mature | 8 chapters | 29.3k words | chuuya/dazai | READ TAGS
summary:
“So, you went to a pumpkin patch together, which you do every single year, with Chuuya.” Dazai nodded happily. Oda nodded back, speaking slowly to get the point across.
“Chuuya, the same Chuuya who told Ango to ‘go die’ when he complimented his ponytail, agreed to let you compare his hair to every pumpkin you saw, and then proceeded to pay for the one you found that matched, no questions asked. Then, he allowed an employee to say you two were a couple, and even accepted it in front of you. And now you are confused as to why he didn’t correct them.”
Dazai beamed at him and clapped his hands together.
“Exactly! Odasaku you’re always so smart! I knew you would get it!”
Oda just chuckled wryly as Ango pressed his fingers to his temple.
“So what’s the problem then?”, Oda shrugged.
Dazai and Chuuya have been best friends for ten years, attached to the hip even after all of this time. But, what will happen when Chuuya disrupts the precious balance of their friendship by not correcting an assumption that they are a couple? How will Dazai react?
hey look, the sky's falling apart; saffroncassis - bungo stray dogs

summary:
The facts are this: Chuuya is a compassionate person. He cares too much and too fiercely. He gets attached easily and is undyingly loyal to the people around him. He also happens to be the strongest ability user this side of Japan since the turn of the century.
At age 16, Chuuya defects from the Port Mafia and drags his partner with him not so much kicking and screaming as silently begrudging, and the rest follow suit in time.

teen and up | 7 chapters | 29.1k words | chuuya/dazai, dazai & Q, dazai & kouyou, atsushi & dazai
summary:
6 years after defecting from the Port Mafia with his partner, Dazai has many things on his mind: what to do about the freaky mind control kid who is now his orphan to take care of; how to defeat the Guild before they destroy Yokohama entirely, without any intel or plans yet; and… the prospect of marriage. With his boyfriend. Yeah, there’s a lot to figure out.
sequel to hey look, the sky’s falling apart
not yet corpses (still, we rot); itotypes - bungo stray dogs
mature | 10 chapters | 27.4k words | dazai/fyodor, dazai & fyodor | READ TAGS
summary:
"Let's take it from the top. Hi." He gives out his hand. "I'm Dazai Osamu."
Fyodor glances down at the hand, as though it's a trap. To be fair, it could be. But he likes traps. He likes unwinding them. So he grasps Dazai's hand and shakes it, once.
Or, Somewhere in the remote landscape of Meursault, Fyodor discovers that whatever is fundamentally “wrong” with him, is also “wrong” with Dazai Osamu. They proceed to destroy each other, to their heart’s content.
Three-fold Fate; devilrin - bungo stray dogs
not rated | 16 chapters | 60.3k words | chuuya/dazai, ango & dazai & oda, dazai & oda
summary:
Chuuya stands on the shore, his red hair a scar against the cool sea breeze. Behind him, there is a braid of smoke through a page-blank sky. Vaguely, Dazai can smell the stench of gasoline and engine oil of the motor boats about to head out to sea. It is a serene, grey sight: the sun is still a couple of minutes away from the horizon, and Dazai feels winter on the tip of his nose.
A boy. The sea. The lingering taste of violence in his tongue.
Dazai watches as November finds its home in the dawn reflected in Chuuya’s bright, blue eyes. He squeezes the fabric over his chest, not knowing when his hand had moved.
His heart is still beating.
~
At some point in the distant future, the final curtain falls over the biggest conflict the world has ever known. Fyodor dies, the Book is destroyed, and Yokohama knows peace for the first time in decades.
And then, the most curious lead lands on the desks of the ADA–– Nakahara Chuuya, the most feared of the Port Mafia executives, has officially turned in his resignation.
Naturally, Dazai thinks, as the other half of Soukoku, the only acceptable course of action would be to resign in solidarity.

Just some thoughts about Dazai and Oda
This is just a rambling of my thoughts on Dazai and Oda's friendship that I've been having since rewatching bsd, reading the untold origins of the detective agency and the day i picked up dazai light novel (so, spoilers about Oda's appearance in the first and one biiig spoiler for the second that I did this to) (Also, thanks a lot Popopretty for the translation). I'm also halfway through the dark era light novel but I just can't bring myself to finish because the pain. And disclaimer, I do not ship them at all. This is just my perception of their friendship.
Oda saw his younger self in Dazai
Oda's first chronological appearance is when he was just a teenager, around Ranpo's age. There isn't much information about him, just that he happens to be a very skilled assassin. What made him become a criminal so early in his life? Who knows. But something clear about 14 year old Oda, is that he already had a dark vision of life, which is only natural considering the life he was currently having. He seemed to have already given up on finding any sort of positive meaning, his words to Fukuzawa are too contrasting from the Oda we see later on the story as Dazai's friend, almost as if he was a different person:
"I don't need forgiveness. There is no forgiveness in this world. There is only retaliation━revenge against those who betray you".
And the description of him by Fukuzawa:
"The boy's dark brown eyes were frighteningly vacant, void of even a fragment of emotion[...] Fukuzawa suddenly recalled a rumour he had heard about a young redheaded hit man who wielded two pistols and coldly killed his targets while never showing any emotion".
"The boy looked back at Fukuzawa with lifeless eyes━not the way one would expect a boy to look at the person choking them unconscious".
"His empty, emotionless eyes were a reddish brown [...] Even Fukuzawa, who had faced numerous villains and assassins, had never seen eyes like his. Most skilled hit men looked down on others as if they were insects. Their eyes were cold and lacked compassion. But this boy's were different. They weren't cold or any temperature. They were just empty. Not only was there no compassion or kidness, there was no hate or passion to kill. His eyes were those of a person who had given up all hope and despair━the eyes of a person who had removed himself from emotional things".
I found these parts so heartbreaking, since these descriptions came with no other information. What happened to Oda for him to become an assassin? Did he have a family? In the same novel, Ranpo, who's the focus, is mentioned to be wandering by himself and barely surviving because his parents passed away, but he did live a good life with them before they died. With Oda and Dazai, we know nothing about their childhoods, just that they ended up in the dark side somehow (How did Dazai get in Mori's hands after his suicide attempt? Why has he in that environment? Who knows! Until Asagiri gives us that Dazai background story light novel lol). Dazai, just like Oda, was also seen as a teenager who already looked empty, but, his emptiness, because of the job he executed in quite a terrifying way was often linked to his own dark intentions, to some inner evilness. Oda, on the other hand, saw him like "a child who was about to burst into tears". From their first meeting, Oda figured Dazai was most likely involved in sketchy things which meant he was dangerous, and still decided to help him.
Now, the main difference between Dazai and Oda lies in the fact that Dazai seemed to enjoy the violence he inflicted, for example, during Fifteen where he quite literally keeps shooting even after the person is already dead until Chuuya stops him (antisocial tendencies, methinks, but that's a topic for another day). He was often described as ruthless and to be feared, just a wicked person in general even at such a young age. Even now at the detective agency, Dazai doesn't mind using people among other things (I won't get too deep into this since it's not the point, and no, I don't think he's the exact same person he was in the Port Mafia, but some small essence of course would have to remain hidden somewhere. Not ruthless, but not exactly the kindest person you know, you get me).
I believe Oda found this out along the way. At first, seeing such a young boy with the same emptiness he once showed in his own eyes when young, it resonated in him.
"I look at the young man. He is just staring at the ceiling. No emotions, no intents. Just a flat expression, like one who is just telling his age. I cannot believe my own eyes. I don’t even feel like there is a human there".
But after spending more time with him, he most likely realized that sort of emptiness was just too different from his: Oda found a purpose, comitted to it until his last day, and helped people because of it. Dazai would never be able to find his own reason to live, that he craved the most. He didn't find it in the mafia like he intended, and Oda warned him that he would probably not be able to find it anywhere else either. But still, he asked him to try it out and be in the good side, to do something similar to what he did in hopes he would at least find it a bit more beautiful.
So, you can say Oda saw his hopelessness in someone else, who was also just a teenager like he had been, even though they were very different from each other. Oda had some kidness hidden inside of him, had a sense of justice and felt the need to deal with the consequences of his past mistakes from a young age (Ex. Fukuzawa offering to get him out of jail in exchange for information and him refusing to leave. He didn't seem to spend much time in jail, though). Possessing these qualities helped him find his purpose, pushed by Natsume. Dazai, as genius as he is, also has a past of murder━not for his survival but for some sort of thrill, and played a big part in the infamous cycle of abuse in this story. Even though his current self is in the good side and he's helped Yokohama with his intellect, he remains a morally gray character, the most balanced between good and bad. It's up to him to see if he will ever truly redeem himself, and we have yet to look at the world through his own point of view, to see what sort of qualities he has inside.
The depth of their friendship, and my own questions about Dazai's grief
"That was when Dazai first realized: Sakunosuke Oda understood him much more than he'd ever imagined━right up to his very heart, almost to the center of his mind. Dazai didn''t realize until then that someone had known him so well".
