Still working on poll arts but I took a break to make a little something special
Stained glass window drawings of Cyber Elf Atem(I'll explain that below) and of Kaiba. (not entirely sure why Kaiba's window ended up slightly smaller, though)
Now to explain Cyber Elves: They're a semi-closed species I created. Created by the God of Technology CyberShine, they bear colorful stripes on their ears, cheeks, and limbs, and their torsos have unique patterned markings(it's like a fingerprint, as no two Cyber Elves have the same torso patterns.) I've really wanted to draw Atem as a Cyber Elf cause they all have similar personalities and qualities to him. I originally made his markings purple but realized red was much more fitting.
The symbolism of each window is also a story. Atem, born from the dry, hot sands of Egypt, offered a second chance of life by an otherworldly god (CyberShine, ironically) visiting Aaru: if Atem gathered the Millennium Items once again, CyberShine would take him to his own world(as the Egyptian Gods wouldn't allow Atem to be directly resurrected into the world he was born into). Atem, scouring the afterlife for the ghost copies of the Items, eventually completes his task, returning to CyberShine, who fulfils his end of the bargain, and brings Atem back to life and takes Atem to his own world. Atem, however, misses his friends from Domino, his brother Yugi...everyone. So, CyberShine provides a solution...taking a sliver of his godly power and giving it to Atem, making HIM a god...the God of Games. Now equipped with the power to cross dimensions and make portals to other worlds...Atem immediately goes to Domino, who is less than prepared for a dead Pharaoh returned as a literal god. The more fragmented glass represents the lack of linear path his new story takes.
Kaiba's window is much more simple in its story. After Atem's departure, Kaiba finds and reassembles the Millennium Puzzle, hoping to return Atem to it. When it doesn't work, Kaiba's stonewalled persona cracks. The Puzzle is always in one hand or around his neck, empty like Kaiba's heart. Despite his Blue Eyes and his company, a storm feels it has settled over his head, and he walks a narrow road that has no end. He's drawn to the memories of the past that he always ignored, finding comfort in the ones of Atem. The calla lilies on his window represent the union he wished his heart could feel, the rebirth of Atem he once desired, and the simple mourning deep within.

I love this post because of all the points made here and just how complex Atem and Seto’s friendship is. But they ARE friends and it’s so incredibly frustrating to see Yugi’s friends not only dismiss Seto but also constantly use him. Any time Seto shows up Jonouchi and he go at it and often with a “ugh why are you here?” The majority of the travel the characters do in the show is provided or paid for by Kaiba with the exception of the final trip to Egypt. Seto had the Battle City Zeppelin prepared to have medical staff and equipment and while we can laugh and be like “for a card game?” But it ended up being vital. If not for this Bakura could have died from blood loss, and while the doctors weren’t able to help Jonouchi and Mai (since Shadow Games don’t function based on any science) if it had been a normal health issue they probably would have been. Seto is also responsible for saving Anzu from getting crushed by a friggin cargo container.
And I get it, Seto isn’t exactly a pleasant person. He’s egotistical, he does look down on people weaker than him etc etc but we also can’t forget the kind of life he’s had. The family that’s supposed to love and support you took all of his and Mokuba’s inheritance and then abandoned them at an orphanage. Gozoburo physically and mentally abused them and when Seto became successful who does he deal with mostly? Adults who suck up to him, try to use him or try to usurp him and he’s not dumb he can tell when people are just trying to kiss his ass.
As pointed out in the above post Atem and Seto aren’t the best at communication, so speaking through their rivalry works best for them. Atem is the first person who doesn’t try to kiss up to Kaiba or pick a fight with him. He’s also the first person to set boundaries, if Kaiba -does- start going after the others too hard or says something that Atem disagrees with he calls Seto out on it but he doesn’t start throwing insults at him or trying to pick a fight.
We laugh about how Kaiba is always trying to duel Atem but for Seto that’s the only way he can even spend time with him and as pointed out in the above post it’s how he communicates best with Atem. So it totally makes sense that Seto constantly tries to duel him and never tires of it and why in Battle City he gets annoyed that Atem wants to save his other friends more than duel him. But the thing about even that is if his other friends hadn’t been in danger then Atem totally would have dueled Seto then. When Atem first fights against Slifer and falls to his knees thinking he can’t win Seto calls to him, “Get up, Yugi! If a God stands in your way, knock God down!” (Ep 167 1:52) Seto is the only one here besides Mokuba and he could have scoffed at Atem and walked off but he doesn’t he encourages him. He provides support just the same as all Yugi’s other friends have and do. And yeah he adds the little “only I can defeat Yugi” but that’s just how Seto justifies it to himself and Atem is aware of this.
And while I know this is different from the manga I feel like the scenes with Seto in the final episodes further confirms it.
When everyone returns from Millennium World Seto waits in the room after everyone else has left with Bakura while Atem gathers the Millennium items. He doesn’t say anything, he just stands there and waits and doesn’t go up until Atem gives him the signal that he’s ready to go.
On the ship when they’re traveling to the Tablet of the Afterlife Seto insists on dueling Atem, not because he wants to finally beat him but because he believes he’s the only one in the group who can. He gets upset with Yugi because he better than anyone (except Yugi but give him some slack he doesn’t know Yugi watches Atem duel) knows how good Atem is. So to have the kid who has had Atem fight his battles for him the whole series put his foot down and say he will beat Atem probably to Seto feels like Yugi is insulting Atem and what him being the Duel King means.
“If this is the final duel, I’ll get my revenge by preforming his last rites!” (Ep 220 13:30)
Seto can’t show emotional vulnerability so it has to be “for revenge” but wanting to perform your rival’s funeral rites is silly and we know it. But it’s not for revenge, it’s for Atem. It’s for the friend that Seto can’t bring himself to call a friend to his face. Seto is the only one who doesn’t say Atem should stay but he does his best to offer Atem complete support in this incredibly difficult time for him.
When Yugi insists and Seto offers his cards to Yugi to build a deck and he refuses this isn’t Seto trying to wiggle his way in and make his pride feel better. To me it’s a character trying to support his friend and show that support that he not only struggles to show but can’t because the other friends literally won’t let him when he does try. And I do get why Yugi had to make his own deck from his own cards, I do. But it says a lot that Seto wanted Yugi to use his cards to build the best possible deck to beat Atem.
And finally DSOD. Let’s just look at this picture of Seto after Yugi tells him Atem isn’t in the puzzle anymore.
The poor guy is devastated. This isn’t the face you make when someone tells you you can’t see your rival anymore this is the face you make when sometime tells you your friend died (and they in fact are not coming back.)
I mean just…look at him. He is so hurt. And he is so desperately hoping and wanting Atem to still be in there. He just wants to see his friend and he is hurting because he’s gone and he can’t see him. That’s also why I do love the ending of DSOD where Seto ends up there anyway because just seeing the way Atem smiles when he sees Seto is adorable.
Like Atem isn’t shocked or mad he is just happy to see his duel bestie, happy to see the friend he made completely on his own and that Seto was willing to go so far just to see him. This friendship does not get enough appreciation.
After writing a bit on this post and consulting @egyptiansapphiredragons, I feel confident enough to put some thoughts out there that really get me about the nature and development of Yami Yugi’s and Seto’s relationship - how so much goes entirely unsaid, and how much this defines their relationship.
So buckle up, because here are way too many words on card game fixated idiots struggling with basic social skills. Or as I will now rather overdramatically call it:
The Friendship That Dare Not Speak Its Name
Development-wise, Battle City and especially Battle Tower is when Yami Yugi and Seto start to tentatively explore the possibility of friendship - it’s what this tournament is all about in terms of their relationship to each other. Before that, the nature of their relationship seemed clear enough, at least to them. They were intrigued by each other’s passion and dueling skills basically since day one, and assumed their status as rivals seamlessly. There is no doubt in their minds that they occupy an important position for the respective other they both take very seriously, and that they have immense respect for each other as duelists. That much is evident to them, and they know and expect the other to understand what all of this entails. Even though especially Seto likes to state that they hold a unique importance to each other as rivals, they never had to clarify any of this - they communicated and established this through their duels.
But over time, Yami Yugi learned more about the meaning of friendship from Yugi, Jounouchi, Anzu & Co., and what it means to be a better person and improve with the help of friends. He also starts to think more about who he is and used to be, about his destiny and about his own wants and decisions with regards to that. (In many ways, in the story and on a meta level, this is when Yami Yugi develops more into his own distinct character.) And all this in turn causes his relationship to Seto become less well-defined.
When Seto and Yami Yugi work together to find Jounouchi in Battle City (of course only because Seto wants to duel Yami Yugi as fast as possible, as Seto never tires to point out), they discover that they make a great team not only because of their respective dueling skills, but because they click immensely well. It takes a lot of work and bickering, but Yami Yugi introduces Seto to the power of unity during their tag team duel, while Seto shows that he can in fact be a great, reliable dueling partner if he just gets over himself for two seconds - and thus a new question arises.
Are they really just rivals with no trace of friendship? At which point do you consider a rival a friend exactly? What are the criteria?

The overly abrasive blaring of the alarm abruptly yanked him back to consciousness. He was warm and extremely comfortable and the sudden noise was a very unwelcome reminder that he had to get up and go to school. But he knew, of all days, this was not the one to miss school, not after what had happened the previous night.
Ryou groaned, simply wishing for the alarm to stop wasn’t working. Except when he started to reach for the alarm, it wasn’t just a matter of not wanting to move, the arms around him were downright unyielding.
“Why do you have to be so strong?” Ryou grumbled as he struggled in his attempt to free himself. ‘...and muscular,’ his mind added when he finally managed to sit up and hit the snooze button.
He felt his face grow hot as his brain registered that he was staring, appreciatively, not just at the dark and scarred, yet quite handsome face, but also the very visible arm and chest muscles; and was grateful that the former spirit was somehow still sound asleep. ‘...and I just spent the night happily sleeping with my face against his bare chest…’
He was almost glad when the alarm went off again, distracting him from his current train of thought and reminding him that he had things to do. Things that did not involve staring at his roommate’s half naked body, even if that body was currently in Ryou’s bed.
He had to close his eyes to resist the urge to look back as he forced himself from the room. Maybe, just maybe, something genuinely interesting would happen at school and give him something else to think about.
~
Maybe it was because Ryou was paying more attention to everything in an attempt to distract himself that he noticed there was something slightly off about the way Atem was acting when they gathered for lunch, though he couldn’t quite figure out what.
“What do you remember from last night Ryou?” He wasn't trying to be accusatory, but he wanted to know how that particular situation had developed. He needed to know if it had been an attack targeted at a former Millennium Item holder, specifically at Ryou himself, or just a random attack of opportunity.
