modern au obikin on the brain today
50 y/o obi-wan is getting divorced and assisting his lawyer with the case is 23 y/o law student anakin who helps out at the firm. anakin is very eager to keep mr. kenobi up to date on the proceedings, taking any chance he gets to talk to him. not only is mr. kenobi the hottest person anakin has ever seen, he’s also so nice. he sees anakin who usually gets overlooked by clients or talked down to because he’s only a student helping out but mr. kenobi sees him. he talks to him. he asks him questions. and anakin melts at the attention, regardless that it’s only polite interest, regardless that it’s a hopeless crush, but it’s not like anakin can help himself.
meanwhile obi-wan thinks he’s having a mid-life crisis on top of his divorce because this bright-eyed, bushy-tailed kid who’s more than half his age is assisting with his case, and he keeps coming back to obi-wan. and it’s so easy to fluster that beautiful boy, get him all flushed and stuttering. he’s so gorgeously responsive to obi-wan, it’s intoxicating. obi-wan wants to thoroughly debauch him. he’s not an idiot, though, anakin is young and beautiful, he’s just appreciating that obi-wan acknowledges him, it’s nothing more. besides, he shouldn’t be lusting after anakin anyway, he’s so young, and obi-wan is going through a divorce. maybe he should just buy himself a stupidly expensive sports car and be done with it. but then...there are far prettier things he could ride; far more responsive things he could spend money on.

We had a nice second date at the National Museum on Sat and talked about some big stuff and he wants to see me again and I want to see him again and I'm enjoying getting to know him.
(and despite scheduling the date for a weekend, aka when my housemate does not work at the Museum, she ended up being rostered on and got a sneaky pic of us hanging out haha)
I'm not necessarily saying I have a crush but I have checked my phone four times this evening while anticipating a text.
#tim#date#getting to know you#getting to know all about you#I liked that he asked if I was comfortable with him buying lunch and giving me a lift home#consent is good!!#also he has a red sports car he refers to as his mid-life crisis lol

why is it that mid-life crises options for rich men now are like: get a sport car or have affairs with inappropriately young women
back in the days a mid-life crisis could look like buying a saucy little tribune to do political violence and maybe yell slurs at your wife (political rival) if you were mad at him

The Art of the Slowpoke, or How I Stopped Caring About HP
This is the Lamborghini SC20. It's a one off, some 750 HP and uh, well no roof. I don't know the name of this style, but it has been a thing with a lot of one-off, or limited run cars. I don't really get it, but to be frank, I don't really hate it either. I do like this car, it's a nice design, the color scheming is rather different (when was the last time you saw a stock blue & white Lambo?), but to be frank, I would never own it. Yeah, I couldn't afford it ever my life, but even if I could, it wouldn't be my first pick of car. Hell, it wouldn't even be the first Lamborghini I'd go for. That'd be the Diablo. But, well, there's still a dozen dozen cars I'd go for first.
Frankly, it'd be something like this. An AMC Gremlin. A little shitbox American car from the mid-70s with a V8 that barely shits out as much power as a modern Miata. Top speed of 100 when it goes downwind, bodywork with more rust than solid metal, cheap as shit. It's perfect. It's pure, shithole 70's Detroit, when the oil crisis meant "lets make the worst fucking cars imaginable and kill the muscle car."
Meanwhile, only 5-6 years ago, Italy pushed out this absolute centerfold of a car, the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, a car with as much horsepower as an RX8 but enough oomph to still hit 200 mph. In 1968. It's one of those multi-million dollar cars nowadays, a holy grail of ownership that half the examples are probably rotting away in some dickhead's collection. And I absolutely adore this car, don't get me wrong. I'd kill to drive this for a day, even. But I'd still buy a Gremlin first.
Cool shitboxes really aren't a thing anymore, frankly. Low horsepower, but high fun factor. Japan puts out a lot of cheap, sporty cars, sure, but a lot pale in comparison to their older generations. Would sooner buy a '93 Civic than a '23. But in a fun, almost poetic twist, you have thisun. The Abarth 124 Spider. Well, it's mostly a Miata, but all the fixin's are done up by Abarth. It's still only 165 HP, less than a fucking Kia Soul Turbo, but come on, would you really buy one of those over this? The Miata might've turned from the hairdresser car to the weird cult icon it's become in recent years, but this one stands out from the rest. The Fiata as they call it, sounding 100 HP more aggressive than it is, only able to hit 140 on a good day. And it goes racing. Brings to mind something else, really...
Yeah, the Ford Escort. A car that started life as a cheap family car, a replacement for the Anglia (The stupid flying car from Harry Potter), turned into a long running icon of Ford's rallying success. It's a tale not unheard of in the sport, the Fiat 131 in the 80's was a similar story, but its an inspiring story. Something so simple, so low-power, under the radar, turning into a motoring icon on the dirt. That is something I just adore. Seeing these cars some would consider lower echelon becoming full-blown powerhouses almost out of nowhere. Something that a lot of cars have kinda lost. Sure, the Focus is a cheap, fun car, but it's been pretty heavily involved with motorsport that it kinda loses its luster.
Cases like this fucking drift Corolla. Who fucking cares about the Toyota Corolla? It's arguably played second fiddle to the Celica for a long time, but here you have this one that's a part of the Formula Drift circuit, sporting over a thousand horsepower, it's barely even close to the original. But god you have to just love this thing. The engineering behind it, the sheer insanity of it. The gall to take something so basic, so common, and make it a contender in the drift scene. That is some real love for the little guy. A love that has really been left wanting in the modern times.
In a world where you have active-aero so ridiculously advanced it tilts in 20 different directions at different speeds on a road car, there's not much fun for the little guy. There's a reason that so many slower, yet interesting cars are all 15+ years old. Automakers, owners, hell, most people don't have cars to care about these days. The age of the SUV is upon us. And yeah, some of those are pretty interesting, fast and powerful. But even the 70's and 80's put out more interesting garbage than most modern stuff. Just look at the new Integra. What about that screams "Integra?"
This was a bunch of rambling that really didn't pay much attention to the topic I wanted to talk about, but maybe the point gets across. Power and luxury don't make a dream car, always. Just spirit, a love for the machine, and maybe just a pinch of personal experience.

If someone isn't a "car person" and just uses their car for transportation from A to B, then it will be harder to explain. But everyone's life is different. Some people may buy a sports car because they are enthusiasts and always have been. They like the look and feel of driving one. Others may want a status symbol, while others yet may have had a life experience in their past such as working on an old sports car with their dad in the garage when they were younger, or they hit a mid-life crisis and need to revive some of that energy from going fast back into their lives. Lots of people don't have kids to haul around or if they do they have a daily driver that is more suited to it. For me, an enthusiast, I like to go to meetups like Cars and Coffee to see other's cars and talk with like-minded people. You don't get Honda Odyssey meetup groups.

I'll be turning 50 soon.
