HWASANÂ [MYG] đ
SUMMARY: Yoongi, the only dragon hybrid to exist, has done a lot to escape the life he has been put into. He killed those who held him just to run away, to have the chance of living a life heâs been longing to have for years. Even after switching continents, they seem to be after him, hunting him. When he meets you, he knows youâre one of them and thereâs only one way to survive - to kill you.
GENRE: smut  đ angst  đ action  đ fluff-ish
WORD COUNT: 11k
WARNINGS: enemies to lovers, mentions of murder and blood, violence, Yoongi rides a motorbike, cursing, blowjobs, fingering, Yoongi has claws and fangs, temperature play, his cum tastes different, choking, fighting for dominance, unprotected sex, breeding kink, Yoongi is stubborn but soft, fox hybrid!taehyung and iâm so soft for him
AUTHORâS NOTE: It is finally here, my part of The Hybrid Collab! I canât even tell you how excited I am to post this after months of planning. I think everyone agrees with me that the thought of Dragon!Yoongi is too much to handle. I had this idea in my mind for as long as Daechwita has been around now-it just took me a while to write it sksks.
Iâd also love to thank @spicykoreantatertotsâ & @yeojaaâ for betaing this fic and helping me with it. @kimtaehyunqïżœïżœïżœ Mags, tysm for designing this beautiful banner for me! Also; thanks for listening to my rambling and keeping up with me and this fic. It was so much fun cooperating your Taehyung into it, I love him. :(
NOW LETâS GET STARTED.
Running was all Yoongi had done for months now. Running away from those he killed. Running away from those who wanted him to get killed. Running away from those that held him ever since he was little, that taught him how to fight and kill. Running away from those that made him a murderer. Running away from Kkangpae.
Yoongi hates running (especially running away), but he had no other choice. He had to leave his home country behind and never go back, finding himself a new place to live instead. He should feel guilty, he regretted all his actions but by now, he only feels relief.Â
Kkangpae treated him like a fucking animal, like a worthless pet. He wasnât treated like any human being should be treated; he didnât even have a real bed.
All because Yoongi was a dragon hybrid, the rarest hybrid species on earth.Â
The lack of volcanoes in South Korea were the reason why Yoongi was highly valuable to the Kkangpae, because active volcanoes were one of the requirements for dragons to get born. As far as Yoongi knows, thereâs only one volcano in South Korea: Châuga-ryong, a volcano that hasnât been active for around five hundred years.Â
Around that time, the dragon species became extinct due to a natural disaster that Yoongi didnât know anything about - because he was still sleeping peacefully in his comfortable egg, buried deep beneath the lava.Â
Yoongiâs mother, a purebred dragon, died during the catastrophe, and she was not able to protect the egg. Because of this, his body was not able to develop the way it should have. His egg was found hundreds of years later by scientists. They used newly invented technology to develop the preserved egg and mix human genes into it. Shortly after that process was complete, Yoongi hatched.
Yoongi has never met another dragon hybrid in his life. Maybe he was the only one in existence, maybe other scientists created them the same way as he was created. Even if they existed, theyâre probably held the same way he was held - captured by some sort of underground gang and treated like shit.
Yoongi hated it, hated the way he wasnât even a real creature, that he was built instead of born and that he was sold to Kkangpae to be their guard dog. Even though he was a dragon, well he was supposed to be a dragon, those fucking scientists pulled some weird Jurassic Park shit on him. Did humans even believe in dragons? To most of them he was nothing more than a myth, some creature from a fairytale.
Yoongi almost screams in frustration as his memories hit him once again. The night he decided to end it all, to kill everyone he finds comes back into his vision almost every time he closes his eyes. Because hell, he was a great fighter, the best assassin anyone could ever train and he never failed an attempt of murder. Ever since then, his nights are based on either nightmares or hectic rides on his bike, this is why he lives on coffee and energy drinks even though they're too sweet for his taste, they keep him awake. If he stops to sleep, the memories, the dreams will return in full force.
During that time, Yoongi tries not to stop in motels because:
1. he canât afford them
2. he shouldnât waste time on sleep if he can spend them driving down the highway on his motorcycle instead, getting as much distance between South Korea and himself as quickly as possible.
As a dragon hybrid, Yoongi has several magic powers that typical hybrids donât have, simply because his body doesnât work like other hybrid bodies; he is born a dragon. Most of his genetics are dragon-like even though heâs now trapped inside a mostly human body. The only features that give off his inhuman origin are his eyes, green and purple irises, swirling around like lava, never resting. Some scales are splattered around his skin, but almost all of them are well hidden under his clothes - and Yoongi is glad that he can hide that feature because of the weird looks he would get if he had scales on his face or hands; no thanks.
That, and the fact that he can extend claws from his ânormalâ fingernails, which is quite useful in fights⊠and during other situations.Â
One of Yoongiâs biggest advantages is the ability of changing his body temperature to the extreme - whether itâs hot or cold. If he wanted to burn you, he could; if he wanted to feel cold as ice, he could do that as well. He used that power a lot back when he was a little dragon, not wanting to be touched by humans that didnât have his trust - not that any human has ever earned his trust - so he easily increased his body temperature until those who touched him left with blisters all over their hands.
People always think that dragons have the ability to spit fire, but apparently dragon hybrids can't. All Yoongi was able to do was spit acidic saliva with the ability to burn through all kinds of fabric and material (he even melted a spoon once because he hated the soup he had to eat) and whenever he was really angry, smoke would blow right out of his nostrils.
Kkangpae shouldâve known better than to train him until he was invincible. Until he was stronger than them, until he was able to ruin them one by one.
It didnât even take Yoongi an entire night to kill those who had held him his entire life, which made him Kkangpaeâs enemy number one. He obviously didnât get to kill each member, but he managed to ruin the leftovers by killing their boss, his wife and brother. The golden three, no longer golden anymore.
Which meant one thing: running away. Leaving South Korea with nothing but his motorcycle and never, ever, coming back. Yoongi doesnât know if he will ever get to settle down somewhere or even where to go next, he just knows that he will never be able to come back to where he originated.
He has been in the United States for almost three months now, after secretly hitching a ride on a very disgusting container ship. In the beginning, he didnât know where his adventure would bring him, but he has seen some beautiful places here. Yoongi even visits some of the biggest volcanoes in the country (he hates the volcanic mountains in Alaska, though, because the air outside is colder than what he is used to and Yoongi hates the feeling of icy air after a nice long nap in the comfortable lava) to spend some time relaxing his sore muscles. He just left his favorite volcano ever, the Yellowstone in the Rocky Mountains, a week ago and he really misses napping there, but if Kkangpae would ever look for him in the US, volcanoes would probably be an obvious spot to check for a dragon hybrid.
Now Yoongi is here in a cute little suburb that he doesn't even know the name of. Small droplets of rain are blocking the view from his motorcycle helmet and his gas tank is on low, so he decides to stop by the next available gas station and grab some hot coffee on his way to the bordering highway.Â
Yoongi didn't bring a crazy amount of baggage from Korea, because it's obviously difficult to ride a motorbike with an abundance of luggage. Instead he sticks to a simple black backpack with some clothes, money that he stole from Kkangpae, his phone, and an old notebook he uses to scribble down places heâs heard of during his trip.Â
Even though the gas station is quite empty, Yoongi acts out of instinct and pulls his cap lower into his face, hiding his shimmering eyes and starts to fuel his tank, looking around to check if someone has recognized him. Nobody catches his attention, until a girl on another motorbike stops to get some gas as well. Yoongi scrunches his nose, thinking that his bike was the only one in a suburb like this - because to be honest, he spent a lot of money on it, on spraying it matte black (instead of the bright teal it had before he ran away) and a bigger engine. It isnât one of the luxurious Korean brands, but a MV Agusta F4 LH44, an expensive ass bike that Kkangpae gave him for jobs out of their area.
This girl though, she rides a fucking Kawasaki Ninja, one of the fastest - and most expensive - bikes out there. He only has eyes for her machine, but once she pulls off her helmet letting her messy hair fall over her back and turns around to the gas pump, he inhales sharply.
Sheâs Korean. Sheâs fucking Korean and she rides a fucking expensive bike.
To Yoongi it can only mean one thing: Kkangpae. But, would they really send a girl after him, a powerful dragon hybrid? Probably not. The girl hums some unknown melody as she fuels her bike, looking around as well. Yoongi makes sure that she doesnât catch a glimpse of his eyes as he turns around to pay.Â
But the girl is right behind him, he can feel her body temperature on his sensitive skin and as he walks past her, he can smell something vaguely familiar. Thatâs when he decides to pull off a classic Joe Goldberg, waiting for the girl some streets down the road and follows her as inconspicuously as possible.
The girl comes to a quicker halt than Yoongi is expecting - simply because he didnât like to stop more often than necessary -, but heâs quick to park his bike and follow the girl into the establishment she walks in. Bread, Sweets and Treats, says the small sign and Yoongi cringes. Who would come up with such a name? Is the owner inspired by this one Korean band that has a track with a similar name? Yoongi shakes his head to get rid of the distracting thought, instead putting his cap back on and stepping into the cafĂ©.
She is nowhere to be seen, probably sitting in some booth further back, but as soon as Yoongi attempts to stride through the café, the girl behind the counter smiles at him.
âHi, Iâm Yura! What can I get you?â
He really wants to reply with ânothing.â But the smell of coffee lingers in his nose and who would Yoongi be to decline such a chance? âJust one regular coffee, black, please.âÂ
He pays quickly, just slapping some notes onto the counter as he looks around once more.
âThereâs a few empty tables in the back, go and sit down, relax a bit and I will be there with your coffee as soon as possible!â
That finally gives Yoongi the chance heâs been waiting for, strolling through the cafĂ© to find the mysterious girl and once he has an eye on her, he sits down three tables to her right. Sheâs on her phone, taking sips of some hot beverage but takes nervous looks around the cafĂ© from time to time and Yoongi wonders if she has seen him as well.
âYour coffee!â The barista smiles at Yoongi and places the hot mug in front of him. âAre you sure that you donât want anything else? You look quite tired and I bet some pastries can help with that!â
Yoongi tries to crack a smile, but he knows people are most likely afraid once they lock eyes with him, but it seems like that his eyes arenât anything that scares the friendly girl as he mutters a soft âIâm fine, thank you.â
He dares to take another look to his left, a silent gasp leaving his lips. There, on her right arm, is a tattoo of a dragon crawling up to her elbow. The symbol of Kkangpae, inked right into her skin. Yoongiâs assumptions were correct, she is one of those bastards and the only reason sheâs here must be to kill him. But Yoongi isnât one to have that, heâll be quicker.
Patience is key, he reminds himself as he slowly sips his coffee, keeping an eye on that girl as he thinks about that one night again.
Things happen quickly then, the girl stands up and leaves to go to the restroom, but as soon as Yoongi plans to follow her, an elderly lady goes in there as well.
He sighs, pulling off his cap just to run his hands through his hair before quickly putting it back on, covering his eyes as much as possible. The hunter's knife in his boots feels heavy, ready to be used, but Yoongi doesnât want to make a scene right here. It would cause more trouble than being effective - and he couldnât find out more about Kkangpaeâs plans in the middle of a cafĂ©. On the other hand, Yoongi canât risk losing her, thatâs why he acts out of instinct once she comes back from the bathroom.
She makes her way past his table, Yoongi stands up quickly to follow her - and once sheâs near the exit, he jumps onto her, slamming his full body weight against her smaller frame and smashes her into one of the tables, the wood breaking under their combined weights. His claws are out and he can feel his skin burning up during his rage as he snarls a low, âWhatâs your name? What are you doing here and where are the others?â at her.Â
She must be a tough one though, because even if sheâs scared, she doesnât show it. Instead, she glares up at him. âWhy would I tell someone that attacks me in the middle of a coffee shop my name? Fuck, get off of me, you freak! What even are you?â
Yoongi smirks, pushing her even further into the remains of the table. âMin Yoongi, I think I ruined a bit of your family business.â
Now, her eyes widen in shock as she tries to get out of his burning grip around her throat once more. âYou donât have to kill meâ, she whispers. âI donât belong to them. Not anymore. After you killed my father and my uncle, I knew it would be the best to get out of it as well, trust me!â
Yoongi laughs, head thrown back - and it looks kind of funny, because thereâs a little cloud of smoke coming out of his nose - before looking back down at her. âIâve learned one thing in my life and thatâs to never trust anyone. Especially not when theyâre wearing that cute little dragon tattoo on their arm. Sorry, but I guess you have to die too.â
An annoyingly high-pitched scream causes Yoongi to lose his guard for one second, giving the girl the chance she needs to break free from his grip. "Stop it, please," one of the baristas pleads, trying to calm some of the nervous customers down. Yoongi looks at him for a second, smirking as he sees the obvious features only mouse hybrids have.
The dragon hybrid snarls, showing off some of his sharper teeth as he grips his target again. "Don't you dare make a scene, mousey. It's been a while since I had one of your ancestors for lunch, you know? And I haven't eaten in quite some time." Then, he turns around to the girl. "I'm sorry love, but this situation is getting a bit out of hand." He uses his foot on her chest to keep her in place as he grabs his favorite knife that's been sitting in his boot the entire trip, just waiting to be finally used.
Fate isn't on Yoongi's side today as another one of the baristas yells at him, running past some other tables to get to where Yoongi is standing. Yoongi groans, pressing the heel of his foot deeper into the girl's chest. "You stay there, little one, okay?" She doesn't answer, just grits her teeth to compensate for the ache in her body. The mouse hybrid freezes on the spot, staring at the scene in front of him. Then, Yoongi turns around to the new voice. "What do you want now, I'm busy and I really need to go after this, so would you let me do my job, please?" The irritation isnât easy to miss, but Yoongi's patience has always been rather low and he prefers to get over this before the rest of Kkangpae arrives as well. "I don't belong to them anymore, fucking hell!" The girl yells once more, nails digging into Yoongi's jeans-clad calf.
âIâm the manager,â the other barista slash manager says, âYou have two seconds before I call the police. Get the hell ââ Yoongi gets ready to leave yet another snarky remark as a rather lean looking guy pushes her behind his frame.Â
âIâve heard rumors about your existence, I was skeptical about it â but anything is possible from where you came from.â
Yoongiâs eyes scan the stranger, thinking about how high his chances are to win another fight when he realizes that heâs one of the rarest hybrid breeds, not a regular fox but a canadian marble fox - which are often held for their beautiful fur. He has been living with one of those in the Kkangpae mansion, the fox hybrid was more likely the opposite of Yoongiâs reason to be there: Yoongi was being held to fight, the fox was a lapdog, bought to look pretty in the leader's wife's lap.
The man in front of him has similar ears, grey with black tips and his amber eyes remind him of the old fox as well. Yoongi tilts his head in visible confusion as he locks eyes with the man.
âIâm not one of them, my nameâs Y/N! Iâve heard that you killed my father, my uncle and his wife so I used the chance and ran off, I didnât know Iâd see you here as well, Yoongi! Please, just fucking listen!â, the girl, Y/N, pleads with tears brimming in her eyes.Â
âYoongi, is it? Listen. You canât do that here, I know what you did to those who held you, but this isnât the right place!â, the fox hybrid chimes in again. Yoongiâs head moves up and down, he doesnât know who he should listen to, but he came for this one mission: killing Y/N.
âShut up, all of you!â He screams out of frustration, the knife starting to melt in his hands because of the unbearable heat radiating from his body. Yoongi drops the now useless weapon to the floor, the weight of his boot no longer suffocating the girl beneath him. She coughs a few times, trying to suck in as much oxygen as possible, trying to relax her wildly beating heart, but Yoongi doesnât care about her right now. Instead, he locks eyes with the fox hybrid. âWho are you?â His voice is low, quiet, actually, because Yoongi doesnât trust it enough to speak up.
âIâm from the Kim lineageâ, the hybrid says with raised hands, probably to prove that heâs no danger to Yoongi. âTrust me, I know a lot about our individual histories.â Yoongi breathes through his nose, another tiny cloud of smoke leaving his nostrils as he finally steps back from Y/N. âKim, as in Kim Jiho? That canât be it. Youâre related to him?âÂ
He eyes the other man skeptically, not really sure whether to believe him or not. He doesnât even look at Y/N whoâs been standing but not running away yet.Â
The other hybrid's answer shocks Yoongi, his eyes widening as he sees the frown on his face, combined with soft ears flopping down sadly. "That's my father."
The woman behind the Kim hybrid whispers something into his ear, causing the man to nod as he looks back at Yoongi, but aIso at Y/N. "Let's just take this outside, we can talk out there."Â
Yoongi's eyes flicker between the hybrid and Y/N, then he nods slowly whilst pressing out a low "fine". Just as Y/N starts walking past him he grabs her wrist and pulls her closer, whispering into her ear. "If you try to run off, I'll be right behind you, ready to rip your guts out." As if to prove his point, Yoongi heats his skin up once again, burning Y/N's wrist before smiling sweetly at her and following the fox hybrid out of the cafĂ©.Â
The hybrid, who introduces himself as Kim Taehyung, offers refuge to Yoongi and Y/N at his secret bunker in the nearby mountains. He uses the space to hide during emergencies. It isnât anything special, it is a literal fox burrow with furniture which totally confirms the impression Yoongi has on Taehyungâs style: simple, yet elegant.
Yoongi is even allowed to eat some of Taehyungâs self grown variety of exotic fruits that he is extremely proud of. He smugly offers a dragon fruit to Yoongi who only raises his brows, a challenging glint to his eyes as he grabs some of the lychees instead and pops them into his mouth. âBut youâre supposed to peel them!â, Taehyung screeches, his furry ears twitching in disgust, but Yoongi only smiles and eats one more, swallowing the entire fruit just to see Taehyungâs reaction once more.
âMy saliva is acidic, I donât need to peel them. Iâve been eating worse things, trust me.â
After Taehyung shows Yoongi and Y/N around the bunker (it even included a shower and a functional bedroom), he decides to call it a night and leave the two alone (not without them promising Taehyung to not kill each other, he would âcheck in the next dayâ to make sure of it) and heads over to his own little cabin nearby. Once Taehyung leaves, Yoongi pulls Y/N onto the worn out couch to actually sit down and talk.
âOkay, so you say youâre running away from Kkangpae too, right? Why?â Yoongi raises the eyebrow that was cut through by that ugly scar.Â
Y/N swallows, trying not to stare at Yoongiâs distracting eyes. âI was born into it, I didnât choose that life, Yoongi. Just like you I was just a part of their game. Iâve seen people die since I was a kid. Iâve never been allowed to have friends or sleep somewhere else because my father was too âworriedâ something could happen to me. Thatâs why one of his coaches trained me in different kinds of martial arts from the time I was able to walk.â
She looks at the hybrid again, shaking her head in disgust.
âOf course I knew what was going on with them, why they were behaving like that and I knew that my father and uncle were the leaders, so there wasnât any chance for me to get away from it. I tried, really, but once I found out that they got killed... I didnât know you did it, because the second I heard it, I ran. You can trust me, Yoongi, even though my last name might be occupied by all your prejudices.â
Yoongi listens the entire time, not interrupting her as he tries to understand what she was saying. âIâve seen you when you were a teenâ, he mumbles. âI age differently than humans, but I think you were just around 15 years old when you kicked that one security guy in the balls. That was kind of badass, not gonna lie,â Yoongi smirks at her, eyes glistering mischievously. Y/N rolls her eyes at that. âHe liked my dress way too much. One more reason not to wear those weird things at all.â Yoongi hums. âI bet you look great in those, but I do like your leather pants too. Anyways, what leads you to the US? Itâs not the most⊠unusual choice to run away to. Wouldn't a country like Greece or Egypt be better? They must be looking after you too. I tried hiding in volcanoes but it was too obvious.â
The girl shrugs her shoulders, shivering now that the evening starts to settle in. âI donât know, to be honest. All those countries sound nice and fun, but I donât speak their language. America is huge, too. I wasnât planning on staying in this town, but now that I met you, I mean⊠We could run off together, maybe? I can fight and I know how to use a gun and Iâve heard of your⊠powers, too. You might know how they fight, but I know how they think. Us teaming up would be useful.â She shuffles around, unsure about how Yoongi would react.Â
âAre you cold?âÂ
âWhat?âÂ
This wasnât the reaction Y/N was waiting for. âAre you cold? Youâre shivering. Iâve never used my powers in this way, but maybe I could help you,âÂ
Yoongi shrugs as he slowly touches her arm and attempts to heat up his own skin in a way that wouldnât hurt the girl. Y/N flinches at first, but the temperature heating up her body is too comfortable to deny.
âOh god, this is amazing,â she leans her head against the headrest and closes her eyes. âI havenât been this comfortable in a while.âÂ
Yoongi nods, he understands that. The bunker is the first place he might be able to actually sleep. âIâve been sleeping in volcanoes, like I said, but I havenât really slept since I left the last one. Not that anyone could come in it and try to kill me, but after two days of sleeping and soaking in lava, it got boring.â
âI wouldnât even mind bathing in lava as long as itâs this comfortableâ, Y/N whispers as she drifts off into a deep slumber.Â
Once sheâs asleep, Yoongi removes his hand slowly and looks around to find a comforter to throw over her relaxed body. Then he decides that he finally deserves the luxury of a real shower, with real hot water (that he heats up even more), before snuggling into the bed and closing his eyes for at least a few hours.
The next few days went by like nothing, Yoongi and Y/N werenât really ready to go outside and face the world, so they stay inside the bunker to plan their getaway. They go out twice, practicing their fighting skills and helping Taehyung to pick some fruits (because Yoongi felt bad, he ate the entire mango stash in one night).
This evening, Yoongi prepares some food that he finds in the cupboards, some pasta and a canned sauce that he heats up in his hands, not bothering to put it onto the stove. Heâs at the point where he decides that Y/N deserves his trust, that she wonât kill him and heâs pleasantly surprised to have someone like that in his life.Â
Y/N steps out of the shower, towel wrapping around her delicate body as Yoongi plates the food on the makeshift table.Â
âI swear to you, my muscles are still sore from your training yesterday!â She huffs as she searches her backpack for fresh clothes. âCan I grab one of your shirts? One of us has to do laundry tomorrow, Iâm going to ask Taehyung how heâs doing it when heâs out here. But for now, I need something comfortable because I canât squeeze my tired body in leather pants and a tight tank. So, please, Yoongi?â Y/N smiles her sweetest smile, causing Yoongi to groan out, defeated.
âAnd what am I supposed to wear tomorrow? My old stinky one that I sweat into during training?â He raises the scarred eyebrow at her as he sits down in front of his own plate, starting to eat already.Â
Y/N pouts as she grabs one of his last clean shirts and runs into the bathroom. When she comes back, sheâs wearing that shirt - and only that shirt. Yoongi almost drops his fork.
Itâs not like those movies where the girlfriend wears her boyfriendâs shirt and it looks cute and stops above her knee, no. Yoongi isnât the tallest, Y/Nâs actually almost the same height as him - with more curves than Yoongi's lanky body. Instead, his âoversizedâ shirt ends just a bit below her ass. Yoongi would bet that if she bends down, her entire peach would be on full view for him.
âArenât you going to wear any pants?â Yoongi mutters. To be honest, he hopes she wonât opt for pants because⊠heâs just a man and even his dragon instincts think about sex from time to time.
âIs it bothering you?â Y/N asks as she plops down besides him, starting to eat right away as well.Â
There isnât much space between them and Yoongi can see her hardening nipples under the shirt that once belonged to him. He shrugs. âNah, but donât come ask me to heat you up just because youâre freezing your ass off again.âÂ
She quirks an eyebrow. âWould it bother you? Heating me up?âÂ
âProbably.â
Y/N pouts and turns away slightly after she throws a blanket over her legs, continuing to eat her pasta. âHow long are we going to stay here? We planned to leave for Italy, but when? Itâs getting colder each day and I donât like that winterâs coming.â
Yoongi stands up to go and wash his plate, not sure about the answer to Y/Nâs question.
âThereâs nothing holding us here. We could go and leave tomorrow, but we could also stay for a few more days, try to get enough sleep and take advantage of this bunker. I mean, would we get the chance to have such a perfect hideout again? Letâs use this opportunity for as long as we can.âÂ
Inside, Yoongi knows that he wasnât ready to leave just yet. He wasnât ready to face the world, not ready to be on the run again. âHow much money did you take with you? Wherever we decide to stop by next, we should think about a way to earn money.â
âI left with my card and packed some money from the familyâs safe before I realized it isnât that smart to run away with my credit card that could be tracked. I withdrew some more money and gave the card to a homeless lady,â Y/N shrugs as she dries the plate Yoongi has washed before placing it back into the cupboard. âI think I still have around 10 grand in my backpack, I really donât know. I didnât need a lot of money, most of it was needed for gas and coffee.âÂ
âYouâve been travelling with 10 thousand in cash? Thatâs kinda stupid. What are going to do if someone tries to rob you? Ugh,â Yoongi can feel the smoke leaving his nostril as he paces through the room, feeling restless out of sudden.Â
Y/N giggles. âAre you worried? Min Yoongi, the baddest dragon alive is worried about a girl that grew up with Kkangpae and definitely knows how to protect herself.â
Yoongi scrunches his nose, already feeling his skin heat up - but not in the magical way heâs used to. Nope. Min Yoongi is being shy.Â
âYou are worried! How cute! Are you sure youâre a dragon and not just a little lizard? One of those that live in the fields and kids go and pick them up to have them as a pet in some shoeboxes?â Y/N steps closer, gently bumping her hip against Yoongiâs before patting his head with a giggle. âWho knew that the bad boy thatâs one of the most powerful human beings is getting soft over a girl.â
Enoughâs enough. Even though Yoongi never had the chance to fall in love, to be in a relationship or build a real friendship, he has had more than enough experience in other things, having shared ruts and heats with countless other hybrids that has some sort of place in Kkangpae. He turns around, his instincts taking over him.
Puffing out his chest a bit, standing completely straight so he will hover over Y/N, Yoongi steps forward, breath fanning over her face. âDid you just call me a fucking lizard?â
His eyes are going wild right now, the purple and green swirling around even faster than the usual soft flow of colors. He growls, stretching his neck from side to side as he starts to feel his fangs growing, soon poking out of his lips.Â
Y/N smirks, tilting her head to the side, looking up innocently at the fuming dragon in front of her. âToo bad you canât change forms, huh?â She doesnât even get to add another snarky comment to her sentence as Yoongiâs body presses her against the rough wall, his shirt sliding up her body as he cages her in.
âYouâre acting like an ungrateful bitch, Y/N. Even got to wear my shirt like youâre someone that actually means something to me, yet youâre being bratty and annoying. I donât hesitate to get rid of people that act up on me, you should know that by now.âÂ
His hot breath fans her face and Y/N tries her best not to squirm under his intense glare. Then, she smirks. âYou wouldnât kill me.âÂ
âMhhm, youâre right, I wouldnât. Still, youâre being bratty and I donât appreciate such behavior.â Yoongi looks at Y/N, eyes still intimidating her.Â
âWhat are you going to do about it? Spank me?â She laughs, knowing that situations like this only happen in those new adult novels, not during an escape.
âI should, but maybe you wonât be able to keep up with it. In the end, youâre just human whilst Iâm nothing more than a cute little lizard, huh?â Yoongi looks at his hands, claws forming where his fingernails once were. âI donât remember lizards being able to hurt you, though. Wanna try?â His smirk is dangerous, but so alluring that Y/N just nods, not knowing what the night will bring for her.
Once they move to the makeshift bedroom, Y/Nâs knees start to get weak. Yoongi feels the change in her aura, smirking to himself as he stops right behind her, hot breath blowing on her neck.Â
âIs there anything you donât like, Bambi?â His fangs gently poke the juncture of her neck, not enough to actually draw blood but to make her twist under his touch.
âI donât think so, I mean⊠I guess I like⊠Yoongi, can you stop that for a second, please?â She turns around in his grip, cheeks blushing and lips parted. Yoongi cooes.
âThis turned on already? Canât even form sentences? Alright, Iâll sit down then and youâre going to tell me what Iâm allowed to do to you,â Yoongi smirks as he slumps on the mattress, manspreading to give Y/N the best view of the bulge in his pants.
Y/N rolls her eyes and sinks down between his legs, a dangerous smirk now lingering on her lips. âMaybe Iâll just show you what I like and you can take over from that? Figured youâd be one that prefers to be in control. Iâll go by the traffic light system if Iâm not okay with anything - or Iâll kick you in the balls, so donât worry.â
Yoongi doesnât even bother to answer as Y/N presses her mouth against his clothed dick to kiss it lightly. His hips buck slightly as she wraps her lips around him and starts sucking on the side of his bulge through the fabric. She smiles as his cock grows harder under her lips, but Yoongi is quick to pull her off. âI really appreciate your effort but are you down there to drool all over my pants or are you going to suck me off? I promise you my dick is human, not one of a lizard.â
She pouts, playing with the hem of his joggers. âWhereâs the fun in that? But fine,â Y/N rolls her eyes and pulls them down slowly, her nails gently scratching the skin of his stomach while doing so. As the waistband of his pants go past his cock, she is not even surprised that Yoongi isnât wearing any boxers underneath them.Â
âPredictable,â she mutters mostly to herself, but Yoongi grabs a bunch of her hair to push Y/N back on his, this time naked, length.Â
It costs her a lot of self control to not retort him with a snarky remark, as she continues to remove his pants slowly. Yoongi growls, but she just smiles up at him and grabs his heavy dick to stroke it two, three times. Then, she leans down to gently lick his balls, still not using her mouth on his dick.
Yoongi twists and groans, trying his hardest not to grab her and shove his entire length down her throat until itâs sore, but this woman is testing his patience. One of his hands is still on the back of her head whilst he uses the other one to lean back a little, just to get a better view.
âAre you done playing now, Petal?â Yoongiâs grip on Y/Nâs hair tightens, his claws digging into her head - and Y/N canât keep in the silent mewl that leaves her lips at the burning pleasure. âBe a good girl now, will you?â His voice is almost alluring her to do as he pleases, but Y/N wouldnât be herself if she follows his orders.Â
Their eyes meet and Yoongi has to admit that she looks perfect. Even though she isnât wearing any make up right now, hair still damp from her shower and eyes already clouded with lust, he wouldnât want any other person to be in her position right now.Â
She stares at his cock again, her own panties dampening at the thought of having it inside her. Y/Nâs tongue pokes out to play with his tip, tasting him and getting a feeling for the heaviness on her tongue as Yoongi pushes her down in one swift motion. A gurgling sound escapes from Y/Nâs throat, but she does her best to swallow his huge length, using her fist to stroke whatever canât fit.Â
âOh, shit,â Yoongi groans and throws his head back while trying to keep his eyes on Y/N at the same time. Her eyes are closed, lips beautifully parted around his cock and saliva already drips down her chin, even though Yoongi hasnât even really moved by now. âYouâll let me fuck your mouth, right, angel?âÂ
She nods as good as she can with a mouth full of dick, looking up at the hybrid in front of her. Yoongi hisses as he pushes his hips forward, losing himself in the feeling quickly as his thrusts get faster and sloppier. The sight of Y/N not only sucking him off but also wearing his shirt sends him close to edge quickly.
Y/N pulls off to take a deep breath and to wink at Yoongi before sinking down again.Â
"God, you're so good, Petal. Wanted to fuck that bratty mouth for so long now. Imagine your father seeing you like that, he'd die from the shock, his little princess on her knees to please the housedragon."Â
She moans at his words, fingers sIiding under her, Yoongi's, shirt, but the man is quick to grab both of her hands to cross them behind her head. He grabs her wrists as he plunges himself down her throat once more before he spills his hot load into her mouth with a loud growl a bit of smoke that comes out of his nostrils.
As Y/N pulls off, her eyes show the disbelief she must be feeling. "You⊠You taste likeâŠ"Â
"Cinnamon?", Yoongi smirks, his eye color now much calmer than before now that his inner dragon is somewhat sated - for now.
âYes, I was expecting anything, a double penis, maybe some weird forms or scales, but not cinnamon flavoured cum. Not that I mind, though. Tastes like that gum I used to have when I was still in school.â
Yoongi hums, stepping out of his pants now that they wonât be used anyways, his shirt following too.
âNow itâs your turn, petal. Let me see you,â he gestures with his fingertip, swirling in a motion for her to turn around, finally giving Yoongi the view that he had been curious about ever since Y/N came out of the bathroom with his shirt on. She isnât wearing one of those expensive lingeries that are nothing but lace, no. Expensive, yes. A sporty looking string is disappearing between her round buttcheeks, the rather thick waistband of it covered with the Versace logo. Yoongi hums, thatâs definitely what he had expected Y/N to wear, it looks comfortable but still seductive.
Y/N smirks over her shoulder, lifting the hem of her shirt teasingly but letting it fall down again to cover her butt. âMaybe you need privileges to undress me, Min. I mean, Iâm somewhat of royal blood, arenât I?â She gracefully sinks down onto his lap, arms wrapping around his neck.
A chuckle leaves Yoongiâs lips as he tilts his head. âDo you want me to call you princess now? Because I didnât know you were into that. Does babygirl also do the thing for you? I bet your bloodâs blue too, Iâd love to see that.âÂ
Yoongi traces his finger tip over her thigh, his claw teasing the soft skin there and Y/Nâs eyes follow it curiously. He presses down a bit, just enough to break the first layer of skin and draw a little bit of blood - enough to prove both of them that Y/Nâs blood isnât blue. âOh, too bad, not a real princess,â Yoongi pouts.Â
Y/n raises her eyebrow. âDid you just cut me?âÂ
âItâs not a cut, just a little⊠poke?â Yoongi wipes over the blood before bringing his finger to his lips and licking the drop off with a smirk. âDoesnât taste royal to me, rather muddy. But maybe thatâs what you get from living with Kkangpae for so long. Guess mine tastes like dirt too.âÂ
Y/N laughs, not even shocked about the fact that Yoongi seems to be bothered about her blood on his tongue. The melodic sound of her laugh makes Yoongi smile too, an actual, honest smile that shows all his teeth and fangs, causing Y/N to coo. âAnd suddenly you donât look scary anymore.â
Her eyes wander down his body, inspecting every inch, maybe to find something more dragon-like, maybe to just remember the skinship for much longer. âOh,â She breathes out, âYouâve got scales.â
Yoongi looks down at his stomach where some scales are shimmering in the bedroom light. âYes, I do have scales. Iâm a dragon, remember?âÂ
And to Y/N, theyâre beautiful. Theyâre not huge, not as dry or disgusting as lizards look like, no. Those scales must come from a line of beautiful dragons. They match his eyes, shimmering purple and green whenever they hit the light. But theyâre not only on his stomach, they are also winding around his sides and up his back.Â
Y/Nâs fingers follow them as she orders Yoongi to lay down on his stomach to get a full view of them.Â
The scales grow larger on his shoulder blades, probably where his dragon wings imaginely would be and Y/N canât help but kiss the rough texture. Goosebumps erupt on Yoongiâs entire body, skinship like this was never a real thing for him.Â
âFeels good,â he whispers into his arm, slightly ashamed. Y/N continues to pamper his skin in kisses and licks, biting the rougher areas here and there until Yoongi grows impatient and turns them around, growling playfully.Â
âLike I said, my turn now.â
Yoongi always has a thing for taking his time to please his partner, he isnât one for quick fucks without foreplay. So, he kneels between Y/Nâs parting legs, palms caressing the smooth skin that is covered in a few fresh cuts and old scars from practicing her fighting skills, but Yoongi definitely didnât mind them. His shirt has moved on its own, not even covering her panties anymore but ending somewhere above her belly button by now. As soon as his fingertips glide over the curve of her hips, Y/N shudders with a quiet mewl. âYoongi.â
âMhm, âm here, you look so good, Petal,â Yoongi whispers while kissing her ankles, her calves, and the sensitive area of her inner thighs. âTruly like a flower. You know that thereâs a flower called Dragonâs Breath? Itâs bright red and can survive in the heat like a champ, even their leaves are red. But I donât think itâs scent comes close to yours,â he hums in front of her clothed core, tongue poking against the wet spot on the fabric. âBet you taste even better, Petal.â
âYoongi, please,â Y/N whines, getting rid of the shirt by herself, the heat simmering inside her body is almost overwhelming. Yoongi looks up from the space between her legs, eyeing the swell of her breasts with a growl, muttering compliments again and again. He sits up the slightest bit to gently remove her panties - claws nowhere to be seen by now, even his fangs are gone and Yoongiâs just Yoongi, even though the arousal is visible in his eyes again.Â
He lies down, cock rubbing against the rough sheets causes him to hiss quietly, but his mind is somewhere else within seconds. How couldnât he with Y/Nâs soaking core in front of his face?Â
She canât see his mischievous smirk as he swiftly controls the temperature of his skin, cooling down his fingertips as he slowly and teasingly traces her folds.Â
Y/N yelps. âYoongi! Shit, whatâs that?âÂ
Yoongi laughs, holding up his unoccupied hand to her face, showing her how cold his fingers are by holding them against her cheek whilst the other hand works magic on her clit.Â
âUnbelievable. Warn me the next time,â she mutters as she sinks back into the pillows.Â
Yoongiâs hot breath fans the sensitive area before he broadly licks right across the flesh, enjoying the way her body jumps out of surprise again. âOh, oops.â
Then, he finally pushes one finger in, tongue pressing right against Y/Nâs clit as he starts doing what it feels like he was born to do. Yoongi eats her out with no mercy. Ignoring her squirming body and needy whines, he only concentrates on the places that bring the loudest moans out of her, massacring those until sheâs close - to stop with a smug smirk.Â
Y/N could reach her high by just looking at his face, red and breathless, but also wet from her juices, lips glistering in the light. Two of his fingers are still inside her, teasing her G-spot just as his lips start sucking the life out of her clit again.Â
Y/Nâs hands are buried in his chaotic mess of hair, pulling on it but also pressing him further onto her core until his tongue slips inside her as well. She doesnât warn him, too scared of missing another orgasm, but Yoongi also doesnât look like heâs about to stop this time, eager to pleasure the woman underneath him. Y/N screams as she reaches her high, hips bucking up from the bed, Yoongiâs head going with it, just so he can make sure that every second of her orgasm will be remembered forever.
He kitten licks her folds as she calms down; stroking her thighs, kissing her stomach while whispering praises. âFuck,â she rasps out, her stomach still heaving heavily.Â
Yoongi crawls up next to her with admiration in his eyes as he leans over to kiss Y/N for the first time. She can taste herself on his tongue, but who cares? The kiss is more gentle than Y/N expects. Yoongi seems to be switching moods from hungry to loving within seconds, but thatâs probably his inner dragon wanting to devour her whilst Yoongi just wants to take his time to make the night special. Y/N is the one to pull away, looking at him with dark eyes. âGet inside me, please.â
The hybrid smirks, tilting his head as he asks âHow do you like it?âÂ
âIâll show you,â she remarks as she pushes Yoongi to lay flat on his back. She climbs into his lap and sinks down onto his cock in one abrupt motion without even bothering to tease him.Â
The pleasure is overwhelming; Yoongi stretches her so, so good and Y/N feels so, so warm and tight around Yoongi that he loses all of his control over his body. His eyes are bright purple now, pupils forming into slits that remind Y/N more of a snake than a dragon. His skin burns up, almost too much for her to bear, but the hissing noises Yoongi releases are enough to hold on through it.Â
âFuck, sorry, wait a second,â Yoongi tries to push her off so she can cool down a little bit, but Y/N just shakes her head. She shushes him with a gentle kiss, careful of the fangs that now poke out between his lips again. âDonât hold back, itâs not hurting me. Be yourself, Yoongi. I trust you.â
Yoongi curses under his breath as he tries his best not to move, letting Y/N adjust to his size and the circumstances of his inhumane origin. Heâs never fucked a human, and even though theyâre not that much different from hybrids he knew that he didnât want to hurt her.Â
âItâs not only the temperature,â Yoongi groans, âI tend to bite and mark my partners. I donât know how your body would react to it, though. I sometimes say or do things that my human side would never say.âÂ
Y/N smiles at him, fondness blooming in her heart as she starts swaying her hips slowly, not breaking eye contact. âLike I said, Yoongi, I trust you. Iâm sure that youâre inside your inner dragon, that you wonât hurt me and even if I tell you to stop; youâd be able to. Now, câmon, donât tell me youâre getting all shy while your dick is inside me?âÂ
She tilts her head with a playful smile as her hands glide down Yoongiâs toned chest, teasing his perky nipples and playing with his beautiful scales. It was still hard to believe that the rarest, most powerful hybrid was right here with her, laying underneath her, sharing this moment with her.
âNow come on, Yoongi, wake up the dragon and give me what youâve promised.â
Yoongi didnât need to be told twice, hands landing a firm grip on Y/Nâs hips as he plants his feet firmly on the mattress before quickly pistoning up inside her. Y/N cries in pleasure, but Yoongi almost doesnât hear it, too lost in the feeling of her tight pussy around his cock. Heâs still trying to be careful, keeping his claws under control so he wonât actually tear her apart.Â
ââm gonna make you cum so good, Petal. So, so good.â
Then, he flips them around in one swift motion, hovering over her frame as he looks down at her like only a predator could. âMine,â he snarls as he licks into Y/Nâs mouth, hips moving slowly but so powerful that her body pushes up into the pillow with each thrust. âSay it, Petal. Say youâre mine.â
Yoongi grabs her face so she canât break eye contact - not that she would, who could look away from such eyes? Theyâre hypnotizing and Y/N is sure that she will do just about anything for him right now.
âIâm yours, Yoongi. Itâs just you and me right now,â she breathes out as she grabs his hair, pulling his head closer so she can connect their lips once more.
Yoongiâs hips start to stutter, his orgasm approaching, but he didnât want it to end just yet. Of course, dragon stamina is different, but where would be the fun in that? Orgasm control and denial is a thing that Yoongi enjoys here and there, teasing himself whilst masturbating, not letting him or his partners come and delaying their pleasure for as long as he possibly can. Thatâs why he pulls out quickly, leaving Y/Nâs core clench around nothing.Â
âThe fuck, Yoongi?â Y/N whines and glares at the man in front of her, eyeing his sweaty body.
He laughs and presses a quick kiss to her lips before he sits back on his heels, staring at her body as well. Her chest is heaving, fine pearls of sweat dripping down the space between her breasts and her legs are slightly shaking - all of that is enough to boost Yoongiâs confidence as he quickly pushes two of his fingers inside her, pumping them at a rapid pace. His teeth - and fangs - nibble on her nipples, pulling them slightly, almost crossing the border of comfortable pain as he fingers her through her second orgasm of the night.Â
âDo you want to kill me?â Y/N sighs as she catches her breath, knowing that Yoongi is not done with her for tonight.Â
He laughs again, fangs shining in the light and tiny droplets of sweat fall out of his hair as he shakes his head. âI could, but where would be the fun in that? Or are you one of those girls that like the thrill of almost being killed? I could choke you if youâre into that.â
âOh, I am into that, but not after orgasming two times and knowing that there will probably be two more coming. Is that one of your kinks? Choking?â She tilts her head in an adorable way - too adorable for the position sheâs in right now.Â
âMhhm,â Yoongi hums whilst tracing the sensitive skin on her stomach. Y/N jumps slightly, shooting Yoongi a playful glare before quickly jumping onto him. She sits down on his abdomen, leans over and closes her hands around his throat. âDo you like being choked too?âÂ
âCan you handle me fighting back against it?â The challenge shimmers in Yoongiâs eyes, knowing that Y/N is nowhere as strong as he is, but he loves playing. He doesnât mind if she wants to be on top, he enjoys losing control once in a while, but his dragon usually hates it, fights against it.
Y/N loosens the grip of one hand to slowly rake her fingernails down his chest, leaving visible lines. âIâve never said no to a good fight, Yoongi.â
The hybrid growls, hands balling to fists as Y/N tightens the grip on his neck once again.Â
âThis is so hot, youâre so hot,â He whispers, eyes closed and lost in the feeling. Â
Then, Y/N lines herself up with Yoongi again and sinks down slowly, gasping slightly because the stretch is still there, but it feels so good. âGod, move, please move,â Yoongi rasps and who would Y/N be to deny him such a thing? She uses both of her hands to sturdy herself on his chest whilst quickly bouncing up and down his cock. The noises that Yoongi makes are music to her ears, heâs usually so quiet, but now he doesnât even try to hide the pleasure heâs feeling.
He groans, grunts, hisses and even moans whilst his hips buckle up to meet her thrusts. âFuck, Iâm going to breed you so well. Youâre mine, Y/N. Gonna be my mate, huh? Gonna carry my chicks, all beautiful and round.â
Y/Nâs eyes widen at Yoongiâs confession, but she canât deny the arousal that floods through her body with his words. âYes, Yoongi. Fuck, yes, breed me.â
By now the biggest roar leaves Yoongiâs chest as he pushes Y/N off, to grab her hips and position her on all fours in front of him. A harsh slap lands on her ass as he pushes in again, pressing her face-down into the pillows. âI will, Petal. You could never want anyone else after being mine. Nobody else. Just me.âÂ
His hand finds its way into her hair, wrapping it around his wrist as he pulls her head back, having her at full mercy.Â
Theyâre both a loud mess by now and Yoongi is fucking thankful for the bunker, because imagine if theyâd go on like this in Taehyungâs cabin instead - the entire forest would be able to listen to them.Â
Itâs gross and sweaty, wild and not gentle, but both of them enjoy it way too much.Â
Y/N canât even warn Yoongi before her third orgasm washes through her body and the tight clench combined with her sinful moans sends Yoongi over the edge too - spilling his thick load into her with one last thrust.Â
âShit,â he groans as he collapses on top of her, pressing kisses all over her neck. âYou were so good, Petal.âÂ
Y/N smiles, nuzzling back into him and closes her eyes to enjoy the comfortable post-sex silence. Yoongi hums quietly, giving the two of them time to cool down - he helps her by reducing his body temperature again -, then he pulls out. âEw,â he mutters as his cum gushes out of her.Â
âCreampies are hot whilst youâre still busy with fucking, but afterwards itâs just a gross mess. Wanna take a shower?â
Y/Nâs way too lazy to shower right now, sheâd die for a hot bath but the bunker didnât give her any chance to fulfill that dream, so she just nods. âMhm, yes, but youâve got to carry me, you big lizard.â
Yoongi furrows his eyebrows before sighing in defeat. âGuess Iâll need to show you my dragon once again.â He lifts Y/N up easily and carries her towards the bathroom, just to have her at his mercy once more. And this time, Y/N doesnât argue about him being a true dragon.Â
Days and nights go by quickly whilst Yoongi and Y/N grow closer each passing minute.Â
They spend their days together training, teaching each other self defense tricks and talking about which places they want to travel to next.Â
They do sleep together now, not fighting over who will get the bed and who will have to stay on the couch. Some nights are a bit colder, which gives Yoongi the opportunity to hold Y/N close to his chest while slowly heating himself up to a comfortable temperature to sleep in. In general, you could say that Yoongi and Y/N act like a couple - though they donât talk about their feelings right now.
Yoongi has never been in love and neither has Y/N, Kkangpae hasn't given them any chance to find a suitable partner to spend their lives with. So how would they know if love is what they are feeling?
What Yoongi does know is that heâd protect Y/N with his life - and vice versa.
Cuddling on the couch has become a thing for Y/N and Yoongi and he hates being unsure about the whole situation, he didnât want to label them, but he is itching to know whatâs going on between them. So one evening after dinner, he blurts out âAre we in a relationship? Like, are we a thing now?âÂ
Y/N jumps slightly in Yoongiâs embrace and looks up at the hybrid, unsure. âI⊠donât know? I guess you could say so, we do a lot of couple things, I mean last night when you ate my..-âÂ
âOh, yes, I remember. That was fun!âÂ
Yoongi smirks at the memory of last nightâs bedtime adventures, Y/N trapped underneath him, her legs wrapping around his head as he ate her out slowly and teasingly, before he just pulls her on top of himself to sit on his face. Now he has not only her pussy in front of him, but also her ass - and what kind of man would Yoongi be to not use this opportunity?
âI mean, I would⊠I would like to be in a relationship with you, Yoongi. I trust you, I really like you and I feel like weâll be spending the rest of our lives together anyway,â Y/N looks at her hands and bites her lip in anticipation, fearful about the manâs answer.
âThat sounds like youâre choosing to date me just because Iâm the only man around you, Petal.âÂ
He gently grabs her face, giving her no chance to break the eye contact. This time, the green in his eyes is more prominent than the purple - a rare sight, but Y/N is still in awe. âI want you to choose me because you actually like me, Y/N. Not just like, but maybe even love me. I know we havenât known each other for a long time, there canât be love between us for now, but I can say for myself that I am really close to loving you. I want to spend the rest of my life running away with you, not just because I have to.â
Y/N pouts, eyebrows furrowing as she looks at Yoongi. âI didnât mean it like that, Yoongi. But if youâre asking this charmingly, yes, Iâd like to date you too, you big baby.â Yoongi growls playfully, showing off his fangs - which he knows that they donât scare Y/N at all, but heâs proud of them, so he shows them off here and there - and pressing a gentle kiss onto her lips.Â
Feelings change kisses. Kissing somebody that youâre now dating is even better so the new couple spends minutes kissing each other carefully and lovingly. Yoongi is just about to get Y/N on his lap as the door bursts open and an out of breath looking Taehyung stands in the living room.
âYoongi⊠Theyâre here⊠Rats, but they smelled weird,â the hybrid pants as he looks at Yoongi.Â
The dragon just stares at Taehyung intensely, before nodding. âThanks, man. Really. For your help, for letting us stay here, take care of yourself, okay?â
All of them know that itâs now the time for Y/N and Yoongi to leave, not coming back ever again because Kkangpae would always have their men here from now on.Â
âThank you, Tae,â Y/N bows slightly with red cheeks, still embarrassed that they got caught.Â
âGood luck, guys.â Taehyung sends them a hurt smile, knowing that he and Yoongi could actually be friends if their lives were different, but now it was time to say goodbye so Taehyung turns around and leaves as quickly as he came.
Yoongi sighs as he stands up and starts gathering their things. âTime to pack. Youâll do the bedroom and Iâll collect our stuff from here, okay? I think the next stop will be South Africa, itâs a long trip but itâll be worth it, Kkangpae would probably never search for us there.âÂ
And so, they do end up in Kenya almost two weeks later, the US long forgotten as their lives go on.Â
The trip is actually fun, Yoongi and Y/N riding on their motorbikes - Yoongi is even allowed to ride hers for a short amount of time - taking the ferry instead of the plane and sleeping at random places in the countries they passed.
Kenya is beautiful, the temperature is perfect for Yoongi and he finally gets the glow a true dragon should have. He doesnât look as pale anymore, random scales growing here and there on his arms and neck and Y/N has never found Yoongi to be more beautiful. He seems truly happy.
The couple even started to go out, visiting different National Parks and trying to find some volcanoes for Yoongi. Y/N knows that she could never go near an active volcano, but Yoongi swears that he needed them at least once every two months to keep his dragon alive - though Y/N thinks he wants to take a long nap in the lava again.
During their time at the Masai Mara National Reserve they met another hybrid, a rare persian cheetah by the name of Hoseok. He greets them with open arms and is friendly enough to show them around.Â
Hoseok also gives them a perfect description of how Yoongi would find the only active volcano in South Africa on Marion Island. Thatâs where the couple is right now, Y/N swimming in the turquoise water around the island whilst Yoongi takes, to no surprise, a nap in the lava.Â
Theyâre genuinely happy, living more relaxed and peaceful than ever before and once Yoongi wakes up from his nap and sees Y/N still swimming around, playing with little fish and looking as beautiful as ever, he just knows that he made the right decision. Sheâs the one he wants to spend his life with, have kids with and die with.
They have a good feeling that Kkangpae wonât find them here. This can be their home from now on. Though, they wouldnât mind the chance to discover more of the earth, travel around and meet new people.Â
But South Korea isnât on their list, thatâs for sure.Â

