a (very inexhaustive, wincest-heavy) sam whump reclist
@transfemmesam asked me for Sam whump recs a few days ago, and I've had other requests in the same vein before (I can't imagine why.../s) so I thought I would throw this together, since these authors deserve all of the love and support for their contributions to our li'l fandom corner.
like I mentioned in the title, this is not at all a comprehensive list; I have at least ~200 more fics in my to-read queue that could thematically fit here, but alas, I have stupid shit like a job and a body and a dog to take care of, so. I'm always happy to get recs along these lines, so if you notice anything important missing, hit me UP. (and don't take any omissions as any specific commentary by me -- it's likely I just haven't had the chance to read it yet, haha.)
disclaimers:
some (most, honestly) of these contain potentially triggering and dark content, including but not limited to rape/noncon, torture, and suicidal attempts & ideation. I have tried to note content warnings where applicable, and most of the works are hosted on ao3, so the tags should have most of the information you need to make an informed decision. that being said, tread with caution. all of the summaries provided are from the original author, with warnings added after by me.
the list is in alphabetical order and separated into wincest and gen categories. a lot of the gen is also focused on the sam & dean relationship, because...I am what I am. and what I am a sucker for these two dipshits. there is also a brief section at the end with a few fics that don't fit into either category.
gen
All That Goes Unspoken by amnesiawife:
A case forces Sam to confront something long kept buried. (Set nebulously in season 12.)
CW: discussions of past rape/noncon, victim blaming
Beneath the Trees 'verse by Lise (5 works total, starting with Beneath the Trees, Where Nobody Sees):
Sam doesn't go to Stanford. Everything goes downhill from there.
CW: suicidal ideation
a boy is a cage by ad_castra:
After expelling Gadreel from Sam's body, Dean thinks they're in the clear. If only they were that lucky. // S9 fic wherein Gadreel's grace causes some adverse side-effects in Sam's mind.
CW: past referenced rape/noncon, body horror
body of proof by Askance (doomcountry):
There are things Sam hasn't told his brother. They're all in the envelope laid on Dean's pillow.
CW: heavy discussion of past rape/noncon
break these bones 'til they're better by redskyatmorning:
After Sam’s torture at the hands of the British Men of Letters, the latest in a long string of violations, he is rescued by Dean and Mary – and forced to ponder his broken relationship with his own body. Months later, when Sam is resurrected and tormented by Lucifer yet again, Dean confronts Mary and Sam gets his revenge against the devil.
catching my death (staring out an open window) by ad_castra:
Sam gazes at the window, catches the faint pink hue tinting the sky. It’s so realistic - he could breathe in the fresh air if he were really here. ----- They got Sam out. Sometimes, just knowing that isn't enough.
CW: implied past rape/noncon
Death of Convenience by WilsonTheMoose:
It should have been easy. Wendigos are no joke but daylight slows them. The weather's been unpredictable though and perfect, idyllic hunts don't exactly stay that way where they're concerned. Or Sam has one card to play and never stops to think that Dean would care if he killed himself.
CW: suicidal ideation, references to suicide
Echoes of Hell by The_Nightbreaker:
It wasn't real. He wasn't in Hell anymore. That's what he tried to tell himself over and over. But two centuries of torture don't disappear in a day. Sam struggles with visions of Hell, fighting to maintain his grip on reality. Dean hates that he can't protect his brother from what isn't real—but curse him if he doesn't try. When the boys stumble on a case with ties to the Devil himself, will they be able to pull themselves together in time to stop the sacrifices? Or will the echoes of Hell finally overtake them? Aka, season 7, but the plot is Hell trauma, not leviathans.
CW: suicidal ideation
Evening Shadows by withthekeyisking:
Sam is hallucinating the monster who tortured him for nearly two centuries, Dean feels like he's failing his brother, and a diner waitress bears witness.
CW: past rape/noncon
Everything Dies Given Time by Lise:
AU from 5.03. Sam discovers something wrong with himself, and learns to live with it. Only a lot less functional.
CW: suicide/temporary character death
The Freedom to Be Loud by jribbing:
It hadn’t occurred to Dean that maybe Sam remembered so much about that little nowhere town because something memorable had happened there.
CW: referenced past rape/noncon
golgotha by redskyatmorning:
There’s a vacancy on the throne of hell, and Sam is desperate enough to save Dean from Michael’s possession to give into the abyssal depths of his own darkness.
Head Space by ameliacareful:
A witch curses Sam leaving him blind, deaf, and bedridden. Left with only the inside of his own head and the occasional touch, Sam begins to unravel.
CW: suicidal ideation
Hiraeth by inkandpaperqwerty:
(n.) a homesickness for a home to which you cannot return, a home which maybe never was; the nostalgia, the yearning, the grief for the lost places of your past "Dean... I made a really big mistake." For a second, Dean actually thought things were going okay. He was out of Hell, Sam agreed to stop drinking demon blood, they had just wrapped up a successful hunt... for once, everything was okay. And then it wasn't. "I overdosed." Not at all.
CW: suicide attempts, suicidal ideation
if i could leave (i would've already left) by serendipity0930:
“I have a mission from God for you,” the Angel whispers to the man. “It is time for you to do what you were born to.” The man’s face twists into a smile, delighted over being chosen by Him, a purpose from God digging into his heart, carving out a place to fester. “Hunt.” ... 05x03 AU where Zachariah is even more determined to keep the brothers apart and hunters are all too willing to take Lucifer's True Vessel off the board for good
CW: referenced suicide
It's A River (But Not In Egypt) by Lise:
He's still a liar. Maybe always has been.
CW: toxic Sam/Lucifer dynamics
Kindred Instruments by PinBitch:
They’re in a tug of war and Sam is the rope. He doesn’t need to be alive for that. OR Sam dies in detox, being flung against the walls of a metal box will do that to you. Dean and Ruby pick up the pieces.
CW: temporary main character death, permanent supporting character death
lazarus trick by katsidhe:
Sam's alive, so everything is gonna be okay. 13.22 coda.
Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence by Lise:
Sam's back. He's in one piece. That's the problem.
CW: self-harm
love is like ghosts by redskyatmorning:
I’m poison, Dean had said instead of I’m sorry. Well, Sam wants to say, what does that make me? What the hell does that make me? (A look into Sam's mind in the aftermath of the Gadreel possession.)
The Other Brother by RadioFriday:
Sam and Adam are pulled from the cage at the same time. Sam is not right, and Adam, stuck as his caretaker, is not pleased.
Oxygen by inkandpaperqwerty:
“Cas! Cas, please! Please, answer me! Cas!” Castiel ignores Dean for several minutes, but then Dean gives him an opening that might help him complete his mission. So, he goes to investigate, and what he finds is a very bloody, nearly dead Sam. Dean tells him where the injuries came from, and Castiel quickly becomes confused. It doesn't make sense, but Dean tries to explain it to him, and slowly... Castiel begins to understand.
CW: suicide attempt
Post Hoc, Ergo Propter Hoc by AmberSock:
Sam waits, kneeling, for his execution. What if Dean hadn't missed?
CW: temporary character death
Safety In Distance by GalaxyThreads and SpiritClusters:
The Mark of Cain is a brand of violence. Sam was an idiot to think that he'd be exempt from it, just because he and Dean are siblings.
sometimes a kind of singing by adi_rotynd:
Sam gets cursed. They're dealing with it. Jack can see souls. That one they're not dealing with quite as well.
CW: past referenced rape/noncon
Soul Windows by GalaxyThreads and Spirit Clusters:
A few months after his birth, Jack learns how to see souls. Then he comes to a realization about the Winchester brothers, Sam in particular, and it's not a pleasant one. (gen)
Starry Night by keepcalmsmile:
Sam attempts suicide-by-monster. Dean tries to help. It sort of works...until it doesn't.
CW: suicide attempts, suicidal ideation
such fragile, broken things by The_Bookkeeper:
Sam wishes that Dean would just get it over with already.
The Tale of Sir Galahad by keepcalmsmile:
Sam once said he could never be clean like Sir Galahad. Dean assumed he was just talking about the demon blood. Turns out, Sam was talking about something else too. WARNING: Extended discussions of the aftermath of rape and childhood sexual abuse (but NO description of the actual events). Happy(ish) ending, but potentially very triggering.
CW: past rape/noncon, mentioned CSA
They Hammered in His Teeth by jribbing:
Sam has a secret.
CW: suicidal ideation
today's troubles (are history tomorrow) by a_good_soldier:
"It's not really something I know how to share," Sam had said. In which Dean figures he ought to help Sam out a bit.
