i only read tumblr once a day because i [try] to stay sane so only just caught up with the art discourse, which I do have some bits n shit I want to add: a bit fasile for one but, dont you as an artist have upkeep and resource needs to produce? even if its just like...computer, tablet and necessities to continue existence because art takes time to make, those are real, and cost money. "art" in an absolute sense can be made for free with minimal time through just thinking, but like, a webcomic that is a physical thing made of electronic patterns and hosted on a server, takes time and takes stuff. "Webcomics" isnt a free infinitely repeating resource, and you are more than a machine to create webcomic, and none of us are infinite as a resource! at worst, art hits public domain eventually. that said even from that place of survival in capitalistic society it DOES make sense to at least have free public facing art as PROMOTION even if its just idk downtime sketches, doodles, memes, fanart etc so like im not 100% disagreeing yknow, and I am not and artists cant be a paying consumer my/their own art, art has to exist for the self too, the self that isnt a "paying class", or i just start making marvel movies and then its time to find my cool wet hole in the dirt and express my creative individuality like im a mathmatician of statistical analysis of fluid dynamics.

now that im awake i was going to answer these point by point, but this kind of flies past my point that making art exclusively for those who pay is abysmal and treating your audience like they're thieves is a poisonous and off-putting response to one's perceived "loss of income" (which is not even theft because the item being "stolen" can be reproduced infinitely. im talking about like a digital image like a comic page and not a physical item where there's limited copies lol). people either want to pay you or they dont; you can't force people to pay you by making access to your work harder, worse, more inconvenient, and more degrading to your audience. you can't induce artificial scarcity and be a good person.

like yeah obviously art production takes money. that's why most artists work desk jobs instead of trying to make it a solo venture and just expecting the world around them to pick up their slack. i didn't come out of a lotus blossom with a tablet ready to go, i worked desk jobs from age 15-24 in order to have enough savings to cushion myself if need be and pay for base supplies. i use tablets and items gifted/sold to me at a steep discount by my friends. i lived really poor in order to have the life i wanted. and i really loved it lol. i still think of that time so fondly.

once the comic is produced and posted, it is free for my audience to look at and the reproduction costs of the finished image is 0 dollars. it can be copied and reposted freely without charge. it costs me basically nothing to host. the production costs are currently covered by patreon donations. if they were no longer covered by patreon donations i would get a desk job instead of making my choice to go into the financially unsuccessful field of the arts my audience's personal problem to solve. if i don't make things people want to buy, that's my problem and not my audience's.

yeah, it would suck to have to stop doing this because its no longer financially viable (it is really financially hard right now; the state of the world around us is not conductive to the patreon life), but i wasn't entitled to it anyway. i get to make art for a living bc i have an audience that permits me to. why would i start treating them like dogshit or lying about value of my work to squeeze extra money out of them after what they gifted me?

I think there are ways to do it as one sentence and probably lots of them, but we're going to need a little style.

is, at its heart... not very interesting to start with. I'm not saying my version is interesting. It's not. It's just the clearer version of what you gave me.

If this were in my first draft (and it totally would be), I would rewrite the sentence entirely, not tweak it.

"One of the worse" is a culprit here. So is "really". This feels flabby and generic. It's only one of the worse and not one of the worst? Is this only, like, B-grade sucky?

Who is this person? This collection of banalities won't tell us. Sure, it's in the middle of something else that will help, but it's still so plain and so loaded down with helpers like "really" instead of having strong word choices in the first place.

Is this a person who uses very long sentences that get lost in their own verbiage? That's a style choice and it can work.

guys. i think we should talk about the Presentable Liberty and Expotable Money character lore.

SPOILERS!!!

Theres two endings to Presentable Liberty: one where you leave your room to find out your prison cell was the elevator the whole time (Mr Money moneysaving tactics tm), and one where you don't. the leave ending is obviously sadder, but the stay ending give you so much more info? Like, Mr Money explains his whole plan to you (classic villain, very chefs kiss). of course, I think it can be said both games are about loneliness? yes?

PRESENTABLE LIBERTY:

Prisoner was trapped there because they're one of the few who's IMMUNE TO THE VIRUS, that's why Mr Money says "you're worth every penny". He fed them and a few others one of the only working versions of the antidote, which means there's more ppl like them (potential to explore aftermath of the game). I feel like ppl dont know about this? and he was all planning on harvesting their organs and all that for money, which he does, but yknow. we can pretend. one can explore whether or not all the prisoners were in the same building, whether you meet prisoners on the outside, or you could talk about the fact that a lot of the Happy Buddies were being fired because the prisoners were killing themselves and all that. Trapped lonely.

