ADHD is not: inattention, hyperactivity, impulsivity, and mood instability. ADHD does not impair cognitive ability. These are *distress symptoms* that occur in ADHD neurotypes.
(This is parallel to the idea that Autism is not: meltdowns, self-harm, and anti-social behaviors. These are distress symptoms that occur in Autistic neurotypes.)
ADHD is: neural hyperconnectivity, monotropism, holotropic sensory gating, a neuroceptive need for novelty and variety, an interest-driven dopamine system, and varying processing styles (both bottom-up and top-down processing).
These innate traits of ADHD are still being compiled from the ADHD community, so there may be a few more traits that need to be added to the list in the future, but this list is a good start at describing what the ADHD neurotype is before or without trauma, or what the ADHD genes code for as a heritable phenotype.
ADHD involves an abundance of attention, not a deficit of attention. It is extremely hard to direct the attention of an ADHDer based on external expectations, but we easily hyperfocus on our own interests or more voluntary activities.
This is because our dopamine systems are interest-driven: our brains release dopamine only for things we are genuinely interested in, not for required school or work activities. For externally required things, we tend to run on adrenaline instead. (And if we reach burnout, our brains may stop releasing dopamine for things we are interested in.)
The ADHD neurotype is genetic and involves differences in brain structure. If the environment was absolutely perfect, with no trauma or overwhelm, an ADHD person would still be born with the ADHD neurotype.
ADHD people need supportive environments that consider the needs of their neurotype (such as more movement and more stimulation) and that provide opportunities for ADHD brains to operate from their strengths without shame and invalidation for not meeting cultural expectations. These supports can include ADHD medication and a variety of other tools that may help an ADHDer to navigate society.
ADHD is a disability, not because ADHD is inherently a deficit or inability, but because ADHD neurotypes are not supported or enabled in our culture. People with ADHD neurotypes need extensive help navigating a world constructed by neurotypical culture. In an ideal world, that help would be normalized so much that ADHD wouldn’t seem like a disability anymore.
Being ADHD in a world designed for neurotypicals is extremely challenging and sometimes causes a lot of suffering. It’s often painful to live in this world with the ADHD neurotype. Blaming our own brains amplifies this suffering. Naming the source of our suffering shows us a path to relief: we need neurodivergent communities, we need neurotype friendly environments, we need liberation from systemic ableism. Working towards these collective solutions is what the neurodiversity movement is all about.

so ya wanna know about autism: masterpost
I give this google doc link out to individuals a lot, and realized it might be useful for a lot of people if i shared it more widely. It’s a masterpost of a whole bunch of Autistic Stuff -- here’s the link to the actual doc, but i’ll also post it all here on tumblr (under a readmore after the table of contents).
(edit: if the hyperlinks aren’t working for you, here’s the google doc url that you can copy and paste into an internet browser to access everything: https://docs.google.com/document/d/16BqhRv4IlZ6KcElGAEZOx8sFYwRs4W1jF-ddY_XKYnE/edit?usp=sharing )
Please spread it around (including sharing the google doc link outside of tumblr wherever you want). Feel free to comment with more resources, tumblr posts, articles, etc. that you find helpful! And if any links are broken, let me know.
It can be a major challenge for adult autistic folks to find content for us and by us, because so much “official” content is 1) ableist and harmful and 2) geared towards parents of autistic children. So I’ve compiled just about every resource I’ve got that discusses autism by and for #actuallyautistic folks.

Self Diagnosed Autism Journal Entry 7:
I’ve been taking a break from typing everything out. I crashed pretty hard trying to collect as much information as I could in a couple weeks - compiling prints and quizzes about autism… I crashed hard.
Nothing about discovering you have Autism is easy. 3 1/2 weeks ago I consciously realized how often I cry and I cry a lot. I have a meltdown almost every 3 days and I thought it was because I could have bipolar or major mood swings.. that something was wrong with me. The whole time it was just Autism. These meltdowns last 4 1/2 hours, I can’t function during them.. Every minute takes a turn for the worse… when it’s bad feelings the whole world collapses, I’m falling apart.. I want to stop existing. Then I wake up the next day a different person, not knowing what it’s going to be. It’s exhausting. It’s Autism. I know that now.
2 weeks ago I cried in the bathtub because my whole life I couldn’t just be myself. I thought about my grandpa
“Why do you smile like that kaun?” [kaun: child in Cambodian/ Khmer]
So then I practiced my smile until it wasn’t mine anymore.
I thought about my step dad
“Why do you walk like that?” He laughed
So I practiced my walk, I swing my arms, try not to bounce so much when I walk, watch my feet. It wasn’t me anymore.
I thought about my mom
“Why are you being so sensitive?”
This was the age I suppose I was “supposed to grow out of” being sensitive to certain things. Certain words, certain sounds, brightness, temperature, the way something fit on my body.
“You’re too old to be doing that”
She gave away things that meant something to me. I taught myself not to have attachments now, I have so many problems when it comes to attachments
I remember being forced to sit at the table and eat. She would reheat my food 5 times in the microwave. I would sit there in the dark looking at my food. I’d stay there for 3 hours while they watched a movie. I stayed there crying. I have a weird relationship with food. I always have but it sucks.
It sucks because I couldn’t be myself and everything in my life was over looked. It sucks so much realizing life could have been easier. How much support I actually needed and never got. Discovering I have Autism has been the most painful and liberating thing to stumble upon.
It hurts so bad though.

