most rotten milk you could find. Its environments are still pretty, but its characters, man… I’m sorry, it just hasn’t aged well. Frostbite engine did not help Bioware in this case. They’ve spoken about how it was a new engine for them and how they struggled with it and it shows.
This game? Oh boy, yeah, no, I can believe they got a handle of Frostbite now. It is breathtaking. The environments are crafted so meticulously and with so much love, the lighting is beautiful and that’s even without RTX (because I’m in the AMD gang and can’t splurge on Nvidia lol). Many many times I would stop and go into photo mode either to take screenshots or to just admire the world around me. I’d spam screenshot in cutscenes, too. The character animations are good, especially the facial expressions -- though the body animations remain a tad stiff, like everyone’s got a broom up their ass and forgot their spine can bend and move. It’s not that big of a deal, but I did notice it a couple times.
You can tell Bioware had fun both with character design and with the environments, now that they’re free of Ferelden’s basic medieval england looking ass. You grow attached to the beautiful and lively environments. Treviso has got to be my favorite, but there’s a lot for everyone in there.
And no, the smoother art style does not make the game less dark. If anything, some of the enemy redesigns really help make the game scarier. The first time I was faced with the blight in game, even though I’d seen it in all of the promotional screenshots and trailers -- I was horrified and sickened by just how gross they made it look (and sound.). I promise you, you shouldn’t be scared of that.
The emotional moments sold well even “in spite of” the art style. I don’t know, it’s hard for me to even understand people’s worries about that. Not everything’s got to be hyper-realistic, ya’ll.
The combat system
That IS one thing I was a tad worried about, when we first saw it. It looked good, but it was definitely a departure from what we were used to.
Honestly, to sell my point, we have to look at the previous games’ combat system. I don’t actually know if there’s a specific name for this style aside from, idk, “CRPG combat” lol. I like to refer to it as MMORPG combat because you mostly see it in MMOs now, I feel. Your character cycles through a bunch of basic combat animations for basic attacks, and has a lot of abilities to throw in combat which can synergise which each other. DAO had the best system, but DA2 felt best to play due to the updated and dynamic animations and faster paced combat. DAI had the weakest both due to the way they overhauled the classes (especially mages) and made us lose fan-favorite specialisations (spirit healer and blood mage) with not much in exchange. It was simplified and a bit sluggish, in my opinion. It missed the strategy imposed by DAO as well as the punch from DA2.
And of course, there’s the battle tactics. You get to basically program companion AIs and can chain some really, really good combos with them. It’s really fun once you get the hang of it, but let’s be real: very few people did. Very few people actually used them, as good of a system as it was.
This combat system… has aged a tad, unfortunately. It doesn’t fit today’s gaming landscape, but even if it did… It would need more to land, I think, if they kept it as it was. Something to make it feel less sluggish, more intense, more involved. Make the attacks FEEL like they land and hit and hurt the enemy. Because the harsh truth is, although DAO has the most in depth combat system of all of the games -- it also has numerous popular mods to skip combat entirely.
Combat in Veilguard feels really, really good. When I first started I often found myself grinning, going “oh HELL yeah” at the screen, because it felt so good. I almost raised the difficulty a few times because I wanted combat to last longer because it just felt so damn good. I do wish it was a bit deeper, especially in the case of combos, but it remained nonetheless fun to cycle through abilities and companions depending on the area and type of enemies I was fighting. It feels more action-y, but it isn’t a damn hack n slash like I’ve seen people say lol. Have none of these people ever heard of the term action RPG or what. Because that’s what Veilguard is. It’s an action RPG and there’s nothing wrong with that.
I think Bioware always kind of wanted to move towards this, as well. Since DAO, Dragon Age felt like it kept its combat system not because it was the most fitting for the games Bioware wanted to make, but because they “had to”. Because it was right for the genre. Because it’s what players expect. Because they’d get backlash if they didn’t. But they finally decided to change it, and I think it’s right, for Veilguard. I think Bioware had fun making this system, and it is very much extremely fun to play.
My only wish is for spirit healer and blood mage specialisation to come back, and for companion leveling up to have been deeper and more varied. They basically have set abilities that you level up and though you can change some aspects of them, that’s it. But it remains a good system. I liked it. I genuinely have really enjoyed fighting in this game and will be exploring all classes and specialisations thoroughly in my next replays, as well as exploring every difficulty.
The writing
It’s fine. It’s brilliant, at times. Cringy, at others. And you want to know a secret?
You could say that about every god damn Dragon Age game, lol.
I’ve recently -- as in, very recently -- replayed the whole series in preparations for Veilguard. Not only did it have cringe-worthy moments in all games, but some even made me grimaces. DAO is staggeringly misogynistic both for its time and for its setting: You are told in the character creator that men and women are equal in Thedas only to constantly face outward sexism at every turn. It’s shocking. As for DA2, it’s weirdly mean spirited. It calls a lot of its characters crazy and makes fun of them for the meanest fucking reasons. It has a character who fights for his people’s freedom approve of you when you give another character over to a slaver, for fuck’s sake lol. It is very mean. This one is the most “product of its time” of all three, because DAO was misogynistic even for its time lol. And DAI… well, DAI is bland and lacks depth and feeling ina almost everything lmfao.
Veilguard holds your hand a lot, especially in the beginning, and kind of babies you at times. It also suffers from painful expository moments. Thing is, I feel for Bioware: They have three games and dozens of side media’s worth of lore to explain to you, and have to keep in mind not only that some players will have never heard of Dragon Age, or that some have only played the games and never touched the side media, or that they played the games a whole DECADE ago and can’t remember shit. It’s hard. I would’ve done better lol but it IS difficult. I feel for them.
Some things are a little less excusable, like the game REALLY holding your hand through a couple puzzles and through the fact that you need to focus on companions and do their quests etc. A part of me wonders if it came out of playtesting, or something. It definitely took me out of it a little bit, not gonna lie. It felt quite jarring.
There’s a couple other things, like having far too much telling in places. I’d also have liked to do some of the cool stuff my Rook does in cutscenes within actual gameplay, lol. And there were beats where I was left thinking “... that’s it?”, which is never good.
The codex entries are great and interesting though. Only game in the franchise where I read every single codex entries I found (AND I FOUND ALMOST ALL OF THEM!!!!). A lot of them are fascinating, but more are just very sweet or funny, and they help build the characters and the world.