One of Oda's more representative traits is that he was a listener. He took the time to listen to Dazai go on about his nonsense, his suicidal tendencies, about pretty much anything Dazai was willing to share. He had the time to get to know him, to look through him, and even empathize, something the people around Dazai had never done. He was seen like he was either ill, crazy, evil. But, with Oda, just a few days into knowing each other, they were already exchanging crazy stories about their lives and creating a bond. In the past, Oda had told Fukuzawa he had spent years alone and didn't really feel the need to have friends, and Dazai probably felt too foreign to ever form friendships, before Oda and Ango (now, we know how things ended with Ango and that's also for another day).
Dazai was the realest, rawest, during Dark Era. His portrayal, the moments spent with Oda, almost made you forget he was a vile criminal and trauma-inducing mentor. He had fun, trusted his friend, made sure to share the information he had found to him and didn't hesitate to make his own subordinates protect him. Even if he didn't understand his motives to not kill people, he did all he could to help, like a friend naturally does.
I wonder how Dazai's grieving process was like. He probably felt guilt, for being the reason Oda joined the Port Mafia in the first place, and for feeling like he could've done more to avoid his death. This is very common when someone close to you dies, you blame yourself somehow, like you didn't do enough. For someone as smart and brilliant as Dazai, he didn't have a clue Mori was behind the entire charade, like he trusted Oda's ability to survive, until he came to the realization that his death was something meant to happen since the very beginning. It's like he never thought there was a possibility his friends could get taken away: Ango, in his own ways, was just good at what he did (the proof is in how he's still standing LOL) and probably too boring for him to consider he was a triple agent, yet he ended up being "a traitor" (in Dazai's eyes). Oda was too good at surviving because, regretful or not, he had an assassin past to back him up, an ability literally related to the future that was like winning the lottery, and the will to live, so, he was untouchable in his eyes. The perfect part of his life, the most normal part of it, was abruptly taken away. Even if he uncovered Ango's "betrayal" very soon into the story, even after finding out who Mimic were, even when [x12768], he didn't put two and two together, the way ADA Dazai does and we constantly see. That really must have shaken him back then.
Again, Dazai has shown the most genuine and raw emotions in the entire story in the moments of desperation regarding Oda. Trying to stop him, and in his last moments, when Oda is opening up. It's far from the confident, neutral, Dazai we saw in the first season and continued seeng during the anime. He acts detached again, but in a different way. He's not seen as evil and ruthless anymore, but it's like he has a mask on. He has everything under control, he smiles because he knows it, he predicts and is one step before everyone else. Something he couldn't do to save his friend.
Dazai only knew Oda for two years, so one might ask, what is it that made him so attached? Why did he throw his whole life away? Is that time even enough for such a bond to form? That's something I wonder if Dazai ever wonders himself. By the time he joined the detective agency, he had spent the same amount of time without Oda as the time spent with him. That messes with your head. The days seem close yet far away, I don't even know if there's a name to that one realization. And years keep passing, they double the amount of time you spent with the person you lost. Then that time becomes a miniscule part of your life, almost as if it didn't happen. The memories get blurry. That's the scariest part of losing someone. But I'm a firm believer time isn't the only factor that makes a friendship meaningful, it's about the positive influence, the good moments, the amount of trust, the depth, the uncovering of one self, and when your friend passes away, the feelings you still have for them no matter how much time passes. Oda has been the person who has gotten closer to that depth of Dazai, and those two years were enough for him to leave the biggest impact in such a complex person. Does Dazai still act based on Oda's final wish? I don't think so, personally (that's also for another dayyy I have so much to say about bsd helpp).
He can remind himself about that turning moment at times, reminisce about the old days like he's been shown to, eventually create new strong bonds when he decides to open up more, like he once did, and the impact is still going to be there, no matter what. Atsushi is probably whom Dazai is the closest currently, not just because he's the orphan he's helping, but because he has a kind nature and talent. And Dazai has the opportunity to be the figure Oda once was for him, in his own way.
In conclusion, this genuinely was just some random rant about my perception of Oda and Dazai's friendship (and some small Atsushi mention at the end LOL). I still feel so broken Oda had to die, don't mind me and my nonsense.

Thoughts on Ango and Dazai
Many a spoiler, up to chapter 95
Did I talk about Ango already today BECAUSE I’M GONNA AGAIN!
Ah, Ango Sakaguchi, Port Mafia’s sad boy (he is, and you can’t prove me wrong), triple agent, informant, and, of course, Dazai's... frenemy? To everyone in the PM, but especially to Dazai, Ango's actions must feel like a double betrayal. Yet, I have a theory that Dazai might have already forgiven Ango, despite what the quite poignant rhetorical question of his would suggest otherwise.
I actually half seriously think (and in the spirit of chapter 95, too), that Ango misses his times at the PM. He misses is friends, and he hates the role he played in Oda’s death. His dedication to his work has been established so early in his life that there isn’t anything that can really replace it for him (no proof just me doing jibber jabber). It doesn’t mean, however, that the consequences of his actions don’t hurt him, or that he doesn’t fell shame and regret.
Maybe since childhood his value has been placed only on academic prowess and not on personal relationships.
I think he learned to prioritize his work and intellectual development above all else. His perception of friendship is that it is, too, a distraction, and his work is more important. Yet his desire to rid himself of the sense of guilt is more than just THAT.
I felt deeply Ango's deal with Chuuya in Dead Apple, when the former basically exchanged his own life for latter's cooperation (even though Chuuya would never collect such a debt, but that's a topic for a diff post). Ango's self-worth, in my opinion, stems from his value to the others around him. The Japanese Gov-t takes precendent, but not without a high cost - Oda's life and Dazai's friendship.
It's no coincidence, too, that it was the three of them, and not just Dazai and Oda. Ango is a balance for the two of them, a grounded medium between the two.
A side-ish note, but the few times when we see Dazai act impulsively or at least following his own emotions is when it comes to his friends. First thing that jumped out to me is that Dazai let Ango go (Dark Era). The whole "Did you really think you would leave here alive?" and then five minutes later "leave before I change my mind". Dazai is conflicted, and for a good reason -Ango, much like Oda, is his friend.
Then the ordeal with the car. It is ~technically~ unclear why there was a car accident, but I think, even basing just on the manga, it is ~relatively~ safe to assume that Dazai had something to do with it. Somebody expressed their opinion earlier by replying to one of my Ango hcs, that Dazai didn't want to kill Ango in that instance. I actually agree with that. I think he still is acting on, if not impulse, but at least emotion, when it comes to his friend. Dazai is manipulative, yes, but there are no bullets in Ango's gun that Dazai grabs. Sakaguchi KNOWS what Dazai will do, or at least try to do... and he gets in the car anyway. Moreover, I think Dazai knows that Ango can predict his moves as well, and that's why we see his terrified face seconds before the accident (ofc, it is also a normal human reaction that I doubt even Dazai would be able to control). Maybe in that instance, Dazai realizes the depth of Ango's shame.
In the later BSD chapters Ango and Dazai are working together again, and as much as it would be out if necessity for Dazai, the chapter 95 demonstrates Ango's devotion to his friend. Not only does he betray the gov-t in order to stop Fukuchi, and potentially detail his career, his future (did he mention death sentence?), Ango doesn't even know if it will work out. "Are you laughing?", he asks Dazai's photo, as if he already knows that he would, at the absurdity of Sakaguchi Ango finally acting not out of sense of duty, but on his emotions too.

Ango, trying to wash out the tomato juice aftertaste: This is m o u t h w a s h
• You and Oda get along really well, you’re like a slightly more responsible Dazai
• You and Dazai tease Ango a lot, and Oda just kind of sits there petting the cat
• The two of you babysit Oda’s kids, and you are naturally amazing at it and love them
• “Why can’t you be more like these little angels? They don’t talk about double suicide or their short king partners”
• The kids obviously love you, and it’s way easier to mother actual children than a grown ass suicidal maniac
• But after babysitting, you tell him he did a good job, because what kind of mom friend would you be if you didn’t praise him??
• Then Oda going in the forever box happens
• The two of you are very broken up over it, even if Dazai doesn’t show it
• You cowboy up and hold him, and you tell him to let it out
• It’s kind of like the episode of Clone High where Ponce dies
• Dazai, playing his game boy: Awww, now Mario’s dead! I’m killing everyone! Oh why couldn’t Oda have had three lives like Mario?!
• Eventually he lets s o m e emotion out, it’s more of a half assed expression than anything, but it’s progress!
• Then you guys join the ADA and things are looking up, even though you still seriously worry for him
• You bet your ass you’re making a good noodle board to keep him on his best behavior
• You give Kenji the most stars, because he’s like your new child
• Imagine playing favorites, pfft, couldn’t be you
• You and Dazai decorate each other’s desks and always sit as close to each other as possible
• When Kunikida moves you two apart, you both get really dramatic and reach out for each other while reciting the most theatrical speeches
• “WAIT FOR ME ON THE OTHER SIDE!”
• “AS LONG AS THESE PANTS ARE SQUARE! AND THIS SPONGE IS BOB! I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOUUU!”
