#like showing empathy for someone who will die is something every companion would do. but Donna made it her whole business to tell the doctor

Hundreds of people have said it before me, but it's really so powerful Donna's first WILLING adventure with the Doctor is an insanely emotionally moving one with a very deep message that arose from her compassion (The Fires Of Pompeii)
Even if you don't know Catherine Tate is known for her wit and comedy, Donna herself is introduced as a very comical character. Her theme is comical, her actions and sass is meant to be read as comical and both Runaway Bride and Partners In Crime have a totally different narrative structure because of it. Like, both episodes having a lot of humour based around an unexpected scenario forcing both to improvise in funny and chaotic DIY ways.
When you first watch these two episodes you have no reason to believe their run together is going to be anything else! So it was such a brilliant decision to have the episode right after she joins the Doctor be one in which SHE'S pushing a moral dilemma onto the Doctor. To be all fun and games until she learns people are going to die and the Doctor plans to do nothing about it. To then also KEEP on pushing the subject DESPITE the Doctor, this alien she at this point still knows very little about, speaking about the world and time with a sense of authority like there Truly Really is nothing they could do.
The fact that the character who's introduced to us as the comic relief IMMEDIATELY turns around and tells the Doctor he's guilty of the death of a teenager and everyone around him if he refuses to help at all... That's such a powerful move.
#like showing empathy for someone who will die is something every companion would do. but Donna made it her whole business to tell the doctor#he is WRONG and rubbing it in so heavily as to why standing by would make him guilty... that is something few dare to do#no one tells donna noble what she can and cant do and what is and isnt right. shell always be the judge of that#donna noble#the doctor#tenth doctor#10th doctor#doctor who#doctor who analysis#analysis#episode analysis#the fires of pompeii#runaway bride#partners in crime#talkies

Monsters and Accountability - IWTV S2's Adaptational Choices for Claudia and Madeline
…..Guess now’s a good a time as any to wade into the discourse regarding the changes made to Claudia and Madeline when adapting season two.
I read in a reddit board that IWTV is the "sympathy for the devil" show, and looking at how this season has characters grappling with their traumas and their ability to harm others, I'd say it's an accurate description.
Take this Collider interview with showrunner Rolin Jones and executive producer Mark Johnson:
"As we talked around the room, we didn’t think the character that we had written at that point would settle for a doll maker pretending she was her mom. [...] It’s so easy to turn [Claudia] into a saint and go, 'Oh, she never wanted to be a vampire.' But her being accountable for some of her behavior is really important for this. It’s essentially something for every one of the vampires this season."
I've noticed a split in fandom reaction to this choice in companion for Claudia. I get it. It's a very hard sell.
Despite the shocking change in backstory, Madeline is still portrayed with a surprising amount of empathy from the cast and crew. The show keeps Madeline's level of complicity vague. There is the impulse to conflate an affair with an occupying soldier ("horizontal collaboration") with active collaboration, such as intentionally turning people over to the French police or to the Gestapo for murder, imprisonment, or deportation to the camps.
Whether or not Madeline took part in the latter is not revealed this episode, but if we are to believe her recounting of events and the memory montage, her collaboration started and ended in the bedroom. (We’ll save the betrayal of others for someone else this episode…)
So why write Madeline this way?
Well….when has this show ever had heroes? Why would Claudia develop a relationship with someone accepted by the wider (human) community? Why would someone who resisted the German occupation and the Vichy regime agree to become a vampire that feeds on living humans?
As an audience who loves Claudia, we want someone good, moral, and kind for her. But why would a good, moral, and kind person want to be a vampire? How could a good person survive as a vampire and maintain their goodness, morality, and kindness? They can’t.
In this show, good people do not make good vampires.
So the writers have rewritten Madeline from a surrogate mother to a friend and potential lover. Claudia offers her an escape from a lifetime of shame. She has already been humiliated and shorn by an angry mob. Neighbors draw swastikas on her shop window (a reference to how Jewish shops were marked and vandalized by Nazis), as if she could forget her actions. She has no family to support her. Much like Louis being offered a way out of “this life of shame” in the pilot, only through vampirism can Madeline change her future.
She has had something of the womanly life Claudia wants for herself (independence, a consensual sexual experience) but also the isolation and self-preservation Claudia has known. Much like the shopkeeper across the street when Madeline is attacked during the episode, she herself stood and watched as her neighbors died during the war, seemingly as unmoved as Claudia was when she killed and drained the Romanian characters in episode one. They too had barely survived occupation, war, starvation, and political violence. Where was the compassion for them?
The greatest irony is that Claudia has spent so much of her extended life looking for a good vampire, when she and Louis are the closest she’ll ever get to knowing good vampires.
And they've killed thousands of people over the years.
As has been said by others, a vampire must inflict on others the same violence visited upon them in order to survive. Madeline and Claudia can't be precious, perfect, unproblematic lesbians. That's not what this story is. They still eat and murder people who do not want to die.
The circle will not be broken entirely.
Madeline’s plan to hunt as a vampire is to pick off those at the margins of society, people like the neighbor who starved to death or the one murdered by the Gestapo, people like her sister...and people like herself.
Even before she is bitten, Madeline is already aware she is a monster to history, but she is also a victim of monsters.
When the Théâtre des Vampires company attacks, they pull a sack over her head and drag her away with Louis and Claudia. Just like with the murder mansion in episode 2, their violent show of justice is (literally) performative. In parallel to Claudia's trial for breaking vampire law, Madeline will be put to trial in a court of public opinion.
But the vampires are more interested in Claudia than anyone else. It would hardly matter to the coven if Madeline were a resistance hero, a Holocaust survivor, or a collaborator. Her crime, to them, is merely her existence.
This episode may take place in 1949, but the echoes of WW2 continue to reverberate across the narrative. The next episode is going to be a heavy one.

You say Armand/Daniel weren't your first vc ship, which makes me wonder what *were* your first vc ships? Were you ride and die for Armand/Lestat from the start or did that come later?
I accidentally wrote a dissertation (but it is the holidays and I have time to kill).
The Vampire Armand was the first VC book I remember reading. I may have picked up IWTV when I was 10 or so but I didn't make it very far, because I was 10 and not that precocious so I couldn't really follow along yet. But I just had turned 12 when I read TVA, and at the time I didn't make the connection to IWTV—did not realize there was an entire TVC until I had already gotten pretty deep into the story.
My first VC ships were Armand/Marius and Armand/Lestat. It took a few more years to be able to fully appreciate Devil's Minion and the absolute psychosexual hold it would have on me. I think I was about 16-17 when it... hit.
With Armand/Marius, the savior and student/teacher tropes really appealed to me as a kid who didn't actually comprehend much of those particular dynamics, and I was simply devastated by the way they were torn apart in Venice. As I got older and understood more, I did grow out of loving Marius and that ship altogether unless it's in fic, although I do think I'm able to empathize with him more and see him as a complete character now. I don't have to like someone in real life to feel empathy for them, and that translates over into fictional stuff for me personally. Everyone's different and honestly I don't overthink it lol.
Since I was introduced to Armand via his own book, I got to meet Lestat, Marius, and the rest of the cast through his eyes. I also have a rather peculiar habit (at least people tell me it's peculiar) of spoiling myself for everything I consume. I'll read the wiki pages of every movie and tv show before I watch them; I'll skip to the end of every book before I read the beginning so I'll know who's left standing. I don't like surprises!
Technically, this is where I met Armand and Lestat:
It was Lestat, and he was tattered and dusty as he had been on the chapel floor. No thoughts emanated from his mind as far as I could figure, and his eyes looked vague and full of exhausting wonder. He stood before us, merely staring, and then as I rose to my feet, scrambled in fact, to embrace him; he came near to me, and whispered in my ear.
His voice was faltering and weak from lack of use, and he spoke very softly, his breath just touching my flesh.
"Sybelle," he said.
"Yes, Lestat, what is it, what about her, tell me," I said. I held his hands as firmly and lovingly as I could.
"Sybelle," he said again. "Do you think she would play the Sonata for me if you asked her? The Appassionato?"
I drew back and looked into his vague drifting blue eyes.
"Oh, yes," I said, near breathless with excitement, with overflowing feeling. "Lestat, I'm sure she would. Sybelle!"
Obviously, this Lestat guy is a big deal to Armand. Then when I went back and read the book properly (binged that baby in a day, took psychic damage that's still painfully evident today), I thought it was so interesting that Lestat really isn't featured in TVA that much and yet Armand doesn't talk about anyone the way he does Lestat. I was enchanted.
TVL was next on my list because I am a chaos gremlin with no respect for chronological order. Maybe this is why in my head I always think of TVL and TVA as companion novels? But I also see them as being the most similar in tone and style than any other two books in TVC. And once again, baby me was riveted by the L/A dynamic. 'Confusion and desire'! A 'monstrous intimacy'! The way Lestat describes Armand as one would a living angel, with all the horror, apprehension, allure, and worshipfulness that would entail.
Just as Armand doesn't speak on anyone the way he does Lestat, the same is true with Lestat when it comes to Armand. There's something so unique to their relationship and how they see each other that's not replicated with anyone else. I was hooked for life. 😔
And like I said, Devil's Minion came later to rearrange my brain chemistry one more time! I definitely go through phases with which ship I'm feeling the most but tbh I could talk about either of them all day long if given the opportunity (proof is in the archive, RIP). 🖤
But yes, I was an L/A girlie from day one, and I'm sure that's at least in part due to the way I started with TVA and TVL. I just love them so much, okay??? It's excellent writing and I think whether Anne meant to or not, she wrote them to complement each other perfectly and I'm gonna die emotional about it 🤧
#tl;dr: armand/marius and armand/lestat were baby's first ships#hekate lore time#i feel like i've answered this before but not in as much detail and i feel like rambling today i apologize#you ask and hekate answers#vc#armand

Gale: Manipulation, Lies, and Trust
Disclaimer Game Version: All these analyses were written up to the game version v4.1.104.3536 (Early access). As long as new content is added, and as long as I have free time for that, I will try to keep updating this information. Written in June 2021.
Additional disclaimers about meta-knowledge and interpretations in this (post) while disclaimers about Context in this (one).
Before anything I strongly suggest reading this post about "Context, persuasion, and manipulation" to understand in a simplified way the meaning of the words we use, so despite not being related to bg3, it's related to communication and social issues. Since fandom loves to misuse them, I think it requires a proper explanation so we all know in which frame we are analysing these scenes.
Due to the fact that this post ended up turning into a much longer one than I wanted to, I split it into four posts, each of them showing how many sides Gale has in those scenes, how much his actions are "manipulative", how many details related to lore he shares, and possible interpretations of his behaviour, since it's rather easy to lose his scenes because they have the lowest priority. In this post I will only make a summary and a compilation of the broad details explained in those posts, so pick what you want to read since all these posts may have overlap of information and repetitive concepts (they were written to be self-contained as much as possible).
'Stew'Scene
"Loss Scene"
"Party Scene" (with Revelation scene)
"Extra Scenes": Death Protocol and Comments on Dreams
I'm analysing these scenes in detail because I noticed that many players incorrectly paraphrase Gale's words, putting in his mouth words he never said, so for the sake of transparency, I transcribed many fragments of his dialogues, making these posts more lengthy than they should be.
The stew scene
The details are shown in the post of the "'Stew'Scene". In this scene, Gale shares a friendly introduction with the stew and with a list of good deeds done by Tav. This shows that he has begun to trust Tav so he can talk about this issue earlier than he wanted to (he will wait much longer in the neutral version). As a gesture of honesty, Gale sets an explicit boundary by telling Tav to refrain their curiosity and do not ask about the 'why' of the issue he is about to talk about (under no circumstance he is forcing Tav to agree with the delivery of artefacts before telling them 'what' he needs). He acknowledges that it may be unfair not to give the whole context, but he still can't speak in detail about this very personal issue. As an interesting detail, his trust in Tav at this moment of the conversation is so honest that he has not shielded his mind, so Tav can intrude with the tadpole without Gale knowing it—if Tav succeeds— . If Gale doesn't trust Tav even successful intrusions of the tadpole can be perceived by Gale's trained and cautious mind. For more detail read the post of "The Tadpole".
I personally interpret the stew scene as one of those moments in which one is developing a friendship with a stranger, and at some point, someone has to trust first. It's a rare occasion in which the act of trust is shared in equal measure by both members in a new relationship. Usually, one of them offers a bigger portion of trust, testing the other, seeing if it was not misplaced or if it will be honoured later. It's a normal asymmetry, and in this case, Gale is only explicitly asking for that asymmetry in his favour.
Considering how Gale opens up later, Tav passed the test in his eyes. Helping him during his direst moment and accepting that temporal trust asymmetry made Tav “earn the respect of years” despite being a stranger he met a couple of days or weeks ago. But Gale will not be blind to that gesture. He will progressively honour that trust in the Weave, the Loss, and the Revelation scenes. And by the end of EA, if it is not bugged as usual, Gale's approval status can change to “best friend” (an information given as meta-knowledge, therefore very unlikely to be "a trap set by Gale". For more details read the post about "meta-knowledge").
It's pretty common for manipulative characters (whose trait of manipulation belongs to their personality, not characters who may have circumstantial manipulative actions) to expose their pain too soon with strangers as a tool to force empathy on the listener and "catch" them. Gale does exactly the opposite: he won't open up until having a solid ground where to place his trust. Nobody wants to share their pain in unsafe places, after all.
Helping him with artefacts is deeply appreciated by him and a great boost of his approval for obvious reasons: people tend to place their trust on persons who helped them in their most desperate situations or in their survival. It has to do with the unique connection that often happens between survivors of extreme situations (war-like) who helped each other in surviving. The shared link is deep. One could expect this link to be built with any of Tav's companions since the Tadpole experience is traumatising and extreme. I think this has higher chances of happening with neutral and good aligned companions, since evil ones may have little scruples to not honour the trust received.
Gale could have avoided Tav's questions and mistrust for this secrecy by just lying. However, Gale opts for an explicit enunciation of his limits and boundaries. And Tav is completely free to agree or not since Gale won't abandon the party if not. We know that, in that case, he will try to find another solution that he may find in Raphael's deal. Some players consider this situation of mutual agreement in the terms and conditions that the conversation will happen as a coercive one. What I see is diplomacy and negotiation rather than manipulation.
Gale's need for secrecy is related to two factors:
Survival: He needs to be sure that Tav won't kill him out of fear (which we saw during the scene with Nettie; it's a common procedure in Faerûn: exterminate what's dangerous). Gale's case is even worse because killing him will only activate the devastation he is desperate to avoid: Gale wants to survive but also wants to avoid the massacre that the “orb” can cause.
Personal reasons: Which is the main reason at this point: Gale is unable to speak about the "why" of this condition because it's originated in Mystra's abandonment and the horror of the “orb”: such traumatising experience that turns the Tadpole experience into an inconvenience (this is why his attitude with the tadpole is more relaxed too, he has already passed through a much worse, terrifying situation).
The Loss scene reinforces this concept when we see Gale—usually so verbose and impossible to shut up— can't speak or find the words to say what he lost and why. And only by the end of the scene, if Tav insisted with many checks, he managed to say something. It's worth noting that these checks tend to be strangely low for a character who is struggling with a personal secret. This is usually understood in DM-code as Gale wanting to share this info (setting a lower DC than the average). Gale is not finding the way to do it, and a Tav gently pushing him will do the trick.
It is for this reason I personally think that Gale's secretive attitude is more like a series of obvious clues he purposely leaves in his conversations for Tav to draw their own conclusions before he could finally open up. If all Gale's scenes are triggered (which at this moment is very hard to do with his priority being always the lowest) and Tav pushes him to speak more than he is willing to, the player obtains a decent amount of information to conclude that Mystra and Gale had a deeper relationship, and that the “orb” is something dangerous not only for Gale. To be honest, the death protocol is a gigantic red flag pointing out that Gale's primary condition is not to be taken lightly and “many innocents” can die because of it.
With a neutral or lower approval, Gale will not ask Tav to trust in him. He doesn't trust Tav either, and there is no promise to speak and disclose his condition later. Gale clearly is more mindful and caring with a medium or higher approval Tav who he is starting to see as a good companion/friend, while with a neutral or lower approval Tav he cares little about keeping the contact beyond what diplomacy demands.
It's not by chance that this Stew scene is meant to happen before the Weave scene. From a narrative, contextual point of view, the trust that Tav gave Gale during the Stew scene is afterwards paid with the Weave and the Loss scene. Let's remember that Gale would only ask for that trust if Tav is of medium or higher approval, so the Weave scene comes naturally (when not bugged). The neutral and low approval Tav is never asked for that trust and therefore the Weave scene never happens (if their approval keeps going down). In fact, Gale can leave permanently without any chance of convincing him to stay if he reaches very low approval. What I mean is that, from a narrative point of view, the Weave and the Loss scenes are Gale's way to return that trust that Tav gave him first during the stew scene and the first artefact consumption.
The Weave was not a premeditated scene. It happened by surprise, triggered by Gale's deep loneliness: Tav startled him when he was longing for Mystra while seeing her image in his incantation. He shares in that moment how important and vital magic is in his life, and only then, the previous actions done by Tav encourage him to share this experience. It's important to highlight that this is too personal for Gale, too important, and a bit painful too, since we know later (second dream) that every time he connects with the Weave, he meets with Mystra's disappointment: "What magic I can still weave is met only with undercurrents of disappointing silence."
After a moment of rambling, Gale invites Tav to share this experience. Here is where all the branches about explicitly displaying Tav's romantic interests can be developed; a neutral option for a friendship path, or very aggressive and violent reactions can be picked as well. More details about this scene can be read in the post of "Gale Hypotheses- Part 2", section: "Proposition to Cheat". And again, for a char so guarded of his own privacy and personal issues, sharing the Weave can be clearly seen as the repayment of the trust that Gale received from Tav during the stew scene.
The Loss scene
The Loss is a scene that starts with a mystery about Gale's incapacity to cast a spell. He keeps pushing Tav away, claiming that night to be of personal regrets. Tav knows already that something is dangerous in Gale's consumption of artefacts that can cause a catastrophe, so in this scene some links can be made between the two conditions.
If Tav gently pushes Gale to speak, we will notice that most DCs are rather low, meaning that Gale is not putting a strong resistance for the pushing: a friendly Tav pushing him can be interpreted as Gale wanting extra help to open up and speak (in the end he approves the caring despite his reserved persona). Gale gives many hints in this scene that suggest he was a Chosen of Mystra. The most relevant one is the Silver Fire reference. For more details about the Chosen's powers read the post about "Mystra and her Chosen ones".
We also see a reinforcement of Gale's pattern behaviour: He prefers to speak in this poetic way when he has to talk about painful topics (we see it after killing the druids that triggers “the barren oak” scene or during the goblin party scene). Talking in third person puts distance, but also the embellishment of his narration makes it easier for him to speak, after all he is a poet/storyteller as well.
What's clear is that the verbose companion, who always has a lot to talk about, is basically speechless in this scene, stuck in his "loss" (literally, metaphorically, and psychologically speaking). Part of this behaviour can be understood a bit more in the post about "Gale Hypotheses- Part 1", section: "Grooming". Besides being a private person, Gale also has a perspective that talking about things that can't be changed is useless. He is so stuck in the loss, that talking about it means nothing to him, "the outcome" is always the same.
After pushing Gale to share his burden, the presence of Mystra in Gale's life is undeniable for Tav. Gale sounds like a strong devotee that somehow lost Mystra. We know in this short description that he “did something” to impress his Goddess and earn her favour back, and in doing it, he failed, invoking death upon him. If Tav is sharp enough, knowing that Gale's consumption of artefacts is related to a “catastrophe” and a certain death of himself... maybe they can start connecting some dots and suspect that Gale's primary condition may be related to the loss of Mystra. My point is, even Tav has been informed quite a lot about Gale's “truth”. As we can see, the “Revelation” scene should not be such a shocking “revelation” as it was written, but more a “detailed description” of the situation.
The context seems clear so far: Gale knows he hides the details of his condition (which are not so hidden anymore), and knows that it's information that can cause a second abandonment (whether as a friend or a lover). Gale is at this point in his life very tired and lonely of struggling with the “orb” inside him too. He could use some emotional support, and this is why I believe he has less tough DCs that one should expect from a character who is actively holding information he doesn't want to share. We need to remember that Gale lives in a permanent anxiety mind-state, too focused on Artefacts and the disaster he can cause, increased with the dreadful, hungry feelings that the “orb” inspires with each passing day. He is getting fond of Tav at this point, and their abandonment would mean too much, even though he knows that he may deserve it.
We know that Mystra abandoned him, but did not ban him from using the Weave. I personally speculate that maybe Gale's point of view of the situation of the “orb” and the following abandonment of Mystra is partial: Mystra may have abandoned him not on purpose but as a consequence of having that Weave-sucking power in his chest. As it was explained in the post of "Mystra and her Chosen ones", Chosen ones have a deeper connection with her, and they are able to use raw magic in the form of Silver Fire. This means that Chosen are part of Mystra herself (in Dead Masks, it's stated that Mystra leaves a bit of her own divinity in each of her Chosen), so Chosen ones are also part of the Weave, always connected to Mystra who is the Weave. If the “orb” inside Gale consumes Weave, and we all know that Weave IS Mystra, it's not too far to conclude that Mystra may have abandoned him as a safety measure since, if Gale remained as Chosen, his contact with her would be deeper and would expose her to the “orb”, destroying her eventually. But this, again, it's a mere personal speculation.
The party scene
Gale has finally reached a degree of trust in Tav that gives him enough courage to finally speak about the details of the "orb" (and I emphasise details because in broad aspects, he already shared what's most important: the “orb” in his chest is a dangerous thing. If Tav assisted in his death protocol, this is undeniable by now, unless Tav did not pushed him and respected his privacy).
If he is romanced, he promises much more: confessions in the art of conversation, pleasures in the art of the body, and, hopefully, acceptance. For Gale, acceptance is a big deal: I personally believe he shows a fair level of naivety on this matter. It seems (especially later, with his arguments in the morning) he thought he needed this level of intimacy to reach acceptance first (a process that this book guarantees to happen), so he could speak openly. He wants to have this night before any confession because he wants to acquire acceptance which, in his mind, would prevent the abandonment he viscerally fears.
Gale is so eager to spend the night with Tav first and confess later that the only way of not doing it is not romancing him at all or telling him that Tav is not in the mood. It's not clear in EA if this ends the romance; I think it doesn't since the disapproval is not big (there is no change in the approval status).
Gale wants to be with Tav intimately so badly that he doesn't mind Tav having casual sex with other companions first as long as the "commitment" part would be established with him. This is reinforced by the fact that, if Tav never shared the Weave with Gale, there is no way to sleep with him: Gale is not a character for one-stand nights. He craves for deep connection, for commitment, in whatever fashion he can get it. Mystra taught him not to ask about exclusivity after all, and because of the ephemeral nature of his relationship with her, he craves for something meaningful and more committed.
Mystra was his first love. After her abandonment, he made the mistake of the “orb” that dragged all his energy into studying Netherese magic and possible solutions. I consider it fair to think that maybe Gale never had a relationship beyond the Goddess, and all what he learnt about romantic relationships was through books like the one he mentions or, as a poet, through novels or romantic poetry. He must have an idealisation of love (also proper of a poet) that made him believe that through sex “intimacy” there is a guarantee of acceptance.
His pattern, in my opinion, says that he tends to make mistakes in his emotional state, which is mostly triggered by the “orb” and the potential of “abandonment”. Not so much with Mystra herself. He seems to be nostalgic, but more aware of what loving a God causes (his regret is explicit during the conversation about Karsus). He seems to be quite done with "her romantic love", but that doesn't mean he doesn't want to be forgiven nor he doesn't love her as the essence of Magic itself. More details in the post of "Mystra and her Chosen ones".
Some players see the “Revelation” scene as manipulative. Although that's personal interpretation, if we analyse the kind of information withheld by Gale we found little new: the dangerous nature of the “orb” had been indirectly disclosed in all the previous scenes. Tav being surprised about the “orb” seems strange. And Gale sleeping with Mystra has little relevance: in a game for adults, why are past partners such a big deal? The scene is so confusingly written to make it sound as if Gale is still in love with Mystra, but previous scenes showed he has been working on getting over it. Despite loving Mystra as the embodiment of Magic herself, Gale showed to be very aware that all that love belonged to the past (second dream), to a younger self, and even though he is not certain if he loves her still, he is clear that nothing good comes from relationships between mortals and gods (comments on Karsus). He is very explicit about desiring her forgiveness (second dream). So, there is little withholding information at this point for a Tav who pushed him to speak. Now, Gale's attitude certainly has been tactless. Not the best decision to disclose a past lover with such a degree of fascination just after sharing a night with Tav. But it's understandable since in order to “disclose” the “orb”, Gale needed to provide the context of his young love for the Goddess.
The whole scene of the Revelation seems very, very unpolished, mixing tones and confusing information that was given before and presenting it as if it were a revelation when it's not the case. It jumps from one drama concept to another, and never sticks to one, and Tav's options tend to be extreme: or the player calls this disclosure a “great betrayal”, or makes it seem as if nothing has happened, giving little options of what Tav already knows, or if they want to show a moderate annoyance since most of the information has been disclosed already, but still Gale's timing is annoying. Part of this can also be written on purpose to show what a disaster Gale is when it comes to the potential of “another abandonment” in his life. Hard to tell in EA.
Tav's romantic options react as if Gale confessed to have cheated on them, while what he explains has a different degree of conflict: he confesses he is not sure he still loves Mystra, but his lines in previous scenes show he wants to get over it, without losing his magic/relationship with Mystra, because magic is too important in Gale's life. At times, Tav's options are meant for them to react with jealousy, other times as if this were a big betrayal, or as if Gale's romantic past should have been disclosed before the night, and in the last part of the scene, Larian remembered that the “orb” could be considered a conflict too, so Tav has some occasional options to react to the “orb” as if it were a big revelation (when it's not, because we had 3 scenes, four if we include the death protocol, stating its dangerous nature). So, I personally understand why every person has a completely radical interpretation of the situation: it has been written in a rush, and I see it as very inconsistent in tone and context. This all makes sense when one remembers Kevin VanOrd stream where he explained that Gale was meant to be in the second wave of companions, and not in EA. Gale's writing was rushed and it shows in the last of his scenes and his meeting scene.
Some people may argue that talking about a previous lover right after sharing the first night is, at the least, a very bad taste. However, the player (not Tav) can understand the reason behind it: Gale started the story in order to explain in detail the "why" that has been left up in the air since the stew scene. That "why" can only be explained if Gale discloses Mystra's relationship as the origin of his mistake. So... on one hand, this disclosure right after the shared night is unfortunate for Tav (especially by picking the long version of the explanation in which Gale shares too much unnecessary detail). On the other hand, if he omits this relationship, it's harder to explain the context of why he got the “orb” in his chest.
In general I think this scene has been handled poorly. The whole “conflict” portrayed here implies two aspects: He slept with Mystra, and he has an explosive “orb” in his chest. Neither of them are truly big arguments for the drama degree that this scene seemed to have been written because we already know, to a certain degree, about them.
The “orb” is not truly “such a revelation” at this point. The stew scene alone gave Tav and the player a clear idea that something in Gale could cause a catastrophe without consuming artefacts. After the death protocol that certainty is clearer. So, these “revelations” are more like “extra details” of problems we already know about. Which is what he exactly says when introducing this scene: “Those are but the broad strokes. The time has come to paint you the true picture”.
Having past lovers seems also a strange concept for a “betrayal”. Adults carry pasts. It's true that maybe speaking of a past lover in the same moment he awoke with a recent one is in a pretty bad taste; it's a bit more understandable when you finish the scene: the origin of the “orb” problem was Gale's love for Mystra, so it makes sense to start from her. However, I see the conflict of the conversation switching constantly in three directions: the fact that Gale had a lover that didn’t talk about the previous day, that “Gale is still in love with Mystra”, and that he has an “orb” that Tav “never” knew about it. A very inconsistent conversation.
It's true that Mystra is not a standard lover—she is a goddess—but she is quite known to have these affairs (at least for the player), especially during her past when her direct contact with any human was not banned. It should be more surprising that Mystra seemed to have broken that ban for Gale's case (since she only kept in direct contact with her chosen ones: Ao's decree). And it's also clear the scene tries to show that Gale is still “in love” with her, which is very confusing with what he spoke during the Loss and mainly, during the second dream. Again, I personally feel the scenes of the party and the romance are a mess from a cohesive narrative point of view, and they are the result, alongside Gale's first meeting, of his rushed introduction into EA.

