I was so excited to get this song because I knew exactly what I'd write for it. And then I opened the Genius page and learned that IT'S ABOUT DAVEKAT?? HELLO??? ITS A HOMESTUCK FAN SONG??? ALRIGHT, SURE. But to me, it's about Corazón/Prudence from Oxventure, so that's what I wrote XD

Prudence wasn’t charming in the archetypal way, not the way that Corazón could lie to anyone or how Dob’s cheery smile could convince anyone to go along with his plans. She was just so abrasive, stubborn with a blunt, off-putting way of speaking. People shied away when she smiled too wide. Prudence was perfectly capable of lying to the best of them, but it was easier for her to knock someone on their ass with Eldritch blast.

Or just kill them, also with Eldritch blast. Usually, she went for killing them, which was also why people were hesitant around her.

Despite it all, the menacing look and the fierce words and the lack of care for other living people, Prudence was magnetic. She had the most infectious laugh that Corazón had ever heard. When she was being sweet, she couldn’t look anyone in the eye, and it was the only time he ever saw her flustered. If he asked, she would let him braid her hair, and she took his cosmetic suggestions with grave importance. He thought about her relentlessly. As far as he was concerned, everybody should.

“What are you thinking about so hard over there?” Prudence asked, pulling him from his reverie, and Corazón realized that he had been staring. He jolted, his elbow slipping off the railing of the ship, and Prudence braced him before he could trip over himself. “Easy, landlubber.”

“Oh, come off it,” Corazón huffed, shrugging her off, and she rolled her eyes at him. She was smiling enough that he could catch a glimpse of one pointed fang and even though it was getting into the evening, he felt warm all over. “Lost in thought. How are you feeling?”

“Not drunk enough.” Prudence tossed a glance back at their guildmates, who were doing their best to completely wreck the deck of the ship. Corazón kept anything that couldn’t be strapped down beneath deck, like any reasonable sailor, so they weren’t succeeding in much besides seeing how many times Dob could mend the ship’s wheel in a row. “Come on, let’s get back to the party. I want Merilwen to get so trashed that she’ll wrestle me as a bear.”

“Well, I gotta see that,” he agreed, as enchanted as ever with Prudence being far too excited about violence.

No, she wasn’t charming like how people always told him he was charming. Corazón was sure that whatever Prudence had going on ran much deeper, ingrained in the way that she carried herself. Corazón was charming because he talked pretty. Prudence was charming because she was Prudence.

She peeled off, back to their friends, and he followed. He didn’t have any other choice. It was a part of who she was, who he was, everything they had going on. Prudence had a gravity about her that drew everyone in, even if every single of of her traits screamed ‘red flag!’ Corazón was caught in her orbit. He didn’t need to explain it further than that.

My artstyle uses alot of mid tones so remember to get all your mid tones set up before cross hatching. Then after hatching, use contrasting colors, the lightest one as light, and the darkest as shade. I usually go for green n purple, or orange and purple

Alright so I thought there were like, Other Kids than the main eight- they just didn't matter or anything to the plot yk. Because you see. I thought the trolls were like... npcs in sburb. I heard the term "patron troll" and was like oh!! Each kid gets a troll to guide them! Alright hell yeah!!!

So basically I thought the trolls would have the role the sprites do, guiding the kids and showing them how the game works (while being stupid and cringe. Cuz. Yk. They're kids.) I didn't match any kids to any trolls other than Karkat and Dave because I figured that'd be why Davekat is so popular, and I also decided that Vriska had an unimportant kid

I had heard she shoved someone off a cliff so I thought she shoved the kid she was mentoring. She didn't wanna just be a guide, she wanted to be IMPORTANT and a HERO!!!! So she shoved her kid off a cliff and took their place in the story.