“Huh? Did something happen?”
He looked down, letting out a small sigh before answering both the Pharaoh and their blonde friend, “Well, I was on my way home, and 3 or maybe 4 unfriendly looking guys surrounded me and someone hit me on the back of my head.”
“That must’ve been right before Touzou-san called us.”
Ryou was visibly in shock; despite knowing Yugi wouldn’t lie to him about something like this, he still couldn’t believe that the King of Thieves had willingly called his hated enemy. “Wait, he called you?”
“Maybe he was hoping that you were with us? He sounded really upset,” Yugi offered, confused by his friend’s reaction.
Atem refocused the conversation, asking, “So you don’t remember any of them saying anything about why they were attacking you?”
The pale boy shook his head, “The next thing I knew, you were leaning over me and Kura was shouting ‘PENALTY GAME!’”
Once again Jounouchi interrupted, “Wait, ‘penalty game’ as in…”
There were solemn nods from both Ryou and Atem.
“The hell?! That guy has magic?!”
“Using it really tired him out. He was still asleep when I left for school,” the long haired boy said, as if the cost of the thief’s magic would somehow placate the taller boy. Yugi had already answered one of his questions from the previous night, and maybe the pair of shorter boys could help him answer more. “It’s weird, last night he was so mad, it felt like I could feel his anger.”
The Pharaoh didn’t seem surprised by the information. “I’ve been able to feel Aibou’s emotions the same as when I was in the puzzle. If I’m right, the Millennium Items weren’t just destroyed- they were used to create our new bodies. Which would explain, not just our access to magic, but why we're still connected.”
~
He was glad that the group, even Jounouchi, had been understanding of his desire to go immediately home after school and check on the former spirit; though Honda had simply remained silent.
He was a tiny bit disappointed, but not surprised to find the thief in almost the same exact position as when he had left that morning- curled around Ryou’s pillow. He reached a hand out toward the potentially asleep figure, softly calling the older boy’s name, “Kura?”
A sleepy eye cracked open, “Mmm?”
“I made dinner. You should eat something. You’ve been in bed all day.”
“Mm.”
They ate in relative silence, with the Egyptian eating significantly slower than at the last meal they had shared. As much as Ryou wanted to ask him questions and see if Atem’s theory was right, Kura just looked so exhausted that he made himself wait. It wasn’t the same as the heavy, uncomfortable silence that had been between them just a few days earlier, this was a patient, understanding quiet which wasn’t broken until the darker boy stood, having finished his meal.
“Are you going back to bed?”
“Yeah.”
After cleaning up in the kitchen and getting ready to sleep, he found Kura fully sprawled out on his bed. It was actually somewhat impressive that the older boy, who was most definitely, even if not by much, shorter than Ryou, with slightly shorter arms and legs, somehow managed to take up far more space on the bed. A bed that was large enough for two average sized people to sleep in at the same time without feeling crowded. Or at least if neither of those people was the King of Thieves.
The pale boy grabbed his pillow, sighing to himself, ‘I guess I can sleep on the couch.’
There was a thwump and the rustling of sheets as he started to leave that made him turn back, seeing Kura now on his side and a dark arm raised toward him.
“Eh? You’re awake?”
A moment later Ryou found himself crawling under the beckoning arm and spooning against the thief's chest. His fingers slid between darker ones as Kura's arm tightened around him and he wondered, ‘Was he waiting for me?’

Another Ryou memory episode happened in Duel Links! Joey’s fear of the occult makes me wonder what would happen if he thought too hard about Yugi’s whole situation, being possessed by an ancient spirit and all XD
Game: Millennium Ring Memories - Battle City Bakura: Creepy-looking cards are my favorite. I wish I could put them in my deck! Joey: What!? Bakura, you got a deck? Bakura: Take a look. It’s my Occult Deck! Joey: O-Occult!? I don’t like spooky stuff like dat! Remind me never to duel ya! Bakura: C’mon, don’t be scared. Joey: Stay away! Just lemme search for my next opponent - who’s definitely not gonna be you! Activating Duelist Search Sensor! There’s a Duelist nearby in this direction! I’m comin’ for ya! Tea: Wait up! Yami Bakura: My Millennium Ring is also detecting something. But it’s not detecting a Duelist. It’s detecting a new Millennium Item! You possess a Millennium Item. It’s in your best interest to hand it over to me. Marik: Who are you? Yami Bakura: I’ll erase anyone who stands in the way of my plan. Marik: What’s your plan? Yami Bakura: If you give me your Millennium item, I promise I won’t erase you from existence. Marik: Why are you gathering the Millennium Items? Yami Bakura: For power. When all seven Millennium Items are placed within the Tablet of Lost Memories, the door will open. Which will unleash the evil and infuse me with power. Marik: (Only the Gravekeepers know of this secret. So how does he know? But he doesn’t realize that gathering all seven Millennium items isn’t enough to open the door.) Very well. What’s your name? Yami Bakura: I’m Bakura. Marik: Bakura, I don’t care about the Millennium Items. I only care about ending Yugi. If you help me defeat him, then I will give you my Millennium Rod. Yami Bakura: ............

Who will read?
Stories I have planned to write:
1. Sonic and the Chaos Seas (Sky and sea Pirate AU) - Much like the amazing prompts I did, I have an idea for a Sonic Pirates AU, much like my Medieval AU- where Sonic is the captain of the Bablyon Jewel, which houses the Master Emerald stolen from Angel Island... buuuut since it’s Guardian can’t part with the Master Emerald, and can’t seem to convince Sonic to turn the ship around, Knuckles joins piracy... unwillingly. Tails is his first mate, who is a genius with the ship’s ancient technology, except that Jet and Storm refuse to leave their family heirloom, as Jet is the rightful owner of the commandeered ship. They need the Master Emerald to locate, which Tails’s machines, the 7 emeralds to prevent the terrible ‘Tsunami of Skies’ event depicted in Silver’s future scrolls... the day the sky became the sea... and wiped everything off the planet! Shadow was stolen along with the feared Pirate Gerald’s research... and his granddaughter’s wereabouts remain a mystery... after Sonic accidentally wakes up Shadow, he agrees to let Shadow have his revenge on the Royal G.U.N armada who are secretly working for Eggman, who has convinced Queen Elise that he’s gathering the Emeralds for the world’s sake... Captain Rose and her all female-crew have an old score to settle with Captain Sonic, and Team Chaotix have a specific client looking for their rabbit daughter... who they believe was kidnapped by Captain Rose. It’s a journey that races against time..! But Sonic..? a Sea captain..? Nay! A sky-flying pirate who hates the sea but believes in the justice of the free winds! Shall we all head aboard? (Chaptered story, Pirate AU, Some Sonic couples like Sonamy.)
2. Sonic Storybook Series - Consisting of Oneshots of different stories. Travel to the desert land of traded goods and magical artifacts to discover The Desert Jewel (Aladdin), or perhaps travel the woods and find ancient curses with howling results? (Little Red Riding Hood), maybe you’re more a kingdom missing it’s royalty, kinda guy? (Twisted Cinderella) Which ever you preuse in your readings, care to still take the perilous dive into the Books Of Wonder!? Sorry, Sonic... you don’t have a choice. You’re evil doubleganger, born of your friends insecurities, is going to make sure you’re never the hero again! (Series of Oneshots - so multiple story-chapters - some Sonamy lol)
3. Sonic Family - Set in the distance future... Discover a secret deal, arranged out of love, before the nefarious Eggman infuses half his mind with a metallic computer to keep himself from falling to Alzheimer's. However, the machine turns him in-human, and takes over his fleshy-side. Older Sonic has to give up the oath he made so many years ago, and abandon his friends in pursuit of Eggman. It’s a deadly fight, but with the evil-counterpart ripped from Eggman’s head, Eggman finally shows his age... And Sonic is forced to place him in a home for the elderly. “Oh look! A talking hedgehog!” as Eggman is wheeled into the nursing home, Sonic, after so many years away, returns to his family... Only to find it’s a complete mess! His eldest is trying to get his mentor, Shadow, with Sonic’s wife! Amy wants another baby, and if not, then Sonic needs to be a decent father for a change... His second oldest is having fights at school, his third youngest is Tails’s apprentice and doesn’t really know much or care to learn about his father, only racing and science! His littlest is barely on her first word... can Sonic reunite with his friends and form the connection with his family he gave up long ago? And when Eggman’s mind returns to him, placing the last bingo piece into place,... does this mean Sonic’s family isn’t safely hidden anymore!? Find out! In Sonic Family~ (Sonamy and other Sonic Couples story, future AU, chaptered.)
4. Amy Rose Origin Story: The Piko Warrior - Ever wonder where Amy came from? Sonic never bothered to ask... until that is, her past catches up with her. Warriors from an culturally-rich and brutal era have sworn to find The Rose’s Last Line before a dangerous evil finds it first and wipes out the last of the Piko Warrior’s bloodline! But... the Rose’s bloodline is a traitor? Amy Rose was raised by wandering Gypsies that taught her fortunes and tarot cards, right? But you’re wrong... Will Amy tell the secret of her Piko Piko Hammer and finally tell her team of friends the truth about her brutal past? Stay tuned for this, Amy Rose’s Origin Story! (Sonamy chaptered story + Amy Origin)
5. Amy's Judgement (Judgement spirit and King Spirit. FIGHT! lol) - Unaware of her orphan past, Amy simply wants to spend the rest of her life chasing Sonic and being apart of his world... but the Gods deem otherwise. When the team discover an ancient spirit haunting the world with his undead army, it’s only up to Sonic to connect with the Spirit King, the most powerful soul in all the afterlife, in order to acquire the legendary power to fight with Spirits! (In the flesh, it’s no good!) However... The Spirit King seems to hate Sonic,... but why? And why does he look so sorrowful when seeing Amy Rose? Will the team discover their families they’ve never really known in the spirit world? Find out, in this devastating war of the living and the dead! (Chaptered story, everyone’s origins revealed, moderate Sonamy.)
