ngl I was expecting the episode itself to end up in some kind of commentary on how the Doctor and Ruby were technically also there to "cosplay" (faking who they were to fit in with the people and just kinda treat their lives like a game), but I guess since they weren't doing Cosplay Murder it's not really on the same order of magnitude and didn't need to be said

What is the greatest Doctor Who story ever told?
Everything has been split into groups of 32 that I think are of similar levels of notoritiy, but likely not popularity. Seeding within the groups decides the matches. At the end of the round groups are paired up and mashed together to do it all again.
What that means right now is the order the matches below are listed in has no baring on what they'll be against in the next round
There will be 16 matches a day with Fridays off
Lastly, you can still submit propaganda for posts here

Thinking about how S3 portrays the Doctor’s grief about losing Rose surprisingly well for a campy alien show. Of course, there’s the rather obvious references to Rose in dialogue, especially in “The Runaway Bride”, but what is interesting to note about the direct mentions of her by the Doctor is that the only time he mentions her in a joyful way it’s to reassure Donna and Jack that she’s alive and well in a parallel world. When he’s not reassuring other people that she’s okay, the Doctor treats Rose like she’s deceased, which, for all intents and purposes, she is in their universe. He can’t see her again unless it’s in the past. She’s legally been declared dead. “She’s happy in a parallel world” is similar to the way people say “they’re in a better place” about a loved one that died.
But beyond that, narratively there are references to the Doctor being unable to cope, being stuck, and clinging to the past. Throughout S3 the Doctor takes unnecessary risks in a way that seems borderline suicidal. In “The Runaway Bride”, “Smith and Jones”, “Daleks in Manhattan”, and “Evolution of the Daleks”, there are moments where the Doctor makes deliberate decisions to put himself in danger or otherwise provoke an enemy into targeting him, and, as shown in “Turn Left” in S4, the Doctor would have died permanently in “The Runaway Bride” had he been alone. Further, on at least three occasions during S3, the Doctor struggles with heart problems. His hearts stop in “Smith and Jones” because of the Plasmavore, a Carrionite stops one of his hearts in “The Shakespeare Code”, and in “Human Nature” and “The Family of Blood” the Doctor quite literally loses one of his hearts after his DNA is rewritten.
As for being stuck and clinging to the past, seven or eight episodes (depending on if you count “Utopia” or not) out of S3 involve the Doctor (and Martha) being stuck and unable to leave. “Gridlock” has them stuck in traffic. “42″ has them stuck on a ship hurtling towards a sun with no way back to the TARDIS. “Human Nature”, “The Family of Blood”, and “Blink” all have the Doctor and Martha quite literally stuck in the past. And in the three part finale the Doctor is trapped with the Master. Similarly, seven out of thirteen episodes are set in the past (”The Shakespeare Code”, “Daleks in Manhattan”, “Evolution of the Daleks”, “Human Nature”, “The Family of Blood”, and “Blink” ) or on planets the Doctor previously visited with Rose (”Gridlock”). I include “Gridlock” in the counter because it’s directly called out by Martha as being a place the Doctor brought Rose to, thus it’s a place from the Doctor’s linear past with Rose. The season also ends with time reverting back an entire year. Comparatively, S1 had four episodes set in the past (”The Unquiet Dead”, “Father’s Day”, “The Empty Child”, and “The Doctor Dances”) and S2 had 2.5 (“Tooth and Claw”, “The Idiot’s Lantern”, and “The Girl in the Fireplace”--which also takes place on a 50th Century spaceship, hence the half point). There are less episodes set in the Earth’s past or the Doctor’s past in S1 and S2 combined than there are in S3, and S4 only has two episodes set in the Earth’s past (”The Fires of Pompeii” and “The Unicorn and the Wasp”).
You can say what you want about RTD’s writing, but you can’t deny that he was pretty brilliant in terms of symbolism and running themes. You can see the same thing in S2, which has a running theme of the Doctor and Rose being separated and trying to get back to each other.

