random eponine headcanons from my sister and i’s wild ass les mis modern au that has been completely made through spoken word and horrific ms paint drawings

she had schizoaffective disorder (schizophrenia + bipolar)

she’s struggled with being bipolar as long as she can remember and it made growing up in an already bad household a dozen times worse

her schizophrenia onset just as she was finally escaping her parents and trying to win custody over her siblings

she ultimately wasn’t able to earn custody of them due to her recent schizophrenia diagnosis, along with her bipolar, causing her to be ruled mentally unfit to care for them despite willing to die a dozen times over for those kids

she had known the amis since early highschool and gav had become very close with courfeyrac because of it

courfeyrac decided he would try to take custody of both azelma and gavroche, ensuring they would not be near their parents and still be able to be around eponine often. he won custody of both of them and even though eponine isn’t their legal guardian, they sleepover at eponine’s apartment quite often and she tries to be as involved as possible in their lives

though she often seems tough on the outside, her childhood trauma slowly ate away at her for years. she’s terrified of thunderstorms, she can’t enjoy winter because she’s far too busy buying an absurd amount of winter coats and weatherproofing everything, she hoards food (especially in the winter months), she’s very distrustful, and she struggles to pursue romantic and sexual relationships

For Barricade Day, I’ve decided to post some quotes from when me and my friends from college were going to make some Les Amis music videos! (I’m still planning to make them btw, but none of the original people wanted to be involved/kept in touch.)

Names of my friends are changed to the names of the Ami they played (for security) but I’m keeping the pronouns of my friends when applicable.

TW: character death mention, spoilers for les mis, mention of bad self esteem.

From the day I gave out character sheets printed from online:

Me: *trying to explain the Triumvirate to Enjolras and Courfeyrac* (Combeferre couldn’t make it that day) So, you two and Combeferre are kind of a trio -

Enjolras: (immediately) Can we kick Courfeyrac out? (She was joking, don’t worry. These three were really close in real life)

Me: No, we’re Les Amis…

Courfeyrac: *looks at character sheet* You can’t kick me out, I’m the glue that holds you together!

Enjolras: Yeah, you’re like that really annoying PVA glue that gets stuck to your hands and you have to peel it off!

(I’m convinced that banter like this happened between Les Amis, feel free to steal anything on this post for a fic by the way!)

Me: *lets others read my own (Grantaire) character sheet that I printed just for fun*

Feuilly: (not realising that the information a. came from online and b. is about the book which I didn’t write) Why have you written that your character’s ugly? Don’t say that about yourself!

Me: I didn’t write this! *proceeds to get upset with Victor Hugo for being so mean about Grantaire*

(She knew I had very little self confidence - I’m working on it! - and probably would have written that about myself, so she was looking out for me.)

Enjolras: *also reading the same part on my information* That’s not true, he’s not ugly in the film, he’s very attractive - wait, I’m thinking of Aaron.

Me: (sarcastically) Well, aren’t we modest today?

Me: *gives Courfeyrac the character sheet for Combeferre who wasn’t in that day as they were having a sleepover that evening*

Courfeyrac: *promptly forgets which sheet is hers because they both begin with C*

(Luckily I had the foresight to write everyone’s real names on the character sheets as well as the character names!)

Me: I JUST READ MY OWN INFORMATION AND NOW I’M SAD!

Courfeyrac: Why do you do this to yourself?

Me: I don’t know!

The next week, after singing Tightrope as a duet with Enjolras (because of the lyric “hand in my hand and we promise to never let go” this will always be an Enjoltaire song to me!)

Me: (explaining) So we’re shot after the line “will you catch me if I should fall”, but people don’t usually die instantly when they’re shot -

Enjolras: Unless they’re shot in the head. So if you ever need someone to die quickly, make sure you aim for the head.

Me: (very concerned but carrying on) And I use the last of my strength to sing the line “well, it’s all an adventure that comes with a breathtaking view”, basically telling you that you’re a breathtaking view.

Enjolras: Aww! So are you!

Me: Thanks. …I mean, Victor didn’t agree, but…

Enjolras: I wonder why…

Me: Well, maybe he looked into the future and found out I’d be playing the part one day!

One Gay More!

I’m working on a massive (planning 60 chapters) fanfic that is now Seven chapters in with two more to be expected within the next week. HUGE thank you to my best friend Julia (TheGothicFrenchFry on AO3) who is a fantastic editor, help me with all of my fics (even those to be posted), and gives me a lot of inspiration; all in all she is a writer’s best friend.  It is an Enjoltaire modern AU with a lot of hurt/comfort and fluff. Chapter One: Cosette and Enjolras

Enjolras woke up with a pillow being thrown at his face. He groaned and sat up looking for the person who threw it. Cosette grinned cheekily from the other side of the room.

