I mean, needle fears are a completely different situation from disqualifying conditions. I am literally not allowed to give blood, nor are many of my friends and partners. It doesn't matter how much stress it is to book because they will not let us donate. Ever. That's not something I can do anything about, and it's frankly deeply frustrating. Every time this topic comes up I get lectured about how important it is and how there's a shortage and how I need to just get over whatever's stopping me, when what's stopping me and people like me is the fucking blood services' requirements.

fascinating that the opinion "if you can give blood, you should" is consistently met with different explanations about why you cant donate blood. okay. i believe you. im not going to ask you prove that to me in tumblr.lawcourt. you cant donate blood. some people cant donate blood for neutral reasons and for bad reasons. thats a different conversation. because, if you'll read the original opinion again you may notice that, this opinion comes with the qualifier "if you can give blood". you cant give blood. this isnt about you. if you believe that the reasons you cant give blood are wrong (many such cases), write your local blood center or appropriate representative. since you'd like to have an entirely different conversation than "if you can give blood, you should":

you are making the case that one should not advocate for people (who are able) to do a good thing because some people are not able to do that thing. if you actually give a shit about being wrongly excluded from giving blood, youre going to get a lot further working with the people who harp on about donating than getting pissy because believe it or not, the people who harp on about donating want more people to donate. we want it to be more accessible. we would also like for you not to be excluded for bad reasons.

you can have whatever feelings you like but im going to keep advocating for people WHO ARE ABLE TO to donate blood and learn cpr and practice the fire route in their building at least once and keep a geographically relevant disater kit and other mundane shit that will hopefully never be too significant but could be the difference between living and dying for you and others in a crisis. and i cant even say i have all of that because im in my early 20s and im broke and just a little burnt out but i still try where i can. probably only a firefighter has that actual whole list down. but especially with blood, it does a lot a good with or without a crisis and its the easiest one 🚨(for people who are able to donate)🚨.

i hate that so many people are wrongly excluded but if my tumblr post is enough to get one person who is able to donate to make one appointment, thats a win because that pint does some good. if it gets someone who cant donate unjustly to do something to organize to fix that, even better because thats a step towards even more pints.

if you disagree with any of this block me but youre going to hear people advocating for blood donations for the rest of your life because blood donations are an essential part of modern science and medicine. if you cant donate, nothing they say applies.

How can you tell when someone comes from a middle class background though? I feel like i am bad at seeing the signs but sometimes I do feel out of place at work and i am wonderin if its because I feel like they dont see me as one of them so how can i tell if they are middle class like what are some tell tale signs or characterstics these people have?

Keep in mind this is subjective and probably depends on the country etc. You can also change social class in a lifetime but here im mostly talking about someones background or the social class that they most assimilated into if they switched

In my experience middle class people tend to:

- Afford a comfortable lifestyle that they could potentially easily lose (by comfortable i mean have a house on mortgage, a car or several, leisure items etc)

- Tend to have a decadent or carefree financial life, live above their means, accrue debt, but somehow always land on their feet

- Expect to have a quality of life beyond basic needs (rent, bills, food)

- Typically can rely on family or a support network for financial or personal aid

- Generally familial type of abuse tends to be more subtle and hidden instead of blownout and spectacular but it depends

- Sometimes unaware that really bad things (abuse, trauma) can happen to people they know or around them

- Can afford or thinks its normal to afford going on vacation every year, has been to disneyland at least once etc

- Holidays spent with family are usually something to look forward to

Theres not one single person that squarely fits into this narrative. Its just sometimes i meet ppl and i can tell theyre not from the same bg.

As for my family when i was very young we were working class going on middle class and it just deteriorated exponentially with years.

I think if i have to pick just the most jarring difference to me in this list it would the expectation of a certain lifestyle.

When i started living on my own i had no real support network. I lived in a very tiny place (social housing) that about 70 to 80% of my salary covered. Ive been used to never buying anything expensive/nice and only buy cheap foods etc. I was living spending my money on virtually nothing other than basic needs and i still had money to spare that i mostly saved to have some stability and also cause i wasnt used to having it? Now im stable and this has evolved and i would qualify technically as middle class if my spouse was also employed or if i was single. But i still carry this idea that i can lose all of it and my threshold of expectation is lower than many ppl.

Thats just my personal biased opinion so idk if that helps, every persons situation is obviously different. Its incredibly hard to put it in words also and i dont know if i did a good job

okay so my last post got more love than i normally get so my adhd is telling me to completely ignore all the schoolwork i have to do and instead write more little things that nico would totally do, and not proofread any of it. just as soon as i finish typing hit post. so that’s what im going to do

there might be ToN spoilers in here idk im kind of just writing this as i think of things

but otherwise enjoy this part 2 of my thoughts and ideas

1.) nico would definitely get will a bunch of star wars stuff (it was revealed in ToN that will is a massive star wars fanboy and im so here for it) whenever he could. like birthdays, anniversaries, little obscure holidays that nobody even really celebrates, like national days that you make up on that website. nico would just be walking around the mortal world and ever time he would see star wars merch or collectibles he would try to buy something for will

2.) because of this, will has a big shelf by his bed in the apollo cabin dedicated to those funko pop figures that nico has gotten him over the years, and will would DEFINITELY be the kind of person to keep them in their original packaging, either that or he would have special display stands for each figure

3.) and every time nico walks into the apollo cabins and sees will’s shelf of Star Wars Things From Nico, he would get really happy inside because it meant that will really appreciated all nico’s efforts

4.) also can we please talk about how solangelo would absolutely do things with the younger campers, like teach them how to play pinochle (even though they aren’t very good at it themselves) and like will would bring board games to camp and he would spend hours with little kids playing candyland or monopoly or whatever. 