And my god, those characters are ALIVE. I truly understand when Bioware said they really put emphasis on the companions. There are so many cute banters, a lot of which you can catch in the lighthouse, as well as little scenes that mostly serve to humanise the companions and make them feel alive. Not only that, but you also get attached to a lot of NPCs -- and I do mean a lot. Each faction has NPCs I cared for deeply, and you always just get to visit them and talk to them, even if it’s just them saying a line or two of dialogue at you. It still helps to build a relationship with them, and care for them. And your companions interact with them sometimes, too! And they have history! It makes the world genuinely feel so much more alive and makes you feel so much more involved than you were in DAI! They manage to transform from pixels on a screen there to give you quests to actual characters with rich lives and feelings that you want to see succeed.
I romanced Lucanis and he is by far my favorite of the companions, but I love all of them. This means it’s the first game in the series where I genuinely really love all the companions. There was always one, maybe two, in each game whom I didn’t care much about or which pissed me off -- but they’re all immensely likeable here, and I care so much about not only my Rook’s relationship to them, but their relationships to each other. And there’s so many little banters, notes, and codex entries which helps further their bond and makes them feel like roommates. It’s very sweet and enjoyable.
I also love my Rook a lot. I played mostly as a sarcastic Rook who was very impulsive and wasn’t afraid to speak their feelings out. There are times you can express genuine fear, hurt, or anger at certain NPCs or situations, and the line delivery really carries it. They felt alive and involved, so much more than the Inquisitor ever did. My Rook has a personality, and not only that, but the way the factions were integrated was really nice. I played as an elven mage grey warden, and each of those bits came up a lot. I’m a bit miffed that you don’t get to choose whether you were dalish or city elf, and more miffed that the game/npcs try to explain dalish lore at you even when you put a wholeass vallaslin on your character, but aside from that I’m rather pleased with the integration of the faction. I imagine some factions (lords of fortune) got the shorter end of the stick - but playing as a grey warden was deeply rewarding in this game. Rook can make comment about it in dialogue, in banter, and other characters mention it too. I got to discuss the joining with another warden, and my Rook commented a few things about their time in the order. And it made my friendship with Davrin mean so much more, too. It also made every plot point involving the wardens hit like a TRUCK.
And my god, do some of the missions in this game hit like a truck. The villains are believably terrifying. This isn’t Corypheus 2.0. I hadn’t felt this level of dread in Dragon Age since DAO. Some missions especially have rocked me to my core, and some of them I consider to be absolute masterpieces (Weisshaupt, my god Weisshaupt. My favorite mission in any Bioware game, period.) I wish the last boss had been scarier and stronger, though. I felt it did fall short in regards to that. Funny enough a lot of the side bosses were harder than main bosses. That was a bit sad. But yes, Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain feel like gods that you are facing. It is so much better than DAI in that regard.
The game does make you care deeply about everything happening, I can promise you that. And it manages to make even vehement Solas haters like him. I used to be a Solas hater back in 2014/2015, though I did mellow out over my replays. By my last Inquisition replay I did come around to him and was just mildly annoyed at how popular he was because I still found him overhyped, mostly because he suffered from DAI’s bland writing. But Veilguard makes you care for him, and elicits a lot of strong reactions towards him. He’s made me cheer, and also made me feel extreme anger, and then a lot of sympathy. He’s a marvelously complex character and one of Bioware’s best. He went from being one of my least favorite characters to one of my favorites - potentially even top 10 material. This is high praise for me lol.
The matter of bringing choices in is…. Well, not gonna lie, a few events I was like “hm, no this wouldn’t happen in my world state” or “oh I wish they took in account past choices for this scene/plot point”. It remains an extremely baffling choice from Bioware and I remain really pissed off about it, lol.
The Inquisitor was fine. I’m not attached to the Inquisitor, so I’m not able to make many comments about them. I’ve seen other people who ARE attached feel happy about their inclusion, so I’d go with that. There were a few nice moments.
Act 3 is absolutemy amazing, also. It's engaging and terrifying and broke my heart several times. I do not cry easily but I was left sobbing and whimpering at Bioware lmfao. Granted, it was my first playthrough, and my emotions were heightened by having a new Dragon Age game after so long. But I do think Act 3 is just... really, really good. It gets the point of the game across very well, too.
The lore
This… is where the game falls short the most, for me.
Don’t get me wrong: we get a LOT of new lore and a lot of it is insanely satisfying when you’ve been in the trenches for a decade and had tons of theories. A lot of discoveries left me buzzing with thoughts, new theories, ideas, and excitement. It was exhilarating.
But there’s many points where, as a guy who just casually reads the lore books for fun, I was left saying “uh, no, that’s not true” to “that doesn’t make any fucking sense”. Mostly, a lot of my issues comes with the integration of the politics of the game. Dragon age has always been a political series, in the sense that the politics of Thedas are just as important as any threat we face in the game. And for like 15 years, the north was built up in a certain way -- and in many aspects, Veilguard does deliver. In others, it feels like it glosses over very important lore, or just tries to gaslight you into thinking you were wrong all along. Some of it is clever recontextualising that I did appreciate, considering all the lore we DO know is in universe, which means biased by the areas we learn the lore from. But there are a few times where the lore breaks took me out of the game and felt very immersion breaking.
Unfortunately I can’t go to much further into this without spoiling anything, but it’s definitely where I was the most disappointed. It’s small things, it’s always small things, but it’s definitely made me either raise my eyebrows or be very disappointed at times. I’ve already spoken about a bit of it in previous posts, and need to write something lengthy about magic specifically. Just beware that if you are insane about the lore, it is where the game will fall short at points. But it will also offer you amazing lore in turn, so you know. It’s a balancing act.
It feels like the writing has mellowed out in this aspect. It makes me wonder how different the past games would be, if written by these people. How different this game would've been, if it was written by past writers. Only game where I've gone "wait why am I not getting hate crimed right now".
Also the secret post credit scene sucks entire ass and ruins everything lmfao I am ignoring it entirely.
There’s obviously a lot more I want to say about many things. I want to talk about Lucanis, about Taash, about Emmrich, about Harding -- about everyone, really. But that’ll be for further, spoiler-full posts.
I’ll also save some more in depth review for a later post because I wanna go play dolls in the character creator again.

Flat colors- includes lineart and simple coloring, no shadows/source of light;
Shaded- includes lineart, more detailed coloring compared to flat colors, simple lighting/one source of light;
Painting- either pieces with no lineart (regardless of type of lighting), or those which have lineart + complex lighting/two or more sources of light.
