New Gods November 2023 - Week 4, Day 4: Alternate Realities!

once upon a time it was said that only one version of the New Gods exist across all Earths, but its rarely reflected after that. Most of these AUs are canon, some after 1/2 canon (featuring only one of the duo), and some are my own ideas :D This december is going on three years since I got into New Gods!

1: Orihound and Lightstray from the New Dogs (Earth C-Minus). Inspired by the art in their first/only appearance Captain Carrot and the Final Ark #3, by Scott Shaw, Scott Koblish, Tom Luth, and Drew Moore.

2: Thorion and Bald’r the Lightbringer of the New Asgods (Amalgam Earth). Inspired by the art . 

3: Lightray and Orion as members of the Lantern corps, designed by me. In this universe, an Apokolips-raised Orion loses all sense of control when given the red ring and decimates the population of Apokolips, then turns on Atrocitus for manipulating his mind. Seeing a threat to all Lantern Corps, Lightray of New Genesis volunteers to defeat Orion and retrieve his ring. Lightray’s design is based on his formal wear from volume 3, Orion’s is based on his rebirth uniform. OK i dont know if they can work out in this one honestly i just thought it���d be cool, theoretically 

4. Lightraydactyl and Orionodon, designed by me. The JL fighting Darkseid instead of Orion is a pet peeve of mine, but Jurassic League didnt even leave room for the New Gods to exist. i love the dinosaurs comic though Lightray was pretty straightforward, Orion’s design took inspiration from Darklyoseid’s canon design by Juan Gedeon, a sabertooth tiger (for Tigra), and Orion’s main universe costume for the colours.

5. Orion and Lightray Mechs. DC Mech killed Orion off in issue one boooooo! but it did mean i didnt have to design my own for his (Lightray's is mine though). This was inspired by one of the covers for Pacific Rim, because I will be thinking about a pacrim AU for them forever now.

6. Hunter and Neon Black. These guys aren’t actually LR and Orion, just two random inmates disguised as evil versions of them iirc, but I liked Neon Black’s design.

7. Orion and Lightray, Mike Mignola’s scrapped 1990′s New Gods animated film designs.

a few months ago i got to finish with this very long term project :D thank you to everyone who encouraged me with kind words while working on this :D The final Lightrion week pic is finished and ready to post whenever i get around to it.

I didn't think this setting would get me to actually draw something as I rarely do, and am not very good at it, but I'm semi decent at pixel art. So here is Eclipse, the shadow under the ice himself, clutching with anticipation at the edge of an iceberg as he watches his prey on top of what they think is a safe zone. But he'll get them, eventually.

Eclipse - *Sinks below the water to instill the fear that he's out of sight but still lurking below just waiting for you to fall asleep or lower your guard*

The first one has my PenguinMerY/N, they're very small and the yellow parts near their eyes on their head are actually feelers or antenna like the decorative feathers some penguins have on their heads, but used to detect the movements of prey swimming far away and deep below. It helps them sense the ripples and disturbance of water, and also is the only reason they had even managed to run in time to escape alive from Eclipse.

I also have a version with Eclipse and a normal human Y/N. The figure is simple and I put a rainbow for the face cause it's very difficult to get a detailed face or Y/N symbol in such a small amount of pixels so I didn't bother worrying over it.

Finally here's one with the background. Yes I know there are inconsistencies with the water in a few but it wasn't until after I made copies that I realized I hadn't put any detail on the water in the background and unfortunately Pixilart doesn't allow me to edit things in a way to transfer Layers or copied things, or i was just dumb. So the water in the background and foreground might be a bit different in a few spots and images. But I dearly hope you like them and it's not annoying somehow.

i got deep into episode edits this year

and also took inspiration from other than poetry and lyrics

January

my most popular edit was this vegaspete set i made for @spicyvampire ♥ i actually like it a ton! but my personal favorite from this month is my bad buddy characters + the real 5 love languages set. i like the meme a ton and i loved how the set turned out (+ for me, it's super funny).

February

my most popular edit this month was the toddblack differences edit i made for @i-got-the-feels ♥ it was a very different type of edit and i'm very happy ppl liked it this much. personal favorite is this jimmy(sea) set for the varitda mv he/they appeared in. i loved the aesthetic of the mv and i feel like i captured that very well.

