You ready for the most niche thing ever but hey this is what we do here you just have to bear with me as I take 3,000 years to get to the point because learning more about the repeal of Britain's Corn Laws in the 19th Century the more it's just a microcosm of that oh so blessed North American Triangle of Britain and America making deals and Canada going hey wait a second dynamic. Poor Mattie playing second fiddle at... nearly every interaction involving these two.

So. Corn. The Corn Laws were passed after the Napoleonic Wars by Britain to keep prices high for domestic producers, of course making lovely profits for landowners, rather than the farmers who actually grew the stuff. It also prioritised colonial grains, so Canada got a boon with its wheat and flour. Nice example of Mercantilism right there.

The problem wassssssss by the 1840s you have the Irish Famine, food prices are too gosh dang high, no-one has disposable income because factory owners are cutting wages wherever they can, and it's so blatantly obvious that this system only profits the top 10% of British Society. There's no shortage of food, it just costs too fucking much. Ireland is starving and the government is sitting on their hands being useless.

A lot of pressure later, Free Trade is favoured over Mercantilism, and the Corn Laws are dropped. Britain can start importing wheat, barley and other cereals form the cheapest supplier: the US. This is not coincidental that the main MP pushing for their repeal - Richard Cobden - was a massive fan of the USA, doing a lot to try and get the two countries to be friendlier to each other. He subscribed to the 'the more economically entangled you are with another country the less likely you are to fight them' which... has its truths.

So... cheap bread good? So that's one thing.

EXCEPT Canada got completely screwed over since they had gotten priority for any externally grown grain for most of the 1840s - causing a bubble in their market. So when the Corn Laws got repealed and it was open season to the cheapest supplier much of Canada's businesses went bankrupt and following series of unfortunate events semi related to corn people burnt Montreal's Parliament and the capital moved to Toronto and it gave yet another push towards Confederation in the 1860s.

So that's a second thing.

It also kind of screwed over the domestic UK farming industry as the age old 'why buy domestic expensive if foreign cheap?' came into play and another wave of emigrants move to the US and the Dominions in the second half of the 19th century because being an agricultural labourer ain't what it used to be (like 100,000 of people with those jobs 'vanish' from the census within ten years, going to the city of abroad). The fact that, compared to 1830 where Britain imported just 2% of its grain, to the 1880s where it was 45%, (65% for wheat)... Uh-oh.

So that's a third thing.

ALTHOUGH, this did have another side affect of ensuring Britain could not get involved in the American Civil War like okay yes the South was very much banking on the need for cotton to push Britain to intercede but psych! The working class people of Lancashire are braver than any Confederate solider and refuse to work with cotton picked by enslaved peoples and would literally rather starve. Especially as, at that point 40% of the wheat people ate came from Northern US states. What's more important? Bread or cotton?

So... that's a fourth thing.

Well, I can tell you he'd react very much like most would when confronted with a person that shares a passion. Geek off!

And I mean, full on nerd-mode. Like, you ain't ready for that waterfall of words and the "talking for hours!" Without even stopping for a breath. And yeah, pretty dang right I'm just the same, so ...

And if you didn't know or forgotten, which I doubt, cause no side of that man is forgettable at all, *eherm* ok back to the subject-

He has this 'cat/puppy on zoomies' enegry sometimes. Like, he can go all silly and boundless energy, like a rubber ball. Once it hits good, it bounces to the ceiling!

But then again, Mags is a VERY cautious man. He doesn't just trust anyone and not even close to easily. He's very wary, sceptical and scrutinizing when it comes to people in general who aim to poke into his closer circle. He's complex, and he wants to be 100% certain he can trust somebody before he even considers opening up. Which, yeah, has everything to do with him being a ptsd baby, but boy can I relate. So, bonus points if you understand trauma.

Magsy also has a deeper way of feeling, viewing things and thinking, so, in order to truly be able to connect with him over anything, even a shared passion, one should be a deep-thinker feeler too. Basically means, be a HSP- highly sensitive person.

Doesn't mean he cannot get along well with someone who isn't. Only means he won't ever be able to fully geek off or go full on comfortable mood. Because that's just what happens if two people are not 100% on the same wave lengh. It'll work only for that long before it'll exhaust each party.

Another thing, Mags doesn't allow hardly anyone into his lab. Has it's reasons, believe me ...

