I wanna see the warriors concept album brought to life in a visual medium. And I know everyone's assuming straight to broadway bc of lin, the cast, it being a musical, etc. But broadway is so limiting for a story like this
This needs to be done as a film. A movie musical and honestly I think maybe an animated one. Stylistically done in a graffiti inspired and street art inspired art style. With style changes that line up with the different types of music
The warriors is a cult classic urban story. Street tagging and street art are inherent in that and the colors and vibrancy it affords I think is SO PALPABLE in the songs. This concept album is so visual in its musicality it's insane.
I think a live action would be great too! We love a good made in ny film, especially when it uses locations properly and showcases the true bones of the city. But I think continuing the revolution of western animation would serve this story so well and spotlight under served artists and art styles
Plus if it's a movie we can get most if not all of the OG cast bc you KNOW they're not having some of these stars perform 8 shows a week and we NEED this sound and THIS version to be seen

i just learned that the hazbin cast wasn’t replaced for legal reasons and that it was all a decision
i will admit i am slightly disappointed, but then again, it was a pilot episode and people were bound to get recast—i just didn’t expect it to be the whole cast, and while i am a bit sad about that, i’m honestly hopeful. the new cast so far seems great and i’m sure they’ll do an amazing job.
a lot of people are still saying that it was a popularity contest, and you COULD make that argument about any cast replacement besides angel dust’s replacement. blake roman is not a well-known name at all, and the reason why people know his name now is because of hazbin. google lists him as a musician, but as far as i know (i could be wrong! please correct me if so!) all of his stuff that is available to stream are past theater roles with like ten other people per song, and some of his og songs on soundcloud. that is not a well-known name, simply and plainly, so michael kovach clearly wasn’t replaced so that they could have a bigger name play angel dust. i assume it was to have someone with musical experience play angel dust. i love michael kovach and his work so so so much but at this point i can’t deny how good of an angel dust blake roman is, and i’m excited to hear how he’ll do on the full show even if i’ll miss michael. plus, blake roman sounds awfully similar to pilot angel dust, only with a slight difference. it sounds more natural in my opinion, and i really like it.
(i have seen a lot of people say that michael was replaced because of his association with ashley, but i could not find concrete evidence of this so i’m not going to believe that just yet.)
with husk’s replacement, i assume that keith david being such a big name was actually a factor in that, and his voice for husk is pretty different from mick’s—but hey, it’s keith david. i love keith david, and i’m going to give him a chance. i am sad that it sounds so different and i am sad that mick was replaced but i’m going to give keith a chance.
so far i’m most upset with ed bosco being replaced, but in the same way that michael has stated that he doesn’t think he could go on with the show without ed, i don’t think ed would either. i’m not saying he was offered the role and he turned it down, in fact i genuinely do not think that that is the case, but with angel dust being replaced i don’t see it very possible that alastor wouldn’t be as well so i’m going to stop being sad about it. once again, i’m going to give amir talai a chance, and so far he’s doing a good job—even if i don’t personally like it as much as bosco’s alastor.
i’m confused as to why vivziepop stated that she didn’t want any of the cast replaced and then replaced all of them—she implied that she was going to at least try to keep them so i’m disappointed in the false promises. but, the show must go on, and while i am disappointed, i am not upset and i have not lost hope. i will forever miss the original cast but i cannot wait to see how the new cast does.
i also want to talk about the trailer formatting for hazbin. i see a lot of people upset that it was formatted like “omg big name you should watch!!” but trailers are advertisements, and the point of advertisements is to get people to watch, and showing big names in a trailer is a way to get people to watch…? idk, a lot of people seem surprised and disappointed that a trailer did this when that’s kind of the point?
all in all, i don’t think that the cast got replaced solely because the new actors are more famous—i think the biggest factor is that the new cast are all very talented in the music world, and that’s why they’re famous. while i am upset that they replaced everyone, and i’m sure the fame is a factor, i can understand how exciting it would be for a tv series creator (who is definitely a theater kid) to have their entire cast for a musical cartoon be broadway actors. if you’re disappointed, that’s okay. if you’re upset, that’s okay. but i urge you to give the new actors a chance and try to remain positive—don’t we already have enough negativity in our world? especially surrounding hazbin hotel?

-My Personal Mean Girls Movie Musical Song Ranking-
*The ranking will be based on the song in comparison to the Broadway show (how well it changes and/or honors the source material), how good it stands on its own, and my own thoughts. I have not/am not planning on watching the movie so this ranking is purely based off of the soundtrack available. I feel overall neutral when it comes to the OG musical and movie. I will not be counting Not My Fault; it's a bop but not part of the musical.
12. Stupid With Love: Same energy (or lack thereof) as What Ifs. It is very clearly modified to sound like a modern pop song. Just like What Ifs, Kady’s singer is not in a character voice. There are repetitive back vocals added, it reminds me a lot of Toe Jammer from My Singing Monsters. Stupid With Love (movie ver.) is so low energy that it doesn’t really match the situation our main character is in (falling head over heels for a boy in her math class). Much more boring/annoying than What Ifs and overall not a good song, in a pop OR musical setting.
11. Meet the Plastics: A lot less dramatic and a lot more serious/”adult”. The whole song sounds like the start of World Burn (Broadway). Grechen and Karen don't even sing or introduce themselves; it's only Regina. This song takes itself SO DAMN seriously. They do know that the reason Mean Girl’s is a cult classic is its humor and over the top nature, right?
10. Someone Gets Hurt: The song has a Billie Ellish quality to it; it is very soft-spoken for the most part and includes a lot of whisper singing. Someone Gets Hurt sounds very underwhelming, especially when you compare it to the original Broadway song. The song is supposed to be seductive but also powerful and dramatic. I think they only focused on the seductive part. The instrumentals are all toned down so much that it doesn’t fit the scene it is sung in (Regina kissing Katy’s crush, a big betrayal of their “friendship”). Ignoring the context, I don't think it works as a non musical song either.
9. Apex Predator: This cover is a total enigma to me. It is so weird sounding; the singing, instrumentals, tone, background vocals, pacing. Apex Predator is SO all over the place. Maybe it makes sense in the context of the movie? I honestly have no idea what was going on with this song but it didn’t sound…good. No disrespect to Auli’i or Jaquel; they did the best with the direction they were given. Really disappointing considering Apex Predator was a pretty strong song in the Broadway musical.
8. Revenge Party: This song feels a bit disconnected from itself. The instrumentals don't match the singer’s energy, especially Janis’ strong singing voice. This is a song about getting revenge so why does it sound so mellow? Auli'i vocals are really nice in this song but everything else falls pretty flat. Janis saying “Yes, bitch!” did make me chuckle though; caught me a bit off guard.
7. What’s Wrong With Me?: It is fine for what it is; it gets the job done. Not really a lot to say.
6. What Ifs: A new song written for the movie. The song sounds kinda somber and low energy; very different from the upbeat and hopeful song it is replacing, Roar. Angourie Rice has a nice voice; it’s just very soft and fits much better to a genre like pop. Speaking of pop, that is the weirdest part about What Ifs, it doesn’t sound like a musical theater song at all. What Ifs is a totally fine pop song but in my opinion, it fails in the context of a musical. The song tells us pretty much nothing about Katy or her circumstances. It's just a fine pop song.
