c/w: stalker!rafe being creepy & stealing naive!reader's underwear, suggestive texts from an unknown number & a stranger walking her home
wc: 2.3k
he’s been on my mind lately…happy kinktober xx
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
The feeling of impending doom has been crawling up her bones for several weeks now. At first, she thought it was merely her imagination playing tricks on her; having watched one too many horror films with her friends.
However, as the days went on and the feeling of unease continued, she began to feel paranoid.
She kept feeling like someone was watching her; lurking in the shadowy corners of her house and following her every movement with a morbid gaze glued to her form whether she was out with friends or merely cleaning her living room.
She didn’t like it, didn’t know when it exactly began but she wanted nothing more than for the peculiar feeling to disappear.
She’d be changing her clothes in order to get ready for bed when suddenly a shiver would tingle along her spine and make her snap her head towards her window; trying to desperately catch some creep ogling her, so she'd finally have some sort of an explanation. Instead, she’d be met with nothing more than the leafy trees of her gloomy backyard before she’d quickly draw the curtains closed.
In addition, lately she’d been having nightmares more often than usual; waking up in the middle of the night panting with her heart thudding in her ribcage and sometimes she could swear she felt the eyes of a stranger still lingering on her sweaty skin.
Then one night, when she’s rinsing her mouth after brushing her teeth, her phone lights up with a notification.
unknown number
why are your bedroom curtains never open anymore?
look so pretty in your underwear…
4 attachments
The device clatters against the bathroom tiles when it slips from her hold as her eyes scan over the multiple pictures of her half naked; all taken through the glass of the large window in her room. A window she's lately been making sure is covered at all times.
She plucks it from the floor with trembling fingers and reads over the messages once more; heart rapidly thudding in her ribcage making it hard for her to think as her fingertips glide across the screen to type out a response.
you
who is this?
im gonna call the cops
unknown number
do I scare you?
And instead of responding, she blocks the number. However, when the police arrive and search her house and her backyard, they find nothing. They merely tell her that it’s ’probably nothing serious, just some kid pulling a prank on you’ with an apologetic smile before leaving.
A couple of days go by and she’s beginning to believe that maybe it was truly someone playing tricks on her when all of a sudden, her phone vibrates with an incoming call from another unknown number as she’s boiling pasta for dinner.
This time, she decides to simply ignore it; choosing to believe it’s someone calling the wrong number for her own peace of mind. However, that’s long forgotten when a new message illuminates the screen and her breath gets caught in her windpipe as she scans it over.
unknown number
breaking my heart here princess :(
you
leave me alone
unknown number
but that’s no fun, is it?
you
what do u want from me?
unknown number
want you to keep your curtains open more often
you
so u can take more pictures of me?
unknown number
can just watch if that’s what you prefer?
you
leave me alone
please
She repeats before turning off her phone for the rest of the night.
She thinks he’s actually listened because no unknown numbers try to contact her for some time, causing her to turn less anxious by each silent day that rolls around. However, when she begins to notice that pairs of her underwear keep disappearing, her mind wanders over to the only person who could be behind it.
At first, she doesn’t think too much of the fact that she can’t seem to find her favorite panties anywhere, assuming she’s merely misplaced them. However, when a white lacy pair she saves for special occasions vanishes from her drawer she grows restless. If she hasn’t worn it in months, it should be where she left it, right?
The air suddenly feels like sand; poking at her lungs as if it’s filled with tiny rocks when she becomes aware of the fact that in order for him to steal her stuff he’s had to break into her home. Therefore, he’s been in her bedroom before and probably her kitchen, living room and bathroom as well. And the first time could’ve easily been weeks ago.
Nausea steeped in dread grovels up her insides and sits heavy in her stomach at the realization that he could be in here right now.
If he wanted to hurt her, then he would’ve done it by now. Or at least that’s what she keeps telling herself in order to offer some form of solace for her troubled thoughts.

The following night she’s wiping her eyes clean of mascara by the sink when a text pops up.
psycho stalker
someone came home late
have fun on your date?
Chills erupt on her skin as she peers down at the screen. After the all too tedious date she’s just had, she’s entirely too exhausted with his arduous mind games on top of it all; wants to bury herself under her covers and close her eyes for an eternity.
However, she’s not entirely convinced he won’t come up with another way to disturb her if she stops responding altogether as another message pops up.
psycho stalker
assuming not too much fun since you didn’t bring him home..
you
none of your business
psycho stalker
was he boring?
talked about himself the whole time and didn’t ask a single question about you?
She blinks a few times because he’s not exactly wrong. How on earth did he—
you
what the fuck is wrong with you
you’re following me now??
She tries to remember whether she saw anyone suspicious at the restaurant but she can’t recall anything out of the ordinary catching her attention. However, she wasn’t aware she was supposed to keep her eyes open for her possible stalker, which is why her brain isn’t being very helpful at the moment.
psycho stalker

She tries to even out her respiration because she does not want to find out whether he’s merely toying with her or if he’s actually being serious.

sweet dreams princess
At that, she finally locks her phone; wishing she’ll actually be granted some well needed rest tonight.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
One night she’s walking home from the grocery store, mind occupied with the prospect of digging into the tub of strawberry ice cream in her bag as she’s messaging her friend who’s enthusiastically telling her the details of the kiss she shared with a girl she’d had a crush on for ages.
Then completely out of the blue, she bumps into someone’s sturdy chest.
“Oh, I’m so sorry,” she's quick to apologize before she looks up and is met with blue sapphires that twinkle even under the dim street lamps.
They’re slightly covered by the guy’s chocolate hair falling into his face, resulting in him raking a hand through the strands as his brows raise, almost like he's surprised. However, that wouldn't really make any sense since she's never seen him before, she figures.
“S’all good. Wasn’t really looking either,” he rasps out as his intense gaze bores into her, almost as if he’s studying her; examining her every reaction.
“No, it was really my fault. Shouldn’t be texting and walking at the same time,” she forces out a laugh and tries to step away from him and continue on with her journey. However, he halts her movements when he speaks up again.
“Shouldn’t be walking alone this late either, you know. All kinds of creeps out here just waiting for the opportunity to attack pretty girls like you,” he reminds her with a strange tinge to his voice that causes the hairs on her arms to stand.
She’s unable to pinpoint what it is exactly. She thinks his features are otherwise quite appealing but there’s something almost disturbing about his aura.
“I know, but it’s really just a ten-minute walk. I’ll be fine,” she offers him a tight smile, timidly fiddling with the strap of her shopping bag.
“Why don’t I walk you home, yeah?” His offer comes out as something ominous rather than concern over her safety and the stillness of the darkened October sky surrounding them suddenly makes unease litter across her skin.
“No, I think I’m okay. Thank you, though,” she politely declines and tries to tiptoe away from his intimidating presence, albeit uselessly.
“It’s past midnight already, let me walk you,” he nearly insists; seemingly not accepting no for an answer as his tone resembles more of a demand now.
“O— okay, um…sure,” she swallows around the words and watches how the corners of his mouth tug up. What has she gotten herself into? For all she knows, this man could be a serial killer and she's just signed up her faith as his next victim.
The murky sidewalk is quiet as they tread along it and she keeps glancing towards him every now and then; reassuring herself that a sharp knife or a gun hasn't magically appeared in his hand.
Although, she thinks he wouldn't need a weapon to drag her helpless form into the woods with his much stronger arms. Under the obscurity provided by the old trees, he could easily strangle her until her soul would wither away from her lifeless eyes; getting his fix from leaving her limp body on the muddy moss as death kisses her cold, tear-streaked cheeks.
“Something on your mind?” His sudden question makes her jump.
“N— no, nothing. I just— have we met before?” She hesitantly asks, turning to look at him and noticing his gaze already resting on her face.
“Pretty sure I’d remember if we had,” his indistinct response is calm, too calm for her liking.
“It's just that, um, it's a small neighborhood and I've never seen you around?” She flits her eyes over to him, trying to figure him out.
“I don't live here,” his tongue peeks out to wet his bottom lip; the ambiguity of his answer not soothing her racing brain in the slightest.
“Oh, okay...cool,” she peeps out; trying to appear as nonchalant as ever, even if her breathing has turned fragmented and her head is spinning.
A gruesome smirk morphs his mouth at her obvious nervousness and for some reason, he appears to be enjoying this; finding crooked entertainment in her dismay.
He halts in front of her home before she’s even digested that they’ve already arrived at her destination.
“How did you— how did you know this was my house?” She tentatively wonders.
“Lucky guess,” he merely shrugs with a smile that's nowhere near uplifting.
She blinks.
“Right, well, thanks for walking me...I’m gonna go now,” she squeaks out and takes a step towards the front yard.
“Sweet dreams, Princess,” he murmurs and her entire form tenses in response to the familiarity of the nickname.
“What did you just say?” Something dire bubbles up in her throat at the bizarre sense of deja vu.
“Just wished you a good night? You feeling alright?” He furrows his brows in what should appear as concern for her wellbeing but she notices something twisted glinting in his overly worried eyes; almost like some sort of sick satisfaction.
“I’m— I’m fine. Just…tired, I guess,” she manages out as a crease forms between her brows and her breathing grows labored when his mouth curls into an almost sinister smirk.
“You sure?”
She flinches when he sets a heavy hand on her arm and he's suddenly all too close for comfort.
“Y— yes,” she tries to pull away. However, she unfortunately stumbles on her wobbly feet, nearly tumbling down on the harsh grass if not for his firm arms holding her upright by a grip on her waist.
“Careful now, don't wanna hurt yourself, do you?” He scolds her with a click of his tongue; steadying her with an intrigued narrow of blue gemstones.
“Sorry,” a breathy apology escapes past her lips as her eyes flicker down to where his touch is burning her skin, even through the thick material of her sweater.
“Run along then, yeah?” He murmurs as he lets go of her along with a small push towards the right direction.
Then she’s scurrying over to her doorstep, feeling his eerie stare following her; trepidation clogging her lungs as she decides against glancing towards him once more, closing her front door and making sure it’s locked, twice.

Chapter 4
Ice-cream went down a treat and the boys were loving every minute spent in each others presence. We were currently sitting in the window booth at the dessert parlour, my second coffee now clutched between my palms as both Levi and I listened to Dean intently. He was telling us some crazy story from his travels, and I couldn't help but smile as Levi hung off every word, urging Dean to become more animated in his narration. The crisp ring of a phone suddenly cut through the air between us and it took Dean a moment to realise it was his. After retrieving it from his jacket pocket, his eyes widened when he saw the caller ID. He mouthed ‘sorry’ to both of us as he answered the phone.
“Sammy!” he exclaimed before chewing his lip. He turned away and toward the window slightly so he didn't speak over us. Whilst Dean was preoccupied, I took the time to turn to Levi, warmth blooming across my chest at the smile that hadn't left his face.
“Hey there trouble, how are you doing?” I reached over to place my hand over his, tracing my thumb over his knuckles.
“This is the best day ever!” he said,  his voice practically bouncing with joy and excitement as he glanced at his Dean, still on the phone. “Mom, I have a dad!”
I laughed softly, giving his hand a final squeeze before letting go.
“Yes you do!”
“And he’s cool!”
I laughed again. “Very cool!”
We chatted for a few minutes whilst Dean wrapped up his conversation with his brother - Levi trying desperately to contain his enthusiasm every time his dad was mentioned. It didn’t take long for Dean to hang up the phone and turn back to face us, giving Levis’ hair a ruffle as he looked down at him.
“Hey kiddo, that was your uncle Sammy on the phone,” he shifted his gaze to mine for a moment before turning back to his son, “I’ve sorta left him hanging all afternoon, so I’m going to need to spend a few hours with him, ok?” Levi pouted, which triggered Deans’ expression to soften. He looked back at me with almost pleading eyes. “If it’s ok with your mom, I could come around later? Bring a movie and popcorn?”
Dean had barely finished speaking when Levi beamed at me and I laughed at his electric excitement. If he smiled any wider I feared he’d actually hurt himself.
“Of course, that’s fine with me.”
The boys high-fived before I gave Dean a light hearted warning look.
“But the film has to be age appropriate. Absolutely no slasher films.”
Dean held his hands up in mock defence.
“I wouldn’t dream of it,” he said with a slight smirk on his lips
With that, he said his goodbyes with a pat on Levis’ shoulder and the squeeze of my hand before slipping out of the booth and out of the parlour.