Seeing the dragon age discord, im obligated to ask for your opinion on my (and my daugher's) favorite Solas trait. His flimsiness. He once said that after making the veil, he awoken one year before DAI, so he woke up, decided he fucked up and made his mind on genocide in ONE YEAR. He is a immortal elven god. But he makes very human mistakes and decisions inspired by the heat of the moment. I'm interested in your opinion, and if you answered this beforer, im fine with you ignoring this ask :)
I actually really disagree with this characterisation of Solas because he's extremely measured and well-considered and constantly is trying to strike up conversation with others and understand them even when it makes him angry (like Dorian excusing slavery or the Qun). Solas walks the dinan'shiral (journey of death), this is extremely serious business.
The quest where you find the future ravaged by Red Lyrium and decide to avert that future is meant to show you exactly what position the Dread Wolf is in. If you made a swift decision to avert that world, what position do you think he is in once he's woken up? To him, this IS the bad future. Every elf that is currently dying is dying because of him because he broke their immortality. Every single life is on his hands when he tried to save them and free them from the Evanuris in the first place and instead left a worse world behind. He is singularly responsible.
We don't know that bringing down the Veil would end in everybody dying. 'Genocide' has a very specific use referring to the systematic extermination of a selected people, which can refer to systematic murder but also include systematic extinguishment of culture. This is an extremely serious and loaded term and to use it in this context is inappropriate and does not describe Solas, because ultimately people who die because of the Veil falling is not something he seeks out to specifically do, and he is not specifically vengeful to a singular people, though he does find many faults with the world he's woken up (ongoing oppression, the mage conflict (this is why DA2 happened), slavery). I also find genocide extremely inappropriate to describe the intentions of a character who freed his people from slavery, who is a trickster god, who resents anything that would oppress people or make them unfree. The Veil - a prison of his own making, but a prison nevertheless, and something he now finds fault in - makes sense for him to try to destroy, especially if there is a connection between the Veil and the Blight or something like that as speculated. He knows more about the Blight than the Grey Wardens but he's very tight lipped on the topic.
Whether you choose to understand Solas' perspective or make assumptions about who he is transforms him, it's a practice in empathy. Whether you view him as someone who makes a quick choice, or in some cases throughout the rest of the fandom as pretentious and cruel, or rather as someone who has agonised - agonised - over what he's gong to do - that he wishes the Inquisitor could stop him, that he wishes it were different, that he wishes there were another way, that he wants to fix his mistakes - makes your world and your Dread Wolf very different. The Trespasser confrontation is the best example of this - whether he's tired and bored by your Inquisitor or whether he's heartbroken, even if you didn't romance him, he still respects and admires your Inquisitor who tried and cared and thinks you are a worthy adversary.
Solas spends the entire game of Inquisition deciding whether his future course of action is correct. That's the point of him as a companion. If he were an easy, flippant villain, he wouldn't have been made a companion in the first place. He desperately wants to be wrong. If anything, what's so hard for him is realising his initial solution wasn't a solution at all. That's not proud. That's humbling. Whether his future course correction is, after all, correct, is another question, but now there's the Inquisitor. On one level, there is a bit of a playful story metarecognition: he's so lucky to have a heroic opponent like you, because maybe you're right. Maybe you could fix it in a way he can't, or maybe the Veil comes down and you figure out an even better solution. Solas works as an antagonist for heroic and villainous Inquisitors - that's what's so clever about it - because to a villainous protagonist Inquisitor - he's heroic. Whether you make him see this world as as being real is based on who your Inquisitor is. He can be sleepwalking or he can be awake.
For people who call him an intolerant conservative, there isn't any real world analogue to him (and ignoring the magical setting and its magical consequences is just ignorant and misses the point of fantasy). As Chelsea (@corseque) once said, it's like if a Viking woke up to find neopagans practising Norse religion as inherited through Christian texts, except even more pronounced because he IS Loki. It's like if people wrote texts about you and then a thousand years later you discovered people had legends about you from a different cultural source, you were THERE when these things happened and YOU'RE now the figure of myth and worship and scapegoat.
I also recommend reading Chelsea's Solas tag because she's said more on him than I ever could.
I'm sorry, Solas is neither flippant nor is he intending to commit genocide (intentional systematic extermination). Of course, whether you choose to understand him is your player choice. That's the point. That's why it's a Bioware game. Dialogue and dialogue choices matter. He can be the many-eyed Pride demon black wolf or he can be the soft white wolf.
So I'm not going to tell you to change your mind or your daughter's (that's sweet you share it). I am simply sharing my opinion as you asked for it and why I feel Solas is such an interesting and amazing character. He wants to talk, and when he does talk it can even be in poetic melody (to the tune of Hallelujah, I can't find the source for it but I first saw Chelsea discuss it - here's a Reddit post):
I’ve journeyed deep into the Fade (8) in ancient ruins and battlefields (8) to see the dreams of lost civilisations (11) I’ve watched as hosts of spirits clash (8) to re-enact the bloody past (8) in ancient wars both famous and forgotten (11) every great war has its heroes (8) I’m just curious what kind you’ll be (9)
Your faith was strong but you needed proof... that basically describes the Dread Wolf in one sentence.
He wants to listen. He wishes he were wrong. He knows what pride is. He has ideals he's devoted to that he is uncompromising about, to the point he takes others and their beliefs too seriously (like that banter with Sera where he tries to give her information on how to stage a revolution and she doesn't get his intensity). He's a trickster god. He hates borders and he loves freedom. He's not a one-note antagonist. Whether you want to hear him talk or not is up to you.
That's why the final boss fight of Inquisition (Trespasser DLC) is a conversation.

You curious little thing - [Yandere!Dragon x Reader - Short Fanfiction]:
" Deep in the forest, up in the mountains, legend says that a dragon sleeps deep within the caves. And as the old story goes, gold awaits inside his domain, but only those courageous enough to enter the deep cave and defeat the dragon, would be able to take the creature's treasure.
Many have persuaded the quest of defeating said dragon, yet no one ever came back to tell the story.
And while you sit at the comfort of your small cottage reading about the old tales of the dragon's cave, you can't help but consider the story to be just that, a story. A piece of fiction made to scare the local children away from the mountains, or to enchant those that were easily invested into these types of stories.
It seems like you're one of those that were fascinated by the old tales. Regardless of if you find it true or not. The old tales still hold a mysterious charm that manages to keep you intrigued no matter what age you re-read them.
Tales of the forest spirits protecting their land with mischievous wit, tales of monsters that crawled out of your bed to cause nightmares on the simple minded, tales of mighty dragons who could easily rule the world if they so pleased to.
Yet they didn't. Either because they didn't want to, or maybe they really didn't exist. Who knows, right [Y/N]? Not that you, a simple commoner, would know any better.
Although, from the tales you read, isn't always the common folk the ones to first encounter these things?
It always ends bad, but still.
A commoner would be the first one to be affected by the wrath of such supernatural creatures.
However, as stated before, there is no way of knowing if such a thing is real or not, right? It's been eons since the last time someone even mentioned a dragon's presence in your kingdom, and it's been centuries that the concepts of dragons had fallen into the mythological category.
There hasn't been a single person to mention the beast's names in years. There was no visible way of them being remotely real, right? That sounded absurd.
But of course, like all tales are written, your's seem to have reached the beginning of your own personal adventure when the king mentioned the need of soldiers willing to face the beast inside the cave, who was presumably hibernating throughout this whole time.
And of course, the public had only laughed at this sort of news. You see, your king's authority over the entire land has been dangling by a thin thread. The taxes, the frauds, the imminent wars threatening to occur at any second now, has helped a small portion of people to start questioning if not downright rebelling against him and his reign of terror.
The revolution was rising slowly, yet something needed to push it forward, the straw that broke the camel's back.
"What could it be?" You might be wondering.
How about kidnapping and force recruitment with the help of blackmailing? Specifically targeting the poorest people in the kingdom and taking their family members hostage if they don't comply?
Sounds so evil that you may think it's bullshit right? So inhumane, that the villain of this story might as well be your crazy king, right?
Oh, [Y/N]. You're absolutely right, yet a little bit wrong considering that even if such an evil act sounds absurd, it's absolutely real. It's part of your reality now.
And even if your king is a vile creature of pure hatred and deserves to be fed to the rats, by being a terrible ruler, husband, and father- You were soon about to learn that there are worse, more powerful forces that can easily overpower the insanity of that sad, pathetic evil man.
To your dismay, your family was one of the chosen ones to suffer from this. Because of poverty, you and your father lived in the outskirts of the kingdom. It was perfect for the king and his soldiers, as you and your father lived distant from the main town, if any of you two ever die on the process of going into the beast's cave, or disobey the king's orders, no one would notice if you two were suddenly wiped from the face of the Earth.
And of course, holding hostage just one person was easier than multiple family members. Although your king was absolutely insane if not completely psychotic, you could at least understand how he moved his pieces in this massive game of chess.
I mean, yes, you understand his reasoning. Still doesn't mean he is right.
Soldiers didn't wait too long to show up and try to force your father to go with them. But you didn't take none of that, you wouldn't let your dying father be taken by them.
You screamed, you shout, you let venom spill out of your mouth by each profanity you threw at the soldiers and the king they claimed to serve. It didn't take long before the general noticed that you were one of the rascals forming a rebellion. Well, you didn't really need to be officially part of the revolution, just disagreeing was enough to make the general decide to take you instead of your old father.
You can still remember how he was trying to scream his lungs out, to stop the soldiers somehow.
This was it, right? The day, for you and possibly all these other commoners to die in the name of an asshole. How honoring.
Among you and other miserably unlucky individuals, there were all kinds of different people. From innocent, to criminals. From young to old, from poor to… Well, mildly not as poor. Nobles would never be subjected to this, you know that. All of these individuals were carried away by a carriage. All crammed into one little vehicle, away from the public sight.
After being far enough from the town and now deep within the forest, the soldiers commanded all of you to get out of the carriage as now you'll begin to walk straight to the mountain while carrying… Gold?
"- It's a gift from the king. Survive long enough, and you'll be able to take it with you." The general said, his tone being condescending as ever.
You could…. Technically run away, right now. They haven't really put any restrains in any of you-
"- Over there!" A soldier alerted the general, who looked little surprised by seeing two of your group running away with the gold in hands.
Without hesitation, or even a slight hint of empathy, the general shot both with his crossbow. Their bodies fall flat in the forest ground, with all that gold and jewelry accompanying them. All that gold being wasted and left behind, just like the bodies of the people carrying them.
You felt sick, the need to vomit was surfacing through your stomach. This- This is terrible!? This is so cruel! How can they continue to walk like nothing happened??
God, how did a once prospering kingdom has now fallen in such a low pit?
As you can imagine, the walk was torturous and it felt like it was going forever. Of course, a lot of questions were emerging about the strange situation.
One: how did the king know and was certain that the myth of the dragon was real and that the dragon was awake?
Two: why didn't he call his own army to attend to such issues instead of the common folk being forced to go with his wishes?
Actually, now that you think about it, why are there so few skilled, trained soldiers taking a bunch of people to a cave unprepared?
Carrying a bunch of gold for fucks sake, this stuff is heavy!
If it was truly a gift from the king to your group, then why were you obligated to carry it all the way to the cave? Sounds unreasonable and if anything, absolutely ridiculous. It would only slow your group down, and for what?!
Sounds like a trap to be…. Honest. Wait a minute-
"- Shit!" You whisper to yourself at the sudden realization that you're fucked, which unfortunately, caused a soldier that was near you to hear it.
"- Nothing sir, I just stabbed my foot in a rock." You weren't lying though. This whole walk bullshit your doing has destroyed your low quality sandals, and now you could basically feel the ground stabbing you every time you stept.
The soldier just grunted at you, and as much as you wished to take his sword and shove it up his bum, you couldn't help but go back to your original train of thought before you got interrupted.
You were going straight to death right? You're not supposed to fight a dragon, but rather serve as an offering?? What?!
You can't even speak or alert your fellow companions in any way. The last three people that have spoken without being directed to, were shot in the head.
The realization has sadly come in too late for you to make any plans now, as you forward as your group walk upwards, following the mountain's trail, you find yourself facing not only the entrance to a presumably dangerous cave infested with predators, but also the gates to your inevitable death.
You would now have to think of how to escape the soldiers and their arrows, or how to possibly make your death less painful. Being eaten by a dragon doesn't sound really fun.
When entering the cave you're met with more-
"- Are you fucking kidding me?!" Someone screamed, while easily accepting their death.
You couldn't help but agree with the person. While entering the cave, you're met with a great ravine, going in a spiral fashion deeper into the cave.
In other words, you have not only walked all the way up to a fucking mountain, but you would now need to get down into a creepy cave.
You almost considered asking for some eternal peace before remembering that your father's life was still in line. You just… Don't want to go away like this, you don't want your father to go like this.
And once again your group, that was now a lot shorter due to the amount of deaths along the way, was now following the general once again. Only this time, the soldiers were behind all of you, probably to guarantee no one ran away. Too late for that now anyway, so why even bother?
You didn't realize how you were on the very front of everyone, side by side with the man that was leading you to your doom.
You felt his eyes fall into your form a couple of times, but he never really turned his face to look at you. After a long silence of just a bunch of miserable people stepping closer to a terrible plan that was not well thought-out, he said:
"- You know it already. Right?" His voice was rough and still held the nonchalant tone that was written all over his face. You doubt this man could have ever smiled once in his life.
You almost choked with your own breathing, the nerve of this man! You couldn't help but let out the only thing you have wanted to say this whole time:
"- I hate you." You say as your eyes start to become a little watery. The feeling of desperation was eating you up ever since you entered the carriage, but only now you felt how bad the teeth of despair hurt.
"- I know kid. Me too." He responded, his tone never changed, even while saying that.
You guess he didn't really appreciate his job as much as you thought he did. Yet, you couldn't find in your heart to pity the man, as he was complicit in all of this mess. But I guess, you do hope for this man to find some sort of redemption, either presently or in his after life.
You still think he did a lot of bad things of course, his crimes are probably never gonna be forgiven. But just because of that, it didn't mean he couldn't start to do some good actions now, not for the sake of finding inner forgiveness, but for the sake of others. For the sake of the innocent people being not only met with unfair treatment, but also being ruled by a psychotic tyrant who is a complete imbecile. No wonder the queen and his son were missing for so long, you would probably have run away if you were them too.
When finally coming down, with your feet now hurting like a bitch, you can find some time for yourself to appreciate the beauty of this place.
You know, before you lose your head? To a freaking dragon??
Honestly, you at least hope that the stories you read were true, because holy fuck- Imagine how exhausted your body is from walking for what it feels like an eternity, holding jewelry made with gold, only to find an empty cave?
Then you would be able to go feral kill one or two soldiers before getting your ass beaten. As you don't have enough reason to just do that right now, right?
You expected to be met with disappointment, but what you truly saw while finally getting into the dragon's territory, you were able to not only feel enchanted by the magnitude of these treasure places, but also forget the danger of the situation, as you look around and remember the tales you read.
This is so much better than what you have imagined it to be like. It's… Mesmerising! It 's beautiful! The underground pond, the glowing crystals, the pile of gold, the stolen statues of the great warriors of your kingdom, golden weapons all scattered across the floor, the white feathered looking dragon staring down at you from his nest, that little tea set that is really cute and fragile yet it probably cost way more than your house, your clothes, and all of your furniture all together.
Oh no wait-
"- We came with what you asked for, Artemio." Said the general fast walking his way to be in between you and the beast.
To say you were freaking out would be an understatement. You knew dragons were huge, but you didn't expect it to be so… Huge! You know??
Oh my God, you're dead-
You looked around to see only you, your group of commoners ready to be probably eaten, and the general. And while looking for the soldiers, you noticed them trying to close the opening with a man built gate, created to keep the beast.
But obviously, that gate looks absolutely ridiculous, there is no way this guy couldn't destroy it by simply slapping it. It's quite laughable, yet…
You feel this is not just a coincidence or a bad made joke. You have a feeling they know the gate is essentially useless. It was really old, so, clearly this has been going on from quite some time.
Has… Has your kingdom been doing this for centuries?? Bringing offerings to please the dragon and beg it to sleep for more centuries to come?
"- This is absolute bullshit!" You screamed, not noticing how your heart was racing and your breathing had started to become frantic. You were panicking while coming to terms with the fact that your whole world was collapsing in front of your eyes. Your scream clearly surprised your fellow companions, yet it didn't surprise the dragon or the general.
The dragon had, well, a dragon face, so you have no idea what it was thinking, and the general was still with the same non-expressive face since the beginning of this stupid trip!
"- What?! You have nothing to say?? You brought us here to die, at least say something, you coward!" You were fuming with rage. How can a person like this be so annoying even when he is not saying anything.
He looks at you with an understanding expression, yet you don't think about what it could mean as you reach to one of the many golden weapons spread around across the floor. They were heavy and quite frankly completely useless, yet you still hold into that golden sword like your life depended on it.
And it did, actually.
Have you gone insane or just completely blind with rage and the instinct of survival? You're not sure just yet, but you'll lose your last bit of sanity to stand your ground.
You aren't going down without a fight.
"- Come at me, you big bird!" You yelled, looking kinda epic and kinda goofy at the same time. You probably shouldn't insult a dragon who hasn't decided who he'll first, it may change his appetite.
Before the general could interfere with your foolish behavior, the one and only had spoken:
"- Where exactly is what we had agreed on?" Like in true entitled brat fashion, Artemio asked the general while putting his head in his pawn.
"- We had to eliminate a couple of the troublemakers. In the end some of the gold was left behind in the progress-"
"- No, I mean, where truly is what I asked for? The jewelry is quite frankly ugly, the gold coins don't matter as I already have plenty, and none of these humans look really edible. Or well… Appetising." You could swear a pouty face was appearing in Artemio's face, yet only one thing had taken your attention. That's the reason why they needed so many disposable people? Oh… Wait a minute, did the dragon just call everyone here too ugly to eat?
"- If you can't compromise with your promises, then I think we'll have to change the deal-" Artemio started getting up from his nest, stretching out like a cat.
"- Oh, please no, can't you just-" The general panicked, thinking that the dragon would destroy the village.
"- I want that one." Artemio said. Pointing at you.
"- What?" You looked behind you just in case you were in the way of someone else. No, you weren't.
"- Uhn… What?" Oh look, even the general was confused as you, and well, the entire cast of people that were thrown in this hell hole.
"- Yes, that one holding the spear."
"- Just… That one, or-"
"- Just that one. And I won't get out of the cave for at least a century, I promise!" He sounds and acts like both a child and a cat, preparing himself to pounce on its prey any moment now.
"- ….. Okay then, fair enough. It's your problem now kid." He said, making a motion for all the other captives to follow him. Which they gladly did, because, you know, they aren't the protagonist of the story.
"- What?! You can't leave me here, you bastard!!" You screamed, although subconsciously you already knew his answer.
"- I think I'm just doing that!" He screamed from the other side of the cave, fuckz they really didn't waste no time at all, did they?
Sigh, who are you kidding? If you were one of them, you would have ran away as fast as you could. At least some gave you sympathetic looks before going back to their "freedom".
You heard the heavy gate closing. Well, shit. It's you and him now.
You tried going back into your original threatening stance, but before you could, you saw a glimpse of Artemio coming in at full speed, taking no time to jump at you. This is it [Y/N], send your last prayers to your father and your old life before-
Before he starts licking you... like a dog? What?
He pauses and you tense up, looking up and seeing a dragon powerful enough to destroy villages, looking at you like a precious little gift.
Artemio picks you up and hugs you in an almost bone breaking hug. Confused and frustrated with how the situation was going, you asked:
"- A-Aren't you going to kill me?" Yes, it was a pathetic question, if a dragon isn't killing you, then why ask it to do it??
"- I have been so lonely since the last human that I chose! I usually prefer to have many friends around but all of the other options seemed so boring, you know?" His voice is oddly cheerful and sweet to someone that sees humans as pets, or "friends". So… What is really going on here?
"- I thought you ate people." You said, still frustrated that you were betrayed and lied to through this entire day.
"- Well, I guess I can eat humans-" Says the giant bird-lizard acting like a child trying to lie about doing something wrong- "- But I really don't like doing it, I promise!"
"- I just wanted someone to play with, you know? All the dragons that I know are just so boring and take everything seriously." He huffed in annoyance.
"- Well… Do you-" You started questioning if you really want to to know the answer, but curiosity sure is killing this cat!- "- What happened to the other humans that were here?"
"- Oh, they… Uhn, they died, because of your shirt lifespan and all ya know." He responded.
"- Oh… Then why did the soldiers bring us here saying you were going to eat us?" Why not go full balls in and ask everything, right?
"- It's- Sigh, it's really embarrassing, but I didn't know any other way of how to ask for company down here." He said shyly, which only confirmed your suspicion of this being complete bullshit.
"- And you threaten to burn a whole kingdom just because of that?" You asked.
"- Yes!" He answered with no shame whatsoever. This guy was a dog wearing a dragon costume, you couldn't believe what you were hearing.
"- Sigh, oh my God…"
"- Hey, uhn, what's your name?" Artemio spoke, he thought that he should also ask questions as he wants to be able to enjoy every second with his new pet.
"- It is [Y/N]. And you're Artemio, right?" You can't believe any of this, really. You went from an absolutely terrible life or death situation, to a… Well, you can't even tell what the hell is going on anymore!
"- [Y/N].... [Y/N]! [Y/N], that's such a good name!" The excited dragon repeated your name multiple times before interrupting your peace once again. You can't be mad at him, but-
Come on, you needed some time to accept everything that just went down. You didn't even notice you were on the floor until Artemio was in front of your view again.
"- [Y/N]!" He was so easy to please, that just saying your name was fun to him.
"- Sigh… Hey Artemio." You sighed as there was no way in hell this dragon would leave you to deal with this weird feeling of emptiness arising in your chest.
"- What do you want to do now?" He asked cheerfully, but not completely oblivious to your feelings of being abandoned underground with him by force.
You stayed silent for a second, again, trying to come with terms with this new lifestyle that you were subjected to. You technically could ask Artemio to open the gate, he doesn't seem to have any intention of hurting you. But who knows? He has a different point of view in this whole thing than you do.
Silence was taking over the cave, but not exactly an awkward silence, just… A comforting one.
The water dripped from the ceiling. You felt the ground underneath you shake a little as Artemio followed your "guidance". He decided to lay on his back near you.
He wasn't really doing any self reflection at all, he just wanted to join in with you, yet all he could think is how happy he is to have someone else to spend time with.
You may only see him slightly from the corner of your eyes, yet you still feel a little, strange, by seeing a dragon mimic your ways.
You don't feel nessecerally homesick, but you do miss your father. You absolutely hate the idea of coming back to the kingdom, but… If you could see your father one last time, and probably help him with the gold that is in this place….
Maybe you could even-!.....
"- Artemio."
"- Yes, [Y/N]!*
"- AAH!" He turned himself to meet your face so fast that you whimpered because of his sudden motion.
He was going to check if you were okay, but you stopped him showing that you were fine, just a little spooked.
"- Hey, Artemio-" You said again, as you were still reformulating your question in your head-
"- Do you know how to burn an entire castle?"

