Absolute least favorite trope in the fic: inserting new world-building so that the controversial actions that Alder does in canon are all rationalized into woobie-bait. Examples: "Alder was forced into the Biddy bond!" "The Martyrdom was actually a lesser evil!" "Alder felt regret about signing the Accords!" "Alder was forced into doing things by men in power!" Since fucking when has the US military been meaningfully held accountable for anything, or their power (and the military industrial complex) had a reduction in growth? Name me one irl modern general that doesn't believe wholeheartedly in militarism. The nation can do much wrong by the rank and file (including appalling treatment of veterans), but the brass? Hah. And neither do the brass of the MFS military waver in their belief in militarism, either. We know that they could play malicious compliance via things like Tally's dispensation if they wanted to. They don't want to. The "magical enforcement" didn't stop Dodgers from existing, nor did it stop Nicte from deserting. The slow-play of the invasion of the Cession could have just as easily been done in their deployments in other nations, or in their hunting of Dodgers (like Scylla's parents). (Even Anacostia doesn't have a problem with torturing Scylla for information. "Gotta break a few eggs." No one agitates for the closure of GuantanamoSt. Dominique, either. There's no doubt in my mind that MFS's detention centers carry the same controversies as our world's.) No. Alder not only has no regrets about the Accords, she believes in them. She truly believes that all witches under her jurisdiction should serve, and that it is an honor to do so. She believes in the concept of glory in battle, and wishes for her soldiers to, as well. Alder's instinct is to hide inconvenient information from the chain of command and the public, which further proves that if she wanted to commit malicious compliance and covertly get around the wishes of those in power, she could, but she chose not to because she doesn't have a problem with the Accords or the wars she's been in. Most relevantly, Alder maintained the conflict of the Spree as an alternative to nationalist conflict. Letting the Spree propagate was her solution to Liberia. That is how she thinks, not even the smallest inkling that maybe she could modify the Accords and aim for our world's progressive strategy of pushing anti-discrimination policies and full civilian population integration/equality/equity. The idea of de-militarization is borderline anathema to her. She doesn't see conscription as slavery at all, but an honorable duty. Someone who says "I never needed The Hague's approval for my actions. I simply extend the invitation to accept my rulings." has a particular relationship to power. If the director of the CIA said this, we would not pretend that they are laboring under the yoke of anyone. Nah, that's just plain ol' mundane deep state. (Meanwhile, in 3x4 the scene with Alder and the Marshal shows that she definitely did not take on or continue using the Biddy working under duress. She's grateful for it, he's not morally indicted for using it, and they called the exchange "sharing." In fact, that might even imply that the Marshal could have been willing to share the Working without the deal, but Alder negotiated the creation of the Cession as thanks.) These characters are so much more interesting when they are allowed to do women's wrongs, for this show to explore how a world of alternative supremacy means that those alternative figures of power will still commit the same ethical pitfalls with it. Let them commit war crimes, as a treat! The relationships are so much more interesting when they have to grapple with real universal flaws instead of hand-waving them with "[other demographic]'s prejudice made me do it."

why does the pjo series have to unnecessarily villainize goddesses (hera & athena) or show them as silly ladies (aphrodite & demeter) BUT posiedon and apollo are somehow shown as the coolest/most likeable gods, even though arguably, they're right after zeus on terms of corruption?
ares shown as the worst god after zeus and hera amuses me. last time i checked, he was the patron god of amazons and literally killed a man for attempting to rape his daughter but guess who cursed women for rejection? apollo. guess who raped women when they said no (aside from zeus)? posiedon.
#all the gods and goddesses in the greek mythology are flawed in their own way#it doesn't make sense why the books were so unnecessarily biased towards certain gods?#it bothers me specifically that hera and athena are SO unnecessarily painted as villains#while posiedon is âcoolâ dad âgreatâ lover âdecentâ god âreasonableâ than other olympians#i get it he's the main character's father of a children's fantasy novel so rick painted him in a good light#but my man? then why are you painting other gods who are arguably just as bad as him as WORSE#shut up i feel strongly about it#i love the percy jackson series#but i hate how the gods are portrayed#is trials of apollo a good series? yes#does it make sense why he's shown as a human-like god with redemption arc#while hera is reduced to âevil stepmomâ and âbitch to annabethâ even if apollo is JUST as bad as her?#no#and aphrodite is not some âsilly fangirlâ whose personality revolves around shipping percabeth#she is powerful terrifying and cunning who can bestow some of worst revenge on those who offend her#demeter is not a silly crop goddess#her love for her daughter was so strong it almost ended the world and destroyed mankind#shes in charge of harvest and agriculture without her humanity will starve to death#shes just as powerful as the big-3 or at least she should be#posiedon is not this cool perfect rational god#medusa would disagree demeter would disagree pasiphae would disagree odysseus would disagree#apollo cursed women posiedon raped yet ares killed a rapist BUT nooo let's make ares the bad one#percy jackson#rr crit#greek mythology#heroes of olympus#trials of apollo

this is actually one of the changes that made me angriest because in the books, luke and thalia take annabeth in for no other reason than compassion and empathy for their shared fates as demigods. SHE WAS THEIR SECOND CHANCE
I know a lot of us have had various complaints about the way the PJO show approached certain things, but one thing I havenât seen people bring up is the change made to Thaliaâs relationship with Annabeth, in which Thalia made Annabeth âearnâ her place in the group, instead of Thalia being sympathetic towards a 7 yr. old who was all alone and needed a place to belong.
Now, itâs very possible that Rick and the writers will forget they made that change and things will proceed as normal, but letâs just assume that Thalia and Annabethâs relationship will actually change.
Am I the only one that doesnât really like this change? It makes Thalia seem like a massive asshole, and Iâm not even entirely sure that it fits her character (assuming weâre still working with the same Thalia; with the way the showâs going, itâs very possible that sheâs gonna get a personality shift too). I also wonder what repercussions this is going to have when we get to Titanâs Curse. The showâs version of Annabeth sounded almost resentful regarding her relationship with Thalia, and it sounds like the showâs version of Thalia is the type of person who doesnât really empathize with people until they prove they deserve it. Does that mean that their relationship in TTC will be awkward and unfriendly? Thatâs not really the dynamic that those two seem to have.
Idk, man.
#also the concept of a 12yo making a 7yp prove herself as useful to âearnâ her care is hilarious đ#in what world is framing the act of taking a kid in while on the run as an investment rather than a kindness logical??? đđđ#SHES 7!! SHE WILL SLOW THEM DOWN!! AND SHE WILL BE EASILY TRAUMATIZED!!#absolute logical parkour happening in the writersâ room#they said the reason why Thalia is Like That is because luke Isnt so annabeth must have gotten it from Somewhere. therefore: Thalia#which is funny because in the first place annabeth is not the cold emotionless hardass they portray her as in the show#tbh when you think about how they portrayed all the female characters who arenât one-off appearances#so thats sally annabeth clarisse thalia and athena#they tried to make them so âgirlbossâ at the expense of the love and compassion they are all capable of in the books bc. Strong Womenâ˘ď¸#like wdym sally yells at percy for mild disobedience#wdym annabeth doesnt know how to be human.#wdym thalia made a 7yo earn her care#and wdym the goddess of wisdom punishes annabeth for humiliating her BY LETTING HER SANCTUARY BE DEFILED#(this is the one that pisses me off the most because in contrast poseidon gets to be an extra loving father by surrendering to zeus)#similarly in comparison to thalia luke gets to be the easygoing sympathetic big brother who just happens to be a little misled by kronos#rr crit#pjotv crit

You know how we all love to say Percy and Annabeth are everyoneâs parents? Well I literally think their friends treat them that way.
You messed up and now a dark force is out to get you and you donât know how to handle it? Call Mom (Annabeth). She will know exactly what to do and sheâs going to bring research. Sheâs not gonna let anything happen to you.
You need to go to a really scary monster lair and youâre scared of getting ripped to literal shreds? Call Dad (Percy). He will kick its ass and protect you at all costs. Heâs not gonna let anything happen to you.
Feeling overwhelmed after moving? Call Mom. Annabeth will bring homemade cookies, unpack everything in an orderly yet efficient fashion, and then sit down with you, listen, give advice, and then help you make a plan.
Got arrested? Call Dad. Percy will want to know what happened and make sure youâre okay, but heâs not gonna judge or scold you. Heâll pay your bail, take you for ice cream, and then tell you his own stories about getting arrested.
When people need advice about men, they call Annabeth. When people need advice about women, they call Percy. Because who better to ask than the couple whoâve been super happily married for what feels like forever (even if theyâve only technically been dating for 6 years or something).
Dating someone new? Mom and Dad do NOT get to meet them yet. Percy and Annabeth are going to be unnecessarily intimidating (in different ways) and scare the person away SO fast. And if the person somehow passes the test, then Percy and Annabeth are going to go back to bickering and flirting and overall just being so embarrassing.
Mom and Dad are a couple of menaces, but they also know how to handle anything and will always come running if you call.