Deans POV
“You have a son?!”
Sam looked just as shocked as I had felt less than twelve hours ago, his eyes wide and mouth agape.
“Yeah,” I grinned at him, “crazy, huh?”
Sam opened and closed his mouth a few times, almost getting words out before changing his mind at the last minute in favour of a different sentence.
“Dean… You’re a dad,” he smiled in disbelief, looking over at me.
“Yeah,” I said again, feeling that goofy-ass grin reappear on my face, “it’s awesome. He’s awesome. I can’t wait for you to meet him, Sammy. He's so fucking cool.”
“I bet he is.”
We sat in a comfortable silence for a moment, my mind creating and then recreating hundreds of new scenarios I’d never thought I’d ever imagine. That I never thought I’d even get the chance to experience. I’m a hunter. I live a wild, dangerous, unpredictable life. But I have a son. A reason to live; to take care and caution for.
“Hey Dean…” Sams’ soft voice derailed my train of thought.
“Hmm?”
“How do you know (Y/n) is telling the truth? That this kid is definitely yours, and she’s not just messing with your head? I don’t mean to sound horrible Dean, but your taste in women can be-”
“(Y/n) can be trusted,” I cut him off, his words souring my mood slightly. I know he’s only looking out for me, but he’s always the first to question when something seems too good to be true. “You sure?”
“Yeah…” I held his gaze for a few seconds before sighing, deciding to explain further when his stare didn't let up. “We were together for almost a year. She was different. She never judged, or got angry when I was a mess after a hunt. She knows what I - what we - do for a living, and she never freaked out over it, or tried to break things off. She would just say, ‘ok, just stay safe out there’, and carry on,” I paused, the memories of our time together replaying in my mind like an old movie. I could see Sam nodding at my words, listening. So I continued. “(Y/n) had just turned eighteen when we met. I took her to prom,” I smiled at the memory, remembering the tremble in my hands as I’d driven to her parents house to pick her up. I’d never felt so nervous around a girl before, desperately trying to get a grip on my nerves the whole drive there.
“Prom?” Sam smirked, a twinkle in his eye, “You took her to prom?”
“Yeah, I did.”
“How have I never heard about this? Did dad know?”
I chewed my bottom lip, feeling the embarrassment heat my skin a little.
“Yeah, dad knew. He never met her, but he still teased me for weeks. You never knew because I never brought her ‘round, and you were determined to get into Stanford. I stayed away a lot back then, trying to work some cases on my own, to get some more experience. But… (Y/n) turned out to be a huge distraction,” we both laughed, the sound light and easy as it filled the car. I reached into my jacket and pulled out my wallet, flicking through the various cards and slips of paper until I pulled out an old, folded photograph. I passed it to Sam and he eyed it before taking it carefully and unfolded it, smoothing out the creases before studying the image. The slight furrow between his brows quickly disappeared as he looked down, a small smile tugging at his lips.
“Well I’ll be damned, you really did go to prom.”
He looked it over for a few more moments, taking in every detail before passing it back to me. It had been a while since I’d looked at the image, finding it hard in the past to look at (Y/n)s face and remember that I’d left her behind. But now… now I could stare at this photo all day and feel nothing but warmth. I looked down at the decade old picture, seeing the candid moment captured in time. She had her arms draped over my shoulders, her face in a contented smile as I leant in for a kiss. Her lipstick was slightly smudged and my jacket was nowhere to be seen - small signs of a night enjoyed. I remember her friend snapping the picture before running off with a giggle, passing the developed image to (Y/n) a few weeks later. It was only a few days after that I told her I was leaving, and she’d gifted it to me with a sad smile and lingering kiss. I never normally found goodbyes difficult as they were part of the job. I'd gotten used to them. But saying goodbye to her had been one of the hardest things I'd ever had to do. The promise of staying in touch didn't last as long as we’d both hoped - dad somehow commondering my phone and returning it to factory settings without telling me. I guess it was around that time she found out she was pregnant.
The wince struck my face like a bolt of lightning, guilt and regret hitting like ice in my chest. The years she'd spent raising our kid on her own, working at the local garage in between school runs, Motocross trips and simple survival - it had me feeling nauseous. I should have been there. I've missed so much of Levi's life - of a life I could've had with (Y/n), as a family. My family. I mean fuck, I missed the birth of my son - I never got to hold him as a baby. I made him wait eight years for a hug. I made (Y/n) wait even longer, leaving her with the weight of the world on her shoulders.
Crossing my arms over the steering wheel, I buried my head between them, praying that the tight knot in the pit of my stomach would disappear.
“You ok man?” Sam asked, twisting further in his seat to face me, the well-maintained leather creaking under his weight. I raised my head.
“Yeah… and no. I feel so, so good, like I'm on top of the fucking world, but…”
“But?”
“Do you think she hates me? Resents me? For falling off the face of the earth and making her do all of this alone?”
Sam smiled, a small laugh on his breath as he leant back against the passenger side door.
“Are you serious?”
I shot him an incredulous look.
“Dude…” he started, “(Y/n) doesn't hate you. She will obviously have feelings on the matter, but I think what she's feeling right now is relief, knowing that you're here now.”
I took a deep breath.
“Do you really think so?”
“Dean, I don't think things would have gone as smoothly as you described if she held any animosity towards you. She let you take Levi for ice-cream straight after meeting him. I think that's a good sign.”
I smiled, remembering my afternoon.
“Yeah, she's letting me go over to theirs tonight for a movie.”
“I don't think she'd be letting you into her house if she hated you. I mean, in the thirty seconds I'd met her earlier, she was all kind smiles and soft edges. Definitely not giving off ‘mean vibes’. Plus…” Sam smirked slightly, drumming his fingers on the back of the seat.
“Plus?” I raised an eyebrow, turning towards him.
“There's a chance she feels the same way you feel about her. That hug you shared said a lot.”
I scoffed slightly, finding his words ludicrous.
“What's that supposed to mean?”
“Dude, you've kept her picture in your wallet for nearly a decade. She was the only long relationship that I've ever known you to have, and you're worried if she hates you.”
“And?”
“When have you ever given a shit about anyone's opinion but mine and dad's?”
His words stopped my racing mind in its tracks, making me think for a moment. My heart suddenly picked up speed, finding it hard to ignore the truth in Sam's words.
“I mean, we were great back then, but she's a totally different person now. She had to grow up fast - there's no way she's gonna put up with my shit now,” I gnawed on my bottom lip, turning to look out of the front windscreen at all of the other parked cars. “I mean, what about hunting? We have jobs to do, I can't just bail on people - bail on you. (Y/n) Doesn't need that sort of chaos in her life, not now that she's got Levi. And I won't bring the hunters life anywhere near him. Fuck, Sammy, what am I going to do? I can't stick around, but I can't leave. FUCK.”
“Dean.”
“Why does this have to be so complicated?”
“Dean.”
“I'm going to end up ruining their lives and-”
“DEAN.”
“What?!”
“Just shut up. Do you hear yourself? You're overthinking shit that doesn't matter right now.”
His abrupt words ceased the hurricane in my brain, slowing both my thoughts and my rapid pulse. I even released the steering wheel from my white-knuckled grip. I replied to him, my voice slower and less panicked.
“But it's important, I need to figure it out.”
“It is. And you can - with (Y/n). You don't have to figure all of this out by yourself, Dean. You can make those decisions together. You guys are a team now, so you can't go off and decide these things on your own.”
I found myself nodding slowly, letting his words sink in. Taking a deep breath I leant back in my seat and ran my hands through my hair before dragging them over my face. I thought for a moment; calmer, quieter thoughts this time as I mulled over what Sam had said. He was right. I needed to talk to (Y/n) before making any decisions. Any stupid decisions that I know she would prevent me from making - like she used to. I huffed out a long held breath, twisting in my seat to face my younger - wiser - brother.
“Yeah, you're right. Look, I'm sorry for freakin’ out, I don't mean to… it's just- this is crazy. I mean Sam, I have a kid. ME. Of all people.”
Sam's eyes softened, his puppy-dog glimmer returning with a small smile.
“It's so crazy. I mean I never thought I'd get to be an uncle! But Dean… this is something good. All the shit we've seen, that we've dealt with and put up with - you especially - you deserve this. Embrace the shit out of this.”
I returned his smile in kind, a warm, fuzzy feeling I wasn't used to filling every fibre in my body.
“Yeah, I will.”
Tumblr media
(Y/n)’s POV
Evening was drawing in, the sun starting to set as it neared 6:30 pm. Levi was busy tidying his room as I cleaned the kitchen, the small room bathed in a pink and orange glow. The sunset was calming as night slowly crept closer, the feeling of fall crisp in the air as the sun started to lower in the sky. As I dried the final dish from dinner and returned it to the cupboard I heard a rap at the door. I'd barely acknowledged it when Levi's footsteps came thundering down the stairs.
“Dad's here!” his giddy exclamation bouncing off the walls and bringing a smile to my lips.
“Well, go and let him in then!”
He practically leapt over to the door and unlocked it, swinging it open just as I stepped around the corner. There Dean stood with a happy smile and clean shirt, leaning lazily on the doorframe. His eyes lit up as soon as he spotted Levi.
“Hey there kiddo!” Dean ruffled his sons hair.
“Hey dad! What movie are we watching?”
Dean laughed.
“Why don't you let me come in first, huh? I need to say ‘hi’ to your mom.”
At the mention of me his eyes flicked up to meet mine, the sudden connection catching me off guard as his grin twitched upwards slightly.
Levi stepped back and let Dean in. It was a very rare occurrence for us to have a man in the house, and I couldn't stop the small flutter in my chest at the sight of Dean standing in my small living room. He dominated the space, his rugged exterior a little out of place in our domestic setting. Levi shuffled off to sit on the couch whilst Dean took a few slow steps over to me, his long legs swallowing the distance.
“Hey,” his voice was low and soft, his smile not leaving his lips.
“Hey,” I smiled back, pulling my soft cardigan around me. I took a step back into the kitchen, Dean following suit. “Coffee?”
“Coffee sounds great,” the grocery bag he'd been carrying was placed on the kitchen counter as I filled the coffee machine with water. Watching out of the corner of my eye, Dean observed his surroundings, looking at where we lived - where his son grew up.
“Nice house,” the low softness of his voice was still present.
“Thanks - I'll give you the grand tour later if you like?” I turned the machine on and spun to face him, and I watched as he leant comfortably against the counter with his arms crossed over his chest.
“Yeah,” he said, “I'd like that.”
There was a pause in the conversation as we took a moment to look at each other. Really look, as it felt like the whirlwind afternoon we’d had took away our ability to really see each other. I'd been aware of his unchanging fashion and his handsome face, yet I'd forgotten about the soft sun-kissed freckles that dotted his nose, now fading as fall dawned and the sun weakened. I let myself reminisce over those forest-green eyes, how the swirls of jade and golden hazel had entranced me all those years ago. Given the chance, they'd succeed again. His hair was the same soft brown, memories of combing my fingers through those short strands as he slept quickly resurfacing. And those lips. I daren't look at them for the fear of staring too long and getting caught, yet the thought of that plushness against my own mouth had my own lips tingling. I tried my best to hold his gaze and when my eyes slipped to his mouth for a split second, I knew he'd seen it.
He reached out and took my hand, his rough palms gliding gently over my soft skin and squeezing gently.
“I know I said it earlier, but it's really good to see you, (Y/n).” Deans voice stayed low, but it harboured a gravelly undertone that told me that maybe, just maybe he wanted to say something else - something more. When he didn't, I squeezed his hand back, fighting the instinct to lace my fingers with his like I used to. Like when we used to lay under the stars in the field behind my parents house and talk for hours about everything and nothing all at once. Like when he'd lay me down in the backseat of his car and make love to me in the ethereal glow of the moonlight.
“You too Dean,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. With a final smile I released his hand, my own instantly feeling cold. The bubble of warmth and familiarity surrounding us slowly dissolved, Dean eventually clearing his throat and standing up straight. He looked at me again, this time without the nostalgia in his eyes.
“Hey uh… I don't suppose you'd be ok with Sammy coming by? It's just he really wants to meet Levi and I feel bad for ditching him earlier for hours. Plus he-”
“Dean it's more than ok,” I chuckled at his pleading and his desperation for justification. “Sam is more than welcome to join us tonight.”
A tension that I hadn't noticed before was quickly released from his shoulders.
“Are you really sure? I feel like-”
“Dean?”
“Yeah?”
“Be quiet. I would love for Sam to meet Levi.”
He grinned a little at my quiet assertiveness, looking down at his boots.
“Ok, well thanks again though sweetheart. He would've suffered a fun packed night of research and cheap beer in the motel room otherwise,” his teeth flashed with his humorous grin. I returned it before a thought crossed my mind, my eyebrows knitting together.
“Wait, are you guys staying in that seedy motel across town? The one where the janitor looks like a serial killer?”
“Yeah, to be honest it's not the worst place we've stayed in. The Dahmer look-alike creeps me the hell out though.”
