Just got back from the first day of the Brisbane Lifeline Bookfest and managed to score a pretty good haul this year! It was crazy busy inside though, I think the busiest I've ever seen it. The line in the high quality section was so long it wound through the rows of books. Worth it though, definitely going back later in the week too!

Every year here in Brisbane we have the Lifeline Bookfest. It's a 10 day second-hand book sale that raises money for Lifeline, which is a free 24/7 crisis support phoneline. The bookfest is huge and I only had a few minutes to rummage through the books so my haul is rather modest this time around. Still I managed to score a biography of St Francis of Assisi, yet another book on the Gospel of Judas (yes I am dragon like in my hoarding of books on Gnostic texts), a Ken Wilber Reader, and a copy of Selected Writings on the Purification of the Soul by Saeed Hawwa (in Arabic). A mere AU$24 for the lot. I'm not a big Ken Wilber fan but I may want to dip into it at some point, I don't read Arabic but I hope to learn one day, the Gospel of Judas book and the Francis of Assisi biography will be good though.

"boss, I put up the sign you wanted. hey, I had a thought, should we install paper towels for those people with sensitive hearing and sensory limits?"
"what? no, fuck em. paper towels cost money."

My ratio of reading vs acquiring new books has definitely been leaning towards one side (getting books) over the other during the last five months but in my defence in that time it has been my birthday, Christmas, and lifeline bookfest was on lol šŸ“š
I am so excited to read all of these though!! I just keep looking at the spines on my tbr and anticipate picking them all up, I think I'll definitely feel disappointed if I finish 2025 without having read all of them šŸ˜…
Thanks to my family though for the gifts and giftcards cause without them I definitely wouldn't have all these right now šŸ™Œ
So many exciting new releases, and also books I've been wanting to pick up for years at this point, I just had to share āœØ
So far, I've read Emily Wilde's Compendium of Lost Tales (not pictured) and I've started A Botanical Daughter so progress is being made, just a bit slowly! šŸŒæ

This morning The Husband and I adventured down to the Farmers Markets, like we do every Saturday, and after fuelling ourselves with cinnamon scrolls and coffee we took on the Bookfair.
Bookfair (or Bookfest if you are originally from Queensland and are confused like we were) is basically a room filled wall to wall with pre-loved books. They are organised by category and such as well. These are the three I got that relate/are semi-related to my studies.
Here Comes Everybody by Clay Shirky
Gender by R.W Connell
Social Work in the Shadow of the Law by Simon Rice & Andrew Day
I have used Connellā€™s work so many times in my papers so I am glad to finally own a copy of some of her work that I have used way too many times to count. If you are interested in Gender studies you should definitely read some of her work and see what you think. Happy Saturday lovelies ā˜¼ā€

Fairs, Crawls & Hauls | Bookfest | Aliceā€™s Haul
Haunted by Chuck PalahniukĀ --Ā gotta love Chuckā€™s work, this is a selection of short stories found in the YA section at Bookfest (which was great considering the Parental Advisory sticker).
Blossoms and Shadows by Lian Hearn -- a stand-alone (how rare) historical novel based in Feudal Japan much like her other books.
A Crucible of Souls by Mitchell Hogan -- Book one in a fantasy series. Who knows, I bought it because of the ships on the cover.
The Girl in 6E by A.R. Torre -- A suspense, thriller. Came home to be told ā€œYouā€™re gonna be scarred for life.ā€ Canā€™t wait!Ā
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller -- Greek history? Hell yeah!Ā Itā€™s been on my to-read-list for a while now.

The three sections of the 2017 Brisbane lifeline bookfest ($1, $2.50, and High Quality), before people come in and mess it all up. Millions of used books for sale and it all goes towards Lifeline crisis support and suicide prevention.Ā

Its that time of year again! The Lifeline Bookfest is back!
Me and mum were there at opening on Saturday (as per usual). I was there looking for particular editions of Agatha Christie books and unfortunately only found one of them but I ended up buying about 10 things lmao, I'll do a bit of a haul soon!
For now heres a few snaps I took in the line before doors opened and then some from inside. Did a double take when i saw that red book in the second last photo. I swear it says Goncharov!
The bookfest is only on for four days this time around so if you're in Brissie and have a chance to go it's running until June 20 at the Convention Centre in South Bank

The Lifeline Bookfest was on not that long ago, and I went to get some cool, cheap books.
Every time I go they have literal bins full of Twilight books.