You can see more of my art on my blog tagged as #myart. If you find a style you like but is not sure of which category it fits in, just ask me!

How do you feel about the live action so far? Personally, I like some of the changes they made but I miss Katara’s whole character and I don’t think Ozai’s characterization works very well.
I'm enjoying it as an adaptation. There are also things that disappoint me about it as an adaptation, but I still think I am enjoying it as an adaptation more than i would have if I had just watched it as if were an original story, with no knowledge of the original series. It lacks a lot of the things that made the original series stand out. It kind of pains me to say it, because they tried, they really did. They tried with the bending, and a lot of it is impressive and clearly inspired by the original. But it still is not as impressive as the original. Part of that is because of the fact that it's not new, part of it is the change in medium. Part of it is just that the magic isn't there.
I keep thinking about, for example, Aang's fight scenes. Don't get me wrong, the LA does a great job. They clearly thought everything out. Gordon is great. The martial arts moves are nicely choreographed and clearly inspired by the original. The effects are nice. But Aang still doesn't feel like an airbender the way he did in the original. A large part of this is that they are working with real people and a more realistic medium. The actors just can't be as naturally dynamic as animated characters. Every airbending move Aang does has to be done with special effects and deliberate shots and there's just so much work that needs to go into it that a lot of the casual airbending Aang does in the original is gone. And this isn't so much a criticism because I recognize that this has to come with the change of medium. But, as I said, it does diminish some of the magic of the original. The same reason we don't get, for example, Zuko blowing smoke through his nostrils. The side effect is that he doesn't feel as connected to his element.
I'm a big fan of animation as an art form, and the things I mentioned about the original ATLA? That is animation as an art form at its essence. We get a sense of who a character is just by their stance, or how they move, and the artist uses their medium to convey it without words. The actors do a lot to try and make up for it, but you're still inevitably going to lose something in the translation.
See my previous post for my thoughts about Ozai based on the first four episodes I've seen. Katara is another sore point for me. She feels like such a non-character here, there's nothing really memorable about her. She's not offensive, but she's not anything special, either, and it is a shame since she's such an iconic character for the series as a whole. I'm not here for discourse about how she needs to be more feminine or more angry or more etc. etc. etc. But what they've given us is just so bland that if I didn't already know the character I probably would think nothing of her at all.
As an original story, the live action series seems to lack direction. As I said, if I hadn't watched the original show I would probably have gotten bored by now because of having no real sense of who a lot of these characters are or where they are going or what the stakes of this story are.
I'm mostly enjoying the show as an adaptation that can bring me some new perspectives on these characters, the way I would a fanfic that has its hit or miss moments. Then I can take those things and add them to my own fanfics and metas and thoughts about these characters and this world.

Ello it's me for the event hehehehe so here I go.
Description: I'm a serious person, but (tho I hate to admit it T-T) I'm pretty soft and fluffy when you get to know me more. I'm particularly excitable when it comes to my special interests like anime/games. I do karate, and I'm into martial arts in general. I dislike really obnoxious and loud people, but if they're too quiet it just becomes awkward. So someone in the middle would be nice. Name is Robin. Nickname is Robbi.
I'm a lee leaning switch :)
Fandom: Genshin Impact cause why not
Relationship: hmmm romantic cause why not >:)
With a boi pleaseeee :D
Hello hello, my dear cutie, thanks for participating in my event ^_^✨️ I'm super happy to do someone for you so I really hope you enjoy!! 🍡 *some dango for you, too*
🔮 So... for the match-up, your pair is... HEIZOU 🩵💚
Tumblr media
🔮 Why did I choose him for you?
• You're serious and a good listener, which means that Heizou could tell you about his cases or ask you for an opinion • I totally see him getting overwhelmed by a case and you distracting him! Then when he's calmer, you'd go through the materials and clues to make him see the situation from your own perspective • Probably a tickle fight would be a great distraction (maybe even your favorite, for both you and him) • Heizou's combat style is based on martial arts, which is another thing you have in common!!! I can imagine you two training together or even trading techniques!!! • I'm sure he'd be delighted to tickle a certain technique out of you if you don't wanna tell him hehe~ • Heizou isn't particularly loud, but he's extroverted (and super teasy 😳🫣) so he can be a great match for you because he isn't overwhelming but not too quiet either • He's a detective, so he'd be perceptive of your mood even without you telling me (and trust me, it can be useful when you're an INTJ) • I'm 100% sure that Heizou would be able to bring out your fluffy and soft side... I can already see you snuggling together when you get in bed after a long day • I'm quite sure that he'd be able to sneak some cuddly tickles while enjoying the little moment of affection before going to bed... and it would be his pleasure to tire you out with a good tickle attack if you don't wanna go to bed • This detective is so nice... I'm sure he'd be delighted and honored to spend time with you playing games or watching anime!!! • His favorites would be Detective Conan and Yuukoku no Moriarty hehe • He has a very teasy personality, as I've already said, but he's also super goofy... which is why I see him as a ler-leaning switch and a perfect match for you 🩵
🔮 Tickle scenario
"Ummm... are you sure this is what Madame Kujou Sara told you to do..?" You looked at your lover quizzically, "Of course it is! It's a very effective training passed on by the Shuumatsuban itself" Heizou was quick to reply. "Would you really deny me your precious help, RobbiBabe..?" He used the nickname he invented just for you and gave you those puppy eyes you could never say no to.
"No, no..! It just sounds a little weird, that's all..." you were still perplexed, but you were too weak to Heizou's pleading eyes to say no to him. It was unfair how such a mischievous and cunning person could be so cute... He really had you wrapped around his pinky finger.
"Great! So, I'll explain you again what you gotta do." The detective started, every trace of sadness or plead gone from his face. "You have to pretend to be a criminal who has stolen something precious, and I'll try to get the location of the stolen goods out of you through an interrogation. This will help me to be quicker and more efficient when I'll actually interrogate someone!"
"Umm... fine, let me think about a place where I'd hide something..." you said while your brain gears were working to create a realistic scenario.
After a couple of minutes, you tell Heizou you're ready and give him permission to start this 'interrogation training'. He was taking this scenario very seriously, and it almost scared you how ominous he seemed when he looked at you as if you were a criminal, but after a while, you got more confident and even dared to give him sassy answers and witty remark. Even Heizou was somewhat impressed by how much you seemed to enjoy yourself.
However, you couldn't imagine what your lover was planning...
"Fine," he said at some point, "I guess I'll have to use drastic measures if you don't wanna talk to me. And I even asked nicely..." The look he gave you was threatening and almost disappointed, even if it was an act.
