A Moment
SxSG Aftermath One-Shot
Shadow was quiet for the rest of the party, but that was to be expected. He wasn't completely out of it, though, which was a pleasant surprise. He talked with the others, had a long conversation with Blaze about something or other, sat with the chao for a while, and smiled at a joke Sonic made– when he wasn't looking, of course. If the blue hedgehog ever realized Shadow thought he was funny, then they'd never hear the end of it.
But once Tails and Cream fell asleep under the tree, the two bushy fox tails wrapped around them both, everyone started to separate. Sonic picked up his brother and carried him on his shoulders, Blaze and Silver disappeared into wherever it was they came from, and Team Dark went back to Rouge's place.
Rouge had an apartment above her club. It wasn't big, definitely not big enough for three lifeforms, but Rouge stubbornly refused to move, and Shadow never thought to ask her to, and Omega used to live in a closet, so anything was an upgrade, really. Rouge swore under her breath as she kept missing the lock on the door, her numerous keychains bouncing around and reflecting starlight. Omega offered to shoot the door apart, but Rouge reminded him about their insurance rates, and Shadow let out a noise that might've been a laugh. Rouge took that as a win.
Once they were inside, they went up the stairs, and Rouge immediately flopped onto her fluffy sofa, stretching out her wings and letting out a yawn as loud as she could make. "Good Gaia, that was a long day."
"Hmmph. Tell me about it." Shadow amiably rolled his eyes, sitting at the edge of the sofa, barely finding room with the bat all spread out.
"TECHNICALLY, YOU ARE CORRECT." Omega informed her. "AS THE TIME DISTORTION MADE THE DAY LONGER THAN–"
"Yes, big guy, I know. Maybe I shoulda taken a nap in White Space. Whoo! The paperwork on this is gonna be insane."
"IF YOU SO WISH, I CAN BURN THE PAPERS."
"Tempting. We'll see." Rouge sat up, rolling her shoulders and sighing. "Might actually crash here for the night. I know I'm usually upside-down, but everything just aches, you know?"
Shadow nodded, staring at the floor.
Rouge waited a moment, watching him carefully. She glanced at Omega, who wisely figured out that something involving those pesky "emotions" was happening, and that was not his area of expertise, so he simply let Rouge take the lead.
"So," Rouge said quietly, scooting a bit closer to Shadow. "Do you want to talk about it?"
Shadow shook his head.
"You wanna ignore it?"
He shook his head again.
"Okay. You want advice, comfort, distractions? Weighted blanket? Coffee beans?"
"Just..." Shadow closed his eyes, trying to figure out what he did want.
Rouge let him take all the time he needed. After all, Shadow wasn't used to being in touch with his emotions, especially not after such a wreck of a day.
Finally, after a long pause, Shadow said, in an uncharacteristically quiet voice, "I just need a moment. Just one. To let it out."
Rouge shrugged. "Knock yourself out. You earned it. Just try not to break the floor agai–"
Shadow let out an ear-splitting scream, gripping onto his knees so tight she was surprised the thread on his gloves didn't snap. Omega immediately leapt forwards, prepared for an attack, only to realize this was, once again, part of the "feelings" department. Both of them stared at Shadow, Rouge with wide eyes, until Shadow stopped screaming and then, even more shockingly, started loudly sobbing.
For a while, nobody moved. Omega glanced towards the door, but then decided to stay, watching Shadow carefully as he continued to cry. Then Rouge spread a wing over him, wrapping it over his shaking arms. She knew Shadow wasn't a touchy guy, so that was all she planned to do, until he practically threw himself at her in a hug, clinging to her and burying his face in her shoulder. She stiffened, and then hugged him back, running her fingers through his quills in a way that reminded him of someone else.
"Alright, bud." she said softly. "Let it out. We'll be here."

“That’s it, I’m gonna be late for work. You two,” Mrs. Wakowski gestures towards Sonic and Tails, “keep away from Knuckles.”
“Roger that!” Sonic salutes dramatically, and Tails follows suit,
“Noted, Mrs. Wakowski,”
Mrs. Wakowski manages to phone another friend to give her a ride to work, still fuming, while Sonic shrugs and figures he’ll spend time with Tails. They leave the house to go for a walk- it was a beautiful day after all. Sonic picks up baseball gloves and a ball on the way out of the house, and Tails swishes his tails in excitement when he spots the objects, setting foot out of the house.
A few minutes later you walk in through the doors, a few bags in hand.
“Hellooo!” You call out.
With no response, you raise a brow. Usually, the trio greets you. You then remember Mrs. Wakosky having work, but that still doesn’t explain the other three. You shrug it off, unloading the groceries on the countertop. You wash a bowl of grapes, walking around with them on the search for your favorite echidna.
You first check out the workout room, but he’s nowhere to be found. Then, the couch where you’re expecting to find Sonic and tails, but still nothing. Eventually you make it to the attic where Knuckles resides, a grape being tossed into your mouth.
“Knux?”
He grunts in response, not bothering to turn his head towards you. You tilt your head at him, raising a brow. Then you finally ask him what’s on your mind;
“Knux, what are you doing on the floor?”
“I have been grounded.”
You think for a moment, then chuckle.
“Hun, that doesn’t mean you have to lie on the ground. I expected you to be the type to still train or work out while grounded,”
“I cannot go to the workout area,”
“Are you making up excuses? You? Surely you can still do pushups-and sit-ups,” you teased.
He swiftly sits up, exclaiming; “You are a genius!”
You giggle as he sets off to start doing pushups, doing them at an ungodly speed. You always were impressed by his strength, praising him often. Although he claimed that your praises meant nothing, you couldn’t help but notice the way he smiled and sped up whatever exercise he was doing at the time.
You watched him for a little while longer, eating your grapes before getting an idea. You stood next you him and he paused his now one-handed pushups, looking up at you,
“What do you want?” You knew he didn’t mean to sound rude, so you smiled and replied, “I was just thinking- what if I sat on your back as an extra challenge?”
You’ve done it before, he was the one to ask you to do it last time.
“Excellent idea! Though, that is no challenge for me.”
He got back into pushup position, and you quietly sat on his upper back, attempting to balance. Once he counted 10 more pushups, your hand hovered in front of his mouth, grape in hand. He froze for a second, analyzing it, before taking a bite and humming. From then on, you offered him a grape for every 10 pushups. It seemed like a good way to keep him going, as he seemed to speed up.
Once the bowl of grapes was finished, you encouraged him to take a break. It wasn’t easy of course, but you got him to hold off on pushups until you came back with a bowl of other fruit- peaches, apple slices, and mangoes. You came back only to find him doing sit-ups. You sighed and he told you between soft grunts- “I am not doing pushups, like you asked.”
“Well- yes, but the whole point was to give you a small break. How about let’s pause for a little and spend some time together instead?”
He squinted at you, glancing over at your soft smile- one he couldn’t resist. You grabbed a few pillows and blankets from around the house while you got Knuckles to pick a movie that he’d be interested in. When you came back, he hadn’t chosen one, claiming that he only wanted to watch something you would enjoy. Very sweet and all, but you wanted to make sure he didn’t just get up and start working out halfway through the movie. So, you picked three movies of varying genres, and he picked the action one out of them- the one you already assumed he’d like most.
As it played in the background, you asked him what had gotten him grounded.
“The blue hedgehog wants me to ‘relax,’” he answered with air quotes.
You nod, humming, focusing on the movie. After you’d gotten all snuggled up in the blankets and pillows, he sat a few feet away from you.
“You don’t have to be a stranger, y’know. Come on, sit closer,” You muttered in a low voice, not wanting to talk over the movie too much. He contemplated for a moment, sitting much closer to you now. You offer him an apple slice, holding it to his lips.
It doesn’t take long before he’s asking you about the movie and why people are doing certain regular human things, you enjoying his short excited comments. He punches the air and kicks his feet when he’s excited over a scene in the movie, too adorable.
Eventually, he gets tired out and you feel a weight on your shoulder. You smile at the scene before you- you’ve never seen him so calm and peaceful. You’ve seen him happy, you loved playing games with him and the boys, but this was different. Seeing him sleeping was something unusual, as he rarely slept around others. ‘This must mean he feels completely comfortable,’ you thought with a content expression.
You lean back, putting the plate of snacks aside, and his head falls to your chest. As it rises and falls, he snuggles into you in his sleep. You begin to gently pet his fur, taking a moment to press a soft kiss to it. He wraps his arms further around you, tugging you impossibly closer, then loosening his grip.
It doesn’t take long for you to follow him into dreamland, soft snores emitting from you. Your hand still on his quills, head resting on the pillow behind you.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Hours later, Sonic, Tails, and Mrs. Wakowski come back home only to find knuckles relaxing in your hold.
“Huh, I can’t believe I didn’t think of that. He does always seem to calm down around them.”
“I knew they had a thing for eachother!”
“Sonic! Shh, let them rest,”
Tails quietly closes the door, letting the two of you relax in eachother’s arms.

Strawberry shortcake and Hard things to talk about.
Got another Biolizard shadow au ic for y’all, I swear this was gonna be a short thing that just had fluff. I suddenly just started going off the rails and the lil devil on my shoulder egged me on to add angst.
Hope yall like it either way (gonna start putting these on A03 if I write a third thing and it ends up longer than this one)
————————————————————————
Amy concluded she was going to kill them when they arrived. She sat and stewed right in front of a large tartan pink picnic blanket adorned with many baked treats she had spent an entire morning slaving over to get everything to perfection. When she baked she didn’t do it half way.
It was getting to half past four, three o’clock she had told the blue hedgehog and had texted to Rouge as direct long distance communication with Shadow was practically non existent considering how scarce the beast hedgehog liked to make himself.
Many weeks of pleading and begging him to at least join one of her picnics had led to him finally relenting and agreeing on today's outing. The pink hedgehog's excitement was uncontrollable as she absolutely exploded in enthusiasm when he finally agreed. Rouge had to keep her grounded as her eager rambles about picnic locations and recipes to bake had overwhelmed the large hedgehog causing him to promptly leave with a chaos control.
Amy forgot how easily flustered the guy got when encountered with a reaction he had no idea how to respond to. She didn’t blame him for teleporting as quickly as he did, the confirmation of his attendance was all she needed to begin preparing for the picnic.
That was three days ago, and now she sat in a small secluded park outside of station square with her tasty baked treats getting stale by the second. So, yeah she was definitely gonna give those two a good hit with her hammer if they didn’t show up in the next 5 minutes.
Speaking of the devil, a blue burr dashed right up to her picnic blanket. Amy scrambled to keep her treats from flying off the blanket due to the wind generated by Sonic as he dusted himself off looking quite frazzled, it didn’t quell her anger at his tardiness.
“You better have a good reason for being more than an hour late” she chided, Sonic was picking at a branch that has somehow got lodged into his quills most likely on the way to the park. He peeped at all the delicious treats strewn about in front of him, it didn’t escape Amy’s notice the way his face scrunched up at her strawberry shortcake. With that attitude he was gonna receive a bonk on the head with her hammer regardless of a good reason for his current punctuality.
“Sorry Ames, had a bit of a blow up in Tails workshop, was making sure Tails was okay before jetting off” Sonic explained. Well that was definitely a good reason, she began to feel a little bad at her anger towards the blue hedgehog.
“Oh my gosh, is he okay?” Amy asked, her worry quickly eased by an adorable smile from Sonic.
“Yeah yeah, the explosion was just from a faulty invention of his, there was a heckuva mess but he’s all good” he gave a thumbs up to add to assurance
Amy sighed in relief, it was good to know the little fox hadn’t got himself hurt, Tails was usually the best with machinery but had the odd hiccup here and there.
Her relaxation was replaced with alertness as she watched Sonic reach towards her pound cake, Amy slapped the outstretched gloved hand which had Sonic bring it back to himself instantly. He pouted at her as he soothed his attacked hand, Amy only rolled her eyes at him.
“Don’t be rude! Shadow isn’t here yet y’know” she scolded, she loved to let people indulge in her baked goods but she believed proper etiquette was to wait for all her guests to be there first.
“Aww but we have no idea when he’ll even be here” the blue hero whined “it’s no problem if I have a piece”
“You’re a world renowned hero and can’t wait a little longer to have some cake?” she teased.
“I totally can! I just happened to not have had breakfast today, give a guy a break Ames” he protested “if was shadow instead of me you would of given him cake at the first chance”
“Maybe, but unlike you Shadow doesn’t gag at the sight of my strawberry shortcake”
“It’s not my fault it’s like the worst kind of cake” Sonic huffed. She was about to reach for the hilt of her hammer when the air began to feel hot, immediately she and Sonic braced themselves when a large field of energy popped just several feet in front of them. Just as quick as it was to appear the energy dissipated with a present Shadow replacing it. The chaos energy felt like static as it waved around the area for a moment before shadow coolly drove away the extra energy his chaos control generated.
The monstrous hedgehog searched the park for a moment before laying his eyes on the two tiny normal hedgehogs and Amy’s adorable picnic blanket under a large oak tree. It provided a nice shade from the glazing summer heat which Shadow quite liked so he began a tiny trek to the other two.
Amy had gotten used to Shadow's overwhelming presence quite quickly as did Sonic, she heard his heavy footsteps as he situated himself in front of the picnic. His large size provided additional shade from the sun which she greatly appreciated as she hadn’t expected the Temperature to rise as much as it did today. Shadow plopped himself down and awkwardly placed himself on his hind legs, his current position reminded Amy of a cat which was funny because she was sure he was only a hedgehog and lizard.
“Shadow! I’m so glad you're here” she exclaimed as she ran up to give his ankle a quick hug, he returned the gesture by placing his claws on her back gently “I managed to get Sonic here too! Isn’t that great”. The monstrous hedgehog turned to the blue hero and gave a nod of acknowledgement , Sonic returned it with a wink which Amy could have sworn had Shadow flustered for a second.
She left the ankle to return to the large blanket “I worked real hard this morning, I’ve got all kinds of tasty goods for us! I’ve got peanut butter cookie cups, rocky road, lemon drizzle, strawberry shortcake” she pointedly looked at Sonic at the last item, Shadow could only raise an eyebrow at the sudden hostility. “Oh! I also tried something new, they’re these coffee pasty knots, Rouge told me how much you love coffee Shadow so I wanted to give these a try”.
Shadows' fluffy ears perked up at the word coffee, he also couldn’t help the tinge of annoyance at his bat companion for letting slip his obsession with coffee beans. Rouge and the little hedgehogs in front of him were some of the few he trusted most, but he couldn’t help the need to keep things about himself to a minimum. He’d have a word with the bat about it later, as much as he dreaded it.
Sonic paid no attention to Amy’s list of pastries, face already stuffed with her iconic pound cake, he held two other slices in his hand. Amy commended herself for going the extra mile on the pound cake as she knew Sonic was an absolute sucker for it. She hoped he’d indulge in the other treats as she came prepared with the info that Shadow didn’t actually need to eat. It came in handy for a person like him considering his massive size and the amount of sustenance that would be needed to satisfy him if he needed to eat.
Luckily the chaos energy that inhabited every molecule of his body made the need for such a substantial amount of food non existent. Not to say he wouldn’t eat here and there, though Amy had heard he only ever ate bags of coffee beans. An odd choice of food to be consuming all the time but Amy didn’t want to judge, Shadow was an odd being in itself and she only really wanted to understand the guy. That’s what having him here for the picnic was about
Amy recalled months back when Shadow was consumed by his grief, he’d lost all he ever knew and loved to people who wanted to keep knowledge of his existence silenced. She remembered the news broadcasts that presented a monster in station square, lashing out at anything and anyone around him in reckless but anguished abandon. With hindsight she knew the fear of him was natural, but knowing his history as she did now, Amy just wanted Shadow's time on the planet to be wonderful.
She couldn’t forget, when she encountered Shadow staring upon what she later found out was his old enclosure on the abandoned ARK. He looked numb and far away, she had stood her ground and begged the giant from the depths of her heart to help the people of earth, she wasn’t sure why her words had seemed to have struck him as hard as they did but she was glad, his effort in stopping the eclipse cannon was palpable though he was greatly injured after the events and needed many weeks to recover.
She was taken out of her thoughts as Sonic began choking on what was probably his 4th serving of the pound cake, Amy rolled her eyes as the hedgehog hacked and coughed to dislodged the cake he was previously munching on. She ran over and gave him a few firm pats on the back that didn’t seem to do the job until a forefinger and thumb entered her view and flicked Sonic right on the back. It managed to dislodge the cake but the force of the flick had been too strong and sent sonic flying into some dirt a few feet away.
Amy felt bad, she really did, but she needed a second to hide her laughter at the sight, Shadow looked nonchalantly and quite a bit proud of his actions. Better for your face to be covered in earth than choking on a piece of her iconic pound cake Amy thought, she didn’t say it out loud as the expression Sonic had when he lifted himself out of the ground told her he wasn’t in the mood for teasing.
————————————————————————
Sonic was currently strewn lazily across Amy’s lap while Shadow had lay out onto his forearms not too far from them. Her treats had been significantly devoured by Sonic who decided to show what a glutton he could be today. She had clapped madly when she noticed Shadow pick up the coffee pastry between two enormous claws to give it a try, she couldn’t help herself as she hounded him on how it tasted. Shadow merely gave a “it’s good” in response which to her somehow translated to it’s the best thing ever and she squeaked in flatteration. He blushed heavily and she apologised for her excitement.
She stroked the blue hedgehogs quills, she adored the guy but she was bewildered at how he didn’t notice the amount of little twigs and leaves caught in his head, sleeping on a branch of a tree was all she got in response when pointed out the reason for their presence in his quills.
Shadow looked just as lazy as Sonic did, as he lay with his eyes closed. She appreciated how calm and relaxed the beast hedgehog looked, it was far cry from the rage filled monster he was months ago, he used to looked like the living embodiment of anger. She recalled when Sonic described his first encounter with the lizard hedgehog, it was like the air itself was boiling with Shadows rage as he and Sonic had a standoff in the centre of station square.
The ferocity at which Shadow came at Sonic on that day was terrifying, meeting again with Sonic upon prison island, she was met with the blue hedgehog recovering from an attack that Tails deducted was a poisonous sort of chaos energy Shadow was able to generate. It was no wonder how Sonic got captured so easily. Though she couldn’t imagine Shadow attacking any of them with such a move now, she knew he wouldn’t admit it but he clearly had grown to like the lot of them.
She turned her attention away from Sonic to look at Shadow, his nose would twitch every so often, probably all the pollen surrounding them giving him a bit of irritation, she noticed Sonic’s Hay fever acting up a few times during the picnic, she outstretched her hand to the nose as it was the closest thing of Shadow near her, he opened his eyes at the touch of her tiny hand on his nose and sat up a bit.
“I’m really glad you're here shadow” she expressed, his face turned absolutely red and he plopped back onto his forearms, greatly trying to hide his flushed face behind them as the assertion of Amy’s gladness for his presence warmed his heart a bit too much to handle.
“I second that” sonic exclaimed as he passively pointed his finger in the sky and then to shadow. Amy hoped the extra love would make Shadow absolutely beat red but Sonic's deceleration seemed to make the Large hedgehog think hard for a moment, he sat up completely, casting a shadow over the two little hogs and gave them a hard look.
“I don’t…deserve this” his deep voice rumbled out.
That had Amy puzzled, what did he mean by that? Though she realised she wasn’t going to get an answer by looking up cluelessly at him.
“Deserve what Shadow?” She questioned, the hard look he had melted into a look of regret and guilt,
“What I did I-“ he fumbled on his words for a moment, she knew conversation was hard for him but she was patient for an explanation of his sudden rejection of their affections “I hurt a lot of people, I hurt Sonicyou shouldn’t be so kind” he finally found the words.
She watched as he fidgeted with his claws, Sonic had sat up from her lap and looked pensive at the huge hedgehog. The atmosphere had gotten melancholic at the confession, it pieced together in Amy’s mind about Shadows usual behaviour, why he made himself scarce and his refusal to do anything with their group. The most Shadow would go out and do was the top secret missions with Rouge but that was mandatory due to his admission into GUN and Amy wouldn’t count that “getting outside”.
Even then the admission had been because GUN wanted to keep Shadow under some level of control, Rouge fought hard for Shadow to work with the defence force lest they decide to lock Shadow away or at worst put him down due to fear of his power. She knew Shadow hated it and the confession he just gave concluded the acceptance of such a job was punishment for events that transpired months ago.
The humongous hedgehog had come to some sort near peace at his currently life, but the lingering, persisting guilt of everything never left him, the guilt that his very existence got his family and many other innocent people killed, the guilt of his rage that he took out on the innocents of station square and Sonic who had done nothing but try and defend his home. But especially with what led to the near firing of the eclipse cannon, which could have destroyed the planet, the only thing that kept Maria as motivated as she was to get better and live on said planet. With him.
He dug his claws into his legs, the recollection of the events began to make his head hurt, Amy rose to her feet and beelined to a claw placed close enough for her to reach “Shadow, no no we really do love having you here! What happened to you was terrible, anyone would be as mad as you were” she asserted
“It doesn’t make what I did okay” he retorted, Shadow always made sure to keep his voice down, he possessed powerful chords due to his size but in the moment, he could feel his irritation rise, she wasn’t getting it.
“It doesn’t, you're right but you felt like everyone was against you, you had just woken up and everything was different and anyone you knew was gone!” Amy argued, shadow flinched at the reminder, it was true. His emergence from stasis was followed by his brain wracking to recollect everything that has previously happened, in that moment he could only remember panic, screams and a gunshot. It was a miracle he didn’t just tear Eggman in two when initially met with the scientist's presence.
Amy needed to be careful, she could feel Shadow beginning to growl resulting in vibrations being sent throughout the ground, it shook her up a bit but her resolve stayed strong. She didn’t want him to up and leave, thinking he didn’t deserve the bit of peace he was given today.
“They’re gone because of me, it was all cause of me” Shadow refuted, Amy didn’t know what to say, his pain ran so deep yet so fresh, to him the events hadn’t transpired 50 years ago, he was here with no people that even begin to comprehend that sort of pain
“Ohhhh my GOSH, SHADOW!” Sonic exasperated, Amy had forgotten he was still sitting on her picnic blanket as he rose up pointedly and marched over to where she stood with one of Shadows claws in her arms, “c'mon you’re waaaay smarter than this”.
Amy punched Sonic on his noodley arm, Shadow didn’t need the blue hedgehog being his cocky or passive right now, she wanted to handle the current situation delicately and Sonic was asking for a bonk with her hammer with that last response.
However he surprised her with the renewal of his last response, “you don’t seriously think I would have come out here if I knew you weren’t here?” Sonic asked
“You would have came for Amy…and the cake” shadow flatly responded as he looked down at the two hedgehog’s”
“I mean yeah” sonic sheepishly rubbed the back of his head “but I wanted to be here for you too, you disappear so often and it’s kinda really hard to find you usually”.
Shadow shrank at that, he may have wanted to keep to himself and be alone, but the declaration that Sonic made began to challenge the beliefs that he was better off in doing that.
“We really are glad you’re here with us Shads, Amy’s the most honest gal I know so don’t even try think she would lie, she know what she means when she says what she does” Sonic reasoned, Amy turned to him and let a warm smile melt on her face, she really did adore him.
“I’m not even mad about those fights we had back then, that move you pulled with your chaos energy was actually kinda sick I’m not gonna lie” Sonic admitted, he truly wasn’t lying “does that move work on robots cause it would really help me out when I’m giving Eggman's robots a good thrashing”.
Shadow was nonplussed, the blue hedgehog really just had a way of confusing the ever living chaos out of him, he couldn’t comprehend why the hero couldn’t hold a grudge. He first thought the blue hedgehog's kindness was all a charade,as for the first couple weeks as he recovered from his injuries sustained from the eclipse cannon incident, Sonic would visit from time to time and in the moment Shadow believed it was to gawk or just see how defeated he’d become. It hit shadow the reason was because Sonic genuinely cared about him.
It overwhelmed Shadow, the non-rational and impulsive part of his brain just wanted to pick Sonic up like a doll and shake him until it satisfied Shadow, he instead lay himself gently on the grass and screamed into the earth.
The trembling from the screeching Shadow did shake Sonic and Amy up a bit as the latter grabbed onto the blue hedgehog for balance, they looked fixedly at the monstrous hedgehog as he finished his muffled shouts onto the earth beneath him. He merely turned his large head towards the two afterwards looking fairly calmer which was much better than the meltdown he was clearly heading towards before.
“Do you feel better?” Amy asked as she unlatched herself from Sonic's waist.
Shadow's eyes swivelled about as he seemed to think the question over, he decided a simple nod would be best to answer.
Amy was glad to hear that, but she felt she was going to undo a bit of that release of emotion with what she was about to ask, though the time for the question seemed appropriate as she couldn’t image when she could next ask him given the chance
“Shadow… back on the ARK, when I found you and asked for your help, what made you change your mind?” She finally inquired, shadows eyes fully opened at the question, Sonic turned to her questionably.
“I mean! Um- you don’t have to answer that if you don’t want, I probably shouldn’t have asked anyway sorry!” She felt embarrassment fill her cheeks as Shadow sat up to look down at her tiny form. She wasn’t sure if it was an ignorant thing to ask, but the way Shadow stared down at her made her feel it was.
He looked away from her, she watched as his chest puffed out from a large inhale then deflated from the exhale he let out. “Someone…” Shadow hesitated for a second before continuing “on the ARK, before everything happened I had someone… a friend”.
Amy and Sonic watched as he carefully picked his words, she regret her question now as the memories Shadow tried to retrieve seemed so painful, yet he persisted “she was stuck on the ARK because of a sickness, but she really loved the earth, she made me love the earth” Amy noted how wistful he looked talking about this part of his life, “when the ARK was raided and she got…hurt, she asked me that when I got to earth, I’d do everything I could to protect it, because good people on earth deserved it… I forgot that” Shadow finished
“so when I asked…” Amy was jarred, beginning to fully understand the impact of what she thought was a small plea to the lizard hedgehog.
Shadow looked beat, it seemed such a confession had taken up most of his mental energy. Amy turned to Sonic who looked just as jarred as she felt, but then he spoke up “man shadow, that’s… a lot”.
Shadow grimaced, he agreed and yet again lay on his front, the poor guy looked like he wanted the earth to swallow him up, no doubt feeling a flurry of emotions at admitting such a thing.
“Hey I don’t know how much this means… but I think you're a good person Shadow” Sonic affirmed.
Amy watched Shadow turn to Sonic, his expression made her want to just explode as she swore she could see the yellow of his sclera grow a bit misty, she couldn’t confirm as he abruptly sat up and rubbed at his gigantic eyes before declaring “I’m gonna go”.
Amy was about to argue as she felt he could use more endearment, she was stopped as Sonic placed a hand to her shoulder “no prob Shads! Why don’t you take some Amy’s snacks with you, you don’t mind do you Ames?” he offered
She realised what he was doing, Shadow did look like he needed some time to himself and Sonic was giving him the perfect out, “oh yeah! Of course not, would you take some for Rouge please, not sure when I’ll be giving her a visit so it’s better if you take them” Amy explained as she left Sonic's side to procure a few treats into a plastic container she brought in case either Sonic or Shadow wanted some cakes to take home. She placed the container into a giant outstretched claw that Shadow bent down to offer.
He rose back to full height and eyed the two little hedgehogs, said two hedgehogs enthusiastically waved as Shadow took a few ground shaking steps away from the picnic spot, he glanced a look back at them and responded with a shy wave of goodbye before promptly chaos controlling to whatever location fit for him to decompress.
Amy felt herself relax, she wanted this picnic to be as perfect as possible and while she hadn’t intended a vent session for Shadow she was actually quite glad it had. It seemed if anyone needed that today it was him, she sat back into her blanket and let out a sigh. However the feeling of relaxation began to get nibbled away by a feeling of confusion, she looked up to see Sonic with an annoyingly large grin, she felt something that would irritate her was about to come out his mouth.
“Man your cakes were just the best today Amy” he complimented, maybe she misjudged, that was very sweet of him-
“Shame Shads didn’t eat any of the strawberry shortcake, you sure it’s just me that hates the stuff?-“
The swift swing of her hammer upon his head promptly shut him up before he could continue on with the slander of her strawberry shortcakes.