What in the HECK happened with Scotsman, Dominion, and Dwight during the Great Gathering?!
(Also, since Dutchess of Hamilton has also been to the US during the 1939 NY Worldâs Fair, did she get involved?)
Warning - extremely long post below
So, first of all, Duchess of Hamilton never went back to the UK.
Duchess of Hamilton (6229) and Coronation (6220) had their nameplates swapped by the LMS when an engine was sent over to the US. 6229, in the guise of 6220, went to the US.
Streamlined locomotives were all the rage at the time, and railroads practically fell over themselves to get Coronation (as she was now known) onto press trains. The B&O railroad in particular was so impressed with her capabilities that they extended a formal offer of employment to her for service on their streamlined Royal Blue service. The LMS were surprised to get an offer to "purchase" their locomotive, but accepted nonetheless, as it meant a welcome infusion of cash in the dark days during the beginning of WWII.
Coronation fit right in with the Americans, having only been about a year old when she was sent to New York. Following the end of steam traction on the Royal Blue in the late 40s, (the B&O were early adopters of diesels.) she and her B&O coworkers found good employment on the New York Central, where she still runs to this day.
Since then, she's fully "gone native", marrying a J3 Hudson, (yes one of the streamlined ones) adopting both an American accent and three children, and being fully repainted to NYC silver by 1956. Flying Scotsman met her in Albany in 1970, and neither one of them recognized the other.
Actually, most UK expats don't recognize her, to the point where a common interaction is for her to be held up as an example of "look at her, she's integrated well into the US", only for the British engines to say "that's preposterous, she isn't English".
When it's pointed out that she's still obviously an LMS Coronation, the next response is usually screaming.
All that being said, she has no interest to come back to the United Kingdom, and wasnât asked by the NRM anyways.Â
---------------
Second of all, the Great Gathering was... an event.
So, there are (officially) 6 preserved Gresley A4s.
Mallard - static, National Railway Museum (UK). Also an asshole.
Bittern - running, private owner, UK based
Sir Nigel Gresley - running, owned by a trust, UK based
Union of South Africa - running, private owner, UK based
Dwight D. Eisenhower - static (officially), National Railway Museum (USA)
Dominion of Canada - static (officially), Exporail (Montréal)
This is the official list, and for the first 4 engines, it's the truth.
However, things are a bit hazier on the other side of the Atlantic...
-----
So the thing that needs to be made clear right up front that in a sentient vehicle world, museums aren't like the NRM, where locomotives sit static for years on end, although obviously the English have museums like that because of course they do.
Rail museums in the rest of the world are much more like Colonial Williamsburg - a living history center staffed by volunteers who act out a prototypical setting from [insert decade here].
British Rail, being British Rail, didnât know that and didnât care.
-
4496, Dwight D. Eisenhower, having been named after the General-turned-President, had been earmarked for preservation by BR, and was summarily shipped off to the US National Railway Museum in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
In an entirely unintentional move, this donation MONUMENTALLY snubbed the Smithsonian, who refused to have any dealings with BR for decades, even for archival purposes. This, combined with the fallout from Operation Smash Hit, and the fact that the Smithsonian is Petty AF, meant that there was virtually no official trans-Atlantic cooperation between British and US museums for decades.
Dwight hit the shores of the US in 1964 New York City and was greeted by a marching band, a ticker-tape parade, and Presidents Johnson and Eisenhower, who were on-hand to personally make the engine a US citizen.
Always keen to curry favor with the government, the Southern Pacific railroad had a job offer waiting for Dwight right alongside the Presidents and the parade, and when he accepted, he went off to Sunny Southern California - someplace so opposed to Britain the he fell in love with the place immediately and refused to leave!
The ladies may have also had something to do with it as well - while most engine classes fell into a typical 50-50 gender distribution, the SP GS-4 class was all female...
[Pictured above - one of 28 very good reasons to live in California if you're a single British steam engine.]
Dwight does not kiss and tell, but at his wedding in 1974, all 28 GS-4s showed up - and he was only marrying one of them!
Since the 70's, he's become a mainstay in California, having been repainted into Daylight Limited colors in 1969, and retiring from railroad duties in 1999. After that, he went into the movie business, and is currently the head of digital media development at Disney.
His wife Irene (SP 4437) is also an interesting figure as well - following in the wheelmarks of the great female locomotives before her, she had an eye for business and a Stanford education before she married her husband, and was an initial investor in multiple tech companies in Silicon Valley during the 70's and 80's, but stopped doing that after her investment in Apple proved very lucrative. In 1996, she was convinced by a few people in the Stanford Alumni association to invest in another tech startup, this one an "internet search engine" called Google.
So yeah, Dwight Eisenhower kept falling up and up and up all his life, and is now married to the richest woman in the world.

