i wasn't sure if you wanted this to be modern!au or in the canon au, but i made it canon. so it doesnt EXACTLY follow the lyrics. but essentially follows the point of the song!! ALSO!! @sparkedblaze this is also for you because you are the reason i write for ikeshot <3

Hotshot couldn't help but stare. It made him sick to do so, but he couldn't stop. It was like watching a gruesome fight that you couldn't tear your eyes away from. Except it was Ike. His Ike. All bruised, cut, and bloodied; scrawled out pathetically on a hospital bed. He was all but disfigured. All but unrecognizable.
But often times he had this look about him, and Hotshot couldn't help but think he looked the exact same as he did before the accident. He would just look off into the distance, similar to how he used to look at the stars before everything. Occasionally he would squirm under his boyfriend's intense stare. But outside of that, he said and did nothing. He wouldn't move an inch until a nurse came to make him eat, or until Hotshot would force him to use the bathroom.
"We don't need ya kidneys to fail, now. You'se already been through enough."
It made Hotshot nauseous to take care of the boy. They had never been in this position before. Usually, it was Hotshot laid up with a broken bone or some odd illness nobody else got. And Ike was always right at his side. It didn't feel right when the roles were reversed. Not to either of them.
Ike was knocked out for a long time. The doctors and nurses started to doubt he would ever wake up. They had begun to prep Hotshot for the worst, not that he ever listened to them. All he did was sit, stare, and pray to whatever god was listening that his boy would wake up.
When he did finally wake up, the hospital was in a frenzy. There was a hushed, excited buzz about the air. All the nurses would linger by the doorway of his room and gossip about his 'miraculous awakening.'
The second his eyes opened, he was bombarded with numerous questions from the doctors. They were long, confusing questions that contained words that Hotshot could hardly believe were real. Ike was quickly overwhelmed. Tears teetered on the brink of his eyes and his breathing became rapid.
"Would ya stop pesterin' him for a second? He just woke up! What's wrong with the lotta ya? Huh? Ain't you supposed to be professionals? Let the boy breathe!" Hotshot yelled as he jumped to his feet. "He ain't just some medical miracle, alright? He's a person just like you 'n me. Give 'im a second."
One by one, the doctors and nurses began to shuffle out of the room. Each one glancing over their shoulders as they left. Hotshot could hear their gossiping whispers outside the door as he sat down closer to Ike.
"What's happenin'?" Ike asked. His voice was small, hoarse, and confused.
Hotshot furrowed his eyebrows and grabbed his lover's hand. "What'dya mean? Dont'cha remember? You was hit by one of them fancy new electric carriages."
Ike's initial confusion turned into a quick look of horror as he caught a glimpse of his bruised arms. "But... I'm alive right? I'm here? This is real?" The boy had started to freak out. He analyzed his arms, turning them every which way. He leaned forward, wincing as he did, and yanked the cover off his legs. It wasn't a pretty sight, and Hotshot had to stop himself from dry heaving just from seeing his boyfriend in such a state.
Gently, Hotshot pulled the blankets back over the boys legs. "You'se alright, Ike. For a couple of days there, I was worried. You'se was knocked out cold. But ya alive now. That's all that matters. You're alive." He wanted to do something. Squeez the boys hand, give him a pat on the leg... something. But he couldn't in fear of hurting the boy further. So, he just nodded and flashed him a forced, tight smile. "I think ya oughta lay down. You get yourself too worked up sometimes. It'll get worse if ya don't relax a little."
The other boy couldn't help but let out a laugh. He grabbed his chest in pain after he did. "Sounds like somethin' I'd usually tell you."
"Right." Hotshot rolled his eyes fondly. "Well, I reckon them so-called professionals out there are gonna wanna ask ya some questions. I'll make sure they go easy on ya, yeah?"
Ike nodded and closed his eyes as the other boy got up to let the doctors back in. He took a deep breath, once again wincing in pain, and prepared himself for the horror that would be the next few minutes.
Hotshot often felt ashamed when looking back on the day of the accident. None of it was his fault. He was often reminded by the Brooklyn boys that there was no way he could've known. But he felt as though he should've. That he should have seen the conjugation of people and he should've known. He should've listened to his gut telling him it was someone he knew. Someone important. Should've ran up and helped. But he didn't.
"It was a Tuesday, Hotshot." Spot had told him in the hospital. "Ya never could'a known. He ain't never come over to visit on a Tuesday. 'Specially not so early. Quit beatin' yerself up about it."
Even Mike had come and talked to him. Usually, they just sat there together in complete silence. But even Mike knew it wasn't his fault. "Listen, I know we ain't close but I gotta talk to ya about this. Spot told me what happened. That you'd seen the accident but didn't think nothing of it and..." He paused. Hotshot prepared himself to get screamed at. Berated for being an absolute idiot and not helping the others brother. But the ambush never came.
"It ain't ya fault," Hotshot continued. "Honest. Ya know I'd scream and kill ya if it was. Ain't no way you coulda took one look at the scene and knew it was him. Hell, I'm his twin brother and I didn't even get the sense that something was wrong 'till Scram came runnin' to tell the news." He sighed again and took another pause. "Even if ya had known. Even if ya had gone and tried to help, what could you have done? Huh? Ya ain't a professional. Situation woulda been the same any way about it."
Hotshot nodded. He understood them. He understood everyone who had come to talk to him. Deep down, he knew it wasn't his fault. But he couldn't stop beating himself up about it.
He relived the day in his head almost every single night. It was a normal Tuesday. Up as early as the birds, carrying the banner and collecting pity from people wandering the streets. He had seen the commotion early in the day. In fact, it had been right after he had bought his papers for the day.
It's far too early for this, he recalled thinking. There was always something going on in New York. Especially in Brooklyn and especially around the circulation buildings. Typically, it was a rough fist fight between two newsies, and at its worst it was a robbery of some sort. But neither of which would cause such a big commotion nor gathering of police and medical personnel.
Hotshot knew deep down something was wrong. He felt drawn to the accident, but he put it aside as his love for fights. Which is what he assumed it was. A big fight that got out of hand. Maybe one that had contanied multiple newsies instead of just two, or that had somehow gotten an adult of importance involved.
But he ignored the calling to the scene. He had a stack of papers on his bicep and they weren't going to sell themselves. Besides, the quicker he was done with work the quicker he could join Ike at Jacobi's. He hadn't even really thought of stopping to see what had happened. Just that it might be something interest, but not something he could be bothered to stop for.
Just thirty minute later, he heard Scram's pattering feet behind him. He turned quickly on his heel, looking down at the boy. He had a horrified look on his face and his cheeks were stained with tears. The boy began to speak, sputtering and rambling over himself. "It's- Ike- Well, he- It was a car- And-"
Hotshot's blood ran cold at the mention of Ike's name. The papers on his arm hit the ground with a thump and sent dust flying into the air around them. "Ike? What about Ike?" Scram began to cry again, flailing his arms and pointing behind him. Hotshot's heart sank. "Scram, spit it out! I need to know what happened!"
"There was an- an accident! He got hurt, real bad. Barely looks alive. He keeps askin' for ya! Ya gotta go! Quick! They're loadin' him into the ambulance!"
"Where, Scram? Where?"
Scram's face was red and covered in snot. "Right outside the circulation building!"
Hotshot's heart sank even farther, something he hadn't believed to be possible. "Listen to me, Scram. Listen good. You go run and you don't stop running 'till you find Mike, alright? You tell him everything. You tell Manhattan everything. Okay?" He didn't even wait for the boys response.
He abandoned his dropped papes as he sprinted as fast as he could back to the circulation building. As he arrived at the scene, he couldn't help but be angry. He pushed his way through the crowd, screaming obscenities and demanding they let him into the ambulance. Police tried to hold him back when he finally made it to the front.
"He's been asking for me! They told me he's been asking for me! I'm Hotshot! Ya gotta let me in!" Hotshot screamed. "His family's all the way in 'Hattan! Ya can't let him go alone! He'll be scared!" Before he could stop himself, he screamed: "Ya can't let 'im die alone!"
Upon hearing the last bit—and discussing the boys name, which the injured boy had been groggily repeating over and over again—the officers let the boy through. Hotshot climbed into the back of ambulance and gripped onto the other boys hand.
"Ya think I'm gonna die?" Ike sputtered out, blood covering his mouth. "I- Mike's gonna be so mad. He ain't gonna have no-one."
Hotshot realized what he had yelled previously and began to panic. "Nah, nah. Ya ain't gonna die, Ike. You'se too strong to, okay? I just said that so they'd let me through. That's all. You'se gonna be just fine."
"I'm scared, Hotshot. I'm really scared."
"Hey, don't say that. You'se gonna be alright. Don't be scared. I ain't! I know you'se gonna be just fine. Okay." But the truth was, Hotshot was horrified. He hadn't been so scared in his entire life. He dropped his voice to a whisper as he continued to speak. "Ya still look so pretty, ya know that? Gorgeous, Ike. Ya gorgeous."
After hearing Hotshot's whispers, the boy took a deep, choked breath and closed his eyes.
After Ike finally woke up, he often thought aloud about what would've happened among different circumstance. Hotshot hated hearing it. He hated thinking about how, if the situation had only been slightly different, Ike could've died.
"What if it had been on Thursday? Someone else coulda been drivin' it. Goin' faster, not have slowed down or stopped. Coulda taken me straight into the next life."
"Would ya stop that?" Hotshot muttered. His face was deep in his hands.
Ike paused for a couple of minutes before speaking up once again. "I coulda been on ya bridge. They coulda sent me straight over into the water. I don't even know how to swim now. Imagine it with broken bones..."
"Ike."
"I coulda been in that neighborhood where all them families lived. Some little kid coulda found me and not told anyone cause they'd be scared they'd get in trouble or something."
"Ike."
"If it had been winter and it was snowing or rainin'. And the car had skidded, lost control. Hit me full speed."
