Chopper: Love is free!
Luffy: Adventure is free!
Robin: Knowledge is free.
Nami: Everything is free if you take it without paying.
...
Usopp: We’ve been conducting an ongoing study to see what Luffy will and will not eat.
Franky: Grass? Yes!
Usopp: Moss? Yes!!
Franky: Leaves? Ohh, yes!
Usopp: Shoelaces? Strange but true!
Franky: Worms? Sometimes!
Usopp: Rocks? Usually nah.
Franky: Twigs? Usually!
Usopp: Zoro's cooking? Inconclusive!
Chopper: How did you… test this?
Usopp: You just hand him stuff and say ‘eat this’ and if he eats it, he eats it.
Chopper: ... I don’t know how to feel about this.
Nami: IS THAT WHERE ALL MY SHOELACES WENT?
Robin: What about humans? He tried to eat Crocodile once
Everyone: ...
Usopp: I think I might be too afraid to ask
(Someone pls draw this one XD)
...
Betty: In your opinion, what’s the height of stupidity?
Koala: *turning to Sabo* How tall are you?
...

SPOILERS FOR WANO ACT THREE!
I AM SO EXCITED

I want to focus on Hiyori for a moment before I get to the other topic at hand, as her scenes here are also incredibly important. Her getting to finally call out Orochi and scream in his face while crying, but still be presented as a strong and unwavering woman is so cathartic and so beautiful. It’s so important to me that Orochi essentially gets himself killed because of how sleazily he was, burning because of his order to Kanjuro, and getting his head slashed off by Denjiro, the man who essentially raised Hiyori into the woman she is today (even if I’d prefer it was her who did it). It’s a perfect end to his story, and now Hiyori is finally free

And now to the moment I was so excited for, it had already been set up that there’s some mystery to the gum gum fruit, by Who’s Who, the Gorosai and the CP0 agents. Who’s who also mentioned Nika, and it all finally falls into place when Zunesha starts his monologue on Joyboy, who as a reminder was first mentioned back in Fishman Island. It all build hype to the end of the chapter where Luffy seemingly transforms, in a way unlike any of his previous Gears, and next chapter we - the readers - get the full reveal of the truth surrounding the gum gum fruit, or rather the Human Human fruit, model Nika. It’s such a cool reveal and the more you look into previous arcs, the more you realise this was foreshadowed as far back as Skypiea

Kaido didn’t see this tho, as he’s still in the building, until a giant hand pulls him out, with cartoony effects on his eyes to boost, and there’ll be so much more of that soon

Gear 5 was what once again cemented one piece as my favorite series, having this transformation make Luffy a cartoonish force of nature which is so unbelievably silly and strong at the same time, god I adore it. Luffy himself obviously doesn’t know anything about Joyboy or Nika, but it doesn’t matter, as he doesn’t need another identity besides just being Luffy, now ready to finally win with this newfound power. I’m so happy Oda went into this direction, and while I do feel like Wano doesn’t feel to have as much stakes as some other arcs with similar structures during act three, if that means we got to see this reveal I can forgive it. I love this design, I love Luffy’s off the wall powers and GOD do I love the soundtrack that’s used for Drums of Liberation in the anime. I love Gear 5 Luffy

As Kaido is defeated, we get a flashback of him, a show of how he believes in might over everything, but also there’s a scene where he and King talk about Joyboy and how, despite all the evil things he’s done, Kaido believes in the fact that a person like that might exist, and how that will definitely the one to defeat him. It’s clear due to the flashback to when he was younger why Kaido is the way he is currently, especially when you look at his childhood and teen years, but just like so many villains in post time skip you can also tell he didn’t have to turn into this, and deep down there’s that part of him that’s not inherently evil. This is not me defending Kaido by any means, as he did a lot of heinous shit I outlined previously, but in the world of one piece, villains aren’t born, they’re made, and whether that makes them more human or more monstrous is for us to decide

The defeat of Kaido is outlined by the festival in the capitol, where we see Otoko set out her lantern with so many others, in a scene that never fails to make me cry. She knows her father was a hero, and now he will be forever remembered with the defeats of Kaido and Orochi, as we see so many dreams of the citizens of Wano, which finally will have a chance to be granted. It’s a beautiful, touching scene, that stuck with me to this day, truly, a wonderful end to this fight that has been set up way, way back
#one piece#op reading corner#kozuki hiyori#kurozumi orochi#monkey d luffy#gear 5 luffy#kaido one piece#Otoko one piece#and what do you know I almost cried writing that last section#god I love wano#it may have faults but it’s such such a good arc

Heretical take, I know, but Wano arc is really just not doing it for me so far.
#after the absolute bombshell that was Whole Cake Island#I am struggling to get into or care about any of these new characters#I already was kind of getting used to Momonosuke and Kanjuro and Kin’emon#they’re alright#but everyone in Wano has a super long name#and they’re introducing so many of them#like one after the other#and like#all of the Strawhats are doing their own separate thing right now#so there are a million plot lines happening at once#with so much new information that I don’t get why it’s supposed to matter#and a couple of annoying characters in the form of Kaido’s generals and the happy-go-lucky laughing fuckers in that one town#I’m just like#okay#so#when does it get to the part that’s making everyone say this is the best arc#I get that it’s been building up towards Wano forever because of the samurai and Kaido and SMILE and all that#but can it actually start being interesting and cool yet?#I did like the reveal that Momo and Kin’emon and them all had been sent through time#I think that was pretty dope.#But there has been a complete lack of any sort of real ‘story’ in here so far#other than the traditional ‘bad guy takes over and terrorizes innocent people’ plot#I am waiting not so patiently

