My latest RotE obsession: I finally re-read the Liveship Traders after 10+ years.
Design choices and mild series spoilers below the cut!
I had fun making this one! Particularly with playing with family resemblances that are mentioned in the book, like Wintrow looking a lot like Althea. I chose to make them both look like Ronica, but to also give Keffria Ronica's black eyes - and Wintrow Keffria's worried brows. I also wanted Althea to look a lot like her father - she's the only one with his nose and almost exact colouring.
Selden and Reyn were harder to draw - both have basically no description other than Reyn's eyes glowing through his veil, and Selden starting to scale after meeting Tintaglia, so I made Selden look most like his father in colouring, but more like his mother in the eyes and nose. Reyn I just decided to have fun with and ignored Grag describing him as "able to walk among Bingtowners unremarked" and instead went nuts with the sort of scaling he probably has in the Rainwild quartet later on.
Brashen Trell accidentally came out looking an awful lot like a friend of mine, but I like it.
Malta, my beloathed, my beloved, was one of the hardest to draw; I wanted her to look young, but also overly made up and dressed more maturely than her years. I also wanted to give her some of her father's colouring - since he favours her most of his children - but also her mother's nose and those Vestrit brows, since she's so much Ronica's granddaughter/heir by the end of the series.

The first day of the summer holidays as a teacher means only one thing: a trip to my local library to see what books I can add to the summer TBR. It would be rude to not make use of the cafe facilities too, right?
Hoping to spend an hour or so here to read through more of The Mad Ship, although I must admit it has not been my favourite so far. The first 500 or so pages felt very expositional and I’m not sure the pay off has been worth it so far. I have about 200 pages left to go and I really can feel my eyes start to skim as I get closer to the end.
Let’s hope it picks up soon, but I definitely think a break is in order before I pick up Ship of Destiny…

Discover where you are now, and go on from there, making the best of things. Accept your life, and you might survive it. If you hold back from it, insisting this is not your life, not where you are meant to be, life will pass you by. You may not die from such foolishness, but you might as well be dead for all the good your life will do you or anyone else.

Everytime I see a man in any of Robin Hobbs books I think: "He can't actually be that bad right?"
And then he turns out to not only be that bad, but worse. And worse. And worse. And worse.

just when i thought things were getting to a point where i could at least be entertained enough to finish The Mad Ship with less difficulty than the last one...
at this point i'm just kinda disgusted. at least in the Farseer Trilogy when awful things happened it feels like they happened for a reason. some of the decisions made in this book are approaching torture porn. just awful traumatic shit for the sake of it.
genuinely what was going on in Robin Hobb's head when she was writing this? i was going to try to read more today but now i feel sick to my stomach.

JOMP Challenge | July 1st | Current Read
After binging the Farseer Trilogy in May/June, I jumped straight into Ship of Magic at the end of June and managed to read it in just under two weeks - not bad at all! So, for the start of July I am very much getting into The Mad Ship by Robin Hobb and so far SO GOOD.

To touch something, skin to surface, can tell one so much. A shared touch, skin to skin, can speak the words our mouths are not free to say.