6. Yugioh OC story (Will give official name later) - While Atem is enjoying his afterlife, Mana admits that there is something missing, but perhaps without it, he could continue on in blissful ignorance, but it’s not enough for Atem. Learning that there are Cursed Millennium Items that were thrown from the first batch, the Ring being cursed in secret, he rises from his rest through the Millennium Puzzle, returning to his Partner to seek his aid. Yugi is elated to see his old friend, but deeply concerned. Atem has many enemies now... and old rivals who will take advantage of this situation. Atem must recover the parts of his memory that were sealed away in the cursed items... Then they hear singing? Join this remarkable quest as the old gang gets back together to find the missing items, stop an evil Egyptian witch, and discover the missing power of the Millennium Heart, which can bring monsters and spirits... to life! “The Falcon shall find the split Dove again...And carry it’s heart to the seeking Anubis. Only then can eternity be completed, and the Pharaoh at last, rest with all his lost souls.” (Yugioh characters x Many OCs and just epic dueling lol chaptered story, it’s also just a story not all about romance XP)
7. Amy Rose's Fanfiction (Headband and puppet universe.) - When Canon Amy Rose begins to wonder if she’s satisficed in her universe, a unique opportunity presents itself... grab Chaos’s brain and create her own universe! Without knowing how she did this, the gang is informed from Tikal that Amy has created a separate universe, and they must unite with the many other universe’s to find her and get her back! However, Amy Rose creates a Fanfiction Universe with ‘puppet’ forms of her friends. Enjoy the story of Amy Rose trying to live out her dreams and fantasies through Puppet Amy Rose who begins to see suffering and fights the control of her Canon-counterpart. Can they convince Amy to return to the Canon that needs and misses her? Only by jumping from Comic, Boom, Anime, Classic, and Game universes can Tikal stretch out her power through Chaos Control and find Amy... somehow bringing her back or convincing her to return to where she belongs! (Chaptered story with adaptations of Sonamy: dark sonamy, sonamy au, modern sonamy.)
8. Softer Shades (shadamy) - Yall already know lol. Chaptered Shadamy story.

Okay lol I’m never gonna write this out in story form, so here’s a rough outline of the Failed Takeover AU:
- As in canon, Seto tries to take over Kaibacorp on his 15th birthday, via a plan that involves making everyone (including Mokuba) think he hates Mokuba.
- In a divergence from canon, the plan falls apart.
- Mokuba doesn’t burst into the conference room just in time to offer Seto his shares. Maybe he was too busy having a “I’m 9 and I guess my brother-parent hates me now” breakdown; maybe he assumed that Seto was infallible and wouldn’t need his help anyway; maybe one of Gozaburo’s followers gave him the wrong date/time/location for the meeting; maybe some combo of all of the above.
- As it turns out, hinging your entire plan on someone you didn’t explain the plan to (and went out of your way to alienate) is not, perhaps, the best idea!
- Gozaburo is like “Okay, great, this solves my ‘would stealing a child’s body or leaving my own child in an eternal virtual purgatory make me more profit?’ dilemma. Let’s lock the kid in his room while I get the brain upload ready.”
- Seto may not know about Noah and the Virtual World, but he knows that Gozaburo’s about to make his life a living hell. And he’s internalized his lessons better than Gozaburo intended.
- He knows what a loser deserves.
- Gozaburo’s henchmen don’t break down the door fast enough to stop Seto from attempting suicide, but they do manage to rush him to a doctor fast enough to save his life. Gozaburo is furious (how dare this brat damage his property), and has Seto forcibly hospitalized until his body has recovered enough for the upload.
- Mokuba is barred from visiting Seto during the recovery period. He’s terrified, guilt-ridden, convinced this is all his fault. And Seto wouldn’t…he couldn’t…Gozaburo has to be lying about the suicide attempt! It’s all a fake cover up for something horrible that must be going on! (he’s half right)
- As soon as Seto heals, he gets shunted into the Virtual World and Noah takes his place. Gozaburo would prefer to delete Seto’s file, tie up the loose end. But Noah insists on keeping him around–“He took everything from me. Now I want to take everything from him, and I want him to watch.”
- That includes, of course, the thing that mattered most to Seto–his little brother (another loose end that Gozaburo would rather have quietly disposed of). Noah tries to pass himself off as a Seto who’s recovered, learned his lesson, is appropriately contrite about being so ungrateful and causing so much trouble for the man who pulled him out of the gutter, and is ready to spend some quality time with Mokie!
- It’s not convincing. At all. But Mokuba plays along while he tries to figure out what’s really going on (Is Seto mad at him and being passive aggressive? Is he faking cheerfulness because he’s being watched? Has he been threatened? Brainwashed? Stepford Wive’d?)
- Eventually, Mokuba overhears some conversation between Gozaburo and Noah that reveals the truth. Horrified and filled with even more crushing guilt, he flees the Kaiba manor with his life, but isn’t able to take Seto’s consciousness with him. He vows to find a way to save his brother.
- After spending some time living on the streets, dodging Gozaburo’s search efforts, and [hacker voice I’m in]-ing for intel, Mokuba starts to hear whispers about some kind of teen vigilante. They say he’s been going around Domino, punishing wrongdoers with a magic necklace. And Mokuba knows some wrongdoers who need punishing…
- Mokuba tries and fails to steal the Puzzle. It goes about like the Capumon Chess chapter.
- Meanwhile: one Maximillian Pegasus has been hearing the most intriguing rumors that the CEO of Kaibacorp has found a way to resurrect his son. Pegasus starts looking into ways to take over Kaibacorp and get his hands on the Virtual World tech.
- Mokuba finds out about the new takeover plan (by [hacker voice I’m in]-ing I2) and contacts Pegasus. He offers insider info on Kaibacorp…for a price.
- Mokuba is flown out to Duelist Kingdom to meet with Pegasus. He explains that Gozaburo had a scan of Noah’s brain made before he died, and without a brain scan, the process won’t work (when he finds out about Cynthia, Mokuba genuinely feels sorry for Pegasus. He knows what it’s like to lose someone you love).
- Pegasus muses that if he gathered all seven Millennium Items, he could open the door to the afterlife, and he might be able to scan Cynthia’s mind/soul that way. Mokuba is like “Huh. Now that you mention it, I think I’ve met someone with a Millennium Item >:3”
- The Duelist Kingdom tournament happens. Mokuba becomes one of Pegasus’s Eliminators, under the agreement that once Pegasus takes over Kaibacorp, he’ll save Seto and use the Eye to give Gozaburo a penalty game.
- Mokuba challenges Yugi and Atem to a rematch. At some point during the duel, they mention fighting “for Grandpa’s sake,” and Mokuba’s like “…wait, what?”
- It turns out Pegasus never mentioned the whole soul-stealing/blackmail part of the plan to Mokuba. Mokuba feels betrayed and has a crisis of loyalty. Taking someone’s mind from their body…it hits too close to home.
- The Friendship Gang invites Mokuba to spend the night with them by the campfire. Mokuba explains why he keeps challenging Yugi, and what happened to Seto. He offers to help Yugi get his grandpa back, and Yugi promises that they’ll do whatever they can to help his brother once everything’s over.
- Mokuba helps them make their way to Pegasus, but soon as Pegasus finds out Mokuba has turned on him, he steals Mokuba’s soul. Yugi duels to save both him and grandpa.
- Then Bakura yoinks the Eye out of Pegasus’s socket. The good news: without the Eye’s influence, Pegasus feels bad about everything and wants to help Mokuba to make up for it. The bad news: without the Eye, he can’t take out Gozaburo with shadow magic.
- Atem has been feeling guilty about his s0 antics, and he was planning to give up shadow games for good, but Mokuba begs him to do just one more. The gang starts figuring out how they’re going to go about storming Kaibacorp.
- In the meantime, Yugi invites Mokuba to stay with him and Grandpa. They set up an air mattress in the game shop basement (it’s the first time Mokuba has had a stable roof over his head in months, and the first time he’s had a real, competent, well-meaning adult looking after him in…a long time).
- After a couple weeks of planning, they put their Ocean’s 11 rescue scheme into action: Pegasus remotely takes out the security tech; Atem sneaks off to Let’s Play A Game =) with Gozaburo; the rest of the friendship gang kidnaps Noah-in-Seto’s-body and drags him to the Virtual World port; and Mokuba goes into the Virtual World to find Seto and swap his consciousness with Noah’s.
- The big Kaibro reunion has finally arrived. Mokuba bursts in and goes “Seto! I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, but everything’s gonna be okay, we’re getting you out of here, let’s hurry, c’mon—” And Seto stares at him in dead-eyed silence before going “…you’re not real, are you.”
- How has Seto spent the last year or so?
Disassociating
Falling into an abyss of guilt (this was my stupid plan. this is all my fault. what happened to Mokuba? did I get him killed? did he die thinking I hated him?)
“I lost I’m weak I’m a failure why am I still here” spiraling
Contemplating his loss of autonomy (both in terms of literally losing his body, and in terms of his suicide attempt and the ensuing fallout/forced hospitalization)
Getting periodically tormented by Noah
Disassociating some more
- So while the plan works—the consciousnesses are successfully swapped, Atem wins his shadow game, Kaibacorp falls apart with its CEO in a permanent coma & Pegasus swoops in to buy out the pieces (which comes with a free Noah save file. Pegasus: “Hm. Guess I’ve adopted this undead 10-year-old bastard tamagotchi.”)—Seto is…obviously not in a good mental place. He’s pretty much gone into a total shutdown. (It takes a while for him to believe the rescue was even real, and Noah isn’t still playing games with him in the Virtual World)
- Grandpa tells Mokuba, “Of course you and your brother are welcome to stay for as long as you need.”
And everything else I imagined was just...recovery/hurt-comfort vignettes, with some Butterfly Effect versions of Battle City/Doma/Memory World thrown in ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Pharaoh and Reincarnated Queen’s adventures pt. 5
What part of the Queen's soul that was sealed in her bracelet was in charge while the Pharaoh was in charge of Yugi's body.
"How dare you take my other soul!" Brittania said
The Pharaoh looked at her seeing she was like him but her words of the other Britt being her other soul. He could see it wasn't an act like his was for Yugi's soul. He looked at Bakura.
"Why have you brought us here Bakura? I'll duel you to get my friends free." Yami said to him
"Fine, but your friend's very souls are at stake here." Yami Bakura reminded him
As the duel started it seemed simple, only when Tristan's soul card was played was the real danger realized. For if a soul card was played and sent to the grave yard that person was lost forever it seemed.
'No, so if their soul cards get sent to the graveyard it could mean the end.' He thought
Brittania was watching from beside the Pharaoh not like she could really get in the game since only one could play this shadow game. As he kept playing he noticed that sometimes he was lucky but then he looked over at the girl beside him.
'if I lose her hosts soul card, she may die.' He thought
Brittania saw him looking at her "Keep your head in the game." She said to him
He nod as he concentrated on the duel infront of him, many turns went by before he had almost everyones soul card on the field. Everyones..except hers.
'how far in the deck did the Goddess of the Nile go?' he wondered as he was thinking about it. He had most of his friends on the field and she was last.
"Well seems you have your friends out but your girlfriend's soul hasn't been found in the deck." Yami Bakura said
Brittania shot him a glare as they were in the midst of all this. How could she expect anything else she wasn't the one dueling but she watched as he continued the duel seeing where it would go. It wasn't long before he got the card that held the other Britt's soul.
