Random but I was rambling about my oc earlier and wanted to get these thoughts outta my head.
I play a lot of ttrpgs. Like a lot. I tend to make my player character(s) a femme4butch lesbian bc part of me didn't fully see what femmes might see in a butch like me bc on some level, I used to think I was unworthy of love and the women I like wouldn't like me.
I also started doing it bc we had a toxic player (lowkey homo+transphobic but also implied to be an egg... long story that I don't wanna get into tbh) and I KNEW he'd be an ass if I made a character too loudly and obviously a lesbian and ofc he wouldn't be able to See a femme like I could.
But I wanted to be loud and obvious so I set my nose to the grindstone on femme presentation and feelings and attraction. I've been reading so much stuff on here from so many amazing femmes- stuff they've written and resources written by others that they've shared. Just when I thought I couldn't love femmes more. You prove me wrong.
I feel like being here and reading your thoughts and experiences and rp'ing f4b characters has given me a deeper and more profound understanding of femmes and I understand myself more too. I get it now, yanno? I don't see myself as gross or weird or unlovable anymore. I fun and sexy and cool!! We all are! Femmes n butches have such cool and unique presentation and experiences to gender and I feel like we can Always See each other. Like I know a Femme, capital F kinda Femme from a feminine person. Yanno? I don't really have a point to this post, I just love and appreciate femmes. You're genuine pillars in this community and I'd do anything for you.
Thanks for showing me how to love both me and you :3

I put an alarm at 3 am for the AAA finale but I'm actually expecting to be thoroughly disappointed yuri-wise. just burying my expectations next to the gays juuust in case you never know
#and i was right..... it wasnt very interesting#all the mystery i mistook for subtelty of the first episode turned out to be the same old trite soup of cliches#NO actually you know what it was it was the character acting#guess copying the 'toxic lesbians' vibe can only take you so far unless you put your whole marvelussy into it#YES YOU CAN SAY IT. LOSING CHESS TO A DOG.#i guess the show is fine if you care about wiccan and the side chracters are nicely done for what little time they had#tbf i was expecting way more jen screentime i would have loved that

Any fiction recommendations? I’ve repeatedly read Locked Tomb, natch. I’d love something similarly brainwork inducing but maybe a touch lighter. Also not fantasy or sci fi…I need something to listen to while I do a ton of chores, and those can be hard (for me) because the unfamiliar proper nouns get confusing. :/
anon!! I'm terrible at reccing anything based on “if you liked TLT” because TLT is like five different genres in a trench coat, but I TRIED (⭐) Here are some brainworm-y recs that aren't sff — where by brainworm-y I mean that they stayed with me for a while after I finished them, but aren't overly confusing. (most of them are books, but available on audio)
Podcasts: a tumblr pal recced me the deviser based on me liking the eldritch elements of tlt; it's short and horror-y, and I really enjoyed it.
I haven't checked out the new TMA yet but I see many TLT peeps who are enjoying it (or S1 of the original The Magnus Archives could be a good entry point if you haven't ever listened to it)
TV: Unfortunately I hardly ever watch live action stuff BUT if you haven't seen either IWTV (the series not the film) or Yellowjackets, I do rec those! There's a lot of overlap between these fans and TLT fandom on my dash. His Dark Materials also goes hard and you might enjoy it (dysfunctional characters! worldbuilding! religious weirdness!) but it has more sff elements than other stuff I've recced. Oddball out of nowhere but The Great is a fun show if you enjoy the meme moments of TLT + people being gleefully horrible + having feelings despite your best intentions
Animanga: Utena (!!!!!) also Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, which occupies a very similar space to TLT in my brain
Books!
✧ I went through my “women unhinged” goodreads shelf and found some books that are avaliable in audio format, and might appeal. These are wildly varied in scope and ngl the criterion was just “at least one person (besides myself) who enjoyed tlt also this book” and the similarities stop there. It's all vibes baby! Still, I tried
my heart is a chainsaw by stephen graham jones (horror, slasher), bunny by mona awad (horror, wildly unhinged), the witching hour by anne rice (horror, gothic)
matrix by lauren groff (historical, lesbian nuns), anything by sarah waters (historical fiction + lesbians), rebecca by daphne du maurier (historical, gothic)
the plot by jean hanff korelitz (litfic, thriller), sadie by courtney summers (thriller, coming of age). anything by gillian flynn (thrillers with terrible women).
✧ I really enjoy Tana French thrillers for the strong sense of place, great prose, and the complete emotional turmoil of her character-centric narratives. If anything sounds up your alley, I enjoyed the witch's elm + dublin murder squad series. They're murder mystery procedural but the messy characters really elevate the novels. Available in audiobook also
✧ American Elsewhere, technically scifi but set in New Mexico. Somehow, cosmic horrors who have taken over a quaint little town and worse! They are enforcing HETERONORMATIVITY upon it! They also have tentacles. The main character rocks
✧ Sundial by Catriona Ward: insane, gripping psychological horror. A mother and her unsettling daughter take a trip to the isolate desert ranch where the main chracter grew up. Surrounded by unsettling science experiments
✧ A Touch of Jen by Beth Morgan: when the parasocial relationship is so strong, it accidentally summons a hellmonster from another dimension
✧ SFF adjacent, sorry, but set in the real world (historical, tho) — Cuckoo Song by Frances Hardinge, a middle grade novel with fairytale elements that gave me more brainworms than any kids book ought to, mostly because I LOVED the main character. She occupies a very similar place in my brain as Gideon does. This is actually the only book on the list that I'm not sure is available in audio format, but if you get a chance and it's up your alley, I'd check it out
I hope there's at least ONE thing you'll like in here! lmk (also. lmk if you don't have access to a way to borrow audiobooks but would like to)