4489 Dominion of Canada was donated mostly by accident, having been forgotten in the back of Darlington sheds until 1966, when she was shipped off to the Canadian Railway Historical Society in Montreal.
As stated elsewhere, the Canadian Government considered any locomotive built in the UK to have UK citizenship, and therefore treated them as commonwealth citizens under existing Canadian law. (remember that Canada was still a colony at that time)
CN, the national rail carrier, was obligated to offer her a job under their charter, and she accepted, moving to Toronto to run intercity trains between Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa.
Within two years she was displaced from those duties by the introduction of a new, shiny, jet turbine powered train, and was summarily demoted to local commuter runs in the Toronto suburbs.
Moving to suburbia did one thing more than anything else - expose her to the people who live there. They all had complaints, they all had problems, and they all had no idea on how to fix them.
Being a helpful sort, Dominion decided that she could help, and promptly ran for Toronto city council in 1974. She won, and has been a fixture in local Toronto politics ever since - she even got to be Chairwoman of Metro Toronto (the closest thing to being mayor because Toronto's governmental structure is weird) until 1998, when Toronto was merged with the surrounding area to create a massive new region.
Having then done everything there is to do in municipal Toronto government, Dominion went on to become the Chief Executive Officer of Metrolinx, the agency that controls almost all of the transit agencies in Ontario, because, as she puts it, "I'm still a commuter engine at heart".
She's now painted in the current GO Transit paint scheme, and still does commuter runs- which is really weird looking now that there are double deck commuter coaches in a push-pull configuration, with a Gresley A4 doing the pushing.
------
Now, I mentioned that those 6 were the only ones officially preserved - there were two unofficial preservations as well...
-
4486 Merlin was properly Shanghied - he was yanked off the docks in Southhampton by a cargo ship in August of 1965, and was spirited away to parts unknown.
Those unknown parts turned out to be South Korea. There, he was given citizenship by the US-aligned military dictatorship (Korean history is wild) and was employed by the State-run rail operator.
As the military government began a hardcore plan to increase their country's wealth and industrial output, rail lines were being built across the country, and Merlin was soon awarded a position on the fastest train in the network, the Seoul-Busan Saemaeul-ho.
Because of his experience in running high-speed express trains, Merlin not only became the public face of Korean high-speed rail, but also became an "honored elder" amongst the other Korean engines, a position he still holds to this day - as despite being over 70 years old, he still runs daily trains on the fast services, easily keeping time with the Korean schedules as well as training the new high speed trains, including the KTX sets. He's on his 24th boiler by now, and has more parts from Hyundai than Doncaster.
An additional fact - Merlin actually has had a linguistic effect on Korean railroading, as his strange amalgamation of an accent - a strong Yorkshire accent that tried to be Received Pronunciation for 30 years, mixed with almost 50 years of middle-to-upper-class Korean - has filtered down through the ranks of KoRail, because all of his students want to sound like him out of respect. Human British expats in Korea will occasionally hear a locomotive speaking in English, and the engine will sound like a Yorkshireman every time and the Brits cannot handle it.
---------
4495 Golden Fleece is the only A4 to preserve himself - he saw the writing on the wall in the early 60s, and hopped a car ferry to France at the end of 1962. From there, he bounced around Europe for a bit before making it to the United States in the late 70's.
Of the 8 surviving A4s, he's probably led the quietest life of all - he moved to Miami before it got nice, and basically got in on the ground floor of CSX when that merger happened in 1980. He's now the head of terminal operations for the Port of Miami, but he's generally kept a low profile - not even having a chance to meet Scotsman due to his time in Europe.
He's still in contact with Dwight and Dominion, and has no real bitterness over not being "famous" like they are - he likes the quiet, and still lives in a modest house in Boynton Beach with his long-term girlfriend.
----------------------
Soooo... the Great Gathering.
It was supposed to be a meeting of the 6 surviving A4s - a two year event held at the NRM in honor of the 75th anniversary of Mallard's record-setting run.
"Record setting" is a past-tense term here. While there have been no official runs, every single one of the Pennsylvania Railroad's T1 and S1 locomotives claim to have gone faster than 126 without meaning to, and numerous other locomotives on unofficial attempts done late at night on flat stretches of land across the country have hit 130+.
British Expats have also done better than 126 - Coronation claims to have hit at least 140 on a midnight mail train in 1980, and in Korea, Merlin claims to have hit 128 on a test train, although that was judged by timing mile markers as his speedometer wasn't functioning properly.
Problems arose before any of the engines had even reached the NRM, as Mallard's already sizeable ego had swelled to massive proportions, and several engines in the great hall were planning a justifiable homicide.
Then came the time restraints - none of the foreign locomotives were willing to uproot their lives and jobs for two years just to sit motionless in a shed. A two year exhibition was eventually negotiated down to a 6 month gala, much to the irritation and confusion of the NRM, who could not understand that the engines were still in service.
Then came the extra engines - Dwight and Dominion thought that the NRM knew about Fleece, and were quite insulted on his behalf when he wasn't invited - they threatened to not attend unless arrangements were made for Fleece to attend as well.
An utterly baffled NRM agreed, but also tore their record archives apart, as they knew that Fleece had been scrapped. The fact that his picture was plastered all over CSX's Florida Division website was all the more confusing as a result.
-
Meanwhile in Busan, nobody knew that Merlin had escaped the scrappers' torch and therefore did not invite him. He was only informed after K-Pop star Psy texted him from London to ask if he knew about the event, which was being advertised on television.
Merlin, having missed his friends from the LNER, decided that he would just crash the party, used some of his many vacation days, and took off for England on a cargo ship.
-
By sheer coincidence, all four foreign A4s hit the dock in Southhampton on the same day, and were delighted to see each other - especially Merlin, considering that everyone else had thought he'd died.
Meanwhile at the NRM, delight was not the word one would use. Befuddled, confused, shocked even, but not delighted. Their plans had revolved around 6Â A4s, most of which wouldnât be running - only to now discover that there were 7, all but one of which were functioning! (Mallard, the star of the show, was the odd one out, and it drove him crazy)Â
Then they got a phone call from their man at the docks saying that another one had showed up, looking like heâd driven out of a K-pop album cover, and they just gave up and started screaming.Â
-
Screaming is also what happened when the cavalcade of foreigners showed up in York - first of all, the quartet of new engines sounded nothing like they had when they left England.Â
Dwight had willfully unlearned his Upper Crust British accent by 1971, and had fallen deep into a California accent (quite similar to what Scotsman sounds like - coincidence? No.)
Dominion and Fleece hadnât tried to unlearn their accents, but 40+ years of living in North America can really dilute the Britishness. It doesnât help that Dominion has developed most Canadian vocal tics eh?
As stated above, Merlin has a weird fuckin accent, and now he speaks English with a strong Yorkshire accent, but will occasionally and without warning drop into a Korean/Yorkshire hybrid accent.
The screaming also happened because the NRM had wanted to repaint the duo trio! quartet?! into LNER garter blue, and were promptly informed that âweâre painted like this for work! Donât touch it!â (the sole exception was Dwight, who hadnât pulled a real train in 14 years, but he liked his Daylight Limited paint), so instead of the new arrivals showing up in LNER colours, they showed up looking like THIS:
Having their long-lost siblings show up looking and sounding like THATÂ had quite an affect on the A4s and the other NRM engines:Â
Bittern could not believe her eyes - to the point where she actually began making noise about seeing an optometrist
Union of South Africa almost backed through a wall
Sir Nigel Gresley was speechless for two days
Mallard was so angry that he actually chipped a tooth during one of his rants about âthe impropriety of it all!!â
Evening Star laughed so hard that he managed to derail himself without moving
City of Truro almost cracked a piston from shock
Alycidon spent the entire gala coming up with more and more laser focused jabs at Mallard - who was so easy to fluster that the Deltic neednât have botheredÂ
Oliver Cromwell and Green Arrow made fast friends with the new arrivals, and spent the entire time learning âAmericanismsâ to annoy the other engines with.
But what about Flying Scotsman? Where was he in all of this? He was generally considered to be the âleaderâ of the NRM fleet (much to Mallardâs annoyance), and was usually who the other engines turned to when things started getting out of control.Â
Did Scotsman calm things down? Like hell he did. The inmates were running the asylum from the moment that Scotsman saw the other A4s - more importantly saw Dwight - and immediately greeted them in flawless Californian.Â
This actually set off the buildingâs security alarm, as Flying Scotsman saying âDUDES! Wassup?!â caused such an uproar that the noise broke several exterior windows.Â
----
And all of this was in the first few days - there were six months left to go.Â
--
There was one railtour attempt. It was supposed to feature Bittern and Sir Nigel running in tandem, but instead featured Dwight and Merlin, mainly because Bittern wanted to see what would happen.Â
They exceeded the max speed limit for steam traction within 15 minutes, sparked a thorough investigation by the RAIB, and got all future steam powered railtours for the Gathering cancelled immediately.Â
On the plus side, the two engines did prove that it was still possible for a steam train to hit 100 safely.Â
--
One thing that baffled the other engines was the inordinately large number of people who turned up just to see Dominion, and the one person who kept turning up to see Fleece - it took a lot of explaining for them to understand that Dominion had been married three times, and had children (adopted) and grandchildren from all three marriages coming to see her. A similar amount of explaining was required to explain that Fleeceâs girlfriend/partner wanted to see him too.Â
The normally chatty Dwight and Scotsman would suddenly clam up whenever Dominion and Fleece teasingly tried to ask about their love lives, something which wasnât unnoticed by the other engines, but got similarly nowhere.Â
The answer to why they both shut the hell up was explained when a lot of shouting broke out in the yard of the NRM one day about a month into the exhibition:
Irene Eisenhower, not content to sit in California and count her billions, quickly grew bored without her husband, and decided to go to England and be with him. The fact that she definitely did not fit the UK loading gauge was never even a consideration, and so she just showed up in York on the back of a lorry, having informed no-one of her arrival, and content to just pay off the requisite people if a fuss occurred.Â
A fuss did occur, and it was only ended when Scotsman managed to convince the museumâs curator (who at this point in his life was regretting ever thinking of this damned gathering) that Irene was a âtemporary donationâ to the museum.Â
[Scotsman, who definitely hid his Cali accent from museum staff the entire time, has one of the best poker faces in the world]
Dwight was overjoyed, and so was Scotsman, for initially unclear reasons. Then Irene managed to grab both her husband and Scotsman, dragged them behind a shed, and [THIS IS A PG13 HEADCANON] the both of [PG13]. Turns out that while Scotsman may have slept his way across the US a few times, he was actually ready to settle down with Dwight and Irene - they were a throuple way back in the 70s, and those passions havenât faded. When Scotsman reluctantly left the US in 74, a lot of the reluctance was because of those two.Â
This bombshell of a revelation went over interestingly at the NRM. Some engines (Green Arrow) were happy for them, some were incensed (Mallard - although it was for anti-American reasons, not homophobic ones), and some were intensely curious about what was going on in the outside world (Bittern).Â
-
The âforeignersâ (as Mallard had taken to calling them), were deeply displeased at how their fellow engines were being treated - while a lot of them were âin steamâ, some were not and might never be again, something they found abhorrent. Unable to do anything at that time, as the NRM was not a for-profit entity and therefore did not have anyone to bribe, (Ireneâs solution to things is to throw money at the situation) the engines started talking about how life was different in the outside world - namely that engines were still working hard, even when they were over a century old and running on steam power.Â
This was of great interest to engines like Evening Star and (6220) Duchess of Hamilton, neither of whom were likely to be steamed again, and Bittern, who was growing more and more curious with each passing day. Dissent began to slowly build against the NRM curators, and the culture of the United Kingdom in general.
-
One thing the foreigners did try do something about was Ellerman Lines. The poor bastard had been sectioned to show his inner workings, much to the jaw-dropped horror of the foreign A4s, who made such a stink about it that he was moved outside the museum by NRM staff, who must have thought that the engines lacked object permanence or something, because that didnât make it better!
-
Irene Eisenhower, who was beginning to get really sick of the nonsense that the NRM called preservation, (Scotsman was not in running condition, and had been hastily reassembled mid-overhaul in order to be cosmetically ready for the event, and letâs not forget poor Ellerman Lines) elected to bring the event to a close on her own after only three months. She did this by eventually putting her immense wealth to good use, and called for a haulage service to rescue the engines from the NRM without the knowledge of the museum staff. Aside from the A4s, she also took Ellerman Lines, Scotsman, and Bittern (who had asked to go) with her, and only bothered to inform Ellerman and Bittern - she was not about risk Scotsman having another âthink of Englandâ moment and staying.Â
The haulage firm was efficient and the cargo ship was waiting, so the engines were in international waters before the NRM opened the next morning.Â
Much swearing occurred in England that day, and the NRMâs image has yet to fully recover from the PR story that they had sold Flying Scotsman (and Ellerman Lines) to a reclusive American billionaire.Â
Privately though, the NRM does not care, as that story is a lot better than âSomeone stole our engines and weâre not allowed to get them back because as it turns out weâre slaveowners, so no international court will help us.â
Also, despite their multimillion dollar âdonation" from the I. Eisenhower Opportunity Fund, they still havenât been able to fully pacify their engines, all of whom have somehow gotten the idea that they should be running in main line service like they live on Sodor or something...
--------
Dwight, Scotsman, and Irene all live happily together in the sprawling Eisenhower estate in Malibu. Irene is currently lobbying the California state government to legalize polygamy, with moderate success.Â
-
Ellerman Lines, after a lot of therapy and a full rebuild, is now working on a short line in Wyoming. He likes the scenery.
-
Bittern followed Dwight, Irene, and Scotsman to Los Angeles, and used her âconnectionsâ (Dwight) to get a supporting role in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Since then, sheâs gotten several roles based on her own merits, including an Emmy nomination for Best Guest Appearance in a Comedy.
-
Merlin spent a few months in LA before he went back to Korea. He is very thankful that he was able to reconnect with his brothers and sisters, and that his homeland has good internet, as he video calls his family across the Pacific almost every day.
-
Golden Fleece still lives a quiet life in Florida, but finally decided to tie the knot, and married his girlfriend in 2017. The ceremony was supposed to be quiet, but Irene Eisenhower has no idea what that word means.Â
-
Dominion of Canada continues to baffle non-local trainspotters when she runs commuter trains into Toronto. She is now a great-grandmother.Â
-
7 years later, and the term âGreat Gatheringâ is still a forbidden phrase in the back rooms of the NRM.