whose vivre card?
We know from canon that Orochi boasted about his inside man, Kanjuro, and that Kanjuro stated that a vivre card was needed to get to Zou. He also said that Jack’s appearance on Zou was suspicious, and probably occurred due to following a vivre card, but whose?
To be fair, the Minks might not have known who Jack was, but they did know who Raizou was.
I’ll return to the vivre card ownership question soon.
Kanjuro apparently fed Orochi information about the Kozuki clan, and Kanjuro was quite happy to live the life of a Kozuki retainer and was willing to die with his fellow samurai.
(Orochi (above) and Kanjuro (below) mirroring each other’s summation of his role).
Kanjuro also gave Orochi double the money every time he asked Oden for some, and that allowed Orochi to financially join Kaidou.
So did he also give him scraps of other members of the Akazaya Nine’s vivre cards? Namely, Raizo or Inuarashi or Nekomamushi? Because Raizou ended up in Zou because Kanjuro, Kine’mon and Momonosuke—inexperienced sailors—ended up swept apart from him in the waters surrounding Zou, when they set off from Wano, after having been transported into the future.
Or maybe Raizou
had a scrap of Kanjuro’s own vivre card, and Jack followed this. This seems the most likely scenario to me (if cards can be used that way). But there might be other possibilities.
For example, was Zou attacked because Kine’mon, Kanjuro and Momonosuke were spotted leaving Wano after Orochi had received the letter from Kanjuro, and they were followed (see below)?
Or did Kanjuro get word to Orochi about Raizo from Dressrosa through Doflamingo because Doflamingo was on the lookout for Momonosuke (through his contact with Kaidou)? And Kanjuro hadn’t been told to give up his role, so it made sense, I guess that he fulfilled it so well.
Also, having the ability to merge with walls in Dressrosa meant that Kanjuro might’ve also been able to permeate them, or somehow manipulate them? I wonder. The walls do indeed have ears.
Anyway, back to the vivre card. With the second Jack attack, which did seem strange (although Jack had to abort his first mission to try and rescue Doflamingo), following Kanjuro’s vivre card would make sense (but only if Orochi had clued Jack in somewhat, which he might have done, given Jack’s reaction below, Chapter 922). (Hawkins is talking about sending Kaidou to Oden Castle in pursuit of Law and Luffy, and about the legend of the scabbards).
Jack having knowledge of living scabbards (aside from Ashura Doji and Kawamatsu) is also maybe supported by his insistence that Raizou (or a samurai) was on Zou in the first place.
BUT if he had anyone’s vivre cards, separate from Inuarashi and Nekomamushi, why wouldn’t he go straight to them instead of ransacking the land and torturing the populous to force them into handing over Raizou? He never said ninja, as far as I’m aware, which would have been a more specific description, but I think that was Oda protecting the big reveal.
Also, if Orochi had vivre cards of all or some of the members of the Akazaya Nine, why wouldn’t he have attacked Zou earlier? Inuarashi and Nekomamushi were known as part of the Kozuki clan. As Orochi implied when talking to Kaidou, maybe he just didn’t have the manpower until more recently.
Additionally, Jack was surprised that the Mink leaders had survived his attack, and if Chopper and Caesar hadn’t arrived (and the Doflamingo rescue mission hadn’t been undertaken), they probably would’ve died.
Or, is it a plot hole, or am I missing something here? (Probably. It wouldn’t be the first time). And whose vivre card were Kanjuro, Kine’mon and Momonosuke going to follow to Zou if they hadn’t run into Law (who has/had Bepo’s vivre card)?
Raizou’s, I’d guess. But, considering the actual death of Oden and Toki was a matter of months prior for them (due to time travel), maybe they also had vivre cards of the Minks.
Anyway, the fact that Law remembered he had Bepo’s vivre card until the one moment when he didn’t is even more important given the journey these four embarked upon (Raizou, Kin’emon, Kanjuro and Momonosuke).

Perhaps I just should have looked at the Wiki. It says:
Jack received a Vivre Card from Kurozumi Kanjuro that allowed him to reach Zou, which would not have been possible otherwise. It is unknown whose life this Card is linked to.
Could be that the Whale Tree has a special force that repels people following vivre cards (if it was Raizou’s), considering it’s a sacred spot and all. OR, it brings us back to Nekomamushi and Inuarashi, and Orochi being either too weak to eliminate them before, or not seeing them as a threat (also, how did they escape back to Zou? The were captured, I think. Maybe their cards were taken then, or part of the cards, or...). Maybe Raizou is a traitor too, but that would be too much.
Heh.
(Also, imagining Orochi looking at one or nine or less vivre cards over twenty years for damage or disappearance. Kawamatsu’s burns some. They never managed to get Denjiro’s. For Wano to work, he probably wouldn’t have O-Kiku’s either. He might not be able to identify any of them directly to their owners, just that they belong to the samurai. But then, bang. One day when he puts one on the palm of his hand, hoping it won’t lead him anywhere, it starts to move.

Chapter 1008 — Ashura Doji
I was right and I’m both happy about it (woooo, more shenanigans! How will they manage?) and a bit sad (you evil villains should stay down). It’ll be interesting to see where Oda goes from here.
Of course - Fake Oden

I wonder if it’s Ashura’s decades apart from the rest that lets him see the truth first? Of the ones who were left in the past, he’s the only one with a bit of perspective (for the ones flung into the future, Oden’s death is a terribly recent event).

Denjiro spent a lot of time near both Orochi and Hiyori, keeping both hatred and love burning inside, while Kawamatsu first spent time with Hiyuori before getting thrown in prison alone. Ashura, on the other hand, has spent time with a lot of other people and he’s seen them die for Oden before. He had time and space to accept Oden’s death that none of the others have, which might have enabled him here to see the illusion before the others.
And YAAAAAS, EVIL SNAKE-DRAGON-CREEP IS ALIVE! TOLD YA!
Burn, baby, burn.

Can’t wait to see how he’ll end. Hiyori? Momo? Someone else?
I’d also like to know how he survived. You have to chop off all his heads? Something to do with the head ninja dude in the background? Was he just a drawing Kanjuro made beforehand?
And of course, a nice little teaser for the upcoming fight.

Nice to see Kaido look so full of anticipation! Luffy’s certainly rising in his esteem!
Although..

[insert definition of insanity here]
That’s not how things work, Rubber Boy..