I also (for some reason) assumed that not everyone could win the game and THATS why so many characters die- like. It's a competition and you gotta kill the others to win. Like. Danganronpa but without trials. You're just fucking killing each other. Wait no that's more like hunger games. Yeah hunger games but with aliens and robots

I also assumed Betty Crocker would be built up to and battled in Act 5, while Lord English would sorta hang in the background and be faced in Act 6 (I didn't know that Jack Noir was. Even a thing. Imagine my surprise, when I assumed betty crocker was gonna be the first villain,)

I ALSO assumed that John was gonna like. Pull an Evangelion and make it so everybody can make it through sburb and be happy. Like "I don't want to hurt people for this stupid game I want to hang out with my friends" and just. Flips off the narrative he's gonna go chill!!!!! And he's taking the npcs with him they should be able to live outside the game too!!!!! Fuck lord english he's gonna go play minecraft. Kinda like the ending of psycholonials now that I think about it

this is the most homestuck thing i have read since homestuck.

act 1 of kgtac is completed, and is the main draw here. act 2 is currently ongoing and is pretty much completely unrelated to act 1. i think it's alright. but act 1 is absolutely a must-read.

do i even need to explain this one? it's detective pony. it's a great character study of dirk. i'm sure you've all heard of it. if you haven't read it, go do that now. please.

hsmtw is a readthrough/analysis podcast whose goal is not to analyze homestuck on its own terms, but to challenge it and put it back into its historical context. it's not the easiest to listen to as a homestuck fan - the hosts are very critical at times, and i don't always agree with their opinions on things that happen in homestuck - but i think the analysis about what homestuck does, tries to do, and is responding to is very important, especially for people who weren't there for homestuck's original run. which... includes me! i read homestuck in 2014. i missed most of the most important homestuck historical moments. in any case, hsmtw changed the way i look at homestuck and other media. highly recommend, at the very least for understanding homestuck's historical context

Epilogues: Haven't read them, thought they were tragic.

HS2: Haven't read them but I've heard enough to assume i have. It's not good.

Pesterquest: Ironically, this was my first introduction to homestuck back in 2019. I remember really liking Mallek Adalov and Elwurd. I've recently watched the Dave and John routes of it, but I haven't watched all of them! I don't have enough to form an opinion on it but i watched all the fantroll stuff. ^o^

I think HS2 and Epilogues at least deserves credit by putting jake into a situation (VAGUE) that I believe he would be in. I can see him getting in over his head over being the worlds most famous god. i think it would just follow him unless he decided to fuck off and make an effort to disappear from the public eye.

We did not need a graphic description of Dirk killing himself. LAME! This has probably been said before but Dirk HS2 isn't even Dirk anymore. I don't care, he hated himself and feared himself he wouldn't.. be *that*. Boyfriend put it well, "Oh alright, the guy whos known to have a few screws loose knows he's in a fictional story . wonder where this is gonna go this sounds so neat. oh. oh he's transphobic now .. oh he's. forcing people to say things they normally wouldn't feel safe saying to make himself feel better oh. ok." Dirk would leave the planet. Not to play god, but to destroy himself. To protect his loved ones and believing isolating is the only way to.

It also turned into something that dirkjake abuse claimers could cheer about. They did Davekat dirty. The only sort of interesting thing I liked was how bitter Dirk was about him and Jake that he was willing to break up the one other green and yellow gay couple to further his plans and it could've led somewhere interesting.

They did Jane dirty. And i hate it. I hate the people who wrote Jane. I hope they burn. Understandable she'd be a person taking charge and not some cottagecore lesbian but if anyone would be a xenophobe it would be Dirk. While I can see Jane becoming isolated from her friends because she is serving life itself, i think it would've been an interesting point to see jane strive to battle that inherent loneliness.

I like the idea of the kids relationships falling apart (guns raise). It's an interesting point, and I feel like it could have branched out on the alphas who i found so incredibly appealing for the fact they were messy. (guns lower) I like the idea of the kids breaking apart because of awkwardness and the fight to fix it and not surrender to your inner demons, in a realistic ways. Just not how the epilogues or HS2 did it.

I have a solemn and actual idea how I could *fix* the epilogues and it would make it better, but maybe that's for another ask.. maybe. (hit up my ask box go on.) The epilogues introduced a LOT of good fucking concepts, but on a whole sucked, and I feel like they were cheated on their potential. I have so many ideas on what could've happened to the alpha kids. none of them were realised properly in HS2 or epilogues.