• Kunikida goes insane and agrees to move the two of you back together
• After finishing your paperwork like a good child, you sit next to Dazai and watch Over the Hedge on his laptop
• You’ll only listen to the parts with the verminator tho, everything else the two of you just voice over
• You listen to music together, sharing new songs and playlists. Either you or him introduce the other to Jack Stauber, bc Jack Stauber’s music is rad
• He’ll use his bandages for you to hold onto and run you around the office in your swivel chair
• You wingman for him, but on the condition that he DOESN’T try to commit a double suicide
• You guys get breakfast like, super early in the morning and eat it on the roof of the agency while watching the sun rise
• “Man, sure is a nice roof, sure would LOVE to commit a double suicide rn”
• You pull on his ear and get onto him, threatening to take away all the good noodle stars he earned
• In conclusion, y’all have a very wholesome, yet chaotic friendship. A 10 outta 10 in my book

Nakahara Chuuya X Heartbroken! Reader
(Y/N means your name, L/N means last name. This is also just the first part! Here is the second part: https://firemercyqueen.tumblr.com/post/659197494555803648/nakahara-chuuya-x-heartbroken-reader-2
Summary: You and Dazai were very close, but when he leaves, you’re left heartbroken. Did you really think Chuuya wouldn’t notice?
*A few hours before Dazai leaves...*
Y/N’s point of view:
I chuckled. “I mean, Mori might have some things to commit suicide. But, I hardly doubt he’d give anything to you. You are one of his favorite members.” I pointed out. He sighed. “You’re right. But I don’t really want anything from him..” Dazai admitted. I glanced at him. “Eh? Did something happen?” I questioned. “Nothing happened. Just... Be careful, okay?” He questioned. “Dazai being serious? This is new.” I joked. I was about to add something else, but... That look in his eyes said I shouldn’t...
I smiled. “I’m always careful. Tell me when I haven’t been.” I replied. He rose an eyebrow. “There was that one t-” He started, “Okay okay! Shush! I get it!” I cut him off. “But in all seriousness, I will be careful. If you’re the one telling me to be careful, then it’s best I listen.” I admitted. He smiled. “Thank you.” He replied.
“Could you also take care of Chibi for me? He doesn’t always listen to me, but he seems to listen to you. If I told him to be careful, you know he’d instantly do something dangerous.” He requested. “Of course!” I agreed. “Oh, speaking of which, aren’ t you going to the bar tomorrow?” I asked, “I don’t think I’m going to. I have some work to do.” He lied.
“Ah, okay! Let me know if you want to go! I’m probably going to go tomorrow as I have nothing better to do.” I explained. He chuckled. “Are you going to get wine again?” He asked, “Yes! What else do you think I’m going to get?” I asked, “I’m not sure. But you’re like Chibi! Completely obsessed with wine.” He muttered.
“Hey, that’s because wine is good!” I defended. “Mhm, sure it is.” He replied sarcastically. He gently placed his hand on my head and messed up my hair. “Oi! Do not mess up my hair! It already gets messed up enough!” I exclaimed. He laughed. “Oh, I’m sorry. Your hair just needed a bit of fixing.” He joked. “Shut up!” I groaned.
*Time skip...*
“W-What? What do you mean? Dazai should be at home!” I whispered. “He isn’t, L/N. I was hoping you’d know where he went...” Akutagawa muttered. “I-I’m sorry... I don’t. He didn’t seem to go anywhere other than home...” I whispered. He sighed. “Thank you, L/N. But I got to look for him.” Akutagawa concluded, as he bowed.
“Wait! Let me look with you.” I begged. “I’m sorry, but I don’t want to work with someone else.” He dismissed. “Wait!” I tried to stall. But Akutagawa was already walking away. I sighed in frustration. “Fuck!” I exclaimed as I stepped back into my apartment. “Why the fuck would he go somewhere...? He said he was going to be there... Unless...” I whispered.
‘Just... Be careful, okay..?’
I froze. “He didn’t leave The Port Mafia, did he...?” I whispered. “I know he didn’t like Mori, but...” I whispered. “He wouldn’t leave me, right...?” I whispered as I closed the door. I rushed towards my bedroom and opened the door. I rushed towards my phone and quickly sent off some texts.
(Y for Y/N, C for Chuuya)
Y: Dazai, where the hell are you? People are looking everywhere for you!
Y: Please, just answer. Some things are missing from your apartment, like essentials. So please, please at least tell me what’s going on.
Y: You wouldn’t leave me, right...?
I stopped texting him, as I got a text from Chuuya. I taped on the conversation, which revealed the familiar conversations we’ve had in the past, along with the new ones.
C: Hey, do you know where Dazai is? He isn’t in his apartment, nor is he in any of the places he normally goes to. I was hoping you’d know where he is, as he has some paperwork to finish. I can’t be doing everything for him, you know?
Y: I’m sorry... I don’t know where he is... Akutagawa came to my door a few minutes ago asking me where he is.
Y: Where’s Oda? Normally he’s with Oda, or possibly Ango. They were the other people Dazai talked to.
C: ....
C: You didn’t hear...?
Y: Hear what?
C:..I’m sorry to be the one to say this, but earlier today, Oda was killed... And Ango, he’s betrayed the Mafia. Did Dazai not tell you that?
Y:..What...? You’re joking, right? I just saw Oda earlier today!
C: I’m not...
C: I thought you’d know, as it spread through pretty quickly...
C: Are you there?
C: Hey, Y/N! Pick up the phone.
C: Y/N?
C: Hellooo?
C: I’m coming over.
I stood up and rushed towards my computer. I pulled up a new email and quickly sent something over to Mori. “There’s no way... how could Oda die...? He has kids! He wouldn’t do something too stupid! And Ango... He always seemed to work... Was all that a lie? Or did he just get sick of it?” I muttered aloud.
‘Just... Be careful, okay..?’
I clenched my fists. “He knows something... But why wouldn’t he tell me? I work in the same organization as he did... So... he would’ve told me, right? I mean something to him, don’t I?” I muttered aloud. I heard the bedroom door swing open, which caused me to jump. I glanced in the direction and saw Chuuya standing there.
“Y/N, why didn’t you respond??” Chuuya asked quickly. “I-I’m sorry... I didn’t... I didn’t think about that.” I muttered. He sighed. “You don’t think Dazai would leave, right...?” I whispered. He opened his mouth before closing it. “I think you need to rest. You’re clearly not doing okay.” he whispered as he walked over to me.
“You know something too, don’t you?” I asked, “About why Dazai isn’t around.” I added. He took a breath. “Y/N, I saw him. He explained, but I don’t think you’re in the right mindset t-” He tried to say. But I stood up. “I don’t care.” I spoke bluntly. “I want to know why he left.” I spoke clearly. “I-How about you sit down first? It might b-” He tried to speak.
“No.” I interrupted. “I want to know what’s so important, that he left me and everyone else with no explanation.” I explained. Silence took over for a moment. “Mori... He got Oda killed. He was told he’d get an oracle if someone could take down this organization. Mori knew they both had the same ability, so he chose Oda. But Oda wouldn’t fire for no reason, so Mori got him mad. That... Leader... Killed all of Oda’s kids, and he couldn’t save them. So... In the end, Oda died because of Mori.” Chuuya whispered.
“Oda said something to Dazai. He didn’t tell me what Oda said, but it made Dazai want to leave the Port Mafia. So that’s what he’s doing.” Chuuya explained. I growled and slammed my fist on the table. “Why the hell would he not tell me though!? We’ve been friends for so fucking long now!” I exclaimed.
“All he said was to be careful.” I whispered. “Okay, I think we need to calm down...” Chuuya whispered as he placed his hands on my shoulder. “Did that whole friendship mean nothing to him?” I questioned gently. I felt tears form in my eyes.
“Hey, no. It meant something to him. That’s why he didn’t bring you along. He doesn’t want you hurt, Y/N...” Chuuya whispered as he gently pulled me back. He turned me around and brought me into a hug. “Safe? Please! Being in the Mafia is still dangerous! Especially if Mori doesn’t care about his members...” I pointed out.
Chuuya didn’t respond. Instead, he brought me down to the floor and cradled me. “Even if that’s the case, I’ll protect you. I’m not going anywhere, Y/N.” He whispered. “I’m always here for you.” He added.
(Okay! There’s a small start to a new thing I’m doing. This is basically just some prologue before the next chapter. I don’t think this is going to be a full series, but I don’t know- I didn’t even expect to split this up into different parts, but it’s happening anyway. I hope you enjoy this new thing! Thank you for reading!)

7 for Dazai 💖 I absolutely adored your last one!
Of course! And thank you so much!!! Sorry if you don’t like country 😔 I’m from Texas so I listen to a little bit of it! In fact, I went to a graduation party a couple of weeks ago and this song started playing but I was so shitfaced drunk and started dancing on the dance floor by myself LMAO!!!
This was a struggle but I hope you enjoy!
DRINKING PROBLEM
“One more night, one more down”
“One more, one more round”
“First one in, last one out”
“Giving this town lots to talk about”
“But they don't know, what they don't know”
Dazai first met you at the bar he would regularly visit when he wanted to meet with Odasaku and Ango. You were sitting by yourself in the Corner sipping on an old fashion on the rocks as you scrolled through your phone. You looked tired and exhausted. It had been raining outside so a bit of water dripped from your hair onto your coat. In one glance he marked you down as absolutely stunning. He sat down in his usual spot and ordered his usual drink before looking at the clock on the wall. He had some time to kill before he assumed oda and ango would be here so he decided To try and strike a conversation with you.