5.) this isnt relative to the rest of the post, but like i dont think solangelo has ever kissed? like not in BoO, not in any of the ToA books? and if they did and i somehow missed it can someone please? tell? me? but otherwise like what is rick waiting for please i need the nico series to be true so that maybe they will kiss

9.) and the first time they did a movie night, these little kids that were new to camp would kind of linger a few feet away, wanting to watch the movie with them, and so thats how nico and will ended up hosting monthly movie marathon nights with popcorn and mcdonalds

10.) also (for the sake of this lil headcanon please imagine that demigods can use phones) will would definitely put himself as an emergency contact in nico’s phone, and also set up all that medical info in the health app, just in case nico collapses or gets injured after a battle and is stuck in the mortal world and a mortal finds him, then they can contact will and he can get there ASAP or at least give the mortal directions for what to do

11.) i think if nico and will could have regular mortal jobs will would obv be a surgeon or some kind of awesome life saving doctor but then i dont really know about nico. like he could go down lots of different paths. but for the sake of NOT going off on a tangent and just sticking to giving u guys headcanons, i think nico wouldn’t really have a job, he would maybe just live in italy or france or somewhere with that aesthetic and sell things he makes or maybe run a little storefront (i realize that these qualify as jobs and yea but hear me out i’ll probably be able to take this somewhere) 

12.) and he would like sell little items and things and antiques, and if someone came into his shop and he had a good feeling about them, he might give the item to them for free or like give them a discount. like

13.) i’m kind of imagining an elderly italian lady coming into his shop and shes really nice and sweet and they talk a little bit and he decides to give her like an old necklace for free. idk that just so cute to me

14.) but back to actually possible things i 100% believe that nico and will would play pranks on each other and try to minorly inconvenience one another all the time. 

15.) like one time nico might take only half of wills socks, so none of them match

16.) and then to retaliate will set up an elaborate rube goldberg machine type thing with the help of the hermes cabin and percy and some mastermind athena kids so that when nico stepped outside of his cabin the next morning a massive bucket of water would be dropped on his head

17.) and they just go back and forth and they’re really competitive with each other but never in a mean way, like they never take it too far.

i dont know any 2s well enough to confirm the observations here but it rings true... 

3s do indeed quickly start talking about their projects and sometimes you can indeed spot them from just the smile. We had that one presenter in our uni course that was very, very obvious. 

Formulated more diplomatically, if a pronounced introvert shows up with bristly guarded energy & makes some contrarian comment, they’re definitely a 4 cause 9s don’t typically do this

I would describe this as being somewhat more absolute in their judgements, like my friend would say, “ppl who wear fashionable makeup are shallow!” as a blanket statement,  where I would’ve slapped some qualifiers on it so as to as not to say something incorrect (Some are shallow, especially the particular ppl we were mad at, but every single one? Probably not, and besides, I don’t know every single person with fashionable makeup well enough to speak confidently of their character.) - it needn’t even be a strong opinion; She’d just be incensed about the shallowness in society at that particular moment & having an emotion about it.

I had made some collages & a video which I considered sending in once i came by some $$ but i think i can save myself the trouble cause when i looked at the video watching for these criteria (the clip was made before i looked at this list, of course), i noticed that i did the supposedly 5-typical side glance, topic changes and interspersed jokes so darn often i might get self conscious about it... also, off pointe? rude! ...laugh at my nerd jokes please i dunno how else to make light conversation

its definitely true that you dont find out their opinion unless you wait/ask for it, or they’re very frustrated. 

thats definitely another distinguishing point vs. type 4. If they have opinions about video games or some elaborate fantasy it would be one of the first things you hear/ a go-to conversation topic, whereas with a 9 with the exact same hobbies you might see them playing games  or offhandedly mentioning fantasy stuff but you won’t hear the contents until you’ve known them a good while, if you put in the work to level up your friendship level, and even then they’ll narrate instead of rant unless they’re very frustrated. thats cause it serves mostly an internal purpose while the 4, as an image type, would show it (though they prolly wouldn’t consciously think of it as ‘showing’ & more as bursting out because whatever thing that sucks sucks so intolerably)

i admit im not the best bodylanguage observer i dont notice this stuff unless its obvious or i already know to look for it, with some of the points i cant identify what they mean. This is probably immensely more useful if youre a Sensor on the mbti

my love!!! i just sent you a rambling text message but as someone who lives by her coffee im excited to just....write you a nice message here and post it so if other people are considering getting espresso machines they can read my (not even remotely qualified) thoughts lmao

i have a nespresso machine because it was super convenient in the morning when i was actually going to the office. took a few seconds to have a really nice coffee made and i was saving money. thats not to say that i dont love it now. if anything i love it more. i have more time in the morning to explore the milk frother that came with it. yes, i know there are other and better espresso machines but this is fairly budget friendly and i appreciate how good it is for the environment. the pods are all aluminum and are sent back to the plant once theyve been used. last year they made aluminum bikes out of recycled pods. mostly the aluminum gets reused to make other pods. the left over coffee beans are turned into compost which they use to grow more trees. in the spring the receipts are printed on compost paper with seeds so you dont waste paper. they are very conscious of the environmental impact coffee has, and focus on supporting local farmers. so thats why i like them. yes im aware its still a major company and im sure if could do more research and find a small business better than this, but this is whats in my price range and the coffee variety for the pods is amazing. this is my machine.

alternatively, you could do the tried and true stove top espresso way. the bialetti moka espresso pot is simple and pretty fast. this is how my grandmother made her coffee, and this single item is the most nostalgic in the world for me because she was always making coffee. quite possibly the strongest espresso in the world lmao its really easy to clean and the espresso is extremely smooth. they also make a stove top milk frother that is affordable, and i recommend this too. its a manual pump, but the froth youre capable of creating is incredible.

ill make it clear none of these are truly ‘barista quality,’ but that doesnt mean you cant have amazing coffee at home. like i dont think anyone should pay over $300 just for some morning coffee. im lazy and dont like waking up and am not entirely a morning person, so the nespresso way of just hitting a button is ideal for me. if i had always been working from home, i probably would have the bialetti instead because its affordable and because youre not locked into specific pods you can find really incredible, rich, affordable coffee from anywhere. you could even splurge and have your beans imported. hell, you could even grind your beans at home should you choose to do that. i just dont think you need to spend huge amounts of money to enjoy coffee the way you want it. i use my nespresso everyday and froth my milk and have created so many different types of lattes. like ive learned how to make my own sweet syrups, learned how to mix and marry flavors, sometimes i add cinnamon or tiny chocolate chips to feel like im at starbucks. no matter what you do, youll be doing it right. xxx

Why Season 3 was a Rollercoaster of a mess. (Spoilers!)