Bihar Election 2020 | LIBERAL MELTDOWN Compilation! - 12th Nov 2020
Nitish Kumar, in coalition with the BJP, has won the 2020 Bihar Elections, proving pollsters and exit polls wrong once again. Tejaswi Yadav, who was crowned the CM by media and intellectuals before the results even came out, missed out on the CM position after NDA crossed the Midpoint mark.
This has obviously caused a meltdown among liberal media, intellectuals, and commentators who were already celebrating a Mahagathbandhan win. We present the best liberal meltdown compilation in this video.

Re: Chapter 241
OUR KIDS ARE BACK!! Todoroki and Bakugo bantering is a great way to return to their shenanigans. I love Izuku's somewhat snarky comment about Bakugo getting "further away from All Might", omg.... my boy.
Re Mt. Lady's point about people's sense of urgency and wanting a "true hero" to emerge- I wonder if more people are just going to become disillusioned with hero society and rally for quirk reform in the country. I keep wanting to see a societal meltdown in this story... utter chaos. And if anyone can bring it forth, it will be Shigaraki and the Paranormal Liberation Front. For now, the waters are calm and people at least appear optimistic. I could be totally wrong with some of these points.
(OH OH, one more thing- since the PLF has people in the media and some heroes on their side too, I wonder if they're going to use that to leak their ideologies into the public sphere and possibly gain more sympathy for their cause??? So instead of chaos it’s a slow trickling into the public mindset. That would be wicked.)
...Can I say how much I love Shoto? Taking everything literally and being socially inept... what a relatable character. And Izuku smiling proudly at him!
I knew Izuku was going to malfunction when it was his turn to be interviewed. I love how he immediately opened up and started rambling when his special interest was brought up. (All Might) And I'm glad that he's optimistic and serious about his new power.
I wasn't at all prepared for this panel.
GO TO BED, JESUS CHRIST. What a way for Toshi to make an appearance again.
Anyhow, I really really love that he's been researching the past users and their quirks and compiling notes about them for Izuku. (and he's using one of those Campos notebooks... I'm going to cry) So Izuku won't be left in the dark and not knowing what to expect. A++ shit right there. (hoping for some potential bonding that will occur from them talking about the past holders too??)
I want to speculate about what the past holders quirks are while we still can, but I have no idea. Hoping for something that will compliment the skills Izuku already has. They don't necessarily have to be ones based on brute force either... Black Whip is already precision based in a way. A mental or transformative quirk would be neat... we'll see.
Finally- Internships are coming back! I wonder who Izuku will go with. I forgot what became of Nighteye's agency after his death, but... internships are different from Hero Work Studies, right? I’m confusing myself. It'll be interesting. I'm expecting All Might to give that notebook to Izuku before all of that occurs.
I think that's it. Bloop.
#mha manga spoilers#i wrote this too#[muttering to myself]#re user ommanyte's analysis of this chapter: something bad IS going to happen to All Might if he doesn't get some sleep. holy moly

I've been talking about the ADHD neurotype a lot this week, so I think it's important to explain this neuro-affirming definition of ADHD.
ADHD is not: innatention, hyperactivity, impulsivity, and mood instability. ADHD does not impair ability to think. These are *distress symptoms* that occur in ADHD neurotypes.
This is parallel to the idea that Autism is not: meltdowns, self-harm, and anti-social behaviors. These are distress symptoms that occur in Autistic neurotypes. For both Autism and ADHD, the DSM criteria include more distress symptoms than innate traits, leading to confusion about what the Autistic and ADHD neurotypes are.
The ADHD neurotype is: neural hyperconnectivity, monotropism, holotropic sensory gating, a neuroceptive need for novelty and variety, an interest-driven dopamine system, and varying processing styles (both bottom-up and top-down processing).
(These innate traits of ADHD are still being compiled from the ADHD community, so there may be a few more traits that need to be added to the list in the future, but this list is a good start at describing what the ADHD neurotype is before or without trauma, or what the ADHD genes code for as a heritable phenotype.)
(Remind me to write about why "low dopamine" is caused by trauma and/or social environment, not an innate trait of ADHD.)
The ADHD neurotype is genetic and involves differences in brain structure. If the environment was absolutely perfect, with no trauma or overwhelm, an ADHD person would still be born with the ADHD neurotype. People with this neurotype have existed throughout history, and can usually be traced through family lines, though it can sometimes/rarely skip a generation.
ADHD is a disability, not because ADHD is an impairment, but because ADHD neurotypes are not supported in our culture. People with ADHD neurotypes need extensive help navigating a world constructed by neurotypical culture.
Being ADHD in a world designed for neurotypicals is extremely challenging and sometimes causes a lot of suffering. Blaming our own brains amplifies this suffering. Naming the source of our suffering shows us a path to relief: we need neurodivergent communities, we need neurotype friendly environments, we need liberation from systemic ableism. Working towards these collective solutions is what the neurodiversity movement is all about.