Like Real People Do (Eleventh Doctor x Reader)
Gender neutral. Somewhat inspired by Like Real People Do by Hozier, aka immortal pagan god. The reader dies when they first meet the Doctor, and he seeks them out afterwards. Haha River Song who?
Word count: 2000 (I edited so it would be perfect, that’s right i’m a Writer™)
The Doctor stared at the psychic paper in his hands, the words "HELP, DOCTOR" and coordinates neatly displayed on it. Whoever left him this message had abilities, ones he didn't know about. He didn't like not knowing. So he navigated his TARDIS out of the time vortex to those coordinates and swung open the door to a blaring alarm with a few people panicking in front of him.
"Hello, I'm the Doctor! What seems to be the trouble?" he introduced himself cheerily.
"Doctor! Good, you're finally here. I would kiss you, but rules. Can't do that when we're in danger."
He turned to look at you, completely confused. You were dressed as if you were blending in with the ship's crew. You had clearly established yourself as the leader of the group because they looked at you like you would save them. It was the same way everyone desperately looked to him for answers in any of his life-threatening adventures.
"There is an attack on this ship, and every few minutes the other ship is firing at us. It's leaving holes and breaking the shields. There's not enough power to get them back up completely. I've only put them where they've broken the ship so that we don't lose oxygen. Like patching a hole in your pants but they just keep ripping somewhere else. Don't give me that confused look. Keep up."
"Sorry, ah... who are you?" he asked, following you as you led the group out of the area.
"Seriously? Time travellers. Forget that kissing thing. Anyway, no time to lose. We're going to try and communicate with the other ship because that's what you would do."
"Did you send the message on my paper?"
"Yes, of course. Like I said, keep up."
The other members of the group were questioning both the new person and the current leader of their group, and the Doctor went over a plan of what to say. You all moved forward into a narrow hallway, the Doctor following right behind you. Just then, a loud crack sounded as a shot landed right in front of you, and you cried out as the Doctor tried to grab your hand.
"No!" he shouted.
He wasn't close enough, and you were pulled out of the ship and into empty space against his will. He spotted a pad across the hallway and used his sonic screwdriver on it, bringing the shields back up where you had flown out. The hole was replaced by a dark film that covered the damaged area. It was a small blessing that he didn't have to see someone dying again.
"Who was that?" he demanded.
"We only just met-" began one of the group members.
"A name!"
"(Y/N) (L/N)," said a teenager standing in the back of the group.
"We can't mourn. Let's go."
As usual, the Doctor was able to fix the situation. He made a compromise with the other ship, led the ship with his TARDIS to the closest planet, and gave comfort to those who needed it most with his hundreds of years of wisdom. As he stepped back onto the TARDIS, he felt as though he had lost something. Well, he did. Another person's life. He searched for your name everywhere until he found you. A younger you. He didn't think you were human, but as you went about your every day life, you were blending in with the humans. You weren't wearing the clothing that blended you into the crew, and he liked your personal style. As usual, trouble came along and he was pulling you out of danger just in time.
"Hi, I'm the Doctor. Run!"
You followed him and didn't question him once. And when you followed him into the TARDIS after the threat was gone, you didn't ask about it. He knew you'd make one hell of a companion.
"Time Lord technology. Infinite space in an object," you mumbled, more to yourself.
"You... yes. And you're an empath with a telepathic field, according to the TARDIS's scans," the Doctor responded, and you nodded. "Lonely."
"One of the last of my kind. And so are you," you responded.
There was an understanding between the two of you that seemed to pass. You asked nothing about him, and he asked nothing of you. He didn't know much about your past, just the present you and what you were like. He decided you were one of the most beautiful mysteries in the universe. And for once, the Doctor didn't mind not knowing.
You traveled with him for a long time. He sometimes brought along his best friend Amy Pond and her boyfriend Rory. They became your friends as well. The Doctor would sometimes look at you with pain in his eyes, and Amy would notice. Whenever she asked what was wrong, he would instantly smile and brush it off. It was difficult for him to tell her that he was in love with a person who he already knew would die.
He taught you how to fly the TARDIS. Your smile that day seemed to brighten the room. It was either that or the ship felt the same way that he did about how wonderful your presence was. Your first idea was to bring him to a peaceful planet inhabited by only animals.
"I came here many years before I reached Earth. It's quiet and few know about it," you said.
You pulled him to a small hill to observe the field of flowers and small mammals running about in the grass. You sat down and plucked at the grass beside you.
"One of the few planets that hasn't been destroyed by another civilisation," the Doctor said.
"Oh, no, it does. In the future. Endings bring beginnings. I just liked coming here before that because I was around when other aliens started moving onto this planet. Good for us, you have a time machine, and we can come back here as many times as we want as long as our timelines aren't interfering."
He snorted and placed his hand on top of one of yours, moving it to his lap. He pressed his lips into your palm, and you gave him a small grin as he looked into your eyes. He didn't return it.
"I won't ask, but you always look so sad, Doctor. I wish I could help you."
"You look sad a lot of the time, too," the Doctor accused, "but I'm old. I'm allowed to be sad."
"I'm not as old as you, but I'm also not human. My lifespan could exceed yours and neither of us would know."
He smiled as you laughed, pressing his lips to your hand and keeping it there. Then he told you that he loved you for the first time. He giggled when you returned it, as he usually did when he was excited. There, on that field, he kissed you for the first time. And he realised what a curse it was to love someone dying.
You stayed with him even when he lost Amy and Rory. He let himself feel the pain of losing a companion for once and decided to retire. You joined him, of course. It seemed that he was experiencing many firsts with you around. You joined him as he found his Impossible Girl, who ended up becoming your Impossible Girl. This only became an issue when Clara stepped foot in the TARDIS after a few days of your own adventures, and you both shouted "Impossible Girl" at the same time. You coined her "our Impossible Girl" and the Doctor proceeded to be very mushy and soft with you, to which Clara pretended to gag and walked out of the blue box.
He never took you for granted, as you never did him. Every moment he could, he told you that you were the best thing to ever happen to him. Once in a while, when he was feeling particularly anxious after an adventure, he would face you and put his hands on your cheeks and give you a few words of love. You knew he was afraid of losing you, and you would return his worries with a squeeze of a hand or a kiss.
A day came when you told him you had some business. You entered some information into the TARDIS console and showed it to him.
"We've traveled a lot and I promised some of the people we've met some things. You can just drop me off, pick me back up when I call you," you said.
When he went quiet for a moment after checking the monitor, you started to step towards him. He looked back up to you with a grin on his face and ran around the console, slamming buttons, pulling levers, and sliding around on his boots.
"You need shoes with better traction. I love you, and I'll call you in a bit, okay?"
"(Y/N). My (Y/N)," the Doctor said, his hands now holding the sides of your neck in a gentle caress. "The best thing that has ever happened to me in all the universes. You are the best companion any Time Lord could want, and the best lover any being could ask for. I love you with your strengths and your flaws. I love you more than I could ever imagine. You finish that business, and you do it well."
"Hm. This is hardly the longest I've left you. We had a whole Earth month when I had to be there for a bit. I love you."
"I love you," he whispered back.
He pulled you into an embrace, which you returned automatically. He kissed you and you chuckled, taking the steps out of the TARDIS that would mark your final exit. This was a walk towards your death.
You, with your intelligence. You, with your empathy, no matter how well you showed it. You, with your timer ticking down. You, with both the Doctor's hearts. You, taking the Doctor's love with you.
It would only be a few days for you now, he knew. He put the TARDIS into the time vortex. The love of his life, gone within minutes upon meeting him and dying while trying to save other people. It was a death worthy of a companion and worthy to be his own. He remembered the room you shared. Bunk beds. You hated him for it.
"Doctor, we've been together for hundreds of years! Can you please, for the love of all the universe, tell the TARDIS to change it?"
"You're the empath. You talk to her."
"You're my lover, and she's your ship! Fix it!"
A bit of fiddling with the console redesigned the room. No bunk bed. Of course, you never really minded that much. You knew how much he enjoyed the human invention of a bed with a ladder. He could only laugh sadly, but it was much too early for him to be shedding tears. Perhaps he never would. He hurt and loved all at the same time. He knew the risks he took when he found you all those years ago, and he took them anyway. He never could resist a mystery, and you were his favourite one. He set his course for the first peaceful planet you brought him to, just one last time.
He pulled out the psychic paper. You began and ended your journey with him in just minutes, and began it again when he went back for you all because of the paper. His brows furrowed when he noticed that it wasn't blank like it should have been.
"HELP, DOCTOR"
Coordinates. Just a fraction of a number's difference compared to the first time he saw the same message. An empath with a telepathic field.
This was your call.
"Oh, you're brilliant. You are amazing."
He changed his course, the last lever pulled with the one word that he always used in a time of need.
"Geronimo!"

