While born Lesane Parish Crooks, at age one he was renamed Tupac Amaru Shakur. He was named after Túpac Amaru II, a descendant of the last Incan ruler, who was executed in Peru in 1781 after his revolt against Spanish rule. Shakur's mother Afeni Shakur explained, "I wanted him to have the name of revolutionary, indigenous people in the world. I wanted him to know he was part of a world culture and not just from a neighborhood." Tupac's surname came from Lumumba Shakur, a Sunni Muslim, whom his mother married in November 1968. Their marriage fell apart when it was discovered that Lumumba was not Tupac's biological father

Tupac Amaru Shakur (born Lesane Parish Crooks, June 16, 1971 – September 13, 1996) known as 2Pac and briefly Makaveli, was a rapper. He is considered one of the most influential and successful rappers of all time. He is among the best-selling music artists, having sold more than 75 million records worldwide. Much of his music has been noted for addressing contemporary social issues that plagued inner cities, and he is considered a symbol of activism against inequality.
He was born in Manhattan but relocated to the Bay Area. He moved to Los Angeles to further pursue his music career. By the time he released his debut album 2Pacalypse Now, he had become a central figure in West Coast Hip Hop, introducing social issues in the genre at a time when gangsta rap was dominant in the mainstream. He achieved further critical and commercial success with his follow-up albums Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z...and the critically acclaimed Me Against the World, which has been considered his magnum opus.
He was inducted into the Hip-Hop Hall of Fame. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. Rolling Stone named him in its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. On June 7, 2023, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He gained considerable success as an actor, with his starring roles in Juice, Poetic Justice, Gridlock’d, and Gang Related.
He is credited as an important figure in hip-hop culture, and his prominence in pop culture, in general, has been noted. Dotdash, formerly About.com, while ranked fifth among the greatest rappers.
In 1997, UC Berkeley offered a course led by a student titled “History 98: Poetry and History of Tupac Shakur”. In April 2003, Harvard University co-sponsored the symposium “All Eyez on Me: Tupac Shakur and the Search for the Modern Folk Hero”. The papers presented cover his ranging influence from entertainment to sociology. English scholar Mark Anthony Neal assessed his death as leaving a “leadership void amongst hip-hop artists”, as this “walking contradiction” helps, Neal explained, “make being an intellectual accessible to ordinary people.”#africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

Only God Can Judge Me By A
Tupac Shakur was born as Lesane Parish Crooks but his mother changed his name to Tupac Amaru Shakur after a Peruvian revolutionary: Túpac Amaru ll. Born on June 16, 1971 in East Harlem, New York, he was a rapper who sold more than 75 million records worldwide. One of his songs I became really fond of is “Only God can Judge Me” in which he says: “Is it a crime, to fight, for what's mine?” This lyric is a big part of the song for me because I feel that every day somebody is fighting for something that's theirs like Freedom, Love, Family or any materialistic thing. Everybody thought he was dangerous because of how he portrayed himself but only the real people or fans per say knew that he was a beautiful soul inside and out. But his biggest battle was with himself and the controversy with Death Row Records Manager Suge Knight. His skill in doing music made him a spokesperson not just for his own generation but for ones who continue to face the same struggle for equality. Sadly, his life ended in 1996.
Tupac was raised by his mother, Afeni Shakur, because he had very little contact with his father, Billy Garland. Both of his parents were active Black Panther Party members in New York around the late 1960s to early 1970s. A month before Tupac’s birth, his mother was acquitted with over 150 charges as part of the Panther 21 criminal trial. Tupac had only one sibling he actually grew up with but she’s was a half sister from his mother and his step father. Her name is Sakyiwa Shakur but Mutulu, Sakyiwa’ father, had 4 other younger children younger I believe. Mutulu was given 60 years behind bars for a RICO conspiracy of “armed lender theft, and lender robbery killings.”
All in All, Tupac was a master storyteller. In his songs, it wasn't like him talking through a very detailed story but you could imagine or picture what he was saying in your mind... you could feel like you were there with him seeing what he was seeing at that moment in time.

Tupac Amaru Shakur (born Lesane Parish Crooks; June 16, 1971 – September 13, 1996), also known by his stage names 2Pac, Makaveli, or just Pac, was one of the most controversial and prolific rappers in the past 25 years. Tupac’s talents went beyond the scope of rap music; he also had a successful acting career. Tupac not only rapped about thug life but about life on the streets and social issues. The way he crafted the lyrics set him apart from other rappers. He always spoke his mind at any time. His work has a timeless feel with songwriting about what he saw and thought about what was happening around him. Tupac was more than the thug persona seen in the public eye. He was a thoughtful and cultured man who respected women, family, and friends. Tupac was always known for his infamous and long-time beef with another legendary rapper Biggie Smalls. His name is usually on the top of every “ Greatest Rapper” list. I knew a guy who went to the same creative arts school as Tupac, and he said, “Tupac was a smart, quiet kid who was writing raps and poetry in his journal.” Tupac was a great rapper/ actor; he gave believable and genuine performances. He plays a significant role in the hip-hop culture and is missed by fans and peers.
