Family Secrets: Part 7

Hey ya know how in canon Donnie yoinked that magic crystal from Draxum's place and used it in his goggles to be able to see mystic energy? Yeah so he never got that crystal in the AU, if you remember. Instead, Donnie unlocking Ninpō way earlier in the AU is what allows him to see mystic energy. He can't summon an arsenal of weapons yet, however! He may gain access to magic much quicker than in canon, but his progress with it is gonna be a lot slower, for now he only has the mystic sight.

I'm gonna make another post soon where I'll explain a bit more in details how I imagine Donnie's Ninpō evolves throughout the story (kinda long overdue ngl lol)

As for the whole Shelldon being mystic thing uh... well so I've had this headcanon for a while now (and I've seen other people share it!!) that the reason why Shelldon acts so much like an actual person isn't just because of Donnie's skills with programming. Basically, he subconciously used a little bit of mystic powers while creating him and that caused Shelldon to develop what I guess you could consider a "soul". Anyway, I wanted it be canon in the AU, but that also means that Donnie is gonna notice Shelldon's mystic energy the second he looks at him using the mystic sight soooo yeah had to include that in the comic lol.

This is a serious issue we need to talk about more. Aroace characters like Senku and Saiki K are constantly misrepresented. Like yeah Saiki says something similar to “she has a nice face shape that makes her look attractive” but he wasn’t saying he was attracted to her. Literally the whole series is him trying to get away from her also just because he wants to be like that one basic dude don’t mean he wants to be with the basic dude.

With Senku he has no romantic partner. Yeah it was hinted in the anime as a joke, multiple times but that’s the point. It was referenced as a JOKE for a reason.

Also both anime’s are comedy anime’s so the main character is more likely to not get a love interest or to not be in love so the series can keep going. In most anime’s once the main character falls in love and settles down then the anime ends. Like if Luffy got a wife after he finds the one piece, or when Kaneki got married, when Tanjiro and kanao settle down.

In comedy’s they typically like to leave it on a cliff hanger. They want the audience to feel incomplete so they will gain more off the series. Yeah Senku and Kohaku kissed but it was only a misdirection and they both were genuinely grossed out by it and they looked like they were about to throw up.

Dr Stone wouldn’t end with Senku settling down with someone. That’s just not how he is. Even after he saves the whole world he’s gonna keep doing things. Making new inventions and maybe leave all his work for a successor to do the same thing he did. It’s Senku, he’s not gonna do the deed when instead he could be helping the world get back on track.

And if we’re being fr rn there is NO WAY either of them would do that. Like I’ve pictured it and all I can picture is Senku about the throw up and Saiki passing out. Maybe it’s just self projection but I’m just being fr rn.

I swear to god, there's like a perfect 50/50 split in the Arcane fandom between people who actually understand the nuances and politics of real-world drugs, and people who 100% believed the DARE propaganda and think that smoking a cigarette carries the same moral weight as shooting someone in cold blood and pissing on their corpse. It makes reading through meta and analysis incredibly goddamn tedious. I grow weary of analysis about Silco and Zaun clearly written by people who have never touched a recreational substance in their life.

To be perfectly honest, I'm not convinced the writers' room knew that much about real-world drug issues either. It's something I see crop up in media constantly, where it's so obvious the writers want to invoke the edginess and controversy of The Drug Trade without actually understanding how it works, what causes it, or who gets caught up in it. It's like their understanding starts and ends with, "drug users = bad guys who are mean to people because drugs make you Bad."

The fact that Silco is blatantly depicted as using his own supply as a way to self-medicate a disability never seems to get brought up in this goddamn fandom. "Ohhhh, he's evil and pushes drugs on everyone!" The drugs that were canonically developed for medical use, saved his life, gave his right hand a functional prosthetic after she lost her arm, and saved his daughter's life??? The drugs that are clearly filling a medical need in Zaun, which has been abandoned by the Pilties and left to rot in agony? Those drugs????????? Those ones??????????????????????

Drives me up the wall and makes me wonder what they think about real-world opioid use.

Anyway, while I'm here: Decriminalize hard drugs, implement safe usage sites, stop treating users and people in recovery as pariahs, and fight for prison abolition. ACAB, end the war on drugs, let people have bodily autonomy, stop treating drugs like an incomprehensible boogeyman, piss on Ronald Reagan's grave. Fight for robust social safety nets and universal healthcare so that people aren't forced to rely on recreational drugs for self-medication. Implement universal basic income and housing so that people aren't forced onto the streets. Feed, house, clothe, and support the citizenry.