“i am a little bit of everything i’ve seen in my life.”
requested
MY HEADCANONS FOR THE HYBRID HARRY POTTER HOUSES...
gryffindor/ravenclaw
if you’re in gryffindor you think you’re more “refined” than everyone else, and if you’re in ravenclaw you think everyone’s a stiff
this is the person with the braincell! let it be known that they have it, but refuse to use it
they have to be a little chaotic because they know what consequences are but disregard them
these people call themselves ambiverts but it really just means they won’t talk to you if they hate you
and i say that lovingly
okay, but if they do talk to you??? best people to talk with - they can hold an interesting conversation masterfully and it’s all because their enthusiasm is off the charts
let them ramble, it’s very endearing.
and physical touch is probably their love language so cuddle with them, too
they’re sci-fi and superhero nerds change my mind
now their loyalty is really interesting because gryffindors are really loyal where as a ravenclaws are individualistic and prioritize #1, so i feel like they are very much on guard
befriending is hard - they’ll keep you at bay until they are sure you can be trusted. and they won’t be made to feel bad about it either.
but once you are close to them,,,,, they would save you or die trying
their inside jokes are god tier
i don’t know how they do it other than they know how to make people laugh using the most unexpected methods and because it was such a weird experience, people are able to remember really well?
like, they could say “nutmeg” and everyone around you starts laughing, meanwhile you’re just ???
gryffinclaws are also really interesting because they don’t do well with conflict, but drama sort of gravitates toward them because let’s be real here, they can kind of be actively seeking it out, sometimes.
i mean, it’s usually to avoid having to deal with deeper emotions or even bigger problems, but sometimes they have a hand in their own suffering....
also, these people never study if they don’t like the class. they don’t. if they dislike the subject, they procrastinate with every fibre of their being.
but if it’s something they love, they are the first to get it done and will 100% do extra research and talk about it all the time.
they say they love both cats and dogs equally, and they actually mean it.
they are most likely concerned with wanting to change the world in some way - but they want it to be a tangible way that still allows for creativity and freedom
this is also the friend who stays up wayyyyyyy too late, and when you ask them what they’re doing, all they can say is “memes”
and they really do love memes - send them some. it’s their primary way of communicating
they love going out to get lunch and chatting with friends
food + people = love
they’ll even do it in their room! just bring bread and a good conversation - they can stay up for hours
also,,,, creativity and courage??? these are the people who actually have the confidence to publish their writing/art/whatever, and i admire that.
but writers block hits them so hard... i’m so sorry
okay, but if i understand the meme right, i’d give them wine aunt status.
gryffindor/hufflepuff:
these bastards
but i say that lovingly!
this is your meddling friend - that person that knows all and you can’t hide a secret from them to save your life.
and they seem to know everyone?????
they could ruin your life if they wanted to, but they are sweet uwu children and would never - in fact, they’re appalled you would even suggest it.
don’t let them hang out with gryffindor slytherins, no matter what. they will be corrupted and then it’s all over.
“but why are they bastards?” you ask. well,,,, if you’re acting surly or really don’t want to do a thing™ they will use their knowledge against you, prodding you in the direction you did not want to be going
of course, they only ever use this power when it’s for your greater good, but it’s annoying and invasive enough to grant them bastard status.
10/10 the mom friend.
even has the mom stare.
you know - the whole “you’re being irrational and you’re going to do this no matter how you hate it” stare
they have the m o s t energy and i honestly admire that
and they’re so hard working and dedicated that motivation isn’t a problem? it’s really just trying to get a solid, coherent thought that plagues them.
someone please get them a planner - they are constantly running late, but excited to be here!
100% have cottagecore vibes, or at least naturecore or adventurecore
point is, they want to be outside, doing things
they most likely want to make change in this world, but on a smaller level - with the people they care about, or the place they live
they really want to see what this world has to offer, but they are deathly afraid of being lonely
ngl, they probably get hurt by people a lot. they’re a little too trusting and go in a little too deep and when that other person leaves it does irrevocable damage.
it’s kind of like idealism and optimism, but at what cost?
100% smother their own feelings with a pillow and then preoccupy themself with the problems of others to not deal with their own
get them someone to talk to, please. they deserve it.
most likely they are an extrovert and surround themself with people so that they won’t have to feel loss as hard
spoiler alert: loss is always crushing.
gryffinpuffs believe in people - it’s their greatest gift and worst downfall
and they cannot live without them
do they have the braincell? sometimes. most of the time they share it and forget to ask for it back.
they probably like to do tangible things - like sculpture or knitting, baking, caring for plants....
something they can hold close
and if they read, they 100% finish books in one sitting. they just binge and it’s very iconic of them
probably a romantic, idk
they want a meet cute in real life and read all of the marriage fanfics
gryffindor/slytherin:
now these are the people who smile when you call them a bastard
and are most likely to be called a bastard unlovingly
at first glance they might be a little low on the empathy scales, but if you make it into their circle they would kill, die, and resurrect themself for you
BUT! all things come with a cost.
these are your friends with shifting loyalties. they are loyal until they feel your loyalty toward them fade, and they can and will shift against you for self preservation.
and they won’t feel bad about where their loyalties lie.
but please love them because if you really do believe in them they will feel it and it will rock their whole world
and if your feelings are strong, you’ll be surprised how quickly they can turn to you for guidance
if you haven’t noticed, this group is extremely intuitive - they can just sense what everyone feels about them
all that intuition... and quite a lot of tact
maybe it’s the cunning or the self preservation in them, but they can read a room really well - only bested by the hufflepuff/slytherin - and can sway everyone to their side
you want someone to give oddly accurate motivational speeches? this is the person you’re looking for!
slytherdors.... you either love them or you hate them
but no joke these are the people that the gryffinclaws and slytherclaws are constantly fighting - and the slytherdor is ready to throw hands at any given moment, someone pLEASE send a ravenpuff (huffleclaw?) to save them
if you wanted someone to embody teenage angst, HERE YOU GO!
it’s either that or they are extremely competitive and not afraid to call someone out
if there’s a dueling club, someone please put restraints on these children
as you can imagine, these people have a lot going on, and what they really need is just some quiet stability.
they need to see this world isn’t constantly out to get them.
they absolutely love music, so listen to songs with them! they have the best spotify playlists with the most obscure vibes, and it’s very aesthetically pleasing
also! listen to them in any group setting - they make the best, dry comments under their breath
if you laugh at them they will reach into the heavens and give you the moon and the stars
they really want the ~found family~ and definitely seek it out
they crave redemption arcs
they give me baby wolf vibes - they are wild killers, but they’re at that tender age where they’re still vvv similar to a puppy, when given affection
their slytherin side has tamed the impulsivity of a gryffindor, but the level of tactician a slytherdor is varies wildly. you never know what you’re going to get, and they are actually really good at covering it up
kind of like on those alignment charts where it’s like “looks like they could kill you but is a cinnamon roll” except it’s “seems competent, but is really an idiot”
they really need an animal companion, probably a cat or tarantula
the slytherdor probably doesn’t feign to study - they either do or they don’t and if that’s bad for their mental health then they’ll fight god himself
i get a lot of vibes of zuko screaming at the sky in that lightning storm, where he’s like, “come on, strike me! you’ve never held back before!”
maybe i’ve been a little negative, but uh,,,, their love language is sitting in the dark, holding hands and talking about the lamest part of their day
also, they hate meaningless endings to tv shows - they just want to see everyone be happy or die trying
ravenclaw/hufflepuff:
you mean the adjusted ravenclaw?
maybe that was mean, but what i really mean is that they are the most emotionally intelligent of all the ravenclaws
these ravenclaws know how to use conflict resolution skills, and they are very much needed in ravenclaw tower
they’ve been coaching the gryffindor/ravenclaws, but good luck maintaining their attention if they don’t want to listen
they also have patience! that means they get along well with slytherins.
even if they’re tired, they’re a good sport about it
light academia aesthetic, or just soft vibes in general.
they are probably the only artists with a coherent schedule that they keep up on, while still remembering to stay hydrated and function like a normal human being
they lowkey crave structure - the unexpected is not for them
riddles? those have a right and wrong answer - they absolutely hate it when the gryffindor/ravenclaws or ravenclaw/slytherins give an answer that is “technically” right
they probably don’t tell anyone, though
passive-aggression? yep. i can feel them seething from here.
like, they can solve minor problems and can get over bigger ones in time, but if it’s a huge slight, they are never going to let go
and it’s super palpable when they dislike you because they are so kind to everyone else
they probably have a passion for poetry but can’t seem to write any themself
definitely still keep a book of it hidden under their bed, though
and if they are good they vehemently deny it but continue to write anyway
the biggest thing they struggle with is knowing their direction in life - who do they want to be?
abstract thinking is an art form, and these ravenclaws ponder existence in the most intangible ways you’ve ever seen
10/10 lay on the ground and stare at the ceiling for like 3 hours straight
they can vary wildly on the introvert-extrovert scale, but they are never in the middle. extremes only.
you can get close to them out with acts of service - they give so much, please just treat them ONCE
they attach themself to so many people, though. even if they’re an introvert, you’d be surprised with their connections.
they’re so level headed and yet, they can feel so lost
kind of reminds me of 50′s moms who seem perfect on the outside but have existential crises while making a roast in heels
they don’t necessarily want to be “known” - they probably feel like that definition is changing all of the time, so it would scare them to put themself in a box
i guess they’re kind of free spirits - maybe more like the aunt who does yoga with baby goats and collects crystals and pretty shells
they are great at conflict resolution, yes, but don’t expect them to be your therapist (that’s the hufflepuff/slytherin)
they have absolutely no idea when it comes to deep feelings - they barely understand their own
probably paints, tbh, or at the very least loves to go to museums w/ really abstract art.
they actually have the braincell! they keep it a lot of the time and can be stingy with it.
they either wake up really early in the morning or stay up until the sun rises because it gives them “clarity” or something.
ravenclaw/slytherin:
they’re definitely the blunt friend who will just say things as they see them
yeah, tact is lost on them
they also love to claim that they “don’t need” people, so they butt heads with the hufflepuff/slytherin and the ravenclaw/hufflepuff a lot
they have quite a bit of stratagem up their sleeve, so people can be weary of them
their attitude does nothing to solve this, but it could also be that the slytherclaw has this idea that flattery gets them nowhere
they are so divisive in their individualism,,, good luck befriending them
but if you do befriend them, you have a powerful friend in your corner.
they are 100% that distant relative that you think hates you but you aren’t sure if that’s just the way they are
but let me tell you a secret,,,, their love language is words of affirmation and if you stroke their ego they’ll grow soft
while slytherclaws may not be very persuasive on their own, they actually work really well in teams. they know everyone’s strengths are are unafraid to take charge and tell people what needs to be done and how
they’re also really good at logical thinking, so you definitely want to be lab partners with this one
and schoolwork? they do it and they take good notes. a really great student
and their ambitions and competitiveness means they are unafraid to go far, and they will do it in style, too
this is the epitome of dark academia.
and there is very little that is chaotic when it comes to them - the slytherclaw is an excellent planner
maybe they desire more out of life - they never feel like they are quite getting what they want
they are cynical, but they they have such high hopes for this world
when they are let down, they’re not surprised but disenchanted nonetheless
they ponder the meaning of the world and what this world could be far more than they ponder their own life
they tend to see a bigger, more sweeping picture
100% they love the odyssey and definitely think it’s better than the iliad
they adore high fantasy with every fibre of their being and can really get into period dramas
i would say that a gryffindor/ravenclaw would be a good friend for them - we all know a gryffinclaw can talk, and sometimes a slytherclaw just needs to hear someone else’s take on this world
and, of course, it helps when anyone shows appreciation
okay, but they love sweets - chocolate, liquorice, peppermint, caramel... it’s one of the few childish things they allow themself to have.
they are actually relatively quick to trust? the fastest slytherin, actually
they keep their group small, but they get vibes about people and once you show them loyalty they trust you entirely.
i suppose they guess you don’t have any games because they don’t have any
ooh, but if you betray them??? they are a mess, emotionally, and will not hesitate to lash out.
but they are caring in their own way, and will do little things like reminding you to drink water or bringing you toast if you haven’t eaten and it’s very sweet
hufflepuff/slytherin:
so i know we have this idea of the slytherin sweetheart, but a slytherpuff is so much more than that
one of their strongest traits is the intersection of ambition and hard work - they will not stop until they are the best (in their mind at least)
it’s almost a petty form of competition. a bit of schadenfreude when they win.
and everyone’s immediate thought is that a hufflepuff/slytherin would be the most trusting slytherins but no.
not even close.
slytherpuffs are guarded at first, while holding a secret soft spot for you in their heart. but they won’t act on it until they are 100% sure you won’t hurt them. they are suspicious, but really want to like people.
it takes a lot to break down their walls, but when you do they already have a steady foundation for your trust to grow on, and it’s the strongest thing in this world
because of this they can often come off as cold or distant, but once you’re in their circle, oh yeah. there’s the hufflepuff qualities you were searching for.
a good contender for the mom friend position, but they aren’t overt enough to be so.
they’re not getting into your business or being slightly invasive like real mom friends, but if you need advice or a hug,,,,, this is the friend to go to.
they’re like the nice aunt. vvv comforting, but only if sought out.
oh, they have the strongest moral code i have ever seen - it cannot be shaken or swayed.
but! it can often go against the rules, so you do have a bit of chaos working beneath the surface.
i 100% believe that their love language is quality time, and most of that can be spent quietly, just sitting in the other’s presence.
i feel like 90% of their conversations is hand gestures or subtle facial expressions, so it make take a while to be able to read them, but it also means they are soooo good at reading other people
seriously, if you need a therapist in the group, this is your person. they know people so well. their intuition is off the charts.
BUT ALSO,,,, their levels of introvertedness are sky high. i feel like this is a given, but they can be in your orbit for 5 months and speak to your twice and think that is a decent amount of exposure.
please get them an extrovert. they need the exposure.
sEcReTS??? this slytherin probably has some, but you have to be like at level 50 to unlock their tragic backstory
they also have academia vibes and do really well in school work, but whether or not it’s dark academia or light academia is disputed. maybe grey academia? (is that a thing?)
they struggle with wanting to be known and yet wanting to hide parts of themself they find unattractive or unwanted
probably feel like they’re pulled in too many directions and overthink their choices just a bit too much.
everyone knows they have the braincell, but whether or not they use it is unsure
it’s so easy for their friends to coax them, they probably give it to someone else and never ask for it back even though they should be in sole custody of it
AND FLUFF ENSUES. (i realize some of these are kind of aggressive, so... vibe check!)

Can you do that headcanon collection thing for Kiba please? Thank you very much
I’m so sorry for the wait I’m really struggling with inspiration rn like I have all the words but I just can’t write?? Anyways I hope you like nonnie❤️✨
Kiba Headcanons Collection
What He Looks For In An S/O~
Someone who appreciates animals. Of course, dogs are his favorites, but he doesn’t hate animals at all, not even cats.
Someone wild who knows how to have a good time, just like Kiba. He won’t enjoy dating a square, just being honest.
He wants a woman who’s not afraid to stand on her own two; the Inuzuka clan is primarily a matriarchy, meaning he’s used to strong-willed women.
He’s going to need an emotionally open person, he pretty much wears his heart out on his sleeve, so Kiba needs someone who can articulate their feelings.
He’s a possessive person, it’s in his nature, so a patient s/o would suit him best.
The saying ‘she’s beauty, she’s grace, she’ll kick you in the face’ is literally everything he’d ever want.
I can see him with someone smaller than him just because he has a thing for size differences.
He loves confidence and would swoon if his s/o took charge sometimes, in daily life, and in the bedroom.
Kiba is big on physical affection, so someone with the same love for touch is preferable.
Kiba leaves constant hickeys and you can’t convince me otherwise, so they’d best be used to it.
Akamaru has to like you. Period.
Relationship With Kiba Stuff~
This boy loves HARD, like with his whole heart, and he’s not afraid to show it either.
He’ll love taking you out on adventurous outdoorsy dates, usually, Akamaru will come with but every once in a while it might be the two of you.
He likes games and challenges. I could definitely see him turning a treasure hunt into a date.
He actually loves going on missions with you (there’s nothing sexier than watching his girl kick ass) and will let you do your thing without unnecessary worrying.
He’s not huge on giving gifts all the time, but he does enjoy treating you to nice places and dates.
He has the nose of a dog. So he can smell your… week before you even know it’s there.
“Hey, (Y/N)... I, uh, thought you could use this!” *shoves snacks, a heating pad, ice cream, and a teddy bear in your arms*
He’s not the greatest at picking up on moods, but once he figures it out he’ll be all over it.
You’re probably good friends with Hana and Tsume, which Kiba appreciates, even though he hates sharing you.
He definitely takes you to see the dogs and the puppies, especially when one is just born.
He’s unashamedly sensitive like just love him, please.
How To Annoy/Lose Him~
First of all, if Akamaru and you don’t get along. Akamaru was there from birth so, you know, if he doesn’t like you, sorry hun.
It’s one thing to be appropriately possessive, like not letting girls walk all over you to your man, but he does have female friends and he does not want to be caged.
If you’re not family-oriented. The Inuzuka clan is very much a pack family and everyone is very close.
Don’t ignore him or neglect him, he will be hurt.
Kiba enjoys playful banter, but he also knows where the line is and he expects you to as well
Being a genuinely rude person. Okay, yes, Kiba has anger management issues, but he’s not a mean person.
Not having compassion/empathy for others. It’ll disturb him, I promise.
Arrogance and vanity. Kiba knows he’s the shit alright, but he’s not a total jerk about it, and he expects the same from you.
Soft Kiba Things~
He’s actually pretty good at remembering things like important dates (thanks to his trusty calendar) so you’ll be hard-pressed to find him forgetting things like birthdays or anniversaries.
He has a dog plush toy that he will give to you when he’s off on missions. But when you’re off on missions, he’ll use your pillow since it smells like you.
He’s a huge cuddler and the position doesn’t matter as long as he’s close to you. (makes an adorable little spoon btw)
He definitely has a secret photo album/box full of candids, drawings from Sai, and little things that reminded him of you (i.e. a pretty flower, a quote, or a trinket) but he’d rather die than let it be found, it would ruin his bad-boy persona.
I feel like Kiba would like to feed you every once in a while. Like not in a weird, fetish way (iykyk) but a romantic thing that was rare?
He would love to train with you, like wow that’s my s/o and they’re so strong?
Kiba genuinely melts inside when he sees you and Akamaru interact. Like that’s his life long companion and the love of his life being friends? Woah.
He’s touch starved but for no reason at all except for the fact that he loves physical affection so please give him all the cuddles.
Random Kiba Facts~
His love languages are physical touch/quality time.
He’s not scared of thunderstorms in a traditional way, but just like dogs, the sounds and lightning are overstimulating and he’ll usually spend it with ear canceling headphones and in the basement.
Since everyone has a unique natural smell (he really liked yours) he’ll most likely complain if you wear heavily scented perfumes/body wash.
He knows he’s not naturally responsible so he creates detailed lists and schedules for himself.
Kiba has a perfectly working bed, but he always ended up on the floor so that’s where he sleeps now.
Contrary to popular belief, he likes to go as vampires for Halloween (he says he’s a werewolf 364 days of the year let him have one day) because of his fangs and ‘drop-dead beauty’ (his words).
He radiates heat like a furnace but somehow still finds a way to be cold at night?
Kiba has a good singing voice. It’s deep and melodious and no one can tell me differently.
He’s alright at regular cooking but amazing at gathering spices because he can smell the combinations and stuff so he’ll help you season things, but that’s about it.
He’s a huge overthinker please help him
Little Things~
Favorite:
Place to kiss: The space where your neck meets your shoulder, something about it just really riles him up.
Way to hug: He loves lifting you up so your legs wrap around his waist. He loves holding you and being able to kiss your neck.
Thing to do with you: He loves hiking or going on long walks, especially at sunset or sunrise.
Cuddle position: He actually loves to lay on your chest and listen to your heartbeat with your arms wrapped around him.
Type of date: Basically anything that includes physical activity or adventure.
This or That:
More of a spring person, a lot of new puppies are born then and the weather is finally nice again.
Morning kind of guy, he loves to go go go and his activities usually require daylight.
He likes to cook, even if he’s not that good at it. He’ll enjoy helping you in the kitchen.
Rarely reads for any reason. Don’t read to him either, he’ll be super bored.
Conflict Happenings~
The two of you will probably have more stupid ‘I’m right, you’re wrong’ type arguments, more than real fights tbh.
That is not to say that Kiba won’t participate in a fight. Cause he will.
The both of you are probably screaming so loudly no one knows what anyone is saying it’s just loud.
You getting mad will turn him on tbh (and vice versa too tbh)
Depending on how bad the fight is, he might just start making out with you or yell at you more for distracting him with your hotness.
You’ll be hard-pressed to make him back down during a fight if he’s truly heated, so pick your battles wisely hun.
He really can be sensitive, especially since he will value your opinion so much, so be careful with your words.
In general, he’s not really focused on hurting your feelings, more on winning the argument.
Will probably storm off for a while to calm down, but he is always back before the day is over.
The two of you are used to having fights like that, so a big cuddle session is in order when it’s all said and done.
Modern Kiba~
He’s definitely the sexy bad boy you couldn’t bring home to mother and he both owns and rocks his persona.
He secretly (not so secretly) likes dogs more than his peers, even if he is usually very social.
He’s the one who always manages to bring alcohol to the parties.
I could see him on a football or soccer team, and being really good too.
He’s charismatic, funny, good looking, street smart, and has all the It Man™ qualities and I know he’s the captain/president of some club or team.
He’s not naturally super smart but his mother ingrained good habits into him so he’s generally pretty good at studying, probably still has a tutor though.
He’s a very subtle F-boy, has a few girls he does regularly that don’t know about each other and that’s that.
He probably has a part-time job at a shelter, since he’s not big on working.
Always at parties and is always the center of attention. Everyone loves him.
The red fangs were a result of him being absolutely hammered yet everyone seemed to find them incredibly hot.
He’s a loyal friend, but he also won’t hesitate to cut you off if you wrong him (he liked his dog better anyway)
He’s so messy it’s up to his roommate to keep him in shape, and thankfully it’s Shino, who somehow manages to keep it a decently tidy living space.
Has the worst hangovers ever but still never learns??
He’s the wild friend that spices up everyone’s life and knows that you need his craziness.
Bite me, Kiba, plz