'here it is!' He thought but he knew it required one sacrifice. Luckily on the empty spot of the field he'd set a monster there till he got her card.
"Seems you got your girlfriend's card from the look of it." Yami Bakura said to him.
Yami didn't say a thing as he made his next move. "I sacrifice a monster to bring forth the Goddess of the Nile!" Yami said
The gang all watched as the card was placed down and Britt joined them on the field. She put a hand on her head.
"Wow, what a rush." She said before looking around seeing she was on a dueling filed.
"W-What's going on?!" She yelled before looking over seeing Yugi as Dark Magician. "Y-Yugi? But if you are here then who is..."
Britt looked up seeing there was two Yugi's and two of her.
"There's two of us?!" Britt asked
"Calm down Britt." Yami said but the Britt on the field blushed at the other Yugi. She'd seen him before she was certain of that but she couldn't place where she had seen him before.
Brittania was a bit annoyed "Calm down so you can win this." She told her younger self getting her attention. "You and I are the same person. If you die then so do I so don't die." Brittania said
'Die?!' She thought then realized that they were dressed as their favorite cards.
Yami continued to finish his turn "Alright, put your trust in me. Goddess of the Nile, Attack!" He said as Britt knew her own goddess's attack. "Nile Septar blast!" both Britt's said as she finished the duel.
"NO!!!" Yami Bakura yelled as he closed his eyes
It was later when everyones soul was returned that everything seemed normal. Yami turned to Brittania looking at her.
"Who are you?" Yami asked
"As I said, I am the same as her. But to answer your question, Queen. When she fully remembers I become part of her." She said before letting Britt take over.
'Queen?' Yami thought as Yugi took over.
Everyone was waking up from the way things had been it seemed as if it was some crazy dream. They all got up and walked out of the forest.
"Wow that was crazy, good thing Hathor wasn't here." Britt said
"Speaking of Hathor, where is she?" Yugi asked
"I don't know maybe she.." before she could finish Hathor was standing there infront of them.
"I'm right here, you all seem to of had a bad thing." She said to them.
Britt linked her arm with Hathor "come on, we got a tournament to finish." Britt said to her cousin.
Hathor was smiling and laughing with Britt, but Britt felt staring on her. She would look around but never see anything.
'My Queen.' She heard that voice, it sent shivers through her and she knew it was him.
Hathor snapped her fingers but was taking glances at Yugi with a smile. She'd developed quite the crush on Yugi and couldn't deny that. Britt looked at her wondering what was going through her mind.
"Stay focused, don't let your dreams take control." Hathor said
The group made it eventually to the finals, sitting at a table was Mai, Hathor, Britt, Yugi, Joey, Bandit Keith, Tristan and Tea.
As they were sitting Britt was thinking about the whole thing back with the shadow game. She knew there was a lot going on around then. She knew she blushed at the moment she'd seen him and something about him was familiar to her but she shook it off.
'Focus, finals. Whose going to be my opponent?' She thought
Just around that time bowls of soup was put infront of them and then before they knew it some of the soups had hand crafted Millennium eyes stick out. Britt and Hathor freaked a bit since they didn't expect it. Each of them opened the eye that received one which had a number inside of it.
Mai had the number 1, Yugi had the number 2, Joey and Bandit Keith had the numbers 3 and 4 but Britt and Hathor were shocked because they had the numbers 5 and 6.
Croquet came out and introduced himself. "My name is Croquet and some of you were given numbers. Above is a screen telling you who your opponent will be and then how it will go from there." Croquet said
Britt and the others looked up seeing who they were dueling. Yugi vs Mai, Joey vs Bandit Keither, Britt vs Hathor and then it shown a three way duel that
When it came to the duels Britt watched the one between Yugi and Mai, at first it seemed as if Mai would win and she wondered what had happened knowing that she'd parted ways to go with Hathor towards the end. Though Yugi came out victourius.
Britt hadn't stayed around much for Joey's but she did catch the end to see Joey's duel, Now it was Britt and her cousin.
When each of them were there standing, Britt was hesitant.
"You ready?" Hathor asked
"Your my cousin, I can't exactly say no." Britt said
"Then consider this our rematch." Hathor answered
As the duel began it looked as if it could go either way knowing that the way things were it wasn't going to do much.
Water types vs Fire types didn't seem like it was no brainer.
"Eh, Yugi. Hathor is a fire type duelist so doesn't that mean she'd win against Britt?" Joey asked
"Not necessarily. Britt became champ back in her home town for a reason." He said
Continuing to watch it was Nile Goddess vs Fire Dragon and it didn't seem either was giving up but when Britt smiled.
"I activate Nile Crystal! As long as I have the Goddess of the Nile or one of her pets on the field then I can summon this." She said pulling a card from her hand.
"Nile Pet Dragon! Now Combine powers and attack her fire dragon." She said finishing her duel.
After that it was a three way duel that could go either way. Yugi vs Joey vs Britt so that was one everyone wanted to see. Britt and Yugi were enough to challenge each other that Joey didn't have much but it was a good duel when it came down to it. First Joey lost but then it came down to the biggest fight. Britt looked at him knowing about the whole thing knowing she was going against her Pharaoh.
'sorry but I'm not backing down." She thought
When it came down to final rounds to figure out how would win Yugi or Britt, Yugi came out victorious finding a chance to eliminate her so he would go against Pegasus.
Everyone gathered above on the balcany as Yugi's duel with Pegasus was about to start. Britt was getting a bad feeling about Pegasus and she seen him look at her.
'what does he want? Clearly he didn't invite me just to watch me lose to Yugi?' She thought
Looking down at Yugi, she knew he could win somehow but she was aware that he was aided by the Pharaoh.
When the duel started off normal minus Pegasus reading Yami's every move, it seemed almost hopeless for Yami to win. Britt was panicking a bit because her other side was getting her all worried that he would be lost, suddenly there was a dark mist going around them to the point no one could see them.
Seeing this all of them ran down there and tried to get through to get to Yugi. Britt and Hathor made it in and Britt gasped a bit holding her neck feeling like she couldn't breathe. Hathor had a hold of her around this time.
"Britt, what is this?" Hathor asked
"Sh-Shadow Game." Britt answered
Pegasus saw them not far away "well well looks like we have a couple guests." He said
Yami looked back at them "but how?" He said
Yami noticed two items glowing on the girls, one was Britt's bracelet and the other was around Hathor's ankle. He made a motion and Hathor brough Britt forward as they kneeled down to watch Hathor was trying to breathe now having problems.
Britt fought to stay awake during the duel with Hathor as they were having a big time having a difficult to control as they watched how Yugi and Yami would switch back and forth during a turn to keep Pegasus from knowing their card. To Britt that was a neat trick that she figured her and her other side could use sometime.
"Looks like they're gonna win." Hathor said
Just as she said this Yugi fell forward leaving Yami alone not knowing what card he placed down but had to have faith..
Pegasus looked at the two girls still seeing their items glow. "So the rumors are true, the reincarnated Queen and her princess cousin in my tournament." Pegasus said
"You'll...lose." Britt said to him
As the two were watching they seen Yami take Pegasus down and by the time the shadows cleared and everyone could see them again. Britt had fallen unconscious so Yami picked her up. Hathor didn't like it as she stood up seeing the Pharaoh holding her cousin.
They went searching later to find where Pegasus may have been keeping Mr. Motou's soul. It was a hard run and at first it seemed as if they were figuring out their next move. Tristan and Bakura were in the midst of getting a grappling hook connected to a string once it was connected they looked between the group.
"Tea you go first." Tristan said
"You are crazy!" She said making a motion with her skirt because she had a short skirt that if the wrong way they could see up her skirt.
"I'll do it." Yami said, he adjusted Britt with Hathor's help so her legs were wrapped around his waist and he was able to climb up with her on his back. Hathor went behind so if Britt fell she coud help and behind her was Tea with a blindfold Tristan Joey and Bakura.
When they'd gotten in they found a room and a book. Tea grabbed it and read it as they were looking around it told of Pegasus adventure to Egypt.
As they came across the cards seeing they were empty it was clear that the souls had been released. Now they were heading out to get out of the room. Britt by this time had woken up and was standing on her feet.
"Hm, what hit me?" She asked
"Long story" Yami said
Yami let Yugi take over as they were heading down stairs to leave but then suddenly a man appeared. Britt recognized this man as she'd seen him before.
"You...You're the one who..said.." Britt started but he wasn't looking at her but more looking at Yugi who held the puzzle.
He walked towards them as he put his key out and went into Yugi's mind. Britt who was standing there accidentally got sent in with Shadi. She'd landed in the Pharaoh's room and looked around.
"Well, this must be destiny then." He said to her
She looked at him "Define destiny?" She asked
He chuckled pulling her to him as he leaned in close to her "You, Queen. You are linked to my past." He said to her
He was going to lean in to kiss her and she freaked out not knowing what to do before the door to his room came up. Pulling apart they looked seeing Shadi standing there.
"The girl, Reincarnated Queen of she who lived with a great pharaoh. She showed up here." Shadi said
"Who are you? What do you seek? I will allow no harm to come to the vessel I share with the boy." Yami said
Shadi explained that a Millennium item was stolen and he only wished for the truth.
"innocent until proven guilty. A common way for this." He said before taking Britt's hand in his.
"Allow me passage through your mind. I only wish to seek the truth." Shadi said
Yami snapped his fingers revealing the passage that was there. "Search to your heats content." He said as he disappeared with her.
When they arrived, Yami put her in a chair as he looked at her. She looked up clearly clueless about what was going on and what he may of wanted with her.
"I don't know if I believe all of this reincarnation thing." Britt admitted
"Maybe, Maybe not. You will come to terms with it sometime." Yami said to her
Britt wasn't so sure she would ever come to terms with something like this but she knew someway somehow she had to because of her other side.
'Brittania, she's not in here but I am.' She thought
Yami talked with her to get through what was going on but then Shadi came in. He was walking towards them when the ground started to cave in. Britt got up and she helped him with Yami before he fell in the hole. Yugi showed up as Britt watched Yugi and Shadi walk through a door.
"secrets, the puzzle holds secrets like the bracelet." Britt said
"The puzzle and the bracelet are linked." Yami said
Britt gasped at his words before she was sent out. It wasn't much longer before that the whole gang went home to Domino City.