Episode 12x07: Can you hear me?
The episode that has the potential, but fell just a bit short to be a great one.
Spoilers below
Tumblr media
The good:
The beginning of the episode totally gave me the Fires of Pompeii vibes: is it me, or they reused the set of Fires of Pompeii (and accidentally borrowed a better CGI-ed werewolf creature from Tooth and Claw?)
I loved how they made fun of the Doctor’s inability to shut up because she just has to show off in front of her companions, a habit, that she can’t quit even when the companions are not around.
This episode we are having a SassyGraham. Did I mention I love Graham? I l-o-v-e Graham.
I liked the Harry Potter-like bit with the cartoonish storytelling of a tale of two gods.
The episode made a really great point about being aware of one’s own mental health and seeking help when needed.
The not-so-good:
The villains. We are talking about two more immortals, who have lived who-knows how long. Could they be just a wee bit more nuanced? Or at least not flat out decide to take things slow on Earth (which means starting with one little street in London), so that the Doc could conveniently stop them within, what, 30 seconds? Really?
The “biggest” nightmares of the fam (apart from Graham) were not that scary. Although I can give it a pass since it’s intended for kids to see as well.
The Doc, as it turns out, has some crazy juggling skills with that sonic screwdriver that defies the gravity and lands right into her hands when the plot demands so. Has the Doctor ever had this superconnection with the screwdriver before?
And probably the moment that made me really angry. “I’m socially awkward”, says Thirteen to Graham, who just opened up to her about his fear of cancer returning. The Doctor doesn’t have anything to say to him and the moment is played for comedic effect? The Doctor might be socially awkward in many situations but not to be able to say a single adequate sentence to Graham about his very raw fear for his life? Thirteen herself has made so many speeches in these 2 seasons reassuring either her fam or others on numerous topics, and she couldn’t say anything to Graham? Seriously? This just put me off Thirteen so much.
Overall I enjoyed the episode. Even considering all of my gripes with it, it’s still a very solid filler episode.

good starter ten episodes for people who want to watch doctor whomst because of david tennant (feel free to add more): - tooth and claw (season 2): queen victoria and werewolves - gridlock (season 3): fun future dystopia! cat people! giant crabs! and the doctor gets a lovely speech about his destroyed planet - daleks in manhattan/evolution of the daleks (season 3): daleks in the sewers, pig people, a 30s showgirl jazz song that gets stuck in my head to this day, andrew garfield is there - blink (season 3): doctor-light episode, he and martha only get a few minutes of screentime, but has a great and creepy story with one of the most unique and iconic monsters - the fires of pompeii (season 4): ancient rome, lava people, and a moral dilemma. donna really gets to shine in this one - silence in the library/forest of the dead (season 4): scary virtual reality stuff and a great monster - midnight (season 4): god i cannot recommend this one highly enough. it's like a really good twilight zone episode from the low budget to The Real Monster Is Humanity. ten is very pretty and very troubled. lots of spooky stuff goes unexplained. only downside is not much donna