March

the most popular edit in march was my akkayan + one direction piece dedicated to @fitfmybeloved ♥ i think i need to make something else with a similar style sometime. my favorites would be the puen & talay's top 10 outfits edits which technically happened in february and march. i had a ton of fun with them and i honestly adore looking at the results.

April

my birthday month! the most popular creation was my beyond evil edit which was interesting to make according to @nongnaos's request ♥ i had never edited this show (or any kdrama) before and i also struggled a bit with figuring out the layout. it's a very simple set but felt fitting. my favorite this month would be this puentalay set made for you antania ♥ it took a lot of time, especially all the coloring, but it was worth every second! (special mention for my sea bday set which i still cannot believe the bday boy actually saw and liked on twt ;; i love him so much!)

May

i think it's very deserved that my most popular edit in may was this puentalay one for my our skyy 2 episode edits series. it's for the first vice versa episode and tbh also my personal favorite out of all those episode edits i made ^^ the coloring just worked super well there. my true favorite of the month was the pran's life anthem edit i made for @pransobrave ♥

June

as is fitting for pride month, my most popular edit and also my personal favorite was my our skyy 2 couples edit where i tried to describe all of their different loves through the colors of a rainbow. it was a lot of fun to do!

July

the most popular edit this month was the pran set i made for @punpunsutatta ♥ i had a lot of fun with this one bc i got to try some new things with it. personal faves and my peak as an editor (in my own opinion) were the two puentalay edits i made this month. this sam smith song inspired one i made for you zey ♥ i adore the layout and the colors, it makes me think about vintage images and letters. and this other one was born bc the quote haunted me. i love the pink in it a lot, it's so soft.

August

for august, i felt like i was making a ton of things even if i didn't have the energy or the time. in reality, i didn't make that many but i made a couple of very big sets. one of them and the most popular one this month was my winteam set made for @jimmysea ♥ making it took some research and then i had to go through the episodes a little while i searched for the fitting scenes. personal favorite was this akktheo set bc it turned out looking very cute. i think it captures their feeling as a couple and their story well. special mention for my jimmy bday set bc i poured my heart into it ♥ i love this man so much (and i currently wish he is fine and gets well soon, he's apparently in the hospital ;;)

September

things got hectic in september as i started my internship and had to travel around a lot. i was too tired to do much else but work and study and watch dramas without any brain. that's why i only made two edits. my most popular set was my last request edit for my event. it was patpran with the lyrics from ford arun's song come closer and made for @celestial-sapphicss ♥ i love the colors in this so much. personal favorite, only barely, is still my puentalay + 8 types of love set. i had a blast making it as a kind of collab with @dimpledpran who made the patpran version!

October

made only two edits (or well, one cut into two parts) in october too due to being very busy and tired. they were quite big tho bc i used a long while gathering material for them. it was its own type of research project when i wrote down all the times puentalay told each other 'i love you' without saying those exact words to each other. i struggled with the layout too as mimi can probably remember :'D but i love these sets a lot so they're both my favorite and most popular ♥

November

finally in november last twilight came to save all of us and so it's no wonder i created a lot for that during this month :'D i honestly wished to make more but i was still mostly busy with my internship and with starting my thesis. my most popular one was this last twilight trailer edit. i think it was fun to kind of make it similar to my mock trailer edit all that time ago. my personal favorite is the mork + linkin park edit that probably caters to only myself lol. am honestly obsessed with each song mentioned in this bc i can see it with mork so well. it was a relief to get that one out.

December

haven't really had the time to dive as deep into last twilight and make as many edits for it as i'd wanted due to using most of december to catch up on sleep and all the studying i couldn't do during my internship, but hopefully now i'll have more time to devastate yall ♥ the most popular post was this last twilight + random tweets thing and my personal favorite is the only morkday quote edit i've managed so far. i love the colors and the whole concept to bits, and cannot wait to make more ^^

"Yesss!", little Rosie said.

"Who was your favorite character?"

"Fagoa!"

"Falkor? The dragon?"

Rosie nodded enthusiastically. She was young and her speech wasn't fully developed yet, but she was intelligent and she understood most of 'The Neverending Story'.

"It seems like a wonderful creature indeed, little Watson."