Rouge was having a quiet evening all things considered, she sat In her living room sipping chamomile tea from a mug adorned with the quote “another day another slay”. The peace was not long lasting as she felt a few quakes hit her building before she heard creaks and cracks coming from the top of the roof of the apartment building.
That would have been alarming to most people but Rouge had roommates of sorts, one being a homicidal robot with a dry sense of humour and the other being a 35 foot lizard hedgehog who adored the robot's dry sense of humour. She knew the commotion was caused by the latter, she had asked him to not teleport directly on the roof so it caused minor irritation to her when he had just done so again.
She made her way out of the apartment to find the set of stairs that allowed access to the roof, Shadow wasn’t one to just forget her boundaries so she hoped everything was alright with the monstrous hedgehog.
When she opened the old squeaky door that led to the cooling air of outside, she was met with Shadow curled up into a near ball, he needed to curl as the roof didn’t have much space for him to occupy when he spent his time there, the strength of the apartment complex held out well with his weight surprisingly. His quills and scales were a little bristled so she could assume the outing she badgered him to go on may have gone sideways.
She had hoped getting him to interact with others would open up the gruff exterior he led on with, but during the months she had spent with Shadow, it opened her up to many sides of the lizard hedgehog he had yet to share with anyone excluding Omega of course. He obviously didn’t owe anyone information about himself but nonetheless she felt it would be good for him.
Rouge apprehensively approached the massive being in front of her, he was breathing softly and had his arms held to himself, something she noted he did to self soothe, “Hiya hun” she called. He rolled over to address her, looking absolutely exhausted. Whatever limited social battery she saw him with this morning was practically begging for mercy at this point.
“Picnic go well? Did you have a good time?” She asked, she didn’t mean to mother him but she couldn’t help the sense of responsibility she had over him now, the gigantic face displayed to her scrunched up in thought before he let out a noncommittal noise that sounded like a “eh” to her.
Rouge deduced he was nonverbal at this point, he tended to become so when he was overstimulated. “No prob hun, you wanna talk about it tomorrow?” She asked.
His eyes silently thanked her for the out in any more talking, he gave her a firm nod that indicated there would probably be a lot to talk about tomorrow, that was fine. She sipped a bit of her tea and looked at the sun setting before them, “do you want me to stay?”
Shadow thought it over for a moment, he was really tired of talking and interaction but for some reason, Rouge asking to stay with him after today's events felt different, he looked at her and gave another firm nod. The bat flapped her dark purple wings and landed atop the beast hedgehog's head, he could manage that, he didn’t mind when it was Rouge hanging out on his person.
He thought about the first time she had offered to stay with him, it was past dark and she had no reason to be up on the roof with him. He wasn’t wondering that now.

I made a story based on the post you made on Feb 10th
Babyfied Tails not crying no matter how hungry or sick he’d be because when he was an actual toddler he learned that if he cried no one would come to help him, his cries would only attract the people who wanted to hurt him.
I can’t tag it or however that works but I hope you like it. I just made it so it’s not beta’s or anything but I hope you enjoy it. Set in the movie universe.
Tales of Tails
Tails didn’t cry. He didn’t. That was just the way he worked, no crying. When in pain? Don’t cry. When sick? Don’t cry. It was something he learned from westside there was no way around it.
Whenever he had cried then he had only attracted attention from Mobians who wanted to hurt him. He’d only be attacked and beaten if he cried out in any way, so the answer was simple. Teach yourself to not cry.
…hard to do when you were a toddler and needed something but couldn’t express it any other way.
Thankfully that all changed when he met Sonic, he slowly had expressed himself more and when he needed something he just told Sonic, which was more effective than crying about it.
So when he got into battle with some dumb badniks and surrounded, he didn’t make a sound of distress. Just fought back as best he could, rolling and spindashing himself into the robots until they were all broken and he was gasping for breath.
His leg hadn’t been so lucky in the end as it was bleeding and Tails was sure if you looked close enough you could probably see bone, but the young kit hobbled over to Sonic, who had a few cuts but wasn’t very banged up.
“S-onic?” He said, gritting his teeth together against the pain
His big bro turned to him and his eyes widened, making the fox sit down as he began to examine his injury, “Tails! What the heck happened?”
“Badnik got a lucky hit.” He said, squeezing his eyes shut as Sonic put pressure on his knee and pain shot through his body, but he stayed just as he was.
“Tails…we need to get you to a doctor.”
His eyes flew open to look at Sonic’s, and…sure enough there was complete honesty to be found. Tails let his head hang, he felt like a man condemned, a doctor? Would a doctor really help?
“Come on little bro.” Sonic said, scooping the kit into his arms, “Why don’t we see about Maddie? I think she’s on call today.”
Tails nodded and held on, Maddie could be trusted and she was a vet so she knew how to help.
“Gonna go fast.” Sonic warned
Tails gripped his brother tighter and soon the two were off at lightning speed…and too much sooner they were at the clinic Maddie worked at. Sonic ignored the registration desk, but the nice lady knew who it was anyway.
“Hey Pretzel lady?” Sonic asked, gaining her attention
“Hey Sonic…oh my gosh.” She gasped, “Can you two hang on for one moment?”
“Yeah, we can mom.” Tails assured her as Sonic led the way to a small bench in a waiting room usually used for the owners of pets and their pets to wait for their vet or their pet’s return from the back rooms.
Sonic set him on it and grabbed as many napkins and/or gauze as he could find to soak up what was left from his bleeding, it’s was oozing out and making him lightheaded.
As his brother was putting pressure on his open wound Tails said, “Uh…Sonic?”
“What? What’s wrong? Is it not working? Are you cold? I can get a blanket. I’ll get a blanket.” He zoomed back one second later and had Tails wrapped up, “Cozy?”
Tails nodded he hadn’t even noticed the cold which was odd since his fur usually gave him so much heat, enough to keep him alive, “Yeah, but…I’m kind of dizzy is what I was going to say.”
“You’re dizzy?” Maddie suddenly said from the doorway, “Can you tell me anything else?”
His head kind of lolled around, “Uhh…It’s not stopping bleeding and my head’s fogging up.”
“Okay, I’ve got a few ways to fix this, but you’ll have to get it done surgically.” Maddie explained
Sonic tensed up, “I’ve read about those…they don’t sound like a lot of fun.”
“They aren’t.” Maddie agreed before turning to Tails to explain it to him eye to eye, “You’ll be under anesthesia so you won’t feel a thing Tails.”
“I can do it awake.” He said, “I can do it.”
Maddie’s hand came to his shoulder, “I know you can honey, but you’ve got to get it while you’re in a medically induced sleep. You won’t feel anything until you wake up.”
Tails shook his head, “Please no. I can do it awake. Please.”
Maddie’s tone took on a serious tone, “There’s not much time to be wasting here honey. You are bleeding from a severe wound and it needs to be sewn up as soon as possible so you can recover.”
“Please Tails.” Sonic’s voice came from behind Maddie, “It’ll be lots safer and you’ll have me and Knuckles here when you wake up. And I’m sure Donut lord will be happy to see you fixed up too.”
Tails leaned his head against the wall, his head was starting to make the room spin and he closed his eyes in defeat, “…Okay.”
He was carried into the back room and something came over his nose and he held his breath, which scared the people around him until he released his breath two minutes later and he inhaled something that smelled weird and he moved his head, but the thing followed him until he fell into sleep.
When Tails came to, he found himself back on a bench in the waiting room, but this time with his big brother Knuckles on the bench just 90 degrees from where Tails laid.
He tried sitting up but the echidna warrior took action, “Young fox.”
Tails waved, “Hey Knuckles.”
Knuckles put a big gloved hand to Tails’s forehead, making the younger giggle, “You are well?”
“As well as I can be right now.” He joked with a smile
Knuckles nodded to himself, “Shall I reassume my post? Maddie has requested she be alerted once you have awoken.”
“Better to not keep her waiting then, I’ll be okay if you go let her know.”
Knuckles seemed to hesitate before walking to the door leading to the back, “I shall return shortly fox.”
With his big brother gone, Tails was left wondering where his other big brother was but didn’t have long to wonder as Knuckles returned with Maddie.
She immediately knelt in front of him, “Hey Tails. How’re you feeling?”
“Not dizzy anymore.”
She ran her hand through his fur and scratched behind his ear, just enough for him to relax but not enough to purr, “That’s good, you gave me a heart attack when you didn’t breathe for a second there.”
Knuckles joined in, not touching the fox but taking his seat back, “It was quite concerning to hear about fox, I had almost immediately feared you had joined your ancestors.”
“What? Come on Knuckles, I’m not going to go down that easily.” Tails protested in an exasperated voice only a little brother could pull off, “I’m not super strong like you but I can survive that.”
Knuckles nodded solemnly, “As you should fox.”
“With that said and done, who’s ready to go home?” Maddie asked
Tails raised his hand, “I am.”
“As am I.” Knuckles said as he picked up his little brother, “Lead the way lady of pretzels.”
Maddie giggled and did lead the way to the car, where Tom was standing and so was-
“Sonic!” Tails exclaimed, lighting up when he saw his blue blur brother
“Hey buddy!” Sonic zoomed up to him, “How’re you feeling after surgery?”
Tails assessed himself, “My leg kind of hurts but it’s dull but I’m not dizzy anymore.”
Sonic looked relieved, “Good, you freaked us all out little buddy.”
“Shouldn’t we get going home?” Knuckles interrupted, “The fox needs his rest to recover properly.”
Tom jangled the keys, “I’ve got your ticket to ride right here.”
Maddie rolled her eyes at her husband’s song reference and gave him a kiss on the cheek, “I’ve got a shift to finish so I’ll meet you when I get off.”
“Alright, love you.” Tom replied
“Love you too, make sure the boys eat I’m sure they’re starving by now.” She teased as she closed the front office door
Knuckles looked and sounded confused as he placed Tails in his middle booster seat, “I do not understand.” He buckled Tails in, “We are not starving, we have eaten two full meals as of today and have yet to eat a third.” He buckled himself in, “Why say such a thing if it is not true?”
“It’s an expression knucklehead.” Sonic said in an exasperated tone as he buckled himself in so Tom could start the car without the sensors yelling at him, “She meant that she’s sure we’re hungry.”
“Then why not just say so?”
Sonic sighed, “There is still so much about Earth you have got to learn.”
Tails giggled, their banter would always cheer him up and he was left with that joyful feeling as the boys made their way home.
Tom carried Tails upstairs and laid him into his bed before sending the other two to make sandwiches, with grapes, Knuckles loved his grapes.
“Thanks for taking care of me dad.” Tails said as he was tucked in
“Speaking of which.” Tom suddenly spoke up, “I heard that a little someone didn’t take care of himself and was hurt, only telling Sonic something was wrong.”
Tails suddenly felt very cornered and alone with those words. He wanted to hide…he wanted to cry.
“I’m not mad at you Tails.” That did nothing to reassure him.
“I want all my boys to be safe and I don’t feel like that’s happening here.” His head tilted as Tails turned his head away from him, “Care to tell me what’s wrong?”
He gave Tails’s shoulder just a little nudge and Tails lost it, burying his head in his hands, but he spilled no tears.
“I’m sorry Mr. Wacowski, I-I didn’t mean to scare you all with my leg. I don’t want to scare you at all! I-I didn’t know I was going to get hurt and-and-!”
A hand oh his shoulder stopped him in his rant, “That’s not what I’m talking about Tails. I’m talking about how you didn’t cry the entire time.”
Huh? It was about why he didn’t cry? Where was this coming from?
“It’s hard to tell how much pain you’re really in if you don’t cry.”
Encouragement to cry?
Tails’s voice shook in confusion and something he couldn’t name, “A-Aren’t you supposed to be telling me not to cry?”
Tom snorted and joked, “And feed my need for masculinity in this family? You wish.” Tom playfully nudged to make him laugh, and it worked to loosen the tension, if only a little. “But more seriously, I don’t want to see you in pain, but I want to make sure that either me or someone else knows when you’re in pain. It’s your body’s natural response Tails. It pains me to see you not expressing your needs, especially for something as serious as an injury that cuts almost to bone.”
Tails looked at Tom’s arm, suddenly finding that very interesting and making the man move to maintain eye contact.
Tails only looked away again and took a few minutes to prepare.
Tom was a few moves away from going to check on the other two when Tails spoke up in a small voice, “…promise to not tell anyone but Maddie?”
“Of course.” There was still no eye contact, but this was a start
“…Back in my village everyone thought my two tails were weird, so I learned that if I wanted to survive I wasn’t supposed to cry. Because then I’d be found and hurt even more than I already did.”
Tom was listening, the words the kit had spoken were already so gut-wrenching but he had to hear what his son had to say.
“Some pulled on my tails and some just punched me…but it was always because I was crying, so I just didn’t cry no matter how hungry or scared I was.” His kit sniffled but no tears fell, “It hurt more when I cried and was found than if I just didn’t cry so I-so I-!”
Tom scooped his son up in a warm embrace, if only to let him know he was there and offer his silent support.
“I-It worked. F-For a long time.” His son admitted
“Tails,” Tom started, “You don’t have to hide here, nobody in this household will ever hurt you or make you feel like you can’t cry because you won’t get hurt here. I’d rather take a thousand bullets for anyone living in this home a hundred times over than see you, any of you, hurt.”
The kit must’ve understood because he felt his little hands tighten around his body and grip his shirt tightly. Then his little form began to shake and a wet spot formed on his shirt.
He rubbed a hand along Tails’s back in circles, “It’s okay Tails.”
For the first time Tails truly believed he could be safe. Here. In his father’s arms.
-silentsheikah
Oooh this is goood! One can really forget how young Tails really is, but damn you hit me in the feelings with him actually acting his age while he holds back so much. And damn with the no tears while somehow still sobbing! Are you trying to kill me? (please keep going). Also Sonic trying to do everything in his power to make his brother as comfortable as he can be, beautiful, they’re so bros I love them.
It makes me really happy when my writing inspires people to create works of their own!Really loved to read about the movie bros, there are not that many works on them so this was a treat! Thank you for sharing it!

sonic can't give tails a piggyback ride or let him sit on his shoulders because of all his quills, however tails can sit on just one of sonic's shoulders. its a little awkward because it throws sonic off balance, but sonic's plenty strong and if he ever does lose his footing tails just flies and propells them back upright
also. sonic could wear some sort of headscarf to keep his quills down and out of the way if needed. especially in crowded places, like a carnival or something, where tails wants to be able to see whats going on and not be bumped into, but it's too tiring for him to constantly be flying. so they pull out the Sonic Scarf
at tails' workshop if they're ever just lazing on the couch, and sonic's laying on his stomach and tails would like to lean on top of him, theres a dedicated thick blanket there to throw over his head so tails can crawl all over him without getting poked