#i only see them having 3-4 biological children but they basically have like 100 kids#cause theyâre everyoneâs parents#mom and dad are fighting again#nope now theyâre making out#jesus christ who invited them to the movie#percabeth#percy jackson#annabeth chase#pjo#heroes of olympus#percy jackson and the olympians#rick riordan#riordanverse#pjo headcanons

The truth about Medusa and her rape... Mythology breakdown time!
With the recent release of the Percy Jackson television series, Tumblr is bursting with mythological posts, and the apparition of Medusa the Gorgon has been the object of numerous talks throughout this website⌠Including more and more spreading of misinformation, and more debates about what is the âtrueâ version of Medusaâs backstory.
Already let us make that clear: the idea that Medusa was actually âblessedâ or âgiftedâ by Athena her petrifying gaze/snake-hair curse is to my knowledge not at all part of the Antique world. I still do not know exactly where this comes from, but I am aware of no Greek or Roman texts that talked about this â so it seems definitively a modern invention. After all, the figure of Medusa and her entire myth has been taken part, reinterpreted and modified by numerous modern women, feminist activist, feminist movements or artists engaged in the topic of womenâs life and social conditions â most notably Medusa becoming the âsymbol of raped womenâ wrath and furyâ. It is an interesting reading and a fascinating update of the ancient texts, and it is a worthy take on its own time and context â but today we are not talking about the posterity, reinvention and continuity of Medusa as a myth and a symbol. I want to clarify some points about the ACTUAL myth or legend of Medusa â the original tale, as told by the Greeks and then by the Romans.
Most specifically the question: Was Medusa raped?
Step 1: Yes, but no.
The backstory of Medusa you will find very often today, ranging from mythology manuals (vulgarization manuals of course) to Youtube videos, goes as such: Medusa was a priestess of Athena who got raped by Poseidon while in Athenaâs temple, and as a result of this, Athena punished Medusa by turning her into the monstrous Gorgon.
Some will go even further claiming Athenaâs âcurseâ wasnât a punishment but a âgiftâ or blessing â and again, I donât know where this comes from and nobody seems to be able to give me any reliable source for that, so⌠Letâs put this out of there.
Now this backstory â famous and popular enough to get into Riodanâs book series for example â is partially true. There are some elements here very wrong â and by wrong I do mean wrong.
The story of Medusa being raped and turned into a monster due to being raped does indeed exist, and it is the most famous and widespread of all the Medusa stories, the one people remembered for the longest time and wrote and illustrated the most about. Hence why Medusa became in the 20th century this very important cultural symbol tied to rape and the abuse of women and victim-blaming. HOWEVER â the origin of this story is Ovidâs Metamorphoses, from the first century CE or so. Ovid? A Roman poet writing for Roman people. âMetamorphosesâ? One of the two fundamental works of Roman literature and one of the two main texts of Roman mythology, alongside Virgilâs Aeneid. This is a purely Roman story belonging to the Roman culture â and not the Greek one. The story of Medusaâs rape does not have Greek precedents to my knowledge, Ovid introduced the element of rape â which is no surprise given Ovid turned half of the romances of Greek mythology into rapes. Note that, on top of all this, Ovid wasnât even writing for religious purposes, nor was his text an actual mythological effort â he wrote it with pure literary intentions at heart. It is just a piece of poetry and literature taking inspiration from the legends of the Greek world, not some sort of sacred text.
Second big point: The legend I summarized above? It isnât even the story Ovid wrote, since there are a lot of elements that do not come from Ovidâs retelling of the story (book fourth of the Metamorphoses). For example Ovid never said Medusa was a priestess of Athena â all he said was that she was raped in the temple of Athena. I shouldnât even be writing Athena since again, this is a Roman text: we are speaking of Minerva here, and of Neptune, not of Athena or Poseidon. Similarly, Minervaâs curse did not involve the petrifying gaze â rather all Ovid wrote about was that Minerva turned Medusaâs hair into snakes, to âpunishâ her because her hair were very beautiful, and it was what made her have many suitors (none of which she wanted to marry apparently), and it is also implied it is what made Neptune fall in love (or rather fall in lust) with her. I guess it is from this detail that the reading of âAthenaâs curse was a giftâ comes from â even though this story also clearly does victim-blaming of rape here.
But what is very fascinating is that⌠we are not definitively sure Neptune raped Medusa in Ovidâs retelling. For sure, the terms used by Ovid in his fourth book of Metamorphoses are clear: this was an action of violating, sexually assaulting, of soiling and corrupting, we are talking about rape. But Ovid refers several other times to Medusa in his other books, sometimes adding details the fourth-book stories does not have (the sixth book for examples evokes how Neptune turned into a bird to seduce Medusa, which is completely absent from the fourth bookâs retelling of Medusaâ curse). And in all those other mentions, the terms to designate the relationship between Medusa and Neptune are more ambiguous, evoking seduction and romance rather than physical or sexual assault. (It does not help that Ovid has an habit of constantly confusing consensual and non-consensual sex in his poems, meaning that a rape in one book can turn into a romance in another, or reversal)
But the latter fact makes more sense when you recall that the rape element was invented and added by Ovid. Before, yes Poseidon and Medusa loved each other, but it was a pure romance, or at least a consensual one-night. Heck, if we go back to the oldest records of the love between Poseidon and Medusa, back in Hesiodâs Theogony, we have descriptions of the two of them laying together in a beautiful, flowery meadow â a stereotypical scene of pastoral romances â with no mention of any brutality or violence of any sort. As a result, it makes sense the original âromanticâ story would still âleakâ or cast a shadow over Ovidâs reinvented and slightly-confused tale.
Step 2: So⌠no rape?
Well, if we go by Greek texts, no, apparently Medusa was not raped in Greek mythology, and only became a rape victim through Ovid.
The Ancient Greek texts all record Poseidon and Medusa sleeping with each other and having children, but no mention of rape. And the whole âcurse of Athenaâ thing is not present in the oldest records â no temple of Athena soiling, no angry Athena cursing a poor girl⌠âNo curse?â you say âBut then how did Medusa got turned into a Gorgonâ? Answer: she did not. She was born like that.
As I said before, the oldest record of Medusaâs romance but also of her family comes from Hesiodâs Theogony (Hesiod being one of the two âfounding authorsâ of Greek mythology, alongside Homer â Homer did wrote several times about Medusa, but only as a disembodied head and as a monster already dead, so we donât have any information about her life). And what do we learn? That Medusa is part of a set of three sisters known as the Gorgons â because oh yes, Ovid did not mention Medusaâs sister now did he? How did Medusaâs sisters ALSO got snake-hair or petrifying-gaze if only Medusa was cursed for sleeping with Neptune? Ovid does not give us any answer because again, it is an âadaptational plot holeâ, and the people that try to adapt Ovidâs story have to deal with the slight problem of Stheno and Euryale needing to share their sisterâs curse despite seemingly not being involved in the whole Neptune business. Anyway, back to the Greek text.
So, you have those three Gorgon sisters, and Medusa is said to be mortal while her sisters are not. Why is it such a big deal? Because Medusa wasnât originally some random human or priestess. Oh no! Who were the Gorgonsâ parents? Phorcys and Keto/Ceto, aka two sea-gods. Not just two sea-gods â two sea-gods of the ancient, primordial generation of sea-gods, the one that predated Poseidon, and that were cousins to the Titans, the sea-gods born of Gaia mating with Pontos.
So the Gorgons were âdivineâ of nature â and this is why Medusa being a mortal was considered to be a MASSIVE problem and handicap for her, an abnormal thing for the daughter of two deities. But letâs dig a bit further⌠Who were Phorcys and Ceto? Long story short: in Greek mythology, they were considered to be sea-equivalents of Typhon and Gaia. They were the parents of many monsters and many sea-horrors: Keto/Ceto herself had her name attributed and equated with any very large creature (like whales) or any terrifying monster (like dragons) from the sea. The Gorgons themselves was a trio of monsters, but their sisters, that directly act as their double in the myth of Perseus? The Graiai â the monstrous trio of old women sharing one eye and one tooth. Hesiod also drops the fact that Ladon (the dragon that guarded the golden apples of the Hesperids), and Echidna (the snake-woman that mated with Typhon and became known as the âmother of monstersâ) were also children of Phorcys and Ceto, while other authors will add other monster-related characters such as Scylla (of Charybdis and Scylla fame), the sirens, or Thoosa (the mother of Polyphemus the cyclop). Medusa herself is technically a âmother of monstersâ since she birthed both Pegasus the flying horse and Chrysaor, a giant. So here is something very important to get: Medusa, and the Gorgons, were part of a family of monsters. Couple that with the absence of any mention of curses in these ancient texts, and everything is clear.
Originally Medusa was not a woman cursed to become a monster: she was born a monster, part of a group of monster siblings, birthed by monster-creating deities, and she belonged to the world of the âprimordial abominations from the seaâ, and the pre-Olympian threats, the remnants of the primordial chaos. It is no surprise that the Gorgons were said to live at the edge of the very known world, in the last patch of land before the end of the universe â in the most inhuman, primitive and liminal area possible. They were full-on monsters!