Rosie nodded again, stretching her little arms and blinking sleepily.

"Finally ready for sleep, my Flower?"

"Did you bore her to sleep?" John Watson's voice reached over to the two from the door. He was leaning against it, his arms crossed looking at them with - in Sherlock's opinion - the most besotted expression on his face.

Rosie made a little noise and Sherlock turned towards her. He bent down and gave her another kiss. Silently, John followed his example. Then he wrapped his arm around Sherlock's waist. Together they looked at their sleeping daughter, and let their gazes drift around the nursery: A bright colorful picture painted on the wall by Harry and her new girlfriend (of course there was a big rainbow in it); Rosie's bed, covered in stuffed animals. Robot curtains, a little abacus for simple math exercises, toys all around the room, and of course books everywhere. "It's a colorful mess but I would have loved it as a kid.", John whispered.

"Rosamund certainly does love this colorful mess.", Sherlock agreed.

"We are a bit like it, aren't we? A colorful, messy but lovable patchwork family?", John asked.

Sherlock hummed. Then after a few seconds, "Mosaic family."

"How do you mean?", John asked, looking at him with curious eyes.

"Mosaic family as in indeed colorful, maybe even a bit chaotic at times, but together we are an artwork.", Sherlock said, facial expression dreamy, looking around the room.

John stared at him in complete awe. Sherlock turned and knitted his eyebrows. "What? What is it?"

"You continue to amaze me every day, Sherl.", John stated, his voice sincere and full of love. Sherlock smiled at him. They hugged, they looked at their little piece of human artwork, and silently left the room.

popular: this yoongi daechwita x shadow set, first of all can we believe i used to gif bts like semi-frequently jgdsh this was also my first accidental dip into color manipulation, which then became part of my signature gif style. i still get this set in my notifs and will always think fondly of it ~

favorite: my magic island set - forever one of my favorites, even though i know i could do it so much better now ... i have never felt compelled to redo it. i like it as it is, even unpolished.

favorite: well the month is not over yet but i am very proud of my end of the year sets. in particular, my lucy gatcha! set, and favorite soloist title tracks set are probably my absolute favorites. i'm on my new laptop, settling into this new blog, and trying new things out every day. with the compilation sets i'm really enjoying working with colors, which looking back through it really has always been the root of my style but it's evolved a lot over time. rather than just choosing shots and then trying to force the colors to work, i've become a lot more intentional about my shot choices to begin with - my process has really changed and though it definitely takes more time and intentionality, i've been super happy with the results these days <3

to any and all ppl who liked my we are episode edits, here's a little secret:

the color i used for each ep was planned since the beginning.

ok well, that's only half true. the first set wasn't planned at all and it was only that one and the second one that pushed my plan in motion. the first ep felt like blue and there were several really nice shots where the blue stood out to me. same with the second ep where that very warm and firey orange took center stage.

but after those two eps got their colors, i made a system. you know how the rainbow colors make up a circle, right? it's not called the color wheel for nothing. but yeah, blue and orange happen to be on opposite sides of that wheel, so i just decided, heck, let's go with that. i started moving around the circle in my head, and so the order became:

blue (cyan/blue, ep 1 & 9) > orange (ep 2 & 10) > purple (ep 3 & 11) > yellow (ep 4 & 12) > pink (ep 5 & 13) > green (ep 6 & 14) > red (ep 7 & 15). that meant 7 + 7 = 14 colors and bc we had 16 eps, i got creative with eps 8 (b & w) and 16 (the whole rainbow) bc it felt fitting that the ep marking the middle point and our final ep would be special in some way.

i found it amusing that ppl kept saying how much certain color choices fit the episodes and told me in the tags their thoughts on why they fit :') i appreciate all the love and all your thoughts so much ♥ sorry if i disappoint yo by telling you now that not as much deep thinking was put into the actual making of these edits. i only wished to challenge myself to make aesthetic sets like this through editing and shot selection.

am also sorry if this spoils part of the fun but i thought i was being very obvious with my logic :'D i waited for someone to point it out how i kept going through the same circle. but that never happened so, i felt like making this silly post.

i had a blast with those edits. i hope i can sometime find a show where i feel like making episode edits again but that might happen only after some time 😅