Breakfast, Bitches
Summary: The story where Modern!Shadow makes Boom!Team Sonic breakfast after a sleepover. You can say it’s because he cares about them, but he says it’s because Meh Burger is very unhealthy and he’s not letting them eat it for breakfast. Because he cares about them.
Quick Notes: This is my first time writing Sonic Boom after over a year ago, which I think I’d like to leave in the past like something I can look back on and say “Oh I was still practicing back then, don’t take it seriously”. I think I did pretty good, but tell me if you think it needs more comedy or shenanigans, I just didn’t think many were necessary since it’s early morning. This is based off @zumbieve‘s Isekai’d Shadow AU, which I thought was really cool!
Word Count: 2,322
Something smelled good.
That was the first thing Sonic noticed when he woke up a few minutes ago. Something smelled good, really good. Good enough to pull him from sleep and motivate him to sit up. In doing so, he was confused not to feel the same familiar movement of his hammock. Instead he felt a soft blanket separating him from the floor. A quick look out the window and Sonic realized how early it was, and that he was in Tails’ living room.
The sun was still barely rising. The sky was a shade of blue with just enough light to barely make out the small fox sleeping nearby. Sonic smiled a little and yawned. For a moment, he considered going back to sleep. He could hear the others snoring quietly nearby. No, he had to investigate. As comfortable as the moment and makeshift bed was, he wanted to figure out what smelled so good. The blue hedgehog began standing up. He moved slowly as to not disturb anyone, and because he was still a little tired. Once he was up, he rubbed his eyes and looked at his feet. He stepped carefully over Tails, the maneuvered around Knuckles, who was asleep on the hanging couch with his legs hanging off? Sonic knew better now than to question, but… Why?
He turned to the direction the smell was coming from. It was coming from his kitchen, and as he paid more attention, he also heard the faint sound of sizzling and someone humming a tune. Sonic’s heart picked up and he was suddenly much more awake. He moved as silently as he could to feel for the light switch. Once he found it, he flipped it on to see who it was. The sudden glare of the light made him squint, but his eyes adapted pretty quickly.
“Shadow?!” Sonic exclaimed. Don’t worry, not the edge lord one. The short one.
Shadow briefly turned to him, a spatula in his hand while the other held the pan steady.”Good morning to you, too.” He said half sarcastically. He turned his attention back to the pan. Sonic, confused and curious, walked over to see what it was he was doing. Since this Shadow was shorter, he could look over his shoulder. Three pancakes were on the pan, placed far enough apart not to touch and have some space between them. Sonic realized that the smell that woke him up was Shadow cooking. He looked at the dark hedgehog with slight confusion.
Since meeting him, this different version of Shadow has been… an experience. He was distrusting of them at first, like they were of him, but both sides learned to trust each other. They even gave this Shadow a nickname incase of the awkward scenario in which the two Shadows meet; Shads. Original, right? Despite their original thoughts, this Shadow was actually a great addition to the group, and an excellent friend. In his own way, more often than not.
He’d been invited to the sleepover, and even though he didn’t talk much, his presence proved to make that evening a little more interesting. Sonic remembered that the best part was how he reacted when they found out how often they ate Meh Burger after ordering some last night. He looked disturbed and said that wasn’t healthy to eat that kind of food so often, and Knuckles joked that Meh Burger practically wasn’t food at all. Shadow didn’t understand it was a joke at first, but it wasn’t entirely wrong. Meh Burger really lived up to its name.
Shadow nudged the spatula under one of the pancakes and flipped it.”Check the plate over there.” He said, pointing to his left.”I made enough for almost everyone to have three,” Shadow swiftly turned around and glared at Sonic, “only three,” He turned back to the flip the second pancake, “and this last batch is almost done. Go ahead and get some, but keep the others in mind. They’re not awake yet.” He said. Sonic looked in the direction the dark hedgehog was pointing. As Shadow said, there was a plate of pancakes on the counter.
Sonic walked over to them and took a deep breath in through his nose.”Oh, that smells amazing.” He said. He couldn’t help but smile a little. He noticed the bowl of scrambled eggs and plate of bacon right of the pancakes.”You made eggs and bacon too?” Sonic asked, genuinely surprised. There seemed to be enough for everyone. When he turned around, Shadow had flipped the third pancake.
”Yes. It took me more time than I’d have liked since I had to leave to buy the ingredients, cook the bacon, pancakes, eggs, and then come back with them. I forgot to cook the last three pancakes, so I’m doing that now.” He said. He glanced outside, and so did Sonic. Streaks of pink broke through the light blue, a sign that the sun was finally close to rising above the horizon.”It was still dark when I started. Now that I’m almost done cooking, all there is to do is clean up.” Shadow added.
Sonic looked around the kitchen incase he missed anything when he first turned the light on, but he couldn’t find whatever mess Shadow was referring to.“I don’t see any mess.” He said.
“The dishes I used.” Shadow responded.
Sonic scanned the three options again. How long did it take for him to make it? And why?“Why, though?” Sonic asked as he turned around. Shadow was putting the three pancakes onto a plate and paused to give him a confused look. Immediately, Sonic raised both hands as if in surrender.“Don’t get me wrong, I really appreciate it! But I don’t understand why.” He said.
Shadow came closer with the plate holding the last three pancakes. Sonic reached out to grab one, but Shadow gave him a stern look that made him laugh nervously and put both hands behind his back. Shadow stepped beside him and held the plate in his hands at an angle to let the pancakes slide perfectly onto the plate with the rest.“I used them, so I clean them.” Shadow replied. He turned around and grabbed the pan and spatula to start washing them in the sink, which looked cleaner than last Sonic remembered.
“No, I mean the food.” Sonic elaborated.
Shadow grabbed a nearby sponge and started with the plate.“I woke up pretty early and couldn’t fall back asleep. I got bored, so I looked at the time and decided it would be a good time to start breakfast. Also, because of habit.” He replied. He spent a moment scrubbing it, then grabbed a nearby washcloth to dry it. Sonic turned back to the pancakes. Surely one bite wouldn’t hurt. He picked one up and took a bite out of it.
For a second, he could practically feel a sparkle in his eyes. It tasted a little like heaven, with a bit of strawberry. He quickly ate the food in his mouth.”Oh my gosh, this is great!” He exclaimed, then proceeded to try to stuff the rest of it into his mouth. He made a few admittedly gross sounds that he knew made Shadow cringe. Sonic heard a small yawn and turned around to see Tails leaning against the counter for support, still sleepy.
“What’s great? And why are the lights on?” He asked tiredly. He rubbed his eyes as he began walking over to Sonic.
“Shadow made these pancakes.” Sonic replied. He took one from the plate and handed it to Tails.
He took a small bite and smiled.“These are pretty good!” He said, sounding a little less tired. He turned to look at Shadow, who was standing his toes to reach the higher cabinets Tails kept his plates in. Tails himself needed a stepping stool or to hover to reach them, but both brothers still found it funny that Shadow had to stretch a little. Both brothers tried to keep their laughter under control.”Thanks, Shadow!” Tails said. He was doing a better job at keeping his laughter down than Sonic.
Shadow turned around.“You’re welcome. Also, what’s so funny?” He asked.
Sonic waved a hand.“Nothing, nothing.” He said, trying and failing to get his laughter under control.”Just a small thing we remembered.” He said. Tails snickered at the joke. Shadow gave them a pretty disappointed look and turned back to start washing the pan and spatula.“Oh, come on. Don’t tell me you have a short temper.” Sonic said.
“It’s morning, Sonic. Everyone has a short temper in the morning.” Shadow said.
Tails’ snickering was cut off with a yawn and he leaned against Sonic again. Sonic gave him a side hug and Tails continued eating his pancake with slow bites. It was a habit or something between them to have at least one hug in the mornings, and more often than not, Tails would almost fall back asleep leaning against his big brother.“I bet you especially?” Sonic teased.
Shadow chuckled softly at the joke.“Well, you’re not wrong.” He said. Sonic paused. Shadow chuckled. He just chuckled. Holy crap, that chuckle was somehow so nice to hear! Sonic wanted to hear it again, but it felt like his mind was running all over the place after hearing that. How was he this excited over hearing that laugh?”Anyways, I’m going to be heading out pretty soon.” Shadow said, interrupting Sonic’s thoughts.
“Wha — Already? But the others aren’t up yet! And you haven’t eaten breakfast!” Sonic said. He was suddenly determined to get Shadow to stay just a little longer.
Shadow put the pan and spatula away. He turned to them looking a little less grumpy and a little more confused.”I already ate breakfast, and I was under the assumption that you’d want me to leave after.” He said. Sonic sprinted to stand next to him, and Tails almost fell over, but caught himself against the counter. Sonic reached a high cabinet and opened it to grab a plate. He was definitely getting his second and third pancakes, and some bacon. And eggs, with ketchup, obviously.
“No way, man! Last night was cool, and today we’re going on a boring hike through the forest!” He said with an odd amount of enthusiasm. He grabbed a second plate and handed it to Tails when he walked back to the counter with the food.
Tails put his unfinished pancake on his plate and went to get some more food for himself.“Wanna come with us?” He asked hopefully. If Sonic wasn’t already smiling at the promise of actually good food, he’d be smiling at how Tails was acting.
Out of the whole group, Tails was the most nervous around Shadow. The first Shadow was a jerk to all of them, Tails especially for some reason. Hearing about that “fox hunting” comment made Sonic want to do things he’d probably end up arrested for. Plus, he’s still a kid, so it was no wonder he didn’t want to be near him at all in the beginning.
Last night changed that a bit, though. With some more time to talk, the group had learned a couple things about Short Shadow’s world. When Shadow explained what a motorcycle was, Tails wanted to hear more, and Shadow seemed almost happy to share information about them, including his own. Sonic had no clue what they were saying after five minutes and honestly found it a little boring, but Tails seemed so happy listening to Shadow talk about the different engines and whatnot, so who was he to interrupt?
Sonic probably wouldn’t say it out loud, maybe, but he was honestly proud of Tails seeing him start to trust this second Shadow.
Shadow hummed.“Well, I don’t have much else to do, so exploring the island a bit more might be interesting.” He said.
“Turn the light off!” Amy groaned. The three of them looked over to where she was sleeping on the couch. She was trying to cover her head with the blanket to block out the light. Sonic glanced outside. The sky was now a mixture of pink, blue, and some yellow.”Wait, what’s that smell? Did someone make breakfast?” Amy asked. She sat up and lifted a hand to cover her mouth when she yawned.
Sonic got his food and some silverware. He walked over to the couch and sat down to eat.“Yep, and get this; Shadow made it. You’ve gotta try it, it’s really good.” He said. He used his fork to pick up some scrambled eggs covered in ketchup and ate them. It could just be the pretty much daily Meh Burger after so long, but he thought this food was amazing.
“Shadow made breakfast?” Knuckles asked. Apparently, he was awake, too. Still hanging off the other couch a little, but awake. He fell to the floor with a thud when he tried to get up.
Amy rubbed her eyes and smiled. She turned around to look at Shadow.”That’s really nice of you, Shadow. It smells amazing. Thank you.” She said. She got up off the couch to get some breakfast herself. Sonic heard another yawn from the opposite side of him and looked over at the somehow still intact blanket fort Sticks made the night before. Soon, Sticks emerged, her fur looking a little like a small mane with it all out of the ropes she used to tie it.
Shadow gave a small scoff in the kitchen.”It’s normal breakfast food. If you consider this amazing, then you’re eating more unhealthy garbage than I thought.” He said.
Sticks pointed at him.”Hey, don’t insult garbage like that!” She said. Sonic could see the eye roll from Shadow, and he was focused on eating. Whatever was said next was lost from Sonic’s ears. Forget Meh Burger, this food was even better than their milkshakes! Could Shadow make better milkshakes? Or better chili dogs? That, Sonic had to find out. Maybe he’d ask during lunch!