Touch and Go by themegalosaurus:
Tag to 9.19 (Alex Annie Alexis Ann) in which Dean realises why, exactly, Sam is so angry about what happened with Gadreel.
trust fall by ad_castra:
“I’m nothing like you,” Sam hisses. Nevermind relating to the anguish of going it alone. Nevermind that he knows what it is to be strapped down and forcibly cleansed against his will. Sam wonders if these trials are purifying Crowley as well.
Words Like Glass by broken_cinders:
Dean never figured the cage wouldn't leave a mark. He was prepared for memories, flashbacks, and nightmares. He wasn't expecting the words Sam brought back with him or the way they made him seem just a breath beyond Dean's reach.
Wound and Unwound by fascra:
Sam stops eating spring of his freshman year.
CW: eating disorder
wincest (dean/sam)
Brittle by thecapn:
Sam Winchester has an eating disorder.
CW: eating disorder
Don't You Cry No More by sixtysevenlmpala (schittyfic):
The first time Sam gets badly hurt on a hunt, he doesn’t cry. Dean does.
Fall On Your Knees by dollylux:
Sam doesn't quite make it home on the last day of school before winter break.
The Fall Will Probably Kill You by killabeez:
Set between 7.04 and the aftermath of 7.07. Dean is not as okay as he'd like you to think. Neither is Sam.
CW: self-harm
Feels so good to feel again by Trojie:
The pain keeps Lucifer at bay, at least to start with.
Follow In Your Form by withthekeyisking:
Sam is hallucinating Lucifer in the wake of Cas bringing his Hell Wall crashing down. To make matters worse, it seems like this has his dormant powers flaring back to life.
Last Temptation by merle_p:
Sam is running a fever again, the kind of fever no Ibuprofen or cold compress will bring down, the kind of fever that is eating him up alive, eviscerating him from the inside. He is too hot and too cold and too pale, delirious and shaking, resonating with whatever divine energy the trials are subjecting him to, and Dean is not sure how much longer he can stand to see him be in this state. Because Sam is quite possibly dying, and there is nothing Dean can do to stop it. Because Sam is dying, and he just. Won’t. Shut. Up.
CW: mentioned past rape/noncon
leeches by Anonymous:
Sam discovers a spell to make everybody forget him. He’s convinced it’s for the best. Pre-Stanford.
CW: attempted kidnapping/torture
Make Thick My Blood by themegalosaurus:
“You’re going to kill me, Dean,” Sam says, eventually. And all Dean can say is, “I think I am.” A season 10 AU, set after 10x14 ('The Executioner's Song'). Cas finds a solution that might cure the Mark of Cain; but if they're going to go through with it, Sam has a terrible price to pay.
CW: mentioned past rape/noncon
Prophecy of an Abomination by ashitanoyuki:
Sam is kidnapped by fanatically religious hunters and crucified. Coming back from this won't be easy. Canon-divergent from midway through season 2.
Recall by De_Nugis:
Sam's having a hard time telling what's real and what isn't, especially when it comes to some voicemails from Dean.
The Room Upstairs by brokenlittleboy:
Sam comes back from hell, but he’s inside-out and all wrong, and Dean can’t fix him.
CW: mentioned past rape/noncon
Ruin You (and its companion fic Worth) by Mumble_Bee:
Cole fucks Sam with Demon!Dean watching from a devil's trap, snarling that anyone would dare touch what was his. “I told you I don’t care what you do to his face or his blood or his fucking nose,” Dean growled, “but you put your dick anywhere near him and I will end you.” “Better hurry up then, Dean, because I don’t think I can wait much longer.”
CW: explicit rape/noncon
Snowed In by HelloStarlingFics:
When working a case, Sam and Dean get stuck out in a shack in the woods when the snow comes in hard and fast. Trouble is, Sam’s hated the cold ever since the Cage. Time for Dean to step up and look after him.
Wake by minchout:
Gadreel has had Sam for four years, and Dean, lost in guilt and obsessed with finding a way to get his brother back, has isolated himself in a cabin in the Missouri Ozarks with nothing but the woods, a stray dog, some chickens, and all the books the Men of Letters had to offer to keep him company. Then Sam shows up one day without his passenger, and Dean learns quickly that it doesn't matter that Sam is with him again - there is still a lot of work to be done before they can find their way back to each other.
Wanting to Forget by morganaDW (morgana07):
1-shot. S1 fic. After getting Sam freed from the Benders Dean thinks all he has to cope with is some bruises and cuts. He learns quickly just how wrong he is when Sam wakes up with a nightmare, reliving his brief but bad captivity in every detail. Sam just wants to forget & Dean has to try to get him to let him help. Will one night of cruelty and pain ruin what’s been formed between them?
CW: referenced past rape/noncon
when I wake up I'm afraid, somebody else might take my place by quake_quiver:
Sam doesn’t remember the last time he cried for Dean like he did that night. And now it’s been…two weeks. Maybe more. Sam is tired, and in pain, and starting to doubt that Dean’s going to show up. He’s weak and shaking from a combination of constant pain and hunger. Sam longs for Dean. Dean would make it better. Dean would fix it.
CW: rape/noncon, body horror
Wire Inside Me by merle_p:
There are a lot of things Sam hates about his current condition, to the point where he sometimes feels for the gun under his pillow at night, blindly toys with the safety, imagines pressing the muzzle into the underside of his chin and pulling the trigger just to make it stop. But there’s nothing he hates as much as the shadows he sees in Dean’s eyes whenever his brother is looking at him these days. It’s not an expression he remembers ever seeing before, but Sam thinks it’s probably something like revulsion. Horror. Disgust. What else could it be.
CW: referenced past rape/noncon, body horror, forced pregnancy
Worth (and its companion fic Ruin You) by Mumble_Bee:
Episode 10x01 "Black" where Dean is a human, and very, very, pissed off to hear someone has hands on his brother. “It’s nothing personal,” Cole whispered into Sam's ear, too quietly for Dean to hear, “but I need to kill your brother, and I need him off his game when he gets here. I don’t wanna hurt you, kid, but I’m going to, anyway. I’m going to hurt you a lot."
CW: explicit rape/noncon
you'll never see us again by according2thelore:
Then finally, his eyes trail over to Dean. His pupils are pin-point thin, and his hair is straggling in his face so Dean can’t see most of what expression lies there. Sam usually wakes up from nightmares in one of three attitudes: confusion, fear, or calm. A scary, sense-prickling calm that Dean hates more than anything else. Resignation, almost. Or: Sam suffers from nightmares and touch starvation post-Cage. They do their best to deal.
other Sam/Lucifer noncon
Cage Fight (No Way To Do This Right) by Dyed_Red:
Sam’s visit to the cage is already going awry, but Dean’s one-man rescue ends up skidding it sideways into territory neither him or Sam are ready for. (Gratuitous episode scene re-write. If Cas hadn’t come till after, if he hadn’t been there yet when Dean ran down to the 'parole' cage after hearing Sam scream - how bad could it have got for the brothers before he made it?)
CW: graphic rape/noncon
Into Being by withthekeyisking:
When Sam wakes up in the cave on Apocalypse World after having been killed by vamps, it's not just to find Lucifer there with him. It's to find him in him.
CW: graphic rape/noncon, necrophilia, forced pregnancy
Reggie/Tim/Sam noncon
a pointless resistance for you by withthekeyisking:
Sam doesn't know how long he's been with Tim and Reggie by the time Dean shows up and tries to take him out of there. Long enough that's he's already lost one baby and is pregnant with the next. Long enough that this life is starting to feel like all he knows.
CW: graphic rape/noncon, forced pregnancy & miscarriage, victim blaming
screaming birds sound an awful lot like singing by withthekeyisking:
Sam has done his best to move past what Tim and Reggie did to him, pretending it never happened at all. But running into them again makes that very difficult—especially when Dean gets involved.
CW: referenced past rape/noncon
Waste 'Em All by withthekeyisking:
When Tim and Reggie try to force the demon blood down Sam's throat, he spits it back out. He has no interest in being turned into their own personal attack dog. They don't...take it well.
CW: explicit rape/noncon

"Mmm? So you can finally see cute li'l me."