Match Up Requests: CLOSED.
Please read the rules before requesting
Match up for: @melancholicbutbeautiful
Okie dokie! I match you with....
The 9th doctor!
I know. This isn't everyone's favourite Doctor. He isnt as cute as the 10th or as puppy-man incarnate as the 11th but hear me out. I think he needs you.
Let's start simple, shall we?
He absolutely adores your height.
Standing at an impressive 182cm (6 feet), the 9th would be all over you. He's got a good 18 cm on you. Fully expect him to be "accidentally" leaning on your head and cracking short jokes at the most inappropriate times.
You're running from Daleks (it's an occupational hazard)? He'd say something along the lines of "hahah! I'm suprised they can even see you down there!" Cue and unamused glare from you. It's like.... we're trying not to die here and NOW you are making a short joke? Seriously?
~
You both probably meet at a museum. One of those quirky wax museums. Life-like historical figures expertly sculpted in wax, their empty eyes somehow full with false life. It combines both your passion for history and art, enabling you to walk up close to these esteemed figures who shaped our society.
But you can't focus on the wax creations, nor the historical excerpts that come with them. Instead, you keep getting this unnerving feeling like your being watched. When you turn around, you catch this one guy staring at you. So you look back at him like ???. And instead of quickly looking away like a NORMAL person would he just continues to stare.
So now things are awkward and your kinda tempted to reach for your keys. You know. Just in case.
And that is when you feel someone grabbing you from behind. Weirdly cold hands wrap around your arm, constricting you in a white-knuckle grip. Spikes of numbness shoot up your arm as the blood circulation is cut off to your hand.
You whirl around to face your attacker and are like ???. Why the HELL is Bob Ross attacking you? Like. What?
That was when the fire alarm began to go off.
Before you could react much, someone full on BEHEADED Bob Ross. He immediately releases you and promptly walks himself into a wall. The now headless wax Bob Ross backs up, then moves forward again. Then hits the wall. Rinse and repeat.
The guy who was staring at you earlier, now clutching the ironically red fire axe. Guess you now know who pulled the alarm.
The expression on this guy is borderline mianical as he Cheshire grinned at you. "Hi! What's your name?"
"Uh... y/n..."
"Nice to meet you, y/n, I am the Doctor. Now. Run!"
He grabs your hand and you charge for the exit, herding everyone else out of the museum as more and more wax figures come to life.
Springing into animation, they kinda slowly amble after you. It's not exactly efficient but it is pretty damn threatening.
This moment lead you into a series of events that eventually concluded in you both accidentally almost blowing up Big Ben to stop and alien hive mind from taking over Earth.... whoops. Not that it mattered to much. Because despite the terror and confusion that seemed to now be perpetually stricken in your mind, you had the time of your life.
But despite your pestering and begging, the Doctor adamantly refused to allow you to tag along on his next adventure. He wouldn't explain why. Instead he just dropped you off at your house, swearing to wipe your memory if you spoke a word of this to anyone.
Of course, you called him out on it, asking him if you could meet the "Men in Black" later.
He wasnt amused by your jab, saying that you reminded him of someone who we couldn't afford to lose again... and then promptly vanished after that
At first you thought you would never see him again. That he was just a phantom that emerged in your life, a chance crossing that never should have been. The moment your life was touched by something bigger... greater than the mundane reality you have been so long trapped it.
It was intoxicating. Addicting.
But as fate would have it, you did meet again. Except this time you weren't saving him from a domineering alien race, or robotic tin cans that sewed a path of destruction. No. You were saving him from himself.
~
Cut off from his own kind, the 9th Doctor was a damaged man, disparagingly grieving over the intense suffering he had witnessed; the destruction he had inflicted on his people as the result of his own actions.
He tore himself up, berated himself. Told himself that he did not deserve to be alive. After all, he was a monster in human skin. Because only a monster could cause the pain he had
The doctor struggled with the idea of isolation, he was the last of the Time Lords, having left the conflict with the excruciating knowledge of his hand in its apparent grisly conclusion and he would react strongly if pushed on the matter.
And for whatever reason, he came to you. You found him delirious and beaten down on your porch step, rambling, hardly making sense of himself and... glowing a little? Wtf?
You took him in, and only did not call for emergency care at his persistence and mumbled pleading. After doing the rather peculiar things he instructed and gave him a few questionable concoctions, the glowing stopped and he checked out.
You were up all night worrying yourself sick over this man. This stranger that you hardly even knew. I guess it is just the kind of person you are.
You were there when he awoke in the morning, calling out for you. At least you think it was you because he never said your name. Instead called for a "Rose". You weren't sure if this "rose" was a person or another wacky demand on his part.
You never did find out exactly what happened to him. From what he would say, he had an encounter with an alien species that really kicked his ass. Although you thought there was something more to it than that. Some more emotional undertones and reconciliation. You also did not understand why he came to you. You hardly knew each other. There was definitely something he was not telling you.
Whenever you asked who Rose was, he merely dismissed you or cracked a joke about your height. If you continued to press the matter, he would quickly get very snappy and drop his energized, maniacal façade.
It was after this moment that the Doctor agreed to allow you on the TARDIS with him. And you officially became his traveling companion. However. It was never all sunshine and rainbows. Although it was a rare occurrence, the Doctor would occasionally slip up and call you "Rose" again. He would always act like nothing happened and deny it if you brought it up. It was clear that this Rose person had a major impact on his life so... what happened to her?
~
So. I think you would be wonderful with the 9th Doctor because of your empathy and compassion. You unconditional understanding and empathic nature would definitely be unnerving for the Doctor at first. He feels like he does not deserve a person like you in his life. You are too good and pure. He fears that he will hurt you. So he pushes you away like he always does.
And this is why he needs you. I beleive that you would not stop pursuing him. Healing him. Your compassion and life would be what slowly seals up the wounds of his past and his own self-inflicted hatred.
He will finally be able to see his own worth because of you. And that was the primary reason I had for matching the 9th doctor with you. He is the one who needs someone like you the most.
Also. While you are genuinely empathic and loving, you will not allow yourself to be walked over. As you two grow closer, the 9th doctor will greatly appreciate your quips and sarcasm as it mirrors his own. You wont always be lost and confused like most of his companions end up being. Instead, you manage to keep pace with him. It's refreshing for him, honestly. And he will enjoy the playful banter exchanged between the two of you.
Also your dreams to travel align perfectly with the Doctor's noncommittal wanderlust shared by every single one of his incarnates. Your appreciation for other cultures and ways of life is something he can deeply relate to and will have a blast showing you more subtle cultures that may have otherwise bored his previous traveling companions.
~
Actually, as you two travel the universe together, you slowly grow closer and closer. The doctor begins to develop a kind of dependency on you. Because he only ever feels worthy of this love when he is around you.
Isolation really messes with his psyche. He can't handle being alone with his own thoughts. They constantly remind him of the pain he had caused, jeering and taunting him. They tell him that he will just run away from you. Like he always does.
He probably will try.
Don't think he will get far.
As he opens up to you, he finally tells you about Rose. Who she was. What she meant to him (I'm making this an AU where Rose died somewhere along the way).
And the realization is painful.
You dont just REMIND him of Rose. He is PRETENDING that you are Rose. Because for him that is much easier than coming to terms with her death.
I mean. Can you blame him? You look so much like her. Even down to your height.
All of those height jokes were made because of the way he used to tease Rose.
Your hair, your eyes, even your personality is a painful reminder of her. Which is why is tried to abandon you the first time. It is also why he showed up at your house when he got hurt.
He was running on empty and just instinctually went to the place he knew he would be the safest. At your house. With the person he sees as Rose Tyler.
Honestly it's not psychologically healthy.
So now you have a choice.
Do you want to remain with the guy who is clearly still hung up over his ex? Going so far as to convince himself that you ARE Rose? Or do you think you can work with him. Help him. Heal him and allow him to reconcile with not only her death, but the deaths of his own kind.
I guess that decision is up to you...
Aaand, I am done! Whew. Sorry that one ended on such a downer. Haha. But most of the Doctors are psychologically traumatized and their coping mechanisms are super unhealthy. I would feel like I am betraying his character if I did not find some way to portray that. Anyways. I hope you enjoyed 😁. I had fun writing it.

hey since this is my blog and i can do whatever i want im gonna lose my absolute shit at the parralels between Akasha and Heinwald because hoLy BALLS these two
The main thing between the two of them stems not from their interest in knowledge but from their responsibility with it. Akasha from her adventurer story was revealed to originally be this push-over scholar who believed that all the indignities she was made to suffer would ultimately never matter because she was "nothing" and she would eventually reach her own truth. However she's showing this in an illusion to Heinwald, who after seeing her sacrifice/combine herself to the entity within the grimoire (very likely the TRUE Hastur or even the Ancient-One thats referenced multiple times based off the Stirring Shadows event) to truly become Akasha or "Void", immediately questions the truth of the illusion to which Akasha herself says it may or may not be true but the reality is that she doesn't remember how or why she became this way. Akasha also apparently can apply a universal concept of permanence through time to make either past or future events exist in the present which is why the friendship gang know her even though they've technically never met until the "future" and how she can communicate to her younger self and inspire her to actually be selfish for once. This permanence through time was only circumvented by Heinwald, Lathna, and curiously Curran as well.
Heinwald, after learning about all this just laughs at how much of a hypocrite she is and that he would have much preferred to meet her original self who actually wanted to learn because of her natural curiosity rather than amass information aimlessly, which may seem hypocritical from him but a very clear distinction between Heinwald and Akasha here is that Akasha doesnt care about the consequences of her actions anymore while Heinwald cares too much.
Heinwald in his adventurer stories reveals he's massively empathetic of people and that he feels personally responsible for any suffering caused by his investigations and sleuthing habits because it ultimately got his family killed. He goes so far as to call Euden a greater genius than him solely because Euden helps him realize that he shouldn't be responsible for every single problem ever since that's Eudens mission to build a greater kingdom. Heinwald criticizes Akasha because he doesn't seek truth for the truths sake, but he does so to help people. Akasha on the other hand lost any and all empathy for the people around her because she finally believed she found purpose and didn't have to restrain her emotions anymore. Her family was abusive and negligent, her professor was stealing her research and she was hated by jealous scholars for her work, but she was able to keep it all in because she still had an escape in her studies. However when that was taken she decided to fully give herself up to the entity and merge with them (its implied by the dialogue here that Akasha may have thought she would die in this ritual), abandoning everyone and wanting to unleash the Ancient-One for no reason other than that she has freedom to do something for once so she wants to see what happens.
Based on the ending of the Stirring Shadows event, it's revealed that Akashas goal wasn't actually to use Lathna as the key and herself as the gate (which is implied to be ANOTHER attempted suicide since Akasha decribed that she would literally be wrenched open and summon the Ancient-One out of herself) but rather set the pieces in place for Heinwald to awaken his own connection to the abyss, which at the very end Heinwald pulls a reverse uno on her and says he was already awakened and that Lathna was just another necessary piece for whatever her eventual plot is. She planned to fail her ritual by setting Heinwald and Curran up to find her mid-ritual so as to ensure that Lathna awakens.
Overall these two are such opposite characters yet in Akashas final story she understands she's twisted and CHALLENGES Heinwald to see which one between the two of them would be saved, if Heinwald would accept what he is and drown in the Ancient-Ones all knowing or if Akasha would come to terms with what she is and build genuine bonds with others HEINWALD WAS TEMPTED BY HER BECAUSE HES STILL VERY NATURALLY CURIOUS BUT AT THE SAME TIME THE ONLY INSTANCE OF A VULNERABLE AKASHA WAS WHEN SHE WAS SHARING HER STORY OF BEING ALONE WITH HIM THESE TWO ARE SO SIMILAR THE ONLY REASON AKASHA TURNED WAS BECAUSE SHE DIDNT HAVE A CURRAN OF HER OWN HEINWALD WAS PRETTY MUCH NEGLECTED BY EVERYONE AND HE ENDED UP GETTING HIS OWN FAMILY KILLED YET EVEN IF HE WOULD BE BRANDED A HERETIC HE DIDNT CARE BUT CURRAN ACCEPTED HIM AS HE IS HE UNDERSTANDS HEINWALD BETTER THAN HIMSELF AND FOR SOMEONE TRAPPED IN HIS OWN MORAL QUANDRIES ITS CURRANS SIMPLE LOGIC AND ACCEPTANCE OF HIS MANNERISMS THAT CEMENTS HIM AS HEINWALDS FRIEND AND WITH THAT SAME TYPE OF ACCEPTANCE AKASHA COULD ALSO FIND GENUINE COMPANIONS IN THE TWO OF THEN AND IM LIVING FOR THIS ROAD TO EL DORADO TRIO DYNAMIC
#dragalia lost#heinwald#akasha#zerav meta#stirring shadows#dragalia lost spoilers#XIAHZUWHS IM LOVEING THESE TWO#HEINWALD HAS 2 HANDS BABEY#curran#curran is so hella importabt to the dynamic too

runaway #10
Summary: Shinwon still finds Wooseok to be stupid.
When tasks were given to Shinwon and Wooseok, one of them wasn't really fond of the agenda. Though this may be a good way to start a blossoming friendship, Shinwon still finds Wooseok stupid. Shinwon is indeed heartless, and he knew that himself; there are no excuses. But this certain instance where Wooseok would use his friend and his friend's companion to his advantage really burns Shinwon off.
"You're too much for telling me that I'm not alone and still thinks of me like that," Wooseok grumbly replied to the supposedly unspoken thoughts that he was able to hear out loud from the older.
Shinwon didn't mind, neither Wooseok did, but it is also important for them to talk to each other about this when they have nothing to do but run to a convenience store to buy food to feed their hungry selves and friends.
"I don't use people, Wooseok," Shinwon replied while still having his eyes fixed om the road in this cold night.
People that passed by them didn't pay them any attention. It was like they're nothing in between the reality of this world and only them knew that they exist. When people think that they're in the upper part of the hierarchy just because they have something more than the others, the weather and the gush of the wind would always prove them that they're nothing but a tool—and Shinwon wasn't fond of that.
A dry laugh was caught from Wooseok, "Yeah, sure, you clearly don't," he said with a monotone.
Moments have passed and their legs still wobble against each other when they walk. Their knees are clicking and the store that they were looking for was already in their sight. No one wanted to talk, and no one wanted to open another topic, as if they're afraid of losing everything when they open their mouths.
They pushed the door to the convenience store and the first thing that they saw is a man that is tall, almost as tall as Wooseok, with pink hair and white polo. He was moving across each sections of food inside the mini store and his eyebrows would scrunch up and down when trying to read the letters scribbled down the packaging.
Though the two men clearly didn't care, one of them pushed the other to choose what they were going to eat and picked ice cream for each other to sit down on the bench waiting outside. On the left hand of Wooseok was a plastic bag containing their ramyeon cups and on the right hand of Shinwon was the plastic bag containing bottles of soju to calm their nerves later.
They stared at the glinting moon raised way up above the starless sky. Though the crevices and the contours of the clouds were noticeably moving, nothing about this night was holding them down, that is why they relied on the chocolate ice cream on their hands to double the coldness they felt.
"I am not using anyone, hyung," Wooseok mumbled while he licked the top of the ice cream and bit it. While in the middle of hurting his teeth, Shinwon replied almost instantly, "You're using someone. Don't even try to fool me."
"Well you're also fooling me, so I think you're quite a hypocrite," the younger commented. He felt Shinwon stiffened and looked at the bobbing head of the youngest who smiles inwardly as if he was winning.
"Sure, I am," Shinwon started, not paying attention to the pink-haired man that got out of the convenience store, ringing the loud bell, who also slowly approaches the duo, and watched every movement that Wooseok does, "But at least, I don't use myself the way that you do," and what Wooseok doesn't.
Evident on the face of the youngest was shock and a pooling up anger inside him. He was sure not to show any weakness, but how was Shinwon able to see that in him?
"When I said that you're no longer alone, I meant it, but that didn't mean that you no longer feel lonely," he was sure to be someone who had no empathy and sympathy to show to people. He wasn't someone like Hui who'd hug a person, a stranger more of, when he sees them cry, nor was he like Jinho who would reach up to whoever was there, taller or not, just to let them feel someone's touch.
He wasn't any of them because he wasn't trying to be anyone—even being himself.
But seeing a fragile man like Wooseok, boosted up his ego and gave him a little bit of identity. Sure, he didn't like Wooseok, but you don't have to like someone to be nice to them.
"Don't get me wrong, Wooseok," Shinwon said before munching up a layer of his ice cream cone, "I use Jinho, Hui and you to give my life a meaning because I am envious of how they could smile at each other even if they are clearly strangers," he bit an another layer of his cone, "But how can I get my life some meaning if one of the people I rely to, slowly loses himself?"
This time, Shinwon bit the last piece of the cone and turned around to face Wooseok who's still listening to his rambles. He knew that Wooseok was bracing himself to be strong and was preparing himself mentally for the things that he will hear from Shinwon.
If only Wooseok knew that Shinwon could speak like this, he would never agree to come with him to this place.
"I am not losing myself," Wooseok defended himself, brushing off Shinwon's remarks about his actions.
Wooseok wasn't running away to hide himself from the embarrassment of being caught. In fact, he was running away because someone finally heard his whines that only Hui could hear before. He was genuinely afraid that Hui would slowly lose himself trying to fix the broken parts of Wooseok, that was why he ran away to avoid breaking Hui instead.
"Idiot," Shinwon chuckled again and brought his hand to Wooseok's cheeks and pressed them, "You are," Wooseok resisted the urge to push the hands down from his cheeks and hide himself from him, "So stop doing this to yourself. Stop wanting to die so badly because you really didn't want to die," Shinwon squeezed the flesh beneath his palm once more and removed his hand, "Stop using yourself as an excuse."
Wooseok seemingly stopped breathing and stared at nothing. His ears rung a very loud pitch noise and he knew that Shinwon was right. The man beside him was right and he's wrong. It sucks to admit that, but it's relieving to know that someone knew him better than he knew himself.
Though he wanted to stop himself from reaching out to the man that stood up, he placed his hand on his and tugged on him, "You know, I don't like you," he said with a smile.
And the man he holds on to also replied with a smile, "Yeah, I know, and I don't like you too."
Across the peripherals of the two was a walking tall man with his pink hair that finally approached their vision. The man only bowed his upper body slightly and looked worryingly at the two. Their eyes constricted and a sudden rush of adrenaline flowed through their veins before one of them asked—
"How may I help you?"
"I'm Yanan," the man answered at the question that did not ask for his name.

