I've spent the past two weeks working with seabirds... but there are other ancient creatures that inhabit the Poor Knights, like this big old tuatara. They live in burrows alongside the shearwaters and prions, emerging during the day to bask in the sun. Some iPhone shots of my attempt up Medicine Bow Peak. It seemed like a perfect storm for me to make it only 350 feet from the summit. It’s incredibly hard to start a hike with a destination in mind, and to not reach it. It’s also hard to listen to you a body and what it is telling you when you want something so bad. It feels like failure, but the thing is, it’s not. Take a look at this picture again and youll notice 2 predators in the same frame. Leave a comment if you did notice it. This was my top moment from my last trip to Masai Mara in November. Late evening shot and hence the bad lighting. We had followed a leopard and we knew a kill was on as the beests made their move to cross the Talek River, the leopard had made its kill swiftly. The leopard moved the kill a bit and wildebeests continued to cross the river and out of no where a lioness came charging at the leopard, leopard fled and the lioness went on hunt a wildebeest. She had 3 subadult cubs and was a part of a large pride. The lioness had to go back and bring the leopards kill after she had given her cubs the kill she had. Had witnessed 2 kills in less than 10 mins.