The pair / alternate side to my first Shinigami flower art, featuring our favourite puffy partner~! And true to her character here are some multi-faceted flower meanings for her. Blue flowers often stand for trust, inspiration and mystery, while purple can represent royalty, elegance or magic. For our crowned Mystery Labyrinth queen, a pretty fitting colour scheme. The first flower I included here was the Balloon Flower, a five pointed star like flower than comes primarily in blue hues. It's name comes from the way it puffs up before blooming, like a little balloon, much like our friendly death god! It has a vast amount of meanings from different cultures. In general gift meanings it means endless love, honesty and obedience, some things Shinigami says she'll offer her Master. In Victorian flower language it can symbolize the desire for a friend to return. In medieval Japan it meant magic and divination, as well as the five elements. In many places in Europe it meant the fives senses, and some it simply references a pentagram. The Columbine Flower, shown here in purple, pink and blue, with white petals in one layer and coloured pointed spurs behind each. In latin, the common name comes from the word for dove, for the white petals, though it's scientific name comes from eagle, for the talon like spurs. In Celtic belief, the flower is associated with portals between worlds. The Greeks meanwhile, attribute the flower to Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love. Some interpretations associate the columbine with foolishness & innocence due to it's shape matching that of a jester's hat. Modern meanings link this flower to Strength & Wisdom, with blue for calm, pink for happiness, and purple for success, and given to show the determination to win! And Monkshood, sometimes called aconite, wolfsbane, devil's helmet, has more ominous meanings. "Beware, a deadly foe is near." It is highly poisonous and deeply entrenched in myth and legend. In Greek myth it has been said to come from the drips of the fangs of Cerberus, guardian of the underworld. Unsurprisingly it means death in many places, but also caution and misanthropy. Perhaps perfect for a death good sneering at humans who commit murder? Lastly, the roses in their various colours. Purple for fascination, enchantment or wonder, blue for mystery & the impossible, and black for death & certainty.

a short and very incomplete list of some items that make me, a bisexual, unable to pay attention to whatever the fuck the characters are saying
The Potent Robe (and all the other robes in this style) on Gale. they make his shoulders go V. especially from a shorter PC's angle, where he looks tall and broad in addition to being just. so warm and infinitely kind, I mean come on now. Honorable mention to the jewel sitting right on top of his sternum and the intricate linework leading to it that just draws the eye to itself, so you kinda have to look at his titties.
Tumblr media
The silly stupid useless hats that should not look good on anyone, but make Astarion's li'l ears go < >, and it's unreasonably good, especially when he like. looks up from under the brim and under his lashes like that???? no. this man? this man is wearing a be-tassel'd bucket on his head. how is he still charming. this should not work and he has no right to be charming like this.
Tumblr media
The otherwise pretty ugly helmets that do nothing special beyond like adding +1 to STR saves and don't work on anyone really, except they Fuck Severely on Wyll, and Wyll only. this one? with his horns? it makes him look like some sort of gladiator, a wrathful Roman god of war and conquest, and what the fuck. i know just how polite and respectful he is, and the cognitive dissonance alone makes this weirdly hot.
Tumblr media
This camp outfit. With these piercings. And this snarl. On Karlach, because seriously what the hell. No, really. What is this. She, and I cannot stress this enough, looks like every single woman I've ever fallen briefly in desperate, heart-consuming, life-altering love with at any rock/metal show, only red and on fire, which is. also hot. Look at the way the lines of that top frame the glow of the engine, and the metal accents match her vents and hair disk thingies, I mean come on. This look is that of a woman who could (and should) whisk me away on her motorcycle.
Tumblr media
Ketheric's armor on Lae'zel. The shape language. The way the ridges of the teeth and the gold bit in the middle kind of mirror the edges of her ears. And the way the dark neckline meets and bleeds into the lines on her neck, and mirrors the lines on her face. The tarnished gold accents that match her complexion with the green complementing it so nicely. The power. The beauty. What a great look. A+. i'm doing whatever she says I should, which is a problem because she's literally asking me to make a deal with a devil.
Tumblr media
honestly just disrespectful, the lot of them

Also in terms of Viv being kinda goofy with Alastor - she went through ALLLLLL of this effort to be like 'nooooo guys he's creole!' 'he's mixed!' 'he's biracial!' 'he's a poc, i swear!' only to have the OFFICIAL leaked audition sheets say 'Any ethnicity.' Like, that's genuinely a slap in the face, especially as a mixed person myself. (To play devil's advocate though, I know that could be a note about the actor/not specifically how his character will be written, but Viv put a lot of effort during streams and stuff into saying "oh he's like half black" specifically, so to be like 'oh yeah, any ethnicity can play him' is kinda like HUH??????) I also think it's hilarious that you can tell that the audition sheets are real bc the ABSURD amount of typos and grammatical errors have Vivienne Medrano written ALL over it... even in terms of the song credits! As someone pointed out earlier, she credited a song as being "by Hello Dolly," and I checked Velvette's sheet again and she spelled the band "Little Mix" as "Lil' Mix" which first of all, is NOT the group's name, and secondly, is fully just misunderstanding how apostrophes work... like, how is this woman a writer?! (It should be 'Li'l Mix' if you wanna spell it that way, bc the apostrophe fills in the missing letters) Like, these are PROFESSIONAL audition sheets, how did anyone let these get through???
It's no wonder when those sheets first dropped, people couldn't believe they were real. But no, Vivzie really is that unprofessional.

NANCY VOICE LINE TRANSCRIPT 🥩
Tumblr media
I did it again. Based on this [x] video.
>Johnny's voicelines<
Notes:
• The game subtitles suck. I used them as a guide for some lines, but otherwise disregarded them.
• The line about about pregnancy has yet to activate for me in game. I think a few of these lines may be switched off.
• I collected the execution lines myself. They are not present in the linked video.
Thanks!
VOICELINES
Encounter start
How dare you attack me like this!
You little shit! How dare you!
Don't you touch me!
Get your filthy hands off my clean clothes!
[Grunts] You're gonna pay... Dearly for this.
Exit interaction
Ain't gonna be no escapin' today.
Just like a damn stranger. No respect for other people's property.
...There. That's better.
This will keep them from scurrying around.
I wish y'all would stop messin' with our damn belongin's. This damn thing's as old as dirt.
Grandpa fed
This house ran much better when you was runnin' things.
I always did like you.
You ain't lookin' too bad these days!

Next time I'll cook you a nice, proper meal.
Hidden victim found
Now what are you doin' in there?
[Laughs] Now this is just plain damn silly... Come on outta there.
We ain't playin' no hide and seek, you hear me?
What exactly is it you think you're doin' in there?
[Laughs] Oh, child, I'm snappier than you think.
Victim hit
This will slow you down!
[Laughs]
Does that. Hurt. Sweetie?!
Idle
Don't you think I know what you come here lookin' for?
My Harold always said: "If you can't do something right, don't do it at all." Now come get your punishment!
Just in case you was thinkin' a' doin' so, I'd stay out of my secret room if I was you.
It didn't have to be this way, ya know... You just had to come looking for that floozy of yours, didn'tcha?
My goodness... This is gettin' old real fast.
Lose Victim (first)
You ever been down to Devil's River? Oh, It's real nice... Maybe I'll show it to ya.
This type a' behavior tends to occur when you go moseying' around other people's homes!
Nobody ever said life was fair.
You ever hear the sayin' "murder starts in the heart"? I think my Johnny liked that girl.
I was pregnant six times, you know? I wanted a little baby so bad... Then God delivered Johnny. My own little angel.
Lose victim (sub)
Hard times is good for people. I know how to raise 'em... Just look at my Johnny!
I am a suitable mother! Don't you judge me!
Don't you EVER use that tone with me! Do you have any notion who you're talkin' to?
Your little friend had it coming... Looking at my Johnny that way. He's a sweet boy!
Do you know what happens to bodies when you plant 'em? [Laughs] They help the flowers real good!
Lose victim (long)
I haven't had a chase like this in some time.
Squirmin' li'l bastards! Where did you go?!
Just come on out now... Ain't no use in delayin' things.
I have all day, darlin'... You'll mess up soon enough.
Match start
[Sighs] We ain't big on unannounced guests. I ain't gonna take kindly to this trespassin'.
Don't worry, Johnny. I'll help you clean this mess up.
Oh, will you look at that... I didn't know we had visitors.
This is unacceptable behavior.
I ain't never seen such disrespectful behavior in all my life.
Cook seen
You are a damn fool! Always have been!
I thought you had this situation under control! This is unacceptable!
Will you tell them boys of yours to do somethin' already?
Don't you tell me how to raise my boy. Just do your job!
Would you make yourself useful already? ...My Lord!
Hitchhiker seen
You was raised better than this! Will you please go look after Grandpa?! Help him!
I hope you know our well-bein' ain't looking too promising right now?!
You better hope for your sake we get this sorted out!