Bound by Circumstance ― Chapter 21: Come Hell and High Water
PAIRING: Nik Ryder x trans*M!MC (Taylor Hunter) RATING: Mature
⥼ MASTERLIST ⥽
⥼ Bound by Circumstance ⥽
Taylor Hunter (MC) has made it good for himself in New Orleans; turns out moving to a new city fresh out of college to reinvent yourself isn’t as hard as people make it out to be. Things only start to get confusing when he finds himself the target of a malevolent wraith. Good thing someone’s looking out for him though — because without Nighthunter Nik Ryder as his bodyguard he definitely won’t survive long in the twisting darkness of the supernatural underworld he’s tripped into.
Bound by Circumstance and the rest of the Oblivion Bound series is an ongoing dramatic retelling project of the book Nightbound and the rest of the Bloodbound series. Find out more [HERE].
Note: Circumstance only loosely follows the events and plotline of Nightbound, and features a separate antagonist, different character motivations, and further worldbuilding.
*Let me know if you would like to be added to the Circumstance/series tag list!
⥼ Chapter Summary ⥽
Please, please let this work.
[READ IT ON AO3]
“Even with what you now know you would bring them here — together.”
Catching the Elders by surprise wasn’t a part of the plan for good reason; thinking they could get one over on the people who have been planning this for who-knows-how-long would just be arrogant.
Doesn’t make the sharp cunning of Elder Daniels’ glare any less intimidating.
“Do you think it too much to hope they understand why this is necessary? What part they played in the inevitability of this?”
Elder Vion remains silent; his opaque gaze observing both everything and nothing — but where does it focus?
“You remain as blind to the present as ever, Millet.” chides Daniels.
Elder Millet’s shoulders slump. The only one to show any kind of remorse — genuine or otherwise. “A little optimism never hurt anyone…”
Elder Daniels doesn’t deem her worth a response. Focuses instead on looking out over the garden party with a forced disinterest; the mask of her neutrality firmly in place.
But Taylor can see through the gaps and cracks now. To the edges that curl around her real emotions. Contempt, disgust; as though the choice to gather despite knowing the Coven’s plans is a personal attack on her careful cultivation of the future.
He’s the first to address them properly. Down the steps to the decorative gravel the Lamrian decorators sprinkled with crushed gemstone.
“Thank you for coming, Coven Elders.” He’d step closer if Nik’s steady hand doesn’t stop on his shoulder — hold him at a distance. But they can’t seem hesitant if this is going to work. “It wouldn’t be a Council party without everyone on the Council attending.”
He still has no idea if this is going to work. Please, please let this work.
Elder Millet shuffles her tarot deck like a nervous habit. Daniels steeples her claw-like fingertips together in front of her and, like an unspoken signal, Vion’s grip on his staff grows pale-knuckled tight.
Power pushes out from them in an invisible wave. Just once; but once is all it takes. He feels it, Nik feels it — everyone feels how the pressure changes in the air; how something old like the mantle of the earth tastes at the backs of their throats.
Let the countdown begin.
“Explain this little… gathering,” demands Daniels with a sneer.
Only it’s Tonya who answers. She stands on shivering legs with Vera’s help but to call her feeble would be to call the wraith itself a minor inconvenience.
She may no longer have the Touch but Lady Smoke is far from powerless in their presence.
“You’re the one who ought to be explainin’ themselves, Ophelia Daniels.”
The women stare one another down. It’s obvious every second spent standing is agony but hell if Tonya Reimonenq is going to lose even in her current state.
Vion steps forward and stays his companion’s hand. That familiar tingle of empathy down his spine makes Taylor shudder; makes him see Cassiopeia’s blood stained up to leathery elbows — falling to the ground in a drip. drip. drip.
“If the Council has an accusation, let it be heard.”
Isadora hisses from across the garden, “The gall of you, traitors and murderers…”
“Such stinging words to your claims!”
“One of many!”
“Have you witness or evidence?”
“Aw hell,” the lumbering figure of Kristof breaks the growing threads of tension by stepping forward — strangely the calmest he’s been insofar, “cut the crap, will ya? We know you’re the ones tuggin’ that hellspawn’s leash.”
It’s instinct, he doesn’t mean to. Looking away from their very dangerous guests of honor Taylor catches Cadence’s eye for only a moment before snapping back forward. They can’t risk anything longer catching the Elders’ attentions.
“Do you now?” asks Daniels coolly, “I regret to inform you that knowledge will not give your sacrifices any amount of dignity.”
“There is more at risk within this city’s borders than the dignity of the few, Ophelia.”
It must be magic; how Elric speaks clearly and is undeniably heard despite the fireworks that crackle overhead; without even raising his voice.
The sharp curve of Daniels’ smirk is a malicious one. “I will not suffer a cowering outcast to speak to me of dignity. You still breathe only because your hidden city’s wards have protected you.”
“I am not cowering now, am I?”
“The night is young.”
Anger hangs thick and stifling on the edge of every word and Taylor — god — he can feel it all.
The Coven’s unwavering conviction, Isadora’s desire for revenge, Kristof’s refusal to die anywhere but on his hind paws. The strangely smug way Lady Smoke feels like she should have seen all of this coming and the fierce protectiveness Elric projects at him without shame.
But hidden in the woven tapestry of them all is a single thread, sour and ill at ease but no less recognizable. He’s no longer a stranger to what fear feels like.
“If you would, then — indulge us the most obvious of questions;” even with the distance between them Elric, towering at least a foot taller than Daniels and her power-stilettos, looks down his nose at her, “why?”
“You’ll have to be a tad more specific.”
“Are you fuckin’ kiddin’ me?!” Kristof rages. “They’re playin’ us fer fools!” Yet his monstrous howl of rage is silenced by the elf lord’s pale hand raised; staying him.
“That may be, Jensen, but surely I am not the only one here who wishes to understand. Who wonders why the formerly reasonable Coven would change so abruptly. And why they would decide to act now—of all times—and with such vicious intent.”
“It’s not the Coven that’s changed.”
At first Elder Millet’s voice is lost, timid, on the wind. Like a spectre from the beyond there to bolster a claim. But no one misses when she stops shuffling her deck, flips over the top card to reveal a gruesome and bloodied tyrant.
The Emperor reversed.
“There have been signs more than what we witches witness. Signs in the earth and skies, in the lifeblood that runs through our city. But you — your Council — have been complacent; content to ignore them. Focused instead on your own gains and greed. We considered every option, please believe it.
“But this was the only way our city might stand a chance of surviving the coming darkness. A unified voice, when divided, would only serve to hasten our downfall.”
“If you had approached the Council — shown us the signs we so easily missed —”
“When did it become the duty of the Coven to play prophet to the willingly ignorant?!” Daniels interrupts loud and unashamed. “To the immortal and oh-so-wise faire folk, or the creatures of dark magic who should have felt the gathering storm in their bestial bones! Or to you, Lady Smoke, with ears in every room on every block.
“Admit your guilt — not that it will save you. Admit your hunger for power and wealth led you into the blind fog that the Council should have been beyond the reaches of. For the downfall of New Orleans would have been your burden to bear.”
“Had you not stepped forward and assumed some sort of divine control, you mean?” demands Isadora.
“Make no mistake — we chose this course of our own free will. Because we were the only ones left untainted; loyal to this our sanctuary city.”
Elric steps forward, not without caution. “There has been enough death, Ophelia. Stop, now, at the threshold of a fall you will not survive.”
“Every death has been and will be a necessary one.”
Something about the victory in her claim riles Taylor from the inside out. Makes the words throw themselves out of him unbidden—
“Even yours.”
It’s probably the closest Daniels has ever come — and will ever be again — to a look of surprise. A dozen thoughts half-formed on mute lips before she schools her expression complacent.
“An unseen complication indeed.”
But that doesn’t make Taylor recoil as it once did. In fact he’s kind of proud of it. “How about instead of demanding everyone else admit some imagined guilt because of your desire for power, you three do the admitting? Admit you know this isn’t the so-called only way and try to muster up a little bit of humanity— Try and feel even the tiniest bit of remorse for what you’ve done because deep down you know it was wrong.”
Nik tenses behind him. He can feel it where they’re connected; his guttural hissing thought of think about the plan, Rook.
And maybe it wasn’t how they originally hoped to get the final piece of the puzzle but maybe—just maybe—it might go in their favor.
For the first time the Coven Elders part; Daniels breaks away in even, purposeful strides to close the distance between them.
Taylor feels the way Nik tenses, readies himself for the inevitable attack.
But it doesn’t come. Not physically, anyway. Only the look the witch gives him that may very well will him out of existence.
“Your blind stumbling has gotten you far little halfling. But you’ve come far enough, I think.”
“You wanna know what I think?”
“Not particularly.”
“I think that’s not really your call. The same way I think deep down you know you’re just as greedy as you say everyone else is. You’re just pretending to think about the greater good.”
Then there’s a movement; so fast it’s a blur. A stinging pain on his cheek and a sensation akin to tears rolling down his face.
Everything that follows still comes as a surprise despite having been building in the tension on both sides. The night air harsh on his open wound and a crisp ache in his shoulder as he’s yanked backwards and behind Ryder; a leather-clad shield.
Movement in his periphery and Nik goes flying backwards. Hurled by a tornado of unseen power.
“Nik!”
“This ends tonight!” Daniels raises her outstretched arms high to the heavens. Draws clouds from nowhere and everywhere to blot out the moon and the stars. The darkness within consuming the world outside her soul.
“You’re damn right it does—!”
Katherine pulls out Nik’s crossbow from underneath a nearby folding chair; wields it weightlessly as she aims at the witch and pulls the trigger.
Daniels deflects it with little effort. Sends the bolt flying towards the outer brick wall.
Behind their companion the other Elders whisper curses into the very wind. Once-solid ground ripples like water and their influence takes hold.
The trees around them bend and twist; their natural states resisting the witches’ call with an eldritch orchestra of groans before they yield. Roots torn up and fallen leaves and broken branches coming together; an army.
“Ah hell, not again!” shouts Cal; voice distorted with the wolf already pushing against his skin.
There’s hands at his arms — Taylor looks up to see Cadence struggling to drag him backwards towards… what? Towards safety? There’s no such thing anymore.
Still he scrambles up and back. Ducks just as the windows at the back of the House shatter under Elder Millet’s will. Just as she sends the broken shards hurtling in a transparent flock coming directly for him.
Above him comes a barely-restrained cry of pain; Taylor looks up to see two pieces lodged deep in the vampire’s shoulder.
“Cade!”
“I’m fine!” Like he’s trying to prove a point he shoves Taylor backwards, stumbling; “Go check on Ryder! Keep to the plan!”
Wet tearing noises fill the clearing as Kristof the wolf pries free of his skin — Octavia right at his heels. Together they howl at the cloaked moon and take off on all fours towards Elder Vion.
But with a limber motion his withered body shouldn’t be capable of the witch fights back. Whips his staff out; sending roots from the nearest tree to his aid. They lash, sentient, at the wolves’ hind paws — one hits home and ropes around Octavia’s flank, squeezes and sends the Beta crashing snout-first into the gravel.
The Beau-Keyes Garden is in chaos but Cade is right. They should have expected this. He needs to find Nik.
Taylor takes off in a mad dash towards the hedges where the Nighthunter had been thrown. Catches the tail-end of Vera and Ivy pulling Tonya out of the fray and into the House.
A cluster of something dark scurries on the whipping wind towards them, right at Ivy’s back. “Ivy, watch it!” Voice catching in his lungs — but its enough.
Enough for Ivy to turn around with bright burning eyes at the incoming horde. Her peeled-back lips move in silent words and her hair lifts around her in a neon-tipped halo. The incoming swarm — Millet’s tarot deck — stop mid-flight; repelled by whatever curse the revenant has conjured.
The cards shudder, then begin to crumple and squeeze themselves into balls. One last flick of Ivy’s lace-laden wrists and they spontaneously burst into a dozen individual flames, hot-pink heat licking at the air and casting her ghoulish grin of glee in flickering light that burns bright before they are consumed — nothing but ash scattered at her platform-raised feet.
A hand closes tight around his wrist and pulls him back. Catches him in half a scream when he turns and sees the stern pull of Elric’s brow.
“What are you thinking; standing here exposed?! Get to cover!”
“Not without—incoming —” he pulls them both to the ground just in time for a large branch to soar overhead and crack against the trunk of another tree, “— Nik! I have a plan, remember?”
“If your life is the cost —”
“It’s not!”
“Then please, find safety!”
“I’m not leaving them behind!” He meets Elric’s eyes in a long look — ignores the cacophony around them and clasps their hands together. Can’t tell which of their palms is slick with sweat; maybe both. “I need you to trust me, Dad. I can do this.”
And they’re no longer in the midst of the fight but back in time; back to a mere hour ago when he asked Elric to trust him once; now again. “I can do this.”
The fae inhales; nods and rasps, “What do you need from me?”
Thank you. “Get the Elders on the defensive. They need to summon the bloodwraith.”
“What?!”
“You said you’d trust me!”
It’s a struggle, but Elric swallows down his protests and nods. “Very well. Find your Nighthunter; do whatever you need to prepare. Leave the rest to me.”
One last squeeze and they part. Taylor’s already halfway across the garden when he hears Elric shout strong and clear; “Garrus! Lend me your hand!” And it’s such a shock that he almost trips; almost.
Mustering up the last of his energy Taylor vaults over the farthest hedge; goes crashing into the lawn on the other side to find Nik lying limp and still.
No—no no nono…
He moves through the pain. Blinks through the tears piercing pain at his wounded cheek and pulls the hunter to lie on his back where he can check for injury—for a pulse—for anything.
“Nik wake up,” and fighting through the violent shaking in his hands is hard—near impossible—but he manages two fingers to the man’s pulse, “Nik—please please wake up. We can still do this — but there’s no way in hell I’m doing it without you.”
But he can’t tell what’s a possible sign of life and what’s his own blood pounding through every vessel in his body like his blood wants freedom. He tucks a hand under dark hair and can’t help the strangled noise he makes when he feels slick wetness matted at the crown of his head.
“Oh no—no no no…” Fuck now he’s scared to turn the man over; to make it worse. “This isn’t happening, this isn’t happening…”
And he’s not being entirely truthful — not even with himself. The plan surely could work without Nik at his side but why would he want it like that? He doesn’t — he can’t even imagine it.
Taylor looks up and around. Wildly searches for someone who can help — someone who knows more, someone who can do something. But they’re all too far.
He isn’t sure he’d be able to call out to them even if they were.
It’s an actual effort to manage Nik’s limp head into his lap. What the fuck is he supposed to do? Slap his cheek, shake his shoulders like in the movies? Only those aren’t real head wounds on film — just actors with fake blood squirting in packs like ketchup and prosthetic makeup making them look battered and bruised.
Nik is battered and bruised. There’s nothing fake about it. This isn’t a movie; they aren’t on a set and his tears aren’t eye drops. They’re real. Everything about this is real.
“Oh fuck—fuckfuckfuck…”
When he pulls his hand back to the sight of red smeared on his fingers, he almost comes undone. Stays sane only because one fleeting thought, more of a background notion really, rattles in an echo around his skull in a voice that isn’t his own.
Those who seek to change destiny never understand how to bring it closer.
His rational mind is right: this isn’t a movie. Everything that’s happened has been real—from the smallest arguments to the biggest tragedies.
Nik is real. Cal is real—werewolves are real. Vampires, shapeshifters, revenants and spirits and even witches are real. Fae are real. Fae halflings — yup, real too.
And if there were times where Donny wasn’t saved, or the Council did fall to the Elders and their plan, or Taylor died in the cemetery that night, then didn’t that mean there were times that Nik didn’t survive this encounter, too?
But Donny was saved. The Council won’t fall to the Elders and Taylor didn’t die that night.
He refuses to let this be the one thing that can’t be changed.
“Breathe, Rookie, breathe…” Taylor whispers, forces his voice to keep calm and his hands that cradle Nik’s skull to go still. Because he knows how to change destiny this time; he’s done it before.
He doesn’t need to feel a pulse under the man’s skin because when he closes his eyes; reaches down inside his chest he can feel something there. Dim and flickering but so very present. A flame that wants to grow; it just needs to be fed first.
If there’s an incantation he doesn’t know it. But he knows how badly he wants Nik to heal; how bright he wants to feel the man’s soul inside.
There has to be a reason he is the way he is. Why can’t it be to save Nik Ryder?
There’s a flash against his closed eyelids; bright like someone turned on the sun in the middle of midnight. A switch flicking a lamp to life; or logs thrown on a campfire to keep him warm.
And when he opens them he has to squint through the burn of brightness but that’s not a bad thing. Not where that light filters through Nik’s hair askew and tingles at Taylor’s palms. Warms them in rays of daylight soft and flecked with dust motes, wipes them clean of dirt, clean of tears; clean of blood like it was never there to begin with.
Looking down at Nik’s slackened face; searching every scarred inch for some sign of life he knows is there; treading water just below the surface.
His heart skips a beat. Nik’s eyes flutter open; awake and alive. And the sight of color and life on his face is so fucking beautiful that it makes him start to cry all over again.
Around them fades to dim night but Nik still looks up at him with a strange wonderment. Reaches up and drags the calloused pad of his thumb across Taylor’s cheek to catch his tears before they fall.
“C’mon now,” comes that familiar throaty whisper; he doesn’t have to see the smirk to know it’s there like a kiss at the edge of the man’s lips, “sure as hell you ain’t sheddin’ those tears for me, Rook, are ya?”
“‘Course not.” Taylor teases back — bends himself practically in half as he leans down to take that offered kiss because he can.
Because Nik is alive.
They part — Nik holds himself up on a wobbly arm and reaches, feels around his head where even the ghost of his injury is a fading dream. And when his fingers pull back clean and without blood Taylor’s heart stutters back to life.
“Should I ask?”
But he doesn’t even know how to start explaining what happened — doesn’t quite understand it himself except for the fact it was instinct like he’s never known. “Maybe when this is over.”
“I’ll hold you to it.”
Make sure you do, he wants to say; instead touches the curve of Nik’s jaw because he’s there and he can.
Reality crashes back around them; suffocates what’s left of their bewilderment in the large form of a wolf.
It comes crashing through the hedges just shy of them. Taylor peers over the protective form of Nik’s shoulder just in time to see the shine of the werewolf’s yellow eyes before they roll backwards and Octavia slumps down; limp and unconscious.
“Why the hell ain’t they summoned the fuckin’ wraith yet?”growls Nik. He uses what’s left of their cover to survey the fight; locks his sights on Elder Daniels as she pulls at invisible strings and sends a fallen branch forth to sink home in Isadora’s belly.
The vampire hisses and collapses, catches herself just shy of impalement and desperately claws for her freedom.
“They’re trying to take out the Council on their own —” Taylor cuts himself off as he searches the fray in panic for any sign of Elric.
“That ain’t a part of the plan, Rook.”
“You think I don’t know that?”
“Then what the hell’re we supposed to—holy hellfire!”
But it isn’t hellfire — not quite. Burns just as hot but Taylor’s pretty certain hellfire isn’t made of pitch black flame that shimmers iridescent as it races in tendrils towards the Elders; presses them against one another back to back in prowling circles that scorch the earth at their feet.
The mere sight of it captivates the entire Garden. Causes the witches to hold their combined magics out to defend their ranks against the fiery lashes.
Elric commands the stream of fae grimfire like a natural extension of himself. Raises his hand to send another wave in that raise the walls and keep the Elders pinned together.
“Accept your defeat, Elders of the Garden Coven, lest justice be swift and without mercy!”
But he isn’t alone. With sleeves rolled up to the elbow Garrus coaxes the grimfire at the witches’ heels. Sweeping movements of his arms drag the vestiges of it away from the rest of the Garden and tighter against their commanded foes.
This is it. This is their final chance.
“Where’s Vee?! It’s time!”
“Go —” Nik pushes him up and forward; makes Taylor stumble over a pulled-up root now rendered lifeless; the Elders’ magic contained in spectral fire, “— if they’re cornered, they’re desperate. They’ll call him forward soon.”
But Taylor can’t even comprehend the thought of leaving Nik’s side. Of not being there — not keeping him safe. “No way.”
“Now ain’t the time to argue!”
“There’s no way I’m leaving you again!”
“Rook.” And its just one word—one stupid little nickname he doesn’t even like—but he pushes so much meaning into it that Taylor’s feet move with a will of their own. Carry him out from safety’s cover with Nik hot on his heels until he veers into the Beau-Keyes House gone dark.
It takes literally everything in his churning gut not to follow.
Instead he breathes, stomps down the unease building inside — threatening to crest and consume him — and joins Elric in front of the Elders.
Every attempt the witches make against their ethereal prison is consumed and rendered powerless. If he didn’t know better — if he wasn’t hoping for this to be what forces their hand — Taylor might almost believe they’ve won.
“Enough fighting, Daniels. Please.”
The woman turns her head in a lash. Nothing but unbridled rage in empty eyes.
“Your persistence is no longer amusing, little pest.”
He knows his pleas are falling on deaf ears but… but doesn’t he owe it to everything they’ve lost to try?
“Look— you said part of the reason you decided to act was because the Council was so divided. But—but here everyone is! You brought them together. Can’t that be enough?”
It’s a useless question. He knows it, Elder Daniels knows it too. He can see it in her eyes.
“We are beyond the point of peace.”
“We don’t have to be.”
“Your ignorance will be your undoing.” She turns her back on him; on everyone. Joins Millet and Vion in clasped hands and bowed heads as though the grimfire is nothing more than an illusion.
This is what they wanted— what they’ve been waiting for ever since the Elders appeared tonight. But hearing the familiar incantation harmonized between them is no less haunting.
“Claw and blood, claw and bone. Bloodied flesh, endless stone…”
“They are summoning the abomination!” Isadora shouts. Her voice cracks as she gives one last violent pull; wrenches the branch free from her body and hurls it aside. “Stop them, burn them!”
But the plan isn’t to stop them. Still, Taylor understands. Feels it, too. The sickening wrongness in his gut only made worse by the familiar smell of foul and rot that seeps in like a putrid fog.
The effort it takes to hold the grimfire steady shows on Elric’s pallid face. “Are you sure about this?” he asks through gritted teeth. And he’s really not—can’t be sure of anything anymore—but that isn’t the answer he gives.
“Yes. Let them do it.”
“Soar with the zephyr, shriek with the crow. Life renewed we now bestow.”
Elric looks ahead to where the strain of their casting has Garrus ready to collapse. He gives the man a silent nod, and almost in relief and a perfect mirror they pull clenched fists apart to end the conjuring.
The grimfire eats itself from the bottom up. Dissipates at the edges of itself until the multicolored flames are only a remnant burned on the insides of Taylor’s eyelids. Beside him Elric begins to sag sideways as the exhaustion takes hold; he throws the man’s arm around his shoulder to keep him standing steady. He watches in relief as Krom refuses to let his fae collapse; catches him in strong stone arms and with unheard praises.
But the Elders continue their wicked chant; they either don’t notice or don’t care with victory within their reach.
“Arise hellbound soul! We beseech and command Fell our enemies with your cursed hand!”
Around them the wind begins to gather — pushes aside the cloud cover overhead and bathes the Garden in moonlight. Just like the last time they stood here gathered. Just like that night in the cemetery.
“Ryder!” Katherine calls; tosses the crossbow the short distance as he approaches with Vera on his heels. “We sure this is gonna work?”
Nik looks up at the sky with a grim resignation. “I think it’s a bit too late for doubts.”
As one the Coven Elders turn to face their accusers. The wind lashes Millet’s hair in tendrils and billows Vion’s robes; blows Daniels’ collar this way and that yet they remain rooted to the earth.
They stand with their convictions until the very end.
“Perhaps in number you can overpower us,” Daniels sneers, “but whatever scraps of this little front survive the wraith’s touch will be easy pickings.”
Over their heads a shadow passes over the moon. The telltale whip of burial wrappings hisses in their ears — followed by the unholy shriek they know all too well.
Daniels’ hands raise to the sky as the bloodwraith approaches.
“Come wretched creature; come accursed traitor! Pay your oath in the blood and bone of our enemies! Know no rest until our great work is done!”
The bloodwraith descends slow; places itself between the Elders and the rest as a shield grotesque. This time is no different than before — the very sight of it makes the hairs on the back of Taylor’s neck stand and scream to run, flee, there is no salvation here.
He used to think nothing could equal the void and despair where Death itself burns black in its eyes. But now that he sees them in the same space, he sees the same lifeless purpose like a stain over Daniels’ face.
But knowing what he knows now has Taylor looking at the wraith in a different way. Still with the same revulsion natural of the living to the violent dead — but he tries to imagine the face that once framed that skull as the same one from the photograph in Cadence’s office.
Familial features shared by both Tonya and Vera now twisted, warped by bloodlust and the unnatural.
And even worse — finds himself searching for some hint of the first victim to all of this madness. How could something so evil come from a soul like Cassiopeia? He didn’t even know the girl and yet those brief moments sharing a piece of her soul — her last moments — gave him a grief he felt tasked with bearing the burden of.
Behind him there’s a rustling; a bundle wrapped in cloth passing from Cade to Vera’s bare hands.
“What are you doing?”
Vion’s croaking voice breaks through the tense silence. Matching looks of wary apprehension barely restrained as they pass between each of the Elders.
Their confusion is understandable. Nothing has stopped the bloodwraith in its grisly pursuit before.
But this time is different. Whatever mangled bits are left of Derek Reimonenq’s soul feel it. Taylor feels it; behind him his companions feel it too. The Elders are just the last to notice.
“What are you waiting for?” but Elder Millet’s voice isn’t as strong as the others — her concern betrays her; “You are tasked by your summoners. Go forth!”
Hackles rise when the creature inches forward only just. But Taylor stands his ground.
“That’s not right though, is it?”
“Silence halfling!”
No, no more silence. “It wasn’t you that summoned it. Not the first time. That was Cassiopeia—you remember her?” — there’s no denying the recognition, the last bit of life that flickers and dies behind the Elders’ eye s— “The witch who you were supposed to protect and care for, who was so scared of what she could do… but cared more about thanking you for taking her in when no one else would.
“She was willing to do anything, even the thing that scared her the most. And you took advantage of that.”
“How dare you speak of such things—” says Millet. Elder Millet who she trusted, who she looked up to; who led her like a lamb to the slaughter.
“Who else is gonna speak for her? Certainly not you!”
“The girl’s sacrifice was a noble one, you will not diminish that!”
“She didn’t even know there was a sacrifice to make. Admit it,” and it’s awkward, ducking his head around the bloodwraith that hovers between them like a horrible marionette waiting for the puppet show to begin, but he has to look her murderers in the eyes because Cassiopeia never got the chance.
“You knew what you were doing was wrong. That’s why you dragged her out of her bed in the middle of the night, placated her like she was doing something good. Because it was the only way to get her to agree.”
The tiniest shame bubbles up from Millet’s direction. Makes it all the more important that he stares over that skeletal shoulder right into her eyes.
“She may not have known the extent of what we needed of her… but she did do good for the future of the Coven; for the future of this city.”
“She didn’t know because you didn’t tell her.”
A scoff drags his attention away to where Elder Daniels has rounded on her companion — a fist clenched in the barest show of restraint. “Do not lose your conviction now. At the accusations of this—this ignorant child!”
She rounds back on Taylor every inch a wraith in her own right—reaffirms what invisible tether ties Reimonenq the wraith and the Coven together with palms raised to the sky; “Enough of this! Kill the halfling first! I command you!”
The bloodwraith’s neck cranes back at an unnatural angle and it howls to the wind, bloodstained talons reaching out and forward; compelled to attack.
His breath catches in his throat and Taylor squeezes his eyes shut. He braces himself—
For the pain that never comes. The icy grasp of a fate worse than death that he still can only imagine; still must only imagine.
Peeks a tentative eye open to the sight of Cassiopeia’s severed hand stretched out in Vera’s quivering grasp.
A firsthand witness to how the small and humble sparks in Vera’s breast ignite into a blaze that consumes her soul.
“You will not.”

