though I gotta say,Richard feels...off? There seemed to be an attempt at making him understandable but it kinda fell flat on me. Maybe Act 3 and 4 dive more into why he became like that or maybe it's a "well this happened because of this simple reason,no more depth to that" kinda situation.

anyway,I like the little references to Bacchus/Dionysus. As the god of theatre,but also alcohol and madness,he truly is the most fitting Greek God to be mentioned all throughout

A lot like The Secret History,where he played a more background role,always there but never in the limelight except for the bacchanalia

yandere!russia headcanons :

Ivan is a man who contains innumerable facades. Vulnerability is hard to get from him, which is why he is so taken aback when he meets his darling. Anyone special enough to catch his attention and keep it must have some sort of hold over him -- and he cannot have that.

He would initially try to distance himself from you, and then after realizing that does not work, he would try to exercise as much control over the situation as possible.

He takes an almost managerial role, employing the use of strict guidelines and occasional punishments to gain a semblance of control.

Once he acknowledges his feelings towards you he will sit and machinate ways to get you to reciprocate his feelings. He regards you as an object that he needs to get sooner rather than later. He would understand that it might be difficult to get you to come off your own volition, so he is not entirely against using force to get you to be with him should his attempts at courting fail.

Ivan often finds himself exhibiting certain behaviors not because he wants to, but because he thinks that these behaviors are what a normal person would do. This leads him to think that presenting himself in a certain way would make you feel comfortable around him, or win your romantic favor -- in reality, they end up coming off as stilted and strange.

If he ends up entering a long-term relationship with you, he’ll likely stop putting up airs, leaving you interacting with someone much more stoic and withdrawn.

Contrary to popular opinion, he is not really hotheaded or quick to violence, and will not let his true emotions overtake his carefully curated mask very often. He is a quick thinker and will remain efficient under pressure. However, should you do something to upset him, he will act quickly and decisively. He loves you deeply, but to him, to truly love someone is to try and bring the best out of that person. He will do so by whatever means necessary.

That isn’t to say that he’s always cold though. He’s happy to dote on you should he think the situation calls for it.

Ivan, however, is no stranger to betrayal. Should you try to leave, exhibit suspicious behaviors, attempt to undermine his authority, or oppose him politically -- there will be dire consequences.

Unlike other yanderes, he has no qualms about hurting you. Ivan witnessed extreme horrors during his childhood, and as such is desensitized to most violence. He will not harm you unprovoked, but should you test him, you will find out how cold and cruel he truly can be.

A more introverted partner may actually suit the life he has planned out for them. Once he finds love he is likely to whisk his partner off to the countryside for a time, rarely to be seen in public.

In the event of an extended business trip, he may take you along, depending on the location. Like countless things before you, people will try and use you against him. Because of this, he would never expose you to an enemy. Should he have a trip domestically, or somewhere he deems low risk he will take you with him. If not, you are expected to sit content in your idyllic countryside home until the two of you can bask in each other’s company again. 

Ivan is not super controlling, but he does have a set of rules that you are meant to abide by.

He also places importance on appearances, so you would be coached on how to conduct yourself in formal situations so that onlookers would have nothing negative to say about the two of you. That is why he may implement dress codes, or designate certain discussion topics as off-limits.

After sequestering you away in the middle of nowhere, if you perform well enough, he may move back to the city. He can use extreme methods, but he is not a complete monster. On a deep subconscious level, he craves normalcy. So seeing you navigate life around other people but still choosing to come back to him “willingly” may help him feel vaguely fulfilled.

He is the type to allow you to pursue most hobbies, and would not stop you from expressing individuality or possessing a sense of self. He does however want to make sure that you constantly view yourself as not just an individual, but as a part of a unit. With everything you do, there needs to be a consideration of how it’ll affect both of you.

In his more subdued moments, he treasures domesticity and would like to occasionally dote on you. He'll be pleased if you occasionally let him cook for you or pick out your outfits.

On the same token, he wants to feel as though you depend on him. Not enough to where you can’t exist without his constant care, but enough to know you are appreciative of all he does for you, and that you are hesitant to leave him. 

If you follow the rules and do not awaken his feelings of intense paranoia, you can live somewhat normally.