“Maaan it’s been raining a lot recently wouldn’t you say?” Dazai twisted in his chair so he was leaning against the bar counter as he directed his attention towards you.
“Huh? Oh yeah i guess it has been” you looked up at him and smiled before shutting your phone off and setting it on the table. “love the rain as much as the next person but it sure is a pain having to walk around half drenched in water” you took a sip of your drink before shrugging off your coat.
“I haven’t seen you around here before, what brings you here tonight lovely?” Dazai leaned his head against his hand as the bar tender brought him his drink.
“Ah, I’m a college student here. Somtimes school and work gets to be a tad much, I like to have a drink or two once in a while” you swirled your drink around in a circle before setting it back down. “What about you?”
“Just meeting with a few friends. We come here often. Just some co-workers being drinking buddies” he smiled at you and you couldn’t help a blush creep onto your cheeks. “Why are you here by yourself? Yokohama can get quite dangerous at night”
“I don’t have many friends I have to admit. I’m so busy with work and school I rarely get to spend time with them. And even if I do have time, I usually spend it at home because I’m too tired” You signed and pulled out your laptop from your bag. Tonight unfortunately wasn’t a day off.
“People say I've got a drinkin' problem”
“That ain't no reason to stop”
“People sayin' that I've hit rock bottom”
“Just 'cause I'm living on the rocks”
“Not many friends?!” Dazai dramatically threw his hand over his heart and head. “How could a beautiful lady such as yourself not have many friends? Perhaps a Boyfriend? Surly you have a boyfriend” he was sitting at the end of his chair awaiting your answer.
You stopped in the midst of typing in the password to your laptop before covering a giggle with your shirt sleeve. “I’m sorry, I don’t have a boyfriend either unfortunately” Dazai swore he felt his heart skip a beat. “Well your in luck!! I dazai Osaka shall be-“
“Quit bothering that lady dazai” you both heard odasaku walk into the bar and dazai instantly slumped onto the counter muttering something about him ruining his moment
“Oh! He wasn’t bothering me!” You waved odasaku off in a friendly manner before going back to typing. “He was keeping me good company. And now that I know his name I can thank him properly” you gave dazai a friendly smile before thanking him
That’s right. Dazai didn’t even know your name. “What is your name by the way? I don’t think I ever asked?” And you told him. He repeated it to himself in a dreamy state before getting back up from the counter and striding over to you. He grabbed your hand and placed a soft kiss into the back of it before looking back up into your eyes.
“Now that I may continue, I dazai osamu, will here on out be your friend”
And he did. Shortly after his little declaration of friendship, he introduced you to odasaku and ango, who came in shortly after oda. And you quickly became comfortable with them. They did end up telling you what they all did for work. But strangely enough you didn’t really mind. You could never judge someone on what they did for work considering the things you’ve had to do a couple of times. So as you continued to work on college assignments, they talked about how their days went. Somtimes they’d ask you about yours but you would just tell them that they were far more interesting than you.
And this became sort of a regular thing. You exchanged numbers with all 3 of them in case they’d ever like you to join them again. So when the night ended and you started packing your things up. Dazai excuses himself to walk you Home.
“Oh dazai-san it’s fine really! I can handle myself!” You exclaimed as you stood at the top of the staircase “I’m alright really !”
He ended up walking you home anyways.
———————————————
Odasaku, Ango, And dazai did occasionally call you up to have a drink with them. You were more than happy to join them since they genuinely felt like good company. But more than once they would run into you while you were there. Today was one of those nights as dazai sat next to you while you did school work.
“Oh hey, I didn’t know you guys were coming tonight.” Dazai looked at your tired eyes as they were glued to the screen. Only sparing a glance when he sat down. “I’m just finishing up an essay due at the end of the week and my apartment is too quiet for my liking”
“It’s just me tonight.” He replied casually before waving down the bartender. He looked over and saw you had a couple of beers yourself. He noticed you tend to drink a lot when you came here. “ how’s your classes been?”
“Exhausting. I’ve never been more tired in my life. I just know this will all be worth it when I’m finally done” You let out a yawn before ordering another beer. But before you could continue typing, dazai had grabbed your wrist to stop you. You looked over at him and gave him a sympathetic smile “I’m sorry dazai-San but I really need to finish this up”
“Why don’t you take a break? You look like your fixing to pass out from exhaustion” he laughed before releasing your hand and sliding your laptop in front of him. You tried to get it back but dazai kept pulling it out of your grasp. You eventually gave up and both you and dazai spent the night drinking and talking. When you tried to get your laptop back so you could go home, he took it with him. “I’ll finish this up for you in no time! It can’t be that hard right?”
It was. In fact he just ended up having odasaku write most of the conclusion. He dropped your laptop off one morning at your apartment with a note on top stating he finished it for you so you could go to school. You texted him after your class and asked him if he’d be at bar lupin tonight. He immediately texted you back saying it was a regular night with Oda And Ango. You replied saying you’d drop by tonight if that was okay. They didn’t mind.
———————————————
“Do you like her? Don’t hide it we can tell” Odasaku said as him and Ango sat on either side of dazai. “Odasaku who wouldn’t? She’s pretty, smart, and she’s just great company in general! Who wouldn’t like her?” Dazai said in a exasperated motion. Ango only raised his eyebrow and smirked before taking a drink from his glass. “That’s not what I meant-“
“Dazai-San!!!” You shouted on top of the staircase prompting the three men sitting at the bar to turn around. You dashed as fast as you could down the steps and threw yourself onto dazai in a bone crushing hug. “My professor said that was the best essay out of the entire class!! I can’t thank you enough for what you did for me!!”
“ it was nothing! In fact I didn’t really do much-“ Dazai looked over at odasaku only for him to put a finger up to his lips telling dazai to be quiet. He would let him have this moment to himself. Though, he did appreciate the fact that his writing was good. “Maybe you could stay and have a drink with us to celebrate. You definitely deserve it” Dazai said as he hugged you back. “Of course! You said as you sat next to oda and ordered a drink.
You all spent the night drinking and laughing with each other. They toasted you for work done well and you couldn’t help but thank each of them even if they didn’t do much. Eventually the alcohol caught up to you and before you knew it you were pretty drunk.
“It's a broken hearted thinkin' problem”
“So pull another bottle off the wall”
“People say I got a drinkin' problem”
“But I got no problem drinkin' at all”
“Odasakuuuuu dance with me” you slurred as you got up from your chair and grabbed his hand to try and get him up. He shrugged and stood up in front of you grabbing your waist. You smiled and laughed before leading him in a slow dance. He laughed at you every time you stumbled, and every time you accidentally stepped on his shoe. When the next song played you wined and asked Ango to dance with you next. That took a lot of convincing up until dazai and oda picked him up and set him in front of you. You grabbed at him and led him in a similar dance. His clammy hands were pressed against yours tightly as you continued to stumble around. He let you lead because he couldn’t dance to save his life.
“I can’t dance I’m sorry” Ango said as he sat back down in his chair. As You, dazai, and oda laughed as you went and hugged dazai from behind his chair. “Care to dance with me dazai-San?” You whispered in his ear. “With pleasure belladonna” he smiled back at you and grabbed your waist. That’s when the music changed to something more melancholy. You leaned your head against his chest as he led you into yet another slow dance. Your head felt like it was spinning and your body felt too heavy for your feet. Dazai smiled and pulled you closer to his chest.
“I really can’t thank you enough, I haven’t had this much fun in a long time” you whispered into his chest. “Of course, you looked like you needed a break”. Odasaku and Ango quietly excused themselves outside as you two continued to dance. You looked up at dazai with half lidded eyes and he felt himself get lost in them. The bar light shone in your hair and outlined the beauty of your face. He couldn’t help but lean in and give you a small kiss. Which you gladly accepted.
It felt nice to finally get away from the troubles of life and spend time with good friends. You stayed like that for a minute before pulling back and giving him a side smile. You wish it would never end. Even as you continued to dance the night away in dazais embrace.
Unfortunately, that was the last time you saw any of them again.

3. Strength
We learn some more about our outstanding team and we find that Ryoko is a strong girl... she just lifted Dazai over her shoulder with ease.
Okay Bokuto was actually very funny Ryoko found. Akaashi was a seemingly less dead inside version of Fyodor and she appreciated that greatly.
“Fukami Aoba Johsai’s captain wants to talk to you.” Higuchi said, venom lacing her words. The pinkette rolled her eyes making Akaashi giggle quietly.
“Alright blondie where are they?”
“Don’t call me blondie you hoarder.” She snapped. “Over there in the light blue t-shirt.”
“Yikes someone didn’t get their daily dose of Aku today. Nice chat boys talk soon.”
Oikawa wasn’t stupid enough to say he wasn’t nervous to talk to the pink haired girl, he’s a confident man, stupidly cocky and competitive but he knows when he needs to back down from the alpha dog. Ryoko being the Alpha dog. She was terrifying, even mad dog stared towards their team in awe. They looked friendly enough but Toru Oikawa was astute enough to figure out something was up with the Yokohama team.
Strong
Fast
Incredibly keen
He needed to know and he was going to ask each and every player on that team.
Hirotsu fiddled with his monocle and watched as the students mingled, called parents or friends and generally did their own things, the Fukurodani coach stepped beside him.
