"it's just a tag" "I'm aroace and I don't want my sexuality to be a Tumblr thing"
Tumblr has literally one of the biggest aroace communities when it comes to social media, having more information along with a community can help other people find out who they are, which is really important. If you don't want the tag to have the flag pattern, that's a you problem. Our sexuality having more relevance and representation as every other sexuality is really important and especially when we're talking about the social media with the biggest amount of aroace users

Politicising representation in media is redundant and not fair to those who are surrounded by the majority, black kids grow up to accept themselves as black more if they see black representation in media, queer and trans kids grow up accepting themselves or even realising they’re queer and/or trans sooner if they see a queer and/or trans representation in media. That’s just makes sense.
To deny that kind of representation isn’t needed or pushing some “political agenda” thus marking it as negative is a sign of intolerance and an excessive resistance to change.

These are all so important and helpful!!
I’m gonna try and get some events and organization going to help with the saving dbda campaign as soon as I can!
Until then check out these petitions;
LINK 1
LINK 2
here are some things you can do despite the cancellation:
stream the show!!
request dbda s2 as a title on netflix here:
geeked week is running from september 16-19. if you have a twitter account (or if youre planning on making one) tweet @netflix during (and before, but esp during) the event with dbda chatter. be mindful if you're doing this, do not harrass anybody and don't create multiple accounts as they'll be flagged as bots. I'm not too sure about how much they check over here on tumblr, that's why I'm signalling out twitter.
there's currently an attempt to get #SaveDeadBoyDetectives trending on twt rn if you'd like to contribute. get the tag trending here too <3 (as of writing this #DeadBoyDetectives is already up and going on the bird app)
here's a petition you can sign
@kieren-fucking-walker is planning on organising a UK meetup. check out their interest post here
in terms of events that I'm aware of:
@palasakiweek and @deadboyween week(s) are still set to happen
@crystal-week and a @dbdazine have interest checks out rn!! check em out <3
and finally, create. edits, gifs, moodboards, art, fics, crafts, whatever you can think of. don't let this discourage you.

How do you think Lucius and Narcissa would canonically treat Draco if he was actually gay? Would Lucius be disappointed in Draco for not being interested in women? What is your take on this?
This is a tough question to answer because aside from JKR's 'diversity win. the highly morally questionable manipulator of children was gay for wizard hitler' statement after the books came out and 2 instances of homophobic insults, LGBTIA+ people simply are not visible in the books.
From a Doylist perspective this is because JKR sucked at representation (although hilariously she was so straight she accidentally wrote several characters as extremely queer - but she doesn't get credit for that).
So in-universe the lack of discussion of this topic means either it's so accepted that it's just not even brought up. Or else the wizarding world is wildly homophobic. You can read it as either. The purebloods certainly seem to value producing offspring with appropriate matches and furthering their bloodline.
But in a universe with magic it's quite believable that a same-sex couple could very easily produce a child. Similarly it's believable that transitioning from one gender to another is as simple as swallowing one dose of a special potion to the point that it's not really worth remarking on because being born in the wrong body is as easy to remedy as having a hangnail.
In Draco's case I think it's notable that he never has a girlfriend. If his family was deeply homophobic I'd think he would put more effort into keeping up appearances and dating someone. That's how I like to read it in general because I like to think in a world with magic and dragons, queer people being able to exist isn't too much of a stretch of imagination. But I certainly think there's canonical evidence for the opposite reading. And some excellent fics have been written for that.
My personal preference is to view it as the wizarding world having tolerant views towards queerness and just being intolerant about different sorts of things than in the muggle world - i.e. being gay is fine but if you want to marry a nonhuman you might face prejudice.

"love is love", "you just haven't found the right person yet", "you're too young to be sure", "i could never be aroace", "love is human", "aroace people aren't actually queer", " *aroace representation* omg look at this ACE rep", "how do you even live without romance/sex", "y'all are just inhumane", "what if you fall in love", "the a on lgbtia is for allies", *ships aroace character with another character*
yeah no obviously, aphobia isn't normalized at all /s
this post is not directed to other queer people. the "love is love" slogan is used by many companies and that slogan doesn't include aro and trans people which are part of the community. I'm fucking tired of all of these aphobes who already called me a homophobe, telling me I'm not queer or creep around on my posts. STOP.

