okay so my goal in plasticity is NOT to "redeem" anyone or have anyone change their personal goals. so obito reincarnates and he still wants his moon's eye plan but also he is a little baby. i think i'll let both him and itachi keep their magic eyeballs but they don't have enough chakra to actually DO much with them until they're older (i guess like 12-13 bc that's when itachi was an ANBU captain, but it seems like neither of them should be able to be casually spamming mangekyou until they're adults)

however i think obito is uuuuuh easily distracted. like he can make a convoluted plan and carry it out-- he IS an uchiha thank you very much-- but also he's going to get sidetracked by just doing random shit for the lulz. this is why in canon he spends months harassing deidara for no reason. so he determines he must put his evil plans on hold for an indeterminate amount of time and WAIT A SECOND he hang out with rin now!!!!

i think he'd actually be very frustrated with trying to maintain a friendship with rin? like he put her on the HIGHEST pedestal but at the end of the day, she's a normal young girl. she's sweet to him but she's not as interesting as he remembers and she's a kid so she makes mistakes and also, obito is kind of insane and all of his peers Sense This about him. so he likes checking on her and doing short social activities with her, but he's not having hours long heart-to-hearts with her anymore. they're not as close. also if anything happens to rin obito will kill everyone in konoha and then himself

obito is kind of like "whatever, i'll be a genius this time around, that looked fucking fantastic for kakashi" so he attempts to be A Genius but it turns out if you're better than everyone else your age, adults expect you to..... do things?? obito is his own boss he doesn't just DO things smh. so he sets up this weird dynamic where he get lauded by his family but his family is also like uuuuh why aren't you graduating early??? BUT BECAUSE RIN IS THERE AND HE NEEDS TO LOOK AT HER

also, incredibly annoyingly, kakashi can still beat him sometimes because kakashi is a weird genetic freak. instead of just continually kicking his ass obito has just put more pressure on him to get stronger. horrible

konoha gives obito to minato and is like: there is something deeply unhinged about this kid but he had a sharingan at 8 so. do something with that. and unfortunately minato trying very earnestly to mentor obito is sort of endearing, and obito didn't realize the first time around how many strings minato pulled to get rin into medic-nin training and keep them off the frontlines as much as possible and obito..... will let him live this time, maybe.

at some point obito catches wind that danzo is sniffing around kakashi and so he breaks into danzo's home and is like "aaaaw how cute, but kakashi is mine. keep it up and i will kill you <3" and scares the living shit out of danzo. (minato is SUSPICIOUS obito Did Something but this does mean MINATO no longer has to do anything, so he doesn't ask questions)

the minute obito thinks he can use kamui more than once without giving himself chakra exhaustion, he starts poking around internationally. there's no real goal except MAYBE find and kill zetsu and madara, he's just Doing Shit. and in Doing Shit he runs into the Ame Trio and realizes there's more than one reincarnate?

so i think the obito-itachi relationship is obito realizes he has a sounding board for all the various random shit he's been doing and whining about how his friendship with rin is weird, and also what if he claims kakashi by nonconsensually implanting one of his eyes??? no no, you're right, it's better if obito has two eyes to make up for not being half hashirama cells.

obito isn't really interested in uchiha massacre 2.0 though. he doesn't care if itachi murders danzo, and he'll eat popcorn while watching but he doesn't offer help. he convinces itachi to swap eyeballs with him for the EMS, but itachi really wants SASUKE to inherit his eyeballs once he's old enough so Obito might have to swap? again? with sasuke?? fine, whatever. this new version of team 7 all think he's bonkers and sometimes walk on extreme eggshells around him, but they're NICE to him and he's not going to fuck that up. minato will ask kakashi and rin to babysit once he has his brat kid, never obito, but obito doesn't really care because it means he has more time to go harass other akatsuki members

and then kakashi is taken hostage (UNFORGIVABLE) and it turns out. there was someone ELSE he could have been bothering this whole time!!!

Naruto Rewrite:

Disclaimer this is my opinion NOT fact. I’m just throwing out ideas that I’ve been thinking about for a while. Naruto and Naruto Shippuden belongs to Masashi Kishimoto

With Kaguya and the twins “gone” the tail beast separated on different areas for guarding purposes

The tail beast were seen as angels sent from heaven for some, while to others they’re demons sent from hell.

Hashirama didn’t capture the tailed beast, but the villages themselves went out of their way to capture them. Each tail beast went to a major village and was used as a statues symbol and protection

Sadly the damage was done as Kaguya was seen as god. Her being sealed lead to two groups forming, those who believe in her and those who didn’t

This view points had started so many beefs that everyone where wearing against eachother

Skip forward and we get to Hashirama and Madara, the reincarnations were two villages that had Kaguya in a different view there village kept beefing and dying for the longest time

Eventually Hashirama’s village captured the nine tails and caused a peace since Madara’s village believed if they didn’t they would sick the 9 tails on them

During the first Great War Madara by chance found Kaguya old god tree and by extension black Zetsu

Sensing him Kaguya used her spirit and told him if he could release her, he could be king of the world. She need him locate her ten tails to gather all legendary tail beast and bring her back to life

the tree then made him a special fruit which he ate giving him the mangekyo sharingan temporarily since they need to scale the sharingan back like 50 feet

Since the villages came together many people wanted peace while others wanted to rage. Madara took the raging side with him and the rest stayed with Hashirama as refugees (Breaking up the Uchihas gives help us later)

This gives Hashirama an idea and he begins to bring in many villages to make todays Land Hidden in the Trees since they were strong separate but stronger together