HOW CHIBNALL PISSED ME OFF
I have been away from Tumblr for years, but here I am now. The reason for my return is simple: Chibnall pissed me off and Facebook is not the right place for a a rant like the one you are going to read. Posting it on twitter would make more sense, you say? Probably. But I have no time to count words. I will start with why I had high expectantions on Chibanl and then I will explain how he shuttered every single one of them.
1. When I heard Chibnall was coming after Moffat I was happy. I have always had that twisted relationship with Doctor Who where I loved the adventures, the adrenaline, the jokes, the discoveries, the aliens, but I also loved the feels and angst that came with the Companions and the Master. I had seen Broadchurch, so I “knew” Chibnall, I was sure enough he would not mess around. I was so wrong
2. Female!Doctor. Not a fan. Nu-uh. I have never felt the need for a female Doctor. There were plenty of great female characters in Doctor Who, both in the Classic era and the New era. Every single one of them had their own personality, their own skills and flaws. It was great, because they were actually people. Doctor Who was the first show that I watched where I didn’t get annoyed by female characters. They were strong in their own ways, and that didn’t mean being a super killing machine without special fighting skills. They were real and they were fundamental. Without them the Doctor lost his moral compass and we saw that more than once. So no, I didn’t need a female Doctor, I was alreay represented by amazing women in the show who were not less important than him. Moreover, I have no problem feeling represented by a man, I mean... men are still people, they have feelings and I am capable of understanding that. It’s called empathy. I am not so stupid that I cannot relate to a character only because they don’t have my genitalia.
3. Lack of imagination. Another problem I have with a female Doctor is the same I have when authors remake characters, when they change gender or ethnicity to a character to give people representation. It’s insulting. You are basically saying that you are not capable of creating a new character for that minority (being women, an ethnic group or disabled people) without using a pre-existing character. It means that in your head, to detach yourself from the negative stereotypes, you need a white male model because you are not able to imagine a minority character without those flaws on your own.
4. Companions: Graham was fun compared to Ryan and Yaz, but if we compare the Companions to the older ones, the new ones lose. And lose real bad. They left me nothing. They characterization is non-existent, they follow the Doctor and that’s it. Ryan should have disability but it appears only when the screenwriter remembers. Meh. I don’t have much to say about them, they really didn’t left any impression on me. I was not fond of Martha and I can list reasons why, I couldn’t stand Clara and I can go on 30 minutes saying why. These new ones are just... meh.
5. The Doctor. I didn’t see him... her... them. Let’s start with a note: I saw Jodie in Broadchurch and I didn’t like her there, so when I found out she was going to be the new Doctor, I was not amazed. If it had to be a woman, I would have preferred someone else, but anyway. This Doctor didn’t have any special features, it just looked like an hyped 10 or 11, but without their depth. Kind is an adjective, not a character trait. I feel that her character was not studied enough, she didn’t have enough depth. It got better with the beginning of this new season but honestly? You can’t be able to write a character properly only when they face their nemesis.
6. The episodes. Oh. My. God. The first season of this new Doctor was a series of episodes that looked like they jumped out of the 60s. Teaching people through an entertainment show doesn’t mean you have to take the show, make an episode on whatever the problem you want to discuss is and make some sort of documentary about it. It means you try to explain to people through fun, adventures, analogies... those who watch DW now are not 6 years old. They know that if you show them a genocide on another planet with segregation, spaceships etc, you are telling them not to be racist assholes. They do not need Rosa Parks to give them a lecture. Episode in which appears a villain with an unkown objective and we don’t see ever again, but ok.
7. The cherry on top. The timeless children. What. The. Actual. Fuck. So Chibnall just decided to take 60 years of TV show and toss it into the garbage can, right? That was the purpose, right? Because otherwise I don’t see it. So the Doctor is a creature from another planet, not Gallifrey, who can regenerate. The Gallifreyan see them, think “oh nice” and go all Frankenstein on them. Noice. I have just a teeny tiny itsy bitsy problem with that. And for one I mean so many that they are more than the leaves on the trees in the Amazon forest. You are nullifying “End of time”, “This is Gallifrey”, the 50th anniversary... moreover Clara saw their past, she would have seen that something was off. They can’t remember? Fine. But it’s still there, it’s not like they transplanted their brain.
8. The name of the Doctor. The big secret. The name that must never be spoken. The name that was keeping the universe together... and they revealed it like that. Brendan? Really? The name of the Doctor was a legend, you were not supposed to name them for real! Brendan? SERIOUSLY?
9. Doctor and Master. They were friends since they were kids. They grew up together. They studied together. They went on adventures together. They lost friends together. They grew apart and they kept fighting each other... but they were best enemies. Ok, a couple of times one really killed/let the other die, but go back to the beginning and count those times. They were two faces of the same coin, getting on each other nerves and saving each other over and over again. For the Doctor, the Master was the only other Time Lord in the universe for so long he was willing to pardon a genocide to save him (more than once). Their relationship was based on the fact that in a way they were complementary: the Master has no restraints, while the Doctor tries to be good when they both have done so many terrible things (including genocide, eh Doctor? You are not so innocent, honey). Their relationship was beautiful and painful. And it went down the drain. You are telling me that the Doctor is a superior being, they are not equals anymore, they are not two faces of the same coin, they are not even the same species so what are we talking about? And the coldness of the Doctor while she lets him die? Who the hell are you?
TL;DR Chibnall took a character I loved from a show I loved and torn it apart. The season and the characters were not written as I expected, I mean that they were 2D version of themselves, no depth there. Nothing interesting. I think he tried too much all at once: female Doctor, 3 companions, one shot episodes. Man, pick one thing you want to change and stick with it. You already have to run a show you have never run before, so you have to understand how to make it work. 4 characters are difficult to handle all at once and at the same time give them all the right space, depth and characterization in seasons that have less than 15 episodes each.
I am so pissed. I didn’t appreciate Jodie, but in a little corner of my mind I had always tought I would come back to Doctor Who once she was gone, but that’s not possible anymore. Funny thing is, this show made me meet the majority of my friends, the people with whom I started hanging our 6 years ago. We would have never met without DW probably. I kind of feel robbed now.

All Answered: 93 OC Asks Game
Finally...i did it! @cynicaljapanophile @catherinestark-hphm @thereluctantherosrose
Basics:
1. What is their gender?
Male
2. What is their sexuality?
Straight Demisexual
3. What is the meaning behind their name? Do they have any nicknames?
David is just a default name for me, and so his surname(Denneth), his second name(Jager) is just Hunt/Hunter in German(of all my OC, he is the only one with this second name)...basically my MC’s name is “Default Jager McDefault” hihi, because i don’t have fantasy with names(and i suck in remembering them).
4. Do they have any siblings? How many? Are they older or younger? Which sibling are they the closest with?
Blood-related only Jacob, and their relationship is weird for being brothers, they care about each other but they also insult each other to the point to start gruesome fights, expressing their violence to each other is their way to talk, there is no hate or bad feelings in their actions, it’s more like “Please show me how strong you are” or “Did you learn this?or This?Let me show you!”
From not blood-related family, there is Badea, childhood friend and basically a foster-sister(because her Mom adores David, enough to work hard with his husband in creating the perfect combination of Magic Knowledge and Muggle Technology and creating a new kind of metallic limb/automail, and sending gifts like every year or something).
Then there is an OC named Joshua Cole, little brother of Gryffindor’s Prefect Angelica, that basically is Bea Haywood, but male and Gryffindor, but while Bea goes for rebelling all by herself, Joshua sticks with David that he is the embodiment of a revolution in his opinion(David is basically doing what Teachers and Aurors or Adults in general, should do for the sake of having a safe place where to teach magic to their kids); So Joshua just everyday works hard for the sake of learning from David, not only advanced spells or martial arts, but more about empathy and his way to see things in the first place, because in his opinion “There should be always a David in this school, someone who is able to notice problems or paradoxal rules and yells to adults and when they don’t listen, just try to change the situation”. So Joshua is the classic hyperactive little brother/companion of David.
5. What’s their relationship with their parents like? What about other relatives?
With biological parents the relationship is bad, Father is mostly absent and Mother(Gloria Denneth) is an insane ghost with the same ideals of a random deatheater…
While with Badea’s Family(Denneths’ neighbors) everything is heavenly, so peaceful and joyful...
6. What would they give their life for?
He rather don’t give his life, but for Penny he would, maybe Rowan...with everything happening in the game, David would rather find a different solution rather than dying. Seriously, the list of people he would sacrifice himself for, is quite short and it doesn’t includes any canon-characters not because their invisible plot armor but because he cares for them but with all the crap they threw at him(like their personal problems and stuff) he deserves to consider them “second class friend” (And of course, he would NEVER give his life for Merula)
7. Are they in a romantic relationship? With who? How did they meet?
Penny “Cinnamon Roll” Haywood and all the questions are here:
https://callmederok.tumblr.com/post/187552796534/all-answered-romance-asks
8. What do they believe will happen to them after they die? Does this belief scare them?
His body will be in the physical world, so it will be in a coffin or used for nourishing a tree or something, while his soul will go back to the Limbo, otherwise known(for FMA-fans) as where THIS guy lives:
His soul and the echo of his thoughts will cross the door, David as “spiritual being” will be cleaned, his memory wiped out and once he is clean, his soul will go back in the mortal world as a new being totally unrelated to David Denneth, and living as a new person. That’s what David thinks about dying after he learned the basic concept of alchemy of “All is One and One is All” and then met God twice. He is not scared but he is sad...it implies the theory of reincarnation but the ideas of your identity being wiped out is very sad and depressing, he accepts it, but it’s still sad.
9. What is their favorite color? Favorite animal?
David likes the colors Green and Blue, and yet, because his hair’s color and the color of his eyes...everyone gives him Red/Gold clothes...and David is a dog person...literally
10. What are some of their talents/skills?
Talent with Alchemy, Talent with knives, He is a good chef, he is a fast learner, good with apparating, he is a good fighter...there are many talents(to the point that i think that Jam City read some manhwa like The Gamer, where the main character can have access to all the possible and conceivable abilities in the universe to the point that literally the main protagonist of The Gamer literally evolved into a Demi-God starting from being a random human with magic abilities who loves videogames!...and i think this because for some reason MC in HPHM is talented in basically everything! So i’m trying to make my version of MC less god-like but still customized enough to being able to say that his MY mc)
11. If they could make a mark on history, what would they like it to be?
The classic travelling nice guy who is a hero but like i said...a travelling nice guy who helps everyone, more like a walking legend than a guy who marked the history.
12. How old are they? When is their birthday?
23th August
13. What do they do for fun?
Tries things mostly. goes hiking, prepare a meal, play Quidditch? Read a book full of jokes?Reply to Insults Snape?
14. What is their favorite food? How often do they get to eat it?
David likes healthy food/easy to digest food, David likes efficient things…so even if he may like the taste of something, if it’s unhealthy or alter his usual schedule(like having stomach ache suddenly during a lesson) he will hate it(probably forever). Something he really likes though is seafood, like sushi, and he has quite some seafood in hogwarts like sandwiches with salmon or tuna but in general all kind of eastern food is nice(like noodles and stuff) of course like every human he loves Pizza but for his mentality is a “celebration food” the kind of things you eat when you have a reason for celebrating(like Acing the OWLs or NEWTs, or during Birthdays).
15. What was something their parents taught them?
His father, mostly the basics of alchemy and survival in the woods and maybe how to cook something decent...so David would be independent enough to not needing his father(so Father could be absent as much as he want while searching for Jacob, before David was the right age for attending Hogwarts)
16. Are they religious?
It’s hard to explain, he made hypothesis about afterlife after he met God(or the Truth-guy) but he doesn’t have faith, he knows some prayers(Christians and Muslim) but he prays basically when other people are praying and he had to blend in for some reasons...
17. Where were they born?
[Where Badea is born, they’re childhood friends and her mother treated David like a second child]
18. What languages can they speak? Where did they learn these languages?
English, some German(his father is german), Latin(many alchemy-books are written in latin, his father taught him enough latin to read them), then when he’ll be an adult(in cursebreaker!AU mostly) he will learn many magic-language, some ancient egyptian, ancient elvish(enough to understand it and say some sentences)
19. What is their occupation?
Based on AUs: Auror or Cursebreaker
20. Do they have any titles? How did they earn them?
No titles (because probably you need some kind of authority for being entitled...right?) but he has many nicknames(mostly during HPHM).
In the DragonAge!AU David get proven as first Human Paragon of Orzammar for sharing knowledge about forging new kinds of alloy and shared how to produce them while Penny is treated like a Keeper in various Daelish Communities for her knowledge about potions and healing abilities...
Personality:
21. What is their favorite thing about their personality?
He cares, he loves being around kids and being like the coolest big brother and he loves the fact that he loves every second of it.
22. What is their least favorite thing about their personality?
He doesn’t quit on unredeemable people soon enough...
23. Do they get lonely easily?
You mean if David feels alone easily? With all the stuff happening in the game, David WISH to stay either alone or with like less of 4 persons in a room with him. Nothing ever happened to him when he was alone(except you know...R stunning him or petrifying him, still less problematic than dealing with tons of needy friends unable to stand up without help). After the Fifth year, being lonely easily means that Penny basically kidnapped him for some private time.
24. Do you know their MBTI type?
He is an ENTJ-T (just made the test...but it may be slightly inaccurate because David is quite emotional...but he forces himself to be more ENTJ-T possible, because in his mind, because the Vaults and stuff, people need an ENTJ-T person...and by people, he includes also himself.)
25. What is their biggest flaw?
You can annoy him or piss him off quite easily…(and based on situation...he can yell a lot...but never on Penny or close friends...but if it happens...the situation was already a shitstom since the very beginning and he lost his patience)
26. Are they aware of their flaws?
He is, as a matter of fact is too much aware, David needs to chill a little, and accept the fact that he is human and like every other human he has flaws
27. What is their biggest strength?
His strength and speed, he is quite a fighter...and after HPHM he is like having an aura of “You better don’t fuck with me, i’m scary, big and i can crush all your bones without even sweating”
28. Are they aware of their strengths?
Ask to everyone he defeated: Merula(more times than he can count), Ice Knight, Boggarts, Acromantula, Yeti, Troll, Werewolves(including Fenrir), Chimaera, a dragon, his brother, Bill, Rowan, Ismelda, Ben, Angelica, Diego, Torvus, (probably Rakepick and a big part of R)...a very long list of humans and beasts he defeated...and i’m only counting only the enemies/rivals faced by David during HPHM, then you should add Genlocks, Hurlocks, Ogres, some Qunari, probably Flemeth(for the Dragon Age AU) or many Red Raiders, wraiths, arch griffins, wyverns, vampires(for the The Witcher AU)
29. How would they describe their own personality?
“I’m a walking paradox! i wanted to be loved, but i look scary or like someone who needs to be punished because i look arrogant and offensive in anything i say...i wish my smile didn’t look like the smile that only a psychopath on killing spree would do ç_ç”
30. When frightened, will they resort to “fight” or “flight”?
Fight...because there are biggest fears than being hurt...like Penny being harmed because he fled!
31. Does this character ever put somebody else’s needs before their own? Who do they do this for? How often do they do this?
He would totally do for: Penny, Rowan, Badea, Bea(even though in Sixth Year their relationship is a mess), Any member of Badea’s family, Barnaby, his family(like his children)
During HPHM he had like hero complex but after seven years of everyone crying over his shoulders..decided to make a list(in his mind) of all the people worth to be helped...you can say that more Jam City gives us needy friends who can’t even begin to help themselves and more canon my Cursebreaker!AU is(where basically David disgusted by Hogwarts, Magic-society, 90% of his friends...quits on all of them and becomes a travelling cursebreaker with Penny)
32. What is their self esteem like?
Thanks to his needy friends, he thinks he is like a superhero but at the same time he is not doing enough because everyone expects that he has solutions for every problem in the world. So it’s like his self-esteem is quite high but at the same time because everything happening in Hogwarts he feels the need to transcend the idea of being a superhero and becoming a demigod or something...but really from his point of view, he isn’t arrogant or full of himself, because different standards, he may look like he is arrogant when actually has a low self esteem(for his standards XD)
33. What is their biggest fear? How would they react to having to face it?
David has many fears and they change but his reaction is mostly the same: fight them, finding a weak spot and survive...
34. How easily do they trust others with their secrets? With their lives?
David gives 90% of trust to anyone...the other 10% is made by his worst secrets, the one who fuels his nightmares or make him feel ashamed...and he doesn’t tell at all...
35. What is the easiest way to annoy them?
In a pacific situation:
*David is telling a true story*
Random Dude: You’re liar!
David: PROVE IT, BITCH!
In other situations: Just insult Penny...and you’ll have a war against him...
36. What is their sense of humor like? Give an example of a joke they would find humorous.
During Christmas:
David: Okay guys, these are all nice gift...but Rowan gave me the best one ever!
Rowan: Again! with this story?! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DAVID! I DIDN’T SET A BAIT SO A YETI COULD BE IN THE TRAINING GROUNDS SO YOU COULD FIGHT IT!
David: You see guys? He wasn’t even trying to make me the perfect gift! He knows me so well that his instincts knows what i like!
Rowan(at this point about to be insane and kill David): *nevrotically shaking*
Random Situation:
*a girl fell on the ground and splinters a fingernail and she is sad/pissed*
David: I understand your pain...it always takes me days to fix my nails, here let me give you my manicure kit
*David gives her, a couple of screwdrivers, an industrial file(for file her nails) and industrial spray paint(for some nail art)*
(this last one, never happened but it’s basically a joke about taking care of his arms...but one of them is metallic so...he has a personal kit for doing some manutention/repair)
Someone throws David in a pool(when he is not wearing his special swimming suit)
David: I swear to god, if i catch a rust, i will force you to take care of me until i’m healed! (the joke is that for David rust is like the flu of metals)
In general David likes also dark humor, roast humor and weird humor based on his adventures, he is not the best in making jokes and puns but time to time he tells funny jokes.
37. How easy is it for them to say “I love you”? Do they say it without meaning it?
It’s not easy, David doesn’t like to talk about emotions, he thinks that he is unable to truly explaining them, so he gives you love with actions, kisses, hugs, making food and helping you...but everytime he said “i love you” he meant and still mean it
38. What do others admire most about their personality?
Probably the fact that against all the odds, against every established rule and tradition, David either doesn’t care or he cares but he does his own thing(like Saving Jacob and Breaking the curses related to the Vaults) anyway bypassing all the authorities.
39. What does their happily ever after look like?
in Auror!AU, married, after a fulfilling and rewarding career as Auror, with a few kids with Penny, becoming the DADA’s teacher, and staying around kids(i mean we see Minerva being 80-90 years old, teaching just fine) once his own kids went for their path, maybe being a couple of teachers together. (David would totally be a cool teacher, not because he likes hogwarts so much to live there forever, but because he knows things, and he likes teach to kids)
In Cursebreakers!AU, David and Penny must deal with more dramas(mostly because the cursebreakers!AU can end in becoming the DragonAge!AU or TheWitcher!AU) and being a travelling couple of cursebreakers can be quite tiring, they never officially marry but they love each other enough(and they know each other since almost forever) so they’re like married, a travelling couple who solves problems(not only curses) like at one point they’re in Medecins Sans Frontieres for a couple of months(before the DA!AU)
40. Who do they trust most? Is that trust mutual?
During HPHM David is equal in giving trust...and from what we see in the game it’s quite mutual, David is like a superstar or a hero, if even Penny brings David in her argument with Bea...either she wanted the support of a random friend with a problematic relationship with their sibling or she wanted exactly MC/David because she trusts MC/David that much.
Physical Profile:
41. What does their laugh sound like? Do they snort when they laugh? How often do they laugh?
His laugh is quite loud, and it begins like he choked on food for a second and then it goes loud.
42. What is their favorite thing about their physical appearance?
His arms...he can hug so much people at the same time!
43. What is their least favorite thing about their physical appearance?
Keep in mind that he accept himself, he thinks he has too much scars(but at the same time is proud of the reason why he has them), like his body is a canvas and he ruined it with ugly scars, but he thinks that the ugliest scars tho, are on his face.
44. Do they have any scars? If so, what are the stories behind those scars?
One of the things i talk most about David, are his scars! He has many, on his body, his face...and mostly are from dealing with the vaults in a warrior way...instead of waving his wand, his instinct kicks in and goes full melee-fighting. Some of his scars(one on the eye and at least three on his body) are from Greyback(the side-quest) and the Chimaera(He lost a limb against that beast, and almost died because that tail that it moves like a whip but cut like a sword!)
45. How would they describe their own appearance?
“I’m scary, and my scars makes me ugly like the monster of Frankenstein”
Bonus:
Penny(noticing that David is without a shirt for some reason): Thank you God!...*serious angry face* Now i want more...
46. How easily can they express emotions? How easily can they hide emotions?
He can’t express them decently by talking, but he can’t hide them...his emotions reacts even before David has the chance to fake his mood.
47. What’s their pain tolerance like?
Extremely High...he got a limb removed by a Chimaera(he was without sense of touch until almost the end of year fourth but i meant that after that, he has to deal with the phantom pain...that it’s like a cruciatus focused at the stump)
48. Do they have any tattoos? What are the stories behind those tattoos?
He will get tattoos after Year 4(during the summer before Year 5) after a journey in Egypt. Those tattoos are alchemy circles used for transmuting things...the one on his right arm transmute the humidity in the air in Ice, or boils a guy’s internal liquids (like Isaac McDougal from the first episode of FMA: Brotherhood) while the tattoos on his ankles are just “raising wall transmutation circles”
49. Do they have any piercings?
NOPE!
50. How would you describe their style of clothing? How would they describe their style of clothing?
I would describe like “FMA has a huge influence on me”(Metallic limb/Automail, Red Coat...i’m talking about David or Edward Elric?!)
David would describe it like “I wanna wear clothes that i either use for fighting or an informal date, like going in a pub”
51. What is their height? Weight?
By the end of Year 7 he will be around 190cm(6’23’’) because his almost insane training regime and he will weight 75 kilos without his metallic prosthesis while with his prosthesis he will be almost 90 kilos.
52. What is their body type? Are they muscular, chubby, skinny, etc?
Because his training he is quite muscular...during his adulthood he will be more larger(not fat...just his shoulder will be more large)
53. What is their hair color? Eye color? Skin tone?
Red hair, amber/gold eyes, and a normal pink skin tone(like slightly more pink than the common people, like slightly tanned but you can’t guess that he is tanned because there is almost no difference from the usual skin tone of a white person)
54. What is their current hairstyle? What have been some of their past hairstyles? Which was their favorite hairstyle?
Mostly during the years he let them grow and made some ponytail or braid for the backside. Sixth Year David(also thanks to @thereluctantherosrose)
55. What is their alcohol tolerance like? What kind of drunk are they? How bad are their hangovers?
It’s unknown if he can tolerate alcohol, everywhere he goes, someone refuses to handle him alcohol for a reason or another.
56. What do they smell like? Why do they smell like this? (Is it the things they’re around or a perfume they wear?)
Probably like sweat and metal, maybe oil(because he has to oil his metallic prosthesis everytime he has a bath) he tries to cover it with some cologne but not too much because his nose(as dog animagus) is quite sensitive and he sneezes a lot.
57. How do they feel about sex? Are they a virgin?
I shouldn’t post it but….this is how his first time happens:
https://pastebin.com/Zjjyz23s (a few dialogue should be changed but it’s not my lemon/smut fic...so i don’t have power over it, in my headcanon the reason for Penny being mad is about wanting to spend more time together, to feel closer...)
58. What is their most noticeable physical attribute?
Scars on his face? I mean, it depends on what YOU notice first, but usually people who watch people in the eyes/face notice those scars(one made by Fenrir Greyback during the side-quest, the other two by the Chimaera during fourth year)
59. What does their resting face look like? Do they have RBF?
He does have a RBF...that’s why people thinks he is always mad even when he technically doesn’t have any reason to.
60. Describe the way they sleep.
When alone he sleeps on the side, with one arm under the pillow. With Penny loves the Nuzzle(check the romance ask link)
Environment:
61. Which season is their favorite season?
Late Spring/Early Autumn
62. Have they ever been betrayed? How did it affect their ability to trust others?
Rakepick betrayed him...and nothing changed...David is still give the same amount of trust to anyone...but if you disappoint him(hard task because he usually he doesn’t have expectations or standards about the people around him), it’s over.
63. What is always guaranteed to make them smile?
Penny, Animals, Jokes/Puns, Quidditch, his part-time job at the reserve for magical creatures.
64. Do they get cold easily? Do they get overheated easily?
Both...Because his automail, dealing with extreme temperatures is hell: In winter(i don’t remember how in HP’s books winter is described but in the movies it’s like freezing hell with a lot of icicles) his automail may cause frostbites and chilblains; In Summer(mostly in the south like Italy or Africa) his sweat wets the automails, not mentioning that he may get burned because the automail is metallic, and it would be like having a red-hot pan and get some burns. That aside, he can handle low temperatures better than high temperatures...
65. What’s their immune system like? Do they get sick often? How do they react to getting sick?
He doesn’t get sick very often, he is quite obsessed in being healthy, getting all the vaccines during summer(during HPHM).
66. Where do they live? Do they like it there?
Where Badea lives? There, it’s nice, pretty much decent.
67. Is their bedroom messy? What about their bathroom? Kitchen? Living room?
David is minimalist, and he is obsessed with keeping everything in other, he has is own idea of keeping everything at this place, someone may be confused but, it’s his bedroom and his bathroom(because Father is absent most of the times) and when he is a guest somewhere he uses stuff and put them where he found them.
68. How did their environment growing up affect their personality?
I mean...his biological family is composed by weird people, a father obsessed with Jacob(because he thinks he is a genius with no rivals in the universe), a mother(dead) obsessed that David will be the next Voldemort...basically the two sibling grow up together like an odd family...then Jacob goes to hogwarts, after some years he seals David’s memories about him for protecting him(and the seal slowly decayed through the years in Hogwarts)...yeah there is no reasons why David tried(and failed) to resurrect his dead mother...at home felt lonely like a stray cat in a cardbox under the worst rainstorm ever. Even being hugged by a stranger would bring like an hour of happiness.
69. How did the people in their environment growing up affect their personality?
Before Fifth year:
Anyone: David please help us with this [totally unimportant thing that may screw David’s chances to break a vault-curse]!
David: Sure ^_^!
------------------------
During Fifth Year:
Anyone: David please help us with this [very easy to solve kind of problem/sibling-fight/someone’s depression/study-group]!
David: It is important? Can’t you solve yourself? It doesn’t seem something that complicated to solve…
Anyone: If you don’t help, we’re not friend anymore!
David(annoyed): FINE!
------------------------
After Fifth Year:
Anyone: David! Please help us with this [personal problem that David shouldn’t be involved because it’s none of his business not even by making a articulate explanation so they could push David in that personal problem that he doesn’t belong to]!
David(Very Annoyed but still trying to be civil): But it’s your problem...i want to help you, i really do, but it’s none of my business, i probably make the situation way worse…
Anyone: If you don’t help me, we’re not friend anymore!
David: Finally! Bye!
70. How do they feel about animals? Do they have any pets?
He loves animals and magical creatures and during HPHM he only has a cat named Hortensia(no it’s not a reference to the four Divines of Dragon Age, that are named Hortensia XD)
just for the sake of the reference(that it was involuntary): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zoTNHwi9GTQ
71. How are they with children? Do they have any? Do they want any?
After HPHM, he will have kids, he is good with younger people/kids, like even if he is scary during HPHM, as a prefect he was quite admired for how is used to teach advanced spells like Aguamenti to younger students or help them with homework(when they ask)
72. Would they rather have stability or comfort?
It depends on situations and in what kind of situation...like on the workplace or how he choose a house? Usually if doesn’t like the people around him changes place...like when (during HPHM) he was extremely unpopular and very hated to the point that other students(aside his friends) refused to let him eat at the Main Hall’s tables and he ate basically alone on those three small stairs/steps between the tables for students and the teachers’ table.
73. Do they prefer the indoors or outdoors?
He likes to hike, having a long walk, enjoying woods and forest, he likes to travel, but the weather helps him to stay more indoors.
74. What weather is their favorite? Do they like storms?
David has a metallic left arm(like Edward Elric in FMA), before that, he loved storms, mostly the sound but now he loves them for another reasons(like snuggling with Penny under a blanket) because usually High Humidity = Deep Pain on his stump(he can resist, but still is quite painful), in general he still loves the sounds of storms but the phantom pain makes difficult to enjoy storms. His favorite weather is the classic Spring/Autumn weather: warm enough to only need a t-shirt but cold enough to need pants and cotton socks.
75. If given a blank piece of paper, a pencil, and nothing to do, what would happen?
When he is bored: drawing something(like puffskins or nifflers) or make a paper plane and watch it flying
When he has homework: Try to put down some lines before actually doing the homework…
76. How organized are they?
Enough to not losing his own things.
77. What is their most prized possession?
His collection of knives? His coat? His automail(it’s made of titanium and gold)?Penny’s love?
78. Who do they consider to be their best friend?
Rowan, Penny, every magical creature.
79. What is their economic situation?
During HPHM? medium, he is not poor because Minerva pays for his education at Hogwarts, and he has a part-time job in the Reserve for Magical Creatures...so for a student he would be quite rich for an underage student in a magic school...
80. Are they a morning person or a night owl?
Morning person, but because of his nightmares, is slightly insomniac
Miscellaneous:
81. Are they bothered by the sight of blood?
Only when it’s on his clothes...cleaning the blood off the clothes is a pain in the ass...
82. What is their handwriting like?
Don’t ask for his notes...ask for explain them to you...it’s easier.
83. Can they swim? How well? Do they like to swim?
He loves every sport related to water, surfing, swimming, beach volley. Sadly enough because his automail...after Year 4 he can’t play much...unless enjoying the sea water on your knees is a sport.
84. Which deadly sin do they represent best?
Probably Wrath...he has a lot of rage under his skin but for the sake of what he cares most, he must repress it, he is not evil but with everything he went through he has a lot of rage to release, the problem is that in the HP-society, where you release all that rage?...for a reason or another, i can’t find a healthy solution for David...if he quits on society and friends, he will live as an hermit somewhere like he does his grandfather(Grampa doesn’t have rage, he simply dislike people so he lives not far from hogsmeade even though he is a muggle); If he joins a job like the Aurors he will be like Jean Paul Valley(one of the many guys who wore Batman’s costume, famous for being extremely violent and quite cruel with criminals or he will be like King Bradley but with a very small kill count(From FMA) doing his job by any means necessary; If he joins the Curse Breakers he will be quite like Geralt of Rivia, it’s not about being evil or cruel just accepting the fact that killing some bad people is necessary. If he joins the Magi-Zoologists he will be “happy” but he will sacrifice a lot of social activities with other humans, preferring beasts and animals...the main point is: after all he dealt in Hogwarts, Wrath defines David more than i want to admit...and even for having some happiness, either stays alone or has someone next to him(like Penny) who truly understand that is Wrath is there not because he was born like this but as consequence of many events happening without giving him time to breath(/having time to stabilize his mental health).
85. Do they believe in ghosts?
Hogwarts is full of ghosts.
86. How do they celebrate holidays? How do they celebrate birthdays?
He celebrates holidays, but is not fond of them, for him are just a poor excuse to be lazy or having fun...he prefers real reason to celebrate...like birthdays or someone graduates, or Gryffindor wins the Quidditch Cup!
David likes to celebrate the birthday of his friends by baking something for them and making some useful gifts, like knives(so in case magic doesn’t work they can stab their problem XD), or books with unique spells or potions’ recipes.
87. What is something they regret?
- Tried to resurrect his mother
- Everything nice he did to an ungrateful Merula (because yeah, he did something nice to her, then after noticing the results he quit on her)
- Helped so much his friends to the point that now they’re addicted to David’s help
- The pranks he did for Peeves(one of his worst moments in Hogwarts)...
88. Do they have an accent?
He has one...but it’s like a mixed accent from every accent the people around him have with a little bit of german.
89. What is their D&D alignment?
Chaotic Good
90. Are they right or left handed?
I’m still deciding...for now he is right handed but he loses his left arm(i didn’t want to put the drama or re-learning how to write and stuff if he would lose his right arm)
91. If they were a tweet, what tweet would they be?
I don’t follow twitter or care about so...i don’t know.
92. Describe them as a John Mulaney gif.
93. What’s the most iconic line of dialogue they’ve ever said?
as a reference to something?
David right after the final fight with R: “There is only one reason why you lost R...There’s just one simple answer....You really pissed me off.”