it is interesting seeing how the hosts’ personalities are also very similar: they’re sweet, generally polite and very pleasant. Even Marik, after learning the truth about his own past. Although in his case, was not another soul inhabiting his body but his own, split in half ー still, the same idea. It is one of those overused tropes of having good versus evil, but it works just fine. There is no doubt about the good, but for the evil, there is more to it.
for Yami Yugi, in Season 0 he was as twisted as they can get, and the reason he softened up was probably due to his host’s good influence. As the series progress and he gets to discover more about his past, a lot of things come up, not always good ones. Main example being the tragedy of the Ishtar family. Although it might not be his fault directly, he was in a position to make changes, and he did not. His own personal tragedy brought harm to many, even if unintentionally ー that could explain, maybe, his sadistic trait, at least in the very beginning ーhe seems remorseful.
for Bakura, he wished to gather the Millennium Items for power. He was a thief in his past life and had his own reasons to do the things he did, his past is not known but it is a good bet to assume that he either lived in poverty or he lost everything he had. Maybe along the way, after feeling how powerful one can get through such acts, he started doing worse things, which brought harm to others even death, he showed no remorse. The only person he seems to care about is his host Ryou, and even that he is willing to sacrifice for personal gain, probably.
for Yami Marik, he was born out of Marik’s own suffering, undergoing the painful ritual passed through his family against his will. Like the other two, this personality is linked to a Millennium Item and is made powerful through it. He is the only to seem pure evil, caring for no one and wanting to see the world burn ー going as far as trying to bargain with his host so he doesn’t get killed, even after he tried to kill his host many times. Maybe what cause he to exist in the first place was the influence of the Millennium Items, since some of them do host another souls.
they are all evil in their essence and that could also be an influence from the Millennium Items, maybe a price one must pay to use their powers, maybe a side effect of playing with the occult. That does not mean that it is absolute though, Yami Yugi have changed to the point of doing no evil, but this is because his other half is constantly with him, so the “human” influence is higher than the “Millennium” influence. All three characters had different starting points but they share very similar objectives, and exist similarly too.
#yugioh#ygo#duel monsters#this is not definitive as I still need to watch the rest#but is so good so far#to be honest the series could have ended after Battle City#(it would save us all from the angst that was to come)#shif writes

500 Word Challenge, Day 2
The Challenge: Write 500 words of a thing a day. Fic selected: Of Lost Swords and Shadow Magic Words written: 1125
Snippet under the cut:
“…I don’t believe it,” Yugi said, stunned, shaking his head. “How did Voldemort get his hands on something like that? I thought all of the Orichalcos stones were destroyed!”
“Apparently not,” Seto muttered.
He stood, leaning against his narrow wardrobe, arms crossed tightly over his chest. Yugi sat on the edge of his bed with the Pharaoh spirited out beside him. The others were around the small dormitory, but seeing as Seto only seemed to look to Yugi as he spoke, telling the tale they were all eager to hear but too hesitant to ask, they may as well have been down in the common room.
“You think he was after the power of the Orichalcos this entire time, and the Millennium Items were a decoy?” Yami asked.
“I don’t really know what to think,” said Seto. “Once he started asking questions about the Orichalcos stones, I stopped talking, and that pretty much ended all conversation about it. He didn’t say where exactly he got it from, but from the little bit I gathered, Voldemort isn’t 100% sure what it is. When the monsters appeared and started taking souls, the wizards seemed to chalk it up to a rise in Dementor attacks, because it was around the time last year when they supposedly fled the prison.”
Yami was quiet for a minute. “Well…regardless of how he acquired one…the Leviathan is dead. The stones don’t work anymore. The Seals have all been destroyed.”
“But are you sure about that? Really sure?” said Seto, “Clearly at least one stone survived. What’s to say that there might still be one card out there in the world. Just because Dartz and his three cronies aren’t running around brainwashing people, that doesn’t mean they weren’t the only ones. What if Voldemort had one? All he would have needed was a strong duelist to channel that energy, and think of all of the damage he would have been able to do, without magic, and be blameless for it all?”
“…And he had you,” said Ryou softly. “I wonder if that was truly the plan all along…”

(2004-2019)
Like I did with Atem, I revamped the olde Seto Kaiba piccie as well! This time, though, I armored Kisara too and she looks astonishingly beautiful! I became a fan of this couple the first time I watched the ancient Egypt saga, Kisara was adorable and Seto-san's past self was a handsome dork! Of course I cried when I watched Kisara's death yet she managed to leave him with a farewell gift..her Ka and Ba gifting him with the legendary Blue Eyes Dragon! I think that Seto's fondness towards the card mirrors Yugi's towards the Dark Magician, way before meeting as fellow duelists they may had unconscious memories of their past lives lingering deep in their hearts hence why Seto's obsession on gathering all the blue eye dragon cards (besides being number 1 in the Duelists ranking and being the most admirable asshole as well ) Well, here I drew Seto posing with a personalized armor with Kisara. She's sort of her guardian angel , always keeping an eye over him. She's holding one of the millennium items, weighting Seto's possible fate when his time is up. In the Ancient Egypt, one the soul of the dead reaches the Afterlife, must face several challenges. The final challenge takes place in the Hall of Two Truths, the heart is weighted against a single "Feather of Maʽat". If the heart was found to be lighter or equal in weight to the feather of Maat, the deceased had led a virtuous life and would go on to paradise. Otherwise the soul will meet a fate much worse than death itself! Well, I hope everybody likes the updated version of Warrior Seto Kaiba.

Trinkets, Necklaces, 1: Whether they're pendants, amulets, periapts, chokers, beaded strings, chains, charms, lockets or torques, “Neck Slot” type jewelry is a very common item in fiction and roleplaying. These ornaments give an immediate glance into the bearer's personality, wealth, rank or social class and often serves as an iconic part of that character's look. Ranging in obviousness from a soldiers dog tags, cleric's holy symbol or police detectives badges worn front and center over clothing, immediately visible on their chest as a clear indication of who they are, to the cliché locket containing pictures of family or lost lovers that's worn against the skin, just over the heart. Outgoing character's such as Phoebe Bouffette compliment their natural charisma with loud colorful costume jewelry while more reserved examples often go without, though what little ornamentation they do have is meaningful or of good quality like Katara's heirloom choker or Annie's half-a-locket. A locked metal torque can instantly mark the bearer a penniless slave, while a string of lustrous pearls mark their owner a flauntingly wealthy noble. Magical necklaces in fiction are powerful and mysterious from Inuyasha's Beads of Subjugation, Dr Strange's Eye of Agamotto or Yugi's Millennium Puzzle. None of these necklaces are intensely magical in their own right but can serve as basis for a magical or plot relevant amulet. When a DM rolls a d100, the bog standard amulet of protection +1 they were going to give out now has a unique look and personality rather than just a mechanical benefit.
A chain of heavy steel links meant to be worn around the neck. When worn, the bearer can recall the chain's firsthand experience of being forged as if it was a personal experience. The cooling and hardening of the cherry red metal, the hammering of steel, and the rough grip of the blacksmith moving it about. The chain's memories of it's fiery birth are fond and pleasant.
A moonstone pendant that make small laughing noises when misplaced or lost.
A coal medallion that allows its bearer to hear the voices of winter spirits on the wind.
A pendant carved from translucent blue stone that resembles vines or tentacles wrapped around an unseen object. Creatures who stare at it for an extended period of time feel vaguely uncomfortable in a way they cannot properly describe.
A glass pendant filled with water that stays still, churns, freezes or boils to match its bearer's mood.
A simple rounded, pendant on a brass chain that has no effect when worn. Even so, pleasant memories are crucial to survival on arduous journeys.
An old, worn strip of deer hide fashioned into a short necklace. On it hangs a small piece of rock hard, stale bread. If the bearer takes a sniff of the bread, they are momentarily flooded with fond memories of home.
A brass locket containing a portrait of man with fire for hair and smoke emerging from his mouth.
A brass pendant with a jet center. The pendant has different symbols on either side. One is a symbol of a white dove, while the other is that of a birdcage. If the pendant is spun quickly the two images become superimposed on each other so that the bird is both caged and uncaged.
A steel torc engraved with the image of wild boars charging.
—Keep reading for 90 more necklaces.
—Note: The previous 10 items are repeated for easier rolling on a d100.

A six-inch elongated teardrop pendant made of glowing crystal that seems to have no weight and very little physical substance.
A small bronze torc engraved on which is a scene depicting five people gathering around a mountain with lightning coming from the summit.
A steel amulet bearing the seal of an order of paladins that were excommunicated under suspicious circumstances years ago.
An amulet depicting the image of Orc god Gruumsh, anyone who wears it finds themselves unconsciously keeping one of their eyes closed at all times.
An iron holy symbol of a God of a Random Evil Domain that has a well hidden secret compartment. It contains a single blood stained gold piece wrapped in scraps of cloth so that it does not rattle.
One half of a white gold, heart necklace. Inscribed on the back are the words “Till next we meet”.
An asymmetrical piece of sparkling red crystal on a simple leather necklace.
A broken pendent in the shape of a silver dragon that’s always cold to the touch.
A braided hemp cord on which is strung a gemstone pendant that changes color every morning.
A necklace formed of the interlinked holy symbols of a dozen deities.
A necklace bearing the fossilized stinger of a giant insect creature that's long been extinct.
A choker necklace made of copper wire and the finger bones of dozens of rats.
A gruesome necklace of humanoid finger bones strung on braided sinew cord.
A necklace of varying spherical and odd-shaped shimmering stones that grants a sleeping bearer vaguely prophetic dreams.

it's totally cool if you'd prefer not to answer this (i've noticed it's a bit of a sensitive subject in fandom)- I was a bit curious, What did you personally think of the Ceremonial Duel?
This is a very good ask, though my answer may not be able tomeet that expectation.
The Ceremonial Duel is something of a multifaceted topic, isn’t it? My own take, the reception itreceived overall by fans, and the behind the scenes aspect, as well as my ideafor how it both fits and clashes with various aspects of the series if I feellike including that break down too. It’s also something I’m not emotionallycharged on. My feelings on it are neutral and I’m able to see the merits ofboth sides of the argument of whether it’s a fine or garbage ending.
If I had to sum it up in one sentence: I think the endingwas very heavily foreshadowed from early on within the series, but it has majorproblems, and that Atem’s feelings were left so intentionally ambiguous isintriguing to me.
Prior to DSoD, as a lurker coasting around odd fandom spacesfrom time to time, I did have the impression YGO’s conclusion was somethingpeople were iffy on. As far as I’ve been able to gather, Japan’s fandom hadsome iffiness too. I think the announcement of The Darkside of Dimensionsreally illuminated the fandom divide on the ending in a way. There were manyfans who were flatly rejecting DSoD altogether on principle, but the film ofcourse set out to examine some of the wounds left in the wake of Atem’s departure, and that’s something many fans had also felt haunted by. (There are of coursefans who despise both the original ending and DSoD, and there are of coursefans who are alright with both the original ending and DSoD; my point is more noticingthe split of fans’ receptiveness to a continuation.)