5. A Cautionary Tale: The first song (and impression) of the Mean Girls musical movie. A lot more edgy sounding; it sounds like the musical was trying to really stray away from the classic Broadway style as much as they could. It has a lot less singing variety (less note variety, belts, etc.) Some of the stuff that they change, I really don't like (like the background oohs and cut of Janis and Damian’s witty banter). It feels more foreboding and boring than fun and exciting.
Less energy, less of a campy atmosphere :(
4. I’d Rather Be Me: Auli'i vocals are great in this but the instrumentals are underwhelming. I don't know why this movie is straying away from loud and powerful musical choices. Mean Girls is all about drama; why isnt that energy showing up in the music? I’m confused and tired.
3. World Burn: Another song that is super dramatic in context but not in execution. Renee’s riffs and belts are awesome (as always). It's not bad but not very good either.
2. Sexy: Thank you Avantika for giving us some much needed joy to the soundtrack💗! She totally embodies Karen in this song. Sexy has a funky instrumental. Sexy in the movie is very fun!
I See Stars: It’s pretty good. The instrumentals match the energy of the song, the singing is great, the background vocals add a lot, it's just an overall good cover.
Songs cut from songs from Broadway: It Roars, Where Do You Belong?, Fearless, Stop, Whose House Is This?, More Is Better, Do This Thing
Overall: I saw this movie making a bit of negative buzz and as a musical theatre nerd, I wanted to know what everyone was talking about. Based off what I've seen/listened to, Mean Girls is a musical that doesn't want to be a musical. This negatively affects the music. Hopefully studios see the reception and improve this movie's flaws in future projects.

Bestie, as someone who has never seen newsies and only knows about it through your posts * Waves hand* rant? ramble? elaborate? summarize? whatever you want to call it! Imagine i had never seen Cats and you were about to change my life by telling me about it. Just absolutely go ham telling me literally everything about it. Literally anything. Which version should i watch first? Headcanons? Favorite scenes? Favorite characters? Favorite songs? Whatever! All of the above or another sixth thing i haven't thought of. I am curious about Newsies and i want to know more! Please Share! :D
YES YES YES THANK YOU BESTIE I'M SO EXCITED TO TALK ABOUT NEWSIES
okay so Newsies first started as a movie done by Disney, directed by Kenny Ortega (yes, THAT Kenny Ortega) and with music by Alan Menken, and it was released in 1992, starring Christian Bale as Jack Kelly!
the musical is based off of the 1899 New York Newsies strike, and focuses on the Manhattan borough, led by Jack Kelly, who strike against Joseph Pulitzer. David Jacobs and his younger brother, Les, join the strike, and the newsies work to bring in other boroughs and draw support from other kids working in the city.
now, the frustrating thing is that the stage musical deviates from the movie in a few points:
in the 1992 movie, there's a reporter named Denton, who offers to write about the strike. Also in the 1992 movie is David's sister, Sarah, who is Jack's love interest. the musical basically combines Denton and Sarah into Katherine, who is a writer for the Sun (like Denton) and who is Jack's main love interest.
the 1992 movie makes it VERY easy to figure out which newsie is which, and focuses on the newsies as a whole, and their relationships with each other. the musical is MUCH more centered around just Jack, as well as just his relationship with Katherine. In the 1992 movie, Jack and Sarah's relationship is more background.
i'd personally go with watching the 1992 movie first. it's the entire reason i fell in love with the show, and it's the version i honestly prefer. Christian Bale's Jack is SO soft and wonderful, and i love his interactions with the rest of the newsies. I'm not saying the Broadway version is bad, but it's different, so i'd say do the OG version first!
i honestly think the reason it was easy for me to come into the Cats fandom and start identifying the different cats was because of Newsies lmao. There are so many different background boys, but like i said, the 1992 movie makes it EXTREMELY easy to identify all of them. it's the stage version that makes it ridiculously hard to figure out who is who, which is why i suggest doing the original movie first, and learning the characters from that!
note: the Broadway version (specifically the U.S. tour) added a song for Crutchie called "Letter from the Refuge", which isn't included in the original cast recording, but the pro-shoot they did a few years ago has it in there!
ok so some of my favorite scenes from both the movie and stage show!!!!! (probably most of these will be from the movie lmao)
1992: Kloppman (the owner of the lodging house that the newsies stay in) wakes Jack up, and they have a very adorable father/son-type back and forth with each other
1992: where Racetrack (one of my favorite newsies) is asking for a towel, and Skittery (my other favorite newsie) says "for a buck i might" and the scene is just so PURE and brotherly like???? they're siblings?????
1992: "dear me, i fear the sewer may have backed up during the night" "or is it... the Delancey brothers!" they're little SHITS and i love them
1992: "baby born with three heads" "must be from brooklyn"
1992: gotta highlight @cutesiewooren's boy Blink here, his line "a saturday night with the mayer's daughter" gets me EVERY SINGLE TIME in "king of new york"
broadway: also speaking of "king of new york" it's impossible to talk about it without talking about the broadway line of "and when your famous... the woild... is yer erster!" "ya what?" "ya know, the fancy claim with the pearl inside?"
1992: "your honor, i object" "on what grounds" "on the grounds of Brooklyn" spot conlon my FUCKING beloved
broadway: any of the background dialogue during the "king of new york" tap scene, it's perfect
my favorite songs would probably have to be:
"Carrying the Banner"
"Seize the Day"
"Watch What Happens"
"High Times, Hard Times" (1992 movie)
"Something to Believe In"
"Once and For All"
now for favorite characters!! once again, because the 1992 movie does SUCH a better job at giving each newsie a unique personality and highlights them, it's mainly based off of those versions!
Mush... my love... my boy... my darling... my everything...
Racetrack... Racer... love...
(gotta include both max and ben's racers, they're iconic)
David!!! ofc!!!! my beloved!!!! he's just like me fr!!
spot conlon!!!!!
skittery!!!! i've done a whole appreciation post for him but he!!!!
literally i could name every single newsie bc i love all of them. jack is a given, but i specifically love 1992 Jack. I've been meaning to make a whole analysis post on it, but Christian Bale just really plays such a heartwarming and soft Jack. His interactions with the rest of the newsies, with Sarah, with the adults, you can just feel how much he cares about everyone around him.
a little fun fact about the 1992 movie:
while in production, the newsie boys basically shot a mini-horror movie called "Blood Drips Heavily on Newsies Square" that is the FUNNIEST fucking thing i've ever watched in my life
like it features all of the cast + a lot of the crew, and you can absolutely tell this was made by a bunch of teenage boys who had way too much time on their hands in between filming
you can probably find the whole thing on youtube, and i 100% recommend watching it
and a few cast crossover facts bc i can't resist:
Jess LeProtto (2016 revival Mungojerrie) was Jojo in the original Broadway cast!
Mukeni Nel (who was part of the 2019 international tour as Bill Bailey + Mistoffelees cover, as well as the 2020 Asia tour as Carbucketty) is currently playing Jojo in the UK Tour of Newsies!
Giuseppe Bausilio (2016 revival Carbucketty) was also in the original Broadway cast, and I believe later performed as Racetrack!
Mike Faist (who was a Delancey brother/ensemble member in the original Broadway cast) was the original Connor Murphy in Dear Evan Hansen
quite a few of the OBC newsie actors (Including Jess and Mike) were part of the 2021 West Side Story film!