Oooooooh boy where do I even begin

Lets start from the beginning i Suppose

When Miraculous Ladybug first came out i fell in love with the series. I thought the premise was nice, the characters ok and the story interesting. Well, to be fair I didnt expect much of the story due to being in its first season, but I loved it. The finale was meh (the last episode, not the mid-series Origins story, I watched it on Netflix). I liked the series. I loved the fandom. And i Couldn’t wait for season 2 at the time.

Then season 2 came out

As i started watching the first ep of season 2, it started out strong, answered a question i already knew, but then... it didn't go any further. See, when I expected season 2, I expected the story to be taken up a notch, the plot to become stronger, new and interesting characters to be introduced, and for someone to replace Hawkmoth as the antagonist (bc in my mind, he always felt like a season 1 antagonist to be replaced one season later by the actual main antagonist, and the mayura leaks did not help). 

But it never came. The story remained simple and eventually started to become bland. All episodes were all single-story eps with no correlation to each other other than the characters in them. Every single character in the show that wasnt Marinette had any sort of character growth, and I could take any one of the episodes out other than the first and last two and it wouldn't have any impact. Maybe not all of them, but some.

(This was the same time I learned that all episodes in the series were meant to always be single episode storylines. It was the same time I learned the the shows creator was also an ASS-truc, but thats a story for another day)

So for season 2, I ended up starting to find the show boring and lackluster. Most of the episodes were boring and unentertaining, and aside from a select few, such as the finale, the new hero eps and a few others, the entire season was boring to heck. 

Worse still, Marinette went from an ok nice girl (who was at times a bit of an arse) to a stalker asshole who was at times worse than Chloe. 

(Then again, the first episode of the entire series literally had Marinette have a planner used to track Adrien's every move, so what the hell do i know)

The fandom, however, was still amazing at the time, so I stuck around. The fanfics were amazing at the time and the fandom was still so kind-hearted

Luckily for me, Season 3 would manage to have some much better episodes.

But at what cost.

WHAT. COST.

See, while Season 3 was undoubtedly better that season 2 overall in episode quality, this season was probably also the worst of all 3 at the same time. This season was not only the worst in overall season quality but the one that entirely ruined the fandom for me. The plot was again non-existent and there was still no character development, but they manage to make this season better by making a plotline that required all characters to be an idiot ball, then ditch it at the end just so Thomas could again insult people on twitter.

Lets start with the first episode of Season 3: Chameleon

Sometime before the production of season 2 and 3, Asstruc learned how to write someone as a martyr people would feel pity for that character and want to protect (read: stan) them.

So naturally, Ass-truc would abuse this a lot.

In the first ep of season 3, Astruc would create the worst episode ever made. 

The premise of the episode is that Lila has returned to school and has been telling lies, which makes Marinette mad. None of the class believes her due to everyone being written as an idiot (seriously the someone gotta has google on their smartphones everyone has), so of course, Naturally Mari confronts Lila, who swears to ruin her life before and after an akuma battle which doesnt really matter for this episode, aside from the fact that Lila fully works with hawkmoth because being a bad kid means that working with a terrorist is perfectly reasonable if you can get revenge on the good guys.

So, including the fact Ass-truc reintroduced Lila back into the show as a Chloe 2.0 to making everyone an idiot ball so that the writing could even work, this will be the episode that I will hate the most. And not just for the episode itself. We’ll come to that later. But the point is, this is how most of the season would go:

-Lila: *exists*

-Marinette: *cries* im suffering so much, my life is ruined!

-Fans: stan to the point of insanity

-Me sipping my salt flavored tea: b*tch calm the f*ck down.

Speaking of Marinette, the Miraculous team had already been hellbent on making Marinette more of an asshole, stalkery and creepy and passing it off as cute in season 2, so they decided to fix that by dialing all that shit up to 11. Episodes like Weredad and Oni-chan really showed this, with the former having Marinette Literally manipulating Chat Noir to be stuck in a bad situation just for her own sake, and latter literally having her try to break into Adriens house because Lila is there. All for the excuse that Lila is a Liar and totally not because she is with Adrien, Marinette cant be jealous because Marinetteisperfectandamazingand-

Yeah, she really sucks as the main character. TBH I'm waiting for the spinoff show where Alix and Kim dare each other to do stupid stuff each episode like its MTV’s Jackass, it's gonna be fun.

Now onto the Other episodes!

While I will admit that compared to season 2, there were a lot of good episodes. Gamer 2.0, Feast, Ikari Gozen, Party Crasher, and of course the heart-wrenching Oblivio come to mind. These episodes are amazing and show how good the episodes are when you make sure the garden gnome is locked in a closet somewhere during episode development.

So out of the 26 episodes, 5 of them were really good.

The rest were either kinda ok or complete shit. That's not to say they were all bad, but there were just some parts... at best there was either a part of it I found cringeworthy too much for me to consider it as one of the good ones, such as Pupetteer 2 with its Adrien Statue scene, or at worst all of it was just written so badly, such as the entirety of Stormy Weather not actually being an episode and acutally being just and episode recap.

Now for the plot. Oh, wait, what plot?

First of all, Miraculous never had one. At best it was just a bunch of single-episode stories that Ass-truc wants you to think are connected somehow and somehow all work together as a cohesive story. A lot of the characters in Miraculous Ladybug

You mean the overarching storyline where Marinette becomes a Guardian just because she can pick a hero? Yeah, just ignore the episode where Fu said he had to spend an entire childhood learning how to even be an apprentice Guardian, or ignore the fact that picking a person to be a hero doesn't make Marinette qualified to be Guardian in a slightest!

(If someone literally has to ask me this, ask yourself if a pharmacist is fit to be a doctor just because they hand out your meds.)

What about the storylines about other certain characters in the show like Lila, who the show has been building up to be a villain while casually destroying characters' intelligence to be able to do so? The story about Chloe accepting that she can’t really be a hero anymore and moving on?

Ruined by the Finale.

Oh yeah, the finale.

