Review of "Hamlet of Volage," Adventure Module V1 from BRW Games for Adventures Dark and Deep.
I love printed gaming materials. I adore published modules that have a distinct old-school look. If I see such modules being offered, I generally purchase them, for my own collection and to support small publishers. They usually don't cost too much.
Modules with witches, fae, conspiracies and/or cults are another selling point for me.
Case in point: I purchased each of the V series modules by BRW games before they were published in print, so I got each as a PDF with the printed book to be sent later when completed. The stories revolve around different covens of witches, existing in secret(naturally) and warring among themselves.
Take the incredibly small hamlet of Volage. At least one coven exists here, most of them living normal, public lives, while members of other covens either live within, or visit frequently, to keep tabs, act as spies and everything you'd expect of such a scenario.
As I'm running this module for a system that we're play testing for publication by Penny Thought Exchange, and this happens to be an anthro based system based loosely on our Steal This Game! public domain engine, I ran the module as "The Hamlet of Vole Lodge: The Haunting of Pell House." None of these kinds of changes affected the module's play too much. Since characters are animal based, they do have access to abilities that run of the mill PCs in other games might not, but we try to balance these abilities as a part of character creation. Also, the NPCs, including the baddies, get these also, so it levels out. Otherwise, it's largely cosmetic, as NPCs are assigned an animal type and fitting description.
Because the module has so many NPCs and information on the town, I printed these out and affixed them to standard paper sized cardboard for quick reference. It also made it easier to track my own additions, such as what animal types the various NPCs are.
All that said to prepare for the review proper, I have to give one last bit of insight. I was running for a very small group, and certain among them are known to get frustrated quickly if leads and clues aren't given to them easily or frequently enough. Thus, I'm not sure in certain places where the problem may lay with the module or with the sensibilities of certain individuals, though in at least one case the problem is certainly the module's, as I will describe as we continue.
Within a day or so in the hamlet, there was already grumbling that nothing was turning up of any real interest. Most of the supernatural occurences, as the PCs felt, were rather mundane, unprovable, or non sequitur to their investigations. Blankets getting bedbugs and such seemed normal enough. Sheep being attacked by wolves and then vanishing is a bit odd, but not enough to jump to suspicions of witchcraft, and seemingly not enough to investigate at any rate. The module itself didn't suggest or describe any methods of doing so or anything learned if PCs did, but it wasn't relevant since they were disinterested in doing so. Every cat being found dead was more mystifying but another case of "what are we supposed to do about it?" People getting sick, people falling off ladders, all seemed like a typical string of unfortunate but not distinctly magical occurances.
They decided to spend the night in the cemetery, where only one random event took place, a weird fog or mist which I tried to play up as much as I could. When all was said and done, however, it was more of the same: "Weird, but nothing we can learn anything from and seemingly unrelated."
The group decided that after another day or so if they didn't come across something of more interest they were going to bail. I still had two more modules and they were ready to quit before getting more than a day into the first. I ended up throwing in a clue not in the module to keep them in, though I regretted throwing bones like that simply because the PCs became disinterested. Still, I really wanted to continue the module, so I did so. To some degree, two of them, but the details of those aren't very important.
They decided to keep an eye on some of the young ones of the hamlet who had been rumored to run off into the woods some nights, and follow them.
Around this time, I decided to look into the next module. It shouldn't be necessary. Each were published at different times, and are supposed to be playable independently. Yet the second module gives details of great importance: the way the Pell family is butchered. V1 simply says they were killed violently. The second reveals that the attack has the hallmarks of an animal attack, yet they got into the house at night, somehow, and left without being seen. Now that gives some serious indication of some supernatural going's on. Too bad V1 decided we didn't need to know!
After telling the players about this new info, they became much more convinced of supernatural tomfoolery, but still felt about the same as they did - follow the young ones next time they run off, if that doesn't lead to anything, we leave.
I don't believe the module tells you what night the young witches go to their esbat, but an NPC suggested the night of the new moon, so the PCs kept special notice that night. One of the bones I threw in to keep the adventure going.
In the end, they got noticed while trailing the girls, but the witches pretended not to notice. They completed their esbat, getting new familiars and other boons before revealing their awareness of the PCs.
The battle didn't last long. The PCs got destroyed. However, it was a small group, and my suggestions of getting retainers and mercenaries to boost their numbers fell on deaf ears. I do not fault the module for their loss whatsoever.
At the moment, I'm running my own revision of an old adventure I wrote(I shared a little taster of it a bit ago), but afterwards, I hope to jump to V2 and see how that one goes. If it works out well, on to V3, or perhaps my sequel idea to the module I'm rewriting now, and then V3. If V2 goes poorly, I suspect I will abandon the series and leave them to look pretty on my shelf.
If you like OSR adventure modules, despite my less than stellar success, you can't go too wrong for a $4 PDF. https://preview.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/373537/Adventure-Module-V1--The-Hamlet-of-Volage
Addendum: While looking for a quick cover image to put at the beginning of the review, I came across tenfootpole's review. I often agree, sometimes strongly disagree, but generally find their reviews entertaining either way. Looking to see if they hailed it as a masterpiece and realize I'm a big dummy, oh boy did they not find it impressive. Strong language warning for those sensitive to that kinda thing. Their agreement does not make me right, but I'm gratified that at least it wasn't just me who was kind of bewildered by a lot of the adventure.

I struggled through the other four episodes, scrolling now and then. I mostly wanted to see scenes with Geralt. And no, I did not watch on Netflix.
General impressions:
- it's boring
- throwing unrelated bits of scenes from various partss of The Witcher does not make the season closer to the books. Yeah, I do recognise these scenes, but some of them are simply meaningless to the main plot, like Vespula or Ciri on the market with Fabio.
- the series still keeps the subtlety of a brick thrown right into your face. Such was the case in season one with scenes like Yennefer having her insides out to become pretty. Such is the case with season three with characters talking about everything right into their faces, like Tissaia commenting on how Yennefer finally managed to become a mother. And I wonder what is the reason behind it - is it the fact that scriptwriters cannot deliver things on screen so they need to tell them? Or is it treating the viewers like complete idiots. Or - they know they don't deliver on screen so they need to tell the viewers everything. Overall, this gives a very poor impression on the quality of writing.
- plot holes and characters acting stupid because scriptwriters apparently couldn't do better. Like the whole thing in episode one, with using Ciri as bait and setting a trap on Rience - and letting him escape. Just thinking about this scene, you can come up with a dozen scenarios in which Rience escapes while Geralt is rescuing someone or busy fighting or idk, just not dying himself because whatever. But no, Geralt actually jumps blindly into a random portal (which is stupid as hell), beats Rience and leaves him. It would have taken him like three more seconds to slit Rience'a throat or just drag him back with him to Sherrawed. But no, the plot needs Rience alive and if that is the best the writers can deliver... Or Geralt and Ciri on the boat, literally waiting for a monster to hunt but when it does appear, they have to run across the while damn boat to get their swords. It makes characters behave like idiots. Not so good.