“Takeyuki Yamiji.” He says. “Your team is something.”
“Ryuro Hirotsu. Yes they are.” He smiled. “Fukurodani is quite strong too.”
“In comparison to your lot I’ll definitely take that compliment.” The man laughed. “I’m sure you know half the reason Yokohama was invited was so we could learn your plays.”
“We know.” Hirotsu said smugly.
“Then I must ask why agree? Some of us definitely aren’t near your level we were surprised you agreed to join the camp.” Yamiji wondered.
“Let’s just say our lot needs some normalcy. Our school is very much performance based they need to be good at everything they set their minds too. They can do it they are strong kids but a misstep would... uh... anger them. We don’t pressure them to be perfect in any way- we want them to do well... and they enjoy teaching others. The third years like being mentors, the second years want to show off just a little and the first years want to be seen outside of Volleyball. A training camp gives them freedom.” Ranpo interjected.
“Very well said Edogawa.” Hirotsu laughed. Yamiji nodded in understanding.
“Shiratorizawa’s coach needs to be more like you, he’s stuck in his old ways- should have seen his face when your girls weren’t managers.”
“Ugh.” Ranpo sneered. If only they all knew what the Yokohama team really was they’d change their tune.
“Ugh indeed.” Yamiji laughed. “I should go make sure Bokuto isn’t planning on kidnapping Fukami from you he looks so sad now that she’s gone over to Oikawa and their Ace.”
“Perhaps, she has that affect on people.” Hirotsu smiled. She carries a warmth about her that gets hidden by a stone like shell with cracks running through it. The warmth would be a raging fire if not held back.
All of the Yokohama team was like that- they weren’t normal the school made certain they knew that, no one at that school was. Could you even call it a school? Principal Fukuzawa wasn’t entirely pleased by the governments methods of teaching.... non of the teachers were... it’s not teaching if the kids pass out.
Speaking of Hirotsu should go with the other coaches to check on the food Ranpo will be alright alone.
“Oikawa and Iwaizumi right? Blondie sent me over.” The pinkette said lazily. She could see the side eyes of her teammates it’s not like she was going to attack anyone that only happened once and she wholeheartedly believes Twain deserved it.
“Just wanted to meet you. We’ll play against you tomorrow and since we’ll be stuck together for a while maybe become friends?” Oikawa answered. Ryoko snorted at his tone.
“If you have no intentions of being friends don’t pretend I don’t like liars. You seem like a smart guy just ask your questions.”
“Okay fine you got me what gave me away?” Oikawa laughed, genuinely laughed.
“Iwaizumi’s face.” Said Ace went to speak before noticing the quirk on her lips, she was teasing them. “But seriously what’s up milk bread.”
Oikawa spluttered, Iwaizumi snorted and all else who heard snickered quietly. Okay maybe not quietly Tendo found that comment extremely funny.
“Well I was offering a branch of friendship for volleyball note swapping but after that comment.” Oikawa huffed.
“In other words what kind of training do you all do?” Iwaizumi asked.
“Oh- you should talk to Oda and Chuuya on that stuff. I just show up and hit things.” She chuckled. It didn’t seem genuine if the Aoba Johsai players were honest. Her fiery eyes darken slightly, “Honestly we just work well together, like all of you we train each section, play and style to near perfection but again those questions are best for the Captains milk bread.”
“I’m not going to live that down now.” Oikawa grumbled.
“No way milk bread.” Iwaizumi teased. Ryoko twitched and pulled on her braid watching them with an awfully calm watchful gaze, like an animal studying something new. “Let’s let Fukami go back to her team I think her manager wants her.”
Ryoko nodded abruptly and walked back towards the dark haired man she was near attached to.
Fyodor had been watching, as had most of the Yokohama team or at least the Akutagawa’s, Ranpo, Junichiro and coach- who knows what the others were up to... Atsushi was making friends, Chuuya was grumbling to Dazai and Oda with the Karasuno and Nekoma Captains and vices. Ryoko had been with Bokuto and Akaashi but Higuchi had soured her mood (she was now as motioned before speaking with Oikawa and Iwaizumi).
Fyodor often watched, he had no reason to interact unless necessary and no one was coming over to him just yet thankfully. His pale bony fingers played with the silver band on his wrist, it wasn’t a nervous tick or anything just caution. Ryoko and Chuuya wore one too and stupidly many people just assumed they were friend (they are but that’s not the point) ship bracelets. Nope just some spectacular silver bands to keep the three of them controlled.
Purple eyes caught stark grey ones, Chuuya had been thumbing his own bracelet but had made a motion towards Ryoko with his eyes. Fyodor followed till he caught her tense shoulders. The pinkette’s head jerked quickly and only just noticeable to those who knew it was a tick she gained while trying to keep herself controlled- one Chuuya shared. Fyodor didn’t have ticks, he had intelligence and poise... he had a terrible habit to mumble not that anyone would tell him less they face the wrath of their stoic volleyball manager. Ryoko looked uncomfortable, like she wanted to itch at her skin and pull her hair, she was tugging on her braid is that close enough. Her chuckle fell through the air as Iwaizumi called Oikawa milk bread again, more mutters, then the pinkette was soon by his side again.
“Are you alright Ryo?”
“Fine. You? You’re playing with the band again.”
“You noticed?”
“Chuuya is too.” She said pointedly. “I hate wearing it.” She muttered.
“Alright Burnabitch how about we go get dinner.” Fyodor raised a thin brow waiting for the pinkette to get his joke.
“Oh fuck you Rat Bastard it was one time and Kaji deserved it.” She snorted pushing him out the door.
Sakusa watched too, less sternly than Fyodor but definitely more than Atsumu and Osamu were. The trio was off to the side, Atsumu searching for his favourite short ginger (Hinata where are you?).
“You think those two are together?” They heard Lev ask. Yaku hummed in response watching the two Yokohama students walk towards the cafeteria.
“They most certainly aren’t.” Akutagawa scoffed.
“Sound jealous.” Dazai snickered.
“Am not.”
“Are too.”
“Am not Dazai.”
“Are too Akuuu!”
“Is the Yokohama team normally this... chaotic? Their energy off the court is so different to their energy on.” Sakusa grumbled.
“It’s like they get to act like kids off the court or something. They aren’t getting in trouble so maybe it’s normal.” Osamu shrugged.
“Maybe. They just were so scary when we played against them.” Atsumu shivered. “Especially their setter... pretty sure he was going to set dunk my face.”
“You were flirting with the female middle blocker.” Sakusa droned.
“HE DID WHAT!”
“That’s you’re cue to run!” Oda yelled gripping what he could of Akutagawa with the arm that wasn’t in a sling.
“Running!”
The evening seemed to go by stagnantly. Everything moving either slowly or too quick bouncing from person to person.
Dinner was nice, sushi and soft drink with some fried chicken if anyone wanted some. Desert was some ice-cream. Pretty simple thankfully. Now everyone was in their designated rooms chatting and messing around until lights out
Atsushi and Tanizaki were bumbling around chatting quietly, Hinata attempted to join but to no avail the two apologised saying their coach sent them a message and ran off. The poor small ginger he was so confused.
“Uh it’s basically bed time man?” Tanaka said as Akutagawa stood to leave.
“Not for me. Good night.”
And with that the door was slammed.
Again the evening felt odd.
“Gin? Ryoko? Higuchi? Where did they go?” Yachi wondered noticing the three empty beds. With hands on her hips she sticks her head out the door but either girl were in sight. “Have any of you seen them?”
“Not since showers.” Kiyoko answered. The girls brows furrowed- where did they go?
“Dazai you can’t go to bed yet.” Oda sighed.
“But I’m tired.”
“No you aren’t dumbass.” Chuuya kicked him.
“Hey what’s going on guys?” Kuroo and Daichi asked.
“We must go coach needs us.” Fyodor answered cryptically. A knock on the door startled everyone.
“Why does this feel like the start of something bad?” Asahi asked quietly before Sugawara whacked him on the head with a mighty negativity be gone.
“Oi Dazai get up lazy ass.”... Ryoko?
“Ryoko?” Bokuto asked with innocent confusion.
“Sup Owlking.” Ryoko grinned with her hands on her hips. “Dazai get up before I make you everyone else has headed over besides you four.”
“I’m going.” Chuuya and Oda said rushing out the door.
“Don’t wanna.” Dazai sung. Fyodor sighed, Ryoko’s eye twitched.
“Don’t say she didn’t warn you.” Fyodor said.
The third years watched as the pinkette strolled into the room slowly towards the seemingly unmovable Dazai and lifted him up.
No struggles or tugs just picked him up and threw him over her shoulder.
The third years sat gobsmacked.
“How?” Oikawa managed to get out.
“I work out.” She winked before sashaying out the door with Dazai swaying and grumbling over her shoulder. Fyodor just sighed again and followed out.
What the hell is up with that team?

Rhetorical.
This is not easy-peasy-lemon-squizzy. This is difficult-fucking-difficult.