Jeremy Jordan (OBC Jack Kelly) has done SO much but my favorite fact is that he voices Varian in the Tangled animated series!
also i saw Kara Lindsay (OBC Katherine) as Glinda in Wicked back in 2015 or 2016, and she was absolutely INCREDIBLE
and finally, a few hcs:
Jack is unofficially adopted by the Jacobs family as soon as they meet him, they see this scruffy jaded boy and immediately go "he's ours"
Katherine's newsie name is "Scribble", and ONLY Jack is allowed to call her "Ace"
Sarah's is "Mama Bear" because she can and will go absolutely feral if she sees any of her boys getting hurt
Spot can't swim (idk why, i just think it's funny if he lives near the docks and can't swim to save his life)
no one's actually sure if Specs needs glasses, or if they're fake. at this point, they're too afraid to ask, and Specs just thinks it's absolutely hilarious that they're trying to figure it out.
Patrick's mother (who's shown at the beginning of the movie during "Carrying the Banner") never finds her son, but she, like Mrs. Jacobs and Medda, becomes a type of surrogate mother for a lot of the newsies.
that's all i can think about right now lmao, but i love getting to rant and ramble about one of my absolute favorite musicals of ALL time!!! and you know i'm always down to answer asks about newsies any time, bestie!!

Just found out they made a movie version of Matilda the Musical. As someone who was so obsessed at age 12 that I can still remember most of the lyrics to the songs at age 19, I've decided to chronicle my thoughts as I watch. (NOTE: anytime I mention "the OG" I am referring to the broadway musical, not the book)
I thought the "I can be a solider and shoot you in the face" line was very fun and original. Can't believe they sanitized it and we're not even 3 minutes in.
I am enjoying the "Miracle" segment so far. It's giving music video vibes. (but also, Disney just straight up added the Hamilton stage performance to their streaming service, and I'm already wishing they did that. The show was really fun!)
I thought part of Mrs. Wormwood's denial could've been more convincing if she wasn't obviously pregnant (admittedly they didn't do that in the original either--it's too bad; she should've been in really good shape to still almost make her dancing competition)
They cut Ruuuuuuudolpho the dancer how could they
Library bus is fun but real actual libraries are also great. Mrs. Phelps seems nice so far.
Mr. Wormwood being worried about debt actually makes more sense for him to be doing all his shady stuff.
Miss. Honey seems like she's doing her best.
I take it back the dad's even more of an ass in this--I don't remember him setting her up and then GLOATING ABOUT IT
I liked "Naughty" except for the roof bit; Matila's supposed to be smart, not climbing all over the exterior of her house like an idiot. (note: Movie Matilda is also a bit of a dumbass)
Since Mr. Wormwood is going on about the escapologist, does that mean we're getting less of Mrs. Phelps?--never mind
So is the Trunchbull not the acrobat's sister in this one?
They changed some of the story--she doesn't try to do the *circus announcer voice* "it is the greatest feat EVER known to man"
Kiddo knows that turnabout is fair play
Isaac the lizard might be the best addition to the story (we will see)
"School Song" is simultaneously most similar and most different from the musical and I didn't like it at first (I thought the school gate with the letter blocks was the coolest thing) the way they managed to incorporate a lot of stuff from the original
Nigel panicking about advanced math (relative to himself) is very relatable
They're all so tinyyyyyyyy when you're 12 you don't notice as much
Thinking she meant finish instead of erase, omg kiddo
That booklist, holy crap. I was a reading addict in HS and now the most I read is sections of my textbooks (I love STEM but it's so much workkkkk)
They cut all of "Pathetic" except the last line (don't be pathetic, netflix)
OMG it's the Hammer song (can't remember the official name right now D: oh no) The actress doesn't make the song hit the same way as the OG actress. The recording part is funny though
Honestly the bits of Miss. Honey's voice from the hammer song makes me even more disappointed they didn't include "Pathetic" she sounds good
The dad had a fun song making fun of authors and also the audience; it doesn't lend itself well to movie adaptation but it was funny as hell.
Pretty sure the book that was ripped up in all the previous adaptations was Moby Dick
The dad is even crazier business-wise in this and in the OG he cheated the Russian mafia
"Telekinipsis" you precious child
Wait omfg they brought back Hortensia
I liked "Chokey"
Narcolepsy was kept yay
Poor Amanda
OOOOOOOO evil stepsister (wait was that the original plot anyway?)
It was indeed not the OG plot I now remember "Forgotten by everyone except... the acrobat's sister" was the line
Mrs. Phelps I love you omg
The kid constantly trying telekinesis is so cute
The hug was interrupted how could she
Bruce I hope you get your song
"a pact with Satan and stolen my cake" she's so extra
Yay he got his song!
Where did she even get a teaching certification
"When I Grow Up" had no lyrics changed and yet the vibes were entirely different. I liked the adult ensemble coming in and all the swings and stuff in the OG. Again, Miss. Honey has a great voice and I'm disappointed they cut "Pathetic"
The story sequence was good, but it would've been better if they kept the fire extinguisher foam bit.
Mrs. Phelps ready to call CPS on Matilda's nonexistent aunt
The dad was a comedy figure in the OG why is he like this
The story is back yay and I like that she's putting herself in the daughter's place (we know it's Miss. Honey but she doesn't)
"Don't Cry" was excellent
It's fun that everyone thinks Matilda is a hero
"Smell of Rebellion" is more solid than "Throw the Hammer"
Gym is apparently the hell class
Zeke was a dwarf I think why is he a parrot now???
OMG the telekinesis boy was Eric Ink
I liked this version of "Quiet" but thinking about it now, 90% sure it's called dissociation, kiddo
"My House" was really nice but I feel like the actress was a bit breathy at first; she did better when the song let her push more. (again, she'd be really good with the song "Pathetic" (open the door))
Chokey is supposed to be a tiny closet, not an outhouse
Oh good, they kept the mafia that was a good subplot
*rebels* [insert 50 chokeys here]
THEY CUT REVOLTING CHILDREN THE RATING IS GOING DOWN
WAIT NO NEVERMIND
I like that Hortensia got to be the deuteragonist in the song initially written for her. However, the song wasn't quite as good as the OG version.
The song Miss. Honey sings after the parents drive away I'm 90% sure is movie-musical-only
Isaac deserves the best life I'm glad that Lavender got her bestie back
THE CREDITS VERSION IS THE OFFICIAL BROADWAY CAST RECORDING OF WHEN I GROW UP I KNOW THIS SONG (sidenote, I am dancing in my dorm room at 12:25 am and having the time of my life)
Final rating 6.5 to 7 out of 10. Solid, would recommend, but the stage musical is still better. Would listen to my CD of the show rather than watch again.
((I would like to specify that my family IS NOT RICH. There's this option on Broadway that you put your name in a raffle for a show that day (I think? again, I was 12) and if you win the tickets (which are like the last few seats in the theater) are much cheaper. If you are in NYC and you have this option, 10/10 would recommend))

i see your bingo but unfortunately i have forgotten what a character is. can you pick one at random?
Like? Conceptually? Djdjdhdjfhdu
Gretchen Fucking Weiners because I’m jazzed rn-
Gretchen’s so fucking insecure and desperate for love it hurts. Og movie her is the best at ‘being able to be read as a normal person’ but in the other adaptations they push hard that she’s always like 2 minutes from having a panic attack and/or becoming the Joker. I honestly don’t know how much of that is ‘Gretchen probably has some kind of anxiety disorder’ and how much of that is ‘Regina is mean to her and constantly fuels her self loathing to maintain control over her.’ I’m not sure how much those two things can be separated.
