"I love betrayal <3" is not even a joke. Ana-Dimitri loves a lil scheme against her, the more dramatic the better. The Genestealer plot was her favourite until it turned out to be, well, Genestealers. Bit out of her league, those guys. (Nyarlathotep as a game show host: "Ah yes, the Tyranids. We all want to, and maybe we can, but perhaps the true question isn't whether we can but whether we should, and whether any remnant of our unique and individual mind will survive to tell the tale. Anyway, yeah, every plot against her has been wholly endorsed by her. The various lower-deck uprisings are banal and almost routine but they do pass the time rather nicely. Kunrad's a bit annoying about it, but she's looking forward to seeing how it all turns out. She's hoping to get to stab him back with his own Chaos knife. Just for fun, you understand. She expected the Werserian situation to be much more boring than it turned out to be -- those stuffy nobility types do tend to lack creativity. But Regina Sauerback does not lack creativity! And to think she was macking on us the entire time she was betraying us! What a delight 🥰

I think I'm finally loosening myself from the all encompassing grip of ffxiv for a bit so I'm trying to decide if:

I go and finish Cal's Deadfire game, because she's almost, almost finished.

Pick up Layla's game of WotR (Demon run), because I'm starting to have thoughts about her again.

Keep grinding away achievement hunting in Sun Haven, because I've been playing it with my brother again and it's fun.

my copies of the liveship traders books arrived and oh boy i forgot they were all like 800 pages long. possibly this explains my memory of reading the 500 page rain wild chronicles books 6 or 7 years ago and going "wow these feel kinda short compared to robin hobb's other books"

sometimes you don't control where the hyperfixation goes, sometimes you just don't exist for three days and then you wake up and discover that what you liked when you were thirteen slaps just as hard now as it does then

Not gonna lie girlies, but this was a little bit of a disappointment. The first 4 books in this series were all five stars, so it’s safe to say I was expecting big things from this.

The most accurate and fair thing I can say is that this was S L O O O O W. I expected that a little bit as some parts of Royal Assassin were the same, but I genuinely feel that The Mad Ship took 500 pages to get going… and by the time it did, I found myself just wanting it to end so I could pick something else up. Not a great place to be at the end of a novel, really.

The character development was very good though, as Hobb is well known for. The characters of Malta and Althea for instance went through some pretty big changes in this story which I really appreciated. I am looking forward to seeing what happens to them in the final instalment of the Liveship Traders but I do think it’ll be a few weeks before I pick it up!

our city in minecraft is becoming something really beautiful, every house is designed intentionally and the buildings are all large and not just 4 blocks of standing space, everything has its own pallette, agh I'm so happy