I duplicated your boyfriend. Not on purpose, I was just hanging out in his time machine when that hand he keeps in a jar started glowing and it grew an exact copy of him. He’s missing a heart and has started copying my speech patterns, but otherwise he’s the same man. Yeah you can totally marry him and live happily ever after in your alternate universe, but the original is going to doom himself by going on a power trip and committing grievous acts of hubris outside the limits set to him by the universe because he misses you so much. trying to decide whether he should be school king or if he is a cursed good guy and edward is an evil school king. because like is fell ibvs "everyone is evil except the villain" or is it just foxfield but worse? and obviously foxfield being worse would likely mean felix is the most popular boy in school. but like, I can't imagine felix being MORE evil in fell. like, this guy's evil level caps at about what he currently is and I think it would be really funny if felix was the supporting character in this version of the story. but the possibilities! felix being the school king, completely unchanged, would be so funny and probably more on brand anyway, and would put edward in a less awkward position as a character. hence the dilemma

My favourite part of the Kekkai Sensen manga specifically is that every issue begins with “The secret society Libra fights in the darkness to preserve balance in the world. This is the story of the battles and everyday lives of members of this society.”

And it explains everything you need to know. The manga doesn’t have an overarching plot because it isn’t focused on a plot, it’s focused solely on the characters. The characters’ interactions, the way they respond and react to each other, the way they help or hinder in situations, other characters’ responses to the interactions of others -

Kekkai Sensen, Blood Blockade Battlefront, is a slice-of-life manga. I love that.

OKAY HEAR ME OUT I JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING This might be kind of obvious but, as always, I like to share my thoughts so that maybe others can share theirs too. It's really interesting how Vash is called "The Humanoid Typhoon", right? Like a straightforward name, a human-looking person who causes destruction wherever he goes, we get that. BUT hear me out, why don't they just call him the Human Typhoon..?

The majority of the people on No Man's Land don't know he's a plant so obviously that can't be the excuse. And I doubt Nightow was like "Well it would be confusing to call him the Human Typhoon when he's not really human" like cmon be real here for a second, he could've easily done that, there is WAY more confusing stuff in Trigun then calling a non-human character a human. I'm bringing in examples from Stampede because it's what I can recall quickly so sorry I cant bring up specific examples from the manga and the 98 anime, maybe later. Well, I mean, when you think about it, most people don't really see this 'Vash the Stampede' guy as a human. We LITERALLY have a whole scene with Meryl poking fun at people for making him out to be this wacky character and not as an actual human. Like she said in the eng dub:

"Real people aren't such caricatures. He's a man, not a monster."

The people of No Man's Land don't view 'Vash the Stampede' as a human. He's basically like an urban legend to them. A rumor you hear about amongst folk sitting on their front porches in the evening. A scary story older siblings tell younger siblings that if they don't behave the Humanoid Typhoon will come and get them. Even Rollo had heard of Vash being talked about this way. He said, after Vash was surprised the kid had heard of him,(again in the eng dub):

"Well, yeah, you're super famous. You're the real-life Humanoid Typhoon, everybody knows you!" "I heard something else, too! You're a walking disaster, a demon who wreaks havoc wherever he goes."

Even in the manga and 98 anime after the JuLai incident, they talk about him like he's this weird cryptid going around causing mayhem and destruction. He's destroyed two whole cities and put a hole in the moon. It would be hard for any human to believe something was capable of this unless they met him in person and saw what he is capable of.

Idk it was just something that literally struck me while I was eating dinner and I typed this up real quick after finishing my meal so sorry if this seems a little messy.

As always, I appreciate the attention to detail when it comes to the writing in Trigun. While this may seem like a small and insignificant thing, I really love how even the smallest of things seem to carry information throughout the story. Just makes it all the more special to me :,)

Oh my fucking god the Raph and Don parallels are so much fucking worse. They sound like each other when they think and speak. Insisting “I love you” against a locked door. The last part of Raph’s chapter feels like the scene where Donnie reminisces on the time after Shredder. His monologue at the beginning literally sounds like Donnie begging for forgiveness from his brother in CL. “I wanna be worth it” you’re both SICK in the head.

leo and donnie may be twinning hard right now but raph and donnie are doing some fuckinnnn!!! PARALLELS!!!!!! CL being so long and having so much to take from for things like this really helps pound in the way that the roles have been reversed after the curse breaks; how they cant do much but work, how they can only love from afar, how they can give and give and give but it wont get through to the person they want to love them the most, how desperate they are for normalcy and simplicity and the donnie they used to have .......

what a terrible way to finally be able to empathize with your emotionally unavailable brother.

that scene where they talk about the stuff they miss is also kind of intended to be a parallel to the family meeting,,,, but donnie's missing from it. they're not saying this to him. because he opened himself up and took their punishment but he wont so easily do the same with their love. haha painful! :D