I pondered for a moment, taking a lot less time than I should've before opening my mouth.
“Do you… do you guys want to stay here? I mean I have a couch and a spare camp bed. It's not much but at least you won't get murdered in your sleep. Plus I have unlimited coffee and bacon for breakfast.”
I almost cringed as the words left my mouth, kicking myself for practically trying to convince him to stay. Dean looked a little stunned at the proposal, taking slightly longer than I would've hoped to make a decision. I could've smacked myself. “I'm sorry, that's probably the last thing you want, being surrounded by boring domestic life when you have a job to do. Don't worry about it, forget I said any-”
“That would be nice.”
“Wait, what?”
“It would be nice to stay here. With both of you. I'd like that.”
The relief exited my body in a poorly concealed exhale.
“Do you need to run it past Sam first?”
He shook his head.
“Nah, to be honest I think Dahmer 2.0 freaked him out the most, he'll be happy to get away.”
Tumblr media
It took all of about half an hour for Dean to jump back in the car, drive across town to the motel, pack their things and drive back home. When he knocked on the door a second time, he had Sam on his heels looking a mixture of elated to be here and really don't want to intrude. Levi was ecstatic to discover he had an uncle as well as a dad, and I was almost grateful for the attention to be directed away from myself for once. It's always been me and him against the world, but being a single mom to a pocket tornado was hard fucking work, and it was a breath of fresh air to be able to sit down on my own couch and drink my coffee in peace.
Tumblr media
Dean had insisted on watching Mothra Vs Godzilla despite Levi's hesitation to watch such an old film. Dean won him over eventually with promises of ‘pop culture enlightenment’ and he now sat sandwiched between his two new favourite people - dad and uncle Sammy. The amber glow from the sunset slowly faded to indigo shadows, the only light now in the living room was from the TV and a few scented candles dotted around us. Around an hour into the film I looked over and saw Levi's head resting on Deans shoulder, eyes closed and chest rising and falling with slow, steady breaths. Dean happened to glance up and our eyes locked, an adoring smile on Deans’ face as he looked between me and his soundly sleeping son. So as not to wake him, I pointed to Levi then pointed to the stairs, gesturing to Dean to carry him up to his room. He caught on to what I was asking of him and he manoeuvred his large arms under Levis shoulders and legs, lifting him with an ease I was slightly envious of. Levi was tall, much like his father and uncle, and with being tall came the title ‘big for his age’. He’d reached that point now where I was unable to lift him more than a few centimetres off the floor, and the thought sent an unusual pang of emotion through my chest. Which emotion, I wasn’t sure… Perhaps it was longing? Longing for the clock to rewind back to when he was just a few years old and I could still carry him everywhere on my hip. Maybe it was dread, knowing that he’s growing up so fast and I feel as though the last nine years have passed by in a blur, despite the fact that I’ve barely been able to keep my head above water. Or maybe, just maybe, it was simply the sight of a man such as Dean Winchester looking down at his own child in his arms with such a look of total, unfaltering adoration that my heart was swelling beyond its usual capacity for such affection.
I stood with Dean and headed up the stairs in front of him, leading the way. There were only three doors to choose from once you reached the top of the stairs; my room, the bathroom, and Levis room. And Levis room wasn’t hard to miss, with its poster of ‘types of classic cars’ pinned to his door along with a makeshift name sign that we made together when he was around five. I pushed the handle and opened the door, slipping in first so I could throw the covers back on his bed. It was a swift ordeal after Dean laid him on the soft mattress and I tucked the covers around him. We both left the room and I closed the door quietly behind me, both of us heading back downstairs quickly so as to not risk waking the sleeping kid.
“Well, that is much easier with two people,” I said with a chuckle on my breath as I descended the last few stairs. Before I gave Dean a chance to say anything in response, I stepped into the kitchen, not wanting his reply to make that heavy pang appear in my chest again. “Beer?” I asked, opening the fridge and retrieving a cold bottle.
“Absolutely,” he stepped over to me with his hands buried in the pockets of his jeans, a lazy smile on his lips. I handed him two bottles, knowing he’d give one to Sam. Who, of which, was still sitting on the couch watching the movie.
“So,” I started, looking up at Dean as we slowly made our way back to the living room, “how do you boys normally spend your evenings?” I tried my best to hide my almost playful smirk behind a swig of my beer.
“Now ain’t that a question,” his expression mirrored mine as we both slumped down onto the couch again, much closer together this time now that Levi was counting sheep. Dean handed his brother a beer, barely looking at him as his eyes never left mine. “Oh, you know, the usual,” he started, leaning back against the plush cushions, one arm slung over the back rest and tauntingly close to my shoulders.
“Oh? Feel free to enlighten me.”
“Well, it’s normally spent working on a case, so… researching lore, or on the road, or burning shit that I really hate having to burn. Maybe we’ll go out for drinks, but uh, that’s a rare occurrence.”
I laughed a dry laugh, raising my bottle.
“Amen to that, I’ve not been out for drinks in ages.  Not proper ones, at least.”
Dean looked away from me and down at his bottle.
“Huh...”
“What?” I raised an eyebrow at him.
“Nothing, just… I would’ve thought you’d be going on dates and getting taken out for a good time. Like, a lot. ”
I couldn’t help but scoff at his comment.
“Dates these days are few and far between. And good dates are practically non-existent,” I paused, debating giving Dean the gory details before my mouth started working of its own accord. “I got taken out the other day by a guy who drinks kale smoothies and lives in boat shoes… tried to convince me that the church he belongs to is totally not a cult. I mean, he paid membership fees. And signed an NDA. Who does that?”
Dean held my gaze, as though searching for something that he didn’t even know he was searching for.
“You chose to see a guy like that? Dear God, your taste has changed,” his words were meant to be humorous but there was a subtle bite to them. Or maybe I'd imagined it?
I shook my head.
“No way, he was definitely not my type. It was a blind date, and if it wasn’t a blind date, it wouldn’t have happened.”
We both took a swig of our beer.
“I’m surprised,” he said suddenly, “I would’ve thought a girl like you would’ve been swept off her feet by now.”
“Oh, I was,” my words spilled out before I could stop them, “but that was nine years ago and I’m pretty sure he’s moved on.”
It took a breath of silence between us and a pitiful smile from me for Dean to catch on to what I’d said, his eyes widening slightly. He didn’t get much opportunity to reply, however, as Sam stood quickly. I’d almost forgotten he was there, but I'm glad he was as it drew Deans attention away from the red heat rising to my cheeks.
“Hey, uhhh, I’m just going to run to the car and grab our stuff,” he said, jabbing his thumb towards the front door. “(Y/n), when I come back in would it be ok if I used your dinner table to do some research?”
I nodded before speaking again.
“Yeah of course, be my guest. But isn’t it a little late to start doing all that work?”
He flashed a small, almost knowing smile to both myself and Dean.
“Not for us it isn’t. Plus I just… I just really like lore.”
Dean practically spat his beer back into his bottle.
“Really?” he asked his brother with a quizzical expression, “that’s the excuse you’re going for?”
Sam shrugged.
“No excuse. I’m just dedicated to uhhhh, to learning about… ghosts. It’s a real passion.”
“Aw geez,” Dean shook his head.
“Am I missing something here?” I spoke up finally, shooting them both questioning looks.
“Nope, just my little brother is being an idiot.”
Sam just shrugged, oozing with amusement before leaving out the front door to the car.
I blinked away the confusion, however my face must've given away the fact that I still had no clue what had just occurred between the two brothers, because Dean came to my rescue.
“Don't overthink it sweetheart, Sam's just being a pain in my ass.”
“I don't think I'm ever going to understand the secret handshake language you guys have. I feel like you have to be part of the ‘Winchester Boy Scouts’ to get the handbook for that one.”
Dean laughed, the sound pleasant and carefree as he drained the last few drops of beer from his bottle.
“Sam's definitely more of a boy scout than I am.”
“Whatever you say, Winchester.”
He leant forward and placed his empty bottle on the coffee table before turning in his seat so he faced me more.
“So, apart from childcare and Scientology weirdos, what else have you been up to?”
I couldn't stop the amusement from taking over my face at Dean's question.
“You know, you seem very interested in my life for someone who probably forgot I even existed until this morning.”
Deans expression fell slightly and he looked away, like I’d struck a nerve. When he looked up again, there was something simmering in his gaze, and I wasn't sure if it was pain, regret, guilt, or something else entirely. When he spoke, his voice was thick and low.
“I never forgot about you. Not once.”
My breath caught in my throat and my heart stumbled. When I opened my mouth to say, me neither, he carried on before I could get the words out.
“I tried calling in on you once.”
“You- you did?”
He nodded, slowly.
“I was near your parents' place about three years ago and I stopped by, hoping to see you again. Get your phone number and maybe stay in touch - properly this time. But when I got there, your parents didn't look happy to see me,” an almost pained laugh spilled from his throat. “Now I get why.”
I reached out, placing my hand reassuringly on his arm. My own emotions started to spiral. Slowly at first, a combination of pure relief that Dean never forgot. He even remembered where my parents lived, which coloured me very impressed. The other emotion, which was now growing in the pit of my stomach, bubbling and burning was anger. Rage. My parents knew that Dean was Levi's father the moment I fell pregnant, and it was no secret that they held a strong dislike for him, yet I never pinned them petty enough to let their animosity towards him interfere with the chance to set things right. For their grandson to know his father, and maybe, just maybe, act like the family they so desperately wanted their daughter to have. The saddest part was that, even though I was undeniably furious with them, I wasn't surprised.
“Dean, I'm so sorry, they never told-”
“Don't apologise for them, (Y/n). I knew from the moment I saw you today that they never passed on the message.”
My reply was quiet, the hot fury quickly simmering down to cold disbelief towards my own family.
“You're right, they didn't.”
“They told me that you'd moved on. That you had a good job and a husband, and that… and that you resented me for leaving.”
“Fuck. Dean, none of that is true. I have a mediocre job at best, I'm certainly not married - never have been and probably never will. And Dean,” I moved my hand from his arm and slipped it into his warm palm, “I do not resent you.” I offered him a reassuring smile which he returned, tension quickly leaving his shoulders. Squeezing his hand, I continued, “If anything, I should say thank you.”
“Why would you thank me?” He looked puzzled.
“Because you've taken this surprisingly well for a man of your… calibre.”
He looked as though he didn't know whether insulted or flattered.
“Of my calibre?” He repeated, learning back slightly.
“Well, yeah. In just shy of twelve hours you found out you had a son with someone you've not spoken to in almost a decade, you met your son, took him from Motocross straight to get ice-cream, then brought a movie and popcorn around that very same evening. For someone with an entire armoury in the trunk of their car, I didn't expect… I didn't expect this… I didn't expect you.”
“Didn't expect me?”
I smiled, that warmth appearing in my chest again.
“You're a natural father, Dean. You've made everything easy today, and I'm grateful. So fucking grateful, because over the years I've spent near enough every night laying awake, imaging Levi finally meeting you. And I braced myself for every reaction - every scenario - that you could've thrown our way. So, thank you. I mean it. And thank you for believing me.”
“Believing you?”
“Yeah, for believing me when I said he was yours. I think most guys would've demanded a paternity test, especially after all this time,” I couldn't stop myself from picking the sleeve of my cardigan, anxiety creeping in at the thought that he still might ask for one. However, Dean simply shook his head.
“I trust you, (Y/n). I know you're not the sort of person to lie about things like that, so I believe you. Plus…” his eyes shone with something akin to pride, “ you can't tell me that he's not mine. That's a Winchester attitude through and through.”
We shared a laugh. A light, easy laugh that had me looking at him in that overly familiar way. In the same way that would make my heart skip beats in my chest. I simultaneously felt like I knew him like I used to - that we still had that connection, that bond that made it so easy to be around each other. To feel for each other. On the other hand, we’d spent so much time apart, living completely different lives and getting by in such different ways. He'd had adventures, experiences that I would probably never be able to comprehend, and through all of that I'd been here; living in a two bedroom house in a quiet cul-de-sac in a town far too similar to Stars Hollow than I'd like to admit. I went to work, did school runs, went grocery shopping and grabbed coffee with my best friend in the same fucking café practically every day. And last I remembered, Dean was balls deep in credit card fraud. I wanted to make this work so fucking desperately that it almost hurt. I wanted Levi to have his dad around, to have those experiences boys thrive off with their fathers. I don't expect Dean and I will ever live under the same roof or even be together again, but I'm pretty damn sure that we can be friends, and that is something that would rock Levi's world.