We all "come of age" many times in our lives. The triggering event can be a milestone birthday, or a significant event in your life. Hitting one of the big decades can make a person look up from their life, get perspective and make new choices. The classic example is the mid-life crisis; the trope is that a guy gets divorced, buys a new sports car, buys new clothes and starts dating younger women.
Or there's the "Brush with death" trope: Someone has an accident or illness and suddenly realizes how precious life is, and how little of it we have.
Or Empty Nest: the kids have moved on and are managing their own lives. Without the children to define you, who do you want to be?
But they're all moments where our lives change. From childhood to young adulthood, from young adulthood to parenthood. Then there's "the midlife crisis" and maybe "becoming the elder of the village."
Those stories we see a lot, but what about "young adulthood to mature adulthood?" Buying that first house, or getting that promotion that really lets your career take off? Finding a lasting partner? Choosing to go back to school to learn a new skill or trade?
My stepmother was in her 50s when she married my father. Her kids were grown and graduated. She had always wanted to be a doctor but she stared a family instead. She went back to med school in her late 50s and is a practicing D.O. now.
My friend put together his own HVAC business after his kids were in grade school. He went to trade school and stared his business.
My other friend figured out that she was a woman after her first grandchild was born.
My (claimed) sister is a practicing M.D. but during Covid she reacquainted herself with her love of music. She now has a grand piano and loves it.
My (blood) brother dated fiercely independent, strong women but none of them wanted to get married or have kids. He finally found the right person in his late 30s, and became a father in his 40s. (And he's the BEST Papa in the world.)
My grandmother was in her 90s and living in a nursing home and found a boyfriend.
My partner had some fully catastrophic legal shit come down on him in his 40s. He turned 50 and had to completely reinvent himself.
Wouldn't you like to hear more about those stories?
That post about 30 year old coming of age stories?
I’ve been thinking about it all morning. What would the plot points be for that? What makes a 30 year old coming of age story?
Old folks sound off in the comments

My Quarter-Life Crisis is trying to kill me. | MillennialMomManifesto
My kid was watching a nursery rhyme that said "Don't throw your junk in my back yard, my backyard’s full," and I froze, my mind spiraling until I sank into the floor and cried, Summer Walker style. Panic attack? Adult tantrum? How many times are my peers and women of my generation finding ourselves in positions like this?... And Why...?
The more I gain the confidence to speak with my peers about instances like these or the catalysts for such, I realize things like this are happening to most of us right now. Our unhappiness is mentally & physically showing itself in our faith, health, mind, bodies, actions and reactions.
Sociologists say "Mid-Life" by today's standards is between ages 35-75 🧐
What do you count as middle-aged? At almost 30, I feel like I used to think this was it, but now, I refuse to accept that. All my life society and media showed us mid-life crises were usually for 30 or 40-something year old men buying sports cars and trading in their wives for newer models, but today what does that look like?
I'm calling it a quarter life crisis (and not mid-life crisis) because if the people in the Bible lived hundreds of years & there are still Centenarian Blue Zones on this modern day planet, I hope this is not the middle. I hoping we have so much more to go. Most people want to live longer and climb the proverbial ladder quicker - so that's where the crisis kicks in. My peers and I are trying not to be crushed under student debt, living costs that don't match the wage gaps, and dreams we don't know how to make come true, but still daily haunt us. Queue the panic about not being where we thought we would by now or how much we feel we should have gotten accomplished and comparison to our peers' highlight reels online.
Being super is tough: It's a constant battle of figuring out when to use your powers (for good or for evil), balancing your secret identity, maintaining your energy and constantly improving your powers or learning new ones.
Good Vs. Evil: Remember that panic from earlier? You know, the panic enacted by milestones you thought you would reach by now? Write down what you want, how you want to get it, and form a timeline to make it happen. Seeing your plan on paper can help ground you.
Secret Identity: Make the best of this time! Even if it doesn’t feel like it, you are supposed to be here in this moment. There is more than one way to navigate life, careers, etc. Why else would there be so many paths if people were not meant to be different and explore different options. Do what works for you! Your powers are different form the supe next to you, and there are still muggles and mortals with no powers at all. Queue the Gratitude & Mindfullness.
Maintaining Energy: They say life gets better with age, so think of yourself and where you were 1, 3, 5, and even 10 years ago! You would KILL to know, do, have the things you do now & you learn daily how to do this life thing a little bit better than yesterday. Consider this quarter or midlife crisis a pitstop for refocus, weather this transition with reflection and grace for yourself. Identify the wisdom you have and apply it to new areas.
"The purpose of your life is to find your gift, the work of life is to develop it, and the meaning of life is to give it away."
As far as Powers: I leave you with this quote:
"Midlife is when the primary operating system of your life shifts from the ego to the soul. It's a period when people start to rearrange what gives meaning to themselves."
As a 'SuperMom' This is How I'm Running on Sustainable & Renewable Energy:

Podcast #776: How to Shift Out of the Midlife Malaise
Note: This is a rebroadcast. When you think about someone having a midlife crisis, you probably think of a man getting divorced, stepping out with a younger woman, and buying a sports car. But my guest today says the often jokey, mockable trope of the midlife crisis we have in our popular culture discounts the fact that the sense of dissatisfaction people can feel in their middle years is quite real, and that the questions it raises are profond, philosophical, and worth earnestly grappling with. His name is Kieran Setiya, and he’s a professor of philosophy and the author of Midlife: A Philosophical Guide. Kieran and I first discuss what researchers have uncovered about whether the midlife crisis really exists, how it might be better described as a kind of midlife malaise, and how Kieran’s own sense of life dissatisfaction began when he was only in his mid-thirties. We then explore the philosophical reframing that can help in dealing with the existential issues that the journey into midlife often raises, including feeling like you’ve missed out on certain possibilities and feeling regret over your mistakes and misfortunes. We also talk about how to shift out of one primary cause of the midlife malaise — the sense that your life is merely about putting out fires and checking off boxes. I finally figured out the reason ppl get fat.. it has nothing to do with liking food but bc ppl don’t get sex on subscription… that ppl buy food to trick themselves to thinking it’s better than sex and cheaper than paying someone to live with them to fuck them after work. I find myself ordering pizzas from Papa Johns out of boredom and that’s probably bc I don’t drive a 2 door sports car and GTA 6 isn’t out yet. So best thing you can do for yourself is have a “mid-life crisis” and buy that stupid Honda Miata and take girls out on it to see movies instead of getting fat or looking for sex from masseuses.
Also I dont understand why sex isn’t a subscription.. if ppl are forced to sign up for sex addiction services why can’t it be the other way around.. 😪 stupid country just wants us to die fattily. In other countries sex is a service and it should be here too.