I don't know if it was even canon or not but we seen TFONE Sparkplug, what about TFONE Nightflyer and Soundblaster? Are they sparklings living among High Guards, or maybe this time it's the other way around and Nightflyer and Slipstream are staying with Skyfire in Iacon or maybe something even different?

Okay so stay with me on this.

They WERE… sparklings living amongst the high guards. They were the children of head guard Starscream and his second in command Jetfire. Basically they were trying to see if they could raise more soldiers for their eventual battle against Sentinal.

Nightflyer was exactly what they had wanted, a strong and healthy sparkling that looked like he would grow to be as big as his sire. However on the other hand, Slipstream was small and comparatively weak. And in the “those who are strong should be in control” high guard… things would not be great for her.

I image Jet and Star probably had a lot of arguments about it, having a sparkling so weak in their hideout was extremely dangerous, however going back to Iacon would go against everything they were fighting for.

It was a split second decision but I think Jetfire took his sparklings and left for Iacon, going under the name Skyfire in an attempt to stay hidden. Needless to say, Starscream was heartbroken and utterly devastated. I think seeing that D-16 had a sparkling of his own, Starscream urged him to take her away after the final battle. One part spite due to his own problems with his partner and one part missing having a sparkling of his own to care for.

I want to expand on this a teeny bit because it is SO 100% RIGHT.

In "The Solitary Cyclist," the rich creep harrassing the woman is Holmes' entry into the mystery. He doesn't need more than that to basically be like, "Oh, it is on, bitches," and does his thing. Only to find that without his help, this woman would have been drugged so the rich creep could marry her against her will by a defrocked vicar (aka not a legal marriage in any way but the rich creep doesn't care and would have treated it as real and she wouldn't be able to remember, thus leaving this woman as his legal property), only to be almost publicly raped by the rich creep as "consummation." This actually happens in the canon story. Like. Holmes understood that where things start as red flags like "rich creep harasses relatively powerless woman," the end of that road is only grimmer than the beginning.

And in "The Abbey Grange," technically the wife was only an accessory, her lover was the one who actually did the murder, and it was rather arguably in self-defence. In that case, the murdered husband is a rich man who was all kind and sweet and wonderful while he was wooing his lady, only to turn into an absolute tyrant after they were wed and she could do nothing about it. But the cover up was super intentional, and any other detective would have gotten hung up about it, especially because it implicated the wife and her trusted maidservant, so that's letting three people go instead of just one and you can bet Scotland Yard won't be having any of that. At no point does Holmes ever consider giving up the wife or the maid, but he's not so sure about the lover. So he's basically like, well, I'll just meet the fellow and see where he's at, and the guy comes to 221b and Holmes tests out his character and the dude passes with flying colours and Holmes goes, eh, good enough for me, go back to your job for a year and then have at it. All because Holmes understood that the road this woman was on ended in her own murder at the hands of the rich bastard, who had already been known to pay off officials so that the extent of his crimes would never be known. The way he justifies this? He reasons to Watson that he left all of the exact same evidence he had access to for the inspector, and if they can't figure it out from that, it's their own fault for being fucking dumb.

There is case after case after case like this, where someone powerful is preying on the powerless and Holmes is like, I AM NOT HAVING IT. Also important was the fact that a super important rich nobleman tries to buy Holmes' silence when the rich guy's son is blackmailing him (for reasons) and putting his younger son at risk to do so, and Holmes is like, fuck you, I don't deal that way.

The way Holmes textually canonically frequently regularly and often without hesitation commits crimes and/or protects criminals because he likes them, he thinks it's a silly thing to be criminalised for, he's bored, the police annoy him, he's gay, he's been drinking his respect women juice, or it was a really funny crime is just... ʚ he actually kinda just enjoys teasing you if anything to see if anything can make you crack, most attempts end in failure but it is a rather cute bonding exercise to whoosh you with anemo energy out of the blue to then help you reorganise your hair and straighten your clothes

ʚ he does worry for you on the occasion when you seem to show a lack of interest in him, he’s a pure romantic at heart! he thrives off the attention from his beloved partner! but once in a while you do show him just how much you love him

give me vi who's just a total hot mess...

