I think maybe we should reevaluate Chloe and her selfishness.

She’s selfish in a way for being so upset about David, unwilling to admit that her mom moved on in a different way.

But while people always use the above to say Chloe is a horrible person (despite the fact Chloe has incredibly valid reasons for fearing Max’s waning attention or David’s negative presence ) I would like to point out that when push comes to shove; she almost begs Max to pick the town over her.

And yeah, some of that is because Chloe’s self esteem is actually a whole lot lower than she portrays, but she still picks the town. She doesn’t argue for herself, she doesn’t try and say that her life has been terrible so she deserves a break or a second chance ; she says her mom deserves to live.

I feel like sibling and platonic relationships don’t get talked enough, especially in relation to romantic relationships in fandoms.

Like cool, I love these ship, but can we PLEASE discuss the fact that Dean is the only person who has never lied to Lia? How he is the only person she will listen to, because he’s the only person she trusts? How Dean was the one person who prevented her from feeling trapped all the time? How Dean was the only person Lia ever let know and get close to the real her? How they were the only constants (besides Judd love him too) in each other’s lives for years in their childhood? The way he knows her and she knows him? She knows how to comfort him and distract him and get him to feel things and tried to help him with his father by looking through his father's file, ignoring her own feelings about it because she just wanted to help him only to find out that she can’t help. (Just think for a moment how she must have felt when she realized that. Because this genuinely breaks my heart.) The fact that they are intensely protective of each other, the way they have conversations without talking just by looking at each other, the way Dean trusts her and Lia trusts him, how they are literally siblings.

And this is going into kind of headcanon-y territory, but I like to believe that Dean didn’t ask Lia any questions about her past and waited for her to tell him herself, and refrained from profiling her (too much at least), and truly didn’t/doesn’t know anything about her past that she didn’t/doesn’t tell him. And how Dean told him things about his past he hadn’t told anyone before, not just to get her to trust him, but also because he trusted her. Just think for a moment please, how Lia, a girl who has been lied to and hurt and threatened and abused by every single person in her life, would feel about meeting someone who didn’t do any of that. Who never even lied to her, not once. For every lie she told him, Dean only ever told her the truth. Dean didn’t blame her for anything, for any part of what she went through. How confused she must have been, finding out that not everyone was like that. How hurt she must have been when she realized that what happened in her past, her childhood, was so much worse than she thought. Because before she thought that everyone was like that and it was normal, but meeting Dean who was entirely fundamentally different in every single way, showed her that it wasn’t. Think about how Dean must have felt, meeting a girl so defensive and closed off. How meeting her awakened a side of him he didn’t think he had, the side that felt and loved and trusted and the side that felt the inexplicable need to protect that girl.

And the fact that to protect her, Dean turns the attention on himself and his past, which he hates, just so Lia doesn’t have to face questions about her own past. Lia would go through hell for him, and he would do the same for her.

Think about how before, all of Lia’s love had essentially been very idk submissive almost, like how she followed her mother and what her mother told her. I think she truly believed at some point that her mother was safe to trust. And then, well, we all know what happened and how her mother is actually evil and— Anyway, after her mother, the only person she trusted in her childhood before, completely shattered and destroyed all senses of trust in others, she lets herself trust and love this boy who trusts and loves her. And this love is fierce and protective, infinitely intense and powerful. The kind of love that can destroy worlds and build new ones, defying all logic and all boundaries. The opposite of what her love had been previously. And think about how much she had to have trusted him to let herself love like that.

Also think about how hurt Lia must have been when Dean shut her out. She trusted him with her whole being, she loved him and she saw them as a unit regardless of what happened and what other people entered and left their lives. They would always be with each other. Dean had never shut her out before, and Dean shut her out too. That hurts my soul way too much for it to be healthy. (I am choosing to believe that they had a conversation afterwards and then they both proceeded to cry and it never happened again yay happy ending tbh considering writing that bc I don't think I will survive if it doesn't end happily like that)

And Dean!! He’s lived his entire life terrified of feeling, terrified of becoming his father. He was living in a house alone with Judd and profiling killers which definitely perpetuated his fear, and then here came this girl whom he could protect. A girl he wouldn’t let himself hurt, a girl he could help for once and not mess it all up. And he didn’t mess it up. He saw how hurt she was, and how little she was willing to admit the truth to. And in that, he saw someone he could understand. He saw someone who he could profile for a good reason, but only profile enough to be able to get her to trust him and not enough to violate her privacy and that trust. He let himself get close to someone for the first time in his life. And for the first time in his life, he wasn’t a monster. Lia didn’t see him as a monster.