Madara begins going to wars with his little military group and helps destroy people while also keeping a look out for the ten tailed beast statue

Many villages either left the tailed beast with no host or creating the first Jinchuriki to be used as status symbols and to keep them safe

Uzumaki’s were nearly wipped out, but instead it caused refugees. They got killed but a few hundred still remained and left to go live in the Land of waves and Land of Sound mostly but still you got some Trail Blazers

Eventually Madara found the ten tails husk and reported back to Kaguya. She in turn began her revenge and told him to bring her ten rings

Each ring once completed gave the wearer a special power up for their chakra or element of choice (deidara’s extra mouths, Kisame fish, Konan paper trick, etc.) the rings amplified they’re already given powers

We then introduce black and white Zetsu as “ying and yang” given by the tree to help build an army ( introducing the white Tetsu army early on might be interesting, foot soldiers if you will)

Hashirama cells need to be nerfed, they can’t explain everything. I’m sorry but he was a crutch to explain everything. Wood release should be normal in some shape or form, but hard to learn and master. (Almost like the reincarnated brother has some kind of special wood lease hint hint nudge nudge)

Madara and Obito's Relationship: Discovering Obito

I do not believe that Madara had been planning to "use" Obito from the start. I think that Obito's appearance was a fortunate coincidence for Madara.

If Obito was never found underneath those rocks in the first place, Madara would have used and manipulated Nagato instead through the use of Black Zetsu, whom he assumes is his own "will", in order to be revived and move forward with the Plan.

While we have not seen HOW Madara found Obito, I dug around to see other people's opinions on the matter and many were speculating over Madara's words: "You seemed to just slip through the rocks."

I would say that the series of events started like this:

The place where Obito got crushed by a boulder was very close to Madara's lair, and given that a war was going on - the sounds of fighting and jutsus being unleashed must have also been heard in the Mountain's Graveyard. When the Iwa ninjas buried Obito even further into the rubble, the tremors of the earth breaking and shaking must have reached Madara, alerting him. So I would say that Madara summoned one of the White Zetsu clones and told them to go and discover where the noise came from, and since Zetsu can slip into the ground, I believe that's how they found Obito's body.

They found him underground in an area that's close to the lair, and they brought his body back to Madara.

Madara must have been curious to see that an eye was missing, and was even more surprised to see that his right eye had a Sharingan - with 2 tomoe no less, and that's an impressive achievement for someone as young as Obito to awaken 2 tomoe in their bloodline limit; and this gave Madara a hint on Obito's potential. He must have also seen the Uchiha crest on Obito's jacket after removing his clothes in order to treat his damaged limbs.

Obito surviving the implantation of Hashirama's cells was also another confirmation of Obito's potential to Madara, and this made him more curious of him; and he must have sent White Zetsu once more to retrieve information about the young Uchiha - and that's probably how Madara came to discover that Obito has a big heart and loves to take care of the elderly - information that would easily help Madara exploit Obito.

The exploitation part is still something I'm a tad skeptical about, however... because I too don't think that Madara ever really needed Obito for his plans... but that's also something else to think about later on.

I realized hashirama likely died turning into a tree after becoming bad at using sage jutsu and why naruto suddenly had a robot arm in boruto instead

He likely hadn't needed to use it for 30 years before his death since the valley of the end fight. Thats plenty of time to become bad at using it and we know what the adverse effects are for toad sage jutsu. And it wouldn't make sense for something like regeneration to somehow just kill him. Why did so many people have access to living cells from him? He didn't fully die. He became a tree like began to happen to danzo when he wasn't able to control hashiramas powers. Just like what happened to the white zetsu when naruto so much as touches them, they instantly become a tree. An elderly hashirama decades out of practice being pushed into a harsh fight could easily cause this to happen to him.

Then as for narutos hashirama cell made arm, why did they have to chop it off and give him a robot arm instead? Well the *real* answer is likely due to borutos author not knowing what happened in naruto, I don't think the dude ever read/watched it even. But a more interesting in universe explanation is linked to madara growing a face on his chest and a hashirama body growing from the ten tails husk when its implanted with his cells. If madara had a face grow from a small piece imagine how narutos fast healing would effect a whole arm of hashirama. The arm could have began to develop a whole new body and need to be removed, this would also explain why its not used for anyone else like Sasuke later in his life, why it wasn't a medical revolution after all. Naruto would have likely regrown his arm in minutes had the nine tails not been completely drained to the point of becoming unconscious, he did this before to regrow an entire lung after Sasuke had ripped it out in their first fight in only seconds. Imagine what this could do when attached to an arm that is still trying to regrow its own body.

Madara&Obito au where they find out a way to actually give Madara some form of immortality so instead of leaving Obito to deal with all shit alone and dying Madara lives and they both somehow form plans and do things towards goals

Obito still very much grows to hate him maybe even more than in canon cuz here he has to deal with him Every Day of his life imagine what a nightmare

Okay so, this is not MadaObi because Obito is still a kid. BUT if I took this concept and ran with it then it could definitely turn into another long-winded slowburn AU and I am sorely tempted!!!

The truth was beautiful in its simplicity: all he had needed to do to finally awaken the Rinnegan, was to die. To think he hadn’t known this! He should’ve known. It was hidden plainly in the ancient lore of shamans, who travelled out of their bodies to be devoured and then remade from the same stuff as the spirits who ate them. Not a physical death, but a death nonetheless. And what was the physical world anyway? Nothing but a bad dream.