Heres the link to the AO3 version: MEMORIES IN THE SKY
But if you wanna read it here, a small summary, and under the cut shall be the fic itself :D
Sonic and Tails have had many adventures over the few years that they've known each over. Of course, when you have so many battles, even the painful, adrenaline boosting, and heartfelt battles are easy to move on from.
After battling against Dr. Eggman once again, the classic duo Sonic and Tails sit down together to catch a break and relax. However, as the two look up to the sky, some certain star formations begin to emerge, alongside with a few of their past adventures.
For the STH Big Bang 2024!
Sonic and Tails were sitting together on top of one of the many floating platforms that occupy green hill. Some stray blades of grass were gently blowing in the breeze. The sun was setting, casting its final orange light over the sea right before Sonic and Tails’ eyes. The stars were beginning to come out as the darkness rose over the horizon.
“Haha that was fun, wasn’t it lil’ buddy?” Sonic turned his head towards Tails, smiling in joy at the thrilling conclusion of another battle. “Yeah! Eggman stood no chance! Not when we are both around!” Sonic laughed, sitting up straight, shuffling the grass underneath him. “Haha, right you are! Besides, a few bots is nothing compared to literally anything else you and I have taken down without a problem!”
Tails gives Sonic a cheeky grin. “Oh really? You sure nothing at all has been a hassle for you?” Sonic grins, crossing his arms. “I am certain of it! Nothing can beat me! Now or ever!” After giving his statement, he picks up a blade of grass and fiddles with it in between his fingers.
As the two had their conversation, the sun was finally out of view. Only black with various shades of purple behind the many stars sitting in the sky. Time seemed to freeze, with Sonic and Tails being the only ones still moving and awake.
“Well… What about that time when Knuckles one shot you and took all the Chaos Emeralds?” Sonic gave a short laugh. “Well to be fair, I did not use them as much as I do now. Also he got me by surprise really…” Tails rolled his eyes. “Ok… What about the various races you lost to Jet?” “Hahaha I won a lot more races than he did! Besides, I was letting him win. After all, gotta let him think he won something.” Tails looks over at Sonic with a doubting look. “Ok. Then what about Mecha Sonic? That was more recent.” “C’mon, I had a broken ankle, you can’t count that! Also to make it fair, didn’t you also lose to him when trying to save me?” Sonic grinned, jabbing an elbow at Tails too quick for him to block with either of his tails.
“Haha, well why don’t you ask Mecha what he has to say about that?” Sonic lowered his eyelids. “Ehh, don’t want to bother him, y’know?” Sonic let go of the blade of grass he was playing with, letting it glide through the air into the ocean below them. “Whatever you say…” Just as Tails was about to add on something else, he held his breath, lowering his ears slightly. Changing his mind on whatever he was about to speak.
“Hm? Tails, you all good?” Tails perked back up. “Yeah! I’m all good!” Sonic gave a doubtful look, but moved on anyway. Tails closed his eyes, relaxing and enjoying the quiet.
The stars began to shine and sparkle, illuminating the night as the clouds covered the moon in a blanket.
“Heh. Hey Tails, don’t you think those stars over there look like the Chaos Emeralds? Like, the basic outline of them.” Sonic held a finger up to a group of stars, as Tails opened his eyes and followed where he was looking. “Huh, I guess they do kinda look like them…” Sonic and Tails stare at them in silence before Sonic speaks up. “They sure have come in handy, huh? I mean, we’ve done so much with them! Took down Eggman with them, multiple times may I add. Chaos, Time Eater, Dragon looking Metal Sonic- twice, all the Titans and the End on Starfall Island, and got rid of the Metal Virus! That's just to name a few!” Sonic had both hands on his hip, grinning in pride looking at Tails.
“Well yeah, but- wait, most of your victories were won due to the Chaos Emeralds! So you did technically get help after all!” Tails grinned at Sonic, mimicking what Sonic was doing and placing his hands on his hips in a similar manner. They both sat there in silence for a brief moment before Sonic came up with a response. “Well I mean, who wouldn’t want to fly around golden and all? C’mon, admit it, it's super cool. Pun intended.”
Tails gave Sonic an annoyed look. “First. You did need them. There is no way you would have otherwise. Second. Yeah, it is really cool. Third, That was a really bad pun. I would give that a 2/10.” Sonic gave Tails a dramatic response, pulling a “disheartened” face and resting his palm on his head. “Oh c’mon. That's quite the harsh review. I guess I’ll never do a pun ever again. This world is too cruel to say anything without judgment!” Sonic fell back onto the grass. “I guess that's the end of Sonic. His true enemy is a bad critic review.”
Sonic closed his eyes and smirked. “A bad critic review indeed.” Tails flicked a round stone at Sonic, landing on his forehead. Sonic got up, the stone falling back onto the ground from where Tails picked it up. “Ah. Enough of that. Truth is I am glad to have your help. You, Knuckles, Amy, heck even Shadow! You are all my friends! There is no one else I’d rather have my back than you all!”
“I knew that. Just waited for you to admit it.” Sonic gave a small laugh, smiling. “Ah well. You win some and you lose some.” Just as Sonic said that a stray leaf glided in out of nowhere and smacked itself into Sonic’s face, catching him off guard. Just as quickly as it landed, it took off, following the breeze. Sonic and Tails sat there for no less than a second before going into a fit of laughter, despite it not overall being that funny to begin with.
“Woah! Look at the ocean!” Tails joined in with Sonic gazing at the sea to see the beautiful sight of the stars reflected by the ocean's surface, with various ocean life illuminated underneath submerged by water. “Wait, aren't you supposed to be afraid of water?” Tails gave Sonic a sly side glance. “Well when I am in it. I mean, it can be beautiful. But from afar, and not too close to me…” Tails snickered. “I mean, you say that while we are sitting on a small floating platform almost right above the ocean…” Sonic wrapped one arm around Tails’ shoulder. “Ahh shut it you. You’ll make me wanna run off.” “Don’t be dramatic…”
Sonic and Tails continued to admire the stars as Tails decided to turn Sonic’s earlier comment into a game of sorts. “Look! Don’t those stars look like Trip’s helmet! When you look at it reflected in the water!” Sonic pointed his head downwards. “Yeah they do buddy!”
Sonic picked up a stone off the ground and skilfully tossed it at the ocean, as it skipped across the sea. “The highlight of it all was I remember in Cyber Station when Knuckles knocked me down a platform and sent me flying! Man, now that I think back on it that happened quite a bit, with you having to catch me. Heh. What fun…” Tails gave Sonic an irritated look. “I am pretty sure that was you being stubborn and just leaping before you looked, which then led me to having to catch you…. Quite a few times…” Sonic shrugged. “Eh, same story…”
“Well what about in Speed Jungle when you ran off so fast you were stuck having to beat that robot at the end of the zone all by yourself? You were having a hard time until me, Amy, and Knuckles arrived.” Sonic held a finger up to his chin, rethinking the scenario. “I don’t believe that exactly happened. More like that Knucklehead could not keep up…” As Sonic said that he tossed another stone at the sea, skipping like the previous one. “Oh yeah? You sure about that? Why don’t you sit back and think for a minute?” Tails questioned, as Sonic sat there with his arms folded, reimagining the event.
Sonic had blazed through the jungle, scattering vines, fog, and leaves everywhere. He skillfully jumped in between platforms or walls, not coming to a halt for even a mere second. While he was having a fun time, the rest of his crew was not.
Tails, Amy, and Knuckles were trying their best to keep up with their blue friend, as he left them behind in the dust. It was very easy to see where he was going due to his speed leaving quite the trail behind him. Vines he used to get across were still swinging, wooden bridges still swaying wildly.
“Sonic! Wait up!” Tails cupped his hands around his mouth in an attempt to make himself louder. However, the hedgehog was either ignoring him, or was too far ahead to hear anything the group was saying. Tails spinned his namesakes faster, in hopes of catching up. “Sonic!”
After many failed attempts to catch up, the trio came to a halt to catch their breaths. Amy had her hands on her knees, Tails was gasping for air, and Knuckles stood there, not out of breath but irritated about being left behind. Amy let out a sigh of defeat. “Why does Sonic keep running off like that?” While she finally had the chance to stop running, she picked out stray twigs from her quills and dress, scratches all over her.
Knuckles had his nose to the ground, not saying anything more than a grunt, leaning up against a tall and rounded off rock. Tails was sitting on the ground plucking out all the twigs tangled in his tails’ fur, mattered and rough. “Hopefully he’ll be alright until we reach him…” Amy said as she sat down to catch her breath.
The sound of leaves crunching and twigs snapping echoed around as the blue blur slowed to a walk when in a darker space. Of course, he was speed walking. But nonetheless walking. There was only a little light source guiding him. Only just enough to see his own hands and legs in front of him. For the most part he was feeling his way around.
The jungle surrounding smelt damp and moist; thick warm air making it somewhat hard to breathe. As Sonic guided himself using the smooth stones and rough bark of the trees, he saw a small light up ahead. Getting excited, he dashed forward, finally about to get out. But just as he was halfway there, he tripped over a loose stone, which sent him flying into a vine, launching him upwards as he smacked himself into an overhanging platform. The sound of stones cracking against each other rang out as pebbles and dirt fell alongside Sonic.
Sonic fell with a thud. He got up and tried wiping away the dirt that had gotten into his eyes. He shook any remaining dirt and stones that had gotten stuck to him. Coughing out what had gotten into his mouth, he went at a steady pace towards the exit, rubbing his watering eyes.
Stumbling over his own footing as he readjusted to the dark terrain, eyes still watering, he finally made it out of the dark space, sneezing out the dust that had gotten up his nose. “Gah!” He had to shield his eyes as he stepped out into the sunlight. Shaking it off, he sprinted forwards, only to immediately bump into something cold and smooth. A badnik. It was shaped as an egg, (to no one’s surprise) and had two robotic arms coming out of it.
Sonic grinned, standing up straight as he dashed forwards, trying to get a hit only for it to grapple the above terrain and lift itself up much too high for Sonic to reach. As it gripped the branches of some trees and vines, some fell down gently onto the ground, which would include an oversized leaf falling onto his face, blocking his view.
Unfortunately for Sonic, that was much more than enough time for the badnik to throw itself back onto the ground and send a nasty hit right at him with one of its arms, sending Sonic soaring through the air, rings scattering across the ground. He hits the side of some terrain, cracking the wall underneath him as he tumbles amongst chunks of earth, crunching, sliding and cracking. He lands on his chest, getting buried alive.
Before Sonic could even get out of the rubble, he was grabbed with force and slammed into the ground. A web pattern formed underneath him in the terrain as it cracked open, dust and dirt flying up into the air. Sonic trembling, tries to get back up only for a flurry of hits to keep coming at him. The smell of dust and earth becoming more clear with each his as the sound of earth splitting apart booms through the jungle.
Amy was fidgeting with her hammer while Knuckles and Tails sat together resting up a bit before some loud sounds burst out from up ahead. Clearly Sonic got himself into trouble. “Looks like he needs our help again…” Knuckles mumbled out as he started to walk forward, with Amy getting up to follow along. Tails was already spinning his tails madly, trying to reach Sonic as fast as he could. “Tails wait!” Amy called out as her and Knuckles followed along, the three following the sounds of earth shattering.
Sonic was receiving hit after hit, sending him further into the ground as the small crater in the ground got deeper and deeper. It felt as if in slow motion that a window opened; astray grass speeding through the wind came to a halt, the dust and debris froze, and the robot paused. Quickly, Sonic curled up into a ball, spinning as fast as he could.
The robot sent another hit, however that would be its downfall as once it made contact with the hedgehog, its arm was sawed clean off, sparks and metal flying through the air with a loud screech. An upside for Sonic which he was not prepared for was that the pressure from the hit also sent Sonic flying out of danger, like a slingshot. Still curled tightly in a ball, he cleaved a line of trees right in half until he landed harshly into the ground.
Sonic got up almost in an instant, ignoring the pain all over his body and the sharp ringing in his ears and pumped his fists into the air, happy that he disabled one arm. He sped right back to the fightzone, ready to hit it again when another arm took place of the damaged one and hit Sonic midair. Sonic let out a startled yelp as he was hit once again, tumbling through the ground.
By now due to all the attacks on the poor terrain, there was a very thick cloud of dust going through the air, which was making Sonic’s throat dry and giving him the urge to sneeze more and more. Determined to win, Sonic leapt at the robot once more, attempting to smash clean through another arm.
Carefully navigating the dark, Tails, Amy, and Knuckles safely made it to the exit, where they could already see that quite the fight was going down. Debris was soaring everywhere, a thick coating of dust was making it harder to breath in the area, and the ground was trembling wildly. To top it off, the group could hear Sonic’s iconic spindash bouncing off metal and making an impact in the ground. “We have to help him!” Amy shouted out over the chaos as she grabbed her piko piko hammer out and charged forward, as Knuckles and Tails followed into the battle.
Sonic could not even see where he was going anymore; there was too much dust and dirt fogging the field. While stumbling around to get his footing he was getting attacked from every direction and slammed back into the ground. It was getting far too intense for him to deal with at this rate, with the ground looking like a minefield, and the wildlife facing the consequences. Just as the robot prepares for another blow, it’s knocked right over, landing in one of the many craters in the terrain below, dense, hollow metal making a low clang as the ground shifted beneath it.
“There you are.” Knuckles made his way towards Sonic, head turned down. “Look what happens when you run off.” Amy ran into the scene, treading lightly over gaps in the ground or smoking pits. “Knuckles, don’t be like that, just help him up.” Knuckles grunted in response, waving his arm through the thick smoke as he went to lift Sonic up. However, his arm was shoved aside as Sonic struggled to get up himself, coughing out smoke that he had inhaled during the fight.
As he stood up, shaking under the pressure of the cuts and bruises he had received from the attacks, he turned to face Knuckles, annoyed with the idea of needing help. “M’kay, dealt with worse.” Once up he shook his head and body off, as stones and debris rolled off and clattered on the ground. Coughing too much, he gestures with his hand to the robot getting back up.
Gears and metal clacked together as the metal frames grinded in its strain to get back up. A curved, smooth dent in the side of its body from the hit Knuckles delivered. Lighting up its eyes, the engines whirred loud and fast, as it prepared for the new opponents.
Amy sprinted ahead, mad at it for harming Sonic. Before she could get a swing with her hammer however, the robot grabbed an overhanging tree that had been knocked right down and lifted itself up high, far out of reach from Amy. “Hey, that's not fair! Get back down here!” Amy pouted helplessly as she stared furiously at it.”Tails! Lift me up there so I can give him a taste of my hammer!” However, Tails was instead gazing up at it with a finger up to his chin, lost in thought.” Sonic dragged his right foot through the rubble, the terrain crunching with each step. He put a hand over his friend's shoulder and tilted his head. Tails looked at him, his tails swaying softly in the dirt, dust sticking to his fur and glinting in the lighting. “I think I-”
Tails was pushed out of the way by Sonic when one of the arms launched at them. More dirt flying into the air and all over the group. Tails had protectively shield him and Sonic with his namesakes in reaction to the sudden movement. All the fur on his tails became rough and mattered, feeling like cotton candy as more dirt clung onto them.
Knuckles’ eyes lit up in rage as he lifted up a chunk of rock and threw it at the badnik’s arm, snapping it as the sound of static popping and crackling rang out. The rest of the arm hangs limp, shards of metal falling onto the rest of the arm like rain; static springing out of both ends. It retracted the arm as two new ones took its place.
“Great! How do we disable this thing!” Knuckles clenched his fists and glared at the badnik with pure rage. Another arm launched itself at where Sonic and Tails had landed, as they narrowly dodge it by a hair, jumping opposite directions. Recoiling the new arm fast, as it snapped back to its base.
Amy, Knuckles, and Sonic start dodging the fast attacks, rolling out of harm's way. However, Tails was focusing on the robot more, analyzing its movements. Everything was moving in a pattern for him. Seeing outcomes and logic to use against it.
Sonic was running as best as he could, due to the beating from before. However, his shoe skidded across a loose stone, and he face planted into a deep crater. Seeing another arm target him, he rolled onto his side just in time. The gears clicked over and over as it struggled to pull the arm back. Tails looked closer, and saw what had happened. Because of the crater taking in a lot of damage, there was still loose rubble and terrain that was barely holding up at the edges. So when the arm had dug itself into the ground with force, all that rubble had come down and buried the arm.
The only downside to that was that Sonic had not rolled fully out of the crater, and had his left leg and arm buried. Tails knew what to do. “Knuckles! Climb up the arm and attack the robot from where you impacted it before!” Knuckles nodded, not hesitating for a second, stumbling in small gaps or indents in the ground.
Gripping onto the cold, silky surface of the arm, he dragged himself upwards, digging the tip of his shoes into the small gaps so he did not slide or slip. As the badnik tried to free itself, shaking and jolting, Knuckles pressed himself closer, so he would not go free falling with every movement.
He got higher and higher to the base, his leather shoes squeaking with every step, it became easier to move up, as the base was more stiff and solid unlike the middle and end where it's unstable. Almost able to stand, he started to run up, seeing the small dent on the side of it.
Jumping into the air, he threw a huge hit at the mark, a loud boom as a giant hole revealed gears and wires, metal sheets rattling inside it, resting at the bottom.. Static popped as the robot's arms stopped moving. Knuckles seeing it shut down gilded off it, gracefully landing on the damaged ground as the robot creaked and loosened its grip on the above canopy. Falling with a massive thud that shook the nearby ground, the lights illuminating the eyes dimmed.
Knuckles grunted, as Amy and Tails helped get Sonic’s limbs out of the rubble. “Well that takes care of it.” Brushing off dust, he made his way to the three and grabbed Sonic with one hand, lifting him out without any effort. “This is what happens when you run off. Next time, wait.” Knuckles left it at that and turned his back away, waiting for what they would do next.
Tails ran in front of Sonic, worried. “Are you alright Sonic, that looked like a pretty nasty beating…” Sonic merely closed his eyes and grinned, holding a thumbs up to his pal, assuring he was ok. Sonic then gestured to the path ahead, ready to move on.
Relaying the memory, hand cupping his mouth, he turned to Tails, as his buddy finished ‘correcting’ what Sonic had ended on. “Well I don't remember Knuckles having to step in. Are you sure you remembered that correctly?” Tails rolled his eyes, knowing that Sonic was just lying to keep up his ego. “Regardless, you needed our help when you faced it off alone.” “Ehhh, I think I still had dust in my eye…” Tails laughed it off. “Whatever you want to believe, since I’ll have the correct memory here.” Tails tapped his forehead, taunting Sonic with the fact that he was very much going to bring it up another time.
“Actually another thing I really remember was that giant dragon thing!” Tails shifted. “Do you mean Trip’s superform, or the one you fought?” Sonic picked a stray quill out of his head. “The giant purple one. Don’t really remember much of it now, since it was a while ago, but yeah.” Sonic flicked the quill out of his hand, falling into the ocean with a small splash. Sonic slouched over a little, resting his face in his hands.
Tails gave Sonic a confused stare for a solid 10 seconds. “You mean to tell me you remember Speed Jungle more than something you fought in your superform?” Sonic laughed, his warm breath visible in the cold, sharp air. “Yeah. Wasn’t the coolest thing I fought…” Tails still in disbelief moved on, thinking about how Sonic could forget that so easily.
A cold sharp breeze blew by, raising the fur on Tails’ back. He wrapped both of his tails around his torso. Sonic sat back upright. “Gettin’ pretty cold, huh?” Tails’ ears perked up a little. “No, just a cold breeze. Nothing much…” Sonic looked down at the sea, and behind him at the terrain. “Well I mean I would get something warm like a blanket, but we are sitting on a platform high up so…” Tails glanced down at the scenery below. “Nonono it’s fine! Like I said, just a small breeze.” Sonic shrugged. “Eh, if you say so…”
As the night went on, a small, thin sheet of fog covered the ground and sea, made visible by the various lighting all around. Only just visible.
“Oh Tails, don’t you think that looks like Chaos when he consumed all the Emeralds” Tails corrected Sonic, unfolding his Tails from his body. “You mean Perfect Chaos?” Sonic rolled his eyes at the correction. “Same difference…” “No not really…” Sonic folded his arms. “Moving on from that…” Tails sighed.
“Man, now that I think about it, Chaos did a heck lot of damage. Like, he tore down all of Station Square, huh?” Tails drew in a breath. “I mean, he was like, very big and the flooding did not help. He also drained all the Chaos Emeralds too.” Sonic and Tails both visualized that very event, looking up into the stars as if they were watching the event right before their eyes.
Everything was in ruin. Towers and skyscrapers had tilted over and banged into other buildings, causing collateral damage. Flames from gas stations and electronics flickered and spread, smoke rising through the air and making it hard to breathe or see, as it burned everyone's eyes.
Lights from street lamps and stores flickered on and off, reflecting in the rising water. Streets and pathways had crumbled and caved in, sinking beneath the water. Car alarms were blaring all around, making a loud and distressing sound. However, above all was the deep, piercing roar that Chaos let out as he laid waste to anything still standing, turrets of water blazing through the streets.
G.U.N helicopters circled around, whirring and piercing through the wind.Attempting to disarm the creature, they had sent missiles and rockets at it, screeching as they sped past. No explosions or bangs were heard however as they did no damage to the creature made of water, sinking down to the base of him and floating out to sea.
Finding the attackers, Chaos sent sharp and precise jets of water at the vehicles occupying the skies, cutting clean through. Each one making a loud bang or pop as they all blew up, whatever was left of the frame falling into the water or structures and causing further damage.
Everyone was screaming and running in terror, hiding in toppled buildings that could no longer fall, or evacuating the area, footsteps rippling the water.
However, a few did not flee; standing on a fallen road was Sonic, watching Perfect Chaos continue his reign of terror. As the water levels rise, the smell of salt water and oil becomes more overwhelming by the second, burning at Sonic’s throat. His fur had become damp and heavy, pointing more downwards. His gloves and socks were soaked, darker in color.
He watched as Eggman’s ship slowly flew in, the engines working at a high pitch. “Eggman! Looks like he’s after the Chaos Emeralds too!” Unable to do anything from down below, he watched as Eggman flew in closer to the main scene. Static rings out at a high frequency before they adjust, Eggman’s voice blaring though. “This Egg Carrier Two was made because something like this could happen. You have defied your master, stupid beast. Now you must be destroyed at all costs!”
Facing Perfect Chaos, Eggman prepares to launch something, alarms going off. Chaos sees this and opens his mouth wide open. A ball of energy grows at quick speeds, before a massive laser of blue and purple goes forth, cutting the stress and towers in half as he raises it up to the Egg Carrier, not stopping until it’s facing the sky. Smoke bellows out from the gaps of the Egg Carrier, as sparks follow suit. Purple particles fade out from where the laser was last.
Emergency alarms go out as the ship begins to fall downwards, gliding in between structures, no longer in sight. Last thing to be seen of the ship was the giant ball of fire that shot out from wherever it landed, a giant boom rattling the skies. Before Sonic could make a taunt about that bening the end of him, a small scream is heard as he goes flying high up into the sky, seated in his Eggmobile.
Sonic had seen too much damage in one day for his liking, clenching his fists and gritting his teeth. “I’ve had enough! Who do you think you are anyway?” Chaos however, could not hear his angry shouts as he was too tall and too far away. What he did not prepare for was a small, red neon orb to gently fall from the sky towards him. Red particles flickered off the light, fading into the air.
Shuddering above the ground, Sonic holds his hand underneath it, palm facing upwards. “Oh, it’s you, the one who sealed Chaos… In the Master Emerald! Tikal!” As the red light hovered there above his hand, red light reflected with ease over Sonic as water dripped down his fur, glinting and highlighting the dark shadows. Despite his senses burning under the intensifying smell of salt water and smoke, he kept his focus on the moment happening right before him.
A bright flash consumed Sonic’s line of vision as it died out to reveal Tikal standing in front of him, grasping both of her hands. Drawing in a breath, she spoke to the hedgehog. “My heart has always been in the Master Emerald along with chaos’. Now he is filled with anger and sadness.” She looks up at Chaos, in fear and worry, voice quivering. “If it goes on, he’ll eventually destroy the world like he did before!” As she says those final words, Chaos lets out a long, ear-splitting roar as the Chaos Emeralds emerge from him, circling above him.
Lowering his head as he let out a low rumble, the Emeralds blast forward like shooting stars, scattering everywhere. Dark blue plummeted down, clattering like an empty glass bottle as it hit the pavement, scraping the concrete as it rolled on its side, resting at Sonic’s shoe. Before Sonic could even dare to pick it up, the light diminished, dulling to a dark and lifeless gray. Any energy radiating from it faded as its neon pulse slowed. Its final breath was visible in the vivid blue static that bounced off it and onto the ground, jittering across the water.
Tikal in pure dismay, stared down at the cold Emerald, covering her mouth with her hands. “He’s absorbed the Emeralds power! He must be sealed in the Master Emerald, now!” Sonic, looking down at his reflection in the glass Emerald, shook his head. “How can that help?” Sonic looked up to face Tikal, clenching his fist in front of his chest as he stepped forwards, scuffing the Emerald on the ground. “It won't change how he feels inside. His heart will still remain in turmoil and his anger just won’t vanish! He’ll just be trapped forever!”
As he finishes his sentence, the ground below shakes and quivers as Chaos does more damage close by, bellowing cries of rage. Tikal, trying to talk over the commotion, steps closer to Sonic, making herself more easy to hear. “What choice do we have?” Her voice becomes more filled with worry each time the sounds of something being torn apart echoed through the scene.
Nearby, while Sonic had his conversation to Tikal, his friends had seen the displaced Emeralds shoot out and had gone after them. Big had found one by pure chance, as it had drifted through the water and plinked against the cold metal hook of his fishing rod. Neon red fizzling out as if the water was draining it and fading off to sea. Grabbing it out, as water slid down the smooth Emerald, he calmly made his way towards his dear blue friend.
Tails, knowing very well about the situation, did not hesitate to go and fly towards the one that had fallen closest to him. Finding it wedged between the windshield of a car. Glass fragments lay atop the Emerald and hood. Tails grabbed it firmly and yanked it out, small shards of glass flying outwards from the force, chattering on the ground. He brushed off any remaining glass with the side of his hand briskly. With no time to lose, he sped towards Sonic, his tails whirring behind.
Amy had been watching Chaos from afar, standing on a relatively straight tower watching him ditch the Emeralds. Various colors reflecting off of the metal structures and flooding water. In a mere second, a blinding streak of cyan light whipped right past her head and landed with a bang as small chunks of rubble bounced off her hand, protecting her face in reaction.
Opening her eyes and moving her hands to her sides, she saw cyan static pop and fizzle as a darkened Chaos Emerald was left behind. No longer warm or pulsing, but dead and gray. Grabbing it in her palm, she swiftly went to find Sonic.
Knuckles had already known beforehand. So in advancement, he already had a stale Emerald in one hand, clenching it firmly to assure that it would not be going anywhere else. Using only one hand to cling onto the surface of an unstable pillar, he located the other Emerald.
It was drifting away from the city as the water levels had risen. Retracting his namesakes that he had dug into the pillar, as concrete burst outward, he glided downwards towards the lost Emerald. Nabbing the last one, he landed with a splash. To his luck, the water was shallow since he was standing on a sunken bridge. Slowly, he began to make his way back to his friends, water above his waist.
Sonic and Tikal had stood there in silence as Sonic watched Tikal fear the worst about the situation. Hearing slow footsteps, he turned to see Big with an Emerald in hand. Big, oddly calm and happy, reached his arm out, a Chaos Emerald in hand. “Sonic! I found this in the water and thought you could use it!” Big's low voice rattled off the Emerald as Sonic carefully took it out of his hand, not knowing what to say as he saw his other friends arrive with the rest of the Emeralds.
“Hey, Sonic!” Amy cheerfully waved to him as she ran up with another Emerald. “Here, take this!” She enthusiastically shoved it into his other hand, hoping that he could fix everything. Knuckles casually dropped in with two in tow, grinning. “Hey guys, what's up?” Tails joined in next to Knuckles staring at awe at the ones he had collected.
Another loud roar rippled the water as the skies shook and trembled. Tails, seeing this as his chance, walked closer to Sonic, explained what needed to be said. “Chaos only used the negative powers of the Chaos Emeralds.” Locking eyes with Sonic, as Knuckles moved in closer, he continued. “Sonic, you should be able to harness their real power!” Knuckles drew in a heavy breath, stubbornly agreeing. “As much as I hate to admit it, I think Tails is right about this.”
Tails nodding to what he said, finished what he was saying. “Negative forces aren’t the only way to empower the Chaos Emeralds. Our positive feelings toward each other can make them work. Our hearts together form a stronger power!” Knuckles walked up to face Sonic, as he handed over both Emeralds. Sonic cradling them in one arm as he reached over to pick up the one that had fallen beside him earlier.
He looked up to face Tails, as the last Chaos Emerald was offered in the base of both his hands, arms outstretched. Sonic reached out to grab it, holding on for a second. “Thank you.” Gripping onto it and lifting it from Tails, the Chaos Emeralds began to pulse in their lost colors, like a heartbeat.
In a mere second after, a golden light spiked outwards from the hedgehog, growing stronger and bigger each second. A burst of energy sprang outwards, a loud boom as Sonic was no longer on the ground. Rather, he was hovering above it. His now golden quills turned upright. Warmth radiated off of him as the water on his shoes slid onto the ground. A golden aura covered him as the air surrounding him quivered and became disoriented. Looking up to the sky, his eyes now a crimson red, he took, knowing what to do.
Flying above broken streets and upturned roads, he blasted across the terrain, dodging broken glass or metal that was sticking out from every direction. Darting in between buildings searching for Chaos, his golden light trailing behind. Each time he zoomed across the water, it split at the very surface, spraying outwards, fizzling if the water droplets came in close contact to Sonic.
Blazing through a cloud of thick smoke, he spotted Chaos’ emerald eyes. Making a sharp turn, he made a straight beeline at him. Halfway there, he started to drift off and feel dizzy. He was losing the energy to keep going. He needed more rings. Almost bouncing off the water, he spotted a group of golden rings. He took a detour and grabbed them off the ground, cold metal contrasting the warmth of his aura. Feeling a boost of energy, he picked back up the pace, hovering higher up over the sea, he made his way back to Chaos.
Reaching Chaos, he collided with the base of his form, water spraying outwards from where he went blazing into it. Now inside the body of water, he started to spiral right around his base, going higher and higher up, bubbles bursting out from behind in a cyclone. He held his breath deeply, not certain on his ability to breath underwater in a Superform. Sonic’s golden light illuminated Chaos from the inside, bouncing around and making him look like a night lamp. Reaching his neck, his spiral narrowed, until he reached his mind, floating stiffly above his eyes, the only organic things visible inside Chaos.
Chaos screamed in pure agony as Sonic spin dashed into his brain, being vulnerable and out in the open. Loud, high-pitched wails rung out, over all the alarms going off and fire crackling. Flailing his head around, as water gushed out, he slunk into the water, retreating from the scene. Sonic had burst out of Chaos before he sunk down with him too, his gloves and socks heavy from the water absorbed into them.
Sonic looked around in between the toppled towers for where he had gone. A stiff silence filled the air as nothing but the warm buzz off the Chaos Emeralds energy radiated from him. Seeing a tall figure reform in the distance, Sonic shook his head. “Gonna take more than that to leave the battle.” He went forwards, ducking inbetween buildings and windows, not letting anything stop him from reaching Chaos.
Enraged by the attack, as he saw Sonic rapidly jet towards him, he began to act out. Raising his head to the sky, screeching slow and deep, he summoned golden orbs of light around him, launching them forwards at the hedgehog, looking similar to Sonic dashing about in his form. “Well that's not good!” Rolling around in the air, he dodged the attacks, as they collided with the background instead. Since Chaos was not being direct with where they hit, rather, sending them in one general direction, some collided into the buildings ahead of Sonic.
Groaning under the weight of the many walls of metal, as one energy blast hit a tower, the top of its frame began to slide downwards, before the sound of metal screaming against metal rumbled. It came falling down, metal wires and poles snapping as it crashed into the side of another tower. Glass blew outwards from the pressure, bouncing off of Sonic as he sumersalted just quick enough to avoid being crushed between the two structures.
Now with nothing stopping him, he made his way towards Chaos’ head, instead of trailing up the base of him like last time. Curled into a ball, he sliced clean through the water as he made a direct hit to his brain once again, causing more wails and screams. More water gushed out of Chaos as his head dramatically dangled around, banging into the sides of structures. He slowly slunk back down once again, disappearing into the water. From all the chaos and screams, Sonic’s ears had begun to ring loudly, muffling the sounds of anything else.
While Sonic floated there in the spot, arms crossed as he scanned the terrain for where Chaos had popped back up, the water underneath him bubbled. Out of nowhere, Chaos’ tentacles had burst out of the water, attempting to grab Sonic. Sonic merely batted an eye as he watched Chaos grab him, only for the tentacle-shaped water to fizzle and evaporate, not even touching him. Sonic laughed at the attempt, as he whipped his body right around to see Chaos had rised back up behind the attack.
Not even bothering to curl up and hit him with force, he zoomed right up to him, and sent a kick right at his head once more, dealing the final blow. All the water-formed tentacles had burst, falling back into the sea as Chaos screeched once again in a high pitch, much longer than the last two. Water dripped back down into the ocean, as if he was melting. Going down, he faced his head high up into the sky, letting out his final cry as he sunk back down. Once gone, a giant blue flash filled the air, blinding Sonic, and everyone watching nearby.
Sonic, feeling light-headed, knew that his Superform was coming to an end, raced across the landscape to reach his friends, watching as the water flooding the area started to sink down. Only just making it to his friends, he fell through the sky, as Knuckles and Tails caught him, watching as their friend's golden glow almost melted off, fading away along with the warmth of the Chaos energy. “You alright Sonic?” Tails softly asked, wanting to know if he had sustained any injuries from the fight.
Sonic, getting up and leaving his friends grasp, stood up, dusting off some rubble that was stuck in his quills. “I think if anything my shoes took more damage than I did.” Laughing it off, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles, turned to see Chaos in his regular form confronted by some chao. “Chaos has changed again. This time, for the better.” Knuckles filled in, seeing him peacefully watch the chao happily call out to him. “Yeah! Super Sonic must have neutralized it, so it’s nice again.” Tails added, watching the happy conclusion.
“Well at the end of the day, I was left with having to buy new gloves, since they forever more smelt like salt water.” Sonic had joked to Tails, as they finished recapping the memory to each other. Tails just laughed at Sonic’s remark, cold air soothing his throat. “At least you had your Superform, that kept you dry. We all got soaked. My tails looked all thin and shaggy!” That time they both laughed.
While sitting there in silence, Sonic took a long breath. “2 to 1.” Tails turned around, hummed in confusion. “I mean, I’ve spotted two shapes in the sky, and you’ve seen one. So that means I am in the lead.” Tails lowered his eyelids in a skeptical way. “Oh really? I can make it 2 to 3, just watch.” Sonic grinned. “Heh, let's see then.”
Both were intensely staring up at the sky for another cluster of stars that were shaped in the image of something familiar to them. As the night moved on, the wind gently whistling by, fog receding back into the air, Tails almost jumped, pointing right above him and Sonic. Sonic squinted his eyes, leaning back as he could not crane his neck up that far. “Don’t you think that looks like Starline’s glove?” Now on his back to see it clearly, Sonic could indeed make that out to be the doctor's glove. “Yeah, but how’d you see that? It’s right above us?”
Tails held up a finger. “I told you I’d get you 2 to 3!” Sonic shrugged, letting out a long exhale. “Well actually 2 to 2.” Sonic said under his breath before saying something else on top of that. “He sure did a lot of messed up things while he was around. Even went after you, didn’t he?” Tails hummed in response, nodding his head stiffly. “What even happened back there? Since me and Shadow were outside dealing with other things. “Honestly not much, he just tried to grab me again, which failed.” “Surely he did more than that!” Sonic doubted Starline turning over just like that. “Honestly, apart from when he had me tied up on the rollercoaster, he did nearly nothing.”
The chateau’s smell of pine wood wafted through the air as Tails, Belle, Rouge, and everyone else there evacuated the people staying to a safer location, as Starline had sent down an avalanche as part of his plan. The ground was faintly rumbling, already giving the warning to leave. Footsteps echoed around the fancy building as everyone ran out. However, while the main crowd was going one way, someone was walking forwards, towards the group of heroes.
Omega’s static voice rang out as he ‘encouraged’ the guests to leave. Tails was covering his ears since he was right beside him. He could, however, hear Rouge. “We should get going, too.” Before they could even take a step, someone announced themselves. “No, you’re not going anywhere.” Starline was standing there, facing down Tails.
“I am having a very long day, so I’ll keep this simple. All I need is young master Prower there… Hand him over and you can go. Deal?” Amy clenched her hammer tightly. “Dream on, jerk!” Amy and Rouge jumped forward to attack the deranged doctor, floorboard creaking as they both stepped forward. Belle just watched, mouth open as she became confused. “Who is that guy?” “Dr. Starline? An Eggman wannabe.”
As Tails says that, Starline presses something on his glove, as a red, loose aura forms around him, deflecting both Rouge and Amy’s attacks easily. Belle, getting worried, steps back a little, the wooden planks on the ground groaning under her weight. “That doesn't look like a wannabe to me…” “Don’t worry. Nobody can beat Amy when she’s made up her mind!” As if to show, Amy gets a direct hit to Starline’s jaw, cracking loudly. Rouge also gets some pretty good hits in too, winding him as she gets him in the chest with a kick.
Getting irritated with the halt in his plans, he pressed something on his glove again, as a blue aura danced around his body. In a flash, he was in front of Tails, a loud boom as he came to a stop. Even Tails had jumped in shock, his namesakes wildly spinning behind him. Starline grabbed onto said tails, pulling at his fur roughly. “Time to go, fox.” He said that last word with a hind of venom, clearly annoyed. Tails, gritting his teeth so hard that he heard them click. “I dont think so.”
Quickly facing Belle, he grabbed her tail, rough rope rubbing against his gloves as he tugged it. Wooden gears clicking into place as the sound of a thin, tight rope quivered. Starline only just noticed her presence right then. “What in the world…?” Belle got scared, voice shaking. “Ah, my tail-” Before she could finish, her legs jumped up in front of her, getting Starline right under the jaw, teeth clashing up as they gritted against each other painfully.
Tears welled up in his eyes, as he grasped his bill, shaking from the shock. “Oh come on! What even was that!” He started to see stars, the hit being a lot more powerful than Tails expected. As the three stood there, with Amy and Rouge approaching fast, the ground shook violently, as rumbling got closer to where they were. “Wait, what is that Sound?” Starline muttered, still feeling sore, a metal taste filling his mouth.
Rouge, Amy, and Tails ran out of the scene as fast as they could, with Tails holding onto Belle’s arm. Starline however, was still disoriented, and could not get out of the way, head beginning to ring, and still seeing stars, making it impossible for him to tell where to go. As Tails and co were safely out of the way, the snow began to build up on the giant glass windows, pressure building up in seconds as more and more snow, trees, and debris piled up.
Starline then realized what would happen, shielding his face with his palms. As if on queue, the glass and wooden beams gave in, snapping like a twig as glass shattered and mixed in with the snow, clattering against the wooden roof and remaining walls. As the snow reached Starline, along with all the shards of glass and splinters of wood, giving Starline nasty cuts, he yelled out as he was buried alive. Underneath the cold, he began to shiver violently, frostbite starting and making the pain in his bill worse. It did not help that some snow had lodged itself up his fancy jacket, giving him a nasty shock.
Tails and everyone else, including the guests, were safe on the higher floors, looking outside as everything down below was buried in thick, solid snow. Even some trees had snapped and fallen down with it. All the fresh snow, being high up the mountains, gave the air a cold, damp, metal smell.
“Huh, I guess not much really happened after all…” Tails just nodded. “Yeah, thankfully his avalanche backfired at just the right time.” Sonic just burst out laughing, almost choking as the night air made his throat dry and hoarse. Coughing a little, he grinned, still chucking. “But you and Belle gave him a good hit! He had it coming if he tried to mess with any of you!” Tails just gave a small laugh, avoiding hurting his throat from the piercing cold. “Yeah, Belle can defend herself much more than she’ll give herself credit. After all, her frame is pretty sturdy and can withstand a lot of damage.”
Sonic sat upright shivering, pressing his knees to his chest and wrapping. “Wow, getting a lot more cold than before!” Tails had his namesakes lightly pressed up to his sides, as he had thicker fur that was withstanding the cold much better. “Well yeah, it's late at night and the sun has gone down. It’s not like there's going to be warm rays of moonlight.” Tails sassed off Sonic, in a know-it-all voice, winding him up.
“Well with all the crazy things going on around us, there might be a moon that acts as the sun!.” He had his hands to his hips, grinning. Of course Sonic was just saying that to be annoying. But Tails played along. “Whatever floats your boat…”“Ahh Tails, why so mean!” They both sat there, as they laughed.
All the fog that was on the ground disappeared, making the reflections in the water much more clear. Sonic and Tails were still holding their heads up to the sky. While the glove and helmet were still fairly easy to see, the stars appearing like Chaos had disappeared somewhere else. Sonic opened a single eye to the glove, lying back down on the ground with his arms propping his head back up. “Well, Starline did much more than try to take you.”
Rather than answering, Tails just focused primarily on the glove. “I mean, he did some pretty bad things. He brought Eggman back to his old self, which then brought the Metal Virus, he then, like we just talked about, tried to take you. He then kidnapped Belle until the Chaotix got there. To top it all off, he then did something to Surge and Kit. It’s a shame that we still don’t know the full story to that either, only that he used a bunch of stuff to make them…”
Sonic’s face had gone from calm to more focused and thoughtful, still not happy with Starlines actions. “Well I am pretty sure he also broke Zavok, Mimic, and Rough and Tumble out too…” Tails had his finger to his chin while Sonic sat upright. “Wait, he was the one who did that?!” Sonic, genuinely confused, stared at Tails with his mouth agape. “Yeah, I thought you knew that already…?” Tails lowered his eyelids as Sonic shook his head. “Nope, too focused on other things to realize that…”
“Well now you know…” Sonic just hummed. “Well I guess it's good now that he is gone.” Sonic held his breath as he stared down into the water. “Do you think Surge and Kit rea-” “Warp Topaz!” Sonic turned an ear to Tails in confusion. “I don't recall Starline using the Warp Topaz on them-” Tails shook his head frantically. “No, I can see the Warp Topaz! When reflected in the water, the stars look like the Warp Topaz! So now it’s 2 to 3, putting me in the lead!” “Oooh. Wait, if you see the Warp Topaz reflected in the water, would that not make the stars show an upside down version of it?” Tails shook his head, humming a no.
“It’s like when you flip a drawing, it looks odd or incorrect one way, and perfect another way.” Sonic squinted his eyes, darting from the sky to the sea. “I mean they both kinda look the same either way-” “Nope!” Tails butted in. Sonic looked up to Tails. “Well I mean, can we really say you get another point? There are a whole heap of stars that look round. You could say any of them are the Topaz.” Rolling his eyes, Tails pointed to the silhouette in the water. “No look, there is the spiral, curling inwards, and the smaller stars further apart look almost like a gradient, which makes sense given the material it's made of.” Sonic, letting out a long sign. “Well I guess that makes me second place now…”
Tails pumped his fists discreetly, whispering under his breath victory. Sonic had leaned back into the soft grass, feeling it brush up against him lightly. Resting with his eyes closed, and taking in another breath, he turned his head to face Tails. “Didn’t we use the Topaz to get all the Chaos Emeralds at once during the Metal Virus?” Tails turned his face down to Sonic, picking off fluff and dirt stuck in his glove. “Yeah, me and Amy had gone after Zomom, while everyone else went after different Zeti.” “Oh yeah! I kinda forgot since I was getting tired. Although I think I only got Cream’s side of the story when she jumped in to help Gemerl with Zeena.”
Still keeping his eyes shut, he turned his head back to the sky, repositioning his head as his quills settled behind his head in an odd way, sticking out in funny angles and poking at his head. “That's an idea. Why don’t you tell me about Zomom? See how you and Amy fought him compared to me?”
Tails stared down at him in a funny way. Sonic did not notice though as he still had his eyes closed to the sky. “Well he had an Emerald and we were not too experienced with fighting him…” “You came back to us, can’t have been that much of a hassle. I mean, it’s Zomom of all people.” “Ok, but still, remember when you fought him he had no Emerald!” Chuckling, Sonic nodded, agreeing.
Wind was whirring by, ears buzzing as he and Amy fell out of the warp portal. His skin was prickling and his fur was standing on end. Getting back to his senses, he reactively grabbed Amy by the arm with both hands, just before they fell onto the ground. “Woah! That was pretty close!” Amy quietly said, looking down to the ground. Smashed glass bottles were scattered everywhere, light glinting off them. Tables were turned or snapped, objects broken on the ground nearby.
“What happened here?” Tails, darting his eyes around until he found a spot on the ground that had no broken glass, flew over slowly, his tails chopping in the wind. “Looks like either the Zombots tore this place apart, or Zomom.”
Landing on the concrete path they both looked around for any signs of Zombots. Something clattered and smashed behind Amy, as she turned around, gripping her hammer tightly, ready to hit the incoming attacker. “Amy wait! I just knocked something over when I landed on the ground with my tails.” He whispered, hand on her shoulder as she dropped her arms downwards. “Tails! You gave me a fright!” Grinning sheepishly, he put a hand behind his head, scratching it. “Sorry…”
Amy sighed as her hammer disappeared from her hands, looking around. “So, where is he?” “Well…” Tails’ ear swiveled around to his right, picking up something. Watching closely, he saw a small group of Zombots inside a crumbled building walking in a line, carrying small plates of food. He pointed to them, catching Amy’s attention. “Judging from the fact that he likes to eat, we follow that.” He whispered at her, as the two stepped around broken glass, heading towards the door of the building they were in.
Tails led the way, ducking under toppled tables and chunks of stone that had fallen from some kind of structure. Using his soft tails like a duster, he briskly shoved aside glass or objects that they could stand on and cause a bit of noise. Only soft scratching of the glass could be heard, scraping against other glass shards or the rough stone underneath them. Amy was pinning her dress down, worried of it snagging onto something and getting caught or dragging it down and making a loud sound.
“Ok, gotta be even more careful here.” He whispered almost under his breath, with Amy only just hearing him. Grabbing the door knob he froze, feeling the inward metal patterns on the fancy handle through his thick glove. He shook his head lightly as he gestured with his hand for Amy to follow.
Walking along the wall, he found a broken window that reached the floor to the ceiling. Pressing their shoes firmly against the ground, leather squeaking with the slow pressure, they both darted towards a vending machine, hiding behind the side of it as they saw the Zombots leaving through another broken door, hanging by a single hinge. Tails had his hand out, stretched in front of Amy as he waited a few more seconds before giving a thumbs up as the two cautiously jogged down the hallway, reaching the door frame and looking outside.
There was Zomom, in the far end of the room, eating non-stop as the group of Zombots they followed dropped their plates down in front of Zomom, leaving almost instantly in their sluggish walk. Confused on what to do, Amy shrugged, holding her palms up to the ceiling. Tails shrugged too, not having a plan as they could not just sneak up on him in the open. They both turned their heads towards Zomom again, watching as they tried to come up with a plan.
Tails sighed, looking at Amy. She gave him a confused look before Tails stepped forwards, brushing debris away with the side of his shoe. “Um…” Tails cleared his throat, as Amy gave tails a concerned look. “Hey Zomom. Long time no see…” His voice was all over the show, shaking in fright of not having a better idea.
He turned his head at a freakish angle, facing the two as Tails bumped his shoulder into Amy, trying to get her to play along. They both took one step forward, sweat trickling down their heads. Zomom, with his mouth full, spoke to them with his thick voice. “Huh? Oh. You’re Sonic’s friend with the weird tail.” He had his gaze on Tails’ shifting namesakes, as he folded them behind his back, keeping them stiff. Uncertain, Tails wiped his head with the side of his glove, trying to put on a fake smile. “Uh yeah, sure. Listen, Zavok sent us to find you.”
In the middle of chewing he spat out; “He did?” Amy looked to Tails, more sweat dripping down the sides of their heads. She too put on a nervous fake smile as she spoke up. “That's right! He needs the Chaos Emerald back. If you give it to us, we’ll take it to him for you.” Her voice was shaking, and Tails could even hear her heart starting to race. He added on to Amy’s sentence. “You won’t even need to stop eating!”
Clutching his fists, Zomom yelled out, angry. “No way! I’ve got Zombots bringing me food from all over!” Standing up, towering over Amy and Tails, spitting out food from his mouth as he yelled. “You two already interrupted my post-lunch pre-dinner snack! So now, I’m gonna squash you!” Tails and Amy backed up, as Tails bumped into an upright bottle on a bench, falling to the ground and smashing, getting the attention of nearby Zombots.
“Run!” Tails and Amy both jumped over the bench, and through the hallway they came through as Zomom jumped after them, swinging his arms around like crazy. Almost out the window that they came through, Zomom landed, caving in the ground he was on and thundering the area, sending the two running away to the ground. Tails banged his head against one of the toppled tables, as a throbbing sensation grew at his temples.
“C’mon Tails, we gotta get out of here!” Grabbing Tails by the shoulder, she lifted him up as she ran, avoiding the further collapsing building as Zomom’s arms hit the walls around, caving in the roof. As he and Amy made it out, Zomom jumped through the hole above, soaring through the air as he chased after the duo.
“How is someone that big that fast?” Amy yelled out as the jumped over obstacles blocking their path on the road. Zomom landed with a thud on the ground once again, toppling Amy and Tails, sending astray items flying. Tails, getting up on his own, hand pushing against his knee, turned to Amy. “Just keep running! Amy grabbed her hammer, swinging around to face Zomom. “No! We came here to get that Chaos Emerald and end this nightmare!” As she ran up to the Zeti, her footsteps heavy as she carried her weapon over her shoulder, Tails flew up. “Wait! Amy, no!” He pinned his ears back, hand outstretched as he tried to get her to stop.
Swinging her hammer, scraping against the tiles on the floor, upturning them as they flew alongside her hit, she got Zomom right in the face, digging into his skin. Holding her hammer in place, looking to Tails as he landed besides her, she gave a confused glance. “I… I can’t believe that worked!”
Raising his head upwards, Zomom had his mouth wrapped around her weapon, teeth scraping against the sturdy material. “Hrmm… Weird flavor…” Tails was starting with his mouth hanging open, not having anything to say, as Amy went pale with disgust and anger. Digging her heels into the tiles on the ground, she pulled really hard on the handle, trying to get it out of his mouth. “Stop that you gross weirdo!” Tails sighed, as he jumped into the air, spinning his tails hard at the back of Zavok’s head. Yelling at the sudden hit, Amy fell backwards, the force of her pulling it out slingshot her onto the pavement, scattering the tiles she hit before.
“Ow! I’m gonna chew you extra hard before swallowing!” Spit flew out of his mouth as he spoke. Amy looked up, her ears tilted back. “Hes… He’s being metaphorical, right?” Tails just smiled, eyes closed, folding his arms. “Why bother with us when you can have my lunch?” Zomom froze as Tails flew up, closer to his head. “I dropped it while you were chasing us. Which is too bad, because it looked really yummy!” Getting up he thundered down the path that he came from, ground shaking with each step. “Ooh! Where?! Where?! I’m starving!”
Tails, looking shocked, as blood rushed to his head,he landed besides Amy; “That was.. A lot easier than I thought it would work out!” Amy was holding her hammer briskly in front of her, watching in disgust as a thick coating of saliva dripped off it and onto the ground. She lowered the head of it to the ground, keeping it away from her. “Tails, what are we going to do? Zomom is too strong for us to take down, and too stupid to outwit!” Cupping his mouth, Tails looked around for where he had run off too. “I don’t know. Sonic made this look way easier before.”
Tails darted an eye behind him, thinking he heard something. “He seems easily distracted. What if one of us baited him while the other grabs the Emerald?” Tails scratched his head, focusing on the scene around him. “It’s risky, but it's worth a shot!” A loud scream shook the ground as Amy whipped her head around, still keeping her hammer a spaced distance from her. Tails’ pupils shrunk, heart racing and blood rushing around, making him go warm.
Watching Zomom smash everything around him in a fit of rage, buildings clattering and rumbling as he hit the walls and pillars, everything crumbling down besides him. “There's nothing here!” Ripping a door right out of its frame, he threw it at Tails, rolling out of the way as it split in two, skyrocketing through the air. “You lied to me!”
Tails and Amy backed up, watching Zomom. “Now you made me hungry and angry. I’m hangry! You wouldn’t like me when I’m hangry!” As he says that, a group of Zombots begin to emerge from the sides of buildings, groaning. “Ah! Time to get to higher ground!” Tails grabbed Amy swiftly, as he lifted her up by the arms. “I don’t think that's going to work!” Amy called out, as Tails glanced down. All the Zombots were climbing the walls of the building Tails was trying to land on. “Grr. Hang on!” Tails flew even higher up, soaring through the sky as he tried to get away.
Holding Amy up was straining his arms, as he started to tire, falling slowly. “I’m gonna have to land!” Before he could, his arms gave out, blood flowing through them fast. Pins and needles were stabbing at his forearm as he watched Amy fall. “Gah!” His namesakes chopping through the air came to a slow halt as he too started to fall downwards.
Amy used her hammer to wedge the head between a chimney and the side of the roof, dangling off the handle. She looked up to see Tails falling slowly. “Hang on, I got you!” Moving her hammer out of the gap, she jumped up, catching Tails in both of her arms as she landed on her feet, a small thud as the leather soles on her shoes absorbed the impact.
“Thanks.” Tails slid out of Amy’s arms, hovering above the ground before landing back down, wind pushed outwards. Tails looked behind Amy’s shoulder, seeing shiny green glint behind her. “Look out!” Without even looking back to see what it was, she swung her hammer around her torso, getting the Zombot right in the chest as the substance formed a giant hole where she hit it. “We gotta keep moving!” Amy nodded as the two started to navigate the buildings, watching as a wave of Zombots followed behind.
Launching her hammer onto the ground, as she propelled herself upwards onto the tiles of a red roof, she wiped her forehead with the back of her hand. Nearly out of breath, she saw Tails fly in besides her, staring at her sudden stop. “We can’t keep this up!” Hearing a Zombot grab a tile, as it slid down and clattered on the ground, she ran forwards, alongside with Tails. “I’m thinking! I’m thinking!”
Zomom, watching from the ground, clenched his fists. “Argh! You two are so annoying!” Jumping up into the ground, he lowered his fists into the pavement, shaking the whole town. Tables, tiles, and stones all flew upwards, alongside the Zombots, Amy, and Tails.
Amy was tripping over, about to fall off the roof she was on. “Tails!” As the ground continued to shake, Tails flew in and grabbed Amy under her arms, straining to lift her up. Flying above the commotion, he dropped Amy on some stable ground, collapsing besides her. She looked down at him. “Are you ok?” Tails got up, dusting off the glass that had launched into his tails. “Yeah, just worn out.” “But we got to kep moving!” “No, we need to stay right here!” His voice quivered, as he stood up.
He looked down to the ground, as the dust settled. They were standing atop of the portcullis, the walls connecting to it cracked and damaged. Hearing Zomon run up to them, Tails signaled for Amy to stand at the left wheel, while Tails stood at the right wheel. Holding his arm out, he watched Zomom get closer. “Hold it… Wait for it…”
Zomom, almost underneath them, ground shaking each step. Tails’ namesakes twitched. “Now!” Curling up and smashing into the wheel, chains clattering against the wall as they broke apart. Amy hit her hammer right into the wheel, spinning wildly. With both doing it at the same time, the gate closed at a rapid speed, almost hitting the ground in a mere second.
Zomom cried out as he got winded, the gate closed with him underneath it, metal bars jammed into the ground. Tails grabbed Amy as he flew down, almost feeling pity for the Zeti crushed in such a way. Almost. He was dazzled, groaning as he lay there, not even trying to get back up. “How do you like that? Overpowered.” Tails patted the blue Emerald, adding onto what Amy said,, “and outsmarted!”
Tails yanked out the Emerald, scratching against the metal that had it held in place. Tails and Amy ran off, heading back into the portal. “Hey! Get back here! Without that I can’t control the-!” Zomom cried out, only to be interrupted by the Zombots groans as they circled him.
Tails and Amy jumped into the Warp Portal, feeling their senses become distorted as their vision blanks out, only to be met with the sight of emerald green grass, falling down. Tails landed on his soft namesakes, cushioning his fall.
“Ha! He stood no chance against my lil bro!” Sonic had his arm around Tails, beaming as he listened into Tails’ story. “Well Amy was there too…” He sheepishly grinned, looking away as he had a hand to the back of his head. “But you also did it! Neither of you could pull it off solo!” Looking up to Sonic, Tails smiled, nodding.
“Wait what is the score so far?” “Uhh… I’m in the lead with 3, and you have… 2?” Sonic jumps up to his feet, darting his head back and forth, scanning the sky cartoonishly. “Welp, gonna have to change that-” Tails shook his head. “I don’t think rapidly looking around is going to help push you in the lead…”
Sonic crossed his arms, pressing them close to his body, feeling the warmth from his breath brush up against his chest. “Well I don’t see you pointing out any more soo… I’ll go ahead and say this is a good method!” Sonic had his hand over his head, scouting the sky. “Well I’d like to see that happen…” Sonic pouted, in a mocking tone; “I’d like to see you get one over me!” Tails’’ namesake whacked Sonic’s leg.
Most of the shapes that the duo pointed out had scattered into the distance, no longer visible. At this point, the sky was clear of any clouds, none above, around, or below them. Glaring down was the moon, acting like a beacon. Tails, by this point, had slumped forwards, in a light sleep. It had only been 10 minutes, but as it was late into the night, it became very hard to stay awake.
Something stood tall over Tails, wrapping him in darkness. “I found one!” Sonic burst forwards, over Tails, as he jolted upright. Tails froze for a second, before turning his head around to see Sonic. “C’mon, was that really necessary?” “Haha sure was, since now I have 3 points!” Tails cocked his head. “Oh really?” Sonic pointed up over the horizon.”I present to you, the Chocolate Chipped Cream Sundae Supreme!”
Tails sat there, looking up at where Sonic was pointing, confused. “What Cream Sundae?” “Right up there! See?” Tails lowered his eyelids. “Yeah, I see the ice cream, but what did you say?” Sonic froze, looking down at Tails, eyes open, before laughing into the night. “Oh yeah! You weren't there! Me and Chip met someone who was making some sundaes! Chip really liked them. Heh, actually that's why I nicknamed him that while he had his lost memory.”
Tails lit up. “Oh Chip! I miss him…” Sonic jumped down, crossing his legs as he looked up to the sky. “Yeah, me too. A real big shame too that we know for a fact we can’t see him again, since he won’t be here for a good few hundred years, but that’s why our time interacting with him was even more special.”
“I guess that is true. But like, what kind of sundae is called that?” Sonic hummed a confused sound, shrugging gently. I guess explaining it all in the title? Either way, I just called it a supreme sundae, since that name is far too long for me to bother ‘round with.” “I mean it would be a pain to write out, but saying it is not exactly a problem…” “Says the one who writes in advanced code hourly!” Sonic quipped in.
“Yet here you are, unable to.” Tails remarked to himself, holding up three fingers to his forehead. Sonic stared back at him, holding his breath in as he thought of a reply. Letting his breath go, releasing the small strain on his chest as he took another breath in, his throat dry from the cold air. “Ehh, sure. I mean, after all, I’ve never done anything at all that is so much cooler than being able to read a buncha 0’s and 1’s. Yet let’s both agree on that.”
Tails had pressed his knees close into his chest, wrapping his arms around them, his namesake’s folded in against his sides. Most of the cold air was not affecting him much to any degree, the only shivers he would get were down his spine, as it was more exposed to the sharp air. Sonic managed to somehow sit there with his legs dangling down the side of the platform, rubbing up against the dirt on the sides of the platform, rough small clusters of dirt, sticking to the back of his legs.
“How’re you not cold at all?” Tails looked directly at Sonic, a cloud of fog escaping his mouth. “Well when you think as much as I do, that's enough willpower to fight off against any kinda weather.” Tails frowned. “With actual facts.” Tails unfolded his left tail to gently whack Sonic’s arm. “Well then I dunno, I just don’t notice it I guess?” Tails shrugged, but before he was able to turn his head back to the sea, Sonic added on, “I even remember Chip asking me that haha!”
Tails pressed himself even more closer, as the night air dropped in temperature. “Was that when you were in Holoska?” “Indeed it was! I explicitly remember Chip’s wings freezing up badly whenever he followed behind me, so sometimes I carried him over to where we were heading off.” “Really?” “Yeah! We were looking for a Moon Medallion to open up the gates to get to the next temple, but it was taking a while to get through since the ice was making it hard to run.”
Sonic and Chip were making an advancement through the white blurs of snowfalls whizzing by as they ran, no sounds other than the piercing wind and Sonic’s footfalls. Running down the path through the thick snow, Sonic only left faint footprints behind, running at such high speeds that he left near no weight for each step as he burst forwards.
Chip’s little wings were slicing through the snow, beating fast as he tried to keep up with Sonic. Although he was not going full speed, the snow and frost was making it difficult for Chip to manage flight at all. Constantly wavering alongside, he came to a sudden slow, lowering to the ground. Sonic felt a change in winds, as he dug his heels into the snow, sinking down slightly as his weight settled atop of the fluffy powder.
Turning his head around, he looked for his companion, only to see Chip submerged in the thick snow, facedown. “Hey, you alright there Chip?” Sonic crouched down on one knee, resting his palm atop of his leg. Sticking his hand out of the snow, as it crumbled down to the sides, Chip held a thumbs up. Freeing his other hand from the snow, he attempted to drag the rest of his body out from the snow.
Sonic sighed, as he went ahead and lifted Chip out of the ground, some snow falling down his palms. “There you go.” Sonic dusted off some of the remaining fluffy powder from his friend's back, using the side of his other hand. “All good?”
Chip cartoonishly shook himself off, standing back up, as some astray snow went flying. Sonic lowered his eyelids, flinching away as some snow flew right at his eyes. “Much better!” Sonic let out a soft laugh, as some snow fell down his head. “Alright then, lets get goin’!”
Just as Sonic went to turn around and continue with their path, Chip grabbed Sonic’s glove tightly. “Sonic wait!” Sonic paused himself, whipping his head around. “Yeah?” Chip, expecting Sonic to not have heard him in time before running off, loosened his grip on his glove. “I don’t think I can fly any further, it’s too cold.”
“Huh, well hold on!” Chip looked up at Sonic, confused. “What do you mean by that-” Just as he said that, Sonic held Chip firmly in both hands, as he blasted off, snow getting kicked up as he ran forth, leaving behind a big pile of snow where he stood.
“Woohooo!” Sonic began to slide down the slope of the mountain, big chunks of snow falling down with him. Echoing through the terrain were the loud booms and rolling of snow, kicking up trees, snapping and bending to the force of the avalanche. Digging his heels into the snow, as he maneuvered around large stones and trees, he went further and further down the hillside. Behind him were feint marks that were left behind his shoes.
Sonic had Chip held secure in his hands, pressed up against his chest. Chip was holding onto Sonic’s arms as hard as he could, frozen in fear. “Wooo! Isn’t this fun Chip?” Sonic called out, over the commotion following behind him. Chip dared to turn his head around, feeling the wind whipping past him as Sonic advanced further down. “I dunno Sonic, what if we get hit by the avalanche?” Chip’s voice quivered, getting cut short with the velocity that Sonic was going down at.
“Huh? I can’t hear you over all the noise behind me!” Sonic shouted out, looking downwards at Chip, keeping his head forwards. “Try speaking up a bit!” Chip turned his head to face Sonic, then down to the ground. “Uhh, nevermind!” He called out, the pitch of his voice unstable. Chip sunk down further into his hands as he heard something loud crash down near where they were sliding down.
Looking back, Chip saw the snow and ice catching up to the duo, nearly at Sonic’s heels. “Uh, Sonic-” Before Chip could warn the hedgehog however, an upturned log soared through the air, landing a few feet ahead of them. “That's no good. Hang on!” Sonic called out, as he fell down to his side, skidding across the snow, as he held Chip up from the ground. Positioning himself, he quickly slid right through the hollowed out segment of the log.
Chip, as he had his eyes firmly shut, opened them up to see that he was fine. “Oh, that wasn’t so bad-” Wind whistling, the avalanche catched up, mere inches away from the two. Branches from toppled trees flung outwards, as a big boulder went soaring right at the two. Crashing into the snow, Sonic had lost his grip on Chip, flying through the air, along with Sonic. Chip was quick to use his wings to the best of his ability, managing to avoid a big fall.
Trying to keep up with the head of the falling snow, he darted his eyes around to find the blue blur. “Sonic! Sonic, where are you?!” His voice echoed through the mountains, until he spotted his friend tumbling out of control amongst the avalanche. Flying as fast as he could, he approached Sonic, hovering nearby. “Sonic, you gotta find something to hold onto!” Still rolling, he yelled out; “I don’t think that’ll be of much hel-'' Shaking his head, Chip spoke over him. “No, the mountain is coming to an end! You’re about to fall!” Although dizzy, Sonic tried to look ahead of him, focusing despite spinning about the snow.
Attempting to slow his descent, he dug his heels back into the snow, finding an open window once his body stopped ragdolling around. Seeing the debris kicked up, he grabbed onto the branch of a pine tree, the strong, fresh smell of it’s leaves and bark filling his senses along with the violent spinning. Climbing on, he ran up the base of the trunk, jumping up and landing on another falling tree, repeating the steps until he saw up ahead some stable ground.
Rolling up into a ball, he propelled himself forwards, only just landing on the safe platform. Falling on his back, Chip landed beside him. “Sonic, are you alright?” Looking at the hedgehogs face, he had his eyelids lowered. “Uhh yeahh, just very dizzy…” Chip looked down to see the remains of the avalanche fall down the slope of the mountain. Sonic shook himself off, as he got back up, wobbling a little. “Ok, let's get back.”
Chip flew up to his face. “But what about the moon medal we need?” Sonic messed around with his quills, pulling out the said medal. “Saw it falling down along with the snow and grabbed onto it. Don’t know how it ended up there though… But anyways, we got it!” Sonic held it up triumphantly. Chip just looked at him awestruck, seeing the mess of his quills, with snow and sticks stuck into his spines. “Alright.”
Sonic looked at Chip. “You all good though, I feel that was a little much when it caught up…” Chip shook his head frantically. “No! That was really fun! Well not at first, but nonetheless exciting!” Sonic let out a breath of relief. “Oh, that's good to hear… Want to do it again?” “Yeah!”
Sonic squinted at Chip, scratching his head, with some of the remaining snow rubbing off onto his gloves. “Since when did you have eight wings?” Chip froze for a moment, holding his breath. “We should probably sit down for a moment before heading back…” Sonic looked at his hands confused, nodding his head, as he sprung himself down. “Yeah, that would be a better idea…”
“...I mean, we got the moon medal in the end! Just cost my ability to see an object as just one object haha!” Tails was just looking at Sonic oddly. “Even when covered in a heft of snow and ice, you were not cold, but you ended up dizzy?” “I mean I was spinning about for a good while until I did some totally cool platforming to safety!” Tails rolled his eyes. “Another great mystery yet to be solved…”
“Eh, but anyways now I’m tied with you, so the actual mystery to be solved here is who is going to get the next point and end the tie!” Sonic held his arms up in a dramatic fashion, determined to win the game that Tails forgot they were playing each and every time Sonic rambled on about an adventure. “Oh yeah! Lucky you were keeping count, I nearly forgot about it…”
Tails put both of his arms above his head, stretching upwards as he let out a yawn. Sonic smirked, cocky. “I thought you were all in it for numbers?” Shutting his eyes, Tails turned his head the other way. “Only the important numbers…” “Now that is harsh.”
In the distance some birds were chirping, the sounds faint, echoing through the high mountains. Above the line of the sea, some orange was glistening, stars fading away. Tails was sleeping on his back, in a deep slumber, curled up. Sonic was snoring, leaning forwards , back arched and arms dangling down. As the warm sun rose from the sea, light hitting the two, Sonic and Tails’ communicator went off.
Sonic jolted upwards, startled as Tails calmy got up. Sonic, regaining his balance, throwing his arms up into the air. Avoiding his fall into the water, he crawled back, keeping his shoes on the ground. “Oh man, we fell asleep!” Tails rubbed his eyes as Sonic continued on. “That;s a shame, I didn’t get to break the tie… Oh well.” Moving his glove back, Sonic fiddled with his communicator.
“Hey Tails, looks like Egghead is already back!” Tails let out an annoyed moan. “Well we should’ve seen that coming…” Sonic shrugged it off. “Well I guess that leaves our little game for later to break the tie.” Jumping back up, Sonic waved his hand at Tails for him to follow. “We can have round two tonight, but not all the way until morning.” Tails replied, standing besides Sonic. “Well let's get going!”
Jumping down, wind whipping through Sonic’s quills, Tails followed suit. Whipping his Tails in the air, he caught the hedgehog, as the two took off, speeding away, orange light hitting their backs. As the last of the stars died out, two vague shapes simmered. A hedgehog and a fox, playing together, standing out from all the little stars scattered near the ocean.