Anyway can we talk about how people who compare Mean Girls and Heathers always list her as the Duke counterpart and it’s mostly because she’s a brunette. Like, Duke’s whole thing is powerlust, she was Starscreaming the shit out of Chandler complete with ‘pretending for about 10 seconds to be sad about her death before immediately taking over’ Gretchen would jump off a bridge before taking charge of anything. Duke would be pissed if fucking Veronica tried to be the next Chandler after her death because she gave up everything to be Chandler. Gretchen is pretty happy to have someone in charge of her again because she needs the validation that comes with being someone’s number 2… Also ‘I’m hugging my knees and the captain is pointing- well who made her captain? Still the weakest must go…’ Is more similar to the Brutus meltdown than anything Duke says change my min-
Also… Did they erase her Jewishness from the movie musical? The OG musical mentions it a few times and so does the OG movie. Ashley Park played her on Broadway and A. Was pretty damn good and B. They didn’t stop calling her Jewish. She was just mixed in that version so it’s not because Latina that her heritage is erased. I’d get if they want to avoid the antisemitism in her other portrayals but I think it would have been a better choice to make a larger variety of characters Jewish than to erase that aspect of her you know?
On a THIRD hand holy shit she has so much dialogue in the OG musical that makes me insane. “Sometimes I feel like an IPhone without a case. I know I’m useful and have good functions but at any moment I could just shatter.” “Hug me while my shoulder’s tense, and we’ll pretend we’re fine.” “It’s like all I do is plan for a joy I don’t get to feel.” Just- am I supposed to be normal about those lines? She’s so- just- I want to save her… Possibly get her some Fluoxetine… I want her to explore herself and what she wants and to start feeling like a person damn it! She’s so little… In my hearts once she gets out of High School things start going a bit better for her.

GIRL i think it’s very well-advertised that my favorite creature is the werewolf 🌙🐺 i’m known for inserting a werewolf au in every fandom i’m a part of (thankfully 911 has a BUNCH i can be super normal about, including yours :3c)
(not to mention the fursuit and all that jazz lol)
but you also know i have a second place soft spot for dragons ;3 🐉
heather - what’s your favourite musical?
GOOD GOD that’s a hard one because i love so many. phantom of the opera, les mis for classics, we all go through a rent phase as teenagers (i literally saw it once a week for like an entire summer when they basically gave the last row tix away). my ultimate fave was in the heights, i was OBsessed. once on this island, hairspray, once, they’re all good. and honestly, i have a soft spot for disney stage adaptations—the lion king was the first broadway show i saw and it sparked my love of set and costume design. i’m still mad hunchback got cancelled, the songs RULE. and i’ll say it, frozen on broadway was fucking excellent 😤 did you SEE that reindeer costume???
iris - favourite 90s song?
as a millennial, literally all 90s songs are my favorite. BUT since my favorite band ever is HANSON, i gotta go with OG “MMMBop”.

That was your first ask??? O: Well don't mind me breaking down the door some more!!
May I please ask for a rant on something that makes you happy? 💖 First thing that comes to mind 🌟
(sets the broken-down door aside and gives you a cup of hot chocolate) come sit with me, friend ;_; ♥♥♥
So. A thing that really makes me happy (and what I will write about some day, I think, because it's related to Cats, of course) is how the entire characterization of Munkustrap probably came to be, or at least how I like to think it did. After all, neither the casting call nor his three words say anything about the Munkustance™, and that had to come from somewhere, right? So Gillian Lynne and Trevor Nunn and whoever else was part of the creative team behind the characters went 'okay. he's tall, he's strong, he's imposing. he needs to have the longest legs ever' and honestly, they were so right. So what to do with all that leg? I unfortunately haven't seen any og footage, so I can't say when the Munkustance was first introduced or if it was there from the start (which would crack me up because I would LOVE to hear Gillian "the man was wonderful when he made love to me but i hated him" Lynne describe to the OLC Munkustrap where to put his legs exactly and what's supposed to fit between them), but it's very entertaining to imagine that at some point a Strap actor just went 'yo I have so much leg. I'm so damn imposing i need to take up more space. let me spread those legs 20 meters wide and maybe a kitten or three can sit underneath them?' and the directors just went "sure" and other London Straps, Broadway Straps and later productions' Straps went '👀 this rocks' and from then on started Munkustancing so religiously that we now have an actual word for it. Isn't that just wonderful?! Also! A thing that I think is so damn unique for a musical from the 80s is that Munkustrap is the complete opposite of the ole strong leader stereotype, and the great thing about that is that it was completely intentional. Sure, some Straps are more kitten wranglers and honourary dad cats than others, but so far I haven't seen a Strap who's been played as the same old, same old strong, independent, unemotional, callous, unfriendly leader type. Maybe they just did that so the audience could emphasize more with the Jellicles as a whole, since Munkustrap acts as the narrator and has the most lines in the show, but other than that, I think that it's a huge thing that the leader is this friendly, kitten-loving, gentle more-or-less giant of a cat who just loves his family and would die for them without thinking. There is like,,, no cat other than Macavity in the entire show that Munkustrap doesn't like, and it's mutual with all of them. :') Imagine being a little cat so full of love... (additionally, first-time cats watchers never get to know his name but he still seems to be a favourite character of a lot of them, so that says a lot, I think :’)) Three more things, then I'm done sfksjfkjsdkf Let's get to in-universe Strap, then! As already mentioned, there is no cat that he doesn't like, so in well-done productions there are usually almost no other cats that he doesn't have some kind of chemistry with. Which - you guessed it - makes him so easily shippable with almost EVERYONE. Alonzostrap? Sure. Demestrap? Hell yeah!! Demebombastrap? Yes! Demelonzobombastrap?? (Guilty pleasure of mine.) Of course!! Munkussandra? Bombastrap? Skimblestrap? Munkoffelees? Munkudots? Munkujerrie/Mungostrap? Mungoffeleestrap? Tuggerstrap? (If you don't hc them as siblings, of course - another guilty pleasure of mine. Please don't hate me XD) All valid! This cat just needs some love and he's gonna get it from all sides if he's not careful. Furthermore, what makes me soft the most is imagining how other cats perceive him. He's just casually Munkustancing somewhere in the junkyard, chatting with Alonzo, a kitten or two hanging out between his legs, and the other cats look over and just go "Yeah :')" because-- just hdffhhhdhgj there he is. Just standing there, being his wonderful, whimsical self, and you could walk up to him and speak to him and he would listen. Give him a kitten to hold for a sec and he'd do everything for you (and the kitten, who certainly doesn't mind being held for a sec). Do you know the feeling when you look at your pet and suddenly have like an epiphany that this is your pet, an actual, small living being that lives with you but exists on its own? I couldn't describe that feeling any further, not even in German sjdfks But I think other cats would have that feeling, regularly, when they look at Munkustrap. Maybe I'm just projecting. All just my headcanons here, don't execute me! And the last thing, I just love his name. It's so fun, and shortening it to "Strap" instead of the more usual "Munk" never fails to bring me joy. Additionally, you can make so many puns by just hanging "-strap" behind a word.
Yeah. :') Rant over. This is my emotional support theatre nerd dad cat and he makes me very happy. There hasn't been a Strap in any production so far that I didn't like. I think if I adopt two cats one day, I'd name one after him. ♥
Thank you so much for asking! Such an interesting request as well, this was fun (and it made me happy... imagine that XDD). The one from before was indeed my very first ask and I'm so happy that it was you! ♥♥♥

OKAY I JUST FOUND THIS OUT AND IM KIND OF ON THE FLOOR BOWING DOWN TO EVERY ONE OF THEM, INCLUDING THE CREW.