This was my most favourite of the books growing up--closely followed by the Last Herald Mage trilogy.
Tumblr media
Since it's Ace Week I thought I'd talk about one of my favorite books, Brightly Burning by Mercedes Lackey, in which the main protagonist, Lavan, is AroAce. <3
Here's part of the write-up from the cover flap:
With BRIGHTLY BURNING, best-selling author Mercedes Lackey returns to her greatest creation-- the fantasy world of Valdemar-- at a time when this magical kingdom faces war with its most powerful enemy, the kingdom of Karse. In this turbulent age, a young man emerges who has abilities never seen before-- a Gift so terrifying that even the Heralds, Valdemar's magical protectors, fear him. Only three individuals-- one Herald, one Healer, and one very special Companion-- are willing to accept the challenge of training the youth who will become the most notorious Herald in Valdemar's history: Lavan Firestorm.
Lavan presents as AroAce because he is Lifebonded (think Soulmates only stronger) to his Companion, Kalira (the shiny white horselike being in the picture above), so he has no interest in romance or sex, all of his emotional needs are fulfilled by Kalira. The fact that he's AroAce isn't jammed into your face in this book, with the exception of one small scene when a potential love interest needs to be smucked upside the head and told why he's not interested lol. It's very well written and a lovely book in general. IT WILL ALSO RIP YOUR HEART OUT, TEAR IT TO PIECES AND THEN STOMP ON THOSE PIECES. Fair warning. I cried so hard near the end of this book that I couldn't even keep reading. I had to take a minute. =/
Really, people, just go read the Valdemar books by Mercedes Lackey. They're so inclusive and heartwarming and tragic. You won't regret it. <3

[looks at your recent polycula reblog] can we expect such wonders in the show? 👁️👁️
Really looking forward to whatever you have planned! 😁
Thank you so much!
Obviously we can’t talk any specifics, but as a queer writing team we are absolutely here for more LGBTIA+ representation in the story!

Tell me about your favorite pieces of work. What's an art piece and a writing piece you're just really proud of?
Oh boy Oh boy, it’s my time to shine ✊🏽
Among my writings, I have many that I am attached to mostly because of the love you guys have shown have really helped me be proud of them but at the top of them I have Demonically Adorable
I wrote the first ‘fight scene’ that I was genuily proud out, I think it was actually my first one in general and I think a smooth job in it.
I ‘ve also struggled with those types of fics where you introduce a Reader into a canon series of events because I struggle to find the balance between keeping it true to egents but also not making it a copy paste.
The funniest part about this is that this fic was I think the first request I rejected. I was telling @cosmocup1d, the requester, bless their heart btw, that I had spent days trying to think of a plot but I had failed only to get inspiration a day later. And man on my I was in the zone. I loved how it turned out from start to finish, which usually I end up insecure about one part of the fic but this one I felt so accomplished.
That being said I also feel great accomplishment for Hungry for truth, the one shot that I had written thanks to you and 💧’s prompts and ideas ( please let me work with you guys again, i am in my knees begging you). I think I have mentioned it before but I am a fan of yandere but am horrible at writting it. I gave a try on Delivery for one and Locked Database and I felt okay about them, I liked them but Hungry for truth was top of the top. It was something that I felt so proud to show both you and 💧.
With it I felt like I had truly ashieved that dark theme, yandere theme that I had attempted to reach with the other true but failed to truly achieve.
Now on to art, it’s funny I don’t think many of you know I draw 😂, thats how this blog originally started and was intended to be, an art blog but then you inspired me to actually try to publish my writings and so here we are.
I did many types of art, including the abstract art lgbtia event where I published a couple of them every day in pride month. I like those but they were pretty simple, fast, something to show my pride more than the art. Now if we are talking about my favorite one’s it has got to be this one.
In it I drew my oc Alexa ( the pink haired girl) along with the representation of two other friends who back then were anons who identified themselves with the 🧶 and 🌻 emoji. I felt proud of how I did the backround, something that I had been practicing for a while and finally aces to the creation of emoji representations like them. The autumn representation I did is also up there, I remember at first it was just a witch but when I started doing a bunch of hair do I was like wait pumpkin? (Please ignore the words on the post they are a mess of pretend family tree that even back then I din’t understand)
And an honarable mention to my soulmate compass, less up there because most of it was simply tracing the photo of my actual compass with just a pretty backround
So yeah there they are! My proudest pieces. Thank you so much for asking quin 😂, I love answering questions of the stories I write, what was the thoughts behind it and I like even more interacting with each and every one of you.
As promised take your smooch