- The series still requires not the suspension of disbelief, but suspension of brain. Now yeah, I'm sorry, I'm not average American viewer for whom this series is primarily done, but gosh, I can't turn off thinking.
- random things being discussed by characters sharing bed or other weird situations bordering on intimate. Yeah. Awesome.
- politics being dropped all over when they mean so little, since there was no political exposition earlier. Looks like they are trying to mimic Game of Thrones and failing.
Plus sides:
- Geralt, obviously. I'm basically ignoring the rest to see some good scenes with him and of course Henry Cavill is delivering. I like his fights so far, also how gentle he goes with that Ciri imposter girl. That is kept in character with the books and it is painful to think how good this series could have been if other characters (and the relations between them) had not been butchered.
- Geralt's relation with Ciri. Despite my issues with Ciri, the way Geralt acts towards her is believable.
- Yarpen. I really like this actor and the way he delivers his character.
- A dwarven lady with a beard. You get a plus for that, Netflix, doing one tiny detail better than Amazon with the rings of power crap.
- Tissaia. The actress is perfect for the role and she plays it well. She acts her actual age while still looking beautiful with her angular face and perfect hairdo. I'm ignoring whatever the relation she has with Vilgefortz (weird choice, considering how distrustful she was towards him in the books, but whatever. I don't care enough about her to be bothered by such change)
Now about the rest.
- Jaskier. I have no idea what's going on with this character, but I see no Dandelion. And I'm not talking about the ugly looks or his romance or whatever it is with Radovid. Ignoring that, ok? My problem with Jaskier's creation is with the way he behaves. In the first season, his primary role was to be a comic relief. He was the Donkey from Shreck, funny at best, annoying at worst. But at least he had this boyish look and charm, though the series failed to deliver his deep friendship with Geralt.
Right now? The cocky, mouthy, outspoken Jaskier was turned into some meek creature who acts pathetic. I really don't understand. He is the bard, he can come up with a cheeky retort on spot, probably in rhymes. He knows how to sweep the crowd, how to talk his way out, how to act on a court. In here? He acts pitiful, he is portrayed as having very low confidence and self assurance, the exact opposite to the original character. He was stumbling over his words when Vespula threw him out or when Valdo Marc makes an appearance. He complained and complained about having to help Geralt in setting the trap for Rience. Are we still talking about the same guy who risked his life to get to Brokilon to the driads, once he learned Geralt was there, badly wounded and in need of a friend? Who decided, no questions asked, to join Geralt in his seemingly impossible quest? Sorry. Nope. He's back to his comic relief role when paired with Ciri.
- Yennefer. After the butchering in season two, I'm not surprised. Creating her as meek and apologetic and SWEET of all things they could come up with? Cold, sophisticated, elegant and seemingly having no heart book Yennefer of Vengerberg turned to this? Sadly pining and writing letters, or trying to win Geralt over with some cute joking? Talking openly about her insecurities about coming back to Aretuza? Crying? Being called sweet by the banker. Acting like a bit lost, sweet girl and not a 90 year old woman. The series is trying hard to turn whatever they screwed in season two into mother/daughter relation and it's not working. Well, maybe it is if you watch a soap opera while washing the dishes.
The peculant teenager we saw in season one, then butchered by the script in season two, now turned into a nice, sweet, laughing and smiling girl. Yes, girl, because with the actress's young and yes, sweet look, that is the general impression I get. The actress is delivering well the role she got, but I'm sorry. That is not Yennefer. She only has her name and eyes, because they couldn't even do right such basic things like curls or trademark black&white look, choosing instead cheap store outfits. Gosh, I managed to curl more a $15 wig from China. Surely Netflix has better budget for costumes?
- the whole thing with Ciri bullshitting about uniting the races and becoming a queen. What. The. Hell. Is. That.
- the sorceresses. I'm supposed to recognise on spot that the lady on the screen is a sorceress. Tissaia delivers well and Yennefer actress looks pretty, like a sorceress. But the rest? Not really. If I was asked to show one thing that made Keira in episode 2 different than, say, Anika or Vespula, I wouldn't be able to point it. They just blend in. Where are the stunning, beautiful ladies? Yes, I know, Netflix has points to check out on their list, even if it's at the cost of inconsistency with their own creation. They did show in season one how the imperfect girls like Yennefer changed their looks to become beautiful, yet now they change that. Again, I know, there was a box to tick. It's not like canon has strong and prominent fat characters, right? How about Dijkstra or Nenneke? Just saying.
- the costumes? Geralt looks good in black leather, I like it better than the armour he previously had. Still has really awful lenses in close shots, sadly. Ciri looked alright in her slightly rough outfit. But for God's sake, these printed fabrics? Store shirts? Seriously? There are woven, embroidered or jacquard fabrics easily available and they would look way more genuine. Less modern.
- I enjoyed hunting for Percival bits in the soundtrack.
- Ciri imposter looks more like Ciri than Ciri. Definitely younger.
- the fifth episode was a freaking struggle. I thought going over and over the same clips as the plot unfolds would be good, but gosh that was tedious. I understand the idea behind it, pretty much like in crime movies, when the detective unfolds the events and we get to watch the same glimpse but with additional pieces. It's just - god, the dance scene was cringy the first time and having to rewatch it twice or so was just awful (and not less cringy).

Hi! It's 🐸 Frog anon! I was scrolling through and decided to come say hi and hope you're having a lovely week!
I read your post about yourself and may I just say YOU SIR HAVE IMPECCABLE TASTE!!! I adore sick fics too and hurt/comfort!!!!
I kinda wanted to ask your opinion on a random thing about that lol if you don't mind (only if you're comfortable! No pressure!) I don't know why but sick fics for me feel even more impactful when the character looking after the reader is like a doctor/healer/biologist kind of character! Like that makes me blush a lot XD
Like the whole "you're a well known and well liked doctor/healer character and you're choosing to look after my dumb cold instead of doing something like brain surgery???" AHHHHHH IT GETS ME EVERY TIME!!! and like when they use stuff like "eat that warm soup doctor's orders!"
"Stay in bed"
"Hold still, I'm taking your temperature"
AHHHHHHHHHHH
Anyways I'd love to hear about what makes sick fics impactful for you!
Just wanted to ask your opinion if you feel like talking about it!!!
Also blue is the best color! :)
Anyways! Sorry for bothering you just wanted to come by and chat for a bit! BUT YOU SIR ARE AN AMAZING PERSON WITH IMPECCABLE TASTE AND I WANTED YOU TO KNOW IT!!!!
OMG HOWDY!! Welcome back :D
I am completely cool with talking about why I enjoy sick fics so much, I love to talk about fic and the way different tags feel different ways and all that
For me, sick fics hit best when the reader is the kind of person who wouldn't ever normally ask for help. So you've got sick reader, who is completely out of commission, who always wants to do things completely on their own terms, and they're stuck accepting help because they're too sick to do things like make their own food on their own.
Especially when the character that's taking care of reader doesn't ask if reader needs help first, they don't even offer, they just kind of show up??? Top Notch right there.