Alright so, WHY THE CHAIRS?
During Six The Musical’s tour in Edmonton, Alberta (Canada), Samantha Pauly (K Howard) discovered she had dislocated ribs. DISLOCATED RIBS. She couldn’t dance and it caused major discomfort for her, and that corset already restricted movement so imagine the PAIN SHE WAS IN. SHE LITERALLY IN SOME CLIPS WAS HOLDING HER RIBS. She was fine in the beginning but DAMN WTF?!
Why couldn’t a Swing or an Alternate take her place for some performances?
There already is a swing for her but she was unavailable during the run. A swing was backstage but i think she did not know Howard’s part and choreography. I’m not sure.
How did she not know that she was in pain?
Oh sis she definitely knew, Adrianna Hicks (Broadway Aragon) asked if Samantha was okay and she responded she was fine, but Adrianna said “Nope, you aren’t even looking at me.” The cast and crew kept checking on Samantha if she was alright and at one point she asked Brittney Mack (Broadway Cleves) to check her back cause of the small bump she had earlier. Brittney responded “GIRL YOU GOT A HUMP LIKE THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME”, the discomfort from her back went up to her neck and gave Samantha a headache. They were thinking of cancelling the show for the night but....
Here’s a fun fact about Six:
THE STAGE MANAGERS HAVE A LIST OF DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF THE SHOW.
Everyone remembers the cast wide illness from the London Cast? Where Genesis Lynea (OG Cleves) reprised her role and Toby Marlow (co-creator of Six) played the role of Catherine Parr for two nights and every other swing was sick? Yeah. Legendary performance btw, the audio is on YouTube and the Megasix is somewhere there too.
With that incident, different versions of the show were made so they could still put on the show without cancelling a night.
In this instance they did a concert version of the show, they were still in character but everyone had a stool to sit and water bottles nearby. It was intimate and honestly, pretty fucking sick. LIKE DAMN, SAM STILL WENT ON STAGE AND KILLED HER PERFORMANCE WITH HER COSTUME ON (with the corset tied loosely of course)
The other members of the cast could do whatever they want but Sam could sit on the stool and sing her parts normally.
THE DEDICATION TO THEATRE IS AMAZING.
It is hard to imagine that Sam wanted to take a break from theatre (yeah she wanted to) BUT HERE SHE IS. LIVING HER LIFE.
She still goes to the chiropractor to check on her ribs and goes to the doctor regularly. She’s fine but folks come on. She’s amazing.
Samantha Pauly, cast and crew of Six The Musical:
The Queendom loves and supports you.
*THIS INFO WAS FOUND ON THE QUEENDOM PODCAST AND BROADWAY BROADS ON YOUTUBE*
If you want to see a clip of Samantha singing but still on stage HOLDING IT TOGETHER,

My thoughts on Scarlet Pimpernel Takarazuka 2017
So the stream of the 2017 Takarazuka Scarlet Pimpernel just finished and I just had to come on here and rant about how good it was
Spoilers for the Zuka production obviously
~ first of all, I am now in love with every single member of Zuka. They are so bloody talented and I want to hug them all ajaksmdmd
~second of all, I think this is now my favourite production ever, on the same level as the OG Broadway for sure
~I actually really enjoyed the changes to the plot, I assumed there'd be some changes but I didn't really know what they'd be, but good lord I loved them! They did something similar to the 1982 film where they added in elements of the sequel book Eldorado with the rescue of the French Crown Prince being one of the big plot points among other things
(on that note the prince's dynamic with Percy is the most adorable thing ever, they're just so wholesome)
~ARMAND GOT CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT GUYS
@whereswaldotho will know how fucking happy it makes me and I could go on for years about how much I love him.
Anyway, Armand got a love interest!!!!!!! Instead of the original Broadway plot line with Marie and Tussaud being a couple, Marie and Armand are together in this and holy shit I love them in a way I didn't even know I could. They are wholesome and lovely
and on the note of Marie I would die for that woman she's so babey and is just Best Aunt™ to the Prince when she's taking care of him
Anyway Armand/Marie rights babey wholesome rights jsndnfnfn [@whereswaldotho don't worry tho I still ship Broadway!Armand/Elton and I always will]
~Also Ffoulkes existed in the Zuka production!
One of the problems I have with the musical is that they just kind of ignore the fact that Andrew existed? Which always seemed weird to me because he's like, Percy's best friend in the book?
BUT he's here and so is Suzanne (who I am absolutely in love with from the book and now from Zuka) and they are also a beautiful couple and I just don't know how to explain how soft they make me
~yeah everyone gets a love interest woo!
~Robespierre 👏as 👏 an 👏 important 👏character! 👏 He plays a much bigger part than in most adaptations I know of and I'm honestly not mad about it I think it was a very good decision
And then there's the iconic trio
~Chauvelin is just... sneaky snake who I want to hug for some reason???? Like yes, he is the bad guy but also give him a break and a hug and maybe something alcoholic to drink he could really use it guys
~MARGUERITE!!!!!!!!!!! I WANT HER TO PUNCH ME IN THE FACE HOLY CRAP NOT TO BE A SIMP BUT LIKE!!!!!! she is just *chefs kiss*
[also the part where Robespierre and Chauvelin try to use Armand to force her to sing in support of their leadership and she just turns around and sings Percy's song of courage instead, like ma'am who gave you the right to steal my heart like this]
~And of course, Percy! My favourite annoying shit lmao. Like they took Douglas Sills' Percy in Pimpernel 2.0 and said "let's turn it up to 1000 amirite!!!!!!" he just will not give poor Chauvelin a break and I love it. But like, also the emotion! I wanted to cry so many times
~And then there's the costumes which I just qnfjfjenrjgmfmfjrjtjtjtjtjtjtjtt how do I explain everyone looks so good and I am in love
~okay I'm gonna wrap this up with a last point on the music!!!!!
~so obviously there were the main songs that you get in all of the productions and they were all amazing like the pure talent going on was incredible
~but then there were a couple of completely new songs like the Song Of Courage I mentioned which was reprised a few times by multiple characters and I loved it, and then there was another one that I don't remember the name of but it was a Percy/Chauvelin duet which was very good [and I think Robespierre had a song as well or maybe I'm getting confused but as far as I remember it was great]
~and to finish the show there were "dance versions" of Storybook, The Riddle, Falcon In The Dive and She Was There and my god they were amazing
Anyway I am so grateful to @yozoragumi for hosting the stream and I'm so glad I got the opportunity to watch this production!

Ya girl is watching the latest HSM series ep and Imma live blog it hshshs and will add my reactions under the cut so it doesn't end up a long post. Anyways, let's goo:
AHHHH THE MORNING SHOW WITH GINA AND EJ WE LOVE TO SEE IT
They really said we're gonna let life imitate art with Nini and Olivia huh
Ricky was SUPPORTIVE??? Damnn I really thought we gonna get a classic Ricky tantrum....
But also wow sir that sounds salty and should definitely talk to someone abt how you're feeling...A therapist maybe 👀
I know we needed to contextualise how Ricky felt abt the song but I really wanted to see Nini's interview in full!!