Madara returned from the borderlands of death with the Rinnegan gleaming violet in his sunken eyesockets, and the hands he raised to touch his face were still lined and knotted with great age. He was a Saviour with great power, but no strength. One stiff breeze might do him in. No, that just wouldn’t do at all.

So he chose a successor, a child of the Uchiha clan who could carry on his great work and revive him at the right moment.

The child died.

He had not been strong enough, and Hashirama’s cells had overwhelmed him. The twisted corpse had branches erupting from its mouth and eyes, pale white flowers blooming in the darkness of the cave.

Several other failed experiments had followed over the years, until at last he found Obito.

He had known somehow, that this one was different. He looked into the boy’s scarred face and could see flashes of the naïve child he had once been, so long ago. He was reminded of another boy as well. He could picture the pair they had made; two boys meeting by the riverside in the midst of a war, crafting their foolish dreams.

His plans for Obito were all laid in out, when an experiment with the Gedō Mazō made them obsolete.

Madara had been tethered to the shell of the Juubi for years, with its power the only thing that was keeping him still breathing. So why hadn’t it occurred to him to seal it into himself in the first place? The bijuu had to be sealed into it in order, starting with the Shukaku and ending with the Kyuubi, but his mistake had been in thinking that this couldn’t be done with the Gedō Mazō already sealed into a jinchuuriki. Oh, how Mito would’ve mocked him if she were here.

Empty though it was, the husk of the old nature god was a powerful thing, and the moment he sealed it into himself Madara was left breathless and shaking with ecstasy as vitality surged through his veins and renewed his youth. He was crazed in his delight, the sound of his laughter echoing through the caverns beneath the Mountain’s Graveyard. His creations—the White Zetsu and Uchiha Obito—looked on with astonishment as he rose to his full height, his back strong and no longer stooped with age.

“Whoa! Madara-sama, why didn’t you tell us you were having some work done?” exclaimed Tobi. The spiral-faced Zetsu moved in close and grasped Madara’s arm, flexing his elbow and feeling the muscles of his upper arm while the other Zetsu all chattered among themselves excitedly. Since nothing could currently spoil his good mood, Madara raised an eyebrow but magnanimously permitted it.

Obito, who was still wearing Tobi like a suit of armour, looked deeply chagrined by this ridiculous behaviour. “Would you cut that out?” he hissed. “These are my arms too you know!”

“Not at the mo-ment~ Obitobi~”

Madara tuned out the Zetsu nonsense through the ease of long practice, nudging the intrusive hands away absently. His mind was racing. Yes, there was nothing that could ruin his happiness. He would go to Amegakure and take his eyes back, and then, then there would be nothing that he could not accomplish.

Which meant that there was no need for Obito any longer, he supposed. His eyes flicked to the boy in question. For the first time since he’d come back to the cave after bathing in the blood of those Mist shinobi, Obito looked…lost. As well he might, Madara supposed. He would have to be reminded of his place in the scheme of things.

“Enough now,” he said, cutting through the Zetsus’ inane babbling effortlessly, as if he’d actually slit their throats. “There’s much to be done, and it’s past time I got a move on.” The hem of his robe swished around his calves as he crossed over to the wall where his weapons hung, lifting down his kusarigama and battle fan. He looked back over his shoulder expectantly, his lone Sharingan blazing in the gloom.

“Are you coming, Obito?”

absolutely obsessed for characters who don't reconcile with their abusers, or forgive them at all- everyone recovers in their own way and you can't just say shit like forgiveness always making it easier, NO, being stuck to interact with someone who'd done you wrong and who you do not want to be around anymore does not make it easier- whether they be related to you, former friends, literally anyone. If you were the victim you get to decide how to go on about your relationship or lack thereof, not them. or anyone else thoughts on it.

I wish still Tenzo had gotten to give Orochimaru a piece of his mind in the finale, or even just witness them being punished in literally any other way besides letting the people who commited countless crimes and experimented on dozens of people and children for decades, run free and fairly unburdened- Oh and got to punch Obito, not just for the kidnapping and torture thing but also for the pain he'd caused his senpai

Tenzo would punch Kabuto for the kidnapping. Obito really didn’t care about him, he wanted Naruto and Bee. kabuto grabbed Yamato in a last ditch effort and came up with the plan to use his hashirama cells to give mokuton to zetsu.

But ues, omg Tenzo deserved to hate orochimaru and yell at him, not get stuck babysitting him or whatever it is he does

And Karin, suigetsu and Juugo as well. Them goong to work for Orochimaru is bullshit

What are the villain origin stories you can see?

Well, outside from some crack-ish idea (the one I posted about clan head Shisui killing the Elders wouldn't really happen, it was just fun to think about) so far I think I only have three AUs where Shisui is honestly a villain:

The first one is an Akatsuki AU where Itachi dies protecting him from Danzō. Obito, witnessing it all happen, approaches Shisui with promises of a better world, one where Itachi would be able to live again and be happy, and Shisui, clutching Itachi's lifeless body against his chest, thinking of all the times the village, the clan and everyone else has let them down, decides to join the Akatsuki to help Obito achieve the Tsuki no Me;

The second one is also an Akatsuki AU, where Obito watches as Shisui (who I hc being his younger brother) has to grow up alone after Obito's supposed death, and after Shisui awakens the Mangekyō and no one steps in to help him through this traumatizing experience, Obito simply decides to take him away from the village. Mikoto sees this happening while she's going with Itachi to the graveyard to pay her respects to Minato and Kushina's graves, she sees little Shisui and (masked, unrecognizable) Obito standing in front of the Memorial stone and she isn't fast enough to reach Shisui before he gets taken away with the Kamui

Years later, after so much time passed with an Obito who was manipulated and molded by Madara and Zetsu, Shisui has completely embraced the Tsuki no Me plan and while Obito uses Madara's name for himself, he uses Izuna's name as a placeholder until his identity is revealed during the Fourth War.

