Dowd Crime Family Headcanons

I’m so obsessed with the idea of Tim being from a family full of superheroes and the dichotomy of that with the idea that Bernard is from a family full of supervillians and also i think its just hilarious, so

• Bernard is descended from the O’Dowd Crime Family in Boston - essentially the Irish Mob

• His dad specializes in art theft. If you’ve ever heard of the robbery of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum... yeah. 

• Despite the fact that the perpetrators of that robbery were never technically caught, it was a pretty shoddy job, done early on in Mr. Dowd’s (im sorry he literally doesn’t have a name i dont know what else to call him) career when he was still trying to make his bones. Soon after, to avoid the heat, he fled south to Gotham where he met the future Mrs. Dowd!

• The future Mrs. Dowd (she doesn’t have a NAME) works in art restoration at the Gotham Museum of Modern Art (and on the side is an extremely skilled in forgery shhhhhh)

• Bernard has a ton of aunts and uncles and cousins and stuff on his dad’s side of the family, but they all live in Massachusetts, so he doesn’t see them often.

• The relative he sees the most is his auntie Nina! Yes, Nina Dowd the archeologist i.e. The Mighty Endowed, who uses the abilities granted to her via magical artifacts for various nefarious schemes.

• Pretty early on in his life, Bernard gets the sense that his parents aren’t exactly... good people. From a young age he’s trained in areas of morally questionable expertise (safe cracking, martial arts, weapons proficiency, etc.) but his heart really isn’t in it. Bernard just wants to be a regular kid with parents who do something he can be proud of. It’s why he becomes so obsessed with Batman and Robin as a kid. Those are people who help others! They use their skills to do good! They’re heroes! 

• As he gets older, Bernard becomes more cynical when it comes to powerful people. The idea of Batman being controlled by a shadow government isn’t weird to him because,,,,, that’s literally what his family does. The O’Dowd Crime Family has fingers in political pies all over the Northeastern U.S. It makes sense to him that Batman would pick new Robins out of orphanages when the old ones die because,,,, the crime syndicate up north indoctrinates young orphans into their gang too.

• Despite his family’s expectations, Bernard never takes an interest in the ‘family business’

• He is such a Just Some Guy

• One of his relatives introducing him and his cousins like “Yeah, these are my nieces and nephews, Switchblade, Big Jack, Reaper, Baby Teeth, Lil Eoin, Shredder, and,,,,, Bernard.”

• Pretty soon in Tim and Bernard’s relationship, Bernard’s criminal contacts come to light bc obviously all of the bats would be doing background checks and,,,,

Dick: do,,,, do you guys think he knows?

Duke: i mean,,, he Has to. Right?

Damian: Only Drake would be so idiotic as to consort with someone who no doubt plans to destroy our family.

Stephanie: okay, so who’s gonna tell him.

• Eventually Dick is the one who brings it up and Tim is like “??? Yeah, obviously I knew about his family. It’s no biggie tho. He’s Different <3″

Dick: Tim I am begging you to date literally Anyone other than the son of world renowned art thieves with connections to the irish mob

Tim: no <3

• Bruce minds his business bc he has never dated anyone who isn’t a criminal

• Cass gives Bernard her seal of approval and that’s pretty much enough for everyone

• The bats try to give bernard the shovel talk and he’s like “lol okay. i’ve been receiving death threats since before i was born, but this is cute.”

• It works out because Bernard is the only person with a family crazy enough to rival Tim’s

• Tim loves his boyfriend and never ceases to be amazed at how good and kind and strong he’s become despite all of the bad influences in his life. Bernard gives him hope.

Wars and Wild as knights in Lu

They have issues.

I have a lot of thoughts on Wild and Wars and their relationship (Order of this post is talking about saluting, Wild and Wars' different perspectives, memory issues, and fire) Rant time.

No saluting!!

So Wild took a formal- almost/awkwardly saluting pose when Wars confronted him in 'Entrance pt.2'

It's similar to the first time Wild addressed Wars as 'captain'. His left hand is up from where a salute should be, and his overall posture is awkward, with his shoulders and right hand raised, but it's clear he's trying to do a salute in the presence of a fellow knight.

