I don't have a grandiose family tradition on Christmas, except I have to eat tortellini in brodo on Christmas Eve and ice cream on Christmas, just because I was in need of a tradition years ago and came up with that. My favourite ice cream shop is closed this season, though, and I still have to go look for another option.

Usually board games are nice. Tombola is very fun during this time, although I don't seem to be very lucky at it, and sometimes I skillfully ask to play Scrabble instead.

10 books for 2025

I was tagged by the lovely @drowsinginspace <3 Thank you, I'm actually gonna add some of yours in it :D

Since I've joined The StoryGraph it's been fun to follow some reading challenges, so I've actually managed to read a bit more and finally got out of my reading slump! I've already finished 5 books so far this year, but let's see if I'll keep this pace for the rest of it.

10 books I would like to read this year:

Emma by Jane Austen. I read 3 Jane Austen books like 20 years ago and loved them but I couldn't get into Mansfield Park so I never read Jane Austen's other books. But after seeing one of the movie adaptations, I'm really excited to go back to Jane Austen with our little book club <3

Emily Wilde's Compendium of Lost Tales by Heather Fawcett. This is the third and book in this cosy/romance/fantasy series set in the 1920's in the world of Academia and faerie. And I'm really excited for it cause I loved the first two!

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas. I've been hearing so much about this one and I finally got it so I'm excited to read it and see if it's as good as people say it is!

Carmilla by Sheridan Le Fanu. It seems to be a sort of queer version of Dracula from 1872 so I'm really curious and interested in reading this.

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. I started reading it a few years ago and couldn't get to the end cause the main character was annoying me so much but I really want to give it another try since it's such a classic. I might also be working on a poster and scenography for a modern stage adaptation later this year so I feel like I should read the whole story!

Leonardo Da Vinci biography by Serge Bramly. I've had this book for like ten years. I've always found him to be a really fascinating character and wanted to know more about him but I can never get myself to read non-fiction. But hopefully this year is the year!

Starling House by Alix Harrow. This is a sort of gothic rewrite of Beauty and the Beast. I've loved the first book I read by Alix Harrow and I'm really excited for this one as well!

The Stolen Heir by Holly Black. I really like The Folk of the Air series so I've been meaning to read this new series in the same verse for a while. Hopefully it's just as good :)

A Witch's Guide to Magical Inkeeping by Sangu Mandanna. Loved the cosy witchy feel of the first book I read by this author so I'm excited to read this one when it comes out later this year.

The Long Earth series by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter. I read this first three series of this sci-fi series a while ago and really liked it. I've been pacing myself to read the last Terry Pratchett books I still have to read but I think it's time to finish this series!

A Miscalculated Leap

Author: @eclecticmuses Rating: Explicit Relationships/Characters: Leo Fitz/Jemma Simmons Additional Tags: Explicit Sexual Content, Vaginal Sex, First Time, Canon-Divergent AU Summary: After the whole harrowing ordeal with the Chitauri virus, Jemma goes to Fitz's bunk to talk to him to thank him for his role in saving her life. But things take a turn that she didn't quite expect and then they get... heated. A canon-divergent fic where Fitz and Jemma both get what they deserved.

Excerpt:

“I was going to do it, you know,” Fitz said, twisting his fingers together in his lap. “I had the antiserum, the chute, everything—”

“I know you were,” Jemma reassured him.

“I just couldn’t get the straps on,” he added.

She started to lay a hand on his arm to stop his rambling, soothe him, something, but caught herself. “Fitz, please—”

At the end of everything, after surviving the worst day of her life, she’d finally made it to Fitz’s bunk to talk to him. To apologize, perhaps, for knocking him out and making him live through the trauma of seeing her jump. She would do all of it all over again in a heartbeat; she’d truly believed she was doing the only thing possible to save Fitz and the team. She’d known Fitz would never give up on her, so she’d tried to save him, along with everyone else, from herself. Finding out it had all been needless and the serum had in fact worked had put a certain damper on her righteousness. She was thankful to be alive, of course she was, but it was hard to look Fitz in the face when she knew there’d been no reason to hurt him.

He’d been almost shy ever since she’d come to his bunk, staring at his hands or his lap or the floor as they spoke, anywhere but at her, and his words were hesitant. Almost like he couldn’t believe she was really there. Jemma couldn’t blame him. She was still half in disbelief that she was still alive herself. But she also wondered if it had to do with the words they’d exchanged before their epiphany regarding the antiserum, where they’d come so close to acknowledging what was between them after years of it going unsaid.

You’ve been beside me the whole damn time.