Hotshot had started to tear up and his composure was breaking. "Ike, please." He begged in a broken voice.
But Ike couldn't help himself. He was spiraling. "Or if I was on one of them backroad nobody goes on. Nobody woulda even seen it happen. If just a small little thing was different, I'd probably be-"
"Ike!" Hotshot finally yelled. "Stop. You need to stop. I can't keep doin' it. Can't keep listenin' to ya kill yaself in your daydreams. You're alive, okay? You're alive. So just shut up! Because there's no life, no reality where I'm letting ya die. Alright? Especially not at the hands of some rich idiot's fancy car. So just... stop."
Ike nodded, his voice small. "Sorry. I just... I'm just freaking out. I dunno if I'm meant to be alive right now."
Hotshot sighed. "Listen. You'se the great person alive." He sat down and gently took ahold of his boyfriends hand. "If anyone in this world's meant to be alive, it's you. Alright?" He kissed Ike's hand and wiped at his eye with his own hand. "You're alive, Ike. Don't think about anything else. We got a buncha years ahead of us. Don't worry 'bout nothin' else."

In games like mystic messenger and other games that are similar there is a certain route order that the fandom largely agrees upon. That order tells the story in a more coherent fashion from least intense to most intense or similar. Without giving away too much. No spoilers obviously. Will this game have an order, that will be more recommended?
Honestly not really! I'd recommend either going for your favorite character first, or just seeing who you end up with. As for intensity, I imagine that will be more subjective, although some of them do have more dramatic events at times. I'd be curious if there's a certain route order that emerges from the community. But if anyone wants a recommendation to start off with, here're a few options:
Are you interested in K and his story, even if it's only crumbs?
Brooklyn > Milo > Rory > Alexei > Leo > Tobias
Do you want to go by the order they were written?
Tobias > Leo > Brooklyn > Milo > Alexei > Rory
Would you like an arbitrary recommendation?
Leo > Tobias > Alexei > Milo > Brooklyn > Rory
Do you want to start off with possibly slightly less emotionally taxing routes (ymmv)?
Brooklyn > Alexei > Leo > Tobias > Rory > Milo

Au facts and scenarios. In no particular order! (I think!)
New Beginning Au:
- KC owns a soup company and gives a portion of his earnings to homeless shelters, orphanages, and charities who help people in need
- KC is a GREAT cook. The best in the family. You want a meal, go to him (his specialty is soup and pancakes)
- Lunar helps KC with cooking at times (mostly the desserts) since KC isn't as good with baking as he is with cooking
- The trio (Lunar, Bloodmoon, Eclipse) have some sort of admirers. Some people in the town think Lunar is cute. Some think Bloodmoon is cute in his own way. And the majority of the town thinks Eclipse is hot 😐
- During game nights, KC gets the place (the living room) comfy, placing blankets, pillows, and plushies around the place
- Before they left the pizzaplex for a new life, Eclipse gifted Lunar a raccoon plush. It's now Lunars comfort object (he sleeps with it)
- Bloodmoons side of his and Lunars room is hella messy 😭
- KC hosts events to help children/families in need
- The family helps out with KC's company and his events whenever he hosts them; Lunar serves baked goods to the public. Bloodmoon gives out food (like meat, vegetables, fruits). And Eclipse helps out with "little" things with the town, like plumbing, fixing up some lights. Stuff like that
- Lunar wears socks with funky patterns and images (like the strawberry socks he wears for his pj's)
- Lunar made a bracelet for Eclipse (he holds it dear)
Purgatory AU:
- Lunar hs extreme PTSD. Do NOT talk about needles, check-ups, or shots near him with his name in those sentences 🗣 He will run out of the room (or give you a 100-yard stare 😃)
- Lunar & Gemini aren't dating in this AU
- Benjamin and Brooklyn are one of the survivors of the slayings Lunar had done that night he left
- Lunar let Benjamin leave with his mom since he can't survive by himself in the world (He told them to leave a day before the day Lunar killed "everyone" in the facility)
- Lunar knows that Benjamin will soon be involved with the astral council because of what he is made of now, so Lunar visits him one night and takes back what is his (Benjamin is reverted to only star power and Lunar takes back the energy that was used to create Benjamin). It's a painless process, btw :p (this is a mercy kill on his part)
- (I'm still debating if I'm going to add this to the world) As punishment for her actions Brooklyn is turned into a star energy creature by Lunar and she now works under Lunar as his personal messenger (she looks like Nebula kinda but with her own features shinning through)
- (Thoughts :p) I kinda wanna make Lunar acesexual in this au 😋
- Benjamin and Lunar have a son and dad duo kinda vibe to em
- Icarus made carbon copies of astrals. He did this by using Lunars' star power and human DNA and left them for 9 months to develop
- Lunar has a burning hatred for Icarus and Brooklyn. And the creator, too (who doesn't?)
- The creator lets the scientists do whatever they want to do to Lunar. Just as long as it doesn't kill him, they are fine
That's all. I'm tire as hell man 🙁 I've been going through something :/
Hella burnout. Shit sucks

tattoo artist hobie/college au pt. 2!!
pt. 1
the Black Widow’s two-storey building was nestled between a café and a music shop, tinted glass windows gleaming in the late afternoon light. a bell dinged when miles stepped in, eyes flicking down to his watch reading 4:58p.m.; he let the door fall shut behind him as he took in the cool concrete floor and the matte black brackets of plants on the foyer wall, leaning his elbow against the front counter.
“hi,” he greeted the receptionist, who gave him an expectant half-smile. “uh, i’ve got a five o’clock with—”
“you’re early.”
miles’s heart did a flip-flop in his chest.
hobie stood on the bottom step of the staircase off to the side, long legs crossed at the ankle with his hands in his plaid pockets. his slouch against the railing was easy as ever, as was his smile; miles looked down at his watch just to give himself a second to recollect, trying not to let his brain stall. 4:59. “barely.”
hobie chuckled, and it made his pearl earring sway; miles’s eyes snapped to the motion like a magnet as hobie turned away, heading back up the stairs. “well, c’mon then.”
the narrow staircase led to the second floor, an open area with a few low couches and a coffee table. there were scones and tea on a tray; chai, by the smell of it, and hobie poured for them both once they sat down opposite each other. his teal converse bumped against miles’s toes as miles took his cup with whispered thanks and had a sip, brows raising.
“good, innit?” hobie murmured over his own, lips curling up the same way his fingers curled around the handle. “gift from a friend, his aunt makes it. help yourself to the scones, yeah?”
miles hummed, swallowing. his eyes flickered from hobie to the table to the wall and back to hobie again; the way he leaned back into the couch, loose-limbed and comfortable, was awfully distracting. miles took a second sip with that dark gaze on his skin, and the silence got louder.
“ay, sorry, i’m—” hobie sat up properly, hand on the back of his neck as he offered a sheepish chuckle. “i’m staring. s’rude of me.”
“nah. depends on why you’re staring.” the words were out of miles’s mouth before he could filter them, and he snapped his mouth shut in mortification.
hobie just laughed, piercings twinkling as he grabbed a buttered scone and bit it in half. “business first, brooklyn boy.”
miles valiantly willed the heat out of his cheeks and sat forward, putting his teacup down to pull his laptop out of his messenger bag. “so how’d you know about me? and my art?”
hobie smirked like he knew something miles didn’t. “school.”
he froze, narrowing his eyes. “...what do you mean, school?”
“we go to the same school.”
“we— wait.” miles knew hobie’s voice sounded familiar. “you’re the guy on our college’s radio station.”
hobie gave him jazz hands, brows lifting with a bemused smile. “the one and only.”
he gave hobie an incredulous look, mouth falling open. “man, i listen to you! how have i never seen you on campus?”
“we’re on opposite ends. i’m majoring in classical music,” hobie replied, grinning wide enough for miles to notice a smiley piercing against his front teeth. “you’ll never guess how i found out about you.”
“…i don’t know if i wanna ask.”
“ya happen to know a certain miss stacy?”
miles goggled. “you know gwen?! i mean, okay, no, gwen knows you?”
the other boy cackled, shoving the remaining half of his scone into his mouth and dusting his hands on his pants. “why’s that such a surprise, huh? we’re in the same block!”
“yeah, but—” miles sputtered, waving his hands about with his laptop forgotten. the way hobie’s eyes crinkled when he laughed was doing funny things to his brain. “you’re cool.”
and hobie really was; he was wearing dark red gloss today, lashes spiked with glittery mascara, a distressed black tank showing through the loose knit of the cream sweater hanging off one shoulder. he had a new ear stack on too, gold and garnet in a delicious contrast against his rich skin, and the tattoos on his forearms moved with him when he settled back against the couch.
“gwendy’s plenty cool,” he countered, playfully arching a pierced brow.
“not after you’ve seen her laugh so hard she shot rice out of her nose,” miles deadpanned, and he reveled in hobie’s wheeze. “but seriously, dude. there is no way in hell i haven’t seen or heard of you before.”
he knew he looked good, or at least decent; he had a solid sense of fashion and a workout routine that was consistent enough, but hobie was electrifying like a spark to your brain stem.
“let’s just say i like to keep it on the down-low.” hobie offered a mirthless chuckle. “a violin prodigy who hates practicin’ and prefers electric guitar, and still has one of the most sought-after scholarships across the board? i ain’t exactly got a fan club, now, bein’ the black sheep and all that.”
miles tongued at the inside of his cheek, fiddling with the charm bracelet on his left wrist. “they’re wrong about you.” hobie’s eyes flickered to him, sharp and intense, and miles shoved down against the way his heart was climbing up his throat.
“ya barely know me.”
“and yet i like you,” he challenged, setting his teeth against the verity. “and i’m not wrong about people very often.”
he watched as hobie’s eyes widened imperceptibly, falling shut as the other boy scrubbed broad palms across his face with a heavy sigh. “bloody— gwendy told me you’d be like this.”