This season Finale was probably the worst finale out of all the seasons and half the stuff done in the last two episodes did not make sense. I dont want to talk about it much because I want to do a blog post about it later on, but for the sake of the finale, they ruined a bunch of characters, martyred Marinette for the 100th time, and created some stupid plot ideas for the sake of coolness. And by coolness i mean stanning Marinette again and making her extra special. Doesnt matter if it makes a contradiction or makes no sense. Stupidity has won this episode!

To be fair though, all the reasons above aren’t the reasons I hate this season.

The reason for season 3 being the worst for me is how it had ruined the fandom.

Ever since the first episode of season 3, the fandom has become a cesspool of salt and anger. Character bashing because the class didn't straight up agree with Marinette instantly, Over the top Marinette stanning, fanfics that go over the top crazy, it has gone insane. On ao3 most fanfics of ML that i have seen have been about ‘Chameleon Fix-Its’ where Lila is metaphorically shot with a GAT, ‘Marinette protection Squads’ which basically involve her moving schools because Lila exists, and the Maribat ship that has made my head dent my desk (seriously where the fuck did it come from?!). Worst still, as a result of Season 3, the Adrien hate has started to go crazy as a result of the Chameleon episode and similar eps resulting in Marinette being shipped with Luka (aka the better Adrien as stated by Marinette stans), Felix before the Felix episode dropped, and even Damien Wayne in the Notorious Maribat ship (no seriously where did it come from i want answers!). To put it simple, thanks to Ass-truc all of ao3 is filled with salt fics and no more original and interesting stories.

BTW while i have your attention and am talking about good Miraculous stories on ao3, go read Miraculous Tales by JED1 on AO3 its soo damn good.

To be fair, I myself am angry at the episode, but only because everyone was written to be an idiot ball for the episode to work, and because of the fact Astruc used the episode to rile up the fandom to be almost as toxic as him.

If anything, its the number one reasons why i hate seasons 3 and the reason why it has ruined the fandom for me.

And that, overall, is why i think Season 3 was a Rollercoaster of a mess.

also i talked about my scifi story for like half an hour (to myself, natch) and figured out that a good way to handle the AB thing is not to have A decide to ruin the plan out of nowhere by trying to get back to the army base, setting off the system and putting B at risk because Oh Shit. its to have A be arrested for like. hacking and shit, planetside. And, of course, they take ID in that arrest (which would place the criminal mark next to B, whose only crime has been impersonation with permission and some minor licensing shenanigans that come from that), but they also take dna/biometric data, because, yknow, Fake Ids, etc. and yknow, they get the data from A, and it shows up as them being A, and everyones like :T HMMM. A is adamant that they are B, but their colleagues who were arrested with them kinda fuck that by referring to them as A (yknow, Shenanigans).

meanwhile B is at space bace. tries to call A like they’ve been doing semi-regularly, fails. assumes theyre busy. next day, tries again, fails, decides to call their younger bro, who goes ‘yea they got arrested by the govt’ ‘they WHAT? Put mum on the line!’ and all that ensues. they don’t tell B what A did (mum says ‘i dont think im allowed to tell you’) but B is panicking. because Oh, Fuck. the best case scenario is that they assume A is B and B gets a criminal recod, but that fucks over B, who is currently pretending to be A, so like, what are they supposed to do? How long are they going to have to pretend to be A, and will they want to swap back at all if it means suddenly having a record for crimes they didn’t commit? the more likely outcome is that they figure out the switch, and oh GOD, OH NO.

Before the army base can be properly informed about the ongoing Situation (info was delayed because A demanded a lawyer, as you do) B gets sent on another mission with the squad, which helps put their actions into an emotional context. Explains why, when seeing D charge up a terrifying direct hit to a stationary C (whose ship had already been hit and was essentially ‘floating’ while she tried to manually fix one of the broken systems), B goes ‘fuck that’ and does a manual lightspeed jump to intercept the shot, which breaks through their shields and sends them fucking careening off into the void of space because getting hit at near light speed fucks you up real good. like, okay, fucking incredible maneouver, would have worked significantly better if the summonable shields for standard class weren’t Not Super Great, and also if D hadn’t fucking charged shot the bastard. fucking nyoom off into the void, 90% of the reason B fucking blacks out during that is that they got hit on an angle and fucking corkscrewed into the void like babe no amount of gravity stabilisers on the inside are gonna prevent you from wanting to vom, and thats assuming the gravity stabilisers weren’t fucked with IN THE HIT.

i guess the broad strokes is that A gets arrested, and before B can be like, questioned about it re:identity, they get fucked up real good on the last mission because part of them goes ‘if im gonna go to prison after this i might as well go to prison having saved my friends life’ and boom bitch, an unconscious pilot in a corkscrewing spaceship rocketing away from the encounter because theres noone at the wheel to hit the brakes. wild. theyre fine, as soon as L sees whats happened and processes what the FUCK just happened they basically immediately go ‘OH SHIT’ and completely disengage from the fight with D to chase after B’s runaway ship. shenanigans, etc etc, eventually everyones safe and back at base and B’s out fucking cold in the med bay and then like the resolution of that whole thing happens i guess? the fact A is not in orbit sorta messes with the original idea which is that both A and B would fly together, but A’s kinda under arrest for hacking like govt secrets of something trying to uncover the truth behind the DECAF ambush (i love that thats the acronym for the squad it kills me so bad) which means that if the story is entirely set in space, A never actually physically makes an appearance, which is hilarious. does complicate matters because its like, okay, so we’ve gotten a confession from B that they are, in fact, not A, and that they have committed that Worst of Crimes, impersonation with permission. at that point the folks have a few options. Jail B for ~crimes~, or let B continue to fly. Their squad would probably argue in their defence, with C’s testimony on the matter being particularly important from a procedural and emotional standpoint, since C has flown with both A and B. And that previously, C had something of a falling out with B where she almost accused them of being a different person. its more complex than that, but its like. yknow. turn around. willing to recognise the good in it, provided she eventually gets answers from the actual A, which B promises to set up once A isn’t, yknow, in lock up. And they’d be looking at B’s record, noting that they are a qualified pilot and attended flight school before transferring out to becoming a mechanic, that their criminal record is clean bar this shenanigannery and the confusion re: A’s hacking, and that their actual flight record during their time pretending to be A is. pretty fucking solid. Like. B has done nothing wrong aside from impersonate someone, and beyond that has just. done their job. they’ve followed orders, they’ve saved people, they’ve taken down enemy combatants, etc etc. and they go ‘you know what? we dont have the luxury of time to slot a new person into that squad to replace you, and so on, so forth, do fuck it! you can stay! but the moment things ebb, you will be on the first ship back to the planet to be dealt with’ and B’s like That’s Honestly Better than I thought that would go, so that works.