The massacre never happens in this AU, because the Uchiha clan joins forces with the Hokage and the Inuzuka to try and find Shisui even years after he got kidnapped, and by doing so they slowly mend their bond with the village, and during the war Shisui listens in disgust as Mikoto tells him about how much they tried to find and save him, while Shisui tells her that they never cared about him and only about his power, otherwise, clearly, a ten years old boy who just watched his best friend die and awakened the most traumatizing version of the Sharingan wouldn't have been congratulated on the 'achievement' and would have been helped and treated like the kid he was instead of a weapon to use;

The third and last AU is a Mokuton AU where Danzō approaches Shisui after he awakens the Mangekyō and promises him to help him, using his old friendship with Kagami as an excuse, saying how much he loved his friend and how much Kagami would hate him if he let his descendant alone in such a time of need. Shisui, alone and a kid and scared of how fast Fugaku is pushing to make him take the Chunin exams now that he got 'stronger' thanks to the Mangekyō, immediately trusts Danzō on his words and is coerced into joining ROOT and getting experimented on with Hashirama's cells.

Fast forward a handful of years, Shisui is completely loyal to Danzō, the only person who ever even remotely showed him any kind of affection (no matter how toxic it was), actively working from within the Uchiha clan to make things even worse, using his Mangekyō to convince Itachi to kill off the clan and trying to manipulate Sasuke into ROOT just like Danzō did with him. However, he fails, and after Sasuke kills off Danzō he takes up the position as the new ROOT leader and undermines Konoha from the inside, going as far as to try and brainwash Tsunade (but either Ao or a Hyūga catch onto it) and then trying to kill her when that doesn't work.

He purposefully orders every single ROOT operatives to not partecipate to the war and not give their aid to the Shinobi Alliance, and after the war has finished he gets banned from Konoha and branded as a traitor, and while most of ROOT comes with him (Shisui having used Kotoamatsukami on them to make sure that they'll never betray him), he still has some spies inside the village. Most of his hatred is for Sasuke because he killed Danzō, but he also has it for the village as a whole because they never understood Danzō's greatness and never understood his actions, with Homura and Koharu being the only two exception since they always were on Danzō's side. And yet, despite hating the village, Shisui wants to rule over it because that's what Danzō wanted, and his only wish is for Danzō's dream to live on.

When he was around thirteen he used a kunai to carve Danzō's name into his left hip while actively holding the Mokuton's healing factor back just to show him how much loyal he was to him. He still has the scar.

Madara and Obito... In SPACE

So the preface to this mess: I don’t know jackshit about Star Wars, so a lot of this went through friends who do know Star Wars (the primary of which does not have a tumblr).

(I have watched Episodes 7&8, and Rogue One. Of the first six movies, I remember watching maybe an hour total. I have not seen more than snatches of Clone Wars. Beyond that, nothing but fic.)

Anyway! Let’s go:

As y’all probably know by now, my favorite form of crossover is what I call “intrusive,” so... I'm enjoying the mental concept of "dump Madara on Coruscant and watch him go." (Prequels, probably.)

Does Madara know what's going on? No. Can he understand a word that's being said? No! Is he going to fight the first person to aim a weapon at him, and every person after that? Yes.

Is Madara fighting fit?

Nnnnnnnnnnnnnno, not really, he’s old as balls. This is "I was on cave life support but I'm getting back up to kick ass out of pure spite" Madara.

Congrats, Palpatine! Your ass is getting kicked by a geriatric malcontent who doesn't speak any language you've ever heard or feel like literally anything in the Force. You may have Sith lightning, but do you have decades of frontline experiences and over half a century of cave-dwelling bitterness?

Both of them, simultaneously, in completely different languages: Get off my lawn, whipper-snapper.

Palpatine: Behold my mastery of the Dark Side, Foolish old man! Palpatine: [shoots lightning] Madara: Oh hey, you're like the seventeenth most dangerous person who can shoot lightning I've fought. Telekinesis? Fought that. Combat precognition? Fought that, have that, and let me tell you hwat, it doesn't help if you're opponent is just that much faster than you.

Now, I’ll take a step back and acknowledge that several people advised me that Palpatine would stand a chance against Madara, likely even win, if Madara just got hacked off of his life support and is down to one eye.

But. I want a shitpost, and also to clown on Palpatine, so Madara wins easily.

Madara also deserves to be clowned on, but the entire situation is clowning on him because he’s not in his cave anymore, and he really wants to go back to his Gedou Mazou statue.

Maybe Madara and Palpatine go Old Man Fight and then Obito just pulls a Ninja Move and kills Palpatine that way. Madara was ranting and Obito just. Ninjas behind Palpatine and slits his throat like “okay, you’re obviously evil so like... bye.”

(I just love causing "Wait what" reactions in characters that are used to having total control. Like. Have you read "Unexpected Guests"? The Bleach fic? Everything that happens in Hueco Mundo and after. That energy. I want that energy.)

Madara waves his scythe around like a cane. Obito just trails after like “Gramps, no” because it’s still pre-Sanbi, so he’s Mostly Innocent (you know, on the scale of how fucked up Obito is as a person), and just wants Madara to like. Stop.