Because of their past and childhood, Dean didn’t trust himself and Lia only trusted herself and no one else. But meeting and loving each other? It taught Dean he can trust himself not to hurt someone. And it taught Lia that she can trust someone who won’t hurt her.

Maybe it’s because of the amatocentric world being way too focused on romantic relationships, but why aren’t we talking about this more??

Idc what yall chronically online debate film bros have to say, I'm gonna enjoy the living fuck out of the new crow movie. Why? Because I eat up ANYTHING Bill Skarsgard is in. Because why? Because that man acts like his rent is due everytime. By that fact alone I know this movie will be significantly better than all of the sequels combined. Idc if it's not like original, if I wanted to see the original I'd re-watch it, and I do! Don't get me wrong, Brandon Lee could NEVER be replaced, his Eric Draven cannot be remade or matched. But knowing what I know about Bill as a performer, I know he gave it his all and made the character his. If I wanted a perfect movie I'd watch the original. I'm not expecting a perfect movie, no remake is, but at least this one looks cool as hell and has an amazing lead who kills it every time. And that's all that matters to me.

I'm genuinely excited to see what Bill has to give us. Whether it lives up to the original or not is irrelevant to me. You're allowed to have multiple versions of one character. If you dont believe me, ask batman, hell ask Superman. This is no different. Let's stop the premature hate train and at least watch it first, yeah?

i have so many conflicted feelings about Nathan Prescott

on one hand, i DESPISE him. he drugged multiple women. he kills Rachel because of his stupidity. he shoots and kills Chloe through sheer carelessness. he intimidates and assaults Max the first chance he gets (bro grabbed her by the fucking NECK in broad daylight) then beats the shit out of Warren. he's one of the main reasons for Kate's suicide attempt. and he's just so goddamn mean for no reason

on the other hand, he's FASCINATING. literally THE worst-case-scenario for any person who is mentally ill like he is because it absolutely did NOT need to be that way but he had a terrible fuck-you concoction of

• no parental support

• minimal contact with people who do love and support him (his sister, who seems awesome)

• the ONE authority figure who he thinks he can trust turns out to be a serial kidnapper-killer (LITERALLY WORST CASE SCENARIO)

• and friends (specifically Victoria) that he absolutely cannot confide in because what is he gonna do, admit to murdering Rachel Amber?

but he also had every chance to stop and tell somebody but he didn't. then he ends up dead in the bae ending after leaving that absolutely heartbreaking voicemail on Max's phone just apologizing for everything. it's comeuppance that does not feel good because on top of being terrible, he's also just so...pathetic (and Before The Storm just makes him a fucking loser) and him getting murdered by Jefferson didn't feel like justice

but i hate him. the only time i enjoy him is his fanon version where people completely remove Jefferson from the equation and get him into therapy. then he's just a Regular Asshole™

It’s because of this exact moment that I can’t bring myself to like David, honestly. I wish I could say that Lia from the naturals gets likeable and the last 2(fully fledge) books are a little fuzzy. But Lia in the naturals and killer instincts I hate so much. "You didn't do any but get caught" the fuck you mean, Cassie(the main character) could be just going to the basement for literally anything, and people argue(in book) that since Cassie is a profiler she shouldn't be in the basement..but honestly she has a right to be there, because profilers look at scenes too. And the only reason she got banned was because Sloane(their inhouse Spencer Reid) built something. Like.. Cassie didn't ask her to do it, didn't even put the idea in Sloane's head. Lia is just fucking jealous because she knows Cassie would be better for Micheal(their pretty boy™) and she could actually heal Dean's wounds. Like it's not her fault you and Micheal are horrible for each other, and y'all don't try to be better. Their relationship is mostly built on pissing off dean and ignoring pain and their feelings. Like Lia is so bitchy because Cassie just wants to try to help, and it leads to people getting hurt..it's almost like she didn't tell Micheal to follow her and dean when they went to a safe house? And it's almost like Cassie thought she could trust the person who told her and dean to go to the safe house like..? Lia sucks

i just watched hunger games 1 after rereading the books and i have some… thoughts.