Before you knew it, a pair of mischievous hands were latched on your sides and squeezing firmly but softly. "Gh- aaaaeeeeehh..! W-what are you-" You started squirming in your seat, shivering when you heard a low chuckle coming from 'your interrogator'.
"I think you know what I'm doing, Robin..." The way the detective pronounced your full name made your eyes widen, "the Shuumatsuban is usually rougher when it comes to getting the truth out of someone... but torture is technically legal and I'm not part of the Shuumatsuban, so I gotta find an alternative way to make you talk. Tell me, criminal, are you ticklish?"
You tried your best, but you gave in way more easily than you wanted to admit to yourself. "Aaaahehehehehehe nohohoho!!!" You started squirming in your seat, but you did your best to remain still. "No? You aren't? Then this interrogation should be a piece of cake for you~" He said casually, as if his hands weren't slowly walking towards your most ticklish spot.
Your eyes widened in terror when you realized where they were going. "NO!!! Wahahahahait pleheheaha- NAHAHAHAHAT THEHEHERE NOHOHOHOOOO" You didn't even try to hold back your laughter when your feet were targeted mercilessly.
"IHIHIHI GIHIHIVEEE!!! IHIHI'LL TALK!!!" You pleaded, but you didn't expect your boyfriend to stop tickling you and start laughing boisterously. "Pfft- hahahahahaha I can't believe you really bought the interrogation training excuse!" He saw your perplexed face and explained better.
"I noticed you've been awfully serious this week, so I decided to find a way to make you unwind and have you cooperate with me~" You pouted, but you couldn't deny he was right... and you had enjoyed yourself a lot to be honest...
That evening finished with you two snuggling and kissing sweetly on the couch, and Heizou was unaware of the pair of hands that was making his way towards his bare, exposed ribs...

Someone just sent me this video as proof of mermaids. What do you think?
https://m.youtube.com/watch?si=6qzPbxW4qmJ7A_Ha&fbclid=IwAR0D0z3uX9Hj0V3AeAGgvyhRTGBmdsCCeGe4yrWehYHV0MFRddF4fiJ3XcQ&v=S4vNaAAcPXM&feature=youtu.be
In general, if you see photographs or footage of a supposed strange creature, it's probably either a staged hoax, a case of mistaken identity, or an art piece or film project taken out of context.
The Vladaya mermaid is literally just a prop from Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides. It was pretty obviously not real just from watching the footage, too - it was oddly stiff and rubbery, and very clearly designed to look aesthetically pleasing.
The creature under the sheet is obviously just a normal sea animal, under a sheet.
The Indian "mermaid creature" is another obvious fake. Like come on, the paint job isn't even that good. It's a half-assed airbrush job.
Now let's take a moment to ask ourselves what we should really find and what we could expect to happen if mermaids really do exist, and people actually were finding bodies. Let's just set aside for the moment that the body plan of a mermaid is based more on our aesthetic preferences than what would actually be suitable for the water. (And yes, this also includes the "realistic" mermaids with scaly skin and pointy teeth and all that. They aren't much better than the ones that look like Ariel or Cleo Sertori.)
First of all, we wouldn't just have these random videos and pictures popping up with nothing ever coming of the supposed discoveries. Samples would be sent to actual laboratories, where they would examine the bodies and confirm that they were indeed from an actual creature. Literally everything about them would be studied, from their organs to their DNA.
We should also expect to find mermaid fossils. After all, we find fossils for seals and whales. We should also expect to find mermaid skeletons, both in water and on the beach. We might also expect to find mermaid artifacts and signs of mermaid habitation in aquatic environments.
Now, I know some of you reading this are going to be thinking, "nuh-uh, mermaids obviously live in the dark parts of the ocean we haven't explored yet!" But if we're going to take all of this old folklore and mythology as a basis for thinking mermaids exist, as people are wont to do, then it's pretty damned obvious that if they do, they don't actually live that far out from the shore. If anything, loads of them live in relatively small freshwater bodies, so... yeah, they shouldn't be hard to find, if they actually physically exist.
(Which, they obviously don't, if you know anything about biology and how environment directs evolution. Nothing in the ocean is shaped like humans for a reason.)

HI HELLO i had another lil idea for Eclipse and Rays where he reads him a story! I wrote it as an experimental warm up so it's just a fluffy quick thing gjfg
~~~
It was a slow day. At least for Eclipse. He was currently down in the theatre, mindlessly fiddling with a rubix cube as he waited for Rays to finish his rumaging through the Lost and Found in the basement area.
The others were busy as usual, Sun in the daycare with Lunar, Moon out doing whatever and Bloodmoon were currently out in the woods to expel some pent up energy. While the bloodstone had been doing its job at keeping the bloodlust at bay, the twins still got antsy if not allowed to stay active.
Peforming in the theatre was usually enough, but today they wanted to run around more in an open space. And if any unfortunate hikers happened to be around then.. well Eclipse had the towels and clean up supplies at the ready just in case.
A small soft voice caught Eclipse's attention breaking him from his idle thoughts and the no complete cube, turning to look at Rays who was standing with a little book in hand. So he was finished already?
'Pardon?'
Rays flinched and drew in on himself a little. 'I… I found something. I was wondering if you would be… able to read it for me?'
The smaller animatronic timidly held up the book for Eclipse to see better. He squinted at it for a moment, and raised an eyebrow.
'Tales of Peter Rabbit?' he asked, trying his best to keep the faint incredulous tone from his words. 'You want me to read you a book for children?'
Rays looked down at the book, an expression of uncertainty growing on his scarred face. 'It has nice pictures… I'd like to know the story behind them. I-If it's not too much trouble..'
Eclipse sighed, pocketing the cube. 'No it's fine. I can do that. You all done then?'
A small nod. 'Alright. Lets head back up.'
Eclipse was thankful that the secret doorway leading to the room had been refurbished for use. The sounds of the kids playing in the daycare was loud and Eclipse was not in the mood for the headache.
Plus Rays was seeming a bit more skittish today, if the way he jolted at a distant childs scream of playful joy was anything to go by.
Either way, they made it back to the room without issue. As they entered, Rays scuttled on over to his little corner, grabbing an extra blanket before plopping onto one of Lunar's giant beanbags.
Eclipse soon followed, and settled down next to to the yellow animatronic who offered Eclipse the extra blanket. Ah so that's why he went and grabbed it despite already having one draped around his shoulders. He accepted it anyway, placing it over his legs instead.