ADHD & Autistic Doctor
(Doctor Character Study part 2e)
An Analysis of the doctor through the view of him having ASD & ADHD part 5. I want to thank @browneyesandpinstripes Parenthesis denotes the source of a material. Brackets are an aside comment.
10th Doctor:
Ten is hyperactive even when he is at his lowest point. He has still had very strong presentations of his neruodiverngence even though he is a very social and considered one of the most “human/normal” doctors. Even in his human form, he retains much of these behaviours. Showing that even when he isn’t a time lord much of the neruodiverngence stays with him. (TV: Human Nature / The Family of Blood)
Special Interest/stimming with his little machines (TV: Blink, TV: Partners in Crime, TV: Utopia, TV; The Sound of The Drums)
Always rambling from the get-go.  ( TV the Christmas invasion). You can also see this often when he is thinking but it will drift around a bit on the subject ( TV: Smith and Jones). Continues this behaviour of going on tangents and missing the point of things ( TV: Human Nature, TV: Blink, TV: The Sontaran Stratagem / The Poison Sky)
Rambling combined with not getting social things get you lines like “I thought there'd be happy slapping hoodies. Happy slapping hoodies with ASBOs. Happy slapping hoodies with ASBOs and ringtones. Huh? Huh? Oh, yeah. Don't tell me I don't fit in” (TV: School Reunion)
Will ramble sometimes even to himself  (TV: The Girl In the Fireplace)
Rambles/info dumps about the year they arrived in and ends up talking about his thumb (TV: Tooth and Claw)
Distracted by small things, like stopping fighting monsters killing the whole human race to talk to rose about his hair. (TV: The Christmas Invasion)
Doesn't quite know the proper time to talk, or handle the situation when dealing with Reinette rambling and the getting distracted while fighting the enemy. (TV: The Girl in the Fireplace) Also when Donna is sucked in, he gets distracted by why she's there. He then starts to ramble on saying a bunch of stuff his brain definitely working faster than his common sense (TV: The Runaway Bride). We see this again when the doctor says “ It's a bit rubbish. How many prisms has it got? Way too many. The magnification gone right over the top. That's stupid kind of, Am I being rude again?” The doctor misses the social cue and his mouth moves faster than his brain so he has to check for roses perception. The doctor says a little before then "Well, they were bald, athletic. Your wife's away, I just thought you were happy" (TV: Tooth and Claw) Another example is when the doctor says, “Conglomeration, that’s what I said!” Jack replies “You’re supposed to say sorry.” (TV: Utopia) Again here he needs prompting from jack to realise what is the appropriate social response. Talks about why they haven’t taken Reinette’s body parts right in front of her (TV: The Girl in The Fireplace). Oblivious to jack and Martha's feelings for him (TV: The Sound of The Drums)
He never stands still often running about the TARDIS hitting things with mallets and jumping around to make it fly.  (TV: The Stolen Earth)
Extremely impulsive, this is often combined with a need to be brave. Deciding to stay in danger because its whats there (TV: The Impossible Planet) Choosing to fly down an air shaft to protect river on the flimsy evidence that she had a screwdriver that was his (TV: Forest of The Dead) He eats out of the jam jar not really thinking about if he should or not. (TV: Fear Her) Jumping through the time portal when he knows he can not come back (TV: The Girl in The Fireplace)
Climbs on things he shouldn't sometimes to make a point. (TV: The Evolution of the Daleks) Lays back on chairs sprawled out in a way that is not particularly appropriate (TV: Partners in Crime) Sitting and standing awkwardly (TV: Utopia)
Experiences sensory/info overload saying “Oh my head, My head” holding his head. (TV: Tooth and Claw)
Echolalia “So, physics. Physics eh? Physics. Physics. Physics! Physics. Physics, physics, physics, physics, physics, physics, physics.”  “No. Good for you.  Good for you. Oh, good for you, Sarah Jane Smith.” (TV: School Reunion ) “You're Mister Thick Thick Thickity Thick Face from Thicktown, Thickania” (TV: The Girl in The Fireplace)
Disorganized throws his coat around everywhere (TV: The Girl in The Fireplace)
Doesn’t get turns of phrase, and missing points. Donna says;“Don’t tell me the TARDIS has gone”  The Doctor Replies“Okay” Donna then asks”So where is it?” A confused Doctor answeres,“You.. told me not to tell you?” (TV: The Fires of Pompeii)  Another example; “Tell you what then, don't step on any butterflies. What have butterflies ever done to you?” (TV: The Shakespeare Code)
Possible sensory issues with pears (TV: Human Nature). Always wear the same 2-3 suites possible for sensory issues and a sense of normalcy.
Starts having a meltdown until Donna brings him back down (TV: Partners in Crime)
11th doctor
A very stereotypically ADHD and autistic character. An awkward, socially oblivious obviously strange character. His characteristic truly shines through but are definitely augmented by his C-PTSD and his struggles with identity carried over from ten.
Constantly twirling and jumping while flying the TARDIS or messing around underneath always having to be active (TV: The Doctor's Wife, TV: The Impossible Astronaut, TV: The Vampires of Venice, TV: Dinosaurs on Spaceship etc.)
Impulsivity is very true with this doctor. He calls theAatraxi back without truly thinking it through, in this case, it worked out fine because he was as scary as he thought he was (TV: The Eleventh Hour) He runs out of the TARDIS to see a little girl without checking out where he is properly on a whim (TV: The Beast Below). Follows vampires just running away without telling the others (TV: The Vampires of Venice). Lands inside a pirate ship because he felt like it. (TV: The Curse of The Black Spot). He sits at the president's desk in the oval office (TV: The Impossible Astronaut) Impulsive wastes time and changes his clothes when he should be trying to stay alive (TV: Let’s Kill Hitler)
Like all the doctors he will talk fast and skip around often ending u talking mostly to himself. (TV: The Time of The Angel's, TV: The Curse of The Black Spot)  He’s aware he does it but still has trouble stopping it “Crikey, Charlie, look at that. Ooo, I know someone who'd love to have a look at that. And the Ponds. Mustn't forget the Ponds, Neffy. Haven't seen them in ages. I'm riffing. Sometimes completely zone into something and misses what people say. (TV: The Time of the Angels)