i’m gonna liveblog my rewatch of 2.08 because i can
it’s stupid long so here’s the cut
just to give you an idea of how fast this switch flipped for me at the start of this episode when uther is like “u will find no one who embodies nobleness better than my son arthur” i went “PFFFFFT” & had a good chortle
i have a lot to say about this duel challenge sequence. 1. why are strangers always coming in and tossing their glove on the floor. everyone in that room is armed. just take them out! 2. arthur picks up the glove first this time, unlike 1.03. guess he can learn after all 3. he does it BEFORE SEEING HER FACE god classic he’s so fucking stupid
everyone getting their panties in a twist over having to fight a WOMAN when in reality she goes on to kick his ass is like...both tiresome & hilarious
i used to really be on the fence about the Vibe between merlin & arthur because while they seemed quite happy to die for one another from the get-go most of the time arthur is just being MEAN and merlin isn’t as mean back and it’s like :/ ok i don’t get what everyone else is so heart-eyes over. but in 2.08 they do a lot of confiding in one another and just general talking about plot-stuff where arthur’s insults are...not absent, but kept to a minimum, and idk it’s nice! it’s nice. less like arthur is a massive bully and more like they’re Companions. i’m not hopeful about it lasting bc this show doesn’t know the meaning of the words “consist continuity” but it was reeeeeaally good here
arthur’s face when he lost to a G I R L and uther just walked out with no comment. even back when i still hated him i was like “ouch”
that being said it was a welcome change of pace to see merlin giving ARTHUR shit for once. finally
upon morgause and morgana’s first meeting when morgause says “i hope you will remember me fondly” i went “WOW THAT’S GAY” because i didn’t KNOW and cathy told me later she had to put her head in her hands for five whole minutes. don’t shoot me i’m just the messenger they’re the ones who wrote it that way
my favorite thing about morgause is that i couldn’t immediately figure her out. i’m in the habit of throwing out guesses about future plot points for fun, because i’m a writer and that’s how i deconstruct things, and since this show was kind of meant to be kid-friendly i’m usually right. but as far as morgause went...i didn’t have a clue. i had NO IDEA this whole ep would be like this
i’ve said this before (not on this blog tho) but arthur is like...really eager to die. i keep joking that he has a death wish but upon further reflection i don’t think he’s actively seeking to end his life as much as he would be relieved to die for something noble like honor or whatever because then he would have...done it right, if that makes any sense, and wouldn’t have to worry about screwing it up anymore. he doesn’t want to die but he craves a good death. to prove to his dad and himself that he’s made of the right stuff?? i’m not being very clear. this concept requires more thought
it’s REALLY a lot for me that uther would rather throw arthur in his own chambers than have him find out about ygraine. yyyyikes
merlin sneaking in that rope was so cute. he finally got the group’s communal braincell for a few minutes
on the other hand after the troll episodes i am SO tired of dung being played for laughs. i really suffered
also man i’m so glad morgana finally got some sleep it’s what she deserves
this Dead Parent talk really mcmurdered me. both merlin and arthur lost a parent when they were very young & they now cannot remember said parent and we HAVE THAT IN COMMON so every single word they said was like an arrow straight to my heart!!!!!!! like as good as the ending to this episode was (and OH it was good OHHHHH it was GOOD) i think this right here is what truly softened me up towards arthur. this is relatability, this is emotional vulnerability, this is a genuine human connection made between EQUALS and frankly it’s exactly what i’ve been wanting from these guys for a season and a half. their willingness to die for each other is good stuff to be sure but it’s EMPTY without some meat to back it up & we’re finally getting what we deserve
“i’d do anything for even the vaguest memory” like they didn’t have to go that hard & read me for filth like that but they did. they did. arthur. babe. my guy.
almost every time someone comes in to speak with uther he’s eating and he has like an entire mini-banquet in front of him even though he’s all by himself. like, an entire plate of grapes, a whole-ass chicken, an intact loaf of bread, a bowl FILLED with whole uncut apples...wtf??
“what would YOU know about magic, merlin?” “nothing ;)” i did have a good chortle truly
i’ve already made my points about arthur and a good death but MAN he was hasty to put his head on that chopping block for no good fucking reason at all. holy shit. him casually doing that swing-thing he does with his sword to the axe ahead of time really adds a lot to this entire thing and also aged me ten years
when arthur was like “what if my father’s attitude towards magic is wrong” and “surely not everyone who practices magic can be evil” i gasped so fucking loud. so fucking loud
and the worst part is you can practically feel merlin’s heartbeat pick up. just LOOK at his “wtf am i hearing is this for real could my dreams actually come true” face. but at the same time, he’s got to be the one with a healthy suspicion here because arthur is in over his head. so he STILL can’t trust it. and then naturally it goes to hell so quickly that the chance for merlin to confide in arthur is lost. i can’t believe this took 4 irl years and five seasons. watching this live must have been like TORTURE. i’m practically bingeing it and i’m still suffering deeply
it’s very odd to me that arthur specifically said his mother died before he opened his eyes but the first thing ygraine says to him is that she remembers him staring up at her. to me that’s an obvious clue that she’s a fake, and the cutaway during that line to merlin’s face tells me he had the same suspicion (and that he’s kind of horrified by it)
ARTHUR FEELS SO GUILTY FOR HER DYING AND I’M ALSO DYING AND SLDFKMGHLSKDFJH
i know for a fact that ygraine’s telling of these events is slightly altered from the truth too...there’s no way that uther would have been so overcome with grief that he went on to commit genocide if he knew beforehand that his wife would die and was willing to sacrifice her
on the other hand, there’s also a cutaway to morgause’s face during this speech in which she looks surprised or confused at what ygraine says, which doesn’t add up if she was pulling these strings, so...What Is The Truth
not to be like this but merlin bearing witness to this whole series of events is like...there’s some things that once you go through them with somebody things between you change and there’s a new intimacy there...i don’t expect much from a show that likes to return to the status quo but in my heart it’s how i feel
OH BOY HERE WE GO. arthur arrives in camelot and pulls his sword out as soon as he leaves his horse leaving a visibly spooked merlin behind him this is the STUFF
“arthur was born of magic” is really a hell of a line because even though i already knew this backstory i hadn’t stopped to consider it like that...no, magic is not a crucial part of arthur’s identity and how he views himself the way it is for merlin and morgana, but it’s still a part of his history and what made him who he is, that made him alive and different from other people. his hatred and fear of it becomes so much more tragic in that light. i think also there was such a clear line drown before between people who are magic and people who are not and for me, mentally, arthur kind of...swapped sides, or is at least straddling the border
merlin’s absolute FURY at uther’s hypocrisy is like...........fucking. another thing i wanted to see for a season and a half. imo there’s not nearly enough meat to the fact that merlin is magic and ultimately serves uther who is trying to decimate him and his kind - has actually SAVED UTHER'S LIFE on MULTIPLE occasions. this is the first time this show actually went “hey uther is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of people and that’s really not at all ok” and i am SO into it. like, no, he’s not misguided. he’s not “just grieving.” he’s a murderer. he’s responsible for genocide.
the final 9 minutes of this episode feature arthur pendragon being absolutely FURIOUS. he’s LIVID. he’s PISSED. and i love it more than anything else this show has done so far
i genuinely, truly believed he didn’t have this in him. never in my WILDEST DREAMS could i have imagined arthur doing this. i had written it off as the stuff of fanfics. but holy shit my man snapped
HE👏DID👏THAT👏
reasons i did not see this coming at all even a little: 1. i figured there was no way arthur would get over his anti-magic thing until near the end (i know it must come back later, but STILL) 2. i did not believe for one second he could ever seriously stand up to his father for more than a few minutes at a time 3. most of what’s making arthur so goddamn pissed is that he thinks his dad killed his mom on purpose but he’s also showing a fair amount of horror at the fact that uther hunted down and killed everyone even remotely associated with sorcery like animals. do you know what that is? does anybody else understand the enormity of this? HE IS SHOWING EMPATHY. i DID NOT believe he was capable of it.
i do feel a way about how uther started this scene from a place of cool confidence - he was handing out orders, “leave us and no one comes in,” manipulating the situation, “she was lying to you, magic users are trying to destroy us,” and finally trying to close the door on the topic and reassert control, “i am your kind and your father and you will SHOW ME SOME RESPECT” - and arthur was not only having none of it (the way his eyes narrowed as uther’s casual “she was lying”...oh boy) he TURNED THE TABLES and had uther ON THE DEFENSIVE. the number of times we’ve seen uther shut other people down and get his way because he’s king and everyone is afraid of him and this time uther was the one who afraid LITERALLY for his life. HOW’S THAT TASTE BITCH god it was SO satisfying. like, there’s one shot where arthur is walking slowly towards him after all his verbal tactics have failed to de-escalate the situation and he’s in the backround with his eyes so fucking wide and he looks TERRIFIED. i LOVE IT
“you are my son. you would not strike an unarmed man.” “i no longer consider myself your son” AND HE STRIKES HIM
HE👏
DID👏
THAT👏
when i say that i LITERALLY screamed i am not at all exaggerating or using hyperbole. cathy asked twice if i needed to pause & collect myself. i could not have paused if my life depended on it
i’m really on the fence about merlin stopping arthur. on the one hand, arthur has suffered enough and doesn’t need to suffer more by having to carry the guilt or dadmurder. under the other, uther is a monster and needs to die, and the entire world would be better off without him
like...arthur’s face when he says “you have caused so much suffering and pain”...he really finally got it. for one beautiful brilliant moment he understood
i am NOT on the fence about merlin lying to arthur. that was the wrong way to do it. arthur 6000% deserves to know the truth and that’s only gonna come back and bite them later i’m sure (unless it never comes back at all in which case i’ll be pissed)
i’m not sure that arthur would have backed off if they had told the truth and said “uther didn’t realize your mom was gonna die so really that part wasn’t his fault”...he was really mad! but he might’ve. lying was not the way to go. i’m so angry at literally everyone in that scene for allowing arthur to walk away believing he was wrong. he was so full of conviction and he was about to do a really good thing - not good for him personally, but good for the world - and everyone he trusts lied to his face in order to maintain the status quo and not have to deal with anything ugly. i HATE it. i’m team arthur now. i’m in the arthur defense squad. all those dumb liars aren’t good enough to be his friends!!!!!!
like, even his dad’s words were sooo carefully chosen to avoid lying but also avoid telling the whole truth. even in that moment when arthur was laying it all bare and they could have made some sort of progress as character and as people. we had to go BACK TO THE STATUS QUO
Once Again Arthurs Heart Is Hardened To Magic i hate it thanks
honestly look uther telling arthur that he’s a trusted ally in the fight against magic should make him feel a lot more distressed than what we got. i mean i’m sure he’s glad his cover is safe but he should realize that if uther approves he’s doing something wrong
furthermore, uther hasn’t changed a bit. he says he came to thank merlin and that merlin is a loyal servant and trusted ally, but then threatens his life before he leaves. honestly we should have just let arthur stab him
i do appreciate them making a point of mentioning that merlin was tempted to let uther die and that it would have been better for him if uther HAD died and he only did what he did to protect arthur but like...there were ways to do that that didn’t involve lying i think. this is an optimistic show most of the time. it wouldn’t have messed with my suspension of disbelief if arthur had dropped the sword knowing the real whole truth! but no, The Status Quo
i don’t know if i will still love arthur so much in the coming episodes.................we’ll see. i’m kind of nervous because i don’t know how they’re ever going to top this. i think we peaked right here and it’ll never be this good for me again
#personal#merlin blogging#this is.............literally so long sorry#no one is obligated to read it.#i doubt anyone would get to the end anyway#but i just needed to talk about all 1000000 of my feelings#tldr is im v proud of arthur and very mad at everyone else#which makes ME an annoying arthur stan now. oops!#liz's meta#liz's merlin stuff#not really but this post deserves a spot in the hall of fame#liz makes stuff