“like what?”
“stubborn,” hobie muttered, peeking at him between two ring-clad fingers, full lips ticking up at the corner. he said the word like a compliment. “she’d warned me, y’know. i suppose just not enough.”
the laugh that slipped from miles’s throat was unplanned, thick like a weighty throw pillow to the chest. “sorry to break it to you, but my best friend is biased,” he said primly, pursing his lips. “also possibly a little bit crazy. and a liar.”
“alright, alright.” hobie’s grin was awry, pulling at his lip ring. it was ridiculously charming. “how ‘bout ya re-introduce yourself on your own terms, then?”
miles cocked his head, pretending to consider before he stuck out a hand. “miles morales. double major in visual arts and graphic design. it’s a pleasure.”
he tried not to shiver when hobie’s fingers wrapped around his, elegant and calloused, warm against his skin like the weight of hobie’s gaze.
“hobie brown. tattoo artist, lead guitarist extraordinaire—” he let go and sat back, dark eyes glittering above a soft smile, “—and i think you’ll find that the pleasure’s all mine.”
miles swallowed, mouth dry. his pulse fluttered.
oh, boy.
fin.

Chapter 12 [Read Here]
CHAMPION Part III of Heavyweight a deancas boxing au by valleydean (emmbrancsxx0) read from the beginning | playlist
SUMMARY: Brooklyn, 1933. Dean Winchester, the number one contender, trains to become the next Heavyweight Champion of the World, and this time he won't let anything get in his way. Title holder Castiel Novak has second thoughts about retiring, especially when someone from his past arrives in New York and asks for his help. Meanwhile, a new contender rises to fame and threatens to complicate both of Dean and Cas' ambitions - and their relationship.
CHAPTER PREVIEW:
Dean shuffled his weight from foot to foot, his taped and gloved fists at his sides. He felt loose. He felt good as he stared down the black curtain in front of him, waiting for it to be pulled aside so he could enter the arena to a flurry of fans chanting his name.
He could already hear those fans roaring, warmed up from the undercard fights but still anticipating the main event. In the ring, the MC was giving the opening spiel.
Bobby was just behind Dean, and Victor was behind him. Benny stepped into place after he’d traveled down the curtain to peek outside.
“Full house,” he reported. “Standin’ room only. Looks like that tour’a Cas’ did us a favor.”
Dean’s gut tightened. He had to stop himself from saying that Cas wasn’t doing anybody but himself any favors. But that wasn’t a conversation he wanted to get into at the moment—or ever. He’d done a pretty good job at focusing on the fight ahead instead of the bout he’d had with Cas last night.
Cas was supposed to have his back. He wasn’t supposed to threaten to keep the belt just because he was pissed at Dean. As if it was something he could hold over Dean’s head like a carrot on a stick.
Well, tonight Dean would show him just how ready he was for the belt. He had his eyes on the prize.
He shook out again, his silk robe fluttering around his thighs.
Stay focused.
“Where the hell is Rufus?” Bobby complained. “We’re almost on.”
“Haven’t seen ‘im,” Victor said.
Benny added, “Got me.”
Dean didn’t turn around to look at them. He kept his eyes straight ahead on the curtain, ready and eager to step through it and into the ring.
That was until the other curtain to his right was swatted open and Rufus rushed through, breathing harried.
“Bobby, Bobby. We got a problem,” he panted.
Dean’s focus snapped to Rufus like a rubber band. He wheeled around.
“What problem?” Bobby demanded.
Rufus doubled over, hands on his knees to catch his breath. He shook his head and held one finger up to tell them to wait.
Dean’s tongue darted out to wet his lips. His eyes flashed to Bobby’s.
“Damn it, Rufus. Breathe faster,” Bobby ordered.
“The ref—Arty Nielson,” Rufus said, standing back up.
“Yeah, what about him?”
“He’s not here. Had some kind of family emergency. The NBA brought in a sub.”
Dean wasn’t even in the ring yet, but he felt like he’d just been punched in the sternum. He remembered what Cas had said about Luc finding a way to rig the fight. But Cas was wrong. He had to be. Dean was supposed to prove that to him.
This had to be a coincidence.
“Balls,” Bobby huffed. “With who?”
“Some new kid,” Rufus answered. “Name’s Mackey.”
“And they’re just telling us this now?” Bobby said, like he was accusing Rufus of something.
Rufus flung out his arms. “Don’t shoot the messenger! I ran my ass back here the second I heard.”
Bobby grumbled something under his breath before looking up at Dean. There was doubt in his eyes and Dean’s heart skipped a beat, thinking he was going to call off the fight.
No way Dean was letting that happen.
“Okay, fine. So, new ref. Doesn’t change anything,” Dean said firmly.
“Changes something. We haven’t vetted him yet!” Bobby argued.
The MC’s voice boomed over the microphone, “And now, ladies and gentlemen, entering the arena… From Brooklyn, New York…”
“Too late now. We just gotta roll with it,” Dean said. He ignored the ice forming in his gut. He could win this, no matter who the ref was. Lee had promised a fair fight. Dean wasn’t going to stop believing him now.
“Your King of King’s County,” the MC announced, “Dean Winchester!”
Dean faced forward again and slapped on his most charming smile just in time for the curtains to pull back. Whistles and roars lifted up from everyone in the audience, from the people pushing toward him behind the barriers to the ones in the boxes and nosebleeds. Cameras flashed. Horn music blared from the orchestra.
Dean pumped his gloves in the air as he walked toward the ring. Men reached over the barriers to clap him on the back. Women stroked their fingers across his jaw and shoulders. Hats and roses were tossed in his path.
As he got closer to the ring, he spotted Crowley among the NBA officials in their ringside seats. The judges’ table was directly next to them, and the commentator’s table next to that. The radio stations had their set-ups just behind, where more of the press was corralled.
Dean got to the front row of the ringside seats behind his corner. Cas looked around from his seat on the aisle, his expression neutral while he clapped, as if he was just going through the motions. Next to him, Jo and Charlie seemed a lot more enthusiastic. Charlie pumped her fist in the air. Jo whooped.
Dean saw Sam’s massive silhouette beside them. Sam stuck his fingers in his mouth and whistled before he resumed clapping. Dean could just make out Eileen’s figure behind him at the end of the row.
Jack and Kelly weren’t anywhere in sight, which was annoying, even if Dean had expected it.
Dean shot Cas a wink as he passed, which made Cas’ lips tighten fractionally. Glee thrummed through Dean in response.
He bounded up the steps and ducked into the ring, then fired the crowd up a little more by shadowboxing. Predictably, the entire place ate it up.
Dean caught sight of Layla all by her lonesome on Lee’s side of the ring. It was too bad she couldn’t have sat with the rest of their group. He smiled at her, and she put her hand over her heart to silently wish him good luck.
Soon, the music died down. Dean settled into his corner beside Rufus, Victor, and Benny.
The MC took the mic again and said, “And his challenger tonight at Carnegie Hall… From Queens, New York… Lee Webb!”
Applause filled the arena again, this time with some boos mixed in. The orchestra played a different but no less jaunty tune as Lee came through the curtain to bask in the fanfare. A few members of his team walked behind him. The spotlights strobed over them, revealing their faces in white light before sending them back into shadows.
When the lights circled back around, Dean spotted a face at the back of the group—and all the breath in his lungs left him. Suddenly, the only thing he could hear was the ringing in his ears.
In the spotlight, Luc’s grin was self-satisfied. His chin was held high, like he was already celebrating a victory. Then the lights moved again, and his face plunged back into darkness, leaving only his silhouette.
Dean’s body went numb.

Anybody order some Jefferson and Aaron angst😁😁😁 CUS I AM DELIVERING IT HOT AND FRESH 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️
Also give me Aaron and Jefferson background or give me death!
_______________________________
Aaron sat on his motorcycle in the private alley behind his and Jefferson’s new studio apartment since they've moved operations from Harlem to Brooklyn. Snowflakes whisk around in the swift chilly breeze, its just start to stick to the ground as sleet. Aaron's Prowler gear is hidden under his bomber jacket as he checked his messages, refreshing over and over again but the top one still remained that same.
JD: 210, grabbin beer rn. Game should be on channel 12.
Code for: Urgent, meet me at 9pm at the base.
Aaron glances at the glaring 8:57 at the top of his blackberry. Sighing as he fully parks and cloaks his bike before using the fire escape to make his way up. There he finds his older brother pacing nervously, four black and milds burned to the plastic nub, he anxiously shakes a blue can of spary-paint and some jagged design that Aaron can only describe as panic personified is on the far wall that conceals some gear.
"JD! What the hell man? Had me buggin', Cottonmouth give you some BS or something?" Aaron asks, coming over and clapping a hand on his brother's shoulder. Jefferson blows his current cloud of tobacco high out of Aaron's face before squashing the tip out and adding some flawless circles to the piece.
"I…Ri…we gotta get outta this shit bro." Jefferson bumbles for a moment and Aaron frowns a look of confusion.
"What? Fuck is you talking bout ? What about Rio?" Aaron asks and Jefferson groans and flops to the floor, letting the can roll away. He gives no care to his white hoodie as he sags against the wall of wet paint. Aaron feels creeped out by how young and dumb his brother looks at the moment. Like he's 15 and not 25. He doesn't like it at all.
Aaron squats down next to him and tries to pat out the glassy look in Jeff's eyes. His brother starts to breathe heavily, panic bubbling.
"Rio is pregnant! Like with my baby and I…."
"Damn." Aaron slides to fully sit and Jeff slumps forward and rests his head in his hands, forcing his own head between his knees and thring to steady his breathing. One of those recenter-ing tactics that Rio showed him probably.
"Jeff, if y'all need money fo-"
"She's pregnant wit my kid and Cottonmouth just had us stalk out and scare that one lady who was pregnant and what if that was Rio and-and that fucked her up. We've busted houses and collected in places with kids before what-wh- STOP!" Aaron shakes Jefferson's shoulder hard and the broader of the two of them sits up ramroad straight.