Salvadore's cool, the Prisoner and him were friends before, that seems like an obvious place to arrive. Loneliness of freedom? Room to explore backstory for him and the Prisoner. I got a headcannon: he picked his name for himself because he wanted to sound cooler. Seems par for the course for him, and that would be a cool little detail. I'd love to explore his relationship with the prisoner, and if any of you watched Sanders Sides, he gives BIG Roman energy.

Charlotte has "pick your poison" type loneliness. It somehow seems like both of them are very good at loneliness, however you wanna interpret that. She also gives "person who loves the colour purple".

Mr Smiley's my favourite, but that's only because there's so much about him. He was hired to be the prisoner's happy buddy, Mr Money was holding his two daughters hostage to keep him working, turns out they died ages ago, you wonder what his life and work day was like, and with all the lore, you wonder what kind of person he was. The fact that his name is Mr Smiley is just salt in the wound.

LETS TALK ABT EXPOTABLE MONEY.

Youre Mr Money's organ supplier. so. immediately, added layer of depth. you, Mr Money, and Madame Sinclaire, whos a baddie, we love her. I like how it explores the opposite side of the fight, the moneys side. I believe its about one's obsession with earning money, and in fact about how when you're anxious about money, no amount seems enough and you use everything you can to try to get more. the "I need to keep earning more money or it'll all disappear if I look away" mentality. (If you haven't read the short story Johnny Mnemonic, it feels like that is what this game is based off of, or maybe theyre just coincidentally thematically similar in which case read it anyways,)

I feel Madame Sinclaire was one possible future for Mr Supplier where she also used to be hyperfixated on money but was able to turn away from that, while Mr Money is the opposite possible future. you earn money even when you don't click, and i'm not sure but can someone comfirm whether or not the clicking is slowing down your money production? THAT would be a great element of the game to further represent the money-obsession theme I theorize. its also your choice whether or not to send your cat on more trips, and in the end, one can argue its Mr Supplier's fault his cat got killed. One could also argue Madame Sinclaire somehow knew the cat was theirs and killed it to prove a point.

Also just a side note, it seems that the organ failure was an accident that Mr Money didn't expect, but he managed to make it work in his favour still. somehow. perhaps he wasnt concerned because of his secret weapon, the Prisoner.

I do think I will need to watch or play Menagerie: Archive if this obsession continues, I hear theyre in the same universe.

Hi! Absolutely and totally fair that Princess Pop needs to go to someone who can focus on her care, I totally understand. I will, instead, ask to get set up with a different Pokémon!

So, first off I’ll get me and my brothers List Of Pokémon out of the way because any Pokémon that would join the team would be around the others lol.

So, my brother’s team is a drowzee, a houndour, a gastly, a hisuian growlithe, a male indeedee, and an espurr with some sort of fancy breed variation. My Pokémon are a steenee, azumarill, some sort of breed of ducklett, and a gible. Between the two of us we also have several strong Pokémon that were too dangerous to be in the wild, but those never interact with our other mons without like, a ranger there working with them. They’re all poison types. Then there’s Ogerpon, an old girl who lived in the mountains for a while. Annndddd of course! Our weird dragons! They’re strong seemingly variants of cyclizar, but they were hurt a while back and can’t battle. They’re our ride Pokémon, and pretty much always around us. With this whole group there are some energetic mons! Though I match their energy haha. It’s definitely not a group that just every Pokémon would be able to get along with.

I am interested in adopting a Pokémon. I’ve been considering a fire type, but I’d also be interested in an electric, fighting, poison, or normal type. I know for sure without a doubt that when Marius DEBUTS in TVL is when I was DONE FOR. Like the slow burn leading up to it with Lestat trying to find him and then when he finally shows up he's this like nurturing, comforting force that is so gentle with him!!!!!!!!

Like idk how everyone else feels but my first time reading VC I was just going in cold, like there was fandom on LJ and stuff but I wasn't really lurking (bc spoilers lol) so I was just going into each book completely fresh and ready for an adventure, so I remember feeling like TVL was this MYSTERY to me the first time and I was just so excited to even see what it was about. But TVL (even to this day) really takes off for me when Armand shows up and then like, Armand already intrigued me so much and I was like WHAT WHO * MADE * THIS GUY OH MY GOD and I was just mega excited to meet him.