I hate myself for the person I am because my first reaction was “that’s a drag, I don’t remember much of the manga already”. But then I remembered complex human relationships is nyom-nyom-nyom. And so fell in love with working on it more and more as I went. So here you go, @gogolparadise
Unfortunately, I am one of those people who doesn’t blame Ango for Oda’s death. My blaming scale looks more like this: Gide, Oda, Mori, everyone else. I blame Oda for Oda’s death, mostly. And there’s no denial about who shot Odasaku in the first place. But Ango isn’t blameless. He done fuck up.
I won’t write how and when Dazai sabotaged the airbag, I am sure even he wouldn’t know it either. P L O T. The scene between Ango and Dazai unfolded differently in manga and anime. And I like manga’s version better. I rarely use Japanese respectful suffixes like “san” and “kun”, but here….it’s sorta important.
✏ Fandom: Bungou Stray Dogs ✏ Characters: Dazai Osamu, Ango Sakaguchi ✏ Word count: 2,166 ✏ Warnings: none?
Rhetorical.
He couldn’t deny the fact that having a gun in his hand felt distantly pleasant. The power and control that came with the weight in his hand would add more pleasure to it. But the weapon was oddly light compared to his memories of handling one. It wasn’t loaded. A good decision: a smart and safe decision. If Dazai couldn’t trust himself, he could trust in the distrust people have for him. And no one would know that better than someone he once called a friend. The two loyal guard dogs wouldn’t be able to stop him if that’s what he wanted. The resting blade against his neck only sharpened that tiny thrill coursing through his veins. It was bringing up old memories of having his life on the line every other day. The sound of raining shots, the lightning bolt shine of it, the heat of the muzzle afterwards. And the lingering smell of gunpowder. Unloading the gun was the smartest decision his once-friend had ever made. Because Dazai also couldn’t deny the fact that when it was aimed at the back of Ango’s head, it felt invigorating.
“What on earth made you think…” Dazai asked calmly. “…that I had forgiven you?” He didn’t regret asking. The question didn’t need to be answered. There was no need to have a conversation about that part of history. After all, there was too much to forgive, and Dazai didn’t even start on it. But asking had to clearly state where they stand.
“I was the one who cleaned your record when you fled the Mafia. If anything, you are the one who owes me,” Ango replied, unfazed by the threat, and even sounding a little exasperated.
“Alright.” Dazai easily dropped the threat, the aim of the gun, the feeling coursing through his veins. “The gun isn’t loaded. You knew I’d do that.”
A hand was offered to collect the empty weapon. “I am glad you catch on so quickly.” The man in glasses offered a calm, collected smile, with a little amusement traced in the lines of his face. Dazai would roll his eyes at this if the man wasn’t so obviously looking. Credit given where its due, Ango wasn’t slow on the uptake — always deceitfully sharp. But Dazai didn’t appreciate proximity or eye-contact. Least of all he wanted to grow an appreciation for Ango’s quick thinking, stoic and neutral approach, and overall efficiency. He remembered the man from the past too vividly, and separating those images was harder than it should have been. Liar. Traitor.
“If we are not rekindling our old friendship,” Sakaguchi spoke again, more hesitantly this time. “…What do you want?”
How eloquent and bold it was to say that there was something to rekindle between them. When a torch goes out, you look for a fire to light it again. You don’t wet the cloth and chop up the wooden stick. And you sure do not let the torch burn to ashes. If so, there was nothing to rekindle.
With his back to Ango, Dazai allowed himself to smile. The half-masks he knew how to transform and switch seamlessly. His goals were for him to know. Ango would find out soon enough. The bandaged man shifted his smile into a childish grin. “Oooh…” He patted the roof of the car. “You government men drive fine cars, eh?”
The government man graced him with an unamused stare. A sharp look of a man who didn’t want his car touched in such manner. Pity, really, that should be the least of his worries. Government men drive fine cars, but there are many fine cars in this world.
Ex-Mafia rested his elbow on the car if only to gauge a reaction out of the man he once made a mistake to call friend. “Care to go for a drive?” Dazai didn’t regret asking. The question didn’t need to be answered.
Fine cars indeed… For what those government men got those fancy cars Dazai could only guess. “It’s your job to keep those skill-oriented crimes in check, isn’t it? You mustn’t shirk your duty like that.” He spoke leisurely, enjoying, savouring. There was something sickeningly amusing in the ease of the situation. The tension that was visibly lacking in the air. Ango’s safe driving befitting of a good citizen. The calm Dazai couldn’t help but feel. He almost felt guilty about it, too. The calm that comes with the knowledge of what’s to come. And yet, by all canons of the world, it should not be as easy as breathing.
“We have been keeping tabs on the Guild as well,” Ango finally gave a reply fitting for a government man. A limited, careful answer.
Dazai’s interest was piqued by the narrowness of such words. “You knew…and you simply let them be? Do I have that right?” He knew he did. The question didn’t need to be answered. But he didn’t regret asking, he savoured it without guilt.
“Unlike you, Dazai-kun, I believe in an honest day’s work,” Sakaguchi answered evenly, never taking his eyes off the road. “Do you even know what kind of kind of group the Guild is?”
Dazai could guess that this feeling inside him was glee. There was nothing compared to the feeling of knowing and seeing through the deceit of others even if that deceit was a delusion for one’s self. He cared little for the games the government played, he just despised them. He cared not for the power the Guild possessed, he just wanted to beat it.
“Oh my, wait a moment,” the bandaged man said. “This discussion is taking a strange turn.”
“This is politics, Dazai-kun.”
That’s an exceptionally fine carpet word for lies, deception, manipulation, power play and the like. Perhaps, it was a matter of perception, the things one believes in. If perception can stop you from seeing the world upside-down, if it can grant you the vividness of colours and appreciation for abstract, then it surely must be able to install a belief in the greater good.
“…to grant immunity to their members…”
Like Ango believing in an honest day’s work. Or Atsushi believing in his own worthlessness or that saving people will justify his existence. Like Kunikida upholding his ideals stronger than any other man alive.
“…truly, above the law…”
Perhaps, it was all about the installed moral compass within a person. The lines one draws to walk a straight path. Those constructed margins of morality that should never be crossed lest the world changes its meaning or loses it completely. Dazai’s compass had been broken for the longest time, he could admit that much. There were too many bold strokes beyond the margins: crosses, stains, incomprehensible lines made in indifference and irresponsibility.
“…they’re surveilling our little conference even now…”
But, truly, how morally superior is the government handling the bizarre world of skill-users compared to the Mafia? He couldn’t be the one to judge and tell. He couldn’t understand.
“Dazai-kun, start running away. Now.” The urgency in Ango’s voice brought him back to the oncoming reality. Whatever emotions were hidden behind the glasses, Dazai couldn’t press into his memory. The mind was too preoccupied. He pressed back into the seat — a response of his body to the upcoming and unavoidable danger. The thought of dying had never once scared him, but pain, broken bones, and the like — loathed.
“Run, and tell your agents that danger will find them soon —” It didn’t matter what the answer was. There was no need for it.
If there were indeed parallel worlds — an infinite number of possibilities of the current one — then it could be different. In another world, perhaps, it could be different. They could have never met and, thus, never had their past shared. Two perfect strangers to each other — two parallels never meeting. In a different world where the events unfolded differently, where they still met, became friends and met in a bar with, preferably, a similar menu. In a world where he didn’t die, they could remain forever as they were back then. Dazai would feed them his terrible tofu and talks about suicide. They could eat and drink together while sharing nonsensical stories. There would be no guilt or regret. But that would have to be a different world.
In this world, Sakaguchi Ango, a government agent, successfully infiltrated Port Mafia and then Mimic. In this world, Sakaguchi survived in the Mafia and climbed the ranks. In this world, he had successfully pretended to be a friend to Dazai Osamu, youngest Executive in history, and Sakunosuke Oda, the lowest of the ranks. He done so not out of necessity but because he could. In this world, Sakunosuke Oda was dead, killed in confrontation with Mimic. Ango’s betrayal of the Mafia didn’t matter in the least. After all, Dazai had done so too: even he wasn’t such a hypocrite. In this world what mattered was the death of a man who didn’t get to write his novel. In this world, Dazai Osamu wasn’t a better man to forgive. In this world, ex-Mafia held grudges despite knowing the regret of another.
If he were in a different world and was a different human being, he would understand the necessity for the flowers when visiting a hospital. But he wasn’t, and he didn’t really understand it. Nonetheless, he had done it. A man who believes in honest day’s work deserved that much, at least.
“Why, hello there, Ango!” Dazai’s chirpy voice carried through the ward. “How are you doing?” With a bouquet and a basket of consumable goods as visiting protocol dictates. And a bright friendly smile, of course. “Well, you look lovely,” Dazai lied effortlessly, seamlessly. He had done so not out of necessity but because he could. “I have a fine story for you!”
It was in the very same bar where the three of them met that he witnessed it: regret. Sakaguchi Ango, a government agent who infiltrated Port Mafia and climbed the ranks, expressed regret. Perhaps, that alone was the thing that steadied the Executive’s hand. That, and Odasaku’s presence. Unfortunately, there was no more Odasaku to steady the bandaged Executive’s hand. Only the words of a friend now gone to guide this ex-mafioso.
It was much later that Dazai truly saw the guilt behind the round glasses. It’s much easier to recognize guilt in others when experienced. He couldn’t tell if it was cleverly hidden from others or if Ango had hid from himself.