“Come on sleeping beauty! Time to get up!” She called over to him. He took the same pillow that woke him up and launched it back at his sister. She easily dodged and left the room laughing. Enjolras dragged himself out of bed. He glanced at his reflection in the mirror and gave up trying to tame his mane of hair and just tied it back. He shuffled out of his and Cosette’s room and downstairs to where Jean Valjean and Cosette were eating breakfast. 

“Morning,” he greeted as he walked into the kitchen. Valjean smiled at him

“Morning Enjolras. Are you going with us back to school today? Cosette said that she was going up early.”

“Yeah, both of us are going up. We’re planning to hold a rally when everyone comes back so we’ll have to go up early.”

“Well, I hope you both come back for the holidays or spring break.” Cosette stood and kissed Valjean on the cheek.

“Of course, Papa. I’m going to pack.” After she left the room, Valjean’s smile disappeared and he pulled out an official looking letter.

“Enjolras,” he started cautiously. “I have some… bad news. Your father’s lawyer sent a letter. He wants to officially,... Disown you.” Enjolras’ head shot up.

“He wants to ‘officially disown me’? That’s low, even for him. When does he want to do that?” he said emotionlessly. Valjean gave him a look of sympathy.

“Next friday.”

“What? He can’t do that! That’s the first day of classes and the day we plan to hold the rally!” Enjolras exploded. He cursed under his breath. “He must’ve planned that. We tried to spread the word as much as possible. I can’t believe him!”

Valjean sighed. “I’m sorry, Enj. You should just focus on getting back to school and setting up the rally. You always trusted Combeferre and Courfeyrac, they will be able to help you. You should go pack. I’ll drive the two of you up in a half hour.” Enjolras nodded and went up to his and Cosette’s room to pack. Cosette met him in the hallway.

“I heard everything,” she confessed. “I’m so sorry Enjy. If it helps, ‘Zel said she got the Musian to let the Courfeyrac back.” She offered a small smile before pulling Enjolras in a quick hug. Then, they went upstairs to pack their stuff for the new school year.

ཻུ♡ LA VALLÉ DES CLOCHES ( @benignethegood & 1/1 ): Tad não vê sua vida sem essa pessoa, quando afastado da família, é seu irmão de outra mãe e juntos os dois se complementam, além de adorarem aprontar algumas. É o único que sabe sobre sua vida de escritor. Sleepovers são bem comuns entre os dois, e eles podem passar horas falando sobre a vida e suas jornadas.

Le Protagoniste: como o próprio nome diz, esse é o protagonista de todas as suas histórias. É um camponês que com o tempo se torna o herói de sua vila, e viaja pelo mundo mágico vivendo aventuras -- @benignethegood​;

L’amant: é a moça que possui o coração do protagonista. Apesar de não terem um relacionamento sério, ela o acompanha em algumas aventuras, e também é um dos motivos dele sempre voltar para casa -- @lindaadormecida​;

Faux protagoniste: esse é o cara que não aceita que o protagonista é o protagonista, então ele está sempre mostrar-se melhor que o principal; é claro que nada vai dar muito certo para ele;

Le meilleur ami: o Sancho Pança do Dom Quixote dessa história! Os dois são melhores amigos, e esse personagem sempre acompanha o principal em suas aventuras; eventualmente ganha histórias solo -- @eyesofhoruszorak​;

L'antagoniste: o vilão. Ele morre de inveja do protagonista e quer acabar com a vida dele de todas as formas possíveis, está sempre tentando sabotar as aventuras do principal -- @frankensteintremaine​;

ཻུ♡ LE RÊVERIE ( @swstergaard & 1/1 ): muse foi o primeiro beijo de Tad, porquem ele nutre um carinho especial. Fica até bobo de se lembrar do momento, e ela pode até zoar dele, ele deixa. Serviu também para ele descobrir que não era bem daquela fruta que ele gostava, rs.

ཻུ♡ GASPARD DE LA NUIT ( M & 0/1 ): muse foi o primeiro beijo de Tad com alguém do mesmo sexo, e por mais que ele estivesse extremamente tímido no começo, hoje os dois levam a situação como algo natural, afinal, foi uma abertura de portas para o Hood.

