LIFE SERIES LORE ⭐️ (CREATED BY ME)

-Updated version.

What if the "mystical beings" controlling the life series follows the three wise monkeys in reverse? So instead of "seeing no evil" they see ALL evil.

The Three Wise Monkeys represent a principle of moral conduct, embodying the concepts of "See no evil, Hear no evil, Speak no evil." A fourth wise monkey, "Do no evil," was added to emphasize the importance of actively avoiding harmful actions. (This concept originated from Confucius beliefs). Since "Do no evil" was added later on, they are lesser known. This is why many mystical beings regard them as a myth. They are the "supreme rulers" and the true power that Martyn has to face if he truly wants to put an end to the games.

See no evil = Watchers (Mizarus)

Hear no evil = Listeners (Kikazarus)

Speak no evil = Chanters (Iwazarus)

Do no evil = Creators (Shizarus)

Watchers - enjoy the show because all they see is the amusement of suffering.

Listeners - try to stop the show because all they hear are the cries of suffering.

Chanters - They "speak" the game into action, their words determine and establish the rules and setting for each life game. When a Chanter says what the game will contain, it's written down in the "rule book" and it becomes reality for the players.

Now who actually has the power to create this reality? "Do no evil" (Shizarus). They are the only ones with the ability to use the powers stored in their hands.

Each "monkey" (mystical being) covers the only sense they're allowed to use, so watchers can only see, they don't possess the ability to hear, speak, taste, etc. Their powers are forever bound to granting them the ability to see. This is true with every other mystical being except Shizarus.

The hands of Shizarus (do no evil) are not bound to anything, thus they can use their powers freely to manipulate the games. Shizarus posses all senses, yet are rarely seen, and never interfere with the games.

Because Watchers, Chanters, and Listeners are only allowed one sense, they achieve joy through feeding/absorbing the negative emotions released from the games. These "negative emotions" are the "evil" that their ability grants them to see/watch/speak. With this logic, Shizarus don't need to absorb "evil" in order to achieve amusement because they have all their senses. So why do they create the games? 👀

Grian is an anomaly among these beings. He is supposed to be a watcher, but has found a way to imitate other senses at the expense of his own. For example, his eyes are still functional but have turned into black voids (Grian has said his eyes are voids/holes in one of his videos) as they spend all their time giving power to his other senses. His ability to posses all senses allows him to empathize with humans. Though this does not make him a Creator/Shizaru. His powers are highly limited which is why he is extremely human-like. Though he seemed to have more Creator/Chanter-like powers during wildlife as he knew what the wildcards would be....what could that possibly mean? 🤔

If Reigen met the 'manga version' of Serizawa...

In Reigen Arataka’s defence, it hadn’t been his intention to throw his tea at the second boss of Spirits & Such consultations, seances… shiatsu massages… et cetera, et cetera. The pulling back of his shoulder and hurling of the thimble glass in keen trajectory of the human figure had been very much intentional—the hand-eye coordination voluntarily initiated, Reigen admits. But it was the sudden, disturbing appearance of the figure… combined with Reigen’s practised years of striking anything resembling a threat first, that compelled his attack. Not because the thing resembled his colleague, Serizawa Katsuya (in conclusion, please don’t contact Work Health & Safety about this). Nonetheless, the offence is ineffective as the crystal cup now shoots right through the human figure, disintegrating like sand on the floor tiles. No one’s hurt.

“Courteous way to greet your work partner,” Dimple snorts as witness to the workplace incident.

“That’s not actually him, right? Right?” Reigen gawks, sweat crawling behind his neck. “It looks… looks like that curse we expelled from the pop culture store three weeks ago!”