Damn it, boy... I wish you would use that head of yours already... FIND. THEM.
Would you settle the hell down and help us already?
Johnny seen
Aw, Johnny, my sweet... Don't you worry about all this. We'll fix it... I promise.
Listen to me, Johnny. It's time to do what I taught you to do, okay? Can you do that? For me?
We gotta find them, sweetie. We can't let them leave. Do you understand me?
Just be patient, Johnny. We'll find 'em.
Remember them folks from Tulsa, Johnny? This is just like that. Just spread out and keep huntin'.
Leatherface seen
Well, don't just stand there! Let's see what that saw can do, boy!
You're doin' fine, sweetie.
Just keep lookin'. This will be over soon!
Don't worry about the others, now. Just keep doin' your job. Everything's fine.
Imma need you to find those kids right quick, okay? You can do this.
Grandma would be SO proud of you. Such a strong, handsome boy!
Sissy seen
How dare you use that tone with me, you little heathen!
Things were better off when you was gone. You shoulda kept it that way.
Don't you speak to me like that. You have no idea the things I've done for this family!
Don't you dare talk about my husbands like that. Devil girl.
I'd keep that poison away from me if I were you. You hear me, young lady?
See blood trail
Oh, my... Somebody's hurtin' real bad... Hmm.
Well look at that... Somebody's not doing so good.
THAT is a lot of blood... They gotta be around here somewhere.
[Chuckles]... Looks like we got you now. Let's see where this goes.
Aww, you ain't gonna last much longer, darlin'. I can see you ain't doin' so well.
Victim seen (first)
Oh hey there, sweet child. I can help ya. Just come over here.
Oh, don't leave! You're just in time for supper!
They gon' find that pretty little face of yours under my floorboard if you ain't careful.
You better stay outta my garden.
You will not disrespect our home like this, you hear me?

Looks like you peaked, child. You ain't gonna last much longer.
Poor thing... It's better if you just get this over quick-like. No use in struggling'.
Phew... Not quite my tempo. Glad to see that slowed you down.
See victim escape
Dear lord... This can't be happening. No!
Oh, damn it! I need to catch 'em... Think... THINK!
Oh, Lord, we are in the fire now! How did this happen?!
Ability use denied
[Sighs] Not now... This is simply too much to handle...
I can't... Not quite yet.
[Grunts] I can't do that right this minute.
Ugh, this isn't working!
Use ability
I'll find you... I promise.
Now where... Did... You... Go?
They couldn't've gone too far.
I know they're here... Somewhere...
Set trap
This oughta stop 'em.
Trap successful
Oh, I done got you now.
Got one.
There you are!
Well, I'll be. Look at what we have here.
Gotcha!
Execution
[Groans] We get what we deserve!
Now look what you've gotten yourself into! [Breathes heavily]
I told ya! Stay away from my Johnny! [Breathes heavily]
[Groans and breathes heavily]

Chainsaw Man ch. 5-12
Tumblr media
Ha ha! Look at this adorable li'l guy! Hell yeah!
Tumblr media
All right, so last time, Denji merged with Pochita (see above), and became Chainsaw Man. Well, his monster form with the chainsaws isn't actually named anything, at least not yet, but the comic is titled Chainsaw Man, so that's what I'm calling his chainsaw form.
Anyway, Denji was coerced into joining the Public Safety Devil Hunter Squad Directorate Organization Agency Conglomeration whatever. He's mainly in it for the food, shelter, and a possible chance of intimate relations with women. His boss, Makima orders him to go on a patrol with another teammate, Power.
Power is a fiend, which is a devil who has inhabited a human corpse. This is somehow different from the Pochita/Denji merger, but I'm not clear on the distinction yet. Power would seem to be on the supply side of devil hunting, but Makima seems to think she can make use of her, and Power is willing to play along, probably because Makima will kill her if she doesn't.
Tumblr media
At first, the two of them have trouble finding any devils in town, but then Power spots one and immediately destroys it with a big magic hammer. This was a bad call, because there was already a civilian devil hunter handling this devil, and apparently it's against the rules for devil hunters to jump each other's claims. Power tries to weasel out of the blame by telling Makima that Denji ordered her to do it, but Makima doesn't care. She just wants the two of them to get results. The "or else" is mostly implied at this point, but it's there.
Tumblr media
Fundamentally, these two just don't get along, and Power trying to throw Denji under the bus earlier just makes things work. But then Power explains that she can't get along with humans, and the only other creatures she likes are cats, like her pet Meowy. She says Meowy was captured by a devil and Power was recruited by Makima before she could recover the cat. But if Denji were willing to help get Meowy back, she would be willing to repay him by letting him touch her boobs.
Currently, that's Denji's main goal. Yeah, that's it. Second base. That's pathetic and all, but until recently his main goal was to have enough money to afford jam for his bread, so I'm pretty sure this is going somewhere.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Makima meets with her superiors, and vaguely reports that she's found two new recruits, one promising and one interesting. Aki disputes her assessment, as he finds Denji neither promising nor interesting, but Makima explains that his devil powers are based on chainsaws. Generally, devils have a power based on the scariness of their theme. There was a tomato devil back in chapter 1, and it probably wasn't all that dangerous. There's no scary mental image of tomatoes. I mean, there was the movie Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, but that was a comedy, and no one ever remembers that.
But chainsaws, well, they made an actual horror movie with that in the title, and everyone remembers Leatherface. Oh, actually, this is the 50th anniversary of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. See, that's staying power, and that's the kind of power Makima is interested in.
Also, Power, the fiend literally named after power. I have to assume Makima's interested in her as well, for one reason or another.
Tumblr media
Back to Denji and Power, she leads him to some spooky barn or something where the Bat Devil is holding her cat hostage. She had a plan on the way over, but then she forgets it as they head for the door, and so she knocks out Denji with a hammer. Power's supposed to be a Blood Devil, so I don't understand the hammer thing. She seems to be able to make them out of thin air, so maybe she's making them out of blood? I dunno.
Tumblr media
Power was mostly telling the truth, except she never intended to fight the Bat Devil. She just wanted to lure Denji here so she could feed him to the Bat Devil. In return, the Bat Devil said he would give her back her cat. Why doesn't this guy just hunt down his own victims? Well, one of his arms got lopped off at some point, so he needs human blood to regenerate it, and he probably doesn't want to risk hunting a human while he's injured. Instead, he captured Power's cat and used it as a hostage to force her to do his dirty work. So here we are.
Tumblr media
Why did Power get attached to a cat in the first place? Well, she found one in the woods and decided she should fatten it up before eating it, but while she was doing that, she wound up becoming fond for the li'l guy.
Tumblr media
But the Bat Demon won't honor his bargain, because even though drinking Denji's blood regenerates his wing, it tastes bad because of Denji's part-devil nature. So he swallows the cage with Meowy in it, and then eats Power too? Okay...
Bat Devil decides to go hunting some tastier victims to cleanse his palate, and now that his wing his restored, he's all set... except he forgot one thing.
Tumblr media
Boobs. No wait, I meant chainsaws. No... hold on. "Boobs" was right? In spite of Power's betrayal, Denji still thinks he can save the cat and get the reward she promised him. He grabs onto the Bat Devil and sucks his blood, which I guess heals him up enough to continue this fight. Bat Devil's like "What the hell do you want, anyway," and Denji's like...
Tumblr media
So yeah, there's a certain touch to this that I really enjoy. The monsters in this story seem to be a lot more rational than Chainsaw Man, and when he goes apeshit on them, they start to wonder just what the hell they've gotten themselves into.
I've had to hear about Lovecraftian horrors for much of my life, how Cthulhu and his ilk are so impossibly powerful and scary, and if you even looked at them too long you'd go mad from the dread or whatever. I'm a bigger fan of Robert E. Howard stories, where Conan will run into some eldritch horror and just attack it like he would a wolf or a bear. It's like the man said: If it bleeds, we can kill it.
On the other hand, I like the notion of a creature so alien and with motives so incomprehensible that it cannot be perceived by the rational mind. That's a fun idea, but it's wasted on Yog-Sothoth. No, it's a lot more fun when the hero is the one who's beyond understanding, and the monsters he slays are left utterly baffled.
Bat Devil's like "What the fuck, dude? I'm just a despicable creature trying to drink blood to sustain my unholy existence. Why won't you leave me alone?"
And Denji's just like "booOoOoooObS" and there's no answer for that. Bat Devil can't give him boobs, he can't take another hostage. If he kills Power, Denji would just kill Bat Devil anyway for revenge. There's no way out of this because Denji's motives make no fucking sense. To him anyway. Boobs are pretty awesome.