People dissect apart that final duel to try justifying theirtake on Atem’s feelings. An expression that could be taken as somber, anexpression that could be taken as one of relief; dialog drops grabbed fromcharacters who are not Atem but instead projecting onto Atem; etc. The truth isthere isn’t an answer in canon on whether Atem definitely wanted to leave ordefinitely wanted to stay. His feelings were left ambiguous; and I find thatchoice intriguing. It would’ve been so simple to give lines to Atem announcinghis relief at finally being able to rest, or announcing his crushing pain athaving to depart from the world. Instead the event is treated like a mechanismof nature.
My personal interpretation on this ambiguity is this: “ifthe items wanted to reunite inside the Millennium Stone, if the items couldmanipulate their bearers for the sake of reuniting there, if the items had noconcern for human life… I don’t think it’s out of the question the MillenniumPuzzle planted an inescapable urge inside Atem to depart to the netherworld. Ithink it really is like a salmon swimming upstream to die.”That’s not to say I’m correct; it’s just my reading.
And I also wrote this bit some time back, back before the “discourse”regarding the finale bubbled over and became bright: “I think, like so manyshonen series, Yu-Gi-Oh! was ultimately a metaphor for the journey fromadolescence into adulthood. Yugi saw Atem as a kind of idealized self. “Youwere my goal,” as he says. Their relationship became much more complex thanthat, but I think Atem leaving was meant to symbolize Yugi letting go of thisidea of an idealized self, this person he thought he should become when he wasyounger, and accepting himself for who he is. The metaphor becomes messy thoughbecause Atem is a character in his own right, with his own identity and desiresand fears, and his departure does contradict several other messages of theseries (staking your worth on a game??).”
The characters left behind would be wounded. It would hurtand they’d be haunted. Atem was not Yugi’s idealized self. He was a person. Hewas their friend.
But I don’t actually hate the original ending, in partbecause it seemed so obvious to me. I feel the immense foreshadowing shouldn’tjust be brushed aside in this discussion. And the behind the scenes aspectlooms large here: there was no time to course correct for KT. Either he had toshatter all the foreshadowing he spent seven years crafting, or he had to sendoff Atem with exceedingly poor justification in text. By that time, he’d beenabandoned by his audience and may have felt little need to break away from theoriginal plan. But that doesn’t mean fans can’t be upset about it.
The precise reason fans are upset is because they care aboutthese characters so much; I have to respect that. It’s honest pain. There’ssomething sour with this ending to leave that kind of scar on fans. But I findthe occasional mocking and moralizing comments that have come up aimed atpeople who liked the ending to be uncalled for. Humans read into fiction invery individual ways, and I think that should also be respected. (Though I’ve beentold this situation of one side sometimes mocking the other used to be inreverse.)
If I have to play defense for the original conclusion, it’dbe in how I feel there’s shades of sad nostalgia enveloping those moments. Despitethe metaphor of growing up itself collapsing, the feeling of ghosts and lostthings from adolescence you can never get back is there.
Even for fans who see the ending as something uplifting andhopeful; it’s a personal feeling and reading. Yugi accomplished his goal of helpingsomeone who had helped him. Likely, they interpreted Atem’s expressions in the endas ones of relief.
(I actually realized not too long ago that the anime had itsown foreshadowing, unintentionally perhaps, in Noa Kaiba as he understands he’salready dead and must accept his fate.)
If I have any last thoughts to include, they are unneededbut it’d be that the longest fanfic I ever successfully completed kind of examinedthe holes in the finale. I have no intentions of ever posting this fic and havealready cannibalized pieces of it for other fics but it was like this: Atem, feeling the strange tug on his heart to go to Egypt but hesitant, decides he’llwait to make his decision. This enrages the Millennium Puzzle and it seals Ateminside, not allowing him to manifest or communicate with the world at all untilthe Millennium Items are gathered at the tomb in Egypt. Yugi units the Items insidethe Millennium Stone, at which time Horakhty emerges before Atem inside thePuzzle. The Items combined allow a wish, one far more powerful than anyindividual Item’s wish. Horakhty tells Atem this wish even has the power toreturn life to a ghost. But now see, this fic was an edgy angstfest whereanother character had been killed off near the beginning of the story. Atem hasno hesitation in spending his wish for this person, and time loops back. Atemis able to stop the accident from happening. No one else remembers anything. And as time moves forward again, that’s why Atem’s feelings are so nebulous andyet set on his departure from the world. …… I don’t know if this was relevantto include, but it seems kind of related.
Thank you for the ask. I hope I gave an adequate answer. I’mopen to the thoughts of others on this.

Superhero AU
You can read it as The Failings of Project Millennium here! Hope ya enjoy!
“You could have killed him!”
He was sick of having this argument. “So what? Maybe someone should actually do it and put the kid out of his misery!”
“Are you even listening to yourself?! He's a child!”
“Barely. You know he barely qualifies as even a 'he' anymore. That's not your son; that's an experiment gone haywire!”
“He's still family, Malik.”
“Then I'm doing him a favor.”
The thought back to the argument filled Malik with regret. He could still see the look on his sister's face when she heard him talk so bluntly about Horus. He knew none of this was easy for Isis. The day she presented the infant to Kaiba was the lowest he'd ever seen her. But he helped convince her it was all for the best. The Kaiba Corp scientists would treat him well. He would be able to help people. He would be a hero.
Malik wasn't completely wrong. Horus was alive and well. He was running around the city as a masked vigilante. Although the fact that he was seeking out his mother was concerning, in a way.
It was also concerning that one of his eyes looked as though it had lenses. He decided it was probably for the best that he didn't tell that part to his sister. Just like he didn't tell her about all the other children who were brought in to partake in the abilities they themselves had trouble controlling.
His powers pulled as he felt someone step up from behind him. He sighed and closed his eyes. “I told you this wouldn't-” He immediately snapped his mouth shut when he saw his visitor wasn't Horus. It was a different mask; the mask of a falcon with an orange sun on the forehead.
Malik turned to him completely. “You witnessed the fight today. I'm guessing your name is Ra?”
He nodded. “One of my names, yes.”
“You hid your abilities well. Why didn't you attack me with Horus?”
Ra looked down for a moment and thought deeply about his answer. “Horus... doesn't know I'm around. I'd like to keep it that way for now.”
Malik tilted his head and crossed his arms. “Is there a reason or do you just like to be all secretive for no reason?”
“Horus and I aren't the only two. There's still two more out in the world. I know where one of them is located. The other, however...”
“I know about Anubis. I saw the files.” It didn't take much to gain the information he needed. Just a quick manipulation of one of the Kaiba Corp employee's mind.
“Then you know what I'm going to ask.”
Malik nodded and sighed through his nose. “I do. And I won't get involved. I just want to move on with my life and leave this mess behind.”
Ra shrugged. “That's enough for me. Just stay out of the way and you'll get exactly that.” He moved to the edge of the building.
“It might be a good idea to keep close to Horus. Anubis might be following him.”
He only paused to hear what Malik had to say. Then, he stepped off into a dark void he created himself.
Malik watched and let out a breath. These children were going to be more of a problem than Ra claimed; he could feel it.
-
“It burns!”
“Stop whining. If you didn't try to get into a fight with your uncle, you wouldn't be in this position.”
Atem pouted at Kaiba and fought to get away from his hands. But then the cloth was pressed against his temple again and he hissed.
Kaiba held it there for a moment. The blood had been cleared away but there was still the possibility of infection if the wounds weren't properly cleaned and bandaged. Wounds like this always took much longer to heal than the simple knife or bullet wound. “Hold it there.”
Atem placed his hand over the cloth as Kaiba let go. He watched him turn away and prepare something to cover the cut.
“You're lucky he didn't cut any deeper or else we'd be looking at your skull.” Kaiba picked up the mask and observed it. Aside from a few dents in the gold, it was still intact. “We might want to consider modifying this to protect you better.”
“I like it the way it is.”
“It's not doing its job.”
Atem raised an eyebrow. “Its job is to protect my identity. I think it's doing it very well.”
Seto looked as though he wanted to say something but quickly thought better of it. He clenched his jaw and put the mask down. “There's no malfunction in your eye, right?”
Atem shook his head.
Kaiba pushed Atem's hand away and put a bandage over the wound. “Try to keep yourself from getting killed before that heals. I have to get back to work cleaning up your other mess.”
Atem felt something tense in him as Kaiba turned away. He hopped off the table and headed for the door.
“One more thing.”
He turned back and looked at his 'cousin.' Kaiba picked up the blood covered cloth but didn't look at him. “Don't let yourself get too attached to Yugi. That's how you'll end up getting hurt.”
Atem snorted and looked away. “You would think that.” He walked out the door and left Kaiba to his thoughts.
-
“You've never been to Burger World?”
“Is it really that strange?” Atem smiled in amusement but felt a small bit of concern. What was the possibility of this blowing his cover?
Yugi shrugged. “Maybe not. I just never met anyone who didn't go there at least once. We used to go all the time in high school.” He adjusted the bag on his arm and smiled. “Anyway, Some friends and I are meeting up there. We might hit up the arcade or something too. Do you wanna come?”
Atem blinked and stopped walking. He'd never been invited anywhere. In his defense, it was largely due to never really stepping foot outside the Kaiba mansion up until a week ago but... would Kaiba be mad?
Did he actually care? Yugi was asking him to meet up with friends! People! People who weren't servants who feared him or the Kaiba brothers who still treated him like some kind of child. An overpowered child, yes, but a child.
Atem smiled. “I'd love to.”
Yugi smiled back. He liked that smile. “Great! Let's go!”
The walk there was quick. It was almost too quick for Atem's taste. It didn't give him a lot of time to learn about Yugi. To learn what made him smile. To learn what brought him absolute joy. But these were things he expected to learn in time. All he had to do was stay close.
A group of people waved from a couple of tables away from the door. Yugi beamed and nearly ran to the table. Atem followed suit.
“Yo, Yugi! You're just in time!” A taller boy with shaggy blond hair grinned with a wave. His smile fell ever so slightly at the sight of the stranger. Still friendly just more guarded.
Yugi continued to smile as he gestured to his new friend. “Oh. Atem this is Jounouchi,” he gestured to the blond, “Honda,” the brunet boy next to Jounouchi, “And Anzu,” the brunette girl on the opposite side of the table. Yugi then turned and looked at them as he gestured to Atem. “Guys, this is Atem. He's Kaiba's cousin.”
Jounouchi snorted as Yugi guided Atem to sit in the booth. “Kaiba's cousin, eh? Sorry to hear that.”
Honda rolled his eyes and looked at Atem. “Jou's got a bit of a sour history with Kaiba.”