'Alright, hand me the book.'
Rays complied and Eclipse inspected it for a moment as Rays settled in by his side. A quick flip through the pages did confirm to Eclipse that it did in fact have some nice art.
He had been expecting brightly coloured cartoon animals like most modern day kids stuff. These ones were more realistic and earthy toned in colour. Not bad. Easier on the eyes at least. Or… eye in his case.
Anyway.
'Ready?' He asked. Rays nodded and plopped his chin onto Eclipse's arm, his mismatched eyes staring eagerly at the little blue book. Eclipse snorted softly, allowing his other arm to wrap around the smaller animatronic as he began reading.
'Then old Mrs. Rabbit took a basket and her umbrella, to the baker's. She bought a loaf of brown bread and five currant buns.
Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail, who were good little bunnies, went down the lane to gather blackberries;
But Peter, who was very naughty, ran straight away to Mr. McGregor's garden and squeezed under the gate!'
'…What a little asshole.'
THE FUCKING
‘Or eye in his case’
‘What a little asshole’
SENT ME 😭
I love this so much. They make me so happy. I want to pick them up in my hands and squish them like sponges. I want to shake them around like toys. Eclipse reading to Rays is my entire life now and I thank you for this scrumptious meal.
i want to clear the air, so this is the last you'll ever hear from me. i don't hate zenitsu because he's autistic-coded; far from it, actually. i just think he (and most others in the demon slayer cast tbph) is a poorly written character. in fact, if he's truly meant to be autistic representation, then then it makes the way he's treated and handled in the story that much worse to me. his meltdowns and otherwise dysregulated behavior are used largely for the sake of a punchline and -with the exception of tanjiro and maybe inosuke- the people around him either see him as a joke or are otherwise baffled by his existence, which is also used for comedy and not to make him feel like a sympathetic character. he's the butt of many a joke and that's about it, save for the few moments that buck that trend and make him more sympathetic. and while every character in demon slayer is about as deep as a 14 year old's self-insert sonic oc, zenitsu hasn't really shown much personal growth since his introduction, something he himself explicitly acknowledges in season 4. as a fellow autistic who to an extent also struggles with emotional regulation, i found his character personally insulting sometimes, so i think he's bad representation. if you love him, that's great and i love that for you, but he doesn't do it for me. to further clarify, i've only seen the anime and don't have any interest in the manga or light novels, and since that's going to be representative of most people's experience with this story, it bears mentioning because it will form the basis of their opinions as it has mine.
i want to apologize for causing you emotional distress in the first place by posting character hate in a fandom tag. i have actively avoided fandom spaces for over a decade, preferring mostly to just enjoy stories on my own and only occasionally post about them, so i broke one of the cardinal rules of engagement, and i'm sorry. it and my follow up ask were immature of me, so i apologize for that too. i hope you can understand a bit better where i'm coming from, even if we don't or won't see eye to eye on this. take care, and i hope you have a good rest of your week <3
Okay, thank you for that.
I'm not gonna touch the "poorly written" thing because bad/good writing is subjective, like all art is.
I really don't think he's treated as a punchline? Sure, some of his traits are played for laughs, but that can be said about Tanjiro's autistic coding. And Inosuke's autistic coding. And Muichiro's autistic coding. And Giyuu's autistic coding. And autistic coded characters from other media. (For what it's worth, I don't think Zenitsu's autistic coded on purpose; autistic coded characters rarely are).
Zenitsu IS seen as weird by other characters in canon, I'll give you that, but that's...reality for autistic people. It's not just Tanjiro and Inosuke who treat him decently, either. Shinobu treats him decently. While Aoi gets annoyed by his refusal to take his medicine, she doesn't treat him as less of a person, either. Kyojuro didn't treat him poorly. Jigoro didn't treat him poorly and loves him dearly. I'd honestly take far more issue with his portrayal if his friends and surrogate family found him impossible to deal with and acted like they barely tolerate him. But they don't.
(This is also Taisho era Japan; even in modern times, I think Zenitsu would get treated poorly by most people due to his autistic traits).
As an autistic person, I saw him and was like "he's just like me fr" and found a lot of comfort in his character. Granted, I'm also fully aware that if I were a fictional character, I'd be considered bad autistic rep.
I also appreciate that he WANTS to change, but has a hard time doing so, which is pretty realistic, imo.
I don't agree that he hasn't shown much personal growth, either. He grows a bit more confident and brave after season 1, he stands up to Daki while knowing she was a demon, and he can handle solo missions now. Also, his arc isn't over yet. But again, art is subjective, so to each their own.
I appreciate where the apology, and I do think I understand where you're coming from. I hope you have a good rest of your week, too!
My rant about AI art and comics.
Hadn't really expected to ever write a post about this, but here I am. Also, I'm not a native english speaker, so there might be grammar mistakes.
This is just my opinion. If you don't want to read it, skip this post.
The topic of AI "art" was brought by conversation with my teacher, who's a big fan of comics (and I don't mean superhero comics, he's more fond of detective stories). He mentioned a comic which was made using an AI, which he thought of as insulting. And I agree with him.
For an artist, whose style was inspired by various comics I've read, this is an insult. Making a comic is not as simple as writing "make a page of comic with this and this and this" or writing a short script and sending it to AI with "create a comic out of this". Making a comic is a process of both creating the story and the visuals - either by one person or a team - where you're making sure that art enhances your story just as much as dialogue, where each scene conveys emotions you want it to convey.
My teacher and I agreed, that, just like with other mediums of art, you can recognize the artist even if they decide to switch styles. There is a way with which they use draw their lines that makes it recognizable.
Think of manga for a moment, where each mangaka has their distinct way of drawing things - you will know it's even if it's a different series or if they paint something (like cover) instead of drawing it. True, mangakas might have assistants who are good at replicating that style. And if two mangakas draw the same character (good example is BNHA's spinoff series Vigilantes) there are either big or subtle differences. This is even more visible in western superhero comics, with many artists working on the same series; sometimes the style changes every few issues.
It's not just drawings or comics. If you're a big fan of one guitarist, you'll also be able to recognize them even if they play something completely different than what they normally play.
An artist's style reflects their mastery and experience. It's rarely perfect, it doesn't need to be. First artist will use pencil and lean on hatching as shadows, second will prefer painting with broad strokes, third will work digitally and render semi-realistically. I don't follow many artists online, being mostly into traditional art, but let me ask: It's easy to recognize a piece by SamDoesArts, isn't it?