Dimple doesn’t disagree. The man standing before them on the CEO’s office floor doesn’t quite look like a man… more likely drawn by an artistically unstylish mangaka who reduced himself to a mouse and pre-installed paint program. It’s 2-dimensional, a caricature of black, squiggly lines on what could’ve been printed on white photocopier paper to become a life-size standee (Reigen’s nearly convinced it’s a cardboard standee until it ripples as Dimple phases through it). Reigen walks around to examine its other dimensions but it’s like the glitching figure rotates with him—a tiny JPEG file stretched tall, perpetually facing him… only him.

An exceptionally cursed image, indeed.

🔓 NEW AREA UNLOCKED!!! 🔓

This very important Luminous Planet Reveal comes courtesy of Jade’s third music page. Finally she’s able to play the advanced eclectic bass, and I gotta say that building a five-armed robot just to play better bass solos is real dedication.

Jade’s [S] bass pages (p.822, p.1026) are perfectly scripted around the music, with moments like the zoom in to Jade’s hand on the keyboard synced up with changes in the melody. I have learned a little more about how the music works – there’s a semi-official ‘MSPA Soundtrack Team’ who make music that might be good for the comic, and Hussie grabs tracks from the pool (sometimes even in-progress tracks, for example ‘Upward Movement’ on p.665) any time they want to work on a [S] update. I guess this makes sense as so little is planned in advance and the turnaround time is so short even on Flash pages – once one is happening, there’s no time for music to be written specially if Hussie wants to keep the current pace.

The slow zoom in this flash is SO cool. We pause for a moment on the full view of Jade’s dream room, and it seems like that’s the ending, but then there’s another zoom out to her tower, another to the golden moon, another to the full luminous planet (and its name!!!!) and ANOTHER zoom out to Prospit orbiting Skaia, with beats between each pan outwards. Jade is already so small on page 1029 and she’s only just outside the tower. So the zoom gives a real sense that these kids are part of something infinitely bigger than them.

The luminous planet is named Prospit, which likely comes from ‘prosper’, meaning to succeed or flourish. Most Homestuck words are mashups of two existing words, which is how they all sound so real, but this place doesn’t look like much of a pit. The ‘-pit’ suffix could come from a few different places, including ‘incipit’ (links to the Incipisphere, means the opening of a text or piece of music), ‘pulpit’ (elevated platform for preaching a religious service), or ‘cockpit’ (the place from which an aeroplane or racing car is piloted). It probably isn’t ‘cesspit’, ‘armpit’ or ‘decrepit’, unless we’re about to learn that life on Prospit is actually terrible. Or unless it’s related to Prospit’s destiny to lose – once it prospered, but it will be left decrepit.

On Prospit, the WARDROBIFIER has different settings! I know that Star-Heart-Horseshoe is a Problem Sleuth reference, so could just be an easter egg, but I wonder if there are other minor yet relevant distinctions between Jade’s waking and dreaming rooms.

On page 1029 it’s very clear that Jade’s tower (clean and in focus) has been drawn by an artist, while the rest of the moon looks like various overlapping jpegs of intricate medieval castles. This has a couple effects. It makes Jade seem very important – her tower is also one of the two biggest on the moon – and it makes the whole planet look procedurally generated. Sburb is a game all about building, so of course its local planets would be covered in buildings and structures. Build grist becomes light gray when used to create a simple platform (p.262) so there could be ‘luminous grist’ and ‘ominous grist’ which create golden and purple structures, respectively, and which Prospit and its counterpart are programmed to use via some script that uses the grist to auto-iterate on castle designs, making similar yet slightly different structures over and over.

For Prospit and its counterpart, it seems like colors outside the white-gold and black-purple pairs can only arise from prototyping. The ’golden city’ (p.1028) makes me think of the Emerald City from the Wizard of Oz, the movie of which was released 40 years to the day before Hussie was born. In that story, the city is not actually made of emeralds, it only looks that way through glasses. I don’t think Jade’s glasses are doing this, but I wonder if the gleaming gold is illusory in some way. The limited palette also reflects the video game nature of Sburb, where older games were very limited by how many colors they could include.