Atem's lip twitched into a soft smirk. “Doesn't everyone?”
The blond barked out a laugh but didn't go any further as Yugi pulled up a chair for himself.
Anzu turned and looked at Atem. “So, how'd you meet Yugi?”
Atem sat up a little straighter. “We have a few classes together.”
“Atem's been helping me a lot. He's kind of brilliant.” Yugi grinned at the other fondly. He watched with satisfaction as a light blush came over the other boy.
“I wouldn't go that far.”
Anzu leaned on the table and eyed the newcomer with a soft smile. “What're you studying at DIT?”
He shrugged. “It was just a good opportunity to learn something new.” And that turned into a very good decision. He glanced over at Yugi and saw the eyes still on him. They were smiling just like he did at the mention of friends.
Atem couldn't help but smile back. The look was interrupted by a waiter taking their orders. He listened closely as everyone listed what they wanted and figured out the pattern for it before ordering his own items.
He had no idea what he was getting but it was enough to know he would be blending in easily with the other people. Throughout the meal, he mostly just listened to them talk about games and such. Occasionally he would throw in his thoughts. Living in the Kaiba mansion surrounded by the very games that replaced weapons made him pretty knowledgeable in games of all types.
But it would seem there was a reason Kaiba got so frustrated with Yugi. Yugi made Kaiba look like an amateur by comparison and he did it in a way that was far from intimidating. Questions were answered without a scoff or even a hint of annoyance. Rather, the questions were met with enthusiasm for the opportunity to teach someone about his passion. It was refreshing.
The arcade wasn't too far from the burger place. It was only a block down, right past the spot where the Pharaoh was thrown into a window and defeated. The window still sported the spider-web crack from his body and the sidewalk looked as though it had some kind of crack of its own.
Atem tried not to look at that spot.
Everyone scattered when they entered the arcade. The place was already pretty crowded but that was fine. No one cared they had to wait a moment for a game.
Atem found his way over to a shooting game about shooting people who came back from the dead. He'd seen Honda challenge Yugi to a fighting game and a small crowd had gathered around Anzu as she worked on getting a perfect score on the dance game near the front.
“Mind if I join ya?” Jounouchi picked up the second player gun and put in a few tokens.
Atem smiled to him as the two began annihilating anything that stood in their way. They did it in silence for half of a level before Jounouchi spoke up.
“So, uh... Kaiba, eh?”
Atem nodded.
“How long you been there?”
“I guess it's been about three months.”
The blond was silent for a moment. He shot a few of the enemies getting a little too close to Atem. “So... don't look too deep into this but... How's he been?”
Atem glanced up at Jou. He stared into his eyes, hoping for some clue as to why that question was asked. Especially after what was said in the burger place. “He's been... Kaiba. No better or worse, I guess.”
Jounouchi nodded and tried his best to cover his smile. “Right. Of course, he is. Rich bastard's never gonna change.”
Atem snorted and emptied his clip into one of the bigger enemies. It would seem this sour relationship had a mixture of sweetness to it. But he didn't feel as though he was in a position to call Jou out on it.
“He must be pissed about your crush on Yugi.”
Damn. He should've asked. Instead, he stumbled with his gun. He just held it for a moment while Jou covered him. “Is it that obvious?”
“To me it is. Don't know if Yugi noticed cuz he's always in his own head.” Jou smirked without looking away from the screen. “Don't worry, bud. I got your back.” He stopped shooting as a cutscene loaded on screen. “Just let me know when you decide to make a move cuz I've got some advice.”
“...Did you and him...?”
“Hah, no not really. I've just been around long enough to watch a couple of people try and fail because they weren't speaking his language. But I got a good feeling from you.”
Atem blinked and tilted his head. He wasn't completely sure, but he thought this was probably a good thing. He wanted to be liked by Jounouchi. Despite his odd connection to Kaiba, which may or may not have been severed. He smiled softly and nodded. “Thank you, Jounouchi.”
“Eh, it's no big deal.”
“Grab the Rocket Launchers! They're our only chance to take him down!”
They turned back to see the giant monster on screen. Both brought up their guns and they switched over to the more powerful weapon.
A small message appeared in Atem's eye to indicate Kaiba was trying to contact him. It glowed red, softly and right near the edge of his peripheral. Atem ignored it.
-
“I'm gonna need a rematch soon.”
“Should we be takin' bets this time? I'm pretty sure you're not going to beat him.”
Yugi smiled. “He got close this time.”
Anzu shook her head and sighed at the shorter boy. “You know you're just encouraging this to go on longer.”
“Not on purpose.”
Atem just smiled to himself as he listened to the group. It was nice to be around people who could be so carefree. For a while, he wasn't sure people like this really existed outside of the fictional worlds he'd seen before. But here they were, as real as him.
He paused and lost his smile at the sound of a helicopter overhead. He didn't have to look around to know he wasn't the only one to hear it. They all knew what it meant.
Seto Kaiba walked up to the group casually.
Atem watched as everyone's stances changed from relaxed to tense. All four of his new friends looked at Kaiba as if they were preparing for a fight. But not a word was spoken. The CEO walked passed them all as his eyes landed on Atem. He said nothing as his gaze stayed locked.
Atem stood his ground as Kaiba stopped by his side. “Last warning.” He said it so softly Atem was sure none of the other people in his group could hear it.
Atem didn't open his mouth. He clenched his jaw and sent a message in his silence. Kaiba would not continue to run his life. He could bitch and moan all he wanted but at the end of the day, Atem would decide for himself what he wanted to do.
The message landed. He could tell by the way his faux cousin walked away. He could also tell the argument was far from over. The experiences of arguments in their past led him to that conclusion.
But, for now, it was done. For now, Atem had won.
But somehow the victory felt concerning as it sat in the back of his mind. There was something he wasn't considering. A longer game.
That was the one Atem would have to win. Both of them knew that more than anything.
-
Yugi was a little disappointed when Atem decided it was time for him to leave. It was possible whatever Kaiba had mumbled to him was enough to get him to return home but that didn't stop the dejected feeling that flowed through him. He wanted to spend more time with Atem; he wanted to get to know him better.
He wanted a lot of things from Atem.
It was kind of like his old crush on Anzu except with a different level of intensity. When he liked Anzu in a way a little more than platonic, it could be considered nothing more than innocent puppy love. He had thought about dating and possibly an overindulgence in fantasies of marriage and a family. Sure, sexual thoughts came to mind but...
But the fantasies weren't the same. Anzu was sweet and loving; Atem was hot and heavy. Fewer candles and roses, more ropes and bite marks. And something in his eyes made Yugi think he caught onto the thoughts.
Or maybe he was just hoping Atem was a mind reader so he didn't have to eventually admit to it.
Yugi walked into the game shop to find all the lights were off. He could only assume his grandfather wasn't feeling well and decided to close up early for the night. Although, if that were the case, he would usually call and see if Yugi would have the time to stand in for him.
But then he heard the sound of something beeping from the back room. He followed the sound. “Grandpa?”
The soft beeping stopped.
Yugi walked into the room and glanced around at all the boxes that were open. The contents inside had been shifted around as if his grandfather were looking for something important. He spotted him as the old man slowly climbed to his feet.
Yugi moved in closer. “Are you having trouble finding something?”
Sugoroku chuckled. “Oh no, I'm just working on doing some restocking. The shelves were looking a bit sparse after today's rush.”
Yugi glanced back out into the store. He hadn't remembered seeing much out of place. The store had been a little slow lately so pretty much all the same products were on the shelves for the last few months. Still, he didn't call his grandfather out on it. “Sorry, I should've been here to help.”
The older Mutou waved it off. “Eh, you have your own life and your friends. I wasn't gonna spoil your good time so you could come here and just watch me work.”
Yugi smiled softly for a second before it fell into a curious look. “What's that?” He pointed to the tablet in his grandfather's hand.
Sugoroku immediately turned off the screen. “Nothing really. Just a new thing for cataloging the store. A gift from a friend.” Before Yugi could ask another question, he changed the subject. “I'm sure you have a lot of school work. Why don't you go get started on that? I'll have dinner ready soon.”
Yugi eyed his grandfather for a moment before the smile was forced to return. He nodded. “Yeah. Yeah, I'll do that.” He turned back to the door. “Just let me know if you need help, okay?”
“Don't worry about me, kiddo.” He waved at Yugi's retreating form happily before his face fell again and he returned to the tablet. He turned it back on and continued to look over the updated condition of Subject Horus and the pictures sent to him. He needed to work to see if he could figure out who sent this to him.
But he had a feeling he knew exactly who. He wondered what caused the man to rise again; last they spoke he only wanted to live his life without another thought to any of this. No more experiments; no more enhanced children.
But it looked as though Subject Horus was still alive and well. That could be dangerous if he ran into any of the other three.
He didn't know what Gorzuburo did to his poor sons but now knowing Horus was still around, he could only assume the worst. Sugoroku tapped on the screen and found his contact has kindly given him a short list of people to contact with more information.
It would seem Seto Kaiba knew something considering his name was there. But Sugoroku clicked on a different name. One that seemed much more dire.
It was simply labeled Valentine.

Fate, Part 3: Dream
And finally, here’s part three! I’m sorry this took so long. I had other things I was writing, and lost track of it. Which is weird because this was the part I wanted to write the most. It was the first idea I came up with for this drabble, but it probably wouldn’t make much sense without the first two. This was also going to be the last part, but it got longer than I wanted, so I split it up. Hopefully part 4 won’t take as long.
Yugi, now eight years old, was helping his grandfather move around the boxes in the back of the store. Solomon noticed how sad the boy was when Téa moved a few weeks ago, due to her father’s job, so he tried keeping him occupied as much as he could. Yugi picked up a large box, covered in dust.
“Where do you want this Grandpa?” he asked, stumbling as he walked.
“Be careful, Yugi,” Solomon instructed. “Some of these boxes are a bit—“
“Whoa!” Crash.
“…heavy.”
Yugi fell over with the contents of the box scattered. He hated being so little. He was hoping to get a huge growth spurt soon, although height wasn’t a strong trait in the family.
He began to gather the items when he noticed something shining behind some old packages on a lower shelf. Pushing them aside, he found a small golden box with strange markings on it. An eye staring at him. He was mesmerized by it.
“Grandpa, what’s this?”
Solomon put down what he was carrying and came over to his grandson. His eyes widened when he saw him holding the box. The object he found so many years ago. He had nearly forgotten about it.
“This is something very precious Yugi,” he explained. “This is the Millennium Puzzle. It is an ancient artifact from Egypt. It was found in the tomb of a great pharaoh.”
“How do you know so much about it, Grandpa?”