One Piece Chapter 991 - Initial Thoughts
It’s about damn time, in two ways now too Because it is 9:50pm here in the UK I have been waiting near 14 hours for this goddamn translation XD And granted, it’s gonna be a little bit iffy but let’s get to it!
Spoilers for Chapter 991, Support the Official Release
Happy feels for Pound getting to embrace his daughters, but alarming title translation
Right where we left off, Drake has made the request in front of the Straw Hats and Pay-Pay
Drake you dare doubt Coby on his Luffy gushing!?
Many though are untrusting; mainly Zoro (whose head wound has healed up) who goes for Drake, I feel like it is telling that they brought up Hawkins again, did Hawkins ever say that he was on Kaido’s side?
Despite Zoro, Franky and even ‘team up with Capone Bege’ Jimbei saying No, Luffy’s gonna be Luffy XD He’s validating Coby even when he doesn’t know it. Though we can easily see why the crew would suspect
But now, like Law, Drake will be subjected to the ‘Eternal Headache’
But Pay-Pay and Ulti are now at the scene, eyes back on Luffy again as they waste the grunt soldiers with their DF
Sanji I know Ulti’s cute but focus, can’t be simping right now!
Usopp has the idea, straight for the Bombgrass
Then completely framing Nami for it XD It’s been too long since we’ve had this dynamic. And of course it’s ‘talk big but run’, Usopp and Nami vs Ulti and Pay-Pay would be an interesting matchup
There’s Apoo! Very much disappeared there didn’t he? But he’s back and...ineffective because he’s scouted. Lucky that Luffy did have wherewithal to remember that from Killer (who with Kid and team Law are also very missing)
Interesting that Apoo’s bounty didn’t go up at all since Volume 68, still 350M
The Numbers do get their blushes a little spared though, Hatcha seems to be stronger than the other 3, we’ve only met half of the Numbers still and Franky used a lot of the tank just to land that major blow, also I am a fan of the ‘hit a mofo with another mofo’ trope, I dig that energy
But a Drunk Hatcha is advantageous to us, he’s too simple to fight and just wants to play with Franky’s Shogun armor
Meanwhile, we’re back to shitting on Apoo as Drake and Zoro have a gentlemanly conversation with bladed weapons
But now comes Queen, PACKING HEAT with the Gatling! Now Queen poses a danger: high ground and seemingly sea prism bullet gatling? That is dangerous...though why use Samurai to reel? He didn’t have a DF...Maybe it’s a poison bullet instead?
Zoro being blunt as hell too ‘another weird guy is after you’ XD no sympathy
Ooosh, Jack got thumped didn’t he? But Kaido’s gone and stepped in
Seems that Kaido is the only one of the higher ups that actually rates Jack XD But we’ve got contradiction here, we’ve often been told that Kaido doesn’t care about his men, so why does he call them his ‘precious men’?
At Last, Su Long Inu and Neko, and it does not disappoint. Even with the Fu Manchu
Looks like the grunt fights were pretty even, the Number got taken down but the Minks are out of it now, both sides will need to recuperate and I feel like Jack may recover quicker...
YAS! I KNEW IT! Kin’emon can cut Kaido’s Dragonfire! Hell Yeah, but also Big Death Flag since that is someone Kaido would want to negate
The Samurai fully intend to make it their last stand, and well...could you guys not? I kinda like you guys and we literally just got Izo back and who else is gonna wear Kiku’s armor? So yeah, don’t die guys or Tsuru will be mad
Though I didn’t appreciate waiting, it was worth the wait, I’m still shaking a little with the tension. We’re slowly getting to the main fights here; Usopp and Nami taking Ulti and Pay-Pay seems to be their first step, Drake and Zoro look like they’re about to have an ultimate buddy adventure with Apoo just...there, Franky is gonna take on Hatcha, which leaves Robin, Jimbei, Brook, Sanji, Chopper and Luffy still to do their tower climb, not to mention Carrot, Team Law, Team Kid, Team Shinobu, Team Hyou and his Yakuza and Team MarcoPero to deal with Hawkins(?), Who’s Who, Killer Queen, Sasaki, Big Mom, Black Maria, King, MegaForehead and the Oniwabanshu, Hotei and his Mimawarigumi and perhaps more (including 5 more Numbers). And there’s still the question mark on Orochi, Caribou, Kanjuro, Tama, Speed(?), the shadowy figure in the bushes and Hiyori factors to wonder about. Chopper, Carrot, Robin and Brook were all absent this time (compared to the usual absentees), I wonder if the plot will move to them next chapter, I could actually see Chopper wanting to fight Queen IF he is using poison bullets, just full on unleash Monster Point - this is a stage for it. But yeah, exciting developments, 9 more to go and it looks like no break! But be wary, I’ve been doing the math on these things: the earliest Chapter 1000 can come is late November sure, but do you know what else lies on a Friday? Christmas Day...and New Year’s Day It would be kinda poetic for Oda to do Chapter 1000 on one of these days, but then again, Oda could ruin our days depending on what OP1K provides...for now just keep our fingers crossed and hope next week we don’t have to wait so long