Last week the @skepticbeliever-bookclub prompted us to post a selection of our favourite shyan fics so thereâd be a nice little way to highlight all the hidden gems of favourites we might already recognise and love while sharing a few we might never have found otherwise. Last December I posted a little list of some of my favourites so I figured Iâd dust off that list with a few new additions of particular favourites I treasure.Â
Be All My Sins Remembered by spoopyy
Summary: Â In every lifetime, they find each other.
Review: This fic manages to take you on a long journey through what feels like a series of AUs and they all weave in and out of the wealth of their relationship with some vivid descriptions of the historical settings their journey takes them through. As someone who grew up reading Anne Riceâs epics through historical events, this fic is right up my alley. A vampire Shane passing through the wave of human societyâs climb searching for a reincarnated Ryan again and again, trying to hold on to him and keep him through great tragedies and timeframes that just donât let them be together. This was one of the first fics I read when I was only a lurker and to be quite honest, I need to give this one a nice re-read, maybe for the book club which would be loads of fun. Either way, 10/10. Would be Hurt in the heart again.
Perfect Fit by @beaniegara
Summary: Â Thereâs a legend that says anyone able to take all of statue Shaneâs cock will summon the god to the mortal realm. Given the statueâs excessive size, no one has ever succeeded to prove or disprove the story. Until Ryan that is.
Review: Listen. You wanna talk actual fandom legends. This fic is one of them and it pulls out all the stops on being delicious and evocative. Also features one of my favourite incarnations of size queen bergara. Good stuff and youâre really rooting for Ryan in this lol.
a prize for rotten judgement by sarcasticfishes
Summary:Â âYouâd drive each other crazy. You sit together at your office all day, and then youâd be commuting home together, eating dinner together, watching TV together, going to bed â well, not together, but you get it, right?â
It doesnât sound so awful to Shane. There are worse people he could be spending all his hours with than Ryan Bergara.
Review: The moment I happened to glance at the notes of this and saw that Fieâs secondary title for this would have been Ryan and Shane move to the Suburbs, I about lost it with excitement. Primarily because the show this references is one of my favourite comedies and that is one of my all-time favourite episodes. Let me tell you though, even if the reference is lost on you, this story is so much gold rolled into a heart-gripping tale of two best friends who spend every waking moment together taking the plunge to share a home and they were roommates oh my god they were roommates. Shane is pining and youâll pine right along with him as youâll yell and holler for him to stop being so damn real and full of doubt. It really is worth every gasp of pain and all the more for the execution but the delivery will leave you in delight. Certainly had me yelling at the author. This fic is gonna be one of my timeless favourites; I knew it the moment I began.
Everythingâs Weird and Weâre Always in Danger by beethechange
Summary: Ryan perches on the edge of the bed, an indistinct shape that Shane can only just make out in the dark, so he turns the lamp back on. He wants to see Ryanâs face, wants to know that he is alright. Ryanâs cheeks are damp, his hands fisted in the hideous flowered duvet.
âIt wonât go away,â Ryan says miserably. âIâve been like this since we got here, basically, and it wonât fuckingââ
âAh,â Shane says. âWell, you know, sometimes fearâŠadrenalineâŠthey can affect people. Physically.â He waves his hands indistinctly crotchward. âItâs a, a scientifically known phenomenon.â Shane feels a little better staying in the realm of scientifically known phenomena.
Review: Word of advice. You see a fic is authored by beethechange, run donât walk because youâre absolutely always going to be treated to the best of banter, the best of prose, chemistry, organic execution and feels right up the bottom end of your heart. This fic, this changed everything I thought I knew I wanted out of a bed-sharing fic. Itâs got a little bit of two treats here. You got a sex-pollen-esque situation mixed with bed-sharing and holy fucking damn that is more than you think you deserve, but read this because you do deserve the best of the best. The build up, the dialogue, the surprisingly hilarity of it, the hotness woah, and The Aftermath. When you think you know what youâre in for, youâre wrong and youâre most pleasantly surprised. Get this fic in your life and honestly? while youâre at it, you could do a clean sweep of every fic in her list of works and while my less than adequate reading time management may still be short on some of her most well-recommended pieces, I have an adamant faith that Bee doesnât disappoint. Go get yâall juice.
Maelstrom by thewindupbird
Summary: Â Hereâs the thing about driving halfway across the country to see someone. You canât really deny, after that, that youâre pretty much head over heels for them.
Review: Listen. One morning on a day off, I just laid in bed and read thisâ all 40k+ wordsâ while lying there clutching my pillows, hurting and loving every moment of it. The descriptions of Americana, the slow steady metronome rhythm of Ryanâs feelings as frightened and helpless as they feel when youâre relating deeply to them juxtaposed with the deep-seated struggle of understanding what it is to be with someone you love so much but your mental health is burning quiet holes in your ability to express it in a way that can be understand. Ryanâs fierce determination, breaking through the silence of their non communication is really Everything to me in this fic. i think I really left my heart in the scene in Shaneâs parents kitchen. That finished me. Read this fic and understand the deep relief you get when youâve finished a fight with someone you fiercely care about and they understand you and you understand them and itâs OK; itâs gonna be all right. Augh.
5 times Shane had to overrule Ryanâs âNo Homoâ + 1 time he didnât have to by ghoulboyboos
Summary: There was only one thing that would truly drive him up the wall with Ryan, much more than any debate about ghosts ever could: Ryanâs consistent twitches of âno homoâ when any sort of physical contract between them happened.
Review: I have such a soft special spot in my heart for this fic particularly because Lud manages to examine a trope I tend to avoid in such a sweet and honest way I couldnât not love this fic. The story takes a painstaking and very real look at the âno homoâ issue as it weaved through the journey that was early days Ryan and Shane. Shaneâs reaction to in this and how he communicates with Ryan has such a very heartfelt and once again, real quality to it. I get in my feelings all over again about how far theyâve come and what it meant for Ryan to have Shane there. Lud really nails this piece and itâs a classic in my eyes.
A Burial on Box Hill by InkStainsOnMyHands
Summary: The Celtics believed that the yew flower symbolized both immortality and death. Meanwhile, for centuries, the buxus flower was seen as a symbol for safe passage into the afterlife.
Or,Shane and Ryan were never the same after investigating the Black Forest of Germany alone.
Review: Let me just quote my bookmark comment here. Usually I flee from tragedy like a cat spotting a cucumber but the brevity and the prose dragged me in and now Iâm a functioning mess. Bless this fic. Oh my god itâs short and reads like one of those quick horror stories youâll read to your friends just as the scary stories are transitioning from the urban legends to the ones that feel real. Big warning for main character death but still read it if you appreciate a good story told.
Body Farming by shiphitsthefan
Summary: Failed suppressants and a surprise heat: the worst of cliches, and here Ryan stands, living the trope on location with the alpha heâs hopelessly in love with. Even worse, theyâre spending the night in the famous Bell Witch Cave, completely alone and with no way to contact the outside world.
Ryan knows he can survive and keep his preheat a secret, as long as Shane will stop being so protective and concerned. After all, itâs not like Shane wants to bond with him.
Right?
Review: Now judging from the reactions of many people Iâve spoken to, big heavy ABO kink is not popular here but guys, GUYS. This one. Let this one in I promise it is not what you think it is. The dynamic is organic and the worst side of the trope is subverted in all the best ways and lord help us, the smut is hot, like swelteringly smoking. Itâll stay with you.
Believer by cellard00rs
Summary: Â Some demons and otherworldly creatures love climbing up the power ladder. Shane is not one of these. He likes where he is (thank you very much) and has no interest in moving up. All he wants is to give his friend Ryan a nice birthday gift. So, naturally, everything goes to hell.
Review: This fic is another fandom legend. When I think demon!Shane. Itâs this and one other one that always pops right into my mind. This was my first exposure to the bureaucracy meets the supernatural!Shane trope and I was sold from the get-go. The Shane in this fic is everything I imagine a demon!Shane is and his ginger care for Ryan, the concept of their bond and how even though Shane is a demon and responsible for keeping the supernatural a firm secret from Ryan and the rest of the world, his skepticism is relayed through his status as a demon. I want to talk more about it but I think so much of the enjoyment comes from the surprises as the plot unfurls.
hey boy, take a look at me by weakspots
Summary:Â Ryan is 27, for Christâs sake, and heâs not exactly hideous, so thereâs really no reason to spend his money on a dude â a dude â whose face heâll never see but whose livestreams heâs been jerking off to for roughly 4 months now. He should be going out and partying and fucking random chicks. Or a guy, whatever, just to get it out of his system and confirm to himself that he really is 100% straight.
Because he is. This is morbid curiosity, if anything.
Review: Iâve been a long-time fan of this universe and it was a universe I didnât know I needed until this author gave it to us. We or rather me, a desperate audience, just devoured this with every update. Not only is it hot, but it has the delicious intrigue of secret identity, anonymous stuff and a LOT of blush-worthy prose therein. This version of Shane makes me thrive but the titillating nature of straight-identifying!Ryan being bowled over by the turn of events that leads him to his world tilting into the gravity of a camboy just--you Have to read this one!
Heartbeat by quackers
Summary: Â So the guy Ryan sits next to at work is a vampire. Thatâs no big deal, right?
Review: I could talk your literal ear off about this fic. Vampires, man. I love the trope; you donât know me as a person if you donât know this at least. And this fic kept me fed all damn year. It was a readable garden. If there is one thing I can guarantee about quackersâ work, itâs that their world-building is a festival of detail. The realms and alternate universes they work with while still managing to keep Shane and Ryanâs voices so familiar and real is a talent not attributed to your everyday author. This fic propelled me into wanting to write more and more because quackers makes stories so much fun! Reading their work is, to me, not unlike the feeling I got when I was younger and finding series that speak to my need to escape this crummy existence, made me want to believe in fun spicy things like a vampire that lived through centuries, cynical but still searching, navigating a world where people are still people, adjusting to differences and prejudices, finding comfort in a guy that understands that and more. Iâve talked about this fic in more than a few different posts so Iâd just be reiterating a lot of things I loved about the more historical aspects of Shaneâs journey, the way Ryan is so firmly curious and inventive in ways to connect with Shane. Look, even if vampires arenât your thing, I can promise that if you visit quackers list of work, you will find something for your supernatural-lovinâ palate that speaks to a gentler side of your own curiosity about monsters and the jocks that love them. lol.
Iâll Crawl Home by carrieonfighting
Summary: Â âShane was almost unnerved by how quickly heâd settled into this body, this name, this life - his friendship with Ryan was the most time heâd spent with any human before, and yet the man fascinated him.â
Review: This is the second fic I think of when someone says the words âdemon!Shaneâ to me because ohhhh my word, this fic is a masterpiece. I really am hard-pressed to find anything better than the feeling I get when I think of demon!Shane headcanons interwoven with the irl Buzzfeed reality and the idea of the Ryan as we know him being protected and watched and loved so deeply by a demon that found him so long ago and wanted nothing but to protect him. I feel an almost vicious glee reliving that moment when Ryan and Shane are on goatmanâs bridge and man, I just really love canonical fic mixed with a slight twist. The writing in this makes it work so well with lines that still haunt my heart and soul like âRyan liked popcorn. So did the demon. Genuinely, not just out of a desire to please the human â he liked the way it crunched between his vesselâs teeth. There were some aspects of taking a corporeal form that were⊠nice; laughing, coffee, feeling warm. Ryan made him laugh.â FUCK! The beautiful agony of it, watching the demon fall in love with Ryan through the eyes of his vessel. Just stark with pain and unspoken, well-written angst and pain with a perfect ending, I wouldnât change for anything. I love this for us as a fandom and will always love that author crafted this piece and shared it with us. (Also every time I hear Work Song by Hozier, I think of this fic again and sigh).

Description: Once upon a time, Castiel Novak had everything. He had a happy home life, a full scholarship, and, if he played his cards right, a promising journalism career. And on top of all of that, he had Dean. Then tragedy struck, as it tends to do, and Castiel lost everything. At thirty six, heâs got none of those things. Heâs got no family to speak of. Heâs got a job investigating purportedly true tales of the supernatural for a magazine no one reads. And worst of all he hasnât seen Dean in nearly twenty years. So when research for an article turns him on to a witch who apparently grants wishes in exchange for stories, Castiel figures itâs worth the risk. If making a deal with a witch can get him Dean back, what has he got to lose?
Notes: This was absolutely amazing; both written beautifully and with a fantastic plot.