And as for the second question, I'm not sure I really have an answer! Coming out of TVL he was my favorite character so any time he showed up I was so excited to see him. Again, to this day I think I kinda rank my enjoyment of the VCs depending how much Marius is in them. 😂 But when I first read VC, Merrick was the most current book and it took me a couple years to read and catch up (with the Mayfair detour bc Merrick was supposed to be a crossover lol) so B&G was my first VC that I got to like go out and buy when it came out and it was like THE NEW BOOK MORE VAMPIRES! And just wow like how exciting that I caught up in time for a WHOLE BOOK about my fav. 🥹🥹🥹

But reading B&G maybe cemented it? tbh it was such a long time ago it's hard to say. It's just kinda always been there. Like this all happened when I was 12-13 and it was my first like deep dive into adult books and like coming from reading kids's series and YA it was so weighty to me and gave me so much to think about. But like I vivdly remember the first time I read B&G I was in my room and I kept putting it down to cry because it made me so emotional. Like getting to really get that deep dive into his POV and understand how lonely he was and how conflicted he was about his beliefs.

As a 13 year old I think I connected to it with my own point of reference that's evolved over the years; I revisit the entire series every few years and get different things out of it each time, not just from getting older but also just being more educated as time goes on. And sometimes I wonder if he'd be my fav if I read it for the first time at 25, or even if I'd been born at a different time; like would I have felt the same way if I was 13 but it was 2017 and Tumblr was in full swing with radfem rheotric poisoning the well? idk. But I do know that every time I feel the same way, I still love him just as much, even when I pick apart more flaws I just appreciate this character so deeply.

Like yknow to read VC as a 13 year old who is severely bullied you connect with it as being about "outsiders". The year B&G came out a bully put me in the hospital by bashing my head open on a locker. Teachers at my school thought I was going to be a school shooter because I was goth and I liked horror films. So it's comforting to see someone who is an outsider and struggles with Christofascism but who is surviving. And reading B&G and hearing how much he struggled was so like grounding for me. I'm not sure I can explain it now without it sounding trite (and maybe it was trite bc I was 13). And like him being a savior & mentor to Lestat was so comforting to me like I think at that age my biggest fantasy was that a vampire could come steal me away from my difficult life LOL. I wanted someone to come save me!!!!!!!!!

And then you know, growing up, being in an abusive relationship, having people around me die, trying to understand how I identify as queer, how I navigate my relationship to my own creativity and what it means to me, growing as a person and trying to be the most mindful and empathetic version of myself that I can be; all of this stuff is all over VC and in that book in particular.

It just means a lot to me man!

And I love that VC asks us to empathize with bad people, it asks us to forgive people, it asks us if we're are only our worst deed and if we deserve love even when we've fucked up. Lestat and Marius have so much in common so I think these themes just permeate both of their stories so much in every book, but. Idk for whatever reason Marius is the one that stuck out to me and I've never been able to shake it!!!!!

The main reason I’m not a huge fan of Sora/Yuki is because how much of it is just Sora’s programming? But at the same time that just makes everything 1000x more interesting because where does Sora begin and the programming stop, yknow? Sora is so vastly different from Akane imo that it feels weird to call Sora nothing but an imitation of Akane, but… canonically, i mean, that’s all she really is

I’m definitely a big believer in your own interpretations of media (and especially with some of Kodaka’s choices that i don’t personally agree with) and in Sora’s case I kind of don’t believe she’s just this really simple ai. I definitely think that her relationship with Akane and the melding of them is v. v. interesting and could lead to a lot of emotional development but it becomes a lot less interesting to me when it’s just like “oh yeah sora isn’t even like. anywhere close to real she can never be real whatsoever” like is the questioning of her own reality not enough? cuz her emotions feel pretty fucking real and it feels ridiculous to say otherwise

In my own fanfiction & writing for a post sdra2 what-if-sora-survives a lot of her struggle is with figuring out how much of akane is still in her. like. that’s almost a seperate person, but wait, no it’s not. i have her memories. i have her face. i stare in the mirror and she looks back and am i her? am i the one who did all those horrible things? or was it someone else? and sora’s struggle with that could be so so interesting

and how yuki/utsuro plays into it too ughhhh

did sora ever really love yuki, or was it all just the programming? and is that programming her or is it akane? and who is she, if she’s not just akane? utsuro and akane are 100% an unhealthy ass relationship and that always will kinda poison any variation of sora/akane x yuki/utsuro ships for me.