Tumblr media
Also, Denji's not exactly thinking straight. Bat Devil tries to throw a car at him as a distraction, but Denji catches it and chucks it back at him. I'm pretty sure he knows better, but he's too upset to care, and that must surely send a chill down Bat Devil's spine. I dig this sort of thing.
Tumblr media
So Denji finally disembowels the Bat Devil and rescues Power and Meowy. She's like "What could possibly have made you go so far to rescue me after I betrayed you?" And he just points at her chest. And since Meowy survived, Power says she's hold up her end of the deal.
Tumblr media
Well, except this thing suddenly showed up and cut off one of Denji's arms. Good luck touching boobs now, idiot.
Tumblr media
This is a Leech Devil, and she says Bat Devil was her boyfriend. I don't know how she happened to be in the area when this fight happened, or how she snuck up on these two, so I'm going to assume that she was inside the Bat Devil's rectum the whole time. It's some freaky-deaky sex act, just get all crammed up inside your partner's rectum. Anyway, Denji tries to transform again, but he's worn out, and he only changes part way. The Leech Devil offers to let him go, but she intends to kill Power and the cat, so Denji's like "Let's dance, bitch."
Tumblr media
Denji gets a few hits in, but he can't last long, and just as the Leech Devil is about to eat him...
Tumblr media
Aki shows up and does the Too-Sweet gesture. Has he joined Bullet Club? Probably, because Bullet Club sucks these days and so does Aki. Well, actually, this is how he summons his demon familiar or whatever it is. It eats the leech devil and saves Denji.
Tumblr media
Later, Denji's arm grows back when he gets a blood transfusion, and Aki explains to him that he's not friends with this Fox Devil thing. He borrows its power in exchange for feeding it parts of his body. It's a contract, similar to the contract Denji and Pochita made in chapter 1.
Tumblr media
Aki loathes devils, and resents Denji for not hating them just as much, and for having shallow motives for being a devil hunter, but he believes he can accept this if Denji agrees to follow his orders. Also, Aki covers up all the civilians Denji put in harm's way during that battle.
Tumblr media
Denji agrees, and one of the other Devil Hunters asks Aki if this is wise. He seems to be going to great lengths to protect Denji and Power, and if they screw up, it'll be his ass. But Aki insists that he's simply using Power and Denji to achieve their primary goal: hunting devils. He has no intention of befriending either of them.
Tumblr media
But he does have to live with them, because Makima orders them to live with Aki. Aki asks why and she says she trusts Aki more than anyone, and he accepts this pretty readily.
Tumblr media
Later, Power finally gives Denji his payment for saving Meowy. She agrees to give him three squeezes.
Tumblr media
On the first one, Denji winds up causing her breast pads to fall out. I'm not against her wearing the things, but I feel like that first squeeze shouldn't count if all he got was padding. He could buy one of those himself and go to town if that's all he was after.
Tumblr media
Two and three go pretty uneventfully, and Power seems pretty pleased with the transaction. She has her cat, so she has no reason to continue hunting devils, but she can't escape Makima, so she'll just carry on and help Denji from here on out. Well that's nice.
But for Denji, the whole thing seems kind of anticlimactic... because... it was.
Tumblr media
Later, while Makima walks him through paperwork, Denji confides in her that he achieved a dream he'd had for a while, only to discover the fulfillment of the dream felt empty. Like the Vulcan once said: "[H]aving is not so pleasing a thing as wanting. It is not logical, but it is often true."
The hollow feeling of touching Power's boobs isn't such a bad thing in itself, but Denji is now worried that this will be how it goes every time. What if every dream he chases turns out like this?
Tumblr media
He finally admits to Makima that this is about touching boobs, and she explains that physical intimacy kind of depends on... well, intimacy. You have to get to know your partner, at least physically, and take your time, or otherwise there's no enjoyment.
I'm not sure if Makima knows Denji touched Power's boobs, or how that went down, but it's probably not hard to guess that it was a cold, sterile experience. Power's not even human, so it's unclear if she even cared about doing it. And she just sat on a toilet and let him do his thing. Come to think of it, that's probably why the pads were in that scene. I said that first squeeze shouldn't count, but the second and third kind of don't count either, because Denji didn't enjoy the flesh any more than the padding.
By contrast, this panel of Makima putting Denji's hand on her ear is a lot more thrilling. It's pretty dumb on paper, and it's kind of creepy when it's Makima doing it, but she also makes it seem like a truly romantic gesture. I wish some lady would let me fondle her left ear.
Tumblr media
So when all of that is set up, Makima then puts his hand on her boob, and that actually excites Denji, because she built up to it. I'm pretty sure this isn't appropriate for one reason or another, but I'm not here to consider the morality of Makima's actions in this scene. Her observation on the nature of intimacy, is spot on, even if she really shouldn't be demonstrating it like this in the workplace.
Tumblr media
And after all of this, Makima asks Denji for a favor: defeat the Gun Devil. It's a really powerful devil that's worth a lot of money or something, and Makima thinks Denji can take him. All she needs is to get him properly motivated, which is probably what this scene was all about.
Tumblr media
And if he succeeds, Makima offers to grant him any one wish. I kind of don't believe they can do Third Base in a manga like this. Maybe he'll wish for his own desk instead.

THOUGHTS WHILE WATCHING GILMORE GIRLS: S3/EP6: TAKE THE DEVILED EGGS (Pt 2) (This One's Gonna Be a Real Rage Inducer) (Lots Of Interesting Development Though) (So many things happening) (Salty Rambles about Jess Mariano's Birthday)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is something to be said about Luke (on multiple occasions) readily admitting he pays Jess in ketchup packets to toil in the Coffee Mines more or less against his will. I get that it's just a part time job after school...before school..while he's cutting school..always working...never stopping...never reicieving any tips from Lorelai and Rory... Rory needs a job... Rory and Lorelai need to pay for their food... Anyway these comments shed a light on the shaky economies of small businesses in small towns which is interesting to me. Gilmore Girls is really, at it's core, a show about class. One day he could wake up to find his diner has been turned into a Dunkin Donuts (this is Not-Quite-But-Almost-New England after all, where DD is king).
Tumblr media
Hahahahaha!! Jess stole money to buy a car and he committs attempted murder! Hahahahaaha! You're SO FUNNY LORELAI GILMORE. Your daughter stole a boat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah. And maybe back home, he did had to steal to survive sometimes. How about them apples, Lorelai Gilmore. God, do I loathe her.
Tumblr media
Don't say that around Lorelai, I think she'd believe you were being serious.
Tumblr media
A couple of the moots and I recently decided that in the recent past, Liz managed to land and then lose a halfway decent boyfriend/ father figure to Jess who had a car and taught Jess to drive and do repairs and some other light adulting. I honestly feel like this is the only thing that makes sense.
Tumblr media
HE LOOKS SO GOOD IN THIS SCENE!!! Fuck meeee. Look at that li'l curl...
Tumblr media
LOOK AT IT!!!! You know what, I'm calling it. I'm putting my foot down. This is the hottest Milo had ever looked in the entirety of seasons 2 and 3. It's that perfectly gelled hair, the jean jacket, the cool tshirt. Very James Dean. Woof. Let's see, what would I choose for second place? I have to go with the party scene in KegMax, another episode with impeccably jelled hair and a jean jacket (and even while he was apparently sick shooting that episode too). He just progresses in hotness the further season 3 marches on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These four words "I'm still a minor" are a point of contention for me in the ongoing debate about his birth month. My beliefs: Jess is a Virgo. He was born in August or early September. This would make him just older than Rory by just a smidge. Since well over a year has passed in the show since the episode he arrived in Stars Hollow as a 17 year old (when he arrived, it was early September as Rory had just started school in that episode), he had just celebrated his birthday before arriving and so he has to have already turned 18 by this episode. However, I will consider the theory that Luke was clueless or misinformed about his age at the time he arrived (because it's not like LIz is in any way reliable with information) and he was actually 16 going on 17 when he hopped off the bus last year, and maybe he has an October or November birthday making him slightly younger than Rory. It would make sense that both missed the kindergarten cut off dates in 1989 at their respective schools (which is rock solid canon already for Rory, as she was born in October 84 but graduated in 03 instead of 02), putting them in the same grade.