Now, AI doesn't have a single style they follow, nor does it have experience. It's taught by being fed art made by us, humans, and emulates it.
Kinda similar to mangaka's assistant, but an assistant knows what a specific thing should look like. AI makes mistakes no human would - it's all in details, where some things blend together instead of being separate, the deph in those pieces is plain wrong. Even a small kid knows that when the cat is behind tree, they draw cat behind tree, not cat blending into tree - they might draw cat a little too close, or a little too big, or it's legs are too long, or their cat is made of crude shapes - but you can see a CAT BEHIND A TREE. Tree and cat are separate entities. That's one argument - AI blending things together.
Another is that, where humans usually keep to one style or make multiple styles harmonious with each other, AI mashes those together. The bigger pieces produced/spat out by AI might have this issue. One side may be in style based on Jujutsu Kaisen, the other on Berserk - what's the difference, it's all anime, isn't it? It doesn't notice a difference, anime was requested, anime it will give.
There's also people who want something drawn in "anime style" and make the same argument - that anime is a singular style. At this point, I'm tired of explaining to people in real life that anime is animated, manga is drawn; and that comics differ depending on their place of origin. That's for different rant.
Hell, this post isn't even covering that, to train their AI, corporations commited copyright infringement.
Anyway, now for reason why I even started ranting. EMOTIONS. AI can't convey emotions properly.
For this post, I found an AI comic (if you want to read it, look it up - I don't want to link or promote it) and I looked through Twitter's (not calling it X) ai art community. It was to make a small experiment. I called it "How many times I spot the same lack of emotion?" and felt some vindictive pleasure to see my hypothesis proven.
Do you know how hard it is not to convey emotions in art? I have one specific character that is supposed to stay stone-faced, but I either fail or on drawing it seems that this character looks bored. I tried to draw specific things that didn't convey much emotion - did I succeed? I don't know. Even quick sketches convey emotion - from expression to the pose. That emotion may be boredom, but it's still there. And we all look for those emotions.
In my expreriment I looked over pieces featuring people and mentally checked off my list of possible drawn emotions. There was little variety, mostly the same "expressionlessness" that can sometimes be mixed up with boredom. The characters just stare straight at viewer (me in this one) or stare ahead if it's in profile. With those souless eyes - because I couldn't see any emotion in this faraway look, the face didn't scrunch up at all like a person's would.
The comic was even worse. I had to ignore my mind recoiling at inconsistent design of characters and enviroment, as well as horrible layout of scenes and speech balloons (which I could make into another argument) (mind you, the style itself would've looked rather appealing had it not been for those things). I focused on main character's emotions. There. Were. None.
Just like other AI generated graphics, she stared at the viewer in 90% of the scenes. The same smight curl of lips, the same fake fucking smile that doesn't reach eyes as she spoke of horrors (it's supposed to be post-apocalyptic setting). Not ONCE have I seen any variety to her expression. No quirk of lips, no crincling in corner of the eye, nothing.
I finished looking through the comic even more disappointed than I had already been.
On quick glance for someone who knows jack shit about visual storytelling, it would look good. For me it's just shit. I don't know a lot about history of comics, hell, I know little about comics outside of those I've read; but I know enough about drawing emotions that I think only the most ignorant people would praise that abomination.
Those are my closing statements.
Comics are medium of art between pictures and books. They can be interesting, beautiful, humorous and remarkable - both visually and as stories.
To anyone, who reads comics, have fun reading them. To anyone who wants to read them, go find something you'd like. To anyone, who doesn't read comics, you don't have to, but don't hate on them.
To anyone, who draws comics, you are incredible. To anyone, who wants to draw comics, I encourage you to try. To anyone, who thinks they lack the skills to draw comics but wants to, I recommend you start learning and craft stories - you can use anything as characters. Stickmen, animals, robots, vehicles, rocks, kitchen utensils, etc.
Just please, don't generate comics using AI.
Thank you for reading.
The thing is I never had any problems that Soma ended up being ambiguous and if anything I used to like it for that reason. It's the same reason why I loved Houtarou and Chitanda in the Hyouka anime since it ended realistically with Houtarou just coming to terms with his crush to symbolize how much he has changed as a person; he isn't as apathetic now and started desiring that 'rose-colored' life he previously didn't want. There's finally passion in his heart unlike before. But he's young and the series has a very down-to-earth approach to life so of course it's much more realistic that Houtarou won't hurriedly make a move as serious as admitting he wanted to date the resident Oujou and all the expectations that'd come with it. Dating Chitanda would mean he has to be prepared to be her husband which means committing to be a part of her family of farmers, which might mean having limit in his future career options. It's what the whole 'One Way Road' convo is all about. So of course, the anime just ends with Chitanda and Houtarou just staring ahead metaphorically into the future.
However despite technically both of them being similar in nature (they never got together, it's all just UST in the end and it's up to fans to resolve it) I've never seen people getting as angry and 'traumatized' seeing Houtarou and Eru never technically ending up together the way I've seen people with Soma?
I mean come on these are practically the same scene
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
So why the absolute rage and trauma? Is it because that damn old interview Ohkubo did? (Good job Ohkubo. Why would you alienate the fanbase like that. You shoulda kept your mouth shut, huh)
I know there's a difference with HoutaEru in that they're definitely semi-canon with even Houtarou admitting he has a crush in the end (though apparrently Houtarou's crush isn't as apparent in the novels. It was the anime that made it undeniable) while with Soma you kinda need to read between the lines more and while it's more apparrent on Maka's side it was never made clear if she even realized it unlike Houtarou's case. So it does feel a little more frustrating I suppose and you can't really call it a 'semi-canon' ship as a result. But come on, in either case it never really matters doesn't it. People will still make art and fics wether or not a ship is canon, hell, there are huge fandoms of downright impossible ships like Jack and Elsa that don't even belong to the same franchise or even company. Plus, it's not like soma is Ichiruki since they're both single by the end of the story and are depicted to still be together, the ship doesn't sink at least and it's not going against canon to imagine them becoming official right after the ending (if anything with the way it ended, Soma is actually more optimistic and can actually do just that shortly after the ending. Unlike HoutaEru where it's clear that Houtarou and Eru would need to do lots of growing and thinking first before they can be sure dating each other is worth it with the whole 'One Way Road' convo. Soma can just start to date the night after they went back from the coronation party and it's completely plausible since practically nothing is stopping them as far as we can tell)
All in all, so why all the crying and debate? Or is it because most fans haven't read the manga and we needed another anime adaptation to make all those ship tease moments much more apparrent so no one can deny these two are very close to canon actually?
please can you be more specific about your boundaries of what you DON'T write? thank you
I'll try to place down what I remember!
