Dear music Lights, I’ve gone through a transformation with my music since tour in July. Long story short, I used to make music that wanted to be sold. I’m not doing that anymore. From now on I’m making music that doesn’t care about being sold. It will only care about loving. I don’t know when I’m going to release new songs but trust that I will. Right now I’m training my Voice a lot, learning how to play a wooden flute, bettering my violin and guitar skills and investing in some other live instruments. Superwoman explanation: The idea behind the song: My little sister @delphineallegralazar is really beautiful and intelligent and creative and charismatic and goofy and unique and fierce etc etc. All her life she's had basic bitches (girls, moms, boys etc) come for her like she's a big issue. Well I had enough of the bullshit and decided to write Superwoman for her so that whenever she was being bullied, she could turn on the song and be reminded of who she is. 💪🏻🌟👠❤️ The artistic/musical/linguistic inspiration: Superwoman is fundamentally an homage to RuPaul and utilizes a lot of the lingo that I learned through watching RuPaul's Drag Race. It's also inspired by Lady Gaga. Cover concept: I wanted to paint an image that was completely inspired by Delphine's face and that expressed the immense power and straight up badassery that she is. My photo team @shanelopesphoto and @nikki_popkow did their amazing work and then I printed out her face, cut and glued it onto a canvas and turned it into a painting. I don't know Ben from PWR BTTM very well nor was I sexually assaulted by him. The allegations of his bullying and behavior in general, however, really struck a nerve with me due to one experience specifically while we were both at Bard College. I don't support bullying or rallying up against someone to tear them down. I do however believe in people being accountable for the irresponsible behavior they conduct themselves with. It was subtle mostly because I didn't allow myself to give it much thought, but while at Bard whenever Ben was around me he would somehow make me feel ashamed or small or belittled by him. I talked to some people about it but no one really took it seriously. Well, now it's finally being taken seriously and I hope this serves as a wake up call to everyone in the queer community who is intentionally making others feel ashamed of who they are. Our community can't afford our own members to be destructive to others. We already have so much shit against us, it's not worth it. Don't be an asshole, don't be mean, don't diminish others because of something that's going on inside of you. Throughout my entire life I've been utilizing made up words to express myself whether that be through art, music or just chatting with my siblings. A few years ago I began the life long process of developing my own language called Luociengwa. I feature it sometimes on my social media so you've probably heard some of it already! Sometimes when I'm sleepy and listen to recordings of me singing in Luociengwa, I realize that I can understand what the words mean. I think the ultimate goal of this language is to be a sonic library that combines essences of all the languages in the world, creating a unified world language that is based on the origin of what language is; desire, expression, intuition, community etc. So far, Luociengwa has sounded most like the languages I've naturally resonated with most. As time passes however, it has become increasingly more unique. I love this process of development because it turns Luociengwa into an archive of my own personal development and maturity as a human being. I don't think this language will be complete until I am an old man.