Which are your personal favourite DW eras and episodes, if Clara era turned you off a bit (a shame, I think S10 really did improve)?
I think anything from Donna to Amy/Rory was done well (series five was some of the best writing for a TV serial ever), and also think Martha was a very underrated series.  Although, series seven kind of started tanking, I think the Amy and Rory arc was closed well, if not for a few weak writing moments.
If I had to give it a go, here is a… not so brief list of my favorites from the seasons that I actually cared about (because… I love all of it, how could I not)
90% of the Christmas episodes; the 50th, etc
(Especially Time of the Doctor. If you compiled my tears at TOTD and TATM, you would have … maybe not an ocean, but at least a small Pond)
Season 8… I liked some, not notable enough that I could name.  Like, Danny died, that was sad I guess.
Season 7A
all of it
fight me, I loved it, it was the best 5 episode swan song a girl could ask for
Not them, Brian.  Never them.
The Rings of Akhaten (7x7)
The Name of the Doctor (7x13)
The Doctor’s Wife (6x4)
The Rebel Flesh/The Almost People (6x5/6)
A Good Man Goes to War (6x7)
The Girl Who Waited (6x10)
The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood (5x8/9)
The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang (5x12/13)
Seriously, this arc was amazing
The Fires of Pompeii (4x2)
Silence in the Library/The Forest of the Dead (4x8/9)
Stolen Earth/Journey’s End (4x12/13)
The Shakespeare Code (3x2)
Human Nature/The Family of Blood (3x8/9)
Tooth and Claw (2x2)
The Girl in the Fireplace (2x4)
Army of Ghosts/Doomsday (2x12/13)
The Long Game (1x7)
Father’s Day (1x8)
Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways (1x12/13)
I guess, for me, it isn’t specifically what episodes so far as what arc.  If the episode contributes to the overarcing plot that they’re delivering, I find myself more invested than not.  The whole standalone episode thing is nice, but it just isn’t what I watch the program for… and there are other shows that will give me what I want, now.  So it’s really hard to trust again!
I quit after a few episodes into series ten, but I’m tempted to get a nice ol’ bottle of wine and go back to it sometime.  The stars just haven’t aligned yet - I have so much else to watch! So little time. :)