Palpatine dies but nobody's sure what to charge Madara with since he did kind of expose a Sith? And Palpatine attacked first for [handwave] reasons?

Jedi: Well sir, in lieu of charging you with assassination of the emperor, we have decided to ask you politely to return to the elderly person's retirement home from whence you came. Please leave immediately. You are frightening the senate. Madara: [incomprehensible raving] Jedi: Yes yes, very interesting. Jedi, whispering: Does anyone know his caretaker???

Obito looks increasingly put-upon as events progress. You need Obito there to... well, not translate. Nobody can translate. But to at least poke Madara into being Slightly Less Homicidal.

Anakin seems sad about his friend dying and being evil so Obito challenges him to a spar. Madara and Obito get pulled into the Jedi Temple to help train Padawans? My first thought was "they wouldn't trust someone so obviously Weird, Crazy, and Incomprehensible around the younglings" and my second thought was "well they let Yoda do it and he's all those things so I mean? YEAH."

What if they put Madara in the bacta tank and he just freshened up like a daisy because of hand-wave Hashirama cell reasons (Blame Sir Tiddyface).

From “Decrepit and Reliant on Cave Tube Life Support” to “Will Call Down Meteors With Ease”

How many eyes does he have? Whatever’s funniest. Let’s say one Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan and one Rinnegan, for maximum chaos.

Would "half my body is missing" Obito freak out if Bacta regrew his eye? Can bacta regrow something like that? When characters lose limbs they usually just get cybernetic replacements, but  the person I spoke with said that apparently they saw somewhere that that kind of thing can grow back it just takes a really long time.

I want to imagine bacta would help Obito with the Zetsu integration.

Miscellaneous thoughts:

Madara is a grouchy old man even AFTER he gets effectively de-aged via bacta dunk, for the record. He's back in his prime and the Jedi have no idea how. They're all concerned about tiddyface*. (When are people not concerned about Sir Tiddyface, really.) The mokuton is a problem.

*Sir Tiddyface is that random Hashirama face that Madara had growing out of his pecs for like... convoluted bullshit reasons.

(Madara doesn't have mokuton, but he has enough Hashirama cells that it interacted very, VERY weirdly with the bacta.)

Obito spends the intervening weeks trying to learn the local language. He's very eager. Not particularly fast. Still doing it though!

I want Obito juggling kunai as physical therapy while he's waiting for Mads to get out of the bacta tank and just gains himself the adoration of a gaggle of small baby Jedi children.

Madara comes out of the bacta tank looking like he did in his prime (which I mentioned earlier but whatever), and it absolutely incites a yelling match of an argument that draws way too much attention.

Someone tries to teach Obito how to access the Force, just to see what happens. He almost turns into a statue because the philosophy behind Force meditation is only a few steps away from Sage Mode Meditation.

Anyway, Madara smacks him with a stick like Fukasaku to make sure Obito doesn't turn into stone.

Madara grumps about the lack of paper and brushes and ink. Bitches about it until someone hits up an antique store or something to get them for him. The day before he and Obito are dispatched on a mission with someone, probably Anakin for plot reasons, Madara very publicly seals things into a scroll and then tells them that no, they can't learn it, because the Force isn't chakra so fuuinjutsu won't work for them, so There.

Obito practices some Teen Rebellion (tm) and like, tries to teach the Padawan friends he's made how to do Chakra Things... but he's so bad at explaining things that nobody can get it to work even if it were possible.

In Obito's defense, language barriers. Not in Obito's defense, he's just really bad at words sometimes.

Sasuke was NERFED in the final fight

Okay, so it appears that I have your attention, and now, I will show some points here that prove my point. 

But before, I want to show WHY he was nerfed.

If you like to write stories u know a little about structuring a story, how characters work and things like that, and u have an ending in mind, but you have to work your way up to that ending, right ? 

But the thing is, to make the ending that we have today, Kishimoto had to make Naruto and Sasuke be equals, but have in mind that because of everything that he established before Sasuke was supposed to be stronger than Naruto, and he is still to this day being nerfed to be in a equal level and you know it. 

This happens a lot in Narutoverse or elsewhere.

First example. 

I am a huge Batman fan, but let’s be real, Superman is OP, REALLY OP, but if you are going to write a story with those two fighting u have to make an specific scenario where Batman has a chance to fight Superman. 

Second example

This is my favorite example in Naruto’s story, Kakashi is the most inconsistent character when it comes to be used as a plot piece or being the one that is the most nerfed to make the story work. 

Let’s imagine, the Kakashi of the Sharingan, after the fight with Zabuza didn't need to rest (BECAUSE MAYBE HE DOESN'T NEED TO REST AFTER USING THE SHARINGAN ????) instead he tracks Zabuza and Haku and end their lives, I mean, he was ANBU special ops before, he is the Kakashi of the Sharingan, so its weird that after a fight he has to rest for a WEEK so Team 7 get stronger.

I could show u guys more examples, but I want to get to the point, Sasuke in the final fight. 

I know some of you can be like “But sasuke was buffed with the tailed beasts” that’s not necessarily the truth, yeah, he used the Chakra and things like that, but he was lacking a lot of tools of his arsernal in that fight. 

So let’s list here the ones. 

Rinnegan

He didn't have both Rinnegans in the last fight, and he didn’t use a lot of his visual powers, u can argue a lot about this, but it’s the truth, Rinnegan it’s the most powerful dojutsu in the earth and Sasuke barely uses in the final fight. 