The sound of the door opening and closing startled me from my thoughts as Sam let himself back into the house, sliding the locks and chains into place before turning to face us. He carried two duffle bags, dropping one beside the couch and taking one with him to the table, placing it down carefully so as not to make too much noise. He unzipped it and pulled out a laptop and a small stack of books, holding them up for us to see, like a prize.
“I just… fucking love ghosts,” his tone was unconvincing yet he grinned like he knew something we didn't before taking a seat and getting to work. Dean and I shared a look before erupting into laughter, trying painstakingly hard to keep quiet.
“Is your brother from a different planet? Wait no, scratch that, you're both equally as strange as each other. Earthlings or not, you're certainly cut from the same cloth.”
Dean feigned hurt with a hand on his chest yet the grin never left his lips. He muttered a few things about Sam picking his moments before standing from the couch, jabbing his thumb towards the kitchen green eyes on mine.
“Another beer?”
I felt my grin stretch further across my face, my heart doing a little dance at the way he looked down at me, like he just wanted to sit and talk about everything and nothing all at once - just like we used to. I nodded, trying not to let the way the soft glow from the candles in the room made him look like ‘a night well spent’.
“Yeah, I'd love another beer.”

Speaking of public health. What was the soul society reaction to the eradication of small pox like?
"You notice there's a lot less dead babies these days?" Iba asked in the middle of one morning's office work.
"Fewer dead babies." Komamura corrected without thinking. "Less is for things you measure by volume, fewer for things you count. We do not measure dead babies by volume."
"Oh. right." Iba nodded. "Yeah, that wouldn't be right."
After a moment, what his lieutenant actually said caught up with him. "Sorry- force of habit from living with a Librarian." Komamura shook his head and looked up from the monthly intake statistics analysis report, peering at Tetsuzaemon Iba through the narrow gap of his helmet. "What do you mean, fewer dead babies?"
"I dunno, it just occurred to me. When I started the academy in the 40's- right after the catastrophe- we did a student tour of the 7th division's recently deceased souls intake queue, remember?" Iba waved his hand leaning back in his chair, apparently uncertain of where he was going with this either, but articulating his thoughts.
"I believe so. I had just taken over from Captain Kotsubaki." Komamura nodded, patient. Chikane Iba was an excellent shinigami and had done a magnificent job running the third division, but she had a tendency to talk over and bulldoze her son, so Komamura had learned to be patient when the young man when he felt like he should share a thought.
"Yeah, yeah- Not gonna lie Boss, you scared the crap out of me back then." Tetsuzaemon laughed. "-But the thing that stuck out to me that day was just. The sheer number of Infants and little kids in the line. the guy giving us the tour- I think it was Old Ito, actually- He said that one in five babies in the living world didn't live to see their fifth birthday."
"An improvement even back then- it was one in three children when back when I started in the 1840s." Komamura nodded. "It's funny that I frightened you- Captain Aikawa apparently headhunted me for the 7th because Kaname told him about how the children at the library used to use me as playground equipment."
"Good grief." Iba blanched. "So, what, he threw you in the deep end with all the dead kids?"
"In Captain Aikawa's defense, I did volunteer to handle children's cases. As sad as a frightened infant is, it's infinitely preferable than dealing with the deceased who are angry."
Iba frowned, opened his mouth like he was about to object, reconsidered, closed it, considered further, rocking his head from side to side, and then nodded. "I- yeah, Yeah, that tracks."
"You were saying though?" Komamura laced his fingers in front of him, leaning forward to listen.
"Oh! Well- not as much these days but back then, every family had like seven and eight kids, you know? And I realized that, well- almost everyone I know has a dead sibling or two? Almost every mother lost a child- Gods know my mother's a basket case but even getting a cold could send her into fits. If something had happened to me when I was a tyke- I don't think she would have pulled through."
Komamura nodded enough for Iba to see his helmet tilt to indicate he as still listening.
"I- I don't actually know where I was going with this, but I was reading that report earlier and there's a note from Shita-san at the end that this is the first month we haven't had a kid under the age of five in the intake queue. Ever."
Komamura flipped though the pages of the report to read the hand-written note at the end. "That is excellent news!"
"Oh! Yeah! It's great!" Iba nodded enthusiastically. "It just- I don't know, I guess it just snuck up on me and I'm so used to hearing something went wrong I guess I don't quite know what to do with good news?" he shrugged.
Komamura pondered this for a moment. "Hm. Well. Take heart, to start. But I see what you mean- it's a tremendous achievement, but not one we contributed to, and a "No Dead Babies This Month" office party feels in poor taste at best."
"Oof, yeah- especially if next month there's an accident or something and there's a whole bunch in the queue." Iba nodded. He considered things for a moment.
"-What happened that there are le- fewer dead babies, actually?" Iba frowned. "-Whoever it is, it would be appropriate to toast them and make an offering in their name to the Gods of Good Fortune, I think. Also do more of whatever they did."
"That IS a good idea!" Komamura smiled under his helmet. Perhaps it was his training as a priest, but he did enjoy an offering of goodwill ceremony. Also, nobody would ask him to drink- just pour any alcohol he was offered on the statue of the relevant deity. "I think- It's probably in our statistics, if the tenth division doesn't have an idea already. Can you collect the cause of death data for young children for the last-"
He was interrupted by the thunderous footsteps of someone sprinting towards the office, immediately followed by a tall young woman with short white hair throwing the door open, red-faced and winded.
"THEY DID IT! THE MAD BASTARDS THEY DID IT!" She shouted with wild excitement.
"Isane-? Uh, Miss Kotetsu?" Iba flustered.
"Please keep your voice down-" Komamura said through gritted teeth, trying not to growl at being suddenly shouted at. "Who has-?"
He was interrupted by Miss Kotetsu bolting right up to his desk and shoving a newspaper into his face hard enough to actually wrap around his helmet in excitement.
"SMALLPOX! IT'S GONE!!" She shrieked with joy.
"-gone?" Iba asked, bewildered as Komamura gently took the newspaper from her and pulled it back to actually read it. It was a newspaper from the living world, dated that morning- someone had gone through some pains to get it back to the Seireitei at speed, but the news was worth it:
SMALLPOX IS DEAD!
"TOTALLY ERADICATED! EXTINCT! KAPUT! IT HAS CEASED TO BE!" She bounced excitedly. "IT IS AN EX-PANDEMIC!"
"So like. Nobody has it this year?" Iba tried.
"Nobody has it this year, or will ever have it again, if I'm reading this right." Komamura muttered in awe. "Thanks to an aggressive worldwide vaccination and disease protocol program, there have been no human cases of the disease for several years. Since there are no people infected, there is no way for the disease to come back..."
Both men stared into space, the news almost unbelievable.
"Well. That does explain the Less Dead Babies thing." Iba nodded.
"Fewer Dead Babies." Komamura and Isane corrected in unison.
"I mean yeah that sure is part of it because Smallpox was the number one killer of infants in the living world for a long time there, but there's a whole bunch of stuff that's really cut down on infant mortality in the last few decades in particular." Isane nodded.
"We were JUST Talking about that!" Iba said, excitedly. "-Good to know you guys in the fourth are keeping track of that, It was gonna take forever to pull out that data..."
"Oh, could you pull it out anyway Tetsu-kun?" She asked. "-That's most of why I came over- I mean, to share the good news first, but Unohana-Taicho is planning on using this to really push a widespread vaccination program in the Rukongai and having the numbers to back us up would be really helpful!"
"Oh! Uh, sure!" Iba blushed.
"...You know this young lady, Tetsu-Kun?" Komamura lightly teased.
Both of the young people twitched and bowed to him, pointing at each other and speaking at once.
"Oh! I'm sorry Sir, I'm fourth division third seat Isane Kotetsu, i just know Iba because we were in the same class at the academy-" She babbled.
"-this is Isane Kotetsu, she's the smartest person I know and she saved my life from a lizard one time!" He waved excitedly.
"...That lizard was not going to kill you." She sighed, covering her face in embarrassment. "-I mean, if you developed a sepsis infection from the contaminated wound it might have made you very ill but that would take weeks and we have antibiotics for that, the lizard itself wasn't all that dangerous."
"It was INSIDE my LEG!" Iba gestured to his right thigh.
Komamura slowly tilted his whole torso sideways at Iba, hoping that sentence might make more sense at a forty-five degree angle. "...How?"
"I. Uh." Iba stopped, realizing his story was maybe not one he should be telling his boss. "I was. um. Out camping with the lads back when I was in the 11th, and a lizard climbed into my cot and I was. not totally awake and thought someone was trying to cop a feel and well you know, that's behavior you respond to with force so I rolled over and tried to stab the intruder's hand and. Uh. Missed."
Komamura continued to stare at him blankly.
"There was. screaming. lotta flailing, blood, general mayhem sort of thing. And in the confusion the Lizard.... climbed. inside the hole. In my leg. Sir." Iba explained, slowly crumpling behind his desk.
Komamura sighed deeply.
"-but Miss Isane was right there and actually kicked Ikkaku halfway across the camp because he was trying to lure it out with a Banana and generally being useless and she just grabbed that sucker and ripped him right outta there and had the wound packed and sealed in less than a minute and I even got to finish doing boot camp!" He rallied, cheerfully waving at Isane in hopes of distracting his captain with how cool she was.
"...What happened to the lizard?" Komamura asked, warily eyeing her through the gap in his helmet.
"Oh! He was really, really human acclimated and sneaked into my medkit rather than go back into the wild, so Harry lives a very spoiled lizard life in a terrarium in my room at home! Though it's actually my sister's room now but he still gets all the mango and smashed beetles he can eat!" Isane nodded cheerfully.
"You named a lizard. Harry?" Komamura asked slowly.
"...Iba-san named him, actually." She blushed.
"Ironically!" Iba protested. "I'm only mostly stupid, sir."
Komamura sighed deeply and once again regretted that his disguise would not let him rub his face as needed. "Alright. Thank you for the announcement, Miss Kotetsu. We will get that data to you in a timely manner- was there anything else you needed"
"Oh gosh, there was something else, what was it-?" She tapped her chin, trying to remember.
There was the distant sound of explosives, and all three of them turned to see what looked like midday fireworks going off at the 4th.
"Oh Right! Unohana-taicho requests your presence at the 4th as. Um. 'Designated Non-Drinker and Unarmed Combat Specialist' because the party was getting kind of wild when I left actually-"
Komamura sighed, and picked up Tenken from his stand and started tying the zanpaktou to his belt anyway.
---
The following morning, a small party arrived at the local shrines to The Gods Of Good Fortune, bearing offerings on behalf of the living world's World Health Organization and the handful of names they'd been able to glean from the living world newspapers, and nursing varying degrees of of hangover.
Komamura lead the party, having gotten them up at a slightly malicious 5AM to be there first thing in the morning. Tetsuzaemon and his friends from the 11th he insisted come along and 'suffer with me, as my sworn brothers' were quite pained but doing their best to hold it together.
Shunsui was a veteran of this nonsense and was hiding the pain very well behind his longtime party companions, Ukitake and Unohana, who seemed so extraordinarily cheerful that Komamura had to conclude that they were both still significantly chemically altered. He couldn't fault Unohana- they were faint and only visible on the rare occasions she let her hair down, but just below her left ear there was still the faint divot scars from surviving her own infection.
Isane had celebrated just as hard as the 11th Division lads, but had also had the good sense to alternate beer and water and take both aspirin and some sort of horrible pink goop that apparently relieved nausea before passing out under a table and had woken up only slightly groggy.
Komamura's new friend Harry the Lizard- a remarkably loquacious and quick-witted reptile -had taken up residence inside his helmet, lightly intoxicated on the cocktail fruits people had kept feeding him, and was politely nestled in the thick fur of his neck to ward off the morning cold.
The rituals of gratitude for this miracle, and asking the Gods to bless those who had worked so hard went smoothly, and Komamura couldn't help but notice when he turned around that Miss Kotetsu had opted to lean on the shoulder of 'Tetsu-kun'.
It was not often Komamura started the day with the feeling that everything would turn out alright, but as he watched Tetsuzaemon cautiously but gracelessly take Isane's hand and her squeeze it back on the way back down from the shrine, he felt like the feeling might stay this time.

suggestion based off your post asking for suggestions: what do you think all their favorite albums would be. mind you they’re in the late 1960s so like it would be an album they liked so much they would save up and buy the record. lord knows music was an arm and a leg for 10 tracks. I’m thinkin engie might be into Johnny Cash, definitely bein into At Folsom Prison and probably also Townes Van Zandts self titled album when they came out in 1969. Scout would probably be a Chuck berry fan. I can also see him knowing how to dance to 40s big band music because his ma used to dance with him in his brothers in the living room as kids but he would be embarrassed about that one. Soldier would HATE the Beatles. and I have no idea about everyone else.
You. You get it. I’m gonna squeeze you. /pos
I love this ask so much I am going to do 60’s AND make it regional and Historical! Because we are syncing brain waves rn. (With a little bit of karaoke headcanonz)

Medic - I believe that Medic is a very chaotic music lover. He has a background of classical in some way, with his fascination for it in the game and it’s bled outward into loving loud booms and the thrill of it speeding up.
So maybe some early forms of rock? Especially if it’s Peggy Peter’s. He sings like shit though.
Heavy - I’m not going to lie, this immediately came to me. Heavy loves pop. Heavy loves a bouncy little jig that he can play while cleaning Sasha. He probably got it from his sisters. I also believe that he has a very strong sense of political beliefs about his country so pop that has a message.
Definitely Edita Piekha. 100%. Lovely vocals from the gods. A little rattling, but He is a perfect bass.
Scout - HE WOULD LOVE CHUCK BERRY. That man hums ‘My Ding-a-ling’ as he showers. Absolutely.
He has Sex Bomb tattooed, but I’m sure his favorite Tom Jones song is actually It’s Not Unusual. He screeches when he sings instead of singing higher.
Demo - I see him being into much older songs for his age (he’s like nearly 30) just because of the way his mother raised him. I think he’s got an older soul than he thinks. So 1940’s swing and soul. Strong believer that he has more than a few albums that he cherishes, but most of them are from his mom.
He cries every time he puts it on though, just to let the feelings out. When he’s drunk, he sings terribly, when he’s sober? Probably still a little bad but he doesn’t know his range and doesn’t care if he’s tone deaf.
Pyro - I have personal ideas about Pyro that makes me think he is a huge Jimi Hendrix fan. I refuse to explain or elaborate as I will be here all day.
All Along the Watchtower. He bounces whenever it’s played.
Sniper - Jazz. I know it’s an easy answer, but it’s also THE RIGHT ONE. I think he’s very much a “nod his head and listen” type of music lover as a posed to “can’t stop moving” sort of guy.
He also probably prefers wordless music, for focus, and lyrics in music when he’s alone. (He is dancing in his room when no one’s around.)
Soldier - FUCKING HATES THE BEATLES. I’m almost tempted to say the only thing he listens to is music about WAR. But he’s probably into punk music. But I’m sure he fucks up and listens to anti war songs instead of actual war songs. So he’s accidentally listening to ‘hippie music’. No one has the will to explain it to him.
His favorite song is probably Gene Stridel - What do you win when you win a war. But only when he’s more self aware, more aware of his situation. It comes and goes. Soldier refuses to sing the song, ever. But it’s close to his heart, even if he sometimes doesn’t know why.
Spy - secretly a hippie. Definitely into Yé-yé, a type of french-ized version of British pop/exotica (like THE BEATLES.) He shows Soldier his music taste and it sends him into a rage. I think he takes pleasure in it.
Especially Baroque Yé-yé. Very Spy feely. Also Scout’s mom has probably shown him some Josephine Baker, and he likes it. Sings in a snooty little voice but it sounds pleasant enough. He thinks he’s the best singer in the team. (it’s heavy)
Engineer - GOD, you’re so right. Johnny Cash is the most fitting for him. I feel like he’s definitely a music sharer and taker. He carries songs from the people who he loves around with him. I think his mom loves Tammy Wynette and it’s crossed over to him.
Rip, you stupid fuck, you would have loved Poor Man’s Poison. He probably does that thing where they end off words in country with like a howl, instead of just ending the sentence.

Hey stink stink 😘✌🏾 just came to bother you. I was wondering if we could get a 42!miles morales x black! Reader who listens to Lana del Rey. He’s gonna be like “ wtf is this 🤢“ while I’m just hanging out in his uncles house? His room ? A Song of Emotions
➥ summary: miles can’t escape his girlfriend’s favorite artist
➥ earth 42 miles x reader
➥ a/n: do leave feedback if you’ve enjoyed it, it’s much appreciated :)
Tumblr media
The sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm, golden glow across the tranquil neighborhood where Miles resided. It was a peaceful evening, and anticipation tingled in the air as (Y/N) prepared to visit Miles at his home. She clutched her phone tightly, her heart brimming with excitement. There was something she couldn't wait to share with him—the latest song from her favorite artist, Lana Del Rey.
As (Y/N) arrived at Miles's doorstep, a wide smile illuminated her face. She greeted him with a cheerful hug, her enthusiasm palpable. "Miles, you won't believe it! Lana Del Rey just released a new song, and it's incredible! I've been listening to it on repeat all day. I can't wait for you to hear it!"
Miles, not particularly familiar with Lana Del Rey's music, raised an eyebrow in curiosity. He had always appreciated (Y/N)'s enthusiasm for music and her passion for exploring various genres. Still, he couldn't help but feel skeptical about this particular artist. "Lana Del Rey, huh? I've heard her name before, but I can't say I'm a fan. Well, I guess I'll give it a listen for your sake."
The duo settled into Miles's cozy living room, where soft ambient lighting created a tranquil atmosphere. (Y/N) connected her phone to the speakers, her fingers dancing across the screen as she selected the song that had enthralled her heart. With bated breath, she pressed play, and the ethereal melodies of "Sad Girl" filled the room.
As the haunting voice of Lana Del Rey caressed the air, weaving a tapestry of emotions, Miles's initial skepticism began to melt away. He found himself captivated by the melancholic beauty of the song, its poetic lyrics resonating within him. The soft piano chords and the dreamlike atmosphere drew him deeper into the music, allowing him to appreciate its raw vulnerability.
(Y/N) watched Miles closely, her heart filled with anticipation, hoping that he would feel even a fraction of the magic she experienced when listening to this song. Seeing the transformation in his expression, she couldn't help but feel a surge of joy. She knew that music had a way of connecting souls and transcending personal preferences.
“Well that’s enough for me,” miles say getting up mid song and leaving off to the living room where his uncle Aaron was chilling, but little did miles know his girlfriend wasn’t giving up so easily, she was going to make him listen to this song especially after she binged the song like five times in a row now.
As Miles left the room, he made his way to the living room, where his uncle Aaron sat on the couch, engrossed in a book. Miles settled down beside him, ready to engage in some much-needed relaxation.
Meanwhile, (Y/N) couldn't contain her excitement. The melodies of "Sad Girl" still reverberated within her, filling her with a surge of uninhibited joy. With a mischievous twinkle in her eyes, she stepped out of the room and into the living room, her voice soaring with confidence.
She began to sing, her voice carrying the enchanting lyrics of the song, blending harmoniously with the atmosphere. (Y/N) swayed to the rhythm, her movements fluid and graceful, as she focused on Miles, ignoring the presence of his uncle Aaron.
"Now I'm a sad girl, I'm a bad girl. I'm a nasty girl," her voice resonated through the room, each word filled with emotion. She danced around Miles, inviting him to join in, her eyes locked with his.
Miles's eyes widened in surprise, caught off guard by (Y/N)'s impromptu serenade. He glanced at his uncle Aaron, who was observing the scene with amusement. With a shrug and a playful smile, Miles decided to indulge his girlfriend's infectious energy.
"All right, fine, whatever cariño,” he said, using a term of endearment. "It's not that bad of a song. Especially if it's coming from your lips." Miles stood up, allowing himself to be drawn into (Y/N)'s dance, letting the music guide their movements.
They twirled and swayed, their bodies moving in synchrony to the haunting melodies. As (Y/N) sang, the lyrics painted a picture of their emotions, interweaving their souls through the power of music.
Uncle Aaron watched the couple with a fond smile, recognizing the connection they shared. He understood the importance of embracing moments of joy and vulnerability, especially when it came to matters of the heart.
(Y/N) continued to sing, her voice growing stronger and more captivating with every verse. Miles couldn't help but be enchanted by her performance. He found himself smiling, fully immersed in the moment, as they danced together in a harmonious blend of affection and shared enthusiasm.
The room filled with an aura of warmth and lightheartedness, as the three of them—Miles, (Y/N), and Uncle Aaron—embraced the joyous spontaneity of the moment. It was a reminder that life was meant to be experienced fully, with all its quirks and delightful surprises.
As the song reached its crescendo, (Y/N)'s voice soared, her eyes fixed on Miles with unwavering devotion. With a final note, she brought the impromptu performance to a close, her voice fading into the silence.
Breathless and smiling, (Y/N) stood before Miles, their hands still intertwined. "See, even Lana Del Rey thinks we should dance and be happy," she said, a playful glimmer in her eyes.
Miles chuckled, his heart warmed by (Y/N)'s infectious spirit. "You're right, cariño, Sometimes it's good to let go and embrace the joy that comes our way. Thank you for reminding me of that."
Uncle Aaron, who had been quietly observing, joined in with a clap of his hands. "Well, you two certainly know how to liven up an evening. Keep dancing and singing, my dear niece. Music has a way of bringing people closer."
And so, in the cozy living room, amidst the shared laughter and the echoes of Lana Del Rey's lyrics, Miles and (Y/N) reveled in the simple pleasure of music, knowing that their bond was strengthened through every song they danced to and every melody they sang together.