I think the main reason that specific scenario hits hardest for me is because I don't like asking for help, so someone who just takes care of me without asking is the gd dream. Especially when the character is normally the type to not care about anyone, so on top of them taking care of reader it's also the "mean to everyone but you" trope like that's just so YUMMY it kills me every time
Also it's totally cool to drop questions like that anytime!! I really like the idea of being friends with the people who read my stuff,,, Also I will add that you ALSO have impeccable taste, because any kind of sick fic is top tier and the idea of the character taking care of reader being a doctor or something similar is freaking Adorable
(I will add here, though it is unrelated, that I am in fact working on requests today I just got sidetracked watching videos on youtube so the chapter that I post will probably be up pretty close to when I go to bed)

Sonic actually managing to tug Rung along on the child leash despite the ridiculous size difference is a hilarious image!
The ONLY way to get kid Sonic to chill out is to pick him up for cuddles
Someone hurts Rung and Team Sonic is like "Ah, so you have chosen. . .death!"
Some random Decepticon: AAAAAH!! WHY ARE THESE TINY CREATURES SO STRONG!!!
Rung:Well, I uh, tried to warn you.
(putting the rest under a read more cause this post is getting a smidge long)
I can't stop thinking of dumb responses Rung could use when confronted by Optimus about missing meetings(in Personaverse)
Optimus: Are you alright?
Rung, holding the most concentrated Energon he can get without it being high grade, looks like he hasn't recharged in a month: My sparkling decided to fight oppression with magic powers.
Optimus: I . . . see?
Those little trucks are PERFECT for Rung!
I can just imagine Ren falling asleep during long drives
I also can't stop thinking about how that would have started. Like, Rung finds this tiny human and is like "I guess I'm a dad now???" And has to figure out how to convincingly 'play' human so this tiny, quiet kid can have a good life
And he worries that maybe he didn't do a good enough job because Ren never really made friends or connected easily with his peers
The sheer relief he feels when, after the worst period so far in their lives, Ren goes silent while telling him what happened that day and quietly says ". . .I made a friend."
On a completely unrelated(sarcasm) note, Rung ADORES Ryuji, he thinks he's great and is totally absolutely completely unbiased in that opinion why would u say this he has no idea what ur talking about
He also basically adopts the rest of the phantom thieves too
Rung: *tearing up* I have so many beautiful children
Ann: Um. . .you know I have a dad right?
Ren, typing on his phone: Just accept it
Futaba, upside down in her chair: Yeah, I think having a mech dad is pretty cool
Yusuke, doing a pose(as usual): Hmm. . .coffee dad and mech dad. . .
Yusuke: It has a certain ring to it, doesn't it?
Sojiro: Wait what was that first one?
Rung adopts the Phantom Thieves as his kids, the Phantom Thieves adopt Sojiro as dad 2 (Rung is dad 2 for Futaba, obviously)
It just occurred to me that both Rung and Sojiro have older dad/grandpa energy
Sojiro's the grumpy grandpa who makes amazing food, always makes sure you've eaten before u go anywhere, and isn't afraid to call u an idiot if that's what you need/you're doing something dangerous
Rung is the grandpa who always has candy and a kind word on hand, is affectionate and always supportive, but IS a bit of a pushover sometimes, he's more likely to go "well, I don't think that's...quite the best idea" than outright tell u not to do something
I've been trying to think of scenarios for Jak, I figure he would NOT take kindly to being dadded if he notices(does he need it? Yeah probably. But he's not happy about it. Especially if it's after Jak 3)
Rung is nice to Jak in an extremely straightforward way, that Jak only recognizes coming from Daxter(and maybe his uncle when he was a kid) and Jak is like *squints* "Suspicious."
Daxter figures out what's going on before Jak does and is like
Daxter: Jak I think he just likes you.
Jak: *scoffs* Dax, you're the only one who actually likes me
Daxter, squinting: *thinks about how every adult over a certain age basically subtly adopted him once they got to know him* Yeah u keep tellin yourself that babe.
Jak is not subtle, has never been subtle, and does not NOTICE subtlety, he wears his heart on his sleeve and expects everyone else to be the same (he's learned better now, mostly, but it still crops up in situations like this)
Also once Jak does accept that he sees Rung as a father figure (and it takes awhile, because BOTH of the people he's had for fathers[his 'uncle' in Sandover and Damas] died and he's starting to think he's cursed) it goes the same way as team Sonic. This tiny little creature beating the crap outta some random Decepticon (or any other hostile Cybertronian) for threatening his dad
Technically the Phantom Thieves would ALSO throw hands for their dad, but unless they're in the Metaverse they are just normal humans with normal human strength, though guns are a funny alternative (especially since they're illegal in Japan)
Rung: What do you have?
Futaba: A GUN! •̀▽•́ *Runs toward Decepticon*
Rung: NO!
Ren: WHY DOES SHE HAVE A GUN???
Also something something Rung building little ship models with his kid(s) is another cute idea
Today I discovered IDW Transformers Rung, a psychiatrist whose much more than he seems. He's too dad shaped to not drop into sudden parenthood. Look at him! You can't tell me this man wouldn't make such a delightful dorky father figure.
I already got a few characters in mind to drop him on. First is definitely going to be Jak from the Jak and Daxter series. Whether it be pre Jak 2/3 or Post 3 is in the air. I'm leaning to Jak, Daxter and the Kid being displaced with Rung in Transformers Prime. That or Earthspark. Most likely Prime because of comparisons between Eco and Energon.
Plus Jak seriously needs therapy alongside a hug. He's got a case of 'chosen hero' syndrome and self worth issues that needs to be handled.
Next is Sonic the Hedgehog specifically the Movie variant. Both will be displaced in either G1, Cybertron or Animated. I would say Prime just for Super Sonic vs Unicron but nah. Earthspark will be used in a different project with this iteration.
Rung ends up being a dad to a 3-5 year old Sonic, as i can't resist the image of him trying to raise a child that can fit in human sized pockets. Freshly traumatized hedgehog gets hugs alongside therapy. Also the hilarity that between the giant robot and his super fast child, it's Sonic someone has worry about as he will throw hands.
Last one for now is Ren Amamiya/Joker from Persona 5. Universe wise, Prime, canon divergent Bayverse or Knightverse be perfect for the two. Mainly cause Persona is an M rated series that are spurred from the design of particular Personas such as Mara to murder being a more uncommon occurrence. *Persona 4 was literally a murder mystery.*
Rung met and raised Ren when he was five years old. The bot would be unable to stop the unfair trial but definitely won't leave his kid alone in a different city. Plus Rung getting dragged into the Phantom Thieves' shenanigans by Ren. Kid already has a codename made for his pops: Guide.
What do you guys think? Should Rung be hit with the dad hammer?