Hey, how are you doing? For the first time ever since I’m with my partner, I can’t envision a future with him (nor can I envision one without him). This really startled me the other day and made me be questioning everything for some days now. We’ve been together for more than 5 years, living together for more than 3, and recently bought an apartment together. Another day it also crossed my mind that if he asked me to marry him, I’m not sure I’d say yes, when I’ve spent all these years telling him I want to marry him. I don’t know what’s going on. I know my life isn’t corresponding to my expectations, not even the smallest bit, but I always had a good relationship. He’s mostly happy with the life we have and with our relationship, but more and more I feel like something is lacking in my life, and it’s getting up to my perception of him. I don’t like this state. I want to envision my future with him once again.
You had a vision for your life, it hasn't turned out the way you expected and now you are disillusioned.
It sounds like a classic quarter-life or mid-life crisis.
I googled it, looking for solutions and there are BUNCHES of solutions.
Most of it is pretty logical and makes sense with a lot of self help suggestions that are rolling around and that probably means that there's not any one answer to your problem but a whole host of possibilities that might or might not help your particular situation.
You might want to notice that while your life is not turning out the way you wanted it to turn out, one aspect of it IS working, your relationship, but you are taking your dissatisfaction with the REST of your life and pinning it on your boyfriend and relationship.
If this were a movie, it would have the middle age hero buying a red sports car and cheating on his wife with his hot secretary.
Sorry. Is that not sympathetic?
I suppose I'm asking you to take a step back and look at your situation and your FEELINGS about the situation. I mean maybe you do need to break up with your boyfriend, I'm not ruling that out, but maybe it's transference, and it would help you more to reassess the old dreams and visions of your life you used to have and create new ones that fit your life and goals and also, sadly, reality.
I don't blame you for feeling this way. It's normal and it's been especially difficult these last few years as institutions we trusted seem to be falling apart and we are losing opportunities that used to be taken for granted.
Lets look for some brief suggestions that might help.
Don't panic. Life has natural ebbs and flows, and that includes your satisfaction and moods.
Practice self care-- whatever that means to you. Do things that feed you instead of depleting you.
Find a passion to engage your interests. Maybe it's a new hobby, maybe it's an old one, maybe it's about giving back to your community.
Keep a journal to explore your dreams, goals, fears, worries, gratitude, etc.
Stop comparing yourself to other. Even to your old self. This is who you are and where you are right now. You can only start from here.
I think that's a good place to start, but you can also google and see if there are other solutions that fit your struggle better.

Can I say that I think a lot of people took the “ midlife crisis” thing the wrong way? I personally feel like Bee is around 25 in human years and the comment about his alt mode was because humans who go through a mid life crisis buy really fancy sports cars. Any way that’s just me
i need to see young bee in earthspark again so bad. i wanna know how and under what circumstances exactly did he change his altmode. another episode like Warzone would be so epic, and i was lowkey hoping they'd mention something in his Stowed Away, Stowaways episode, but they didn't :(
there's this odd feeling when you watch the show that he's hiding something. he's not talking about his past unless being spoken to (i already talked about this here), in these new episodes he's extremely self-sacrificing (for a higher purpose and for his family, sure, but still). it can't be simply from "midlife crisis", i don't believe that for a second. its a funny gag, but there should be a backbone from the way he acts now, there must be
what was he like during the war? from the tiny flashback we got in Warzone, he seemed kind ("Sorry, Shrapnel."), and you can bet five bucks he was naive. i can just feel it. so he's not naive anymore - cautious, distrusting to outsiders, especially to Decepticons (Breakdown hardly counts, but only hardly)
i don't know how to end this. i'm rotating him in my brain like crazy thank god for earthspark bumblebee

I just realised that there’s a 99% chance that Jon spent both his and Martin’s birthday’s in the coma so I’m just imagining like
Jon, in the safehouse at some stage: Martin I am twenty nine years old I can assure you that-
Martin, laughter suddenly cutting of: ... Thirty. You’re thirty.
Jon: What? No, you’re a few months older, we’re definitely both twenty nine-
Martin: Jon. I am thirty. You are thirty. Did you seriously not realise this?
Jon, suddenly pale: Oh my god the fucking coma. I’m old. You’re old. We need to go... buy a sports car or something, what else do people do for a mid life crisis?
Martin: I would inform you that thirty does not technically qualify as middle age and has not for the last hundred years, but I’m still worried that you somehow hadn’t noticed
Jon, hands bunched in his hair: I had other priorities!!

a baby changes everything pt.2
pairing: do kyungsoo x (reader) genre/warning: artificial insemination, fluff word count: 3.6k description: when you decided to have a baby, you knew everything would change, but this is not what you expected… parts: o1 | a/n: october installment of our ‘trying to write a kyungsoo story for every month that he is gone’ series.
A fresh pile of folders thuds on your desk, and you raise an eye to the Filing Clerk who offers a weak smile. “You said you wanted the reports from the last three years.”
You did. You need them, but they forebode a long day. “Park wants my analysis by this evening?” You clarify, and he nods. You return the gesture before grabbing a clip and twisting
your hair up and out of your face. No time like the present to begin.
An alert sounds on your phone when you’re at the halfway point of the report pile. Resurfacing from the sea of numbers, you check the notification and suppress a string of curses. “Parent Teacher Conference” flashes on the screen. You had forgotten. You had promised your son you would remember, and you had forgotten.
The remaining half of the report pile mocks you. You have thirty minutes until the conference and no hope of making it through in time. You swipe away the alert to reveal your lock screen, a photo from Theo’s seventh birthday. Theo had covered the both of you in cake while Kyungsoo, standing behind you, managed to remain cake-free. You pick up the phone to call in the cavalry.
When you had chosen to undergo artificial insemination, against the advice and protestation of your family, you had been prepared to be a single mother. You knew, or at least thought you knew, the challenges you would face and were prepared to handle each one as they arose. After the first weeks with no sleep, no chance to shower, and no concept of self, you had been more than happy to have someone who would come on the first call.
Kyungsoo answers on the first ring. As the heir and president of a multinational corporation, one would expect to reach a secretary or voice-mail, but he answers each time.
“If Theo is still insisting that his grandfather will get him a pony for Christmas, know that I have spoken with his grandfather about it.”
“Theo hasn’t said anything about a pony.” You switch the phone to your other ear and close the file in front of you. “Have I missed a conversation?” The other end remains silent.
“Rather than offer other suggestions for your call, please tell me why you are calling.”
You chew the inside of your cheek for a moment before deciding the parent teacher conference is the more pressing issue. Kyungsoo agrees the moment you mention it. He already had it on his schedule. You can hear him climbing into his car before the call ends. With crisis averted, you return to the pile of reports.
Kyungsoo texts you when the conference ends – it went well - and asks if he can take Theo to dinner and ice cream. You agree. You have nearly finished your analysis but still need to do some grocery shopping, and grocery shopping is always easier without a seven-year-old.
