you all would’ve loved the rendition i saw yesterday.

gavroche and grantaire spent the whole show goofing around.

when eponine fell gavroche tried to run to her side but grantaire stopped him. he held him as she died and once she passed gavroche turned and buried his face in grantaire’s clothes.

after drink with me enjolras tried to comfort grantaire but he pushed him away. instead it was gavroche, who went to his side and pulled him away from the wall. gavroche eventually fell asleep with his head on grantaire’s shoulder.

when gavroche was shot at the top of the barricade, enjolras was holding the front of his shirt. he caught the boys body in his arms as he fell then slowly turned around and handed him off to grantaire. as the fighting raged on, grantaire stood center stage, holding the boy, staring at him. he eventually made his way off to the side where he collapsed to his knees and just held him, shaking his head, shaking gavroche, then just staring at his face.

cannon fire dropped enjolras to the ground and grantaire crawled to his side, begging him to stay. enjolras shoved him to the ground and climbed back up, grabbing a flag. as bullets made enjolras fall once more, grantaire kissed gavroche on the head, grabbed a bottle, and climbed to the top of the barricade. it looked like he tried to grab the flag but didn��t make it. he was the last to die.

these actors were incredible. i spent every scene he was in watching grantaire on the sidelines, either goofing off with gavroche or staring at enjolras. i was delighted at how they embodied these characters and the clear love grantaire had for enjolras. even from the back of the balcony, it was clear where grantaire was staring.

it was my first time seeing the show in person and i hope i have many more opportunities. but i don’t know if anyone will beat them. devin archer and kyle adams were the perfect e/r.

my thoughts on the les mis tour, finally…(includes spoilers)

i am so happy i was able to see this amazing show twice last week, but let’s be honest, twice is not nearly enough. i saw the show when it was here in 2022, but i came at it this time from a whole new (slightly deranged, but hey, this IS tumblr) perspective, so here are my thoughts on the best musical of all time

GRANTAIRE: i think it goes without saying that kyle adams absolutely fucking rocked it as R. he perfectly portrayed the cynic in a way that felt more than a foil, but a person on his own. he was also just so flamboyant and dramatic and i love that for him. his interactions with the amis, enj, and especially gavroche (not to mention him teasing javert) were absolutely divine. special shoutout to him blowing a kiss at enj while in the cafe

ENJOLRAS: i don’t see enough posting about christian mark gibbs. he killed it (haha) as enj. i feel like, too often, enjolras is shown to be solely an embodiment of the revolutionary ideals, only focused on the goal. while this enjolras had that intensity, he was also very much a human who cared for his friends and the world at large. there was one moment in particular that i remember, where after bring him home, before he begins to sing “the people have not stirred,” he exchanges a look with courf, who is on the opposite side of the barricade, and it’s the most devastating thing - you really see him start to lose that desperate hope

GAVROCHE: OMFG gav killed me. he was so sassy and such a guy. his relationship with R is so personal to me you don’t understand. speaking of, gav’s death was gut wrenching. the whole theatre was silent, and when he was shot, a lady near me gasped. the blocking was amazing at this stage as well: enj caught him and handed him over to R, R shook him trying to wake him up, and enj was clearly devastated and had to be shaken multiple times by (ferre? i think?) before he interacted with the others again. also, kudos R standing there clenching his heart while gav was on the other side of the barricade.

this is already way too long so i’ll summarize: the entire cast, crew, and pit ATE! probably my favorite cast of all time, and the blocking was gorgeous and it was clear every actor deeply cared about their characters and the story. GO SEE THIS TOUR

javert (nick rehberger) said “no 😒” so snootily

the valjean (nick cartell) was INCREDIBLE. his “FLIIIGHT” note in the prologue was an inSANE high belt. and he did it while twirling around?? like WOAH.

the bishop (randy jeter) said “my friend :) you left so early” so gently

the factory girl who fought fantine was genuinely great??? like when she said “sleeping around” she made a little gesture and got all up in her face about it

before fantine died, valjean and her hugged 🥺

the thernadiers were GREAT. we had a panel with the actor of marius (jake david smith) and thernadier (matt crowle) and thernadier said he had a newer take on the character that he described as more of a jester, and you could tell! he really leaned into the physicality. i liked it

when madame did the sign of the cross thernadier just like. flopped his hands vaguely around

stars was fucking incredible. like WHAT. such a stoic javert…and a RICH voice. absolutely gorgeous rendition

javert and gavroche had this little moment after javert cleared everyone away where they just looked at each other like “ok……..respect.”

KYLE ADAMS GRANTAIRE IS BETTER THAN I COULD EVER IMAGINE

during red&black grantaire kissed combeferre on the head and later sat on his lap. he was also just SO CUNTYY. he crossed his legs in the most CUNTY way and just traipsed around and messed around with people and SERVED

when grantaire said “let’s give them a a screwing they’ll never forget” he empasized screwing like “let’s give them a screwing 😏💅 they’ll never forget”

ALSO!!!!! his and gavroche’s friendship was amazing !!!! like they would hug all the time 🥺🥺🥺 they had so many little moments. after grantaire’s verse in drink with me gavroche came over and hugged him on the legss!!! 💔💔😫😫 and when gavroche died (holy shit) grantaire ran over and hugged him and tried to wake him like WTFFF 💥💥💥💥💔💔💔

OKAYYY OH MY GOSH eponine (mya rena hunter) was amazing!!!!!!!! her on my own gave me CHILLS WOAHAHAH SHE WAS INCREDIBLE!!