STH Rarepair Week 24 - Day 1 - First Encounter - Amy x Bark
Tumblr media
HAHAHA I DID IT
I WROTE IT
FOR THE SWEETIES
Thanks to @sonicrarepairweek2024 for the event that got me writing in English for the first time in my life!! (And to The Art of Letting Go EP by ANA that bangs as hell and kept me alive through the writing process)(I found out this music randomly and it turned out to be great)
The IDW comic shows the first encounter of Amy and Bark (I guess? I read it like a year ago,,, but now I think it did), but I got the vibe and reimagined it. This entire event will be severely vibe-based because I’m still unaware of the most of the Sonic lore :D
Fic under the cut! TW: amateur writing and possible grammar mistakes (I’ll fix it tomorrow after a good sleep)
The sun pours its light down on hills. It’d be hot today if there wasn’t a chilly breeze.
Another gust drags an umbrella from Amy Rose’s hands and makes it float away. She, who’s been trying to set it up, lets out a cry and follows it, but fails to catch it. With her eyes fixed on the umbrella she doesn’t watch her way and almost trips—but bumps into someone soft.
Amy looks up and sees a bear. He holds the umbrella awkwardly with both hands, like he doesn’t know what to do with it.
Few moments past, he hands it over to Amy, murmuring, “Here it is, ma’am.”
“Thank you!” she chirps. “You are so strong—would you please help me to get everything ready for a picnic?”
Amy’s been waiting for Sonic and Tails. Three of them always have picnics on Sundays, but today they seem to be late.
“We haven’t met, but if you joined us, it’d be a great chance to get to know each other! I’m Amy Rose, and what’s your name?” Amy inquires when watching the bear set up the umbrella effortlessly.
“Bark. Bark the Polar Bear,” he mumbles in reply.
He has to go, actually, but he doesn’t know how to put it to not offend the young lady. He’s on a mission—Fang and Bean, need him to complete his part of their plan. How has he ever managed to appear in the girl’s way?.. He sighs into his scarf and kneels to help her.
But it feels nice to unroll the colorful blankets and fill them with all kinds of snacks while listening to Amy’s sweet rumbling. It feels much better than doing what they call mischief-making—as soon as Bark listened to the Hooligan’s plan for today, he didn’t like it, considering it nasty. The girl would be upset to know that he was a part  of something like that.
“Won’t you stick around? Are you sure?” Amy asks when they are done.
Bark shakes his head and gets up. He is both flustered and strangely happy, and both of the feelings make him want to walk away.
“Okay… Thank you for the help anyway! I’ll be looking forward to seeing you again!”
Amy waves goodbye to Bark until he’s not in sight, and soon after that she turns around to Sonic’s loud greeting.
“Sorry for the lag, Am—we’ve got in a fight with guys who call themselves the Hooligans. Luckily, something went wrong on their side, so we’re here alive and well.”
“I’m just happy to have you here! It’s a pity though that you didn’t see the guy that has just gone away… He was so nice and helped me!”
Thank for reading this far! I’m a better writer, I promise, this piece is mid because I was focused on simply putting words together rather than making it good. But I hope it’s any good! Not too bad for the first time I think!