Don't get me wrong, I love confident Vi who knows exactly what she's doing, a little smug and self-assured that she knows exactly what you like and how to give it to you. Who always has a shadow of a smirk tugging at her lips. But I feel we're sleeping on canon Vi—like that girl was a mess. Did you not see the way she looked at Cait?! My girl is the definition of "sure babe whatever you say".

So here's some little hot mess Vi headcanons I love

She's always bumping into stuff. She's got bruises all over her hips and legs from the amount of times she's caught herself on the table corner or counter top. It's gotten to the point where if there's a cupboard door open on a high shelf, you automatically cover the corner with your hand when Vi's around because she'd pretty much guaranteed to bang her head.

On that note, she's always dropping things. She's not allowed to touch the fancy dinner plates or empty the dishwasher because of it. Every few months you have to buy new glasses because yup, the others are all somehow broken. Again. ("I don't understand where they all go!" Vi complains, genuinely confused "I can't have broken them all.... did I?" Spoiler alert she did, in fact, break them all.)

Still on that note, she trips over everything. Everything, her path could be completely clear and she'd still stumble. It's sort of endearing, like you're leaving your flat and she's tripping over the front mat—"Who the fuck put that there?" She's so indignant it makes you smile. "We did, it's a mat. You know, the thing that goes before a door?"

When undressing you or tugging off her own clothes, she'll inevitably get an arm tangled, or struggle with buttons or a belt buckle. It always makes you both laugh a bit, because she's always so impatient and gets stuck on the smallest things. "Who the fuck invented these?" she laughs, amused at herself, her shaky fingers. But when you try to help she'll whine, "No, no, almost got it." (Half of your clothes end up ripped when she inevitably loses patience.)

She's super clever and can pick up things pretty quickly, but she's always trying to cut corners and experiment to make it "easier." Baking? Who needs all that measuring crap, she can just eyeball it. And sure, the cake tastes amazing, but it also swelled up like a balloon because she accidentally tipped in half the container of baking soda. The fire alarm gets set off at least once a week; now if you smell smoke you just... leave her to it.

She's super into tech and fixing stuff, which means lots of taking things apart, and the odd yelp here and there as she gives herself small electric shocks. One time you come home to smoke wafting through the kitchen, the distinct smell of burning rubber and a very sheepish Vi, who accidentally melted some kitchen utensils. How?! You don't even ask. (After that she has to work in the garage.)

She's always covered in grease from "improving" things on her motorbike. You're terrified every time she takes it for a spin, thinking for sure one of those "improvements" is going to get her in some sort of trouble.

Climbing onto the roof without shoes to fix something, sticking her hand through a dubious hole in the wall without gloves, leaning close to a faulty socket without glasses. "Hey, don't panic Cupcake, what's the worst that could happen, huh?" and you wave a wild hand around "Ugh, you could die?!"

Like sure, she's confident and daring and smirks her way through everything, but also laughs until she chokes, and pulls every "push" door, and basically will fall over her own feet if she's not gripping your hand. She thinks dad jokes are hilarious and doesn't know her way around your neighbourhood even though she literally grew up there. Whenever she's out you'll inevitably get a "hey I'm lost" call. "Where are you?" "Uhhh, like... opposite a post office?" You think for a second, orientating yourself. "Okay, turn so the post office is on your left, and keep walking." There's dubious silence from Vi's end and you sigh, biting back a smile. "Your left, like the hand you write with." "Ohh! Got it, got it..."

In a new city it's even worse, because she refuses to use maps. "Who needs directions when you can have adventure and discovery!!" "Vi, I'd hardly call the red-light district of Paris adventure, I just wanna see the bloody Eiffel Tower!"

Walking out in the sexist outfit ever, tattoos on full display, chains around her waist and looking unholy in steel capped boots, and your mouth has never been so dry in your whole life and "Hey Cupcake, can you help me? The stupid zip is tangled..."

vlad & danny are such interesting parallels to me esp if u wanna play more into the horror aspect of the show. vlad to me is the kind of horror vampires bring, they're attractive and alluring with large spiked gothic mansions as they suck you dry before you even register what happened.

danny is more like... small town radioactive horror? to me? does that make sense??? the horror of feeling, of knowing something is wrong with one of your classmates in your small, middle of bumfuck nowhere town. you know something is up, but he's still here walking around like always.