"Calm down nigga, you doin' that spiraling shit that Rio was talking about JD!" Aaron tells him loudly. He gets up and digs around in one of the drawers at the kitchen counter before pulling out a blunt then grabbing a forty of Olde English. He dumps the self medication in his brother's lap and Jeff just huffs and looks at it.
"So, Rio is pregnant. Is she too far out or something for the clinic? You know all we gotta do is call Bunky and she'd find a hanger lady for her."
"Fuck no! I'd never endanger Rio like that, fuck you nigga!" Jefferson curses as he pops the bottle and swings back the first quarter of it. Aaron holds his hands up to disengage him.
"Don't shoot the messenger for the truth bru. With the way you've been sloppy with Cottonmouth's and that new dude King's menace missions lately. I'd hate to have a vulnerability like that. We're getting to a new level in the game bro, that ain't just jacking bank trucks and doing snow drops anymore. A baby will fuck it up. And Rio will not be for this shit. Hell, she might even snitch you out when she finds out that your money from "Security" work ain't so clean."
"Rio would never snitch on me." Jeff glares and Aaron laugh around a puff of the blunt then passes it over.
"Yo girl not mine. All my pussy know what kinda life we live. Live the life we live. Work how we work. You the one who went over to the Heights and got a PR princess that's smarter than you in two languages. Rio's gonna learn the truth if y'all go through with a baby." Aaron tells him and Jeff continues a hard stare to the floor.
"... and just what should I tell her, Master Splinter, since you're so damn wise." Jefferson chuckles darkly with another deep drink. Aaron rolls his eyes.
"She's 23 and just graduated nursing school. She shouldn't fuck her life up with a baby and a bum nigga."
"I'm notta fucking bum!"
"Pretend Jefferson! Either give her the cash to get rid of it and y'all continue on. Or drive her off. She doesn't know the shit we do and we both know what it's like to be raised in the game. Hell, Cottonmouth knowing we brothers is already a slippery slope. You havin' too many folks you care about, known about? Will end up with them dead, we know this. It's why sissy stays down in Jacksonville and mind her own business. Prowler and Lurk have nothing to do with Lady Blue. Shit like that, keeps all of us alive." Aaron reminds him. Jeff growls out in frustration and drives a fist into the plaster of the wall. The blue target he painted earlier crushed within it.
"Fuck!"
"Jeff, what th-"
"What if I don't wanna do this no more."
Both brothers go quiet at the slurred confession. Jefferson gets up and finishes the bottle, Aaron sighs as Jeff rolls the wide bottle between his hands.
"JD le-"
"I don't wanna do this no more. It isn't helping anyone. It's not good for us. I-I keep seeing… keep seeing the eyes of those kids scared outta they minds because I have they daddy or mama's head bashed into the kitchen title. I'd never hurt a kid but… do they know that? What if, they saw me just on the street taking Rio out somewhere or just in the Bodega.."
"That's why we wear a mask, Jeff. Calm the fuck down."
Jeff let's the bottle roll to the floor. He goes to his closet and throws his black and red costume to the floor. The mask isn't much really. A dark red base with three horizontal black lines over his brows, nose, and mouth. Red circle lens adjusted to his prescription over the eyes.
This mask is the face of Lurk. Where Prowler dragged claws behind him to make up for his lean from. Lurk's knuckles were studded, they would beat and beat and beat fear into whoever was his assignment.
He hasn't killed anyone yet. Just destroyed lives. Scarred people. All for money.
Jeff didn't want Lurk's face over his anymore. Not when he saw the most beautiful thing in the world in the form of a gray blob on a sonogram.
"I feel like the baby is a boy, mi vida! I know we have to wait a few more months to know but…I just know!" Rio teases as Jeff snuggles her belly while they rest in her bedroom. Her belly barely has a pudge past her usual shape. She's only a month and half along in the pregnancy at this point.
A person that is half of him and half of the angel who landed in his life three years ago. Who already had a big head for 9 weeks and Jeff's heart in their hand.
"He's going to be a smart baby! I used to like reading, you know, if I had the time, then maybe. But lately, I can't seem to keep a book out of my hands, I crave them like Maduros! Isn't that funny Jeff?"
His son. Does Jeff really want to be part of a world that is already so cruel? A world made scary because of guys like him and Aaron? Is Jeff even a real man to have Rio bring his son into a life like that, just like his father had done for Jeff and his siblings.
"You're too pussy to wear this mask JD. Too weak to be Prowler. Look at your baby brother, Aaron does what needs to be done for real success. He's a real man, he can pick up the claws but you? A waste of muscle, you're gonna be a goonie all your life. At least your sister is a business woman. What the fuck are you?"
"She's 4 months along." Jeff whispers and Aaron shoots up at that.
"What! Why did you wait so long to tell me?"
"You were on a long mission. I didn't want to mess you up when you were on such a touchy mission."
"Jefferson! Be fucking forreal bro!"
"I am! Gotdamit, I am! I'm….I'm done Aaron. Rio had an appointment today and I was staring at that grainy ass black and white picture and… my son, he's beautiful already. Not even here yet I… I can't have him in this life… Miles deserve better. I deserve better… even you and Brynn. Dad was so fucking wrong for putting us into this shit. We deserve better! We need to j-"
Jeff is cut off from his ramble by Aaron punching him in the face. Jeff quickly takes him down right back, the two physically fight. Knocking into the walls, into the coffee table then to the floor. Jefferson pins Aaron under him, one of his knees painfully drives one of Aaron's shoulders to the floor while Jeff struggles to peel Aaron hand from around his throat.
"Why you always gotta prove dad right! You're fuckin weak, you ain't no damn man. You ain't logical!"
"At least I ain't playing dress up in my daddy's damn clothes! I'm tired of this goon shit!" Jeff yells before wrenching Aaron's hand off and twisting it away. He jolts when Aaron cries out as a sickening pop echoes through the room. He scrambles back at that, hands shaking, whatever highs they had somehow chased crashed in an instant.
He just hurt his brother. His damn baby brother.
"Aaron… Ronnie baby… I-"
Aaron lets it go with a strong exhale. He breathes in again and holds his wince as Jefferson carefully brings him to a sit, then leans him against the wall. Its plaster crumbles even further around them, probably asbestos.
"Just shut up Jeff. Just shut the fuck up!" Aaron yells out as he tries to breath through the pain of a shoulder twisted out of socket. He breathed deep, real deep, pulling at the sense of numbness their father had taught him how to do on his first kill missin. To stop him from shaking with pity for a human being (sympathy, empathy, he didn't want to fucking do it but his dad had never shown so much pride). Pity halts a clean kill and a big payday.
Jeff takes Aaron's swift punch to the chest, right above his heart. It winds him up a little. He lets Aaron do it again.
And again.
And-
"Dad gave us this. We're legends to the crime world."
"We are their favorite goons and that's it."
"Fuck you, Jefferson. Put my shit back in place and get out then."
"..."
Jefferson does as such. With a swift and practiced tenderness he puts Aaron's shoulder back into place. Slips it into a brace and hands his baby brother painkillers and anti-inflammatories custom from Doc Ock. Aaron drinks it down with half of the last forty in the fridge.
As Aaron simmers on the couch, Jefferson rolls up Lurk's costume and studded knuckle dusters in a bulky bundle. He sets the keys to his motorcycle on the kitchen counter along with his business only burner phone. He gets to the door and looks back at Aaron who stares coldly ahead at the 10 o'clock Breaking News broadcast. Some big name witness that would have broken a cartel case has been found dead. Thoats gouged out, nearly decapitated with clawed slashes.
"Your cut is in the trunk." Aaron says, his voice all soft, deep, and robotic. Jeff closes the door, he numbly makes it down stairs. He floats as he gets into his Cadillac and drives across Brooklyn to Jamaica Bay.
He burns Lurk to ash, the mask and embers impression in the fire before he buries it in the sand. Jeff lumbers back to the car and opens the trunk. Sure enough, there in a black duffle bag is Jeff's cut of, 75,000$. A one-third of the mission price him and Aaron did a joint job on. That was always the deal with the Davis siblings. Everyone gets one-third. Even Brynn taps a PO box twice a month with profit from her blow and information business. They send her their one-third back to her laundered through jewelry.
Jefferson throws up behind the car. Flashes of blood, crushed in faces, broken limbs, slurred pleas through broken teeth, a screaming child crying for the parent Jeff was crushing in his hands, dance through his mind at each retch.
He leans against it after a few minutes of that then rests his forehead to the cold metal of his car. Praying it cures his fever of alcohol and emotions. He can't believe how warm and flushed he feels. The snowflakes melted instantly and join the sweat on his forehead and neck.
"¡Ay bendito! Jeff! You've got to learn how to regulate yourself better, papá!" Rio would chide him for being so worked up this late at night. Or this early in the morning. It was nearly 1 am.
He closes the trunk on the money. He knows he'll need it. He got an apartment to buy, a home to stock and a nursery to make now.
Aaron wakes up sore, and aching. The TV watching him and the world is white and bright through the window. The weather lady drones about last night's blizzard. He goes through the motions of resting up, thanking God Jeff pulled all that foolishness during his down period after the mission of the night before last. He pads into the bathroom and takes the hottest shower possible, careful to clean his face and hands of dried blood.
He cringes in the mirror but applies a bandage to the cut over his cheek and rubs cooling salave over the bruises. He pauses at the grainy black and white photo of something with a big ass head tucked in the corner of the bathroom mirror.
In Rio's loopy handwriting with a white maker she's made a text bubble in the empty space next to the baby's head.
"Hey Tio' Aaron :D! I'm Miles!"