AND MARIUS AND COSETTE WERE SO SWEET <3333 THEYRE DYNAMIC WAS EVERYTHING. like the cosette (delaney guyer) was SO short it was adorable. also her voice was naturally high and i really enjoyed it

marius was great. when he said “marius pontmercy” in heart full of love he bowed to cosette so goofily 😂

ALSO A LITTLE FALL OF RAIN!!!!!!!!!!! WTF!!! It was done so intimately—marius and eponine were so close to each other in their own corner and the whole stage was dim except a spotlight on them, and they sang so softly to each other it was like you were leaning into this conversation between just the two of them it was 💔💔💔💔💔💔😭😭😭😭

also during that song at one point gavroche tried to come over but grantaire pulled him back

and bring him home holy shiT. he started so quiet and gentle, but then his voice just SOARED as he got into it. just WOAH.

also!! when valjean read marius’ letter he stopped at the “well” when marius is writing about how cosette loves him as well. so like “love me as…well 🤨” SOO funny. bc he’s always so *valjean* and serious yknow but that break was so good

JAVERT’S SOLILOQUY. HOLY SHIT. he did my FAV thing of screaming the first two lines which 10000/10💥💥💥💥💥💥 and when he jumped, the set just like UNRAVELED around him (like how he himself was unraveling!!!) and he stayed suspended in midair while being moved back

at the end when valjean dies, he had the same candlesticks that the bishop gave him set up!!

First up I forgot how much Valjean gets the shit beaten out of him in the first two songs. Rip my guy

We had Emily Fink as Fantine and she was INCREDIBLE! I don't usually cry during I dreamed a dream but man that got me.

The confrontation 100/10 Colin Anderson Valjean and Nick Rehberger Javert are insane. My race is not yet run always gives me chills and this did not disappoint

Master of the house. Oh my god I could write a whole post on this song. The Thenardiers were so good. Matt Crowle was fucking hilarious. Kyle Adams cameo going THRU it they fed him his own vomit???? I was in tears. Also him and that woman 100/10 good for him (and her)

Bye bye Baguette will live rent free in my mind for the rest of my life

Eponine is INCREDIBLE! Also I met Mya Rena Hunter after the show and she was really nice! But oh my god her and Marius. And she's really badass. And her voice yall.

Ok red and black. There's SO MUCH! Enjolras 100/10 once again would follow to my death. Grantaire fucking around the entire song, prancing around the stage and I think he sat in multiple people's laps? Also long hair Grantaire was an amazing choice whoever did that you're a genius. Staring longingly at Enjolras in between fucking around. Book accurate Grantaire for the win.

GRANTAIRE AND GAVROCHE! Fucking killed me. I'm still not over it. After DYHTPS they're pretty much together the rest of the show and god they fucking kill me. Grantaire protecting Gavroche multiple times. Bruh

You guys Marius and Cosette are so awkward and adorable. Cosette disappearing in the window and Marius "I'm doing this all wrong" sad puppy face. Eponine in the background god.

ONE DAY MORE! The song of all time I'm not even kidding.

Ok ok I'm gonna write less now but

On my own and a little fall of rain broke me. Once again Eponine was incredible. Gavroche being the one to notice that she's dying in Marius' arms and once again Grantaire comforting him, and the rest of the barricade turning to watch.

Grantaire guarding Javert oh my god. I would pay actual money to know what he said to Javert.

DRINK WITH ME! Oh my god. Everyone giving a cheer when Grantaire starts because they think he'll say something funny, and instead he says that. The change in attitude. Him and Enjolras. Gavroche comforting him. Afterwards they're in the corner of the stage and and you can see them hugging.

Bring him home was incredible. Again. Chills.

I could also do a whole post on Gavroche's death. First of all Grantaire is pulled away from going after him and just stands facing the audience. The look on his face. You hear a gunshot and then silence, and then Gavroche climbs back up and there's so much relief and Enjolras is holding his shirt to pull him down and then he gets shot. Enjolras catches him. Grantaire walks over and gestures for Enjolras to hand him the body and then is holding Gavroche until the final battle.

Final battle bruh. Grantaire kissing Gavroche's head, laying him down, and then going to the barricade. He and Enjolras' moment. Enjolras climbing the barricade and falling forwards when he's shot. I'm pretty sure I heard "long live the republic I am one of them" Grantaire being the last to die. The theater was completely still and silent afterwards.

The fucking cart carrying Enjolras' body made me audibly say what the fuck. Javert looking at Gavroche's body.

Empty chairs at empty tables. The choreography was incredible I feel like it's usually just them standing there but it was more with candles and stuff. Yes I was crying.

the wedding/beggars at the feast. Once again Thenardiers are amazing. Kyle Adams as the wedding guy once again prancing around stage. Amazing dance moves. BATF is one of my favorite songs. Lyrics changes to "this one's a queer I might try it too" and Thenardier dancing with a man. Insane.

And then I ugly cried my way thru the epilogue

Afterwards I met Mya and Kyle and they were SO NICE! I made a joke post about screaming crying throwing up on IG that Kyle reposted and then he was screaming crying throwing up in our pictures and I was laughing my ass off. He's really funny. Mya was so nice! Her and my friend were talking because they're both Mya's and both have septum piercings lmao

I'm very tempted to go see it again before it leaves