Sebby you're so cute I do wanna see yall do DEH
Shjshshs not the rights not being available for another 5 years 😭😭
I dunno how they're in great shape and closer to the Menkies Gold after not having a single proper rehearsal, but go off Miss Jenn
Omg honestly Kourt's costumes are always amazing and on point Imma excited to see it
Kourt is such a simp we love to see it
Carlos is so pissy this episode we love to see it shshhs
Also love the way Seb calms him down and keeps him nice it's such a funny dynamic
"We had 20 people make our Belle dress over 50 hours" Okay North High shut the fuck up
I'm calling it now the reason North High knows so much is cos Howie is the leak and Kourt has been unwittingly telling him. The way her phone keeps going off as they discuss how North High knows everything is really good foreshadowing if my prediction is right
Also like her phone went off just as Carlos said "How did they know that?" THAT'S PEAK FORESHADOWING
If Howie ain't in North High, I dunno what Tim is doing
GSJAGSHAH KOURTNEY MAKING ABS FOR EJ I CANNOT
"I have abs" We know sweetie
"I PADDED THE THUSH FOR YOU" "AWW THANKS KOURT I NEEDED THAT" THIS INTERACTION IS EVERYTHING THAT WAS SO FUNNY!! I love that it is now canon that EJ has abs but no butt love that for him
Okay but like damn these costumes are great!! North High can fuck right off with its high end ones I just wanna see lowkey homemade costumes by students; I'd watch a Broadway show if I wanted to see professional costumes okay
Damn Carlos has killer eyesight clocking in that mask in the trunk
GINA BBY DON'T SAY THAT AND HAHSGSH NINI NUDGING HER WAS SO FUNNY
Nini's little look over at Gina was like "Omg you guys my girlfriend is so cute and dumb" GINI STANS HOW WE FEELING?
Miss Jenn don't be that naive, your boyfriend probably put them up to it
That Insta page is prophetic with their timing tbh; all the info is a leak obviously looking at your Howie but like the timing of it all. Those kiddos don't know that they are discussing the stolen mask at this exact moment (Kourt has put down her phone after Carlos snapped at her so Howie doesn't know they are talking abt it rn)
"We don't dance with the enemy" *cuts to her dancing with Zackey later*
SEBBY WEARING THE TEACUP COSTUME OMG HE'S GOING MAKE SUCH A CUTE CHIP (yes I am still mad Seb/Joe was robbed but Imma fangirl over the costume anyway)
Wtf why does North High look so expensive - they are literally in the same district as East High right??? How did they get this much funding
North High is a very artsy and rich for a public school; they should have had Nini go here instead of YAC tbh (like this campus feels like what YAC should have been) NOW THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN AN INTERESTING STORYLINE
Seblos' dynamic IS ON POINT THIS EP I really love my bois so much and their back and forth is hilarious
Shhshs DIANE who loves volleyball and North High okay I totally believe it
WHY ARE RED AND ASHLYN SO KINKY EVERY DAMN EPISODE TIM THESE ARE UNDERAGED CHARACTERS STOP IT
Shshsh we love Gina knowing herself and practicing self control by volunteering to be the lookout
Omg yall listen to Carlos and stfu they are so lucky no one saw or heard them yelling Wildcats
Oh no no no no no Miss Jenn you gonna get sucked in; this is gonna be so messy
Omg I saw someone post about this scene before I watched the ep YALL ARE RIGHT THAT BOI HITTING ON GINA IS SO FINE Babes go for that one, not EJ
NOT THEM FAKE DATING UGH E W TIM STOP MAKING ROMANTIC PORTWELL A T H I N G I honestly do not understand how some of yall can ship it romantically knowing Sofia is a whole underaged babey and Matty is a whole ass grown man - like I get the appeal of the Wonderstudies getting together and they do have chemistry but the irl age gap is creepy and outweighs the appeal of shipping them romantically
As I always say; Portwell/Wonderstudies should be a BROTP not an OTP
Ugh Brotp Portwell would have clocked Lily right away; romantic Portwell making googly eyes at each other isn't helping anyone
Living for Nini getting the recognition she deserves - I really like her solo arc this season she's so much more interesting without Ricky tbh
Aww Kourt you simp I love her and I'm so happy she's happy I wanna be wrong about Howie being a North High kid
Where is the mask??
OHMYGOD THESE KIDS COMING IN LIKE A HORROR MOVIE
Lily really wishes she was Jesse St. James huh; you could never Lily so stop
Andrew Barth Feldman and his cute little French accent I love him so much
Hnng Miss Jenn gonna get manipulated by this hoe. Omg wowow Zackey really is a hoe, making out with another girl before the show THE AUDACITY OF HIM SAYING MISS JENN WASN'T GOOD ENOUGH I WILL THROW HANDS WITH THIS MOFO
Wait the kids didn't steal it BUT WHAT IF ZACKEY DID
Ssjsgfajhdfg I CANNOT WITH ANDREW'S ACCENT but I can't tell if its really bad or really good but I'm also confused why didn't they just cast a French person as Antonie shshhs Antoine is adorableee and a little shit the best type of character
Lily is so annoying b y e sis bye and Olivia Keegan is talented I just wish they didn't make her character such a cartoony villain type
"How about if we bop to the top" SEBBY I LOVE YOU AND NEVER STOP BEING SO CUTE I SWEAR and Awww Carlos called him Honey I am s o f t
Hnng why do these fools are really gonna give into North High calling them chickens
OHHH NO SHE DIDN'T JUST SAY THAT ABOUT ASHLYN FUCK A DANCE OFF I AM ABOUT TO THROW HANDS WITH A 16 YEAR OLD
"She told us not to dance with the enemy. She's better than this" No Sebby, she's not *cuts to her dancing with Zackey* AND OMG THE WAY I SAW THIS EDIT COMING BEFORE IT CAME
Ooooh I like this song wayyy more whatever the mess The Mob Song became (when I first heard it drop on Spotify yesterday) Around You is such a great song musically and lyrically very relevant to these two and gosh I love their voices together
They have so much chemistry damn, go home Mike (well he technically has oop) and Mr. Mazzara
YES YOU DO MISS JENN YOU ALWAYS HAD IT
Oh god this is the scene from the trailer; she's gonna make a move on Ricky isn't she?? Leave him alone Lily he doesn't need a 3rd girl to be confused about he needs a therapist
Lily shut the fuck up with quasi; STOP TRYING TO MAKE QUASI HAPPEN
"I love Nini's song" Sure, Jan.
...Okay yes you should have called him out but don't bait him LIKE THAT oop there's the scene from the trailer
Ohmygod is Andrew Barth Feldman gonna hit on Ashlyn
Okay this is so cute but also I am VERY annoyed with the way this show handles its characters like they aren't relevant or important unless they get into a relationship or a love triangle?? That's such a shitty way to give out screentime and arcs to characters. Is it not enough to develop the characters on their own and strengthen their friendship???
HUH TIM why you so obsessed with compulsory heterosexuality??(well also homosexuality for Seblos but they are the only ones I'm not annoyed with their relationship cos its a hella big step for Disney to have a gay couple and their relationship isn't in our faces or overshadows the plot and its just spinkles of cuteness every time they interact - they are honestly who Rini wishes they were; besties in love. They are a couple that Tim should be taking notes from; leave the relationship drama in the background, focus on the theatre and friendship aspect of everything)
My mini rant aside; this is a very adorable interaction between Ashlyn and Antoine.