Series 4 Episode 2: The Fires of Pompeii
Yooo is that a historical tragedy?? Pog!! Today we’re looking at the Fires of Pompeii, let's get into it.
Oh hey it’s the first historical of the series so we’re gonna go to 18/1900s UK and meet a historical fig- wait they DIDN’T DO THAT omg FINALLYYYY. It’s so refreshing to finally have a full historical set outside of the UK. Arriving in Pompeii on volcano day is such a great premise for a Dr Who episode and the setting just oozes personality.
And that’s not the only reason I love the way this episode approaches a historical, because even with the setting in mind, it avoids doing the one thing I hate the most out of a historical. Glorifying a historical figure for no real apparent reason. See Unquiet Dead, Tooth and Claw, Shakespeare Code, etc. Like this might just be me being a geography>history kinda girl but I just do not have much interest for famous brits from hundreds of years ago. And this episode, instead of focusing on a historical figure, focuses on a central conflict between our main cast:
Should we save Pompeii?
Doc says no, Donna says yes, we’ve got ourselves a character conflict. And it’s with this that we learn more about The Doctor and Donna. There are shades of the time lord victorious coming through now with The Doctor saying this is a fixed point “because he says so”. There’s a real arrogance about our hero heading into series 4 and this does get addressed in this episode. On the flipside, Donna shows herself to be incredibly compassionate towards these strangers around her. She shows herself to be very trusting, and can’t stand to sit back and watch as people die. This eventually leads to a middle ground where The Doctor finally decides to save a family. Just one family, but he saves them. He breaks his rules, and this will come back in a big way as he reaches his swan song.
I also love the concept of these villains. Giving the citizens of Pompeii psychic powers via rock n lava goes kinda hard as a villain concept. The Pyrovile don’t take centre stage during this story, but I don’t think they need to. This story isn’t about them, it’s about the choice that The Doctor has to make. Last episode had a villain (the nanny) that also wasn’t the centre of attention, but the issue with her was that I was left with more questions than answers. The Pyrovile however make more sense to me, and I wasn’t confused about them by the end of the story.
TL:DR/Overview: This is the real kickstart to Series 4. A historical that goes somewhere adventurous, and places our main cast in a strong conflict that runs throughout the episode, and the rest of 10’s run as a whole. Amazing setting, amazing focus, amazing cast. It’s S tier babyyyy. Also I’m moving Partners In Crime down to B tier, because if I don’t our top tiers are going to become wayyyyy too stacked ldfkhj.
Tumblr media
P.S: I’m gonna be away for a couple days as I’m heading back to my uni town to spend some time with a friend, so don’t expect another review until Saturday. Hope the sun wasn’t too oppressive for y’all and thanks for reading <33