the only bit about all this thats iffy is trying to make sure A is still... relevant? that their presence, their actual presence, it felt somehow, so that all the shenanigans don’t come from nowhere. and also to have the information A obtained from The Hackening be useful somehow. like, its about the DECAF thing, and proves something about the incident, like that the space fleet knew D’s ship was active the entire time and did nothing about it, or some shit. thats the issue, cause i feel like being able to know anything about that incident requires explaining what D’s motives are, since its presumably tied into The Truth, and i dont knooow

like personally i’ve seen as far as employment/industry/social networks there’s really obvious ways different people are encouraged & discouraged from certain sectors

for example at one local shelter theres a ton of posters for: hospitality and hotel training! get a food service and prep job! opportunities for home health aides! fast ged --- which i am not necessarily criticizing their existence or targeting towards homeless youth bc obviously young ppl in shelters are a lot more in need of money, now, short term, than someone whos chillin in their parents basement or in a place bought on the family dime or is paying their way with a well paying job that 99% of folx in shelters do not have

anyways. do u think these same posters are up in the mostly-upper/upper-middle-class, suburban public school near me? nah. those kids get posters for shit like- is a medical career right for you? college essay editing, sat prep courses. at no point are they encouraged into these sorts of low-wage physical jobs with little opportunity for advancement. no ones posting these sorts of posters there and those kids are not asking for these opportunities.

but then you also have things like, for example, at this point i know a decent amount of people in non profit, government, social service, education types of things. because these are really to a large extent the only fields where low income college educated people are encouraged to go. as i am looking towards grad school in like math/cs that shits mostly exclusionary towards me & my experiences. social service type things more actively recruit people like me & consider different backgrounds. and are more open to considering experiences outside the norm and understanding that they can assess aptitude in ways that are more open to people who are lower income, don’t have social networks that allow them access, etc. which is great. 

but what it means is that i am in many ways encouraged towards something that, first off, is not what i would like to do, but second and with larger implications are fields with demonstrably worse working conditions, lower pay, worse benefits.

so what i’m saying is that even though i almost have a degree and have some level of “professional��� experience, i (and lozza ppl like myself) still feel like the options i have are not the same as they would be for someone of greater income with the same degree and same experience. in fact if i had the same exact interests but more resources i probably would have all my “professional” experience in the fields of math/cs and the mismatch wouldn’t even be a problem

this is not the most coherent thing i’ve written but it’s been so bugging me. it’s an almost ghettoization of low-income people. it’s like, okay, you are (kinda) allowed into the “professional” class. but you’re not really welcome, you have to stay over there at least partially. you must continue to work with and for low-income & homeless people, and be paid significantly less than others and face worse working conditions. if you would like to do something else, that is too bad. we have determined you are not qualified, and you cannot become qualified because our qualifiers overtly and covertly strongly prefer people with greater resources than yourself. 

to be clear i think working with and for low income people is great and thats why i do and have done it. and frankly i often get so annoyed working with middle/upper class people and yuppies and such. but at the end of the day it should be my choice if i want to do that or continue to do that. and its really bullshit that my options in many ways seem to be “continue your shit low pay service sector jobs” or “be at the lowest paid end of the ‘professional’ class and have the least options for movement within or between” whereas for many people with more resources they have many more options than i do

and all of this is not to say that it is impossible for me to get a decent job in like pharma or tech or whatever. BUT it is certainly a) more difficult for me than getting myself a job in social service or b) more difficult than it would be for someone with more resources

like maybe im just rediscovering the wheel of the reproduction of wealth and reproduction of poverty here lmao. i mean i fully recognize and strongly prefer my upcoming situation to my current, which is “which shit service sector employer who almost universally wanna break labour laws and pay u less than minimum wage do u want to work for with no vacation almost no sick leave shit benefits” etc. just to say that even when you’re out you’re not out.

chaewon!! stood out to me the most when i first watched izone and i was like wow is this second generation of chungha? everyone thinks im crazy for thinking she has a chungha aura but i will stand by this no matter what

out of all the members, i think chaewon was literally the ultimate diamond in the rough that pd48 found. seeing her on stage is like seeing a fish in water no matter what concept they do, no matter where she is in the formation, she just draws in attention and i love that. i think there was a meme going on before with a clip of chaewon in the lver mama practice that was like ‘when it’s group work but individual marks’ lol yes that is chaewon always. out of all the members, chaewon would be the member i would feel most safe having on my team because of this consistency and versatility.

it’s especially noticeable in lver mama ver, but i think in any performance, if you focus on chaewon, you can hear the music through her dancing more than any other member. its more noticeable in lver because at eunbi and chaeyeon’s parts, if you watch each member individually… i think you’ll understand what i mean

imo chaewon has a talent in dance that got discovered from being in pd48. it’s pretty clear that this kid doesn’t have any dance foundation beyond learning choreo for covers or izone songs. i remember watching idol room where they had to do some basic footwork for some freestyle dance? and chaeyeon was killing it because it’s a move that we all have to learn LOL. but i was so so SO surprised that chaewon didn’t know how to do it at all!! and she couldn’t figure it out quickly!