One Piece Chapter 920 Review
Gather around, fans. It’s time for a story about the Wano Country; a country that was once beloved for all and currently beloved for scums. After the shocking revelation of Kin’emon and others, it’s most fitting to clear out some of the past history’s mysteries. While it won’t answer all, in fact leaving some questions behind, this chapter evaluated the value of recovering the country to its former glory with the rising hype for a potential warfare.
If you are fond of the series’ rich world-building, then this chapter is for you. Throughout, it’s about the origin of Oden, Kin’emon and others’ backstory before time-warping to the present, and connections with many present characters. Oden Castle was actually called Kuri Castle; already presenting Oden as a caring and lovable man. Putting his people first above all. Although he was beloved, he was considered as a wild card as he went through violent fights and essentially exiled from the Flower Capital.
The country wasn’t completely paradise as there was once a lawless area, which is self-explanatory with criminals and such. The real shocker about it is that place was Kuri; in other words, it was once an awful place. Even Shogun back then didn’t want to touch it. That’s where Oden reappeared and took on Ashura Douji. I’m very aware of the reference to Japanese culture. No, there won’t be any reincarnation…for now. Anyway, he was so evil and powerful, and yet Oden defeated him. That’s where the paradise feel was born.
I should mention that Oden was the son of Shogun Kouzuki Sukiyaki. While Shogun failed to act upon Kuri’s problems, Oden took on the challenge and won. For an exile, he sure was capable to be a Shogun. To top it all off, he forced the criminals to become workers and created a paradise for the citizens. Eventually, his father heard the story and bestowed him the title of Daimyo of Kuri at the age of 20. That’s pretty impressive. The one fond quote Kin’emon would always remember from him is “It’s too cramped here.” To me, that tells me Oden was indeed a nice fellow.
The story gets a short break with Zoro, who is of course lost. The funny thing about him is he believes his friends are the one that are lost. He believe it because he rode on that Komainu. Why Luffy and Zoro’s logic are going bonkers lately? Oh well, they do make me laugh. I don’t know what will happen to him, but I get the feeling he will drag trouble along with him. What else is new?
Duke Inuarashi makes his return. I do like him, so I was happy to see him again. I do wonder on who will break the news about Pedro’s demise. It’s going to suck when it happens. Outside of the prediction, it’s rather touching when he is at the beach, recollecting the good memories he has with his first meeting with Oden. It’s already said that he and Nekomamushi have fond connection with the Samurai, so this was heartwarming to know where it began.
I really like the silent storytelling treatment while pointing out Oden and his establishments. He was so beloved by many, including Whitebeard and Gol D. Roger. The part that makes it heartwarming is how there’s no speech bubbles coming from Kin’emon and others, but their reactions are delightful. You can see how great Oden was just by watching their expressions. It will make you laugh, it will have you in awed, and it will make you feel happy. Sadly, it will make you feel sad and frustrated.
It’s a smooth move of Oda to skip the story for us fans and let only Strawhats hear about the turning event. It keeps us engaged with the story, leaving us wondering why Oden had to die the way it did. It appears to me that Orochi was probably a friend of Oden, only to backstab him in the end. I can only guess based on Nami’s reaction. It’s a smart move in writing perspective to keep us interested in Orochi. After the early soothing atmosphere, it’s sad to see Kin’emon and others from the past to breakdown into tears. His saddening words about Oden’s final moment was emotional; words about 20 years ago, only it happened a few months ago for them felt heavy.
Kin’emon and others’ last action before time-warp is tragic and questionable. I feel bad for them for running towards to the castle, only to find it already in fire, thanks to Kaido. That’s one tie-in to hate Kaido. It’s rather sad that they had to “ignore” Inuarashi and Nekomamushi when they were caught by Orochi’s subordinates. I don’t blame them for their minds most likely were running wild with fear and sorrow.
Then we enter the questionable part of the story but in a good way. Lady Toki, the wife of Oden, was with Hiyori and Momo inside the burning castle. The story does confirm that she was the one with the ability to go to the future, but cannot go back to the past. The interesting part is she came from the distant past; at least according to the rumor. This has a good potential to expand the lore with some of her recollections that could associate with Gol D. Roger, D. Family, or even beyond. Don’t forget how Law is part of D. and that didn’t cross my mind at all, so you never know when we get a visual flashback.
It was at that point that Kin’emon made a final pledge with her that no matter how far into the future he and others will go, they will do whatever it takes to fulfill Oden’s wish. She gave them Momo to take care of and the time-warp took them 20 years later. What about Hiyori? Was she dead already? Can Toki foresee the future of when the time of Orochi and Kaido’s reign end? Was choosing 20 years a random time-warp destination or was it “destiny?” Shame that she couldn’t warp time with them, but perhaps she was hurt or can’t do it on herself anymore.
It’s rather frightening to instantly warp to the future and witness the same country under new lifestyle. It’s equivalent to a prisoner, who was imprisoned for 20 years, now able to roam back to the city, only life has advanced far ahead of him, and that can turn his head off. In here, they felt that they have no chance to fulfill Oden’s wish for everything seems paradise for the rotten and hell for the poor. Their mind changed when they met few people that had been waiting for their return.
Judging by that guy’s words, it appears that Toki may in fact can see the future or at least set the time destination. 20 years is pretty specific. That said does that mean it’s guaranteed that this present time is where the Wano Country will “reborn?” The only problem is at what cost. Hope was slowly rising back in their heart, but then they all split apart under unlucky circumstances.
Raizou was separated during the chase from the country. That’s when they were told to meet back at Zou. Then due to bad navigation and landed on Dressrosa, out of all places, Kanjuro was separated. Lastly, the rest landed on Punk Hazard and were taken by Caesar. The story of the rising sun began when Luffy meets Kin’emon. That’s one touching story. It’s amazing how it feels like one big saga, starring with Punk Hazard Arc. It’s like one massive build-up for this arc, including Whole Cake Island Arc, if we were to believe Big Mom and Kaido joined forces. What a journey.
Now we have the backstory out of the way, it’s time to increase the hype level for the next action phase. Kin’emon enters the war plan phase, which already has me pumping up. He names all the forces they currently have: Straw Hat Crew, The Musketeers and The Guardians of the Mink Tribe, Heart Pirates (Law), and the Rebels. The idea is to have 5000 strong to match up. Oh, that has “calling for Luffy’s fleet” written all over it. Damn, this is hype. Sure, starting a war is not an idea, but you damn sure know it’s going to happen. Okay, I am jumping ahead.
Anyway, the idea now is to wait for two weeks. Their intention is to gather information and take the Commander’s head. Damn, that’s hardcore, but necessary. In two weeks, they will commence the raid on Onigashima, where Kaido resides. Holy crap, what!? Translation: our main hype begins in two weeks; the series’ timeline, not ours (sadly). Oda knows when and we can only starve until he feeds it to us. After the backstory and the gathering names of troops, I couldn’t be any more excited.
Overall, this was a compelling and interesting chapter from top to bottom. I really enjoyed the backstory, even with some skipped moments, but it only got me more curious and interested. I’m glad Toki’s Devil Fruit ability can only make her travel to the future, which spares from fans from the headache, let alone Oda himself. The hype level continue to escalate higher with the two-week plan that will be massive. Once again, One Piece is taking a break. The future is killing me.
Oh, and the chapter’s cover is hilarious.