Sonic Generations prompt: Rosy comes along for the ride with Sonic and Tails. Obviously she's all over Sonic but she also can't believe how pretty her future self is. Modern Tails forgot how cute Rosy is and is glad to be taller for once. Knuckles and Rosy mock wrestle and everyone finds her adorable. When it's time to leave Rosy practicality wants to stay which makes Classic upset how could she *not* want to hang out with him? Eventually modern Sonic and Amy convince her to go back with them.
Inspired from this, I’ll use an idea I’ve had recently.

Guess what? Those Prompt things? STILL ON SHUTDOWN. DO NOT SEND ANOTHER HOMELESS PROMPT TO MY INBOX, THE SHELTER FOR ABANDONED PROMPTS IS CLOSED. Gosh, we barely have blankets to cover my toesies let alone more amazing prompt ideas! Sheesh!
Prompt
Red and white shoes skid with a screeching halt against a metallic plane, shining in a reflective light in the air above a circuit of routes looking more like flattened, winding snakes.
Lifting his head up, a sole hero smiles with a flicker of excitement glazing his eyes at a figure with a darker blue than his own… cased in heated steel, Neo Metal Sonic flares out his arms to show he’s ready for more.
Sonic, the hero of this tale, wipes his nose against his pale white glove and rises from having resisted a heavy impact hit… He stands confident and boldly, no fear, only amusement towards this rogue Eggman creation.
“That all you’ve got?” He mocked, ticking his tongue against the roof of his mouth to give clear conviction in each sound, a dictation diction to them.
“Hmph.” Neo Metal Sonic rose his head, his eyes slowly blaring the red lights within them. “You mock me for the last time, Hedgehog… I’ve come prepared this time.” He threw forward an arm, having his cape whip behind him in ecstasy at the revealed device now transforming from his shoulder down his arm, gripping him in fast-moving latches and spinning gears to reveal what looked like an arm now made to resemble Time Eater’s design.
Sonic took a step forward, marveling a moment as his eyes glanced back and forth at the new arm.
“Woah… Talk about a gaudy upgrade.” He flicked out a finger to lay upon the air, dismissing the cool, though exaggerated action of his timeless nemesis… Well, other than Egghead.
“Fool.” Neo Metal Sonic straightened up, holding his hand up to then ‘snap’ his fingers together.
A portal appeared, and with his other–normal–arm, he flexed it out to have electricity suddenly bundle on the ends of his finger tips.
In his palm, a bright button-like orb was attached, and shooting out, lifted in an electrical field… What Sonic hadn’t been expecting.
He had been searching for her, but…
“Amy..!” He lurched forward, his expression now one of concern and distress.
Neo Metal Sonic gave a culinary feast of laughter, delighting in seeing Sonic’s stance change, a fist held high, and his knees bent for action.
“Gahh… You dirty cheat!” Sonic somewhat growled a groan out, swiping his arm in front of him and stepping a foot even more forward, “Why can’t you just play honest and fair like the rest of us!?”
“I wasn’t built like the rest of you organic morons…” If he could smirk, he would, but his eyes did it for him. He leaned his head down and metallic eyelids from below grinned upwards to ‘squint’ his eyes in malicious pleasure.
“I figured, why not have a bit of fun? A race if you will…” Neo Metal Sonic looked to the portal forming out of purple swirling darkness, which had the strange shapes starting to appear of green hills and checkerboard brown and tan squares on the ground…
“Huh? You gotta let the past go sometime, Metal Me.” Sonic shook his head, and charged with lightning speed towards Neo Metal Sonic.
“Hahaha. Even I know you need a ‘running start’, Sonic.” He threw Amy into the portal.
“No!” Sonic’s eyes opened wide, seeing her unconscious form fly through the air in the electrical current that locked her in Neo Metal Sonic’s grasp, and disappear through the portal.
He skidded to turn, scrambling on the ground before holding a hand out to her, useless while on the ground.
Neo Metal Sonic laughed one last good chuckle, before turning in the air, his jets making him bounce somewhat in the atmosphere, and pulled himself into a half-curl before launching himself like a rocket through the portal.
“Enter… if you so dare to save your precious friend again…”
“Let’s have you eat those words, Metal Me!”
Sonic spun into a spin-dash, revving up before shooting off into the portal… but the portal didn’t close…
Instead,... Amy Rose, held by Classic Metal Sonic, suddenly had snuck out through the portal, landing on the reflective surface of the floating metal race-track.
Classic Metal Sonic looked around, rising from his metallic knees and looked to his captive, a modern Amy Rose.
She was unconscious still, but no longer trapped in electricity. Sonic had been fooled.
Glaring down at his prisoner, it was clear this was Neo Metal Sonic’s plan all along… He would fight Classic Sonic, in a dimension deemed ‘weaker’ by Neo Metal Sonic. Once destroyed, the two would team up to defeat Modern Sonic, and thus, become the only remaining ‘Sonics’ in the universe… and take over the living, organic world…
Classic Metal Sonic flew gently away from the portal… ready to hide and ambush when Sonic returned to this time and dimension…
After a fight with Neo Metal Sonic, Classic Sonic had won, only to discover the ‘friend’ that his ‘Other Him’ had mentioned wasn’t there.
Finding that strange, he used the device on Neo Metal Sonic to enter Modern Sonic’s universe, and fought the surprised Classic Metal Sonic, freeing Amy Rose.
However…
Sonic, upon stumbling through the dimension, got… sidetracked…
Instead of finding Neo Metal Sonic to free Modern Amy Rose, he ended up finding a tied Rosy the Rascal on a track, similar to the one reconstructed back in his dimensional time.
Freeing her, she didn’t identify him immediately as ‘Sonic’, and hid from him, worried he was a mechanical look-a-like that would abduct her again!
Seeing Neo Metal Sonic handiwork with how things ‘should’ be, Sonic concludes that this is all his doing…
“Hmm… Changing the timelines in other dimensions… maybe, he was trying to help out his ‘Little Him’, too?” Sonic looked up towards the side of the side, scratching his chin, “Heh-heh! Not that that bucket of bolts would have a heart to do so!” He fanned his hand about the side of his cheek, to disregard Neo Metal Sonic as being ‘brotherly’ in that sense.
He then got down and lightly crawled on all fours over to a terrified Rosy, who bent her knees and held her hands over her head, shivering in fright…
“Hey… It’s okay. Look over here~” Sonic tried to squat and wave his hands by his face, looking ‘silly and charming’ as best he could, but she wouldn’t budge, just continued to cower.
“Hmm… Have I lost it?” Sonic began to act, looking himself over, and making her peek behind her and sniffle in her fearful tears. “Hmm? Maybe I stink?” He wiggled his long black nose under his armpit, “WHOO!! That might be it!”
She chuckled slightly, but then sniffled again. Clearly, he’d have to put on a ‘real’ performance to get her out of her shell…
Or in this case, spiked back turned towards him.
“Must be my shoes.” He sat down and happily held one of his feet, “Hmm… No, squeaky clean and bright!” He used his elbow to shine it, “Just get a little elbow grease in there…”
She giggled again, and he smiled sweetly.
“Oh? Does the young lady like this color of red?” He held up his foot, before jumping up to walk on his hands, doing a one hand-stand and then backflipping away from her, “Tah-dah!”
She got up and clapped, squealing in delight.
Her little tail profusely wagged and she wiggled her bum a few times, putting her gloved hands up by her mouth in a demure but excitable fashion.
“Heh,” He blushed slightly and put a finger under his nose, rubbing it. “Works every time, eh?” He winked to her, mostly commenting to himself.
“What got you in this mess anyway, little miss lady?” He teased, as she bounded up to him and began to mime her abduction.
He looked as though feigning ignorance to her situation, acting serious as he put a foot out and a hand to his chin, the other holding that hand up as though paying great attention to her story, and looking puzzled.
“Uh-huh, uh-huh… and then what happened?” He smiled as she spun around, eager to share her alarming life experience with him, and then immediately changed his expression back to ‘serious’ again.
He rose the tip of his shoe, narrowed his eyes, pouted his lips… “Hmmm… Seems a bit of a switcheroo happened here, Miss Damsel.” He put a hand to his hip, “I think you were supposed to be saved by a charming hero… W-Well, not that you weren’t. Umm…” He tapped his nose… Thinking…
‘Looks like she hasn’t met Little Me, yet…’ He slowly looked down to peer at Classic Amy Rose, just a Rosy-cheeked Rascal who kept following her blue-blur hero about, and got caught up in one of his adventures again.
But still, the little, harmless stalker didn’t seem to mention anything more than having followed her lifelong hero to this location, and that made him worried…
‘Is… Neo Metal Sonic trying to sandbox this universe? Figure out what alterations could affect his success at beating me through these ‘change’ circumstances?’ He figured that might be ‘deep-diving’ a bit to far into surmising, so he shook it off.
‘Could be a sad happenstance. We’ll fix it right up, won’t we?’ He smiled non-verbally to Rosy.
“Little Miss, I think I need to find a big scary robot.. .with a thing on his arm?” He pointed to it, “Kinda ghostly~ Oh! But don’t be afraid.” He mimed the ‘creepy ghoul’ pose, but then waved his hands out in front of himself to sow no fear in her. “I’ll protect you.” He put a confident thumb to his chest, “So? What do you say?” He bent down again, hands on his knees, “Ready for one more high-speed, thrilling adventure?”
She looked a little hesitant… her finger in her mouth, looking down as though unsure…
‘Hmm, this Amy lacks confidence.’ He concluded, but smiled brightly once more. “Don’t worry. If you have time to worry, run, right?” He quoted, closing his eyes to try and give her some courage.
She looked back to him, her eyes sparkling at the motivation, and nodded, making her two–once shy fists–now looking ready to try!
“That’s the spirit!” He cheered, as she suddenly raced up his body.
“W-Woah, hey now!” He looked around himself to see she had climbed up to his head, and pointed forward.
“Uhh… Hmm, not really how a lady should be carried, but… Eh.” He shrugged, not really gonna tell her what to do.
“Hang on tight then, Little Miss Lady!” He pulled himself back before launching forward. Together, they broke through typical line-ups of Eggman robots he recognized from his past, as well as figured out as he could duck his head forward and launch Classic Amy Rose with her hammer at enemies, and it actually started giving her some bravery.
He spun and she would jump up in the air, letting him spin dash before landing back on his head when he boomeranged back and knelt to catch her below with his noggin’.
Finally finding Neo Metal Sonic, who had scrapped together other Classic Robotnik Badniks, the new frankensteined, colossal giant threaten to destroy this dimension so no ‘Sonic’ could ever be created in any dimension ever again!
Alarmed by that declaration, it sounded like a desperate attempt to not lose…
Rosy held up her hammer, suddenly filled to the brim with confidence, thanks to Sonic’s encouragements in having her help him in combat.
“You sure you’re up for this, Little Miss?” He looked up with his eyes to her situated happily on his head, basically hanging on to his middle quill for support, and having her feet upon his two lower quills in the back.
She nodded to him, eager to please and help out!
‘Aw, this Amy Rose is gonna be a firecracker!’ He smirked, happy to see her coming out of her shell and reminiscent of why he was even here.
“Metal Me!” He called up, bending back to attack and holding his hands in fists, one behind him and the other in front, lowering his stature as Rosy matched the ‘angry justice’ vibe and lowered her head too, her hammer raised behind her, gripping his ear for support. “Where is my friend?”
He didn’t want to tip this little Classic Amy Rose to her other, nor his real purpose for being here.
He didn’t want to ‘affect Little Him’s timeline all too greatly, afterall…
He did kinda just steal his ‘thunder’, you know?
It would be a new low to steal Little Rosy’s heart, too!
“Muhahaha..!” Neo Metal Sonic’s laugh bellowed in the depths of the new creation he had conjured up by fusing with so many robots, who all looked like they wanted to attack Sonic just as much as him. “Come! Find out what I’ve done to her!”
With that, the epic tag-team of the Lovely Little Lady Rosy and the Blurry Bluestreak Badnik Bouncer fought a legendary battle in hopes to prevent a threat that would alter their realities!
Once defeated, Neo Metal Sonic and his torn contraptions, hit off by the combined forces of Classic Amy and Modern Sonic, fell far below the race-track stage and crashed in a fury of fireworks, explosions, and epic failure ‘NOOOOOOoooo…!!!’ cries!
The other robots, scrapped and scattered about, fizzed and sparked from being bashed into.
Breathing hard, Sonic nodded, seeing he was really defeated. “We got him… Great work, Little Lady.” He held up a hand to his head, and she high fived it, laying across his head before drooping over his forehead and almost falling down. “Ah..! Gotcha.” He looked fondly to her, “Proud of you,... Amy.”
In her exhaustion, having his hand now on her back to keep her up on his head, feeling the little pats of approval and ‘good job’ to her, she smiled with a goofy grin during her heavy, worn out breaths.
Racing down to find Neo Metal Sonic’s device, Sonic looked to Rosy. “Here goes.” He shrugged back to her, as she worriedly stepped forward, before back as he placed the device on his shoulder, and flinched while writhing in pain as it latched onto his arm like it did Neo Metal Sonic, making a cyborg-ghostly exoskeleton off the side of his arm, like a Time-Eater’s wing.
Sonic flexed out his hand, realizing he had total control over the scary-looking, dark wispy device.
He smiled over to Rosy, “H-hey, it’s okay now. I think I know where to find my friend.”
He had already talked to Classic Sonic beforehand about ‘finding his friend’, but snapping his fingers, the portal opened and both him and Classic Amy walked up to peer their cute heads together out of it.
Only their eyes and muzzles with their long noses got through, making for a cute picturesque of them blinking adorably out of the portal to look around.
Sonic and her gasped at seeing Classic Sonic trying to struggle away from a Modern Amy Rose, who as affectionately holding him like a puppy in her arms, dangling his small self as she embraced him like a child with a teddybear, adoring him.
“Ah-ha… I owe him big time…” Sonic scratched the back of his head, and then, stepped through the portal.
However, he gasped again when Rosy jumped through the portal, and began to run around exploring.
“Uhh…” He looked out after her, ‘Isn’t she curious about Little Me..?’ He decided to address that later and walk over to Amy, his ‘dark one-wing angel’ look making her freak out as she dropped Classic Sonic and he raced away from her, brushing himself off by frustratedly smushing the sides of his face and flicking his hands hard off his face.
He continued to ‘self-clean’ from the ‘overbearing girlie germs’ while Sonic made sure his dimension’s Amy Rose was okay…
“Never better..! Thanks to you…” She looked to Modern Sonic… then slowly twisted her torso to look under her arm and below her at the angrily little blue hedgehog behind her.
“Hehe.” She chimed, blinking a single ‘thank you’ with a bright open-smile towards him, then looked back at Modern Sonic. “What’s with the emo wing?”
At her gesture, he held out his arm, “Ehh… kinda cool, right? But not my thing.” He teased, and then turned behind him to hear–
“Finally! I’m not the only smallfry of the squad again!”
“Tails!” Sonic greeted, waving to him, “Over here!”
Tails chuckled as he patted Little Rosy’s head, before hurrying over with a fast walk that turned into spinning tails for flight, then landed to look over his wing. “A device like this… hmm… I’d like to study it further… if I may.” He nodded as he looked it over, his hands gently hovering above Sonic’s arm before Sonic nodded his permission.
“After I send this lot home first, Tails. Then, you can be my guest.” He advised, looking to see Knuckles trying to grab Little Rosy, who–much like she did to Sonic–started climbing all over his body to get to his head.
“Hey-o, gotcha-Ah! You little, squirmy-WOAH!” He circled a few times, patted areas of his body that she miraculously had already crawled away from before being caught, and got him to fall down as she landed on his stomach, laughing at his ditzy, swirling eyes from having fallen backwards.
Sonic chuckled, “Alright, it’s time I kept my promise to ya.”
“Promise?” Modern Amy Rose looked at him curiously, as he just grinned to her, holding up a hand as though to say, ‘Let me handle this, sorry, it’ll only take a moment.’
Walking over to Classic Amy, he bent to a knee and used his hand to gesture for her to come closer.
She jumped up on Knuckles’s chest, making him flop forward before she dismounted and raced over to him, then saw him hold up his hand to ‘whisper’ something and extended out her ear.
She looked a little sad, then shook her head, pointing to Sonic, then putting her hands together with hearts all around her.
‘Oh Boy…’ He gave a goofy kinda awkward grin, sweat dropping. “Check your cards again, Little Miss Lady.”
He pointed to her tarot deck, which made her look at him as though confused how he knew she had that.
She pulled them out and offered him to pick cards, when he did so, she reshuffled them and had him pick again.
He laughed, “It’s the same fortune every time… Trust me.” He winked to her, then looked over to his tiny blue Other Self.
Looking gently back to her, he nodded, “He needs you.”
Amy Rose gently inhaled a small and shocked breath of air, holding her hand to her heart as though touched by that statement. “Emm~” She grinned with a blush, finding that really sweet.
Rosy stuck out her lower lip, but then looked over to her ‘former’ hero and sighed.
She nodded to Sonic, then summoned her hammer and tapped it on her shoulder, showing she was A LOT stronger than before!
“Heh,” He raised an eyebrow and tilted his head, smirking to her newfound, snarky confidence. “You think he’ll be the one needing saving next? Well, you better prove you’re strong enough now to take care of it.” He fist-pumped her with an added high-five, and she was off with arms extended out to embrace her old hero love.
Classic Sonic pouted, not sure what was being spoken about, but pulled her gently away, only to be surprised by her strength as she scooped him up over her shoulder, laughing at him struggling.
Sonic sweatdropped, “Easy there, Amy…”
She realized that he called her by name, surprised to hear that, but also saw Modern Amy Rose bend down to tilt her head to Sonic.
“What? Like I can’t handle it?” She laughed cutely, and Classic Amy Rose connected the dots, looking between her and Modern Sonic…
Smiling with lots of rapid blinks at her discovery, she knew her other dimensional future would be just fine!
Exactly… as she would have wanted the cards to predict it, as much.
She was suddenly swept back as Classic Sonic had ‘swimmer’s kicked’ his way to the ground, spun her up into the air, then caught her bridal style.
Finding that highly romantic, she unsummoned her hammer and went right back to being shy, her fists bundled up by her blushing face, and smushing herself deeper into his arms with a nuzzling head towards his chest.
He looked visibly shaken by her actions, but that just made Modern Amy giggle all the more, while Modern Sonic got up from his knelt position and scratched the back of his head, also not sure how to respond to this PDA, especially seeing it as a ‘different POV’ since he was basically looking at a younger version of themselves.
“Yep, still got it.” He winked to his Other self, who winked back, as though knowing entirely what he was doing.
Sonic held up his fingers… and flicked them into a snap.
The Portal shrank somewhat, but with a final wave from Classic Amy Rose, and a goodbye nod from Classic Sonic, the two jumped through the time dimensional portal, and Sonic closed it.
Now that they were all back together, Amy Rose looked to her blue hero. “What did you whisper to her?” She inquired.
Sonic blinked in surprise at her inquiry, before smirking back to her with a raised eyebrow, “Wouldn’t you like to know?” He then turned his head, acting very much like ‘she would’ do if he made a mistake to her…
“Wha!?” Being on the other side was NOT what Amy was used to. “S-So-Sonic!? Wait, what did I do!?” She fumbled as she chased after him, but he just continued to act ‘coy’ like he wasn’t going to tell her…
Looks like two could play the ‘rascal’ game, huh?
A 'Turn-of-the-Tables' if you will ;)b