Hitting The Curve
Tumblr media
Notes;
Modern day au
Y/n is gender neutral
_________
Spencer, knew he liked you. It was only friendly of course. Your his coworker.
Why would he ever want to date you? Sure, you’re just as smart as him, listen to him rant on and on without getting bored. And-Oh- another thing, out of every one in and outside of the office he seems to be the only person you’re ever actually nice to.
So he didn’t really understand why he got this tingling all over his body and why his mind went blank and his face got hot when you simply leaned on his arm..ok maybe let me be more specific..
You, him and Derek, had been talking about how much you liked cd’s, he doesn’t really remember how you guys got here, because he was reading and only inserted himself into the conversation when you asked what kind of music he liked.
“Classical.”
He stated simply
(This is important for later)
After a few seconds to long of silence, he spoke up again
“Or opera”
He watched you nod, Not really caring what Derek had to say in this moment, that’s what was odd about how he felt about you. He craved you’re attention. He yearned for it.
But anyway. Back to the story.
“Uh huh..”
You nodded
“I don’t really listen to music though, I prefer vinyl’s in all honesty”
He did.
“Oh yes! That was the subject at hand.”
You lightened
“I prefer cd’s, I do use my phone for music, of course,it’s only natural this day In age. But I just like the feel of having a physical copy of things.”
“I should know, I’ve seen the atrocious amount of cd racks you have in your living room”
Derek chimed. Chuckling. But all Spencer could think about was that Derek Morgan. The womanizer, got himself into your house, and did what?
“Well duh. Everyone saw it.when I said “don’t mind the racks” I wasn’t talking about money. I literally meant racks. Like of CD’s.”
You rolled you’re eyes playfully, like it was some big inside joke he wasn’t apart of…
“Uh- if I may ask- what kind of music do you listen to?”
He felt like a kid, asking out the hottest girl in his freshmen class (who. For him, was like 4 years older then him. Not the point but also…kind of the point)
“You may”-you Plato-“I listen to a lot of stuff, it’s kind of hard to explain it, it really depends on my mood in the moment. But if I had to pinpoint a specific genre it would probably be /insert your favorite/ most listened to genre here/ but over all I listen to just about anything.”
You shrug, pleased with you’re explanation.like a content cat.
“I actually have a few on me right now”
You only really seemed happy when you talked about things you liked…you were happy when you talked to him…so by proxy, you liked him..
“Oh god..here we go…”
Derek practically groaned
He heard Rosie chuckle on the other side of the jet
You smile, and pull out a CD holder
“Oh that looks like a lot more then a few..”
Spencer says, kind of just staring at it, like he’s trying to find something interesting to say, but he just can’t, like, the words won’t come to him.
And then it’s like your brain sparks a wire
“What if I got you a CD? Any one you want, I’ll find one and get it for you? How does that sound?”
You say, leaning on his shoulder and smiling
“You don’t have to answer, I’m gonna get you one anyway…trust.”
And like that his heart was on fire.
That was the moment he realized he was in love with you, or, that it was leading to love, that It would get that far. That he liked you as much as he did, the way you smiled, and leaned against his arm in the jet seat, how you, looked at him. The boy genius. The man who’s only good trait was his brain.
Time froze. Thank god for his memory. Because he’s never gonna forget this moment. ever.

Kaji Fes.2023 Day 1 FULL Video [Reupload]
Find the original post from last night HERE. It doesn't show up on the Tumblr dashboard so only people who actively check my blog have seen it. I exchanged the video with an official one so I guess it might have been a copyright issue. Don't think I've ever had one, very interesting.

I was quite excited to watch this since I only attended Day 2 last December. I didn’t necessarily regret not going for Day 1 but there were a couple of really neat songs in the setlist that I kinda wished I had been able to see performed live. The audio seems a bit dull but maybe it’s just me… Anyway, it’s still a pretty epic live. Please note that they decided to cut a handful of songs from the broadcast (probably to keep the whole thing at roughly 2 hours). The following songs are not included: fake garden, canta per me, she has to overcome her fear, I beg you and 砂塵の彼方へ.
Here are some random thoughts┗(•ˇ_ˇ•)―→
fake garden
canta per me
the world: Nothing much to say here. Decent performance but I liked the song more when it was led by Keiko.
Liminality: Loved, loved, loved this version with the amazingly talented Yuri Kasahara, Keiko and Kaori. The bridge here might be my favourite of all time.
in the land of twilight, under the moon: Never been a fan.
swordland: Another highlight for me. I think it’s easy to tell that I am a real sucker for YK’s guest vocalists that use a more operatic singing style.
she has to overcome her fear
luminous sword: Always been a big fan of Yuki’s SAO soundtrack. I understand why it gets performed a lot.
星屑: Even though this is a Keiko-centric song, I’ve never really liked it all that much so I don’t have much to say about it.
花守の丘: Solid.
we’re gonna groove: Those who have followed me for a while know how I feel about the accordion. I dislike this instrument with a passion and it’s just featured way too heavily here. Fun fact, when Day 2 started with the accordion, I got really scared and wondered whether or not I would enjoy myself.
Obsession: Can’t say I’ve ever heard this song before. Sadly, it’s nothing that leaves a lasting impression. Also, that accordion…(¬_¬) Weird choice for LINO LEIA. It was fun hearing Keiko sing a bit of English though.
千夜一夜: Once again, not familiar with the song. Like this one a bit more though. Generally, I think I prefer rito’s vocals over LINO’s even though I don’t really know why.
Point Zero: This is one of my all-time favourite YK songs and one of the few tracks I really regret not seeing live on Day 1. Another epic performance by Yuri Kasahara. God, I love her so much.
salva nos: Speaking of regrets, yup, I’ll admit it, I am pretty bummed that I missed this one. “salva nos” and “a song of storm and fire” were the very first YK songs I ever listened to and they quite literally changed the trajectory of my life. Without those two songs, I wouldn’t have looked into more of YK’s stuff and I certainly wouldn’t have discovered Kalafina. One day, I wanna be there for a live performance. At least I got to hear “a song of storm and fire” on Day 2. So grateful for that!! Anyway, super epic.
花の唄: No thoughts.
I beg you
櫂: Ahh, I almost forgot about Aimer’s Mizu no Akashi 2.0. It’s so funny to me that this is literally copy/paste. Lovely melody, I don’t even mind the vocals all that much but damn, it’s not even coming close to Wakana’s Mizu no Akashi.
朝が来る: Decent but nothing to write home about.
My Story: Ohhh, another score track from “Hanako to Anne”. I was actually blown away by Day 2’s “希望の光”. This is not as good but still quite nice. Weirdly enough I am obsessed with the uilleann pipes. How come I can’t stand the accordion but I absolutely love this instrument? Probably because I am really into the celtic sound?
Parallel Hearts: Ugh, never liked this song, not even when Wakana was still around.
stone cold: This on the other hand is a song I’ve always enjoyed but with Wakana no longer in the picture, it’s just not the same. Will never get used to the Kaori chorus. Sorry T_T Still like this though.
the image theme of Xenosaga II: Good stuff.
蒼穹のファンファーレ: Love that this is focusing on the FJ regulars. My favourite performance of the song so far.

So, just got home from my appointment with my new doc. I gave him the Cliff Notes version of all the issues I've been having for the last few months, and I forgot a copy of the initial iron panel that I had done, unfortunately (I meant to bring it and even left it on my computer so I would remember; how did that work for you, dumbass?) but I remembered my numbers, and as soon as I told him what the results were for my initial iron panel, he immediately said, 'That's low."
I KNOW. PLEASE TELL DR. CRAZY THAT.
Basically, he listened to everything I said, asked relevant questions, asked if I'd had my thyroid levels checked (because thyroid can definitely cause some of these problems), said if necessary in future if there are still issues, we can do a thyroid scan, but let's get an updated iron panel done to see where I'm at and if we can increase my dose, work on the iron deficiency, and then go from there. I asked about iron infusions to speed things up, and he said, "Yeah, definitely, we can see if we can get that covered for you if you want to do that." I said I know insurances are a pain when it comes to coverage and a lot of them won't pay unless your hemoglobin is low, and that I have a health savings account and am able and willing to pay out of pocket, and he was like, "Ok, good."
He also offered to refer me to a hematologist, and I said I had thought of asking my last doctor for that, but he was difficult to work with (understatement of the year) and that I figured an appointment with a hematologist would probably be pretty far out anyway, and I'd prefer to try and get in a lot sooner if possible for an infusion. He said, "Yeah, hematology is always backed up." I did say I had been in touch with a telehealth hematologist about possibly ordering an iron infusion, but thought it would probably be faster to go through a local doctor if it was possible to get it ordered through him, but that's at least an option; he was glad to hear I'd been in touch with a hematologist. He wants to see where I'm currently at with my iron panel (I haven't tested it for six weeks) and then figure out what the best course of treatment is based on my numbers. (If I'm at a certain level, an infusion wouldn't be safe, because I'd risk overload, but considering that in four weeks of supplementing, I went up nine points, and then in another four weeks, I went down a point, I'm gonna' be extremely shocked if he comes back like, "Yeah, your ferritin went up to 150, so we can't do an infusion right now."
He actually even brought up POTS and said some of my cardiac symptoms were similar, and I said, "Yeah, I had thought of that, but my heart rate isn't really consistent." He asked if I meant that it wasn't going up when I changed positions, and I said, "Well, it's been coming down as I've been supplementing, and I don't think it would do that if it were POTS. Also, my normal resting heart rate is in the 60s, and on bad days, just lying down in bed, not doing anything, my heart rate is in the 90s. It goes up higher the more I exert myself, obviously, but even lying down doing nothing it's a lot higher than my normal resting heart rate."
I told my previous doctor all of this, and he just ignored all of it and continued to blather on about how the shot had given me POTS.
Do you know what this doctor did? He said, "Oh, yeah, probably not POTS then. Also, if cardiology already checked you out and they didn't even mention it as a possibility, it's probably not."
He also asked if I had a history of iron deficiency anemia, and I said I hadn't had labwork done at the time so I didn't know what my iron levels were or if my hemoglobin was abnormal, but many years ago after a blood donation I started feeling really sick, had the high heart rate and shortness of breath and could barely get off the couch, and I was still living at home at the time, and my mom was a nurse and just put me on iron supplements and that resolved my symptoms, and that those cardiac problems seem to just be how my body responds to low iron.
And he just. Took that at face value. Like, ok, you have a history of this, then, let's work on getting it sorted out and then look at other possibilities if it doesn't all clear up with iron treatment.
So I'm getting my iron panel done Friday, and then we'll go from there with treatment options.

And for Bonnie of course: 9, 23, 29!
Bonnie's turn :D
Tumblr media
Yes!! My biggest inspiration at this time was Psyche Callista from the webtoon Your throne.
Tumblr media
I'm not hiding it, I wanted Bonnie's relationship to be like Psyche x Medeia (this ship isn't canon (yet???) so I was like "I'm gonna do it myself") that is really a Hufflepuff x Slytherin ship trope. I'm a Psyche stan and love how good her writing is. She can be first seen as the typical "goody-two-shoes" character, just being pretty and kind and could ended up boring and one-dimensional?? But I love how she proves to Medeia (the typical Slytherin-type) how kindness can be a quality, and how being good to those around you pays off in the end. But she still had to learn that the world isn't as good as her, accept it, and fight in her own way for those she loves. Cinderella is the biggest inspiration after her, both Disney version (animation and live-action), for the same reasons. Characters with a good heart who won't lose their hopes and dreams despite the difficulties and mad world they live in. Look at me and dare call them weak.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bonnie is Disney-princess coded. I wanted her to be graceful, beautiful and innocent-looking. She fits the beauty criteria, she's slim and tall, and her tooth gap + droopy eyes reinforce her innocent look. I also tend to have the same face syndrome, so to differentiate her from Faustine who has a rounder face and big, wondering eyes, I wanted everything about her to be long (her body, her face, her nose…). I had this picture that was looping on my Pinterest, and I knew I wanted her to look like this.
Tumblr media
The most obvious thing that changed was that I took off his gray jacket. I thought it made him look too severe. I preferred her white shirt with puffed sleeves, which gave her a floaty, princessy look that I really like, and the white emphasizes her purity and classy-look. (first look vs recent look)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm someone who has a hard time changing a chara design once I'm attached to it (rip my ocs from when I was 13), so I don't know if I'll change anything. I like drawing her with different hairstyles and putting her in victorian dresses, but that's all for now.
Tumblr media
People didn't really have a choice but to listen to classical music in Victorian times :'D But even in the modern world, she would actually listen to it and appreciate it. Call it cliché but she's coming from a noble family, and she had to learn to play classical instrument (here's a harp). Still, I'd like to think she'll discover metal rock with Imelda, and she'll enjoy it as much as classic 😂

𝗪𝗛𝗢 𝗜𝗦 𝗜𝗞𝗘𝗨𝗖𝗜𝗧𝗬
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗗𝗨𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡.
i’m keuri, 23, living in the philippines, working full-time remotely. being a certified homebody, i’m not exactly avoiding social interaction like it’s the plague—I just prefer my own company. introverted as fuck, no real-life engene friends (as much as i'd love to have some). so, tumblr became my outlet for all the enhypen delusions and nsfw thoughts swirling in my head on the daily. outside of work which i actually enjoy doing (not me being a workaholic), i’m in a relationship and live with my partner. honestly, i relate to jay on a spiritual level—my love language is acts of service and gift-giving, and i’m always doing something for the people i love. (i swear he doesn't know how spoiled he is) he also knows that i write smut and is my first boyfriend who hadn't been weirded out by me liking enhypen), he's super supportive and i am very grateful. you’ll usually catch me cooking, cleaning, or yelling at my valorant teammates to plant the goddamn spike (because why is it so hard for people to listen?!). i’m not a hardcore gamer or anything, but i enjoy playing with my boyfriend and his friends—keeps things interesting. and when i’m not getting fucked over by my valo teammates, i’m knee-deep in my enhypen fantasies. i’m always jotting down new ideas, watching their videos, tiktok edits, or reading imagines. enhypen’s music is always my background soundtrack, and sometimes i swear i hear my neighbors blasting it too. i’ve honestly wondered if i have a fellow engene neighbor, but i’ve never had the nerve to actually find out (not after they had only if you say yes on repeat for days). i’ve lived here for 2 years and don’t know a single one of them, and i’m kinda okay with that. i’m also a huge anime fan—and i’m always down to try new things. whether it's a fresh anime, a wild fic idea, or something a little more… explicit, i’m all in.
𝗪𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗦𝗧𝗬𝗟𝗘.
let’s get this straight: i write what i want, and i don’t care what anyone else thinks about it. i’m willing to do a lot of things when it comes to writing, and i’ve got endless ideas, but my favorite? the forbidden trope. i live for the danger, the tension, the steamy “this-shouldn’t-happen-but-it’s-gonna-happen” vibe. don’t expect me to write what you want—if you don’t like it, feel free to fuck off. i won’t be adjusting for anyone’s preferences, so read at your discretion. if it’s not your thing? move along. i’m obsessed with slow burn—the kind that builds until you can barely stand it. my stories? expect a whole lot of smut, angst, and unresolved tension. i don’t take requests, but don’t worry, there’s always something in the works. i love multi-member stories, but i’ve got a ton of single-member ideas just waiting to be written.
𝗪𝗛𝗢 𝗜𝗦 𝗠𝗬 𝗕𝗜𝗔𝗦 𝗜𝗡 𝗘𝗡𝗛𝗔?
jake’s got my whole damn heart (the man is chef’s kiss), but i also love jungwon a little too fucking much. let’s be real though, i’m a sucker for all of them—but yeah, jake and jungwon? they own me.
welcome to my chaotic, steamy world, where the fantasies never end, the smut's hotter than hell, and no one in my real life knows how deep this enhypen rabbit hole goes.