ཻུ♡ LES QUATRE SAISONS ( M & 0/1 ): Tad e muse são quase de mundos diferentes em muitas coisas, tem gostos bem diferentes. Porém, sentimentos que decidiram aparecer entre os dois pareceram não se importar com essa situação, e agora Tad procura maneira de lidar com eles.

Eventualmente pretende mudar essa situação, pois sente que muse pode ser uma mudança importante em sua vida.

les amis hcs that i accept as cold hard (modern) canon

les amis do have sleepovers at least twice a month. hosting is up to whoever feels most comfortable doing so, and it is mainly coordinated around feuilly’s schedule (no one wants him to feel left out bc of how much he works)

courfeyrac is consistently the best host, simply bc he loves his friends and enjoys planning events, and he goes all in; all different types of snacks, drinks, huge selection of movies, blankets and pillows, and- much to everyone’s dismay- matching pjs (yes it was an investment that he was more than willing to commit to)

while some of them have known each other for longer than others may have (the mighty triumvirate are childhood best friends, and courfeyrac gladly makes this known from how many times he’s embarrassed the other two with awful childhood photos), each of les amis have standalone friendships with each other. they can and do hang out individually as well as in groups

most surprising (at least for people not in their friend group) is that cosette and feuilly are really close friends. they’re both film nerds and they celebrate ramadan together- cosette has, on multiple occasions, cooked for both of them for eid

enjolras and bahorel entrust each other with their lives, and will literally fight the world to protect each other (bahorel once headbutted someone who was harassing enjolras at a bar, and now [lightly] headbutting each other is how they show affection)

grantaire is the only one in their friend group who doesn’t room with someone else. he briefly stayed with jehan+eponine and later jbm (who all ofc gladly welcomed him), but once he found a stable job as a bartender, he started living alone. they still regularly visit (“reparations,” musichetta will joke, but really they know it’s to make sure grantaire never feels too disconnected from the group)

courfeyrac and combeferre have known each other so well for so long that they can understand each other with a simple eyebrow raise. everyone jokes about how they have ESP, but truthfully, everyone wants what they have

grantaire might know the trendiest places in paris, but joly knows all the ones that are wheelchair accessible. he has 4+ hours of research culminated in a master list on an excel spreadsheet. no one knows it exists- they all think joly has just been to every possible hangout spot and eatery in paris and ranked them accordingly

musichetta resents the idea that she’s some magical healthy communication wizard/manic pixie dream girl in her relationship. to be honest, she’s got the worst temper out of the three, and it took a lot of fucking up and a lot of emotional digging for them to get to where they are now (which is, to say, a really nice, healthy, loving polyamorous relationship, but it took some WORK)

enjolras has taken a bullet for each of his friends. literally. once he tried joking that it’s a rite of passage in their friendship, but was really only met with concerned faces, some of them wet with tears. somehow each time everyone is too horrified to notice the trend (eponine did smack him on the head for joking about it too soon, though)

bossuet used to be insecure about balding early- he refused to cut his hair and would wear bandanas to cover his receding hairline. jehan was the one to told him to embrace it and suggested they shave their heads together.

combeferre approaches marius, years after the “Political Disagreement” (which grantaire has lovingly immortalised in a sketchbook), with a heart felt apology and a box of green tea macarons. marius had forgotten about the incident entirely

bahorel tried to teach cosette how to box one day and it went disastrously. she kept yelping before he could (lightly tap) her and run away, and felt too bad to hit him. later, she gave someone a black eye at a protest. bahorel was secretly impressed, and not-so-secretly terrified

grantaire and enjolras often swap books, annotating until the margins are filled to the brim with jokes, entire arguments, and flirtatious remarks. once courfeyrac found this out, when he had to borrow a book from one of them, he took about a thousand pictures and sent it to the other amis. (they bravely endured all the teasing with red faces, but they still continue to do it regardless)

eponine is, understandably, weird about letting people in. everyone respects her boundaries and no one tries to pry to deep, but she knows that if she ever needs to talk to someone with no judgement (like about her growing feelings for marius and cosette), combeferre is a surprisingly good listener

musichetta put enjolras on a curly-hair-care-routine that he follows religiously. they have made each other homemade flaxseed gels and avocado hair masques before. (he’s never really cared about his appearance all that much, but it warms his heart that his friends can find just about anything to share with each other)

marius notices all of this about his friends and loves them for it. he tried baking vegan cookies for them to show his appreciation before his oven set on fire. bossuet (lovingly) reminds everyone of this unfortunate fact anytime they try to mention his own unlucky streaks.

modern era eponine hcs:

-eponine uses she/they pronouns

-95% of her clothes are thrifted. her family has had to thrift clothes since forever and it really bothers her when thrifting becomes a trend. they try not to gatekeep, but one of their biggest pet peeves are people who go in and take all of the cute pieces of clothing to resell and leave nothing for the people who actually depend on thrifted clothing. a lot of les amis know that her situation with clothing is difficult, so she ends up getting a lot of hand-me-downs from them and it makes her feel happy. she's got a couple pairs of enjolras's old sweatpants, some of combeferre's old jeans (and oh my god eponine has to roll them up so far) and a bunch of jehan's sweaters

-eponine wants to be an author. they've been creative writing since they were ten and there have been several evolutions of their writing. middle school was a lot of happy endings, high school was angst and only angst, and throughout uni and her adult life, she's begun finding a style that suits her really well and her writing is very dynamic and crafted with love and anyone who reads her work can tell

-they're also really good at screenwriting. grantaire has commissioned them before to help on a project he was doing and eponine was very professional, quick, and had a flawless draft. he was incredibly impressed when he got it back

-she's trying really really hard to be a good big sister to gavroche. eponine regrets having a short temper with him when she was in high school and she's been trying to make it up with letting him stay at their apartment, buying him nice things when she can afford it, and trying to be more responsible in the future. they aren't sure how to prove that they're sorry and saying it out loud seems weird, but she's genuinely trying

-eponine is a dog walker for the dogs in their building. every day, they round up the dogs in the building and take them out on a route to a dog park. it's pretty okay money and they really enjoy the company of dogs. when gavroche is over for the weekend, eponine will take him along for the walk because he loves dogs just as much

-after rebuilding their relationship with cosette, eponine spends a lot of their time with her. cosette is a really good listener and advice giver when things are rough for eponine and eponine goes to all of her ballet company's performances and gets her flowers after every show. they get brunch every wednesday at what they've dubbed as their cafe and they just talk smack about the people they know for an hour and a half over coffee and crepes

-they have a really bad cat allergy. being around cats makes eponine so sneezy and her eyes will water until she leaves the premise. she loves all of her friends who own cats, but they will absolutely not step foot into any of those people's apartments because eponine will just be in misery the entire time

-EPONINE AND JEHAN BFF SUPREMACY. they have sleepovers all the times and eponine is one of the only people who isn't afraid of jehan's pet rats. jehan will do eponine's nails and neaten them up and they can talk about this and that and it's very therapeutic for them both. they also compete in a local baking competition every year (and they never place- BUT THIS YEAR IS A NEW YEAR!)

-they don't mind presenting femininely, but they prefer to use men's colognes and deodorants and body sprays and they always smell really nice

-eponine also wears a ton of jewlery. they don't believe in jewlery segregation. they'll wear gold necklaces and silver earrings and beaded bracelets and rubber bracelets and silver rings and whenever someone points it out, they just say "it's camp"

-eponine and courfeyrac stoner solidarity. she never keeps weed in the house though because she doesn't want azelma and gavroche to think she's "on the wrong path", so eponine only goes over to smoke with courfeyrac. it's normally just a nice way to unwind and watch the clouds in the sky move. they're gonna buy a dab pen off of courfeyrac though because sometimes they'd prefer to get high alone and the smell and everything is a lot less obvious with a pen

-all of eponine's sneakers are scuffed as hell. she wears a lot of skate shoes but she has never stepped foot on a skateboard before. eponine has 100% lied about being able to ollie when someone is like "do you even skate" but she doesn't even know what an ollie is- she just knows the word from courfeyrac

-eponine has a couch that she got bahorel to help pick up off the side of the road. it's an old 60s couch that's bright orange. at the time of finding it, the couch was gross and dirty, but they spent hours cleaning it and reupholstering it and now they have the most beautiful orange couch anyone has ever seen. it's the staple of eponine's apartment. if it ever had to get thrown out, everyone would be upset- that couch is a part of the friend group at this point

who stays up way later than everyone else talking and giggling with each other, les Amis sleepovers/late night meetings. ^^

I feel like Joly and Bossuet sometimes purposefully stay up later than everyone else because I think there's a sort of fun of being the only one awake and they seem the type to enjoy it together. Also it's a good time for potential minor pranks. I also think they fail at staying up late and end up falling asleep on top of each other in the middle of a conversation

I think Jehan sometimes stays up really late and has very deep conversations with whoever else is up. I think Combeferre might actually be the most fun for this? Just Jehan who is kind of spiritual and romantic having existential conversations with Combeferre who 'denied nothing not even ghosts' would be neat

How do you headcanon the start of the triumvirate? Was it that Combeferre and Courfeyrac were best friends and then they met Enjolras? Or was it Ferre and Enj and then Courf? Or E and Courf and then Ferre? Or they just met in a specific place and hit it off?