My opinion of new series Doctor Who
Top Doctor
I love all the doctors in the new series, but I still prefer Peter Capald, even reviewing every episode. While I really like the ninth doctor,As he stayed only one season had no way to stay on top of the others, comparing how many different situations the other doctors suffered. The tenth and eleven were the most difficult to decide the positions, I love both, plus the tenth has several negative characteristics that I hate
1) 12
2) 11
3) 10
4) 9
Top Companion
Some characters surprised me as how much I liked. I did not remember that Rose was so fun and even with her various faults until I liked her more than I remembered, Donna I thought I would be better positioned since she has the best and More amusing relationship with the tenth doctor, but had forgotten how incredible Martha was, in several episodes she had to act alone to survive and save the day even with the tenth doctor treating her horribly and condescending several times. Rory and Amy did I did not remember how much I liked their relationship, and how beautiful it was Amy's relationship with the Doctor was, I liked her more than I expected. Clara I already knew that  would be in first place, I love your relationship with the doctor, its complexity, its flaws, is the most complex and developed character of the new series (Clara, we knows that she loves stories, she sees the life of her parents as a fairy tale, loves and wants to take care of children she has an authoritarian personality and tries to take control of the situation (I'm not just talking about their several episodes of the eighth season about this, but also looks to the end of The Bells of Saint John different from the other companions that when the Doctor are invited them to Tardis instead of jumping inside the Tardis she sends him come back the next day, she takes control of the situation and it shows that it will do the thing of traveling with him on her terms, she takes control of the situation instead of the Doctor who let her travel with him is the Doctor waiting to know if she will travel with him). I hate it when they say that Clara is too perfect, when she is the companion with more defects being quoted and who are important for the stories and their development, this does not make sense. Clara is my favorite companion of the new series and the most of the people completely lose the arc point of the Impossible girl: The whole point of her season 7 arc was The doctor realizes that he was wrong and she is only a normal person who later did something incredible, like Rose and Donna. Initially she tried to balance her normal life with the life With life with the doctor, And as Danny died it was as if there was nothing else that bound her to Earth, she saw herself as a protagonist of a book, she and Doctor were the heroes who could always save the day and escape the danger, of course it ended Being so equal to the Doctor who ended up dead, plus she and the Doctor forged such a deep bond and he this season (the ninth) was already tired of letting people die (Ashildr's bow, the girl's death in the bow of the underwater base ) and did not want to lose anybody else and with desire of revenge against the Time Lords he ended up going too far and breaking the laws of time and he brought her to life, plus what could end up breaking the universe, but he with his selfish did not want Give up saving Clara, so he had to erase his memories of her, and you can notice he learned the lesson that everything has to end an hour, that nothing is forever, in the at the The Husbands of River Song. Clara of course would return to Gallifrey, her final arc was a critique of the trope of killing of female character and that any person can be the Doctor, that he is not just a being, but an ideal that anyone can try to be, Idea that has several Moffat scripts, like Extremis, The Zygon Inversion, The Witch's Familiar and several others. . Bill, while I quite liked her, she was very simple, and I sincerely liked the others more than hers.
1) Clara
2) Rory
3) Martha
4) Amy
5) Donna
6) Bill
7) River Song
8) Rose
9) Nardole
10) Captain Jack
11) Mickey

Top Season Finale
One thing I prefer in the Moffat season finale is that it focuses on the characters' relationships with each other and their developments, how situations are dealt with, and are centered on the dialogues between the characters while those in Russell T Davies are more focused in action, how the situation affects the characters and their choices. In RT Davies are situations that are increasing, threatening the Earth or the Universe, while Moffat is the opposite, starts with a great threat, with several villains to become small situations, with only a few characters in one place, talking between they, in Davies the characters struggle with the external situation, in that of Moffat they struggle with their interior.

6- Army of Ghosts/Doomsday
7- Bad Wolf/The Parting of the Ways

There are no episodes that I did not like, for me, every episode goes from good to great. Actually it was very difficult to do the lists, because several episodes were good and great, so some positions were decided not only how much I liked, but by elements of the episodes.

3) The Unquiet Dead
4) Empress of Mars
5) Cold War
6) The Idiot's Lantern
7) Victory of the Daleks
8) Night Terrors
9) Sleep No More
I love Robot of Sherwood, I think it's a really funny episode, Clara was great, I loved the Doctor's dynamics with Robin Hood and had a great message about heroism and inspiration and fiction from the heroes. The Crimson Horror, I like to focus in the Paternoster gang, mostly in Jenny, and I loved Winifred Gillyflower and Ada, they were great characters. As of Cold War, the episodes for me are just regular. Victory of the Daleks and Sleep No More are not so bad episodes, both have good ideas and scenes, in Victory I liked the story of the scientist, the fact that nobody believed in the Doctor and in the end the daleks win, already in Sleep No More sincerely not I see what's so bad about this episode, it has a good idea, a good mood and a good ending, of course there are several things I would do differently, but there's nothing bad about the villan. The only one I do not like, that I hate is Night Terrors, I hated the kid in the episode and had several things that I think did not made sense. Overall I like Mark Gatiss, he did not write my favorites of the seasons but he is not such a bad roter as people say.
