Actually, a thought. Are goons classified as contractors or full time employees? Do they sign a W2 or a 1099? How do they file their taxes?

Okay so this purely applies to the odyssey. Not epic but the way odysseus's crew is so so stupid like actually the worstest people to be stuck on a boat with. Just the the most incompetent crew ever. So what if they were on odysseus's boat because they needed his personal supervision.

Pacifica sat on the workbench, not looking at the older man in front of her as she clutched her injured hand to her chest. Fiddleford was silent, an imitating aura around him as he searched for the first aid kit. The blonde bit her lip, too nervous to try and break the silence. Only a few minutes ago they were having a nice time. They were chatting and even joking a bit as they worked on the robot that Fidds wanted to bring to life. And then it all went straight to hell. And it was all Pacifica's fault.
She hadn't been paying attention, too busy enjoying the rare moment of genuine fun. When she'd placed her palm on a hot metal plate. The world exploded in pain and she'd let out a pained yelp, and in doing so dropping an important piece needed for Fiddleford's robot. Breaking it in the process. Pacifica had never felt her heart drop so quickly, and despite her damaged hand had tried to pick it up. To fix her mistake only for the older man to beat her to it. Pacifica had never seen Fiddleford move as fast as he did in that moment, his hands already under her arms as he picked her up and pulled her away from the project. Before setting her down onto the workbench, his face taunt and full of an emotion that made the girl immediately nervous. And now here they were, in the present moment with Fidds not saying anything and Paz staring at her injured hand.
Why couldn't she just do something for once without ruining it in the process?
That piece had been important. A piece that they'd found at the junkyard together. The old inventor had been thrilled about the find, chatting excitedly about all the possibilities it could be used to make their project even better. And she'd ruined it. Had messed up badly, just like always.
'He's never going to want to be around you again. You ruined it.'
The thought was harsh and cruel and to her mortician she felt her throat get tight. Her hand throbbing angrily in pain to add to the tight lump building.
'He's angry at you. I bet he's already thinking of a way to tell you to scram and never come back. Some Northwest you turned out to be, no wonder mom and dad don't want you around.'
She felt her hands tremble, eyes burning at the thought of having to say goodbye. Of once again being alone.
'Disgraceful, can't even keep yourself together.'
Pacifica felt herself spiraling, unaware that she'd lost the fight of keeping her tears in. Silently crying as she tried to figure out how to fix this. On how to convince Fiddleford to give her another chance. Fiddleford meanwhile finally found the thing he was looking for, and turned to start fixing his apprentice's hand. Only to feel his stomach drop at the sight of Pacifica Northwest in tears. Fatherly instinct took the wheel as he set down the first aid kit and kneeled down to her level. Eyes full of concern for the child in front of him.
"Paz, hon does it hurt? Are you okay? Can I please see your hand-"
The man said, voice soft and full of worry as he went to reach for her hand only to stop when he heard it. A tiny, tear filled voice.
"I'm so sorry Mr. Mcgucket, I didn't mean to break it! Please, forgive me I know you don't have any reason to believe me but please don't...don't say goodbye. I....I don't want to say goodbye. I can fix it I swear-"
Paz rambled. Calling him by his last name in her begging, almost as if she was afraid she wasn't allowed to call him Fidds anymore. So unlike the confident sweet girl he'd come to know, apologies falling from her like rain from the sky. Fidds sat there, eyes widening in a horrified realization and an anger building in his chest.
'Oh, when I get my hands on that awful excuse of a father, I'm gonna-'
The thought filled his head, vicious and so unlike Fiddleford. But he pushed it down. He'd worry about that later, right now he had a more important matter to attend to. With a gentle hand, Fidds gripped Paz's chin, firmly but tenderly making her look at him.
"Pacifica Northwest. I want to make something very clear and I want you to listen well."
He said voice soft but full of authority. The teen sniffled but gave him her full attention.
"I don't care about the part. It can be replaced. A project can be replaced. But you can not. You are what I care about, and you will always be the most important thing to me. No robot or project will ever be more important than you. Do you understand little lady?"
The older man asked, staring at her with a serious expression. Fiddleford watched as she stared at him, her eyes full of disbelief before they filled with more tears. With a trembling lip Pacifica nodded, a hiccuped sob escaping. Fidds didn't bring it up, instead letting her go to grab the first aid kit.
"Now may I please see your hand, honey? I gotta make sure that you're not in need of more medical attention."
Fidds asked waiting for her to give him her injured hand. With another sniffle and a small curse towards herself, she showed him her hand. The injury wasn't good, but to Fidds' relief, it wasn't too badly injured that they'd need to go to the emergency room. With a practiced ease that came from decades of dealing with similar injuries himself. Fiddleford cleaned up and bandaged Pacifica's hand, making sure she had plenty of medicine on her wound before doing so. Making a mental note to possibly get her a pair of better work gloves for the future. Once she was cleaned up, Fidds stood up, his knees and back cracking due to being in one position for so long. However he didn't mind, he'd do it all over again if it meant making sure his little shadow was okay.
"I think we've done enough for the day wouldn't you say so Paz? A long work day calls for a nice drink. How does hot cocoa sound to you?"
The inventor asked patiently waiting for her to respond. After a few shaky breathes, the rich girl finally responded.
"I guess hot cocoa is nice. If you insist on having it anyways...."
Fiddleford smiled, relief and fondness filling his chest. Pacifica would be okay, she was one hell of a stubborn girl. And if she wasn't, he'd be right there to help her back up again. Walking back towards the manor, neither spoke about Pacifica's tears, nor their conversation. An understanding now between them. One that would be there for the rest of their lives.
The understanding that they'd be okay.