They are waiting at the park down the street from your apartment when you walk by with your arm full of groceries. The bags dig into your arms, and a stray strand of hair refuses to leave your eye alone no matter how many times you blow it out of the way. After another failed attempt, you call out to the two. Theo stops mid jabber and races towards you. His face bright with enthusiasm. He restarts his jabbering as he skids to a stop in front of you. Kyungsoo follows at a milder pace. You glance from your son to him. “I take it you know what he’s saying.” You joke as you shift a bag further up your hip and blow at the stray strand again.
“Only because I was there when it happened.” He reaches forward and brushes the strand behind your ear. His fingertips graze your temple as he does. A shiver races down your spine, and you blame it on the cool autumn breeze. Taking one of the bags from you, he starts down the sidewalk to your apartment.
“I was telling you about the parent teacher conference...which you missed.” Theo huffs as he stretches his legs to match his father’s gait. You walk beside him, sandwiching the boy between you and Kyungsoo.
“I do want to hear all about that, but first what’s this I hear about a pony?” You stare down at him, and he stares at his shoes, his shoulders rising to cover his ears. “Theo?”
“The last time I was with grandpa I just said I would like a pony. I didn’t mean he had to buy me one.” He darts his gaze to you, then to his dad. Kyungsoo keeps a straight face as he stares ahead, so your son turns back to you.
You shake your head, and he smiles a toothless grin. He had lost another tooth a week ago and took every opportunity to show off the incoming big boy tooth. “What have I told you about your grandfather?”
He sighs, his tiny frame collapsing with the loss of breath, but he manages to roll his head back and stares up at the night sky. “Just because Grandpa has all the money doesn’t mean I should ask him for everything.”
“Because?”
“Because things do not make me happy.” His conviction is lacking, but you nod, encouraging him on. “And I have everything I need.”
“That’s right.” You three stop in front of the entrance to your apartment building. “Now, take that grocery bag from your father and thank him for all his help today.” His body droops even further, but he holds out his arms.
Kyungsoo clutches the bag tighter to him. “I can carry it up.”
“That’s okay. You’ve done enough.” The words slip out before you can comprehend their double meaning. Kyungsoo’s face turns to stone. “I’m sure you have work waiting for you.” You try to salvage the situation. “And Theo is more than capable of carrying groceries.”
He nods. A forced smile pushes against his cheeks, but he drops to his knees to pull Theo into a one-armed hug before handing him the bag. When he stands, you two stare at each other. His fingers twitch, ready to reach out for you. And he could. It would be normal, natural, but you remain rooted to the concrete. In the end, he waves, an awkward gesture, and is gone.
Even after seven years, you are still trying to figure out your relationship with Kyungsoo. When you had selected sperm for insemination, you had never expected to meet the donor or have any form of relationship with him. Fate is funny though. Before you had even given birth to Theo, Kyungsoo entered your life. He was there when Theo was born, and within that first month stepped into the role of co-parent. He watched him take his first steps, have his first birthday, go off to his first day of school. But he has also stood beside you when you quit your job, when you needed a plus-one to social functions, when your dad had his heart attack. Co-parent no longer seems to fit him, but nothing else does.
“I think my teacher likes Dad.” Theo pulls you back to the present as you reach your front door.
You unlock the door and hold it open for him, sneaking through with the groceries before it closes on you. “Why do you say that?”
“Because she kept going like this while we were talking.” He faces you and flutters his eyelashes. “And she laughed at everything he said, and you said that if a girl does those things it means she likes you.”
You nod along, the conversation fresh in your memory. He had come home in a state last week with many questions about girls. You had answered as many of them as you could and told him some would have to wait until he was older.
Setting the grocery bags on the counter, you start to pull things out and hand Theo the cold food for him to put away in the fridge. “Do you think your dad liked her back?” The question surprises you.
Theo shakes his head. “No. He kept doing this:” he clears his throat, loudly and pointedly, “anytime she asked him a question that wasn’t about me.”
You smother a snort and mask any sound which may have escaped with the folding of the bags. “That sounds like your dad.” The image of Kyungsoo in a too small desk forcing a starry-eyed woman back on topic threatens to unleash another snort.
“Mom, do you like Dad?” You choke on air as you face Theo. He stares at you all innocence.
“Of course, I like your dad. He’s a good dad.” You grab a handful of groceries and head for the pantry before he can ask a follow up question. “Now tell me what you talked about with your teacher and slower this time.”
He huffs but answers. “She said I should join a sports club because it would be good for my social development.” His voice goes high and airy with the last words, and you know he is quoting her verbatim.
“What did your dad say?” You ask as you grab the remaining food and head back to the pantry.
“He agreed with my teacher, and she gave him a list of the clubs.” Theo closes the fridge and climbs up on one of the counter’s stools.
“Do you have the list?” He shakes his head, and you make a mental note to ask Kyungsoo for a copy. “Do you want to join one of the clubs?” He nods. “Which one?”
“Soccer.”
You change the mental note to ask Kyungsoo what you will need to do to sign him up and who to contact about schedules and equipment. “That sounds fun. Now, you’ve still got an hour of homework time before bed.” He groans, but you pat him on the butt, shooing him off to his room.
“Mom, where are my cleats?”
“In your closet on the bottom shelf.” You hear the clatter of toppling boxes, followed by thuds which you assume are shoes being thrown aside. Someone will have a room to clean after their game. You make the mental note as you finish up the snack pack: almonds, grapes, and dark chocolate, a perfect pick me up during half time.
“Theo, are you ready?” You ask as you dump ice on the top of the cooler bag and zip it up. After two more crashes, your son appears in the kitchen, dressed in his full kit including his cleats. “What have I told you about wearing your cleats in the house?”
“Mom!” He whines, his shoulders dropping in exasperation. He, thankfully, refrains from stomping his foot.
“Don’t ‘mom’ me. Do you see those scuffs on the floor?” He twists his torso to glance at the living room floor he nonchalantly raced through. Thin white lines scar the dark wood. He faces you again and offers a grimace in apology. “Take them off, put them in your bag, and wear your sneakers until we get to the field.”
He opens his mouth, ready to protest, but one look from you silences him. He crouches down and begins to unlace his cleats. “Is dad almost here?” Kyungsoo had offered to pick you and Theo up, saving you from a forty-five-minute bus ride.
“Yes,” you grab your phone from the counter to double check his last text. “By the time you finish what I told you to do, he will be here.” Tucking the phone in your back pocket, you grab your purse.
“Which car is he bringing?” Theo glances up at you, cleats in hand. His eyes shine with expectation.
“Why does that matter?” You cross your arms and arch a brow.
He has the decency to look sheepish. “I was just wondering.”
“And I was just wondering how long it’s going to take you to put on your sneakers.” He darts off and you shake your head.
Theo reappears wearing his sneakers and with his athletic bag slung over his shoulder. You do a final check of the apartment before grabbing the cooler bag and heading down to the parking garage where you know Kyungsoo will be waiting.
He is waiting by the elevator doors. The cooler bag is off your shoulder before you even start your greeting, not that you have a chance to give one. Theo is off, talking a mile a minute, as soon as he sees his dad. Kyungsoo smiles and nods along to the excited chatter. He offers you a smile, the only greeting he can manage with Theo’s barrage. You return the greeting as you follow him to his car which to Theo’s delight is the Range Rover.