#i had to add coffee dad sry he lives very close to my heart#also the image of Rung and Sojiro desperately trying to co parent these like 7 magical teenagers is extremely funny#Jak has learned how to sus out negative cues. but not positive ones#technically Jak ''knows'' Sig likes him#but it hasnt quite clicked emotionally#long post#dad rung#he is a much better dad than therapist#(since. u know. hes canonically not the best therapist. i don't think hes supposed to be a BAD one. just mediocre.#and much better than mediocre is great)#how big even is Rung?#i can never get a sense for the scale of Mtmte characters#since there arent really any humans#hes not a minibot. which means hes probably a good bit bigger than a human#but trying to imagine that kinda breaks my brain#his design looks like it should be human sized#but is not#id look at the holoforms#but those aren't always to scale either#since they can get bigger and smaller#his heights probly on the wiki#i should look it up#Ann doesnt MIND having Rung as another dad#she's just worried he thought she was an orphan or something#i didnt want to write about scenarios during Jak 2 because timeline shenanigans would mean theyd have to be separated and thats sad

Hi so I was wondering what the line is between asking your opinion on something and making a request. Sometimes I want to see your thoughts on stuff but I don’t want you to think I’m requesting anything from you 🥺 I want to be as polite as I can since I know how frustrating it can be with people constantly requesting things. Hope you’re doing well!
OKAY SO I've been wanting to post about this exact for a while but I didn't know how to word it, thank you for asking! I appreciate it.
In general, asking something related to a fic I've written or a concept I've written is fine. Like. "In this fic, this happened, why did character do X or could you elaborate on Y from the fic?" or if I've been posting about characters liking perfumes/scents recently, "Hey, what kind of scent do you think Character would like?" or "Character in your fics does this a lot, do you think he does that to manipulate or not?"
But asking something totally unrelated is more like requesting a headcanon, so I'm probably not going to answer it. Stuff like "What would Character do if x, y, z?" "How would character react to a reader who (random scenario)?" or "Hey in this fic X happened, but what if (completely totally different scenario) happened?" Basically anything that is more "make up a totally new thought" instead of "hey talk more about this fic/concept."
And it's a bit complicated because sometimes I will answer unrelated questions, but typically only if there is some relation to stuff I've posted about before and it's kind of case-by-case.
But also even if it is related, doesn't mean I will answer someone's ask or answer right away. I don't delete asks that I am fine with answering, so I will probably answer something down the line, but it might be a while later. I've got like... 400 asks hoarded I think? some are requests from when requests were open, some are nice comments, some are questions, etc.
The only main exception to all this is Smiling Man stuff, because there's really not a fandom for Small Spaces and so asking random stuff is kind of necessary, and I will ramble on about him forever.
I hope this makes sense!
edit: To add, I have no problem with people asking for recommendations or stuff like that, like “what are some horror movies you think work in the yandere genre,” “books with obsessive characters,’ etc. I just take a long time to answer cause I like to think about it! Other questions that don’t fall within the “this is potentially a request” category are 1000% fine as well. The clarification regarding what is okay/not okay is just in references to messages that are asking for opinions/thoughts on characters & scenarios.

I know this is very random but would Harley ever have a job while at college? In a real life scenario I'd assume she'd need one for living expenses and while rereading the harlequin for the 56th time I'm suddenly imagining her stuck in a retail job and imagining the gruesome death of every customer who asks a question 😅
Ha! I love asks about Harley’s backstory. In fact, now that I know how to tag things, I’m going to make one for Harley backstory chat.
It would be hilarious to say yes, and write a crack-fic about Harley hiding the bodies of rude customers under the floorboards, lol.
I would look at it like this—Harley has always been a manipulative psychopath (that word has less and less meaning every time I use it 🙄), even if she kept a lid on the violence & murder part. No one wants to work a part time job in college, especially her—customer service is her literal nightmare. If she needed cash, she would get it via less conventional means. She’d manipulate someone into getting her what she needed, maybe she’d resort to a little light blackmail. Nothing too heavy handed, and nothing that would ever blow back at her, but she’d do whatever she felt was necessary to get out of working a part time job if she really didn’t want to.
I think it’s mentioned in the Harlequin that she was on a full ride academic scholarship, which would have covered her tuition, room & board, books, and living expenses. The only anecdotal evidence I have of this is from a friend’s cousin. Super sad family story, but she got an full ride to UCLA, and she doesn’t need a part time job 🤷♀️
PS: I actually wrote an alternative origin fic called Weightless Spaces (which could do with an edit, probably) for the Joker & Harley. It’s completely unrelated to the Harlequin with a completely different Harley and a mostly different Jack/The Joker. Harley deals with student loans and money problems in that fic, but she’s not the Harlequin Harley we all know and love. She’d put up with rude customers, including a muppet baby version of J.

Here's another ask! How about some student headcanons for Josuke, Koichi, Okuyasu, & Jotaro? ^^ for example, what kind of habits or quirks do you think they'd have while studying? Also - Another amazing one! Seriously, I'm gonna end up reading all of your works in one night from how lovely they are 😭 I hope I can provide a variety of asks instead of repetitive ones lol !
student headcanons!
hi! thank you for another lovely ask! i’m glad you enjoy my works! not sure if i should make any of these shippy with reader, but i’ll try to include the reader into these! also, i hope you can forgive me for sending in the last one later. truth be told, i thought i finished it and posted it earlier. but it seems that i didn’t finish it, so i did that and posted it. the original thing was supposed to come out much earlier than it did. i’m so sorry for that!
anyway, here’s your student headcanons with josuke, koichi, okuyasu, and jotaro! i’m sorry if some of them are too short for your liking!
@bijoucupid
josuke ;
when he gets to school, he’s always looking for either you or okuyasu, if he hasn’t walked to school with him that day (though, that’s on a rare occasion). he’s very excited to meet up with his friends.
things are very different compared to when he meets you and okuyasu at school. when he meets oku, he’s loud and rambunctious, always wanting to mess around with him and have fun. however, with you, he’s more gentlemanly (thank you for passing that trait down to him, jonathan!) and softer. he wants to give you the impression that he’s cool.
after he meets up with either one of you, he’ll go to his classes. he’s always bored in them, so he spends his free time making small doodles of whatever his mind can think of. sometimes, he can even blank out and doodle random scribbles before realizing that he was doing that.
he’s not very good at note-taking, to be perfectly honest. he’s good at it when he wants to be, but the thing is, he’s normally either too bored or lazy to take notes. he’d be getting better grades than average if he did the notes and paid more attention!
josuke’s pencil case is simple, yet neat and only full of essentials. a pencil, pen, eraser, and a highlighter. everything else, he hasn’t bothered with bringing. he’s satisfied that it isn’t too heavy, though.
he has a certain degree of dislike for school. he’d rather be spending his time with his friends, you, or playing video games at home. though, while he’s stuck at school, his favorite normal school activity are gym classes! he loves being able to participate in the fun sports that they set up. even if he’s good at the sports, he really doesn’t have any time to join an actual team.
he’s also very popular with the girls, even the teachers at his school. they always compliment him, especially his hair. the teachers love to say that he’s a good kid and that he should continue his studies. of course, he’s always very nice to him since they are his elders.
you can normally find him during lunch being surrounded by girls. he doesn’t mind the attention, but if it gets to be too much, he’ll get embarrassed that he’s causing a scene. especially if they’re trying to gain his attention while you’re around! he wants to be intimate and spend time with you while he can find the time to!