In the second example his hand is behind his head, but his posture is very straight and his right arm stiff- he's again attempting a formal saluting position. Which is still awkward

It is less clear but his changes in posture clued me in. He goes from like a deer in the headlights to visibly sweating to straight backed and looking up at Wars- looking at the changes in his body language

Side note but I literally love how Jojo draws the champions tunic so much-

We can't see the action of Wild's body language in a comic, just the positions he went to. But he visibly leaned away from Wars before switching to a straight backed saluting-like posture. He's clearly freaked out, hence Twilight's face: >:(

I think that Wild taking somewhat military poses around Wars is important to their relationship issues because it comes from his struggle with memory and identity

Wars

I adore Wars. He is baby and I love him. I think it is also important to acknowledge that he would not speak to any of the others this way.

And the scarf man cmon it's so pretty they are so cute-

Why is Wars talking to Wild like this? He's called him out and reprimanded him multiple times in front of the others. Wild has taken it well but tbh if it was Legend I think he would be on fire.

To some extent I think he is in captain mode. I think that he has trouble seeing Wild as not a knight. Wars gives Wild respect as a knight who sacrificed for his kingdom, but now it seems he's taking it away as a knight who's not doing well enough since he 'disregarded the plan'

At least I think that's the outside (or Wild's) view of it. But Wars internally really cares about Wild and he saw him run up to a giant and lose it. Different ways of showing concern perhaps?

Who wouldn't want to keep Wild from getting more scars?

I just. Don't doubt for a second Wars really cares about Wild- even if the way he's acting still isn't cool. He has no right to treat him like a soldier any more than the rest of the chain, and right now I think Wild is acting as the more mature person.

Wild

I adore Wild. He is baby and I love him. I think it is also important to acknowledge that although he is clearly making efforts after Twilight's injury, Wild has ignored Wars for the majority of Lu, by not speaking to him much, and not thanking or acknowledging Wars when he directly helped him. (Small example being walking with Hyrule not Wars when injured and not directly responding to Wars)

Wars cares about and respects Wild, but it seems Wild wants nothing to do with him, and he's been cold towards Wars for the majority of Lu. To Wild, Wars reminds him of his perceived failure. Which is valid feelings, but still not fair. And I think that ask is talking about these two.

The thing I love about this is each of them are right and wrong in some ways, leading to the tension between them. So fully blaming either of them is not logical

The rest of the chain is just vibing. Except twilight who's mad and wants them to just grow up, but. Heros of courage not wisdom @uniquevoidflowers ;)

And that ask- '''Are any of the Links ever jealous of another Link for adventures that were less difficult/life threatening?'' ''When you hear Wild say he 'hates' someone you'll have your answer.''' somewhat leads to my next point-

Wild's identity and memory issues exacerbate all of this

In Entrance, Twilight is being stressed and defensive, that's ok. What concerns me most is that Twilight has talked with Wild through stuff like this in his rough moments

Wild has tried to be formal several times- he is not very good at it

Wild isn't and can't be 'him'- the same 'perfect' (<actually has crippling anxiety) knight he was before, and Twilight knows this. And I agree with him a bit, I think, that Wars is making things worse in Wild's mind by being that perfect soldier, and seemingly holding Wild to a standard he isn't

Wild's attempts at saluting is symbolic of that- Wars makes him feel like a failure trying to be the person he should be. But Wild shouldn't be anyone but himself.

Anyways. Fire.

Wars and Wild have issues, and I want them to work through all their relationship drama so they can reach their PEAK dynamic, which is obviously this

I mean like. We need these two to be friends

Anyways. Wild is in this constant state of identity crisis, and being around Wars has not been beneficial- neither of them is or has been showing the other the respect they deserve. Not as knights, but as people and brothers. They need a get along shirt.

resident evil (university au headcanons)

a/n: this is purely based on the beginning of my last year :( feeling bittersweet

chris redfield: a third year sports medicine/kinesiology student. if you're looking for someone who almost always has a water bottle full of creatine in his bag, chris is your guy. he's never the type to dress up, especially because he insists on 8am lectures to 'increase his productivity', so he's usually in sweatpants and under armour compression shirts. he joined the rock climbing club at claire's insistence of getting involved around school, but is unfortunately still getting the hang of it. it's hard to lift all that bodyweight, so the majority of the time he just hangs there. has very little social life. he'll go to a party, drink a single beer, then leave. turns women down because it would mess with his schedule. he's paying a lot of money to be there, and save for a bit of attitude towards his professors, he takes his studies seriously. diet-wise, this man preps like a mfer. protein peanut butter shake at 7.30 am no exceptions, within a 20min time limit of his workout. the dorm fridge has an ungodly amount of boiled eggs. toxic trait: does that white man hand raise when he has a question, and usually only thinks about what he's going to say after his hand goes up. jill valentine:

sociology major, criminology minor. has her schedule perfectly planned out so nothing is before 10am. she can and will ignore chris' pleas to meet her on campus beforehand, usually preferring to go for a coffee before a lecture. is never seen without some source of caffeine in her hand. jill isn't a huge fan of sociological theories, instead choosing to focus on the statistics aspect of it.