unfortunately my style is basically rip off anime LMFAO and i've never been good at communicating horror (falls to my knees and cries) but phantom could be so creepy and eerie. a seemingly teen boy in a hazmat suit, with a gas mask and/or goggles, wandering the streets at night, floating over streetlamps and making them and traffic lights buzz on and off. also electric core danny. he died to electrocution his ass is electric i do not Care what the show says, frost core danny can eat my ass🖕 (sorry to the frost danny likers. i do have an idea for the frost core thou)

my friend gave me the idea of making vlad snake-like too to match danny as a badger, snakes and badgers are natural enemies and all that. plus i didnt realize until after i drew it but vlad's hair and cape give him the silhouette around the head of a cobra! so i gave vlad cobra stripes on his ghost tail

i really like the idea of vlad kind of representing what danny could be. he represents the allure of power and letting go of your humanity i guess. he's petty, selfish, and has definitely murdered a couple people just because he felt like it. i know there are bones in the walls of his manor i just Know it. which i feel could be a fun way to rethink danny's first interaction with plasmius proper, maybe danny figures out who some wisconsin serial killer is with the added bonus of finding bones and rotting clothes in the walls of the basement because. ghost powers. and only another ghost could hide a body that way. ya feel me? its cool. kinda just rambling atp

i played around with giving danny a full face gas mask but i didnt like them too much. the goggles im on the fence about, i wanted them to be the same round goofy goggles maddie and jack wear but it takes away from the potential creep factor i feel... or maybe i just dont know how to draw it creepy (yet). he doesn't need the gas mask as a ghost but it would help hide his face i think. thats one thing, im watching eps with some friends who arent really into the show like i am and they keep asking how tf does no one know its danny and i just have to gently put my hand on their shoulder and tell them its cartoon logic. but for this! i feel like danny's face would be harder to see, like he's usually engaged in combat and when he's not he still has that gas mask and goggles combo, and its not like his hair looks the same like it does in canon.

I saw someone asking about the circle of magi as the game struggled to capture any lore that was so vital to the games prior to it, especially DA2 where it came to a head and caused a full mage rebellion. An angel lost its wings.

Even if the game is set in the North where there is less issues with templar and mage conflicts, being replaced with mage cults and corrupted templars- the fact there is no real development within it other than say a line talking about the south once or twice in the story. (and typically it just concerns the blight).

Veilguard comes off as both a “baby’s first dragon age game” and “you need to play the first 3 to understand the lore” at the same time. It will repeat the most basic information such as Bellara feeling the need to point out the very first ogre of the game to- What is the blight? What is blood magic? Circle of Magi? Templars? The chantry?

Did I hate Veilguard? No, I don’t actually hate it so far. My biggest complaints are this-

1 . ) the romance is sad to a point, Lucanis is typically the main offender. But I don’t hate it, though Fenris and Hawke I think ruined any other romances in this game for me.

2. ) World State is GONE. What was the point of the keep if you only had it for one game? Even if it took mostly in the south choices such as a friendship/rivalry with Varric could mean something- references to past characters, especially Inquisition (outside like 3 choices). and The Grey Wardens …. there is so many times where a good reference to a origin could mean something- Perhaps Darvin mentioning a dalish HoF when he discusses leaving his clan, comparing it? or how the Inquisitor possibly had banished them a while back?? Idk it’s just so disappointing I miss my character specific references.

3. ) The nonbinary scene with Taash. I surprisingly don’t HATE Taash despite them being an ass, but I suppose it’s biowares sad attempt at giving them a different personality from the rest of the cast who many are mysterious or disney levels of good. their scenes need heavy work, especially when I saw a rewrite of their coming out scene that involved lore- When I think of it I think of Iron Bull and Krem, a canonical trans man, and how their conversation compares to the one between Taash and their mother.

4. ) building up on the last point I hate the modern terms did we suddenly forget what era of life we’re in? We are in a mostly medieval society with magic and dragons and mythical beings. the writing sucks in so many ways compared to other games.

In short Veilguard is not entirely a bad story game, but it is a lackluster dragon age game and we either need a redemption or dragon age finally being laid to rest with this last game.

Long story short, turns out that I don't really like Veilguard. Like at all. So it's been cathartic to read some of the criticism here to feel like even if I still love the series and I'm mourning the lost lore and worldbuilding, I just can't say "hey I respect this game" cause... I don't. No, it's not a Dragon Age game.