Flying 

Another power of those eyes that Sasuke didn’t use, he did fly using Susanno, but it’s not the same. 

Kuroki Jushink / Black Needles

By stabbing an opponent with the rods, the user can transmit their chakra into the target's body, disrupting their own chakra and throwing off their movements, and yet, Sasuke never uses. 

Mokuton 

 U can argue about this one, but he has Hashirama Cells, an Uchiha with Hashirama cells achieve what u call the six paths, so this gives u rinnengan. 

After Madara took a bite of Hashirama, he made the Zetsu and this is a manipulation of Wood release (so u can say that U DONT NEED A ZETSU LIMB os someshit like that to use wood style) if Sasuke had used Mokuton against Naruto, this fight would have ended quick. 

And even after the fight, Sasuke never accepted the white Zetsu arm,the excuse Kishimoto gave us is that Sasuke doesn't have that arm as a punishment to himself, but the truth its that he would be WAY stronger than Naruto if that happened and they wouldn’t know how to write him in Boruto’s because he would be a god among men. 

All Chakra Nature

When he gains Six Paths Rinnegan power, Sasuke is able to use all nature transformations but we don’t see that as much as we would like. 

If u have read Sasuke Retsuden u can see him using Ice style (yeah, Im not kidding)  OR CREATING WATER out of nowhere (Nidaime would be proud)

Who is Madara Uchiha?

Madara Uchiha is a fictional antagonist of the anime series and manga Naruto, 📚 he is actually the greatest leader of the Uchiha clan as well as the co-founder of the Hidden Leaf Village, Konoha. After fighting Hashirama for the title of the First Hokage, he is diagnosed dead , but eventually appears later in the series as Tobi. Simply because Obito was posing as Madara uchiwa during the heyday of Akatsuki. ☁️

Madara history

Madara grew up in constant competition with her younger brother, Izuna Uchiha . Both have been recognized as the most talented members of their clan. Their competition led them to obtain the Mangekyō Sharingan , 👁️ and with it, they were able to take control of the Uchiha clan. Although members of the Uchiha clan possess a powerful chakra, Madara and her brother's chakra were exceptional. 🌊 Under his leadership, the clan was almost indestructible. During a fight against the Senju clan, the Mangekyō Sharingan of Madara uchiha inflicted severe consequences on his body, due to its excessive use. One of them was losing her eyesight, 🦯 Madara kept her Mangekyō Sharingan active throughout the fight  which caused her to lose her eyesight. He therefore transplanted the eyes of his mortally wounded brother, by the brother of Hashirama, in order to thus obtain the eternal Mangekyou Sharingan.  

The founding of the hidden village of Konoha

Years later, the Uchiha clan faced endlessly against the powerful Senju clan. ⚔️ To end the incessant fighting, the leader of the Senju, Hashirama Senju, approached the Uchiha clan with a proposal for a truce . Although Madara did not desire peace with the Senju, her clan members wanted a ceasefire, 🔥 and Madara had no choice but to accept their decision. The Senju and Uchiha, along with all the clans they had conquered, then united to form the Hidden Leaf Village. Against Madara's will, the villagers chose to elect Hashirama as the first Hokage . 👑 While he was a Konoha ninja, Madara went to Iwagakure and addressed a young man named Ōnoki accompanied by the Tsuchikage of the time and his guardian, where they were informed that despite the alliance that 'he had made a deal with the Senju, his people 🚻 would remain subject to the power of the Senju.

Battle against Hashirama

Madara feared that Hashirama was oppressing the Uchiha people, and tried to rally the Uchiha clan to his cause in an effort to challenge his leadership. However, instead of helping him, the Uchiha turned their backs on him , believing his motives were due only to pride and the desire to gain more power. 💪 Abandoned by his clan, Madara left the village swearing revenge; after returning to challenge Hashirama to battle. They fought in the Valley of the End, and although Madara appealed to Kyubi , 🦊 he was defeated by Hashirama and diagnosed as dead. Madara personality

When Madara was still a child , he was regarded as kind, somewhat temperamental and competitive . He was a sensitive shinobi who cared both for his family and for others. Madara was very emotional and couldn't stand being laughed at. He also tended to cry when Hashirama teased him, because he was unable to ricochet on the river. 🏞️ The very first time we met Madara Uchiha in the Manga, he was described as a power thirsty person eager for revenge. He did not procrastinate when he had to kill his friends or when he tried to recover the hidden village of Konoha. But according to Madara, his sole purpose was actually to protect members of the Uchiha Clan. Madara's appearance

Madara uchiha has a fairly fair complexion as well as black hair with a slightly bluish tint. When he was still a teenager, his hair was shoulder-length and his dress code was that of the Uchiha clan ; 🌔 that is, a fairly large shirt and the badge of his clan worn on his back. He also had bandages on his shins and blue pants. Madara also wore a belt that allowed her to hold onto her bag containing her ninja gear.  As time went on, her dress style changed . As he grew older, he wore a belt over his shoulder which served as receptacles for his many swords. ⚔️  Madara Uchiwa has grown into a fairly tall man with long hair. It was so long that it went to the level of his belt. He also began to wear red samurai armor similar to that of his greatest rival, Hashirama, the Hokage of Konoha. The particularity of this armor is that it protected the various vital points of his body! ❤️ After receiving Hashirama's stem cells, Hashirama Senju's head could be seen on his chest.