Tags: Horror, Psychological Trauma, Domestic Violence.
My Rating: 5 stars.
Description: Almost two years after the world doesn't end, Castiel falls from graceâand loses his voice in the process. It is the impetus for confession and change; before long, he is settling into a loving relationship with Dean, the Winchesters are tired, and hunting for a place to land has taken precedence to hunting anything else. Dean and Castiel fall in love with the strange little house on the end of Swallowtail Drive, and for a little while life is as it should beâsweet, affectionate, and beginning afresh. But more and more Castiel sees and hears things in the house that beg the question of whether or not a place itself can be alive. The walls and rooms seem to shift and grow and breathe, and one night, Dean comes home from a hunt changed in a way that Castiel cannot explain. In the months that follow, their domestic bliss takes turns for the dark and sour, and the confusion of their circumstances will ultimately test everything Castiel knows about the man he loves, and everything he believes to be true.
Notes: Excellently written, made me cry, and the ending was brilliant. Technically it isnât tagged as Cas being a writer, but he does write some poetry throughout, and I couldnât help myself.

Description: âChuck Shurley? Sure, Iâve read his books. Kinda Vonnegut, but like, Kilgore-Trout Vonnegut, you know?â Dean took another gulp of his whisky, and smacked his lips like an adult. The guy sitting beside him at the bar, however, did not look suitably impressed. In fact, he was staring down into the bubbles of his cider, not even noticing the way that Dean was smiling at him, giving him the eyes. âI thought his stuff was pretty good, in a kinda metamodern way,â Dean added airily, and a little more loudly. The guy only nodded gloomily. Dean almost clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth in frustration. Câmon, dude, Iâm trying to impress you. Twenty minutes of talking and all Dean had to show for it was a weird first name, a series of dour stares and the strangest need to know more about this â Castiel.
Notes: This was written so well that I wanted to cry at Casâ story of the stars, even though it wasnât particularly sad. Now I want to go and stargaze with someone.

Description: Dean Winchester is on the run from his life. He's done something unforgivable, and can't face his family or friends ever again. So he does what any rational person would do: fakes his own death and vanishes into the ether. Wandering aimlessly along country roads, he succumbs to the elements during a violent storm and wakes up hours later in the home of a stranger: a single dad living alone in an isolated beach house, with a haunting past of his own. Cas is sweet and shy, but welcomes Dean into his home and tells him he can stay as long as he needs, never prying into his life or asking him to spill his secrets. As they rapidly forge a close friendship, Dean finds that the quiet life by the ocean with Cas is exactly what he's been dreaming of. He only hopes his past never catches up with him.
Notes: This was so gorgeous and the plot was fabulous! Also, I loved Jimmy, and Dean and Cas as parents were adorable. Weirdest use of Coleâs character that Iâve ever seen though.

Description:Â Dean Winchester has the perfect apple pie life with his shy-but-sweet boyfriend in the suburbs. He has a steady, well-paid job with the LAPD and heâs charming and attractive. Really, heâs living the American Dream. Itâs his extra-curricular activities that some may disagree with, as heâs also an accomplished serial killer. To date, his kills amount to around 36 and heâs never been caught. Heâs employed by the law, remember? He knows how these things work.
*
A new serial killer arrives on the scene and despite the sloppiness of their work, Dean is intrigued by them and what they're trying to achieve, because their MO is the same as his; killing bad people. He makes it his mission to track the other killer down before the police do, and heâs left reeling when the 'Basin Vigilante' turns out to be someone a lot closer to home than he could have ever imagined.
Notes: I sort of watched Dexter a few years ago, and I absolutely love the idea of Dean as a vigilante serial killer. I only wish that the synopsis was a bit different, so the end was more of a surprise.

Description: Dean Winchester lived a quiet life running his bakery. Aside from family, Dean had no desire to let anyone inside. The more people you cared about, the more you had to lose; A hard lesson he'd learned at the tender age of eight when Deanâs best friend was kidnapped right before his eyes. Dean was forever haunted by the event, although he hadnât realized quite how much until Emmanuel James Milton breezed into his life; waking his sleeping heart with a complete lack filter and achingly familiar eyes. An author, with no family and traumatic past of his own, Emmanuel never felt like he belonged anywhere until he walked into The Honeybee Bakery and met Dean. Itâs not long before they find out that there is a reason for their profound bond.
Notes: It was obvious what was going on here from the start, but that just made it even cuter as they fell in love again.
I think it is a shame we didnât get more human Cas content, but I guess it is too late now. I hope you enjoy these fics, and if you ever have a specific list you want me to make, feel free to ask!

â
TW: content about binge eating, restriction, sexual abuse, depression, alcohol abuse, and dysfunctional familiesâ
Hello, hello, and welcome to my shit show of a life. Honestly, I donât expect anyone to read this, but I feel like just posting this stuff will give me more accountability. Plus its easier to type than write, so lets gooo online journal.Â
Since the pandemic started, I believe all of us have been going through rough times. From the poor to the people up at the top, we all have our own struggles. Iâve been blessed with a life of privilege to be born in a first world country (US), and in a middle class family, and Iâm incredibly grateful for it. But some days I feel like such an asshole, because I feel like being able to binge is such a privilege.
Now Iâm not saying that someone whoâs poor canât suffer from binge eating, but I personally feel so guilty when I do binge, not only because of my body looks right after, but also because of all the money, time and food wasted. While there are people out in the world starving, Iâm here, unable to control myself from binging. What made this guilt worse was me living in India most my life, since thatâs where my parents are from. I grew up seeing people on the streets, begging for food and money.Â
As a child I used to be really fussy, and I would cry and scream until I got what I wanted. That mixed with a dysfunctional family, and sexual assault experiences from when I was a child gave me anxiety and depression from a really young age. And the only way I knew how to cope with that was drowning myself in music, isolating myself in my room and eating. It was weird, because I seemed like a happy kid that just likes being alone, but on the inside I was dying. I didnât want anyone to see me, and I felt disgusted with myself all the time. I have a naturally curvy body, and since I was verging on obese as a kid, that part of me was very prominent. And you know the men in India, they stare at you like they ainât ever seen a woman. It doesnât matter if youâre a kid or a grown up, you got a vagina, they want it. Anyways, this made me wear jackets in scorching heat, made me not wanna look good because I thought maybe if I looked ugly they would stop looking, and made me want to binge more because of how disgusted I was with myself.Â
Iâm older now, and I know I canât do anything about my body shape, and its not my fault I look this way. Iâve even lost all the weight, and started going to the gym when I was about 15 years old. But through those years, I used to starve myself so much, because I didnât know anything about how to healthily lose weight. And that made skinny fat, so my thighs were still huge as fuck and I was so triggered by it. It didnât help that I moved to Japan by myself, and everyone around me was such a smaller frame, while I was looking huge as hell taking up so much space.Â
Everyone in Japan looked so skinny, and I wanted to wear the type of clothes they were, but I couldnât do that. That made go through a cycle where I would restrict and walk like 30k steps a day, and then binge on the weekends. Once I discovered alcohol, shit went through the roof. I would buy 3 large cans of vodka soda, skip school and just drink and binge on food. It was so scary, I didnât even realize what I was doing. Luckily that phase only lasted like 4 months and now I donât drink alcohol at all, not only because of the binging but because of the type of person it made me. Once I even stole food from my roommate, but I quickly went to the grocery store and bought back another bag so she wouldnât notice that I did.Â
Once I graduated from high school I came back to the US and decided to really turn my life around. I took a gap year because I thought I really needed to work on my mental health, and also because I didnât know what I wanted to do in university and didnât want to waste my parents money. This is probably one of my biggest regrets in life lol. Please donât take a gap year if you donât have a strict plan or idea about what youâll do. I was so lonely, because I donât have any friends here since I didnât grow up here. I couldnât go anywhere because my parents both worked all day, so I had no car, and since we lived in the suburbs, nothing was nearby. It was so depressing being all alone with nobody to talk to since most my friends were busy with university. Plus all the arguing with my mom, and just us not getting along really made me want to kms. I think if I didnât have my dog, I probably wouldâve gone crazy.Â
On the plus side, I started going to the gym and weightlifting. I started being more mindful of how I ate, and I was able to reflect on my emotions, and why I was acting the way I was. What was making me binge, what was making me feel so empty inside, and why was I finding it so hard to just âbe normalâ. I still donât have the answers to all these questions, but at least I feel a bit more in control of myself than before.Â
Since the pandemic started though, Iâve just been so depressed. The gyms were closed, financial situations got tight, my mom and I were fighting a lot more, and I started binging again. Throughout 2020, I was behaving the same way I was in Japan. Iâd go on 3-4 hour walks, and then restrict, which would ultimately lead me to binge. Its evident that even when you feel like youâve recovered and moved on from your disordered eating habits, its always in the back of your mind. Almost like an addiction. Its to the point that food is the only thing in my mind. After eating a meal, Iâll keep thinking about what Iâm eating next, when Iâm eating next, and to finish eating before my parents come home, because I hate eating in front of people.Â
Iâve lost motivation to do everything Iâve loved, like writing songs, learning the guitar, doing yoga, singing, gaming, etc. Its just food, food, food, and its so scary. People donât understand because its an internal thing. Those whoâve never been through it wouldnât know. Like my mom, shes obese, but at least she doesnât look at food like an enemy. She just likes to eat, sheâs not ashamed of her body, and sheâs also able to control how much she eats at a time. I wanna be able to look at food that way.Â
Anywhoooo, now that all of that is off my chest, Iâm dedicating this âblogâ to 90 days of getting back on track, and healthily reaching my fitness goals once again. This is really just for me, but maybe if somebody whoâs been through the same things I have reads this, they might find comfort in finding that theyâre not alone, and maybe theyâll be motivated to join me. Iâm going to get back into weight lifting, along with eating a healthy diet with just a bit of a deficit, because your bish has gained hella weight lol. I also want to get back into yoga and aim to be able to do the splits. My timeline goal is 12 weeks, but of course I wont be bummed if I donât reach it because its not like I have anyone to show at the end lol, but I believe I can do it if I really stick to it. Fingers crossed I donât binge.Â
Thank you for reading if anybody has really made it this far <3
-Luz

I got back from Portland last night and Iâm kind of sad now. Itâs not a place that I would have ever chosen to go on my own since Iâm more of a country person than a city person but I actually had a really nice time. I checked out the Lewis & Clark Law school and I've decided to apply there eventually since itâs second in the nation for environmental law.
Here are some things I liked about Portland:
-It was very clean. There was no trash lying around, no sewer smells, and the air quality was better than where I live.
- Even though itâs a city it was not densely populated. It had more of large town vibe. We decided to take Uber rather than rent a car, but we should have rented a car. The traffic was less bad than in the town I live in, even at rush hour.Â
- Itâs very pet friendly, and a higher percentage of the dogs there seemed to be adopted.
- There werenât many sprawling suburbs right outside it. Just the Columbia river and a railroad.Â
Here are some things I disliked about Portland:
-Too much smoking of both pot and regular cigarettes.
- There was a sad amount of homeless people.Â
Things we did that Iâd recommend:Â
- Visiting the Japanese Gardens and the International Rose test Gardens in Washington Park. Both were very beautiful and well maintained.
-Going on the aerial tram. Itâs very short ride but it was only $5 and the view over the city was amazing.Â
- Hiking around Multnomah Falls and the Columbia River Gorge.
-Visiting Powellâs Bookstore, which is the largest in the world.
- Going to the Saturday market and checking out all the craft and food stands.Â
- Reserving a night for just walking around the downtown and shopping. they have lots of nice houseplant stores.
Things we did that I wouldnât recommend:
- Going to the World Forestry Center. It was a cute museum but it was more for kids.Â
- Visiting The wet Spot Tropical Fish Store. Thatâs were I recently ordered some more of my endangered Ameca spledens from, and also Iâve heard hobbyists on here raving about it, so I decided to check it out. The tanks had a lot of algae on them and their choice to house their Ameca splendens (of which there were only males) with convict cichlids was bizarre to say the least. They also only had freshwater fish. Their betta selection and setup was nice, though.
Things we didnât do but would have if we had more time:
- Visit the Oregon coast.
-Taking a day trip to Washington.
Some things that were unexpected and different from where I live:
- Most of the homeless people were men. I donât think we saw a homeless woman, which was weird. In NYC, Cincinnati, and Philadelphia I observed a even mix of both.
- Iâm not sure what to make of the people there. A lot seemed more friendly at first but then started asking really personal borderline rude questions (like Tirazaâs race, whether or not we were a couple, did we hook up with any hot guys while we were there, whatâs our religion, do we smoke pot, lol).
- It didnât seem to have a lot of history to it. Most of the buildings were brand new. It makes sense I guess since the West Coast was colonized later but I was expecting at least a few historic landmarks, and more Native American stuff.Â
- Strip clubs were everywhere. Iâve never seen so many in my life.Â
- Â Vaping was just banned there but marijuana is allowed.
- The people there had no accent.
- It wasnât very diverse. My friend Tiraza and I were expecting more non-white people and immigrants since itâs a city. But she was the most exotic person there lol. No one seemed unwelcoming, though.
- There didnât seem to be a lot of  families. We saw lots of groups of friends, lots of couples, single adults, but not that many parents with kids.
- Also very few cops.
Places to eat that Iâd recommend:
- Motherâs Bistro - thatâs where I got the Greek Frittata on the left - very nice staff and whimsical decor.Â
-Â Izakaya Kichinto - a Japanese place where I got the ramen on the right. It was so good we went there twice. The waiters there were also very sweet, and there were these cozy mostly closed off round booths to sit in.
-Fried Egg Iâm in Love brunch cart - had delicious breakfast sandwich on sourdough bread rather than english muffins.Â

What are some cultural differences you (or your follwers) have discovered while studying spanish?? Iâm curious, iâm from the US & recently talking to my latina cousin I realised that when she says she is going clubbing sheâs talking about going out after 2am and coming back at like 8am!!! Which is mental to me, i need my sleep lol. So now i feel like there are so many things we do different & iâm so eager to find out more đ
Is this a culture thing or a language-y thing. Either way, in no particular order:
- Weddings are a big one. Latin American weddings are a BIG thing and go on at least 24 hours pretty much.
- Another Iâve noticed is that Spanish uses a lot of nicknames that sound really demeaning if you used them literally in English. Like in a lot of countries, you could just be known as el gordo/la gorda if youâre fat, or judĂo/judĂa âJewishâ if youâre Jewish. In English, if you went around calling someone âJewâ it would make you sound like a Nazi, and if you just referred to someone as âfatâ without any context you would sound like a monster. English is very PC at times and Spanish sounds very rude when translated literally. [I definitely took that one from Joanna rants but I knew someone who went by Flaco growing up]
- Iâve also found out that sometimes these nicknames just last for life? Like I donât know where I saw it but someone had been hearing their relativeâs nickname all their life and thought it was their actual name.
- Last names are very unique. I had no idea that so many Spanish-speaking countries had women keeping their own last names even when married.
- Names in general. I didnât realize that so many people seemed to have multiple first names. I have met people in the US named like âAnn Marieâ or âMary Margaretâ but it wasnât as common as Spanish.
- Also English tends to assume the last name you mention is your last name, while Spanish tends to have the first last name mentioned be the fatherâs surname and is the one youâd use most often. Or like⊠if your name was Miguel DĂaz Vega or something, in English-speaking culture youâd call him âMr. Vegaâ. In Spanish-speaking culture, youâd say âMr. DĂazâ.
- I didnât realize that for a time Franco made it so you had to give a child a Christian name in Spain.
- That Spain and Latin America donât always get along, which I did sort of know but I thought it was like how the US and the UK donât always get along but itâs a lot more intense.Â
- Also, not all of Spain gets along with all of Spain. And all of the autonomous communities have kind of a reputation among each other. Itâs kind of like how in the US everyone thinks of California as one way. Except in Spain itâs a little more serious and contentious at times.
- And some Latin American countries are like⊠openly hostile about other Latin American countries, which again, the US and Canada are neighbors and generally both speak English but weâve got stereotypes and not seething hatred. Not to say all Latin American countries hate all other Latin American countries, but I knew someone who nearly got disowned because they were dating a Colombian person.
- That âracismâ in the US is almost always black or white, literally. In Latin America most racism comes out as âcolorismâ. In the US and a lot of English-speaking places, people think of anyone from Latin America being a person of color. In Latin America, everyone realizes that some people have European ancestry, some people have African ancestry, some people have indigenous ancestry, some people have Asian ancestry, and some people are any combination therein.
Meaning that you could be âwhiteâ by US standards like a blonde and blue-eyed person who just happens to be Mexican or Puerto Rican, but the US assumes outright that youâre a person of color.
But in Latin American society, the colorism comes out in that everyone seems to understand that most people are mixed in some way, but thereâs preferential treatment or more representation for people of lighter skin tones. This comes out especially in families where some family members might just not associate with other branches of the family or ignore they exist. And that there are all kinds of words in Spanish (different words in different countries at that) for people who are light skinned or people who are darker, or people who are light skinned who act like theyâre darker and vice versa.
- Also there are weird superstitions and things that are kind of vaguely racist by US standards. Like in some countries if you see a black person itâs customary to pinch someone youâre with for good luck.
- In some places youâre supposed to pinch a redhead when you see them for good luck which is less racist but more invasive I guess?
- People are also very relaxed about certain words or traditions that I as an American have some politically correct visceral reactions to. Like in Spain itâs not that uncommon to see someone in blackface when itâs Three Kings Day, or how in the US itâs no longer considered acceptable to say âgypsyâ youâre supposed to say Roma or Romani, but in Spanish gitano/a is not seen as anything that bad except for when it is
- Also Three Kings Day is a thing and very important. I mean we do have the Epiphany in the US but unless youâre religious, it means nothing for you. On Three Kings Day, itâs kind of like Christmas because you get gifts and you leave out grass or food for the camels.
- I was not prepared for Pascua being used for both Christmas [also Navidad] and Easter by the way. Thatâs real difficult for me.
- You also kiss your elder family memberâs hands in some places. Iâm not totally sure if itâs like la bendiciĂłn exactly, but in some countries itâs a sign of respect or how you ask for someoneâs blessing
- âHeal, heal, frogâs tail/ass, if you donât heal today, youâll heal tomorrowâ when someone - especially a little kid - gets hurt or sick. Itâs kind of like âkissing a boo boo to make it betterâ except it is literally phrased like a magical spell
- In most places, the idea of âFriday the 13thâ is âTuesday the 13thâ in Spanish countries. Unless you literally mean a date, âTuesday the 13thâ is the unlucky day, which kind of makes me think of Ides of March I dunno
- Being told not to walk around barefoot because your ovaries will freeze
- Gross, but if youâre a girl being told to âserveâ your male relatives like your cousin or your brother; sĂrveleÂ
- Sometimes there are terms of endearment that translate very badly in English. I could never call someone mi gordito/a or mi negro/a as a term of endearment, regardless of body type and regardless of skin color and it translates as âsweetieâ or âdearâ. I would never feel comfortable saying those words to anyone at anytime for any reason because it took me years to get over feeling weird about negro/a being âblackâ
- Trying to figure out whether to use a comma or a period when talking about thousands because some people will do 100,000 and some people will do 100.000 and then SOME people will just do 100 000Â
- Itâs not a âpartyâ if there isnât dancing. If youâre just standing around talking, it feels like a funeral. You at least need a space where people can dance if itâs a party.
- Las Mañanitas being the Mexican Happy Birthday song and if you listen to it literally youâre just like âwhy are we talking about dawn so much??â
- âsuburbsâ in the US are nice places where people live who work in a big city, theyâre like nice slightly rural communities and theyâre the dream of the middle class. A suburbio in Latin America is a âshanty townâ or a âslumâ usually, like makeshift houses built out of sheets of metal and bits of wood.Â
- âMiddle classâ in general just means something completely different for the US than it does for Europe and parts of Latin America. In Europe especially the âmiddle classâ are the snobs who act like theyâre better than each other and are obsessed with materialism. In the US âmiddle classâ is âIâm not poor because I worked hard and Iâm not rich because Iâm self-made and I picked myself up by my bootstraps and I now live in comfortable stability with a wife and 2.5 kids and a picket fence and this is the American dreamâ. Europe is like âthe middle class is the worst part of humanityâ and is more like how the US would describe âkeeping up with the Jonesâsâ
- Trying to explain the times Spaniards eat is very difficult because in the US you have breakfast when you wake up, 12 noon is lunch, dinner is sometime between 5-7 usually. In Spain thereâs a breakfast, a snack, a second breakfast, a huge lunch, maybe another snack, dinner if youâre hungry but itâs late and probably tapas. Iâm like 90% sure that the US definition of meal time was based on a factory schedule because it is so weirdly strict and on a timetable.
- The US cares more about Cinco de Mayo and the majority of us donât even know what it symbolizes for Mexico, or that the majority of Mexico doesnât celebrate it
- The US is very rushed as a culture especially in big cities. If you make people wait for you, youâre the rude one and you should be ashamed. In a lot of Spanish-speaking countries, itâs more relaxed. Like Iâve heard âSpanish timeâ or âMexican timeâ etc when people are saying theyâre operating slower but I think the US is just VERY rushed
- The US is very weirdly affectionate and loving but also very prudish. Like we smile at each other, we laugh and say âI love youâ as a goodbye. But when sex comes up we act like it doesnât exist and it is so bizarre because it is the exact opposite in Europe because many countries would consider you being weirdly inappropriate or disingenuous for smiling at strangers or asking people how they are as a greeting [and make no mistake, in the US except in the South, we say âhow are you?â and if we donât know you, we arenât looking for an answer other than âgoodâ]⊠We really must seem like overly emotional liars sometimes to people in Europe.
- The grading system in general
- I canât even get into the metric system and Celsius. Iâve seen fear when I tell someone itâs 98 degrees outside.Â
- La chancla
- There are some superstitions that most countries have about not putting your wallet or purse on the floor and itchy palms meaning money coming your way
- People making jewelry out of baby teeth