Now you might ask why Poseidon would sleep with a horrible monster, especially when you recall that the Greeks loved to depict the Gorgons as truly bizarre and grotesque. It wasnât just snake-hair and petrifying gaze: they had boar tusks, and metallic claws, and bloated eyes, and a long tongue that constantly hanged down their bearded chin, and very large heads â some very old depictions even show her with a female centaur body! In fact, the ancient texts imply that it wasnât so much the Gorgonâs gaze or eyes that had the power to turn people into stone â but that rather the Gorgon was just so hideous and so terrifying to look at people froze in terror â and then literally turned into stone out of fear and disgust. We are talking Lovecraftian level of eldritch horror here. So why would Poseidon, an Olympian god, sleep with one of these horrors? Well⌠If you know your Poseidon it wouldnât surprise you too much because Poseidon had a thing for monsters. As a sort of âdark doubleâ of Zeus, whereas Zeus fell in love with beautiful princesses and noble queens and birthed great gods and brave heroes, Poseidon was more about getting freaky with all sorts of unusual and bizarre goddesses, and giving birth to bandits and monsters. A good chunk of the villains of Greek mythology were born out of Poseidonâs loins: Polyphemus, Antaios, Orion, Charybdis, the Aloads⌠And even his most benevolent offspring has freaky stuff about it â Proteus the shapeshifter or Triton half-man half-fish⌠So yes, Poseidon sleeping with an abominable Gorgon is not so much out of character.
Step 3: The missing link
Now that we established what Medusa started out as, and what she ended up as⌠We need to evoke the evolution from point Hesiod to point Ovid, because while people summarized the Medusa debate as âSea-born monster VS raped and punished womanâ, there is a third element needed to understand this whole situationâŚ
Yes Ovid did invent the rape. But he did not invent the idea that Medusa had been cursed by Athena.
The âgorgoneionâ â the visual and artistic motif of the Gorgonâs head â was, as I said, a grotesque and monstrous face used to invoke fright into the enemies or to repel any vile influence or wicked spirit by the principle of âWhatâs the best way to repel bad stuff? Badder stuffâ. Your Gorgon was your gargoyle, with all the hideous traits I described before â represented in front (unlike all the other side-portraits of gods and heroes), with the face being very large and flat, a big tongue out of a tusked-mouth, snake-hair, bulging crazy eyes, sometimes a beard or scales⌠Pure monster. But then⌠from the fifth century BCE to the second century BCE we see a slow evolution of the âgorgoneionâ in art. Slowly the grotesque elements disappear, and the Gorgonâs face becomes⌠a regular, human face. Even more: it even becomes a pretty womanâs face! But with snakes instead of hair. As such, the idea that Medusa was a gorgeous woman who just had snakes and cursed-eyes DOES come from Ancient Greece â and existed well before Ovid wrote his rape story.
But what was the reason behind this change?
Well, we have to look at the Roman era again. Ovidâs tale of Medusa being cursed for her rape at the hands of Neptune had to rival with another record collected by a Greek author Apollodorus, or Pseudo-Apollodorus, in his Bibliotheca. In this collection of Greek myths, Apollodorus writes that indeed, Medusa was cursed by Athena to have her beautiful hair that seduced everybody be turned into snakes⌠But it wasnât because of any rape or forbidden romance, no. It was just because Medusa was a very vain woman who liked to brag about her beauty and hair â and had the foolish idea of saying her hair looked better than Athenaâs. (If you recall tales such as Arachneâs or the Judgement of Paris, you will know that despite Athena being wise and clever, one of her main flaws is her vanity).
âWait a minute,â you are going to tell me, âThe Bibliotheca was created in the second century CE! Well after Greece became part of the Roman Empire, and after Ovidâs Metamorphoses became a huge success! It isnât a true Greek myth, it is just Ovidâs tale being projected hereâŚâ And people did agree for a time⌠Until it was discovered, in the scholias placed around the texts of Apollonios of Rhodes, that an author of the fifth century BCE named Pherecyde HAD recorded in his time a version of Medusaâs legend where she had been cursed into becoming an ugly monster as punishment for her vanity. We apparently do not have the original text of Pherecyde, but the many scholias referring to this lost piece are very clear about this. This means that the story that Apollodorus recorded isnât a ânoveltyâ, but rather the latest record of an older tradition going back to the fifth century BCE⌠THE SAME CENTURY THAT THE GORGONEION STARTED LOSING THEIR GROTESQUE, and that the face of Medusa started becoming more human in art.
[EDIT: I also forgot to add that this evolution of Medusa is also proved by strange literary elements, such as Pindar's mention in a poem of his (around 490 BCE) of "fair-cheeked Medusa". A description which seems strange given how Medusa used to be depicted as the epitome of ugliness... But that makes sense if the "cursed beauty" version of the myth had been going around at the time!]
And thus it is all connected and explained. Ovid did invent the rape yes â but he did not invent the idea of Athena cursing Medusa. It pre-existed as the most ârecentâ and dominating legend in Ancient Greece, having overshadowed by Ovidâs time the oldest Hesiodic records of Medusa being born a monster. So what Ovid did wasnât completely create a new story out of nowhere, but twist the Greek traditions of Athena cursing Medusa and Medusa having a relationship with Poseidon, so that the two legends would form one and same story. And this explains in retrospect why Ovid focuses so much on describing Medusaâs beautiful hair, and why Ovidâs Minerva would think turning her hair into snake would be a âpunishment fit for the crimeâ: these are leftovers of the Greek tale where Medusa was punished for her boasting and her vanity.
CONCLUSION
Here is the simplified chronology of how Medusaâs evolution went.
A) Primitive Greek myths, Hesiodic tradition: Born a monster out of a family of sea-monsters and monstrous immortals. Is a grotesque, gargoylesque, eldritch abomination. Athena has only an indirect conflict with her, due to being Perseusâ âfairy godmotherâ. Has a lovely romance with Poseidon.
B) Slow evolution throughout Classical Greece and further: Medusa becomes a beautiful, human-looking girl that was cursed to have snake for hair and petrifying eyes, instead of being a Lovecraftian horror people could not gaze upon. Her conflict with Athena becomes direct, as it is Athena that cursed her due to being offended by her vain boasting. Her punishment is for her vanity and arrogant comparison to the goddess.
C) Ovid comes in: Medusaâs romance with Poseidon becomes a rape, and she is now punished for having been raped inside Athenaâs temple.
[As a final note, I want to insist upon the fact that the story of Medusa being raped is not less "worthy" than any other version of the myth. Due to its enormous popularity, how it shaped the figure of Medusa throughout the centuries, and how it still survives today and echoes current-day problems, to try to deny the valid place of this story in the world of myths and legends would be foolish. HOWEVER it is important to place back things in their context, to recognize that it is not the ONLY tale of Medusa, that it was NOT part of Greek mythology, but rather of Roman legends - and let us all always remember this time Poseidon slept with a Lovecraftian horror because my guy is kinky.]
EDIT:
For illustration, I will place here visuals showing how the Ancient art evolved alongside Medusa's story.
Before the 5th century BCE: Medusa is a full-on monster
From the 5th century to the 2nd century BCE: A slow evolution as Medusa goes from a full-on monster to a human turned into a monster. As a result the two depictions of the grotesque and beautiful gorgoneion coexist.
Post 2nd century BCE: Medusa is now a human with snake hair, and just that

Yandere Batfam x Camp half-blood (Neglected reader)
DC x Pjo
Part 13
______________________________
"We have to get off this ship" Annabeth whispers "the amount of monsters here aren't normal, something is going on" she says
You were about to agree then a loud clang was heard, you four quickly hid
Looking at the window you see straw dummies with orange camp half-blood shirts, a Dracaenae (dragon women) rips the dummies and the other monsters cheer
"âDon't push me Agrius!" You feel both Annabeth and Percy stiffen as the sudden voice seeps into your ears
"Luke..." Percy shudders, This Luke guy and his friend were arguing, something about gambling, wait no- that's a metaphor for taking a risk
"it will pay off!" Luke yells "They'll take the bait... Now let's check in the casket"
Tyson whimpered "Leave now?"
Silence...
"please..." He muttered after
The remaining three of you came to an agreement, Percy looked eager and Annabeth looked worried
You sigh "We can't, if this guy is talking about something that relates to camp or something worse, we have to find out"
And if possible beat the shit out of him and drag him back to camp to explain
Annabeth volunteered to go alone, saying she had a camp that turned her invisible so it'd be fine, it was met with both you and Percy objecting and saying everyone will go or no one will
"I vote no one goes! Pretty please?" Tyson pleaded, and it ended with three kids crawling and walking like spies with a big cyclops nervously chewing his fingernails trotting behind
Someone opens the door for Luke and the monster, not another monster... A demigod!
"that's Chris Rodriguez! From the Hermes cabin!?" You exclaim and then you clasp your hands to your mouth after realizing you were too loud
Annabeth looked heartbroken "there are more traitors...?"
______________________________
A certain king of Atlantis is sat across Bruce, the looming presence between the two, but there is a sense of respect shared
"As a father myself I feel like you should know something" Aquaman sighs
The blonde haired king reminisces the feeling of losing a child, his baby was abducted by someone he trusted and he got his little boy back at the end, it was a dreadful feeling
The feeling that no matter how many good you'll do next, the person you wanted it to be for won't be here to benefit, "Diana was mistaken, Your child was spotted by one of my merguards on the sea, they're alive and I thought you should know-"
"Where?! Where is my kid right now?" Bruce had jumped from the table to shake Aquaman's shoulders
"they are at sea on a ship... And I'm afraid they might be in danger, as the ship is heading for the sea of monsters- or what you humans call the Bermuda triangle, and I can't stop it-"
"Why not!? Aren't you the king of the ocean!??"