Like for example, I can't believe that I just read a post in which op rightfully critics how big of a problem it is the lack of the Southern (or as a whole, honestly) Chantry representation in this game, and the tags are full of comments like "Good. I hate the Chantry anyway, it sucks"

hi, hi!! so...i have this idea for a (gender neutral) non-mc x sylus fic!

basically, you're a third year surgical resident at akso hospital, who has been pining over dr. zayne li for years. he had been your classmate in medical school for a brief period of time before he graduated early, and while he respects you as a co-worker, he has never seen you as anything more than a friend. you also notice how he speaks with a certain deepspace hunter whenever she visits the hospital. his longing glances, his gentle touches, his patient voice: you were very familiar with what a man looked like when he was in love. and so, you love him from afar.

one late night, however, zayne and ms. hunter stop you right before you leave the hospital. they explain that one of ms. hunter's "friends" had been critically injured and needed surgery. the "friend" in question was slung between the two of them, extremely bruised and bloodied, and though zayne seemed extremely distrustful toward the white-haired man, you know that he would always follow ms. hunter's requests.

they also explain why they need your help specifically:

the man is a wanted criminal, and they know that you could be trusted with a covert surgery.

he had been injured in the back of his head, and even though you have yet to finish your general surgical residency, you have more knowledge about this kind of procedure than zayne. (you were planning to specialize in neurosurgery, after all.)

so, instead of going home to watch another episode of your favorite k-drama, you were stuck at the hospital at three am, half-assing an illegal surgery for the man you love and the woman that he loves.

you volunteer to house the man in your apartment, and he eventually introduces himself to you after sleeping for nearly a day. before he leaves, sylus—who you learn to be the leader of onychinus—strikes a deal with you. he needs your help to convince ms. hunter to resonate with him, and in exchange, perhaps dr. zayne li would have a bit more free time on his hands. you initially reject his offer, but sylus explains that he would also pay for your medical school tuition.

so, cue you and sylus attempting to woo ms. hunter and both your feelings and his feelings becoming messier and messier.

Welcome to Lavender's and Carnation's, an MCYT Pride Month Zine!

This is a zine dedicated to and honoring the queer CC's who have made an impact on this fandom and their fans! It'll feature art, fanfic, and stories about how openly queer CC's have helped people accept/become more comfortable in their identities! (Which, by the way- you don't have to be signed up for the zine to share your story! Anyone can submit one!)

So, how exactly is this zine going to work?

Lavender and Carnation's will feature art and writing like most zines, but it has a special addition to the usual- you can submit your own stories without having to be an official contributor!

Have a CC who helped you become more comfortable with your identity? A CC's character who's impacted you via their story, or has helped you through a rough time in your life? Share your story (anon or not) and you can have it featured in the zine, interspersed with art of that CC's characters and stories!

Okay, this sounds awesome! But wait, how do I apply? What's the criteria for a CC getting nominated for this event? What's the schedule?

Great questions! Here's a basic run-down of the event (along with links to fully explain it)

Applications

There are four roles you can apply for within this event;

Mod

Mod's will help manage the discord server, answer questions, and offer any assistance you may need while creating your piece!

Cover Artist

Cover artists will either be able to apply for the zine cover (which will be a full page spread all the CC's featured in the zine), or as a CC cover artist (which will be a full page spread of all of a CC's character's/relevant side characters)

The applications are open for two zine cover artists, and one artist per however many CC's end up in the zine.

Artist

Non-cover artists will be creating half/quarter page illustrations to be featured along side submitted stories! These drawings can feature the CC themself, a character they portray (alone or with friends!)

If applicable, they can also apply to do a full page drawing of a canon queer relationship with a CC's character in it. (This will only include relationships that are explicitly stated to be romantic/queerplatonic. Examples of this are Milo and Scott from Witchcraft SMP and Aismey and Guqqie from Area Unknown.)

Writer

Writer's can apply to create a piece of writing exploring/featuring a canonical queer character’s identity/relationships. This can feature headcanons for other characters, but please avoid gender-bending for ships (ie, making a M/F ship M/M or a F/F ship M/M!) or changing the canon identity of the CC’s character!

CC Nominations

CC's are nominated based on what the community wants! A Google form with be posted on January 25th where you can nominate your favourite CC's to be featured in this zine. If your CC gets 10 nominations, they'll be considered for the zine!

After that, if enough people sign on to create for your CC, they'll be featured on the zine!