Towards Recovery and Intuitive Eating
Week #1 This Sunday it’s been a full week since my “epiphany” regarding the need and desire to fully recover from my disordered eating and overexercising habits, so I thought I’d share some struggles and some things I’m proud of. I’m proud of
Not looking at any step-tracking app to check how much exercise I did every day: It’s liberating. I get to walk around without carrying my phone everywhere at all times (that’s where I keep my apps, as I don’t have a Fitbit), yay! It’s very uncomfortable when you go to the toilet and you only have back pockets. I almost dropped it into the toilet a couple of times.
Not going out or pacing indoors for disordered reasons: I got to spend more quality time with my girlfriend and also had more time for myself. I went to the park and wrote, wrote at home, read, watched TV, and took care of house chores and the daily shopping without time constraints or (excessive) stress.
Eating when I felt hungry: I didn’t always do this, but it happened a couple of times. This morning, for example, I was hungry a couple of hours after breakfast, so I had some banana and peanut butter, when I would have waited for about two hours and a half to three hours and then only had either veggies or fruit. Instead, I tried to think of what I felt in the mood for, and my body said, “Peanut butter and banana.” So peanut butter and banana it was.
Paying more attention to my post-meal physical reactions: I already have a number of foods I know I have to eat in moderation, because they give me some discomfort. For example, I feel weird and uncomfortable after having a lot of sugary foods at once, or I feel bloated when I eat too many parsnips. On the other hand, I am compiling a list of foods I want to eat in great quantity for whatever reason. This includes avocado, chickpeas, peanut butter, eggs, and Heck chicken chipolatas (a brand of sausages only available in the UK), and it keeps getting longer.
Doing workouts I truly enjoy as opposed to obsessive-compulsive exercise: I started weightlifting following some short workout videos on YouTube, made by professional fitness trainers and designed for beginners. I love weight lifting, so I’m going to do it alongside running, but I will reduce running workouts in terms of time per session and number of sessions per week. I’m having so much fun with my weights! Which are ridiculously light, but we all have to start somewhere. Plus it’s just sheer fun; I don’t plan to become a professional bodybuilder or anything.
Struggles
Guilt: Some days, like today, are easier than others. These easier days usually occur when I do some type of moderate/high intensity exercise. I’d like to change that, but I have to remind myself this is only Week 1. Sometimes I have been really tempted to walk more or eat less to curb my fear. Sometimes I have done both, although I think they were only exceptions in an otherwise not-too-disordered week.
Excuses: I still make so many excuses – or rather my flatmate does. If I feel a little discomfort, she perks up and whispers, “How about you skip your snack or eat less at your next meal? What if you walk around a little and see if it gets any better? Shouldn’t you exercise today, too?” I’ve tried to shut her up. Her voice can be truly annoying.
Meltdowns: I had one severe breakdown yesterday. First my girlfriend and I went out for the daily shopping, then we went back home and at first I decided to go out again. However, I stopped myself five minutes after leaving the flat and asked her to go back, because it wasn’t what I wanted or needed to do at the time. Then I spent some time worrying about my decision not to walk more and I felt stressed and unable to focus. BUT (there’s a happy ending!) I took my laptop and went to the park, where I wrote without looking at my phone. I needed time away from the internet, which could have tempted me into researching food, recipes, and whatnot, as well as the flat, where I could have decided to start pacing obsessively. It was overall a triumph, but I’d rather not have similar breakdowns to begin with.
I thought I’d share some honesty and positivity on this fine Sunday (well, it’s fine in the UK, at the very least!). Have a nice day, folks!

LIBERAL MELTDOWN Compilation | Gyanvapi Masjid Shivling! May 2022
Yet another big liberal meltdown has been caused after a Shivling was discovered in the wuzukhana well of the Gyanvyapi masjid complex. Hindus have demanded that there is overwhelming proof of their temple's existence and that their sacred site must be returned to them.
We present a liberal meltdown compilation over the Gyanvyapi Shivling discovery and the Hinduphobic attacks over Hindus' demand for their rights.
We also explain the Places Of Worship Act, 1991, and how Hindus can regain the Gyanvyapi Masjid area in a constitutional manner.

VIDEO COMPILATION: Media Mob Suffers Collective Meltdown Over Kanye West’s White House Visit
Rapper and music legend Kanye West visited President Trump in the Oval Office on Thursday.
The liberal media (95% of mainstream media today) had a collective meltdown over his visit with Trump. CNN’s Don Lemon led the charge accusing Kanye West of putting on a “minstrel show” for the man.
This is the pure hatred you see from the Democrat Party today.

Trump supporters think their ‘election night meltdown’ videos are being deleted
[ad_1]
Is YouTube deleting those popular pro-Trump video compilations mocking Democrats and liberals “melting down” over Donald Trump’s 2016 election night win?
No, but a conspiracy theory is gaining traction on Reddit alleging just that.