"Calm down, I am the king of Atlantis, not the sea nor the ocean, do not mistake me for my emperor, Lord Poseidon"
Bruce takes a deep breath, "Why is my baby there?, how can I get them?"
"I believe your child is on a quest, a quest given by the gods, mortals cannot interfere, you only have to wait for it to be over, there is also a chance they may not get out of the quest alive, Bruce... Don't try anything" Aquaman tries to warn
"I'm not letting my child stay in a place called the sea of monsters, I'll find them" he says
The king looks at him with sadness "Unfortunately you cannot find the sea of monsters, it finds you, it doesn't matter if you search the whole ocean, if the sea does not want you finding it, you won't, you are gonna have to trust your child that they have the means to survive this"
Silence took over, then a gentle heartbroken voice appeared "you just told me my baby is alive, and if they die again, I don't know how I'll pull through this time"
"I'm so sorry Bruce, I'll take my leave"
______________________________
"We are SO gonna die here" you whisper in Percy's ear
Annabeth shifts as to the four of you tiptoe into the Captain's door, that's when you hear them, muffled sounds, you push your ear through the door
Luke talking about a casket and a golden fleece, the fleece you guys are looking for! What will Luke use it on?
"I can't hear anything!" Percy frustratingly says, Tyson pushes his ear through the door and speaks, he speaks in Luke's voice
"âthe prophecies ourselves, those fools won't know which way to turn" Tyson says
He copied Luke's voice... You forgot cyclops can do that, how... Creepy.
Nevermind the visible uncomfortable tension that Tyson veiled on the you, Percy and for some reason especially Annabeth, Tyson continues to mimic voice, this time a deeper gruffer voice "you really think the old horseman is gone for good?"
You gasp, they are talking about Chiron, then Tyson laughed, it was Luke's laugh "They can't trust him anymore, not with the skeletons in his closet, the poisoning of Thalia's tree was the last straw"
Annabeth shivered, then she yelled "Tyson stop! That's creepy!", Tyson shrunk "I was just listening"
"keep listening" Percy says
Tyson closed his eyes again "âQuiet! I heard something, just outside the door" and before I could tell everyone to hide
Luke opened the door and saw us
A cyclops, a child of Aphrodite, Athena and Poseidon
"Percy! Anne! Long time no see... Who are these two?" Luke gestures to me and Tyson
Fuck.

âpercy, itâs not fairâ you cry, wiping your tears from your cheeks
percy laughs at your saddened state. from the moment you told him you had been on your period he made fun of you for every dramatized action you made
âwhatâs not fair, sunshine?â
you pinch percyâs arm. âdonât call me that, asshole!â
the nickname was entirely ironic. when you first arrived at camp you had a silent rivalry with percy. he thought he was so cool and you hated him for it. you were later claimed by hades which explained why you were angry at him for no reason. percy hadnât let the nickname go
âokay, okay, Iâm sorry. tell meâ

âpercy I donât want to be on my period anymoreâ
âI can get you pregnant? youâll get nine whole months free!â
you gasp and sit up again. âperseus! that is not how it works!â
âIâm just joking, relaxâ
percy wraps his arms around your waist, pulling you back into his chest, and additionally keeping you from sitting up again. one of his hands moves up to run through your hair slowly, calming you instantly. you sigh and let yourself melt into him. the rain outside cabin thirteen taps lightly against the window and soon you find yourself in a deep slumber

I think another reason why I get rather annoyed when people hate on ToA Apollo is because how hypocritical their criticisms are.
I just saw a post talking about how great it is that Annabeth gets to show a lot of emotion, especially by crying. I also recall moments where she got frustrated or angry, and I found myself absolutely agreeing!
But then my thoughts turned to Apollo, another character who shows a lot of emotion.
But you know what heâs called for being frustrated, or upset, or for crying?
Whiny. Heâs called whiny.
Apollo gets frustrated when heâs unable to perform something (archery) he used to be extremely good at. Heâs upset that he can no longer use a bow correctly.
And people call him whiny for that. Apparently, those people have never experienced, let alone heard of The Gifted-Kid, something all Gifted-Kids (hello, tis me, Gifted-Kid since 4th grade RIP) can relate to Apollo over.
You were really good at something but all of a sudden you can no longer perform it as well? Youâre not hitting your usual mark?
Well too bad, according to the fan base, you should shut up and not be so awfully whiny! Itâs just archery!
(That was obviously in jest but you get my point.)
Additionally, Apollo never complains about important things. He complains about having to walk, but not the injury thatâs literally turning him into a zombie and physically tormenting him.
That post really made me think about this, and then I asked myself; âWhy? Why are peopleâs thoughts so different on Annabeth v Apollo showing emotion?â
It became apparent rather quickly, if you ask me.
Annabeth is a woman. Of course she should be able to show emotion! also maybe deep-seated sexism of âwomen are emotionalâ
Apollo is a man. And God forbid men show emotion I guess smh so also sexism
Because think about it. How many of the RRVerse male protagonists were allowed to cry? To be fully, and undeniably, upset?
I can only remember Frank crying on the plane after his grandmotherâs presumed death, and Grover sniffling/getting teary-eyed in PJO. I donât recall Percy, Jason, Leo, or Nico ever crying, or really having powerful bursts of emotion.
Yes, yes, Percy and Nico have both gotten mad and unleashed their fury upon someone, but thatâs not what Iâm talking about here.
Iâm talking about letting them feel, letting them be emotional.
Not a burst of anger. But real, genuine character-driven emotion.
The fact that I can only name Frank and Grover from the previous two series is truly saddening.
Apollo gets to feel. To let his emotions flow freely. He whines, yes, but he also gets frustrated, he gets upset, and most of all he cries.
That all makes him a real character, someone people can relate to.
Iâll admit Iâm a rather emotional person too. I have a quick temper, and more often than not the water-works come on real quick when I get upset. Itâs a normal emotional response, but it can be difficult to work with, especially when youâre trying to stay calm.
Apollo is the first RRVerse protagonist to be allowed to have feelingsâ strong ones, even. And I can relate to that. Thereâs a reason why Apollo, Reyna, and Annabeth are all favorites of mine, and thatâs because I see myself in them.
Annabeth is prideful. I can be too. She gets obsessed over her work. I do that too. Hates spiders? Oh hell yeah.
Reyna gave me someone to connect with over my sexuality. Ignore that Rick mixed what aro and ace are for a moment please She really gave my demiromantic self somebody to relate with, because the lack of aro rep is criminal. and no the Hunters are not aro rep
Apollo is emotional. Heâs made mistakes and wants to do better.
Who wouldnât see themselves in him? I certainly do.
And yet, he gets called whiny for having the literal rug pulled out from under him again and again, and he doesnât even let himself complain over what he should, absolutely complain about!
Idk. I think thereâs a lot to be said about how this fandom treats emotional characters, especially based on gender.
I guess this is all to say donât judge a fictional character, because youâre judging a real person too.
And real people have feelings, you know.

hey babes, could you maybe do like a percy x reader where he gets home from AHS one day and just walk in on his mom and gf just having the ultimate gossip session and being besties, idk i just thought that would be funny
percy jackson x fem!reader summary: percy comes home from a long day at school to find his girlfriend and mother immersed in a juicy gossip session wc: 668
Since the day you'd met Sally Jackson, she'd been your favorite person in the whole world, even surpassing your own boyfriend, who just so happened to be her son. Apparently, being a great person just ran in the Jackson family.
Luckily for you, Sally had also taken an immense liking to you, considering you her own daughter. The two of you bonded over various common interests, as well as your worry about Percy.
At first, Percy had been the main thing the two of you bonded over, but the two of you eventually realized that you had a lot in common, one of these things being your love for gossiping. The two of you gossiped every day without fail, even on the days that the two of you didn't see each other in person. The two of you talked long into the night on the phone, Percy overhearing it whether he was at home or with you, and he always pretended to be jealous that the two of you were 'ignoring' him in favor of talking to each other, to which you and Sally would just laugh and continue talking about people that neither of you really even knew that well.
Today, Percy was tired beyond belief, having a test or quiz in almost all of his classes. He was walking home, the only thoughts on his mind being you and a long nap. Yes, he was a demigod, and yes he fought many hour long battles, one of which being a full day of school, and he was now a sleepy boy who just wanted to cuddle with his girlfriend.
Unfortunately, the gods were not looking favorably at him today, because when he finally made it home, he found his girlfriend and mother sat on the couch, seemingly very immersed in a conversation.
While it wasn't out of the ordinary for you to be at his house before him, what was unusual was the fact that when he walked in the door, near you nor his mother even batted an eye in acknowledgement of his presence.
Typically the two of you would at least give him a small 'hi', but not today.
"Hey, I'm home," he said, thinking that the two of you must not have noticed the door opening.