Also these designs fucked. Shame the content was so ass.

possibly the funniest thing that has happened to me was when i was like 11, at the birthday party of one of my mom's friends, and was upstairs in the bedroom of one of my moms friends kids (important context: everyone there is latino so the downstairs party was pretty intense)

there was like 5 kids there, (may or may not be including me and my sibling i can't remember) so me and my older sibling were talking to 2 boys there because they were basically the only other people we could talk to.

one of the boys took my tablet at some point, it was alright because it was all good fun, but then he goes under the bed so i cant get it back.

then he starts looking at my gallery, and went through some albums that weren't just the basic photos or screenshots, it was alright i guess because the albums were pretty average, there was like art i liked, and a homestuck album of random fanart because that was the first year i was into homestuck, but then he found this one album i had, titled stuff.

ok ok tangent here, at the time i did not know that i was internally a silly guy, so i just looked like an 11 year old girl with some silliness, but mostly normal, the only thing he knew about me was that i drew art.

that album... was not just average stuff you woukd expect to find in an album titled stuff. it was an album with 251 images i compiled of davekat fanart because it was (and still is) a comfort ship, i titled it stuff because i was scared my sibling would think i was weird for having an entire album dedicated to davekat, even though LITERALLY NOBODY WOULD EVER WANT TO LOOK THROUGH MY ALBUMS, RIGHT?

now imagine being an 11 year old boy, stealing a tablet from some weird girl you have only had like 2 interactions with, looking through the albums expecting to see not much, maybe like screenshots of anime because this girl draws or whatever, and finding an album filled to the brim with gay fanart.

my sibling alerts me that he found a homestuck album, he starts laughing, i start freaking THE FUCK OUT out internally, because one of the fanarts had dave and karkles chilling on a bed and blushing because it's wholesome (it was a fanart koroke did) and he might think its GAY PORN.

then literally nothing happens, he just laughed a bit and then i got my tablet back so it was all alright.

i hope whoever found this post enjoyed reading this because it's the funniest shit that has ever happened to me, and for some reason i only remembered it today.

Ive only ever read Homestuck and never even touched the epilogues so forgive me if I'm missing something, but in homestuck doesn't Dave state multiple times that he has no interest in troll romance. I don't really understand davekat at all given that there's multiple panels with the two explaining that they clearing want different things in a relationship, let alone different types of romance. Dave didn't even want to be with Terezi after she started her blackrom with gamzee anf I think that's an important part of Dave as a character. He grew up in an inherently isolating environment that he outright states makes it hard for him to connect with people. Where we left in homestuck he was figuring out navigating just normal friendships really so I don't even understand the appeal to shop the two. Sure, they have some cute moments together, but from my point of view there's no version of the two that could be in a fulfilling healthy relationship together.

Sorry for the rant, I recently re read homestuck for the first time in years and came back to tumblr to see what was going on in the fandom. I know that davekat has always been a popular ship but I assumed by this point in the fandom most of the people left would've actually *read* the source material. I know the epilogues kinda go hogwild but... Like come on

It's alright. But yeah, Dave stated that he has no interest in quadrants or want to be part of any troll poly relationship. My guess is that once Post Retcon timeline happened thanks to John, people assume he would be accepting of quadrants or that he and Karkat will be monogamous relationship just like how Kanaya is married with Rose. It just makes it all the more strange then he started acting happy and merry with Karkat just because VRISKA saved his sister from being a complete depressed alcoholic. You would think he would spend time more with family/friend that he had always wanted to see. But I guess Rose is too busy making out with her lesbian girlfriend to give a shit, so why should he bother her? Seems like the morals for Homestuck and the fandom itself is friendships and family don't matter. It's all about who fucks with who, but not actually fucking because sex is a no-no, even if they are legal age.

11. Least favorite kid?

Jake. I know he's thematically important but he annoys me so much 😭 I can't help seeing him as a source of tension in his friend group, despite the fact that he actively despises their romantic advances. I used to dislike all of the alpha kids, but the other three have grown on me a lot. I don't think I actively dislike any of them anymore, but Jake is difficult for me to really enjoy as a character.

12. Least favorite troll?

Tavros. I know, I know, it's absolutely horrible that the Vriska fan dislikes Tavros. Again, I don't actively dislike any of the trolls, Tavros just fails to captivate me. Everyone else I've had phases for. Tavros? Well. He never really got a chance to make anything of himself, which is mostly the narrative and Vriska's fault, but as a result, he's just a difficult character for me to enjoy.