Aaron huffs, lips twitching up before he washes his face and head back to the couch to have the rest of his beer for breakfast. As he dips his head back he ponders that grainy photo, ponders a childhood of being raised to follow their fathers footstep into the legacy of mercenary work. Jeff is too fucking soft, their father handed them the skills of success on a freaking platter and he's letting a Spanish Mamí and a baby stop that?
When nephew' gets here, I'm just gonna drop some stuff off to Jeff for congratulations and then I'm bouncing to Philly for a bit. Yeah, forget New York for a while. Forget Jefferson and what he swears I deserve.

A rough translation, which I had to tinker with somewhat, but nevertheless:
The last of this clan, my aunt Martha, who went to Assenheim to fetch bread on the day she left, also perished in Minsk with her husband Moritz Adler and their young son. The names of the whole family are engraved on the memorial wall in Frankfurt's Jewish Museum.
But not Martin. Like his father Max, a front-line fighter in the First World War, captain of the Friedberg soccer team (the Jewish team) in the 1920s, he was a short, stocky, brash “tough guy.” He beat me up often enough, just messing around, when he visited us in Griesheim, but I always enjoyed seeing him and visiting the family in Frankfurt just as much. We did this often, even though Aunt Ida was a real obsessive when it came to cleaning and tidying. She would have been a good Japanese housewife; she always liked to take off our shoes before we stepped onto her polished floors.
One day in 1938, when things were getting worse, there was an unpleasant incident outside her apartment. A group of Hitler Youth attacked Martin's brother Alfred at the front door and beat him up.
The shouting drew Martin, who was just 14 years old at the time, to the window. He grabbed a kitchen knife, jumped out of the window, ran towards the mob and struck at them with his fist and knife. After the HJ punks had run off with a few stab wounds, all hell broke loose. His father just managed to get home to take Martin away before the police arrived. A friend took him by motorcycle to Nathan and Frieda in Kaiserslautern, and from there to a hiding place. I always thought it was my father who managed this, but he later denied it to me, so it was someone else after all.
Max had to go to the Gestapo for a tough interrogation, but apparently he was able to stick to his claim that the boy had simply run away; at least he was released after a while. The family, I think with the involvement of my father, managed to introduce Martin to an American Quaker whose group was organizing a ship transport for Jewish orphans to America. They provided him with forged papers — whose statements later became all too true, of course — and brought him by ship to the USA, where he arrived a few weeks before my father and was entrusted to a Jewish family in Brooklyn.
There he went to “high school,” joined the US Army at 18 in 1942, married Doris Kimmel from Brooklyn at 19, took part in the invasion in June 1944 in Patton's Third Army, Fourth Armored Division (as a Jeep messenger between shot-up tanks on the battlefield — not a pleasant job, as he assured me afterwards), took part in the liberation of Ders, passed through Frankfurt in the final battle in April 1945, and ended his army career as mayor of Pilsen, a post he held for a week thanks to his knowledge of German, before the Americans were withdrawn to the other side of the Elbe. Then the hard years began, until he found good work as a skilled carpenter in New Haven, Connecticut, and settled there, where he died in 1983. His two sons Barry and Michael are splendid fellows, one the head of special education in the state of Connecticut, the other a lawyer in New York; they in turn have four children; they are — unlike the three of us — still practicing Jews, and so this branch of the family continues to exist.

(A timeline of events from an outsider’s perspective, based on @bendyredrawn ‘s very own timeline! In this world, JDS’s growth is much like Fleischer Studios, with some things from Disney.)
1919 - Drew-Stein Studios is created by Joey Drew and Henry Stein. They also release their first short, “Little Devil Darlin'“. It stars a misunderstood little imp that tries to keep a job in turning people to sin. It becomes a hit with minority groups, such as immigrants, as escapism from the riots of the time, and conservative whites of New York find it blasphemous.
1920 - “Imp from the Inkwell“ Is released. In this story, the imp, now named Bendy, gets into antics with a live action Henry Stein. The production of short comics also start, introducing an unnamed hellhound into the picture.
1922 - More cartoons and comics are made. Notably, Boris makes his entrance in “Boorish Beasts”. He is Bendy’s acquaintance and foil, being quiet and calculative, but warm-hearted.
1925 - The Bendy film “Tombstone Picnic” makes a breakthrough by becoming the first ever animated “talkie” through vitaphone. The titular character is voiced by none other than Joey himself. Drew-Stein Studios hits the top of the charts for animation in America.
1926 - Another series, Telltale Trio, is introduced into the catalogue. It is not focused on the well-known imp from hell, but instead a trio of ghastly animals haunting a small town. Drew-Stein Studios changes its name to Joey Drew Studios.
1927-1930 - Countless other comics and talkies are released. The idea of angels are also introduced to the Bendy series. JDS grows exponentially in young employees during the start of the Great Depression.
1932-1933 - One year of mostly comics. Rumors go around that JDS is buying out a new studio in the Brooklyn area to house all its new departments. Joey Drew mentions big things are coming, but keeps it a surprise.
1933 - Construction finishes on the new studio and production moves in. Several female singers, musicians, and foley artists are also hired around this time. Alice Angel is introduced: a trigger-happy messenger that’s ended up in Hell. This also marks the year of JDS’s first color film.
1934 - With the addition of the Hays code, JDS holds back on all the violence, and produces less Bendy cartoons. Strangely enough, its reputation and income is barely effected. Alice Angel becomes the darling of the show around this time.
1936 - JDS releases a feature-length on the return of Bendy. It becomes extremely popular. But at the same time an endemic of sickness spreads throughout New York for a few days. There are also reports of some theatres receiving completely corrupted canisters that have whole minutes blacked out, melting, or incomprehensible.
1937- Henry Stein leaves the company because of “creative differences”. The studio’s growth comes to a halt.
1937-1940 - Production slows on more Bendy cartoons, instead focusing on other series again. Employees start protesting for better treatment outside the studio.
1940-1943 - Employees of the studio start to go missing, along with other employees leaving in droves. All report sickness.
1944-1945 - The studio, again, advertises a new breakthrough. A few more cartoons come out, all focusing on Bendy. People near the studio report cold chills and auditory hallucinations for months upon end.
1946 - After a mass plunge into hysteria from people in the near vicinity of JDS for 3 hours, The studio goes completely silent. All people employed go missing. Many investigations are taken out under these disappearances, but all become cold cases. People that go in don’t come out. Eventually, the studio is demolished.
1963 - New animation released. Henry is told by Joey to record the old studio. Game events.

Hawkeye (Part II)
Summary: Clint reaches out to (Y/N) for help and after a visit with the physically and mentally taxed archer, she takes it upon herself to meet Hawkeye’s #1 fan and impart a little wisdom onto Clint’s young partner.
Pairing: Steve Rogers X Fem!Reader
Word Count: 4.1k
Warnings/Disclaimers: None
A/N: This week's chapter is a little longer because (a) I'm not sure I'll have Part III finished by next Thursday and (b) You guys deserve it!! There's a surprise character that'll pop up in the second half of this chapter and if you've seen Spider-Man: No Way Home, then I think you'll know who it is lol thank you for reading, I hope you all enjoy!
Hawkeye (Part II) December 21st, 2024 Apartment of Moira Brandon, East Village (Previous Chapter)
Out of all the Avengers she’d been introduced to during that fateful party at the Avengers Tower so many years ago, (Y/N) always had a secret soft spot for Clint Barton; he was equal parts kind and sarcastic, quickly noting the anxiety she’d been desperately trying to mask from the moment she arrived and taking the time to get to know her while simultaneously directing playful jabs at his fellow teammates. Their first meeting and team-up in the subsequent conflict with Ultron coupled with Natasha’s endless stories from their days of working together at S.H.I.E.L.D. cemented (Y/N)’s unbreakable trust in the archer, and it was that trust that led her to an average-looking East Village apartment building only four days before Christmas with a priceless and top-secret piece of S.W.O.R.D. technology tucked away in her messenger bag.
“Thanks for coming on such short notice, (Y/L/N),” Clint smiled as he ushered her into the temporary safe house, checking up and down the hall before locking the door and leading her into the cozy living room. “See any of those idiot Tracksuits tailing you?”
(Y/N) shrugged her winter coat off and draped it over the back of the couch with a humorless chuckle. “Nope, but I almost wish I had; I could’ve used a good laugh or two after that horrendous traffic jam on the Brooklyn Bridge.” She folded her pink scarf in half and tossed it on top of her coat, meeting Clint’s eyes with a sardonic smirk beginning to spread across her face. “Wouldn’t you know, some dumb-ass archer decided to impale a Pym Particle-infused arrow into the Manhattan Bridge and create commute hell for anyone traveling in or out of Brooklyn?”
Rolling his eyes, Clint flopped down onto the well-worn couch and sighed in exasperation; he looked exhausted, with darkened circles under his eyes and a noticeable cut on his forehead. “Still a smart-ass, I see. For your information, I shot a Pym Particle-infused arrow at a regular arrow and then it impaled itself into the bridge.”
“Well, either way, I thought you’d like to know that Scott got his ass chewed out by Hank for that little stunt,” She replied in amusement and sat herself down on the couch beside him, taking a moment to adjust her sweater over her small baby bump before rummaging through her messenger bag. “Apparently, Hank’s not too fond of his life’s work being used for – and I quote – ‘stupid shit you see on the eleven o’clock news.’”
The archer scoffed at that. “I once saw the guy use Pym Particles to enlarge a goddamn chicken sandwich, but whatever.”