Salty has put a pathetic amount of thought into this. So, how can I accept this statemen? I attribute it to the same brand of biting sarcasm that gave us "I mugged an old lady" moments ago and also because this scene doesn't make a whole lot of sense to begin with. He's still a minor, but he got his own insurance all by himself under his own name, which is not really a thing, but not his own car registration? Committing insurance fraud perhaps? Sketchy insurance company that didn't ask too many questions? He knows a guy who knows a guy who can print up some fake documents? At that point why not go all the way with the white collar crimes and forge Luke's signature on the registration too? See, Lorelai thinks Jess is a thief and murderer when he's really a white collar criminal like Taylor Doose.
Tumblr media
My memory was certain that he produced a cigarrette and not a pen in this scene. I had to edit this post to remove a line about him smoking. I guess I confused it with the Then She Appears/ Cmurrh kissing scene, where he's also wearing a jean jacket with a popped collar. Damn. I can't wait for that scene...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just some light fraud. If the car belonged to someone in Stars Hollow, whoever's registration he stole probably deserved it anyway. This is how I approach all "Crimes" Jess commits in Stars Hollow. There are only a few people who don't deserve it. Your honor, my client is innocent.
Tumblr media
Oh no, the couch of doom. No good conversations ever happens between Rory and Lorelai on the couch, especially after one of them comes home at night and finds the other one on the couch. The Gilmores recieve an invitation to Sherry's baby shower. The moots and I have determined that Doula and Gigi will eventually band together to form the most powerful duo of neglected half sisters the world has ever seen. For the record, today Doula would be 17 and Gigi would be 21. Since Jess eventually comes to adopt and raises Doula she has a somewhat decent chance of coming out a well adjusted adult. At the very least, if she was stuck with TJ and Liz, Jess would still be a positive influence on her life, visit her and look out for her and make sure she didn't get sucked into any cults. The odds are a lot more grim for Gigi with Crusty and Sherry as her forever "parents" and let's face it, very likely her relationship with big sister Rory or any of the other Gilmores is non existent.
Tumblr media
And things were so peaceful. Especially since Dean hasn't reared his ugly head in the last two episodes, either.
Tumblr media
You flip flop with Crusty so much how can anyone possibly keep track of whether you're on the outs with him or banging him at any given time?
Tumblr media
And by saying that out loud you're gonna tip the balance of the universe and he's going to show up. I looked ahead and although this is sadly still a Crusty-Focused episode, he doesn't actually make an appearance. Small blessings. To Lorelai's surprise, Rory admits that she's been in contact with Crusty and Lorelai is okay with it but upset that Rory was hiding it from her. God, he's such a parasite.
Tumblr media
Emails. How quaint.
Tumblr media
Highly debatable.

Sentient Monsters/Enemies in Zelda
People seemed to enjoy my last list so I'm going to touch on probably one of my favorite topics in LOZ! I'm mostly focusing on monsters and enemies that are shown to be not completely affiliated with any sort of Big Bad or are demonstrably capable of speech or independent thought but I'll also be including other enemies and monsters. I'm not going to really include bosses unless I find it necessary (hence the lack of Maz Koshia, Gohdan, Byrne, Bellumbeck, etc) As usual, I may touch headcanon territory a little, and I'll happily take any corrections/suggestions and reblog them!
...Actually I might just edit the post, not sure.
This contains gameplay spoilers for...a lot of Zelda games, so please proceed with caution!
Ache
Batlike enemies from The Adventure of Link. They are usually hostile, and will disguise themselves as villagers, revealing their disguise if spoken to. There is a friendly Ache that can be found in the Town of Nabooru that Link can speak to.
Batreaux
A reformed demon from Skyward Sword who has a secret house on Skyloft. He expresses a desire to become human, and requests that Link bring Gratitude Crystals to him so he can become one.
Bulblin
Namely King Bulblin, but I personally think this applies to regular Bublins as well. Throughout Twilight Princess you fight King Bulblin in various boss fights, but he always retreats before Link can kill him. In your final battle with him, he finally speaks, claiming that he "always follows the strongest side," before leaving and dropping a key to the inside of Hyrule Castle. Bulblins in general are shown to be fairly intelligent, riding on large boars called Bulbos and Twilit Kargaroks, creating structures, and cooking food.
Dark World Creatures
Many of inhabitants of the Dark World in A Link to the Past are heavily implied to be people who sought after the Triforce but were trapped upon entering the Dark World and transformed into monsters according to their true nature. These creatures can be aggressive at the start, seem initially friendly and attack you later, like Blind the thief, or can be completely passive.
Deku Scrub
These are plantlike creatures that spit out seeds to attack. In Ocarina of Time, Deku Scrubs seem to have made an allegiance with the first boss, Gohma. When attacked, they will surrender and either give you information or sell you items. In Majora's Mask, not only can Link transform into a Deku Scrub, but there is a Deku Scrub palace to be explored. Like in Ocarina of Time, Deku Scrubs are hostile to outsiders, and will refuse to let Link into the palace if he is not in Deku Scrub form. In Minish Cap, a sick Deku Scrub blocks the way by sneezing out seeds at Link and Zelda.
Garo
The Garo from Majora's Mask are a tribe of undead, ninja-like hooded creatures. They reside in the Kingdom of Ikana, though they're not originally from there, and will only appear to Link if he is wearing the Garo Mask. At some time in the past, the Garo came to Ikana Valley as assassins, but like most Ikana residents they were killed and their ghosts linger around the area.
Goriya
A slightly more obscure enemy from the original Legend of Zelda, Zelda II, Link's Awakening, and the Oracle Games. Goriya are moblin-like creatures that attack with a boomerang. In the original Legend of Zelda, a hungry Goriya blocks a door in a dungeon. In Link's Awakening, there is a hidden friendly Goriya that can only be seen using the Magnifying Glass, similar to the friendly River Zora.
Iron Knuckle
Armored enemies in Zelda II and Ocarina of Time, serving as minibosses of the Spirit Temple in the latter. In the last room of the Spirit Temple, the Twinrova control Nabooru, the Sage of Spirit, and force her to fight Link as an Iron Knuckle. Looking closely at the ordinary Iron Knuckle model reveals a Gerudo face inside, so many people believe that the other Iron Knuckles Link fights are also possessed or evil Gerudo.
Mad Batter/Li'l Devil
A batlike creature from A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening that lives in an underground cavern. Link can disturb him by tossing Magic Powder at a statue, where he will become angry and "curse" Link by giving him a magic upgrade.
Moblin
Featured in the original Legend of Zelda, Moblins are one of the quintessential enemies in the Zelda series. They have been shown multiple times to be capable of speech and seem to be able to defect from Ganon's horde in some instances. The original game also contains the first instance of a friendly monster in Zelda, the famous "it's a secret to everyone" Moblin. In the Wind Waker, a girl named Maggie has fallen in love with one of the Moblins in Forsaken Fortress, and sends a letter to him. Moe the Moblin sends a letter back, proving that Moblins are not only capable of speech, but probably writing.
Phantom
Guardians of the Tower of Spirits in Spirit Tracks and invaders of the Temple of the Ocean King in Phantom Hourglass. Phantoms are highly intelligent enemies that will chase Link down, and are capable of speech. In Spirit Tracks, Phantom Zelda can converse with them to distract them while Link makes his way through the Tower of Spirits.
River Zora
River Zora are featured in the original Legend of Zelda, a Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, A Link Between Worlds, Oracle of Ages, and Phantom Hourglass. River Zora are highly territorial creatures that inhabit bodies of water in most of the games they are featured in. They will usually shoot fireballs at Link and dive under the water if confronted. However, in many games, there are several Zora who will not attack you and may give you helpful items. In A Link to the Past, Link can speak to King Zora to get the Zora Flippers. In Link's Awakening, there is a secret friendly Zora that can be seen after Link has obtained the Magnifying Glass. In A Link Between Worlds, the Zora Queen Oren will give you the Zora Flippers.
Soldier
Hylian Soldiers have a long history of either getting possessed, turning evil, or being extremely incompetent in the Zelda series, and A Link to the Past is probably what started it. Soldiers are the primary enemy fought in the Light World, and are friendly to Link at the beginning of the game, telling Link to go home to bed on such a rainy night. One soldier mentions that they have noticed something strange about the other soldiers, and expects that they will soon succumb to whatever is possessing them. This is of course Agahnim, an evil magician and Ganon in disguise.
Stalchildren/Stalfos
Featured in almost every game in the series, Stalfos are undead skeleton-like enemies. Stalchildren are weaker, more common enemies that are featured in Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. Ordinarily Stalchildren will attack you in Majora's Mask, however if you wear the Captain's Hat—the hat of their leader, Skull Keeta—they will talk to you, and give you access to secret underground areas each night. Stalchildren, like the Garo, are also one of the undead races from Ikana Valley, and their king can be fought there.