to all the boys iâve loved before [pt. iii] | s.m.
a/n: ummmm this baby is a little over 3k and has an entire beautiful sappy cutesy fluffy scene that is not in the movie, i love it. iâm so happy with it. pls enjoy i hope you enjoy. send me some feedback if you would, i love hearing from you!
part i. part ii.
I was used to being invisible. But with Shawn by my side, people were looking at me. Talking about me. I could practically feel Genâs eyes searing into my back as I walked through the cafeteria with Shawn, his hand in my back pocket. And he thought that wouldnât do the trick. He spun me around to face him, and suddenly I felt like I couldnât breathe. But it wasnât because the people were looking at us, it was because Shawn was looking at me. His eyes were always so intense, and how does he look like he cares so much when this is all for show?
âThis is for you,â Shawn whispered into my ear, as he handed me a note. There were little music notes on the paper. My first lyrical note from Shawn Mendes. What an accomplishment. âGood job. Iâll see you in a bit?â
It was weird and almost off putting, being congratulated for doing nothing more than accepting a note, and having an ass pocket for Shawn to stick his hand into. But, I guess thatâs where life has me now.
___
A knock on the front door interrupted a serious baking session that I was right in the middle of. And when I say it was an interruption, I mean it was the biggest interruption it possibly could have been. It was a Shawn Mendes sized interruption, and one I wasnât exactly wanting to deal with currently.
âHello to you too, Pillsbury Dough Boy.â Shawn muttered to me as he stepped into the house. It was a fair comment, I suppose. I was wearing an apron and was covered in flower. So I wasnât a master chef, sue me.
âIâm making cupcakes for Sofiaâs bake sale,â I replied flatly.
âYou know brownies would be so much easier. Thatâs what my mom always did.â
âShawn Peter Raul Mendes, what are you doing here?â
Shawn laughed at the name, âWhat did you not read my note? It wasnât just an amazingly written lyric ya know? Iâm taking you to a party.â
âWhat? No you arenât.â
âUh, yes. I am,â Shawn fought. âFirst off, Genâs gonna be there. Second of, parties are in the contract. And you canât go back on the contract. A dealâs a deal.â
I rolled my eyes at him, âIâm sorry. I canât go.â
âCanât go to what?â My dad waltzed into the conversation at the exact wrong moment. He knew I had nothing to do today. Tonight. Or ever, really. âIs that Shawn Mendes?â He looked at Shawn with wide eyes. âLittle Shawn Mendes? Youâre as tall as me now.â
Shawn laughed, âItâs good to see you Dr. Y/L/N.â
âYou can call me Dan.â
âIâm just here to pick up Y/N and take her to a party. The parents will be home, and I will have her home early.â God heâs so good. Too good. He knows exactly how to work parents. What a shocker. âIs it alright if we go?â
âYes!â Dad practically shouted in glee at the same time as I said, âNoooo.â
âI canât go, I have to finish these cupcakes. I promised Sof.â
âI think Sof and I can handle some cupcakes, you go have fun with your friends.â
___
âShawn really, please I donât want to go.â
Shawn was basically dragging you up the stairs to the house party at this point. And Shawn wasnât having any of your lame ass excused. âNo, Nope. Nope. Weâre going. Itâs in the contract.â
We stood outside the door for a moment, and I nervously began pulling my hair into my favorite scrunchie before Shawn was grabbing my hands. âWhat are you doing? Stop.â
He took the scrunchie from me, despite my protest. âStop, I like your hair down.â And if it were for his dumb stupid kind eyes, you would have fought him on it. âYou look pretty, and Iâll prove it to you.â He pulled out his phone from his pocket and quickly took a picture of me before I could ruin it with some silly face.
âFine, but you canât lose that. Itâs my favorite scrunchie.â
âDeal, now give me your phone.â
âWhy?â
Shawn rolled his eyes, âWould you trust me?â Sure. Why not. Why wouldnât I trust my fake boyfriend who up until a week ago, only spoke to me if forms of apologies for his horrible ex girlfriends behavior.
Shawn took an admittedly cute selfie and made it the background on my phone, pulling out his phone with the picture of me heâd just taken of me as his background. âNow, letâs gooooo.â
I tried one last protest, before he was pulling me into the depths of the party.
Shawn almost immediately left my side to get us drinks. I found myself floating around, awkwardly, hovering over peoples games or conversations, until Gen called out after me.
âHey Y/N come sit with us,â one of Genâs friends called.
Figuring this is exactly what the parties were in the contract for, I ventured over at sat.
âSo, you and Shawn? Spill the deets.â Genâs same friend said.
âWell? What do you want to know?â There wasnât much to know, other than the fact that it was all fake, but that was obviously off limits.
âWell everything, duh.â
âDrop it,â Gen told her friend, âThey obviously havenât done anything because itâs Y/N.â
âWhatâs that supposed to mean, Gen?â I asked quickly.
âItâs pretty simple. I know Shawn. And I know you. And Shawn doesnât go for people like you. So you really donât have to pretend, honey. He might have kissed you in the seventh grade, but we all know that meant nothing.â Gen laughed as she stood up to leave, âWould you like a drink? A juice box? Maybe some chocolate milk.â
âIâm good, Shawnâs actually getting me a drink. But thanks for the offer.â I threw my best smug smile at Gen, right as Shawn hopped over the couch.
âHey babe.â
Gen was leaving now, but Shawn didnât seem too concerned. I took my drink from his hand and took a sip, smiling up at him. In another world, where Shawn Mendes wasnât...well Shawn Mendes, heâd actually be the perfect boyfriend. He was so pretty. The curls were irresistible. And he had this perfect mix of charm and class that just made everything about him ideal. But that wasnât the world I lived in. I lived in the world where Shawn Mendes was hopelessly in love with Gen. No matter how horrible she was.
âHey letâs take a selfie,â Shawn says.
I leaned in a gently kissed his cheek as he snapped the photo. If anyone ever asked me, Iâd deny it, but being with Shawn was comfortably easy. Iâd expected to be annoyed constantly by childish behavior. Or maybe that heâd try and push the boundaries weâd set. But...I was wrong. About everything really. It made sense why Gen had liked him, but Shawn liking someone like Gen; that was different.
___
âWhere are we going?â I asked as Shawn drove away from the party.
Itâd only been an hour since youâd arrived, and there was still at least a solid two hours before Dad would expect Shawn to have me home by. Shawnâs excuse for leaving: âI just canât handle Genâs eyes on us anymore. Itâs unnerving. And annoying.â Iâd been under the impression that Genâs lingering eyes were the exact reason for our situation to begin with. But itâs not like I wanted to stay at the party, so Iâd followed as he pulled me through the house without an argument.
âJust...be quiet.â Shawn huffed.
Folding my arms across my chest, I replied. âFine, but Iâm putting on music at least.â
Fleetwood Mac quickly filled the speakers of Shawnâs Jeep as he rolled down both the front windows and threw his arm out of the window. Not even a few minutes later, Shawn was grunting in frustration as he hit the steering wheel.
âShawn, whatâs wrong?â I asked quietly.
He just shook his head staying silent. I honestly didnât know how to handle a frustrated Shawn. Especially when I didnât know what had him in the mood to begin with, so I stayed silent, deciding to hum quietly to the songs instead.
Fifteen minutes later, and Shawn was still driving. Heâd still given no clues to where, in fact he hadnât said a single word since entering the car. But the tension in his shoulders had eased when Leather and Lace by Stevie Nicks came on. He smiled at the road, and sang the song under his breath. He didnât know I was paying attention, but how could I not. A relaxed Shawn was something special to witness, let me tell you.
Ten minutes later, and whatever was on Shawnâs mind upon getting into the Jeep was a distant memory. He was happily, and might I add loudly, singing along to Slow Hands. Heâd occasionally throw funny glances my way, and hopefully he couldnât see the fond look that I know was creeping onto my face. That would just be embarrassing. But how could you not look at this Shawn Mendes and be fond? He was giggly and happy and just being himself? I honestly donât think Iâd ever seen this version of Shawn before, now that I think about it.
âSo where you taking us, bub?â
Shawn shot up an eyebrow at the name, but said nothing.
âGeesh, Y/L/N, just let me surprise you, will you?â
You choked out a laugh, trying not to think too hard about Shawn putting together a âsurpriseâ when this was all just supposed to be fake. (For something so fake, it had a way of feeling kind of real.)
A couple minutes later, Shawn pulls his Jeep onto a deserted dirt road, and Iâm just now realizing that youâd left the suburbs behind quite some time ago. Weâd been driving on somewhat country roads for a while now.
âYouâre gonna kill me in the woods, arenât you?â I deadpanned.
âAnd I wouldâve gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids,â Shawn joked right back. Shawn rolled his eyes at me before continuing, âSeriously though, shut up for like five minutes, and youâll see.â
Deciding to once again not argue (a novel idea really), I just leaned back and surveyed the surroundings. You know, just incase I had to call the authorities.
But really all there was to look at were trees. Like...lots of trees. And a minute later, Shawn was driving through the woods. On a somewhat paved path. And suddenly, I was very thankful that weâd taken his Jeep to the party, and not my rinky dink car. It most definitely would not have made the drive.
And as if Shawn had timed it perfectly, he came to a stop in a small clearing of the woods as Slow Hands came to a dramatic close.
Shawn turned off the car and reached into the back of his Jeep where he pulled out a thick fleece blanket.
âYou just have blankets laying around back there, Mendes?â
âActually, yes.â Shawn looked directly at me, âMy mom always told me to have a blanket in my car incase I got stranded while it was cold.â
I blinked at him for a moment, not expecting a real response. âValid,â I finally muttered, hoping not to look like the fucking idiot I truly, truly was in this moment. âSo what are we doing?â
Shawn hopped out of the Jeep, blanket in hand, and rushed over to my door to help me out of the Jeep. The grass was getting wet under my feet from the dew forming. Shawnâs hand held mine as he guided me further into the clearing, and again, Iâm just hit with the this feeling too real. Not fake enough. Not manufactured. This was not in the contract. But pushing the anxieties aside, I could see the moment forming around me. Almost as if I were observing from the outside.
Shawn laid out the blanket on the grass, and layed down, gesturing for me to do the same. Eventually, after standing astonished for a second too long, I followed suite. Close enough to him to feel his body heat radiating out, but not close enough to touch.
âSo weâre here becauseâŠâ I whispered, not wanting to interrupt the quiet atmosphere.
âBecause, sometimes you just gotta get away, you know?â Shawnâs face turned to look at me. âYou know sometimes I think I like Gen, but then there are days like today when I canât understand why I bother with her,â his breath fanned over my face, intermingling with my own. âYou know she cornered me, in the bathroom of all places.â He turned to look back at the stars. âShe just pisses me off so much, Y/N. I wish I could just be like you, ya know?â
I didnât really mean to laugh, but it came out anyway. âLike me? What do you mean?â
âYouâre not afraid of her.â
I scoffed, âShawn, Iâm terrified of her.â
He shook his head, still not looking at me. But I was looking at him, how could I not? âNo you arenât. Like that day she was making fun of your boots. And you didn't even fucking care. You didnât let it get to you? You told me she had a chemical imbalance,â Shawn giggled softly as his hand came to cover his mouth. Almost as if he hadnât meant to laugh at something so rude.
âYou remember all that?â I asked shyly.
âYeah, I mean⊠I couldnât say anything because we were together. But...those shoes werenât just cool. I thought they wereâŠ.you looked hot in them. They worked well on you, yeah?â
âThank youâŠâ I whispered.
Staring at the stars with Shawn Mendes was surreal. The night was beautiful, the stars were shining, and Shawnâs gravitational pull felt indeniable. Like, I had to be closer to him. I didnât want to be closer to him, god, no. Heâs Genâs ex boyfriend. And Gen was honestly the last person I should have been making enemies of, and yet⊠There I was, laying next to Shawn. So close that our pinkies were touching, and if I wasnât mistaken, Shawn was moments away from wrapping our hands together completely.
But it was fake. It was all supposed to be fake. So why? Why do this?
âI donât know why youâre so obsessed with her, honestly?â I blurted out. Apparently lacking complete control over my body in this moment.
âWhat? Iâm not obsessed,â Shawn stuttered.
âSheâs your only girlfriend youâve ever had, eh?â Shawn nodded, âAnd sheâs left you for some other guy, yet you just wanna get back with her? Shawn, if she doesnât see what youâre worth then sheâs not worth the time.â
Shawn scoffed, âYouâve never even had a boyfriend, you canât really be handing out the advice.â
âI just think you should move on, if she doesnât want you. Thatâs her loss.â Okay, that was a little bold for my taste, but I guess bold is what weâre doing tonight.
âYou know, for someone so quiet all the time, you sure have a lot of opinions,â Shawn muttered under his breath.
âI think youâre just not used to people being honest with you.â
Shawn laughed again. He rolled over on his side, completely facing me. He rested his head on his arm, propped up and said with a hint of mirth, âYou wanna talk about honesty? Be honest, why havenât you ever had a boyfriend?â
âI guess no one's ever liked my like that,â I shrugged simply. Avoidance was key here.
âLies. I know for a fact that you were asked to spring formal and you turned it down. That is a verifiable fact. So donât go denying it. There are no secrets between fake boyfriend and fake girlfriend.â
âOkay, well itâs simple really. Love? Dating? Itâs fun to read about. To immerse yourself in a fictional world. To put all your feelings into a character or a storyline. To see something epic take place. To get a happy ending every time, in words or even just in your mind. But people are different. Real life, itâs different. Giving yourself over to someone. Trusting them. Trusting that they wonât hurt youâŠor leave you. Thatâs...Shawn, thatâs terrifying.â
âWhy? Whyâs that so scary?â
I turned on my side to mirror Shawn, âBecause...the more people you let in. The more people you let have little parts of you. The more people that come into your circle. Into your life...the more than just walk right out.â
âJust...like your mom, right?â Shawn whispered.
It wasnât supposed to be a sad conversation. I hadnât meant for it to turn out that way. It was all just teasing Shawn about Gen and yet here I was...pulling out the dead mom card. But it was the truth, it was my truth. When you feel the loss of someone so deeply, it changes you. And it had certainly changed me.
Shawn sighed, âYou know, Iâm really sorry. I donât think I ever told you when it happened. Thatâs not something a kid should ever have to go through.â
âItâs just hard...without her sometimes.â
Shawn smiled sadly. I hated those smiles. The smiles that just shot pity at you. That said âI canât relate, but Iâm here for youâ. Or that said âitâll get better in timeâ. Â
âBut you know,â Shawn started, âYour mom didnât just walk out. She loved you, but she didnât leave you. Not the kind of leaving youâre talking about being afraid of. Sheâs still always going to be with you. In her heart. In your memories. Thatâs nothing to be afraid of, Y/N. Thatâs something to treasure. You hold onto the memories and the stories. Thatâs how you keep her with you. How she doesnât leave.â
There wasnât really a proper response to that. It was more of a thing you thought about, slept on, took home with you. And so I just stared into Shawnâs eyes. Wondering who made him so smart. Who made him so perfect. Who made him so irresistible that it was completely and totally too easy to realize that he was just pretending.
That it was all fake.

Hampton Court Flower Show
Although I really hate gardening... I really love flower shows. We have been to them in Christchurch with Lynnette and Rick, and the Auckland one with Bren. When Mary said she had the opportunity to get tickets for the second day of the Hampton Court show, both Chris and I were delighted. We planned our trip around this date
The day dawned bright and clear with a slight wind. We had a leisurely start, waiting for the bus run to be completed, then headed to the flat at Wimbledon, where we would leave the car for the day. From there, we took the train to the Hampton Court station. We decided to take the boat to the gate to save 15 min walk. Chris can now say heâs been on the Thames!
People were streaming into the site by boat and foot. Pink was the colour of the day. With tents and everything official in what we in Nz would call breast cancer pink!!
Mary and Chris A went their was and Chris W and I headed through the throngs to look at the displays.
The show was set out over 25ha with waterway in between. There was a natural flow to the area which made it relatively easy to get around and see the stalls and displays. However, if I never see one of those plastic cube trundles again it will be far too soon!! You took your ankles and live at risk every time you moved!!
The first tent we went into was the roses. Wow - packed with amazing roses and shoulder to shoulder with hot people!! I was given a David Austin catalogue. Not that Iâll be buying roses any time soon but one can dream...
We got out of the rose tent quickly and headed over the bridge, nice and orderly- to the left those going over one side, right side those returning.
We had an ice cream because Chris W had the start of a migraine and it helped cool his head. He was able to see after about 20 minutes!! Interesting photos taken in this state!!
Around the stalls, everything from gloves for little people to equestrian gear. Know youâre in England now .. I do like the cut of the jackets.
We came across a cheese stall ... yum. Wensleydale cheese with lemon and honey, mature cheddar and cheddar with mustard and beer. Guess what we carted around for the rest of the day. The cheeses were about 5 cm round by the same deep. Having eaten the aged cheddar with dinner tonight, I can tell you it was worth the effort... thanks CW!!! Lol đ
The largest tent held all sorts of amazing flowers, cactus, and plants. Right inside were the gladdies... I want them ... will be checking out the catalogue with anticipation! The sweet peas ohh was tempted to buy a mixed packet but really donât want to even think about customs on the way home!! Then there were the tuberous begonias and the LIlies ... did I happen to mention that I actually hate gardening??? Oh yeah I did ...
The Bonzai trees were a wonder ... patience, foresight, inspiration, confidence and... green fingers - non of which I have!! What truly got me gobsmacked was the âweedsâ they were selling .... this is the stuff I grow well until Beachy looks, takes a deep breath, and says, nope itâs a weed!!!! Apparently wild woodland was the theme... taken to heart by most of the displays.
Outside in the trade areas were lots of different styles glass houses and gazebos. I didnât think English suburbs had enough room in their back yard for these. Some were rustic, others Mediterranean and others just plain weird.
Highlight of this area was the wee electric mower that mowed each day... all by its self.. using algorithms and strategically placed wires. Yeah... naaa!!
Into the country style tent with all the goodies for sale. Everything from fresh water pearls to old maps, scarves to Yorkshire woollen coats ... Lisa would have loved the orange plaid one. I bought a necklace to replace my pretty glass one that broke when I knocked it off the dresser in Brugges.
Message sent to Mary that we were sitting outside the pavilion with a cold drink. She joined us and we continued our wander after a well earned sit. Chris found Pork scratching ... phew hot and spicy.. I found mince square .. there were all sorts of pies but they were cold. The mince square, aka fly cemetery for Coasters, was beautifully flavoured but in a short crust. Good but I make better lol đ
On we wandered. There were several cheese stalls but we had enough and didnât want to be tempted. Dodging prams, people with wire supports for plants, bloody cubes, zimmerframes, motorised chairs and baby buggies, it was a trail for any saint. I found I got very sarcastic when yet another bloody cube tried to run me over or decapitate my ankles!!!
We finally, about 4.45, decided enuf was enough and headed to find a seat and a drink. We messaged Chris A to say there was a beer for him ... London Pride... if he could find us... good lad, within minutes he appeared and we commandeered a picnic table. Major accomplishment by Mary because the place was packed. Two beers, Pimms and a wine later, we were almost human and ready to launch out on the last leg towards the gate.
A noticeable thing was the number and variety of gins stalls. Not being a gun drinker this didnât appeal .. also Pimms.. which I do like and did have one... only one at ÂŁ7!!! It was lovely and cold and I rinsed our the cup with water to get thoroughly hydrated.
We decided to walk to the train station and have a quick look at the castle. Wow huge place it goes on forever... CW said he would have got bored as a bricky because the buildings were so big.
Mary was keeping tabs on the cricket ... shame the NZers playing werenât as conscientious.....
Chris wandered out the gate, heading the wrong direction and I called to him.. two âBobbiesâ were standing there and asked if they could help him .... No thanks Iâm just a lost Kiwi.... just like the cricket team... the bobbies were very polite and didnât rub it in.
Onto a 10 carriage train back to Wimbledon to the car and home. Very weary travellers.
CA and Mary put together a wonderful cold collation, shrimps, salmon, ham, salad, cheeses, bread and crackers. What a feast. Mary and I had a lovely bubbly and an early night... after a little tennis watching.... was had!!