You and Sally didn't even acknowledge him, opting to continue your gossip session instead.
His mouth opened, but no words came out.
Paul Blofis, Percy's step-dad, let out a small sigh, causing Percy to look over at him and finally notice he was there.
Paul gave him a pained smile. "They've been talking like this since I got home," he stated.
Percy gave an empathetic nod, pulling up a chair next to Paul.
"Let's see how long they talk before realizing we're even here," Percy half-jokes.
"Sounds fun," Paul agreed.
It was, in fact, not fun, because the two boys sat there for around 4 hours before you and Sally even looked in their direction.
It was around 9 pm when you and Sally finally stopped talking and acknowledged the two sitting there nearly dozing off.
You got up and grabbed Percy's hand, leading him to his room and plopping down on the bed. His arms went around your waist as he pulled you close to him.
"What were you and my mom even talking about that was so interesting that you completely ignored me when I said hi?" He asked.
"Percy, Sally and I have gossip sessions daily, and they cannot be interrupted. It's very vital that we get to talk about other people for at least 2 hours a day, otherwise we might die," you joke.
"Really? You two do that every day? How do you not run out of things to talk about?"
"Oh you sweet summer child, you underestimate our ability to find gossip-worthy topics."
Percy realizes that he will not ever understand the two most important women in his life and just hums in acknowledgement of your words before falling soundly asleep.

forever falling: luke castellan & his four great loves
a 'partners in crime' installment - luke castellan x dionysus!reader
words: 4.3k
summary: (post-TLT) The one where he falls from grace and still thinks of you. (the four great loves of Luke Castellanâs life and how it will end up killing him) (Luke Castellan x fem!Dionysus!reader)
a/n: i held myself hostage in my car outside the gym until i got this right this morning â listened to forwards, beckon, rebound by adrienne lenker while writing this, thank you for your patience and happy september!
edited, doing taglist when i get back from the gym lmao
â
Falling to his death is taking a lot longer than Luke Castellan thought it would.
For a man with a multitude of regrets, he finds that he can count his biggest ones off the four bloodied fingers that stain his peripherals with every bump and tumble down the jagged rocks of Mount Tamalpais.
What a waste of a life.
Everything heâs ever tried to accomplish has come to this final, humiliating moment of being at someone elseâs mercy. Life is so unfair, he thinks, to give everything for love and have it kick you off the side of a fucking mountain that reeks of eucalyptus and regret. Sure, it was wrong to steal the master bolt, to turn his back on camp, poison Thaliaâs tree, have his little sister hold up the sky, try to kill Percy Jackson every so often, and cause all this chaos⌠(I mean you know how this goes) but the pros outweigh the cons here! Promise.
Luke was so sure that they would all see reasonâthat he was doing this all out of love, no matter how convoluted and backwards his way is compared to theirs, even if heâd never admit that. Change is supposed to be uncomfortable and war was never meant to be pretty. It wasnât supposed to end like this, really. The gods werenât meant to win.
But at the end of it all, love must be his greatest weakness. It has to be.
The Fates should be slicing through the fibers of his lifespan by now, ripping through the embroidered memories in his mind. Nothing of his is his own anymoreânot his life, nor his love.
Love, if heâs learned anything in the two wretched decades that Hermes himself has cursed his existence withâ hurts like a motherfucker. That, or Thalia was definitely wearing steel-toed boots when she kicked his ass off the cliff. Heâs given his life for love, dedicating himself to the greater good of protecting his loved ones, and no one, not even the gods could stand in the way of that. A method to his madness or his undeniable naivety, he still canât tell, but it's gotten him falling deep into an abyss at the hands of a bunch of kids who continually undo his plans to change the world.
Maybe love is little deaths then, and maybe Luke Castellan loves too hard.
There has never been a single moment in his life where he hasnât gone down fightingâhe never lets anything go, holding whatâs important to him so close to his chest that it suffocates. Luke believes that after everything heâs been through, he was never meant for mediocrityânot even when it comes to love. Maybe his death would mean something thenâ maybe that is his glory. To love someone to death, even if it was wrongâ if this is his end, maybe his death will bring peace he knows his love never could.
Four names run through his mind like most things do, intense and fleeting. His final thoughts as he plunges toward the earth are his last act of prayer. If the gods have never listened before, well, these thoughts are all he has to comfort him; they feel heavy behind his lips the further he falls.
Could the Fates be wrong?
His fatal flaw manifests itself into the names of four women he knows he could never deserve in this lifetime, but heâd die trying. He is, dying. This fall from grace is proof enough that he was never meant to be a hero. Excessive wrath bleeds from his being until all thatâs left is love, and heâs ashamed of it.
Gods, heâs such a fucking loser.
Lukeâs neck cracks against stone at the bottom of the cliff, white hot pain crawling up his spine with only one remaining thought clanging around in his brainâhe shouldâve never fucking come back to San Francisco.
And while weâre talking about regretsâLuke recognizes that the one thing heâs never had control of is love.
So he lets go, feeling the weight of his body crumple against the downhill slope of Mount Tamalpais like a puppet cut from its strings without a single cry of pain because Luke Castellan finally comes to accept the loves and losses of his life. His landing feels softer now, rolling to a stop like the waves on Westport Beach. Then he sinks into the earth with a bated sigh and it feels like gentle hands of loves that once believed in him.
Luke closes his eyes before his world spirals into blackâbecause if these few moments are all he has left, heâd like to take this time to remember them.
MAY CASTELLAN [storgÄ - ĎĎÎżĎγΎ]
Luke Castellan was born into this world half-mortal, half-god, but 100% May Castellanâs son. From the moment he came into this world, he was fully her own. Hermes was a factor, yesâbut the manifestation of a demigod is wholly that of the mortal parent in every aspect visible to the naked eye. Blood runs alongside ichor in his veins, but Luke is all hers in every way that mattersâfrom the slope of his nose, his dark velvet curls, and the honey-molten warmth of his eyes. And they were happy together, once upon a time, even if it was mostly just the two of them.
The gods make their half-mortal children in the likeness and image of their human love since their own forms are ever changing. There is nothing permanent about being immortalâleaving their partners with babies that look like them but are vulnerable to the Mist. And when you love a god, the only tangible reminder left behind is one that goes where you cannot follow. Things most canât understandâ speedy baby steps padding down the hall, tiny hands unlocking the pantry door, and a motor mouth able to transmit meaning through toddler gibberish.
But before Luke even knew what love was, his mother made sure he knew hers was stuck to his beingâlike peanut butter and jelly on the roof of his mouth from all the sandwiches she made. His clothes used to smell like chamomile from her morning brew and his fingers were often stained blue from Kool-Aid powder. May would always let him mix, even if she had to pretend to not see him sipping from the big spoon in the pitcher. Loving a trickster meant she knew how to raise one.
His motherâs love was sugar sweet. It was in the cookies she baked, the kisses sheâd press against his broken skin, and in the confectionery words sheâd whisper to him before bedtime. As the years passed by, May would end up repeating herself and the âi love yousâ were more for her instead of himâlike a mantra she needed to remind herself of who she was. But Luke always understood. When her voice would fail and tears would replace it, Luke learned to wipe away what his father left behind for him to take care of.
His identical chocolate irises watched hers turn to emerald, and it was then he knew that too much sugar could make everything rot.
THALIA GRACE [eros-áźĎĎĎ]
There was always this intensity whenever he was with Thalia Grace, the daughter of Zeus. And she made sure he always knew itâa static spark igniting between the two of them as soon as their eyes met in the streets of Charleston. Like him, Thalia always made sure to get what she wanted, two north poles of a magnet bullheading through life to get what theyâre owed. By that same evening, they were elbow-deep in the golden dust of a dragon that had come home to find two bushy-browed little freaks with arrogance quadruple their size.
Luke and Thalia were a match made in hellâone always trying to outdo the other to get the upper hand when it comes to control. And at 12 years old, it was the first time Luke had ever had anyone fight by his side. But they were both short fuses and she always set him alightâa glint of her father rushing through her glare so hot that it burned blue. He would do anything to keep her attention on him since grabbing devotion by force is all heâs ever known. Moving quickly and being in her face was the only way to remind his mother of her affection so he assumed the same would go with her. That, and he couldnât help being extra fidgetyâ being a son of Hermes meant he couldnât sit still for long.
Though with Thaliaâs growing annoyance of Luke, it was established that their dependence on each other was one of necessity to survive the odds stacked against them. She was repelled by what made them so similar, hubris that blinded them from wanting to figure out the difference between surviving and living. There was a poison of hate in their love for one another. A shame in wanting a love that understood the attraction that linked them so early on in life, however innocent.
Both were too alike and were burned the same.
They burned each other. A type of selflessness and selfishness that battled each other for balance, so close but so far away.
There was always something about Thalia that blistered at his confidence. A forbidden part of her he couldnât bear. Itâs why he spit words of acid instead of encouragement once he realized the Furies wanted her the most when they were running for their lives, Luke was always the fastest runner anywayâdragging little Annabeth up Half-Blood Hill and by the time he realized heâd left her for dead she became a hero (he admits now that he couldâve run circles and saved her too; he just didnât want to).