Some screaming and my attempt to put thoughts into words
One Piece Episode 1037 spoilers
KINE’MONNNNN!!!!!!!! ;;;;;;; AFTER ALL HE’S BEEN THROUGH HE DIDN’T DESERVE THIS
BUT OKAY SO, Oda has definitely done a few permanent deaths at this point, or at least ones I’m assuming are safe to call permanent deaths, but MY GOD?!!? Kine’mon getting stabbed through by Kaido HURT. In my honest opinion it hurt much more than Pedro’s death, but that’s probably just my own bias in characters talking. Definitely more devastating than Ashura’s death which I have... my own problems with. That one felt a little too forced and I think got rid of the weight of Kiku and Kanjuro’s fight. idk it just felt out of place. And too similar to Pedro’s death. Assuming Ashura is dead, which that one very well may be a fake out death. I just have a problem with Oda undoing the really good story beats in the plot for the sake of trying to add more drama, but imo it ends up taking away how meaningful it is.
THAT SAID. THAT WASN’T THE CASE WITH KINE’MON’S LAST STAND AGAINST KAIDO HERE. The desperation in this man to stand between Kaido and Momo. The fact that not only could he barely stand and his attempted last attack was more or less just him falling into Kaido, but that the sword was BROKEN too. Them rubbing salt in the wound and actually having well placed flashbacks for once and reminding us how to Kinemon and Momo they practically had become father and son after Oden’s death.
Kine’mon dying here WRECKS ME, and having him being one of the (so far) few characters to actually die this arc hurts me personally because I’d grown to really love Kine’mon ;;;; He was dumb and ridiculous, but he was so full of love and loyalty, he just wanted to lead his people and his country to freedom so that they could be happy and that Wano could be beautiful again. BUT! I am going to be mad if this is one of the many of Oda’s fake out deaths. This one hurt to watch, but that’s a good thing! Kinemon dying after getting up over and over and over again, after standing up so many times despite coughing up blood and being a crumpled mess on the ground. It’s TRAGIC. I love Kinemon to bits, but this felt like a scene that has to stick. I mean, he had a sword driven THROUGH HIM while he’s already in an awful state, the sword was just left WEDGING HIM INTO THE GROUND, and Momo was dragged away screaming and crying for him. It felt like the end for him. I don’t want Oda to go ‘LOOK! HE LIVES’
I do think the inconsistency with what is lethal in One Piece is one of the few things that’s bothered me going through the series. I just think that if strong ass people don’t live from a regular string of explosives, but Pell can survive the explosion that would’ve been big enough to wipe the entire center of a town, an old man can survive being struck by lightning, and not one of the other samurai died from the barrage of attacks Kaido wailed upon them previously, I want Kine’mon to stay dead after that final piercing blow practically staples him to the ground or for the moment not to happen at all tbh. I’m tired of fake out deaths.
That said. I’m really going to miss him if that is it for his character ;;;;
I was so indifferent and ‘eh’ about him when he was introduced in Punk Hazard. I could give or take him in Dressrosa (though to be fair, I was so focused on other characters that arc gjskldfgj), but he really REALLY grew on me in Wano. And it makes sense! Because Wano is important to him and he had an important role to take up in Wano!

Fragile Heart
The Heart Pirates, including a healthy and whole Bepo - the Straw Hats, recently rejoined with their Captain and remaining crew members - headed back to the Samurai stronghold, where Zoro and Kanjuro were waiting for them.
Law and Tori had come to learn from the Mink Tribe Doctor - a small goat mink named Miyagi - that Bepo’s condition was caused by something he called Sulong. A primal, feral form which lay dormant that would manifest and magnify the inherent fighting abilities they held. It was something that all minks possessed inside them - triggered by gazing into the full moon - usually under the supervision of an elder who was charged with training younger minks to control the dangers that came along with it. Using the form for too long would cause severe exhaustion, or even death. Miyagi surmised that Bepo had activated the form by accident, and luckily inactivated it when he fell unconscious. Bepo was fortunate to only have suffered a severe case of fatigue from the event. With a little time and a few herbs native to Zou - along with a list of things he should ‘do and do-not’ - Bepo was back on his feet, good as new.
Tori should have been in the Galley - celebrating with the rest of the crew - not laying alone in the dark. She should have been happy - relieved that Bepo was alright - that he had made a full recovery. That the Straw Hats she befriended were reunited with their crew. That everyone would return to Wano, safe and sound. There was much that she had to be happy about, yet she was not.
She lay flat on her stomach - on the bunk she claimed in the women’s quarters on the Polar Tang - her chin resting on her hands. She felt distressed, the events of the argument she had with Law on Zou replayed over and over in her head - it saddened her that they had still not reached a resolution - she certainly wanted to, but her pride would not allow her to initiate a discussion with him. She would wait for him to come to her - to hash out their issues rationally - to apologize for the wrong they both committed while under the pressure of the situation. Until the time came - when he decided he was ready - she resolved to only speak to him when it was required.
She began to wonder when the conversation would take place. If it would take place. If Law had given up on her, and decided she was no longer worth the trouble. Tears welled in her eyes as she forced the thoughts from her mind - her hands grasped the pillow that lay beside her, and pulled it into her chest - she curled herself around it, and surrendered to all the emotions she felt. Pain. Anger. Sadness. Frustration. Fear. Hot tears flowed down her face. The sobs that escaped her - muffled by the pillow that was pressed to her face - continued until she had become exhausted, and eventually fell asleep.
“Oi. Ninja girl.” The sound of Zoro’s voice, frustrated and thick from sleep - along with a hard jab to the ribs - roused her from her slumber. Tori rolled over, and rubbed her eyes - red-ringed, her eyelids swollen - she was not ready to be awake, and she certainly was not ready to deal with Zoro just yet. She glared at him grumpily, “What the hell? What do you want?” Zoro placed the sheathed sword that he used to poked her with against his shoulder, his eyebrows scrunched together. He could not help but notice that something was not right with her. “You look like shit. Are you sick or something? Do I need to go get Law?”
Tori frowned and sighed heavily, and closed her eyes - she rolled over in the bunk and turned her back to him - she was not sick, but she certainly was not okay. Law was the problem, not the answer this time. The issue was not something she felt like she could - or would - discuss with Zoro. “If you are here to get me to train, I don’t feel up to it today.”
Ordinarily, Zoro would let it go - walk away to go train on his own if she did not want to come - it was not like he needed her to be there. Not this time. She seemed to be a little more uptight than she normally was when he mentioned Law. It made him wonder why. He sat down on the bunk beside her and crossed his arms over his chest, “I’m not leaving until you get your ass up, ninja girl.” Tori sat up abruptly and spun around to face him, furious. “I said that I do not fucking feel like it, okay?”
It was not uncommon for Tori to yell at Zoro, but she had never spoken to him in that way before. Zoro grit his teeth - not because he was angry - but because he suspected he knew precisely why she lashed out at him. Why she had been hypersensitive when he mentioned Law. He just needed to be sure - and if he was right - he was going kick Law’s skinny ass.
“Did that creepy asshole do something to you?”