Furthermore, even though, he enjoys sharing his passions and the things he does, alchemy for example, he does prefer to work alone. Not only does he hate being disturbed when in hyper-focus - and he does that perfect - once he is in that mode, he can hardly focus on anything else ( selfexplanatory right?) Basically, he does his thing and he wants to do his thing.

The whole "apprentice" thing is a different matter, cause then he could supervise someone. Simple really. Like a teacher teaching his students. Doing the teaching his way. Wouldn't want another teacher to put their hands into his work unless he asks for it and wants it!

Now what would happen if someone came with 'supernatural' abilities?

Back in the days? He'd be like HECK NO! either have this person be removed from his kingdom as FAR as possible, or, keep that person under lock and key and have them be watched 24/7 until he is 1000% certain they are no danger. And even so, he'd not trust them completely.

Today? First figure out where the power comes from. Given by God, good, pass. And then he'll have this person eagle eyed for quite some time still. Because it is his job as king to secure the savety of his people. And yes, he's still a bit anxious. Naturally. So, trust is built, trust is earned.

ngl I'm curious about your ideas for Venture and spaceranger. I saw a theory SR could be Fio from Blackwatch and I think Venture could be our Portuguese hero, maybe has a build (turret, wall, etc) made of duravidro. Still hoping for heroes 42 to 45 being Lynx 17, Maximilien, a Roman champion fighter, and an Afro-American New York firefighter.

Okay lot of parts to this one to answer

Starting with Venture, here's their art for reference:

Now, with their pretty apparent explorer/excavation-themed design, with giant drill and what looks like climbing/excavation gear on their back, my first thought for what map they tie into is actually Petra, the deathmatch map set in Southern Jordan's wonder of the world. The map is littered with details alluding to an ongoing excavation project, so I think Venture could be part of that team. Plus, I think the slightly darker skin tone could possibly fit an Arabic character.

While I can't make it out with just this little image, I think the insignia on this sleeve could be the key to figuring out this character's faction.

As for kit, I don't really have any great ideas yet. While their drill at first appears to be a melee weapon, letting you just drill into people for rapid close-range damage, but I feel like it could have some kind of surprise projectile component.

In addition to me thinking they're from Jordan and not Portugal, I also doubt they're a "builder" character due to those being an ongoing struggle to balance in the Damage role. My belief for what Esperanca is alluding to is still a Tank hero that we won't be seeing for a while. Considering how long it takes heroes to be developed (note Mauga was just revealed today after being first teased in 2019), I think something as relatively recent as Esperanca won't lead to something new so "soon".

(I actually have a character for my original hero/class shooter project War Bots who uses a drill in a couple ways, and they are actually a builder character who uses it to build buildings and also tunnel underground to move around safely. They deserve their own post soon though.)

Going from underground to out of this world, let's talk about "Space Ranger" next!

(I gotta say it if I haven't already that I love both of these designs, even if they're still certainly still concept art and might actually change a fair bit before release, especially in the case of Star Command here releasing all the way in the far off galaxy of Season 12. Still, very cute, love the colors and overall vibe, big fan.)

So starting off with the theory you saw, the idea that this is Fio, the Blackwatch pilot from Retribution, certainly is... interesting, certainly an idea with precedent if Sojourn is anything to go by. I didn't remember what they looked like so I checked the wiki and...

...Yeah no these are completely different people, sorry. Fio has what looks to be red hair underneath the helmet and... I wanna say a European face? Ranger meanwhile has the dang Twilight Sparkle hair, and her face strikes me more like how East Asian characters tend to look in Overwatch's art style, like D.va and Kiriko with their slightly more "anime-esque" faces. Not to say I wouldn't welcome Fio to the roster (even though they'd be. Far, Far from my first pick for an established character to join the roster), but this definitely ain't them.

As for who I do think this could be, or rather what characters they're related to, I think between possibly being Asian and also being more obviously space-themed, I think they could very likely be affiliated with Lucheng Interstellar, the Chinese aerospace company behind Horizon Lunar Colony. According to the wiki, they also have other space station projects they are/were working on, so Space Ranger could be related to either of those.

As for kit, I don't have much to say for them either. Some neat ideas I saw were that they could be another hyper-mobile support like Mercy or Lucio, and could possibly even have some sort of gravity-manipulating buff. I really don't have much to say yet, but there's plenty of room for cool ideas!

Speaking of cool ideas, lemme take a sec to go over all yours!