once the girls are finally shooed away and josuke has some space to himself, he’ll usually go find where his group of friends are. usually, it’ s just okuyasu since koichi was stolen away by yukako, but every once in a while, he’ll find the couple with okuyasu.
when it’s just him and his best pal, he’ll often talk about the new video games that he knows are coming out. or maybe play some card games with him. whatever keeps them having fun and busy, really. they love to share their interests with each other.
when the whole group is together, they’ll often talk about new stands that have come into the town, whatever they can all talk about and actually have interest in equally.
when he’s with you, however, he’ll want to spend it completely alone. he likes to take you either outside or to an empty classroom where you two can laugh and share your meals together. it always feels like a little date that you improvised together, but it’s always fun.
after the end of the day, he’ll walk home and settle down to play video games. however, tomoko stops him after an hour and makes him do his homework. he hates it, but it really needs to get done.
when he’s studying at home, his mind tend to wander off, but he’s able to pull it back quickly and focus more on the homework. he’s usually wondering what he should do after studying, what his friends/you are doing, or if he should help his mom cook.
his notes are a bit messy, but it’s nothing too bad! it’s just like the average student’s notes! he’s very diligent and to the point with them, but there’s always unrelated doodles on the side of them.
also, when doing projects, he’s very lazy with them. normally, he does the minimum amount to get a decent grade and nothing else. all he really cares about is his friends, but at least he’s putting in some effort.
he’ll usually wait until the last day to finish his project, spending all nighters if he has to. he usually regrets them, but that never stops his ways.
during a group project, however, he doesn’t want be seen as lazy or a “slacker,” so he’ll get his part done as early as possible and let his other group members take care of their parts. if he sees one of them struggling, he’ll even ask if they need help!
overall, he’s an average student. he doesn’t like school, but won’t mind it if it’s something that needs to be done.
koichi ;
koichi is a very intelligent student, first and foremost. he’ll do his work on time and turn it in as early as possible. he wants to work hard to not disappoint those around him.
when he gets to school, he’ll usually try to get to his classroom so that he can have some alone time from the chaos he knows the day will be, but yukako always manages to capture him before. they y’all for a little bit before they have to get to classes.
when he’s in his class, he tries very hard to pay attention. he’ll listen to everything the teacher says and write it down as quickly and neatly as possible, so that he can read over his notes at a later time and understand them.
he’s one of those students that goes overboard with what supplies they have. he carries around many things that he may never even end up using! but, still, he needs to be prepared. this own pencil case holds many things that either you, yukako, or his mother may have suggested to put in.
during lunch, he’ll want to eat with some of his friends, but is normally dragged away by yukako who insists to eat alone together. he’s fine with it and all, but he’d like to spend at least one moment with his friends! he loves her, though, so he’ll go along with whatever she has planned for that lunch.
when he finally gets his time with the students of the dwang gang, he likes to mainly listen in on the conversations that everyone is having. he doesn’t have much to input into a conversation. somethings, he doesn’t even know about. but he likes to listen to others opinions about things.
he’s not considered a popular kid, but he does have people who enjoy him and his company. he’s known by kids in his class, but he’s much less notiable than josuke. a moderate amount of popularity!
koichi is also considered a teacher’s pet, doing many things for them and listening to them. he’s mature enough to get the teacher’s attention and gain their trust. he uses it very wisely.
at the end of the day, he’ll head home and immediately do his homework. he doesn’t want to accidentally take a nap and forget to do it, so he’ll do it right as he comes home as a “just in case” scenario.
his teachers say many praises and good things about him! he’s very reliable and likable to them. though, they do say that he’s nervous about speaking up in class.
this is true, actually! he’s somewhat socially anxious when he has to present things. he tends to over complicate things and make them more than they seem. when he’s presenting in front of the class, he’ll be much quieter and shy, but will try to give as much confidence as he can muster up.
his notes are very intricate and detailed. he uses different colored highlighters in his notes to signify what exactly each important note is. he also has nice handwriting.
when reviewing and studying his notes at home, he usuall has a straight forward plan for them. he’ll review the notes and look over them once before hiding them and quizzing himself. if he gets the answer right, he’ll move onto the next question. however, if he gets the answer wrong, he’ll study it and look over it carefully before trying again.
he loves individual projects! he loves to put his own creativity into whatever he does in his projects. usually, he can’t express those ideas as well when he’s in a group. he’ll love to pitch idea with them, though.
overall, koichi is a great student, very exemplorary and a good example to a lot of students who could use a little push in schooling.
okuyasu ;
okuyasu has a fond dislike of school. he’s not very smart, nor does he remember to do most of his work. though, his friends are always there to help him get back on track with his studies!
when he first gets to school, he’ll always be looking for josuke. he loves hanging out with him almost everyday. but he’ll also be looking for you when the thought comes to mind. he also loves spending his time with you, even more so tham his best pal josuke.
if he meets up with you first, he’s like a puppy craving affection. he’ll always be by yourself and wanting to hold your hand, which you allow. it’s so weird how he managed to get someone like you by his side, especially like this, but it’s something that he would never regret.
if he meets up with josuke, he’ll laugh along with him and talk to him about whatever was up with him. if nothing new had changed, he’ll say so and move onto a different topic. however, if something in his life changed, he’ll talk all about it in his usually funny ways. he’s very expressive with his body.
in class, he usually gets bored. it’s very noticeable on his face. sometimes, he can even fall asleep during the boring lessons and lectures that the teacher gives. he’ll get scolded for falling asleep, of course. but he really hates listening to them and would rather do anything else.
he never takes notes in class, only when he’s practically forced to. when he does take notes, it’s very rushed and scribbled down as fast as possible. he never thinks about studying this sort of stuff after school. after all, who needs it when you’ve got cool friends?!
he’s always playing with something on his desk, usually with the pencil that he sometimes brings to school. other times when he does forget it, he’ll play with the paper that the teacher has given him. if there’s a will, there’s a way, as everyone constantly says and knows. and there is a will to be distracted from class, that’s for sure!
his favorite period of the day is lunch, of course! he’s normally packed a nice lunch with him. though, it’s never usually enough. he’s always hungry even after his meal, trying to see if any of his friends are full and don’t want their meals.
he only really enjoys going to school because he gets to have fun with his friends. he loves them and would protect them with his life, just like he’s done in the past.
when he gets home from school, he never really does his work unless one of his friends help him. he’s not good at it, but he still wants to pass his grade! he isn’t really sure how he even made it up to this point without his friends help!
he’s totally not popular with most people. they think he’s not good looking or smart enough to hang around with. it’s a bad stigma to be around, but he really doesn’t mind it. just as long as he has his good few friends, he’s alright with any insults that are thrown his way. though, that doesn’t mean he won’t want to fight back. he just chooses not to.
he’s also really jealous of josuke sometimes, how many girls get to go up to him. but then again, he has an amazing partner like you. he wouldn’t trade anything in the world for you, so he’s glad that he doesn’t get much attention from anyone like that.
he never studies, not unless it’s woth friends. by himself, he tries to, but he ends up getting too distracted and does something else with his time instead. his mind doesn’t focus on one thing so easily.