side order is here!!! its real!!! yippee
what do you think of it so far?
ok so im just gonna spit out all my side order thoughts so far
SPOILERS FOR SIDE ORDER AHEAD!!!!!!
EDIT: I ACTUALLY FINISHED THE GAME WOOO (just one run tho lol) im gonna write my thoughts under the previous stuff
OK SO. i think im a little..? dissapointed..? abt sider order?? like im kinda conflicted abt the lore, also i suck BALLS at the game
the thing is i have done 5 runs so far AND COULDNT GET A SINGLE WIN. the most i can do is up to floor 20.... im literally so bad at this game I ONCE DIED 2 TIMES IN AN EASY LEVEL. im newgen guys.
maybe im not fit for rougelike games but like... idk. i feel like me and the fandom as a whole expected so much more from side order. i feel like if the game is gonna make you replay the same stuff over and over again it should atleast have a SOUL CRUSHING LITERARY MASTERPIECE TYPE OF LORE like OE and Alterna
AND CAN WE TALK ABOUT HOW DIRTY THEY DID FOUR???? literally called them an irrelavent loser and then sweeped them aside... THEY DONT EVEN HAVE A PALETTE ICON???? theyre not even a secret boss smh.... agent 4 had so much potential I WILL NEVER FORGIVE NINTENDO FOR THIS. and like sure the parallel canon level kind of includes four but that thing is literally an npc??? like imagine what they couldve done with the story if they had included four in it:
when four is left out from the squidbeak splatoon they try to prove themselves by siding with marina with her project. it makes perfect sense. marina and four are both scared of being seperated by their loved ones. but four gets consumed by their anger and jealousy and goes full order mode LIKE DO YOU GUYS SEE MY VISION!!!! i will be forever mad that we didnt get this.
also why is murch out of all the chracters have a pallete??? why didnt they put in captain 3 or something????? sheldon i kinda understand since hes also kinda a part of the squidbeak splatoon BUT MURCH??? get the fuck out!!!
negative stuff aside tho. i love pearl and marina so much. THIS IS THE PEARLINA GAME GUYS!!!!! pearl literally mentions that marina and her sleep in the SAME BED???? marina is so autistic. my little autism creature. SHE MAKES DINO ARMS IN THE ENDING SCENE AUGHHHHHGHHH MY HEARTTT i love marina so much AND PEARL. SUCH A SILLY GOOBER. acht is so precious too... BUT I CNAT BELIEVE THAT THEY MADE THEM WHITE*??? ACHT IS NOT WHITE NINTENDO. anyways i love eight and her little found family full of lesbians. they are all lesbians your honor. we are raising lesbians in this house.
so yeah. i hope i can finish the run atleast ONCE. but like. idk i havent finished the game but side order jsut makes me feel. sad... and lonely...?? unlike octo expension where you could see more and more people using the metros and the chatrooms between marina and pearl are just AUUGGHHH OE IS A GAME. ABOUT CONNECTIONS OK. it makes me feel warm and happy and even though eight became traumatized i like to think that she healed and in the process met so many important people in her life.
in side order i dont see anything in eight*??? is she traumatized??? is she vibing??? is she happy to help??? I LITERALLY CANT TELL. side order makes me feel so cold and empty like do you guys understand what i mean. and its probably becasue it doesnt even take place in the real world. and the thing is. i understand that side order is supposed to be everything that OE couldnt be. i understand that. both games have their own quirks BUT. i just cant seem to make myself love it unlike any other story mode in splatoon...... im really trying to be not biased here but yeah. these are my opinions for side order
AFTER GAME THOUGHTS
HELLO. so yes i somehow managed to win the game. and honestly. the final boss was pretty fun and everyone was so cute at the end omg... but i still think that side order is a bit underdevloped.... i dont even know if ill try to %100 is cuz playing it makes me SO STRESSFUL im glad i get to finish a run BUT i will definetly not be touching side order atleast for a while.... but despite i had plenty of stuff i didnt like in side order the ending managed to make me forget all that haha