“I-it was all over the news back in the day. A British team discovered it. Not sure why it would be here. It must have somehow ended up in the possession of the previous store owner or something.”
Solomon hated lying to his grandson, but he didn’t think it would be a good idea to tell the boy he found it. There was something strange about that tomb. About that Puzzle.
Yugi inspected the box again. He didn’t understand the odd symbols on it. “What are these pictures for?”
“They’re hieroglyphics, Yugi. It is an ancient form of writing, like kanji.”
“What does it say?”
“I’m not sure. Must have something to do with the Puzzle itself.” Again, that wasn’t entirely true. For some reason, he could read hieroglyphics, even though he had never studied them. What was written was chilling. ‘Whoever solves this puzzle will inherit my dark knowledge and power.’ It must have had something to do with those Shadow Games he heard about. Those were things you should not tell an eight year old. It would scare him.
Yugi tried to figure out what it said himself. If it had something to do with the Puzzle, maybe something to do with magic. Old stuff and legends always did. And if it was some sort of challenge to solve, maybe it had a reward, like a wish. That’s it! Solving the Millennium Puzzle must grant a wish.
“Grandpa can I have it?” Yugi asked with pure excitement in his voice.
“I don’t know.” Giving a child a powerful artifact was definitely not a good idea. Solomon had tried to solve it himself. He couldn’t fit one piece in. It might break the boy’s heart if he could’t do it. But…
“Please!”
The old man sighed. “Alright.”
“Yes!” Yugi was so happy, he ran right to his room. He set the box on the floor and opened the top. His amazement continued when he saw the Puzzle fragments inside were gold as well. He picked up one piece, and a strange sensation ran through his body. There was indeed something special about it. Maybe it will grant his wish.
Since Téa moved away, he tried to make new friends, but he could barely talk to anyone. If he did get a wish, he would wish for friends. He spent the rest of the day working on the Millennium Puzzle, but didn’t make any headway. His mother came in after nightfall and tucked him into bed.
—————
Later that night, Yugi found himself walking down a dark, cold path. There were pictures of monsters on the floor. It was weird, he didn’t recognize this place, yet he felt he had been here before. He couldn’t see anything, and it felt very lonely down here.
Then, a light appeared at the end. He didn’t know what it was, but it felt like it belonged to him. He tried to walk towards it, but he wasn’t moving. And when he ran, the light got further away.
Suddenly, the area around him crumbled away and he was outside. The sky was dark, and the sun was hidden. Yugi was scared by what was happening, but not as much by what he saw next. He turned around, and saw a large shadowy beast, bigger than a than anything he had ever seen, glaring at him. He couldn’t make out what it was, but there were two set of glowing red eyes. One at the top and another half way down, as if on a second head.
Yugi tried to scream, but no sound came out. He wanted to run, but his legs wouldn’t move. He was completely frozen by fear and helplessness. Like nothing he had ever felt before. The monster rose its hand, it charged right towards Yugi, and—
“AAHHHH!!!”
Yugi shot straight out of bed, screaming at the top of his lungs. He broke out in a cold sweat, gasping for air. His family soon came running in. Yugi clung onto his mother when she reached for him.
“It was gonna get me,” he cried, tears falling down his face. He continues to shout from terror and fear. Yugi did not sleep at all for the rest of the night.

The Immortal Pharaoh Chapter 26
You know, for someone who is terrified of hospitals, I write a lot of scenes of people in them.
Yugi groaned and rolled over. At first, he was confused as to where he was but it didn’t take long to realize that he was, yet again, in the hospital. His face felt tender. Reaching up, he poked at the area around his nose and hissed when it sent pain shooting into the rest of him. Someone chuckled. He looked up from behind his hands as Isis entered the room, a smile brightly on her face as she sat a glass of water and some medicine on his bedside table, “You might want to be careful. You do have a broken nose.” She held her dress under her as she sat by his side. “Though thankfully no evidence of it; the doctors were able to set it before it became a permanent feature.” He smiled weakly at her.
"It would’ve been a good story,” he joked. She shook her head but did laugh a little. He looked around. “Where’s Yami?” She looked over her shoulder at the curtain that separated him from his roommate, “Sleeping. You missed quite a bit when you took that hit.” He grew serious.
“What exactly did I miss?” “Yami was able to defeat Malik for one,” she confirmed, “but he did so by summoning the guardians of the gods.” Yugi blinked.
“So you’re saying… he summoned a god just like Malik did?” She nodded.
“Yes, but not just one. He summoned two.” Yugi blinked. She continued, “You see, the reason Yami was put into the tomb was because of his connection to the gods; only one with this kind of connection would have been able to summon them and use their power to defeat the coming darkness.” She closed her eyes. “That is at least what Doctor Hopkins has been able to tell me from what information he has gathered from his tomb. He is afraid there isn’t much more in terms of how to defeat this darkness exactly.” Yugi nodded and squeezed his hands. “I’m sorry. I wasn’t much help out there this time,” he confirmed. She shook her head. “You were very brave Yugi. It was because of you that Yami was able to summon the gods he did.” She paused. "He spent a great deal of energy to make this miracle occur. I do not know if he would have the strength to do it again any time soon."
His shoulders slumped, “At least we know he can summon them now. That should be good for us... right?” She smiled.
“Yes, it is.” Isis stood then. Yugi watched her for a second.
“Isis?” She stopped. “What happened with Malik and the rod?” She paused before turning back to him.
“Yami summoned two gods,” she reaffirmed, “and they battled their brother. Together, they easily defeated the captured god and freed him from Malik’s evil control. Not only that. Once the darkness had been broken and weakened through one connection, it lost its control in the other. Malik was able to return to himself long enough to willingly pass the rod to Yami before he too collapsed." Her smile softened. "I had to call for some help but everyone made it here in one piece.” She paused again. “We all need the rest. We’re worn out. Return to sleep Yugi; tomorrow will be a brighter day.” He nodded before tucking back into the covers, rolling over to stare at the curtain, eventually returning to sleep.
*****
His vision swam when he woke up. It felt like fire was raging in every part of his body and Malik wanted to scream. He didn’t though. Someone appeared in his vision. He had to blink to be sure it was really Rishid he was staring at. He opened his mouth to ask something but only a cough came out and the standing man helped him sit up before giving him a bit of water. Rishid helped him back down then too. When it felt he was back to himself, he tried again. This time he was interrupted by the opening of his hospital room door and a crowd of people calling out excitedly.
The next thing he knew Jounouchi and Honda were upon him, excitedly welcoming him back. Anzu had to hit the two of them on the head before they would back off. Behind them, Yami leaned on a crutch while Yugi stood next to him, both smiling. Isis beamed and they gave her entrance to the room. She stood beside his bed, “Welcome back my brother.”
“Isis, Rishid, everyone,” he whispered. He coughed again and he was given more water. “Where am I? How did I get here?”
“How you got here was through giving us a heart attack man,” Jonouchi cut in. Malik blinked.
“Wh-what?”
“You disappeared while looking for that mysterious white haired guy,” Honda added in. “We searched for you for days,” said Anzu.
“But when we found you, you had the Millennium Rod and were totally crazy, trying to kill us,” Yugi stated. His eyes went wide and he looked down at his hands.
“Did… did that really happen?” He looked up to his family, who nodded, before turning to Yami who slowly nodded as well. He bowed his head again. “I’m sorry everyone….”
“Don’t be,” Jounouchi chirped, patting him roughly on the shoulder. “If anything’s to blame, it’d be that stupid Millennium Rod.” His face paled. “T-the rod chose me?” Isis nodded, “That it did my brother.” She motioned to Yami. “He defeated you though so it rightfully passed to him.” His shoulders relaxed.
“So does that mean…?” She shook her head.
“We do not know,” she told him softly, “if it will try to reattach to you. Rishid and I have asked an acquaintance to hold on to it for now as well as the scales that lay unclaimed and the eye.” She looked at Yami. He held up his hand.
“I understand,” he assured her. “You weren’t sure how long I was going to sleep. It was for the best.” She looked relieved. Jounouchi narrowed his eyes.
“How do we know your acquaintance can be trusted?” She turned on him and he backed off. “Because our acquaintance owes us a favor or two,” she hinted, “especially since I helped with one of his game designs a few years ago.” “No way,” Yugi cut in, causing everyone to look at him, “The only person I can think of that designs games and has the security for Millennium Items is Seto Kaiba!” The others gasped. Isis leaned her head to the side. “Is that a problem?”
“A problem,” Jounouchi scoffed, “The guy has an ego a mile wide….”
“But can be trusted to come through when needed,” she interjected. Jounouchi clapped his mouth shut. Honda patted his shoulder. “Sorry dude. Looks like we’re going to have to put up with him again.” “Yeah. I just thought I got enough of him when he finally left Domino High.” He groaned flopping back on the bed. The Ishtars eyed the others but Anzu waved her hands.
“Don’t ask. It’s a long story,” she sighed. Isis shrugged. Rishid stood then, pulling out from his coat, a CD. “Whether you like him or not, he was able to get us this,” he added. “It’s the security video for the Museum.” Isis turned to her bag which had been sitting on one of the extra chairs. She pulled from it a state of the art laptop which she opened and held out her hand for the CD, placing it in the drive. The others gathered around her. “Hopefully this will give us some of our answers,” she noted. She pressed play once the player popped up. They watched as the security camera focused on the dimly-lit room. Suddenly, a window to the left opened and three people, all clad in black appeared, climbing down the boxes expertly with no struggles at all. They looked around. Some words passed between them but the camera had no audio so they couldn’t tell what was said. They moved quickly to the box with the items in it. It had to have been the right one as they popped the lid off and the first guy grabbed the eye, holding it up to examine under a headlamp he was wearing. Suddenly, the door opened and the long stream of light that appeared with it, revealed that someone was standing there. That someone stepped into the room. The room went completely dark as the door shut. Everyone watching the video held their breaths. The lights suddenly flashed on in the room after about a minute; two of the black clad men were lying on the ground but the third was missing. The fourth intruder seemingly tisked. He walked to the box and lifted out the rod and ring, the latter of which was put around his neck. He turned then, smiling menacingly at the camera.
“Stop the video,” Yugi ordered. Isis did. Right on the face of their mysterious man. She looked up to find the expressions of all four of them varied: shocked, angry, frustrated, and betrayed.
“What’s wrong,” she asked. Jounouchi punched the bed. “I can’t believe it! He tricked us!” “He probably was getting close because of the Millennium Puzzle,” Anzu whispered.
“Yeah and we foolishly let him get near it,” growled Honda. The Ishtars looked around concerned.
Isis spoke calmly, “Are you saying you know who this is?” Yugi nodded his head.
“He’s the new kid at school. His name’s Ryou Bakura.”