(Y/N) laughed as she withdrew a small metal case and handed it over to Clint. “Back-up hearing aid, as requested; my coworker said that this is one of the best on the market, so you should be well-covered if yours ends up breaking again.” He nodded in thanks and slipped the case into his pocket. Her former teammate’s recent hearing loss as a result of years of work as a S.H.I.E.L.D. spy, Avenger and vigilante inspired her to seek out Brooklyn College’s underfunded but resilient disability resource center; she studied ASL and learned enough to not only begin teaching Steve and Carina, but to also pre-film her lectures for any hard of hearing student who decided to enroll in her Introduction to American Popular Culture course. “And I looked into that socialite guy for you…” Activating the transparent S.W.O.R.D. tablet – a parting gift from Nick Fury before he traveled up to the organization’s newly-built space station – (Y/N) allowed it to scan her handprint and read off the information she’d collected. “Jack Duquesne, born into the obscenely-wealthy Duquesne family that’s apparently descended from European aristocracy. Since he’s seemingly never worked a day in his life, he’s had enough free time to become an expert swordsman and accrue a pretty impressive sword collection; is that what he was doing at that black market auction the other night?”
Clint nodded as he studied the images on the tablet’s screen. “He wanted to add the Ronin’s sword to his collection; according to Kate, he ran off with it after the Tracksuits crashed the auction, and then he almost took my head off with it when we broke into her mom’s penthouse this morning.” When (Y/N) thoughtfully tilted her head to the side, his frown deepened. “What?”
“When I did a little more digging, I found out that Duquesne is listed as the CEO of Sloan Limited. It’s a shell company, one that launders money for none other than-”
“The Tracksuit Mafia…” The archer exhaled and leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees and rubbing a hand over his forehead. “Kate thinks that Jack Duquesne killed his uncle Armand. At first, I thought the idea of him becoming her stepfather someday was clouding her judgement but it’s looking like her instincts might’ve been right.”
Taking note of the stiffness in his movements and the weary tone of his voice, (Y/N) tucked the tablet back into her messenger bag as she gave him a sympathetic smile. “None of what I found out really helped you, did it?”
“It helped, (Y/L/N), it really did…” Clint hastily reassured her. “But I’m no closer to being able to go home for Christmas. I’ve got the suit and the sword, but Maya Lopez and the Tracksuits still have me and Kate connected to the Ronin and there’s a good chance that they’ve got Laura’s Rolex; I can’t leave until I track it down and figure out a way to stop the Tracksuits from targeting Kate, and I’ve gotta do all that before Kingpin gets involved.” He sat back and offered her a small smile. “The Barton Family Christmas hit a little speed-bump, as you can tell, so how’s the Rogers-(Y/L/N) Family Christmas going so far?”
“Well, Carina helped us decorate cookies and gingerbread houses for the vets down at the VA hospital yesterday, and then she decided that our living room wall could use a thick coat of frosting as well.” Clint burst into laughter and (Y/N) couldn’t help but join him. “Steve’s convinced that she’s got the makings of an artist, but I just think she likes to keep us on our toes. And this little gumball…” Beaming, she rubbed a hand across her bump. “Moved for the first time this morning.”
“That’s amazing! Boy or girl?”
“We don’t know yet, but we’re gonna open the envelope my doctor sealed for us together on Christmas Day and find out.” Memories of her first pregnancy and the overwhelming loneliness she struggled with unwittingly came to the forefront of her mind, but she forced herself to ignore them as she continued. “I’ve never really been one for big gender reveals, but after Carina’s…shall we say, unconventional birth and everything we’ve been through since, I just wanted this pregnancy to be special for us.”
A look of understanding crossed Clint’s bruised face, as he was one of the few Avengers who could empathize with desiring balance between a normal family life and the superhero life they’d been thrust into, but he merely smirked and jokingly replied, “Well, if you’re still thinking of baby names, I’ve always thought that Clint Rogers-(Y/L/N) had a nice ring to it.”
(Y/N) snorted in amusement. “Oh, really? You know, I’ve heard the same exact thing about Sam Rogers-(Y/L/N), James Bucky Rogers-(Y/L/N), Bruce Rogers-(Y/L/N), Thor Rogers-(Y/L/N), Korg Rogers-(Y/L/N) and Rocket Rogers-(Y/L/N).”
“I’m not usually one to judge, but I’ll totally judge you if you name your kid after a talking raccoon or a big pile of rocks.” When his chuckles died down, the archer’s blue-grey eyes softened as they looked between her face and the bump she was unconsciously cradling. “I’m really happy for you guys, and I know…I know that Nat and Tony would be, too.”
After flashing him a thankful smile, (Y/N) leaned her elbow on the back of the couch and rested her temple against the palm of her hand. “So, what’s this Kate Bishop like?”
“A pain in my ass,” Clint bluntly replied and when she lightly scoffed at his answer, he crossed his arms over his chest. “I’m serious! That kid’s cocky, reckless and she talks way too much…but I can’t deny that she’s a damn good archer and her instincts are sharp.” His brow arched as a thoughtful expression crossed his injured features. “You know, she reminds me a little of you, actually; she put that suit on to protect innocent people from the Tracksuits without a single thought for her own safety, just like how you volunteered to help an Air Force vet and a couple of wanted Avengers save the world from Hydra without a single thought for your own safety.”
(Y/N), detecting a hint of concern in her friend’s tone of voice, nodded in understanding. “You’re worried about her.”
Clint nodded. “Damn right I am. You were twenty-seven when you helped Steve, Nat and Sam stop Project Insight, and Kate’s only twenty-two; you understood the risks of getting involved in this sort of life, but Kate…she’s got blinders on. I tried to make her understand that I’m not a role model, that I’m not someone that people should look up to and that this life I’ve led for the past twenty years isn’t a game but like I already told you, she’s cocky and reckless.”
“She doesn’t know about the Ronin, does she?” When Clint shook his head, (Y/N) bit her lip and carefully contemplated her next words before speaking. “Maybe the reason you can’t get through to her is because you haven’t shown her the real you and she can sense that you’re hiding something from her; if you open up to her now, then you might be able to stop her from getting too deep into all this.” He shrugged his shoulder, but she could see that she hadn’t convinced him to confide in his reluctant partner; she glanced down at her wristwatch and hummed to herself. “Well, I should probably head out now if I want to beat the commute traffic to Brooklyn…”
“Yeah, and I should give Laura and the kids a call before I pass out from exhaustion.” Clint helped her to her feet and gave her a fond smile as she pulled her coat and scarf back on. “It’s been good seeing you, (Y/L/N), and I really appreciate your help. Tell Steve that I said hi and that he should totally name his second-born after one of his oldest and coolest friends, okay?”
“Sure thing, Hawkeye,” (Y/N) chuckled, slinging the strap of her messenger bag over her shoulder as they walked over to the apartment’s front door and giving her friend a hug, careful of his bruised and battle-worn limbs as she did. “Good luck, Clint. You’re going to fix this and you’re going to make it home for your Barton Family Christmas and on Christmas Day, we’ll give you guys a call to let you know if it’s a boy or a girl.”
“Aye aye, Captain.” With a smile and a teasing salute, Clint opened the door and watched her head towards the building’s elevator before retreating into the temporary safe house.
(Y/N) stepped into the elevator and after the door slid closed, the uneasy feeling that had begun to form when the topic of Kate Bishop came up only seemed to deepen as the elevator descended. It was foolish to further embroil herself in Clint’s struggle against the Tracksuits; not only was she entering her pregnancy’s second trimester but if a powerful man like Kingpin caught wind that she was involved, it could put Steve’s secret life in jeopardy and their family’s safety at risk. But it was Clint’s comparison of Kate to (Y/N) that compelled her to pull the S.W.O.R.D. tablet out of her messenger bag and research the young archer’s cell phone number.
“I sure hope that I’m doing the right thing, Nat,” She murmured under her breath as she worked. “For Kate and for Clint’s sakes…”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
An hour later, (Y/N) was seated at one of the rickety metal tables outside Greenwich Village’s own Joe’s Pizza, patiently waiting for the twenty-two-year-old to work through her star-struck awe while she enjoyed a slice of pizza and scratched the young archer’s rescue Golden Retriever behind his ear.
“Holy shit, I can’t believe I’ve met two Avengers in less than a week! Is this, like, some sort of a superhero test? Or a trial period or somethin’? I mean, I’ve only been in four-ish fights so far…or wait, was it five? I don’t know, I can’t really remember ‘cause I’m pretty much running on caffeine and adrenaline at this point,” Kate nervously chuckled, a little out of breath as she finally stopped rambling and attempted to rearrange her excited features into a nonchalant smile. “…So, um, what can I do for you, Ms. (Y/L/N)?”
“Please, just call me (Y/N).” Smiling, (Y/N) took another bite of her pizza slice and used it to point at Kate. “I’ve heard a lot about you from our mutual friend, so I wanted to meet you for myself.”
The young archer’s brows raised almost comically. “R-Really? Wow, that’s really…was it all good things you heard?”
“Mm-hmm, and I also saw the video of you rescuing this good boy on the news.” The one-eyed Golden Retriever nuzzled his face against her lap and perked up when she tore her slice of pizza in half, wolfing it down in record time once she offered it to him. “He’s lucky that someone as skilled as you came along when you did.” After watching the dog enjoy his chunk of pizza, she looked back up at Kate and sobered as her eyes fixated on the steri-strips that closed the lacerations that were scattered across her youthful face. “Actually, I asked you to meet me here because I wanted to talk to you about this case you’re working with Clint.”
Kate slumped in her seat, a dejected frown beginning to form on her injured face while she took a halfhearted bite of her pepperoni pizza slice. “You think I should stay home and let Clint handle it, don’t you? That’s what my mom thinks, too; she didn’t say anything about it to me, but I know she thinks I’m crazy for doing this. I mean, I’m just a civilian and Clint’s a freaking Avenger, so I guess I see why it’s nuts that I’m helping him out, but I…I can’t just sit back when I know that I can help.”
Smiling a little to herself, (Y/N) dabbed at her lips with a napkin and shook her head. “Kate, I’m the last person on the planet who’d ever tell you to stay home and ignore the instinct to help. I was just a civilian when I helped Steve, Nat and Sam take down Hydra – an unpublished historical-fiction novelist with a part-time job at the V.A., who just so happened to be one of only two people in D.C. that a couple of wanted Avengers could trust. They tried their hardest to make me stay home and out of danger but I refused, because I knew that I could help them. I had to help, no matter what, and nothing they’d say could change my mind.”