the current bane of my existence is learning more and more about different shows getting cancelled or chracters being killed off/being compeltely changed because they were meant to be queer in the initial drafts of them being created OR when shows are cancelled after having queer representation
(idk how many of these are completely accurate but Apple and Darling being canaonly queer and then the show gets cancelled after a special that didn't include either of them? and Apple had like one minute in the sun getting to talk about how her destiny wasn't the same anymore? sus bro
also apparently Spencer Reid and Emily Prentiss from Criminal Minds were both supposed to be fruity [Reid being bi and Prentiss being a lesbian] but then the show runners said that wasn't allowed or something?? we were robbed of bi Reid that's all I'm going to say [I'm salty becuse I'm bi and I love Spencer Reid]
and how Rise Of The Pink Ladies is allegedly getting cancelled after we got such great queer representation and even specially devoted storylines to it? that's a crime in my book idk about you
it's just upsetting whether it's a coincidence or not man I just want to see happy gays be canon and not suddenly disappear)
#ever after high#eah#criminal minds#apple white#darling charming#spencer reid#emily prentiss#rise of the pink ladies#pls god let the queer storylines continue even if they aren't the reason behind cancellations

just watched kung fu panda 4 today, it had amazing animation, character and background design, wonderful soundtrack and voice acting....and really weak writing, i cant believe that they brought all those villains back and never let shen have even one dialogue!! also so many plot holes! what exactly was the requirement for the chameleon to steal kung fu, and why the fuck did she take all those cannon fodders kung fu and not oogways? and whatever dialogue tai lung got was very underwhelming and did not contribute to any chracters development, the only thing they did right was that they gave po's dads really good scenes, and i liked how zhen (the fox) and po's companionship grew, but god the reason for po to find a prodigy felt so forced, they shouldve let him come to the conclusion that he needed a successor, it shouldnt have been shifu telling him!! the whole point of shifus character is that he realizes that he isnt the person who is going to decide the dragon warrior, he is just there to guide them, his hubris leads him to believe so many times that he gets a say at who is the dragon warrior (tai lung, tigress, po) but he grows and realizes that he doesnt get to decide whether someone is worthy (tai lung and tigress) or unworthy (again tai lung amd po)
Still loved the movie tho but this time us lord shen lesbians lost and the tai lung twinks won, but what does a victory mean when it takes all the ambition out of your character..