so everyone goes on about how the movies are so inaccurate to the books, but (and i say this as an avid bookworm) i don’t think they really are. the biggest inaccuracies i noted were as follows:

a) rue and katniss don’t talk about their different districts — however, i do think this wasn’t terrible as they had to amend the plot at several points since we didn’t have katniss as a narrator, like when caesar explains what tracker jackers are.

b) the one that stood out the most to me: the mutts are just… dogs. not tributes, children, that have had their eyes gouged out and their bodies twisted and warped to be another pawn for the games, even in death. children whose families, to our knowledge, do not even receive their babies’ bodies. and this was such a big detail to overlook since this is precisely the reason katniss is so horrified, and precisely the reason the brutality of the games is made so clear to us, the viewers: because these children will always be nothing but pieces on a game board to the people in power. things to be used, warped, destroyed, and then discarded. because when katniss looks into glimmer’s (or her mutt’s) eyes, it finally hits her how insignificant the capitol views the tributes. how even when you’re winning, there’s something to be used against you. she even sees rue, the girl she saved, the little twelve year old she buried, rabid and frothing at the mouth with hate. and this is when she sees, in perfect clarity, the grotesquerie of the games.

c) key details were omitted, like when haymitch fell off the stage, when madge gave katniss the pin, when peeta threw haymitch’s glass against the wall in the train car, how katniss threw peeta into the vase after the interviews and peeta’s hands were lacerated, how the soup from the parachute was actually broth and not the infamous lamb soup with plums that katniss loves (and subsequently, the ice-breaker in caesar’s interview being different), and of course, the infamous black buttercup. i mean, all in all, these were quite annoying— but not to the point where they changed the main message of the movie: the corrupting nature of power and how this breeds cruelty and uncompassion for human life. i think they stayed true to this, and that’s why i believe the films are a worthy tribute to the books!

furthermore, to compensate for the loss of katniss’ inner narrative spelling out key details for us in the books, the film does actually come up with pretty clever ways to work around this. like, as previously mentioned, when caesar explains on live television, to a capitol audience, what tracker jackers are and why they’re so deadly, which is key to the scene where katniss cuts the nest down. or, when the parachutes come with little notes; since we can’t see katniss putting together that a good kiss = a reward, we are actually told by the note in the soup parachute. “you call that a kiss, sweetheart?” we also have further insight into seneca crane’s death, which is so breathtakingly poetic, and symbolic, in my opinion. well, at least as poetic as a death can be. in addition, even though the books do mention it, we see in real time how haymitch flatters and strokes and fights for sponsors for katniss and peeta. this is so significant, as a man who has been forced to mentor years and years of tributes, to watch them die over and over again, and to gradually lose all hope that they’ll survive— this man is the one that is fighting so hard for katniss and peeta. we can see that better in the film. so the inconsistencies, in my opinion, can be overlooked as we will never truly have a film that is 100% loyal to the books. (unless it’s lord of the rings but shhh)

but what really sealed it home for me was something that the books actually didn’t do: we have the sense as viewers, a lot of the time, that we are intruding upon a profoundly personal moment. like with katniss and peeta in the cave. but that’s exactly what the film is trying to drive home. and that’s what makes it so fantastic. because we are intruding. we shouldn’t be watching such a deeply personal and vulnerable moment for katniss, who never shows her feelings if she can’t help it, and peeta, who shows his like an open book. it’s wrong on both accounts because in addition to these children being forced to fight brutally and bloodily to the death, they have to put on a pantomime as they do! i mean, what could be more unjust than a girl who’s being put to death being forced to give everyone a show on the way out? when the camera is just a bit too close, when there is no soothing filler music, when we can see them, raw and real, two kids afraid to die in an unfamiliar forest far away from their home, we feel uncomfortable. because why should we get to see this? how can this be fair? surely, they can have just this one thing. but that’s the whole point. they can’t. and we— watching from the same perspective as the capitol audience, i would like to emphasise— feel complicit in robbing these two kids of a brief moment of respite. that is what the film tries, and succeeds brilliantly, to convey.

i’m sure there’s still more to cover, but this is just what i noticed and felt the need to write about from my first time watching ‘the hunger games’. in conclusion: the film was actually fantastic if you don’t nitpick the small details. i think it’s a raw and real and fantastic tribute to the books, and should be treated as such.