Tagged by @ask-the-fringeheads
Rules: 1. Post the rules 2. Answer questions by person that tagged you. 3. Write 11 questions of your own. 4. Tag 11 people
Questions (for me):
1) Favorite One piece character? I can’t choose between Zoro or Sanji ahhh. I’ll just say Zoro :x I’ll admit I’m kinda directionally challenged like him xD BUT I DON’T TURN LEFT WHEN I’M SUPPOSE TO GO RIGHT. I know my left and rights.
2) what other Fandoms are you into? I wouldn’t say I’m in the fandoms but I love watching Rick and Morty, Steven Universe, and Gravity Falls.
3) Are you an early bird or night owl? Night owl for sure. I post all my stuff at around 3 AM most of the time. xD I have a problem because I use to sleep from 8 AM to 2 PM but those are school hours so I’m always Sleepy in classes. ://
4) How happy do you get when you see a new Ask/submission/reply/comment? Really happy! I love seeing notifications because it reassures me that I’m doing alright. ;v; Though when someone replies I kinda freak out because I don’t know what to say back. I overthink it then end up not replying and I feel bad!! ToT
5) favorite hobby? Drawing. I would say animating but that takes too long and I’m not a patient person. I tried to get into other stuff like knitting, crocheting, weaving, and crafting but nothing stuck with me so I just have a bunch of unfinished projects laying around my room.
6) if you could meet any anime character, who would it be? The only anime I watch is One Piece :x First character that comes to mind is Sanji of course. xD Ok no it was Zoro BUT I don’t know what to say to him sooo Sanji it is.
7) What is your dream job? To be an animator! Not sure if I’ll be successful at it though.
8) Zoro and Mihawk are pretty hot amaright? Hotter than the sun.
9) If you could have any devil fruit, what would want it to be? Kanjuro’s devil fruit seems pretty interesting. It’d be awesome to see my drawings come to life. ovo
10) dogs or cats? Dogs! My friend has been trying to get me to become a cat person and even brought me to Catcon but I still like dogs better.
11) which of the fringeheads is your fave 😉 Oh geez don’t make me choose xD Ahh I’ll have to go withhhh Pierce.
Soo I’m too afraid to tag anyone xD I’m a very shy person. Like I worry that the questions I come up with wouldn’t be interesting or fun to answer or maybe I’m bothering the person for tagging them?? Ahh I’m sorry ;n; Though I’m not bothered by it! I saw this 11 question thing going around and I thought it’d be fun to answer some questions as myself so thank you for tagging me!

One Piece Chapter 977 - Initial Thoughts
So we the party is going to start but according to the title ‘not now’
Spoilers for Chapter 977 below, Support the Official Release
Starting with the Cover Story, Lola and Chiffon have their reunion, and we thought that’d be the only family reunion today
They say ‘the 10 are finally together’ but does that include Carrot? She is embracing Jimbei too after all and no other non-SH is there...
I’m still on the fence about Jimbei’s legitimacy, carrying the wounded away from Big Mom and escaping unscathed? We have to be mindful, if we see him jump into water at least we can rule out Brulee. Also I really need to know if Reiju is okay because that woman is my Baeju, come on ‘Jimbei’ SPILL!
That’s also a super serious encounter with him and Franky
Zoro’s haki is so strong that he can sense alcohol nearby XD
Shishillian jumping right in to know the plan, it’s a bit odd thinking that he’ll lead the minks instead of Inu, Neko’s still missing as well. Hyou leading the samurai freed makes a little more sense given his history
Denjiro still oblivious to Kin’emon’s luck, noting how Kanjuro knows the initial flank plan
It’s sensible to plan with Law though, he knows that Luffy and Kid won’t follow and will attack head on, but this also leaves them as bait
But then there’s the Super Flank! Law using his Room to bypass the side whirlpools is a solid plan, but the Scabbards who are prime targets are risking a bottleneck by going around the mountain
Yeah like there was any threat that the Sunny was blown up, so what if there’s a garrison? Zoro senses Alcohol and Luffy wants to party, there’s no stopping that
Nami, Usopp and Chopper stay on the ship to ‘conserve energy’ I’m sure, this is where the earlier wonder on whether Carrot is nakama gets more confusing, she greets Jimbei but she doesn’t get a fight panel
Zoro’s a happy boy having his booze, the first front line is done and there’s now more weapons for the allies
But it is a little worrisome that the SHs praises are being sang this early, this is only level 1 of the raid
Luffy delaying the banquet because he knows that parties in One Piece happen after an Arc ends
Killer’s back with his mask as Kid prepares to continue the rivalry with Luffy as they fight for Kaido’s head, if Jimbei is legit this should be no contest in a ship race. I also think that Kid’s crew are copying Killer’s laugh to make him feel at ease and if so that is kinda sweet
Our final pages show Kaido and Orochi feasting; Kaido’s already drunk, we got another shadowed beast while Big Mom is getting dressed. I do hope that Courtesan is just there for dramatic purposes and not actually present, because that could mean that Hiyori is already there...
Tell me that’s not a translation miss though...MY SON!? Kaido’s son is here...is this gonna confirm theories that Katakuri and his brothers are Kaido’s? Is there another character we’ve already met that’s actually Kaido’s kid?
The Flying Six are coming too, Kaido’s sending them to BM first though. We already know that Drake and Page One are part of this group, and you can tell Drake from his boots, Page One is probably one of the shaded people at the back and the woman looks like she has Galette’s coat, we should also be wary of the swordsman and the fancy dressed person at the front, something tells me that next week we’ll instantly recognize these people...
So the raid has officially started and...yeah reason to be worried. Luffy and co are already riding high and planning the post-victory party. I wouldn’t say they’re underestimating the challenge but they are treating it like a certainty. The threat of the Flying Six as well as Kaido’s son, Kanjuro, Apoo, the Numbers, the disasters, Big Mom’s subordinates and sweet commanders, we all know this isn’t gonna go swimmingly.