Yiga
(they get a shoutout cause I love them. mwah)
Featured in Breath of the Wild, the Yiga Clan are an offshoot of the Sheikah Tribe that separated ten thousand years before the events of Breath of the Wild. After Calamity Ganon emerged for the first time and was destroyed with the help of Ancient Sheikah technology, the Royal Family turned their backs on the people who helped them, forcing them to abandon their work. The Sheikah went into hiding, but some of them fought back. This group became known as the Yiga Clan, and they are well known for their affinity to Calamity Ganon and their murderous tendencies. Dorian was originally a member of the Yiga Clan, and served as an informant to them for some time.

li'l except from my incredibly self-indulgent snowed-in fic, for which the entire premise is "what if everyone had to shelter from the elements in the buildings and it turned into a big chaotic sleepover". because "crisis" just wasn't enough for me. in this scene, hawkeye and trapper have their cots pushed up next to each other and are trying to bunk down for the night
this is dedicated to @thebreakfastgenie, who made me so sad with her previous and in-progress contributions to the "make hawkeye pierce suffer" collection of literature that it inspired me to work on this
-
Hawkeye tosses and turns and tosses. Then turns again, for good measure.
Trapper elbows him from the next cot over. “Will you cut that out? Every time you move, my blankets get tugged off and I get a draft.”
“I’m hoping the friction will warm me up.” Hawkeye wriggles around some more and frowns. “I feel like a rotisserie chicken.”
“Well, knock it off,” hisses Trapper. “I had myself all tucked in before you started trying out for the log rolling contest as one of the logs.”
“I can’t help it, I’m freezing!”
“Oh, for the love of–” Trapper does an awkward horizontal shuffle across his cot and half onto Hawkeye's, careful not to jostle them apart, and tosses his blankets across Hawkeye. He then lifts the edge of Hawkeye’s blankets and crawls underneath, tucking himself against Hawkeye’s back. “There, are ya happy now? We can share blankets and body heat. Now will ya stop moving around?”
For a moment, Hawkeye is too stunned to speak. Then, a broad smile spreads across his face. “You devil. If you were so desperate to get into bed with me, you could have just said so.”
Trapper flings an arm over him and tugs him more firmly into his chest. “Shush. Sleep time now.”
A moment’s silence, and then:
“An’ stop smiling so loud. It’s keeping me awake.”
Hawkeye never has been good at following orders. He drifts off to sleep with a smile still on his face, secure in the knowledge that he is safe and held and loved, and finally, finally warm.

Just a li'l intro post
Welcome to my Hannibal blog! It wasn't always this way, but it is now and oh man is it gonna stay that way. (@devils-musings is my personal chaos sideblog, if anyone's curious...)
And who am I? Just some guy (he/they, 30s) who writes things, engages in gender fuckery, and has my horse hitched to a post on the spectrum.
Say hi, if you'd like. :)

The List of BG3 OC's... so far
Tumblr media
Resist-o-Durge: Oona, The Ghost Spider of Bhaal Szarkai Cleric of Eilistraee/Monk
Born of a ritual where an Underdark cult force-fed the flesh of Bhaal to a drider. She was then unceremoniously dumped above ground at the doors of an Eilistraeean church. Oona grew up with love, compassion, and a firm belief in redemption no matter the crime.
When the Slayer came for her, she razed the Church to the ground after murdering everybody inside.
Canon: Loves Gale Besties w/ Shadowheart & Astarion Hasn't killed any of the named drow. Nere, Drouin, Araj, Minty... all safe!
Tumblr media
Yes that includes "he's drow enough" Kar'niss. She just knocked him out, dragged him somewhere safe, and left a moonlantern beside him for when he came to.
Crazy Fanon: Has a li'l Gortling daughter. I imagine the reunion would be Gortash bringing her to his office after she gets rid of Orin and being like "I mean you could kill me instead of helping me, but wow that would really upset OUR CHILD." Oona doesn't know this but the baby is exactly what caused her to rethink her Absolute plans. She didn't want to destroy the world for Father anymore, she wanted the world to be worthy of her Gortling! And maybe she could convince bae to just settle for Archduke of Baldur's Gate! She went to Moonrise Towers to talk to Ketheric about her second thoughts since she felt he'd be most apt to listen whether or not he agreed.
And that's when Orin struck.
Next, ANOTHER DURGE!
Tumblr media
Embrace the Durge (for now): Edeva the Black Tiefling Rogue/Assassin
I wanted to do a tiefling version of Origin Durge, I just love the creepy white and red look. I don't know her background yet, I just know she has one rule: TIEFLINGS ARE OFF LIMITS. Everyone else is fair game, but when she walked in on Lump the Enlightened eating a tiefling, she went berserk. She also did not allow Lae'zel to be mean to Zorru.
But those Gnolls... were SO COOL.
Tumblr media
Anyway, here's what I have of her: Canon: Crushing on Karlach, no besties yet :( unless you count Sceleritas Fel? Does NOT like Raphael, very much scared of him, even though she's the one who gets that good Devil-D in all my RaphxTav fanfics ^^;; Crazy Fanon: She's Orin's #1 hype gal, believes in her art skills, beat the absolute snot out of Sarevok for, as she puts it, "being mean to my girl". I figure, Sarevok is the driving force behind manipulating Orin into replacing Eva as Chosen because the thinks this Absolute Cult stuff is a waste of time and he feels Bhaal has better uses for Edeva.
Tumblr media
My very first Tav, Meadowlark High Elf Druid/Circle of Spores
She's a Bard and a Druid, a happy woman with an 8 year old son who was playing with friends when the Nautiloid showed up. She hopes her kid's ok, neither one of them expected her to be kidnapped and tadpole'd. She did send word via the grove that she was alive and getting home ASAP.
She's giving me wicked Mommy vibes, which is why I felt she should have a child already. No romantic prospects at the moment with how badly she mother-hens her companions. She's especially protective of Lae'zel because of the gith's youth and naiveté.
That being said, she's crushing heavily on Barcus Wroot, and she hasn't met fellow druid Halsin yet...
Tumblr media
Funny thing is, she's inspired by someone else's character! A long time ago I was in a Dragon Age fanart group on FB and someone created a mage named Meadowlark. The inspo pic the person used was of an absolutely gorgeous Turkish model. When I saw this face mod (Vamperen's Head's 2.0 I believe) I thought "omg that looks like Meadowlark!" and decided to make her a Tav.
Crazy Fanon: Her son is still in Baldur's Gate waiting for her... just not at home... :/

Chainsaw Man ch.71-74
Tumblr media
Awww, he got himself a li'l treat!
Tumblr media
So this is the aftermath of the whole Germany's Santa Claus arc, and I'm still kind of reeling from that brief stop in hell that happened in the middle of it. Makima was able to bring the main cast back, but we really only saw her, Denji, and Quanxi in all of that. At one point, Denji asked what happened to Power and the rest, and we didn't really get an answer.
Here, we finally find out. I just assumed everyone came back from hell without the damage they sustained there. I'm not sure why I thought that, except that Makima took a sword to the gut as she got them all back to Earth, and she didn't seem to have that wound when she returned. Denji was back to normal, but that probably doesn't mean anything. Likewise, Quanxi was still decapitated, but that didn't slow her down much. Her two minions were shown to be dead, but so much was going on that I didn't notice.
I guess I mostly assumed the damage done by the Darkness Devil wouldn't "count", because the very first thing he did was remove everyone's arms, and that just seems like the sort of thing you'd only do in a dream sequence, or some scenario with an "undo". But no. Aki returned to Earth with his arms still removed. Apparently his arms came back with him, and somehow one of them could be reattached, but not the other. That raises more question than answers, honestly.
Angel Devil returned the same way, except neither of his arms could be reattached. As for Violence Fiend and Beam the Shark Fiend, well they're just dead. The Spider Fiend was also there, but Aki doesn't mention her, and it's possible he never knew she was there. I already mentioned Quanxi and her companions, and that just leaves Kobeni, who resigned from Public Safety. No word on her physical condition.
No, wait. I forgot about Power. She seems to be fine, except she's deeply traumatized by the whole experience. I get the sense that the overwhelming power of the Darkness Devil just got to her, and she's constantly terrified that he's lurking in the shadows, ready to finish her off at any moment.
Tumblr media
At some point during Aki's convalescence, Makima suggested that she and Denji could still go on that trip to Enoshima by themselves, but Denji decides he can't do it, because Power's a nervous wreck and he doesn't feel right leaving her alone.