her dorm room is an absolute nightmare. there is not a single space on her floor that is not covered in clothes, but has no shame in bringing people over despite this. she'll just kind of awkwardly shuffle them away with her foot to make a pathway.

isn't part of any clubs, mostly because she can't be fucked for that kind of socialization. people always hit on her during class anyways, so it's not like she's hurting for company. she usually hangs out with chris or claire on campus, goading chris into doing something with her or letting claire drag her along into studying. toxic trait: has a windowsill full of empty monster energy drinks. leon kennedy:

a math major, criminology minor. has absolutely handed in multiple sheets of homework with tear stains in the corners. for how nonchalant he seems to be on the outside, he really does take his studies seriously, and always shoots for a perfect gpa. he's primarily seen haunting the third floor library, always looking like he's in a perpetual state of agony.

despite all the silent attention he gets from people during lectures, he does not entertain it whatsoever. the man is there to learn. he has one class with jill where they sit in complete silence together save for a couple of witty jokes at the professor (or other students) expense. the professor both loves and hates him. he's a frequent visitor of office hours, but his assignment is always printed and crushed in his fist. he's had a few short-term girlfriends in university, but nothing long-term. he firmly believes that he has rizz, but he does not. most people just let it slide because he has that attractive weird aura around him. toxic trait: unironically shushes people during a lecture. claire redfield: engineering major, communication minor. another person who takes her studies fairly seriously. the fortunate thing about claire is that she doesn't particularly have to try, the good grades just descend on her from the heavens. it makes chris furious. however like jill, she is not a fan of mornings and is usually seen frowning angrily at the board.

has a friend with a house off campus to store her bike so she can fix it up on her days off, using her engineering notes of course. she's part of a few clubs, but isn't fond of being part of leadership or anything. claire goes purely for the vibes.

goes on a couple strings of dates with guys, but always refuses to go out with people from her classes. she's seen it crash and burn so many times that she's not doing herself. will, however, recommend other people to her brother. toxic trait: pulls up to campus at 9am with the loudest motorcycle engine known to man, and always slams her helmet down on her desk when she sits down.

the way the two men stare at each other in the way they have so many times before, in those moments when Joker stayed or prioritized their fight over her. the way he knew Joker loved the thrill of it all and thought it was funny, thought there was No way Batman would leave him and that this game had to end as according to the rules. And that Batman would do so, he would follow the rules and save him. The way he immediately assumed Batman would choose him, choose his life and choose to stay and disarm the bomb.

And how Batman didn't do that. How Batman walked away from him, leaving him to die or escape or whatever, because He was choosing Harley and her safety and prioritizing her life over him.

The way he stared him in the eyes before choosing the woman Joker had always left to die over him. The way that it was always Him, it was never a question if he would choose Batman over her, but when faced with that type of scenario, Joker is the one that gets left behind to die.

The way she literally woke up in the hospital instead of them having a scene just outside after he removed it. because she didn't intend to live in one of the two options. the way the bomb probably did go off to some capacity because you don't just end up in the hospital knocked out for a week.

Him saying that he's glad she's okay, after everything they've been through, this war and Everything else. and the way he didn't brush off her concern

"I'm glad you're okay."

This whole colorism thing with Natlan and Hoyoverse has got me feeling just…so sad. Like as a white person I do NOT get to have an opinion on the entire ordeal, but it makes me sad that so many people are being misrepresented and that something I love is the cause of so much hurt right now. It feels like such a big issue without a clear method of action on my end - I’ve done the surveys, I’ve signed the petitions, but I’m also not the demographic affected and therefore not qualified enough to talk about it either. I hope Hoyo listens to the outrage, because the game isn’t fun unless we’re all getting to play it and get the same level of enjoyment out of it and having fun together, but it also feels so hopeless that I don’t know what to think right now !!!