Thalia Grace gave everything for this love. But she sure as hell never trusted him to do the same for her.
The spark they shared was snuffed out that day. And Luke continued to burn without her.
ANNABETH CHASE [philia- ĎΚΝίι]
Luke Castellan had never been chosen for anything before. Growing up in the mortal world, he was used to watching families eat together through restaurant windows and children playing in parks that he would pass by, taking slower turns around the block so he could imagine what it felt like to be wanted. Luke was never once beckoned to take part, but he accepted long ago that he didnât really belong anywhere.
It was nice to think about though.
The daughter of Athena doesnât remember it anymore, something so trivial in that big brain of much more important thoughtsâbut when she reached her hand out to him instead of Thalia (after almost breaking his skull in with a rusty hammer), it meant everything to him. The kid thought he was a monster at first sight, and she still chose him after everything.
Annabeth Chase grew up idolizing him and he thrived because of it.
Like ambrosia, Luke was strengthened by her faith and it made him feel powerful. Having the daughter of Athena in his life was like being awarded a gold medal. He loved Annabeth like she was his biggest prize, gleaming on a shelf for him to admire when he was feeling down about himself. Both him and Thalia raised her with pride; with little to no material possessions, they learned to make something out of nothingâand they made it golden. He chased that feeling and it made him greedy for her affectionâshe announced his place in this world of cruelty. The harsh hands of fate were gilded by Midas himself as long as he had Annabeth. And she put him on a pedestal tooâan unattainable goal in her mind that the highest form of glory was to be like her older brother and best friend.
Luke Castellan was finally good at something, and he had the proof to show for it in the shape of a small girl with inquisitive eyes. With her, all of his answers were right. To choose each other and be reciprocated with equal fervor helped him idealize what it felt like to win in life.
However Annabeth was not just his best student, but a prodigy that learned to outplay the trickster. An intellect like hers was never meant to corrode in a dusty, dark corner.
YOU [agape- áźÎłÎŹĎΡ]
Plato wrote that humans were once created wholeâ with four arms, four legs, and two faces fused back-to-back for the entirety of their mortal existence. They were at peace, and how could you not be?
With your soulmate at your side, you could face anything, even the gods. And eventually Zeus felt threatened by their power, in knowing that humans could be invincible against any pain, suffering, and doubt as long as their soul was physically and intimately tied with their other half. So he separated humans from their soulmates in a snap of a finger. It was just another thing that jealousy would take away from humankind by immortal beings that would never understand what it means to live with an ending.
Thereâs a misconception that love is being together in our original state until the gods took it away. But in fact, it was written to be that love is the desire to become whole with someone else, in addition to yourself. Love is the choice to spend your life trying to find your other halfâas we are destined to roam until we have someone to share the rest of our time. Humans have long accepted that we donât know when the end will comeâbut the act of searching for our person to share it with, that is love.
Love is the ultimate sacrifice to meet your partner wherever theyâre at, to make a home out of the rubble of your past and still choose it anyway knowing that the both of you will go hand in hand into the future. It isnât glory like heâd convinced himself in the past; itâs not accomplishing some heroic feat worth the recognition of the godsâhe knows by now that he couldnât give a single shit about them. The answer had always been right in front of him, unwavering against the test of time with fluttering amethyst eyes and laughter that renders him senseless.
Why go through all that trouble? one might ask. But that is also his answer.
Fate had never cut him looseâ tumbling down Mount Tamalpais was one of the many proofs of that, and with nothing else to do, Luke comes to the conclusion that loving you is a lifelong commitment he made to make more time with you.
Shitty deal, he thinks, trying to beat Kronos at his own domain without anyoneâs help must have been a waste for it all to end so pathetically.
But loving you was a choice he made every day, even in your absence. Itâs his reminder and solemn vow that loving you could never be a waste. Luke laments not being able to take you to meet his mother, or giving you the white house with the big bay windows, but by giving up his life, honor, and whatever glory is still attached to the name Luke Castellanâ it must be worth it as long as youâre living the life you deserve.
Even if it means heâs not part of it, he hopes youâre still searching for him too.
â
In the end, even as he falls to his death, he finds himself calling out to his father for the last time. His plea reaches deaf ears of courseâbut he isnât begging anymore. Luke Castellan thanks his father for the first and last time in his life and embraces his losses if it meant that he mattered. If not to the gods, then to his mother. To Annabeth. Thalia, even for a short moment, and you.
Especially to you.
Unwavering and without question, to live to the fullest is to have been by your side walking through the woods of Camp Half-Blood and hearing the sound of your cackles through the air, sending animals scattering from something he said.
Because to be loved despite everything he has done, everything he will doâ Luke thinks he must be the luckiest man to have ever lived.
Death blankets the weary traveler, and time is an unflinching hand pulling him through a rip in reality. Heâs gone in the blink of an eye, falling in reverse to where he needs to be next.
Somewhere, Atropos raises her scissors away from the indelible strand of his life force as she takes a breath and sits back, her sisters unable to do anything else but watch. This boy was becoming more trouble than what even the gods knew he was worth.
Luke Castellan must be lucky, indeed.
â-
Ding.
450, 451, 452, 453âŚ
A wet cough from a satyr next to you disrupts the silence in the elevator up to Olympus; you give him a sideways glance that makes him shift closer to the door with what you hope is a blush and not a fever. Itâs warm and stuffy in this 3x4 crystalline box that shoots towards the heavens, and a bit crowded for a weeknightâthough you suppose it is the Winter Solstice.
You havenât been back here since your ex-boyfriend stole the master bolt.
Thereâs a moment where you wonder if the Fates have ever found your predicament funny, but then the satyr sneezes with a boom.
537, 538, 539, 540âŚ
Itâs almost dusk now as clouds roll through the night sky and into the distance. Frost lines the metal frame of the elevator shaft and if youâre flying at the speed of light, it doesnât seem to be a problem. But this trip is taking much longer than you thought it would for a decision you made on a whim.
You still have a final to take in the morning, and Annabeth wasnât answering your callsâthen her location on Find My iPhone sprung from San Francisco to the middle of Manhattan from the span of your trip on the Long Island Railroad.
Something was up. The sense of something important trickled down your spine like second nature. Canât this thing go any faster?
It was second nature for you by now to know when something was up, especially with the trio. Youâd always make the time for them. Besides, your life has been a little too quiet lately. Being an adult demigod does that; thereâs no monsters that bump in the night anymore, just the ones in your head and the ones that make you take finals three days before Christmas.
âŚ600.
Ding.
Weaving through what seems to be a celebration fit for the gods, your glove-clad hands push through the sea of minor godlings, heroes, and Olympians. Aphrodite sends you a wink that makes you feel hot to the touch before you realize Hestiaâs eyes are also on you, the both of them clearly whispering about your treacherous love life. You shove your gloves and scarf into your jacket pocket. Bowing your head lightly in greeting, you keep walking further into the grand hall.
It seemed you were always a hot topic up here on Olympus. Great.
The music is so loud you can feel it in your chest, thumping away to the accelerated beat of your heart and by the time you grab a glass of ambrosia-spiked champagne to help with the lump in your throat, you hear the sound of your name in the midst of all the chaos.
A gentle hand grasps your shoulder then, and itâs Percy Jackson adorning a cup of punch and brand new wispy white tendrils that hang across his face. Thereâs a story that should follow, but he gapes at you like a fish out of water. Looking up at him (this boy grows like a weed!), both of your confused faces mirror each other as you sidle out words heâs still able to hear over the music, âWhatâs the celebration for? And why have none of you been answering my calls?â
The son of Poseidon swallows hard, until the smell of salt and sea foam surrounds you and you find yourself staring at the god of the sea himself, standing alongside him. With a smile soft like rippling water, he gently says, âIâll leave you two to it. And Iâll call your father and stepmother over. Good to see you,â Poseidon says your name as he takes his exit. You hoped it was a good thing then, that he knew you.
Percy wondered why he was always left to make the difficult decisions.
He almost sounds like his father when he speaks, calling for your attention again as he clears his throat.
âListen, I need to tell you something, and I think we shouldâŚâ
Shaking your head, your eyes are scanning across the room, meeting Annabethâs as she drops the hand of the minor god sheâs dancing with and makes her way over to you. From the other side of the room, Poseidon pushes your father in your direction as he juggles two golden goblets in each hand, led by his wife as they almost float towards you.
âWhatever it is, spit it out Perce. Your audience is growing by the minute.â
âHey princess, whatcha doing here? Donât you have a test tomorrow?â You dad grins, nudging your shoulder and handing you one of the goblets. Ariadne presses a kiss against your temple and you smile, taking a sip before hearing Annabethâs converse squeak to a stop next to you.
âSomeone better tell me whatâs going on right now,â your eye twitches and then you see Annabethâs new strands of silver that frame her face as she grabs your arm and nestles against it.
âIâŚumâŚâ the sandy-haired boy begins, and then your dad groans and you elbow him hard, wine spilling from his lips as his wife giggles like the sound of tinkling bells and youâre about to strangle the teenager on the marble tile heâs planted on.
âLukeâsâŚâ
âDead.â
Percyâs worried voice intermingles with a new one you havenât heard before, like a crackling sound that leaves a metallic taste in your mouth, and then a girl shows her faceâblack eyeliner and silver jewelry clinking against each other as she looks into your eyes and blue meets purple.