“Thirty-five count murderer?” the bedbound man asked, unsurprised. Dazai was a visitor but he sure wasn’t a good one after eating from the basket. According to him, that’s what he planned. According to everyone else who could be in the room to pass judgement: selfish, inconsiderate, and even mocking. He didn’t do it out of necessity but because he could.
“Murder is murder,” Sakaguchi stated simply. Dazai remained a patient listener despite how easy it would be to probe at wounds unhealed, to uncap the bottled regret, to stir their shared but erased past. He knew full well what murder was. So did Ango. But the thing about murder and death is that it often was accompanied with guilt. And guilt was a disobedient spirit: it didn’t follow you because you murdered, it followed because it could. For all that Ango did, for all the lies and treacherous moves, Dazai knew one thing for sure: in the moment it mattered most he had nothing to offer Odasaku to cling to. In that vital moment all he could offer were pitiful words that wouldn’t even convince a child. If he had to live with the guilt of it, he would.
“…if you seek other help…I’d be glad to do that.”
“Is that so?” Dazai asked, getting up from the chair. That was all he needed to hear. The task was accomplished. “Well, I’ll be back.”
“Dazai-kun.”
That stalled him at the doorway.
“I am accepting your offer of treatment in exchange for support. So just tell me one more thing.” Sakaguchi Ango was deceptively sharp as ever and just as calm. “When we were struck by that mystery vehicle, the airbag on my side alone failed to inflate. Would you happen to know the reason?”
Just as Ango doesn’t put his regret and guilt out on display, Dazai, too, had trick to hide his darkness. If guilt was a disobedient spirit, then darkness was a parasite set on self-destruction.
Oh, he hoped to make his once-friend regret the question. For it would be easy to hide the smile with his back to Ango. It would be equally as easy to switch one smile for another. But there was no need for that. Whatever it was he hid, the other would soon find out. Dazai allowed himself to smile with sincere darkness of his mind and offer it to the man who betrayed him. There was no need for an answer.

I read your "Oh so" "NICE" post and the vibe of it was so strongly similar to sarcastic posts that don't like what they're talking about that I was expecting something not good, and then had to blink and re-read until it sunk in that you were talking about how Oda and Dazai met which has to be actual good news, but I have to ask, is that really happening? You're excited about this right??? 😅
Lmao I forgot how hard it is to indicate tone through text T-T
I am very excited! I've always wanted to know how Dazai and Oda met and became friends! They're my favourite friendship in BSD so getting to see more interaction between them is always a bonus for me!! I just said "oh" because I thought it would be about how Mori met Dazai (which is something I want to learn too) but was pleasantly surprised to see it was about Oda!

I’m not a Dancer Unless I’m Dancing With You
A/N: Okay so I honestly don’t know where this one-shot came from, but here you go. This is a high school AU with Attaka and Atsushi as the main pairing. Everyone is around the same age. Attaka, Kyouka, Kenji are sophomores, Atsushi, Danielle, Dazai, Oda, and Ango are juniors, Nina and Chuuya are seniors, and Akutagawa, Akkata, Gin, and Abi are all juniors. Enjoy!
“I don’t know about this Danielle,” Attaka whispered as she sat on the bed of her friend Danielle Osa. “Come on Attaka it’ll be fun, there’ll be dancing, good food, good-er friends, and who knows, Atsushi might be there.” Danielle listed. Attaka flushed at the mention of the beige-haired teen. Attaka has had a crush on Atsushi for years now, he was her best friend, the one she could come to if she had a problem, and vice versa. Attaka didn’t want to ruin her friendship with Atsushi so she kept her feelings to herself, but they were growing stronger everyday and she didn’t know how much longer she could keep them hidden. “That’s exactly why I don’t think I should go,” Attaka said her gaze focused on her shoes.
“What do you mean? That’s exactly why you should go.” Danielle urged. Turning around she crossed the room to her bed and sat down adjacent from Attaka. “Attaka, I can see how in love you are with him why won’t you give this a chance?” Danielle asked Attaka looked up shyly “I can’t ruin this friendship with him. Danielle, he’s the most important person in my life if I lose him because I can’t control my feelings I’ll never forgive myself.” Attaka said her head hung low. Danielle placed her hand on Attaka’s shoulder “Attaka, you have to at least give it a shot. You don’t know if he feels that way for you, and there’s a big chance that he might, you just have to take a leap of faith. If I had your thought process before I confessed to Dazai, Oda, and Ango I wouldn’t have three amazing lovers right now.” Danielle said. Attaka looked up at that, she had to admit Danielle had a point. When she confessed to Dazai, Oda, and Ango, if they didn’t like her back, or if they hadn’t wanted to be in a polygamous relationship, she ran the risk of losing all three of them and not just one, luckily she didn’t lose any one of them.
Attaka looked up at Danielle the older girl’s rose eyes shining giving Attaka the strength to utter her next words. “Okay, I’ll go to the dance,” She said Danielle shot up and squealed in excitement she grabbed Attaka’s hands and the two jumped up and down in excitement. “We have to find a dress! The dance is on Saturday night and that’s the day after tomorrow, and you need a dress, shoes, makeup, all the works. We have to go right now!” Danielle grabbed Attaka’s hands and started to drag her out of the room, but the voice of Danielle’s mother, Kari, stopped them in their tracks. “Girls, Attaka’s parents are here to pick her up!” Kari called. “Or, we can go tomorrow,” Danielle muttered Attaka smiled and hugged Danielle. “I’ll see you tomorrow Danielle,” She said. Danielle hugged back and stood out of the way as Attaka picked up her bag, and ran down the stairs, saying a quick goodbye to Kari on her way out. Attaka ran out to her parents’ car and got in, she waved to Danielle as they drove away.
The next day flew by fast for Attaka she floated through most of her classes most of her thoughts on Atsushi. Soon it was time to go home, and she met Danielle outside of the school for them to go shopping. That day Danielle had driven her Fiat 500 car to school so she could drive herself and Attaka to the nearest dress shop. “You ready to go?” Danielle asked, “Yeah, Oda, Dazai, and Ango don’t mind you going shopping with me today do they?” Attaka asked, hoping she didn’t pull Danielle away from her lovers. “Of course not, they still needed to get their tuxes ready so this was a good thing for them,” Danielle said, “Okay” Attaka muttered. Soon the two were at a dress shop that was a common hang out for most of the people she knew when there was a dance or formal event happening.
Danielle and Attaka split up to find the perfect dress for her, Danielle already had her dress picked out. They were searching for an hour before they each found a dress for Attaka to wear. “Ah, they’re both cute. Just try on both” Danielle said. She handed both dresses to Attaka, who scurried to the nearest dressing room. A few minutes later Attaka came out in the first dress it was pastel pink, the top was pink and glittery, and the bottom was made of a mesh of the same color, it stopped just above her knees. “That one looks cute on you, but try the other one on just to make sure,” Danielle said. Attaka followed her directions, and went back into the dressing room, she came out again a short time later in the second dress. The top was a glittery silver drawn into floral patterns, the skirt flared out, and it stopped just above her knees. “I think I like the first one better,” Attaka said Danielle nodded in agreement “Yeah, it matches your skin tone better, go put your clothes back on and we’ll buy this one. Shoes are next” Danielle said Attaka nodded and went back into the dressing room.
The two paid for the dress and moved on to the nearest shoe store. After searching for a few minutes they found a pair of shoes in Attaka’s size. They were a silver sandal, with a small heel, there were fake rhinestones on the fabric on the top part of the shoe. Attaka picked up the shoe, and tried it on “I like these shoes” She said “Okay, let’s look around some more to see if we can find any more before we settle on those” Danielle said. They looked around, but there weren’t any shoes that caught Attaka’s attention. The two paid for the shoes, and left the store they stopped for dinner before Danielle dropped Attaka off at home. “Meet me at my house tomorrow Attaka!” She called, “Okay!” Attaka said as she walked into her house.
The next day Attaka met Danielle at the older girl’s house, and the two began to get ready for the dance. Danielle helped Attaka do her makeup, all she wanted was some lip gloss and a little eye shadow. Until now Attaka hadn’t seen Danielle’s dress it was a forest green knee-length dress, there was a bow sewed on in the front, and black floral patterns on the skirt of the dress. On her feet were black T-strap evening shoes with crystal flowers on the toes. Attaka’s hair was curled in waves and fell elegantly against her shoulders. Danielle’s hair was done up in a bun, she even had flower clips in her hair. “You look beautiful Danielle-chan” Attaka complemented. “Thanks, Attaka, you look beautiful too. Mom, we’re ready to go!” Danielle said as she grabbed Attaka’s hand. The two carefully made their way down the stairs and greeted Kari at the door.
Kari drove the two girls to the school “I’ll pick you both up at 9:00 okay?” Kari asked Danielle nodded “Okay mom is it okay if Ango, Dazai, and Oda spend the night tonight?” Danielle requested. Kari thought about it for a second before nodding “Okay, but all I ask is that you three keep it down and use condoms” Kari teased. Danielle and Attaka’s faces hazed “Mom!” Danielle whined “What? I’ll be back at 9:00″ Kari said before driving away. Danielle looked at Attaka “Pretend you didn’t hear that” Danielle requested Attaka nodded. The two entered the building and quickly found their way to the gym, the party-planning committee had gone all out. There were streamers strung along the ceilings, balloons littered the floors, there were colorful lights flashing, and party music playing over the speakers, there was even a DJ. Attaka felt her nerves start to kick in as she surveyed the dance floor “I don’t know about this Danielle, I don’t know why I let you talk me into this I’m not a dancer I’m a stay at home and reader” Attaka complained “Come on Attaka you have to break out of your shell at some point, look there’s Atsushi!” Danielle said pointing.