Well it really depends on canon vs modern AU! This post kind of got away from me and got way long, lmao, so I’ll put it under the cut:

In terms of canon-era, I imagine that they would have met as adults (or well, as adult-y as they can get at the age they would have left their homes in the South for Paris—I still do think they were children even at the time of their deaths, which is what makes their deaths and so many of those in Les Miserables so tragic, right—the fact that they were all so young, "children of the barricade" and... I'm getting off topic.) In my head, I think Enjolras and Courfeyrac would have met first. It's generally accepted that both of them, regardless of canon era or Modern AU, would go to law school (though that doesn't mean other headcanons are invalid!) so I think they would have met each other there, and once they met—the passion! It would be like, like a firework of passion for change, for a new, better world, two new friends—new best friends who understand each other like no one else has understood each before—brought together by whatever chance of fate. They would absolutely hit it off, and then I believe together, Enjolras and Courfeyrac would have first created Les Amis de l'abaisse, the society in its embryonic stage. Enter Combeferre. Another young man with ideals similar to those of the radically passionate Enjolras and Courfeyrac—but with a cooler mindset that lends him the thinking of the philosophy of the revolution, the counterpart to the previously lonely logic of the revolution (though do not underestimate Combeferre's own capacity to turn passionately raging—to do so would be foolish) who hears the whispers of secret Republican societies, and on his way home from the medical school hears of a smaller society—The Friends of the ABC, a society that though only has a few members (I imagine that Bahorel and Bossuet, seeing that they're also law students, would have met Enjolras and Courfeyrac earlier and joined before) doesn't seem to lack in spirit, and soon enough, one meeting later and he's already a dedicatedly passionate member of the society, and finds that he now has something he was missing when he first came to Paris, something special in his new friends Courfeyrac and especially Enjolras, who seems to be his corrective—the action to his thoughts, the logic to his philosophy. And from there, well, the three are inseparable. In terms of logic and philosophy, one cannot survive without the other, and neither can withstand if they do not have their centremost point. From then on, whenever plans were to be made, as the ABC society continued to grow, it became known that those three—the Chief, his Guide, and their Centre — were the heads to consult, neither a power without the other, the triumvirate, the power of three united as one.

In terms of modern AU, I have two headcanons and each comes out depending on time to time. The first is that I imagine that all three of them met in kindergarten—that’s right, modern AU triumvirate would meet each other when they were all tiny little revolutionary tots. Enjolras would be drawn to Courfeyrac because of his bubbly personality, Courfeyrac would be drawn to Enjolras because he’s this quiet little kid but even if he is quiet he did not hesitate in kicking ass telling off a kid for not sharing crayons with Courfeyrac during colouring time, and they both find themselves drawn to Combeferre because Combeferre’s already two reading levels ahead and is reading about fossils and dinosaurs and dinosaurs are cool as hell, they absolutely have to be friends with the cool nerd in the glasses, kids with glasses are cool. It’s literally only the first day, and already by the end of it, they’re making sleepover plans with each other—and from there it just grows, and they’re absolutely inseparable, all the way into university and beyond in life and you can fight me if you don’t think Combeferre and Courfeyrac are Enjolras’ true parents and give Grantaire shovel talk. A second headcanon I have, though this one I think of rarer, is that Enjolras and Courfeyrac are the same age (though I know in the brick the latter is one year younger than the former) but Combeferre is older—by quite a bit. Like, I would say five years or so, old enough to have been a sort of older brother/tutor to Enjolras and a babysitter when Enjolras was much younger, because that image is absolutely adorable in my head. Can you imagine Combeferre putting a baby Enjolras in time out only to take him out of it two seconds later because his heart just melts and he can’t take the pouting look on Enjolras’ face? Adorable. The main difference between the two is that in the first version, I can see Combeferre and Courfeyrac getting together romantically with each other. The second one, I don’t. I’m not saying that having an age gap in a relationship is bad (though, I do have opinions on... how large the gap is and at what age each is entering) it’s just that I can’t see Courfeyrac dating a guy who was once the babysitter to his best friend, but that’s just me. 

But yeah, that’s how I headcanon the triumvirate meeting. I’m sorry, anon, you were probably expecting a quick, short response and then I had to go and do this... I’m sorry I just have a lot of feelings about the triumvirate asdfghjkl they’re one of my favourite fictional friendships ever.