“So, you understand why I’m still helping Clint?” The young archer’s expression brightened and she sat up in her seat. “That’s great!” When (Y/N) didn’t immediately answer, her head tilted to the side in confusion. “…Isn’t it?”
“You and I are a lot alike and because I see so much of myself in you, I wanted to tell you what I wish someone had told me ten years ago, when I took my first steps into the life of an Avenger.” (Y/N)’s fingers caressed the content Golden Retriever’s fur, taking small comfort in his calming presence as she continued. “When you choose to spend your life trying to help people, there’s going to be consequences you’ll have to face. Some of the consequences won’t come as a surprise – the fights and battles have taken a physical and mental toll on me, for example, and I’ll have to live with their effects on my body and on my mind for the rest of my life – but others will. From the moment it began, my entire career’s been called into question; you see, people assume that my success is due to my long-time association with the Avengers and not the writing skills I’ve worked my ass off developing and perfecting. I lost any chance at anonymity or a private life when I announced my engagement to Steve Rogers. I became estranged from my family, because they didn’t approve of my relationship or my association with the Avengers. I went through the joy of befriending some of the kindest and most misunderstood people in the world, and then I was forced to mourn them in a way that no one but my fellow Avengers could ever understand; the world lost Iron Man, Black Widow, Black Panther and the Vision, but I lost Tony, Nat, T’Challa and Vis.”
Kate bowed her head and stared down at the discarded pizza crust on her plate. “And you lost Steve, too.”
(Y/N) nodded mutely, careful to keep up the ruse that Steve Rogers died in the Battle of Earth and wasn’t currently wrapping Christmas gifts with their fifteen-month old daughter in their Brooklyn home. “When you face the threats that Clint and I have faced, you have to accept that there’s going to be things that you lose along the way. I don’t tell you any of this to dissuade you, Kate, far from it; I’ve always believed that if you feel that you can help, then it’s your moral obligation to do so.” She reached across the table and rested a comforting hand atop Kate’s, giving her a small smile when her eyes finally met hers. “But it’s important that you know that this life isn’t easy, and it’s only fair that you hear it from one of the only Avengers who stumbled into this life the way you have. Do you understand?”
Kate nodded, and the brief silence that filled the air as (Y/N) finished her slice of pizza was broken by a timid question. “Do you know who the Ronin is?”
“…I know who they used to be,” (Y/N) carefully replied. “But if you want to know more about the Ronin, then you’ll have to ask Clint.”
“Urgh, I knew you’d say something cryptic like that. Hey, what’re Clint’s favorite Christmas movies and does he have any strong opinions about ugly Christmas sweaters?”
After (Y/N) helped Kate plan out the perfect mini-Christmas party for a homesick Clint, she bid the young archer and her energetic Golden Retriever goodbye and watched them both stroll down the sidewalk with a fond smile on her face. It was clear to her that Kate’s heart was in the right place, and that perhaps she was the perfect person to help Clint move on from the Ronin as well as resolve the ongoing conflict with the Tracksuits. I just hope they’ll both stay safe, she thought as she anxiously bit her lower lip and stroked her small baby bump, her mind preoccupied with a myriad of the worst possible outcomes to the archers’ partnership.
“Here you go, Ms. (Y/L/N): one large chicken and olive pizza to go,” The young worker’s sudden appearance shook (Y/N) out of her heavy thoughts and after setting the pizza box down, he started to bus the table with a small smile on his face. “Need any packets of Parmesan cheese or red pepper flakes?”
“No, thank you, I-” (Y/N) cut herself off when her eyes caught sight of a familiar well-worn paperback sticking out of the teenager’s back pocket and she felt herself begin to grin. “It’s been a while since I’ve seen a copy of For Queen and Country with its original cover art. How’re you enjoying it?”
He nodded enthusiastically. “It’s one of my favorite books!” The young worker’s gaze briefly met hers as a light blush dusted his cheeks; there was a brief flash of grief in his brown eyes – a deep sort of grief that looked entirely out of place in the eyes of a teenager – but it soon vanished when a bashful expression graced his features. “I’ve been a fan for a pretty long time, Ms. (Y/L/N), and I was actually workin’ up the courage to come out here and ask you for your autograph. I don’t wanna bug you or overstep-”
“Of course I’ll autograph your copy!” (Y/N)’s smile widened as he stammered out a brief thanks and scrambled to hand her the paperback and his server’s pen. “Who should I make it out to?”
“Peter, Peter Parker.” Again, (Y/N) was struck by the strange emotion that flashed across his face, but what gave her pause was the sudden familiarity that his name brought her; she couldn’t put her finger on it, but something about the teenager’s name tugged at the far reaches of her mind. Doing her best to shrug the unsettled feeling off, she jotted down a brief greeting and signed her name before blowing on the drying ink and handing the book and pen back with a smile. “Thanks a lot, Ms. (Y/L/N)! It was good seein’ you agai-um, sorry, I think my manager’s callin’ me, happy holidays!”
Peter Parker, who’d abruptly turned as white as a sheet, shoved his book and pen into his pocket and scooped up the dirty dishes before practically sprinting back inside. (Y/N)’s brow arched at his odd shift in behavior, but gathered up her pizza box and strode down the sidewalk to where she’d been lucky enough to park her yellow Volkswagen Bug. After securing the pizza in the car’s front trunk (or ‘frunk,’ as Sam liked to jokingly call it), she carefully climbed into the driver’s seat and waited a moment for the baby to settle down before dialing Steve’s cell phone number.
“Hey, sunshine! How was your visit with Clint?”
“Productive, for the most part; he has an idea of who the middle-man between Kingpin and the Tracksuits is, but he’s still not sure how to stop them from targeting him and his new friend Kate or uncovering Laura’s past. I also had a quick chat with Kate over lunch, which is why I’m bringing home a chicken and olive pizza from Joe’s; you should also know that your offspring conned me into buying it.”
Steve chuckled. “Oh, they did, huh?”
“Mm-hmm, and you should count yourself lucky that it was only pizza; at four months pregnant with Cari, I was craving Flamin’ Hot Cheetos dipped in vanilla ice cream,” (Y/N) snickered as her husband made a sound of disgust on the other end of the call. “Oh, and the strangest thing happened as I was leaving! Do we know a Peter Parker from anywhere?”
“…I don’t think so, but the name sounds awfully familiar.”
“Right? There’s something strange about it but I can’t put my finger on-” A recognizable babbling in the background of the call caused her to stifle a giggle. “Someone’s feeling chatty today, aren’t they?”
“I think that last episode of Sesame Street might’ve riled her up a bit; you know how much she loves when the Count makes an appearance,” Her husband remarked before calling out, “Cari, did you wanna talk to Mama? Mama’s on the phone right now.”
The gibberish grew louder as the infant toddled over and happily exclaimed into the phone. “Mama!”
“Hi, lemon drop! I’ll be home really soon, okay? Mama loves you!” (Y/N) smiled to herself, listening to their daughter’s incoherent mumbling grow faint as Steve regained control of the cell phone. “I should be home in a half an hour or so, depending on how backed up the bridge is.”
“Fingers crossed that all the city’s archers decide to leave the Brooklyn Bridge un-impaled for the afternoon commute.” Steve joked. “You can tell me all about Clint and his new partner over pizza and my famous green smoothies. I love you, sunshine.”
She gave her phone an exaggerated air-kiss that made Steve huff out a quiet laugh. “I love you too, sweetheart, and I’ll see you soon.”
After hanging up the call and tucking her cell phone into her messenger bag, (Y/N) started the car’s engine and turned up the radio, the local station’s Christmas playlist already playing through the speakers. “Okay, gumball, your daddy promised to make us a smoothie, so let’s get this show on the road.”
Pulling away from the curb, (Y/N) hummed along to the upbeat Elton John track in the hopes that the music would distract from the unsettling feeling beginning to take form in the pit of her stomach, but the tune wasn’t enough to make her shake the suspicion that someone was watching her from afar.
spider-man interlude
one day before the next chapter, a familiar little lady gets a visit
this is really short. and sorta just an extra!! but yknow; it was either this or i struggle w the agatha fic which i will not touch until September
The Brooklyn streets were quiet that evening, almost uncomfortably so. Lucielle didn’t mind, if anything, she reveled in it. Mutants still weren’t the most well received anyways. The sun’s passing rays just barely cut through the spring breeze, illuminating her way like magic.
She lived two blocks past Fisk Tower, and had to pass the building every morning to reach her bus stop for work. And every day, ever since a few weeks ago, she dreamed to meet a certain someone inside.
Sharp nails tapped against the strap of her messenger bag, her other hand near her head to keep fixing her bangs from the wind. This bus stop was never that busy in the first place, so as she stepped away, she zoned out staring at the sidewalk and listening to the slow drones of passing cars.
Beep. Beep.
A sharp mechanical peep cut through her peace, and her head swung around to try and find it.
Beep. Beep. Thwhip!
A braided strand of webs from behind lands just at Lucielle’s feet, causing her to jump in surprise and her back to hit the bus stop’s sign. Her eyes shot down, then back up as she spun on her toes. Spider-Man perched atop the nearest streetlight, red suit standing out against the dim sky behind him. He looked down at her, and even before he could say anything, Lucielle could’ve sworn the small, smoke-detector esque device in one of his hands was familiar.
“Spider-Man?!” The mutant exclaimed.
“You!” He added, holding back a laugh as he addressed her like an old friend. “Have I seen you around before?”
The hero kicked his feet a bit, his voice light yet still sharply masculine, he must’ve been around Lucielle’s age. As her brows furrow and she opens her mouth to reply, he waves his free hand dismissively.
“Nah, just kidding- Never seen you, but I know someone who did.”