Shattered Nightmare
I'm not ready for Season 3, so I wrote something for WSaTW to help. I don't know how it will all end, that's why I wanted to take what's happening to ease the tension for me.
It was passed midnight. One of those nights where Sonic stayed with Tails. He was fast asleep on the couch, a book covering his eyes. He often nodded off while reading at night. A light rain was pouring against the window. Not enough for a storm, but enough that Sonic wanted a roof over his head.
His ear twitched. He heard something coming from the other room. At first Sonic ignored it, but soon realized it sounded like groaning. Rubbing his eye, the hedgehog got up and made his way. As he stood in the doorway, he saw Tails curled up in bed. He seemed fine, but when Sonic got closer, he saw the scared look on his friend’s face as he slept, shaking slightly. The little guy was clearing having a nightmare.
“Tails,” Sonic whispered as he gently nudged the fox’s shoulder. “Tails, wake up.”
Tails’ eyes shot open and nearly jumped out of bed. He looked around for a moment before fully taking in his friend. “S-Sonic?”
“Hey there, bud. Sounds like you were having one heck of a dream.”
“Oh, uh sorry,” Tails apologized while wiping his eyes. Sonic could even see some damp patches in his fur from sweating.
“You wanna talk about it?” Tails remained silent, his head hung slightly. He was also avoiding eye contact. “Okay, I won’t force it out of you. I’ll let you get back to sleep. Night, Tails.”
“Sonic, wait!” The hedgehog spun around to see his friend’s outstretched hand in a stop position. “Could you… sleep here tonight?”
Though he paused to blink in confusion, Sonic didn’t miss a beat in making his way over to the bed. Tails scooted over and let Sonic get under the blankets. He tucked the fox in before getting himself settled. Tails didn’t nuzzle right next to Sonic, but he still inched closer.
“It mush have been a doozy,” Sonic spoke. “You haven’t asked me to do this in years.” Neither continued the conversation. They closed their eyes, listening to the sound of the rain outside. Though not even an hour had passed when the silence was broken once again.
“Sonic, we’ll always be friends, right?” There was a nervousness in Tails’ voice that Sonic could not ignore.
“Of course we will. Why would you even ask that?”
“It’s just…” the younger’s voice began to trail off. “…things change, and people can change.”
Sonic rolled over, placing his hand on his friend’s head, ruffling up his fur a bit. “Tails, if you think I would ever do something to you, I wouldn’t—“
“Not you. Me… do you think I would hurt you?”
“What?” The hedgehog sat up in alarm. “Why would you ever think that?!”
Tails clutched the blankets tighter as his ears fell back. “Because that what I dreamt. I betrayed you, and all our friends. Just to get what I wanted! I was attacking you, I hurt you! Something bad was happening to you, like you were disappearing! And I…” The fox kit buried his face in his hands, trying to hide the tears that were falling. “It felt so real… that I could do something so horrible to you…”
While this was all a terrible nightmare to Tails, it was a memory for Sonic. It did happen. Not Tails, but an alternate version of him named Nine. When he had broken the Paradox Prism, one of Sonic biggest regrets. It had all worked out in the end, but it was still painful to think about. Could somehow Nine’s actions and memories be affecting Tails? Sonic could feel his own ears drooping at the thought of it. Being the big brother that he was, Sonic turned Tails to him, carefully wiping away the tears from the fox’s eyes.
“Miles Prower, you listen to me.” That got the Tails’ attention. Sonic only used his real name when he was being very serious. “I know for a fact you would never do any of that. You are too bighearted to be that selfish. The only way I can think of that would make any of that remotely possible is that we never met, and you never had any friends. You have so many people that care about you, so don’t you think that will happen.”
And Sonic was not wrong. Nine didn’t have anyone to stand up for him back then. He became cold and mistrustful of the world. Growing up in an evil city ruled by a quintet of crazy dictators would do that. He wasn’t evil himself, just misguided.
Tails rested his head on Sonic’s shoulder as the hedgehog rubbed the former’s back. “And I probably did something stupid too for it to lead to that.” Again, he wasn’t wrong.
“Tch, you really think that? That it will never happen?”
Sonic leaned his own head on his brother’s. “It’s like you said. Nothing could ever break our friendship.” The two shared a hug. Longer than most would expect.
“Okay, that’s enough of that.” Sonic playfully pushed Tails’ face back into the pillow with his hand. “Back to sleep. And no more scary dreams, mister.”
“Haha. Like I can control what I dream about. Thanks, Sonic.”
“Anything for you, little bro.” All those bad thoughts and memories faded just as the rain began to dissipate. Now the only sounds that could be heard were the wind and the gentle breathing of two friends whose friendship and brotherhood could never vanish.
“I also dreamt Knuckles was like a caveman or something.”
“Heh. Sounds gnarly.”
“What?”
“Good night, Tails.”

auughawiefbuwf i finally have something for wsatw !!
(ignore that it's only a drabble djksndf)
anyway, this is based off a convo with @passionartx, so she get's half of the credit
word count-649
------------------
Tails always knew to expect waking up to Sonic being somewhere in his house.
But this was new.
Usually, the highspeed hedgehog was content with using the couch for his naps.
But it seemed he wanted something a little more comfortable today.
And apparently that something was the fox’s bed, along with using said fox as a blanket/teddy.
Now, Tails isn’t one to deny a cuddle session with his big brother. He welcomes it any chance he gets, really!
But he’s also got a very busy schedule, and he really needs to start working.
It’s already 9am!
Wiggling out of the hero’s arms was a no go. Tails had already tried a few times.
How did Sonic have such a strong grip in his sleep?
Tails supposes he could try waking the hedgehog up, but he really doesn’t want to. His brother needs his sleep, after all.
But he also really needed to get to work.
“Sonic?” He whispered, turning around so he could face the older. He wrestled a hand out to poke the teen’s cheek, hoping he could stir him just enough to let go without fully waking up.
Sonic just grunted and pulled the younger closer, which caused him to huff.
“Sonic, please,” Tails tried a little louder, gently shaking the hedgehog’s shoulder, “I need to get up.”
The fox couldn’t help but roll his eyes when he received another grunt as the other snuggled into him even more.
Who knew Sonic was so clingy in his sleep?
Well, Tails did. The teen’s been like this for a good few years.
The kit groaned, letting his head drop onto his pillow. He glanced around the room, looking for anything that might help him out of this.
He flinched slightly when a sudden drop of something wet fell on his ear, causing it to flick. His brow furrowed, because he’s in his bed. There shouldn’t be anything that can get his ear wet.
Glancing up at the now snoring hedgehog, he quickly figured out what landed on him.
Drool.
“Oh, gross!” No longer caring about letting his brother sleep, Tails pushed against the older’s chest to get out of his arms, “Sonic!”
One of the teen’s ears flicked, but he ultimately stayed asleep. Annoyed, the fox grabbed one of his pillows and shoved it against the other’s face, cutting off his oxygen.
At least it woke the other up.
Sonic shoved the pillow away, blinking tiredly at the younger, “Dude, what–”
“You drooled on me!” Tails hissed, pulling back the pillow and hitting his brother with it, “You’re so gross!”
It took the hedgehog a second or two to register what the fox was talking about, but he laughed when he did, “That’s what you woke me up for?”
“Yes!” The younger looked up at his ear, scrunching his nose, “I was going to be nice and let you sleep, then you went and drooled on me!”
“Oh, you poor baby,” Sonic mocked him with a high voice, earning another hit from the pillow for it, which he blocked with his arm, “do you want me to get you a bottle of milk too?”
“Shut up!” Tails said, frowning, “I have to go wash up now! I don’t have time for this, I’ve got a lot of work today!”
The teen rolled his eyes, albeit with a little fondness, “You need a break from that workshop of yours anyway, bud,” he pointed out, shaking his head.
The kit just kept glaring at him, a pout on his face.
“Alright, well,” Sonic stretched before hopping out of the bed, “I’ll leave you to your sulking, baby bro.” He said with a wink before promptly dashing out of the room, ignoring the yelling from his little brother.
Tails groaned and rolled his eyes, tugging off his gloves as he made his way to the bathroom.
Brothers were so annoying.

Sonic - Project: New Moon
Epilogue - Hauntings and Scars that Run Deep
Summary: Turns out, things aren't as great as Sonic thought they'd be.
Warnings: Blood and violence.
Word Count: 4,261 words.
Sonic felt sick.
It'd been about a month since Nox had attempted to free Dark Gaia and end Mobius as he knew it- and subsequently died from his own hubris. A month since he’d regained that monstrous form he took on during the Shattered World Crisis years ago, in which Eggman tried to do much the same, but in an attempt to take over Mobius instead of destroying it. Though things were peaceful once more, the recent near-apocalypse had left its mark both on him and the world, even if the only one who seemed to notice was himself.
The atmosphere around him had changed, saturated with both Light and Dark Gaia's energies. In the beginning, it was balanced and stable, a comforting embrace. But energy continued to seep out from the world's core, and it had become suffocating. A film coated the air and made it harder to breathe, making Sonic lightheaded during the day and snappy at night.
Worst of all, no one else seems to be affected. Not one other person he's talked to in the past few weeks has said anything that would even imply that they've noticed something was off.
Tails did say he'd seen some unusual energy readings on his Miles Electric some time after the incident, but he’d been feeling better than ever, even suggesting he wanted to go on a solo adventure now that things had settled down again. Sonic wasn't at all opposed, quite the opposite, actually. It wouldn't be the first time his little brother had gone off on his own.
But he couldn't help but worry. Worry about Eggman making a comeback, or some new threat rising up, or something bad happening to his friends, or his own condition getting worse, or all of the above happening at once.
He couldn’t take it anymore. So, instead of wallowing in nauseating anxiety, Sonic went out for a run, letting the winds guide him.
He ran for hours, past grasslands and valleys and cities, until he found himself in the familiar forests of Spirit's Grove, the sun slowly drifting west along the blue sky. Sonic’s stomach churned.
Should be used to it by now, he thought. The sunset was soon approaching, and he found himself dreading the painful transformation that came with it.
Well, “dreading” is a bit of a strong word for what he feels. He's anticipating it. Bracing himself for it. Not quite at the level of dread, but teetering on that edge, maybe.
Sonic shook the mounting restlessness off and continued through the forest, slowing to a walk as he took in the scenery, as he usually does when visiting places he hasn't been to in a while. It's quiet, a slight breeze just barely disturbing the trees around him.
The silence is discomforting, to say the least. The forest is quiet as it is, but never this quiet. The wind is usually stronger, and the skittering of tiny animals and birdsong was infrequent, but never outright absent. And, strangest of all…
It is incredibly cold. For a midsummer evening, at least.
Sonic shivered.
“Rue? Specter? Phantom? Anyone there?” he calls out while walking deeper into the forest. No one responds. “Guess no one’s around today. Weird.”
He wanders until he finds himself before Rue’s cave.
“Hello?” He hesitates, before parting the curtain of vines and leaves on the cave’s entrance. He looks inside, but doesn't dare enter.
It’s empty, yet there were deep claw marks on the stone walls and floor, probably fresh. Rue's sparse belongings were in disarray, the makeshift nest of blankets torn to shreds, the lantern cracked on the floor, and the journal gutted, its pages scattered about in a mess of papers covered in writings he couldn't make out.
“What the…?” he whispered to himself.
Suddenly, he hears a deep, guttural snarl behind him. He snaps in the direction of the sound, and his eyes are met by those of a Nightmare- Rue’s glowing magenta eyes, piercing through the shadows of the forest and staring right into his very soul.
“Rue! Hey, what’s up?” he asks as he takes a step towards them, feigning his usual nonchalant attitude, “You okay? You don’t look so–”
Before he can get any closer, however, Rue pounces, knocking him down and pinning him onto the ground. They bare their teeth at him as he tries to wriggle himself away.
“Hey! Wait a sec! What’s going on?!”
Rue roars in response.
He tries to kick them off, only managing to push them just enough to slip away. His quills bristle as a chill runs down his spine.
The sky grew darker. The sun was setting.
It’s coming.
Pain surged through his body like wildfire as he began to transform, fur turning pitch black, gloves being torn by glowing cyan claws. Green markings formed on his skin and fur and quills, false eyes glowing on his body. He couldn’t breathe, purple smoke filling his lungs, slipping out of his mouth.
This isn’t right… this isn’t… His mind began to fog. His body burned. His blood boiled. Something bubbled within him, desperate to escape.
Rue strikes, trying to slash at Sonic, but he barely, just barely, managed to move aside and dodge their attack. He growls at her and strikes back, fangs bared, grabbing their arm and pulling them off their feet, over him. There's a loud thump and a whine as he slams them onto the ground back-first. He releases their arm as they curl up, trembling, clutching at the bandages that cover their lower back as they begin to slip off.
He takes a step back, watching them. Something breaks through the fog for a moment, a split second of clarity.
Hurting her. You're hurting her–
Rue looks up at Sonic and snarls with the ferocity of a rabid beast. They move to strike again, claws ready to slash at him. On instinct, he strikes back.
He bites at her shoulder. Teeth pierce skin, and green blood spills. Rue jolts.
The taste of metal lingers on Sonic’s tongue as he releases Rue, forcefully pushing her onto the ground. His heart pounds in his chest, his head throbbing. Rue whines, but it's drowned out by the pounding and ringing in his ears.
She looks up at him, clutching her bleeding shoulder, heaving. They whimper, ears pinned to their head and tail between their legs.
Sonic and Rue stare at each other. Time seems to come to a halt. Sonic’s blood runs cold.
“Rue, I…” He feels a lump in his throat. His voice sounds wrong, beastly, almost otherworldly.
It didn’t sound like him.
“I didn’t mean to–”
Rue snarls, interrupting him. She takes a step back as he tries to approach her again. He feels his heart drop to the pit of his stomach.
“I’m so sorry.”
Sonic kneels down onto the grass. He keeps his head low, shifting his gaze from Rue down to his own paws.
He fought her like some kind of animal. Scared her. Hurt her.
He needed to show her he wasn’t a threat anymore.
Eventually, Rue stopped growling at him. He could hear her slowly make her way towards him, limping. It wasn't long before she was right above him, cautiously sniffing him. He trembled, heart still pounding, yet he didn’t move. He didn’t want to scare her more than he already has.
Rue let out a growl, almost like a question, vaguely sounding like his name. “So… nic…?”
He looks up at her. Sharp green eyes meet pink. “Yeah. Sorry for hurting you…” He can feel something in him shift, energy being released. His mind becomes clearer.
She pulls him in for a hug, startling him. She’s shaking, near hyperventilating. He hesitantly returned her embrace as his body changed once more, the false eyes fading and his quills and fur turning back to their usual navy.
Rue felt warm in his arms. Too warm, feverish, almost. He wasn't faring too well, either. The air felt colder than before. Frigid.
He began to rub Rue's back gently, above the now exposed scars. Their fur began to shift in color, just as Sonic’s had, back to dark teal.
Their shoulder continues to bleed. He tries to ignore the taste of blood in his mouth.
“Hey.” His voice sounded normal again. Or- as normal as it can sound in this form, at least. “Let's go to the twins’ place and get you patched up, alright?”
He can feel their claws digging into his skin as they tighten their grip on him, shaking their head.
“He’s following me,” Rue whispered, her voice quivering, on the verge of tears.
“... Who’s following you?” Sonic asked, keeping his voice as steady as he could for her. He looks around, wondering who could possibly be following someone like Rue.
… It can't be Nox, can it? He fell to his death! He couldn't have survived a fall into a pit of lava, right?
Unless…
Sonic feels a chill down his spine. His quills stand on end, bristling.
“Come on. Let's get outta here.” He moves to stand up, grabbing Rue's paw to pull her up with him.
But as he rises, he catches a glimpse of something watching from the corner of his vision. A figure standing in the shadows. Unreal. Its many-eyed gaze lingers on Sonic.
Observing. Studying. Scrutinizing.
Nope. No. Nuh-huh. Not dealing with that right now, he thinks as he quickly helps Rue up and drags them behind him, making his way towards the twin's home and not looking back.
-
It wasn't long before the two beasts were at Specter and Phantom's doorstep. The air around their home felt so much hotter than back where Rue's cave was, so much more like a summer evening. Warm yellow light streamed out of the windows- and if the lights are on, someone surely had to be home.
Sonic knocked on the wooden door. Bang bang bang. He probably knocked a lot harder than he intended, but he wasn't exactly concerned when Rue was possibly being haunted by the person that made their life a living hell. And bleeding. That too.
“Coming!” He heard Specter's voice behind the door.
The door swings open, and Specter greets them with a smile. “Hi, Sonic– oh.”
“You guys have a first aid kit?” Sonic asked as he hurriedly pulled Rue inside.
“Wait wait wait- what happened? Why are you guys covered in blood? Oh my goodness, what happened to Rue's shoulder?!” Specter began to panic at the sight of her injury.
Sonic grimaced. That’s your fault, Sonic, you jackass. “Yeah, uh, long story. First aid kit, you got one?” he repeated himself.
“Right! Yes! Um…” she began to look around frantically, only to almost bump into Phantom, who had already gotten the kit and was handing it to her.
“Here,” he said nervously, refusing to look anywhere near Rue's injury.
Specter took the kit and led Rue to sit at the table, setting the kit down and beginning to work on cleaning the wound. “Alright, now what happened?”
“I don't know…” Rue shook, staring off into nothing, “I don't know…”
“Something made her panic,” Sonic explained, “She’s bein’ haunted, I think.”
Phantom stared at him, at his mouth, still stained in blood. “And you bit her?”
I didn't mean to. Sonic bit his tongue.
Rue winced as gauze was placed over their wound. “I attacked him first. It's fine.”
“Okay, yeah, that’s not super important right now. Who's haunting you, Rue? Do you know?” Specter asked.
“Nox. It was him. It had to be.” They gripped their arm, digging their claws into their own skin. “He whispered to me. Taunting me.”
Specter and Phantom share an odd look. Did they not believe her?
“I saw it too, y'know,” Sonic interjected, “They're not making this up. He's back, and he was watching us.”
There was silence. The air felt tense. Cold.
Specter carefully wrapped Rue's wound in bandages. “There… let's change the ones over your scars, too–”
Something shifts, the air grew even colder. Frigid. The lights inside the cottage flicker.
Phantom's ear twitched, the bell on his earring jingling. He summons his scythe. “He's here.”
Everything went dark. In the middle of the room, there it stood, a hazy figure, a faded memory of Nox the Spider. Eight eyes shone against the darkness, red and yellow, like those of the ghosts from Sand Ocean, and his face contorted into a sinister smile.
“Hello, friends,” Nox’s voice reverberated in Sonic’s head, “Miss me?”
Rue hurried to stand, stepping away from the ghost in a panic, hackles raised and breathing heavily. Specter drew out her own scythe, and the twins, as well as Sonic, stood between her and Nox, protecting her.
“An unkind reception, as always. Not like I should expect any better from the likes of you.”
“What do you want from me?” Purple smoke slipped from Rue’s mouth as she spoke.
Sonic could see Nox’s expression shift slightly, almost as if he enjoyed tormenting them. As if that was any surprise. He scowled. “Why couldn’t you just stay dead, asshole?”
“I have unfinished business,” he stated “I thought it was common knowledge that ghosts are tied to this world by unfulfilled wishes.”
Specter’s tail flicked. “Well, it’s not like you can destroy the world or anything like this, so why not just give up already?”
Nox chuckled, driving Rue to panic further. Sonic could feel heat begin to emanate from her again as more smoke poured out of their mouth. “Oh, that’s not what I’m here for, silly. I’m well aware of my current limitations.”
All of a sudden, he sinks into the ground, reappearing right in front of Rue and Sonic, staring right into Rue’s eyes.
“I’m here to say my final goodbyes to you, Rubí. You didn’t let me have my final words the last time we met!”
“... What?” Sonic, Rue, and the twins said in unison.
“Oh, you all heard me.” Nox drifted towards her, moving past Sonic- no, through him- sending unpleasant chills down his entire body. Rue stepped back, trying to get away from Nox, until she was eventually backed against the wall.
Before Nox could get any closer to her and speak, however, Phantom leaps from behind Sonic, ready to slash at the ghost with his scythe. “Leave her alone!” he yells as he swings the blade…
… Only to be stopped by in his tracks by spectral webs shooting out of the ground at his feet, sticking to the weapon and pulling it out of his hands.
“Awful rude of you to interrupt me, child. This is between me and her.”
“Oh, you prick–” Specter’s own scythe was ripped out of her hands by webs, much in the same way Phantom’s was, just before she could attack.
“Now, where was I? Ah, yes… my final message to you, my dear.”
Rue trembled, claws digging into the wall they were backed against. “What more could you possibly want to say to me, Nox?”
“Just wanted to remind you of something you seemed to have forgotten in the month since my… untimely demise.”
The ghost leaned in closer.
“You won’t be rid of me. No matter how much time passes. Even after those two reaper ‘friends’ of yours inevitably exorcize me. I know I’ll always be inside that ugly little head of yours, in your worst memories. The one thing left of the past you buried under your thirst for revenge.”
Rue’s paws curled into shaking fists as they grit their teeth at him, growling. “You’re sick.”
“I’m well aware.”
Two glowing blades slice at Nox’s ghostly body, the twins having managed to break their weapons free, cutting him into pieces. Multicolor ectoplasm splatters, and yet, as his form begins to fizzle out, he smiles once more.
“I take comfort in knowing I’ve left my mark. You will never heal, Rubí. I’ll simply return in your nightmares to torment you again, and again… until the day you take your last breath.”
And with his final words spoken, Nox dissipated. The lights of the cottage flickered back on, and the air grew warm once more.
Rue fell to their knees, wrapping their arms around themself, scratching at their own skin and choking back tears. The twins hurried to their side, hugging them tight as they began to sob into their shoulders, all  while Sonic stood there, hesitating to act.
Was it really his place to comfort her, after hurting her like he did? Would he be overstepping? He doesn’t want to make any of this worse, she already had to deal with Nox of all people today. He would want to bother her more than he already has.
Sonic and Rue’s eyes meet, and his thoughts all come to a halt. She stands, slowly walking up to him while wiping her tears. She was silent. Sonic bristled, unsure of how to react, before being swept off his feet and into her arms.
“I’m sorry,” they whispered into his ears. “You shouldn’t have been a part of this.”
“N-no, no, I’m the one who should be apologizing,” Sonic stammered, “I couldn’t help you. Actually, I think me bein’ here made things worse. I’m sorry.”
Rue shook their head slightly. He felt their embrace tighten around him.
“Don’t. Please.”
Sonic wasn’t too keen on turning this into a game of apology tennis, so he just stopped talking, returning Rue’s embrace, and he remained in their arms for as long as they needed. Minutes passed in silence as the twins came and joined the embrace, time melding into what felt like an eternity.
-
Some time later, Sonic and the twins had led Rue to the living room, where she sat down on a bean bag chair and sank into it, clearly exhausted. Specter and Phantom made him go wash the now dry blood off his snout in the sink before they sat on the other bean bag chair, leaving Sonic no choice but to sit on the floor next to Rue.
“Uh, Sonic? We have another chair right here,” Phantom said, pointing at the rolling chair at the desk under his loft bed.
“Nah, I’m fine here,” Sonic replied, content with sitting on the fuzzy blue rug on the floor. He then turns to look up at Rue. “You okay?”
There it was, Rue’s hollow, distant face, staring at nothing. They didn’t respond.
Specter stared at her, a strange glint in her cyan eye. “I think she needs some space. Maybe we should take her back home.”
Sonic held Rue’s hand. “I don't think that's a good idea. Besides, her cave is… a mess. She can’t go back to that.”
Suddenly, the TV hanging on the wall right in front of them started playing music. Upbeat tunes from some kind of game- one featuring a round pink thing running across platforms and sucking up enemies like a vacuum. Sonic quickly realized it was the same creature in one of the posters beside Phantom’s loft bed, right under a Chao in Space poster and another of some kind of white bug-like creature holding a sword.
Phantom held the controller, making the pink thing move along the stage and past obstacles. He was focused, eyes fixed on the screen.
Now everyone’s eyes were on Phantom. Even Rue seemed to have been drawn out from their stupor.
… He wasn’t trying to be insensitive, was he?
Specter watched him with an incredulous expression. “Dude, what the hell?”
“Hey, Rue needs a distraction,” Phantom answered bluntly, “... And I was kinda already playing this before you guys came in and all of that happened, so…”
“DUDE.”
“It’s what I would want if I just went through something horribly traumatic!”
Sonic thought for a moment. “Hey, y’know what? That’s not a terrible idea.”
Sonic watched as Rue’s eyes drifted from Phantom to the television screen. Phantom had just completed a level, it seemed, and the pink thing was doing a cute little dance with celebratory music in the background.
“What is that? It looks weird,” Rue deadpanned while pointing at the screen.
Phantom's tail flicked in frustration. “His name is Kirby and you will not disrespect him in this household!”
Sonic couldn’t help but snicker at his reaction. Though, to be fair to Rue, Sonic thought practically the same way about this “Kirby” character. It looked very silly, but oddly adorable. It reminded him of a Chao, almost. A very pink and round Chao.
“Yo, Phantom, can I try?” Sonic asked. His interest was piqued, to say the least.
“Ah, hold on, I’ve got more Wiimotes somewhere around here…” Phantom said as he got up to search through his drawers for them. He then pulled out three more controllers, all the same kind, but of different colors.
“Are we seriously doing this?” Specter asked as she was being handed a purple controller.
Phantom gave a blue one to Sonic. “Yes, yes we are,” he said, before offering a green one to Rue, “You wanna play too?”
Rue eyed the controller with uncertainty. “I haven’t touched a videogame in… years. I wouldn’t be any good.”
“That’s okay. I’ll teach you.” Phantom simply placed the controller in their paw.
That’s when Phantom sat back down, and the game continued. He quickly explained the controls and how to select a character to Sonic and Rue.
Specter, having seemingly played this game before, didn’t need any explanation and just got to playing the game with the others. By now, she’d already accepted that everyone was moving on from what had happened not even an hour prior, and that this is what they were going to do.
Sonic had selected a funny-looking orange creature with a blue bandana and a spear, which he was promptly informed was named Bandana Waddle Dee.
Rue had chosen a bat-like character with a cool metal mask and spiked sword named Meta Knight.
Specter was quick to point out that it was “no fair” that Rue took “her” character, but settled down once she realized she could instead play as the blue penguin with a hammer, who, according to Phantom, had “the best ability in the game by default.” Sonic wasn’t sure what that meant or why it mattered, he was just there for the ride.
And a fun ride it was. They played late into the night, laughing and yelling, having fun yet getting frustrated with the game all at once. But exhaustion eventually caught up with them, and the game was eventually shut off after Specter had fallen asleep on the bean bag chair with the controller in her hands. Phantom had set his own controller down and promptly fell asleep with her, leaving Sonic and Rue effectively alone.
The cottage was once again dark and quiet, but the darkness was no longer discomforting. In fact, it was quite peaceful, Sonic thought.
Rue didn’t seem all that comforted by the silence and the dark, though, having grabbed onto Sonic’s paw and squeezing it tight. He squeezed theirs back.
“I’m right here, if you need to talk about anything,” Sonic assured, keeping his voice down so as to not wake the sleeping twins.
“I don’t… I don’t want to talk.” Rue’s voice wavered a bit. “I just want to forget.”
“... Yeah, I get it.”
There was a moment of quiet between them.
“You should try to get some sleep, Rue.”
“I can’t.”
“I know you’re still scared,” Sonic stood back up, still holding onto Rue’s paw, “But staying up all night isn’t gonna make anything better. It’s just gonna make you sick.”
Still, Rue shook their head. “I can’t, I… I don’t want to. He’ll come back, I know it.”
Nox had already been exorcized, there was no way he could return. But Rue didn’t mean that literally, did she?
Sonic let out a sigh. “Is there anything I can do to help you sleep?”
Rue looked at him, deep in thought, before suddenly pulling him down onto the bean bag they rested on, then wrapping their arms around him. Sonic could hear their heart beating in their chest.
“Stay here… Please…” Rue whispered, “Don't leave me…”
Sonic carefully wrapped his own arms around her. “Wasn’t planning on it,” he assured, gently rubbing their back, careful not to touch their scars, “I’ll be right here. If you have a nightmare, if Nox comes back to hurt you, I’ll be here, okay?”
Rue seemed to relax in his arms, closing their eyes and letting out a small huff. They finally felt safe. “Thank you.”
And so, Rue eventually fell asleep, soon followed by Sonic.
But before he drifted off, Sonic’s mind wandered.
It was over, for real this time. Nox was gone for good, but Rue would still need a lot of time to heal, and he wasn’t sure he could help her adequately. He could bring her some comfort, sure, but she needed more than that, and, if he was being completely honest with himself, sometimes his presence hurt her more than it helped. He can’t leave now, though, no matter how much he thinks he shouldn’t be here with her. He already promised he’d stay for her, and that wasn't a promise he was about to break.
However, Sonic knew if he wanted to help her, he needed to keep himself in check. He needed to get better, too.
Eventually, Sonic feels his consciousness slip, and he elects to cast those thoughts away for his future self to deal with, falling into deep sleep in Rue’s arms.