"TOM HOLLAND ON STILTS" GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE WITH THAT COMPARISON I AM SCREAMING ANTOINE THAT'S SO FUNNY
This is so funny he keeps picking out the hottest guys of the group; as if he himself isn't the French version of Big Red they look super alike ngl shshsh
WHY YOU RUIN IT WITH THAT ANTOINE I WAS ROOTING FOR YOU
Drama between Antoine and Red is already spicing up shshsh I cannot
Why are you so dramatic with the shuffle Lily gtfo of here...also this doesn't make sense?? She wasn't even on a BATB playlist; what if a non BATB song came on ahahah
Good to know they aren't big fans of The Mob Song like I am Awww EJ you cutie, okay I will appreciate the OG Mob Song just for you
OH WAIT HE PROLLY LIKES IT COS ITS A GASTON LED SONG TIM GIMME THE EJ SOLO I DESERVE IN THIS NUMBER
I'm being robbed of Gaston for the last 7 eps I at least deserve an EJ solo for compensation
The way the set looks straight out of Broadway but also like omg the blue lighting and fancy stage gave me intense flashbacks to that Glee episode where Vocal Adrenaline sang Bohemian Rhapsody
RICKY STOP BEING SALTY AND ACTUALLY COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR GIRLFRIEND LIKE A NORMAL PERSON
OMG THE SUBTITLES SAID ITS HOWIE SINGING AS THE BEAST I FUCKING CALLED IT
Howie you hoe you gonna break my girl Kourtney's heart
Yeah...still not a fan of Antoine's Dance Remix
Yall know Gina would kill the dance number if she wasn't wearing that fit
Okay but it's Gaston led song WHY DOES EVERYONE BUT EJ HAVE A SOLO IN THIS SONG??
First the Beasts led it (Howie sounded better than Ricky ngl), then the Lumieres (their voices worked hella well together; I always forget what a talented singer Frankie is THEY NEED TO GIVE HIM A SOLO SONG) and now the Belles are going at it (Ashlyn's voice is superior)
BIG RED BEING JEALOUS AND SALTY IS SO FUNNY ITS LIKE A PUPPY BEING ANGRY I CRI
...Did anyone really win, Lily??? STFU
CARLOS IS RIGHT AND HE SHOULD SAY IT
Oooh I did see someone talk about this when the Rose Song dropped last week, apparently its illegal to add songs to a musical you're doing for a school play; I really thought the show would brush past that irl rule but I guess they are playing into it
THE WAY EVERYONE TURNED TO EJ FOR THE SPORTS METAPHOR I AM D Y I N G AND HIS FACE WAS GOLDEN! ITS LIKE THAT LISA SIMPSON MEME SHHSHSH
Okay Nini is being a little pissy about leaving her song out of the show and its a little selfish to wanna keep it at the risk of being disqualified but I also understand why she's hurt
Everyone is dog piling on her right now being against her idea and it feels like they are being against her song and her herself instead of them not wanting to be disqualified. Also like she poured her heart and soul into the song after Miss Jenn lowkey rushed her to write it. So I can see why this feels like a rejection of her and her song and why she's so hurt rather than her seeing the big picture right now
It doesn't help that Ricky said the final blow causing her to walk off
Okay maybe Zackey gets some rights for being chill and wanting the kids to be peers
THIS MOTHERFUCKER I KNEW HE WAS SHADY Also the way I gasped even though I predicted he stole the mask halfway through this ep shshsh
Stab him Miss Jenn STAB HIM
Bitch why you so threatened by East High if yall have such a Broadway-esque show planned??? They honestly should have stuck to the Little Mermaid; I really wanted to see the aquarium
"It's just a song Ricky" "A song can mean everything" Do you get deja vu? Anyone else getting intense flashbacks to Jan when DL first dropped and all the drama happened 👀
YES PLEASE STAY CO ANCHORS Gosh I love them so much esp once you take the romantic connotations out of their interactions
ROUGE GRAND I'M SCREAMING
I love this long take of checking in with everyone's relationship status (still hate how romantically focused this show has become but still a cool shot)
I K N E W IT I WAS RIGHT
Okay but like looking at Kourtney's face I have never wanted to be wrong so bad GOD I HATE IT HERE I really think he likes her and I hope they work it out
Nini setting up her own music acc feels like when Olivia rebranded her whole IG to be just for her music stuff - love this for both of them
AHHHHH SHE'S NINA NOW YALL
I know everyone loves her as Nini but like I have always loved the name Nina and it really suits her to be honest also shows how she's growing up now and kind of leans into the lyric "I won't be confined to your point of view" from The Rose Song because Nini is the nickname Ricky gave her so it shows that she's outgrowing him too and I love that for her!
Overall thoughts; they really crammed all the North High drama into one ep huh. Personally would have liked it if all of this was spread out throughout the last few episodes; like different hijinks for every episode. I'm just a big fan of properly setting up the overall arc over the season instead of patching it together closer to the climax/end of the show. Cos now it lowkey feels like two different seasons - 2A felt like The Rini/Rina Show esp with YAC storyline and whatever was going on with Rina and now 2B is finally feeling like what this season should have been all this time

What are your thoughts on the deh movie? I honestly think it just didn’t need one.
I honestly agree. Tbh I wouldve been more okay with it, but i REALLY disagree w a lot of the changes. (Note: the rest of this ask does not speak positively abt the upcoming deh movie. These are my own thoughts and youre entitled to have your own if you disagree, but please keep in mind that these are my thoughts abt it and that I have reservations and concerns based on what ik abt the movie so far, or just dont read the rest of my response)
Like. Making Larry the stepfather now (and to add to the fact his actor is Hispanic in the movie when the rest of the Murphys are not, which isolates Larry A LOT when thats not the point of his character in the musical) or the fact theyre changing Jared too. Im a little iffy w him being South Asian given Stereotypes™️ and just *looks at Jared’s role in the musical* but to top it all off, from what I heard he’s no longer Jewish????? Which is just????? Dont do that????? (Giving rep for one marginalized group by taking away rep from another marginalized group is. Not good rep. HE LITERALLY COULDVE BEEN BOTH SOUTH ASIAN AND JEWISH AT THE SAME TIME LIKE ???????)
Not only that, outside of the changes like that to the story, from what I heard the people working on the movie have ignored Black voices and concerns in regards to things in the movie like casting and crew (Black actors who worked on the musical spoke about this on Twitter and Instagram) and thats just 😬😬😬😬 yikes (and iirc, sometime last year, instead of listening to these concerns and addressing this stuff, the people working on the movie just instead went “hey! Here’s Zoe’s Black friend!” And just. Please address the concerns of Black people, ESPECIALLY the Black actors who starred in your show, stop trying to earn brownie points for diversity when the diversity is basically all background and side characters and you wont even listen to the Black people who were in the musical itself)
And this is just a minor grievance compared to the above concerns, but Ben Platt. Cannot pass as a teenager anymore. I love him and ik hes the OG Evan Hansen but. I watched the trailer w the “how do you do, fellow kids” quote in my head whenever he was onscreen. Him playing a teenager in a Broadway show at his current age? That wouldve been more fine, the setting on a stage is different compared to movie shots. But in a movie where therell be closeups and stuff, they shouldve gotten someone else, the difference in live theatre and a movie is what makes this difference in whether or not Ben can play Evan Hansen again
#asks#chats#im gonna be watching it tho to judge but not in theaters#ALSO not exactly a grievance against the movie but i read alana will supposedly be more developed and like#i love alana. dont get me wrong. but im just afraid on whether theyll actually do good w her character#given that alana is the only canon character of color and the fact that shes one of the most hated in the fandom#and theres not a lot of Black people working on the movie#im just. so scared of the treatment alana is going to get#she deserves SO MUCH and if what they have planned for her makes people hate her more im gonna cry

Opinions on Sixway
Don’t worry, they’re mostly positive
So obviously Six made its broadway debut yesterday and I’m so happy for both the queens and for Toby and Lucy. It’s amazing to see how far this production has come since May 2019 and I seriously hope the show continues to grow even more.