“Soobin is going to be so jealous!” He comments as he climbs in.
“One of his teammates.” You answer Kyungsoo’s furrowed brow. “Apparently, he and Theo have a bit of rivalry about whose dad is better.”
“Mine is. Soobin is stupid.”
“Theo!” You scold. Kyungsoo closes the door, saving him from your reprimand. You glare at him, but he is already walking to the back to place the cooler in the trunk. “Boys.” You sigh as you climb into the car.
Theo’s team wins. While neither of the goals was his, he did have an assist. Soobin did score a goal, and the brewing foul mood was visible to both you and Kyungsoo which was why you both enthusiastically celebrated his skills when he trudged over after the game. Kyungsoo picked him up, a feat which will become impossible in the coming years, and promised dinner at his favorite restaurant.
The three of you sit around a table laden with food. Kyungsoo had also promised him he could have anything he wanted off the menu, and Theo, the growing boy that he is, ordered more than he could consume in five dinners. You throw a look at Kyungsoo as the waiter places the last dish on the table, but he shrugs and helps Theo load food onto his plate. You grab a plate of your own and begin to fill it more modestly.
“Has work calmed down at all?” Kyungsoo asks as Theo’s mouth is too full to continue talking.
You shake your head. “Unfortunately, not. I have a pile of folders on my desk waiting for me on Monday, and I’m sure more folders will be added to it before Monday even arrives. Mr. Park said he would hire an assistant for me, but I have yet to hear of any interviews, though I’ve reminded him.” You pause, biting on your fork as you think. “Three times now. I’m ready to send him a very nasty email depending on how bad Monday is.”
“I do know the CEO of your company.” Kyungsoo suggests as he leans across the table to grab a side dish. “We’ve attended social functions together.”
“Don’t you dare.” You wag your fork at him. “I am more than capable of handling Mr. Park. Besides, he’s not that bad, and I wouldn’t want him peeing his pants after a phone call from the CEO.”
“You still pee your pants as a grown up?” Theo joins the conversation, horror contorting his features. He had to wear pull-ups to bed until he was four. When he went a whole week without wetting the bed, Kyungsoo had taken you two on a weekend trip to the beach.
“Some people do, especially if you get a call from your boss’s boss’s boss.” You side eye Kyungsoo. He smothers a smile. “You don’t have anything to worry about though. You dad would never let that happen to you.”
“Of course not, because dad is going to be my boss.” Confidence brims from his eyes as he inhales another mouthful. You glance at Kyungsoo who shakes his head.
“Theo, where did you hear that?” He asks.
“Grandpa.” Though with all the food in his mouth, it sounds more like “fampfa”. He swallows and continues. “He said that when I grow-up I’m going to work at the company and when dad is done working that I’m going to have his job.”
“Do you want to work at my company?” Kyungsoo’s question eases the chokehold that you have on your fork, and you reach for your glass of water as you remind yourself to remain calm.
Kyungsoo put an end to his family’s machinations to steal your son long before Theo was born.
Theo’s lips purse, and he rocks his head from side to side before shaking it firmly. “I don’t think so. Your work is boring. I want to have a fun job.” Kyungsoo snorts. The uncharacteristic gesture pulls a laugh from you. Within moments, the table is full of laughter.
The combination of the game, a full meal, and the gentle hum of the car ride puts Theo to sleep before you reach home. Kyungsoo carries him up to the apartment for you. While you know you should wake him to shower and change, his face, soft with sleep, convinces you to let Kyungsoo place him in his bed. You need to wash the sheets anyway.
Kyungsoo returns to the kitchen as you are pulling a bottle of wine from the hiding place in the pantry. “A nightcap?” He asks, stopping at the counter.
“I need a drink.” You go to the cabinet and pull out two glass. “Would you like some?” He nods, and you fill both, yours a little more generously than his.
He cups the glass, swirling the liquid, as you take a large gulp of yours. “Is this about my father?” He watches the dark liquid coat the edges of the glass.
You lean back against the counter next to him and nod. “I’m grateful that Theo has a relationship with his grandfather, but I need him to realize that Theo is not his heir and that he can’t just buy him whatever he wants. At the same time though, I wonder if I am a bad mom because I’m stopping someone from buying him a pony.”
“You’re not a bad mom. Theo doesn’t need a pony. If he was going to pursue Equestrian Sports, maybe.” He shrugs, smiling at you. “But I think he is happy with soccer.”
You snort, taking another sip of your wine. “Did you do Equestrian Sports when you were his age?”
“No, but I did have a horse.” You raise a brow. “I barely rode him. There wasn’t time. My father was training me to be his heir.”
“And that’s exactly what I don’t want for Theo.” You glance at Kyungsoo and find that you have slid closer to him. The wine warms your body, and you find your attention drawn to his lips as he speaks.
“I know. I’ll talk with my father.” His voice is low and husky. His lips vibrating with the words. Wine coats them, making them shine in the dim light. Perhaps, you should have turned on more lights than the lamp in the living room. Theo’s question comes back to you. Do you like Kyungsoo? “Y/N?”
You shake your head, clearing the alcohol from your thoughts. A stray hair falls into your face. “Sorry. Thank you.” You try to focus, your hand going to brush the hair out of your eye.
Kyungsoo’s hand reaches it first. He tucks it behind your ear. His hand lingers on your cheek. His fingertips light on your skin. “Sorry.” He whispers. Your cheek grows cold as he reclaims his glass and swallows a gulp. “I should call a driver. This wine is hitting harder than I expected.”
“Or,” the word slips out, and you blame the wine for loosening your lips. “You could stay the night. The couch pulls out, and I have a spare set of your clothes.” You keep your gaze fixed on the living room lamp. “It’s been a bit since we’ve got to enjoy one of your breakfasts.” You add on when the silence stretches between you.
“I see. You just want me for my body.” He breaks the tension.
You snort. The wine in your glass sloshing and threatening to spill out. “If that’s what you want to think then sure.”
He takes the glass from you and sets it on the counter next to his. You’ve both had enough wine for tonight. “Do you have stuff for breakfast tomorrow?”
“My fridge is stocked with every healthy thing imaginable.”
“Healthy.” He scrunches up his nose. His glasses fall down the bridge when he relaxes it, and you fight the urge to take them off.
“Is that a yes or no?” You speak around the lump in your throat.
He thinks. The moments tick by as you berate yourself for asking something too stupid and risqué. Kyungsoo is Theo’s dad. No matter how blurred the line between you two grows that line will always be as crisp as a fresh stroke on paper, and you should be avoiding anything that could complicate that relationship.
“Yes.” You blink at Kyungsoo and wonder if hope has spread a filter over your ears. “Y/N?”