Heiress is logical to a fault (we'll see more of that later) so she has to be someone logical, lacking empathy, goal-oriented and lax in breaking the taboos. not sure if such people would even do those tests xD
🔺 RED TRIANGLE POINTED UP — does your oc know how to use any weapons?
she has a sword of black metal, and it looks too used to be ceremonial (despite being notably cared for, it's visibly damaged) but no one had ever seen her wield it
🚫 PROHIBITED — does your oc drink/smoke? do they do it regularly, or is it more on occasion or for special events?
no one ever saw the Heiress consuming anything. occasionally, there's a silver goblet and a crystalline decanter on her desk, but no one ever saw her take a sip. likewise, no one ever smelled smoke on her
🍎 RED APPLE — where was your oc born? do they still live in/around their place of birth or do they live somewhere else? how do they feel about their birthplace?
she was born in a place far away in both time and space. but she is too practical to miss it more than a minute once a couple of years or so. she knows she cannot go back anyhow, so she abandoned the memory, mostly. in her head, there's no point to grieve something which will not be back
💘 HEART WITH ARROW — what and/or who do(es) your oc consider the most important to them?
efficiency. she is utterly, completely, absolutely dedicated to perfecting efficiency of slaying HoT. you can call her speerdunner for trying her best to shave off weeks of time and even single gold coin off each week to make it better. luckily for inhabitants of Hamlet, she knows that healthy and mentally stable (or at least relatively stable), fed people fight better than starved, sick and dying ones, and money spent on gear is the money she's not getting back if they die down there.
RRR!Reynauld:
🐈 CAT — does your oc prefer a wide circle of friends or a few close friends?
Rey believes he has a big social circle, and that he's close to a lot of people but the key word here is "believes". In actuality, he's clammed up and all those people see what he tries to sell as the "ideal version" of himself, instead of actual him. Rey is actually extremely lonely, and is in an uphill battle of trying to convince himself that he's fine on his own. Dis was probably his closest confidant, and knew a lot of dirt Rey wishes he didn't.
can't say it's all on him, though. he was close to Barristan and now is close to Sir Jolland and "proper" heroes. he's also close with the abbot, to everyone's detriment, and the abbot saw the amazing potential of isolating him and making him an attack dog on all "improper" in the town
🧡 ORANGE HEART — does your oc tend to prioritize family or friends?
since Rey doesn't have family (in his own head), friends win by default xD hell, the man admits, he loved his horse more than his son. my Rey ain't a good dad...
😥 SAD BUT RELIEVED FACE — is your oc prone to getting stressed out, or is it easy for them to keep their cool?
Rey is all about appearances, so he would try his damnest to appear cool, collected and composed even when he's yelling and losing his shit on the inside. it takes a lot to crack his mask. but he's an increddible worrywart underneath it
RRR!Dismas
🎶 MUSICAL NOTES — what type of music does your oc like? do they listen to music very often?
Dis likes ditties and "silly" music - what we would consider burlesque, cabaret or the like. he wants to have a good time, not to feel too dumb to listen to a song
sea shanties and rhytmic, repeated music makes him fall into melancholy and quietness because it reminds him too much of prison "call&response" songs he had to listen for way too long and even be a part of to not be torn apart by chains
🔱 TRIDENT EMBLEM — can your oc swim? do they enjoy swimming?
as someone who had too many people attempt to drown him, Dismas can swim, and swim rather well. what's more, he's more used to swimming in clothes and with added weight than naked. he enjoys swimming but usually too busy to do it for fun, not to mention, he hates cold water, so it limits his options
💛 YELLOW HEART — how many languages does your oc speak? what language(s) are they learning, if any?
he knows his native tongue, and whatever equivalent of english anyone in DD are speaking + shards, bits and pieces of the languages from the countries he travelled through (mostly the most basic of levels and cussing)
🍸 COCKTAIL GLASS — what is your oc's favorite alcoholic drink, if they can drink?
any alcohol he doesn't have to pay for :D

Of course!! Sorry for the wait this took me a long time to type up.
Firstly, welcome! Glad to have you here!
Secondly, this is gonna be a long post so I'm going to keep it under a read more.
Thank you so much for asking! I hope you enjoy! And feel free to ask about anyone
Demon characters across all stories -
Dayzel: he/him, trans/pan, ice/shadow demon hybrid. Dayzel is a bit of a han solo type rogue. He is very charismatic and flirty, with *severe* trauma. He's got mommy issues like crazy, and has had a long string of toxic exs. Was married to Nox for a while. He also worked as a hitman for hire with Rupert when they were dating. And then worked for Berkley for a while kidnapping victims for her. Later is a stay at home Dad while Mibium (his eventually husband) works full time.
Beth: She/her, cis/lesbian, ice/shadow demon hybrid. She is Dayzel's estranged younger sister. She's very prim and proper, until you get to know her and she loosens up. Then she becomes much more mischievous and playful. She's a bit reckless and incredibly stubborn, but ultimately is a good person, despite her past mistakes.
Cole: he/him, too young to know labels, electric demon. Beth's son who is adopted by/raised by Dayzel and Mibium.
Cindy: she/her, cis/bi, true shadow demon. Dayzel and Beth's mother. A truly ferocious woman who wanted "the best" for her kids. Toxic to everyone but Lucian. Was killed by Dayzel when he was 17.
Lucian: he/him, trans/straight, ice demon. Dayzel and Beth's father. Very laid back to the point of neglect.
Rupert: he/him, cis/gay, fire demon. He is also pretty charismatic but in a different direction. Think wolf in sheep's clothing. He's not as smart as some of my other OCS and much prefers brawn over brain. But definitely not a himbo. Runs a criminal gang of assassins and hitmen for hire. Mostly other demons.
Octavian: he/him, cis/bi (masc preference), poison/shadow demon hybrid. A demon aristocrat. A bit of slimeball but everyone loves him or at least pretends to because they're afraid of him. A collector of "fine" things.
Marley: they/poi, nonbinary/panromantic/asexual, poison demon. A chemist specializing in poisons/their own venom. They are very passionate and care deeply, but are a bit of a social outcast. Deeply, deeply craves connection.
Rain: he/him, trans/bi, touch/shadow demon hybrid. Very work focused and detail oriented due to his relationship with Berkley. Very low self esteem. Very little memory aside from living with Berkley. Incredibly lonely... This man needs a hug and a raise.
Reigns: he/him, trans/gay, true shadow demon. He is a "scientist" who works in Richard's lab. He's mostly muscle and sometimes an experiment himself though. He's very kind hearted, but is put in a place where he can't always abide by this. Ian's actual father figure and mentor for many years.
Jane: she/her, cis/bi, touch/shadow demon hybrid. She is a very gentle soul who has seen way too much. She's very laid back and relaxed most of the time, but does get anxious quite easily, especially when it comes to her family. She has no memory of her early childhood and was bounced from home to home the majority of her life. Married to Phoenix, and mother of Dee.
Phoenix: she/her, cis/bi, succubus. She is very... Passionate in a lot of ways. She tends to have a lot more of a temper than her wife, which can get her into trouble sometimes. She works as a secretary. She also streams games in her spare time.
Dee: they/them nonbinary/pan, touch/succubus/shadow demon hybrid. They are still a teenager, but they have a good head about them. Having picked up Phoenix's assertive nature, and Jane's levelheadedness. They can be very reckless at times and don't like listening to authority. They can be very stubborn, but what teenager isn't. Incredibly empathetic.
Dare: they/she/he, genderfluid/bi (feminine preference), true shadow demon. They are Jane and Ian's parent. They are a very gentle and empathetic soul that was thrust in a very bad relationship. The king of hell, alongside Richard. Just wants to be a dad in peace... Living out the cottagecore dream with their partner Mindy.
Richard: he/him, cis/gay, mind demon. The king of hell! He's very charismatic in the sense that he is powerful... But has the personality of a wet paper bag. He is very self centered and selfish to a certain level of cruelty. He's Ian's real dad... But definitely not a good one.
Ian: he/him, cis/bi (feminine preference), mind/shadow demon hybrid. He's got so many daddy issues it's not even funny. He's very quick to temper and struggles to express genuine emotions. He gets overwhelmed easily. He can be gentle with those he cares about though, such as Talon and Ryan. He is pretty suave and very good at manipulating people. He's the secret prince of Hell.
Talon: he/him demiboy/unlabeled, mind/shadow demon. A young clone of Ian that is being raised as Ian's son. He's very curious about the world around him and loves asking questions. Very friendly most of the time, but can be shy if he's already overwhelmed.
Ryan: he/him, trans/gay, true shadow demon. He is sweetie with a, albeit mischievous, heart of gold. He loves to cook for his friends and family. He's very introverted and enjoys the simpler things in life. Takes on being an adopted father to Talon with Ian.
Ash: he/him, cis/gay, touch/??? hybrid. He used to be Ian's best friend. They grew up in the lab together. They had a falling out though. He is very affectionate, sometimes to an uncomfortable degree.
Past: he/they, demiboy/demiromantic/pansexual, fate demon. He is the storyteller of the fate siblings. He is the most sociable and approachable of the siblings. Also, the least outwardly cruel.
Present: they/he/she, genderfluid/bi (masc preference), fate demon. The ambassador of the fate siblings. They are very work oriented and don't really take time for self care. They are easily the most cruel, but have a "work" persona most people like. Old friends with Nox, and they have a *massive* crush on him.
Future: xey/xem, agender/aromantic/asexual, fate demon. The prophet of the fate siblings. The most anti-social of the fates. The oldest and "leader" of the triplets. Xey consider Dare to be xer only true friend.
Isaac: he/him, cis/gay, true shadow demon. A bit of a sleezy guy. He is still powerful, and have influence, but is not well liked. He doesn't mind too much though. He has Luc to torment.
Luc: he/him, cis/pan, fire demon. Ironically has very bad luck. Is very hotheaded and snarky. He tries to be there for others as best he can, but has a lot of his own issues to deal with. Ends up lonely a lot of the time, aside from Isaac.
Zeke: he/him, cis/bi (feminine preference), electric/shadow demon hybrid. A bounty hunter in space in the far, far future when Humanity/angel/demons have taken to the stars. He is another roguish type. Very introverted and spends a lot of time alone. Though he warms up for those he cares about.
Angel characters across all stories -
Berkley: she/he/it, demigirl/demiromantic/demisexual, reaper angel. She is a bit of a mad scientist type. She is also a bit of a social recluse aside from a select few. She is very smart, but very socially inept. Collects teddy bears. She has a very large garden and does a lot of different crafts.
Mindy: she/he, genderfluid/bi (feminine preference), reaper angel. She is like... A feral raccoon. She does not have a lot of social skills due to her past. But her partner, Dare, very much doesn't mind. They can be very sweet at times to those they care about. A bit of himbo.
Mibium: he/him, cis/gay, guardian/healer angel hybrid. He is very much himbo, and a gentle giant. Unless you piss him off, then you're fucked. He deepy, deeply loves and cares about people. He works as a high-school French teacher. His students are convinced he's not human, but don't know what he is. He's a very popular teacher. He's very sociable, if a bit awkward.
Nox: he/him, cis/gay, touch demon/cupid angel hybrid. He is incredibly vain and self-centered. Used to be married to Dayzel, and best friends with Rupert. He is a coward and does not handle being under pressure well.
Omen: he/him, cis/gay, reaper/light angel hybrid. A space bounty hunter in the far, far future. Rivals with Zeke. He has a *massive* crush on him though. Another gentle giant type.
TTRPG characters -
Nom: he/him, trans/pan, Gnome paladin/barbarian. He's my PC that I play in @icyheart-and-friends's DND campaign. He's got a heart of gold but has a lot of trust and self esteem issues. He's a writer under a pen name. Kinda-sorta dating a god? Incredibly loyal and empathetic.
Jax: he/him, trans/bi (masc preference), Tiefling Paladin. He's my PC that I play in @emmettland's DND campaign. He is a soldier that has befriended the king he serves under. Very friendly and the life of the party. Bit of a flirt. Very firm in his moral code. Sees his fellow soldiers as family that he cares deeply about.
Sebastian: he/him, cis/bi, Human. He is very determined, but a bit of a scaredy cat. He woke up in a castle with no memories, and has to keep fighting monsters to get them back. (Castle of memories TTRPG). He's an artist and very kind hearted.