So you start laughing. Cackling even, as your head nods slightly, and after theyâve given you a moment to compose yourself you take a big gulp of the drink in your right hand to then chase it with the one on your left.
âYouâve gotta be kidding me. Heâs not dead,â you insist, and everyone looks at you like youâre insane, even your father, the god of insanity himself. Ariadneâs hand caresses the nape of your neck as she whispers, âMaybe we should take a seat outside, darlingâŚâ
âNoâŚNo! I mean it,â you say almost incredulously, a hiccup slipping past your lips when you take in too much air. âThat motherfucker doesnât have the audacity to die and if he did, I would know.â
âThis is how weâre letting you know,â Annie murmurs, before Percy sighs and his shoulders fall heavy with what seems to be the weight of the world, âSheâs right. Heâs not dead.â
A myriad of responses blur in the space around you, all going hazy as you blink and stay focused on Percy.
âItâd be too easyâŚâ you murmur, nodding again like youâre convincing yourself of the fact. Annabeth rubs circles into your forearm and you realize you havenât breathed since the daughter of Zeus made her entrance, âIâd know if he was dead.â
Thalia Grace looks you up and down thoughtfully, âSo youâre the collateral damage.â
âThalia!â
Annabeth exclaims, her hand tightening around yours and you know deep down sheâs rejoicing at the news of Lukeâs survival. But for yourself, you were unsure if you felt the same, almost chuckling at the irony of almost all of Lukeâs favorite people in the same room as the gods he swore to overthrow, âThatâs me. You were a tree the last time I saw you.â
âThatâs me. I kicked him off a cliff, thought it wouldâve done the job, but heâs always been too stubborn.â
A smile spreads across both your faces. You think about Luke interrupting your date last month by barging into your apartment and how that was tough enough to explain to your roommate, much less if you tried to tell your parents and best friends in the middle of a Christmas party.
You make the choice to keep Lukeâs visits a secret. It doesnât come as difficult as you thought it would.
Hermes bumps into your little group, eyes focused on his caduceus as it pings with different messages. The rest of you go quiet, mirth dimming despite the smile on the messenger godâs face and the kids take that as their cue to exit.
âWhatâs happening? A group like this, and with you making an appearance,â he nods in your direction, âMust be something special.â He nudges your dad, and youâve forgotten that theyâve been best friends for millenia.
âYour kidâs not dead. Youâd know that if you were nosy in the right places,â Dionysus says through a gulp of wine, turning and walking away nonchalantly, making you smile. Hermes looks at you with his face a mix of shock and appreciation, though youâve done nothing to earn it. He follows your father with a gust of wind billowing behind his traveling feet.
Those two are more trouble than you and Luke were.
Biting your cheek, you turn to Ariadne and scoff, âSoâŚ. Do you think I should tell my dad that the other campers snuck into the party half an hour ago?â
Your stepmother laughs, her eyes following her love across the ballroom, choosing to let everyone enjoy the Winter Solstice for once.

"if it's okay for poc to be cast as originally white characters then why can't we cast white people for poc characters"
Great question I have a wonderful answer for you
to start this is about a post I saw about Leah playing Annabeth Chase in the Percy Jackson show. Someone in the comment section was complaining about it and saying that they think a white person should be casted for Hazel if there's ever a live action heros of Olympus. This person claimed that if race has no meaning when casting a black perosn for Annabeth, then why would it matter for Hazel?
here's where this person is so incredibly wrong that it confuses me on what their brain is used for if not to make a complete thought. Hazels race was one of the most important things about her backstory
Hazel was a woc in there 1940s she went to a school for colored children. She legit experienced segregation. The whole reason that she had a connection to Leo is because she went to school with his grandfather sammy and the only reason she knew sammy was because of that school for colored children. Just that is enough to tell her that yes her race does in fact have a meaning and isn't something you should change
then the person in the comment section started talking about Frank.. then Leo and then piper. Basically they ranted on and on about any poc character
Let's start with Leo now. I'm bringing back the hazel point because again the only reason that he and Hazel had a funky connection at the beginning of moa is because of that school for colored children. Leo's Hispanic heritage is also important when concerning how his life with his mother was up till he died. One of the reasons he ran away from his aunts house was because she was religious and constantly called him the devil.
what about Frank? Well his Chinese heritage connected him to Poseidon which made him related to Percy which isn't massively important but you know it's a plot point so I see no point in getting rid of it
and piper? One of the first things we find out about piper is that she is bullied for being cherokee. The FIRST thing we see of piper interacting with characters besides Jason and Leo is her experiencing racism. It is insane that some people think that's just a thing that could be thrown away. Her Cherokee heritage also relates to her main character development in the trials of Apollo and lots of her "wisdom" is old cherokee stories her grandpa would tell her
and tell me one fucking moment in the series where Percy or Jason's race was important. Other than them being Greek/roman because they're all Greek and Roman so shut up
oh but since everyone's complaining about Annabeth being black in the show that must mean that her being white in the books is SOOOOO important
... it's not. In fact she's literally 1000x tanner than most of y'all depict her in the "canon" fanart so... yeah. And those of y'all saying "what about her being blonde that's her main character thing blah blah blah" I'm sorry is this the 2000s??? Blondes being dumb is a horribly outdated stereotype that is only ever used in a joking manner now back when the lightning thief was written in was a thing used against blonde women but now it isn't.
You know a certain group that is targeted and deemed dumb because of how they look? People of color, specifying black women.
Annabeth Chase being black is probably one of the best casting decisions ever, and I say this knowing that race wasn't the main thing when casting. Leah is the perfect person to play Annabeth and I will die on that hill. She has the script determination and the emotional range that makes her the perfect candidate for Annabeth.
If Annabeth Chase were real she would love Leah and she would hate you all for saying Leah isn't her.
Rant ended. Get your heads out of your asses before you say more racist shit.

i only want you to want me.
summary: clarisse refuses to accept the fact that she likes you until her siblings push her to admit it by setting you up on a date with the one and only percy jackson.
pairings: clarisse la rue x fem aphrodite!reader
spoiler: fluff, semi slow burn?, super cute
â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~
it was around 5pm, clarisse sat at the dining hall scraping away after a massive food fight started by luke, it was punishment for the stunt she had pulled at the capture the flag game today, clarisse thought that getting her spear broken was punishment enough but chiron thought differently.
âneed any help?â a voice spoke from behind clarisse, scaring her due to the fact clarisse had no clue there was someone behind her, she quickly turned around only to find possibly the most beautiful women sheâs ever seen, clarisse felt a weird sensation in her chest.
âwho are you?â clarisse spoke softly for once in her life, almost scared that nothing would come out. Oddly enough she felt weird around this mysterious person almost as if she were in a trance.
âim Y/N, from the aphrodite cabin. You must be clarisse? chiron told me, well forced me actually to come out here and help you.â Y/N? a beautiful name was the only thought going through clarisses mind, the next words that came out of clarisses mouth were hoarse, her mouth felt dry but her hands felt sweaty, she knew what this was, âcharms speakâ the ability only gained if you were a child of aphrodite.
âwhatâd you do?â clarisse refused to let this power take hold of her and took slow and calm breaths to ease her racing heart.
âto put it simply some kid ran into me back there and i did kind of use my charms speak to get him to steal from chiron..â this surprised clarisse as you had seemed so innocent but she out of all people knew how looks could deceive.
âwell are you just going to stand there or pick up a mop and a bucket?â clarisse spoke harshly as she continued to scrub the food on the walls
â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~
âhey is that clari i see?!â Y/N spoke whole heartedly as she ran up to give clarisse a hug, which she quickly put a stop to.
âfirst donât call me that and secondly lower your voice.â clarisse had barked out, you knew clarisse had meant her words with the way she chewed the inside of her cheek, since that day, months ago spent cleaning the mess hall, you and clarisse had spent a lot of time together which lead to a lot of things, one a new found hatred for percy jackson and two a new found crush for the one and only clarisse la rue.
âwhy, what are we doing?â Y/N spoke in a hasty whisper while looking around childishly.
âi wanted to watch percy jackson practice archery, iâm trying to figure out who his father is. Thereâs no way someone with hermes as there father could beat a minotaur, itâs either heâs lying! or his father is someone of great power and i want to know who.â clarisse spoke as she walked into the archery practice grounds making eye contact with Y/N taking in all her beautiful features until a wild arrow came flying towards Y/Nâs eye.
âholy shit Y/N look out!-â it was mere seconds before the arrow was inches away from Y/Nâs face, clarisse reached a hand out to grab it, but her reaction time wasnât quick enough.
Y/N shut her eyes as quickly as possible waiting to feel a sharp pain on the side of her face but after a minute of pure deafening silence Y/N opened her eyes to see an arrow inches away from her face and a hand gripping it, holding it in place, immediately Y/N looked over to make sure clarisse was undamaged. Clarisse was perfectly fine except for the scowl plastered on her face as she looked at the person holding the arrow.