“Awesome.” You answer, assured that you heard correctly. “I’ll go get the clothes.” You start towards your bedroom but throw over your shoulder. “Since it is still early, but only if you’re up for it, there is this new movie on Netflix that I’ve been wanting to watch.”
“So, Netflix and chill?”
Stuttering to a halt, you whip your head around. He smiles at you all innocence. “You’re ridiculous.” He shrugs. With a shake of your head, you march into your room, his laughter trailing after you.

stray kids as anime boys: bang chan [part 1] [part 2]
✎ᝰ┆bang chan as the sports captain
(feat. stray kids && some of the 97liners)
listen
this is the only role I am 100% convince chan will be in an anime
u can't change my mind ᕦ(ò_ó)ᕤ
S O let's get into it
what sports captain is he??
the question should be what sports captain is he not
d-does that make sense?? HDHS U GET WHAT I MEAN
look chan is build™ with muscles (and brains) he's gonna use those muscles
for s p o r t s
"chan u can't join all the sports club"
“watch me felix”
ya boi tried out for every sports club available in school and he got into to every one of them
THANKFULLY felix made him reject some(most) of them bc chan already doesn't sleep enough
everyone say thank u felix
so chan is in the volleyball and basketball club
and he's the volleyball captain!!!
chan is the secret weapon lemme tell u that
his spikes?? they can BREAK A WALL
so if u see chan practicing spikes pls be careful
avoid him
avoid the gym in general
unless ur asking for a concussion SKSKS
no joke there's a dent in one of the gym's wall bc he spiked too hard
his excuse was "bambam ur supposed to block it!"
"I WAS TRYING NOT TO DIE CHRISTOPHER!!!"
so how does that apply to u dear reader
well, ur not a huge sports fan
u rather stay at home and watch netflix than go under that cursed fireball u call a sun
but yk who is a huge sports fan???
ur best friends chaeyeon and lisa!
well technically bc chaeyeon is dating jaehyun who's also on the volleyball team
and lisa swears she doesn't but obviously she's there to look at jungkook
"y/n! there's a game after school today, and you're coming with us to watch it"
"just admit u wanna look at jungkook and go"
"WITH WHAT PROOF????"
"WITH THOSE HEART EYES LALISA"
"HHHHHHH CHAEYEON, Y/N IS BULLYING ME AGAIN"
Σ(°ロ°) "WHAT DO U MEAN AGAIN??? WHO WAS THE ONE WHO PUT CHILLI PEPPERS IN MY SANDWICH HUHH LISA WHOOOO—"
mama chaeyeon saves the day, "alright children no more fighting"
"SHE STARTED IT FIRST!"
"FIGHT ME LISA" (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ
in the spongebob narrative voice 2 hours later
u find urself in sandwiched between chaeyeon and lisa, sitting on one of the gym's bleachers
chan and the boys are down there warming up
and u can't help but drift ur gaze to a certain (crispy)blond hair boy, who's stretching at the moment
maybe u were starting too long, but lisa nudges ur elbow with a sly smirk
"ohohoho y/n, what do u see??"
u shove her elbow away and glare at her, "ur about to see my fists in a minute"
the entire game ur gaze was set on chan and u don't even know why
jokes on u reader, it was the anime magic kicking in
up until the second half of the game, u had the sudden need to go to the bathroom and who are u to deny ur bladder dhhshd
"I'm gonna go to the bathroom," you tell lisa and stood up to squeeze ur way out of the bleachers
ur earbuds almost burst due to all the screaming dhshhd
but hey! u successfully made it to the end
\(@ ̄∇ ̄@)/
u make ur way towards the exit when u hear lisa and chaeyeon scream your name
and suddenly the world went black
y/n?? y/n??? oh my god she fuckin dead
maybe u regain conscious for a few seconds bc the last thing u remembered was a pair of feet running and the scent of someone's sweat mixed with cologne
yk the typical anime shit dhsjdjs
when u wake up, ur laying down a bed and ur in a room where u don't recognise
"holy shit y/n, you're awake! lisa go get the nurse!" chaeyeon exclaims from beside you and you hear the door close
you squint your eyes, trying to adjust from the bright light
chaeyeon's face comes into view and she has a worried expression on
"w-what happened?? where am I??" you ask she helps you sit up on the bed
"you're in the nurse's office!"
"why,,, am I in the nurse's office?" you furrow your eyebrows at chaeyeon
"well you see—"
the door slams open to reveal lisa and the nurse
"oh good, y/n you're awake," the nurse smiles at you
she walks toward you and gently grabs your chin with her gloved hand to examine your face
"fortunately nothing is broken but that's gonna leave a bruise on your forehead for a while, you took quite a hit."
"a hit???" u furrow ur eyebrows even deeper if you could sjdjsk
"yeah! you got hit by a volleyball!! you should've seen what happened, the ball went flying like WOOOSH at you and BAM u were knocked out!!" lisa explains with many hand gestures
"it was a good thing that chan boy carried you here, you were out cold," the nurse adds.
wait
Σ(゜゜) c-chan???
CHAN CARRIED YOU HERE???
u don't even notice your face starts to heat up until the nurse looks at you with concern again
she places her hand against ur forehead and says, "oh my, you're heating up, I think you got a fever coming—"
"no! no, I'm completely fine!" you reassure the nurse
you bring your hands up to your cheeks and rub it harshly and slap it a few times in hopes the redness will go away
HAH SIKE UR BLOOD SAYS NO
the nurse let's you stay in the office for awhile, thank god school was already over
lisa and chaeyeon, like the best friends they were, stayed with u and walked u back home
the next morning when u wake up
━Σ(゚Д゚|||)━
HOLY SHIT THE NURSE WAS NOT KIDDING WHEN SHE SAID IT WAS GONNA LEAVE A BRUISE
THERE'S A HUGE ASS BUMP ON THE MIDDLE OF YOUR FOREHEAD
WHAT THE FUCK
HOW THE FUCK ARE U GONNA COVER THAT UP
U ARE THIS )( CLOSE IN CUTTING UR BANGS AT 7 IN THE MORNING JUST TO COVER UR FOREHEAD* U WOULD'VE IF UR BRAT OF A BROTHER DIDN'T KNOCK ON THE DOOR
"y/n hurry up you're gonna make us late!!"
"SHUT UP HYUNJIN I'M HAVING A MID LIFE CRISIS AT THE MOMENT"
"YOU CAN HAVE IT IN THE CAR"
in all honesty u should be thanking hyunjin for saving u from the future regrets
otw out of the bathroom u curse at hyunjin, who sticks his tongue out in return, and grab one of ur beanies from ur dresser and slip it on
"why the fuck are you wearing a beanie in the middle of summer??"