but utsuro and akane at the same time are so fucking interestinggggg in their toxic mess like she fucking worships him. he is a god to her but to him? akanes just another follower. a particularly loyal one but at the end of the day he. does. not. care. about. her. whatsoeverrrrrr!!! he doesn’t care about anything, not even himself

and i think she kinda knows that, or is aware but she doesn’t even care because to her utsuro is a god and she’s thankful he even lets her worship him. because he saved her. and how fucked up must akane’s situation must have been? i mean, i can’t imagine. and now, post sdra2, sora has all these memories. she remembers all this shit, all the reasons why she worships and loves utsuro but also. she has other stuff. she has yuki, and yoruko, and all these new memories that she had made. but, but… but she would still pick him.

Hi I am here to ask about your OCs forever and ever. Pick a group of OCs and give me a bunch of random facts about them. Preferably little and seemingly unimportant facts like what their hobbies are or favourite foods or what their childhood dreams were. Little things yknow

(They’re on the brain since I started watching Death Note and I’ve created an au that’s Death Note but with those OCs. Yes I have art I will be sharing later.)

The main cast consists of Maroon, Zerie, Krystll, Hare, and Midnight!

As much as I would like to discuss their favorite foods, here’s a fun little fact about them.

None of them can eat.

Well, hypothetically, Hare, Krystll, and Midnight could eat. They just haven’t in several years because they no longer have the need to. It’s an interesting perk of being vassal to an eldritch being- several body functions are deemed unnecessary and negated in order to maximize a human’s efficiency!

Even though they’re not working in the Syndicate anymore, it hasn’t occurred to them that they could just eat things. But if they ever do rediscover it, I think Krystll would have a real sweet tooth and Midnight would like sushi. Hare doesn’t have much of an opinion on food (mostly because he’s permanently his taste buds after experimenting on himself too much).

As for Zerie and Maroon, they just don’t have a digestive system. They’re not human. It’s as simple as that.

Out of the squad, the one with the clearest hobby is Hare. He dedicates himself to the continual study of study alchemy. Unfortunately, his hobby has severe drawbacks, namely the fact that he tests each and every experiment on himself. He’s poisoned himself several times by now when experiments have gone well so at least he has a higher poison tolerance than usual.

Krystll is in the process of rebuilding her life and she’s trying to discover something she’d like to do. She and Midnight like to walk around town and go shopping and do other girl things (such as shoplifting when they remember they’re broke). Krystll does have a casual interest in soccer, but hasn’t ever tried her hand (or, rather, foot) at it.

Maroon, Midnight, and Zerie all agree that sparring each other is as good enough as a hobby as it gets. Of course it’s productive- they’re honing their techniques and tackling each other to the ground and looking badass while doing so!

Maybe it was clear from this group’s unusual lack of direction for life, but most of them have their childhood dreams crushed if they even had them at all.

Maroon looks back on his life and realizes that he’s had no idea what he’s been doing ever. They appeared in the world one day and chose violence. Maroon has matured definitely, but their life has been a constant push and pull to come to peace with herself and figure out exactly what she wants to be (the answer, turns out, was to be gnc as fuck.)

Zerie has always had a course laid out for him and was planning to follow that to the very end of his life. And then he met Maroon. And in the best (and most traumatic) possible way, the entire plan fell apart. Now they just want to have a life that has Maroon in it.

THEY ARE SIBLINGS THEY ARE SIBLINGS THEY ARE SIBLINGS DO NOT SHIP

Krystll is recovering from her guilt and trauma left behind from the Syndicate. As the first to move on, she wants to guide Midnight and Hare through it. She likes to look at this like she’s taking her life back for herself rather than whatever the future has planned, but MAN she missed some key developmental years there.

Hare experiences an odd disconnect from his experiences in the Syndicate, thanks to the fact that at one point his memories were completely wiped. Before that, though, he dedicated his entire life to serving the Syndicate. Now…? It feels like that dream belonged to an entirely different person. He doesn’t know what to do other than atone for what his past self did. The road to recovery is especially tough for him.

Midnight has little qualms about leaving the Syndicate, considering she was never really wanted. Her goal remains unchanged: she wants to travel. Although they know the vast expanse of the multiverse, they want to explore all the beautiful things one world at a time.