The meeting between Madara and Obito

Madara lived for many years until the end of the Third Great Shinobi War . At the end of her life, Madara possessed a very weak body, and her only chance 🍀 to stay alive was to use the Outer Way Demon statue as a survival system. He therefore connected with the tree possessing Hashirama's genes, so that the statue could constantly provide Madara with chakra, in order to keep her alive and prevent her from instantaneous death. while maybe trying to frame hashirama for it with like, plant bits and blood everywhere? except madara escapes via a fancy modified hiraishin kunai that he and tobi were working on together, but is unfortunately Currently Perforated and so he sort of fumbles the jutsu due to blood loss and ends up being sucked into Ye Olde Time Portal. a search gets sent out when he fails to return from the mission, suspicion brews bc madara was a linchpin of the peace and hes gone, [2/?]

im really sorry this got so long! but also this thought took some twists and turns?? idk if you like/are comfortable with abo but for that part of the idea basically, a!tobi, o!madara bc like, the territoriality and possessiveness and willingness to Kill You With My Teeth have always seemed more like things that would be more useful for an omega? also madara is the most powerful mother hen. mostly bc i like the idea of like, people in the future think madara is an alpha and he's like. if Minato is a sensor like you say he is how come he couldn't sense Obito's chakra during the nine tail's attack?

Ooh, good question. 

Firstly, I’m not the only one who considers Minato as a sensor - I simply provided a basis for it with my Yamanaka headcanons [most of which I share with @senjutsunade]. Regardless, lets back track a little, shall we? 

This is from chapter 239. If memory serves, Senju Tobirama is able to identify enemy chakra signatures by using his index finger likewise and he was one of the best sensors of his time. The fact that he is able to identify Madara’s chakra from so far away despite the fact that the summoner - Orochimaru - mentioned that the resurrected were not at their prime supports the notion. 

Can you imagine what would have happened had they been at their prime? Yeesh. 

Moving on. If you recall the Fourth Shinobi War [which I can, thanks to re-reading those chapters multiple times due to a certain Kakachibi’s writing prompt] Tobirama isn’t the only one who manages to identify the familiar chakra signature - Minato can tell his son is in the middle of the fray and that’s not just his paternal instincts, ne? 

So Minato is a sensor. A very good sensor. At this point, I could babble about senjutsu and Kurama’s unique ability in the mix, but that wasn’t your question. I’ll talk about the nature of chakra sensing instead. 

Chakra, as you know, is unique to the individual; borne of physical and spiritual energies and very much like a fingerprint. If a sensor is aware of the frequency of the individual’s chakra, then they would probably be able to identify the person it belonged to, likewise. 

As far as Obito’s chakra is concerned, lets take a look at what the manga says. During the Kyubi’s rampage, Obito’s body wasn’t entirely his own. Half, or maybe a little more than half, comprised of Hashirama cells and Zetsu matter. His chakra, therefore, wasn’t even uniquely the same as it had been before he got trampled by a boulder. 

Logically, there was no way Minato would have been able to identify Tobi as Obito. Maybe if he had more time to amass sage energy, maybe he would have been able to identify the sliver that belonged to Obito.

100% agree with the last paragraph lmao + my theories to "patch up" this plot hole is:

either Madara set the Izanagi to revive him like 30-50 years later (maybe thinking everything would go more smoothly if he woke up when Hashirama & Tobirama were both either dead or decrepit?) and the reason his body aged so badly / "withered" so quickly is the same reason Nagato looked the way he did before his death;

while the Rinnegan was compatible with Madara since they were his own eyes, the Hashirama cells weren't (remember how Konoha did experimentation with those cells and so many people died? plus even Danzō's arm was "ruined" by the cell and he had to keep a seal on it at all times just so it wouldn't consume & destroy him), so just as a strong Uzumaki—ancient clan-relative of the Senju—could survive the Rinnegan implant but be severely weakened the moment they used it, a strong Uchiha could survive Hashirama cell implants but be severely weakened as a result.

the only reason Madara showed no such signs in the 4th war is that his body as an Edo Tensei had been "upgraded" (tampered with) by Kabuto, who literally said he made Madara stronger, even exceeding his prime; and canon has established Kabuto as having done extensive research on Hashirama cells, so much so that he could even easily nullify Yamato's mokuton—byproduct of Hashi cells—with his special poison. so when Madara was revived while his soul was occupying that "upgraded" Edo Tensei body—which was also altered somehow by Kabuto so that Madara's body was young instead of old as he was when he died, the way Hiruzen's body was old, not young like Minato's, who died young—Madara came to life in an altered, somehow-upgraded body, and no longer suffered drawbacks from the Hashi cells.

(might also be worth noting that the infamous Hashitit was never shown on Old Madara, who only had a scar when he was first revived with Izanagi, and later Madara looked down his chest when Kabuto informed him of his alterations; strongly implying that the Hashitit is actually a new addition symbolizing how Kabuto really did improve Madara's body)

or

Madara was so weakened from implanting Hashirama cell + driven into depression thinking of having to live on & fight in a world where Izuna had already died and the Uchiha had already turned away from him & destroyed his good name etc., that he mostly just stayed in reclusion/isolation while being picky about choosing underlings despite needing active, strong agents / bodies to send to do his bidding (so he ended up only having some "puppet shinobi" but no real apprentices or generals he could actually rely on, like he most likely had in the warring clans era, with Izuna by his side)

anddd maybe deep down he didn't really fully believe in the Infinite Tsukuyomi which at some level he knew didn't truly come from himself (but was suggested / implanted in his mind by sth else, i.e. Zetsu), and so he waited years and years hoping the world would right itself and prove his cynicism / nihilism / desolation wrong; and when they didn't (i.e. getting to not just the first, or second, but the THIRD world war), and when he had finally awakened the Rinnegan anyway, that was when he finally decided "that's it, no more moving back and forth or second-guessing, the world has proven that it needs and deserves no less than the Infinite Tsukuyomi"

Speculation from the cavern Part II

I once wrote a realistic headcanon where I said Madara might have stay connected to the Gedo statute around his 40, his body prematurely exhausted by years of battle. But actually I realise now I was wrong. To connect yourself you need a Gedo statue and to summon a Gedo statue you need a pair of rinnegan...🙃 and he obtains them in the verge of death, in his 90 ish...