This has been done a million times before and no one asked but I decided to rank the songs from Nerdy Prudes Must Die.
Let's go Nighthawks!
Tumblr media
15. Cool As I Think I Am
I actually do love this song but when I listen to the full album, it’s one of only two songs I sometimes skip. The sound of it is very sweet, just like Pete, and it’s a great song to establish his character and his conflict in stepping outside his set social role (also props for originating the “I’m not a loser” refrain that repeats several times throughout the show to great effect). It’s just maybe not as exciting as the rest of the songs on the list.
14. Bully the Bully
Very catchy and fun, and the “cool beans” verse holds a special place in my heart (as do Grace’s little spins). Half the fun of it are the (very cute) dance moves which makes this song a little less effective when just listening to it. I love the guitar riffs and hearing all the nerds teaming up and happy for the only scene in the entire show.
13. Bury the Bully
I don’t usually prefer the shorter reprise but this song is too unhinged for me not to love it. Some highlights: Grace’s immediate acceptance of the situation and detailed knowledge in disposing of a body (and the casual “how else he gonna fit?” like she’s not suggesting something absolutely psychotic), “oh god, she’s snapping again”, Ruth coming around faster than the rest of the nerds because she’s apparently only slightly less unhinged than Grace, the discordant slamming on the piano keys after every “hack all his limbs off”.
12. Dirty Dudes Must Die
Would be much higher if only it were longer. This was the heel-face turn I was waiting for and Angela absolutely kills it, the deranged energy is off the charts. Grace singing “who will pray for you” and pointing at the audience gives me chills as does that final “run”. It feels like another story is just beginning.
11. Go Go Nighthawks!
I love all the sounds in this song - the beats that sound like lockers closing, the school band drums and trumpets, the jocks grunting and the “caw caws” from the cheerleaders. They add so much and convey such a strong sense of the setting, a must for a show that doesn’t really have any sets lmao. Also, fuck Clivesdale!
10. The Best of You
This song is just super cute and it makes me happy to listen to - Lautski own my entire heart, I can’t help it. Many have pointed out the Disney channel sound of it but it also reminds me a lot like those mid 2000s pop punk British boybands (think McFly and Busted) and I think that was deliberate with the British accent Joey and Mariah put on a couple of the lines. Anyway, I love how overwhelmingly bright and happy this song sounds, because it almost rounds back to sinister as you just know this can’t be the end of the show - we don’t get endings this happy in Hatchetfield!
9. Just For Once
This is the other song I sometimes skip but only because it’s five minutes long and such a character piece that I’m not always in the mood for it. Lauren blows me away with her ability to perform in character. That switch from Ruth’s amateur acting in the verses to the more sincere chorus is so beautiful. And that ending, oof. “I used to dance”, gets me every time.
8. Hatchet Town
I love a good mob song and this is an all time favorite for me. The Hatchetverse has been successful in establishing a multitude of interesting side characters that make the world feel lived in and that really pays off here; the song works if you don’t know most of the characters but it’s so much better if you do.
This is the first scene in the show that expands the story outside the school and the characters there, and it makes the danger feel all the more pressing, especially with how frantic and sinister it sounds. It’s also endlessly quotable; in a way, aren’t we all Dan Reynolds (with Action News, weekdays at 10 PM)?
7. Dirty Girl
Seems like I’m a much bigger fan of this song than many but I could never resist a musical theater song about sex. I love how weird and gross this song is while also containing some masterful lyrics. I love this bizarre look at sex through Grace’s warped, sheltered worldview. Most of all, I love that this is the first time we hear the line “will you pray for me” in the show and every time it appears after it’s in a wildly different context.
6. Cool As I Think I Am (Reprise)
This song makes me cry and I’m not afraid to admit it. It's the way Pete starts the song being so brave and so gentle as he convinces Steph to make an impossible choice, how they come together in the middle of it, finally completely honest with each other about their feelings, and how at the end the song slows as they’re both overwhelmed by the tragedy of the situation. “I’d have to let you go” let me go curl up and cry for a week, maybe.
5. High School Is Killing Me
A killer intro (heh). This is how you set the mood for a show! The slow start with Richie and Ruth is perfect and then the beat kicks in and I ascend to a higher level. A really strong aspect of the songs in this show are the harmonies and we get some incredible ones here - they sound so good together. This may also be the catchiest song on the soundtrack.
4. The Summoning
Oh my god this song!! First the intro with the chant, the trio’s bright voices underscored by the creepy whispers in the background, and then the descent into immediate chaos as soon as the Lords enter. I guess this is more of a “theatrical” song in that it’s not really something you listen to out of context of the musical but it works so incredibly well in context. Hearing all five of the lords together and taunting our protagonists is so insanely good. And I love how this song works musically, too, with the guitars and drums in the louder parts almost battling it out with the piano in the slower parts. Jeff Blim really popped off with this one.
3. Literal Monster
God, the foreboding atmosphere in this song is unmatched. The incredible build-up to our antagonist, managing to make a believable threat out of a cliched high school bully. Kim Whalen belting “He roars, and we cry” lives rent free in my mind. And then Will Branner shows up and lives up to every single expectation instantly.
2. Nerdy Prudes Must Die
Extremely basic opinion to think this song is great (the real unpopular take might be that it’s only number two) but what do you want me to say? That the similarities to the Halloween theme don’t make me wanna clap my hands with glee? That the music and lyrics don’t both absolutely slap? (“Will you pray for me” I will give you my entire life actually) That Jon Matteson belting “I’m not a loser” might not be the single greatest moment in the entire show? This is why they invented musical theater. I will take no further questions.
1. If I Loved You
Look I am Lautski trash, I will fully admit that, but this song is also just a bop. It’s the most fun song in the show to sing along to, by a mile. It is young, stubborn love boiled down to its most entertaining bits. It is two people almost coming together but missing each other by a hair and that hair is having too much pride to be the first to admit you’ve got a crush. This song has drama, it has fun, it has two characters vehemently denying their feelings for each other while insisting the other only deserves the best. “Don’t need a lover boy, need a lover man” marry me, Mariah Rose. How about that? Also, Joey Richter’s improvement as a singer has been severely underappreciated and this song shows his voice off perfectly.
I am ranting but that’s because I cannot coherently express how much I love this song. In a soundtrack filled with nothing but hits, this one hits me right in the heart.

Note
And then maybe 👄 from the emoji prompts to soothe the pain! Please and thank you!
Hello! Thank you for the ask!
I know that it's supposed to be headcanons, but I think it would make more sense in writing format.
WARNING: This is a "what if" idea. It may or may not make the cut into the actual story. I'm just tossing around ideas.
This was so fun to write!

1943
It was another weekend for Easy Company, and fortunately for them, they had weekend passes. Aldbourne was a charming town, and the locals were warm and welcoming to the Americans. The pubs in the area were a cozy and intimate setting that Easy Company enjoyed visiting in their spare time.
Claire was sitting on a stool at the bar, talking with Eugene and observing her fellow paratroopers. The atmosphere in the pub was lively, with the sounds of laughter and conversation filling the air.
Most men sat at tables or booths, talking and joking with their friends. Some of the bolder ones even started mingling with the local ladies in an attempt to impress their buddies.
As she sat there, Claire couldn't help but eavesdrop on the conversations closest to her. Her curious nature and enigmatic personality made it hard to resist the urge to listen in. Claire observed her fellow soldiers with a mischievous glint in her eye. She knew she had the power to make them question their own assumptions and desires. It was part of her charm, this ability to hold her cards close to her chest and leave them wanting more. Yet, she remained quiet and introverted. And she liked it.
As the night went on, Claire continued to converse with Eugene and her other close friends. However, she felt a weariness growing within her. She had been up early and would be required to rise at the same hour the following morning. Although she had indulged in a single drink, she rarely, if ever, drank, preferring to maintain a clear and focused mind, and she had her reasons to. But that didn't stop her from going out and having a good time. Claire lived life on her own terms. She didn't conform to societal norms or expectations and valued her privacy and independence.
"Alright, I'm heading back to my billet. 'Night Alley," she said as she hopped down from her seat, knowing that Eugene would accompany her. They were practically inseparable.
"'Night Claire," he replied.
As she made her way towards the door, following Eugene, she heard a commotion that piqued her interest.
She turned her head towards the noise and soon found its source - Liebgott, Talbert, and Grant.
Knowing Talbert and Liebgott, she knew it was most likely about her.
Determined to uncover the truth, she stood there silently with her back towards them, absorbing every word they spoke.
"I'm tellin' you, Grant, you just gotta do it," Talbert shouted, "Before someone else swoops in and takes her out from under you."
Grant chuckled nervously and ran a hand through his hair. "I don't know, Tab. I can't figure her out. She's elusive and mysterious, yet I can't help but feel drawn to her.
Liebgott smirked, leaning on the table. "That's what makes her so damn intriguing, ya know? It's like she's got this magnetic pull on all of us."
"Yeah, but you see how she is; she doesn't give any of the guys the time of day," Grant murmured, leaning in closer. "She keeps everyone, except Doc, at arm's length. Maybe I'd just end up embarrassing myself."
Talbert threw his arm around Grant's shoulder and grinned mischievously. "Look, buddy, you never know until you try. Besides, what's life without a little risk?"
"Exactly, Grant, she keeps everyone away EXCEPT Doc," Liebgott pointed out, taking a sip of his beer. "You've been dancing around her for over a year now. It's time to make a move before another fella steals her heart. And by fella, I mean Doc. Claire isn't gonna wait around forever.
Claire felt her heart start to race. Staying true to her character, a slight grin crept up on her lips as she suddenly came up with an impulsive idea that would turn heads and keep people wanting more.
She turned to Eugene, "Gene, I need to do something. Frankly, I'm tired of those three, and I think they need to be taught a little lesson. You might wanna look away for this."
Claire walked over to the trio, her head held high. As she approached them, she stared straight at Grant, cupped his face with her hands, and kissed him right there in front of everybody.
The room went silent. Talbert, who was taking a sip of his beer, sprayed it all over Malarkey, who was standing next to him at a different table. Liebgott started choking on the cigarette smoke he accidentally inhaled out of shock.
Claire looked around the room, satisfied, and tipped her head to the men, "Boys."
She turned on her heel and walked away and out of the bar arm-in-arm with Eugene, leaving everyone in a state of shock.
Grant stood there still as a statue, eyes wide, his gaze fixed on the spot where she once stood. His cheeks were bright red, his eyes glazed over, and dark red lipstick smeared across his lips.
Talbert started waving his hand in front of Grant's face, "Grant? You okay there, buddy?"
"I think he's in shock," Liebgott stated as he, too, started waving his hand in front of Grant's face.
"Hey, Tab, next time, say it, don't spray it," Malarkey grumbled, wiping the beer off his face.