he loves doing group projects. they motivate him so much to get the work done, especially when he sees his friends working around him. he’ll mostly follow their lead and work as much and as hard as he can.
sadly, though, individual projects aren’t the same. he’s always confused and always asks help from his friends, leading the project inevidibly turning into a grouo effort.
his teachers say nice things about his personality, but that’s about it. you can tell that they don’t expect much from okuyasu, but whatever good things that do come from him, they celebrate it in their own ways. they always commend him for being such a nice young man once you get to know him, however.
overall, he’s a much better person than a student. he’d rather do anything besides school work and isn’t too good with it, but with the help of his friends, he feels as though he can do anything! he also loves you very much.
jotaro ;
jotaro is a different story, really. he doesn’t know what to do in his high school years, always going back and forth between the idea of being a marine biologist and whatever else. he doesn’t know what’s in store for his future just yet.
regardless of not knowing that, he still tries his best to keep up with the work. even though he’s more of a delinquent than any of the young members of the dwang gang could ever be, he still manages to get exceptionally good grades. he’s actually one of the most intelligent in his classes!
throughout his high school years, he didn’t have many friends. the “friends” that he had, before the events of hunting dio down, had mostly abandoned him due to how scary and intimidating he seemed.
after, however, he did seem to have a reliable friend and a partner. you were always by his side and he could never ask for anything more, even if that is cheesy to admit.
he can always be found doing things that he’s not allowed to do in school. but he does them anyway. honestly, no one in the family knows why he turned out to be a delinquent after being such a cute child (from what family pictures holly had shown you). maybe it was him just going through a phase.
in class, he’s quiet, yet intimidating. he doesn’t take notes, as he knows that it would make him seem a little less cool. then again, you’re in his class and already know that he knows most of this stuff. he’s a dork for knowledge, after all. he loves learning, ironically!
when lunch comes around, he’s always hanging around with you. he’ll eat his lunch while trying to make sure that you’re safe, even when there isn’t any threat of anyone or anything around. he’s paranoid most of the time. though, after going to egypt, you guess that he has a right to be anxious.
he always does his homework when he comes home, only after his welcome home kisses (he’s embarrassed about it and will never say that he even gets them, let alone enjoy them.) and a snack from holly. for him, it’s fairly simple to do. he always manages to turn it in, even if he skips a class or something similar to that. you wonder how he’s able to do it sometimes. maybe with the help of star platinum? you have no idea.
everyone and their grandmothers also know that he’s very popular, particularly with women. they’re always trying to talk to him and gain his attention. though, he could really care less about them. it’s irritating to him, but they never seem to leave, even if he yells at them to go away. maybe they’re just immune to his threats.
he studies a lot at home. though, it’s about more advanced subjects. he has books upon books of study material, things that you don’t even know anything about yet. but when you come over, you’re always eager to learn about what he’s up to with those books.
when it comes to projects, he’s not the best at them. he doesn’t care for things like that. he only really cares about the grade, so he tries to make it simple and come up with a decent design. not very creative, but it’s something.
people would usually just offer to do the work for him in group projects. he knows that it’s because they think that he would beat them up if he didn’t make them do the work. or it’s because they’re genuinely nice people. he really doesn’t care, letting them do whatever they want.
his teachers don’t say too much about him, mostly in fear of him. of course, he won’t do anything to them, they’re his elders and that wouldn’t be respectful at all. he would just give them looks at the most. they do, however, think that he’s a very smart student and has potential for great things.
in college, he’s much more careful with his studies. this is the part that counts towards his degree in marine biology, after all. he needs to be perfect at everything he does in college.
he’s a good student in college, almost never missing a class and genuinely interested in the topics that are spoken about. he loves learning about all the different sciences and how to study a certain type of aquatic plant or animal.
sometimes, when coming up with his own scientific experiments, he’ll ask you to help him out. of course, you accept with open arms and help him to the best of your abilities. though, he wants you to be precise and orderly. it’s a bit hard to keep up with him!
generally, in high school, he’s mostly seen as a delinquent. but to you, he’s just a real big dork that loves learning. he’s very interested in sciences, specifically marine biology and later on, plans to make that his degree in college.

Hello everyone!!
I hope you all are comfortable and safe in these times of crisis!!
With most places being closed down due to quarantine, I am still working full time (damned service industry jobs!!) and am still safe from getting Corvid-19 so far. But though I haven't been stuck at home, I can say that I've been able to get a lot done on this next chapter of "A Marriage of Inconvenience" this month!! So that's an upside...
I just wanted you all you know that I have not forgotten about our boys! I have a fourth of the actual finished version of the chapter completed and as of tonight i have added more details and almost all dialogue to my rough outline for the other sections, so I feel really good about the progress so far. Still, I predict it will still be some time in April that it actually gets completed and posted.
As always, thank you all for being so patient with me!! ❤ And to switch it up, let's do something different! 😁 I would like to ask you all: regarding this fic, once Ignis and Gladio go through with the marriage, what sort of scenarios would you like to see play out as they learn one another and get accustomed to living together for the first time?? I love thinking about how different they'd be and what type of scenes to play out and have a few moments tucked away fro writing alresdy, but I'm also curious to know what you all picture as well! I'd love to try and fit them all in as a thank-you to my readers for supporting the fic! ❤👍 So feel free to comment the post or hit up my DMs with your dream scenarios for the fic! 😁
On another random, unrelated note: I should have listened to my husband and bought a nintendo switch forever ago when he suggested me to 😭😭 now that everything is in quarantine and I never preordered it, switches are sold out everywhere amd I don't have the new Animal Crossing!! I'm so jealous and saaaaaad... lol. But when i DO eventually get my hands on it I'd love to play with you all!! ...Until then I'm stuck watching others play it on youtube to cope. 😩😔
Anyways-! To end, I just want to say thank you again! And stay safe out there!! ❤❤❤
#ffxv#a marriage of inconvenience#ffxv fic#gladnis#gladnis fic#lots of progress which makes me happy but the lack of animal crossing has me big sad#why didnt this loser just bite the bullet and put the switch on her credit card?!?!#🙃🙃🙃#too late now#gladio#ignis#ao3fic#pandanscafanfiction

What do you think of a theory floating around that Shiro dislikes Lance? Because honestly, I'm stumped how anyone can come to that conclusion because we were given examples of how Shiro acts around people he doesn't like and how Lance would behave if he was around someone who he's aware of either doesn't like, trust, or isn't too fond of him and the interactions between Lance and Shiro just doesn't seem anywhere comparable to the scenarios I'm talking about.
I think it’s a pretty clear juxtaposition of two fandom trends.
1. There’s a very robust group of people who are very fond of victimizing Lance.
I kind of refer to this as the “langst party” but I think that’s not entirely true because some people write “langst” purely for the sake of enjoying frolicking in dark places and that’s, y’know, can’t fault them.