"it's called fashion hyunjin, look it up"
(hyunjin, snorting) "please, we all know I'm the fashionable one in this family"
so yes, u walk into school with a beanie on ur head, in the middle of summer
it definitely caught weird looks from people because again, why the fuck are you wearing a beanie in this heat???
it's equivalent to having a "I'm stupid" sign taped on ur forehead
u walk into class, already tired from everything and everyone and first period hasn't even started yet!
what a mood
chaeyeon looks at you weirdly and opens her mouth to ask but you stop her
"don't. a lot of people already asked," you groaned, pointing at the black beanie on your head, specifically the spot where u got hit at
chaeyeon looks at you with sympathy and pats your head
when lunch rolls on, lisa basically slams into ur classroom
"why are u wearing a beanie??"
"because I can and it's a free country!!!" u snap at her
"geez fine," lisa puts her hands up
(lisa, mumbling under her breath) "someone woke up from the wrong side of bed today"
"HEY I HEARD THA—"
"OKAAAAY let's go I wanna get pizza bread before it's gone," chaeyeon interrupts aka stopping another fight from happening by hooking her arms through yours and lisa’s* (¬、¬) hnnggg u win today jung chaeyeon
u turn to walk out of the door when u stop in your footsteps
to see the PERSON WHO CAUSE UR FOREHEAD BUMP BRENDA
YES U NAMED IT BRENDA IN THE CAR
IF SHE'S GONNA STAY ON UR FOREHEAD FOR A WHILE
AT LEAST SHE SHOULD HAVE A NAME
AND SHE'S NOT EVEN PAYING RENT
y/n's forehead:
brenda the bump: it's a free real estate
anyways
the three of u stop and stare at chan
like hullo, why u here???
chan coughs awkwardly and rubs the back of his neck. "um, can I speak with y/n?"
chaeyeon and lisa exchange a look and shrugs, "yeah sure," they say and pushes u out of the door
and u stumbled into his arms
again, the anime shit™ working its magic
u immediately push urself off chan and clasp ur hands behind ur back while chan takes a few steps back
"so,,," you start
"oh right! uh, I'm sorry for yesterday, hitting u with the ball and everything"
"oh! it's fine, it really is!" you assure him
"no, it's not! lemme treat you to lunch, it's the least I can do," chan says
"nononono you really don't have to!" you shake ur head at him
"please!" he begs, "I hurt you and I should do something for you"
"n—"
"JUST SAY YES" lisa yells from across the hall
you whip ur head towards her direction and flip her the bird
chaeyeon mouths an apology and drags lisa away, but her laughter rings through the empty hallway
you turn back to chan who's looking at you with pleading eyes
"pleaseee" (´・ᴗ・`)
GOD HE'S ADORABLE
"fine!"
"YAY"
"but!" u wag ur finger at him, "ur only allowed to buy me chocolate milk"
"yes!!" he cheers and drags u off to the school's convenience store to buy you a bottle of chocolate milk
u thought he was gonna get u the cheap one but nO
HE GETS U THE EXPENSIVE ONE
THE ONE THAT COSTS LIKE 3 DOLLARS
FIRST OF ALL, CHOCOLATE MILK SHOULD NOT BE THAT EXPENSIVE
FUCK CAPITALISM
secondly, if u thought this was a one time thing
hAH READER YOU ARE SO SO SO WRONG
it soon becomes a regular thing and every morning, there is a chocolate milk on ur desk with a cute stick it note saying "good morning ♡´・ᴗ・`♡"
GAH UR HEART
and everyday after school, chan walks up to u and ask "hey y/n! did u get the chocolate milk?"
and he will pout if u show him the untouched bottle of milk
so u make sure that u drink it during lunch where he can see u drinking it
and it makes his insides all mushy and squishy
and that escalates to him waiting by ur locker every morning!!
he waits for u by ur locker and when u walk in
he fucking beams at you
the sun who??? u only know a bang chan
he hands u the chocolate milk and greets u
"good morning, y/n!"
and ur hearts does it usual schedule bang-chan-caused-flips
AND THAT ESCALATES TO U GOING TO HIS GAMES
"I thought u hated these things??"
"well I do but chan asked me to come so—"
(lisa, wiggling her eyebrows) "oh chan huh"
"hdshhdshutup"
so here u are again, sandwiched in between lisa and chaeyeon
o wow ur feeling a sense of deja vu
chan spots u in the crowd and runs over to u
"try not to get hit by any balls this time," he grins as he ruffles ur hair
"friendly reminder, I got hit by a ball from you," u retort and smack his hand away
"YOU PROMISED YOU WOULDN'T BRING THAT UP ANYMORE"
"I CROSSED MY FINGERS BITCH"
the coach whistles for chan to get into place and u grab onto his arm, shocking both of u
o wow u got bold moves there reader
"uh, good luck out there," u smile at him
chan's heart doubles over in LOVE and smiles back at you "thanks!"
he runs back to the team, who are all looking at him with a sly look
"so when are u gonna ask y/n out?"
"i'll purposely aim the ball at ur head mingyu"
tbh u don't even know much about volleyball and all u see are balls being hit back and forth
im writing the match based on what I've seen my school's team done and it may be inaccurate pls correct me
sometimes u involuntary wince when u see chan spikes and the ball bounces off the floor bc the other team failed to block it
u pity the floor
it's the last match and both teams are tied
chaeyeon is gripping onto ur arm for dear life bc out of the three of you, she's the only who understands the most about volleyball
both teams are fairly powerful
they have a really strong setter aka lee hyunjae
boy may not look like it but he's strong!!!
the coach whistles and jaehyun serves the ball
jacob from the other team returns the ball and it goes flying across the net
in a blink of an eye, chan yells "mine!" and he spikes the ball with force* hyunjae rushes to block it but misses by a milimetre and the ball bounces off the floor
the entire gymnasium erupts into cheers
and u are pulled up from ur seat by a screaming chaeyeon
they won???
OH MY GOD THEY WON DJSJDJ
chaeyeon runs down to congratulate her boyfriend and u follow in suit
but u run straight into chan's arms to hug him
"congrats!" u squeal as he lifts u off the ground and spins u around
when he sets u down, the both of u finally realizes the position ur in and back away from each other awkwardly
"ahaha,,, congratulations!!" u tell him
chan grins at u "what can I say, ur my lucky charm"
ur cheeks start to heat up again and chan laughs
the rest of the team comes over to drag chan to the changing room, leaving u alone with lisa and chaeyeon
once the boys disappear behind the doors, the two girls turn around to look at u
"what was that???" lisa asks, referring to the hug between u and chan, as she whacks ur arm
she tryna whack the answer out of u HDHS
"STOP HITTING ME WOMAN THAT HURTS!!!"
"NOT UNTIL U TELL ME WHAT WAS THAT BETWEEN U AND BANG CHAN, Y/N"
"it was a hug! nothing more!" u say, more like ur trying to convince it was nothing more
"that was not just a hug," lisa mimics ur voice "that was one of those couples hug chaeyeon and jaehyun does!"
(chaeyeon, pipping up from the side) "she's right!"
"he totally likes you!" lisa smirks at u
"no he does not!"
"uh yes, he does! jaehyun says so!" chaeyeon says in a matter-of-fact tone
"and you—" lisa points her index finger at u "—like him too!"