---
"Don't write" List:
1. Excessive or Gratuitous gore: I don’t write scenes with overly graphic descriptions of gore, torture, or extreme physical violence that doesn't serve for the lore, or are in there for no reason. I'm not good at it as neither I'm very interested in learning, it's not the type I'd write for fun. Any type will be placed in TWs regardless.
2. Minors in Romantic/Explicit Situations: I do not write detailed explicit scenes involving characters under the age of 18 as it's not a topic that comes up as relevant to any story of mine. It could be mentioned as a trauma at some point in a story, but won't gain a full scene. Will be placed in TWs.
3. Romanticizing Toxic Traits: While some darker traits may appear in my characters, I avoid romanticizing harmful or dangerous behaviors as something to emulate or admire. The victims I write will either remain oblivious to the toxicity or be heavily against it. If in any moment a character shows enjoyment of some kind, it will be result of not being in a good place psychologically and will be addressed either in notes, lore, or TWs.
4. Unhealthy Dynamics Without Consequences: I don’t write long stories regarding toxic relationships without consequences to the characters in some kind, any problematic behavior is addressed or acknowledged as harmful either in the story itself or TWs.
5. Graphic animal Harm or Abuse: Full scenes involving harm or cruelty toward animals are off-limits and not relevant in my stories, if it comes up as a plot point of some kind it will only be a mention, and will appear in TWs.
6. Mental Health Stereotypes: I avoid inaccurate portrayals of mental health issues for the sale of plot, and try to educate myself on said subjects as much as I can prior to writing (if you happen to notice some issue make sure to let me know in any way!).
7. Glamorization of Stalking, Obsession, toxicity and Non-con: Although yandere/dark elements will explore said themes, I don’t glorify these as positive traits and heavily hate them in real life. Therapy is heavily encouraged in said cases. My art is merely creative liberty.
8. Eating Disorders or Body Shaming: I heavily avoid detailed depictions of eating disorders or scenes that encourage body shaming of any kind, it's not something that contributes in my stories and will appear in TWs if mentioned in a scene.
9. Substance Abuse as Romantic: I do not write substance abuse as something "cool" or romanticized; it is shown with realistic consequences if it is even mentioned, as I don't see it as something that would contribute to my stories currently. Still, if it happens, it'll be addressed in TWs.
10. Happy Endings for Abusive Characters: As I previously mentioned, I avoid rewarding abusive characters with a “happily ever after” unless they’ve earned it through character growth and redemption, it simply does not make sense otherwise.
11. Extreme Power Imbalances as normal: I don’t write romantic relationships that exploit large power imbalances without addressing the toxicity of said situations.
12. Glorifying Self-Destructive Love: I avoid making it seem like self-destructive behavior is something real people should aspire to in love, and will be stated in TWs as unnatural.
13. Cruelty Towards Vulnerable Characters: I avoid prolonged scenes where vulnerable characters are subjected to extreme cruelty, especially without justice or resolution, it's not a topic that comes up as relevant in my stories.
14. Traumatic Backstory as a justification: I avoid revealing traumatic backstories to justify characters toxicity, only to explain the depth and reason for their tendencies.
15. About Kinks and Fetishes (or anything regarding smut): I cannot whip out a list of all things here which I do or do not write for. But I do not kinkshame, and do, in fact, want to practice smut. Therefore feel free to ask for what you'd mentalize as kinks that involve dark romance in any way, I don't mind writing, and if for some reason I don't feel educated enough to give a good experience on a specific kink, I will address the request in private.
this is kind of a ramble on natsuki's character and our relationship i'm gonna put it under the cut 👉👈
please keep in mind this is my version of natsuki, every fan has their own perception but this is MY natsuki!! my words here don't fully capture what i think of his character either 😭
i do tend to think about how natsuki is portrayed like for example his public appearances, how he hangs out with starish/qn/heavens and how he acts towards haruka(mc), which gives us all kinds of ways to view him
while he is happy and often silly (often protrayed in the anime + vn) but he speaks in such a way that feels very gentle, words chosen with care, very dreamy, but very committed and passionate. he speaks with such intelligence and care, that i really don't like when people portray him as an idiot, easy to upset, completely innocent or very childlike. the point of natsuki's relationship with satsuki is to prove that he isn't weak, like that same little kid all those years ago, he still has that silly part of him but he can take care and protect himself now.
which makes me often think how our relationship would be, these art pieces of us really only show the happy moments we have together and while i won't say we dont have "bad" moments, i like to think about how realistic our relationship would be
if i were to think about the potential arguments we would have, lord knows i give him the silent treatment often, while i love physical affection and touch he can be excessively clingy that i can become overstimulated, while hes very determined to try and fix the issue- he realizes he needs to back off which is difficult for him to do since he hates being alone
at the start of our relationship; at first he tries to push through but paired with his loneliness and depression, the rejection i imagine would make him head into his own in a spiral in turn causing satsuki to front and it's a bit difficult to handle. you have two people unable to or mostly unable to communicate without getting into an actual argument, it takes a lot before satsuki gives in and eventually natsuki is front again. he doesn't remember the arguments but sees just how exasperated i am, we finally reconcile but it's difficult to understand and deal with
currently when we do have arguments, i still kinda give the silent treatment but i make attempts to communicate even if i fumble my words, and while he no longer has satsuki to rely on- i think he has a better understanding of my wants and needs now
satsuki was natsuki's protector, he never came out just bc natsuki's glasses came off- but because natsuki felt he was in danger or scared, (I GO CRAZY THINKING ABOUT THE ROOFTOP FIREWORKS SCENE) so of course he'd side with him no matter what, but after getting to know one and seeing that my feelings are true to natsuki, he knows that natsuki finally has someone that loves him for him. he took the time to learn my intentions which allowed for natsuki to as well
natsuki grew to learn and know of satsuki, despite satsuki never realizing it, and once they came together lets just say natsuki grew a more flirtatious, and dominate side hehe
natsuki has always been mature without satsuki, its present when talking with ren and camus, and especially in interviews, while hes more silly with starish (especially ai and syo), he is still full front about his desires and means them
just imagining him cooking us breakfast in the morning, putting together tea and remembering exactly how i like it, going out to a cafe having lunch together always willing to open the door for me and pull my chair, watching him cook dinner and having a sip of wine
just imagining him going out shopping with me and seeing the cutest pair of plushies and taking two, telling me they're a pair and meant to be together like us, seeing a silly matching couple outfit and asking if we could please do that next time
imagining natsuki trying to come up with a new recipe for a celebration between us and taking care on remembering what i cant handle, going out star gazing and telling me the most beautiful poetry right on the spot
imagining natsuki wanting to take the bigger leaps but respecting the fact that i want to take things slow
anytime he ever does something out of line, he knows im okay with it and even find it silly, it goes the same for him, he's not weak anymore, he can handle my teasing and playful nature, he can handle rejection when he couldnt before, we both respect each other and know each other's wants and needs, its part of our relationship and i know it makes him stronger for it
BTTF Year-End Tag Game!