But roughly, there’s a very vested interest in sections of the fandom in seeing Lance not as one of the most emotionally savvy people on the team and overall a hero who is able to take care of himself and meaningfully deal with his own insecurities, but as a defenseless and intensely vulnerable person, to the point of giving him a character flaw of internalizing things without discussing them with people (a character flaw markedly held by Shiro, and Keith, and to a lesser degree Allura, but definitely not by Lance).
Because the point of this exercise is nobody loves Lance more than them, and in fact, everybody else hates Lance. His team hates him, his friends hate him, random people at the Garrison hated him, the writers hate him…
Which is… manifestly not true. But it needs to be true to see Lance as an unloved victim which is very important for, I think, flattering themselves (or whoever they want to ship Lance with) as the one person who can see his real worth.
Which, being fair- if there’s one trait here that is authentically Lance, it’s the concept of hidden worthiness. Lance out of the team has a conflicted relationship with his specific “heroic identity”. He first specifically, strategically interrupts Allura so as not to hear it, and then when it is finally stated in the open- that the Blue Lion is the heart of the team- it’s Lance saying it with certainty and confidence… about Allura.
Lance worries his contributions aren’t enough and then when he realizes they are important he assumes Allura can do it better, which… he’s wrong. And this is frustrating.
But Lance is not hated, by Shiro or otherwise- this perception of Lance as an interpersonal underdog is frankly, morbidly hilarious to me because Lance is the interpersonal champion of the team. His major successes- s2e2, s4e6, to name examples- come from connecting with other people and knowing his feelings. He did the best during the Lion Swap- a few embarrassing near-collisions in Red but other than that almost immediately settling in and working the kinks out- because he’s good at knowing where he is emotionally.
And yet, the attitude is out there- because the ultimate point of this exercise is it has nothing to do with Lance the character’s feelings- it has everything to do with the fans who want to consume the feeling that they’re the only one who cares about him, that they’re lifting up this wounded soul. And in that case, pointing out that canonically Lance is manifestly not a wounded soul, and doesn’t need to be fawned over, and has friends who are there to support him, doesn’t appeal. It’s not what they’re getting out of it.
The other side of it, with Shiro in particular:
2. Shiro is mistaken for an ideal person and judged harshly when he doesn’t live up to that ideal.
Shiro adores his team. Compassion and empathy are traits he places a very high value on. In Shiro’s eyes, a leader who fails to support, nurture, and care for their subordinates is the lowest form of filth- they have failed the fundamental thing that makes them worth following. As a leader, he thinks that it’s his job to take care of these people. It’s one of the first things he says about the idea in s1e1: “My team was captured by aliens once, I’m not going to let it happen again.”
Shiro reflexively takes charge, not in that he starts bossing people around but in that he immediately feels responsible for other people’s welfare. And this is a charming and heroic trait- this is the worthiness the Black Lion sees in him.
It’s also a product of the fact that Shiro lives his life ruled by a sense of responsibility and anyone he views as in a situation comparable to his- Zarkon, Lubos, Slav, Keith in s3/early s4- Shiro feels comfortable projecting the unrelenting sledgehammer of his own personal standards on them.
As I just made a post about, Shiro reads as someone with PTSD and OCPD. In short, he’s got a lot on his plate while already being naturally kind of high-strung and prone to internalizing struggles as personal failings. He’s under a lot of pressure and its inevitable not all of his interactions with the team are going to be perfect. He’s going to mess up, he’s going to yell at people, he’s going to regret it and try to do better. This is all pretty standard- it’s the behavior we see from the rest of the cast, and, people in general, especially people like Shiro who, again, have a massive load of stress they’re dealing with.
However, there’s a pervasive perception of Shiro as the completely well-adjusted, infinitely more mature than the rest of the cast, flat-out father figure- which is through and through not who he is. Because of this, completely understandable instances of Shiro losing his temper are viewed out of universe either as complete jokes (s2e10 and its fandom reaction) or suddenly not funny any more because now he’s losing patience with Keith, and this must be evidence that Shiro is sinister and evil somehow now.
As much as the fandom has a bad habit of treating Lance like a victim, the fandom has an equally bad habit of either treating Shiro like a saint who can do no wrong or- when he fails to live up to that- like a demon out to ruin everyone’s lives, especially Lance’s.
Roughly, Shiro has had some imperfect interactions, with Lance and with others. This is because he’s an imperfect person. The problem is, with the expectation he should be, or that he’s presenting himself as such, it means that his imperfect interactions are seen as an act of malice, rather than again, a stressed person with a lot on his plate not always knowing the right thing to say. The perception that Shiro is actively or maliciously disregarding Lance, rather than the fact that even out as far as season 4, our heroes are still growing and getting to know each other.
The truth of it..?
In s1e1, Shiro is contextualized as Lance’s personal hero, and his first interaction towards Lance is remembering his name unprompted, thanking Lance for helping him, and offering Lance his hand. Lance eyes the mechanical prosthetic, unsure of how to feel about alien technology, but then looks up at Shiro’s face- smiles, and clasps it. The implication is thus that Lance is slightly uncomfortable at first with the implications of what happened to Shiro, but he trusts Shiro.
Shiro is shown in this scene to live up to Lance’s admiration of him. He’s, at the core, a good person.
Now, there are also a few scenes in early season 1 of Shiro sort of rolling his eyes, expressing frustration, or shutting Lance down. Again, Shiro is a perfectionist who’s very concerned with making a good impression, and Lance is the kind of guy who’s much more inclined to wing it. In that sense, Lance is more confident than Shiro- he’s not afraid to look goofy. This contrast is shown big time in s4e4, when Shiro is positively wooden and painfully uncomfortable the entire time, while Lance is hamming up his lines and dangling from the Red Lion striking poses for strangers.
(Seriously, consider Lance basically doing the clothed equivalent of a pole dance in front of an audience full of strangers compared to Shiro’s look of visceral discomfort when Worm Coran presents him with a tight shirt to wear)
This initially leads to conflict (s1e1, “Girl, you’ve already activated my-” “LANCE.”, s1e6 and “Nope, not doing that.”) but we never see anything I would call a major falling out between Shiro and Lance- and Shiro relaxes a lot around Lance as the series goes on.
As you say, anon, Shiro doesn’t treat Lance like someone he doesn’t like, because Shiro is someone of incredibly pointed standards- if he doesn’t like someone, he verbally lays into them with an intensity that makes it very clear. Even the early stress between them is not because Shiro dislikes Lance- he likes Lance, and sees him as someone he wants to take responsibility for/take care of. It takes Shiro a while to come to trust Lance as someone who can take care of himself, but that’s very much present by the time of s2e10- the point at which Lance confidently states he can make an incredibly difficult shot and Shiro- despite not knowing much of Lance’s marksmanship- hangs back and trusts Lance to make that shot.
This is a big deal for Shiro, who really dislikes being hands-off. And when Lance makes that shot, Shiro praises him in a way that suggests he was very impressed.
Shiro sees Lance as someone he can be proud of to have on his team. They may not always agree, but Shiro trusts Lance. He does override him in s4e6, however, at the same time, as soon as it becomes clear Lance is right, they need to get out of there, Shiro reverses that call and agrees with him.