18. NOTP?

This is a difficult one!! I don't interact with a lot of ship content for pairings I don't like, so I've actually forgotten any more niche pairings I don't ship. The most popular ships I dislike are probably DaveKat and DirkJake. I have my reasons for them both, but it mostly comes down to the fact that a lot of times, when a pairing gets popular, bad content for them becomes really prevalent and difficult to avoid.

I used to be a DaveKat shipper around the time of Homestuck^2, but most of the content I see for it feels really out of character -- even in Homestuck^2 itself, I was just really starved for content. Another thing that contributes to my dislike of this ship is a huge rise of people getting into the fandom just to ship DaveKat. The "yeah I skipped to act 4, got bored, and went to AO3" sort that DaveKat tends to attract. Not a criticism of the ship itself, it just makes it unpalatable for me.

I think it's in part because, when you refuse to see your favorite pair outside of the context of shipping them together, they lose a lot of what makes them individuals. I see this for most ships, but particularly very popular pairings. DirkJake is the same for me, plus their canon relationship is really . . . less than ideal in a way that I don't care to imagine salvaging because I don't enjoy Jake as a character.

Alright, one TWO more that I just remembered from the earlier days. JohnDave. To me they're friends! Very good friends. Best bros, even. I love to imagine their silly and wicked cool antics, I don't like to imagine them together -- which is really ironic, actually, because I found out what fanfiction was after googling something related to Homestuck for an essay I was writing for fun, which, of course, led me straight to some JohnDave.

FINALLY, EriSol also used to be a NOTP . . . ECIP actually started out because I was asking myself the question: how can I make these two work? Now I am, for better or worse, a bona fide EriSol shipper. It's not the worst thing in the world!

31. What do you think of the ancestors?

I don't think they were explored enough for me to have a big opinion on them. In my opinion, they were most important to canon in how they shaped the trolls. For example, Mindfang's role as a role model for Vriska, and how these historical figures shaped the FLARPing and relationships of their ecto-offspring. They also provide a lot of historical context for Alternia, but I honestly can't see them as characters in and of themselves.

Just the human's freaking out, and then Karkat's freaking out, and then when Gamzee goes to fix it it gets worse for some reason. It's not like the little squishy motherfuckers count as quadrants. So who knows what the big motherfucking deal is. Dave's boyfriend brings around his other boyfriend, and Dave has an educational experience on the subject of quadrants. It goes alright. Except the guy's a handsy dick who doesn't speak basically any English and wears clown makeup. And Karkat seems to be making some kind of romance power-move at him to prove a point. And Dave's dripping blood all over his favorite pair of sweatpants.

He's content to believe that they're all up to no good, but when Dirk shows up and throws a wrench in his plans, he might have to reevaluate his opinion on them. And maybe, just maybe, realize some other important things along the way.

The humans have taking the bloodcaste and have based the worth of a troll after it. The higher the blood of a troll is the higher the price for that troll is. Being a mutant in this society makes him not only worthless to other trolls but to humans as well. Dave Strider is in search of a troll after turning 16 which is the age when a human can buy a troll. He goes to the market and buys Karkat. After they bond his feelings grow more red for the nubby horned troll but he isn't sure how to fix the scars left on the outside and inside of Karkat from his past to get the troll to see that Dave isn't going to hurt him.

Alternate universe. In this world, there was no Sgrub session, and a few events from the human space age have happened earlier, but these are only minorly related to the plot. After a failed Alternian invasion of Earth, humans managed to turn the tide and end up winning the war, and enslaved the entirety of the Alternian people. John decides to purchase a troll without being fully aware of the reality of the situation, instead believing much of "common knowledge" instead, and realizes the reality of what humanity has really done and tries his best to cope with a language and cultural barrier and create an environment for his new troll to live in.

But some plans have changed, how will they resolve?

Karkat is a breeder troll, a fate to those who were previously seen as freaks and culled. Now, being born with bright red blood makes him destined to give birth to grubs in place of the extinct Mother Grub. He resents and rebels against his fate. He finds an old decrepit castle which he makes his home and eventually turns it into an orphanage. But trolls were never one to take differences lightly and are determined to put Karkat in his place. They won't take change lightly, especially in times of desperation