V is for Vietnamese & Vintage
Us three ladies had always played it pretty safe by way of our lunch dates. Not to say the local deli isn't absolutely kick ass - it's very tasty and very enjoyable every time we go, but in much the same way as I struggle to go to the same country more than once on my holidays (excluding India, you can never have enough India) I couldn't help but think that life's a bit too short to sit in the same eatery every time we meet for lunch, given that the whole day is ours, and within reason, travel is no issue.
The three of us decided that we would try different cuisines every week, and with the girls (Laura and Dani) living in the quieter, leafier suburbs of Otley and Burley in Wharfedale, with me (Alex) living in what I frequently describe as the bronx, 5 minutes from central Leeds but gloriously populated by some of the best food joints in the country (confirmed) they usually end up meeting at mine and then we go into town to try somewhere a bit off the beaten track. Invariably, being three mums of young children, we eat at the speed of rabid dogs and end up having a bit of time to go explore some local weird shop or two, never anything mainstream like a department store. Oh no. We like vintage shops. You know the type, they smell like damp and the inside of your nan's wardrobe, and we prance around pretending to overlook the fact that we are just in a well laid out, slightly more selective charity shop without the undertone of giving. Usually there's some blue haired student with a headscarf and a faint stench of Bobby Orange pawing through piles of shirts and jumpers that are deemed as retro, when they've actually some of them originated in C&A - we remember that place the first time round, depressingly. The whole vintage scene is a bit ironic and try hard and a bit sad at times, but the one thing that it does offer is the piece you are often looking at, generally is one of one only in the store. The same goes for charity shops, generally. We like stuff that can't be bought in bulk.
Dani owns Deluxe Blooms, and is a luxury faux florist, and very good at it too. Laura is a nail technician and spray tanning afficionado, and the owner of Maibella Nails and Tanning. I own a salon called Lexa Hair, and the three of us work together frequently. The ridiculous thing is though, that work is going really well for us, and while in the past we may have dug around in charity shops for a bargain simply to be economical, now it has begun more of a habit. And you know what they say, old habits die hard. We don't have to eat streetfood on picnic tables anymore, and we can shop anywhere we want, but at least just for me, I don't like extravagance and I'm not impressed by labels or price tags. I like pieces that are unique, with a story behind them. My two accomplices sort of get dragged in to it I think, but they seem on board with most of it. I hope.
And street food is the best food on earth, everyone knows that.
We kicked things off with a visit to a fairly new (maybe a year old I think) Vietnamese place on North Lane in Headingley named VietBaker. Inside it's very wooden looking, quite industrial and urban, stained wood everywhere and dark red leather chairs. It smells like the rice cooker that's chugging away in the corner, mixed with plenty of garlic and of course, the fresh baguettes that are stacked up in a glass cabinet above the front desk.
We opted for a sharing platter for ÂŁ9, and from the menu us Yorkshire ruffians requested spring rolls (the deep fried ones, not the fresh, healthy ones obviously), prawn toast, and 'rustic chips'.
This was skin on chips with salt and pepper (well cooked and so tasty) and the prawn toast was understandably made of baguette slices. It made for a much heavier slab of prawn toast and therefore an even more unhealthy treat but man alive, was it good. The spring rolls were pork, prawn and the usual crispy vegetables inside. Not floppy or soggy, totally crispy and served with a really light and watery sweet chilli dip that's more sweet than chilli. It was all very lovely.
I've personally eaten from here a number of times and I think the Vietnamese have got it absolutely nailed when they make sandwich. Or a Ban Mih. Laura and I opted for one each, chicken for her and pork for me. Dani went for something off the new part of the menu, the fusion section, which even featured a take on beef bourgignon, Vietnamese style. She tried the Shanghai pork belly, served with rice. Her whole bowl was piled high, and we're not talking a polite, peanuts size bowl. More like a âfree ceramic crunchy nut cereal boxâ bowl, with the with tokens on the back of the pack, that youâd send off as a kid. It was huge. The second bowl was just plain rice, which worked really well as the pork alone wasâŠ. alot. It was sticky and tangy and rich and all those other wanky words that just mean amazing. I'm trying so hard to limit the wankiness. I like writing and eating, combining the two is hard work though. Bear with me. The slow cooked pork made me feel a bit gutted I went for a sandwich until I got stuck in.
Vietnam was a former French colony, and much like their neighbour Cambodia, found their local best offerings being bastardised to accomodate the 'local palate'. The nice version is that the baguette was the French's gift to the Vietnamese, although I imagine it was more a case of 'put your lovely meal in my baguette for me or you're in deep shit.'
I've never been to Vietnam but having visited Cambodge a few summers back, I remember being astounded at the gorgeous, light, dairy free Asian cuisine that had been shoved in a crusty, warm baguette. Whoever's story was true, it's the absolute bollocks.
They cut this freshly baked baguette open and spread it with patĂš on one side and on the other mayonnaise (already weird but hang in there) - add a ton of crispy green leaves, cucumber, pickles, coriander and fresh chilies, and add some meat into what little room is left. Enough meat to give you meat sweats. It. Is. Superb.
The pork was very finely sliced, dark and sticky again (here she goes) and you can bang on a fried egg, too, if you're an absolute wrong un. No thanks.
Laura had the chicken which was a milder flavour but none the less tasty and flavoursome. I noticed Laura pulling bits off her sandwich and delicately chewing away at them, while I picked it up and ate it like I'd been sleeping in the dark arches for the last month. I even had to be asked to wipe my face. Sorry, not sorry. No messing with a Ban Mih. Especially not this one.
The bill was a very respectable ÂŁ11 a head, and they threw in a free set of spring rolls for us, which was a nice unexpected surprise. The place had a steady flow of traffic, and although wasn't packed, I've been on an evening and I think it's safe to assume that's the bulk of their trade. It was fantastic food, very reasonable and highly recommended. Great staff and great location. We'll be back!
Afterwards we drove for about 3 days to find a parking spot anywhere near Hyde Park, so we could check out the newly (ish) renovated (OK sign replaced and possibly ownership changed) Vintage something or other in Hyde Park.
I forget the name, and if I'm brutally honest I can see why. It's alright, but it used to be alot better. The last time I went in there was alot of very old apothecary style wooden drawer units, some weird taxidermy, and unusual pictures in frames that would look incredible in the lounge. This time there was quite a bit of formica, and some hideously orange stained TV units that I guess in some context would be deemed as cool again.
The music collection seemed to be where the most effort had been made. The clothing was actually quite 'quirky' in the sense that you wouldn't actually wear alot of it, there was a whole department that seemed to have been handed over by the owner of the late knob head Jimmy Saville, shell suit after shell suit in every colour of the rainbow, in that non breathable fabric you'd get a two man tent in. Hideous. Still, there are some absolute finds in there. I would encourage people to bear in mind that these shops have a high stock turnaround and in their uniqueness, and ability to replace items based on sales, any vintage shop can be a complete bag of shite one week and a total gold mine the next. Its the luck of the drawer, I love that about them. That and the fact that we call them vintage shops. The three of us refer to them as shit shops, but potato patato.
I find it depressing that as I mentioned before, alot of the 'retro' stuff is just normal stuff we, in our 30s, encountered in our youth. There was a 'vintage phone' that was ÂŁ15 and I'm pretty sure my gran has it now. It's literally a BT ÂŁ10 phone still in argos, but clearly it had lived with a heavy smoker, adding to the aged facade.
Some of it was very authentic, some of it was broken crap, but the general feel of the place is a good one. There is more 70s stuff than anything else which is quite cool, but like I say, stock changes very frequently. Dani bought an oversized T shirt with a University football team logo emblazoned across it, and to be honest I would have too. There was a vast array of university related large varsity based sweaters, some unnecessarily cut in half width ways (why?!!!! Serves no purpose now, you fools) and that's the kind of thing I would have liked to look at. But as I was in charge of a one year old who was bombing around the floor, doubling as a human sweeping brush and coming back with more dust on him than the inside of the V6 after the attic stairs have been tackled, I gave it up as a bad job and put my bank card back away. No spending for mum today. Gutted.
The shop is pretty fabulous, on the whole. They do know how to charge when it comes to furniture, but the clothing is far more reasonable. It's not all one off pieces, a couple of items make an appearance a few times and that kind of ruins it for me, I start picturing some huge factory in China making hideously outdated clothing and leaving them in a damp garage for a few years, chucking a bit of tea down them and wearing the cuffs and collars down, before exporting the newly knackered pieces to us dumbasses in our 'quirky vintage shops'. Who knows. It's well laid out, and pretty cool, and although not my favourite, I imagine the next time I go it'll be a whole different experience. Swings and roundabouts with these places. It was an interesting look, and if Parker hadn't been doing his best ferret impression I would have definitely bought a jumper. Well worth a look.
Until next week!

Can we hear more about how the people around them reacted/behaved/supported/rejected them when the guys came out?
When they came out, there was a lot of mixed reactions, ranging from total surprise to 'wow what a shame' and thinly veiled contmept. Both instances had something to with rumors as well as accidental outing. For John, him coming out as bi surprised a lot of people but then became isolated for a few months. He didn't question himself after talking to his mom about his feelings (and then officially coming out to her later on*). Didn't care that some of his classmates did a 180 on him because, well, they were pretty fairweather to begin with. No skin off of his back. His gf at the time broke up with him after he came out... but surprise! she was a bigot. The teachers had their inklings about him and Brian not being straight, and afterwards, walked on eggshells if that makes sense? Except Ms. Bautista, their Junior and Senior English teacher (and homeroom teacher), she was remarkably chill. Then there's the whole 'oh my god he likes EVERYONE' and some of the guys started to hit on him all of a sudden, and then getting mad at him when he basically said they're not his type. Or the whole still straight if you still like girls/not gay enough/experimenting/just a phase. And when he and Brian became official, hoo boy, John almost fought some people over that (but no one voiced their discent because of what he did to McIntyre 3 years ago, at this point). When John talked to his mom, she listened as he just bared his feelings. She had a feeling herself because he's pretty protective of Brian (but not like, overboard) and how he just lights up when he's around, and how much he's changed since meeting him. He asks her, "When do you know you love someone?" and she sits back. Noelle thinks for a moment. She answers, "You do the small things for them. You want to protect them. You just... look at them and smile, you think about the what ifs and the could bes. You love them in your own way. You don't know what to do without them." So on and so forth. Then he tells his mom, "Then, I love Brian. I mean, I like girls, but I love him. He... he makes me happy." And he tells her the rest. John half came out to his uncle/coach, and really his uncle noticed that John fought significantly harder/more intense when Brian attended his matches. His uncle is gruff and... I'd say fairly macho, so when he asked, "Ya'll datin' or somethin'?" and John's response is uncharacteristicly coy, he just nods and go, "Good. Nice fightin' for something, huh?" and leaves it at that. Brian... was more hesitant in coming out. There were rumors already that he was gay, even though he gave no indication that he was in the first place. He and John were two peas in a pod and at this point, no one's seen him with a girl in ANY capacity. And some girls did show interest in him (of course, he questioned their tastes), but he turned them down gently. "Thank you, but no." And they were the... above average looking girls. One of them remarks, "What are you, gay?" and then without a beat Brian shoots, "Do bears shit in the woods?"The whole class just erupts and it took a solid ten minutes for the teacher to get them under control (and then they try to put two + two together concerning John and they're "OH THAT EXPLAINS IT") and the teacher writes Brian up for being disruptive. So, he gets sent to the office. Assistant principal looks at the note, and then looks at him like "c'mon son, REALLY?" and Brian shrugs. He's not reprimanded for it but, he gets the judgy look, the "you're on thin ice" look. Him, the straight A student, co-captain of the cross country team and a captain of the track and field team, never gets into (much) trouble. All of a sudden, a 180. Brian doesn't think much of it, but he's caused a shit storm. Fine, whatever. Until he thinks -- wait, he's never told John this. He probably didn't need to as he can put 2+2 together ( and he didn't; the confirmation was really more of a 'oh word? when you said you didn't like girls, you meant it' while sipping on a CapriSun pouch) but he hasn't told John's mom, nor he didn't plan on it anyway. But since he was all but living with John, might as well. He was resigned that he may get kicked out. John tried convincing him that his mom's cool. That's when he told him that he was bi. He liked guys too. (He tried using some weird fruit analogy that ended up being confusing as shit and then John was like "yeah, that sounds about right") And he offers to come with him for support in telling her; and she p much reacts the same way when John came out to her -- and then he tells her "I can't tell my aunt. I don't know what she'll do if she finds out."(She found out by someone and she DEMANDED him to come home -- Brian showed Noelle the texts and shit he got from her and that was when it was decided that he'll live with them permanently -- after getting his things from there. I can't link it atm but it is under Brian's tag). After he and John became official, things sort of settled down. More of a "fucking FINALLY, ya'll been making eyes at each other for two years". There was a comment here and there, a few fightin' words but as said before, everyone still remembers what happened back in freshman year. Support grew over time, but it was better than simply being tolerated. Sex Ed was awkward because it was taught from a heterosexual POV (and even then, it was more like abstience. And through this, somehow, Brian found out that he was somewhere on the asexual spectrum because sex was something that never really came up with him -- he was sort of interested but not exactly wanting to actually act, and he bounced between that and having attraction to John only because he knew him, but had a general attraction to guys only. So-- he's gay and ace, or homoromantic a-spec. John loves him all the same).tl;dr -- mixed reactions, only a few that was outright rejection, they were accepted over time, tolerated mostly, supported by a few (in private and public). As they got older, they gave less of a fuck on people's reactions, and super casual about coming out, casually mentioning one another in conversations. "Well, idk, that's date night with my boyfriend" or "Aw sweet, X would love this!" Or if they're out and about, they're casual with their affection. When they moved into the city for school, no one really batted an eye, and maybe a raised eyebrow out in the suburbs.

Introduction!
Hello and welcome! I'm glad that you are here! As this if my first blog post, I'd like to introduce myself. I am 21 years old and I am studying Marketing. I find Marketing a super interesting field because it will always be changing. Especially now with social media and analytics there are so many jobs and things to do. My ultimate dream job would be a Fashion Buyer at Kohl's Department store, what I really mean that I want to get paid to shop all day long. I'm from the suburbs of Milwaukee and real enjoy the city life. I am very close to my family and friends. Some of the earliest memories that I can think of revolved around a mall. Twice a week my mom and Nana would take me shopping. Half the time I might have been sleeping but the other half I remember looking around at the store. I guess you could say this is where my love for shopping began. Now, my friends and I go shopping for the social aspect of it. I find it really fun to try and get the lowest price I can for the item. But that is just one thing that I love to do in my free time.
I enjoy also stay active. I belong to a fitness club at home and I try to go at least 4 times a week. Some of the things that I do include, swimming, biking, running, lifting weights and playing tennis. A lot of my friends also attend the same fitness center so it's fun to also workout with them. Although it is important to stay active, it is equally important to eat healthy. I stick to a pretty strict meal plan during the weeks (I give myself the weekends off to eat/drink whatever I want.) Every Sunday I do a meal prep to prepare for the week because I am usually very busy and don't have time to cook, especially during the school year. Meal prepping can be easy, and I encourage others to do it as well if they are busy during the week. All you have to do is heat up whatever you cooked on Sunday. Every other week I try to eat low carb (paleo) and then every other week I try to just eat healthy. Some of the meals I cook include, chicken, rice and veggies and also, I eat a lot of homemade salads with chicken! Chicken, rice and veggies is my go to as I always have those items on hand but often mix it up with different chicken marinades and spices. Â
In addition, I love to travel. I have been traveling since I was 4 months old. Yes, that might seem weird that my parents took me on a plane so young, but we were visiting my grandpa who had lived in South Florida at the time. I have family all across the country. From, Oakland to The Big Apple. Traveling has always been something that I enjoyed. I've visited 30 states in my lifetime. On my bucket list, I want to visit all 50 states. I usually just travel domestic, but I want to start going to other countries like Italy and Greece. For me it's always so cool to see how different the culture, environment and people are especially within the United States. The love I have for traveling has helped me in creating this blog.
Now that I have introduced myself, let's get into something that people care about! Traveling. I just got back from my trip to Austin, Texas three days ago so I thought I'd share a little bit about it. This was only a four day trip but it sure was fun. I really just needed a relaxer after having my college finals. The flight to Austin was super cheap ($68 round trip!) I will talk about how I got such a cheap flight in my later blogs. I stayed at a super cool resort that was actually in Lakeway, Texas, which is about 30 minutes outside of the city. The area around the resort was very rural. The surrounding areas also were very hilly, which surprised me because I never knew that Texas was full of hills. The resort that I stayed at was absolutely stunning because it overlooked the Colorado River and was nestled in the mountains! Our view was actually of the river which was super beautiful when the sun set at night. They also had 3 different bars (including a swim up bar).
I had briefly been to Austin before (I had drove though it & stopped for lunch at a BBQ place, of course) on my way home from San Antonio, which I would also highly recommend with its very well-known Riverwalk. I didn't realize how big of a city Austin was and it is also the 18th best city to live in. Time for a rundown on some of my favorite things that I did in Austin:
1. Stubb's BBQ! If you like BBQ, then you need to check it out. They have 7 different meats that you can try, and man was it delicious. They cook their meats at a high temp for hours on end, daily. In addition, the reason that I liked this place so much is that they are known for their live music as well. They have a HUGE outdoor amphitheater that is next to the restaurant in which draws a huge crowd in. They have had names in Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and OAR. Overall, I felt like I was in Nashville which was really cool. 2. Top Golf. You can find Top Golf all over the country, but I had never been to one. I am a pretty big fan or playing (even though I suck) and watching golf. What makes Top Golf so fun is that you are play different games like their signature game where your goal is to hit the ball into any target. You can also eat and drink there, so you can make it an all night event. 3. South Congress Bridge Bats. This is a unique experience that I have never done. Between 7pm and 8pm from March to October there are 1.5 million bats that emerge from the Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge. It is something that I have never seen before and I think it is something that everyone should experience before they die. 4. Austin Sightseeing Segway Tour. I have never done a Segway tour before, but this was also something that was super fun and I highly recommend even if it isn't in Austin. Some of the fun things that I got to see on my Segway tour was the Texas State Capitol, Lady Bird Lake, Warehouse Entertainment District and other things along the way.
FINALLYâŠ..
5. SHOPPING! Of course, I didn't come back to Milwaukee empty handed! While walking around downtown and even in Lakeway, there were so many cute like shops and boutiques. But though all the different stores, one thing hold true, their love for the University of Texas! Each store had at least something with the UT logo, many of the items were handmade which was super cool. In addition, my other favorite thing about the shopping as that they had a Marshalls. For those of you that don't know what Marshall's is, you need to check it out! It's very similar to TJ MAXX. It is a discount store where you can get clothing, shoes, home goods and other items for super low prices. This isn't just crappy clothing either, everything is name (designer) brand! I always try to stop at either a Mashall's or TJ MAXX store when I am in a different state or even a different city because the assortment is so different. Something that you find in one store you usually won't find in another, this is something that I find really cool.
Overall, I had a great time in Austin, Texas. It is a fun filled city with a lot of different things to do. Many people think that it is a hick city, but I don't think that is true. Something that really surprised me about the city was how clean it was. There was virtually no trash on the ground. I would highly recommend taking some time it visit this awesome city sometime in your life even if it's just for a couple of days, like I did!
I hope that you enjoyed my first blog, even though it might have been a little boring and dry, but it'll get better, I promise! Stay tuned for my next blog post! I will be highlighting the best travel websites that I use and also how I find the amazing deals (like my $68 round trip flight to Austin!) Some of my ticks and tips might surprise you! But until then, enjoy your week!