Lynx 17 is definitely a popular pick I can get behind, between their fun design and the capacity for a support hacker-themed character. My Sombra Role Requeue was just one way to take the concept, I feel like there's even more room to start from the ground up! Though I do also wanna shoutout Franky, a character from the Deadlock Rebels novel that was essentially the other main founding member of the gang along with Cassidy and Ashe (and B.O.B. too, of course), who's also a hacker. I don't blame people for giving Lynx 17 higher priority, both due to being around longer and also being another cool Omnic, as well as being canonically non binary already. I would like to see a human NB character sooner than later, (hence why I've been referring to Venture and SR gender-neutrally this whole post) but Lynx still slaps so I'd be happy to see them too.

Maximilien is I think probably the most notable lore character that's yet to be playable now that we've finally got our greasy mitts on Mauga. Another fun established design and personality who's been around the story even longer than Mauga actually. Shoot, we've even seen the bastard in one of the story trailers, with Doomfist implying that he's got a job to do that the greedy omnic seems uncomfortable with. That could easily mean he has to get his hands dirty when he doesn't want to, so... could be teasing him being playable? My main objection to his inclusion on the roster is that I don't have a great idea for what exactly he'd... do. He's basically a cowardly civilian who just happens to be bankrolling a terrorist organization. This could definitely work into his kit, making him a support who sucks in direct fights but has ways of backing up allies. The one solid ability idea I got for him though is that his gun would be a silenced pistol. that's it. Now obviously some creativity on the hero design team's part could fix that issue, but still, it's something to consider.

Now for the characters who aren't as established, a roman gladiator is another one that's been tossed around a lot since the map was first revealed. Like I said with a character teased by the Portugal map though, OW heroes take a long time to develop, and they're still catching up on established characters like Mauga, so the teasers from OW2's new maps could take a WHILE to get to at this rate. Which isn't shocking really, they wanna keep Overwatch going for a while and I personally can get behind that, so I understand them setting up so many teasers they can follow up on later. As for the gladiator specifically, this idea still hasn't actually excited me that much. I struggle right now to think about what could make one of the mech gladiators unique from the tanks we already have on the roster. A melee weapon and shield? Reinhardt. A spear? Orisa. Again, creativity solves a lot of problems, but it's why I've never been that excited for this idea since Colosseo was first revealed.

That last idea though, THAT has me interested.

I've honestly never heard that idea before! It's so cool too, a firefighter would have such a fun pool of ideas to work from. Overwatch doesn't really have any water-themed heroes, and as far as I'm aware the team hasn't considered it aside from one rejected concept for what eventually became Lifeweaver. I'm honestly not even sure what role would fit a firefighter better, because the bulky outfits and some kind of water pushing ability would fit Tank, but the whole "life saving" part could fit Support better. This is such a cool idea, I'd honestly love to hear you elaborate on it more!

So yeah, wanted to give a thorough response talking about all of these future heroes, confirmed and otherwise. I'll almost certainly have more to say tomorrow when they talk about the two new faces, but that's for 20 hours from now. Thanks for the ask though, fun to talk about all this!

Say he had a villainous plan that day, but he couldn't risk his day job, the boss was being extra rude and made him work, so now he's running late for a bad guy team up, but at the same time the local heroine was also at the place he worked. They both fumble in their frantic need to leave to tend to their duties, bumping into each other as they are rushing out.

Awkward apologies and rushed lies about why they are in such a hurry to go. He doesn't make it a habit to interact with the patrons/customers of his jobs, but dang if this one ain't worth all the risks of them finding out who he really was, but he can't tell them. He can't do it. He doesn't want to disappoint, and it pains him.

(Bonus points for being touch starved 👍👍)

ADDITIONALLY, somewhat related to your thing:

Say he also doesn't know who the heroine/hero is, but he's heard them laugh and giggle and snort and cough from his silly quips and comments during their fights.. but one day he's at one of his civilian say jobs and so is the hero/heroine in their own civilian attire (are they a regular? Having visited a couple times before? Or is this their first time trying out this place he works?).

He, being unaware, does his usual thing of making a free little show of tricks for an extra tip but something he does or says makes them laugh and.. ohh that sound is familiar, but it can't be. There is no way. The hero/heroine sitting/standing before him in his place of work? A bit of curiosity is piqued now, but he has to play it cool, low-key testing the waters of his suspicions to try and find out if they are who he thinks they are. (Does he want to know? Who they are under their own mask? Or does he respect their own need to conceal their face and indentity as much as he does his own?)