Sonic Characters When They're Sick
Hi, I'm sick - which is fun. But this gives me a good excuse to make yet another post. How Sonic characters act when they or their friends are sick, let's go hoes:
Sonic: He has two moods. When he just has mild sniffles? The WHOLE world knows about it;. He whines with the worst case of man flu imaginable and acts like he's about to die - much to the annoyance of everyone around him.
However, when he has a sickness you should worry about? No, you won't know about it. He'll keep trucking along to the best of his ability until he faints. As for when his friends are sick? He's more likely to laugh than anything else before running to get some medication.
Tails: He's smart so he actually knows like - how to take care of himself. He has a tendency to downplay his symptoms though but thankfully Sonic can spot when Tails is going through a rougher patch than he's letting on. The only time Tails will neglect looking after himself is when he's currently working on a big project and he doesn't want to stop - regardless of his sickness. Sleepless nights end up only making things worse and you get the point. Sonic or Amy has to drag him away from his work as a result.
Knuckles: For a guy who's lived in the wilderness all his life and has never stepped foot in a hospital - he's only gotten sick once in his life, guess he built up his immunity. He's got all the natural herbal remedies ready to go for his friends and basically goes into full-blown crunchy mom mode when he hears they're struggling. You have medicine in your hand? Nope, nope. Put that down. He's got the flowers, herbs, salts, and essential oils right here - you'll be just fine.
Amy: Again, as a functioning member of society - she knows how to take care of herself. She balances it out - she has both medicine and natural remedies to treat herself and others. She is doting on others when they're sick, especially Tails. Although she doesn't have patience for Sonic's bullshit. She WILLL show up to your house with dozens of baked goods because sugar = happiness, simple equation.
Rouge: Drama Queen, period. Homegirl is dramatic even when it's just a common cold. This has had an undesirable effect on her teammates that we will discuss later. She lays on the couch under a blanket, tub of ice cream in hand and watch whatever TV show she's been meaning to binge. Being ill is an excuse to be chill - that's her motto. She might remember to take actual medicine.
Shadow: Can't get sick. But when someone around him is sick, his germaphobe mode fucking activates. He will be cleaning the same countertop for ten minutes straight, very vigurously. Why? Because Rouge ended up accidentally teaching him that all form of Mobian sickness is the end of the world and in his mind - anyone could die from a cold if untreated. He does not want it spreading, and if he could get Rouge to wear a hazmat suit - he would. He's the one reminding everyone else to take their fucking meds.
Omega: He doesn't really understand the concept of sickness all that much but when he sees Rouge in pain - his instict is to go straight to the source. He will interrogate to find out who she caught it from and will proceed to beat up that person if they fail to stop him. Although let's be frank - he's mainly just feigning his ignorance at this point so he can have an excuse to get violent.
Blaze: Again, knows how to take medicine and keep herself hygenic. Often doted on by castle staff allthough she doesn't really like it when it happens. She will keep insisting she can carry out her royal duties instead of taking rests - which can have poor effects. But again, castle staff are there to stop her from going too far. Her friends also encourage her to rest because they know of this habit of hers. If her friends are sick - she'll make sure they have their meds, a place to rest, and a warm cup of tea before leaving them so she can go about her day.
Silver: Surprisingly the most competent in dealing with sickness alongside Amy. Again, a surprisingly strong immune system despite how much ash he's probably inhaled over the years. Maybe chaos energy exoposure fixed it - who knows? But anyways - he rests, he takes his medicine, but if he hears his friends are in a fight he will show up to it regardless of how he feels. When his friends are sick - he's supportive, always checking in to offer company and he's texting cute cat GIFs to cheer people up.
Tangle: She's got you, okay? She'll make you a nice drink - hot chocolate - with cream and sprinkles - she's on it, she'll give you snacks, she will find her old video game consoles and comics to keep you entertained, she will get you dozens of blankets - everything you need! Everything... except... medicine. She has a tendency to forget the important part.
Whisper: If she doesn't know you too well, she'll pass you the paracetamol with the longest piece of apparatus she can find so she doesn't have to get too close to you. If she is close to you however, (i.e. Tangle) - she is fretting, girl is waiting on hands and knees, she is ready to give you EVERYTHING you need - you just gotta say the word.

Wholesome Sonic & Tails Wednesday Cold Snap 1.6K
Sonic and Tails in the earliest of early days together.
(unedited and unapologetic yall will get what you get, i started writing this at 11:20PM on Wednesday and finished at 12:16AM on. Thursday. shhh it's still Wednesday in California so its fine.)
Sonic wasn’t going to accuse the little guy of following him, exactly…
But he has shown up to each zone Sonic’s been visiting. And whenever Sonic camps for the night, the kid – Tails – is always a hundred or so yards away. Tails doesn’t think Sonic notices, but he does. Sonic just does his best not to be mean about it. The island is free now, and part of that freedom means that kids can sleep wherever they want. Even if there’s a perfectly good village a couple miles south.
Sonic can’t blame the kid for not going back to his initial village on West Side Island, but they’re all the way on the other side of the island now. Surely the kid can try his luck with someone else?
Sonic will leave the kid to it; he’s not about to decide Tails’s fate. And he doesn’t mind acting as an impromptu bodyguard for now. He just hopes the kid gets where he needs to go. Sonic’s not much for congratulating parents for doing the bare minimum – and he’s known plenty of kids who got on fine without them. But he doesn’t like the idea of a four year old out here all alone, either.
And – well. He’s not going to leave him to his own devices either. Sonic just wants to make sure the kid’s not out of water, or anything. He seemed too shy to approach the river that Sonic refilled his own canteen in. And even though Sonic’s not responsible for this kid, just keeping an eye on him til Tails gets wherever he’s going… Sonic would feel a little bit bad if the kid neglected his needs just because he was too shy of getting caught.
Which means Sonic cares enough to check, just this once.
So when the kid falls asleep, Sonic sneaks over. He’s not much for stealth, but in his experience, kids sleep like rocks, so he’s really got nothing to worry about.
When Sonic slows to a stop, he tests it by leaning over the kid and straining his ears to make sure his breathing is deep and even like it’s supposed to be – and when the kid doesn’t stir, he breathes a sigh of relief. Then, he gets to work.
Sonic is quick to refill his canteen, and even leaves a couple fruits in the little blue backpack the kid brought along. Strangely, Sonic’s not really sure what the kid’s bringing with him; he hasn’t seen Tails open it, not even once. Which means it’s probably some of those papers that the little towns value so highly, maybe some toys. Hopefully some toys. Sonic was content playing with flickies and the like, but he’s self-aware enough to know most normal kids need something to keep them busy.
A cold breeze blows in from the north, then, and Sonic’s quills rattle with a few shivers. Yeah – it’s a burrow-underground sort of night, then. The wind would keep him up all night otherwise, let alone the cold. Better to burrow where it’s a cozier temperature year-round.
However… Sonic rubs his chin, looking down at the sleeping yellow fox. If Sonic’s got to burrow, that means things don’t look so good for the kid. As if on cue, the kid shivers, practically curled into a ball himself to retain as much body heat as possible. And sure, a blanket burrito’s better than nothing, and Tails is a fox, so he’s got a decent pelt – but Sonic doesn’t like the look of the kid’s shivers this early into the night.
Sonic frowns and looks around the world around them.
Then, with a heavy sigh, he knows what he’s got to do.
Sonic does his best to be quiet, he really does – but he’s pretty sure it’s ultimately the unearthed dirt that wakes Tails. Sonic’s half done burrowing into the dirt – a mix of spin-dashing and more careful excavation with his gloves – when he peeks out to notice a yellow-and-white face looking in at him.
“Mr. Sonic?”
Sonic can’t help the nose wrinkle. He’s way too young for that kind of name.
“Ah – sorry! I didn’t mean to forget your name already, is it something else?” Tails asks, which is extremely unhelpful, since it’s the worst type of yes or no question. No good answer to it. So Sonic chooses an alternate route, and ignores him to keep digging a makeshift burrow instead.
Despite Tails occasionally interjecting with a, “M- Mr. Sonic? What are you doing?”, Sonic pays him no mind. He’s still got a second burrow to make tonight, and he’s gotta make this one big enough to fit both Tails and his backpack without it caving in.
But once he’s done, he’s pretty sure it’ll hold.
Proud of his handiwork, Sonic hops out of the hole, and stands over it with a confident grin and hands on his hips. Now that’s the way to do it.
Tails, though, doesn’t quite seem to understand.
Sleepily, the kid blinks at him – and Sonic figures he must be confused, somehow, despite having watched Sonic sleep in holes like these at least once the last few nights.
Sonic decides to help him out by tossing the kid’s backpack (gently – in Sonic’s defense, it was gently) into the hole. Tails gives him a wide-eyed stare, then takes a few uncertain steps back. That’s when Sonic knows he’s got to ramp up his skills.
He gestures broadly with his hands – as big of a, “for you!” gesture as he can. Tails meekly points at himself, and Sonic nods. Just to make sure the kid’s getting it, Sonic mimes falling asleep by laying his head on folded hands and making truly obnoxious-sounding snoring noises.
The kid giggles, and Sonic grins.
“So you… made that hole for me?” Tails asks, still sounding so uncertain despite clearly understanding. “Why?”
Sonic mimes shivering. Tails completely misunderstands. Instead, he starts to take off the blanket that he’s now using as a shawl, and tries to give it to Sonic. Sonic’s eye almost starts twitching. The kid’s nice, he’ll grant him that – but no toddler on the planet ought to be that ready to give up their last defense against the cold.
So instead, Sonic tsks, shaking his finger before curling the blanket tight as it can go around Tails – if he’s careful, he can even get it around a second-and-a-half time, which is good. Means the kid will be extra insulated.
It does look a little silly, though, the kid just standing there as a blanket burrito with red-and-white shoes sticking out underneat. Sonic can’t help the chuckle that comes out.
Tails starts wriggling his arms to try and balance though, and Sonic realizes his folly. Tails won’t be able to balance and walk his way into the burrow.
So with a heavy heart, Sonic realizes what he has to do.
He bundles up the little guy, close as he can, and then tucks him into the burrow himself.
“Mr Sonic?” Tails practically squeaks – but then he’s in the burrow, snug as can be, and finally Tails gets it. Which is good, since Sonic’s not sure he can maneuver him a second time. The kid’s pretty light, but Sonic’s not exactly the strongest guy around. The kid’s almost as big as he is, despite probably being less than half Sonic’s age. If Tails was any more than four, Sonic would eat his boots. But four or not, at least Tails finally understands what Sonic’s been getting at, and manages a small, “You – you really made this for me? To stay warm?”
Sonic, realizing the kid can’t see him so well now that it’s dark, and he’s looking up from such a small hole, squats down next to him. He gives him a sharp nod – and a thumbs up for good measure.
Tails looks up at him, starry-eyed. “Woah…”
With that, a good deed done for the day, Sonic claps the dirt off his hands. He gives a two-fingered salute – and makes his way off to his own campsite. Only a stone’s throw from the kid’s – and in perfect view of Sonic’s. Though Sonic would hope the kid won’t get up and waste Sonic’s hard work, he’s got a feeling the kid would rather be cold than alone.
So he doesn’t mind, really – just this once. Sonic can deal with some kid watching him sleep from a couple yards away, even if he’s not strictly the babysitting type. But it’s bound to be temporary, and… hell. Sonic would feel a little guilty if the kid got sick after coming all this way, that’s all. As long as the kid doesn’t freeze, and Sonic’s got time to make his own burrow to tuck in for the night, there’s no problem.
Sonic finishes his own burrow a lot faster, since it’s just him.
But, inexplicably, when he curls up for the night… Sonic can’t help but crack an eye open, one last time, to make sure the kid’s still asleep and not shivering. Funny, that. Sonic’s done all he can for the kid already – he’s not sure why he’s so invested.
It’ll pass, he decides. Soon, the kid will find a nice village with some even nicer villagers, and he’ll go back to being a normal kid, albeit one who can fly with his tails. Hopefully this time, it’ll be a life without bullies.
That’s all there is to it. Sonic’s not looking to be a babysitter.
(And yet –
Two weeks later – when another winter chill blows in, the kid is still tagging along – Sonic just makes a burrow big enough for two. And when it turns out Tails is a living furnace… Well, what was Sonic supposed to do, other than let the kid curl up with him?)

Here is a Sonic Movie fic I wrote, hope you guys like it. Here’s the link of AO3 version.
Late Night Endearment
It’s time for bed, little rascals!” Tom announced as he picked up the very sleepy fox kit from where he had snuggled against a sleeping Maddie, and winked at Knuckles who quietly obliged, approaching the stairs while dragging the grumpy hedgehog. He slowly ascended to the attic, careful to not disturb Tails in his arms.
“C’mon, just because Tails’ sleepy doesn’t mean we should sleep too! We are older!” Sonic complained, Knuckles groaned and tugged him a bit harder then necessary without realizing, and Tom shot him a warning gaze before turning to Sonic.
“You zoned out and asked us to replay the last five minutes of the movie three times bud. That sounds sleepy to me.”
“I was… thinking of something! “
“Hedgehog, thinking? Unheard of.”
Knuckles quipped, and earned a chuckle from Tom, which made his violet eyes sparkle. He was getting the hang of having the fun, and he was happy his… tribe joined in whenever he did. Sonic glared, but the very obvious grin he tried to hide betrayed his fake annoyance. He didn’t mind, though, because Knuckles finally relaxing around them enough to joke around was a rewarding sight to see. Knuckles gently let go of his arm once they reached the attic, and Tom placed Tails to his plane-themed bed, which made the fox open his glazed eyes to look around, likely questioning when had he gotten up here. Sonic flashed a smile to Tails, Knuckles nodded, and Tails replied with a content smile before letting his body crash on the bed. Tom grinned and approached Sonic first, who pulled his blanket over himself and laid down, no longer grumpy about having to go to bed. Tom ruffled his quills, and noticed Tails’ and Knuckles’ gazes on them. He turned to Tails, petting his head affectionately, and the fox leaned into his touch, while trying to force his heavy eyes to open
“G’night dad.” The kit muttered before dozing off, and Tom’s eyes immediately filled with tears, and he heard Sonic gasp. Once Tom turned his back, hedgehog quickly hit the pillow, and clenched his eyes shut. Tom’s eyes caught Knuckles’, and he averted his gaze, Tom figured maybe he was a bit shy about getting tucked in, but still petted the top of echidna’s head.
“Good night, big guy.” He said, and Knuckles smiled in response, and lied to the side. He had a good look on the boys before leaving. Tails was asleep once again, Knuckles had a a serious expression on his face, that child never relaxed, but his eyes were shut. Sonic was clearly forcing his eyes to stay shut and had a lopsided smile on his face which made Tom seriously doubt he was asleep, but he couldn’t fault him even if he tried to. Tails had called him dad for the first time ever, and Tom was sure Sonic was aware of that as well. Couple of days ago Tails had started calling Sonic and Knuckles his brothers, and Sonic hadn’t shut up about it, using every second Tails wasn’t with him to gush over him and declare that he was going to be the best big brother ever. Knuckles’ reaction was a bit toned down, but he was in the best mood anyone has seen him for days now. Tom closed the door of the attic and made his way down with the biggest grin on his face. Maddie was standing on the end of the stairs, a knowing smile on her face.
“What did they do this time?” Maddie asked affectionately, looking forward to hear the endearing things her sons would be up to after Tom tucked them in. She swore every night, Tom would come down with a smile, or tears in his eyes, because appearently sleepiness made her boys only cuter. Too bad she usually dosed off before Tom took the nightly duty. Tom embraced her tightly, and she rubbed his back
“Tails called me dad, Maddie!” He announced as quietly as he could, Maddie broke their hug to face him, her hands placed on his shoulders.
“For real?” She asked before her husband started tearing up, and nodding with a tight-lipped smile. She took his hand and led him to the couch. They sat, facing each other. Tom sighed, likely to collect his thoughts, his happiness was overwhelming his mind.
“I just… can’t believe I have three sons now.” He whispered, heart fluttering upon hearing the worlds fill the silence between them. Maddie nodded, giving his hand a gentle squeeze.
“We went from family of three to six in less than a year. It really is unbelievable.” She said, and Tom laid back on the couch.
“When Tails and Knux came, I thought of them as Sonic’s friends first. I even told him so.”
“Yeah, but we didn’t really know they were here to stay, did we?”
“Heh, guess we didn’t. A part of me is sad that they had to, because they were all alone, like Sonic was.”
“I get you. I’d love to hear they had loving and present families back home, but we’re doing everything in our power to give them that. “
“Exactly, and we’re doing a damn good job!” He nearly shouted, and Maddie shushed him, giggling as he clasped his hand on his face.
“Well, a good job besides staying quiet.”
“ Sonic’s been rubbing off on you. You can’t contain your excitement sometimes.”
“About Sonic…”
“He is probably awake, isn’t he?”
“Poor guy did his best trying to calm himself down, but I don’t think he’d be able to sleep much.”
“Like father like son, huh?” Maddie said, playfully punching Tom’s arm. He flashed that boyish grin she fell in love with, and she sometimes noticed Sonic smiled the same sometimes. She guessed Sonic watched them more carefully than they noticed, before and after they met him.
“Can’t fault the guy. Tails is an incredible child, and we’re lucky to have him.” Tom answered, and Maddie hummed in response.
“I can’t wait for the day he calls me mom. Knux too.”
“They will, eventually. We just have to keep walking towards them, and allow them to meet us halfway. “ Tom said, then a yawn escaped Maddie.
“Yeah, eventually.” She murmured, and stood up, tugging her husband behind to their room. They needed sleep to take on another day of parenting super-powered extracelestial children.