AAA THANK YOU @cheriboms AND @bttf-dork FOR TAGGING ME!!
This year:
How many times would you guess you watched the first back to the future movie?
Too many times to count...
Did you get any sweet bttf merch? If so, what!
Yes! BTTF Playmobil advent calendar and an off-brand Funko pop Doc!
How many cans of Pepsi Free did you chug this year?
Pepsi free? None. Normal Pepsi on the other hand.... Over 50 cans for sure.
What was a favorite bttf fanfic you read this year?
There were so many good ones, but if I had to choose... I choose 3!
Oh, How the World has Changed by @itsthemorph I just love the idea of Clara in 1985, even if it's only one chapter, I am sure the other parts will be great :)
June of Doom: let the Suffering Begin by @unknooooow. Now these ones are dark. They have become my Roman Empire, so I think about it once every few days. But again, I love angst, especially realistic. :)
Double Visions by @daryfromthefuture. While there were many good ones this one stuck out due to it having the talk of Citizen Brown (the not-so-silly doc). And it's also very touching and captures the friendship spirit greatly!
A favorite bttf fanart you saw this year? (please give us a link, not a screencap/repost!)
AGAIN MANY GOOD ONES.
this one by @future-boi LITTLE MARTY LITTLE MARTY
this one by @maxintime Cause Browns my beloved <3
this one by @bttf-dork (do u have any idea how long it took for me to find it, I thought I imagined it) THE COLORS, THE SHAPES AAA.
This one by @cheriboms The silly, the goofy, the little Baby Emmett (I WILL EAT THE FANART)
Did you create any bttf fanart or fanfic? If you did, what one(s) are you proudest of?
My time to shine :) /j
I am especially proud of June of Doom chapter 11 (Better known as Doc Has a Stroke literally). It took me two months to write, and it is still the longest one chapter I ever wrote (3k words). Also! I am afraid of hospitals and blood, so I have no idea how I wrote it. Also believe it or not, it was inspired by the animated series...
One more writing project I am proud of is Alteration. It is not because of how much I wrote, but how much I am still planning, and how many Ideas I have for it. I have every single detail planned :)
With art it's a bit more tricky. Since I am not THAT proud of any of them, but BTTF 2 end scene redraw is still one of my favs :)
How many times were you late for school this year?
At least three times, due to reasons outside of my control. But I hate being late.
Did you watch any other movies/tv shows with BTTF actors in them?
My Favourite Martian (1999) Where Lloyd plays an Alien. I watched it because of my silly alien doc au. And I had an amazing angst idea out of it (I wrote it for June of Doom)
That is about it...
Was there a memorable moment you heard a Huey Lewis song this year?
In the car. My parents are tired of me ranting about BTTF so Imagine me (not a singer) scream-singing Back In Time. :DDD
How many times did you fall down this year?
Honestly, either I didn't. Or I did too many times to count. Cause I don't remember
Did you get to see BTTF: The Musical? What was your experience like!
No...
How many times did your mom retell the story of how she and your father met?
Not many, maybe once.
If you could describe your year in a BTTF quote, which one would it be?
This one is the toughest.
It will either be "I repeat, Verne, this is a fool's errand." "Does that mean you're coming?" I always tagged along when I knew my friend was making a dumb decision.
Or “Why do we have to cut these things so damn close?”
⚡️LIGHTNING ROUND⚡️ Did you get to: go on any trains, skate on a skateboard, ride a horse, drive a Delorean, run in the rain, go to a dance, hang up a clock, play the guitar, pull an all-nighter, read science fiction, or drive thru Burger King this year?
To the dance, I even went as Marty McFly. (Even if it was 80' themed I did not win, they did not get the joke :(
Your future is whatever you make it! So what are you going to make of this coming year?
More art. Even more angsty fanfiction :)
I am tagging @unknooooow and I believe everyone else has been tagged. Maybe @jayisnotdrawing @bri-to-the-future @brinkle-brackle and @bentothefuturee @pine-killer55
Payments are made via PayPal invoices, so I'll need your PayPal email.
All prices are USD.
My wait list is just a rough estimation. The time I take on each work varies and sometimes there are cancellations, as well as other external factors, so even though I'm mostly on time, the possibility I will be a bit late or a bit earlier than expected exists.
IMPORTANT: If you change your url after getting a spot on my wait list please remember to give me a heads up so that later I can still find you!!
It's alright if you need to reschedule your comm for another time, or even just cancel it, just let me know. No cancellations once I have started working though, and no refunds.
I start working after receiving half the payment upfront.
References are appreciated but not required, and well detailed descriptions work just fine, but please try to have all information necessary for the commission ready. I reserve the right to refuse a commission.
I reserve the right to post my artwork and use it on my portfolio, but I'll keep a commission private if so requested.
The commissions are for personal use only.
Will Do
OCs, fanart, ship art;
Suggestive themes, NSFW, and even fetish art (with only a few exceptions I highly doubt I will encounter here, but who knows);
Gore and body horror;
Animals, humanoids and furries.
In doubt just ask, I'll give almost anything a confident try.
Won't Do
Mecha;
Hateful imagery;
Create new designs (characters, clothes, etc.);
And I will no longer be accepting irl face claims/painting real people on painting style commissions (this doesn't apply to realistic looking video-game characters).
The styles:
Sketch- just the early stage of the drawing, rough forms and somewhat messy lines. May include 1 rough color for emphasis;
Lineart- clean lineart with the brush of your choice (I have 3);
Flat colors- includes lineart and simple coloring, no shadows/source of light;
Shaded- includes lineart, more detailed coloring compared to flat colors, simple lighting/one source of light;
Painting- either pieces with no lineart (regardless of type of lighting), or those which have lineart + complex lighting/two or more sources of light.