"WITH WHAT PROOF???"
"WITH THOSE HEART EYES HWANG Y/N"
before u can continue bicker and PROVE THAT U DO NOT LIKE BANG CHAN
jaehyun comes into view and says "hey y/n, chan is waiting for u outside, he has something to tell u"

28 for superfamily!
“What in everything that is holy is that?”
Harley bumped into Peter’s back when he stopped dead on the lawn. “What?”
“That,” Peter said, pointing at the vehicle parked up on their drive. “Come on, Harl. Don’t tell me you can’t see that thing. Look at it! It’s the size of our old school bus. What the hell–”
“Language!”
Harley snorted at Peter’s eyeroll and turned to greet Steve as his Pops stepped out of the front door, Mary on his hip.
“Seriously, Pops,” Peter said, accepting Mary when she squealed and reached for him. “Where did Dad even find this? It’s huge.”
“That’s what your Pops said.” Tony followed Steve out onto the lawn, a wide grin on his face and a couple of cool bags in one hand, keys in the other. “And I don’t just mean the–”
“Nope,” Harley cut in, holding his hand up in anticipation. “You can stop that right now.”
Tony smirked as Steve just sighed, resigned and used to the antics of his family.
“Seriously, though,” Peter said, bouncing a little to keep Mary amused as she reached out for his hair. Her little fingers could hurt. “What’s with the coach?”
“It’s not a coach, you monster,” Tony said, smacking Peter on the back of the head as he walked past to load the bags into the trunk. “It’s a mini-van.”
“Not very mini,” Harley muttered, holding out a hand to tickle Mary when she lunged for him. The girls always wanted to be close to their brothers whenever they were home from college, and the boys were happy to oblige. “Could fit my college football team in there.”
Tony huffed, walking back over and taking his youngest daughter into his arms. “Ungrateful brats. Give me my angel. You won’t bully Daddy, will you?” Mary went to Tony happily, babbling as he repositioned her on his hip. “Right? My favourite–”
“Tony! Don’t finish that sentence! You’ll give them all a complex.”
Meeting Harley’s eyes, Tony winked. “Yes, darling,” he said to Steve, turning to head back into the house and fish out their last child. “Whatever you say, darling.”
Steve shook his head, albeit fondly, and was about to speak when a bundle of energy crashed into his legs. With an exaggerated groan, Steve stumbled forward a few paces, much to the delight of the girl attached to his leg. The air filled with loud giggles.
“Beach day, Pop!” Morgan cried, lifting her arms into the air. “Beach day!”
Bending down effortlessly, Peter swept in and swung her through the air. “Beach day, baby!” he said, tickling his sister’s stomach until she squealed. “You all packed and ready to go?”
“Took my colours,” Morgan said, wide smile ever prominent. Her curls had fallen loose from her ponytail already and were sticking to her forehead despite the number of clips trying to hold them back. “And my tutu.”
“Your tutu? Wow!” Harley commented, taking some foldable chairs from Steve and walking down to the van. “Gonna be the prettiest baby on the beach.”
“You’re all ready to go in the van then, aren’t you, babe? The stupidly big truck that could seat 700 people?”
Steve laughed at Peter’s words and Harley’s eyeroll. He stepped back to look at it when he’d deposited Morgan’s bag by her car-seat and tilted his head. “It is quite big, isn’t it?”
“Quite big?” Peter repeated incredulously. “It’s insane, isn’t it, Morg? Yes, it is. Yes, it is.”
Harley had always been the quieter of the two Stark-Rogers boys, from childhood right through to their college years, so it was no surprise that he was the one who shot Steve a sheepish and considering look.
“It is a little large, Pops.” His tone had an edge of apology to it and Steve chuckled at his gentleness. “Why did you need it this size? Got any other kids that you need seating for?”
“Yeah,” Peter chimed in, “I thought Mary was your mid-life crisis? You said no more kids after Morg and then, bam.”
Steve laughed again, reaching an arm out to pull Harley to his side and waving at Morgan when she shouted at her name. “Definitely no more kids,” he assured them all. “The four of you is enough – too much, one might say. Your dad just… well. I have no idea why, really. He went on and on for ages about making sure we had enough space for a family holiday.”
“Baby girls do have a lot of stuff,” Peter commented, dipping Morgan and pulling her back up before she hit the ground.
“And so do sweaty, teenage boys.” Tony reappeared on the lawn, Mary asleep on his shoulder with her face half-hidden in her teddy – Peter’s old one, to be precise. How she’d managed to fall asleep through the racquet her siblings had made was anybody’s guess. “I need a coach to fit all of your dirty laundry on whenever you decide to come home.”
“Oi!” Peter said through a laugh, bouncing Morgan on his hip again as a distraction when she tried to lunge to Tony. “But come on, Dad. What do you know about driving a vehicle this size? You’re meant to buy a sports car when you lose it, not a bloody–”
“You cheeky sod! You better not corrupt my angels on this damn holiday,” Tony grumbled, nodding at Morgan giggling into Peter’s chest. “They’ve been so sweet without you pair of goons here. And they have at least a few more years of thinking Daddy is amazing, so shut it.”
“‘Mazing!” Morgan cried, lifting her arms in the air and grinning, baby teeth fully on show. “Daddy, ‘mazing, Daddy!”
“Isn’t he just?” Steve cooed as he reached over and took her from Peter. “We love Daddy.”
Harley laughed as Peter rolled his eyes again. “It’s not that we don’t love Dad, but we also value our limbs.”
“Exactly,” Peter said. “I have a match when I got back to college in two weeks. Could do with all my bits and bobs still attached.”
“I’ll personally claw off your bits and bobs if you don’t shut it,” Tony growled, sticking his tongue out at Peter’s faux-shocked expression. “Go get your bags.”
“And you want your children to stay angels? Honestly, Dad. Bad influence.”
“I’m going to leave you here and you won’t come on the damn family holiday.”
Peter laughed as he bent to pick up his duffle. “Keep talking to me like that and I won’t want to come.”
“Oh, you two!” Steve shouted from the van, “shut up and get in the deathtrap.”
“Everyone,” Tony said loudly, one hand covering Mary’s ear as he did so and the other darting out to smack Steve on the arm. “Get in the damn van before I steal my favourite children and leave you all here.”
With one last wide grin to show he didn’t really mean any of it, Tony turned on his heel and headed for the mini-van.
Harley caught Peter’s eye and they both spluttered a laugh, looking back to watch Steve try to corral Morgan to sit in her seat on the van and be buckled in and Tony try to jump up the step with a sleeping baby in his arms.
“Not to be dramatic, but I think we’re all going to die.”
“Wouldn’t be a Stark-Rogers family holiday without that threat, though, would it?” Harley laughed, clapping Peter on the shoulder and lifting his own bag onto his shoulder. “Also, shotgun backseat.”
Peter’s outraged cry followed him all the way to the van.
