Sometimes I'll stumble across some thread of queer discourse on here and just wish I lived in the world it described.

IFYLITA ep 9 thoughts
The thing that really stood out to me was the solidarity between Fongkaew and Ueang Pheung. The first few episodes pitted them against each other, these women have caused pain to one another but it is made clear to each other and the audience that it was never their fault. They are women living in a world where they are constantly oppressed. They cannot be on different sides. I love Fongkaew's tremendous development and the grace with which she's navigating everything. Ueang Pheung I think is a lot more emotional and shows her displeasure, while Fongkaew cannot afford to do that.
I loved that Maey got rescued by Fongkaew and Ming, and that Ming holds no ill-will towards Ming because she doesn't like him romantically. Love isn't just romance and I'm sure they will be good friends. Maey was so heartbreaking but I sighed from relief seeing her free.
The Maey rescue operation start to finish was about how the oppressed are coming together to help one another and face the true enemy here; the patriarchal values as represented by Robert.
It was amazing to see all of them working together and getting along! In my head, Fongkaew, Ueang Pheung, Maey and Ming are all one big group and I hope they fight and triumph in whatever way they can. Every moment in the past episodes spent highlighting the class struggle, misogyny, homophobia- it all culminates into these people finding solidarity.
On that note, suppression under those values has not always brought community. Yai's mom had very little screen time but my god, did she nail her scene during the measurements. You could TELL she does not want this for Yai and that she hadn't even wanted the marriage for Ueang Pheung. You can see the pain in letting her two children down this bad, forcing them into misery. But she can't do anything! She can only watch as the man in their life decides everything for them.
Yai and Jom this episode broke my heart. The scene before the engagement where Jom tells Yai to let go of him nearly had me in tears. Both the actors did a wonderful job of portraying the sadness.
Yai talking back against his father and declaring that he loves Jom, that he wants to make his own choices and being angry was so good. It was cathartic, it was reflective. It made me angry on his behalf it was such a good scene and I'm glad Yai talked back. Which makes the end of the episode even more miserable because he protested so much but it takes a lot of courage to break free. More than is possible at times.
Jom weeping into Prik's shoulder, losing his love once again to heteronormativity, being kept a secret once more, was heart wrenching. He trusted his heart again to Yai and Yai broke his trust, hurting him exactly where it is fatal. Hearing the way he spoke and asked what wrong he did, what he did to deserve this really hit hard. It's how queer people are made to feel. No matter what we do, a lot of the times our love and identity is shunned. We are demonized, told we are fundamentally wrong. It is terrible to see Jom, who seemed so confident in himself and his love in EP1, a man of the 21st century who is supposed to be more secure in himself ask that question.
What is wrong with me?
It's not even because it's the 1920s because I suspect Jom's had this insecurity since Ohm cheated on him. He's only saying it out loud now. The story is showing the progress, but it's also showing that we still need to undo a lot of things fundamentally.
So watching Jom apparently accompanied by NUEY, bringing their "secret life" right into the open in sunlight, making the family see exactly what they are and being proud and loud about it is going to be absolutely amazing next episode! I thought we'd never get to see Nuey again I'm glad they're back!!! It's especially impactful because we witnessed a ceremony and a dining table conversation that so forcefully insists on heteronormative bs.
Honestly? Watching the engagement scene was very difficult. That's not some fantasy distant thing for me. This shit still happens in a lot of countries. This is still the reality for many queer people and often time, it's reinforced with a lot more violence and cruelty.
Every IFYLITA episode is so filled with meaning. It's a given, the episodes are an hour long. But I feel like so much is done that the hour feels extremely well used.
This series tackles with systematic issues in a historical context with such....grace and care. I don't think I've ever seen a thai drama that's done stuff like this. With every episode, I love this show even more.