Lucielle’s mind was in a bind, and she couldn’t add anything more before he dropped the machine he held. She scrambled to free her hands and catch it, almost squeaking in surprise. Small, white, and octagonal.
“My old friend, Ock,” Spider-Man stood from his perch, putting one foot on the light’s pole before hopping down entirely. Lucielle was too stunned to notice, her hands tight around the small Mutant Observation Device. “Spouted some nonsense about a mutant girl, took me a bit to try and find any mutants. Thankfully, she had a little goober just for that.”
Lucielle felt her fur bristle, her gut wrenching. She was so caught up in the excitement of finally knowing someone, that she neglected to keep in mind that the someone was a supervillain. And tomorrow, they were going out on a date.
“Did she-“ The young woman starts, looking up to the Spider’s wide eyed mask, “Did she hurt you? What did she do?” She gripped onto the detector, her hands nearly trembling.
Spider-Man was quiet for a moment, a faint wrinkle in his mask forming from a frown. “I’m fine, ok? Just the regular scuffle.”
“But- Then what did she say? I’m not a part of her schemes, I swear!”
The hero just shifts on his feet, his hands rising in a show of innocence. He only answers after sighing, the eyes of his mask seeming to blink. “Nothing.. Nothing really. Something about how I’d ‘scare away’ the ‘mutant girl’ she ‘tried so hard to befriend.’”
Spider-Man’s lighthearted quotation mark gestures did little to quell Lucielle’s worry. Her grip falls from the device, and she moves to slip it into her bag. She casts her eyes back to the ground, and takes a step back.
The step is followed by the Spider, who lowers his hands. “Hey, you were swept up in her charisma- I wouldn’t blame you!” Lucielle glances back, swallowing her pride and almost shaking. “Don’t let her get too close, ok..? All she’ll do is tear you down- Maybe I can use you as some inside intel.”
Spider-Man took a step back, stretching out his arms behind him as if to leave. He keeps his eyes on the mutant as she turns, before shouting out once more. “You can find me on the web if you want to volunteer any info, ‘kay? Stay safe out there.”
Lucielle didn’t watch him leave, she was already walking away when he did anyways. But his visit was like a wake up call, one she wished she had never gotten.
I Dreamed I Saw Dwight Eisenhower (or, How Come There’s Never an Old Weird American Around When You Need One?)
Come out, ye gifted kings and queens And hear my sad complaint No martyr is among ye now Whom you can call your own – R. Zimmerman
Wub-Fur once again finds it needful to apologize for an overlong absence from the Internet airwaves and offer in recompense (as is our wont) another eclectic mix of contemporary indie rock and such. We recently awoke, as one does, from a recurring prophetic fever dream of a nation teetering on the edge of the fascist abyss and rushed to our virtual turntable to assuage our bewilderment and dismay by finding some excellent new tunes to share with you all. Featuring magical, melodious, and magnificent musical outpourings from Allah-Las, the Softies, Rain Parade, Beach Fossils, Woods, the No Ones, Pink Mountaintops, and 11 more of our favorite artists of 2023.
Nb. We didn’t really like Ike all that much, but he was a freakin’ saint compared to the authoritarian conman the Grand Old Party threatens to return to the White House next year. If you are an American citizen, please act (and vote!) accordingly.
Legendary Creatures: Angels and Demons
Angels and demons are creatures that are subservient to monotheistic gods and likely came the spirits and daemons (evil spirits) assigned to various natural phenomena by polytheistic and animistic belief systems becoming subservient to the deity that became supreme.
By Sculptor Albano; photo by Billy Hathorn - Salvatore Albano in Brooklyn Museum, CC BY 3.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=18344231
Demons go farther back, possibly to the Paleolithic, being manifestations of fear of the unknown or strange or horrific. They were malevolent and may cause anything from ill luck to illness to untimely death. In monotheistic religions, they became subservient to the supreme evil, the subservient antagonist to the supreme god, moving from Zoroastrianism to Judaism to Christianity and Islam.
Zoroastrianism is one of the oldest monotheistic religions still practiced, and thus one of the oldest religions that has angels (holy deities called 𐬀𐬨𐬆𐬱𐬀⸱𐬯𐬞𐬆𐬧𐬙𐬀 Aməša Spəṇta) that are emanations of the Wise Lord (𐬀𐬵𐬎𐬭𐬀 𐬨𐬀𐬰𐬛𐬁 Ahura Mazdā, God), as well as demons (𐬛𐬀𐬉𐬎𐬎𐬀 daēuua, 'gods that are (to be) rejected') that promote chaos and disorder.
By Unknown Calligrapher - Library of Congress, Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=4173727
Daēuua is linguistically interesting as it is related to the Proto-Indo-European word that became 'deus' (god) in Latin and 'Zeus' in Greek and 'deva' (divine being) in Hinduism. In the Gathas, the oldest writings of Zoroastrianism, daēuas aren't yet the malevolent spirits they'd become later, though they are mentioned as a group of 'quite genuine gods, who had, however, been rejected' because they can't distinguish between truth and lies. By the writing of the Younger Avesta (about the 3rd century CE), the daēuas are hostile and texts are given to protect against them.
By mehdi hosseini, CC BY 3.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=54176133
Yazata (𐬫𐬀𐬰𐬀𐬙𐬀) means 'worthy of worship or veneration', which can be applied to many things, including healing plants, and Ahura Mazdā (who is 'the greatest of the yazatas'). In the Gathas, it's also applied to the 'divine sparks' that become the Aməša Spəṇta who were what the daēuas were not. By around the early 4th century BCE, every day of the month was under the protection of a yazata, which also established a hierarchy amongst them.
In Judaism, angels (מַלְאָךְ mal’āḵ 'messenger') are traditionally beings that stand by God but are distinct and subordinate. Tradition also places them below humans because they are only able to carry out God's commands and lack a will of their own. A prophet or priest could also be called a mal’āḵ. But, referring to supernatural entities, they are part of the heavenly court, moving from being part of God to being distinct from God. They're tasked with delivering messages for God. Satan is part of the heavenly court as well as a mal’āḵ. By the time the book of Daniel was written, angels even have names, Gabriel and Michael being mentioned in that book.
There are two types of demons in the Hebrew Bible, shedim (שֵׁדִים), which occurs twice, and se'irim (שעירים), which occurs once. Se'irim refers to male goats and is used in Leviticus 17:7 and probably refers to Assyrian demons that happened to be goat shaped. Shedim, used in Deuteronomy 32:17 and Psalms 106:37, refer to foreign gods which are evil for not being the Jewish God. Diseases, especially those that affect the brain, were ascribed to demons and the cure was thought to be the removal of demons.
Early Christianity took the idea of angels as messengers from the Jewish tradition, adding that they ministered (served) to people as dictated by God. They added Uriel and Raphael to Gabriel and Michael of the Jewish scriptures. Their existence is taken for granted as is that of demons and their opposition to each other. It also accepted that angels could interact on the physical plane with humans, advising kindness to strangers 'for thereby some have entertained angels unawares' (Hebrews 13:2).
While there were evil spirits sent by God, they aren't considered demons because they serve God rather than opposing God. In the Septuagint (the Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible) the 'gods of other nations' became 'daimones' (minor deities) and carried negative connotations. Because of this translation and association, the duality of angels on God's side and demons being non-Christian deities as well as being tempters and causing pain and suffering. Of the 55 times demons appear in the New Testament, 46 of those refer to possession or exorcism.
In Islam, angels (ملاك Malāk) are foundational and are exclusively heavenly spirits, not humans messengers. They are able to reason and can be tested by God by adornments. They're not specifically named as revealing the Quran, but tradition holds that Gabriel did so. They are also capable of carrying out negative tasks, like guarding and punishing sinners in hell.
By Multiple/Unknown - Oxford Digital Library, Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=3727081
Demons in Islam take two basic forms, jinn (جِنّ, sometimes djinn), which come from pre-Islamic Arabian belief systems. They're accountable for their actions and can believe or disbelieve God's guidance. Though they usually are invisible, they can show themselves and change their shape at will. They can also be injured and take revenge by possessing the person that harmed them, requiring an exorcism. They rarely meddle with human affairs. The other form, shayāṭīn (شَيَاطِين, singular shayṭān شَيْطَان) or devils, are related to Jewish and Christian versions of demons and are specifically malevolent, opposing believers and leading them astray. They are still under the command of God since God commands both good and evil despite being reluctant about it, and can only act when God orders them to do so.
alice didn't normally make her way this far downtown. besides the fact that she lived in brooklyn, when she had to come to SHIELD's headquarters in the city she only needed to make it to midtown. no, instead she had to schlep downtown with all the business assholes who had places to be and weren't watching where they were going about it. it was safe to say, after growing up barely making ends meet and pulling herself out of a downward spiral, she didn't much like being around the people who'd looked at her like she was shit on their shoe.
playing messenger wasn't really her speed either. she had shit to do, real actual mission leads she could be checking out instead of white collar crime, but instead she got the privilege of telling one of manhattan's leading law firms that one of their clients was under investigation. in person. now, normally, this was the type of thing where an agent sent a memorandum telling the firm that if anything turned up on their client the firm could be dragged into the mess. attorney client privilege meant the attorney couldn't say shit, but if they found out the firm had anything to do with the client's shady dealings they could open an investigation into them as well.
she was allowed up, and had the pleasure of meeting a very nice secretary who directed her to wait while the man she was there to see finished his meeting. as soon as he did, she waited for the client to leave before she stood. "harvey specter i assume, i'm agent alice gallagher from SHIELD," she took her badge out of her pocket and held it out to him. "we need to talk, you do have an office right?" she knew he did, it was glass with his name on the door and she could see it.
SURPRISE STARTER 1/2 | starter for @bledsoul / harvey specter *
#bledsoul#i could plot or i could jump scare your silly lil guys with mine#no need to match my length i write long at weird hours#don’t take shit from anyone . . . [ STARTERS ]*