Tabbing back and forth very fast between pages 1029 and 1030, Jade’s two houses are identical besides the color, and probably also generated by Skaia just like the frog statue and bunkers. I wonder if Jade’s house being created by Skaia could give her an advantage playing Sburb. I also wonder if this is how Jade, who doesn’t have any Sburb beta discs, will end up in the game �� she is the hacker Rose predicted (p.510), not the trolls. If she is already crossing the boundary into the Medium in her dreams, then a disc, or even the whole apple tutorial level, don’t feel necessary. She’s already there, she just needs her house to become controllable via someone’s computer – and possibly link her two houses, so that when one is built up, the other auto-builds, too.

Of course now that we’ve seen Prospit, I had to go back and reconsider the previous lore. WV describes the cosmology from the perspective of Skaia, as being orbited by Prospit and its moon (p.702). The battlefield at the center of Skaia (p.423) is the only physical structure we’ve seen there, and at the time it’s only inhabited by two kings. After prototyping, armies from both planets begin to arrive. WV and PM may be among them – WV due to how he perceives his location, and PM due to their beautiful sword and skill using it.

The original chessboard has five black squares, and four white ones. While this doesn’t give black a game advantage – it is an ‘eternal stalemate’ as Nannasprite says (p.423) – it does give a visual advantage that points towards the forces of darkness’ destined loss. Sburb is a game about building, the battlefield auto-increases when John enters the Medium, and John is currently practicing the skill of dealing with swarms of enemies while still alchemizing and building. I think that John and Rose will eventually have to build the battleground – the forces of light can’t win in a direct assault on a flat board, but via alchemy and building structures, John can create tools and advantages that will lead them to victory.

On page 1031 we can see a couple of Prospit’s residents, one visibly wearing a jester hat, the other what looks more like a wizard’s hat. But they are so tiny. Jade can potentially interact with them, which would explain the Peregrine Mendicant’s question ‘Don’t I know you?’ (p.900) and why Jade ‘seems familiar’ to them (p.898). The lightning that destroys PM’s bunker (also p.900) is I think Bec’s powers, not Jade’s – it’s the same lightning he crackles with on page 980, and now that we know how protective he is of her – taking Jade to bed and sitting on top of her bedroom while she sleeps – I think he might react that way if she was upset due to strange voices in her head.

Well I know that the game has had code for fully customizable AI since before its unofficial release, and a dedicated slot for where the “Customs” would come from when the game needs a pointer for spawning said AI, but the flag for it was automatically disabled.

Or, you know, it was supposed to be. The code and the magic that HL:CE runs on is some janky shit, and things like having a certain brand of headset or having a controller with exactly 43% battery life can flip on and off random triggers. We’ve only RECENTLY, thanks to the whole “AI Became Real” situation, been able to 100% percent confirm that the mere act of having a Security Guard as an AI Companion in Version 1.0.0 was unchecking one of the boxes that disables Anti-Cheat.

So I can 100% believe that the game found like, a drawing on the computer of that particular streamer (bc for some reason the game can accept JPEGs as “character models”) and turned that into an AI. As long as that user has been maintaining updates for the game, I don’t think they’re in any danger.

When I don't know what to draw I just dress up characters I like in random outfits they might conceivably wear and then draw a bunch of them. I put little flower accessories on all three because it seemed like the right thing to do. Also the fact that I dress like this half the time irl means I could put together several good hypothetical Dandy closet cosplay looks but unfortunately I do not have a hat so it'd feel off. (The other half the time I'm wearing sweaters that are very Dee Klatt-core. This is just how I categorize my life now lmao)

Okay I lied when I said getting it done before classes started was doable because I'm not done yet. In fact I'm nowhere near done. All I really have to do is copy and paste everything from Google docs into VSCode but it turns out that going line by line through 300-ish pages of documents is not a fast process. (Also I have to make the style sheet but I am deliberately not thinking about that right now.)