that’s when i remembered how hard of a time the ‘to reach you’ group had trying to learn their choreo. i remember watching them perform it the first time in front of the teachers and thinking wow this is so boring you kids gotta put some textures in… and then they got roasted the hell out of for that exact thing LOL (to be honest the pd48 teachers are definitely very qualified to teach and help the kids grow. whenever i see a comment like ‘it wasnt even that bad the teachers are mean’… sorry bro the teachers are spot on. but thats a story for another day). anyway… the point of talking about pd48 is… chaewon became izone’s master of textures after that day and im really impressed… it probably takes her a lot of practice

imo the main thing that chaewon should work on is dancing bigger and projecting her presence on stage. when she takes center in lver dance break, it’s clean, but she seemed pretty small in both presence and moves compared to chaeyeon (and it didn’t help that yujin, who dances pretty big, was beside her lol). she also doesnt use her torso that well for moves besides body rolls and chest/hip isolations. but think of it like this. you extend your arm sideways using just your arm, and you can only get so far. if you use your core to push your arm out more along with your chest, your arm can go even further. if chaewon learns to do this, i think more people will start noticing her talent for dance. it would also help if she learned if she increased the reach of her chest isolations. (a lot of dancers think they can’t do this because they don’t have a chest size like eunbi but it’s really all about how far you push your shoulder blades together (for chest out) or apart (for chest in)).

thanks for coming to my essay! now that i have your attention, i think we should stop talking about anti-vaxxers like theyre all backwards hyper-religious dumbasses. like, im frustrated too, and i agree that "personal/religious reasons" should not allow someone to keep their kids unvaccinated. furthermore, as an autistic person, i despise the myth that vaccines cause autism. i especially hate that it scares people into avoiding vaccines, because theres nothing wrong with me.

but ridiculing these people will only make the problem worse, and here's why: i think that a lot of anti-vaxxers and their communities are used to feeling like the most important aspects of their cultural identities are universally mocked or demonised (im not qualified to say whether these feelings reflect reality in every case, but either way im just talking about feelings, ie, what people think we believe about their culture). for instance, my only knowledge of amish people comes from jokes ive seen others make about them. yes, none of these jokes were very serious, and its easy for me to laugh at them because im not amish, but despite my low empathy i can understand that it just feels bad to hear a whole bunch of jokes about something important to you. i'll get back to this point in a moment.

anyway, i bring up the amish because in 2014, there were measles outbreaks in some amish communities in Ohio. and i think that a lot of the people who dont vaccinate their kids are used to being ridiculed for their "weird" or "new age" or "hyper-religious" or "unchristian" lifestyles, so they just see our concern as more of that mockery. we all sound the same to them, and cant you see why?

we need to make the effort to approach anti-vaxxers in a way that distinguishes us from those who only converse with them to mock them.

i want more people to understand that the best way to change someone's mind when they're defensive is by listening. you need to be willing to accept whatever they might rant about, and respect that, even if their fears seem ridiculous, even if their fears are rooted in ableism, their fears still terrify them. thats why theyre called fears. you can validate someone's feelings of anxiety and confusion without validating their bigotry, and you must be willing to accept that this is work. this is difficult. it's much, much harder than yelling your opinions. it's exhausting, and sometimes it doesn't even pay off. sometimes you just can't convince somebody, and you have to be able to accept that.

if this seems too hard for you, i have good news: you do not have to do it. this kind of thing is not for everyone, and it's okay if you just don't want to. this doesn't have to be your responsibility.

i only ask that you stop making things worse by (performatively, in the case of yall who arent in danger of dying/losing a loved one to a preventable disease) mocking anti-vaxxers, because we are the ones who need something from them. we are asking them to face their fears (which were sometimes instilled in them very early in their childhood) for the good of humanity. i don't know about all of you, but i'd be hesitant at best to face even my third worst fear (spiders) for the sake of strangers who regularly mock my culture and heritage, and i know for a fact that most spiders cannot harm me!

this is natural. this is human. it is easy to dismiss things you dont understand, and it's even easier to dismiss them when all the scientific evidence agrees with you. however, your evidence does not make these people's experiences and fears less real for them. it does not lessen the effect their fear has on their choices. knowing that a tarantula won't hurt me if i follow certain guidelines will not stop me from shaking and having a breakdown if i think too hard about touching one. knowing that nothing bad would happen doesn't motivate me to go over to the science building at my college and ask to hold their fucking tarantula.

there are no shortcuts here. if we want anti-vaxxers to accept vaccines and stop putting so much effort towards keeping their children unvaccinated, we have to convince them that they don't need to be afraid of vaccines. we need to actually address their concerns. telling them their fears are ridiculous is just not convincing no matter how much scientific evidence you have. this discussion has become too performative. people just tell anti-vaxxers to vaccinate their kids, and they dont bother to address the fear that motivates their opponents. they don't care that they're asking people to trust a yelling internet stranger with their child's health.

it is inconsiderate to demand things from people without stopping to think about what you're asking for. please think about it from their point of view. if vaccines were dangerous, and they vaccinated their kids, then anything bad that happened to their kids due to the vaccines would be their responsibility. and remember, these people have not been given a convincing reason to believe vaccines are harmless. okay? they do not want to be at fault for their children getting hurt. yes, they are wrong. yes, they are frustrating. yes, they are endangering immunocompromised people like my dad, but there is a huge difference between being malicious and being misguided. please do not treat them like they set out to hurt you.

also? stop telling them to care about other people when you don't care enough about them to respect that they're doing their best with the resources they have. stop saying "i dont know how to explain to you that you should care about other people" when you really just want them to magically stop being scared. maybe you say it out of genuine frustration and bewilderment, but when everyone is saying it, it comes across like a smug 'gotcha!' phrase that excuses you from spending more energy on the debate. you can just say youre tired and stop.

i am trying to explain to you that you should care that these people have felt scammed/hurt by the medical industry enough times that they feel justified in risking the health of their whole family (assuming they even think vaccines work). you should care that theyve never been given a convincing reason to trust remedies promoted by rich strangers who make claims that sound too good to be true. the government has promoted harmful things to underprivileged people before, like milk (it took me a half hour to sift through unrelated stuff about soy milk to confirm this, so i'll go ahead and link my source). it is logical to mistrust an industry that operates for the profit of people youve never met. not everyone trusts the FDA to keep the pharmaceutical industry in check, and it's actually pretty smart to rely on direct accounts from people you know personally when you aren't sure how well something actually works, and you dont trust the ones selling it to you.