Wow, all those random facts said NOTHING about what the story is, huh? That’s cool. Let’s have a fun fact lightning round!

Zerie is excellent at reading expressions and body language and gauging how someone feels at the moment. However it is hard for them to discern why the other is acting that way

➤ also has a seperate section in his house where he keeps all of his poisonous pets together. anyone walking in might think they just walked into a wild jungle out of the blue. one filled with creatures capable of killing you within minutes.

➤ weirdly enough Ayaan likes polishing and manicuring his nails with the greatest care as if his life depends on them (jk im just exaggerating), he will frequently pick the polish on his nails or simply pick his nails in general if nervous or uncomfortable or even flustered. at least the remaining ones that is. Ayaan is missing 4 nails on his left hand including his thumb, then 2 nails on his right hand, courtesy of the kidnappers. he greatly cherishes his remaining nails. and is therefore always seen wearing black gloves no matter the circumstances. wouldn't wanna scare people off yknow.

➤ for some reason, Ayaan attracts the attention of animals, especially this one time when he and keaton (when they were still alive) chose to explore one of their bases in rome instead of riding in a cab, and he petted a cat he found by chance on the streets and the next thing he knew he became their new god

➤ despite his dyslexia, Ayaan loves reading books, newspapers, magazines and literary works of any kind. he usually prefers to read nonfictional works like autobiographies, even instruction manuals over fictional works because they expose him to more vibrant and useful words, plus providing insight on different real-life events and experiences. sometimes he may read a realistic fiction or two, but that's only if he finds nothing else to read. he’ll usually read them for an hour or two everyday inorder to keep his mind fresh with the knowledge. his favourite book is ‘daughters of the samurai; a journal from east to west and back’.

➤ Ayaan was once addicted to marijuana and smoking, but slowly he got rid of his unhealthy addiction. however he still smokes, although not as bad as he used to. however there are times when he's so stressed that Ayaan will start reverting back to his past self and smoke as many as three packets all at once in a single day. it's surprising how his lungs haven't collapsed yet.

➤ thinks very lowly of people, especially politicians. imagine his surprise and horrow when he was assigned to one. he planned to quit the job for a second there but hesitatingly agreed to the job fot some reason. hmmm…

➤ although he's more of a non violent person (if speaking and humiliating people into submission is anything but), Ayaan won't hesitate to throw hands if he wants to. he's skilled in krav maga, taekwondo and muay thai, courtesy of his father. he will beat the shitz outta you, then mock you by going "why you weak? huh why do weak?"

➤ has an especially soft spot for scalpels and sniper rifles. although he isn't partial towards pick axes and haandguns either.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? ugh. I WISH!!!! I want to be better at this, I really do. I usually start strong but I end up with limited energy/time and I want to filter that into writing more. if you've ever commented: I FUCKING LOVE YOU and think you're SO cool! if you really WANT a reply, the best way to get that is to ask me questions haha. it starts to feel weird just "thank you!"ing everyone, ya know?

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I am.... not an angsty ending person tbqh! I think the closest is probably you love the sea, which is a flintwood rarepair selkie fic that I deeply love. it ends happy, insofaras they end up TOGETHER, but if you think more about the implications and how fucking sad it's going to be for oliver... well. I'll leave that to you guys.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? god, I'm well known for having "endings so happy they border on absurd", according to one person online. so, pick your poison I guess! anyways the fic THAT person was referring to was same as it ever was, so, let's go with that!

8. Do you get hate on fics? I have been so lucky lately to not get much hate at all lately, which is a real privilege in the fandom world. remember that I cut my teeth in early days of harry potter, and people were BRUTAL. I definitely HAVE gotten hate - my aforementioned dramione fic has a bit of a weird twist that some people were PISSED about (and once I got an incredibly detailed comment about how badly I fucked up my representation of black Hermione because she... didn't talk that much about hating her hair? which I know is AN experience but not necessarily a universal one) but overall, at least this fandom go around, no hate. thank you, everyone, for that!

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? yes. lots and lots and lots of it. mostly kinda kinky and pretty much all pretty gay. let's not talk about how many times I've had to tag dacryphilia and what that means. I just like when people fuck about things, yknow?

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? nope, never! and I likely never will. too much to keep track of.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? I've had requests but... I would need a translator willing to work pretty closely with me because I want to make sure certain choices come across well, and I haven't found that yet.