Pixey has released her new EP Free To Love in Colour as well as the video for stand out track 'The Mersey Line'. Speaking about the EP, she says: âI wanted a collection of tracks which gave a quick snapshot into me and my brain â where Iâm from, where I want to be and what Iâm thinking about. I hope people can take something meaningful from it or simply have a dance.â Of the new video for âThe Mersey Lineâ, she adds: ââThe Mersey Lineâ video was shot in one day at all my favourite haunts around the city. The song itself is about the walkway line along the River Mersey, so we retraced the steps I used to take as a kid and also when I was starting out as a musician. I would write lyrics to my songs along the same path. I wanted something that sums me up wholly as a person, and Iâd say the video does just that.â [via Dork]

After turning a short TikTok video shot in her car into an empowering body acceptance anthem with over 70 million streams, Vancouver-based pop singer and songwriter JESSIA shares the music video for her breakthrough anthem 'Iâm not Pretty' via Artist Driven Records/Republic Records. Watch the video directed by Benjamin Lussier. In the visual, JESSIA steps through the looking glass to confront her insecurities in a playful and tongue-in-cheek kind of way and falls down a rabbit hole into an imaginary yet cinematic eye-popping peach filled wonderland inspired by Roald Dahlâs âJames and The Giant Peachâ. Â The video illuminates the rising artistâs fun and quirky persona, which is as infectious as the song itself. On shooting the video for 'Iâm not Pretty' JESSIA says, âFilming the music video was such a surreal experience. Â I kept looking around set and asking myself, âare all of these people here for me and my song? What? Am I really here right now? What a time. It was such a party on set! SUCH A BLAST!â

Feminism often focuses on the pressures placed on women in society, but men face their own set of pressures as well, and these are very much connected to the oppression women face. Would we have such high rates of domestic abuse if men werenât taught to express themselves through violence? Would the sexual assault epidemic be what it is if straight men were not taught to view women as conquests? And if men could be free from these constraints, how would the world look different? Stockholm-based pop artist Elin Blom, known by her stage name FELIN, explores questions like these in her latest single 'Dear Boys,' an open letter to men who commit violence and mistreat women. âDear guys/did your parents treat you right?/or did they teach you not to cry?â she sings against deceptively upbeat drums and bass. The song is intentionally poppy with an edge and roughness to it. Written at an all female writing camp in Stockholm, it utilizes an all-female writing and production team. With the single, Blom wanted to send her listeners the message that âit isnât manly to be an asshole and not care about how you treat your children or care about how you treat women,â she says. âIt isnât manly to crack sexist jokes; thatâs just rude behavior. Itâs way more manly and brave to wear a dress no matter what your friends think, or to speak up against abuse or abusive and sexist language.â In the video she looks at the more positive side of the equation, celebrating people who donât confirm to their gender roles with shots of actors exhibiting a variety of gender expressions and styles. In the beginning, she speaks out loud: âMy heroes are those who dare to express who they are, fully, with no holding back. This is about those heroes; this is their moment. It was important for us to find a mix of men in different ages, with different sexualities and backgrounds, to show that itâs okay to wear [whatever] and be whoever you want no matter what you do for work, where you come from, or where you live,â she tells Audiofemme. For a record about the tedium of teenage life in the suburbs, 'Wasteland' is quite the grandiose introduction. The first single released ahead of Alex McArtorâs Welcome to the Wasteland EP introduces the project as both an opus of both catchy electropop and swelling orchestral compositions, all cowering behind the bold, slightly country-twanged voice of the young vocalist. The single arrives today alongside a darkly bizarre visual co-directed by (with Dwyer OâBrien and Ava McArtor) and co-starring (with OâBrien, Ava, and Campbell Barton) the vocalist, with McArtor name-dropping David Lynch as an influence. ââWastelandâ is the opening scene of this sonic film I had in my mind that turned into the Welcome to the Wasteland EP,â she shares. âIt sets up the characters that are present throughout the rest of the EP and the environment in which they live, both spiritually and physically. âWastelandâ represents a person, a place, or a feeling of recognizing a dead end. Itâs like being stuck inside this geodesic dome and feeling controlled or watched by Big Brother and yet knowing that there is something else going on somewhere else.â [via FLOOD]

Back in January, Quilt frontwoman Anna Fox Rochinski announced her solo debut Cherry. The latest cut from Cherry is called 'Everybodyâs Down.' Hereâs what Rochinski had to say about it: â'Everybodyâs Down' is a song thatâs meant to be a little abstract but is generally about feeling run down and bewildered by rampant complicity during catastrophic times. EVERYBODYâS down, including you and me. And yes, also, âdownâ like bummed, if that speaks to you. And yes, also âdownâ as in, just casually down to do something, like, down to go grab food with your homies or whatever. Itâs a triple entendre. We all feel all of these things every day. Itâs a lot. Literally all I can do anymore to stay sane is have a sense of humor and laugh at stuff. I am so much less randomly sentimental than I used to be, but I think itâs because I have learned what really deserves my love and attention. There was a primordial version of this song that I brought in to (album producers) Carlos and Julian, but in the studio, we would visit it at the end of the night after all our serious work was done and throw stuff at the wall to see what would stick. It was like a way to release tension, and we didnât take it very seriously. We made this minimal, weird, scuzzy instrumental with bass, guitar, synth and programmed drums, and I then took this raw creation home and worked out the structure and the melody and lyrics. In the end, I fell in love with this song, much to my surprise." Musically, 'Everybodyâs Down' continues Rochinskiâs exploration into a plastic disco-funk like its predecessors. Itâs accompanied by a video directed by OTIUM. [via Stereogum]

Molly Lewis is a world-renowned whistler from Australia. In recent years she has been based in Los Angeles, where her CafĂ© Molly events have supposedly attracted the likes of Karen O and Mac DeMarco. Now the esteemed indie label Jagjaguwar announced that it has signed Lewis. Her first single for Jagjaguwar, 'Oceanic Feeling,' is out now. Itâs a peculiar song with an even more peculiar video. 'Oceanic Feeling' is a wordless ballad that, between its high lonesome gallop and Lewisâ whistled melody, seems like it could be shoehorned into an old Spaghetti Western. But there are also elements of lounge jazz and exotica in the mix, particularly when Leon Michelsâ saxophone enters halfway through. In the video, Lewis dresses like a medieval maiden(?) and music-adjacent Hollywood star and CafĂ© Molly regular John C. Reilly mimes the sax part while wearing an outfit that recalls the Burger King. I am not sure if any of this could be described as âgood,â exactly, but itâs definitely unique! [via Stereogum]

Mannequin Pussy have announced a new EP, Perfect, their first new material since 2019âs excellent Patience. Last week, the Philadelphia-based band announced that founding guitarist Thanasi Paul had left the band, which means that Mannequin Pussy are forging ahead as a three-piece. Last year, they got together to record five new songs with producer Will Yip, who also produced Patience, that were influenced by our past year of collective isolation. 'Control' is the first song theyâre sharing from the EP, and it starts off slow and methodic, as bandleader Marisa Dabice insists: âIâm in control/ Thatâs what I tell myself/ When all the walls around me close in.â Mannequin Pussyâs songs have often been about trying to enforce some control over uncontrollable emotions and exploding when thatâs just not possible, and sure enough 'Control' bursts apart in its second half, a dizzying but still pretty escalation of guitars and noise. Bloxx have dropped a brand new single, âEverything Iâve Ever Learnedâ. The track is the first new material from the band since last yearâs debut album Lie Out Loud, and is produced by Rich Turvey (Blossoms, Oscar Lang). Speaking about âEverything Iâve Ever Learnedâ, Fee Booth explains: âThe last two years for me have been very difficult, with health scares and anxiety hitting the roof. This song was really important in my journey to stop trying to understand everything, and to just accept the cards youâre dealt and make it work for you. It taught me to keep holding on, even when your grip is loose. The depth of what it means to me as a person is so crazy for just a four minute piece of music. It faces the trials of life, and everything that you wish youâd have been taught before having to face it all brutally, in the real world. Itâs basically a self help song, itâs for everyone that needs to hear it. âYou should learn to hold on, itâs not the end of the worldâ [via Dork]

Before the pandemic hit, beabadoobee was set to tour with Phoebe Bridgers and Dirty Hit labelmates The 1975. While that trek obviously never got on the road, the UK-based songwriter still managed to link up with 1975âs Matty Healy and George Daniel to collaborate on the follow-up to her excellent debut album, Fake It Flowers. beabadoobee is now previewing that effort, cleverly titled Our Extended Play EP, with the new single 'Last Day on Earth'. Fans have long known of the mutual appreciation between bea and Healy, and the pair have been teasing their collaboration for some time. The new single is rather clearly the result of beabadoobeeâs sound meeting The 1975âs. That distinct â90s indie melody that made Fake It Flowers one of 2020âs best albums carries through here, only now the vocal cadences recall some of Healyâs more measured moments. The result is a dreamier, more lighthearted beabadoobee, further closing the gap between the nostalgic styles that originally inspired her and modern indie music. Unsurprisingly, it remains as infectious as anything either artist involved in its creation has ever done. âWith this EP, itâs kind of alluding to the fact that I kind of want to, you know, have a sound that sounds like beabadoobee rather than someone saying it reminds them of something else,â beabadoobee tells Consequence. âI donât think itâs a whole new era just yet⊠I still have blonde hair, the same blonde I had for Fake It Flowers, and every EP I have is almost like who I am right now â right this second. Thatâs everything I write about in this EP. I havenât really changed my look and I always base eras on my look, like, âOh, what color am I going to dye my hair this time?â But Iâm pretty comfortable right now. Iâm pretty chill.â 'Last Day on Earth' comes with a video directed by Arnaud Bresson of Division Paris. The clip finds beabadobee exploring all the things she would have done if sheâd known normalcy would be stripped from us a week in advance. [via Consequence of Sound]

Inspired by NestlĂ© TV adverts, K-Pop music videos and the Oscar-nominated 70s film Five Easy Pieces, Irish pop icon CMAT has shared a new video to accompany her fourth single âI Donât Really Care For Youâ. Adorned in a fabulous snake-skin blazer and skirt combo, the pop starlet performs an impressive and joyful dance routine opposite a mute bearded beauty whoâs Instagram followers are set to double in the next few hours. âThe director EilĂs approached me some time ago to make a music video, and I really wanted it to be for âI Donât Really Care For Youâ because I knew she would be able to capture the high energy mood of the song, and also we are into the same old, niche and ugly design stuff,â CMAT explains. âThe dream sequence was inspired by a Nestle ad from the 1980s. The choreographer, Nick, made my dreams come true. I was like, âI want to dance like Blackpink, but I have absolutely no technical ability whatsoever.â I think that much is evident in the video but we pulled it off!â Full of CMATâs lush, yearning vocals, relatable lyrics and Americana-tinged guitars, âI Donât Really Care For Youâ is a song that sees her swallow her pride and admit to sometimes being âthe bigger dickhead in a relationship.â The witty set of accompanying visuals show CMAT at her finest, exuding a charisma that lights up the screen as she leans into âthe Marian Keyes of it all.â [via Get In Her Ears]

Nordic pop sensation Anna Of The North has shared her new single 'Here's To Another'. The songwriter swoops back into action, crafting a follow up to her Internationally successful 2019 album Dream Girl. A new album will follow later this year, with 'Here's To Another' finding its way online. An all-out Scandi pop banger from one of the best in the game, the single is a finely sculpted slice of electronic melody. 'Here's To Another' twists and contorts, before its final head-long release results in a glorious chorus. [via Clash]

American songwriter Natalie Bergman has shared new song 'Home At Last'. The new single dips into her country and Americana roots, while adding some soothing gospel elements. There's some sumptuous harmonies sitting around her voice, a soft pillow for Natalie Bergman to relax into. The beautiful video is online now, shot in an abandoned chapel, one that brings out new meaning to her lyrics: âAnswer my prayer, when a great man falls and the skies collapse, whereâs the joy in this world, is he home at last?â Natalie explains... âI have always written songs about âhome.â A place that is not on this earth. It brings me a great deal of comfort knowing that place is waiting for me - especially when life can be so alienating and lonely... In the video for âHome At Lastâ I found a small chapel in Los Angeles and the moment I saw the stained-glass... I felt like it belonged to me. One of the best things about making music is sharing it with the people you love. Playing it with your friends and family. I invited my favorite artists to be a part of this performance and I asked them to think about what heaven might look like to them.â [via Clash]

UK band Crawlers may only have three other singles but theyâre definitely not your standard alternative indie underdog. The group of four secured air time on BBC radio and were featured in two Spotify editorial pages. Their new single 'Statues' came out on the nineteenth. It only proves this bands remarkable character. The vocals corrosively discharge acerbic phrases, âYou make me so calm, let the statues fallâ. Holly Minto invites you to participate in tormented ambiance. The guitar slays the entire track, no thanks to Amy Woodall, jolting the listener out of an ignorant slumber. The guitar makes for a perfect incumbent of the perforating bass put down by Liv Kettle. Now the drumline is a total antithesis, very classic rock/n/roll. Harry Breen takes on the persona of a grounding buddha by producing a converse rhythm. Itâs like he is having this eloquent conversation with the rest of the instrumentals. [via Sounds Good]

Nashville-based songwriter Madi Diaz releases her new single/video, 'New Person, Old Place.' Madi recently marked a full restart of her career with the evocative 'Man In Me,' a first offering showing how sheâs capable of distilling profound feelings with ease. While 'Man In Me' took Madi through her first steps of a really hard time, 'New Person, Old Place' presents her further down the road, after processing the pain and loss of a breakup. She uses specific diction to describe feelings that are typically hard to verbalize: âI used to stay up on the off chance that you might call me back /  I used to go shopping for pain go through pictures itâs all I had / Iâd sift through our memories and live there even when I wasnât sad /  I used to, I used to, but now I donât that.â Madi elaborates: âThis was a moment I realized I wanted to start to learn how to do it not better, not worse, but just different⊠and then something shifted. Something in my heart finally knocked loose and I was breathing deeper. Itâs hard as hell, breaking patterns and unlearning all the old shit, trying to shut all the doors that I used to open to let all the same hurt happen over and over. Iâm at least learning to find new doors. âNew Person Old Placeâ is a mantra. A line that Iâm casting into the future so that I have something to guide me forward. Itâs something of a reminder that if my heart is the house that I carry with me wherever I go, I can take it somewhere new, or I can do the same old thing I always do but backwards or with a cartwheel, and I can repaint and I can rearrange the furniture. I can clean the mirrors so I see myself true and clear.â The 'New Person, Old Place' video was directed by $ECK and shot in Madiâs pickup truck throughout Nashville. The video follows Madi on a journey to the salvage yard, driving different versions of herself there to face her history.

Following the release of her viral rock cover of Miley Cyrus's 'Midnight Sky', which garnered over 341.5K views, Izzy T is unveiling her explosive new single 'Nuclear.' Featuring UK rap artist Ben Hunter, the almighty alt-rock-pop fireball of energy combines electric, raucous sass in a mix of fearsome beats and muffled, gritty guitar. Screaming enough is enough, the mantra of this song sits on a tidal wave of frustration, narrating the darkside of a relationship and how people can become the furthest thing from who they really are. Izzy shares, âThis song has really paved the way for my new sound as an artist. I love big crunchy guitars and stompy beats, and the freedom to go from low and creepy, to high as the clouds with my voice!â With an underlying theme of empowerment in dark times, Izzy provides a voice that we can cling on to, emphasizing that we can do whatever we put our minds to.

Itâs Just a Fantasy...
As Billy Joel sang, â...itâs not the real thing. Sometimes a fantasy is all you need!â
Jersey got in touch again today. It was 5 years ago last week that I left the job where we met. He managed the factory, I worked in the office. On the surface, he was just this hot Italian guy in jeans and flannel shirts who made me feel like a silly schoolgirl with a crush whenever I saw him walk by. I had no idea at the time, but there was so much more to him.
On my last day of work he stopped by my desk and handed me his card. He seemed to stammer, âUm, if you need a reference or somethingâ His cell number was hand-written on the back. I remember holding onto that card until it was soft from my sweaty palms... I felt like I had to hide it, even though MM and I were non-monogamous. I felt like I had to hide the goofy grin that kept coming up... the embarrassing blush... and I finally got the nerve up to write my number down to give him. It took me another few minutes to work up the courage to try to bring it to him in his office. I honestly donât remember if I actually gave it to him before I left. I think I did, but he later said that he lost it so he was glad I messaged him.
Somehow we started chatting shortly after. My memory is awful... Iâm remembering an awkward kiss goodbye in the parking lot of the Mill that had the bar/restaurant Iâd go on dates at. He seemed afraid to actually kiss me properly... because he is married.Â
At the time, he was living in MD and his wife and son were back in New Jersey. Apparently he had lived apart from them quite a bit over the years. I was really trying to behave myself and keep my non-monogamy ethical. MM and I actually had more than one tense conversation about him because he was a cheater.Â
I moved to AZ and he continued to just pop up from time to time like people tend to do with me. The more we chatted, the more enamored I became. Mr. Hot Italian in Flannel is a volunteer firefighter, an artist... a painter, and a DJ. He would play rooftop parties in NYC and things like that. Big deal parties with big paychecks.Â
He talked about being hit on by one of my favorite artists, Keith Haring, when he hung out at the Paradise Garage or âGay-rageâ as it was called. We talked about his love of Jean-Michel Basquiat and the art he wanted to make.Â
Our conversations always woke up this part of me that just wanted to be more, create more, live more.Â
Last time he surfaced, he was talking about whether to move out of the suburbs and to a beach town or back to the city. Heâs never outright said that heâs not happy at home, but all he has ever talked about is running away from it. His son was the only part of his âreal lifeâ that he ever talked about, and heâs in college now.Â
From time to time, heâd talk about meeting up in Vegas for a weekend or him coming to Arizona because heâs never been here. Today when we were chatting we talked about Sedona. He sent me a link to a beautiful resort where he said a friend of his stayed. We talked about driving into Mexico together, just because Iâve been here almost 5 years and havenât crossed the border. I told him about Bisbee... an old mining town thatâs a crazy mix of hippies and real life ranchers where ghost hunter shows like to come.Â
He said, âWho knows, if I come out there I may never leave... sounds enticing.â And he asked if thereâs a volunteer fire department in my town. He even followed up on that saying that his certs are âpro boardâ so they will transfer from state to state. Itâs just a fantasy... oh, oh, oh, oh... (Billy Joel again) But what a fantasy it is!Â
I wish I knew what it is about Jersey. We literally had 2 dates-ish. We worked at the same address, but barely spoke beyond the pleasantries and work-stuff during the staff lunches in the conference room. I only learned that he was married and that sheâs Puerto Rican with the stereotypical hot latin temper when he brought something to work that sheâd cooked.Â
Whatever it is, itâs mutual. Today he said, âYou have always been fuel for my soul... canât explain it... the paths we have taken are different but the emotion is parallel. If that makes any sense.â And it totally does in that I feel it, but it makes no sense whatsoever.Â
Thatâs a thing with me that Iâve never been able to find the root of. When someone clicks, they just click. There is no halfway with my feelings.Â
The Mad Scientist is a prime example of that. We only dated as a triad of sorts with MM for a few months, then the two of us for a few more weeks or so. During those times, we didnât see each other often and I really knew very little about his day to day life. I only went to his house once the entire time. He had a pot-bellied pig named Hibiscus Tea aka âHibbyâ at the time, and I saw a massage table set up in a half-room of sorts off the foyer and felt jealous for no good reason. And I was so in love with him.Â
I know the thing that happened with him... he looked me in the eyes and called me by my name in bed. It was a kind of intimacy Iâd never experienced, and have only had with one other partner since, Nomad. Just talking about it makes my heart flutter.Â
Part of me wants to reach out to him... to see if heâs happy and make sure he knows I still think of him often... and it makes smile. But I know better. What if heâs not happy? Or what if he is, but hearing from me brings stuff up for him? Or the ultimate what if thatâs always been in the back of my mind... what if he meant more to me than I meant to him? Ugh.
Whatever the case, fantasy is all Iâve got right now. Thatâs something else that Jersey and I talked about.... the virus. Heâs been helping EMTâs and fire duty has been busy because of people setting fires in their kitchen more often. Heâs been quarantined other than fire duty for a week now and said that âpeople are dying left and rightâ out there.Â
The fantasy now is once this virus thing is over and we can get back to normal life...Once they find a vaccine and itâs safe to travel again...
But part of me feels like there will never be normal life like it once was. Between the economic crash, the hoarding, the lack of concrete information because of limited testing, all of the unknown and the panic itâs induced...Â
Even if the country... the world... finally goes back to being âopen for businessâ as the commander-in-tweet kept talking about, it wonât be the same. Lots of people are saying that itâs for the best that it wonât be the same. That we have the chance to build something better. But that kind of rebuilding, no matter what it ends up looking like, takes a long time.Â
Iâm afraid this will become my normal... that I wonât ever get out there and date again. Iâm afraid that Iâm a couple cats away from being that sad, old cat lady everyone looks at and wonders... what happened to her? Only nobody could look at me because Iâm such a reclusive hermit that seeing me outside my apartment is limited to when I check my mail and the days I tote my laundry to Cookieâs and try to feel some sense of family and belonging again.Â
Fuck that got morbid.Â
Time for me to attempt sleep... and look for a pair of pantyhose. Iâm allowing Faust to Dom me without being my Dom. Itâs a weird balancing act, but having some accountability and direction feels good. Iâll roll with it.Â