Till Death
AN: So, I just finished Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover and it inspired me to write this story. Just a heads up... if you don't like Shadamy don't read. I'm not usually writing about these two so this is different than my usual content. They're a guilty pleasure of mine. ;) Listen while you read!
Chapter 1: This life Without You
(Amy's POV)
Every now in then I will sit in our bed, staring at the ceiling, thinking about our beautiful children we made together. How they are living life without you, just as I am. I would have never imagine you'd go first. You died doing what you loved, though. Died as a hero. I have to remind myself that constantly. I guess I should have expected it. You have came to so many close calls before. But, seeing our oldest daughter trying to process the meaning of death. She's eight-years-old now, and she's slowly understanding it. It's heart shattering. We decided to have you cremated, we spread some of your ashes and ever since then all I could see is our daughter's teary eyes watch them as they fall. We had a stuffed toy made for our younger son with your ashes inside. I kept a ring with your ashes inside the stone. It's been 2 years since your passing. Most of everyone we know has mostly moved on, excluding Tails. I haven't actually slept in our bed since your passing. If I'm in our bedroom, I just usually hug your pillow and try to savor your smell. I tried so hard to wash it out. It still smelled like you, and that's why I can't sleep in here. After about 10:30 I get up and start my day with a cup of coffee. The house is eerily silent, our children went with your parents, and Uncle Tails to the beach. They deserved it with school starting in a couple of weeks. I'm trying my hardest to get back into routine now that the kids are going to away from home more.
Cream and her mom still runs their cafe in town, and they're gonna have me work there. I need to get out of the house, anyway. Cream will be starting her own career soon. She surprised me as she grew up very interested in fashion, and over the years with her mom's help, she landed an opportunity to purchase a spot to design and sell her clothing. I never felt so proud. Since she'll be away finalizing some paperwork with her mother, so I'll be working with some other employees instead. I stand before the closet and sighed. It's been 2 years. You've got this, Amy. I pick out a white top, with the uniform provided for the employees. It's just a simple blue apron with the emblem of the company's name "Vanilla's Cafe". I positioned my name tag near the front pocket.
I left the porch light on in case I have a later shift. I lock the front door, fix my purse strap on my shoulders, and hold my coffee tumbler close to me as I make my way towards the cafe. The cafe is located almost at the end of street, it's an adorable little building. Suits Vanilla perfectly. I hesitate at the door, before Cream rushes towards me, and embraces me tightly. I embrace her just as tightly. "I'm so glad you showed up, Amy!" Her gaze was apologetic. "We shouldn't be too long," she squeezed my hands. Understanding that I haven't been in the work environment since Sonic passed away. "Alex, and Clarice will be there to help. Ciara should be in soon too." I didn't say much, just nodded and gave Vanilla and Cream one last hug before they hurried over to a nearby taxi. Immediately, the smells of cupcakes, cookies, and coffee is overwhelming to my senses as I step inside. Alex is the first one to greet me, and help me find a spot in the back to put my belongings. Clarice greeted me once she finalized the customer's order. They're both wonderful company. They ask which task I prefer to do. Cream must have told them I have been out of work for awhile. I ask to keep up with inventory, restock items, and clean. After about a slow hour or two, the customers started pouring in as I was cleaning off a table. We got a phone call from Cream that everything went well finalizing the paperwork, and payment. However, they discovered some electrical issues, and wasn't sure how long that would take. We were all doing well, by ourselves, but I know Cream and her mother felt awful about abandoning them at the cafe. After the phone conversation, we continued on handling orders, I was able to take care of some costumers at the register, while another employee took a restroom break and Ciara handled a big to-go order.
It's been about 6 hours that I've been at the cafe, I was told by Ciara to go to my break. I actually felt hungry for a change. I finished sweeping under the booth nearby, then she took over willingly. We each had 30 minutes, unless we were running slower than normal. Ciara encouraged that I take a longer break if needed. I grabbed my purse, and stepped outside. Looking down at the various shops nearby. A diner caught my eye. It was one of Sonic's favorites. I hadn't been in years. I don't think I can handle going in there. I stop in front of the door. Hesitating, to go inside. It's torture. I see a sign with hot dogs topped with every topping that I could think of. The sight of it made me sick to my stomach. I shook my head, and I pushed myself to open pull the door towards me and walk indoors. Nothing had changed about the diner. Same smells, same workers, the only difference was some of the decor. I picked a booth near the entrance. I sighed in relief. It's a step forward. A familiar waitress came up with a big smile, "Good evening! Just one menu?" She kind of looked confused, I guess she remembered Sonic and I coming here often. I felt a lump in my throat.
"Yes please. Can I have a water?" I asked, before she handed me the menu, and some utensils rolled up in napkins. She nodded, and went towards the bar while I looked over the menu. The first item I noticed was of course the well-known chili dogs that Sonic loved so much. I didn't eat them very much, but I loved making them for him at home and his excitement when he came home to a good handful of chili dogs. When the waitress came back, I asked for a chili dog, with no jalapeño or onions, and a side of steak fries. The waitress actually looked shocked; I'm sure she remembers I would mainly order a salad here. She went back to the bar, and gave the cooks my ticket. I sat back and waited. Feeling antsy, I got up and fiddled with the boombox to find something. Sonic always liked rock. I picked a random playlist, and played it on shuffle. It played Fortunate Son by Creedence Clearwater Revival. As it played my feet tapped along with the beat, while I opened my bag and retrieved my phone to see if there were any missing calls, or text messages. I only saw a few from Tails letting me know how there kids were. I opened one text message that had an image attached to it. Before the picture, Tails had texted:
Mach got stung by a jellyfish. He's ok! He handled it like a pro. It looked really nasty so we took him to ER. got him some painkillers to relieve the swelling.
I scrolled down, and noticed he sent me another about two hours ago,
You doing ok? How's work?
Of course he was worried about my wellbeing. Always did. I went to type a message back.
It's going well, I'm on break now! I respond with a heart emoji. I notice the bar on the bottom of the message box spin, until it shows delivered. I put my phone aside when I hear the waitress come to my table 10 minutes later with my food. I thanked her and stare down at my order. I munch on the fries, not daring to take a bite of the chili dog just yet. Memories of Sonic sitting with me, at this diner come flashing back to me. I could picture Sonic enjoying his meal, messy as ever, napkins and napkins piled on his side of the table. I was always so disgusted by it, but I missed seeing that messiness. Back at home, I was use to random clutter (he called it his hobby), but after his death, I had to hide all of that clutter of his. I felt like I was cleaning after him constantly, but that's what he got for marrying a neat freak. Although, he would do his best to keep the house tidy when I had a bad day, or was under the weather. I was so grateful for that. Since his death, the house hasn't been as tidy as I typically preferred. It didn't feel the same anymore. I shook my head, and turned my focus back on my food. I probably need to get back to work soon, anyway. I glance at the time on my phone. I have exactly 25 minutes before my break is over. I know I shouldn't worry, but I didn't want them having to pick up for my slack. I finally managed to eat my chili dog. It was okay. I didn't understand Sonic's fascination with it, but it was edible. The waitress' timing was the worst, as she approached the table after I dabbed a napkin at the corner of my mouth wiping off any chili remains. "Do you need anything else?" She asked, "we have several dessert options if you like?" I shook my head no, "It's so nice seeing you-" she paused, "it's Amy... right?" I forced a smile and a nod. "Where's your fella? I hadn't seen him in ages!" She exclaimed, as she took my empty basket of food, and refilled my glass of water. "I remember all the times he'd-" I interrupted her my eyes met hers. Her lips formed a straight line, as if she shouldn't have said anything in the first place.
"He died." I hate saying those two harsh words. I probably sounded so cold towards her; when I didn't mean to. I felt my hands shake, and my eyes sting. No. We agreed to not cry today. "It was all over the news, was it not?" More words formed, dry, and cold. I looked down. I couldn't look at her. I shook as I reached for my phone, and put it in my purse.
She swallowed, "I'm sorry... I -" she backed away, when I stood to my feet. I didn't realize I was even standing. I felt sweat pouring down my forehead, she went to put a hand on my shoulder, but I made a beeline to the bathroom. I vomited my lunch, and then when I composed myself. I started to sob over the bathroom sink. Grief is funny like that. It hits like waves... one minute you're fine, you're listening to his music, enjoying his memories, and then... you lose it all. There was a knock at the door, it was the waitress. The thought of her asking more stupid questions made me want to throw up again. I leaned against the bathroom wall.
I can't do this thing called... life.
Not without him.
But... I have a family to think about. Our children. I had to push through for them. I had to remain strong. I swallowed, my throat felt like it was on fire, I took a deep breath, and fiddled for my phone in my bag. My hands still shook as I struggled through my contacts. I stared at the name "A-hole" a pained smile spread across my face, Sonic must have gotten my phone and renamed Shadow's name to A-hole. He never did ask why his number was in my contacts. Shadow and I kind of formed a friendship, if you can call it that. He was honestly very comforting to me after Sonic passed away. Despite his demeaner.. I knew deep down he cared. My finger hovered over his name, hesitating. I could just call Vanilla, couldn't I? Or someone from the cafe, even. Even Rouge... something tugged at me to call him though. If he didn't answer. Fine. Rouge was next on my list. I meant to send him a text, but my hands still shook so bad so I just called him. Each time it rung, I felt tears start to stream my face again. I shouldn't talk to him. I don't think I can even talk. It rung several times more, and then there was a pause. "S-Shadow?" I managed to get out, in a shaky tone.
"...Rose?" He always called me that. I didn't mind, of course. I grew accustomed to it after so many year; I stopped correcting him. I breathed out in relief, and cried.
"Can you come get me?" I slowly make out these words.
"Where are you?"
"Diner... in town. " I couldn't even remember the name of this damn diner. I couldn't even recall the name of the street it was on. There was silence on his end, so I responded with a "please." Shadow didn't answer back, the phone call was dropped. My heart sunk. I'm not sure if he would actually come, or knew which diner I even meant. I slapped my forehead, and brought my knees to my chest. Normally the thought of being on the floor of a restroom disgusted me, but I didn't care. There was another knock, I believe it was the owner. He was concerned. "Ma'am? Are you alright?" I wanted to answer with no, but I remained silent. I blocked out their voices by covering my head with my hands, and continued to cry. I was feeling so many things right now that I couldn't keep track what they were. The phone ringing scared me to pieces. I jumped and saw Shadow's number show up. I blinked back the tears. He told me he had arrived. "I'm in the restroom..." I heard a commotion going on, and his voice to confirm he was at the right location. I pushed myself up, and wiped away more tears. I tried to wash my face, but my face still looked pale, and my eyes were bloodshot. I forced myself to open the door, outside stood the owner, and the waitress that served my table. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Shadow walking towards my direction. He looked me over, his expression unreadable. I looked away, avoiding his gaze. "Can you take me home?" He didn't say anything, shrugged and angled his head toward the door. He lingered long enough for me to pass him out the door. The waitress gave Shadow a ticket, but said the bill was taken care of. Not that paying for my meal was a concern at the moment.
I was shocked that Shadow didn't ride his motorcycle. Sonic never did understand why he got one. He was "almost as fast as him" Sonic would clarify. Shadow walked alongside me the entire way to the end of the street. "Did you just leave work...?" He finally spoke. Oh, shit. I forgot. I paused when we reached a crosswalk. The light was still red, so we had to wait. I asked him to text Cream on my phone. He blinked in confusion, but seconds later he did as I requested. This was the longest walk to my house. He didn't ask any questions, but he kept glancing my way. I just kept glancing at the sky, after we left town. The sun was setting, and I always loved watching it. Sonic would always watch it with me outside on our porch. I gave a sigh. We reached the front door of my quiet home, I fiddled with my keys, and opened the door. I was disappointed that no one welcomed me. I dropped my belongings on the bar and hugged myself. Shadow just stood at the doorframe when I slowly made my way deeper in the kitchen. I took off my apron, and grabbed a bottle of water. I hovered over the sink feeling my eyes sting even more. Shadow slowly inched deeper in the house, closing the door behind him. "Are you okay?" I saw him kind of wince like he shouldn't have said that.
I took a sip of my water. "I... I will be." I say this as if I'm trying to convince myself more than Shadow. I wiped at my eyes, I slowly glanced over with a weak and forced smile. "You don't have to stay, Shadow.." I leaned against the counter. "Thank you." There was a silent acknowledgement from him. I didn't see him make his way to the living room.
"Where's the spawns?" I jumped back into reality, when he spoke after minutes of silence.
"You mean... children?" I raise a brow.
"Yes."
I needed to sit down, so slowly made my way into the living room with him, and laid down on the pillow that rested on our sectional couch. "They're on vacation with their grandparents, and Uncle Tails."
Shadow glanced over, looking me over again. "But, you stayed home to work?" I couldn't tell what he was getting at. So, I just looked at him. He shrugged.
"Rouge says you're the one who works too much." He stayed silent before he scoffed. Before long, nothing was spoken between us again. "Shadow." His ear twitched in attention, "please speak... this house is way too quiet nowadays.." I sunk deeper into the couch. Closing my eyes, trying not to cry again.
"You didn't tell me what happened at work." I felt him sit at the end of the couch.
"I... it didn't happen at work. Work was fine!" I dramatically responded, "I ate at that stupid diner... " I swallowed my words, "his favorite diner." His red gaze locked with mine for a moment. "Ate his favorite food. Damnit. I should be over him after two years. Shouldn't I?" I didn't really want him to answer that, or think he would. I finally sat up, and hugged a pillow close to my chest.
"You never do." He could see the confusion on my face, so he elaborates. Shadow glanced away, "you never get over their death." I probably look dumbfounded to him. "Do you think I don't miss Maria still?" It felt weird hearing him speak of her. He rarely did anymore. He had moved on, and continued to follow her wish and lived his own life. He face furrowed. "I never knew you could cuss."
This earned a smallest grin from me, "does that bother you?"
"Hell no."
"I didn't think so." I gave a sigh. "I just assumed I would feel better by now. I usually pick myself up pretty quickly." I glanced at the clock, and then back at Shadow. "I loved him so much. It's like a piece of me is gone..." I wipe at my eyes again. Here we go with the water works. "I hate this house now. It makes me think of him. Sometimes... I.." she swallowed, "when I see our children I break down." I grab a handful of tissues, "I hate how clean it is in here! I hate... life without him, Shadow. I really do." I finally stood up, and walked in the kitchen, trying to compose myself. But, feeling his gaze on me doesn't help. I silently sob at the kitchen sink.
My ears prick when I hear his footsteps. He's leaving me. He's gonna walk out and leave me alone in this quiet house, with just the sounds of my sobs. I feel a hand on my shoulder. I turn around. I feel more tears sting, not in grief but relief that Shadow did not leave. I want to hug him. "I shouldn't be saying all this... you didn't even like him." I stubbornly respond, with a uncertain smile. "Heck, you probably hated him. You're... probably glad he's dead." I don't even know why those words escaped my lips. It even shocked Shadow. I immediately want to apologize. He's been so supportive this evening... and I'm being a bitch about it.
"...He was annoying, but I'm not glad he's dead." His eyes darted from me, to the floor. "Sonic gave me more chances than I deserved, Amy. Hell, I even tried to destroy -" Shadow pauses, I can tell he is so mad at himself for that mistake. "he didn't deserve to die the way he did." Shadow hesitated about going on. "You didn't deserve to watch him die, neither." Shadow paused again, unsure of what to say next. He always struggled with expressing his feelings. Just like the blue blur. Before I could control myself, I buried my face into his chest. No tears escaped, this time. I just wrapped my arms around him. A single tear fell down my cheek.
"You didn't deserve to watch Maria die, either." Maybe I shouldn't have said that. I know he doesn't like to think of that day. I don't understand all what happened. Maybe he didn't hear it. I sorta hoped. "I'm sorry." My voice shook, and I went to pull away but stopped when I felt his hand on my back. Like he was sort of accepting this embrace; if you can even call it that.
"Thank you." Shadow hadn't heard anyone say those words to him. They always blamed him, or his creator. It was nice to hear someone actually was concerned about all that he witnessed that terrible day, and how that would affect him. We both distanced ourselves. I hid my blush from his gaze. "You look exhausted." The heat in my cheeks went away. Ha, no kidding. "I should let you get some rest." My disappointment must have been noticeable, but his eyebrow raised slightly.
"Don't leave. Please." I must sound really bipolar. An hour ago, I was hoping he'd leave so I can cry myself to sleep. But now, I can't imagine being alone. Shadow looked awkward now. "Just for tonight... I can't be alone.. right now." My ears went flat.
"Okay." Was all the dark hedgehog said. It was enough to ease my concern. I gave him a thankful look, and then encouraged him to sleep in the spare bedroom. If he even sleeps. Sonic always said he didn't sleep. After getting my pajama's on, and my teeth brushed I come in the living room. I gave him the remote, "If you wanna watch tv... that's fine." I collected my sheets, and comforter and settled on the sectional. I wasn't sure if Shadow stayed in the living room, or hid in the bedroom. I did hear the television moments later, and then I was out like a light.
The next morning, I woke in my bed. I sat up quickly. Went to the bathroom, and washed my face trying to make sure I was actually awake. I went downstairs to find someone on my sectional. It was Shadow. He rolled to face me, and sat up. "You didn't look comfortable... so I took you upstairs." My mouth formed an O shape.
"I hadn't been able to sleep upstairs.." I muttered. Shadow didn't say another word. Like, he knew how it felt. "I... what time is it?" I couldn't recall whether I was gonna need to go to work or not.
"Just before noon."
"I'm surprised you stayed this late." He could hear the sound of gratefulness in my voice. "Uh... you want coffee? Because I need it."
"I fell asleep." Shadow shifted slightly, "Sure.."
"I didn't know you even slept." I laughed slightly, as I started gathering a coffee pod for us and pressed my preferred brewing setting.
"Sonic said that didn't he?"
"Yep."
"I don't require sleep like everyone else. I can go a whole week or more without it."
"How did Sonic know you didn't sleep?" I pestered the black hedgehog. "You two have a slumber party that I didn't know about?"
Shadow looked at me, disgusted. "No. We were on a lookout for Eggman. He noticed I hadn't slept."
"Code for slumber party." I whisper. Shadow gave me a stern look.
"I like this side of you, better."
I blinked. "What?"
"Your sarcasm." He raised a brow, and stood to his feet. Making his way over to the kitchen. I noticed he looked slightly shorter. He had removed his shoes. I handed him a cup of coffee. "Who says that was sarcasm? You two could have had a slumber party, and you just not admit-"
"Hush." Shadow surprised me when he covered my mouth with his hand. "I take it back. I like the cursing side of you." There was a small grin that I saw forming on his face.
"Fine. Asshole." I pushed his hand away, and muttered the insult under my breath.
I encouraged him to sit with me at the small table as we finished our coffee. It was odd having his company here. Of all my friends, I had chosen to call him last night. However, I realized his company was exactly what I needed.