After watching First Kill, the dislike it is getting from critics is sounding more and more like nonsense or bigotry. I want to see the same critics review Romeo and Juliet. I want to read reviews from people who have studied and LIKE or at least see the skill in Shakespeare.
"the writing was bad"
no, actually it wasn't. This is one of the most well written and thought out adaptations of Romeo and Juliet I have seen or read to date. There are so many clever uses of literary devices and techniques. I'm struggling to find any significant plot holes.
Apollo and Elinor are foils. Calliope and Juliet balance one another while testing one another. The representations of motherhood and fatherhood are nuanced, compassionate, and compelling. All the characters in both main families have DEPTH along with their flaws. Every problem that seems to go away too easily is brought back in another similar form with vengeance and deep consequences. You don't need to have a degree in English literature to see these things.
Plus the acting is consistently impressive from both major families and even supporting characters.
"Cal was a bad actress / not really interested in Juliet"
This makes NO SENSE. it's probably based on a combination of anti-Blackness, misogyny, and/ or ignorance of queer culture- she did an amazing job. You cannot judge Cal based on the construct of white heteronormativity. Because of course she's not excelling at that; she doesn't need to. Plus, she's so complimentary to Juliet's character as opposites that also begin to grow into more than just the binaries of opposites.
Cal at the beginning is stoic, certain, and detached (which is explained so well through her backstory) and ends crying, uncertain, and painfully present.
Juliet at the beginning is anxious, uncertain, and constantly in her emotions (which is explained well through her relationship with her dad) and ends in strong silence, certainty (in regards to Elinor), and is determined to live her life for herself. (Yes she ends the show crying but that's because of a mistake/accident. That doesn't mean she didn't grow).
I'm guessing at least some of these critics never looked beyond Romeo and Juliet as more than "two stupid teenagers who got people killed over their stupid love that wasn't even love." To say nothing about
the depth and how the play exposes the problems imposed by stupid arbitrary binaries of good and evil;
to show an exaggerated and yet real feeling of what one's first love feels like; to show the beauty and callousness of Betrayal;
the painful and yet poignant individualism, stupidity,and self importance of youth;
the different depths of violence and hate intertwined with the concept of unshakable fate that forces two supposed opposites to love one another and drag their families out of their strict binaries of good and evil in the process.
The emotional roller coaster of love and sweetness; violence, hatred, and fear.
And all of this cuts deeper with explicitly queer characters and the rawness many queer people know of rejection and alienation.
"it's got too many tropes that have been done already"
So is Shakespeare. Tropes are in basically everything. And yet this isn't even an enemies to lovers story, it's been tilted so that connection is immediate (which is Shakespearean and incredibly realistic for lesbians). I'm actually impressed at how often the tropes are subverted.
Is it perfect? Of course not. The CGI is low budget. The choices for camera angles seem random at times. Yet, It adds to a campy atmosphere. And that campiness is arguably very Shakespearean. The opening illustrations are interesting but they don't actually shade in the faces of the Black characters, for instance. There are valid criticisms to be had, for example I've seen some Jewish people disliking her incorporation (perpetuating antisemitism) and other Jewish people saying it's irrelevant or liking it as a continuation of feminist readings of Lilith (as vampires are not meant to been seen as evil in the show).
But the idea that someone would say Buffy is more well WRITTEN than this?! Blatant bigotry. Perhaps blatant hatred of two teenage girls being the main focus of the story instead of through a tiresome white cis and heteronormative man's gaze. I like Buffy but none can pretend those characters were more fleshed out and complex than the characters in First Kill. Same with the plot and relationships. This stands out as one of the rare well written vampire stories. I understand this won't be something everyone likes, but that does not change the fact that it is incredible. And maybe that's easier for me to see because I didn't binge watch in a day. Thoughts that can spiral in your head after each episode; that's good writing.
If Shakespeare's bisexual ass can see this from the beyond, I know he is applauding. It was all the emotional roller coaster of a Shakespearean tragedy and it was done without stooping to the "bury your gays" trope.
I see so many people just calling this camp. I was expecting Once Upon a Time nonsense. Not depth, character development, creativity, and a masterful use of literary devices. Like it or not, Don't let people sell this show short.
#first kill#first kill is simultaneously well written and camp which is impressive as hell#first kill review#Shakespeare

Warning.
My age: 22 y.o.
Your age: no minors, only 18+.
I can (and will) write dark things, like yandere, stalking, violence, CNC, etc., because I'm interested in the motives and psychology of any sorts of violence, and by my writing I'm explaining it. Almost everything you read in my fics is described from the side of a mentally ill (psychopath) character and should be greeted with criticism. Please understand that this dynamic isn't normal in real life, and I write it because: 1) It's my page; 2) I like these genres and types of characters, such a way of art have the right to exist. It doesn't mean that I would like to repeat it outside my posts, and I don't urge you to repeat it, as well. It can be anything here, don't read me if you are uncomfortable.

🥀 this section can be updated 🥀
I write dark content mostly, and the biggest part of my fics is about any sorts of violence of a certain character over reader (it may be hidden or depicted graphically).
I like: drama (between character and reader or reader and society, etc.), mysticism (including all the forms of paranormal activities and devilry), dark, horror, body horror, ABO system, physical and psychological violence, sexual violence, surrealism, mental disorders, status difference, age difference (only with younger reader/older character), patriarchal and heteronormative relationships dynamic, misogyny, femdom, mommy kink.
I don't like it, but I can write it (no guarantees that the result will be good): fluff, healthy relationships (of any kind), rivals to lovers, enthusiastic consent, service top/power bottom, enemy mine, soulmates, domestic fics.
I won't write it: male reader (I'm not educated enough in it), scat, diaper fetish, genitals torture, character x character, heavy necrophilia (excluding zombies), cuckolding, manipulations with urethra, sugar mommy, zoophilia (excluding monsters), FWB, harem (reverse harem included).

detransitioning stories that don't need more publicity:
i detransitioned because my feelings were entirely due to internalized misogyny, and I believe that all trans people are just gnc people of their birth assigned gender who either suffer from internalized misogyny or are fetishizing women
i detransitioned because i was confused about my identity and I blame doctors / trans people
i detransitioned because transition isn't God's plan for anyone
detransitioning stories that need to be boosted:
i detransitioned because my identity changed, and i don't regret my transition.
i detransitioned because i was confused about my identity, and I regret transition, but i don't blame other people for my own choices, and I don't believe that my experience is representative of most people who transition. i believe that further restrictions on who is allowed to medically transition would do more harm than good.
i detransitioned for my safety, because I live in a place where it's not safe for me to transition socially or medically.
terfs prey on detransitioning people. detransitioning people are at great risk of getting sucked into terf echo chambers. we trans people need to support detransitioning people because they are not our enemies. the trauma of heteronormative gender roles can be difficult to tease apart from dysphoria, and we need to be sensitive to our fellow humans who just want to feel comfortable in their skin. we need to make it okay for people to change their identities, and try out identities to see if they work.
fearmongering directed at young trans people like "make sure you're REALLY trans before you [medically] transition, because if you're not it will give you dysphoria" introduces social pressure to prove to other trans people that you're really trans, which actually increases the likelihood that a person will transition and regret it. because you’re holding validation of their current identity hostage. if someone eventually detransitions, you shouldn't add to their trauma later by now giving them an inner "i told you so, you weren't really trans" voice.