VTM Rambles: the Lesbian Cinematic Universe
so i run a chronicle set in new orleans and it's part of what my girlfriend and i call the lesbian cinemtic universe which also includes their berlin by night chronicle that i play in. we call it such because i'm sure you can imagine there are so many lesbian characters. and like, i love it because our games are so queer friendly as they're run by trans lesbians and played by other sapphics. all of us are also experienced ttrpg players or storytellers in some other way too so it's very common someone will have someone else crying or freaking out because of the scene they're playing,
I also think the queerness and our experience with storytelling allows us to better explore the themes of vampire, which to me are what does it mean to be human and what does it mean to be good. We all have characters, PCs or SPCs alike that re struggling with the darkness of the kindred and human world, in fact I think some way all of them are. i love being able to explore what that means for these people and how they react and cope with the pain of their lives. As creators in these games, we've taken a very human approach to creating these chracters as world of darkness seems to believe that once you're embraced you lose all goodness. it also seems to me they believe tiers of humanity are fixed and unuanced when that is simply not the case so i love playing with what each tier of humanity might mean for each character.
as a storyteller, and a player i interpret the beast as more a figurative manifestation of whatever magic that comes with kindredhood and the blood combined with a person's shadow self and subconscious. i'm personally not a fan of the idea that the beast is an actual entity now living in a kindred' head because of the embrace that sucks the good from you. i think the beast forces the kindred to grapple with the darkest parts of themselves that were already there so the fight for goodness or humanity is internal and intrinsic. to me, this has created such an interesting conflict and even fear in certain characters who want to be kind and humane but are scared to lose that due to age or the world etc.
in these two games, we also have some really interesting themes going through. in berlin, i'd say we're creating a theme of healing generational wounds and in nola i think our theme is becoming learning to hold on to the love and kindness in your life, because it will save you in more ways than one. as a creator whether that be on the storyteller or player side, i'm taking these ideas and running with them. for me, a throughline theme helps tie a story together and helps write the story as it devlops even in an rpg.
additionally, i've found that vtm is a great system to explore heavier topics than you more easily could in dnd or something similar. the central questions of the game lends itself to that. for example, in nola i have a plot that has to do with the second inquistion in the cia and how the prince of the camarilla is currently being trafficked as a part of a deal to hold of the cia which was made knowing one day she'd break. i also think the system is a good way to explore power dynamics in society and tradition. even though our political systems are very different in reality a lot of the messiness and the constructs that create those systems are present in the construction of the camarilla, anarchs, and sabbat- to me this is just another interesting way to explore morality in a game like this.
i am a neuroscientist and enjoy tweaking the poorly written mechanics relating kindred anatomy and physiology. i could make a whole post dedicated to what i've messed with in that regard because it's been a lot. i've altered scarring, disease/immune states, the appearance and visibility of disability, metabolism, and fertility to name a few. most importantly from that list is disability and disease. in both games several characters are autistic or adhd or both. there are vampires who use mobility aids, who are amputees, the nola prince and her wife have hiv, one of my pcs has hEDS and the other has lupus. world of darkness erases disability entirely when talking about the embrace and to me, that's wrong. disability isn't awful or heinous and shouldn't be erased in a low (or high for that matter) fantasy game because it's a part of life for so many people.
lastly in this rant s/o to the people who create with me in the lesbian cinematic unverse @rj-thursday @yelenaslightchangeofplan and andi (who's tumblr i don't know) i love yall and i'm so happy to play these games with you... undercover todd forever

There are two kinds of people in this world. The ones who want katya goncharov (chracter from a meme from three months ago) to win the poll and the ones who want vriska (one of the most important characters from homestuck, who has been a lesbian icon of tumblr history ever since 2011) to win

Yesterday I was in a building with not a lot of connection so one of my partners had to grab images of the chracters I was telling them about and it was more fun that way actually. He saw Heathcliff and sent images calling him a butch lesbian then went "WAIT. NO. THIS ONES A BUTCH LESBIAN." and I Knew it was Meursault.