You looked up to get a good look at the person and to your surprise itâs percy jackson himself, âpercy? how the hell did you do thatâ Y/N quickly forgot about her hatred toward percy and gave him a firm hug, glad to keep both of her eyes.
clarisse glared at this hug that lasted way to long for her liking, she watched as her enemy and her Y/N got chummy with eachother, she watched until she couldnât take it anymore and stormed off to her cabin.
Y/N now engulfed in her conversation with percy hadnât noticed that clarisse left.
â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~
âgod clarisse just admit it, no one gets upset that much at their âfriendâ for talking with their enemy, you obviously have feelings for her.â clarisses sibling spoke, annoyed that clarisse had just talked her ear off for hours on end about your conversation with percy, all her sibling wanted was sleep.
âugh i donât fucking like Y/N!â clarisse groaned and threw herself onto her bed, wallowing in self pity, it had been months since you first met clarisse and ever since that day she had done nothing but talk on and on about you and her siblings had ENOUGH. They had to put a stop to this absolute bullshit and they knew just how to do it.
â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~
âlisten iâve liked you for a really long time and i know i havenât communicated it well but i just want you to know that since the day we met iâve always had my eye on youâ
âŚ
silence filled the room.
âwhat.â Y/N spoke whilst still in her pajamas as her door was slightly creaked open she had a blank stare while looking at percy jackson.
âjust go on a date with me is what iâm asking.â percy sighed and handed her a note.
Y/N read it before doing anything else and immediately said yes upon reading the note. âJust give me an hour or two to get readyâ
Y/N welcomed percy into her shared dorm and told him to wait on her bed while she took a shower, soon the water started running and about 20 minutes into her shower there was a knock at the cabin door.
âpercy do you mind getting it?â she didnât hear a response back but did hear the door opening.
âY/N do you want to come with me to the mess hall for breakfast?â clarisse spoke not making eye contact until she smelt the faint scent of cologne, her eyes darted to the door way as her eyes landed on percy jackson, what the hell was he doing in her Y/Nâs dorm?
âoh sorry clarisse sheâs in the shower right now.â percy spoke softly. The moment clarisse heard this she almost fucking bursted right there, right before she could start screaming obscenities at him, he shut the door, right in her face. If he wasnât dead before he surely was now.
percy waited patiently for you to get ready and once you did, you looked like the most beautiful girl in the world, he was very lucky to be taking you on a date, and he had it all planned out too, he was going to take you through the flower fields where a picnic was set up, then hand you over a necklace he had bought you and give you a bouquet of flowers, but of course since he had wronged clarisse in every which way possible this wasnât going to go as planned.
The walk to the picnic, clarisse followed a few feet behind. As they ate on a picnic blanket, three snakes had came up to them. The necklace percy had bought, stolen. The final straw was when the flowers percy had hand picked all morning were found in the bushes, cut up and tossed. Percy was in fact pissed and knew it was all due to clarisse, he also knew she was watching close by so in an attempt to get back at her he grabbed Y/N by the waste and kissed her passionately.
A loud thud was all that could be heard as percy suffered a blow to the stomach and a firm hand yanked your wrist in the opposite direction towards the cabins.
a part of you was worried for percy but the other was also worried about your own safety as due to the darkness you couldnât see who had grabbed you.
That was until you were forcefully shoved into a cabin and placed on a bunk bed where the light was then turned on, the tension from your body eased up as you saw the curly hair you grew to love so much.
âclarisse whyd you do that?â Y/N spoke in a sweet tone to tell clarisse she wasnât mad. Clarisse took a seat next to Y/N on her bed and turned to make eye contact with Y/N
âi know my siblings put percy up to this as a way to get back at me and make me realize i have a crush on you or something, iâm not saying i do have a crush on you but itâs not like i wanted to see you date my enemy especially when your the only person i want to myself, well not in a possessive girlfriends way but also in that way? so i guess i do have a crush on you, all i know is iâm really confused and i want nothing more than for you to kiss me inste-â clarisse was cut off with a pair of lips smashing against hers.
âbetter? you were rambling so now itâs my turn, i know that they put percy up to this, it was in a note that percy have to me and i had agreed to go on that date knowing that youâd find out and ruin it, my hope was that youâd come out and confess to me but i didnât think youâd actually punch percy, i guess it doesnât matter because that was really hot clariâ Y/N smiled.
clarisse felt her face heat up as she chose her next words carefully. âthis means we can date now right?â clarisse was surprised she wasnât stuttering as she really didnât know how to word this, she hadnât been all that good at expressing how she felt.
âof course we can clarisseâ Y/N gave an innocent look before speaking again. âthis also means i can do thisâ
Y/N leaned in to kiss clarisse again, catching clarisse by surprise and then pulling away only a couple inches so clarisse could speak.
âplease do that againâ
âiâll do it as many times as you want pretty girlâ
â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~

Time Out
Summary: In which Clarisseâs tiny girlfriend puts her in time out after learning about what she did to Percy.
Pairing: Clarisse La Rue x smaller!coquette!fem!reader
Warning: Percy nearly drowning, mentions of death, mentions of violence, Aphrodite coded girlfriend, use of pet names (buttercup, princess, doll)
A/N: That middle picture tho!! ik Dior is like only 5â6 but Iâm going with the book description of Clarisse so sheâs 6â1. Mainly b/c I <3 tall women. Also because itâs funnier to have a giant be scolded by someone more then a feet shorter then her.
Clarisse La RueâŚClarisse La Rue, favorite daughter of Ares, a loose canon, someone not to mess with. She doesnât listen to anyone and doesnât care, letting her do whatever she wants. But everyone has a soft spot and hers happens to be her little girlfriend who is marching up to her right now.
âLa Rue!â she yelled getting the larger girl attention as she marched. She looked visibly upset and rightfully so. âA word with youâ she drags her girlfriend by the arm.
âWoah woah. Calm down buttercup,â Clarisse says before the dragging stopped.
âWhatâs this that I heard of? You nearly drowning a kid in the bathroom yesterday night?â she looks at her girlfriend. âIs it trueâ she waits for an answer but Clarisse doesnât respond.
âMaybe I did. Maybe I didnât.â Clarisse says with a smirk âWhatta gonna do about it buttercup?â
âWell if what was said was true then I guess Iâm going to have to put you in time outâ she says.
âReally? Time out princess, Iâm not a child. Thatâs the best you could do? Oh Iâm so scared that I will be put in time outâ Clarisse says mockingly.
âFine. You left me no choice⌠I guess your on a kissing ban for a monthâ you say as a last resort. You know your Clarisse, she hate rules but she hates it more when she canât have your affection. From your kisses to your hugs to you latching on her like a koala. Sheâd always act annoyed when you did PDA but deep down she loves the fluffy cheesy affection you have towards her.
This threat worked as the words you say reach her ears. âWHAT!â she exclaims as she heard that she would not get your kisses for a month for nearly drowning Percy, âYou canât be serious. Doll please youâre not serious are you? I didnât even hurt him. In fact he hurt me and got me soaked in water.â She tries to flip the switch saying she was the victim in the end, but this doesnât work on you as you only shook your head.
âSo now youâre lying to me. I guess two months it isâ you say upping your punishment.
âOh come on buttercup, we both know you canât handle two months without showing me some loveâ Clarisse tries to rebut in order to make you back down. Oh how wrong she was as the next words that came out of your mouth where that you uped it to 3 months. Everyone at camp including Clarisse knew that you were the only one who could make her do something and this made her want to do something for your forgiveness.
âCome on doll, now thatâs just cruel. 3 months without your kissesâ she pouts. âWell I could remove the banâŚâ this made her eyes light up as she would do anything for your kisses. âYou could go apologize to Percyâ you said and she huffed at the statement.
âBut I donât want toâ she said all grumpy. âFine I guess itâs 3 kissless months for Clarisse La RueâŚâ you said nonchalantly. As Clarisse heard this she quickly changed her mind âIâll go apologize to Percy.â
âThere, now wasnât that easy?â you said to her as she still looked grumpy and rolled her eyes.
âYeah yeahâ she said all annoyed but she became less annoyed after you tiptoed to kissed her cheek.
âThere there. After you apologize to Percy Iâll give you a real kissâ you said and this incentive made Clarisse run to find the little demigod. Because there is nothing in this world Clarisse La Rue loves more than her little girlfriend and making her happy. Even if it means making herself look like a fool or softening her mean girl image for her kisses.

Cannot express how much I, a women without children, who regularly has to deal with people assuming I must have them because of my age, and after all what good am I as a woman if I donât have kids - hate hate hate the idea that Vax and Keyleth need to have a kid. I know thatâs not the point of people who are suggesting it. I know itâs meant to be romantic or pinning or something sweet, but the suggestion is deeply disturbing to me.
Let Keyleth grieve her lost love. Let her live her life healed or healing, just as herself. Let her find a new love who can actually be a part of her life, if thatâs something she decides she wants. (Or likely several new loves, given her lifespan.) Let them choose to have kids or not, whatever they decide together.
We already have a Vax Jr., heâs Vex and Percyâs kid. If you want a romantic gesture, thereâs oodles of options that do not involve getting someone pregnant.
Let Vax have an end. How about in 2025 Keyleth, Vox Machina, and Critters learn to let Vax go. Please.