And Lance trusts Shiro. I think the clearest example of that is s2e8, where Lance is willing to pointedly disagree with Shiro to his face. That might not sound like respect, but it is- you have to remember Lance looked up to Commander Iverson, but didn’t really trust him, and this was exemplified in s1e1 by the fact that Lance had zero hesitations doing things behind Iverson’s back. If he disagreed with Iverson, he’d just work around him.
We have never seen Lance go behind Shiro’s back like that, and that, to me, is the nail in the coffin. Lance expects, and is used to getting, that if he has a genuine concern he can go to Shiro and bring it up and even if Shiro disagrees, he’ll at bare minimum lay out his reasons for doing so (as he did in s2e8). When Lance argues in s3e1 against Keith leading, he never once says “well, I disagree with Shiro’s call”- his rebuttal instead is “well, I never heard Shiro say that,” and when Black, Shiro’s Lion, corroborates the decision, Lance’s response is that even if he’s disappointed, that this is fair and he can trust that.
The one time Lance accuses the Black Lion of hating him- the closest I think he’s possibly come to suggesting he thinks Shiro resents him- he very clearly changes his mind seconds later to, again, “We should trust Black’s decision because he wouldn’t make it without a good reason.”
“The Black Lion hates all of us!” is petty venting, and deeper down, Lance trusts Black- just like he trusts Shiro if they might not always agree. I don’t think Lance still holds Shiro as a distant personal hero the way that he did at the beginning, but Shiro came off that pedestal to instead become Lance’s friend. That Lance doesn’t have stars in his eyes when it comes to Shiro any more is a testament to the fact that they’ve become closer, and Lance now has a better sense of the real Shiro.
So I think that’s about what it comes down to- Lance can get mad at Shiro, he might grumble at some of Shiro’s calls, but, ultimately, he trusts Shiro, and cares about him. Lance doesn’t dislike Shiro, and Shiro doesn’t dislike Lance. They definitely have room to be closer, and, given this picture by Lauren Montgomery:
I think that we have damning evidence they’re going to get closer if I’m correct in my theory about Lance having an arc about sexuality, that it’s going to be mostly Shiro supporting him through that.
Much the way Hunk was the main person trying to help Keith process the immediate ramifications of his revealed galra heritage, much like Allura’s immediate reaction to finding out Pidge was a girl was to try to connect with her (which, if there’s something to the theory that Pidge is a trans girl, it’s actually rather sweet of Allura to immediately hail her as a kindred spirit in that sense), Shiro is depicted with a fond hand on Lance’s shoulder and standing with him for support. Lance is a little uncertain, like Keith and Pidge, but he’s there, and he’s smiling.
The implication from the picture, if we indeed take it as foreshadowing, is that we’re due for an arc of Shiro being there for Lance in a period of introspection or self-exploration. And this is flat-out not the interaction of people who dislike each other. It’s very hard not to read this picture as Lance is drawing strength and confidence from Shiro’s presence, and Shiro is making an effort to be here for Lance.
Even if it’s not meant to be taken as foreshadowing, this is how one of the formative minds behind VLD views Shiro and Lance.
It’s also worth noting that Sven’s fate in s3e4 is mirroring the death of Shirogane in the original series, GoLion, and Sven’s hospitalization in DotU (which is an adaptation of the same event)
Both times, for a bit of context, the reason why Shirogane/Sven is trapped in single combat with Haggar is because Haggar’s target is originally Lance- (again, just like in s3e4 Sven takes the bullet to protect Lance). Haggar isolates Lance, attacks him, and traps him in a net, intending to kill him. Sven realizes Lance is missing, goes after him, cuts the net and tells him to run while he holds off Haggar.
That in s3e4, they remind us specifically of this event- Shirogane dying to save Lance’s life- suggest that while Shiro is almost definitely not gonna bite it, that connection between Shiro and Lance is important to the writers. They could’ve put in a lot of other DotU or GoLion homages in s3e4, but in an episode mostly original, it’s Sven, and his selfless sacrifice for Lance, that made it in.

• honestly he is completely lost but he tries to help u to the best of his ability• “um……shakespeare is trying to convey……sadness……through these 5 pieces of bread”• will sit right next to u and ruffle ur hair whenever u get a problem right or if he just finds u cute bc ur so concentrated• might get sleepy/bored since it’s so quiet so he might doze off on the desk• u begin to make up a game and see how many pencils u can stick in his hair before he wakes up
wonho
• he will try to pull some freaky shit at first like he’ll know ur studying and walk into the room wearing a button up and glasses and he smirks “class just started. call me mr. shin”• and ur like “hoseok please i have a big test tomorrow i really need to study”• he then totally understands and comes over to sit next to u. he keeps his hand on ur lap while u pore over a massive textbook• if he can see that the stress is taking a toll on u, he’ll make little drawings on the corner of ur paper• it’s all bunnies that have speech bubbles that say “u can do it (y/n)!!”
minhyuk
• tries to help u when u need it but really? he’s a distraction LMAO• keeps talking about stuff unrelated to the subject ur studying• “hm that diagram of a building reminds me of this one video i saw of this dude who spat-”• “i don’t wanna know the end of this video minhyuk”• attempts to balance a pencil on his nose while u look through ur physics notes• “(y/n) look!! (Y/N) LOOK BEFORE IT FALLS”• “minhyuk i love u but for the love of-”• u have to kick him out and he’ll pout as he has to go entertain himself
kihyun
• says to call him if u need any help and leaves the room with a cute little “good luck!”• comes back 5 minutes later with tea even though his name hasn’t left ur lips since he left. “i just thought u might need something to calm ur nerves” he says• is really intelligent and can help u with most things, he just jokes around a lot and always does stuff like• “if u get this problem right……u get a kiss”• he cringes at himself and punches ur desk in embarrassment• u have to get a new desk
hyungwon
• is actually really helpful when he’s awake• knows a lot of random information that comes in handy when u have questions• even if he doesn’t completely know the information he can draw a conclusion based off the context of the text this dude’s insightful• has the most shocked reactions when he reads something mortifying in ur textbook• “the egyptians pulled mummies’ brains through their noses???!!!” • he just mindlessly skims through ur textbook with u while keeping his hand on top of urs• yea he might doze off on top of ur papers and u just sigh and lay ur head next to his and take a power nap
jooheon
• honestly does not want to study, he wants to go outside and have fun with u and go to the park with u or something• watches u write notes furiously from a distance, giving u the puppy pout to tell u he wants u to hang out with him• he tries to study with u, he really does• but whenever he’s next to u he can’t stop giggling at whatever he finds amusing whether it’s ur messy hair or look of concentration or when he sees a funny word in ur textbook• taps rhythms into the desk with his pencil, probably tries to make a song on the spot
changkyun
• he’s a quiet studier, he’ll sit across from u in the library and actually do work• u take a break and come over to his side to see how he’s doing• he actually drew pupils on his eyelids and used the opportunity to take a nap• “babe wake up the library’s about to close”• “HUH WHAT-”• he shoots up too fast and knocks books down from the desk• following the unanimous “SHHH” he gives u a sheepish smile, picks up his psychology book, and leaves out the door with u