Attaka followed her finger and saw the object of her affections talking to Kyouka Izumi. He was wearing a white shirt, with a dark brown shirt over it, black dress pants, and shoes, he looked so handsome. Kyouka said something that made him smile and laugh, and Attaka wished she was over there talking to him, and making him laugh. “Well, what are you waiting for? Go over there and talk to him” Danielle urged pushing Attaka forward slightly. Attaka floundered “Wait! How will I even get to him he’s all the way across the gym, and the floor’s kind of crowded” Attaka said gesturing to the sea of bodies the gym floor had become. Danielle thought for a moment “I think I have an idea” She said. Danielle grabbed Attaka’s hand and lead her over to the refreshment table where Dazai, Oda, and Ango were standing.
“Hey, guys!” Danielle yelled over the music, all three males turned at the sound of her voice “Danielle! You made it!” Dazai cheered. He walked over to the two females, and kissed Danielle’s cheeks and forehead “We were starting to think you wouldn’t show up” Oda said as he came over, Ango following right behind him. “I wouldn’t dream of it, I said I’d be here didn’t I? Hey, I need you guys’ help” Danielle said, “What is it, Danielle?” Ango asked. “I need you guys to help me get Attaka on that side of the gym. That’s where Atsushi is” Danielle requested as she pointed to the opposite side of the gym Attaka flushed “Did you have to tell them that?” She muttered. All three males nodded “How can we help Danielle?” Oda asked, “Oda I need you to get Attaka to the other side of the gym. Dazai, Ango you two are coming with me so that we can move Atsushi into a spot that’ll be easier for Oda and Attaka to get to” Danielle ordered. With that the group broke apart Oda grabbed Attaka’s hand and guided her through the mass of bodies, but somewhere along the way her grip loosened and she let go of Oda’s hand, she was now being pushed and shoved in the crowd.
Someone bumped Attaka into a strong back she started to fall, but the person she bumped into reached out and grabbed her hand, keeping her from falling. “Chuuya!” Attaka exclaimed the older ginger looked down at her “Attaka? What are you doing here?” He asked as he helped her up “Well, I-I came with Danielle, but I lost track of her. Have you seen Atsushi?” She asked “Yeah, he’s over there,” Chuuya said pointing to a clear spot in the middle of the gym a few inches from where they were standing. “Oh, thank you Chuuya. Do you think you could help me get over there?” Attaka said. Chuuya nodded and took Attaka’s hand he led her through the crowd and into the clear space with ease. “Thanks, Chuuya” Attaka whispered Chuuya smiled “You’re welcome pipsqueak,” He said ruffling her hair. Attaka grimaced at the nickname and made her way over to the small group.
“Attaka there you are!” Danielle exclaimed as she moved over to her “Yeah, sorry I worried you guys” Attaka apologized. Danielle smiled “It’s fine Attaka, hey Atsushi wants to talk to you,” Danielle said wiggling her eyebrows suggestively. Attaka blushed and looked past her at Atsushi, who smiled sheepishly at her. “We’ll be over there if you need us. Good Luck” Danielle said as she, Dazai, Oda, and Ango walked to an open spot on the gym floor. Attaka gulped and walked over to Atsushi “Hey, Atsushi” She greeted Atsushi gave her that shy smile she loved so much “Hey Attaka you look beautiful tonight. I mean you always do look beautiful, but especially so tonight” Atsushi floundered his cheeks turning the most precious shade of pink. Attaka blushed “Thank you Atsushi you look handsome. Is that a new outfit?” Attaka asked Atsushi smiled “Yeah, it’s my dad’s he said I should wear it tonight” He revealed Attaka nodded.
Just then a new song came on it was a slower tempo than the others that had been playing that night. “Ah, Attaka do you want to dance?” Atsushi asked holding out his hand with a shy smile on his face Attaka blushed and placed her hand in Atsushi’s. He pulled her against him smiling down at her all the while, Attaka tilted her head back to look up at him her cheeks a rosy shade of pink. They swayed back and forth to the beat of the song Atsushi occasionally twirling her around ‘Okay, Attaka you can do this it’s just a leap of faith’ she thought with a gulp. “Hey, Atsushi?” Attaka began said male look down at her “Yes?” He asked Attaka took a small breath before looking Atsushi deeply in the eyes. “There’s a new bookstore opening not too far from here, and I was just wondering if you would like to go to the opening with me? We can go to this cafe a few blocks from the bookstore and get lunch after if you want” Attaka asked, “I-Is this a date?” Atsushi spluttered his whole face becoming red. Attaka’s face matched his “W-Well yes o-only if you want to be” Attaka backtracked her eyes on Atsushi’s face.
“I-I’d like that Attaka. When do you want to go?” Atsushi asked, “Well the bookstore opens in a week so how about next Saturday?” Attaka suggested. Atsushi smiled and nodded “I can work with that,” He said Attaka smiled and leaned her head against his chest, as the two swayed back and forth to the beat of the music.

My Choices:
Blue Exorcist
Bungou Stray Dogs
Fruits Basket
Durarara!
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
who’s your favourite character from 1?
I love Rin sm
But Shima’s also pretty fun, what’s not to love about a bastard?
who’s your least favourite character in 2?
Akutagawa is a lil bitch.
what’s your favourite episode of 4?
I’ve only watched half of season 1 so far, but probably ep. 11. Seeing all the pieces fall into place, as things just keep building up and up, it’s really cool, and super high energy, and just hoowwwaaghhdffdjjk!
what’s your favourite season of 5?
Probably part 3. ragic backstory episode? Check. Oliver Mira Armstrong? Check. Unlikely friendships forming? Check. Greedling? Check. Olivier Mira Armstrong? Check. The unveiling of the Big Bad Plan? Check. Did I mention Olivier Mira-
what’s your favourite couple of 3?
Kyoru, I’m basic.
what’s your favourite couple in 2?
There aren’t any cannon couples in bsd,(unless we’re counting Dazai’s practically cannon crush on Oda) so I’m going to say my favorite ship is: ATSULUCY!!!! It’s way too underrated and I am very sad about that.
what’s your favourite episode in 1?
Episode 6. I love how passionate Rin is about cooking, I love hearing people talk about their interests and things they love, and I guess that applies to fictional people as well lmao.
what’s your favourite episode in 5?
Part 5, episode 2. A R M S T R O N G S I B L I N G S B A D A S S E R Y
what’s your favourite season in 2?
Season 2. The Guild arc is probably one of my favorites.
how long have you been watching 1?
I first watched a few episodes of it back in like 2017? I can’t remember tbh, but I went back to it last year, and now I’m caught up on the manga. Still haven’t watched Kyoto Saga or the movie yet :(
how did you get into 3?
One of my friends convinced me to watch it when the 2019 reboot came out, and I fell head over heels for it.
favourite actor in 4?
I don’t really pay attention to voice actors whoo boy
But, I guess Bryce Papenbrook, who plays Masaomi is good.
which do you prefer? 1, 2, or 5?
I think that Bungou beats Blue Ex. out by juust a little bit. I’m really invested in bsd, and there’s so many f u n characters, and they’re all so unique and interesting and dynamic, they really make it so fun to watch/read.
which show have you seen more of, 1 or 3?
Definately Blue Ex. I’m completely caught up on the still ongoing manga, and have watched all of season one, while I’ve only seen season 1 of 2019 Fruits Basket, and read up to where the show is in the manga.
if you could be anyone from 4, who would you be?
Honestly, I’d just want to be a member of the Dollars. But, I can also I could see it being a lot of fun getting to ride motorcycle like Celty does.
would a crossover of 3 and 4 work?
Well, considering Fruits Basket is a romance and drama shojo, and Durarara! is a crime, supernatural, and action Shounen, not really. But I can see Izaya having a GREAT time with Shigure and Akito. 3 shady bastards in one room, what war crimes will they commit?
pair two characters in 1 who would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple?
Y’know? I think that Yukio and Shima might not actually be all that bad. Shima’s lax and carefree, and Yukio’s uptight and serious, I feel that they would balance each other out, Shima would remind Yukio to take fucking break for once, and Yukio would help Shima make sure he actually gets some work done. Also, they’re both kinda the same in that they’re both not quite who they seem to everyone, they’re not as “good” or “nice” as everyone thinks they are, so I feel that they could both just be their true selves with each other.
overall, which show has the better storyline, 3 or 5?
This one’s kind of hard for me to judge, since I’ve finished FMA:B, and have seen only a small part of the FB story. But from what I have so far, FMA:B is reallly good. It’s got a really good plot with really good pacing, that keeps you super invested, and makes you end up watching 4 seasons in two days.
which has better theme music, 2 or 4?
Trash Candy is a fucking BOP Bungou all the way here.