Week 12
When I watched this film, it was after I had heard the lecture from class. If I didn't know the context or history behind it, I do not think I would have been able to really connect the dots. Like many in class, I was really confused on the life Cheryl was living if it was supposedly the main focus of the film was to be a documentary. I also didn't understand why Tamara didn't like Cheryl's new girlfriend Diana. However, after watching it, it all made sense. Tamara saw how Diana treated Cheryl. To Diana, Cheryl was planted to be a "trophy" partner. Especially when we see that Diana's friend brushed off Cherly when they ran into each other grabbing groceries. I also think it's apparent when Diana says she dated a bunch of black people before, and has had black boyfriends. I think Tamara notices it a lot when Cherly loves telling people how she was born in Jamica to "throw them off." With the history attached to it, you can find so many connections. The fact that Cheryl and Diana's relationship is supposed to be reflective of the woman Cheryl is researching throughout the film. Diana and Cheryl are never directly stated that they are a couple but often seen as "companions." Cheryl often says they are dating but never says my girlfriend. It connects with Fae Richards, as she was also dating a white woman, a famous director that she had worked with. While Fae's relationship with Dorthy Azner (the white woman) helped her get onto the screen because she accepted the "mammy" figure role through her, it's parallel is Cheryl and Diana's relationship, in which Diana kind of halts Cheryl's quest to finding more information on the Watermelon Woman. Once the pieces were all together, it made sense as to the ending. While we feel like we barely got to see all the information of the Watermelon Woman, the reasons for it's scarcity of information is due to the deeper meaning and history behind it. I think that's why June was so angry at Cheryl when asking about Fae and Dorthy. Cheryl had grown into the habit of asking about Fae in regards to Dorthy, as if she was an extension of Dorthy. June wanted to be able to talk about Fae and her hardship in the industry, without having to include Dorthy in it.
With the overall lack of black female sexuality ever since, Evelynn Hammonds comments on the topic. Hammonds states that theories often lack the connection between gays/lesbians and race. Due to that lack of connection, we see a lot of black queer hisotry lost. Hence why the ending of Watermelon Woman is the way that it is. Cheryl created her own idea of what the Watermelon Woman would be, because the reality is a lot of these black actors who were queer, were never accounted for in history. Hammods comments make us realize that if there are black characters in shows, the are just placed their with no interior or substance. We see this with Fae's chracter, only limited to the "mammy figure." We see often black queerness in history and just black history in general is erased in film and by White people. Cheryl puts a lot of emphasis on it when she goes to C.L.I.T; she is trying to find more records of Fae but isn't allowed to record any of it because a white woman stops her every time (shocker). We also see it when Cheryl meets Dorthy's sister along with Diana. Dorthy's sister becomes angry at Cheryl's confrontation on the subject of Dorthy being queer and dating Fae. It's even worse when Diana caters towards Dorthy's sister and not Cheryl. It further showcases the push away of queerness and especially black queerness in film and history (especially from white people). Even when Cheryl interviews the Professor at the university and completely is desensitized when Cheryl uncovers the truth about the Watermelon woman. Not only is she in disbelief of the history, she further tries to limit the possibilities of other things than whiteness in the media. She tries to connect it with the watermelon woman of her lifetime, her coming from an italian family that ate watermelon in the summer often. It showcases the disconnect and the ignorance. While whites can claim something and keep it a certian name because of their own positive experience of it, it erases the reality of how dehumanizing the history behind the experience is for minorities. Hammond puts a lot of emphasis on how black queerness can be visible without the need of "whiteness." We see the director Cheryl Dunye showcase this throughout the film. Whenever Cheryl (the main character) is seen trying to look up Fae/ the Watermelon Woman, it is often accompanied by the mention of Dorthy Azner. Even when Cheryl was the library, she didn't find anything regarding Fae or Watermelon Woman until she mentioned Dorthy. Cheryl Dunye truly makes the point when June gets upset at Cheryl for mentioning Dorthy when gaining information about Fae. June realized that Fae was a person regardless if she had a connection with Dorthy. June wanted to remind Cheryl that black history and black queerness can be in place and visible without whiteness involved. Limiting Fae as only a connection to Dorthy, just perpetuates the idea that blac actors during the 1950s and beyond should only be limited to roles given to them by white people. As usual when looking at films like these, we always have to look at the perspective of putting a woman behind the camera. We can see that Cheryl puts her persepctive on her life as a black woman and as a black, queer woman in film especially. The major indicator is already given with the main characters name being Cheryl. It gives us as the audience a look into her narrative and how is girlhood defined in her perspective.