Imagine all the possibilities of this dynamic and the fun scenarios that could be made in or out of costume for either party.

Our innerworld is confusing af and most of the time you don't know where ya are, but I can relate to that “empty space” area, we got one as well in my subsystem's innerworld and that place is like top dangerous to anyone lower than a specific rank (yes my subsystem have an hierarchical structure, that's some messy shi). Maybe it's dormancy or like uhhh, they're parts of subsystems ya'll just aren't aware of and that's why you barely meet ‘em? Ik personally I can count on two hands the amoun’ of interactions I got with people outside my own group, which ain't little by any means. And I been here for at least like 2 years that I remember vividly.

Don't pressure yourself in it ‘rule, you'd figure it out eventually, and so long you ain't in like dangerous dangerous situation where stuff like roles and shi need to be decided quickly even if they don't fit ya for the long run, I think you should enjoy it. How does it manifest if ya tried using it? Is it like, for mental wounds? Idk shit about medical care honestly.

Good luck with the wood carving then g'mate, and be careful not loosin’ a finger, believe me even if back there it was easy and natural to ya, if your body currently doesn't have muscle memory with knives it's best being cautious than sorry. I speak from experience cause we almost lost a finger once from someone who tried making a salad because “I used weaponry all my life, a knife come to me naturally”. Motivation problems sadly is a thing, we have someone whose whole job is just raising motivation for writing and finishing it in case we don't cause of deadlines and shi, writing a book Series that takes over your entire focus comes with its costs ig. As for creativity, poetry comes in many shapes and forms, believe me that I speak from experience. If ya got nthing to write about just write about the trees and nature, or the skies and the sun, or literally anything from nature. You can write about wood carving for example, it's a topic ya like. Write about “carving your own life path” or smth like that. Dang now I'm inspired to write smth myself again.

Personally, I don't think source memories really comes up only when Fronting, but stuff vary from place to place so maybe for y'all ya need the mental stabilization of Fronting to remember stuff (going off the hook that was mentioned with your innerworld being pretty small and emptiness surroundin’ it). Anyhow, I personally think don't force it, it'll come on its own accord, and maybe ya just aren't meant to have any either, we got a couple like that too, and that ain't less validating than having memories from places. If it still bother ya, you can try triggering some of ‘em with influence of like a song or a smell or other stimuli that y'know existed in there. Like I'd give an example even. We got someone who we knew were a descendant of Atlantis people, but she couldn't remember anything for shit. What did she do? She constantly listened to ASMR of sea waves and bought candles that smell like sea salt, and eventually the memories came back to her. Personally ik at least some of ‘em weren't pleasant and she probably wouldn't have minded forgetting them, so make the decision for yourself if ya wanna try outside triggers or nah.

Oh man yeah I mean I could chalk him being able to see arajin's genie up to his spiritual awareness but I think when Evil Genie got him he must have been handed the gun and tried to shoot himself because he has that side fringe that would cover it so it wouldn't be immediately apparent and also he has the blue genie and it's tied to the image of his brother who is dying or dead and is probably his wish so like.

I'd say he tried to kill himself and made the wish.

And that's part of why he sounded and looked so fucked up when he got to Arajin's house before the sight of Arajin sleeping comforted him.

I'm so glad I started writing with you Clarke!! Fizzarolli is a character I really deeply care about, but it always felt like there was a disconnect between me and his voice... and meeting you and seeing just how incredible your portrayal is, how you had such similar ideas but with such cool and in-depth execution, just seeing how you really breathe life into Fizz and bring out sides of him I hadn't even thought about before... I think it kinda pushed me into embracing the fizzies more, if that makes sense? It's like... sure a double-anxiety was there, but it was like... I dunno, it felt Okay to let Fizzarolli go once I saw how amazing you were at writing him. I kinda needed it, to focus on what I'm good at instead. As Hel put it: being a robofucker-

I really feel like so many of our conversations really helped me form my own muses and who they are in relation to Fizz, I really can't state enough how important a Fizz is to, well... the fizzies. I'm sure I'll write with many other Fizzarollis in the future, but dang if you ain't one of the best I've seen so far

I really hope I put it into words how, in the lack of any other word, Cool it is to get to write with you. Even outside RPing, it's so much fun to just talk about whatever with you, you're so chill and nice and I really hope I won't scare you off with my never ending yapping. Fizzarolli and the fizzies are my hyperfixation and I just get so excited, and your Fizzarolli is, again... just so good.