I feel an obligation to get something out quickly but I have homework now and I'm a commuter student so between reading/writing and calculus and traveling to and from campus I don't have as much time for this project as I used to. Of course I'm still working on it though, just without any sort of expected date of completion.

On the note of styling I hate figuring out floats and padding and whatnot so much. The thought of going back several decades and just putting everything in a bunch of invisible tables is so tempting. I'm not going to because it feels like cheating but it is tempting. Occasionally I run into older websites that use tables but layout-wise they look fine. Aesthetically it's a whole different story though lmao. I mean I like the Web 1.0 aesthetic but it's definitely.. out there. Ugly repeating jpeg backgrounds and numerous random gifs my beloved. Me when I am scrolling through my favorite websites trilobites.info and prehistoric-wildlife.com. (That second one is from 2011 and at that point it was a conscious choice to look like that.. I respect it.)

Current fic: God, too many to count. 😰 But I am super duper looking forward to the conclusion of @eomma-jpeg's absolutely phenomenal Trigun fic, In the Meadow! :D (Last chapter comes out TOMORROW, I'M SO EXCITED!!!)

Also really wanna read @noaafishfieldguide's Trigun mermaid!AU fic, omg. Really need to get to that someday? As well as like a hundred other assorted Trigun fics, omg. XD

Currently watching: Uh... Well, I binged a whole bunch of really sad history videos about terrible things that happened last night. Does that count? 😅 Nah, but for reals, the only show I'm watching rn is the Rurouni Kenshin reboot? Haha, it's just that and rewatching Trigun and TriStamp over and over when I'm not on YouTube. XD

Next on my watchlist: FUCKIN CASTLEVANIA NOCTURNE, BOIS!!!!!!!! HOLY SHIT, I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THAT SHOW?!?!?!?! There are also a handful of movies I'm interested in, too, if I ever get around to them, omg. And, y'know... TriStamp season 2, whenever that will be, omg.

Current obsession: I'm sure y'all might have picked up on this by now, but I have fallen hard back into Trigun, omgggggggg. It's actually ridiculous how much this has no taken over my life. 😫 But besides that, my love of Genshin Impact has been rekindled with the update, so I'm like back on board with that, too? To a lesser degree, I'm also lowkey obsessing over FFXVI because that game was amazing and it seems like no one's talking about it for some reason, omg. And also hyped about whatever new pieces of FFVII Remake info is trickling down. Oh, and CASTLEVANIA NOCTURE OF COURSE, OHOHOHOHOHOHO! And, last but not least, there is always my lingering love of DBH there in my periphery. Ah, I will never fully leave that one I think. XD

Cat Update

So I've basically been off tumblr since 2018, maybe? Here's the cat update:

in the summer of 2022, a stray cat showed up at our house a couple of times

she then showed up with 4 kittens, about 5 weeks old

it was the week before the bonkers heatwave, and i don't think they'd have survived if she hadn't got them to us

thus began several months of having 8 cats in the house!! (Sully, Mikey, Pixel, new mum + 4 kittens)

we intended to keep the mum bc she was young, probably always a stray, and we wanted her to have a nice life

we named her Edie

Edie wasn't feral but she was jumpy, fighting, aggressive to other cats, scared of people

raised her kids well though and was cool about us being around them and handling them

we did not plan to keep any kittens

we adopted out 3 kittens to friends (JPEG/Peggy, Link and Astrid)

we kept a kitten (Merrill) too

so we're at 5 cats now

at one point Edie was doing so poorly as part of a multi-cat household we were considering rehoming her

but she improved! she is still not cat-friendly but she is extreme sweet and affectionate with people now

we also found out she is almost entirely deaf

Spring 2023 - we lost Mikey and Sully within 3 weeks of each other. They were 19 and lived long, loved lives

a few months later Pixel died very suddenly after we found out he had a very aggressive cancer

the hat-trick we never wanted

Merill missed the boys something terrible

So a couple months back we got a kitten called Jeane to be her playmate!