Oh man... that mistake open a new infernal door of speculations !🤯

Madara was free to move anywhere he wants for most of his life, especially after Tobirama's death who is known to be a great sensor. And thanks to white zetsu, he is pretty well aware of all the shinobi geopolitics of the time. He said to Obito that he built some of the underground.

Ok so underground builder might have been one of his hobbies. Sasuke later destroyed the main entrance when he awakened his EMS but the corridors still exist and we don't know how far they travel through the fire country.

And his character is showed many times as a man of action. He can't just stay still. He's constantly looking for or doing something new as shown by Hashirama's reaction below:

PKGORBM!!! everyone is traumatized by the apocalypse on its way but Hashirama seems to talk about a facetious kid acting bad. I'll talk an other time about both Hashi and Madara being insane in their own league.

So Madara just sitting in his cave and contemplating the coming of his potential Rinnegan seems out of character.

Do you remember when he made fun of Obito spending a life time chasing the 9 bijuu with the help of Akatsuki. But Madara... what is your excuse in 60 years?

If I remember well, when he talked to Hashirama in front of the Uchiha shrine he already knew Kaguya's story (thanks to Zetsu's editing) and already came up with the idea that he needs part of Hashirama's power to recreate the Rinnegan. and also that he needs all bijuus for starting the infinite Tsukuyomi. He captured first Kyuubi and used him to get Hashirama's cells... but then what next? Why didn't he chase the other weaker bijuus just with his Sharingan?

Even if the Rinnegan was delayed, he still was strong enough to chase all the bijuus in his 30s, 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's but he didn't. Even in his crippled 90's he was able to control a group of Kiri shinobis, Rin and sealed Sanbi into her.

Some of you could say : but what the point to collect all the bijuus if you can't summon the Gedo statue first? Ok, ok...back to the Rinnegan issue. If I'm correct to awake the Rinnegan not only you need to merge Uchiha and Senju cells but they need to both comes from Indra and Ashura reincarnations. So technically as soon as Hashirama died, his cells are useless. And Ashura won't reincarnate again if the previous Indra's reincarnation is still alive. Sasuke becomes Indra's next avatar only because Madara died just few years before. As if Ashura was waiting for Sasuke's birth to reincarnate few month later into Naruto and continue their never-ending conflict.

You want to know what I think about this mess? I think Kishimoto and his team don't care that much about ensuring consistency in Narutoverse, in the same manner they don't care about proper family tree or timeline. They just wanted an overpowered charismatic villain from a distant past, and didn't pay attention or didn't care that it's doesn't make any sense that someone so powerful and notoriously impatient will be invisible and idle for 60 years.

Jinchuuriki Obito as in... Juubi Jinchuuriki like in canon?

Ah, no. That... I was talking about Sanbi Jinchuuriki!Obito... 😂

I was just thinking about the fact that I always headcanon Shisui awakening his Sharingan when Minato comes tell him that Obito died during the Kannabi Bridge mission, and I thought: "But if Obito does come back, maybe Shisui doesn't awaken the Sharingan in that moment"

So my head took that idea and ran with it. Basically, the idea would be that Shisui awakens the Sharingan later during a mission, and the one that took his best friend away doesn't awakens his Mangekyō but triggers his third tomoe instead, so when Zetsu finds him Shisui doesn't have the Mangekyō yet

And Madara needs a way to keep Shisui around and not make him go back to Konoha, so instead of manipulating things to have Kiri kidnap Rin he has them kidnap Obito, since Obito is Shisui's big brother, and shove the Sanbi in him

Problem is, Madara wouldn't know that Orochimaru has patched Obito up with Hashirama's cells, so when Obito does try to kill himself using Kakashi the Mokuton keeps him alive long enough for Isobu to help with the healing, since if his host dies he dies as well

(And yes, Isobu would later just reform, since being a creature of pure chakra means that he does not die as humans do, but still he doesn't want to go through that)

But of course Shisui wouldn't know that, and Zetsu tricks him into thinking and believing that Obito died, giving Madara the perfect opening to start manipulating him

Madara actually stays around longer than in canon, because Shisui is still fairly young (he would take him in when he's aroun 10 y/o) so he's very much easily manipulated, especially after such a hard blow like losing his last remaining family, so Madara stays around until Shisui is around 16/17 to make sure that he's properly turned into the perfect puppet

I don't know if Madara would trick him into being experimented on with Hashirama's cells, maybe with the promise of making him stronger and thus making it easier, in Shisui's eyes, to reach the goal of the perfect world, but it's a possibility

I also think Obito would look for Shisui far and wide, because Zetsu taking him in and the rest of his team dying means that there is no body left behind and no proofs that he's indeed dead, so Obito would refuse to accept Shisui's death until he finds his body himself