One Piece Chapter 975 - Initial Thoughts
With the whirlwind of 974 the story gets to now show off what it has teased Spoilers for Chapter 975 of course
Small thing to begin with, I don’t always mention the cover story but Gotti saving Lola and her taking a shine to him is hilariously ironic
We at least explain what happened to Shinobu here, she was incapacitated by Kanjuro and his ink snakes (because Orochi), not sure why she can’t just ‘ripen’ them though? Paint fades
Seems the Sunny just shrugged off the bombs, makes sense because of its makeup but still they were caved in, could’ve seen a bit of that, fixing the sails is a decent reason for a delay though
We get to see the Straw Hats’ raid outfits and, I’m mixed. Of course, everyone looks well designed but I kinda wish Luffy and Brook kept some of their samurai garb, at least the Kozuki puffy trousers for Luffy. Robin looks a bit like Izo and Zoro didn’t change at all. Not sure what the gloves are about though with Brook and Sanji, looking all CP9 about it all (though I will admit I do like Brook looking more like his OG look and we all know Sanji’s got the raid suit waiting)
Also more minks are there, specifically Carrot back on frame with the crew, all the threat of her being traitor can now be put to bed, let her sail with the crew! Shishllan and the Zebra musketeer is there too, Wanda and another Mink far in the background
These goons though are idiots XD They gave away every trick they may have up their sleeve to the enemy, especially that Big Mom as allied with Kaido, Law not a happy bunny about it
But here comes the 3 Captains, Older, Stronger, but still bickering the same way. Law with the savagery as well ‘you’re only good at losing’ he says to the guy who beat Doflamingo when he couldn’t, also dude you got beaten by one of Hawkins’ grunts with the seastone nail you can’t preach that much
Found it odd that Luffy went gear four for it though, I mean it’s just a grunt battleship...especially with what happens next
Because Kyoshiro struts in and fucking Mihawk’s one of them on his own, I know Denjiro is strong (and Zoro does too) but it did make it feel like the 3 captains overexerted themselves
And it couldn’t be helped, so he revealed himself, thank god that awful hair is gone, now just the matter of those sideburns
He also freed all the prisoners, so that’s an extra 1000, but now that Kaido’s forces know they’re about to contact Onigashima, could be time for Caribou to disrupt the frequencies again, if that’s how it works
But then Denjiro continues to praise Kin’emon, stating that he fed his allies believably false info on Yasu’s message, not a Tokage (Lizard) but that the lines were to ‘cut the snake’s belly’ so leaving ‘Habu Minato’ to ‘Hato’ which is a forest filled with Yasu’s maple trees, meaning that they had already crossed the necessary networks to arrive
But, as with One Piece hilarity, this was all just dumb luck. Kin’emon and Denjiro read the message two different ways but it’s worked out splendidly
So it would be difficult to try and top 974 in excitement, so Oda never tried to, he instead let us soak in the moment; 3 captains acting as they were 12 years ago, allies not failing them and the Denjiro public reveal. It is funny that Kin’emon misread the message (the lines never looked like a Lizard to me) but I think it leads to an interesting scenario for him, people praise him for this rebellion now so maybe Kin’emon’s journey is to become the Shogun of Wano? I know some want Hiyori to be it but we never actually see her lead, the only people who followed her did so because they wanted basically to fuck her as ‘Komurasaki’ or because she is of Oden’s bloodline, but Kin’emon does seem to have a good character journey, the rude, broke delinquent rose to responsibility as a loyal and powerful man, a diligent protector and for the most part a proper leader, the ideals that made people see Oden as the future shogun lie in Kin’emon also. But, let’s not get ahead of ourselves, 5,200 is still not enough against a Kaido who knows they’re coming, let alone the combined might of Kaido and Big Mom. Plans will need to be changed and shit will still hit the fan, but it’ll be glorious shit-hitting all the same. Let’s also not forget that there are other factors in play; Drake, Hawkins, Apoo, whatever the ‘Golden Kaguya’ is, the ‘weird dolls’ Brook found near the Poneglyph, actually getting the Poneglyph without BM’s forces knowing, King, Queen, Nekomamushi, the potential arrival of WB’s remnant forces, Hiyori, Onimaru, finding a potential cure for SMILE, the potential of Big Mom turning on Kaido and many more.
Only down I can really give this chapter is that there’s another week break, which of course is never fun, but it’ll only serve to build the hype more.