14. What’s your all time favorite ship? OH GOD don't make me choose! ALL TIME is still probably dramione, but steddie is a very close second. in terms of canon ships, I'm such a sucker for buffy/spike (leave me alone), and veronica mars/logan (AGAIN LEAVE ME ALONE) and rory/logan (BECAUSE RICH WHITE BOYS NAMED LOGAN ARE A WEAKNESS, APPARENTLY)

What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? pour one OUT for you can't take the sky from me, which is my firefly inspired harry potter au ft pansy/percy, mostly because I had so many big plans for it that I've completely forgotten AND I just can't write in that fandom at all anymore. sorry everyone, I do love what I put out and I wish there was more of it.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? dual POVs, getting so lost in one character I don't flesh out the others as much as I mean to, action sequences, and consistent motivation

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I've done it before (mostly in clean ice, cold hearts, can't lose) and my typical strategy is to indicate that the characters are speaking a diff language (in french, I use guillements and italics) but not to actually WRITE the french, unless it's very short and the POV character doesn't understand it on purpose like in carve.

19. First fandom you wrote for? harry potter baby! my oldest posted fic that I've found online was from 2002, when I was... too young to be interacting with the internet like that, that's for sure.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written? carve your name into my chest and it's no contest. I love same as it ever was as well, which I think is a better WRITTEN fic technically speaking, but carve was a huge passion project that I had so much fun with, and the response to it had been one of my favourite things in the world. oh, and special shout out to make this inn our own, which is my second longest fic ever and was just an absolute joy to do. so, those three, I guess!

saw your long fourth wing post and am sending you a long ask(s) joining you in this space. i so wish violet had kept the poisoner angle! she rides her dragons differently than everyone and gets through the gauntlet in a different way but she can't fight in a different way? can't coat her knives in poison/paralytics? it's been a while since i read the book so can't remember where her poison knowledge comes from but i feel like it could easily tie back into stuff she read in books as a scribe

Also agree that shadow powers fit violet better, like violet’s first instinct to win a fight is sneak around and poison ppl. her idea for that one event is to break into and steal stuff from her mom’s office! And how would her mom feel about having three kids who are all dragon riders but they all have powers that are like defensive/supportive instead of offensive and don’t have anything to do with the kind of strength the dragon school emphasizes!! xaden having lightning def furthers his whole dark and brooding thing. Like what if the only other person who had similar powers as you was the person who killed your dad? Every time you use the power you gained you were reminded of everything all the rebellion kids lost? Augh. Not to mention the optics of it all. Navarre violently quells a rebellion and don’t want to happen again,son of dead rebellion leader manifests powers visually similar to powers of general who killed rebellion leader uhoh last ask i swear. as someone who's also acespec your tags on that second post were also how i felt lmao

the poison thing was a perfect opportunity to paint her as an atypical hero!! plus, the way we're introduced to the culture, there is really no reason for violet to be reluctant about killing...but maybe seeing the effects of her poison up close in combat, and how horrific that is, might let her in on how fucked up it can be, yknow?

and you raise a REALLY good point about the siblings all having non-combatant abilities that i'm kind of obsessed with?? in general i think having the mean general mom be a one-dimensional villain was a misstep, and the suggestions here would force violet's remaining family to be in the story more. and, as you said, show some flaws in the military system that are could actually be acknowledged diegetically.

one of the (perhaps unintentional) themes is that your past does not define you, and you are not obliged to meet expectations set for you, but...violet...stays in the dragon quadrant like her mother wants, gets a badass dragon like her mother wants, even gets powers like her mother's and the most resolution we get for her relationship with her mother is violet mentally saying "Fuck. Her." and continuing to serve until a man convinces her that maybe war crimes are bad, actually. lmao.

i would LOVE if xaden's character actually had depth. his way of mourning his people is serving them, and serving them through wielding the very powers that could have killed his family is so good!! this uh...this does bring into sharp relief the problem of "why the hell did navarre give the children of the people who revolted LITERAL DRAGONS and the power that comes with wielding them even if you're not on dragonback?" but. yknow. whatever. if we're ignoring that: violet switching powers with xaden really, actually, truly leans into that theme in a way that has teeth and meaning.

also no one has suffered as much as acespec girlies who picked up modern romance/fantasy books. why are they all Like That. i'm with you anon <3