Before I start, can I just reiterate that I have no bias towards any cast of Six? Anything I say here are genuine things I’ve noticed and I’m not trying to favour one cast over another.
Things I liked!:
The new costumes for Aragon, Boleyn, Seymour, Cleves and Howard! They’re all just improved versions of their old costumes that are better suited to their body types and more glitzy for broadway. What’s not to love?
In fact, I know this might be an unpopular opinion but I actually really dig Britt’s new Cleves costume and it fits with Britt’s more melodramatic and grandiose version of Cleves, and those make me gayer by every second. Although I don’t really see other versions of Cleves wearing this outfit, I think Britt suits the new additions. And again those boots
THE LIGHTING!!! They seriously must be going for an award at the Tony’s for their lighting, because a) it’s referenced a lot more throughout the show and b) they’re making a lot more use of it during the megasix.
I swear there’s been really small additions to the band arrangements(I come from a musical family so I pick up on these things) but, for lack of a better way of describing it, they’re mostly to do with bulking out the sound of the music than changing the songs (if that makes sense) and they’re actually really good so no complaints here.
The stage didn’t look nearly as big as I worried it would be. The stage in Boston seemed so massive but this one doesn’t seem nearly as big, which is good because sometimes big stages with smaller shows don’t work well together. It’s bigger than the arts, but nowhere near as big as the Sydney opera house so 🤷🏻♀️
The queens are just so confident. There’s no broadway nerves in sight and that’s great. Seeing how far they’ve come from the first sixcago performance only a few months ago is amazing and I’m so happy for all of them. From the moment they step on from Ex-wives they own the stage and kill it.
This is more of a general US observation but I like it so I’ll mention it but Andrea’s very quick and snappy as Boleyn. She’s not waiting about to think of her insults, she’s saying them really rapid fire and without hesitating. It offsets Abby’s more awkward and apologetic version of Seymour and just works as a good contrast between the two.
Also the queens backing up Andrea in DLUH seem so personally invested/offended by everything she does. Like almost screaming “WHAT?” And sounding so confused at “YOU’RE LIVING WITH HIS WIFE”. Idk if there’s like anything to analyse here but idk I liked it so I’m mentioning it. Deal with it.
Heart of Stone made me cry. ‘Nuff said.
THEY WENT FOR HOH AND I’M HERE FOR IT. IT IS SO FUCKING LOUD AND SO OVER-EXAGGERATED AND ITS AMAZING!
(in fact everything is louder and more over-exaggerated which was definitely needed for this bigger theatre imo)
“But we cannot guarantee that you’ll still walk at forty :)” Miss Abby Mueller you never fail to deliver on that line.
Wow I really love Brittney Mack.
That’s it.
That’s the point.
Okay but real talk her Cleves was always so melodramatic but they’ve taken this to the next level and I’m for it. Idk what exactly she does at the “take my fur” bit for Get Down but the crowd went WILD so I can’t wait to find out!
I think there’s been small, subtle changes to the backing vocals of AWYD but they really work. Plus, I’m a massive fan of the more angry and betrayed Howard’s in general so Sam delivers as always. She’s the only Howard I know to literally cry on multiple occasions and I love her for it.
I just hope we get more Mallory Howard’s in future because I’d love to hear her rendition of AWYD.
The argument after AYWD makes it seem seem like the queens are 30 seconds from ripping each other apart. Like they’re all at the end of their sanity and about to explode and honestly? I think that works more for the American queens.
That random fucking cowbell before IDNYL. It literally made me cry with laughter and makes me wonder what the fuck Parr’s original song was going to be. I know they’re still in preview stage for the show so I’m excited to see if any more extra lines or gags like these are added into the show as time goes on.
In fact that cowbell features at other points too I think, along with extra cymbals. And they crack me up. Seriously they’re so random.
Speaking of IDNYL, Anna seemed to be leaning into the softer side of Parr than she usually would and I’m here for it! US Six always had a more melodramatic than friendly Cleves and a more angry Howard, but something is needed to offset these characteristics. A softer, more insecure Parr is exactly what’s needed here.
Also the extra beats (idk how to phrase it) in the reprise of IDNYL were a really unexpected change but they work so well. Again, it’s bulking out the sound of the show but in a good way. Nothing seems cluttered which can be an issue when stuff is added to an arrangement.
Bonus mention goes towards the alternates. They haven’t actually done anything (since they weren’t on last night) but I love them so I’m mentioning them anyway.
Things I’m not so sure about:
The playbill/promotional pictures. This sounds so random but like,,,Anna, Adrianna and Brittney look very whitewashed in these pictures, especially Anna. I seriously hope this was just the result of a really really badly chosen filter and nothing more.
The Parr peplum. I genuinely do not understand why they had to change Anna’s costume because it was pefect as it was. The changes to the other costumes? They all make sense to me and I love them. But this...it’s just odd to me. Maybe it’s because I love both Anna and Parr’s OG costume anyway but it’s something I personally dislike and I don’t apologise for my opinion.
Not being allowed to film the megasix... but lets be real here who is actually listening to that rule?

I’m just curious as to what’s different about the musical on Netflix versus the og musical. I never got to see the musical irl but I’ve seen boots and adore the og show. So I’m just wondering how it’s different?
the focus is very much taken off the literal lesbian couple that the literal show is literally about. it focuses on the adults and their quest back to fame. it’s much more two-dimensional from when i saw it- idk, the heart of it is completely gone. it doesn’t feel personal anymore, like its just... it doesnt feel as much like an lgbtq+ story to me, lesbians just happen to be in it. also james corden. love the man, never what he’s cast as. also emma (the supposed-to-be main character) is just.... bland.... which i feel bad for saying because they’re just introducing the actress and she actually is lgbtq+, but for an audience to properly sympathize with the actual plot, emma needs to be memorable, and for me, the movie did not grant her that like the musical did. also, part of the plot (an added plot point that revolves around barry that didn’t exist in the musical because it wasn’t IMPORTANT) hinges weirdly on reconciliation, which is honestly a bad point to make. it takes away from emma’s background and how she’s still confident in who she is without her parents accepting her.
also, this is not a musical that translates to a screen. and that’s nothing against the musical- hadestown wouldn’t translate too well either, and that’s just kinda the magic of theater ?? too many transitions in the prom require a stage and not a camera cut, and it just looks awkward and misplaced on screen (which i can’t exactly blame ryan murphy for since that’s just the show, but...).
and i hate being negative about it. believe me, i really do. this show had me cryin in the audience bro it struck so hard. it just breaks me that its broadway run was short, and this film is what it’s going to be remembered as. it just upsets me that so few people saw the musical and all they’re gonna know is this ryan murphy nonsense. like damn. that’s fuckin crushing man.
anyway if/when the prom gets to go on tour....please see it 😔🥺
#sorry this is long i have a lot of feelings :(#fizz answers#the prom#the prom musical#musicals#the prom netflix#ALSO WOAH WHERED YOU FIND BOOTS???????