Take Care Of My Heart
Tori woke to the smell of freshly brewed coffee, the rich aroma beseeching her to open her eyes - she smiled and stretched, turning over to see Law standing near the small kitchenette that sat adjacent her quarters. His hair was messier than usual, clad only in the briefs that he had taken to sleeping in recently - his bare foot tapped against the floor, as if in time with the beat of an unheard song. She had to consciously tear her eyes away from the image of him, to focus on his task and not his well-built frame - the way the garment clung to his backside, waistband sitting just below his hips - it further accentuated the usual appeal of his musculature.
She watched closely as he meticulously ran through the steps to prepare just enough coffee for two, his measurements and movements were always precise - the device he preferred to use looked like something that was more suited for scientific purposes, but the flavor that it produced was heavenly. His lips pulled into a smirk, he could feel her observing him. “Good morning. Enjoying the show?” Tori smiled, “Mmm hmm.” She slid out from underneath the blankets and pad barefoot to stand behind him - she wrapped her arms around his waist, planting a kiss in the middle of his back. “You spoil me.”
Law chuckled and picked up the mugs full of the steaming hot coffee, turning around slowly to face her - he leaned down and kissed her forehead before handing her a cup. “It’s just coffee, Tori.” She took the mug that was offered to her, looking him up and down. “I wasn’t referring to the coffee - dearest Doctor.” The smirk that Law wore intensified, “Duly noted. At some point, we will both need to get dressed though.” Tori puffed her cheeks out in a pout, “Do we have to?” Law wrapped his free hand around her waist, “We can’t go to see your sensei like this.”
Tori’s eyes shot open in surprise, with all that happened - with the mission, the party, and afterward - it had slipped her mind that they would be going to see the sensei. “That’s right! We’re leaving today.” Her brows furrowed as she started to think about all that she would need to do, before she would feel comfortable leaving. Law raised an eyebrow, unsure as to why she seemed concerned. “There a reason to wait?” Tori considered the question for a moment - she was certainly excited to go, but she planned to actually help the crew clean up after the party - she could not ask them to do it alone. “I can’t see any reason to delay the trip, but I should do more than just make sure that everything is squared away after the party.“ She raised up on her toes, to pull her face closer to his - a playful smirk on her lips. “Wasn’t that the stipulation we needed to agree to in order to have it? That everyone pitches in?” Law grinned wickedly, smacking Tori smartly on her backside. “I guess you getter get moving then, little ninja. The sooner you are done, the sooner we can leave.”
To Tori’s surprise, the entire crew was already up and skittering about when she stepped though the hatch of her ship - cheeks still pink from the way that Law chose to get her mobile. She could not shake the way that it had made her feel, nor did she understand how something so simple could leave her so - stimulated. It was a real struggle for her to leave him, to get dressed and walk away given her state of excitement - further inflamed by his state of undress or the incessant teasing, when he took notice of the effect it had on her. She would have plenty of time - to find a way to return the favor later - but for now, there was work to do. She took a deep breath and squared her shoulders, reigning in her thoughts - she could not go out and meet the crew looking like she did.
“Oi! Baka ninja!” Zoro waved as he called to Tori, “Don’t think you are getting out of training today, just because we had a party.” Tori crossed her arms over her chest, sassily leaning on one hip. She opened her mouth to speak when she heard Law’s voice. “You’re right about that - she won’t be training today, because we have somewhere to be.” Zoro frowned, “Tch. Where the hell do you think you’re going now?” Law smirked at Zoro, “I would tell you that it’s none of your damned business but, I am going to need you to keep these fools in line while I am gone. We are heading out to take care of some business for Tori - we will be doing some surveillance while we are there.” Zoro crossed his arms over his chest, his good eye bounced between Law and Tori suspiciously. “Okay, fine - but - what business you got that is so important, ninja girl? Is it more important than training?”
Tori raised an eyebrow, a grin on her face - she cocked her head to the side. “How did you put it, Law? That it’s none of his damned business?” The smirk on Law’s face grew - he pat Zoro on the shoulder as he walked past him, toward the Polar Tang. “Guess that is that, Zoro-ya. I’ll go tell the crew you’re in charge.” Zoro spun around on his heel, “Oi! Wait a minute, ya bastard! How long am I going to have to do your damn job?” Law did not turn around, he held up three fingers in the air - a pleased smirk on his face. “Three days - give or take.” Tori could not help but to laugh at Zoro - his fists balled up at his sides, face and ears reddened by frustration.
Zoro spun around and pointed his finger at Tori, his voice was raised to match his irritation level. “When you get back, training twice a day for a week!” Tori stepped forward slowly, taking his hand in both of hers - she pat the top of his hand gently. “Okay, okay.” She smiled at him, her expression showing her gratitude for all he did for her. “Thank you, O-niisan. I appreciate your teachings - I’ll make it up for sure.” Tori put her hand around Zoro’s shoulder, leading him toward the rest of the crew. “Now - let’s get this work done, shall we?” Zoro stood up straight and poked out his chest, he could not help but to feel a little bit of pride at her words, or the honorific - even if it made him slightly uncomfortable that she was actually being nice to him. “I’m still going to kick your ass.” Tori chuckled, “Yeah. I know.”
It did not take long at all for the crew to finish up the cleanup efforts - everyone worked together well, making quick work of the task - they even seemed to be enjoying themselves while doing it. The crew seemed to take the news that Zoro was being left in charge in Law’s absence well, although there was the usual grumbling about him being away - the crew was also not happy about Tori being gone. They all followed Law and Tori to the spot at the edge of the cavern where Law would use his Room to teleport himself, Tori, and Kanjuro outside - to say their goodbyes. It had taken quite a bit of convincing on Tori’s part to get Law to agree to allow Kanjuro to use his ability to create a way for them to travel more efficiently - he only agreed under the stipulation that he would be the one to decide what it would be this time.
Bepo handed Tori a small bag filled with cookies and hugged her tightly, nuzzling his cheek against hers. “I’ll miss you.” Tori pat Bepo on the back, chuckling. “Aw, Bepo. I will miss you too. We will be back soon though, I promise.” The simple gesture said much - she knew that part of it was just in his nature, but there was part of him that genuinely cared for her - as did the others. She could feel the care and the concern they felt for her - matching the feelings that she carried for them as well. She grabbed Bepo by the shoulders, pulling him away from her so she could look at his face. She smiled brightly, “Take care of everyone, okay?” Law put his hand on Tori’s shoulder, “Time to go.” He looked over to Bepo, “You heard her - take care of everyone.” Bepo snapped to attention, “Aye Captain!”