with that in mind, talking to people is probably the best way to tackle this issue, but many of you haven't bothered to compile introductory information about vaccines. you havent bothered to present these resources in a way that doesn't ridicule people who are scared. i am trying to explain to you that you shouldn't debate with people if you won't treat them like humans. i am trying to explain to you that "you dont actually care about others" is a hurtful and manipulative sentiment, and when you say it to people who are trying their best, you become part of the problem. you reinforce their mistrust. i am trying to explain to you that trusting doctors doesnt make you morally superior.

put yourself in their shoes for a moment. imagine that someone comes up to you and makes it clear that they think the choices you've made as a parent are ridiculous. they make claims about your child without offering proof, or the only proof they offer also mocks you and people like you (or they just tell you to "google it"). furthermore, they tell you that unless you give in, something bad will happen to their own children, and it will be your fault.

this is manipulative. even if you are correct, it is manipulative. demanding that someone treat their child in a way that they consider harmful is just ridiculous and i don't know why you expect people to listen to you. do you expect this to be easy? do you honestly believe that if someone isn't converted within minutes, they're just being stubborn? do you think these people know the truth, and only persist out of spite?

these questions are necessary, because many of you talk about anti-vaxxers as though the answer is 'yes.' there is a difference between being correct and treating people right. please be more aware of that line in the future, and do your best not to cross it.

oh, and by the way, if i see any of you using this year's measles outbreaks as an excuse to be hateful towards jewish people, i will block and report you. antivaxxers usually arent malicious, and if you perceive orthodox jewish antivaxxers as being worse than other antivaxxers, you need to rethink your beliefs. they arent rejecting vaccines just to hurt you. maybe theyre tired of being demonised and blamed for everything from climate change to unemployment to dead kids*, and theyre unwilling to trust random people with something as important as the health of their children when a lot of us have never bothered to listen to their struggles. lastly, all of this criticism of anti-anti-vaxxers is very easy for me to say because i have less of a personal stake in the issue. i know it must hurt in a way i can't currently understand to lose someone to a preventable disease. if i have made anyone feel dismissed or invalidated in this essay post, i'm sorry for doing so, and i want to make it clear that it is okay if you hate anti-vaxxers. i know their fear has hurt you, and i wouldn't ask you to pretend otherwise. i dont want to make any of you feel like you shouldn't talk about your experiences and fears. i'm just asking that, before you hit the post button, you read through your post and edit out anything manipulative or guilt-trippy. your contributions to this conversation are valuable, and i want the people youre trying to convince to be able to read them without feeling like they have to defend themselves instead of listening to you. the culture around this debate has become almost hostile, and while we dont all need to work directly with anti-vaxxers to make it better, we do all need to agree to stop making it worse.

Hello all I do not enjoy writing this journal, in all honesty im disgusted. But this is a serious situation. TLDR: Dad's a fucking ass, shitton of debt he's in, if anyone can spare anything...i literally beg of you, even if its 50cents! This is an absolute clusterfuck and i'm at wits end here. Dad's been getting final notice calls and letters and we're at risk of having our stuff taken away by debt collectors! I've recently been made aware that i can get around that so long as i can prove whats mine and my mums, but what we wont get around is if the creditors want to take the house! Which they can! PECKHAM’S KELECHNEKOFF STUDIO OFFERS FITNESS CLASSES RANGING FROM POLE-DANCING TO TWERKING TO YOGA. We meet its inspirational founder – the personal trainer, actress and Peckham resident Kelechi Okafor

I don’t think you could find anyone prouder to be a south Londoner than Kelechi Okafor. Born in Nigeria, she arrived to join her mother in Peckham at the age of five and the area has been her home ever since.

Describing herself as a ride or die Peckhamite, she not only lives locally, but has also established her Kelechnekoff fitness studio here.

Kelechi is a fierce, fun and fabulous woman, with boundless energy, who sees her remit as one of reclaiming the narrative about what it means to be a strong black female in the age of social media.

Her studio, based in the Sojourner Truth Centre on Sumner Road, offers everything from yoga to pole-dancing to twerking. Why twerking?

“One of the things I wanted from having a space like this,” she says, “is to allow women across the board to be tender and engage fully with their bodies.

“Because society has hyper-sexualised the female body so much, and the black female body specifically, there are women who just want to be as far away from that narrative as possible, not understanding that our power lies in the sexuality and sensuality of being a woman. That’s what I want us to take back.”

As an actor, director and personal trainer who specialises in twerk and pole-dance fitness, it’s been a challenging road to get to where she is today – from the homelessness she experienced as a teenager to supporting her mother and brothers, to depression, therapy, having to integrate into a new family when she first arrived in the UK, childhood sexual abuse and a lot more.

She has survived and is very open about her personal journey to date, particularly on social media. No topic is off limits – black issues, police brutality, mental health, her own recent miscarriage.

She has amassed a following of almost 35,000 people on Twitter, with a further 12,400 followers on Instagram. Where did her fascination with social media start?

“It was probably around 2013, when the shift started happening and I just felt that we had something here that allowed us to communicate with everybody, worldwide,” she says.

“I’ve always been a writer, and when Twitter came along I just took to it, because I thought, ‘This is a space where I can say what I’m thinking and I can put it out there as a form of microblogging.’

“I joined it when hardly anyone else was on there and I remember when the influx of celebrities started joining us. I thought, ‘There goes the neighbourhood, they are going to ruin everything!” she laughs.

“But it has changed and I’ve changed with it, as I saw how it allowed us to have our own voice separate from the narrative that we were getting from the media.

“I feel that this is where the power is. It’s an opportunity for me, Kelechi, to give you an alternative narrative to what you’d normally get from the mainstream.”

But in being so outspoken across her social media platforms, has there been a cost? “Yes, there has been, but I think that for anything that matters to you, there is always a sacrifice,” she says.

“Occasionally I will go online and there will be someone calling me a black b**** or a black this. Sometimes I save the tweets. Perhaps one day I’ll take it to court and then they’ll have to show up and explain that email or tweet they sent. But it hasn’t really got there.

“I did have horse manure sent to me in the first small studio I opened in Clapton, though,” she remembers ruefully.

“I had been speaking that weekend about the appropriation of black culture by mainstream pop artists.