Tumblr media
We get a lot of scenes of Denji taking care of Power and just kind of being there for her. Once Aki gets back on his feet, he helps, and the two of them just sort of help her work through this. Power's kind of an odd duck, but I don't think there's anything unusual about her recovery. She just needs to put some temporal distance between herself and what happened. Gradually, she gets more and more comfortable with the idea that Darkness Devil isn't going to get her. The important thing in all of this is that Denji and Aki are supporting her through the process, feeding her and bathing with her as needed. Aki once despised her for being a devil, and Denji once found her barely useful at best, so things have come a long way for the three of them.
One night Power offers to let Denji drink her blood, which I guess is sort of a gesture of goodwill between devils and/or fiends, since they use blood to regenerate. Denji hesitates, but she really wants him to do it, so he does, and considers how this is extremely intimate but not romantic or sexual at all. His realtionship with Power has deepened considerably, but they're not a couple or fuckbuddies or anything like that.
Tumblr media
Later on, Aki goes on a trip to his family's grave in Hokkaido. Denji and Power invite themselves along and act like huge dorks the whole time. Aki is dismayed, but he later admits that their presence distracted him from his malaise, so that's a plus.
Tumblr media
Upon his return he has lunch with Captain Kishibe, and asks if his group can be kept out of the upcoming final battle with the Gun Devil. Kishibe seems supportive, but reminds Aki that he's wanted to be in on this from the beginning of his career in Public Safety. If he bows out now, he'll never find out what happened, because the Gun Devil's location, status, and ultimate fate will be kept top secret.
Tumblr media
But Aki's mind is made up. He seems worried about Denji and Power getting killed in the battle, which isn't too surprising because he's seen Himeno die before his eyes, and all those other characters who died fighting Reze, Germany's Santa Claus, and the Darkness Devil. I suppose the only reason he's not worried about Angel Devil right now is because Angel Devil can't be in the fight because he's got no arms.
Tumblr media
One day, they're all taking a nap together, and Aki points out that Power stopped screaming in the middle of the night. Power makes up some bullshit lie about defeating the Darkness Devil when they were in hell, and it seems like she's finally getting back to her old self.
Tumblr media
They get summoned to Makima's office where she addresses Aki's request to be left out of the Gun Devil campaign. She has no problem with Aki bowing out, but Denji and Power will definitely be participating, because they're devils placed in Makima's custody. More importantly, Denji and Power are cool with this battle. Denji will get a wish from Makima if he wins, and Power is Denji's buddy, and she's ready to back him up. So Aki changes his mind again. He's back in for the Gun Devil battle, because this is the only way he can be there for his pals.
Tumblr media
With that settled, Makima briefs them on the Gun Devil's whereabouts and status. Turns out he's already been defeated! Well that was easy. Great job, team!
Yeah, so the Gun Devil killed over a million people across multiple locations in a span of about five minutes, and apparently he was defeated by "someone else" shortly after that. The Soviets found him unconscious later on. The thing is that the Gun Devil left a lot of his own flesh behind in the wake of his attacks. Public Safety has been collecting those chunks of flesh in an attempt to track down the Gun Devil, and various lesser devils have eaten some of the flesh to empower themselves. Well, every other country has been collecting their own Gun Devil flesh for similar reasons. 59% of the Gun Devil flesh is controlled by the U.S.A., Soviet Union, and China.
Aki is flabbergasted. If the Gun Devil's already beaten, then his entire career as a Devil Hunter was for nothing. But what about those Yazuka assassins who attacked Public Safety about thirty chapters ago? They bought their guns from the Gun Devil, didn't they?
Tumblr media
Makima explains that they didn't. They just got them from human gun manufacturers, like everyone else. But the gun control laws are far too strict for that, right? Apparently Aki finds it easier to believe that the Gun Devil has magic arms dealer powers than the idea that a bunch of gangsters bought illegal firearms without getting caught.
Makima goes one step further, and suggests that the guns were supplied by the very governments that heavily regulate their manufacture. If she's right, then the Yazuka attack on Public Safety was arranged by one or more rival nations, just like all the assassins like Quanxi and Santa in the previous arc.
Aki is horrified to hear this, because the whole point of the gun control laws was to weaken the Gun Devil, so that those tragic attacks could never happen again. If the world's governments are distributing guns in secret, then fear of guns will persist, and the Gun Devil will grow stronger. And since so much of the Gun Devil's flesh is controlled by humans, the potency of that flesh will only increase.
So the real point of this upcoming battle is not to defeat the Gun Devil, but to secure all of the Gun Devil's flesh, so that other countries can't use it against Japan. The Gun Devil isn't the enemy, he's the prize. And since it's just humans battling over control of the prize, then this is just a war.
Tumblr media
Later, Aki realizes the darker truth of all of this. Even if Japan wins this conflict and gets sole control of the Gun Devil's flesh, they won't destroy the Gun Devil to end the threat he poses to the world. The power is too valuable to give up, so Japan will simply keep the Gun Devil's body in custody, to use against anyone who threatens their interests.
The same would hold true if any other country emerges victorious. Or if it's a stalemate and the Gun Devil flesh is still held by multiple world powers, it's all the same outcome. The Gun Devil will never be killed this way. He'll live on forever, constantly protected by whoever possesses his flesh. And his victims, including Aki's family, will never be avenged.
Tumblr media
Denji's a little slow on the uptake, but he realizes that this means Makima will never grant that wish she promised him.
Tumblr media
Aki takes all of this pretty hard. He seems to be getting past the need for revenge that motivated him at the beginning of this series, but now he realizes that it will forever be denied to him, which is pretty tough to accept. And while he's found his friendship with Denji and Power to be a source of consolation, he's worried that he'll lose them too, because they're bound to fight in this upcoming conflict. Then he has a disturbing vision brought on by the Future Devil. He asks the Future Devil if the vision was a prophecy, and the Future Devil confirms it. He promises Aki that he and Power will be slaughtered by Denji, and then the "Devil that devils fear most" will appear.
Tumblr media
So Aki goes to see the Angel Devil, I guess because he doesn't know who else to talk to. He's pretty sure Angel isn't long for this world. Having no arms, Angel can't hunt Devils in the field, and Public Safety won't have much use for him otherwise, so they'll probably kill him. Aki writes a letter recommending that Angel be kept alive in that bunker where they keep other Devils for contracts and what not, but this is all he can do.
Moved by the gesture, Angel offers to help Aki try to get to the bottom of the vision he saw, and he suggests they talk to Makima about it, since it almost certainly ties in with the Gun Devil campaign. On the way, Angel points out that Aki can always resign from Public Safety and run away from all of this to enjoy his final years in peace, but Aki refuses. Angel realizes that he's in love with Makima, and asks why he fell for her. Turns out Aki himself doesn't know the reason.
Tumblr media
When they meet Makima, Aki explains how worried he is about Denji and Power, and begs Makima to help him find a devil contract that will help him resolve this. So Makima suggests that Aki make a contract with her. Wait, did I say "suggest"? Makima orders him to to it.
So Makima is a devil herself? It's not quite clear yet, but this wouldn't be much of a surprise. The series had been hinting all along that she's not what she seems, and she's probably not a good guy. My working theory so far is that Makima is the Gun Devil, and nothing in this installment really contradicts it. She says the Gun Devil was already defeated, but if she's secretly the Gun Devil herself, then of course she would make up a lie like that.
Mostly, I think she's the Gun Devil because we've learned so little about Makima and the Gun Devil so far, and so it would make sense if both puzzles are actually part of the same picture. The truth might end up being more complicated than that, but I definitely think I'm onto something.
Tumblr media
When Makima orders Aki to make a contract with her, Angel suddenly recalls a memory of when he first met Makima. He had forgotten it until now, but back in the day, he was taken in by a village somewhere and felt truly welcomed by humans for the first time. Then Makima showed up and asked Angel to show her his power. No, she ordered him, just like she's ordering Aki now. And the next thing Angel knew, it was suddenly hours later, and he had demonstrated his power to Makima by draining the life force of all his friends on the island.
So now it seems clear that Makima is a villain, right? Kishibe suggested earlier that she had done horrible things for the good of humanity, but there's no longer an end goal that helps humanity, is there? She's not trying to defeat the Gun Devil, because that's already been done. She's been using all of her subordinates, and I'm pretty sure she's made a lot of them fall in love with her or something.
The one saving grace is that she seems chill when human Devil Hunters resign, but something tells me she does something horrible to them off-panel, and we're about to see some chamber of horrors somewhere with Kobeni and all the other ex-Public Safety guys chained up or whatever.