“I was pointing out that when it’s ‘appropriation’, there’s always someone with more power who benefits from it financially. If it was ‘appreciation’, the person who has less of the power should be benefiting from it but they’re not.

“I was explaining that and someone got extremely upset with something I said, because soon after, I got horse manure posted to me anonymously.

“Although,” she laughs, “it didn’t even offend me because it was so well packaged and 100 per cent organic.”

What was the response to that experience from her social media followers?

“I have a lot of black female followers who care about my safety and care about my wellbeing. So, someone wrote an article for BuzzFeed about it, which basically helped promote my studio.

“Many people, men and women, sent me flowers and books of poetry including one by Maya Angelou. I just received so much love.”

Whatever the challenges she has faced in life, keeping fit has always been her way of working through issues.

“I’ve always been active and into sports”, she says. “Growing up, I played football and netball. It was stuff I didn’t have to try hard at, it was just a skill that I had.

“I had wanted to be head girl at school but my teacher thought I was too boisterous for that, so she said I could be sports captain instead.”

Her love of sport comes not just from her innate ability, but also from the discipline that it requires.

“When I was in secondary school I joined the air cadets. All I’ve ever yearned for, after not seeing it in the family home, is discipline. I like routine and structure.

“I think we were in year eight when we had a talk from the air cadets. And I thought, ‘Yeah, that’s it, I’m becoming an air cadet.’”

True to form she worked hard at it and for her, “the psychological part of the training gave me a break from being the one who did everything at home and having to be in control of everyone. I wanted and needed that break.”

Alongside fitness, her other passion is acting. It was a choice of career that her mother was dead set against.

“I can understand why,” she muses. “If you’re losing your home and don’t have a regular job, what you want for your children is a steady job. You want to know that they will never suffer or want for anything. Mum was like, ‘Just be a lawyer, you are such a great orator’.”

As a compromise, Kelechi found a course that would allow her to study both drama and law at Liverpool Hope University.

“I’d never been to Liverpool before,” she says, “but that’s the only place which was offering that degree.”

Coming back to London, she started working at a call centre and found it soul destroying.

“I remember going through London Bridge one day and just thinking, ‘There has to be something I can do where I’m not at the mercy of this corporation’. And I just thought, ‘I’ll become a personal trainer’. Fitness was the thing I loved most after acting.

“I saved up my money from my job, paid for a distance learning course and then I did lots of work experience in different gyms.”

Her business took off straightaway, courtesy of her followers on social media.

“When I did qualify, there were already women on Twitter and Instagram who were like, ‘Just come and train me’.

“So I went into that and that’s when I started to see the kind of freedom and flexibility that I could have access to without being at the mercy of big corporations.”

Her personal background means that she has a real desire to see women embrace who they truly are, not just physically but also emotionally and spiritually.

“What I really want for women to understand, especially when it comes to our bodies, is that we only have this one body,” she says.

“When I start training people, I want them to understand that there’s nothing I can do that’s going to make them more beautiful.

“I can get you slimmer if that’s what you really want. I can get you more toned, but none of these things are actually going to make you more beautiful, because it’s not really based on what you look like.

“[It’s about] getting my clients to understand that to me, personal training is 80 per cent psychological and emotional, and 20 per cent physical.

“You didn’t come to me because you care about your fitness, not really. There’s something else that’s happening there. What is that thing?

“If we talk about that ‘thing’, then the fitness doesn’t feel so bad. I’ve had women and men break down into tears when we’ve been having a session because I will say things like, ‘I just feel today that you’re holding a lot in’.

“I can feel it and then they let that out. And that’s what they needed. Then they feel safer because they know that I will spot it if they’re holding a lot that day and we taper the session to create space for them.”

She’s irritated by men who try to dominate in gyms. “I’ve had it myself when I’ll be training at the gym and a guy who clearly knows nothing about fitness comes up to me, just because I’m a woman, and says, ‘So when you’re doing this you really want to do it like this.’

“Wait, you’re telling me, the actual professional, how to do it?! And then they often have the temerity to say, ‘Don’t grow too much muscle though, because you don’t want to look like a man.’”

She dislikes the way Christmas and the new year are promoted to us commercially.

“It’s interesting to me how around Christmas time, the focus in adverts is on massive turkeys, chocolates etcetera, pushing a form of gluttony on us.

“Then as soon as January hits, it’s ‘You, disgusting fatty, get to the gym, get fit’, and I just think that we have to pull ourselves out of that. We are being sold one thing while being beaten with another. What does that do to your self esteem? We never know where we stand because companies were just telling us five minutes ago to eat all of the food!”

What’s on offer at her own gym is a way, according to her, of connecting women to the “divine feminine” through dance.

“With the twerking classes at the studio I wanted to celebrate my African-ness while still paying homage to the ways in which it has changed and how it’s now become linked with hip hop culture,” she says.

Also available at the Kelechnekoff studio are very popular classes in pole-dancing and also yoga, which she is particularly keen to make accessible to all, especially those on lower incomes.

She hopes in 2019 to include a few more aerial disciplines, such as aerial hoops and also Wing Chun defence classes. Primarily though, whether it’s a twerk hen party or a pole-dancing class, her dream is that the studio continues to be a fun place that celebrates all women.

On a personal level as we approach the new year, she’s living by her own mantra: “Don’t stop striving for that thing that makes your heart warm. You deserve it. You can achieve it.”

I was born in Spain as my mother went over there to work and then had me. I was born in 87 and she took me back home in 88 or 89 roughly. (She is a full British citizen born and raised in UK). As I have no contact with my father and I don't even remember being in Spain or nor can I even speak the language well, I feel fully British and also am regarded as a British citizen. My mum also registered me at a british consulate in april 88, just 6 months after I was born. So I put on the form that I became a resident in 1988. I then calculate the prices again and the insurance quotes shoot up with 955 being the cheapest and the rest going up to 1000. I then think back to all the years I have been paying the insurance and building up my no claims and being the perfect driver with no claims despite having to pay the shocking premiums that young people have to pay and this makes me absolutely livid that my insurance goes up by 340 to 400 based on the fact that I was born in Spain and spent 1 year of my life there and the rest of the 23 years as British Citizen raised here.
